#6x18 spec
possibly controversial opinion but i don’t necessarily want buddie together by the season finale
nah instead i want buddie canon, i.e. reveal of feelings to the audience but not yet to each other
like… season finale, a newly married chim is encouraging eddie to keep getting out there and then he says something like ‘i already know what i want’
camera cut to buck, then back again and chimney’s like ‘ohhh i get it now’ and just pats him on the back and doesn’t say anything else, cause buck’s crush on eddie is bigger than the sun
then boom season finale ends, hiatus for however many months it is
like can you imagine the chaos?? everyone would lose their minds
i dunno, i’m still gonna be ecstatic if buddie gets together by 6x18, but this is my dream, my vision if you like

you don't find it son, you make it
Buddie | 1.8k | 6x18 season ending spec fic
"We're having smores," Chris said, the two of them now leaning against the back of the couch. "We make them every week."
"Nice, so it's like a tradition then, huh?"
"We brought this one forward, I think dad needed it," he said, and Bucks lips turned up tightly.
The bridge collapse had been somewhat of a whirlwind. Buck felt that, he had a couple of bruised ribs after he had run in after Bobby. He knew what Bobby would have said, don't take the risk, stay where you're safe and assess the situation.
But there was no way he could ever do that, not when it was Bobby. What he should've done was being buried under the crushing weight of what he had to do.
There was no hesitation, he would have taken more than a few bruises if it meant getting Bobby to safety.
When the initial collapse had happened, Eddie had dislocated his shoulder, after that there wasn't much he could do with that arm. It felt like he was stuck, forced to stay still as things happened around him. Hen had made a makeshift sling, but all it really did was keep his shoulder still.
It was as though all he could do was watch the people around him help the others. He had been through worse, much worse, it seemed almost ridiculous that something like a dislocated shoulder would be enough to slow him down, but it did. And as he watched Buck hanging off some very unstable equipment to help Bobby, he couldn't help but feel like he should have been doing more to help him, to protect him from getting hurt himself.
"Yeah," Buck said. "I think he probably did."
"We always make one for mom too," Chris said, and Buck felt a tightness in his chest. He forgot sometimes that Christopher had lost his mother so early, that he had needed to deal with that grief when there was still so much he had to learn about life, about himself.
"That sounds like a great way to remember her," he said softly.
"But you're here, and we didn't make you one," Chris said. "I think you should have hers this time."
Buck smiled, feeling a warmth in the bottom of his chest that only ever came when he was with Christopher, when he could see and feel the kindness he had inside him.
"That wouldn't be fair," he said. "You made it for her."
Christopher paused, a humming sound coming from his lips as he thought for a moment.
"I think she'd be okay if you had it," he said. "She would want you to enjoy it, just like we do. We can make four next time."

Trapped dads fic is here. Very happy I finished it this week bc for a hot sec I didn’t know if it would happen. Grace if you’re seeing this post stop it and leave.
“Why would you come down after me?” Eddie asks, obviously holding back, as he tries to sift through what rubble he can. Buck follows suit and starts helping move stuff around. Hopefully they can sift through enough of the road to get to the surface.
“Two pairs of hands down here is better than one, you had a better chance of survival if there were two of us down here.” Buck finds a loose but large piece of the bridge and calls Eddie over.
“Well that was stupid of you,” Eddie grunts at him as they move it to the ground together. Behind it is another wall of concrete and he sighs.

911 besties… I’ve had a Thought™ about the finale that’s been spinning around in my brain for like 24 straight hours and I have to type it out before I explode:
I think Julie Rosen is gonna die.
I was rewatching 6x12, and before we see Buck go to Eddie’s house, there’s the scene with Madney where Maddie says, “Julie Rosen, she and some of the guys were supposed to bring him dinner…” blah blah blah.
Which would be fine, and could just be them acknowledging that there’s more people that work at the 118 than just the MC’s…BUT we also see her in 6x13 in the poker scene. And I got to thinking like hmm, why have this character show up (or at least mentioned by name) for 2 episodes in a row when we’ve only seen her like once before in season 5?
But that’s where I was wrong - she ALSO shows up in 6x02 at the happiness convention, where first Hen calls her by name to have her pair off with Eddie. Then, Eddie conveniently happens to introduce her - again, BY NAME - to a victim. I can’t think of another time (off the top of my head) where a MC has introduced a non-MC that’s helping them to a victim. But they made sure to have Eddie say “this is Julie” to those guys at the convention.
Why? Maybe so the general audience will know her by name. We’ve seen/heard of her a handful of times, including twice in 6b alone (so far). They make a point to show that she’s good enough friends with Buck to have Maddie’s phone number and bring dinner to his house. She plays poker with Eddie. She’s a part of their family, whether we see her a lot or not.
Combine all that with the stuff we’ve gotten recently about death and time, plus the “cataclysmic catastrophe” we’re getting in 6x18 and… 🤷🏼‍♀️

the way that it's hen standing beside eddie in this moment of clear physical pain and pure, unbridled anguish and terror.
hen, who watched karen flatline a handful of episodes ago. who desperately worked to save her life in the back of that ambulance. hen, who thought she lost her wife, the love of her life, the mother of her child-
(only to end the episode with the wilson family at home together, safe and sound, hen fussing over her wife and getting her all set up on the couch to recover.)
hen, whose wife and child were simultaneously endangered in the lab explosion. hen, who was unable to rescue them herself, even though every instinct was screaming at her to run headfirst into the burning building.
(she may not have been injured the way eddie is here, but she was benched by bobby and barred from the scene on account of no longer being a paramedic.)
hen, who spent an entire episode subconsciously reflecting on her and karen's journey so far, everything they've been through together, how they built their family, and how they found their way.
(an episode written by nicole barazza keim, mind you, who happens to be- oh, yknow. one half of the writer duo behind pay it forward. no big deal. nothing to see here, keep it moving!)
so, like. of course it had to be hen, in this moment, who's here for eddie, because-
hen was the only witness to his widow's grief for buck.
christopher's back was turned, and eddie hurriedly wiped away his tears before chris could see.
but hen? she saw all of it. and we still haven't circled back to that fact.
in an episode called pay it forward, i'm starting to think this may be hen's chance to pass on the lesson that she and karen learned in tomorrow (courtesy of chimney). how did that go again, exactly?
oh, right:
chimney: hen is not actually dead, but-but she had a pretty bad near-miss accident last night.
karen: what the hell, howie? you can't just say stuff like that.
chim: i know. i just, i... we had a really tough call. and it was rough and there was a minute when i thought hen was dead, and it scared the crap out of me.
karen: and you decided to pay that experience forward?
chimney: yes. look... look, i know you two broke up. and i just thought you needed to know what it would feel like if you woke up tomorrow and you found out hen wasn't in this world anymore.
...
karen: because i thought you were dead. when howie called, there was a moment when i thought you died in that accident. when i felt like i'd lost you forever. and it scared me. to think of you being gone. never having a chance to fix things or try again.
hen: karen, it's too late.
karen: it's not. as long as we are both here on this earth... as long as we have tomorrow, it's not too late.

We have time (let's use all of it)
buck/eddie | buck&chim | teen and up| 5676 words
Summary: “You smile like an idiot right now. And speaks like you happy Eddie is not here,” so Chim heard it. “Which is a surprise for me because I thought you would prefer to spend time with him. He is your best friend.” “I would prefer not to be trapped with anyone at all,” Buck says with sadness in his voice . He doesn't like the idea that someone from his family is in danger. And he doesn't like the inability to do something about it. And he doesn't want to be in danger either. “And I am actually happy Eddie is not here. I hate seeing him in pain or in danger. Also one of us always should be ok to go home to Chris. And I always will do anything for it to be Eddie,” he doesn't want to die. And he doesn't want Eddie to die either. He wants to live with Eddie, but he would always choose Eddie over himself.
I did it!!! I end my 6x18 spec fic based on this post be lovely @loveyourownsmiilee 😘

6x18 Couch Spec/Coda
Just an idea I wish would play out on screen tonight feat. Bobby and Buck father/son vibes. It’s about 1.6k. Let me know what you think.
***
It’s been a long day to say the least. Buck has been a firefighter for years and he doesn’t think he’d ever experience a more draining day on the job and he’s been through a lot. Yet today it wasn’t just a normal rescue, because all of his team had nearly died in that bridge collapse. Hen in the wreck, Chim being impaled, Bobby tumbling off the bridge, and Eddie trapped in that ticking time bomb they called a van… it had almost been too, much.
Buck had counted each time that day he wanted to just stop and take a minute to just scream a the universe for this horrible situation: only him and Ravi fighting against all odds to save their family. Yet, he didn’t stop once because he had to save them. And he had done it. All of them made it out of there, alive. Bobby would be banged up for a bit, Chim would be out for weeks healing from his puncture wound, and Eddie was on bed-rest while his ribs healed. Both Buck and Hen had concussions that would need a few days of rest to recover with, but he’d be back at the firehouse bright and early Monday morning ready to take on the world.
Now, after visiting Chim in the hospital and getting Eddie bandaged up, now that he was home at Eddie’s Buck could finally start taking some breaths. As he settled in on the couch, Eddie on the right end and Chris snuggled in between them while they watched a movie (the brightness dimmed just a bit to help with both his and Eddie’s headaches), exhaustion started seeping into his bones. The feeling he had now was on par with his post-tsunami crash, coming down from being high on adrenaline and fear. At least this time he was somewhere safe and comfortable, rather than outside of a field hospital, or dealing with the drama of the Connor and Kameron ordeal in his loft. That was a tomorrow Buck problem, right now, he didn’t want to be anywhere else but right there, with Eddie and Chris.
Just as he’s about to fully close his eyes, his phone started vibrating in his pocket. He nearly groans thinking that it might be Connor or Kameron calling him to mediate. If it had been he would have immediately. However, when Bobby’s name flashed across his screen, he can’t just silence the call. “I’ll be right back,” he whispers to Eddie before gently moving a sleeping Chris from his side to lean against his dad. Buck quietly got up and made his way into the Diaz’s kitchen before answering, “Hey, Cap. Everything okay?”
“Hey, kid. Everything is fine. Just calling to check in. Today was… a lot. Are you doing okay?”
“Me? You’re the one that fell off a bridge, Bobby!” He doesn’t mention how he had to watch Bobby fall of said bridge. Doesn’t mention the fear that seeped into his bones at the thought of Bobby being dead when he found him.
But he doesn’t have to mention those things, because as if Bobby can read this thoughts, he says, “And you’re the one that had to deal with the fall out.”
“I promise, I’m okay.” As long as all of you are okay, I’m okay. “Just exhausted.”
Dropping the subject for the moment, Bobby speaks again. “You really stepped up today, kid. I’m proud of you.”
Buck smile grows three sizes at the compliment, and he’s glad Bobby is just on the phone so he can’t see how much he’s affected by it. Bobby might not be his dad, but he’s a way better one than Philip Buckley, and having any parent be proud of him is all he’s ever wanted. “Just doing my job, Cap.” He says, trying to act nonchalant. If Bobby notices his change of voice, he doesn’t comment on it.
“Look, days like this often put a lot of things into perspective for us.” Bobby begins, and Buck can’t help but wonder where this conversation is going. “For me, I decided that it’s time I take a break.”
“A break? Are you leaving the 118?” Buck asks, his voice getting a little higher as the panic begins to blossom in his chest.
“No - well, yes, but not for long.” He’s sure Buck can hear his very audible sigh of relief that the clarification. “Athena and I have been trying to find the right time to take our honeymoon, and I think after this, we both deserve some time off.”
“You’re honeymoon… yeah, it’s been four years, Cap. I think it’s about time.” Buck adds, a teasing tilt to his voice. “How long are you going to be gone?”
“Just a few weeks. I’ll be so quick you won’t even miss me.” Buck highly doubts that, and tells him so. “While I’m gone, I’m going to need someone to hold down the fort over at the station.”
“The 118 isn’t the same without you, but I know Hen will do a great job. She always does.” It had taken Buck some time to settle with Bobby’s thoughts about his leadership of the 118 before, but he knows Hen is a good interim captain. Even when she was busting her ass studying for medical school, she was still the kind of leader the 118 needed while Bobby was gone. He knows this time won’t be any different - well, maybe it’ll be even better now that the 118 has her full attention.
Because of this, Bobby’s next statement though takes him by surprise. “Actually, Buck, I was going to ask you to take over for me.”
“Really? Me?” Buck sputters, his voice laced with disbelief.
“Yes, Buck, you.” Bobby assures him. “I know we talked about this earlier this year about how you weren’t ready, but I think you’ve shown a lot of growth since then. I told you that you needed some experience, and today you really showed up. When we needed you, you stepped in and became the leader the 118 needed. Hen, Eddie, Athena, Chim, Ravi… they were all really impressed by you today. So was I. If you still want to lead, I think you’re ready now. I know you are.”
“Are you sure? I mean.. You want me, to be interim captain? Even though I don’t have a couch?” Buck asks, recalling their previous discussion on the topic.
“I thought your mom bought you a couch?” Bobby says skeptically.
“Yeah, she did. But, that’s not what I mean, really.” Buck says, still shaking his head. Needing some reassurance, he ducks out of the kitchen door and moved back out into the living room. “The couch isn’t really a couch it’s a-” He cuts himself off at the scene before him.
On the navy couch, the one that he falls asleep effortlessly on all the time, Eddie and Chris are fast asleep. Chris is curled up into Eddie’s side, arm gently thrown over his dad’s stomach. His glass are titled on his face, from where his face is buried in Eddie’s shoulder. Eddie on the other hand has his head resting against his arm. Said arm is stretched across the back of the couch, almost as if it was reaching for the empty seat on the left. Buck’s empty seat.
Buck thinks back to a conversation he had with Maddie years ago about his place in the Diaz home: This is Eddie’s house. I’m not really a guest. Even then he felt like Eddie’s house was his home more than his apartment. Now, with Kameron sleeping in his bed and Buck sleeping - well, not really sleeping - on his couch in his loft, he’s felt more like a guest there than he has here. Because It’s true.
It’s not that the couch at his loft is ridiculously uncomfortable compared to Eddie’s, it’s that it’s not where it should be. His loft is cold, empty, lifeless. The Diaz house is warm, caring, lived-in. There are more photos of Buck on the walls, more life, more compassion inside the Diaz house than there ever will be in Buck’s loft. If Buck’s being honest, it has nothing to do with the couch itself, than the people sitting on it. And isn’t that what he’s been looking for? Someone - someones - that make him feel like he’s at ease… at home?
“You know what Cap… I think… I think I do have a couch.” Buck says, a little breathless at the realization that everything he’s been looking for has been right in front of him the entire time.
Bobby’s light laugh rings through the phone when he says, “I know you do, kid. Take care of the 118 for me while I’m gone, alright? I expect a full report when I get back in two weeks.”
“Will do, Cap. I’ll keep the clipboard handy.”
“Oh, and Buck.” Bobby adds, “I’m glad you found the right couch. I knew you would.” Before Buck can ask him to elaborate, the captain has already hung up. He’s tempted to call back and ask him to, but now is not the time.
He simply tucks his phone back into his pocket, and pulls the throw blanket from the back of the couch. As he settles back down into his spot, he tosses the blanket over him and his Diaz boys. He knows he needs to talk to Eddie about what he’s realized tomorrow, but tonight having them like this is enough. It doesn’t take more than a minute for Buck to fall back asleep with a smile still on his lips.

temptation tuesday/wip wednesday
i've been tagged in stuff the past couple of days by @usercowboy @swiftiebuckleys @buddiefication @madneysjee @gayhoediaz @wh0re-behavi0r so i decided i'm combining the two and giving you snippets from TWO (2!!) different fics wow!!
from 5+1 eddie dating fic:
Vanessa's...pretty.
She's tall and slender and she has a contagious laugh, and in another life Eddie thinks that...maybe. Probably. They'd have had a couple more drinks together, both letting go of their inhibitions. She'd probably have found some excuse to touch him, a playful swat, and Eddie would've turned up the smoulder. He'd have waited for her uber with her at the end of the night, wrapping his jacket around her. Then he would've locked eyes with her, a question speaking a thousand words as he leaned in, their noses brushing, but—
But Vanessa's not over her ex, she says. Her smile is pretty too, as apologetic as it is as she tells him you're a really nice guy, Eddie. Eddie thinks he should feel disappointed— hurt, maybe. At the fact he got dressed up so nice for someone to not even give him the time of day. But he doesn't. He just feels relieved. His shoulders drop as he downs the rest of his drink, and all he can think of is home and bed and Christopher's science project and Buck's lasagne and—
Eddie doesn't know what to do with all of that.
from 6x18 spec:
Opening his eyes is a feat in and of itself, feeling like there's weights on both of them. He blinks a couple of times, disoriented. He can't quite put his finger on why, yet, but everything just screams wrong. He tries to move past the pounding in his head to figure out what happened as he slowly sits up, coughing and spluttering as he looks around. They were on their way to the hospital, Chim was working on the patient—
Eddie's blood turns to ice instantly. Chimney.
"Chim!" Eddie shouts, a hoarse thing that's swallowed by a cough. He looks around frantically, the lack of light in the back of the ambulance serving to aid the nasty concussion he probably has brewing. A pained groan cuts through the air, making Eddie stop in his tracks. "Chim?"
"'m here." a quiet voice mumbles. "Can't get up though."
"Okay, alright, stay where you are." Eddie says, climbing over the medical equipment strewn on the floor. "Are you hurt?"
Silence fills the ambulance for a few seconds, an uneasy feeling settling in Eddie's gut. "Chim?"
"Eddie, I— hah, I'm bleeding."
"How bad?" Eddie demands, throwing miscellaneous medical equipment over his shoulder, nausea filling his gut as he sees a small puddle of red spreading across the side of the ambulance, a sick imitation of a work of art.
"I'd say pretty bad."
i'm not sure who's done it yet uhhhh @capseycartwright @trippedandfell @henswilsons @clusterbuck @burnthatbridge step up to the mic pls xxx

Someone has to arrest @spaceprincessem because she keeps enabling me when I don't have time and have other wips to work on but again I found myself writing something else.
I don't know if I can call this a spec or just an idea for 6x18
Title: Everyone sees it but you (Right under your nose)
Ship: Buddie (Evan 'Buck' Buckley)/Eddie Diaz
Chapters: 1/1
Word Count: 5k
Summary:
“We are on our way! We will get you out.” Buck was faster than Bobby and he was already getting on his feet. Natalia just stared at him.
“No.” It was quiet but sure. “You can’t, if you move anything, everything will fall apart and you can hurt more people than me.”
“Eddie, I’m not going to leave you behind!” Buck’s voice came out angry, he couldn’t believe that Eddie was asking him that.
“You have to. I’ll be fine.” Eddie was already sounding like he was drawing out his voice, using all his strength.
“You will bleed out. What about Christopher?” Buck said in between teeth, the radio in his hand complaining about the strength that it was being used on it.
“Chris will be taken care of. He will be in good hands. Because he will be with you.” It was the first time they talked about this since Eddie was shot and the last thing Buck wanted was to go home and tell Christopher that this time he couldn’t save his father. That he had failed.

Chim hurt. Only Hen and Buck are wearing a harness.
So Eddie and Chim are trapped and Hen and Buck out of their minds coming to the rescue. Both Chim and Hen will be confronting Eddie and Buck about WHY they're absolutely losing it and make them half admit their feelings.
Buddie hug each other hard when Hen and Buck finally get to Chim and Eddie.
Last scene:
Eddie opens the door to a nicely dressed Buck sheepishly holding flowers in his hand.
"Hey"
"Hey"
"Uhm I thought I'd bring you these." He hands over the flowers and Eddie smiles.
From behind Eddie a grinning Chris and an amused looking Carla appear who says, "Ok I'll be taking these. You boys go and have fun."
Eddie presses a quick kiss on top of Chris' head and walks out to the car. Buck grins at Carla and Chris says, "Have a good date, Buck, " while he starts giggling and Buck looks kind of embarrassed.
"Thanks buddy," he answers and Carla winks at him before Buck follows Eddie to the car.

Very curious why buck won’t be happy to see lucy ( probably she’d have to save someone of the 118) and of course the couch metaphor, what meant Oliver saying it won’t be resolved until the last buck’s scene? He goes to buy a couch with eddie and has his OH moment? What do you think?
I think like, at this point, Buck will be indifferent about Lucy.
They got past that one miserable scene in 5x11, and moved on to better working relationship, I think at this point it's just to bring Lucy in to close that end of her story and have her do a cool rescue with her new team, new position.
Because Lucy, is a fun daredevil, who grew up with four cops brothers, doing all these things is in her nature, she didn't fit into the 118 permanently, because unlike Buck, she's an untameable spirit, and that's also kind of what I liked about her.
So, like Buck said in the opening in S6a, in that buddiepher very domestic scene, "Don't get me wrong, I think Lucy is whatever. You know, she's great, but she's out." (911 6x01)
Buck has no feelings for Lucy. He was always focused on Eddie, even when he was dating Taylor.
Tumblr media
You can see on Lucy's face here that she knows that Taylor's shovel talk was aimed at the wrong person.
So, really, Lucy coming back for an episode rescue is probably not going to be that momentous to Buck, so much as KR likes Arielle and probably wants to give her a nice ending.
To be fair, I liked Arielle since The Vampire Diaries, so I never really had in me to hate her, lol. 😉
As for that couch, I am hoping that his current, soon to be one anyway catches fire with the rest of that uncomfortable loft (designed first by Ali and now his mother) and he either gets a new place helped by Eddie and Christopher or he moves in with the Diazes and the right couch.
I'll be happy with either. 👀💜

Color Him Father, Color Him Love
buck/eddie | rated: G | 3K | 6x18 spec? | ao3
“I actually just came from the hospital,” Buck says, and something of worry or concern must show on Eddie’s face, because he immediately follows that with, “Not— not for me. I was visiting Connor and Kameron. And— well, he— he doesn’t have a name yet. They’re still debating. But he’s pretty cute.”
Ah. Well. Of course Buck would make a cute kid. Eddie slouches and sinks back into the couch cushions, and wants to pass out and sleep even more now. “I don’t doubt it.”
“I got to hold him,” Buck says quietly, staring at his own hands propped palms-up on his lap. “They let me hold him.”
And it was everything you’ve ever wanted but you knew it wasn’t yours and you had to hand him back to whoever he might belong to and it shattered your heart in a thousand pieces?
Or is that just Eddie thinking of— things he shouldn’t be thinking of. But it’s hard not to think when Buck is right here and he’s made of love and sunshine and looks soft and beautiful in the light of late morning. And Eddie wants so badly to keep him. He also doesn’t want to bring up a potentially painful subject. But Buck had to have come over for a reason. Eddie asks, gently, carefully, but he does ask, “You regretting it now?”
It takes a few seconds for Buck to exhale and then smile. But he smiles. And it feels real. “No. See. That’s the thing. I was worried I might, you know, feel—not regret necessarily, but sadness? Or something like it? Happy for them but sad for me? I was worried I might look at him or I might even hold him, and think about missing out because he’s not mine. But I didn’t.”
Eddie nods slowly, breathes slowly, and at least that’s good. That Buck is content. Not sure why he felt the need to rush over here when both of them should be sleeping off their shift. For at least a few hours. But as long as he’s all right. “Good. That’s good.”
“Connor was worried, too. That he wouldn’t feel like it’s really his kid. But then I held the baby. And… he’s cute and I love kids, I’ve always loved kids, and maybe he might look kind of like me one day? He has a big, pointy nose like mine, which I’m sure they could have done without. But…” Buck trails off and turns his hands so they’re palm down and resting on his legs. And then he looks over at Eddie. “It didn’t feel like anything. He didn’t feel different from any other baby I’ve held. And I put him back in Connor’s arms, and I could see the way his face changed. The way he lit up and teared up and might have cried because that is his son.”
The moment he mentions it, tears clearly pool in Buck’s eyes as well. So vivid in the sea of soft blue, but lit with the bright sunshine of the smile on his face. “I could tell that he felt it. I could see it. When he looked at that little boy and knew he would do anything to make him happy and he’d do anything to protect him and give him the life that he should have.”
Buck makes gestures with both hands like he’s trying to clutch something to his chest, like he feels so much and can’t contain it. “And all I could think. Even if I shouldn’t. Was that I know that feeling.” He laughs but it comes with tears. And more words. “I know what it feels like to hold a kid and care about them and want to protect them. But it’s so different when it feels like they’re yours. It’s so much more. Even if you didn’t— Even if it’s not biological and you’re not. You’re not really the father. Because I hold Chris. I hold him and I feel like he is part of me.”
~~~ Buck has a revelation about what he is to Chris. And to Eddie.
hey so um. the collapse at the happiness convention- obviously we're going to circle back to that in the finale. they're both structural collapses, for one, and "pay it forward" is the natural thematic evolution of "crash and learn." you crash, you learn, you pass it on. rinse and repeat. that's life!
we've spent a lot of time connecting lev's story to buck's, and there's definitely parallels there. buck's spent the season on his quest for happiness, after all.
but-
these new stills of eddie injured in the finale just keep gnawing at my brain. it looks like he's either got a broken arm, a dislocated shoulder, and/or broken ribs. any one of which would, realistically speaking, wind up benching him from the rescue efforts. you can't safely climb through piles of unstable rubble with the use of one arm on a set of fractured ribs, much less be able to pull victims to safety.
walk with me here:
Lev: you live your whole life, doing everything you're supposed to. marriage, kids. big house, nice cars. weekends at the shore.
Buck: hey, that, uh, doesn't sound too bad, right?
Lev: it wasn't. it's just this 40-year blur. work and family. never enough time. until one day work stops, and everything finally comes into focus.
never enough time?
👀...huh. maybe lev was never meant to represent buck, after all. it's starting to look like he's been eddie all along.
so. 6x18, eddie's at work. but he's on the bench, right? i'd say that's pretty much the definition of "one day, work stops."
and, just for kicks, let's revisit that sentence structure there reeeeeeal quick:
work and family. never enough time. until one day work stops, and everything comes into focus.
work and family, but the work's stopped.
that just leaves family, now doesn't it?
just in time for it to come into focus.
Seven Sentence Sunday
That`s my wip spec about 6x18 based on this post by @loveyourownsmiilee . It would be mostly Buck and Chim fic
Buck can feel how Hen keeps looking at him. Yes, she didn't clean him, and he probably has concussion, cause even though he has not the greatest knowledge in medicine, he is familiar with the symptoms. But he can`t stop working. He can't let stupid natural disaster take two people he cares so deeply about. His brother-in-law (even if it's not official yet) and his … his Eddie.
Eddie for Buck is someone you can't just describe with one term. Best friend, partner at the job and in life, even co-parent. Eddie is everything. The safe space he can run to anytime, the person he can trust to show all his parts, be vulnerable with. Eddie is someone who knows him even better than he himself. Eddie is an easy nights with beers and talks, video games or movie nights. Eddie is a meaningful conversations in the kitchen, but also stupid jokes only them can understand. Eddie is a loving teasings. Eddie is the air Buck breathes. Eddie is, if Buck lets himself think about it ...
But Buck can`t let him think about all of this now. He has the job he has to do. He needs to save his family, not make an important revelation about himself and his relationship with Eddie. So, he continues to dig and clear the road of pieces of the bridge, praying to all the gods to find them sooner and safe and sound.
