@kiwwles you sent me an ask about fics I recommend, and I was trying to save the answer as a draft and the whole ask disappeared 🥲 I don't know if it got deleted or if I answered it privately, but since it appears all traces of it are gone, I will try to recreate it here, because I worked on it for a while and I don't know why tumblr is like this

AnYwAy, I chose two fics per category, from four categories: DPxDC, DP only, Batman (+ DC), and Other. I focused on DP/DC because I figure if you like IYGABAB, you might want to read more from those fandoms.

Vacation Crashers by @impyssadobsessions

Batman crashes in the wilderness following up a lead in a recent case.

Meanwhile the Fenton family was having a camping trip to celebrate Jazz's last year as a "kid", but considering who suggested the location, it spelt disaster.

Now Danny and Jazz have to survive an onslaught of ghosts, take care of an injured Batman, and while worrying about their parents.

This was the first DPxDC crossover fic I ever read; I saw Impy_'s art from this fic and I just had to know more, and now I'm happily tumbling down the rabbit hole into the wonderland that is the Danny Phantom/Batman crossover verse. Vacation Crashers is the first in a series, which is the best news ever ^w^ 10/10 recommendation!

Bat Ghost by @megaerakles

Bruce is attacked by the ghost of Batman from the future. To get to the bottom of it, he pays a visit to some prominent ghost hunters, and happens to encounter a teenaged half-ghost vigilante (?), who just *happens* to resemble Damian. A lot.

On an unrelated note, Tim Drake has done nothing wrong.

I love fics where the Batfam goes to Amity Park. It's always a good time to watch them out of their element and adapt accordingly. This is a particularly enjoyable rendition, and it's still updating, too!

DP only

Exhumed by Marsalias

AU where Danny left behind half his physical body when he half-died. (AKA Corpse AU.)

Marsalias is one of my favorite DP writers, hands down. I really love the Exhumed series in particular, though; the world-building is excellent, the OCs are wonderful, and the writing is skillful.

Trust Your Instincts by @peachdoxie

A new kind of danger threatens Amity Park. With no other leads, Maddie Fenton turns to the one individual that might be able to help: Danny Phantom. Meanwhile, after a near death experience, she begins to question everything she knows about ghosts.

Excellent Maddie-centric fic where a near-death experience forces her to confront her own prejudices and misconceptions around ghosts, as well as the failings of her own scientific hubris. Currently on hiatus, but this fic was my obsession this past spring. Features cool OCs, interesting ecto-science, and lots of heartfelt/heartwrenching conversations.

Batman only

Loading and Aspect Ratio by Jube514

A world where nobody has wings, but people think they do, and that changes everything. (A Batfam Wingfic with a twist)

An excellent twist on the wingfic trope that really suits Batman. Features a Good Dad!Bruce who leans into the misconception that Batman is a cryptid because a)it's funny and b) it's convenient.

Take It Back Now, Y'all by Timthetoaster

(In which Tim finds himself in the past, and tries to do the right thing. It's more complicated than he'd like.)

Tim Drake being a bad-ass, accidental time travel, attempted fix-it. What's not to love?

Taako is The Winter Soldier and Lup is Captain America AU

This is one of the best stories I've ever read, hands down. I've read it about four times *at least*. Even if you are not familiar with The Adventure Zone or The Winter Soldier (MCU), it's written so well that you can enjoy it without context.

What happens if the Magnus Institute gets a Data Protection Officer? What's it like to work in Tech Support? How are employee reviews conducted when your manager is Peter Lukas? This series does its best to answers these sorts of hard-hitting questions about office life at the Institute.

If you aren't familiar with The Magnus Archives it might be a bit hard to follow, but this epistolary fic has some of the best CSS coding and humor I've ever seen.

Anyway picking just a few was really difficult because I read a lot! I think every fic I've ever read has affected me in some way. But these are some of the ones most special to me. I hope you enjoy them!

Work was killer this week, so the list is a bit shorter than usual. What I did manage to read was still very excellent though!

Batburgers, head trauma, and little brothers by Speechless_since_1998 - Batfam, complete. Little Timmy rescues Robin from a trashcan. This calls for some Batburgers :)

Star Tied by Imagine_sleeping - Superbat, wip. An AU were Krypton still exists and Kal-El travels to Earth to find his soulmate.

Magpie Syndrome by a_very_smolfrog - Superbat, complete. A reread for me! Clark finds shiny things that he MUST give to Bruce.

Patchwork Pod by Ktkat9 - Superbat and Batfam, wip. More of the mer Bruce fic! Bruce is still recovering from his injuries and the family ponders why Trigon is the way he is.

here as I am by TheResurrectionist - SladeBru, complete. There was chatter recently on Tumblr about this fic so I had to read it again. Bruce needs to go the fuck to sleep. Tim comes up with a solution.

pristine by pomeloquat - Superbat, complete. Bruce gets hit with a fuck or die curse, which is especially bad for him because he is a virgin. If only there was someone who could help him in the situation. If only 😔

lol I’m sure you’re getting a lot of these, but as a once-MCU-only fan turned Marvel-and-DC comics fan, I think I can offer some guidance.

I’m going to answer some of your questions first, then give you some starting point recs.

There are 6 kids that officially have lived in Wayne Manor with Bruce as their parent, Dick, Jason, Tim, Cass, Damian, Duke.

Duke is the only one I’m not sure the status on adoption or not, definitely foster at a point, but his parents are technically alive as far as I know, so not sure the adoption legalities there.

Duke is also the ONLY META in the batfamily.

There are 5 robins, you got that and the order right. But, Jason was actually adopted before Dick was, Dick was adopted as an adult- he was legally Bruce’s ward when he lived in the manor, but lbr they were already father and son then.

Minor qualm but yes, Jason did take a dip in magic water (the Lazarus pit) but technically what brought him back to life was an angry fanboy literally punching the universe to the point where it shattered and Messed Things Up (happy to explain more if you want).

Tim Drake did not begin as an orphan, that is correct, but how he became Robin is actually super fun. He as an 8-year-old discovered the identities of Batman and Robin (he recognized Dick Grayson’s Robin do a move only the Flying Graysons were able to do, and put the pieces together from there). He then saw Batman was Not Doing Well mentally after Jason died (aka becoming more aggressive, caring less about his personal safety, etc.) and decided that “Batman needs a Robin” and volunteered himself.

Tim ran WE for some time when Bruce was believed dead, I believe he then became majority shareholder.

Tim, Dick and Jason do not in canon become airheads, and unfortunately Brucie Wayne is more of a fanon thing than a canon thing in the way you are describing it (aka The Superior Way it Should Be in canon). Comic writers treat Brucie Wayne more like an MCU-Tony-Stark-esque playboy.

Cass is the second Batgirl (third if you count Bette but most people don’t), between Barbara and Stephanie. See that link above for more details. She was Black Bat for a time after, and now is Orphan.

The JL actually don’t think Batman works alone! That’s just a fun fanon trope that is not canon compliant.

Yes, any Green Lantern is essentially allergic to the color yellow.

The internet is divided because canon is divided. Most will choose to simply ignore bad Batdad, others will argue it’s important to the characters. Personal preference there.

If I’m not mistaken, #OnlyInGotham is a fanon thing.

Sure, I like Australian NYC, but I much prefer New Jersey if it went off the deep end (because Gotham is widely considered to be in New Jersey)

There’s actually a fascinating history about Deadpool here. Deadpool was created by Marvel in part as a very obvious parody to DC’s Deathstroke. Deadpool is Wade Wilson, Deathstroke is Slade Wilson. I can’t make this up. Comics are awesome.

In the comics, Dick Grayson is primarily associated with Teen Titans, and Tim Drake is primarily associated with Young Justice. Both shows’ original Robins are Dick Grayson, though. (YJ does eventually incorporate the next two Robins as Dick becomes Nightwing).

Batburger is real and canon.

Now for recs:

The most fanon-y way to start is Wayne Family Adventures on Webtoon. That’s how I got started.

To get a more full sense of the DC Universe, watch Young Justice. It deviates a lot from the comics in many respects, but is incredibly comics-accurate in others.

Super Sons is a great comic. It’s about Damian and his best friend Jon Kent, Superboy.

Tom Taylor’s Nightwing is a personal favorite, but wait to start that until you have at least read WFA.

I had a nice stretch of PTO this week, so I got some good fic reading in (along with a lot of birding and an 8 mile hike, LOL). I also hope all of you have been enjoying some of the lovely Superbat art coming out of NYCC BECAUSE I HAVE.

Anyway, on to the fics!

Losing You by starshotplagues - Superbat, complete. I remember reading this fic when I first started reading Superbat fics. I've wanted to reread it for a while now, but I couldn't find it UNTIL NOW. I was so pleased :) A get together fic featuring these two learning how to communicate.

a world in repair by Batbirdies - Batfam, complete. Jason and Damian try to go on a vacation/road trip together, but hidden injuries and feelings cause a few road bumps. They work on it though, Bruce helps too :) Part of the Emotional Motion Sickness series.

a song came after by susiecarter - Superbat, complete. Bruce was trapped in a simulation where he was married to Clark, and deals with not being in the simulation anymore. Much feelings are had afterwards.

Padam Padam by frozenpotions - Superbat, complete. A fic based off this Tumblr post. A delight to read from beginning to end.

Red Hood's Barbie Dream House by Sparkypants - Batfam, complete. Jason gets shrunk to the size of a barbie. Shenanigans ensue.

Welcome to Batburger, home of the Batburger, can I take your order please? by Sparkypants - Batfam, complete. Bruce doesn't like Batburger, but his kids love it. Bruce loves his kids, so he goes to Batburger.

A Meditation on Railroading by eggmacguffin - Batfam, complete. Tim has A Bad Time with Jack in Atlanta and travels back to Gotham by himself. Much shenanigans and many family feels ensue.

borderline by TheResurrectionist - Batfam, wip. The most recent update to this fic had me by the THROAT. And there's one more chapter left!!!! And it looks like there is going to be a series too!!!

I'm a Good Pretender series by shipNslash - Batfam, complete. A FANTASTIC series about Battinson taking in Dick as a ward. Bruce is his socially awkward self, and Dick is delightfully (and manipulatively) charming. They learn how to trust each other and become a family. The next fic in the series is from Jim Gordan's POV, and the third has Jason! I devoured this series in an afternoon, it was so good!
