Behold! A comprehensive list of the Dark Lords' names
So i suddenly felt inspired to collect all of Melkor's & Mairon's names (and as we know there's A LOT) in one place. i might or might not do something like this for other many-named characters
Included: early and/or abandoned names; name meanings
Not included: titles (e.g. Melkor = The Enemy), fan names (e.g. Valarin names for them)
Languages featured: Quenya (Q), Sindarin (S), Early Quenya (EQ), Middle Quenya (MQ), Gnomish (G) (Gnomes = Noldor), Noldorin (N), Early Noldorin (EN), Primitive Elvish (PE), Middle Primitive Elvish (MPE), Adûnaic (A), Black Speech (BS)
(btw "Early" or "Middle" in the language name refers to a period in Tolkien's life while "Primitive Elvish" means an actual in-universe language of the early elves)
Tumblr media
The Melkor group
Melkor (Q) - "He who arises in Might", "Mighty Arising".
Variations:
Melcor (Q); Melkórë (Q);
Melko (Q) - here are some alternative meanings - in EQ Melko is connected to the root "fire, flame", in MQ - to the root "greed, lust";
Belegûr (S); Belchur (S);
Belegurth (S) - this is Belegûr altered to mean "Great Death", basically the intention behind this name is the same as with Morgoth, but coming from Sindar;
Belcha also Belca/Belc/Belcon/Balc (G) - supposed to contain the root "fire, flame";
Belegor/Melegor (EN);
Maileg (EN), Maeleg/Moeleg (N) - supposed to contain the root "greed, lust";
Mbelekōre/Mbelekōro (PE) - this one should be the earliest (in-universe) elvish name for Melkor;
Mailikō also Mailikā/Mailikōr (MPE) - contains the root "greed, lust";
Mēlekō (A);
Mulk(h)êr (A) - it looks like a loan word from Melkor (Q), but it is said to mean "Lord of Darkness" in Adûnaic - compare to Kherû (A).
The Morgoth group
Morgoth (S) - "Black Foe, Dark Foe, Black Enemy", however it is "Black Strife" in Gnomish and "Dark Power, Black God" in Noldorin.
Variations:
Morngoth (N);
Morikotto also Morñot/Morños (Q);
Moriñgotho also Moringotto/Moriñgothŏ/Morñoþŏ (PE) - honestly, the name Moriñgotho existing in PE doesn't make much sense to me if we follow the story of Fëanor giving Melkor that name, as primitive Elvish was spoken only by pre-Valinor elves. so either it's a theoretic name or there's some alternative lore;
Delu-Morgoth/Delimorgoth (EN) - "horrible, loathly" + "Black Strife";
Goth (BS) - ok this one is really funny so i include it. so what happened here is that there is an entry which translates the name Gothmog as "Voice of Goth", also stating that Goth = Morgoth and Goth is his "Orc-name" that means "lord or master". Morgoth in this interpretation means "Dark Lord". also "goth" meaning "lord or master" is a legit word in Black Speech.
Other
Bauglir (S) - "Constrainer", in Noldorin also "Terrible"; Baugron (S) - same meaning;
Yelur also Yeloimu/Yeloisu/Yeliomu/Yelusto (EQ) - contains the root "cold";
Geluim also Gieluim/Gelum/Gelodh/Deluth (G) - "Ice" - this name was meant to work with Belcha (G) to represent both elemental sides of Melkor, fire and ice;
Uduvrin (G) - "Hell-lord"; Utumnas (EQ) - connected to Utumno;
Alfando (EQ), Flanthog/Flandrog (G) - "Scornful";
Ulban(d) (EQ) - "Monster";
Angien (EQ), Angainos (G) - "Iron-god" (not connected to Angainor the chain!);
Alkar (MQ) - "Radiant";
Morion (MQ) - "the Dark One", in EQ "Son of the Dark";
Kherû (A), Arûn (A) - "Lord", the latter also used with Mulkhêr (Arûn-Mulkhêr).
Bonus: Old English
Malscor - connected to the word "bewitching, bewildering"; Mánfréa - connected to the word "evil, wickedness"; Orgel - "Pride"; Bróga - "Terror"; Sweart-ós - "Dark God"; Bolgen - "Wrathful".
Tumblr media
The Sauron group
Sauron (Q) - "Abhorred"/"Cruel", also "Foul-smelling" (an older meaning).
Variations:
Thauron(d) (PE);
Sauro (MQ); Sûr/Súro (MQ);
Thû also Thuon/Thū (S, N, EN) - fun fact, Tolkien considered using this name for Manwë, then it would be derived from the root "blow", but for Sauron it was derived from the root "stench";
Morthu (N) - "Black Stench";
Gorthû (N) - "Fear Stench";
Gorthaur also Gorsodh (S) - "Mist of Fear", in Silmarillion - "The Cruel", literal translation - "abominable" + "horror";
Norsus (Q) - same as Gorthaur.
Other
Mairon (Q) - "Admirable", also Tar-Mairon (Q) - "King Excellent";
Zigûr (A) - "Wizard";
Annatar (Q) - "Lord of Gifts", Artano (Q) - "High-smith", Aulendil (Q) - "Servant of Aulë"/"Friend of Aulë" - all three used as disguise names in Eregion.
Bonus: Old English
Saweron; Malsca - connected to the root "bewitching, bewildering", compare to Malscor.

That's about it, i think.

Evolution of Ski-Lifts
Modern day skiers and winter sport enthusiasts demand comfort and advanced gear / technology. Up until the early 1900s, skiers didn’t even have anything to carry them uphill. ‍ The ski lifts and ropeways were built in the early 1900s, but they were mostly the drag lifts or surface lifts. The aerial lifts were built many years later. The first ski lift was built in 1908 by Robert Winterhalder in Germany.
Bolgen lifts were the first to successfully transport people using ski lifts with bars to cling. They first designed J-bars that transported 1 person, and then replaced it with T-bars which carried 2 people.
The Rope Tow is known to be the first ski-lift and it was built in 1934 by Robert Royce in Vermont. It is a rope with a motor that can take you uphill when you hold it. Holding tight the rope with the hands till reaching the destination doesn’t seem to be very comfortable. Then came the Magic Carpets Ski-lifts. It is basically a kind of conveyor belt that takes you uphill and is used mainly for small or beginner slopes. There were also covered magic carpets that safeguard you during cold windy weather.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Even though there are many advanced ski lifts systems, T-Bars are the most commonly used ski lifts for exploring the alps. Unlike Aerial lifts, the skiers can get down from the T-Bar ski lifts even before reaching the hilltop/destination as per their wish. Apart from that, it is one of the most economical solution for beginners who wanted to practice on small slopes.
Boardie offers most ergonomic, comfortable and cost-effective T-Bar Ski lifts.

Asics GEL-NIMBUS™ 25
Tumblr media
According to Asics
ASICS is announcing the launch of the GEL-NIMBUS™ 25 running shoes, the most comfortable running shoe*, designed to help everyone experience the uplifting power of running on the body and mind. Rated by runners as the number 1 in comfort in an independent test by The Biomechanics Lab in South Australia, the GEL-NIMBUS™ 25 offers more cushioning and softer landings for the most comfortable running experience.
The GEL-NIMBUS™ 25 features new PureGEL™ technology which is softer than previous GEL™ technology, creating the softest landings to date. The PureGEL™ technology which is not visible from the outside is strategically integrated in the midsole to deliver enhanced shock absorption and smoother transitions.
Designed to provide improved underfoot comfort, the shoe comes with new lightweight and energetic FF BLAST™ PLUS ECO cushioning, featuring 20% more foam compared to previous iterations. The foam is made from at least 20% bio-based material from renewable sources such as leftover waste from sugar case processing.
A new soft, yet breathable and stretchy knit tongue and collar construction deliver an easier step-in and a more adaptive fit, helping the shoe to feel like an extension of the foot and make each stride more comfortable and smooth.
Laura Bolgen, Senior Manager Global Product Line, Performance Running Footwear at ASICS said: “Following ASICS design philosophy, we use athlete wear testing, biomechanical research, sustainable methods and decades of craftmanship to create products that feel best for both body and mind. For the development of the GEL-NIMBUS™ 25, we set the bar very high. We knew that our ambitious goal of 'creating the most comfortable running shoe' was one that would require even more design and development work as well as internal and external testing and consumer validation. As a team, we’re incredible proud of what we’ve been able to accomplish throughout the 18+ months of tireless development work, and we hope that every runner will feel the difference that this uniquely comfortable GEL-NIMBUS™ model has to offer.”
Independent comfort test by The Biomechanics Lab, South Australia.
ASICS Global commissioned Dr Chris Bishop PhD from The Biomechanics Lab in South Australia to design and deliver an independent study to compare the comfort of the new GEL-NIMBUS™ 25 shoe to three leading competitor shoes and its predecessor, the GEL-NIMBUS™ 24. The research study explored three primary research questions, including, most importantly: Is the GEL-NIMBUS™ 25 a more comfortable running shoe than the four comparator shoes tested?
100 runners (52 men, 48 women) were recruited for this study, which took place over an eight-week period. Study participants ran in all five pairs of shoes which were made to be completely unrecognizable, so no brand or design biases came into effect. The test participants had to run on an instrumented treadmill at a pace of 10km/hour for three minutes, and were asked to rate the comfort of each shoe based on various comfort related criteria, including heel cushioning, forefoot cushioning, shoe stability and forefoot flexibility.
An independent statistical analysis of the results using three different measurement models was conducted and the results were clear: The GEL-NIMBUS™ 25 was rated as the number one in comfort.
Dr Chris Bishop PhD, podiatrist and adjunct research fellow at the University of South Australia explained: “Comfort is a perception factor which is not a biomechanical variable and it’s not the same for every individual. However, the results of this study were conclusive: the GEL-NIMBUS™ 25 was statistically the most comfortable running shoe tested.”
Tumblr media
Is this really the most comfortable running shoe? Comfort is subjective, so judge for yourself. Try ASICS latest product innovation and tell us how running in ASICS makes you feel. To find out more about the GEL-NIMBUS™ 25 shoe, please visit asics.com.
The GEL-NIMBUS™ 25 is available for men and women from ASICS retail, online stores and specialists running outlets globally from February 1, 2023.

Title: Bølgen (The Wave)
Director: Roar Uthaug
Year: 2015
Length: 1h 45min
Rating: R
Genres: Action, Drama, Thriller
Yay, Nay, or Meh: Yeh
Okay, so, the very first thing I'm going to say about this is, for the love of God, do not watch the dubbed version. The English overlays are SO bad and awkward, you'd think this was a middle school movie project instead of a legit movie. If you switch it back to the original dialogue, though, it gets much, MUCH better. It is still a disaster movie and, as such, does not have much leeway in terms of originality, but it is at least done in a way that makes you care about the characters involved in the story more than a lot disaster movies seem to do. I can't say that I know much about the plausability of this particular disaster; if I know anything about most disaster movies, it's a gross exaggeration and would never actually happen, but I'm inclined to believe it's more based in reality than most, as well. If nothing else, the scenery is damn gorgeous to look at, but I mean, of course it is, it's set in Scandinavia. Norway, specifically. But yeah. If you wanna watch a disaster movie that isn't just one long train wreck, I would recommend this one for a start.
