Lecture 17: In case you’re curious, here is close to an hour and a half of vintage MTV Music Television from May 30, 1982. In this aircheck footage, original MTV veejays Alan Hunter and Martha Quinn host a diverse range of music videos, including New Wave (Split Enz, Blondie) pop (Billy Joel), hard rock (Canadian rockers Triumph), and classic rock (Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers), You can clearly see from the TV studio sets, the commercials, and the videos that MTV was the first major cable channel dedicated entirely to young television viewers. This aircheck still has a fresh, effervescent feel to it, 38 years later.
