Obsidian City was full of oddities. It wasn’t just because fae, vampire, and more all coexisted, but certainly there were all sorts of other sights to behold. Fenrik, for example, had taken the train into the city, the stray coyote that sometimes wandered onto the compound property, was on his back. Some people seemed to know it was not some odd breed of dog. Others either didn’t realize or didn’t care one way or another. 

Today, Bone (named as such because when Fenrik had first found him he had been gnawing on a bone; he had never been creative with names, his wife had named both their twins) had wandered onto the compound, limping. He realized that the animal must have twisted or broken a bone, possibly in a fight with another creature. Possibly having been caught in a trap by a hunter. Either way, the injury was out of Fenrik’s own personal expertise, and so he had strapped the animal to his back and gone into the city, by train to get to a vet there. Bloodhearth, unfortunately, didn’t quite provide such services. 

Now, he walked out of the animal hospital, Bone still on his back with a cast on the leg. It had been hours of waiting and now Fenrik was hungry. He wondered what were the chances of being able to sit and eat somewhere with the injured coyote. He was pretty sure they were slim to none, but he still looked around, not wanting to wait to trek all the way back to Bloodhearth before being able to eat. 

He could hear whining coming from the animal on his back. He looked over to see Bone staring longingly at a woman nearby. His nose sniffed at the air, clearly catching something on her. He must have been hungry, too, Fenrik realized.

Clearing his throat, he grunted, “Excuse me, ma’am, do you happen to have any food on you? And where would you have gotten it from, by chance?” After all, maybe it was something good.

Technically these are all pictures from yesterday but oh well. I went into work yesterday morning to help get some pieces together for a class. A retired professor came to guest lecture and requested some items. I got to sit through her lecture, which was amazing and I didn't get the chance to have a class with her so it was even better. In studio art my professor found the linoleum block he carved of a Holbein print and I got to print it! I love it so much and i'm planning on trying to simplify one and do a wood carving for my last print next week.

Photo dump from our working equitation clinic in coming!

Sydney was an absolute legend the entire time, and took to all of the obstacles like she had been doing them her entire life. The clinic was a looooong day. Two hours was spent learning about the obstacles on the ground and walking through how each one was done. Then about 45 minutes was spent showing all of our horses everything unmounted, before we got on. It was interesting to me to see Sydney get a little spicy at first about seeing the same obstacles with me on her back when she had been totally chill or completely uninterested in them when we were on the ground. We then spent roughly two hours with a short break for lunch working through all of the obstacles before stringing them all together into a course 1 at a time.

We got some really good marks and comments from the clinician that I entirely credit to our dressage background. Things like having good bend in the obstacles with lots of circles, having a (mostly, she couldn’t see the one rogue leg from her vantage point I don’t think) square halt where we needed to show a square and immobile halt, and having balanced and forward gaits all over the place.

Sydney and I had so much fun that I think I am going to aim for 1, maybe 2 working equitation shows this year. The closest ones are a 2 hour drive from the farm, so a heck of a haul, but I’d really love to give this a go.

Also, in case anybody is wondering, I was back in my old County for this clinic. I didn’t exactly coordinate/plan things out very well with my saddle fitter as far as her taking my new saddle to add flocking to the front. Unfortunately she had to drop the panels to get flocking to where it needed to be in the very front of the saddle, so not an easy in barn fix. Turns out there was basically no flocking under the tree points and it needed some serious help. I knew the front was flocked lightly, but not the extent of how lightly it was flocked. I will have it back Wednesday, just in time for my Thursday lesson. I still like my old dressage saddle, but I will be very happy to have my new one back in my hands. My old one is still for sale, for anybody looking. It’s an 18 inch County Fusions, XWX tree, for $1900 + shipping.
