how are you?

I saw you posts about the blue jays, and as someone trying to get into baseball, can you like maybe give me a rundown of how the league works and maybe an overview of the blue jays since thats the team Im probably gonna be rooting for? I'm trying to get into it but im completely new to the sport and im honestly a little overwhelmed.

omg okay, i only got into baseball a couple of seasons ago, so i don't know like every tiny detail, but here's a little overview! i'm a little honoured you asked me kjnskdjnsda

i'm assuming you know more or less how a game of baseball is played, but if not lmk!

so. mlb first.

the teams are divided between east, central, and west. within each of those there is also the american league and the national league.

AL east: Baltimore Orioles, Boston Red Sox, New York Yankees, Tampa Bay Rays, Toronto Blue Jays

AL central: Chicago White Sox, Cleveland Guardians (formerly the Indians but pretty much only old people still call them that), Detroit Tigers, Kansas City Royals, Minnesota Twins

AL west: Houston Astros, LA Angels, Oakland Athletics, Seattle Mariners, Texas Rangers

NL east: Atlanta Braves, Miami Marlins, New York Mets, Philadelphia Phillies, Washington Nationals

NL central: Chicago Cubs, Cincinnati Reds, Milwaukee Brewers, Pittsburgh Pirates, St. Louis Cardinals

NL west: Arizona Diamondbacks, Colorado Rockies, LA Dodgers, San Diego Padres, San Francisco Giants

In the NL, pitchers used to have to bat as well as hit, whereas in the AL there was a designated hitter (DH) who was not in the field, but rather stayed on the bench until it was their turn in the lineup to bat (instead of the pitcher). This rule changed last season I believe, and pitchers are no longer required to bat in the NL, but they can still do so if they want (see Shohei Ohtani, an incredible pitcher and batter). Pretty sure that's the only major difference. The AL and NL distinction is used during the All Star Games where the best (objectively) players from across the league play a game: AL versus NL.

It used to be that teams played their division rivals more than other teams, but the MLB has a new schedule this year that is trying to make it so each team plays division rivals less and interleague teams more (e.g., instead of playing other AL east teams a million times, the Blue Jays will play more NL teams). This is to try and make things a bit more even in terms of who plays whom, and also will allow fans to hopefully see their favourite teams more regularly.

For baseball, unlike in, say hockey where there's just single games against teams at a time, MLB baseball has series, in which two teams play anywhere from 2-4 games back to back. There are winners and losers of each game, of course, but there's also the winner and loser of the series. Series that have 2 or 4 games can have a tie, though.

Like other professional sports, there is a final playoff stint for MLB. It happens in the fall. This site has a good rundown of the playoff format!

Onto the Blue Jays:

So, the jays are Canada's only MLB team and as a result they pretty much have an entire country backing them. They are very vocal and proud of this fact, and take pride in representing a whole country. So that's always nice!

Everything I Know About KinnPorsche (from reading Astro’s fics and whatsapp essays)

Allow me to begin what will most probably be a chaotic and badly organised attempt at a summary (inspired by this post by @saffflina and requested by my good pal Astro) with an overview of the show: Kinn, heir to a mafia empire, falls for bodyguard Porsche. Drama and action ensues (as well as some spicy scenes). Also, it’s based on a book that I don’t think is as well loved as the show, mostly because it has questionable content in terms of consent and the like.

Kinn is the son of mafia boss Korn, (elder?) brother to Kim, and is in love with his bodyguard, Porsche. (I have no idea what happened to his mother or if he has any other siblings.) I believe that Korn is not the nicest of people, and that Kim is chaos incarnate. (Side note, Kim is too good-looking for his own good. It’s also worth noting that, from what I have been shown, everyone in this show is beautiful. BEAUTIFUL!!!! A n y w a y) I don’t know much about Korn beyond him being an evil mastermind but I do know that Kim has feelings for Porsche’s brother, Porchay (aka Chay). 

Speaking of Porsche, I don’t know how he got involved in the bodyguard industry or why his brother Chay gets brought into the mix either (I believe Chay’s still in school but I also could have confused this with fic ideas), and all I know of Porsche’s past is that he had a hedgehog that died and it traumatised him. (Fair.) What I do know for sure is that Porsche likes Kinn back and I believe by the end of season one they are a couple! Yay! Beyond Chay, Porsche’s family is a complete mystery to me (do they live far away?), and all I know about Chay is that he is musical (I think he plays the guitar?). 

Kim and Chay either get together and then break up or they just hook up but regardless Kim breaks Chay’s heart and Chay is v sad. Chay is Baby so this means that Porsche has beef with his brother-in-law, which is not ideal tbh.

The other couple I know of are Pete and Vegas. I have no clue how Pete fits into things but Vegas is the son of another mafia family trying to overthrow Kinn’s. Vegas’ father is abusive and messed him up a lot, but I think Vegas now realises that and is trying to help himself get better? Pete also knows this, and so forgives Vegas for torturing him and it turns out that maybe they both have feels for each other. 

Other characters I know of are the bodyguards Big, Arm, and Pol. I don’t know much about them tbh but I think either Big or Arm is head bodyguard/in charge of all the others (including Porsche, who he doesn’t like/didn’t get on with at first). There’s also someone called Tankhun (or Khun) who def isn’t a bodyguard but where he fits into the family tree, idk. He’s v stylish though.

Beyond characters falling for each other, I don’t really have a clue as to what the plot of the show is. I know that the bodyguards have to refer to their employees as Khun [name] (which must get so confusing with Khun being called Khun as well as being called Khun in terms of his underlings) and it is polite to call people P’[name]. Final observations are that I am aware of Kinn’s family having a medical bay in their home and owning a helicopter, and also that people tend to wear suits a lot (this just might be thanks to Astro’s fics, idk).

Outside of the show’s characters, I know that the showrunner is called BeOnCloud and Astro is moments away from petitioning him to get season two rolling. There’s also a KP world tour which baffles me as a concept (but, like, in a good way) and Astro is also moments away from petitioning the tour to make it to Europe asap. 

I’ve probably missed out many things but that is as much as I can dredge up from my tiny tiny brain. Here endeth the ramblings.

Okay, I couldn't force myself to give a simple answer, so here's just my whole overview on the season so far:

*disclaimer* I thoroughly enjoyed all episodes this season thus far. I didn't hate any of these, but the ducktales crew has set a very high standard for themselves, and I'd like to keep them to it.

Challenge of the Senior Junior Woodchucks!

Good start to a Huey season! Violet was handled much better than I thought she would be, and the conflict was handled very well! Played a bit into the Huey stereotypes I don't particularly like, but the point of the episode was him getting past those, so it's acceptable. A bit of a lackluster sideplot. Scrooge's arc this episode wasn't especially defined.

Quack Pack!

Great fourth wall breaking. As a film major this made my heart very happy. Good Huey lead without it being in your face. Acceptable use of normal Donald voice. Great cameos. But... a bit overrated if I'm honest.

Of course he'll have more development through the season, stop judging your whole perception of him off of one episode where he's half of a villian duo and the plot is juggling like 12 different things. Beautiful. Two of my favorite characters being besties and the center of attention. Yes please. The opening to this episode is adorable and way underrated compared to the rest of the episode. Although as we got towards the climax I did find myself looking at the screen like "...the writers do know this is... ducktales right?" It took itself just a sliver too seriously.

Haikyuu!! Liberos Idol!AU

Disclaimer: As usual, this is patterned more after K-pop, than J-pop.

Overview of the Group:

Another relatively chill group with reserved members who are so precious and must be protected at all costs.

While the group’s average height fall on the short side of the spectrum, they’re quite monstrous when it comes to stage presence that you don’t feel that they’re small, but instead are really, really big. Their fans (and even non-fans) have recognized their amazing stage presence when performing live.

This group generally gives off fun, playful, youthful vibes, and their MV’s are usually colorful and energetic, with 90s inspired music and aesthetic.

They are also insanely synchronized and even though each members have a specific designation, they’re all main dancer materials.

They had a reality show where they were taken to a secluded island and had to survive a full week there, winning challenges to get some supplies and eventually their ticket going home. This showcased their relationship as a group and their personalities as well and they definitely figured out who would survive being stranded on an island (hint: Noya would take living as a nomad on a stride and Yamagata would survive because he’s really practical.)

The Members

Yaku Morisuke – Yaku is the oldest member and the leader of the group and he serves as the main vocalist and overall mother hen. He’d also been training the longest, since he’d been in the agency for five years before he’d debuted, so he’s really thirsty for making his dreams come true. He used to do and post cover songs while playing the piano when he was a trainee. He’s good friends with other idols from other groups and sometimes posts about hanging out with them.

Seventeen’s Woozi is my inspiration for idol! Yaku.

Komi Haruki – Komi is one of the lead dancers of the group, he’s one of their variety representative because he’s really playful and outgoing, especially if you compare him to his more reserved juniors (with the exception of Noya). He’s the group’s mood maker and quite a savage snarker, but he’s a really good dancer and takes care of their acrobatic choreography. Has a vast knowledge of girl group songs and doesn’t hesitate to show people how good he is dancing them.

The best reference I have for idol! Komi is NCT’s Yuta.

Yamagata Hayato – Hayato is the youngest of the ‘hyung’ line and is in charge of rap. He’s mostly quiet and the father-figure, parallel to Yaku’s mother-figure, and likes to spoil his juniors, especially the ‘maknae’ line. Despite being one of the oldest, he’s actually new to the idol scene as he’s only been training for one and a half year before his debut with the group, but he’s hardworking and willing to learn from his impressive juniors.

My reference for idol! Hayato is Astro’s JinJin

Watari Shinji – Shinji serves as a lead vocal and dancer of the group. His first shot to stardom is when he joined a national star hunt when he was in middle school and did well during the contest, having reached the semi-finals, but failed to secure a spot as one of the grand finalists, losing from number of votes because people thought he was too young and should focus on his studies first. Nevertheless, he was offered a trainee contract by the agency, and had been training with them since then before his debut with the group.

Verivery’s Gyehyeon is my idol reference for Shinji.

Nishinoya Yuu – Noya is the group’s main dancer, rapper and face of the group as his claim to fame is being the representative of his agency for the second season of a reality show that aimed to produce a nation’s boy group, and having landed a spot as one of the final members of the group, hence making this his second debut with an official group. He has b-boy roots and actually skilled in parkour and skateboarding, the audience and fans love his wild child antics and his ridiculous but lowkey motivational one-liners that he used to wear as shirts he made popular during the show.

NCT’s Mark is my vision for idol! Noya.

Sakunami Kousuke – Kousuke is one half of the ‘maknae’ line and is a lead vocalist of the group. He’s also a skilled multi-instrumentalist who knows how to play piano, guitar, and even traditional musical instruments, had been training at it since he was a child seeing as his mother is part of a traditional music group and is actually famous for it. But he always wanted to become an idol and works very hard to prove and continuously improve himself. He sometimes compose songs for the group and it is always met with great enthusiasm and encouragement, especially from Yaku.

My reference for idol! Kousuke is Astro’s Sanha.

Shibayama Yuuki – The other half of the maknae line and official maknae of the group, is an outstanding all-rounder despite his young age, serving as lead dancer, sub-vocals, and sub-rapper and has earned the spot of the visual as he’s often focused on by the camera whenever they finish performing for live shows –the ending fairy of the group, so to speak. Has vast knowledge of different boy and girl group songs and dances and often gets pulled by Noya for impromptu dance-off along with Komi.

The best idol reference I have for idol! Yuuki is Verivery’s Kangmin.

There’s also Verivery’s Ring Ring Ring, Seventeen’s Adore U and Mansae, NCT Dream’s We Go Up, Astro’s Baby.

I seriously think they can pull off EXO’s Growl and NCT 127’s Cherry Bomb, for some reason, you know, if they decide to experiment with concepts. Or even if they don’t, I think they would kill it.

Joltin’ Joe’s Offseason Update

The Joltin’ Joe’s brain-trust gathered at the spring training compound in Port-au-Prince this weekend to begin planning for the 2021 season. The meeting began with an overview of the team’s transactions over the past few seasons. Following a lively discussion, a consensus was reached that Trader Joe is without question the crappiest GM in the league. To prove the point, the Jolts’ intern – and eighth-year Sac State undergrad – put together a list of the team’s worst deals over the past few years, with a particular focus on the go-for-broke 2019 season.

Triple oof. V&D scores again. Sure, the Jolts needed saves, but Woodruff’s in the second year of his contract at $0.25 and he’s the stud of the Brewers rotation. Nico will likely start at second for the Cubs and he’s still on a minor league contract. The Jolts then threw salt on the wound by giving up Ketel Marte to get Jazz back from the Knights this off season.

After several shots of grain alcohol, the Jolts leadership realized the team could have entered the 2021 draft with the following keepers:
