Tou you, my heart I surrender. (Prologue to SB)

Wanda Maximoff x Reader

Summary: The memories and the painful hunt Wanda's ghost had on you, found you swallowing for air as you were left alone to pick up the pieces after Wanda had broken up with you, resulting in you accepting an offer to move to the other side of the world just to find yourself.

A/N: This had started as a scene my mind created and it had evolved into some kind of self introspection? I just found myself writing this and I thought it'd be a nice prologue to my baker!Wanda AU? Anyways, I hope you like this and remember that whatever storm is looming over you, the weather gets better and life will grant you sunlight again.

Allowing the air to fill your lungs and the oxygen power through your blood, you took the courage needed to ring the bell, focusing on anything that crossed your mind except the possibilities that could arise from such a mundane act.

"Oh, hi Y/N," the brunette showing through the ajar door greeted you politely.

"Hi," you nodded, intending to calm your erratic insides. "I'm sorry to bother you, it's just my key broke, so I was wondering if you still had a copy of it?" You asked, hopeful. The idea of the hustle that it was to find a locksmith at such a late hour of the night after the stressful day you had was enough for you to just call it a night and sleep at the park bench.

"Oh, sure. Come on in," Wanda promptly left you standing awkwardly in there while she wandered inside the apartment. But before you could get lost in the ideas your mind was quickly creating, a soft purr had you smiling tenderly as you kneeled and picked the cat noir you've got too attached to.

"Hello to you too, bally," you scratched in between his ears as Liho snoozed in your arms.

Basking in the calmness the furry always provided, you absentmindedly sat on the couch, legs crossed and humming to a tune too muffled for you to decipher where it was from, as you fought hard to calm the stormy cloud that seemed to have moved from the sky above into your mind.

"Some things never change." You looked up quizzically from your place on the sofa as you watched Wanda approaching with the shiny object in her hand.

"I suppose," you frowned, trying to decipher the meaning of those words. "Thank you for searching for it," you shuddered as your fingers grazed hers for a little too long. The painful burn was enough to make you gasp.

"It's no problem," she smiled gently and your heart ached with the knowledge that smile doesn't belong to you anymore.

"I should go, now," you scratched Liho's ear as you placed a few small kisses on his head. “Goodbye, handsome. See you soon.” You placed him on the couch before standing up, ready to make your exit.

“Thanks again,” you smiled crookedly once you reached the door.

“Anytime,” she offered and you made the mistake of looking into her eyes, discovering some spark that disappeared as soon as it came.

“Bye, Wands.” You nodded your goodbye, exhaling all the air you didn’t know you were holding all this time as you leaned against the wall, trying to compose yourself. It was right then, right there, you confirmed the fact that you’d never get over her.

Almost as in acting on autopilot, the next day you finally got up after your back had started hurting from laying in bed for so long. One look at the clock on your bedside had you sighing mockingly at the grunting in your stomach. Padding your way to the kitchen, you opened the fridge looking for something appealing that could provide the comfort your empty soul needed. But before you could decide, the doorbell echoed through the place.

Opening the door you couldn’t help smiling at the brown bag and the tray of coffee that greeted you.

“Thought you’d need this,” Pietro shrugged, walking inside.

“Like always, you’re my savior.” You took one of the two cups, sipping the beverage, allowing its warmth to ease your insides.

“How are you?” The look in his eyes warned you to open up. And on the contrary of feeling menaced, you found calmness knowing you had people who cared about your feelings. Pietro always being on the top list.

Breathing in deeply, you slumped your shoulders. “I thought it’d be easy, but seeing her, hearing her soft voice… it left me hurting,” you confessed. “Last night was like a stab to my heart, but I can’t find it in myself to be mad at her.”

Nodding, Pietro pursed his lips for a moment too long. “Will you accept the offer?”

Feeling his inspecting eyes looming over you, you sighed peacefully. “Yes.” You paused, allowing the decision you had made to sink in.

“I have to find myself, and to do so, I gotta move on from her. Even if I break myself in the process, I know it’ll be for the better.”

“I’m so proud of you, Y/N,” his hand found yours on your lap and squeezed it tenderly. “You’ve been together for as long as we’ve met, I believe going away in search of yourself is the only right thing to do. Even if that means I’ll miss you.”

“It’s not like you’ll never see me again,” you giggled. “But yeah. I’m gonna miss you too. All of you.”

“You better,” he warned as he took a bite of his chocolatey muffin. “What you say we catch up on one of our shows?”

Smiling from ear to ear, you turned your body to face the TV. “Your turn to pick.”

And so, the next few hours had been spent in the company of your best friend, basking in his presence before you had to begin your journey far from the city and the people you loved.

At first, the days moved smoothly for the majority of it. But when the night came, the pain inside you only seemed to magnify as the memories of the greatest love you’ve ever had played in front of you.

The way Wanda had gotten under your skin, marking every part of your body and soul as hers, was something you could never loathe. Having been the prey of her charming persona, was something you could never regret, for she had been the one who loved you the deepest. Even if in the end, she left you alone to pick up the pieces.

But as time passed by and you started to work on yourself by going outside and exploring new places, you started to feel lighter.

What once seemed like something unthinkable, you now learned to enjoy, like for instance- a cup of steamy tea in a cozy café all by yourself. And the loneliness that you found yourself in, soon shifted into a comfortable cocoon where you recharged your soul and provided you with the clarity to understand your way of thinking, allowing yourself to dissect your thoughts and learn from them.

As the days, weeks and months went by, you allowed yourself to experience life through a new lens, finding yourself enjoying every sunray and every raindrop, having understood that you can’t have rainbows without a fair share of rain and sun in your life.

As time passed by and you discovered yourself, you made your peace with the owner of your heart. After all, Wanda had shown you how to love and how to cherish the littlest things in life.

Smiling at the tears running down your face, you thanked the universe for this experience.

The open scenery surrounding you, lured you to sit in the grass and let the sun's rays warm your body, like a soothing balm on your scarred soul.

Granted, some days were –still are- harder than others. But you patted your back for the long way you’ve come.

Your work and the neverending walks you took whenever your rushed life allowed you, have been a great pillar to your self-healing. And as you saw the few couples around you, her memory didn’t hurt you anymore.

Despite the fact Wanda had taken part of you with her, the mention of her name and her pictures of the moments you couldn't be part of didn’t tear your soul apart anymore.

And after a year and a half, you were finally able to come back home and be at peace with her looming presence in your life.

With your mind set on keep being this new –better- version of yourself, you swore that even though your heart had surrendered to Wanda forever, she could never break you again.

And where Tosh would love to go with Owen for a Date!

(Disclaimer that I was not of legal drinking age when Torchwood was airing and therefore don't have a particularly good knowledge of the early 2000s Cardiff scene, so will be partially substituting it with what I think they'd like today as well.)

Ianto is a Fuel fan. Half of that man's pay-check goes on the digital jukebox, and he will pay extra to fast-track all of his songs and make everyone else listen to the most obscure and off-the-wall rock and metal bullshit. I feel like he'd also appreciate a good live music venue, and I'm thinking The Moon more than something like Brewhouse. The Owain only does live music on Fridays, but I think you'd find him there on the occasional Thursday doing the quiz.

Now listen, I love Gwen. I do, okay? I love her, and I hate to admit it, but you'd find her in a Popworld. You would absolutely find her on the dancefloor in Popworld. Do I think she'd buy too much of the shitty merch? I do. I absolutely do. She's got about 12 Popworld branded ducks scattered around her flat. The music has permanently damaged her hearing. She's having a great time.

He's not a Torchwood team member as such but Andy would love Roxy Lanes. He'd absolutely fucking love Roxy Lanes. Give this man a cocktail and stick him in the batting cages. Let him play shuffleboard, watch him accidentally launch a bowling ball into the wrong lane. Actually I think he'd love any of the clubs where you can play games, be it something physical like Roxy Lanes and Golf Fang, or the arcade machines in NQ64. I'm also very tempted to say that he'd like Ballie Ballerson, but I think that's just wishful thinking. This man has seen The Horrors, let him in the ball pit.

Owen I think would like Ten Mill Lane. Maybe like is the wrong word actually but I do think that's probably where you'd find him. Probably not on the dancefloor though. I don't know why I've picked Ten Mill because it's not wholly in character for him, but I can just feel it in my soul. I have just realised I've been primarily listing nightclubs and not bars, but it's fine. We're fine. I think him and Tosh would go on a date to The Alchemist. I think they'd both enjoy it, because they're both pretty nerdy in that way. (For those unfamiliar, The Alchemist is a cocktail bar and restaurant where some the drinks are science-themed. They've got drinks that change colour and they do things with like, dry ice and fire and they serve them in test-tubes and distilling flasks and it's very expensive but very cool.)

I kind of don't have Tosh pinned as a nightclub person, I'm gonna be super honest with you. So again I think something like The Alchemist or The Botanist. There's a Wetherspoons in Mermaid Quay which I think would get a lot of use from all of them tbh. She'd probably also like NQ64 to be fair. I want to say one of them would like Heidi's because that's our go-to on nights out but also I can't decide which of them would like Heidi's so I guess I'm gonna give that to Tosh. But she'd definitely join Ianto in The Owain on quiz night.

I 1000% do not have Jack pinned as a nightclub guy, I do think he'd probably pick a local that's not actually local to him, somewhere like the Andrew Buchan or the Albany. I know most Spoons are kinda technically independents but I don't have him down as a Spoons guy, he'd be like a proper old man and only go to actual locals. I think he'd take Ianto on dates to The Owain, it does good food and the drink aren't too bad price-wise. They'd do the quiz, they'd probably half pay attention to the sports and Ianto would complain about the quality of the coffee machine but still order a latte with his dinner.

BurgerTime

BurgerTime, originally released as Hamburger in Japan, is a 1982 arcade video game developed by Data East, initially for its DECO Cassette System. The player is chef Peter Pepper, who must walk over hamburger ingredients in a maze of platforms and ladders while avoiding anthropomorphic hot dogs, fried eggs, and pickles which are in pursuit.

In the United States, Data East USA licensed BurgerTime for distribution by Bally Midway as a standard dedicated arcade game. Data East also released its own version of BurgerTime in the United States through its DECO Cassette System. The Data East and Midway versions are distinguished by the manufacturer's name on the title screen and by the marquee and cabinet artworks, as the game itself is identical. The game's original Japanese title Hamburger changed outside of Japan to BurgerTime, reportedly to avoid potential trademark issues. In addition to all releases in the Western world, BurgerTime also became the title used for the Japanese ports and sequels.

The first home port of BurgerTime was released for the Intellivision console in 1983, followed by versions for other systems. There have been multiple sequels for both the arcade and home.

When Data East went bankrupt in 2003, G-Mode bought most of Data East's intellectual properties, including BurgerTime, BurgerTime Deluxe, Super BurgerTime, and Peter Pepper's Ice Cream Factory.

The object of the game is to build a number of hamburgers while avoiding enemy foods. The player controls the protagonist, chef Peter Pepper, with a four-position joystick and a "pepper" button.

Each level is a maze of platforms and ladders in which giant burger ingredients (bun, meat patty, tomato, lettuce) are arranged. When Peter walks the full length of an ingredient, it falls to the level below, knocking down any ingredient that happens to be there. A burger is completed when all of its vertically aligned ingredients have been dropped out of the maze and onto a waiting plate. The player must complete all burgers to finish the board.

Three types of enemy food items wander the maze: Mr. Hot Dog, Mr. Pickle, and Mr. Egg. The player can score extra points by either crushing them under a falling ingredient or dropping an ingredient while they are on it. In the latter case, the ingredient falls two extra levels for every enemy caught on it. Crushed or dropped enemies return to the maze after a short time.

At the start of the game, the player is given a limited number of pepper shots to use against enemies. Pressing the button causes Peter to shake a cloud of pepper in the direction he is facing; any enemy touching the cloud is briefly stunned, and Peter can safely move through them. Ice cream, coffee, and French fries appear on occasion, awarding bonus points and one extra pepper shot when collected.

There are six boards of increasing difficulty, with more burgers/ingredients, more enemies, and/or layouts that make it easier for Peter to become cornered. After the player completes the sixth board, the cycle repeats. One life is lost whenever Peter touches a non-stunned enemy, and the game ends once all lives are lost.

Play It Cool - Tyson Jost (28/n)

Author's notes: Well, first, I'm doing even worse this week than last, it's nearly 4am. I have to be work in 4 hours. We'll see how this Tuesday goes. Otherwise... It's time for a roadie... the first lengthy one that Tyson's been on since AJ moved to Minnesota. It'd only been a few months since the last one, and even more than that, them living apart for weeks at a time. But it doesn't make it any easier. Also, AJ's intuition starts gnawing at her again.

As always, 3am typos are likely to happen, so I'll reread and fix in the next day or so. Thanks for sticking with me in all this!

The first win was still eluding the Wild, and Tyson was definitely trying to figure out how to elevate his game, to help his team. They had one more game at home before an extended road trip, one that he was not particularly looking forward to.

AJ wasn’t looking forward to the time apart either, but in her head, she knew that at some point things would go back to being long-distance for a few days at a time, anyway. Fortunately for her, she was realizing there were some good things about Tyson being on the road.

Staying up late.

Sleeping in.

Eating all the things that would derail Tyson’s nutritional habits. Or eating all the things he generally didn’t like.

Sprawling out in bed.

There were a handful of other things too, but AJ didn’t want to go overboard. There was the thought of heading to Denver to see Jess, but she was elbows deep in her nursing program, so that was probably out of the question. Also, AJ did still have to be a functioning adult and work in the mornings and such. So maybe 1 and 2 would at least be on the weekends, and finding out when Jess had her next break in classes would help determine that trip.

With the game against Vancouver coming up, Tyson threw himself into workouts and watching the previous games to pinpoint what went wrong for him. AJ was doing her best to help out, even if she didn’t really know what to say or do at times. Mainly, it was just listening to Tyson trying to talk through things, working the thoughts out, out loud.

What she hated though was the fact that she felt selfish that he was spending so much time working on his game, knowing that he’d be on the road for ten days soon. But AJ also knew that this is what she was signing up for when she started dating him, the idea being driven home by veteran WAGs and players alike.

Fortunately, that first win happened against Vancouver, in a thrilling overtime victory. Didn’t matter that Tyson had a relatively quiet night, he was absolutely amped. After the post-game wrap-up finished on Bally Sports, AJ’s phone started buzzing from the coffee table.

Tyson: Hey baby girl, guys are going out. But I’m thinking home.

AJ: If you want to go celebrate, it’s okay.

Tyson: I don’t think you are catching my drift. (winking emoji)

AJ: … oh my

Tyson: Home in about 30.

Realizing what was likely about to go down (oh ho!), AJ quickly took a shower, cleaning up a bit, shaving her stubbly legs and washing her face. Toweling off, she found one of Tyson’s jerseys, and threw it on over a pair of boxers she was going to sleep in. Checking herself out in front of a mirror, it didn’t even look like she was wearing anything under the sweater.

Impatiently, she waited for Tyson to get home. In her head, she was attempting to find a sexy pose for Tyson to find her in when he walked in, but she just felt awkward. Instead, waiting by the door to simply ambush him as he got inside was the new plan. AJ anxiously watched the clock on the wall, and looked at her phone, checking timestamps on the messages on her phone.

Finally, the door lock clicked. AJ couldn’t come up with a casual enough looking pose, so she just went for the door.

As the door swung open, Tyson stood in the doorway originally with a surprised face, but it morphed into him arching an eyebrow up, biting his lip as AJ saw his eyes blatantly trail from her face, down to the floor, and back up again. The teeth that were holding his bottom lip were quickly replaced by his tongue sliding over the very same lip. Something about her wearing his jersey like that set off a fire inside him. He took a few strides into the apartment, shutting the door quickly behind him.

“You look good in green,” Tyson’s eyes were full of mischief, pupils large and dark.

Fighting the flush on her cheeks, AJ took a step toward Tyson, grabbing the lapels of his suit jacket, pulling him toward her. He found that her eyes were just as dark and it added fuel to that fire. Leaning down, Tyson’s lips found AJ’s, and the two stayed connected as they both fumbled to get his jacket off, followed by unbuttoning the shirt underneath. He had kicked his slacks off before they made it to the bedroom.

AJ squealed as Tyson picked her up and gently tossed her onto the bed, him following close behind. She rolled over to put her phone on the nightstand. He stopped to admire his name and number on her back, thinking about what was (or wasn’t) under it all. The tiny hint of shorts under the jersey caused a minor short circuit in his brain, and all Tyson could think about was taking them off but keeping the jersey on.

Grabbing one of her feet, AJ shrieked in fear he might start tickling her, but he had other plans. Lips lightly grazed the skin of the top of her foot, causing her to shudder, in a good way. Tyson looked up toward her face with a similar look of surprise that graced her face as she gasped.

“Did I just find a new spot that we didn’t know about?” Tyson smirked, then continued to let his lips wander over AJ’s ankle, and up the inside of her calf.

Breathing becoming erratic, AJ couldn’t contain the whimper that spilled out without warning. Between the warm, soft touch of Tyson’s lips and the contrast of the fuzziness of his scruff against her skin, her eyes pleaded with his to stop the slow tease he was pulling off. AJ could even feel his lips curl into a grin as he continued his torturous pace up and over her knee. For some reason her skin just seemed more sensitive than it normally was, and he loved seeing her unraveling just from simple kisses, her fingers tangling into the sheets.

It’d been a minute since Tyson had seen AJ this way. The couple had been so focused on the mental aspect of each other, that the physical side of things had been pushed away a bit. The timing hadn’t been right.

But it was right now, especially knowing that he was leaving for the roadie the next afternoon, and wouldn’t have the chance to touch her for the next ten days. The night was all about AJ, prolonging the inevitable departure in the morning. Tyson was quite proud of just how riled up he managed to get her, and with a little help, was able to witness her letting go of all control multiple times.

The two made some memories that night, and as if the memories weren’t going to be enough of a reminder, a few new bruises littered their skin from overzealous kissing. Luckily, they were all in places that typical clothing and/or hockey gear would cover, but in places that while getting dressed or in the shower that were easily seen - little reminders of their night. As they’d fade, it meant they were that much closer to being together again. Tyson did make mental notes about the spot on the top of AJ’s foot that set the wheels in motion, and AJ was already plotting for the next time she’d surprise him, ONLY wearing the jersey.

With the adrenaline of the wins (on and off the ice) wearing off for Tyson, and the utter exhaustion had by AJ, the two curled up, after she shed the jersey. Finding their ground in curling up, skin pressed against skin, he heard the soft snores coming from AJ. He soon followed down the same path.

The morning alarm came way too early. Optional skate was a thing for Tyson, and he knew he couldn’t miss it. He was starting to feel some pressure as a couple of guys were called up from Iowa. And straight from practice, the team was slated to head to Boston.

It was a tough “see you later” - an emotional “I’ll text you when we land.” This would be the longest the two had been apart since AJ moved to Minneapolis. Remembering the list of things she had looked forward to doing while Tyson was gone didn’t stop the tears from falling from her eyes as he held her tight, kissing her forehead.

The two finally pried apart, knowing Tyson couldn’t be late. Heading along I-94 to TRIA Rink, he too was fighting the tears he was trying to be strong enough to hold back earlier. Letting a few out, he felt better, especially after texting from the dressing room at the rink.

Tyson: Love you Eggo. Try not to miss me too much. I’ll text you before we take off.

AJ smiled at the noti on her watch as she was replacing an imaging unit in a printer. With the flight leaving at 2pm, she planned her text to hit around 1:30, before takeoff.

AJ: Here’s a little something for you to listen to while you’re traveling around, a little something to remind you I’m thinking of you. Love you too babe (Spotify link)

Tyson hurriedly opened the link, and looked at the playlist, smiling at the title.

Downloading the playlist to his phone before takeoff, he put on his headphones and pulled his hoodie down over his face, waiting to fall asleep to the playlist AJ had made him. Mind you, Tyson’s and AJ’s musical tastes are VASTLY different, but they were both trying to find some common ground. But this time, this playlist was pure AJ and her music taste chaos. But there were definitely some themes woven into the tracks.

Tyson being Tyson, he passed out quickly on the plane and missed most of the playlist. But he fell asleep to it that night, and listened to it while showering the next morning after morning skate. He found a few songs in there he liked, and added them to his own Liked Songs list. He found himself humming a few of them in the locker room with a smile on his face.

Unfortunately after the previous win in OT, the Wild lost in OT against Boston. The team took it pretty hard, but at least they got a point out of it. But the flipside was that they were traveling to Montreal early, and spending a handful of days there, rather than traveling back and forth so often. While AJ would have preferred Tyson being home, it was far less stressful on the team, with less jetlag, to stay out and about.

When they weren’t in practice, they all ventured out and explored, visiting friends and seeing sights. Tyson constantly was sending photos and texts about his adventures to AJ, with most of them saying “I wish you were here to see this with me,” or “Next time, you’re coming out with me and we’re eating here.”

AJ simply sent photos of the things she was doing back home, regular routine stuff. Boring in comparison, really. But he still appreciated the glimpses of home. Calls before bed were a thing again, and the occasional attempt at phone sex and sexting. It just wasn’t quite the same as the real thing, and knowing these two, it ended up in some traded photos trying to be sexy but took a hard left and were just silly instead.

The Montreal game was a win, and not even in OT this time around. But there was something gnawing at AJ’s intuition with the game. Tyson had been put on fourth line, and didn’t even break ten minutes of ice time. She didn’t say anything about it when they talked, figuring if it wasn’t bothering him, it shouldn’t bother her.

The team traveled to Ottawa the next day via train, instead of flying. It was a beautiful day, and the team was in good spirits for the trip. Guys were able to relax a bit, playing card games, some read as the countryside sped by.

And then there was Tyson, hoodie pulled over his face, headphones in.

Tyson: Getting ready for a nap on the train. Miss you baby, so much. Text you when we. Not when we land. When we get to the station. (heart emoji)

AJ: Sweet dreams babe (kiss emoji)

Tyson slept the entire trip, waking up to her playlist somewhere on repeat number three, coincidentally on the Rolling Stones’ Miss You. He screenshotted the song playing and sent it back to her, showing it was indeed from her playlist as well. It made her musical heart happy that he was still listening to it. They talked on the phone a bit that night, but called it an early night as he was an hour ahead, plus had practice early to loosen up the legs before the game that night.

AJ still felt like something was off. Her suspicions were confirmed with the announcement that both Tyson and Goligoski were scratches for the night. She was angry, but it was out of her hands, nothing she could say, do, or feel, was going to change it. However she didn’t even bother watching the game. Instead, fired up Fortnite, and played a few matches, texting Nate to see if he was in. Unfortunately he had a game the next day and was already preparing for bed.

(Author’s note: I wish I had that sort of self control. It’s.. 2:58AM right now, and I have to be at work in 5 hours!)

Letting her emotions get the best of her, AJ truthfully wished the Wild would lose, because Tyson wasn’t playing. Un/Fortunately, they did win, 4-2. The texts were short that night, especially as they were an hour ahead still, and flying into Detroit. But he didn’t mention the scratch being upsetting to him, so she was trying to play the same card. Tyson did tell her he would text when he landed but didn’t want to wake her up, no response needed.

AJ was wired still when the text came in, saying he was heading to the hotel. She snapped a photo of a fading bruise on the inside of her thigh, near her knee, sending it in a text.

AJ: It’s almost gone, can’t wait for you to be back. (Photo)

AJ: However maybe not so many next time, they’re a little sore (kiss emoji)

Tyson: (evil imp)

After some sleep, the team headed to morning skate, and afterward was an interview with Evason. Someone questioned Tyson’s scratch status.

“It could have been anyone, it was just his turn this time.”

While the response should have made AJ feel better, it did nothing to make the negative feeling in her gut go away. It compounded when it was announced both he and Goligoski were scratched AGAIN for a second game in a row.

AJ was livid at this point, and felt stupid for feeling that way when again, there was nothing she could do to fix it. But what was upsetting her was that this was supposed to be Tyson’s chance to have that fresh start that he missed out on with the Avalanche. Play with a mixture of players that would challenge him. He was promised that chance for ice time, to get to play on special teams more, to show why he was the 10th pick overall his draft year. To AJ, he was getting the Avs treatment all over again.

She didn’t even have a chance to compose a text, not that she knew what to say anyway because her words wouldn’t form a coherent sentence as upset as she was - Tyson already had.

Tyson: Watching the game tonight?

AJ: No.. I… this… fuck I don’t even know what I want to say.

Tyson: I need to work harder. Gotta show them I belong here. It was the wake up I needed. It’ll be okay. Just trust the process, k? And I need you to be part of it.

It was hard for AJ to come up with anything really in response. Her heart hurt for him.

AJ: I’m not going anywhere.

Instead of watching the game, AJ actually decided sleep sounded good.

The game was a 2-1 loss. The flight to Chicago after the game was quiet, which was good, they needed the rest, going into a back to back. From the hotel, Tyson snapped a photo of his collarbone, the faintest of marks showing in the photo, and sent it to AJ.

Tyson: Almost gone, but I’ll see you tomorrow night. Perfect timing. (photo)

Tyson: You’re probably asleep, so I hope you’re having the sweetest dreams. Of me lol (heart emoji)

AJ woke up super late with a migraine, but the photo and message brought a smile to her face. (Followed by her getting some caffeine and meds, and heading back to bed for a bit longer.) After a couple more hours of sleep, her phone buzzed with notifications from the Wild showing lines for the game - with it came a wave of at least temporary relief - Tyson was playing against Chicago. Feeling a little silly, AJ drew a sign on a piece of paper, nothing flirty, but a sign for Tyson nonetheless, as she couldn’t be there.

LET’S FUCKING GO JOSTY!

AJ sent the sign via text, and received a video clip in response:

Opening the file, Tyson kissed his knuckles, then bumped his phone screen with them, “See you tonight babe, LET’S GOOOO!”

There was something different about Tyson that night. He definitely was trying harder. And he seemed grittier… which wasn’t his style, but he was trying to prove a point. A few hits landed their intended target. But late in the third, a Wild player got hit awkwardly in front of the bench, right next to Tyson… and he didn’t take it well. He checked Patrick Kane, but the timing was off, and was called for boarding. But before that even could be deciphered, Max Domi skated up to Tyson, and they squared off.

AJ watched in horror as Domi pulled him to the ice, and then wouldn’t let go. The two linesmen were on top of both of them, trying to pull them apart, one of them clearly still hanging on. (It wasn’t Tyson, I can tell you that much.) After all was said and done, Tyson got two for boarding Kane, and five for fighting. Domi was bounced after an instigating minor, a fighting major, and a game misconduct for the incident. Tyson skated to the box with a grin on his face as he ran his fingers through his hair before replacing his helmet.

The breath that AJ didn’t know she was holding finally made its presence known as she gasped, feeling the relief that he was okay. She knew Tyson wasn’t a fighter, but he still tried. And maybe it was the spark the team needed - they went into OT, and ended up winning the shootout.

It was a sweet way to end the road trip and head back home. Finally at the airport, Tyson’s phone started buzzing with notifications, mainly from AJ.

AJ: TYSON WHAT ARE YOU DOING

AJ: NOT THE FACE!! NOT THE FAAAACE!

AJ: FUCK DOMI, FUCK HIM UP BABE

AJ: I DON’T KNOW WHY I AM YELLING IN ALL CAPS

AJ: OKAY GOOD YOU’RE ALRIGHT

AJ: Ngl that was kinda hot though (water drip emoji)

Tyson chuckled as he tapped a message back.

Tyson: Be home in a couple hours, can’t wait.

Tyson: Love you babe

AJ: Can’t wait either, I’m still a little *rowr* from the fight. Come to bed when you get home (winking emoji)

Tyson: You wearin my jersey? (evil imp emoji)

It’s time for this week’s Horrible-Scopes! So for those of you that know your Astrological Signs, cool! If not, just pick one, roll a D12, or just make it up as you go along. After some work and research, we’re FINALLY getting to the theme suggested before: using OTHER than Atari 2600 games. Well, never let it be said we didn’t try. So this week we’re looking at the 2nd generation of home game consoles, but we’re leaving Atari2600 out.

Described as “The Home Console Nobody Remembers”, you’re getting the machine that beat the Atari to the marketplace: the Fairchild Channel F. It had a price tag of over $800 today and a lackluster game selection - although it had several games hardcoded into the unit. AND it was the system that brought “TV Powww” gaming to after school kids with a phone. This week… You’re the first one ready to take on a job. If you don’t excel at it you’re gunna get overshadowed. So get to work!

Taurus

You’re getting the ColecoVision - a machine that, honestly, how it didn’t get sued by Mattel for copying the controller design is beyond us. Having the first home version of Donkey Kong and Zaxxon couldn’t overshadow the blight that was the Adam: the THIRD expansion for the device to turn it into a full-on computer. One problem with it was the power supply destroying any magnetic media in close proximity every time it was turned on. So This Week… figure out a way to have your coffee made before you’ve even stepped foot out of bed.

There’s a lot that can be said about your system and its premier game. Welcome to the world of the Magnavox Odyssey 2, aka the Philips Videopac G7000 in Europe! The joysticks looked like something used to remotely pilot a Space: 1999 Eagle and the keyboard on the unit was a horrible plastic dimple system that no amount of training could make a touch-typist happy. And as far as games go, well… the less we talk about “Attack of the Timelord!” the better. This week… just remember that you’re not the bottom of the list in anything, just like the Odyssey! IGN named the Odyssey 2 the 21st greatest video game console, out of its list of 25. So you’ve got THAT going for you.

We’re pretty sure you’ve NEVER heard of this console before: the Arcadia 2001 released by Emerson Radio. And before you think, well this can’t be THAT bad, right? The unrelated Arcadia Corporation, manufacturer of the Atari 2600 Supercharger add-on, was sued by Emerson for trademark infringement. Arcadia Corporation then changed its name to Starpath, proving that Emerson, once upon a time ago, was a Feared Company Brand. This Week… I mean, we don’t know what you want from us. The console was discontinued after 18 months, so how about… don’t make any long-term plans right now?

Also from the dregs of the Barely Known, you’ve gotten the Bally Astrocade… aka the Bally Arcade aka the Bally ABA-1000 aka the Bally Professional Arcade. The keen-eared might have wondered, “Wait - is that the same company that made Bally-Midway Pinball Machines?” Well, actually, yes. But they did a lot of arcade video games too - like Space Invaders! And yes, they DID make a home game version of it, but ended up calling it “Astro Battle” for some reason. So This Week… if you fail at something, just change your name and try again. Just don’t expect any improvements until you change yourself.

Virgo

Hate to do this to you, Virgo, but we’ve been secretly rolling a D20 behind the scenes. And guess what? You got the Nat1. So… you’re not getting a notable console. You’re not getting an unrecognizable console. You’re getting saddled with one of the worst games and its resulting aftermath: the Atari2600 game “E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial”. Some of you knew this was coming, didn’t you? Back in the day there were rumors that a secret shipment of these cursed games were buried and concreted over in the hopes that they’d never see the light of day again. And on April 26, 2014, remnants of E.T. games were found, confirming this story. So just like the game back in the day, we blame YOU, Virgo, for all the crap that’s happened to the world since 2014! Thanks a lot! Don’t roll a “1” again!

There are only a handful of game consoles that came complete with their own 9-inch CRT Display. So you’re a unique winner this week with the Vectrex. Originally produced by General Consumer Electronics and later licensed to Milton Bradley, it used vector graphics to draw lines on a CRT display, not unlike many arcade games like Asteroids, which was included in the base system under the name “Mine Storm”! And as a surprise to everyone, one of the special accessories for it was a Light Pen to “draw” on the screen. They wanted to make a color version but plans were shelved because a better unit came along to claim that niche of the market: The Game Boy! So This Week… someone younger, smaller, and more power efficient is looking to take your job from you. Don’t Let Them!

We finally get to the Big Daddy Competitor to Atari, the Mattel Intellivision. It had its flaws, sure, but in SO many ways it was the superior system to the rest of the pack. You could get a full computer add-on, a speech synthesizer, an Atari2600 game cartridge and joystick adapter, a 49 piano key music synthesizer, and the PlayCable, allowing cable TV companies to send playable games to connected systems on a subscription service! This week… You are light years ahead of everyone around you but your self-promotion skills are for crap. Study some online courses to improve your game.

Sagittarius

It’s likely you’ve never heard of this machine for various reasons. The Interton Video Computer 4000 aka the Interton VC 4000 was released in Germany, England, France, Spain, Austria, the Netherlands, and Australia by the German hearing aid manufacturer Interton. The weird part about it is that no one knows if they developed it themselves or licensed the technology, since a number of clone compatible systems are out there. This Week… keep track of your sales receipts. You’re going to need to look back on what you bought.

Capricorn

We promised not to talk about the Atari 2600 system for this list. So, with a huge nod to the nice subreddit group, “R-slash-TechnicallyCorrect”, you’ve been, and we’re using this term VERY loosely… “Gifted”... the Atari 5200! Yes. A game console that was hardly more than the 2600 on the inside, but with an incompatible cartridge connection port and vastly inferior joysticks, it was supposed to bring sales back from the losses of the Console Market Crash, but it was just a poor stepping stone to the soon-to-be-released Atari 7800. This week… Don’t try to bamboozle people with half-step promises. Just commit to the bit and surprise everyone with how good you can really be.

Aquarius

We want you to enjoy this product, because it might be possible to bring it back in a fun way. Yours is the RCA Studio II: a very simple product that was obsolete pretty much as soon as it was sold. It plugged into your TV, made “some” sounds, produced black-and-white images, and instead of any controllers per-say, it used a ten-button keypad for two players directly on the unit. Here’s the thing: imagine this product being changed from being barely a game machine, into a specialized two-handed controller! Who needs a mouse and keyboard when you could have just… a keyboard controller in your lap! But with RGB and tilt controls and vibrations. So This Week… if you DO prototype this product, don’t play-test it in public with the “Buttplug-dot-io” system enabled.

We know the only reason why you’re getting this machine is because of the name. Produced by VTech, it had MANY aliases. It was known as: the Educat 2002, as well as The Dick Smith Wizzard, the FunVision Computer Video Games System, the Hanimex Rameses, and the VZ 2000. ALL of those names were official and sold in various markets. We know you don’t care what games it had, you just want to collect one of each of them, don’t you? Well then This Week… get your passport in order ‘cause you fly out to South Africa at the end of the month!
