#911 is still Tim's show and he still knows these characters best. He knows how to achieve what he wants from them

I don't think we need to see less of Buck, actually. I just think we need to see more of everyone else. 911's strength has always been their balance between the individual characters, dynamics, and so forth. But Buck has been The Main Character for at least a season and a half now (through no fault of Oliver's, of course; judging by his language, he's been frustrated with it too). So reestablishing what 911 is and always will be -- a harmonious symbiosis between the core characters -- rather than shoving him to the front lines to "carry" a show that, at its peak, has never needed to be carried at all, is the thing that's needed. At least, that's what I'm getting from everyone's complaints

I find it very interesting that Tim Minear told an interviewer that they are “basically laying down the train tracks on 911 while the train is still moving”. And then he further added that they’re still “in the middle of writing episodes 8-10” which are literally set to air next month. So what this tells me is that they are definitely waiting to gauge general audience reactions for the storylines they have leading up to the small hiatus. Because the hiatus gives them plenty of time to rewrite anything that might not be accepted positively or double down and perfect their initial ideas.
Now what I find a little suspicious is that Tim is a calculated person. We know that he called Oliver ahead of his current storyline and talked to him about what his plans were for Buck, which was his sexuality storyline. Now isn’t it strange how another person on the show, Ryan Guzman, seems so happy and keeps assuring in all his interviews that the writers take into consideration feedback from fans and are going to give us what we want? All the interviews he’s done with Oliver, just give off vibes that they both know something we don’t know. So why would Ryan be so confident in what the writers are writing when according to Tim, they still don’t have anything concrete written for the last three episodes of the season? Unless…unless Tim has also called up Ryan and expressed what his plans are for his character’s storyline for the season. Maybe it was even a joint call of some sort to let both Ryan and Oliver know that he perhaps has plans to get the ball rolling for bringing Buddie together romantically. And what way to do that is by dipping his toe in first with Buck’s storyline with Tommy to see how the general audience reacts to the possibility of Buck dating a man.
Meanwhile Tim has also shown how strong Buck and Eddie are as a family unit with Christopher in episode 7.01. So whatever happens in 7.05 before the hiatus, it’s likely to arise some questions for viewers. And while sifting through the comments and feedback, it’ll help Tim make up his mind on how to finish off this season. Which means it can very possibly end with a big confirmation that Buddie is happening come season 8.
I just think with Tim sharing so many Buddie stills to his personal Facebook page before the season even aired, choosing that specific Buckley Diaz family moment in 7.01, and confirming that they don’t have plans for Buddie “right now” doesn’t confirm it’s not happening. On the contrary, I think he’s literally waiting and watching how the public reacts before coming up with a concrete plan on when it is time to make it happen. Everything he’s done and said just seems so deliberate in my honest opinion.
And both Ryan and Oliver’s behavior also seem very deliberate and I can go on and on about that as well but I’ll just say they’re behaving very differently this season overall than any other season. I mean just look at how often Oliver shares Ryan on his stories. And how quickly Ryan shares 911 content and pictures taken by Oliver to his stories. This has never been the case between these two in all 6 years they’ve worked together. All that aside, choosing both of them to interview together, discuss their storylines and promote together was a definite choice made by whoever is in charge. So why those two specifically when it could’ve been any other 911 cast member? Peter and Angela had a three episode arc and we didn’t get a single joint interview together. We know JLH and Kenny have a big wedding storyline coming up and have yet to get a single joint interview with them. Aisha and Tracie have a storyline coming up about them adding to their family and we don’t have any interviews with them. But we also don’t have any interviews with just like Kenny and Aisha since they also play best friends on the show. Like all these decisions that were made ahead of this season are very suspicious to me especially when you consider literally everything else that’s been said by Tim and both Ryan and Oliver. So I guess take what you will with all this information but I’m just very suspicious about everything that’s going on.

let's think about this seriously, for a second.
oliver has said in an interview that yes, buck knows he is jealous, but he doesn't know why he is jealous (yet).
arielle was supposed to be the one to come back to pick up her role as lucy, but since she was unable to, due to filming a different show at the time- tim asked lou to come back. tim said he specifcially wanted someone who was already apart of the 911 universe, he wanted someone who had a bit of history with everyone.
that being said... if lucy was the one that came back and grew a closer bond with eddie, how would that be revolutional? why would oliver feel "a sense of responsibility" if buck was to only have a silly crush on her and be jealous that eddie was spending time with her?
the thing is- it simply wouldn't be.
tommy/lucy were always meant to act as a plot device to help buck realize his feelings for eddie. i am so certain of it.
one more thing! why have oliver say that the 100th episode- specifically talking about buck's storyline- would change the entire series....
.... if it was just buck being canonically bisexual. it wouldn't. but you know what would? learning that buck has been in love with his best friend, someone who is also a main character in the show, and a bonf we have gotten to witness since the very beginning (at least since season two lol but still!)
buddie is happening, and i officially have zero doubts at this point.

Y'all cannot just have one normal thing can you xD
Poor babies 😭 they goin through it as always xd
At least it wasn't some terrible big scheme on their wedding itself lol
Just random stuff and a small bad thing xD
OPE GUYS O.O
Okay, that's the last of my promo thoughts, now it's time for the. . .
REVIEW
Not quite as fancy as my 911 or tgd ones lol, more like the normal ones, just with the end of a liveblog as well :).
I made a post about this before coming back to this one, but happy 100th episode all!! Lowkey forgot this was the 100th anniversary lol. But it makes so much sense and it was a GREAT 100th episode :D.
I love that everyone had their little moment (at least): James with the music, Wesley with Oscar, Luna with her college classes, etc :). And just Randy, Chastity, Oscar, and Henry BEING there lol. Though to clarify Oscar was not at the wedding xD. But seriously, I really loved all the cameos and little character moments this episode :)).
Also CHENFORD AAAHHHH!!! Their MOMENTS this episode y'all I was losing it xD. I do kinda wish it hadn't been that Tim isn't supporting her despite thinking he is, though? Because the vibes last episode were just really on Tim's side, I guess, and now they're just tossing him into "bad guy" a bit. But, I think it'll work out in the end. I'm also glad Chastity brought up that Lucy could also be scared! I think that's a real possibility :). Anyway, they were ABSOLUTELY ADORABLE and whether it was the first time in universe or not, WHOOO FIRST I LOVE YOU!! And it was so cute :'D. Also the dance 😭😭😭❤️ stop I'm not okay :').
BAILEY AND JOHN ARE MARRIED!!! WHOOOOOO :'DDDD!!!! 🥳🥳🥳🥳🎊🎉🥂🎂🥂🥰❤️❤️🥰. I'm so happy for them :'DD
They might not be my favorite couple on the show but I still love them and this has been a long time coming. I'm also glad that despite all the issues they still had the wedding and everything was okay and beautiful 🥰🥰. Thank goodness they actually had it and we saw it lol (looking at you Wopez - still mad at the writers for that). Also I'm SO EXCITED for the next episode with their honeymoon :D.
I felt so bad for Celina and Aaron this episode 😭. Aaron because poor boy is going through it and misreading signals/situations xd, and Celina because she's trying to be there for him and do what's best and she as also, you know, kidnapped and beat up xD. But, I think they'll make it through it :).
Really though Aaron you need to talk to your therapist 😭. It's dangerous going out when you know you're not healing :(. Hope he learns it soon D':.
I loved all the togetherness moments this episode!! The bachelor and bachelorette parties (y'all I can't articulate it beyond loving individual characters and them all hanging out but oUAGH chomping on it)/last minute preparations xD were SO GOOD!! And the wedding, especially the dancing :'D. AUOGH, I love them <333. And of course the final mission at the end - they slay together :DD. Also, I'm glad Celina's okay :')).
Don't even get me started on the Wopez/Wesley angst. Y'all I'm about to have so many thoughts about them moving forward (even more than usual/always xD). Like! AUGH! OSCAR!! SITTING ACROSS FROM HIM!! DO YOU KNOW HOW LONG I'VE WAITED FOR THIS
Where's the panic attack Rookie <33
Where's the panic attack writers 🥰🥰 where is it :))
I'm kidding xD kind of lol. But seriously, the angst thoughts are turning (the wheels are turning) :DD. And don't forget about Angela either lol
Anyway! Everybody slayed this episode and I REALLY enjoyed it :D. I'm SOO excited for the next one :)). Also, again (mentioned it in the liveblog or just before), I don't know that I've ever gotten to watch it live before, so this was the perfect episode to get to do it :D.
Loved the episode!!!
Happy 100th Episode guys 🥂🥰🥰. I love this show and you all so much :DD.
See you next time!!

Someone said AK should definitely get that elusive 3rd 911 show because she's so well known and so great in the role which is HILARIOUS to me because most people still had zero idea who she was, and even fans of her other work hate Lucy and think AK's performance as her is weird 🤣
But I also wish I could go back to not knowing who she was, and the second she is no longer cluttering up the show, I will forget she ever existed.
The third series theory has (unfortunately) been tossed around since we found out MW wasn't going away in early s5. The "fear" was that Timothy was so in love with her (because he brought her back) that he'd make sure she had a future with the 911verse in some way. *Cut to KR's s5 interview where she stated that Megs was affordable and simply available when they were scrambling to fix holes in episodes.* (This part isn't directed at you since you know this already) AK getting a role in a not-yet-realized third series makes MORE sense than MW because she *is* a first responder, but even IF Tim & co. find the time to bring another set of fictional firefighters to our screens (big IF because none of us know how much hands-on work Tim is doing these days...Is he satisfied? Has he done enough to no longer be a perpetual loser in the eyes of the public?) she won't be the *star* because 1) her name alone isn't enough to entice viewers and 2) the GA is at best indifferent to her character until they are given a reason to root for her development and success. They'd have to bring in someone with Angela or Rob's level of fame and experience to work with her. As for wanting to go back to not knowing who she was...it sure is interesting that yet another young(er) white female character has legit a defense squad in her honor. The only ones who didn't benefit from stan culture were Abby and Ana. How Lucy (as currently constituted) is considered less boring than Ana...
Hmm.
Hmmm.

911 4x14 - thoughts and rambles
Okay, I just watched the finale of 911 after I managed NOT to get spoiled all day long. I’m still proud of that fact by the way. I wanted to peek at spoilers so badly, but because work was so exceptionally busy I made it work. And I’m so happy that I had no idea what was coming.
I’m not one to write episode reviews or anything like that, but I feel the need to write down some of my rambling thoughts, because this episode really blew me away in many ways. It was like a good fanfic come to life. I have to admit that, when I opened Tumblr, I was a little surprised that, in between the positivity, there was still quite some negativity about this episode. All while I’m sitting here, still crying over that great ending with ‘Skyscraper’. So, let me get these random thoughts out.
Be warned! Spoilers and thoughts on the overall storylines from the episode, different characters and of course relationships between characters after the cut. Mainly Buddie positive relationship thoughts though, because this episode filled me with the Buddie-feels. 😊
1. The episode as a whole felt a little rushed. The sniper storyline wasn't well-developed at all. I think that probably has to do with the fact that they had to shorten the season because of—well, you all know why. Let’s not spoil my happy mood here.
2. Eddie and Buck and all the blood—man, that entire sequence of events with Buck rescuing Eddie was just *chef’s kiss*. And the way he was in shock and shaking when he was talking to Taylor. Such good acting by Oliver! Also, did Taylor call Chris ‘his son’? I mean—what? Even outsiders can see it now. The Buckley-Diaz family vibes are real.
3. Question: How is it that Athena seems to be the only capable police officer that actually does any work on this show? She seems able to do everything: patrolling, investigating, finding evidence without any problem or help, walking into a fire and shooting people… You name it and Athena Grant-Nash will do it. And other police officers just let her as well. Is there no hierarchy in this fictional police force? I love Athena to bits, but this was a bit too much for me, if I’m honest.
4. Maddie! Yes, she’s getting help. Thank God. Listen, I’ve been there, right after child-birth. There was no fluffy pink cloud for me either. Just a lot of greyness. I started talking to someone when I felt it was getting to be too much and it really helped. So hopefully, she’ll get through this eventually. I’m hoping that they won’t brush over it in S5. I want to see her progress.
5. Bathena. Man, those two. Such a strong couple. One of the greatest fictional couples out there. I’ve always liked Bobby. Hell, I started watching 911 because Peter Krause was in it and I used to be obsessed with ‘sports night’ way back when in the nineties. 😊 I just loved how Athena showed up and rescued her man in a direct parallel on how he showed up when she got attacked and he was ready to kill someone to save her. Couple’s goals, I’m telling you.
6. Nia was back! That is all! I loved that so much!
7. Albert wanting to be a firefighter felt a little strange to me, but okay. Good for him I suppose. I admit that I don’t really care about him that much. He’s not a character that really speaks to me.
8. Buck and Christopher. Pffff—THAT scene where Buck broke down and Chris consoled him that Eddie would be fine. I mean, yeah—they really pushed the whole ‘Buck is Chris’ dad’ storyline. And then Eddie went and actually made it official. What can I say? I cried— hard.
9. Carla’s little talk with Buck. So many parallels to last week’s talk with Eddie. I mean, the first thing Buck thinks about is Eddie when he is asked how he’s doing. I’m a firm believer that Carla knows there is something unexplored there, right under the surface. If those dumb boys would just figure it out already.
10. That brings me to all the Buddie. Oh man, this episode soothed my aching Buddie-heart so much. It was like reading a good solid Buddie fic. It was all there, the terror and heartbreak, the fear to lose the other, the ‘you’re not expendable’, the ‘I made you his legal guardian’… all of it.
In the end Buck and Taylor happened (I’m not really surprised there as it was a season finale and 911 likes to end that with happiness for everyone) and Eddie and Ana still seem to be together. At least Buck and Taylor acted like a couple and kissed. Eddie and Ana have this weird dynamic going on. A kiss on the cheek? Really?
I will say this: I didn’t mind Buck and Taylor getting together. Like— at all. It -weirdly enough- didn’t even phase me.
Mostly because I was reeling so hard from the infinitely much more powerful emotional connection that Buck and Eddie displayed. Buck saved Eddie, but in the middle of it Eddie was worried about Buck. Buck was not fine after he delivered Eddie to the hospital. He seemed broken. And then Taylor kissed him and ran off. She later told him ‘You didn’t chase me’ (or something like that) and I’m like— no, he didn’t, because right then Ana called him and he knew this would be about Eddie and Eddie will always be more important. He didn’t run after Taylor. He ran towards Eddie. There's something poetic about that. And then Ana stepped aside, and Eddie looked at him with the biggest most soft heart eyes that I’ve ever seen. He’s never looked like that at Ana. In the last scene, when he told Buck about the guardianship he looked so sure of himself. Then he basically told Buck everything he’s ever wanted and needed to hear. Buck told Taylor earlier that he never felt like he was enough. Well, Buck— Eddie just gave you his entire world (his son). You are more than enough for him.
As a single mother I can attest that it’s very important to think about what you want for your child if anything ever happens to you. You don’t take the decision of guardianship lightly. I’ve been there. I was Eddie. It’s hard to make the right choice. For him to make that choice—to make Buck, his best friend, the legal guardian of his child? That’s incredible.
Combine that with Carla’s question last episode about following his own heart and not Christopher’s. It seems to me that Eddie has seen the light and he’s started to partially follow his heart. He’s still not completely there yet, but if this narrative continues, I can see him breaking up with Ana next season, because he realises that following his heart means following Buck, not Ana. And of course, by then Buck will still be with Taylor and there might be pining. I’m all for that.
There were so many parallels between Buck/Taylor + Eddie/Ana and Buddie. Not to mention the clear parallel between Bathena’s storyline and Buddie’s storyline.
I just— I feel really good about this when it comes to romantic Buddie. Listen, I have nothing against platonic best friends Buddie and if that is your jam, you do you! But, for me, the narrative is clearly pushing us towards a romance. I’m getting some really good slow burn vibes here. So far it feels as if Buddie is still right on track with no signs of slowing down. Now, I don’t have a crystal ball or anything like that so I don’t know what the future will bring and showrunners can always change their minds if they really want to, but –in my humble opinion- there is no reversing this kind of emotional connection. If the showrunners really wanted to stop the ambiguity between Buddie, they could have easily done that in this episode. All they had to do was feature more Buck/Taylor and Eddie/Ana to strengthen their connection towards season 5. Instead they focused on the bond between Buck and Eddie and intertwined them even more in each other's lives. So yeah, personally I feel like this is clear: There is only one way to proceed with the storyline and that is forward.
I’m actually really excited for season 5! A lot more than I thought I was going to be two episodes ago. And now there's Tim with his cryptic little quotes about Buck and Eddie. Another thing to obsess about! YAY! 😊 It's a great feeling to start the hiatus like that.

StackedNatural Day 71: 7x10, 10x08, 11x08
StackedNatural Masterpost: [x]
December 2, 2021
7x10: Death's Door
Written by: Sera Gamble
Directed by: Robert Singer
Original air date: December 2, 2011
Plot Synopsis:
Bobby is close to dying. He must confront his worst memory to escape, before his reaper catches up to him.
Features:
Bobby’s coma and memories, Bobby’s abusive father, chased by a reaper, one of the best speeches of the entire show, Bobby has a choice to make.
My Thoughts:
I watched out of order to shake things up today so this was actually the last episode I watched and now I’m very sleepy, so bear with me. I watched this one with @meg3point0 again.
This is an episode where they show that they do actually know how to kill a character off in away that feels satisfying and earned. No Charlies in a bathtub here. Bobby gets the send off he deserves. Plus we get to see Rufus and his lil earring, which is a win for me and all the BobbyRufus girls.
The first time young Bobby showed up and said that God was gonna punish him, Meg said “once again Supernatural says that god is your abusive father”, and she was right. And the reaper looks super similar to Chuck, too.
There’s a million and one things to say about this episode, but. He died of the same headwound as he inflicted on his father, and he lived in the same house that he killed him in. Where’s that one post that’s like, “everything is about ghosts, except ghosts, which are about love”? Yeah, that. We’re all living in haunted houses. The only way out of our trauma is through it. And sometimes they do thank you.
Notable Lines:
“Deep like... Crap you do not want to think about, so you bury it, you shove other crap over it, and you don't go there, ever.”
“Biggest regret of my life, this fight. You'd think it was when I had to stab her to death, but... no. All through that... I was thinking we never got to get past this.”
“I was a kid! Kids ain't supposed to be grateful! They're supposed to eat your food and break your heart, you selfish dick! You died, and I was still so afraid I'd turn into you I never even had kids of my own. [...] Well, as fate would have it, I adopted two boys, and they grew up great. They grew up heroes. So you can go to hell!”
“You did what you had to do. This is where you learn that... they pretty much never say thanks when you save 'em.”
Laura’s (completely subjective) Episode Rating: 9.8
IMdB Rating: 9.2
10x08: Hibbing 911
Written by: Jenny Klein
Directed by: Tim Andrew
Original air date: December 2, 2014
Plot Synopsis:
Jody Mills is matched with an overeager partner during a mandatory sheriff's retreat; when a gruesome corpse is discovered, Jody calls Sam and Dean to help investigate.
Features:
Donna Hanscum and the Sheriff’s Retreat, Sheriff Hank from Corner Gas, Donna’s asshole ex-husband, vampire sheriff, vampires with a conscience, Donna’s first kill.
My Thoughts:
So I definitely watched season 10 live, but to be honest I remember almost none of it. I remember bits and pieces of Jody and Donna meeting but nothing else from the episode. I actually thought it was Donna’s intro episode but I guess it’s just her and Jody’s first meeting.
I love Donna and she and Jody have great chemistry onscreen so that turns an otherwise average or even mediocre plot into a really fun one.
Jody pretends to be annoyed by Donna way past the point that she’s actually annoyed at her out of principle, I think, but she sticks up for her and she trusts that she’ll be good on a hunt once she’s in on the details of the supernatural. Donna is a badass behind her sunny disposition and she wants to protect people. Honestly, if the phone call while Sam and Dean were in the bunker was their only appearance in the episode, I would have been fine with it.
I’m getting mad again that Wayward Sisters wasn’t picked up. They really set it up so long before they tried the backdoor pilot. They didn’t need to make Donna a recurring character but they did and now I have to know what I’m missing out on.
Notable Lines:
“‘He-wolf/She-Wolf: A Study in Werewolf Transgenderism.’ 600 pages, volume 1.”
“You know, this badge means something.” “I made it at Kinko’s.” “Yes, you did. Be proud of that.”
“What the cuss? A vampire?”
“I just… chopped off… a vampire’s head.” “You were great at that!” “Thanks!”

11x08: Just My Imagination
Written by: Jenny Klein
Directed by: Richard Speight Jr.
Original air date: December 2, 2015
Plot Synopsis:
Sam is shocked when his imaginary childhood friend, Sully, makes an unexpected appearance. Sam tries to understand why he is seeing Sully now. Even more surprising, Dean can see him too.
Features:
Dead imaginary friends, Sam’s friend Sully, Sam’s lonely childhood, the Zanna imaginary friend management hierarchy, air guitar
My Thoughts:
This is actually the first episode I watched today and it’s also one that I’ve never seen before because I missed all of season 11 when I originally watched the show. I’d heard good things about it in passing but honestly I wasn’t expecting to like it as much as I did!
The main place I’d seen it mentioned was in this post by @billiewena on Queer Sam Subtext and so I was honestly expecting the episode to be, like, mildly homophobic, but the worst it got was Dean saying that Sully isn’t a person in a throwaway line in the opening scene, which is really just to set up him changing his opinion in the back half. Also, Dean is defensive because he’s repressed imo, and because Sully was a replacement for him when he couldn’t be there for Sam.
Some of these episodes that are written to be ~wacky~ get a bit cringey at times, but I didn’t find that with this one at all. Maybe because of the sincere love from all of the Zanna towards their kids, it didn’t feel as tongue-in-cheek.
I love episodes where John is implied rather than physically present, like this one and Drag Me Away (From You). It makes him as ominous and shadowy as some of the scarier monsters in earlier seasons where we never see their face, but only their consequences.
I’m finding that I’m a big fan of Richard Speight Jr.’s directing - even episodes with terrible scripts he can usually make visually interesting. The lighting in particular in this episode was great, especially the hostage scene with Dean and the serious conversation between Sam and Sully right before that. In the hostage scene Dean’s face is all lit with red while Reese is in darkness, and in the other scene when we’re looking at Sam in profile, his face is lit while everything behind him is in darkness, and there’s strong rim lighting on his profile as well. It reminded me of the imagery of Galahad at the end of season 10 when Sam thinks of him as an example of purity that he can’t attain. And now Sam is the one lit like he’s holy! I’m not usually a Samgirl but this episode kind of came out of nowhere and hit me in all my Jr. High/High School feelings about Sam. Also the fact that Sam’s hell trauma is given an acknowledgement in this season when it’s been largely ignored for the last few years is awesome.
Notable Lines:
“I was a pretty lonely kid, Dean.”
“It’s your choice, Sam. It’s your life, I mean, it’s all up to you.”
“So now you and Sully are like, back together?”
“I’m a Winchester. I hunt monsters.”
“When you went off to hunt, I considered that one of my biggest failures. It just seemed so clear to me that you wanted something else.”
Laura’s (completely subjective) Episode Rating: 9.5
IMdB Rating: 9.0
In Conclusion: Like, a REALLY good set of stacked today. Not even necessarily in terms of theme, just good episodes.

You made a tag comment about how Buddie wasn't planned from the beginning. And therefore what we got in Season 2 wasn't (at the time) the groundwork for a love story. I agree completely! Much of it I can see as either a bit of fun (the Christmas elf, the instagram girl) or that kind of hyper-masc heterosexuality that loops around itself and becomes gay (Buck's whole...thing with Eddie in the beginning, the focus on Eddie's body/hotness/physical appearance). But sometimes I step back and look at the whole and I'm all 🧐 🤔.
I don't even know what I'm asking lol. Would just love your thoughts/feelings on the confusing spectacle that are Buck and Eddie in season 2. And when/how/why did the show change their mind?
Thank you so much for the ask and you know what? Let’s talk about it.I recently had an in depth chat about this pretty unpopular opinion with a friend and I tried to explain to her why I don't see buddie as an actual pairing or having any canon potential until early s3 and why I don't believe they were planned from the beginning. This will be long and all over the place of course lol
The first and the most obvious reason is the way 911 deals with main characters and their romantic arcs. They don't actually drag it on for long because there is no need or time for that since every single main character has a strong storyline of their own and any romantic development between any pair as an additional combined storyline. Relationships happen fast on 911 because they are planned ahead and the only relationship that took longer than usual few episodes was Chim and Maddie and they were already kissing and planning a date in 2x11.
Also when shows enter their second season there is never a way to predict how long it will stay on the air and because of that it is impossible for me to believe that buddie was planned as some epic old school slowburn that is nowhere as close to be resolved after 3 seasons. When I say old school slowburn I mean shows that have this one heterosexual romance at the center of the universe that is usually stretched across seasons and builds up sexual tension between characters and it takes literally years for them to finally get together. We have these two characters that where made for each other and you KNOW that they will eventually get together because of some ridiculous pining that will eventually end in a kiss and everyone will scream and cry.And maybe that’s how buddie feels to me now after years of careful build up-but the way I see it they as a potential something didn't happen in s2.
We all joke about how character introduction of Eddie is the gayest we have ever seen and Buck's reaction to him as true bisexual and I do that myself too because I am a bisexual too and tbh its hard to unsee (also I don't want to) but lets remove our rainbow glasses for a second. What really did happened in that scene? Eddie's perfect abs on display,Chim and Hen fun comments on how beautiful he is,Bobby's praise and bragging about getting Eddie and his Silver Star on the team and Buck's insecurities flaring up as a reaction to all of this.Buck immediately feels threatened. At this point we of course have no idea how deeply his insecurities run or why,but as episode progresses we witness Eddie on his first call making a better decision to how to handle a medical situation and backed up by Bobby. It has sort of a devastating effect on Buck, who suddenly starts acting like we have never seen him before. Then there is a that scene at the gym where Buck tells Eddie how he is his problem. And later we of course have the scene in ambulance when Eddie asked what exactly they are measuring. Because that's what it looked like - a usual macho men measuring context. But the thing is 911 doesn’t toxic masculinity when it comes to main male characters and we saw many examples of that already by then, but the biggest one was supposed to be BuckandEddie. Equals, partners and best friends.
911 was already pushing boundaries with cast, characters and relationships diversity and I strongly believe that what they wanted to show us was a male equivalent of what we are used to see in female bffs -a different kind of a friendship between men. Men who care about each other, who talk about feelings, discuss sex, dating or why they don’t,who again openly acknowledge that they find each other attractive and giving advices on how to take a more flattering selfie, who are not afraid of crying, admit they are struggling or heartbroken or loving their kid.Honestly when was the last time any of us saw a male friendship like theirs?Men are not allowed to be like that on TV (I am still shocked that its a Fox show tbh) and especially with each other. We are not used to see such a development so no wonder people started paying attention-which was what writers wanted,of course.
But that also brings us to that important question about queer undertones, subtext and do what we actually see in s2. Are there queer undertones?Absolutely. Subtext? It’s right there but you will probably not get it unless you’re reading between the lines. Before we get to Christmas Elf,there was ‘’He is cute!/He gets that a lot,you should’ve seen his kid...’’ Maddie and Buck scene that is once again reinforces that Buck finds Eddie attractive and it shouldn’t be a surprise because we already know from 2x01 he has eyes - but they mention it AGAIN and that personally made me raise a brow or two.By the time we get to that Christmas episode,we already have Shannon back and Buck finally moved on from Abby with Taylor and then Ali and then we are given another queer coded scene-with Christmas elf.And its very cute and to an average heterosexual viewer its a nice little joke, but any queer watching that scene was probably taken aback a little.
So why imo did Tim&Co do it and when they realized they can actually see where they can take BuckandEddie and when they started becoming buddie? My answer is ship teasing. It’s what a lot of people actually mistake for queer baiting, but we are not talking about that rn.Ship teasing works like charm and if shows can get away with that-they will totally use it to their advantage. It’s usually not always malicious, but it IS always intentional because that brings in a category of people that were overlooked for a long time-online fandom. Now I have seen some opinions that fandom doesn’t really matter,it’s the ratings that count and that is NOT TRUE.You can have your ratings, but if there is no buzz online?Your show is going nowhere. For at least a decade now every self-respecting production has teams to monitor fandom activities because it gives them better ideas about how consumers(fans) are interacting with their product (show).Fandom is important because we generate the buzz.So I do believe that BuckandEddie and that sweet ship teasing were to get a certain part of the fandom pay attention.
I wasn’t here when S2 aired so I don’t know if that was the case, but it is obvious that these scenes I talked about above made fans pay a LOT of attention. And maybe that was the reaction writers needed to start changing course from ship teasing to start building up to something else. They maybe didn’t plan it at the very beginning and on paper, but lets also not forget the insane chemistry between Oilver and Ryan, which imo is another big reason-it's impossible to ignore.
Because S3?Is light years away from S2 in terms of BuckandEddie-they became buddie. In s3 Buck and Eddie become each other’s significant other, they are in a primary relationship. ’’Buck invites Eddie...’’?!!!!! It is not yet romantic and probably won’t be until ending of s5 if we are lucky-but it is in your face, they are not subtle anymore.I personally saw buddie only at the end of 3x03 when Eddie came over and said that there is noone in the world he trusts with his son more than Buck, looking like he did into Buck’s eyes, while ‘Photograph’ played in the background right before Buck’s overvoice about being seen and found and a raft to bring one home. After S4 ending tho...we all know that something is about to happen and its like there is electricity in the air as we are waiting for s5!
Probably a lot more thoughts than you expected, but I have many feelings about these two and when buddie goes canon this post will become completely irrelevant lol 💖

just finished season four. i literally feel deranged. i already knew exactly what was gonna happen in the last two episodes and i STILL feel unhinged. oh my god
like!!! please please get maddie some help (which i am fully confident that chimney will but it still hurts to see her hurting); send bobby and athena to couples therapy; i did actually quite like hen and karen’s storyline as foster parents this season and i hope we get to see more of that
but eddie. oh my god eddie. i wish we could see his recovery but based on what i’ve been seeing on tumblr that isn’t super likely to happen. i just. i cannot believe what i just watched
and then the fucking CHANGING HIS WILL??? WHAT??? that’s not rly normal best friend behavior that’s like. i don’t even fucking know kind of behavior
so yeah. unhinged. this is incomprehensible —new 911 watcher
I HAD MORE THOUGHTS. why does carla tell eddie to make sure he’s following his heart and not christopher’s. what does that even MEAN. literally how could that be interpreted in any other way than “you have feelings for someone else who is not ana and you should follow up on that” and who else could it possibly be but buck? fuck i am losing my MIND —new 911 watcher
ahh omg anon, you finished it!!! honestly i watched those last few eps almost two months ago and i still feel unhinged lol
i definitely think maddie's ppd storyline is one that will be carried into next season so hopefully we'll see a lot more of that. and honestly i would kill for bobby and athena to dig into their problems more too!
as for everything eddie related.......I Know. the absolute chaos 911 unleashed in those last two episodes was incomprehensible, you're right. for what it's worth re: eddie's recovery i think people jumped the gun way too much about us getting nothing bc of the time jump at the end of the ep but like, even if he's back to work at the beginning of s5 and we don't see the immediate recovery, at the very least i'm expecting them to reference it.
tbh i'm envisioning something similar to buck's storyline in 3x01 like maybe eddie's only just back to work and struggling to adjust bc his recovery doesn't end when his shoulder is healed y'know!! while we don't always get the immediate aftermath for the characters, none of their traumas have ever been completely forgotten (buck's leg carries through half of s3, maddie's trauma with doug comes back in s3, bobby's alcoholism comes up multiple times including the s4 finale, chimney and the rebar are addressed again at the beginning of s2, even hen brings up evelyn and the ambulance crash in the crossover)
so i'm not too worried even though i would've killed for seeing him get through the first few weeks of everything. but tv shows love a good old time jump :/
but carla's line..............honestly out of every single thing 911 has done that was the one thing that made me stop and go, "wait we're dOING THIS?????????" people had theorised about it for weeks and i never expected it to actually happen. and you're so right!!!! the phrasing really does suggest there's someone else eddie wants and i don't know what to do with that!!!! @ tim you better address this in s5 ok i have questions
anyway i hope you had fun watching, anon, bc i loved hearing your thoughts throughout! :D

Yeah. I don't think we're *waiting* for Buddie to happen. We're in the process of *watching* it happen. (Also very much a skeptical queer who has been burned many times by het showrunners. Shocked myself at how hopeful I am!) There are too many intentional choices made, involving many people (script, acting, direction) long past the point of plausible deniability. This is either the cruelest homo-hating troll or the greatest queer love story of our time. And I don't think the show is cruel.
You said it best: we’re no longer waiting for buddie to happen, we’re watching it happen. This show is not cruel. 911 is one of the rare shows I’ve seen that handles such sensitive topics (divorce because one partner comes out as gay, domestic violence, addiction, finding love late in life, etc.) so beautifully, comprehensively, and respectfully. Hasn’t always been perfect, but there’s obviously been a lot of time, care, and attention put into creating the best stories possible. These writers love these characters and they love their journeys. To make this some beautiful, dramatic build with no follow through would not only be absolutely terrible to the viewers, but it would go against everything this show was built upon. I don’t think they’re going to do that.
Having said that, when I talk about canon buddie, I don’t know what that’ll look like. I don’t know if they’ll go all the way and bring it home with a kiss, or if it’ll be implied through hand-holding/other forms of intimacy, or even if it’ll be left up to viewer interpretation (think the end of BBC Sherlock if you’ve seen it), but I do know something is going to happen. It can’t not. The nature of fandom, and specifically shipping, is to draw from the behaviors of the characters on screen and extrapolate meaning and nuance where it isn’t always present. And while there are some buddie moments that can be read completely platonically (again, I’m a skeptic, I’ve gone over them with a finetooth comb), there are also so many more moments that demand explanation. There is something here. It’s not just fan conjecture, and at one point, Tim Minear et al. might have been able to brush it off as just “fans being fans.” God knows we’re not the only ship in existence. But each time they had the opportunity to brush it off, or rewrite Buck/Eddie’s exchanges to something concretely platonic, they just dug in even harder.
The lack of effort/development with Ana’s character, the marked change in the way Eddie interacts with Buck, Buck ensuring Christopher that he’s always going to be there for him no matter what (definitely not promises that are to be made lightly!!), all the jealousy on both of their parts, the camera showing Eddie’s reaction specifically when they reached Buck in Buck Begins, and then, of course, Buck in Eddie Begins, I mean... it’s just too many things to be brushed aside and ignored at something. And I think they know that. And I think that’s why we will see something, some kind of resolution here, because we’re well past the point where it can just be ignored and people still be satisfied. That’d be such a terribly incomplete story, and one thing 911 doesn’t do is write bad stories. and the story of Buck/Eddie has the potential to be one of the best stories on modern television.

911:Lone Star 2x08 Hate Watch
Here we go, though I heard mixed reports that this episode was better than the OG's 4x08? So we'll see.
Diaz for strength:
Tumblr media
And the hate is under the cut:
Things are almost instantly off to a bad start with TK as the very first person we see
Oh god SERIOUSLY WE'RE DOING THIS SOBER ANNIVERSARY FIRST FUCKING THING?
Like don't even ease us into it
We're just going right into the schmaltz INSTANTLY
"My parents got back together" oh TK you are in for a RUDE SHOCK MY MAN
No masks at this party
No social distancing
Pandemic, what pandemic?
Oh shit SHE'S MOVING OUT ALREADY
"We were right not to tell him" YOU'RE GOING TO HAVE TO TELL HIM AT SOME POINT YOU ASSHOLES
Just when I think Rob Lowe can't be more of an asshole, there he goes, out-assholing himself
Oh do you guys call cash registers "tills" in America? I thought that was a British/Australian thing
Please let him blow up
Please let him blow up
Oh wait does Carlos have more than 30 seconds in this episode? WHAT'S GOING ON?
Damn he didn't blow up
Uh oh TK's come home to Lisa Edelstein moving out
RELAPSE?
Wait was she just gonna fucking LEAVE? WITHOUT TELLING HIM?
Oh TK you dumb fuck
God he can't act, he is such a bad actor
Everything is in a fucking monotone
It's a complicated question? Bitch you're pregnant with someone else's baby and you're also in love with that someone else
Oh shiiit TK you're so dumb
She came down to Texas, fucked Rob Lowe's brains out, rushed back into everything and now she's pregnant and fucking back off to New York – smooth move
Who is this mysterious Enzo? I would like to meet him
Ronen can't act. I know I keep saying it but he's like a robot.
Wow Carlos has been in SO MANY SCENES WHAT IS HAPPENING
Is his dad a cop? Did I know this?
I can't remember the name of the guy who plays Carlos but here's what I'm going to say – dude is about a million times better at acting than Ronen Rubenstein. There is actual EMOTION IN HIS VOICE AND ON HIS FACE
Is his dad a lawyer? What's the deal here?
I feel like this is a conflict? Should the dad be investigating the son? Oh he's a Texas RANGER
I still feel like it's a conflict, ngl
I'm bored
Dude's dad doesn't believe him and he's gonna be proven wrong isn't he
Wow this dad is almost worse than Owen, he has no faith in Carlos whatsoever
What a dick
Hey maybe you two should've just FUCKING TOLD YOUR SON THAT YOU WEREN'T GETTING BACK TOGETHER AND THAT IT WASN'T OWEN'S BABY, THE DUDE IS IN RECOVERY
And the lack of concern from Rob Lowe about his ONLY SON IS FUCKING STUNNING
Okay so my theory is that Rob Lowe allowed Carlos to have lines in this episode of the show provided that he was the one in the scene with him
Look at Owen actually trying to do the right thing here and not be selfish for once, amazing, we love to see it
What is with everyone in this show having terrible fathers
I'm bored AGAIN
"there should be a heart behind that shield" god give me a fucking break, you're nicer to Carlos than you are to your own son you dick
No masks anywhere at the scene, no masks on anyone at the fire
It's like they remembered about the pandemic for the scene at the bank and then forgot about it again for the rest of the show
Ooh is there going to be an EXPLOSION?
What is with me and things blowing up – look I watch this show with the understanding that bonkers things are going to happen and I'm a simple person who likes when things go boom, what can I say?
BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOMMMMM
Good explosion
Oh now daddy dearest knows that Carlos wasn't lying and he didn't fuck up
I bet he feels like a right fuckhead
I disagree with the assessment that this was better than 4x08 of the OG, at least the OG has people who can act – at the very fucking least
And no Rob Lowe
Oooh Carlos' dad is as cold as fucking ICE
Yeah Carlos you stand up for yourself, you're getting lines in this episode and I'm so happy for you
TK is such a whiny little bitch
His voice just grates on me, god he fucking sucks so much
OOOOH IT'S A TRAP
THEY'VE BEEN ENSNARED IN A SCHEME
That dude don't look so hot
God damn Nancy with the sick burns (her name is Nancy right?)
Oh TK leaving a CLUE what a smart little cookie, someone's been reading his Nancy Drew books hasn't he? (is that reference too old?)
"In American" BITCH
"we're not surgeons, we're paramedics" – he SAYS EVERYTHING IN A MONOTONE, there is no emotion in his voice AT ALL
Oh no Carlos is waiting for his man
Wait is Carlos going to save the day?!
No I bet Owen does, I will not get my hopes up
They're gonna perform surgery in a restaurant? I mean I suppose Hen and Chim could do it but I don't know about this bunch
Oh shit TK just knocked the FUCK OUT
It's about TIME
You know, if he actually relapsed because of these two assholes, they would totally fucking deserve it
Rob Lowe does not seem worried literally AT ALL
His son is missing and he's just like, okay cool
Oh wait he was playing it cool – okay fine, I retract my previous mean statement
I love that TK is just knocked the fuck out while the women do the work
Can I marry Gina Torres or is she already married or… what's the go there? Would she want an Australian wife with two cats?
These two dumb bank robbers really think this dude is going to live?
DO NOT STRANGLE GINA TORRES YOU MOTHER FUCKER
Oh shit the one nearly dead bank robber killed the other one
Carlos is going to find TK's special little clue and HE DID
What a good boyfriend
Good thing Rob Lowe has Carlos here, we can see who the brains are
Carlos is just out here solving mysteries, maybe HE'S the one who's been reading Nancy Drew (does anyone read Nancy Drew anymore?)
Ooh Carlos with the trusting of the gut YOU GO GIRL, go GET YO MAN
Though real talk you could do better
I mean ngl if this was Eddie storming in to rescue Buck I would be ALL OVER THIS, this shit is MY JAM but it's TK and Carlos so who fucking cares
OH SHIT HERE COMES GINA TORRES HERE WE FUCKING GO
OH YES NANCY
YES THE LADIES ARE SAVING THE FUCKING DAY
WAIT
ROB LOWE FIRED THE SHOT???? WHAT THE FUCK WHAT THE ACTUAL FUCK
ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME?
HE IS A FIRE CAPTAIN
WHERE DID HE GET A GUN FROM?
I think Carlos' dad is flirting with Rob Lowe
Look at him standing up for Carlos
Oh and NOW the dad is being nice, okay
How the turn tables
This Strand family drama is the most boring fucking shit ever, I legit don't care
OH GOD
WHY ARE JUDD AND GRACE DRIVING IN THE RAIN
NO
NO
WHEN DID IT START RAINING LIKE THIS?
SHE WANTS BABIES JUDD
THEY'RE GONNA HAVE A BABY
NOOOOOOOOOOO
FOR FUCKING SERIOUS IS THIS SHOW FUCKING SERIOUS DO NOT BREAK MY HEART
Look obviously they’re going to be all right because they already killed Zombie Tim this season, but still. Not Judd and Grace, the two best characters on the show!
Tumblr media
Okay, this episode was marginally better than other episodes but it still sucked, so I’m giving it... 4 out of ten. Honestly, it does lose points because Rob Lowe is the one who shot the dude? Like actually wtf?
BUT it must be in Rob Lowe’s contract that nobody gets to do anything cool in this show but him so it does make sense.
Really not gonna miss Lone Star the next few weeks, see you after the hiatus for more hate watching!
And Eddie Diaz to cleanse our hearts and minds:

INTIMACY, SEX AND BUDDIE (BETTER KNOWN AS I HAVE A LOT OF FEELINGS ABOUT THIS SHOW, SOME OF WHICH ARE RELATED TO THE BEFORE MENTIONED TOPICS) - Part 3
Well, hello there (again)!

I got to say, this was both my favourite and least favourite part to write because by now all my theories are (hopefully) explained enough that I can just ramble about the characters and connections and ya’ll will forgive me if I stray away from what’s actually happening in this episode. Which I will do. A lot actually.
On the other hand side I have so many thoughts about what’s happening and this is gonna be long af as I started writing on part three at the same time as I wrote part 1 and 2 and I barely found things to cut, which means we are clocking in at a casual 7700 words. So maybe get that drink now, cause it’ll be a ride!
Also the links to part one and part two
And look, by now you probably know the drill but I’m just gonna give you my preface again:
This meta was supposed to be a lot shorter and only talk about how both Buck and Eddie use sex to distract their respective partners from whatever topic they actually wanted to talk about but since I decided to rewatch the show to make sure I dont miss any such scenes, it has exploded a bit and taken on more topics
I should also mention that I am a Buddie shipper and while I tried, you will find several references and arguments for the ship in this Meta, not all of which necessarily call for a romantic pairing but just: These two are deeply connected and you cannot look at one without discussing the other and they are each other’s strongest emotional connection.
I should also preface this by saying that the whole of the 118 has some obvious intimacy / commitment issues except Bobby (which is sort of surprising) but *John Mulaney voice* we don’t have time to unpack all of that!
On another note I cuss a little in this Meta because my parents let me listen to TicTacToe as a small child and after that it never stuck that cussing is wrong so, uhm, parental supervision is advised or something
This Meta will so far have FOUR parts now. The original plan was to do three, one for each Season and is organised by episode so you could technically follow along, but due to personal reasons, also known as *feelings*, Season 3 has already exploded disproportionately and for readability reasons I have split it in two (this is part three, the cut will happen after Christmas, it works storyline-wise)
And now, for our next instalment of I read too much into things: Season 3A (also called: „Eddie Diaz, stop being such a boy scout (Wait, no, not like that!)“)
Episode 3.01:
911 as a show has a fairly interesting way of storytelling where it sometimes feels a little like they cut together snapshots of lives in regards to certain topics. And because of that you only ever see a small part of the lives of the characters. That being said: I hate hate hate how 5 months passed between the Season 2 final and the first episode of Season 3 and aside from a few offhand remarks we get virtually nothing. Also it’s very unrealistic that Bobby and Athena didn’t have any parties for 5 months, like nope, I don’t believe you show!
That being said, I appreciate how much time it took Buck to heal because it’s realistic! And also most importantly gets Oliver Stark a chance to truly shine!
I wanna take this chance real quick, to thank the producers and writer both for writing Evan Buckley the way they write him and for casting Oliver Stark to play him because omg, it works so well! Look, Oliver Stark is attractive. He is buff and handsome, but he is not perfect. He is Tinder-buff, not MCU-I haven’t seen a drop of water in a month-buff, he’s the kind of fit that will fill the whole screen one minute and make you say „Wait, I thought he was wider than this!“ the next (you know how everyone always talks about the hips to shoulder ration of Chris Evans? Yeah, the opposite of that) . And he has a really pretty face but his nose is a little too cocked and he has scars and there’s the „adorable facemark“ and he seems so damn dorky which is exactly why Evan „Buck“ Buckley works, why he is hot. And he gets to be emotional and sensitive and caring on top of that and yeah, I don’t know if I wanna be him or date him anymore either. Like he singlehandedly made me rethink my view on dating, just because I am hoping for someone like him.
Anyways, that’s probably something none of you wanted to read about in a META so we’ll get to the juicy stuff now, alright?
One thing that I realised as I watched season 3 for the third time just now is how often it repeats itself. It feels a bit stagnant at times, the way the characters make two steps forward and one step back all the time, most notably in Bobby.
I wanna talk about Bobby for once because you can not look at Buck in Season 3 without looking at Bobby as well. These two characters are connected the same way Buck is connected to Eddie. Most things Buck does character wise in Season 3 are caused by Bobby’s actions, in the same way most of Eddie’s are caused by Buck.
And the thing that 3.01 tells us from the get go? Bobby thinks of Buck as somewhat of a son (which we knew already) and Bobby sees himself in Buck, which is why he does what he probably hoped someone would have done for him the 10 or something years ago when he hurt is back and holds him back. There is also the fact that he tries to teach Buck to have a life outside the firehouse, though that is something he probably should at some point in the near future actually voice to Buck, because Buck on his own can not draw these conclusions from Bobby’s actions. Buck on his own thinks it’s about him not being good enough and so he works himself to the bone to try and proof otherwise. (Someone please just finally tell him what a good boy he is? Yeah?)
As for the scene during the party, you could actually see how much Buck had to force himself to be that open and that vulnerable with Bobby (and not just because he is *literally* having an embolism) and that hurts because to this day Buck has not realised that Bobby will always be there to catch him. Buck still thinks he needs to proof himself to Bobby because of his firing in Season 1. And would you believe I actually cried a little typing these words?
And now I’m gonna talk about my agenda, also known as Buddie real quick, and point you toward the fact that while we have seen Eddie be vulnerable with Buck and Buck be vulnerable with everyone else we have not seen Buck be audibly vulnerable with Eddie and I do not think this is a coincident at all.
Look, Eddie is a guarded guy, right? He has a hard time being vulnerable, a hard time asking for help, a hard time giving up control. But he does all these things with Buck and he does them willingly and with barely an outside push, which is different to say with Bobby. Eddie let’s himself fall with Buck and by doing so raises Buck’s self worth and gives him the feeling of being in control Buck craves so much (while Eddie sort of despises it because he feels like he always has to be the one in control), but it also means that Buck is afraid to let himself fall with Eddie because it might mean Eddie won’t trust him again. Buck generally is a very emotional guy and he doesn’t seem afraid to voice his weaknesses, in fact he is probably too aware of them and too willing to let others poke at them, except with Eddie. With Eddie Buck always tries for strong, because he knows Eddie needs him to be and because he thinks, if he’s not, Eddie will see what everyone else saw and leave him. On Eddie’s side I do think by now he is more than willing to catch Buck and still let himself be caught in return. At least at this point.
(also, if we do ever get Buddie I could see a reverse of the Shannon-Eddie situation happening where Eddie is the one being open and Buck has a hard time being emotionally vulnerable, afraid it’ll scare Eddie off and he’ll leave like everyone else.)
But then, one could also point out that Eddie probably knows all the things going on with Buck anyways because I truly think they know each other inside out and are two feathers of the same bird and same recognises same and all that - it’s just that Buck is someone who needs to actually voice his feelings to deal with them, so unless he voices his vulnerabilities to Eddie, for him, the other guy doesn’t know them. (Except Eddie does know.) (and man, I wish the rest of the 911 would finally figure out that with Buck you always - always - have to say things! You can’t just imply. You can’t think your actions speak loud enough. You need to actually use your words and do so in a way that leaves no doubt because that boy thinks so little of himself and he will make himself doubt every nice thing that ever happens to him.)
Now, moving back to what’s actually happening in the episode and why all of this is important:
We have the very important talk in the Station were text points out some of the things I just said and Eddie realises that he needs to do better, so he pulls a Buck and steamrolls him. (also do we truly believe that Carla was out of the country? Do we? Do we not think Eddie spent the whole ride over coaching his son on lying to his best friend because Eddie is just like that?)
Also I love how before this Maddie is talking to Josh and she says something along the lines of wether she should push Buck or coddle him and it cuts to Eddie trying the first.
On Eddie’s side of this meta we somewhat learn where Eddie’s issues stem from and it’s of course Daddy issues because this show loves them very much. (Seriously, out of 5 firefighters 3 have confirmed absent fathers causing issues and one has it heavily implied. Tim Minear, do you wanna talk?)
Also, Ramon Diaz probably threw in a „real men don’t cry“ with his macho speech about just brushing shit off and thereby emotionally crippling his child further, because he seems cliche like that.
Sidenote: The Buck and Christopher relationship is so beautiful and important and „Some cool outfits, too.“ is one of my favourite lines, though I do have to say - as someone who works professionally with kids - that this is what really shows how much Eddie truly thinks of Buck and how much he trusts him because it’s safe to assume that Buck has never been alone with Christopher or any child for longer and has never had to take care of one by himself and yet Eddie just trusts him to take care of his son for what is probably a 24h shift. Truly magnificent. An unparalleled relationship. So meaningful.
Episode 3.02:
No actual relevance but I do wanna point out that the thing about the mom being the love of boat guys life but her son being her’s? Yeah, that’s Eddie (and Buck).
Also, Buck’s just a natural at being a dad (not because of the fun stuff but the stuff when he knew exactly how to distract Christopher when those bodies floated by) and at some point I need Eddie to point this out to him and I need him to voice his jealousy about it, because Eddie? Not a natural dad.
(I actually think that is something that is true about a lot of things for these two. I mean yes, Buck is a hard worker but I think only in areas he is already naturally gifted (remember that whole thing with the Seals? “You just have to be badass, which I am?”) and he generally doesn’t try if things don’t come naturally because Buck hates failure because Buck already feels like a failure. Meanwhile Eddie seems like the kind of guy who has this huge capacity for learning, so even if something doesn’t come naturally to him (like fatherhood) he has the determination and willingness to try and try again until he finally gets it right and is perfect because Eddie, too, hates failure.) (And now I wanna see more about their childhoods because I could actually see Buck be somewhat of a gifted child in his youth who never learned how to actually apply himself and because of that has always been told he had so much wasted potential while Eddie was either an overarchiver or a slacker, I’m sorry I don’t make the rules. Or maybe I am projecting.)
Episode 3.03:
I read somewhere on tumblr that Ryan Guzman and his wife thought Eddie and Lena would be a thing and where actually on board and I was like? No?
I mean I do love the way she takes one look at him and decides he needs his ego checked (and also Eddie is like: ui, me like-y! (maybe because he misses another person that used to be an asshole to him right off the bat?)).
Also love all the references to Eddie being in the army („The 118 is huffing it“-scene comes to mind). Again, kudos to Ryan Guzman for always acting with all his body, because you can always feel the army training in his posture like the way he usually stands just a little bit straighter than everyone else (well, at least that’s what it looks like to me, someone who has not been in the Army and knows only like two people that got drafted and no one who went willingly, because my country generally doesn’t do that these days ).
As for what is happening in the episode, I think it’s a reference to Shannon that Eddie dealt with that couple that, despite loving each other a lot and getting along fairly well, decided to get divorced. Which is what 911 should have done with Shannon. (Me being salty about Shannon? It’s more likely than you think.)
I also think it’s a nice parallel the way both Lena and Buck are so desperate to search for their missing loved one with no regard for their own safety and I’m assuming Eddie saw Buck in Lena’s actions as well, which is why he trusts her so fast. (Because Eddie just like Buck is looking for connection and intimacy but Eddie is even worse at creating it than Buck, so he just tries to recreate the one working bond he truly has.) (Something actually proven in text by Eddie: becoming a firefighter because he misses the army.)
And I know everyone and their mother has already pointed out how Eddie was not worried about Chris at all because his son was with Buck and he knows Buck would never let anything bad happen to his son ever.
Which is why *that* scene is even more heartbreaking, because Eddie has so much trust in his Buck and kudos to Ryan Guzman because man, the way you see Eddie steel himself for what Buck is saying? The way you can feel him pulling himself together because Buck needs him to hear this. (Look, the scene is about a father learning from the person he trusts most in the world that his son might be dead and they could have easily forshadowed Eddie’s fighting ark by having him react negatively and violently here but instead he stays calm because it’s Buck and Buck for once needs him to be the one in control - also, on a less ship-y note because Eddie’s world is falling apart right there and he needs to keep in control because if he doesn’t, he will probably never be again.)
Which brings us to that scene in the loft, and listen, I know I said at the end of part 2 Eddie barely had any character development in the two seasons since we met him, but uhm, this scene? Proves he had some development, because right then right there he is so fucking vulnerable with Buck. It is of course part of him being a protector because just like with Shannon in 2.04 he realises that this is was Buck needs him to be right now, so vulnerable it is.
I do think however that it’s beautiful how Eddie apparently took the time during a fucking natural disaster to figure out that Evan Buckley needs him to use his actual words, so use his actual words he does.
And I do wanna point out that this is something he never had with Shannon, Eddie was never able to figure out what is wife of what? 7-8 years needed of him but he does know what his best friends needs. And wether that is just Buddie or just plain old character development, remains to be seen.
(Though we should mention that it wasn’t a permanent thing, Eddie does fail Buck a few times in Season 3 (but he also doesn’t a few other times) but we’ll get to that when we get to that!)
Also, honourable mention to Maddie Buckley-Kendall for getting that phone call and probably nearly dying of a heart attack and then having to race to the VA thinking the worst and probably imagining her very selfless brother either being already gone by the time she gets there or close to dead - only to probably arrive there and see Christopher in a bed with Eddie sitting next to him and Buck sitting vigil a few feet away because he doesn’t think he deserves to be with the Diaz’s anymore but he also can’t bear to part from them!
And another mention to the poor stranger who probably never got their phone back.
Also a teeny bit mad they forgot to give Oliver scars on his legs.
Episode 3.04
First of all I gotta say Eddie is such a boy scout goody two shoes with his whole „Well, it’s mandated!“ (also he’s been probably hanging out with Buck a buncha times in whatever many weeks passed since the Tsunami and  therefore knew how hard his best friend worked on this and he’s gonna be supportive, kay?)
That being said, remember when I talked about two steps forward, one step back? Yeah, that.
As for the lawsuit, look, we could argue all day on wether it was justified or not, but I personally do think Buck had a basis. But he was also acting rash and hadn’t thought all the implications through and should have used his words instead, but quick reminder: Buck has severe abandonment issues and he has problems with emotional intimacy - so the whole talking about it? Not that easy.
Also, imagine working for months to come back to work, the one thing you think you’re good at and thinking you have everyone’s support only to find out the person you love like a father has betrayed you, probably with the knowledge of everyone else. Yeah, you’d lash out too!
Even though, I have to point out it’s not his normal MO (which is why we see him regret it almost immediately in the next episode).
As for Eddie in this episode, he has not one, not two, not three, but four whole conversations about feelings! You go buddy-boy. Embrace that character development! Don’t take a step back! … or, nevermind, we all know what happens next.
That being said I think it’s interesting that while Chimney clearly confides in him, Eddie does not confide in him in return but rather talks to female!Buck. I mean, talking about his struggles with his son and his family worked with him and Buck so why not with him and Lena (cause Lena isn’t Buck).
I do think Eddie and Chimney are close, but Eddie just doesn’t feel the same connection to him as he feels to Buck.
As for Eddie being so beautifully open and vulnerable with his son and saying like the exact opposite of what he had been taught: Eddie loves his son. He loves his son more than anything in the world. And if Eddie can’t let himself be vulnerable with him, who can he be vulnerable with? Especially when it helps Christopher.
(Also, Eddie by now recognises what is wrong with him, he just doesn’t think he can change it but he can prevent it from happening to his child.)
Episode 3.05:
This episode has a lot of shit happening and I have a lot of thoughts, most of which are relevant to the episode. But we’re gonna start slow, ease you in:
Boy do I love overprotective Dad!Eddie! How long do you think did it took Carla and Christopher to convince Eddie to let Chris sleep over at his friends? A month?
In other news Buck is just the picture of regret during the deposition and yeah, he should be. The whole thing is harsh. Never sue your friends, no matter how justified, if you want them to stay your friends! But it’s so obvious Buck didn’t know it was gonna go down this way because he did not think this through at all.
First off: Remember how in part 2 I said Buck and Eddie’s storylines were connected and how earlier I said Buck was the catalyst for Eddie like Bobby was for Buck?
Yeah, that’s the episode for all of this.
It’s not as obvious as in Season 2 because usually it happens over two episodes but it’s no coincident that after last episode Bobby triggered that shift in Buck, Eddie is now suddenly careering out of control as well - it’s because Buck is his catalyst, his *trigger*.
Please watch 3.04 and 3.05 back to back and tell me Eddie doesn’t make a 180 between those episodes. He goes from worried about his son to punching people in parking lots. What changed? Well, he could no longer talk to Buck. And Buck is his anker and his catalyst, the one person he doesn’t have to be in control with (which he really could use considering what he is going through with Christopher). And when you take that away he spirals. (Also there is the deposition where his best friend betrays him by talking about his dead for less than a year - wife, a topic Eddie has been avoiding in regards to his feelings since … well, the day it happened, probably.)
And I’m not saying the whole street fighting thing wouldn’t have happened if Eddie wasn’t such a boy scout and said, screw the chain of command and just called Buck to bail him out, but that’s what I’m implieing.
Also the scene between Eddie and Lena, I mean, I’ve already talked about it somewhere else but I do wanna point you to the way it is phrased: Eddie „wasn’t allowed“ to call Buck. Meaning he wanted to. But you know: Boy Scout.
Now, let’s talk about the grocery store fight because I have so many thoughts!
And what I love about these two episodes, as well as the next one, is that they show both the connection Buddie has as well as the contrasts between them:
One of the biggest differences in Buddie is how they deal with fear and obstacles and it is visible throughout all their lives and specifically these three episodes.
Evan Buckley is a force of nature, he is a fighter, he sets a goal and he reaches this goal with a single minded focus, steamrolling through everything in his way until he reaches said goal. Just look at the lawsuit and remember how his original plan was to get everyone to sign a letter of support for him.
When something frightens him, Buck doesn’t run away he runs right into it, tries to destroy it or be destroyed. He fights. And if that doesn’t work, he finds a way around the problem, but always going head to head with the thing because Evan Buckley is very determined and very self destructive.
Just look at the way he held onto Abby for nearly a year after she had left: Instead of dealing with his feelings of abandonment and the fact that the woman he loved left him, that boy dug his heel in and fought tooth and nail to keep what little he had left of her, of them. Refused to acknowledge being left for months. And when he finally leaves he literally compares himself to a ghost, because you know, he is just an empty shell at this point.
It’s also why he falls so hard for Ali because he is just desperately looking for something to cling to and so he transfers all those un-dealt feelings onto her and then he get’s hurt and his problems become bigger and different and Ali can’t deal - not surprising considering they had barely a foundation. They just went from 0 to 100 in 2 seconds and that just never works out, unless you’re in a very expensive sports car.
I also truly think at times Buck hides behind the loud mouthed, dumb adrenaline junkie persona he got going on as it keeps people from looking deeper, because Buck is very scared they won‘t find anything deeper - or worse, decide they don’t like what they see (and hey, he even got that confirmed by Ali leaving! and Abby! AND MOST IMPORTANTLY MADDIE!).
(Which, to push an agenda real quick, is why I ship Buddie so hard? Because they do have a foundation, they have been emotionally intimate with each other, they’ve seen the worst of each other and still went: I’m gonna have your back. And they have pulled a lot of shit on each other in the two years since meeting! Like, I’m sorry 911, I love you, but please never try and tell me they will have a deeper connection with anyone but each other because it’ll be a damn lie and you know it! If you don’t wanna do Buddie, let those boys get emotionally healthy and THEN give them an endgame but don’t try and replace Buddie with Loveinterests. I’m serious. I might stop watching!)
Eddie meanwhile is much more open with his feelings in the sense that he is less open in general so it’s far more noticeable when something is bothering him *because* he is subtle about it. Because Buck is so loud and so open and all about what you see is what you get, you don‘t assume he is hiding anything because you already see everything, right? (Always hide the real shit in plain sight, you guys, that‘s where no one remembers to look!) But Eddie, Eddie keeps his cards close. Sure he is funny and nice but he is also fucking reserved! And when something bothers him he draws into himself even more and that’s something that shows, that people will take notice of.
Eddies reaction to bad things (also known as *feelings*, because that boy is fucking repressed) happening is running away. And I am not saying he is a coward, I am saying he probably thinks he is and I am saying he runs away from his problems - that’s what 3.15 was about for Eddie: embracing his family (his vulnerabilities) and from what I‘ve seen in the last few days floating around in spoiler *now* Eddie has to learn to face his problems and not run away.
Which will be hard because Eddie deflects a lot.
It‘s funny (in a way that is not funny) that Buck, the fighter, is like the least aggressive guy around while Eddie, Mr quiet and reserved, who is all about running away from his problems, is so physically aggressive - except it is not and makes a lot of sense.
Season 3 truly shows how they deal with problems and I love it, I love them and this show so much!
Because Buck deals with the bombing by working tirelessly to come back to work, he deals with losing Christopher by nearly killing himself trying to find him and he deals with his fear of being replaced by filing the lawsuit to get his job back - which is also why I have to agree with Eddie: Buck truly has a one track mind. He sees the problem and nothing else. That makes him an amazing firefighter but an exhausting guy to be around because he does not give up.
I think in canon we only ever see Buck give up twice, maybe three times once with Abby and once with Christopher, both times he nearly killed himself first. (And one could argue that neither of these times he actually gave up, he was just out of options and time.) Tbh the only actual time he gave up was with Ali and that was probably his one track mind just not having any capacity to deal with a girlfriend on top of everything.
Eddie meanwhile deals with his wife dying and his best friend nearly dying twice and his son being traumatised and his best friend not being allowed back to work and his best friend filing that lawsuit by ... not dealing with it. He just moves on. Runs away from his feelings and his pain by fighting. He can’t deal with - can’t fight - his actual feelings so he fights something else. He lashes out. Becomes feral. That’s literally the gist of this episodes voiceover!
So tbh as much as I like that they resolved that lawsuit within one episode I am a bit bummed that we hardly saw anything of the 118 and especially Eddie without Buck there (specifically during his fighting time) mainly because I think we would have seen Hen and Chimney with Cap and Eddie maybe with Lena but generally keeping his distance, hiding away from them. (I don’t think Eddie just brushing past Buck in 3.06 was just about Buck.)
I truly meant what I said about 2.01 and Eddie taking one look at Buck being an asshole and deciding this one is gonna be his friend. Because while Hen and Chimney have been nice and friendly with him from the get go, they never give him shit the same way they give each other or Cap or Buck, and Eddie needs that. He needs someone who isn’t afraid to call him out and push back, both to get Eddie out of his own head and to make him feel comfortable enough to do the same. Which is why he bonded so fast with Buck and Lena (also, would he have bonded with her like that if Buck had been there? Probably not. Eddie is like the definition of „I only have the emotional capacity to care about three people at a time and two of them are my son“), because both held him accountable for his shit, which no one else on the show does, specifically not Hen and Chimney who treat Eddie as the guy who is good at most things so they just overlook the shitty stuff. And Cap does the same, because Eddie has a lot on his plate and Cap understands his issues better than anyone else’s.
Ya‘ll just need to watch the supermarket scene! It‘s all there!
Buck is in the store trying to create a moment so he can talk to all of them (meaning he is pushing, leaning into the problem until it gives), tries to make the problem go away by apologising (remember what I said about trying another way? Working hard didn’t work. Accepting his predicament didn‘t work. The lawsuit didn’t work. So now he tries talking it out - which he should have done to begin with, but hey, I’m not his therapist (sadly)) (It’s too bad it only worked to a certain level as we saw in the next episode but oh well, that’s actually realistic.)
Meanwhile Eddie has none of it because Eddie is currently running away from his problems so he can’t have his problem stand in front of him buying cat laxatives. So Eddie goes feral, and makes it all about Buck and his mistakes and then throws Christopher under the bus because that man is fighting for his life and he has nothing left to loose!!! I truly love this scene so much, you guys. It’s so revealing about these characters.
(I also shouldn’t have to point out that most of the stuff Eddie said to Buck was about Shannon, right? He was saying the things he was feeling about Shannon and he was throwing them at Buck because Buck was the one who brought it up, but also … look, it’s just ship-y from here all right?)
As for what I said about Hen, Bobby and Chimney in regards to Eddie? I know Chimney made some remarks but come on! Had it been any of them or Buck who yelled at someone like that they would have all interrupted and tried to diffuse the situation. But because it’s Eddie they sort of let it happen. (Also tbh because it’s Eddie and Buck and everyone is a little mad at Buck but they are something different to each other.)
Also, not to push my agenda, can we just talk about how comfortable  Eddie has to be with the 118 but especially Buck, how much he has to care, to scream at him like that? Because he is reserved and he always tries to let go of his feelings and he hides so much. And I know part of it is that Eddie is coiled too tight already and about to burst but it’s also about Buck and the fact that Eddie expected better from him because Eddie has such a high opinion of him. Like sure he gives him shit sometimes but I think it’s because Eddie always expects the most of Buck (and Buck rarely lets him down). (And now I did go all ship-y)
Just compare this with his relationship with Shannon: with Shannon Eddie always is the one to make decisions, in part because he believes that’s what a man should do but also in part because he doesn’t trust her - and that was even before she left. Eddie trusts no one but himself for the most part but he does trust Buck, because to Eddie Buck can hardly do wrong. Which is why the whole law suit probably hit him so hard cause he expects everyone to let him down all the time but Evan Buckley? The guy he trust with his son more than anyone else? That guy? He expected better off! And that my friends is beautiful.
As for the voiceover it does poise one very central question for Eddie’s character: If he gives up control, will he be able to regain it? Because that is Eddie’s biggest fear and why he always holds everything so tight: he thinks if he lets the floodgates open once, he’ll never be able to close them.
In other news: Ryan took his shirt off.
Episode 3.06:
Before I write another 2400 words about our boys, I wanna remind you of that scene of Bobby, Chimney and Eddie wearing sun glasses, with Hen wearing her normal glasses, standing round, looking like an album cover! *plays „Clique“ by Kanye West, Jay-Z, Big Sean*
Do you think Athena and Hen talked about Bobby and how he would / does handle Buck? They did, didn’t they?
Also love how Hen and Chimney are super welcoming because one, they know what it’s like to be the odd one out and two, they love Buck and actually see his point of view. I believe. Now if only someone would remember to tell him.
Like, come on, they probably sit in the ambulance gossiping all the time!
I really love that we saw some bonding between Buck and Hen and Buck and Chimney in this episode because as much as I love Buddie we do not see enough of those combos (we don’t see enough of Buddie either).
Also the whole two steps forward, one step back? That is Bobby in this episode.
Now, we have to talk about the apology scene because this is Buck, expressing himself, being vulnerable. I love this episode a lot especially in regards to this Meta because here we see all the things I explained for the last episode: Buck is expressing, trying his best to make the problem go away while Eddie avoids it.
Also, you know, there is the whole illegal fighting thing that is visible on Eddie and look, if you did something like that would you willingly spent time with the one person who will call you out on it or will you avoid him like the plague? Especially if the last time you saw him you were screaming bloody murder at him in the middle of a grocery store! And the next time you see him he calls you out for your bruising. Yeah, guys, that’s just realistic.
Also bit of a reach, but the reason this is part of my discussion of 3.06 and not 3.05, which is Eddie’s relationship to Buck. Remember how 3.03 ended? That beautiful moment that made Oliver Stark cry on Instagram live? Remember how Eddie said „It’s his turn to save you now.“? Yeah, what happened to that?
Okay, Eddie is not an expressive guy. He is bad with feelings. He hates having them. And here comes Evan „Buck“ Buckley and he is just the polar opposite. Sure, he’d rather not talk about his feelings either but he has a lot of them and he *likes* having all of them and he wallows in them and that is probably a lot for a guy like Eddie to deal with. Especially when I do think Eddie understands somewhat where Buck came from and he probably feels guilty af about making Buck feel like he was being replaced. About not seeing the pain Buck was in. About not being there for him - which is why he lashes out, because guilt can make the healthiest people do horrible shit and Eddie is far from any definition of healthy at that point.
But I do have to say I am reaching with this and if I ever meet Tim Minear I will have him explain the fight scene and the apology scene to me word for word because it has to be deeper, right?
It can’t just be Eddie lashing out, and saying exactly the things he knows will hurt Buck because he is mad mad mad? Yeah, I know, whatever.
(Because even if that is the case? This is still the scene where a guy uses his best friend as a substitute to get his anger for his dead wife out in a somewhat healthy manner.)
Which is why I love both these scenes immensely, because it shows exactly how differently Eddie and Buck deal with things, because Eddie avoids them or gets mad and screams at them while Buck, actually does something fairly healthy and try to talk it out - but like only as his last option. He tries anything but talking before that, except with Eddie because they are connected and he finally *finally* lets himself be emotionally vulnerable with Eddie.
Which is also why the apology scene is so important to me, despite thinking while a bit rash, Buck wasn’t exactly wrong in his actions. I would have hated if they just brushed the grocery store over or made it about Eddie and the issues he had at the time. Instead they gave us this beautiful scene where Buck finally - FINALLY - gets to explain himself to someone, especially Eddie, the guy who he hurt the most because Buck is his anchor, and Eddie actually listens and then he gets it and he is like, oh, I wasn’t wrong! He really deserves all my trust!
So you know, that’s just beautiful, wether it’s platonic or romantic.
Episode 3.07: no relevance
Episode 3.08:
I wanna say something right of the bat that is probably controversial as hell:
Eddie did not want to share with Bobby. Eddie likes Bobby, he trusts Bobby, but he wasn’t really feeling like sharing with Bobby.
The reason Eddie talked with Bobby about all of this? Well, first of all it was bound to happen, sometimes things need to be said and then it doesn’t really matter who you’re talking to.
Also Eddie? Boy Scout. Army man. Chain of Command. If your superior officer tells you to share - you share! There. I said it. (This is not a Bobby Nash - stan account)
Also: „A friend of mine told me I needed an outlet - think I found it.“ - no, you didn’t Buddy boy, it’s why I’m currently 10.000 words into an episode by episode analysis of your character! (can you tell I am slowly going off the rails with this?)
But I do love how we finally got to see sassy!Eddie again. I missed you, babe!
As for the kitchen scene and the look, yes, I know, Maddie was looking at them like that because she just called them out about gossiping and they turned around and gossiped, buuuut … ya’ll also realise that Chimney was apparently *not* aware that anything was wrong with Eddie when Eddie had been acting weird way longer then Hen. He nearly punched Buck in a grocery store, he comes in with new bruises like 3 times a week but sure mate, he is all normal! (Or you know, Buck is just hyperfocused on Eddie)
One thing that freaks me out every time I watch this episode is how completely fucking nonchalant Eddie seems by the fact that he nearly fucking killed a guy. To quote Lena Bosko, professional plot pusher: „What the hell, Eddie?“
And then of course 3.15 happened and we saw Eddie shoot multiple people, so he probably learned how to compartmentalise and I guess I need to remember this is a TV show and no one actually died. But wow, I really need this addressed more because I have such mixed feelings about this.
And with regards to this I wanna say something even more controversial: Eddie got off easy. Yes, the guy willingly went into that ring but Eddie nearly killed him and all Bobby wanted to talk about was why Eddie was fighting? Again: What the hell?
Another thing this episode firmly proofs is that Lena is really just a poor substitute for Buck because Eddie doesn’t actually know anything about her, he just uses her as a sounding board because, well, Buck wasn’t there and he was lonely?
As for the actual conversation happening, yes, there we have it, in plain sight, Eddie needs to be in control because he thinks this is what Christopher needs him to be and as I’ve said before Eddie will always do anything for Christopher, even if he hurts himself in the process.
Also, remember when Lena told him he needed to show and tell his son how he felt so Christopher knows it’s okay to feel that way as well? Clearly didn’t stick of he would not feel this intense need to be in control. Which is realistic, you don’t just unlearn behaviour you had for like 30 years just because someone gives you some good advice once! (Man, my life could be so different!)
I’m also not a fan of Bobby’s „She died.“ because while yes, it wasn’t her fault that she left this time, grief isn’t rational. And even without the looming divorce Eddie has every right to be upset and to be angry at the world, and yes, even his dead wife. She’s dead. It doesn’t hurt her anymore. (Although that would be one feeling he should probably keep from Christopher.)
Not to mention Eddie feels guilty as hell. His anger? Mostly at himself. The sentence “I broke his mother”? Broke me as well.
But I also understand Eddie because while he may be grieving, his son is clearly traumatised by the whole situation, as seen in 3.04, and Eddie is trying his best and look, his outlet wasn’t the healthiest but um, at least he realised he needed one? He addressed that? That’s growth (sorta).
Amount of shirtless!Eddie scenes: 2, which feels a bit like overkill for one episode (pace yourself, Tim, this isn’t Game of Thrones)
Episode 3.09:
Frank! My main man Frank! Ui, I love him! When Tim calls me to come consult for Season 4 because clearly by now I am an expert on his characters and the way they should act, I will tell him to bring Frank back. I miss Frank. I hope he’s doing okay. He deserves the world. Also really wanna meet Rosemary.
And hey, as someone who has worked in the mental health sector and probably will again come October (if I manage to finish my degree by then, urgh, Corona, you are destroying my thesis!), I love that scene on the sofa so much! All of them openly sharing that they have been in therapy and talking about their therapists and just, uh, that scene makes me all tingly!
Before we get into all the emotional things I’m just gonna add the scene on the sofa to my list of scene I don’t fully understand. Like, what emotion exactly was Eddie supposed to be conveying because to me he sounds angry. And why should Eddie be angry about Buck sleeping with his therapist? What reason could he have?
Okay, yeah, maybe it’s a little exasperation and annoyance because apparently Evan Buckley is just coasting through life and doesn’t even take therapy seriously. Idk. I haven’t read the script.
But it does lead us to Buck giving Eddie shit, because, as I’ve said before, that’s what Buck does.
As for the therapy scene, yay, there is a mention of the nearly dead guy! Who is not dead. Yay!
I do love Eddie’s reasons for going to therapy and really trying, even though he is not clicking with Frank. He is such a good dad! (Also I’ve been debating for like 20 minutes whether Eddie would be more comfortable sharing with a woman or with a man and for some reason (his connection with Buck vs his relationship with Shannon) I think he’d be more comfortable with a man. Idk. I could be wrong. - Also Eddie is probably always uncomfortable talking about his feelings, so there is that!) His reasoning shows also yet again what I said about both Buck and Eddie before: they are protectors. They will make themselves vulnerable to help someone else. It’s a thing.
Also I pulled out my pocket edition of ICD-10 to check and while we don’t have enough information to give a full diagnosis, it’s safe to say that he is supposed to be going through a depressive episode. Because yes, sometimes depressed people aren’t sad, sometimes they are fucking angry.
Now, as for the Evan Buckley of it all and that scene: I read another Meta by someone clearly much better at this than me that stated Eddie uses Sarcasm as a way to deflect, which is exactly what is happening here because Eddie is not as fine with everything that happened as he pretends to be. I think he has just come to the sudden and horrible conclusion that his tipping point has been Buck no longer being in his life and so he decided it was easier to just move on then deal with his feelings (which is what got you into this mess in the first place, Edmundo, so please rethink,) if that means Buck back in his life.
I also think Eddie deflects here because he realises how much what he did and what he said actually hurt Buck in return and Eddie doesn’t fully know how to deal with that. And look, if they actually start discussing their issues then Eddie will have to admit his guilt and Eddie will have to say he’s sorry and right then he is still too pissed to do so, so he decides to move on.
Ah, the wonderful clash of Eddie thinking actions speak louder than words but Buck needing to hear the actual words.
Sidenote: I sent the kitchen scene to my roommate, stopped before they played the video game and asked her what she thinks happened next. And to quote „Love me <3 <3 <3. Please fuck me“ - because yes, she did take one look at them and decide the one with the puppy dog eyes was a bottom. That’s also a quote.
Episode 3.10:
Eddie really is trying so hard to be a good dad, isn’t he?
I also love the little head shake Eddie gives after Chris ask Buck about spending Christmas with him, because he clearly has already talked about the whole thing with Buck. And I’m not gonna talk about the framing. Other’s have done that before and I don’t actually know that much about it in first place.
Also it is cute as all hell that Chris asked Buck in the first place and also heartbreaking.
Other than that this episode doesn’t have that much of a relevance for this meta, because if I have to start discussing Buck’s other issues as well this will never be done.
Before I let you go, I wanna say something real quick:
In the past few days there have been several posts about content creators and liking vs commenting / reblogging on my dash and I just wanna say this is true for meta writers as well! Look, I love everyone who likes this because validation, but I’m not actually writing this meta for myself, I’m writing this because I have thoughts and I wanna share them with the rest of the class and have the class discuss it with me!
So please, reblog this and comment under or in the tags or come to my ask or my messages, even if it’s only to tell me that my punctuation is shit!
Anyways, @angelcamael and @greyhello here’s part 3!

Thoughts on the stuff Tim minear tweeted about Buddie today? Do you still think Buddie has a chance of being canon
I'm surprised Tim was being so responsive in the first place honestly. I know he answers questions occasionally but I think this is the first time he's expressed annoyance with the fans? idk. Anyway, he was talking about how engaging with hostile and rude fans on Twitter is counterproductive, which is true. It's a fact every public figure (and regular person) on the internet has to learn. I think this is his (and Oliver Stark's) first time having to deal with a large active fan base online for a show. Tim's worked on a lot of stuff in the past but none have been during the time where fan engagement on Twitter was a (big) thing. And I think this is an especially unique situation for them given that a lot of the hype is surrounding a ship. Modern fan culture is very very drawn to and hyperfocused on shipping. Especially if those ships are queer relationships. So to come into this project expecting the level of fan engagement to be more along the lines of what he's used to, and then to have massive waves of people aggresively coming at him over a fictional couple who is not even a couple (yet) is probably extremely jarring. He's also in the position where he's the SHOWRUNNER, he is literally the person who has most of the final say on what happens in the show (as opposed to Oliver Stark who has no control), so when he tweets things people take his word as the ultimate law. Which is why he has to be careful about his fan engagement (and why people impersonating him can have very serious consequences).
So to very quickly recap what happened. A twitter account (I believe) changed their layout and name to be the exact same as Tim’s and was probably tweeting things as if they were him. Tim did not like the fact that someone was trying to impersonate him (rightfully) and said that he blocked and reported them (also, rightfully). They then apologized and he unblocked. He then said something (jokingly) along the lines that he wouldn’t mind if the impersonator wanted to shoulder the responsibility of receiving/answering all the questions about Buddie (and shouldering the massive amounts of hate he gets for buddie not being a current thing). And people began attacking him for that because they viewed it as him disrespecting their ship. (Why do people expect Oliver and Tim to not misinterpret their “jokes” but when they joke around fans suddenly can’t understand the tone of their jokes? Okay.) Another fan (respectfully) reached out to Tim and said that there are people who would like to respectfully engage with him about Buddie. Tim basically responded by saying he doesn’t think it’s possible to engage with hostile and aggressive fans OR respectful fans online (which makes sense given that it’s very easy to have what you say misinterpreted online) and that (typically) he chooses to ignore rather than engage (which is what most creators and actors do). He also said he doesn’t understand why people think their hostility would make him more inclined to do what they want (he’s right and he should say it just as other people have been saying for years and years (the spn fans on here are exhausted)).
I think this is what most people latched onto as “oh no he’s never gonna make Buddie happen now”. But I think these people are (once again) choosing to read only what they want to read into it. He follows it up by saying he “doesn’t want have it seem like his knee-jerk reaction to rude fans online is influencing him in the other way (ie. NOT DOING BUDDIE) either”. It’s basically the exact same argument I made in this post that in this day and age of easily accessing creatives in historically fan-removed spaces, creators are encouraged to stay away from active engagement online and have dug in more to the concept of never letting the fans influence where they best feel the story should go.
I don’t take what Tim was saying as confirmation he’s not going to go through with Buddie (in due time), because he literally just said that he’s not going to allow fan interactions (positive or negative) to influence what he and his writers choose to do with the story. And he’s not going to be interacting online anymore (once again, fair). It’s a privilege to be able to speak to someone in that far up a position of power over a narrative in the first place and the internet will never ever be a place where people will ever respect other people’s boundaries. It just won’t. This is not unique to this fandom (it’s not unique to fandoms in general) either. This internet is not and will never be a completely safe and respectful place.
So I will reiterate again. Whether Tim and the 911 writers/producers decide to make Buddie a thing or not is purely up to whether they believe it would be beneficial for the characters and the narrative they want to tell and NOT because of fans online.

I won’t wanna be a negative Nancy but what are some things you don’t like in 911? Like for me I feel like they could have handled buck’s mental health better (like he hasn’t really been affected by everything that’s happened)
Nothing wrong with finding fault in our favorite works, nothing is perfect!
That being said, I feel like I don’t have much to complain about. One thing is what you mentioned. I definitely feel like there hasn’t been enough emphasis on Buck’s mental health and how all these traumatic events he’s been through has effected him. The whole “he researches natural disasters” thing is clearly a coping mechanism, which is great and I’m glad he has something healthy to express his emotions! Like, we know why seeing a therapist might not be the best option for him. But I’d still like to see at least Maddie or Bobby (I would say Eddie, but we know how he is) ask Buck how he’s doing ya know?
The only other thing I really didn’t like was how they handled Shannon and Ali in season 2. I did not think it was necessary to kill Shannon off, like what the hell man. And Ali was just so weirdly placed in the season finale when we barely knew her? Glad she was gone by the time season 3 rolled around. Nothing against her character personally, but she just didn’t fit.
But other than that, Ryan, Tim, and Brad are doing a fantastic job with this show and I can’t thank them enough for bringing it to life!

Your blog is a breath of fresh air and I love seeing such nuanced & well-thought out comments about the show. As much I loved 911/Buddie, I stopped watching like 6 eps into s5 bc the BT + overall OOC-ness of the show became too much and didn't wanna put energy into something that was upsetting me. I only know stuff thru tumblr posts and never fully understood what happened w/ lucy and the fallout. was she planned to be a main/B's LI but ppl hated her so much they wrote her outta the show? [1/2]
[2/2] I've seen folks mention that they filmed a lot of scenes with her that got cut? I know next to nothing about her character, and was trying to find a summary of what happened in regards to her/her planned arc from the lens of buddie/tumblr fandom (not just wiki summaries), and your posts are some of the most informational and level-headed content I've seen on here, so thank you for that! <3 Hello, nonnie! First things first: I put together this post from 5x11 -> 5x15 that details AK's deleted scenes and how she was told to set up the BL dynamic. You'll see that Lucy as a love interest was never confirmed, but the show wanted the audience to keep the possibility in their minds. (Cliffs notes: "Sometimes they’re borderline poking at one another. Sometimes it’s flirty…. But is it flirty, or is it poking?") Another quote to back up the will they-won't they angle: While she does move on after [Buck] reveals he has a girlfriend, expect to see them “bounce very quickly between being best pals and having a little bit of sexual tension.” Because that post only went to the midway point of 5B, I can now add that an Eddie and Lucy interaction was also cut from the later episodes (possibly the finale): "...there’s a really nice moment towards the end of the season between Lucy and Eddie and you get to see Lucy gets it.” As for whether or not the plan was to make Lucy a main...AK and Kristen and Tim know the answer to that, but from the onset AK and Kristen spoke about Lucy's future, probably in hopes of endearing the character to the audience over the course of 5B: Reidel also revealed that fans won't meet Lucy's family this season, teasing: "Depending on what happens going forward, though, we'd love to. We make jokes about doing the whole Blue Bloods dinner set-up." Kebbel hinted that if the show is renewed for a sixth season, the plotline leaves room for more developments with Lucy. Peter Krause gave an interview prior to the finale where he referred to Lucy as a new member of the family because, as we found out, the final shot of the season was all the OG firefam + Lucy (+ Ravi, on the opposite side) walking together towards the trucks. But then summer came. AK posted about preparing for her first day on set - a day that just so happened to be the first for s6 production. And then...she wasn't there. She was actually in North Carolina filming a movie (but she sure did have people freaking out for a minute, which was probably the goal). We never saw her on set. The Lucy scene from 6x01 was a "surprise" to the audience. Before and after the premiere Kristen gave an interview where she said she was hoping to bring Lucy back in the second half of the season. This is what Kristen said at the conclusion of 6A: Are there plans for Arielle Kebbel’s Lucy to return to 9-1-1 this season? “I’m not sure yet. We’re still planning the back half of the season (premiering in Spring 2023), so there are some question marks about space and real estate and what the stories are going to be. We’re still figuring that out.”
I don't think it's out of line to say the negative/dismissive reception impacted AK's place on the show rn, but I also think that it's possible that even *if* Kristen wanted to "start over" and act like the BL stuff didn't happen, AK made the decision to distance herself from this experience for now since it did not go at all like she was told/believed it would. (Many will say that Kristen probably thought people would look past the cheating because they just wanted BT to end, and with the way AK was able to discuss her character and Buck potentially having something brewing while he was still going to be in a relationship...yeah, that checks. On the one hand, I want to feel sorry for AK that her boss completely misread the room and had her thinking it was a great idea, but on the other....she did not sign up for another coming-of-age teen drama. People don't want to see that kind of stuff on a show like 9-1-1, especially not from a character as loved as Buck. If she knew anything about the show she could have seen the backlash coming. Do your research, babes.)

The Masked Singer Season 3 Episode 7: Last But Not Least, Let’s Meet Group C (Kickoffs Commentary and Guesses)
Hello fellow Masked Singer lovers! Welcome (or welcome back) to my commentary and guesses for the Masked Singer. Last night, we meet the last group of 6 masks for the season, Group C. The group consists of the Night Angel, Bear, T-Rex, Rhino, Astronaut, and Swan.
Evaluating the whole group, like I did with Group B, this is the most bizarre group of masks ever, like wow. That reveal was absolutely insane, so let’s just get right into it...
As you know, this is a **SPOILER ALERT**, avert your eyes now if you don’t want to know what happens during this episode. This is a disclaimer, don’t say I never warned you.
Ok so the first Group C mask to go home was:
*DRUMROLL PLEASE*
THE BEAR
Tumblr media
Alright, so I would be lying if I said I didn’t see this coming. She was alright, I was between her and the T-Rex for the elimination with my money going to the T-Rex but whatever she wasn’t the best vocally out of the group at all. Having said that, I would never ever in a million gazillion years ever would have guessed correctly who she was... I am not going to lie the weirdest thing I have seen on this show was this person singing Baby Got Back.
And the person that made me laugh out of shock and was revealed to be the Bear is...
SARAH FREAKING PALIN (and I thought Tony Hawk was shocking... ya I am still shook at how bizarre this is... u think I am lying? Look at the picture...yup that is Nick Cannon twerking, I said bizarre and I didn’t joke)
Tumblr media
Ok her performance was not what I expected from former Alaska governor and 2008 Republican vice presidential nominee... heck, I never thought a politician would be on the Masked Singer. Not getting into politics, because I really hate politics with a burning passion, but wow I never would’ve thought a republican would be on the show. AND HER SINGING BABY GOT BACK?! Wtf, and she freaking knew all of the words!! Like, I am impressed not gonna lie. People have been hating her on the internet but kudos to her for going for it and yup it’s weird but she went for it and wasn't scared to be judged. I respect that, you go Sarah Pailin, you rap about big butts.
Anyways, looking back at the clues, it makes sense:
Ice Skates= she always talks about how she is a hockey mom
As and Ks playing cards= AK= Alaska Abbreviation
Calendar with “live”written under Saturday= SNL = Tina Fey impersonating her on SNL
At the start of the show, Nick said that there are 2 people who were voted Time’s Most Influential People = she was one of them
Alright, so shock aside, let’s talk about the remaining contestants going to the playoffs:
1. The Night Angel
Tumblr media
Performance: I really enjoyed the Night Angel’s performance even though her mask is so creepy and kind of hard to look at. However, she is one of the strongest, if not the strongest, singer in this group. Her voice is fantastic and I love her tone. You can tell she’s been doing this for a while. I do know exactly who this is, my guess being:
KANDI BURRUS (Real Housewives of Atlanta)
Tumblr media
The clues make a lot of sense to my guess:
Doors with “4,” “5,” and “6″ = She sang a song called “4,5,6″
Group of grandmas= has a restaurant called “The Old Lady Gang”
Men in duck bills= she wrote “bills, bills, bills” for Destiny’s Child
2. The Astronaut
Tumblr media
Performance: Ok, so yes I get it he was pretty shaky but he was nervous give him a break. I don’t care though because he is my favorite and I love him so much. I really want him to go far in the competition because I know how he sings and he is fantastic. Having said that, from the moment I heard his voice, I was convinced that he is:
HUNTER HAYES
Tumblr media
Ok, so the Internet agrees with me based on voice, but the clues also correlate:
“if you want something enough”= one of his most popular songs is Wanted
“This might sound crazy”= another popular song, I want crazy
“Code Blue”= releasing a 3-part album called Wild Blue
Skeleton Foot= duet with Victoria Justice 2011 version of Footloose soundtrack
Beginning of show, Nick also said that one of the masks won a Guinness World Record, which Hunter did for the most city performances in 24 hours
3. T-Rex
Tumblr media
Performance: Ok, this is not my favorite performer I am not going to lie, but she got so much energy wow. She isn’t a singer like not at all, but she is a great dancer and capped full of energy. I burned calories with her, damn. There is only one person who is this energetic and bonkers... and I am so happy that finally a YouTuber is on the show, so my guess is:
JOJO SIWA
Tumblr media
Her voice and energy gave it away to me, but also her clues are so obvious:
“Put into a magical world where I was one of dozens talented creatures pirouetting the land” = reference to Dance Moms where she appeared for 2 seasons
Drawing with North and West= famous playdate with Kim Kardashian’s daughter North West
Bow and arrow= her line of bows and the fact that she always wears them in her hair
A balloon with the shape of a U with white, blue, and pink stars= the star colors are reminiscent of what she wears/her branding and the U could mean YouTube, since her channel is so popular (she is a YouTuber after all)
The other person who was Time’s most influential person was Jojo, last year being most influential on the internet.
4. Rhino
Tumblr media
Performance: Ok, I love Rhino. He is such an unexpected favorite for me. I love his voice, he is such an amazing vocalist. Wow, he is amazing. The thing is I feel the same way I did at first with the banana. Is he a country singer or is he an athlete? I really cannot tell. Some people are saying it’s Tim McGraw. Others are saying it’s an athlete and I also heard some guy from Lady Antebellum at one point. I have no idea who he can be.
The clues were pretty confusing:
Bike with butterflies on the handlebars
Pitcher with tea
Picture of Grand Ole Opry guitar
Magazine covers with Masked Quarterly and “Rhi-no? More like Rhi-yes!”
5. Swan
Tumblr media
Performance: I really liked Swan’s performance, she is pretty awesome. I’ll admit she had a shaky start but she’s pretty good. Her voice isn’t as strong and powerful as Rhino, Night Angel, and Astronaut, but that doesn’t make her any less amazing. Also, she has the costume I would want to have if I were on the Masked Singer. Based on the voice, I think she is:
JENNIFER LOVE HEWITT
Tumblr media
It makes sense because of the clues:
Ghost= she starred on the show Ghost Whisperer
Heart pool floatie= “Love” her middle name
Megaphone= starred in horror movie in 90s “I Know What You Did Last Summer” where her character is screaming
She is on 911, a crime show on Fox, which is the same network as The Masked Singer.
Ok, so thank you for reading my little recap. Let me know what you think about my guesses/commentary. Who’s your favorite contestant? See you guys next week! Bye!
