Disney aims to revamp Buffy the Vampire Slayer (with help from Dolly Parton) 💭 It’s a nothingburger of a story, and amounts to glorified Dolly Parton clickbait. But just to be clear: where there is no Joss Whedon, there should be no Buffy. If we’ve decided we no longer wish to hear from Joss —and “I” among “we” have not— then we should no longer have Buffy. ready or not | conner kent
summary: little blurb about introducing conner to more music than just 70s and 80s (thanks kory and gar), and you come across "ready or not" (bridgit mendler version for this) on your playlist. and, in case you forget how it goes, the "i can be your kryptonite" lyric comes up
also includes platonic!rachel roth because she needs to have happiness too, and that's baby sis for real
masterlist
song: ready or not by bridgit mendler (will try to connect the song to the post when spotify quits acting crazy)
"i don't understand. i thought the 70s were the best era of music"
you roll your eyes affectionately, knowing his first experiences with "modern" pop culture were only from genetic memory, kori, and gar. "conner, the 70s set the groundwork for most of what you hear today. but what you hear today? it created an entire generation, it set the groundwork for meme culture, for a connection that could not be attained back then. it offers its own beauty, and... you know what, kryptonian, just listen to this okay?" he laughs at your passion, and nods to say he'll give it a chance. like there was another option, you just got a new bluetooth speaker and learned how to connect it to the intercomms system within titans tower.
you tell conner to look through your spotify playlists and pick which one he'd like to try today, and as he hands your phone back to you, you nearly bounce on the balls of your feet because you see he picked a playlist ripe with peak early-mid 2010s pop and r&b -- the time of vine, the beginning of tumblr fandom crazes, the last time disney had consistently good content... oh you're about to have a party. you immediately press play and "wings" by little mix begins to play as you try to remember the dance moves from the music video and harmonize with the british girl group. conner seems to be pretty neutral, but you get him up on his feet anyway because you're going to enjoy this time either way.
at hearing the 2010s pop beats, rachel comes out of her room, and a smile graces her usually worried face as she starts to sing and dance with you. it's good to see rachel acting her age, enjoying herself after going through so much in a short number of months. the three of you dance along to little mix, amanda seyfried's crooning on the mamma mia soundtrack, and even a one direction song, enjoying the lighthearted nature of the moment. you hear the beginning "hey-ey, hey-ey" of one of your favorite songs from the era, and your eyes widen as you prep yourself to give a once-in-a-lifetime performance of bridgit mendler's iconic cover song. while conner's confused, he doesn't push it as he knows you're just starting to get into it.
I'm the kinda girl who doesn't say a word you sing/scream into the makeshift banana microphone Who sits at the curb and waits for the world But I'm about to break out, about to break out I'm like a crook tonight you laugh at the irony of saying that in a tower built for young heroes I caught you staring at me and I was thinking clearly Now I'm like a bee and I'm huntin' for the honey And I'm kinda shy but, you're super fly, yeah I could be your kryptonite
you hear rachel begin to laugh as the "oh"s come in, and you turn with your head tilted to see conner looking at you and your phone with shock and confusion, maybe slight offense, but overall amusement. that face alone makes you realize you just sang about being someone's kryptonite
in front of the resident kryptonian, mr superboy himself
"well it looks like bridgit mendler's probably a fan then. maybe she'll take a break from her studies and give a private concert," you shrug and continue to sing and dance along as rachel continues laughing at the coincidence
conner just continues to wonder why bridgit mendler would really want to be something so dangerous and weakening to her crush she's singing about. especially since you make him feel so safe and even stronger.
<3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3
he's been acting real luthor-like lately in s4, but we love our bald-headed baddie. this fic however, is mostly based inbetween s3 and s4 before he meets luthor cuz... i mean unless you're into that, love that for you and therefore you imagine whatever you wish darling
also we love dr bridgit mendler, our studious disney channel star

Hi!! For eddeddy: 2, 3, 5, 6, 10 and 25.
Hey thanks so much for the ask! I'm gonna go ahead and answer the ones I got from the anon here as well, so I don't have to make a separate post.
2. (anon also asked) Who confessed? How?
So I do think that Edd would be the first one who's open with his feelings because he's the first one to accept his sexuality. I've delved into it a little bit in another post, but I essentially think that Edd is the one chasing Eddy for a while, at first. Then he gives up and decides to date other people, or remains single, either one. He basically drives Eddy crazy and they end up getting together after a weird on and off, will-they-won't-they type situation-ship. It could happen in many different ways, obviously. But that's my general outline, lol.
3. (anon also asked) Describe their first date.
This one's hard because I don't picture a first "date" per se, but if I had to choose, I'd guess something pretty casual. Probably dinner and a movie at one of their houses. Most likely Edd's since his parents are never home anyway. Eddy cooks something and makes a giant mess, which they argue about. He tries to clean, but Edd stops him, knowing he's going to have to come behind him and redo it anyway. They eat awkwardly at the table, since food is not allowed outside of the kitchen/dining room. Eventually, they get around to watching whatever gratuitously pornographic 70's movie Eddy chose. Edd barely pays attention because he's so wired. Eddy barely pays attention because he keeps picturing Edd's parents coming home and finding him in the house, after being explicitly barred. Edd only follows rules that are convenient for him, you see.
5. Describe their first time having sex.
Probably very drunken and uncomfortable. Edd pukes at some point. Memorable.
6. Who cooks? Describe their cooking.
Eddy is the cook! He is really good at it after working in a lot of kitchens and being someone who loves food. Never trust a skinny cook! He likes to try new things, and put his own spin on classic recipes. He learned a lot from his mom as well, so he makes a lot of homestyle foods from the family recipe book. His dad was definitely a BBQ dad, so he's good on the grill as well.
10. What is their sexual dynamic like?
I think they're fairly vanilla, with Eddy trying to bust out the occasional novelty move. How embarrassing.... Edd finds it hilarious and plays along.
11. (from anon) I already answered this one, but thank you!
14. (from anon) Who do they talk to when they want to complain about their partner, or when they have a relationship problem?
Poor Ed, having to deal with it from both sides. I don't know who else they'd go to. I have an HC that Eddy and May become good friends, so I'm sure they'd eventually confide those kinds of things in each other. I'd say in general they try to confront each other about their issues, even if it's in their own sarcastic asshole ways.
17. (from anon) What's each person's type? Does their partner meet this, or are they an atypical match for them? I think Eddy is attracted to "manly men", funnily enough. Broad shoulders, chiseled jaw, classic masculinity. He watches a lot of old Hollywood movies for a reason. So, no, Edd is obviously not that. Edd has his own form of masculinity, but that isn't what matters to Eddy in this case. Eddy appreciates Edd's perceived femininity because in a way, it makes him appear more "manly" himself. Edd's type is probably exactly Eddy. Or the female version of Eddy (bi representation matters). Aggro, chubby, and flamboyant with a devilish charm. And a nice smile 😁
25. Assuming they have children, what is their parenting like?
I highly doubt they'd have kids, for various reasons. If they did, I feel sorry for the kid. Mostly kidding, but I think they'd have very different parenting styles. Eddy would be the laid back, fun dad who lets the kid get away with murder. Edd would be the very structured helicopter parent. Edd would have a lot of very strong feelings about how to raise a child. His OCD would probably prevent him from wanting a kid, because he'd be so afraid of screwing up somehow. Eddy doesn't even like kids, but he's good with them. I can't really offer many thoughts on this topic because I just don't see them having kids to be honest.
Thanks again for asking! If you read this, you can bill me for therapy.

Today's compilation:
The Wild Bunch 1995 Reggae / Roots Reggae / Rocksteady / Dub
First off, let me just say that I am in total awe of this crop of reggae instrumentals from the 60s and 70s here. So much music since has come with so much more fuss and technological advancements, and yet an unscalable pile of the stuff that came out after this doesn't seem to come close to how good a bunch of these simple tunes still are. In a broad sense, all these songs' formulas are pretty simple, but they really still just manage to click so damn well 😌.
From this comp's liner notes:
During the past eight years, Trojan have pioneered the 'Revival' Reggae scene. Our re-issue programme has preserved some of the best vocals ever recorded in Jamaica, but with the emphasis being placed on some of the island's many talented singers in recent years, the musicians have tended to be ignored. This current release reverses that trend by turning the spotlight onto the 'players of instruments', and in so doing we pay tribute to Kingston's legendary session men.
Now, because nearly all of these are straight-up instrumentals, they all pretty much operate in the same way, and each of them seem to have one thing in common that ends up either making or breaking the tune: the lead instrument. Because reggae riddims are inherently repetitive and steady, if left alone, they will naturally get stale. So, it takes a good melody of some kind to be laid atop that riddim in order to lend the song some much needed variety. And in a whole lot of these 27 tunes, that ends up coming to remarkable fruition.
It's hard to even really know where to begin with this album since there's so much goodness to be found within it, but the thick, whistle-ringing improvisational organ of Lloyd Charmer's "Ling Tong Ting" is an absolutely terrific place to start. Then the JJ All Stars get topsy-turvy with the audio channels on "Memphis Underground," by sending the melodic leads exclusively and *very prominently* through the left, and 90% of the riddim through the right; Herman Marquis' "Tom's Version," whose intro I'm pretty sure I've heard sampled in at least one hip hop tune before (Wu-Tang, maybe? It's honestly driving me crazy that I can't put my finger on it), then follows by doing a wonderful job of harmonizing its organ and trumpet, yielding this fully warm and satisfying haze; the legendary Augustus Pablo, who singlehandedly managed to transform the melodica from a mere plaything for children into an instrument with serious gravitas, shows why on a rootsy piece of dub called "Great Pablo;" and then towards the end, we get a bit of a surprise with a piece of gospel-reggae that's actually not an instrumental: the Harry J All Stars "Holy Moses," which is aided by a small set of female singers whose deployment of soul harmonies reminds of the backup singing that can be found on a bunch of Bob Marley hits.
But the closing title tune by the Music Doctors may be both the most remarkable and most fun track of them all, for the simple fact that it uniquely trades its leads between—not things like guitars, horns, and organs—but just bass and drums. And the bassist just seems to carefreely play this laid-back and very recognizable piece of melody from The Jackson 5's "I Want You Back;" it's so good!
So, a phenomenal collection of rare Jamaican reggae instrumental classics here, from the genre's premier label itself, Trojan. Yesterday, I posted about an excellent metal cassette from 1985 that's also called The Wild Bunch, and given how good that that album was, I really didn't think that this one could outdo it, but it very much did!
Highlights:
Selwyn Baptiste - "Mo' Bay" Boris Gardiner - "Memories of Love" The Dynamites - "Phantom" Sound Dimension - "Soul Food" Lloyd Charmers - "Ling Tong Ting" The Aggrovators - "The Sniper" JJ All Stars - "Memphis Underground" Lynn Taitt & The Jets - "Love Me Forever" Herman Marquis - "Tom's Version" The Tennors - "Copy Me Donkey" Winston Wright - "Heads or Tails" Augustus Pablo - "Great Pablo" Harry J All Stars - "Holy Moses" Music Doctors - "Wild Bunch"

Frosty Ruins The Lord Of The Rings (1978)
This will be my first time ever watching this version of Lord Of The Rings, I didn't even know it existed until fairly recently. So this review is based on total first impressions.
To start with it opens like an old film serial and looks kind of janky. You could tell it was from a time where a lot of people probably didn't even know what Lord Of The Rings was, back when it was a far less mainstream property, back in the days where Robert Plant could slip plot details from the book into a song and expect that nobody would really take notice.
I'm not sure if the opening is live action or is rotoscoped like parts of the rest of the movie but it looks like they just filmed actors but did them all in shadow so they didn't have to design quality costumes. The voice over is classic 70's and is vaguely the same as the opening of Jacksons Fellowship Of The Ring, which becomes a theme.
The movie differs from the books and the Peter Jackson movies because it puts the scene of Smeagle murdering for the ring in with the introduction. However you can also see that Jackson obviously took a lot of inspiration from this version rather than just using the books as source material.
You can also see the ways that Jackson made it better, there are elements of the storytelling that to me are missing in this version. For example in this version as the nature of the ring is being revealed by Gandalf, he knows coming in what the ring is and begins the conversation by saying it is evil. Whereas in the movie there was some additional tension added by Gandalfs uncertainty, and there was a bit of a fake out and a moment of false relief. There's also the way Frodo just casually slips in the line about wishing this wasn't happening in his time…but it hasn't yet been established just how dire the situation is so the line falls flat.
As the animated portion of the movie takes off, you kind of see also that originally the story was marketted more exclusively to kids. The art style is a lot more cartoonish than I would have guessed, it's like studio ghibli crossed with an 80's cartoon like He-man. The voice over also sounds cartooney and is done in that same 80's cartoon manner. While I don't enjoy it as much as the live action which to me was near perfect…it's not terrible. The character design isn't my favourite but the art style is still very good even though the realistic live action animation rotoscoping doesn't mesh well with the cartoonish simpler animation or look all that great, but it is interesting, very well composed. The backgrounds look like they would all make good paintings that I would frame and hang around the house. The movie looks like it's a product of its time so I can see there being a dedicated fanbase for this version but I can also see people saying it's cheesy and dorky.
Speaking of bad character design. I hate what they did to most every character especially Sam, they made him look and sound like a little effeminate homunculus. Saruman the white they for some reason depicted in a red cloak. The Nazgul looked less intimidating and more zombielike, they had the movement of lurchy hunchbacks that would have been reminiscent of old 30's horror movies. Aaragorn also looked so frumpy and plain, almost native american looking. Elrond looked so plain and looked more like Kevin Nealon than the animated Kevin Nealon from 8 Crazy Nights where he played the mayor. The orcs and trolls looked like smudgy incoherent blobs, the only reason you can tell it's supposed to be a creature is the glowing eyes. Even the balrog looked weird and less intimidating…and they didn't really build it up in the Moria scenes like the books and other movies do. Although one interesting thing about the characters is I thought the voice actor for Frodo was excellent and actually sounded a lot like Elijah Wood, to the point I wonder if that effected his casting at all.
There are moments compositionally that seem amateurish, for example they introduce Merry And Pippin by having them simply walking behind the main characters without introduction, and then they threw in dialogue about them agreeing to follow them as far as Bree…but the audio sounded different and it sounded like the voice actor rushed the line to make it fit into the scene before it changed. Seems like they made a last minute change because they had to cut the scene where they introduced the characters or because they realized they forgot to explain who they were. Then it cuts to a shot of them doing a weird little dance and then the scene changed again…very strange and makes the whole thing looks less professional.
One other complaint I have is that the visual depictions of magic use are not well done at all, and if I did not already know what was happening I would have no clue what I was looking at. The duel between Gandalf and Saruman was just flashing lights, and there was a prolonged scene with the black riders where the background kept shifting in and out and it looked like they were in the sky one second and on land the next. And they just held out their hands and Frodo just seemed to stand there watching them point at him for no reason at all. Knowing the story I know what is happening but without the context of the books or the Jackson movies this scene would have been very confusing.
The action is also underwhelming. The way they swing their swords makes them look like less effective weapons than a twig, they hit enemies with a sword like they're using a blunt object, it's hard to describe what I mean but it just looks wrong.
The other main issue I have with the movie is that because it squeezes the whole story into one two hour movie a lot is missing, a lot is glossed over and many of the scene changes seem abrupt. For example they talk about going through Lothlorien and then cut immediately to talking with Galadriel. The biggest problem with this version is that so much is missing. It's only half the story with Return Of The King completely missing because of a cancelled sequel. But even much of the parts they did show were greatly cut down and much was ommitted.
One thing i liked about this version is that they never really explain in the Jackson movies how Frodo kept gollum in line. The idea that he could threaten to use the ring to command him as a thrall was never in the movie but it was in the books. So for all my complaints I can't say it wasn't a faithful adaptation. It was an interesting one time watch and for parts of it I did enjoy it, it is still Lord Of The Rings so it can't be totally bad. I'd certainly rather watch this than anything Amazon shits out. Overall though it wasn't good and it's enjoyablity depends on how much you enjoy anachronistic cartoons about classic fantasy literature.

1, 2, 4, 6? 📚
2) What are 2-5 already published nonfiction books you think you want to read in 2023?
Ok so I’m waiting for this one to arrive and I’m extremely excited :
Tumblr media
And my dream is to read this one entirely :
Tumblr media
She passed away in 2016 and her writings have not been published in years… I’m a bit of a paper fetishist (especially for people I adore) so of course I want the physical version 😭 but I’m afraid it might be hard to find and most of all very expensive. So either I keep waiting for a miracle either I accept to read the pdf version hehe…!
And finally these two :
Tumblr media Tumblr media
These also are two very rare books I plan on finding and buying lol 🥲 ! These were supposed to be a triptych/trilogy but life is hard and making books costs money so unfortunately it didn’t happen. The first volume is about the international post-punk, cold wave, techno-pop, dark folk, gothic rock, electronic, EBM, industrial metal scenes, basically all the related movements that have appeared since the 70’s etc……. And the second volume apparently tackles the….French gothic scene ??? As well as other francophone gothic scenes such as the Swiss, Belgian and Luxembourgish, which I don’t know shit about. As far as I know these are THE MOST COMPLETE publications about the subject written in French !!!!
4) Do you plan to read any genres you haven't read much before?
Hummmm as funny/crazy as it sounds I’ve never read any horror novels lol ! (Except for Carrie when I was a preteen) I watch horror, I read horror mangas, horror comics, even theorical/philosophical stuff about horror in magazines but no horror novels. Reading horror novels sound way scarier than any of the other stuff I listed that contain CLEAR IMAGES 😭 ! But I’m ready and would like to give it a shot. Other than that any good books that contain magical realism ? English Gothic Literature, French romantisme noir. And more theorical/philosophical/scientific stuff about subjects I care about !
6) Do you have any conceptual reading goals?
E.g., I plan to read books on food history.
Yes absolutely, as you can see in the previous book choices & the answer just above, I would like to read more theorical essays about music genres and their historical and political aspects, same goes for genre cinema, and the different themes and recurring patterns found there .
But also more books about cultural studies and critical theory. A few years ago for a long time I was going through a very strong feeling of DÉSIDENTIFICATION (disidentification) which was painful at the time, but also freeing ! [ I am still and constantly going through it tbh but in a very less violent way, the freeing part is starting to kick in hehe !] so, I was saying this word constantly to talk about how I felt and I ended up doing research and learning that this term had already been invented/theorized by someone called José Esteban Muñoz, in his very first book :
Tumblr media
It made me very emotional to know that someone had written an entire book around the topic lol and now I really want to read it ! I found myself wrapped in feelings of unbelonging since forever so I’m always very attracted to and interested in what other people may have said or thought about these matters.
I will probably go through these rollercoasters of identification and disidentification my whole entire life but that’s also what makes it exciting and interesting and worth living I guess !
Not being able to categorize and decrypt you easily or at all is something that always enrages aaaaaaaall types of people ! And this is something I absolutely love and hate and find very interesting.
Pissing of and disturbing people by my very existence has always been my little specialty ! At some point I even started cultivating this by trying to scare people (through my art, looks, and unconsciously, probably, some aspects of my personality and life ““choices”” such as isolation) as an attempt to protect myself and free myself from this weight loool ! Which in my experience really isn't always a good idea, and once again is as liberating as it is painful !! For myself and others !!
Partly for all these reasons i have always been very drawn to the idea of “monstrosity” and have identified with monsters in art for as long as I remember so I’m always very happy to come across writings/books about this ! (if any of you have any recommendations btw don’t hesitate 🤍 ! Except for Paul B. preciado’s book that I have already heard about)
Anyway !!! So yeah basically I want to read these 5 books 😂😂😂….The only link I see between them is the idea of community that I have loved and hated and loved and hated and LOVED again 🔄🔄🔄🔄🔄♾️♾️♾️ and that I keep deconstructing and reconstructing perpetually !!!!
Thank you very much for the very interesting questions, loved answering these and sorry if « 2023 book ask » might have turned into « over sharing » ?? I just thought that it was related, and wanted to explain the book choices !
Have a great night !! 🫶🏼🫶🏼🫶🏼

i wanted to comment on your response to the person who mentioned ‘it hurts me’. it wouldn’t let me, i guess it was too long😭 but here it is☺️
i agreeeee, your series always come to mind when i hear this song & yes yes to the grunts in the 68 version! i loveee that part. honestly, i prefer the 68 version of a lot of his songs. & i agree the change in his voice somehow brought so much more passion to it. ‘love me’ is one that i adoreee & there’s the part towards the end when he sings “if you ever go, darling i’ll be oh so lonely” but instead of just singing it normal he goes “i’ll be oh oh oh oh so lonely”. i’m sure yk what i’m talking about lol but it’s something about that part i love & don’t get me started on ‘trying to get to you’. the 68 live version EATS the original😭😭 i found another live version of it from june 21st 77 that’s also realllyyyy good, my fave one(crazy to see how amazing his voice still was w the condition he was in at that time) i’m not sure if you heard it but you should check it out!
DARLIN' let me tell you, the '68 versions of Trying to Get to You and Love Me have consumed my SOUL for a long time now and dominate my repeat EP playlist. I feel like he just put his whole ass self on the line in '68 and just gave it every ounce of what he had in all the ways--vocally, emotionally, musically, sexually--everything is just amazing. But those two, in particular, (plus One Night) have a quality to them that is just unspeakably wonderful and sexy as hell. I absolutely LOVE that we have the videos for those performances because he was just a MASTER at working the audience/camera in such an effortless way, it's unparalleled really.
I hadn't heard/seen the '77 version of Trying to Get to You, so thank you for recommending it! I will be totally honest that it is soooo hard for me to watch anything from '77 (or really anything after '71) because it makes me just so damn sad and he was so incredibly ill, BUT I am continuously amazed at the quality of those last couple performances when I do listen/watch. This one is a great vocal performance. I also loved his joking around at the beginning--his sense of humor was there till the end!
To get a little technical and nerdy, I truly think it is a physical miracle he was able to produce that kind of sound with what his body was going through. I mean, maybe he was having a good day, and for certain he was falling back on years of experience, but holy shit. Any one who sings knows that it takes a lot of effort with your diaphragm and lungs, and we know that between his megacolon, COPD, and state of his heart ALONE, the pressure on those systems had to have been immense. I'm just flabbergasted that he was able to hit those higher notes in chest voice with that kind of power in '77.
What's even more interesting is that his speaking voice is really thin and nasal here, all up in his face, likely because of those physical pressures and it took less effort to speak that way, but in the later 60's and early 70's his speaking voice was deeper, even when he was out of breath. So when he comes out with that power (even though it's a bit more nasal than before), it's really surprising! And he's still super dynamic with the cry in his voice and the way he's using slides so effectively, it's truly a feat.
Elvis was never a technically "perfect" singer and I'm glad for that because he did so many cool things vocally that made him the incredibly unique vocalist that he was. However, I would have LOVED for him to have just even a little more training because the potential he had in his range was immense, which you can really hear in the later years in the way his voice became so operatic. If he'd been well and lived longer, I can only imagine the amazing stuff he would've produced, considering that he was running on empty in '77 and did THAT (and don't even get me started on Unchained Melody 😭).
It is fascinating since we have many recordings/performances throughout his lifetime of the same songs to hear the changes in his voice. I love that we can compare and analyze them. What a gift he was!
Good LORDY, I rambled here, I'm so sorry! Anyway, you have wonderful taste and thank you for the rec, baby!! 💜

(hope this is ok?) You are directing a horror movie! What kind of horror is it (paranormal, slasher, monsters etc.)? What's the basic plot? Which actors do you cast (most immportantly, who is final girl/boy and the villain)? If there is a villain, do they have some sort of tragic backstory or are they just plain evil? And lastly, would you follow the classic 'villain-looks-hideous-under-the-mask' troupe or would they be average or even good looking? (You don't have to answer this btw)
-🦊
Hey!! I was so excited about this ask XD This is very okay!!
You are directing a horror movie! Oh really? Mistake on the producers part but Yay! Lets go.
What kind of horror is it (Paranormal, Slasher, Monster, etc)? Slasher, of course XD
What's the basic plot? A Slasher from the Slutty Friend's point of view. The pinnacle of the idea that- 'You cant pick your genre'.
This woman is a Slasher know-it-all, an aficionado (I mean- 'Horror movies turn on chicks faster than porno'- thanks Kelso from That 70's Show, you're so right XDD Haha), she's got the whole thing down to a science- but the thing is, she isn't exactly the pure, courageous 'Final Girl', type... She's the whore girl. And she knows this. That's okay. But the new guy in town? The one with a keen interest in her sweet friend? He's most definitely a Slasher- an actual goddamn Slasher- and she has to convince her naïve best friend (The Final Girl. The only one who can defeat the bad guy in this genre) that her new boyfriend is a Slasher- before he can catch her with her legs open.
Which actors do you cast (Most importantly, who is the final girl/boy and the villain)? This ones hard, I don't know actors!!! XD
If I could have younger versions of Jennifer Tilly and Sherri Moon Zombie as the two female leads, that would be amazing XDD Since this is hypothetical, I'm going with that. Like with Jennifer Tilly as the 'Slut Friend'/Slasher Flick Expert and Sherri Moon Zombie as the sweet, naïve Final Girl falling in love with the Slasher.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
As for the Slasher, Edward, uh... lets go with Spencer Charnas from Ice Nine Kills- that would be cool XDD He already is a Slasher in his music videos and he has a great look!
Tumblr media
I also want Brad Dourif and Robert Englund there together, as like secondary characters. They're these two old dudes that know about Edward (Maybe Ed's immortal and his last killing spree happened when they were younger) and help Tilly's character to figure out how to defeat him. Unfortunately, they're killed before they can tell her. But on the bright side!- I think their characters are basically platonically married(Live together and everything), and they get lotsa good banter. And no I would not be able to help myself from putting in Chucky/Freddy references. Like maybe Englund's character has a thing about Elm Street or is estranged from his daughter, and Dourif's character has a crazy ex wife.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
If there is a villain, do they have some sort of tragic backstory or are they just plain evil? Edward's character is the only part I unfortunately cant really figure out!! I don't wanna make him like any other Slasher! Hmmm, haha. Pressure.
I think he'd be plain evil, but also have a bit of backstory? Not too much, because that can get convoluted, but... I get slight incel vibes from him. So maybe he THINKS he was wronged somehow by a woman and now... well... yeah...
And lastly, would you follow the classic 'villain-looks-hideous-under-the-mask' trope or would they be average or even good looking?
He would be soooooo good looking, haha XD
Thank you Fox Emoji Anon!! ^^ This was super super fun and I actually really like the concept that came out of it!

Crazy ALOTO Wizard of Oz Thought
The 3 butch Peaches, Jess, Lupe, and Jo are the Scarecrow, the Tin Woodman, and the Cowardly Lion respectively.
Each of them appears at first to lack, and then turns out to possess, a personal quality in the same manner as each of these characters.
Let me explain.
Jess: The Scarecrow.  A Brain.
Jess appears at first glance to be an uncouth and uneducated heathen from the Canadian hinterlands.  She lacks refinement, shall we say. She also lacks the ability to pass, which is a strategy even the other butches seem to be able to employ.  The fact that she is so outwardly masculine further compounds her rural vibe to give off a (prejudiced) impression that she probably won’t be that intelligent (I could write a whole thing about why people associate female masculinity with stupidity but that is for another time), and definitely won’t be emotionally intelligent.
This turns out to be wrong very quickly.  Jess is smart.  She is highly observant, ridiculously emotionally intuitive, great baseball iq, good musical ability, at least a decent understanding of math, plus whatever you would call the rural version of street smarts (woods wits).  She’s not a book smart genius or anything, but honestly, she seems like a genius in her own way particularly when it comes to reading people.  Like the Scarecrow, people assume she’s dumb.  Like with the Scarecrow, they are wrong.
Lupe: The Tin Man.  A Heart.
Lupe seems like a complete hard ass from the first moment we meet her and in a lot of ways she is.  She’s harsh with Esti, weirdly abrasive in her first interactions with Jess, defensive with Carson, etc.  She is competitive, she is here to play.  (I am in no way saying this is unjustified, by the way; I think Lupe’s overall harshness is a defensive strategy that makes perfect sense in a world that is coming for her on so many fronts, especially when she’s dealing with racist BS from within her own team.) She tries very hard to seem like she doesn’t care about anything or anyone.
This also turns out to be blatantly untrue, though, often to particularly entertaining effect.  It makes for a great laugh, actually- especially in the scene in the bar with her date from the other team (Wait, baby.!..I mean, I don’t know her) and the scene where she and Jess search for Esti (No I don’t care...we need her, I’m worried about the team).  Despite her carefully callous exterior (and genuinely tough personality), it becomes clear that she cares.  This is especially true where Esti is concerned.   Yeah, she cannot show it, but it’s not caring too little that makes her lash out at Esti; if anything it’s the opposite.  Like the Tin Man, Lupe seems harsh and cold.  Like the Tin Man, she had a heart all along.
Incidentally, Jess and Lupe’s friendship/brotherhood showcases this well for both of them: Lupe’s heart first shows in her bond with Jess, and Jess’s weird little genius enables her to see through/facilitate fixing some of Lupe’s bullshit with Esti.
Jo:  The Cowardly Lion.  Courage (The Nerve).
Jo is such an under appreciated character, in my opinion.  She had one of the best arcs on the show.
From the moment we first meet her, Jo is placed as the more cautious “voice of reason” to Greta’s antics.  She is wary of Carson as baseball competition when they first encounter her.  She is constantly concerned with Greta breaking the rules, and interrupts and reminds her of them.  She is the most reluctant to go to the bar.  But through all of this, which we are mostly seeing from a more Greta or Carson based POV, there’s something else happening on the inside.  Jo starts urging Greta to go for it.  She does go to the bar, and when the worst thing happens, instead of turning tail and running she is bolder than ever.  She doesn’t want to hide anymore.  She’s not the scared one-Greta is.  And she is going to take her moment to shine, goddamn it.  She faces the future with courage, and defiance, and even a kind of joy, in the face of everything.
When I first watched the show, I was so expecting it to go a different way, with Jo blaming Greta for talking her into going to the bar and thus getting her trapped in the raid.  That would have been the predictable fight.  But instead, it went for something so much richer and more interesting, and in that it revealed that Jo, like the Cowardly Lion, had the nerve all along-she was finally ready to use it.
This concludes my rambling unedited analysis.
Who is Dorothy in this situation? Carson, obviously, and I do think these 3 all play a role in her journey pretty similar to their Oz counterparts (Lupe and Jess guiding her at the bar, a more contentious back and forth with Jo-it’s not a perfect match but I see something there).  Also I would like to shout out the butch trio dynamic which I wish we’d seen more of-”showering” Lupe with praise, Jess and Jo bonding over boxers, etc.-I think their interactions were awesome and they only reinforce this reading for me as well.
I do also think they each share some physical traits with their Oz counterparts (Lupe is physically rigid, Jo is big and strong, Jess...literally looks like a scarecrow IDK what to tell you) which is certainly a coincidence but entertaining none the less.
Finally, I doubt this reading was written into the text intentionally, but I think it’s a fun way to look at it and thought I would share.  I couldn’t fit all of my thoughts in here, unfortunately, but I did my best.  This is unedited so apologies for the rough spots.  I love this show and its butches!  Go Peaches!

Self Portrait Research and planning
I'd like a self portrait approach with no rules, a more fun approach showing me in a more literal sense rather than abstract emotions shown in a deep thought provoking way.
Herb Ritts
Tumblr media
Herb Ritts is a famous fashion photographer who began working professionally in the late 70's. He won many awards for his fine art work and also directed music videos too. HIs work has featured in The Rolling Stone and Vouge magazine to name a few.
I like his self portrait work because his eyes are always captured in such a striking way. They are wide and wild looking adding a sense of craziness and unknown which really compliments his known creative personality. Only his eyes are sharp which really draws you right in. The dark glasses add even more contrast to the whites of his eyes as well making them pop out. His pose is unusual swell showing his hands. which I think is good as photographers work with their hands so they are very much part of them. the hands are also face framing too. the eye contact and the hands looking through to the camera lens adds a connection to the viewer.
Cindy Sherman
Tumblr media
Cindy Sherman's portraits are very much fun and themed and her trying to look like something else but her eyes always stay the same so you known that's a constant throughout all her self portraits. They are usually from a time period or fantasy and quite weird and creepy sometimes. I like her creativity and use of face paint , makeup and props to transform a look and add colour and history.
Tumblr media
Ideas and Planning
I like this album cover for Beabadoobee's Fake it Flowers album. Its her face divided into two and I though this could be usual in showing two sides to a person as sometimes I feel I live a double life. With this idea I might have the first glance, maybe more superficial version of me and the other side something showing more interest.
Tumblr media
This photograph was taken by her photographer friend Amir Hossain, who is an artist, photographer and director based in London.
Styling and what it portrays about me
I think for styling my portrait ill dress in an outfit I really like and also for the more mundane side something more regular but still me. I want to add 'props to the side of interest maybe like my headphones and paint in some album covers that i like since music and art make up a lot of what I'm interested in, for more deeper side of myself is shown just by the fact I'm split in tow as going home means I have to pair back my appearances and hide a lot of what makes me me.
I'm going to try full length and different poses as well.

„I’m more into the energy and vibe of a song.”
„I’m more into the energy and vibe of a song.” - https://metalindex.hu/2023/05/25/im-more-into-the-energy-and-vibe-of-a-song/ -
Garry, Jaguar is generally considered as one the first speed metal bands along with Venom, Tank and Raven, do you agree with it?
Well if we helped to invent speed metal we didn’t know we were doing it! We just loved to play fast and the faster we played the more we liked it. We were just teenagers having fun that’s all, we had no idea what was going to happen.
In your opinion, did the band already have a name in the scene before you released Power Games?
Yes in some places like Holland for example, due firstly to our demo tape then the two              singles that came out before Power Games. We were already regularly playing shows in the the UK and Holland, trying to build up a following long before Power Games was released in May 1983.
At which point did you start working on the new songs?
We were always writing new songs, that process never stopped and the songs that ended up on Power Games were the songs we considered to be the best when we went in to record the album. I think we were pretty good when it came to writing new songs, there was never any shortage of ideas or creativity.
You entered the Impulse Studios in November, 1982, to cut the album, were you prepared to record the material?
Yes as prepared as we could be. We had more than enough songs ready to go so we didn’t get stressed about that. The actual recording sessions were another matter though….ha ha!
What about the recording sessions?
We turned up and were basically told we had five days to record the album from start to finish. We thought Dave Wood was joking but he wasn’t and would not budge when l asked for more recording time. He said ’What do you want to do? Go on a fishing holiday?’…ha ha, this line has gone down in Jaguar history. We did the best we could but what can you do in five days?
Do you think, that the songs themselves all bear some strong riffcraft and excitement, the song structures are quite simple actually and the music is catchy?
Yes the songs were quite simple in arrangement and structure but we always tried to    make them singalong and catchy, because that’s what we liked. To be honest l don’t care about complexity and technical skill, that’s not my thing, I’m more into the energy and vibe of a song.
Did the tunes also show great hard rock implementations that fit your image and various examples of straight rock of the mid to late 70s can be traced through some of the material?
Perhaps ’Master Game’ might be an example of that but that’s about it. I don’t think the rest of the songs on Power Games sound particularly 70’s. We weren’t trying to re-create that decade.
Is Dutch Connection a tribute to Jaguar’s early-career popularity in Holland?
Yes it sure is! We first played there in 1981 and the reception we got was completely overwelming, it was awesome! Every time we played there it was brilliant so we decided to honour our Dutch fans with a song, so we wrote Dutch Connection for them. When we play it there the fans go crazy and so do we! I played it for James Hetfield last year, (2022).
Ain’t no Fantasy was on the Demo in 1981, was it a renewed version? Did you re-record it?
We decided to re-record it for the album because we felt we could do a better version of it. I think it’s better than the demo version anyway.
Does Power Games have three key ingredients: earthiness, enthusiasm and naïveté, at the same time this is an incredibly fierce, ass kickin’, top-to-bottom classic with nary a bad cut?
People say it does which is great, we just tried to make the best record we could under the time contraints we were given. It could have been so much better if we’d had more recording time.
How do you explain, that musically speaking Jaguar had a unique style and a personal sound?
It just sort of happened, evolved. Of course these days it not cool to talk about chemistry but l believe that’s what we had. Just like all my favourite bands. I also think our sound had a lot to do with the way that my guitar and Jeff Cox’s bass locked together, kind of ’as one’. Jeff was a phenomenal bass player, totally underrated.
Rowdy, rampant, and aggressive, yet tight, coordinated and semi-polished, the loose and unpolished sound of the guitars blend well with the basic nature of the songs, correct?
Ha ha, yes l guess so! That’s down to the way l play and my ’keep it simple’ mentality.
You worked with Keith Nichol, was he the in-house producer of the Impulse Studios? Did you get on well, was it easy to work him with?
Yes he was the in-house Impulse Studios producer at that time so we had no choice but to           work with him. We got on well and he was a nice guy but we would have worked with someone   else given a choice.
Is it true, that the label’s financial problems delayed the printing for several months? How long did it take?
There was no mention that Neat had financial problems at the time but yes it took them seven months to release the album.
Were there any shows or tours in support of the record?
We were always playing shows, both in the UK and in Holland, some of them coincided with the release of the album. I remember playing a bunch of shows in Holland with Raven around that time.
How about the gig at the Siesta Club in Hengelo, Holland, December 17, 1982, that was released on cd in 2006?
That show was never supposed to have been officially released, it’s more of a bootleg than anything else. Majestic Rock Records were going to put it out, Geoff Gillespie from the label called me and said he’d obtained a ’superb’ recording of the show and wanted to release it. They were going to put it out whether we liked it or not and as the band didn’t have the money to legally stop them l was forced into working on the release to make sure we got something out of it. In the end I got five hundred copies of the CD out of them plus they were supposed to pay us £1000.00 but never did. The label went out of business owing us and other bands a lot of money.
What do you recall of the 1983 N.W.O.B.H.M. scene compared to the early (1979/1980) days?
I don’t recall an awful lot about the scene in 1983 as we were in the process of changing our style to the more melodic ’This Time’ era. What l do remember though is it wasn’t as exciting as the earlier years. Maybe it was just what we were going through that made it feel less exciting.
Is the album a kind of late-to-the-game N.W.O.B.H.M. classic, but on the other hand is a landmark of that era?
I think it was kind of indicative of the ’second wave’ of NWOBHM, after the Maiden and Saxon etc wave. Us, Raven, Fist and all the Neat bands, I suppose you could call it the Neat Records era.
How do you view, that you were probably a year or two late in getting your debut out to make much of an impact?
It’s possible that if it had been released earlier it may have made more of an impact, yes l agree. It could have been released a little earlier than it was though because as I’ve said Neat Records sat on it for around seven months before they put it out.
When it comes to being underrated, Jaguar may as well fit the description…
Ha ha, I agree, well l would say that wouldn’t I! Perhaps we are but there again so are Raven, a criminally underrated band, Diamond Head too. There are a ton of underrated bands who don’t/didn’t get the success they deserved.
Garry, thanks a lot for your answers, any closing words to the interview?
My pleasure, I’m always surprised and grateful that anyone remembers Power Games after all these years. So thanks for asking me to talk about it….keep on rocking!!!

Savage New Canaan Muscle Vehicles: Old Generation or New
Ford was the initial of the Big 3 American vehicle manufacturers to present a car that would bring them back to a time when they was just one of the leaders in the automotive globe. Chrysler has actually revealed that they plan to be the following and also GM has actually introduced plans for a retro lorry too. Ford had actually initially done this retro point by means of the Ford Thunderbird but that was not considered a "muscle cars and truck" back in the muscle mass cars and truck age. Chrysler has restored the Battery charger name but it looks absolutely nothing like the Dodge Battery charger of the late 60's and very early 70's. GM brought back the GTO name but once again, it looked absolutely nothing like the previous GTO's.
Ford was the very first to bring a car back that actually appears like a previous design in the Mustang. The new Mustangs appear like a pervious Mustang from the muscle cars and truck period. Chrysler did the same with their news of reviving the Challenger, which in my viewpoint looks more like the Challenger than the Mustang does. Not wanting to be excluded, GM has actually announced they plan to bring back the Camaro. Their Camaro quite looks like the 69 Camaro which was and also still is a preferred body design amongst Camaro lovers. I still think the Challenger most resembles its desired target.
Savage New Canaan
Ford has actually done a suitable job valuing their Mustang. You can obtain a nicely outfitted Mustang GT hardtop for appropriate around $30,000. This is fairly valued in today's market. The various other 2 have actually not obtained their own to the display room yet so there is no chance to find out about pricing yet they face a difficulty that Ford does not have. Chrysler has the Viper as well as the Ram SRT-10 that likewise certify in the efficiency market. They can not price the Opposition too closely to those designs because individuals would possibly invest the money for the greater performance of the 10 cyndrical tube lorries. GM is confronted with a comparable issue as a result of the Corvette. The Corvette was just restyled and is even greater performing contrasted to the previous model. Their Z06 model currently flaunts an impressive 505 HP. All the reviews I have actually kept reading the brand-new model go crazy concerning this automobile. Plainly GM needs to value the new Camaro appropriately when as well as if they really do produce it. The name will certainly not be enough to offer it for an extended period of time. Once the first enjoyment wanes it will be a flop otherwise priced directly.
Michael Savage 1800Accountant
What is interesting to me is since the Big Three are losing market share as well as company is plainly not what it when was they are not only altering a lot of their lorries yet they are trying to come back right into their magnificence days. For instance, Ford got rid of their incredibly popular Taurus model and changed it with the Ford 500. Chrysler introduced an entire new designing within the last couple of years. GM is now bring out cars and trucks that more appear like the Toyota versions. I have some good friends that are big right into muscle mass automobiles and also the brand-new Mustang, Challenger, as well as Camaros have actually turned up in some discussions. None of them have claimed they would certainly even consider the $30,000 or more price that these cars will certainly have as soon as they struck the showroom floorings. For $30,000 a person might acquire a Camry, or the Maxima. The Maxima is a really high doing vehicle that additionally includes the included dependability.
I do not recognize what it will take for the Big 3 to actually turn things around however I actually like the appearances of the newer generation muscle cars. I believe they were sharp cars when they initially came out and also they are still extremely sharp. Ideally they do along with they look as well as they make their ancestors happy.

The Rolling Stones Reissue Review: Live At The El Mocambo
Tumblr media
(Interscope)
BY JORDAN MAINZER
Multiple times during The Rolling Stones’ 1977 concert at Toronto’s El Mocambo, Mick Jagger asked whether the critics had had enough to drink. It was presented as a joke, but I can’t help but think he was half serious. They were only five years removed from Exile On Main St., a huge commercial success that saw the band combine their early blues influences with pure rock and roll better than they ever had. The three albums that followed, culminating in the prior year’s Black and Blue, were considered minor Stones releases, certainly some of the least critically acclaimed of their career. So picture Jagger, leading one of if not the biggest band in the world at two secret shows at a 300-capacity venue, performing for adoring fans, joking more than once about music journalists. Almost half a century later, and after a few tracks initially appeared on the band’s 1977 live album Love You Live, we finally have a full document of these legendary concerts with Live At The El Mocambo. It paints a clear picture of a band looking back at their earliest inspirations while trying to stand up for the artistic merit of their somewhat maligned new material.
With the likes of keyboardist Billy Preston and percussionist Ollie Brown in tow, the Stones’ initial idea for their El Mocambo shows was to revisit the blues standards that first made them want to start a band, some of which they hadn’t played since their early days playing similarly small clubs, and a few of which they recorded for their early records. As such, they burn through classics like Big Maceo’s slow-lurking “Worried Life Blues”, Howlin’ Wolf’s dark, wailing dirge “Little Red Rooster” (featuring blues piano from road manager Ian Stewart), and Muddy Waters’ “Mannish Boy”, a song they would eventually play with Waters in Chicago. What’s remarkable is how well these older tunes fit alongside Black and Blue songs that can’t decide whether they’re trying to be blues or dive deep into the keyboard-funk jams of the 70′s. As much as the disco breakdown from “Hand of Fate” and falsetto-imbued slow jam of “Fool To Cry” foreshadow 80′s Stones, a song like “Crazy Mama” leads perfectly into “Mannish Boy”. In general, Preston shines on the Black and Blue tunes, from his bouncing piano lines atop the scratchy guitars of “Hot Stuff” to his vocal harmonies on an encore performance of the sneaky “Melody”.
During the encore, the band plays It’s Only Rock ‘n Roll’s “Luxury”, and Jagger introduces it by calling it “lesser known” and saying they want to make the tune more popular. The album had come out three years ago, and perhaps Jagger thought the tune’s reggae influences would be newly welcomed by a crowd more attuned to the popularization of the genre through Bob Marley. Still, it’s remarkable to imagine the Jagger of today worried about the reception of a minor song on a three-year-old album. The album ends with an 8-minute version of “Worried About You”, a song written for Black and Blue whose recorded version wouldn’t surface till 1981's Tattoo You, an album full of outtakes that ironically would end up sporting more hits and well-known songs than its predecessor Emotional Rescue. In hindsight, the 1977 El Mocambo shows were a turning point for the band, a combination of reflection and tinkering that reminded them how to synthesize the various things they did best, both new and old.

Do you have any personal preferences for Dracula adaptations? I got around to Jesus Franco's Count Dracula and WOOF did barely anything happen in that one.
Orson Welles did a radio play version that was fairly accurate AND let Mina play an active role in disposing of the count, which I liked a lot. I've got a deep fondness for the Bela Lugosi movie, mainly because of Bela's performance. Nosferatu, both the original and the remake, are likewise adaptations that I hold in high esteem. And for adaptations that threw canon out the window and did their own crazy shit, I'm pretty fond of Hammer's movies and Netflix's Castlevania.
I appreciate elements of Frank Langella's Dracula, and even Francis Ford Coppola's Bram Stoker's Dracula has a lot of stuff I can appreciate in a vacuum despite loathing that movie on a deep, visceral level. Stephen Somners's Van Helsing is dumb as hell but in a way I enjoy.
There's a 70's miniseries adaptation that people have told me is very good that I did manage to track down but I haven't sat down and watched it all yet.
I've kind of given up hope of finding an adaptation that captures the character dynamics that make the book so endearing, or embrace the audacious Victorian gothic horror imagery that's there. Like with Sherlock Holmes, King Arthur, and other things that are dear to me, I've come to accept that Dracula will only ever be adapted piecemeal. And I've become zen with that, especially since a lot of the piecemeal adaptations come up with some laudable elements of their own.
...it would just be nice if there were more that decided to keep Mina Murray's characterization when choosing which pieces of the book they want to take.
