"They shall look upon me whom they have pierced, and they shall mourn." - Zechariah 12:10
Think not that they who were personally concerned in the crucifixion of the Lord Jesus Christ, were sinners above all the sinners of the world. Christ on the cross, the righteous Advocate, was able to find something extenuating in their conduct. " They know not what they do." Afterwards, when they saw what they had done, when the Spirit of Pentecost made him known as the Prince of life, many of them repented of their sin, and made haste to believe upon him. The measure of knowledge is an important element in determining the measure of sin. The measure of the means of knowing, let us say rather. There are thousands who are every day guilty of conduct as odious in the sight of heaven as that of the parties who nailed Christ to the cross, and thrust a spear into his side. These indeed, were mere Roman soldiers, having no personal animosity to Christ, whose language even they did not understand; the guilty parties of that scene did not themselves lift a finger against Christ. And their guilt falls immeasurably short, as we have said, of many who now live, read the Gospel, speak about it, profess to look to Christ for salvation, and yet utterly falsify his religion in their practice. When men attributed his blessed works and words to satanic influence, the heart of Christ was pierced; but it is even more pierced when men profess to be his disciples, and by continuance in sin teach the world that Christ has no objection to sin. These are engaged in crucifying the Son of God afresh. They crucify his love with their contentions; his holiness with their profane conduct; his justice with their unrighteousness; his mercy with their unmercifulness; his truth with their deceit; his generosity with their selfishness. They crucify him by falsifying him. Some pierce him by denying his divinity; some by teaching that he will save all, whether they repent or not; some by withholding his Gospel from the multitude; some by exalting a mere ceremony to a glory above that of Christ; some by substituting a crucifix for him; some in one way, some in another. All whose life, teaching, conversation, go to. misrepresent or degrade Christ be they as numerous as they may, as admired as you please, they are piercing Christ, and they shall mourn. The thing which will fill Christ’s meek ones with ineffable joy, will fill the hearts of these professors with anguish that no tongue can describe.

Satanic practice in Action! - A comprehensive guide for cultivating a Satanic Lifestyle.
Introduction
Satanism in action doesn't just have to be reserved for the ritual altar. The beauty of Satanic practice is that it can be tailored by the Satanist in a way that entwines with their lifestyle. In this blog, I hope to leave you with some new ideas to consider, and a practical way of looking at your lifestyle through the eyes of modern Satanism.
In the following extensive guide, you'll find examples of hands-on Satanism, and explanations of how they relate to Satanism. Giving meaning to the methods so that you can be confident within your practice.
Note: All recommended books are ones I have read, so I know they hold excellent information that link to that topic.
Index:
1. Self-improvement
2. Self-empowerment
3. Reading
4. Affirmation
5. Following your passions
6. Meditation and mindfulness
7. Satanic Philosophy
8. Habit
1. Self-improvement
Both self-improvement and self-empowerment are listed within this blog. They could be considered similar so I'd like to clarify how they differ within this context.
Self-improvement is effort exhorted for the betterment of the future self, present discipline for a future pay-off. Looking to the future for the power that you will be rewarded. Self-empowerment is the forceful realisation of the pay-offs that you are presently afforded. Looking to the now to appreciate the power that is already earned.
Satanism is about recognising your power as your own God. But I argue, the logical Satanist also recognises and reflects on the areas they lacks power, so that they can claim that power.
Be honest with yourself, find the areas that aren't as strong as you would like them to be, reflect on this, and put energy into rectifying this. As a God, you deserve to be at your best, and although not all power is innate, all power can be learnt.
People aren't born confident, motivated or well-organised. They've developed these skills. Skills are not fixed. They can be learnt by anyone, and by doing so you are sharpening your mental sword, and becoming a more well equipped Satanist.
Take action by:
Studying
Reading
Journaling
Re-framing obstacles as challenges
Facing fears, proving to yourself that you have courage.
Counciling or Therapy
Exercising
"The mind is its own place and in itself, can make a Heaven of Hell, a Hell of Heaven.” - John Milton
Recommended reading: Mindset by Carol Dweck.
2. Self-Empowerment
Satanism's most basic principal is that you are your own God, and your daily actions should reflect this belief. As a God, you should feel empowered, you should stand up for yourself and for your beliefs.
This doesn't mean that you take up an actively hostile approach with others, looking down on others from your podium above the clouds. It means that you recognise that you are as good as the people you compare yourself to. It means that you work on not being overly critical on yourself.
Take time to show yourself love and appreciation for the life YOU have created with no help from a diety. If left off its leash, the mind can wreak havoc on your self-esteem.
Challenge negative thoughts about yourself, bring them into the centre stage of your consciousness and put them on trial. "My subconcious says that when I went into that room and everyone stopped talking, it was because they were talking about me. How likely is that? Where does this worry stem from?."
A Satanist questions the validity of religious dogma, burning their own path regardless of what religious leaders preach. This is how you should treat the subconcious too. Question the reliability of its beliefs and decide on your own reality.
"The dictionary defines a belief as “something one accepts to be true.” A belief, therefore, is an absolute but arbitrary mental stance. Beliefs define reality, and beliefs can be changed." - Will Bowen.
Recommended Reading: You are a Badass by Jen Sincero, Love yourself like your life depends on it by Kamal Ravikant.
3. Reading
Satanism demands study, not worship. Learning is a large part of Satanism.
Some Romantic Satanists theorise that in the story of Adam and Eve, The Snake that appeared to Eve and encouraged her to eat from the tree of knowledge, was a depiction of Satan. Of course, God then punishes Eve for daring to be tempted by wisdom.
With this in mind, reading becomes a Satanic tool for learning that can be limitless in its possibilities to expand your aptitude. Build yourself up, with knowledge as your bricks.
There's also numerous Satanic books that explore Satanism head-on, or is regarded as Satanic in its nature and themes. It can be especially rewarding to dig into the history of your selected slice of Satanism.
For me, as a member of the Satanic Temple, It was fascinating to learn about Romantic Satanism, and how it played such an important role in the temples compassionate construction. The ideas aren't created from thin air, they are carefully thought out, and often soaked in Satanic history.
Every sect draws inspiration from somewhere, and learning of the basis of that inspiration can help bring deeper meaning to your understanding of your Satanism.
Recommended reading: The Compassionate Satanist by Lilith Starr, Paradise Lost by John Milton.
4. Affirmations
Left unmonitored, the sub-concious mind can run riot on one's mental state. Overthinking, analysing, anxiety and self-doubt are some of the wounds that can fester, thanks to the sub-concious mind.
Affirmations give you control of the stream of thoughts that are broadcasted into your mind. Used well, they can be a lethal weapon to fight back the arbitory authority that tries to rule your mind. Standing at the gates of your mind and going to war with the subconcious is the perfect internal metaphor for Satanism.
Creating meaningful affirmations:
Create a meaningful affirmation by staying away from words that focus on what you don't want, for example "I don't want to be overweight." Instead, say "I will be strong and fit".
Link emotion to the affirmation in order for it to carry meaning. Imagine the feeling of ending the day the way you want, use that feeling to burn your affirmation into your subconcious.
Add Satanic grandeur by closing affirmations with "Hail Satan"
Recommended reading: What to say when you talk to yourself by Shad Helmstetter.
5. Following your passions.
Making time to follow the activities that bring you absolute joy is important to the Satanist. As a self-realised diety, you deserve to dedicate time to the work, hobbies or people that fill you with meaning, purpose and happiness.
Part of Satanisms beauty is down to its adaptability and flexibility. With some consideration, you can make almost any kind of activity a Satanic one. If that activity is one that already resonates deeply with you, then Satanic practice may compliment it to furthermore increase its meaningfulness.
Try looking at the hobbies and activities that you become completely engrossed in, activities that you can become lost within and time seems to slip away while the activity holds your attention. These activities are the ones that speak to our truest self, they engage us completely, often with fulfilment, purpose and joy. By combining your uniquely powerful activity with Satanism, the practice becomes more potent.
For me, I started writing as part of my Satanic practice. I used to write often, but lost the skill over time. I decided Satanism would be the perfect vehicle to restart my passion. It has worked incredibly well for me. I feel I'm engrossing myself In my Satanic beliefs, while being creative in a way that I have become passionate about. This makes the activity feel like a Satanic practice that holds value in my life as a positive force of Satanic creativity.
Like me, you might find you need to look at exploring new passions, or re-igniting old ones that can work alongside Satanism.
Examples of how to combine Satanism with a passion.
Creativity: Left hand path inspired artistry, music, graphic design, Online content, blogging, poetry, video, podcasts etc.
Business: Satanic clothing, branding, altar decor. Parenting: Witholding Satanic values, teaching, modeling principles, compassion, open mindedness.
Fitness: Self-improvement, build resilience, increase self-belief.
6. Meditation and Mindfulness
Satanists regularly use meditation alongside Satanic ritual. This is a self explanatory combination that others have covered extensively, so I won't go into depths on it here. I will say that meditation has been one of the biggest positive influences on my mental health.
Its been a gateway into the spiritual side of my life, and away from the obsessive internal ramblings that life can inflict. If I could recommend only one Satanic habit, it would be to incorporate meditation into your daily life. Light a Baphomet candle, download headspace, and treat yourself to 10 minutes of internal quiet.
Meditation is a tool of mindfulness, of which there are many. Mindfulness is bringing the present into focus. This allows the Satanist to break the mental chains that the subconcious places on us.
Not allowing your subconcious to constantly steer your thoughts into one's of negativity and anxiety is an act of internal defiance. The subconcious is fearful, and spreads fear through the brain like poison. But the Satanist acts with courage, they define themselves, and they stand up for what they believe.
This is the attitude you should have when considering why mindfulness is important to the Satanist.
Example of a simple mindfulness practice:
Choose a mundane action, one you usually do while distracting yourself, such as brushing your teeth. This time, be completely focused on the activity, how the toothpaste tastes, how it smells, how it feels on your teeth etc.
Allow thoughts to come and go, but always return to the present experience until the action is complete.
Recommended reading: Idiots guide: mindfulness - Domyo Sater Burk the Devils Tome - Shiva Honey.
7. Satanic Philosophy
Most Satanic organisation have individual values that separate them. Although the core principals of most modern Satanic organisations remain similar in nature, the accompanying substance can differ.
These principals are not rules to live by, but ideas that provide a different lense to view your world through. Considering your organisations unique philosophy opens you up to potentially new ways of thinking, giving you an extra tactic to approach situations with.
For instance, The Satanic Temple has 7 Tenets that give a clear brief of the organisations purpose within the Satanic religion. As a TST member, I employ the 7 Tenents for my personal benefit, using them to help me think more compassionately towards myself and others. Remembering the tenants gives me a mental Satanic toolset to overcome adversary.
To help embrace your organisations ideology, I recommend you explore the rationale. Understand the meaning with absolution so that it can be applied to your life successfully. Talk to members of your organisation, ask questions, listen to podcasts and read books that are specific to your corner of Satanism.
Above all else, don't be a Satanic gate keeper, claiming your Satanism is the only true Satanism. Those kind of arguments are for Abrahamic religions, and should be beneath a Satanist.
8. Habit.
No matter which of these practices you decide on, making it a habit can take your practice from a short term boost, into a daily part of your life. By turning empowering Satanic practice into daily habit, you truly unlock your inner potential.
Creating a new habit typically takes 66 days, but can take up to 254 days before it becomes automatic and accepted into the subconscious. I'm sure you can bring to mind things you do daily, but aren't conscious about, such as brushing your teeth. These habits are ingrained into your schedule overtime until you don't even think about doing them.
Habits are formed by making them a priority. If an action is labelled as a "should" (I SHOULD meditate) then this leaves room for it to become forgotten about. A habit labelled as a "must" isn't reliant on fleeting motivation or time. If there is something you MUST do, you will always find time to do it and you won't rely on being in the right mind frame before you do it.
"The quality of your life, depends on the quality of your habits." - James Clear.

Bowen's Daily Meditations
Devotional: May 26th
''If two of you shall agree on earth as touching anything that they shall ask, it shall be done for them." - Matthew 18:19.
Men are fully aware of many of the advantages of partnerships. They even form partnerships for the prosecution of some labors that would seem most likely to be well performed by a single individual; as for instance, the labors of authorship. But they are not aware that any gain would result from entering into partnership, with the promises of God as their capital, and the throne of grace as their place of business.
The encouragement of the text does not address itself merely to an association formed of two persons; the context shows that it does not. But our Lord teaches that association in prayer is so exceedingly profitable, that even if two only should embark in it, there would be grand results. Let three, four, or a hundred and twenty, of one accord, of one mind, seek to utilize the promises; commensurate fruits shall appear in some early day of Pentecost. The great thing is not the numbers, but the agreement. The prayer of two whose souls are at tuned to exactly the same key, and who have learned to merge their separate interests in one common interest, shall prevail more than the prayer of tens of thousands, whose minds are occupied, more or less, with lingering considerations of purely personal good.
The Church in these latter times has grasped earnestly at the advantages connected with association; and the number of its societies is beyond estimate. But it is comparatively overlooked that association in prayer should take the lead of every other association. Upon the plateau in front of the mercy-seat, God, as it were, sees innumerable suppliants, each one, in some sense or other, standing by himself; and hears innumerable petitions which only accidentally coalesce, for the most part are quite different in sentiment and aim from one another, and sometimes are strangely opposed to one another. Now God would teach us that in prosecuting our associate enterprises, we must prosecute them with united prayer.
The prizes held out to believing prayer, are also prizes for Christian concord of the most intimate kind. Oh, who can tell what mighty, what magnificent freight of celestial treasure will reach the shores of this world, when Christians bind them selves together with the utmost stringency, before the mercy seat? surrendering all divided interests, and constituting them selves one firm; feeling that all depends upon their absolute agreement. Cannot every parent understand this? Is it not his delight when a gift bestowed on one child is a gratification to all? Is it not a grief to him to observe that his children have divided interest? Ten thousand prayers are dismissed daily, with this one word, " Love one another with pure hearts fervently."

Upper House Hong Kong: Review & How Best to Book
What Are the Rooms at Upper House Like?
Upper House Hong Kong rooms are actually called Studios. Those who would like more space can choose Upper Suites or one of the Penthouses.
The 117 Andre Fu designed accommodations come with luxury amenities such as a dual temperature wine fridge, complimentary maxi bar (snacks, soda, juice, and beer are included — bottles of wine chosen by the Café Gray sommelier are a surprisingly reasonable additional cost), espresso machine, and audiovisual connectivity. Rooms also come with LCD TVs with video on demand, surround sound, and electronic blinds that cover the massive exterior windows.
The stunning bathroom / Photo courtesy of Swire Hotels
The oversized bathrooms are a highlight, taking up what feels like half of the Studios, and stocked with amenities you may have forgotten to pack and then some. Definitely plan time to soak in the tub with panoramic views of The Peak or harbour.
Here’s a quick summary of the Upper House rooms.
Studio 70
Studio 70 harbour view room (Studio 80 looks the same) / Photo courtesy of Swire Hotels
Located on Level 38 and up, Studio 70 rooms span 68 square feet and contain a king-size bed, walk-in rain shower, and limestone bathtub. Studio 70 rooms face the harbor or island.
Studio 80
Studio 80 rooms offer 850 square feet of elegant space with a walk-in shower, a limestone bathtub, and views of the island or harbour.
Upper Suites
Upper Suite Living Room / Photo courtesy of Swire Hotels
If you’re looking for more spacious guest rooms, the Upper Suites span 1,230 square feet and come with a separate bedroom and living room area. Upper Suites contain a living room with an L-shaped sofa and a spa-inspired bathroom. The bedroom has a comfortable king bed.
Penthouses
Experience luxury and ample space in the Upper House Hong Kong Penthouses. The 1,960-square-foot suites contain a living room, and two bedrooms, each with an en-suite bath. Relax on luxury furniture in the living room while gazing at views of the city and the harbor or admiring the original artworks.
Does Upper House Have Connecting Rooms?
No. Families will need to fit into one Studio, Upper Suite, or Penthouse. Maximum occupancy in most Hong Kong hotels is three people of any age, with a handful of exceptions.
Studio 80 rooms have a sofa bed for one person. They can put a crib in this room in addition to preparing the single sofa bed. Families of four with older children or families of five with two older children and a baby should choose an Upper Suite. The Upper Suite has a large L-shaped sofa that can be converted to two single sofa beds. The hotel can also place a crib in the suite.
Where You’ll Eat and Drink at Upper House Hong Kong
The Upper House Hong Kong has three dining establishments on-site: Café Gray Deluxe, Café Gray Bar, and The Lawn.
Café Gray Deluxe
Café Gray Deluxe is well-known for its international menu of beautifully-plated, delicious food, and panoramic harbour views. I like that the tall ceilings and tasteful contemporary decor make the space feel open and airy, making the view and food the focal points. The restaurant’s reputation means it’s popular with locals (my friends in Hong Kong love it).
Here, Chef Gray Kunz designs a menu that highlights organic, seasonal ingredients. Classic European cuisine blends with techniques from Asia and America.
If you book in as a Virtuoso guest, you’ll enjoy breakfast for two here. Whether you prefer Western-style with eggs and meats, or Asian-inspired with Jing teas, porridge, and dumplings, Cafe Gray has a range of breakfast options but save room for the beautiful pastries.
At lunchtime, the kitchen serves fixed two- and three-course menus. As a former British colony, Hong Kong carries on traditions from the English, as showcased in the restaurant’s daily afternoon teas. The golden raisin scones pair deliciously with house-made jams, honey, and Devonshire clotted cream. When the sun sets, the kitchen cooks a four-course menu expertly paired with award-winning wine recommendations from the in-house sommelier.
Café Gray Bar
Café Gray Bar is adjacent to Cafe Gray Deluxe and is a perfect place to sip hand-crafted cocktails and world-class wines while enjoying views of the Kowloon and Hong Kong skyline. Mixologists create unique concoctions updated seasonally. Ask about Café Gray Chef Sommelier, Leo Au’s, award-winning 10-Year Wine List.
The Lawn
Life’s a picnic at The Lawn, where green grass and gardens surround you. Order a drink while enjoying small bites in a lush respite away from the hustle and bustle of the city. During my stay, it was quiet here as most people head up to Café Gray Bar.
In-Room Dining
Of course, Upper House Hong Kong guests can take advantage of an exclusive 24-hour in-room dining menu.
Signing Privileges at Hong Kong Restaurants
If you find yourself visiting popular restaurants in town (which you should), you’ll be able to sign the bill to the room at a handful. Most recently this includes Ho Lee Fook (a favorite of mine), Carbone, Duddell’s, The Continental, Mr & Mrs Fox, Plat du Jour, Spiga, Bizou, Grappa’s, and others. This list could change at any time so do ask the concierge to verify.
Upper House Wellness Offerings
The Hong Kong boutique hotel’s aim is to be a lifestyle property where people can eat well and feel well while enjoying Hong Kong.
In-Room Spa Treatments
These include nail services by The Nail Library luxe nail spa (tap into that Maxi bar for some wine or bubbly to compliment the service), With 24 hours notice, you can book an exclusive Christian Louboutin nail treatment.
In-room massages can be whatever style you prefer (lymphatic, reflexology, aromatherapy, Swedish, etc.) from 50-100 minutes.
Complimentary Yoga Classes
All guests enjoy complimentary 60-minute yoga and meditation classes at Upper House Hong Kong held in the mornings on the weekend. The hotel will also arrange private classes for an hourly charge. Head over to PURE Yoga studio in the Star Street Precinct (I used to belong here and it’s fantastic) hosts over 30 styles including hot yoga, Hatha yoga, and aerial yoga.
24-Hour Gym
If you prefer working out on your own time, Upper House has a fully equipped gym open 24 hours with Technogym cardiovascular machines and weights.
Bowen Road Running Trail
Grab a jogging map from the Guest Experience Team to head out to Bowen Road and its popular running trails. Take to the trails by bike, if you wish, by reserving a bicycle through the hotel’s Guest Experience Team.
Nearby Tennis Courts
Upper House Hong Kong guests can reserve tennis courts at Bowen Tennis Courts which can be booked online up to 11 days in advance. The courts are open daily throughout the year, although guests must bring their own rackets and balls. The hotel can also arrange private sessions with a coach for an additional charge per hour.
Is there a Swimming Pool at Upper House?
No. The benefit of a location near three other hotels is that Upper House guests visit the Conrad or Island Shangri-La hotel pools with a pass for purchase or complimentary swimming access at sister hotel EAST, in Taikoo with arranged drop off (personally, I think heading over to Taikoo takes a bit of effort, about a 10-minute drive away with no traffic or 30 minutes on the MTR, so I’d pay to use the nearby hotel pools.)
Unique Lifestyle Amenities
Lobby / Courtesy of Swire Hotels (the same escalators led us to our old apartment)
A Fleet of BMW House Cars
Upper House offers guests the use of House cars as transport options that include a BMW 5201 or X5, Mercedes or 6 seater MPV. The BMW i3 can drop guests off to nearby locations, subject to availability.
In-Room Tailor
Lord’s Tailor will come to Upper House to measure and select fabrics for guests who would like to enjoy a custom suit or shirt.
Rimowa Repair
Need a ding fixed? The Guest Experience Team will arrange to have your Rimowa luggage serviced during your stay. (There is also a Rimowa shop in the attached Pacific Place mall with Hong Kong stickers if you’re the type to let your luggage tell your story). As a Rimowa owner, I love this.
Things to Do Near Upper House Hong Kong in the Admiralty Area
Admiralty borders Wan Chai on the east end of the Central business district. The MTR Station is Admiralty, which has an entrance inside Pacific Place mall below Upper House Hong Kong.
Interchange at the station for the Tseun Wan line to Kowloon or the South Island Line to Ocean Park Hong Kong. This access to both lines makes the location convenient for those in Hong Kong with kids and those who want to easily explore Kowloon markets.
You can walk to attractions in Central in about 20-30 minutes depending on where you’re going. While this sounds far, I used to take this walk all the time and enjoy passing through Hong Kong Park (The Peak Tram Lower Terminus is here) and browsing shops along the Queens Road until reaching the Mid-Levels Escalator.
Pacific Place mall adjacent to Upper House provides a wealth of dining and shopping in addition to a gourmet market called great. Nearly anything you forgot to pack can be picked up here. Some of the best restaurants are located inside luxury hotels, and there are three others in the same complex as Upper House.
On the Wan Chai side, check out Star Precinct a gentrified intersection of four streets that is now a hip dining and shopping destination.

Bowen's Daily Meditations
Tumblr media
by Rev. George Bowen
"I will trust." - Isaiah 12:2
Not in uncertain riches, not in my own sagacity, not in my probity, not in my social position, not in the felicity of circumstances; not in the friendship of the world, not even in the favor of Christians; not in the sacraments, not in my prayers, nor in my repentance, nor in my obedience.
I will trust in Him that became man in order that he might bear my sins in his own body on the tree.
I will trust in him, for he is the most trustworthy being in the universe. Shall a child trust in its parent, a bride in the bridegroom, a soldier in his general, a captive in his deliverer, a patient in his physician, - shall men in all conditions abound in trust towards their fellow-men, and shall I not trust in the Almighty who hath shown himself all-gracious? Is there more than one being existent, of whom it can be said that heaven and earth shall pass away sooner than his least word? There is but one, and in him I will trust.
"Take," says Satan; "trust", says God.
"Almost nobody trusts," says my unbelieving neighbor. For that very reason I will trust. Is it not an infamy that the Lord of heaven and earth, the source of all blessedness, should be untrusted? You lie down to sleep trusting in your breath that it will continue to come and go all night, although a single interruption would be fatal; trusting in the beams over your bead that they will not break; in the wind that it will not blow any inflammable thing into the vicinity of your lamp; in the atmosphere that it will not allow any pestilential influences to come nigh your couch; in ten thousand things without life or sense; and shall not I trust in him in whom I live, and move, and have my being?
I will trust, said Peter; and the sea became as rock beneath his feet. I will trust, said the Syro-Phoenician woman; though the disciples said, send her away; and her daughter was healed. I will take, said Balaam; and became rich for a day, accursed forever. Let me live, said Jonah, and was cast into the sea. I will trust, said he afterward, and all Nineveh bowed at his word. I will trust, said Daniel, and was delivered. I will save my life, said Peter, and denied his Lord. I will trust, said he afterward, and laid him down to sleep; then came the angel of the Lord, and brought him forth from prison. What mean ye to weep and to break my heart? said Paul; I will trust.

5 Cat Books to Add to Your Winter Reading List

Cat lovers will want to check out these feline-centric reads.
The Little Book of Bob: Life Lessons from a Street-wise Cat
In 2007, street busker James Bowen found an injured cat in the hallway of his shelter home in North London. The friendship changed both their lives and led to the best-selling book A Street Cat Named Bob. The pair is back with this new heartwarming book about how to be kinder to ourselves and to the world around us.
This book was such an uplifting read, filled with so many examples of the importance of friendship — like sharing your good fortune and having faith in each other. The book also offers some great advice from Bob on how to get the most out of life — seeing all the wonder around us, taking chances when we see them, knowing your limitations and seizing each day.
Bob fans old and new will cherish the lessons and enlightenment of this wise cat. Published by Thomas Dunne Books.
Kitten Lady’s Big Book of Little Kittens
Animal advocate and humane educator Hannah Shaw, aka Kitten Lady, takes readers on the adorable journey of orphan foster kittens — from their first days all the way to adoption. An aww-inspiring read, it answers lots of questions about these tiny felines: Did you know kittens are born with their eyes closed and that they can fit in the palm of your hand? Or that being groomed with a toothbrush reminds them of their mothers’ tongues, making them feel safe and comfy? Hannah shows how she helps orphaned kittens grow up, get adopted and become healthy, happy cats. The book also features adorable photos and talks about some of her many previous fosters. Published by Aladdin, an imprint of Simon & Schuster’s Children’s Publishing Division.
Catfulness: A Cat’s Guide to Achieving Mindfulness
Cats know the art of living — they eat when they’re hungry, sleep when they’re tired, have learned patience by sitting for hours outside a mouse hole and meditate by staring at an aquarium. From a cat’s point of view, we humans love to create problems for ourselves. We never stop, and we always seem to be looking for more to do. We say we’re looking for happiness — but do we know what it actually is? Written by “a cat,” (with the help of Paolo Valentino and Chenxin Jiang), this book is a seven-week mindfulness program for human beings, featuring instructions like stop and relax; gaze at an aquarium; enjoy your daily routine; and don’t always be looking elsewhere. Published by Quercus/Hachette Book Group.
How to Land on Your Feet: Life Lessons From My Cat
Back in the early days of Catster, we featured artist Jamie Shelman and her quirky cat art. So, we’re so excited about this book featuring 100 adorable (and always true) sayings paired with her beautifully designed illustrations. Here are some favorites: Be especially attentive to the one person who doesn’t like you; Get away with murder by looking cute; Ignore anyone who doesn’t worship you; Why spend one life worrying … when you could spend nine lives napping?” These amusing — and sage — lessons capture the unique joys and lessons of living with cats. Published by The Experiment.
Max Attacks
The title says it all! Max is a cat who loves to attack. Unfortunately, he gets distracted easily. One minute he’s going after the fish bowl, the next he’s charging up the window screen after something green and scaly. A catnip bird is suddenly forgotten when he spies a basket filled with dirty socks. This adorable book by Kathi Appelt is written in a fun, silly rhyme and features bright and often zoomed-in illustrations by Penelope Dullaghan. Max is sure to be a hit with young readers. Published by Atheneum Books for Young Readers.

Bowen Therapy Surrey - Surrey Naturopath
Exercise
Exercise is a great stress reliever. Anything from playing sports, to walking can be enjoyable and improves your immunity and circulation.
Diet
Eat small well balanced meals, with adequate protein carbohydrates, and fat. Try to eat breakfast within an hour of getting up. Do not skip any meals. Don’t eat a late dinner.
Avoid caffeine. Since it will raise cortisol levels, and can keep you up at night and therefore upset your sleep pattern.
Avoid high sugar foods including starchy foods such as potatoes and white bread  sugary fruit like mangoes, and melons. Learn about glycemic index and glycemic load.
Avoid trans fat and greasy food which will slow your digestion and raise your bad cholesterol and lower good cholesterol
Improve your energy, book a one on one appointment to discuss your personalized treatment plan.
Do you have any of the following symptoms?
     abdominal weight gain
     anxiety
     low mood
     low blood pressure
     sugar cravings
     napping
     afternoon fatigue
     chronic inflammation
     panic attacks
     syndrome X
chronic disease of CV system or GI system
     IBS
     weakened immunity and recurrent infection
     subclinical hypothyroidism
Then you could benefit by improving your adrenal gland function!!!
What is the Adrenal Gland?
Your adrenal gland is a small gland that sits on top of each of your kidneys and helps your body deal with stress by releasing a stress hormone called cortisol.
What is the relationship of the adrenal gland with stress?
First of all, your body cannot tell the difference between mental, emotional, or physical stress.  In a practical sense, that means there is no difference between you working a long hard day at the office crunching numbers, or a struggling with a recent breakup with a partner, or working a physically taxing job that requires heavy lifting.   In other words, all of those stressors will receive an equivalent response from your adrenal gland. The response is to specifically increase your stress hormones, so you can better adapt to and deal with stress.  In essence it ensures your survival.
Survival of our species and your personal survival
You’ve probably heard of the “Fight of Flight” response. It is intimately connected with your adrenal glands.
This story takes us back thousands of years, when humans were struggling for survival.  At the time, the next meal required great effort and safety was paramount. So finding lunch was just as important as avoiding becoming someone else’s lunch!
For example, what if you were being attacked by a tiger in the jungle? There are two responses to that attack. Run and hide or attack. Both allow survival and this precisely is a fight or flight response. Humans have evolved and the environment has changed from a real jungle to an urban jungle. When you walk downtown you don’t expect to be attacked by a tiger on the street. But there are different “tigers” ready to pounce. One “tiger” may be your boss or co-worker that verbally attacks you.
When you respond, it’s very likely you won’t resort to fisticuffs or grab a spear, but instead say something back to them, run and hide or say nothing and just try to ignore them.  Another example of “fight or flight” response is being stuck in traffic when you are late for work or an appointment and emotions such as frustration, anger, and worry begin to surface. At an emotional level, you can be anxious or worried and fearful of your boss and being late or you can be agitated, frustrated and angry.
If this happens to you, then you are experiencing fight or flight and your stress hormones are released —you are in heightened survival mode; your body responds by increasing your heart rate, increasing your respiratory rate, dilating your pupils. Overtime, especially if you have these feelings on a daily basis, this chronic release of stress hormone begins to create unpleasant symptoms that you may be experiencing.
So that same feeling of being late for an appointment, tired after a long day at the office, or verbally attacked by your boss, having relationship issues with your partner or working a strenuous job that requires heavy lifting can lead to health problems.
What is your body’s response to stress?
You’ve probably heard of adrenalin; cortisol is a hormone that is similar to adrenalin. When adrenalin is released we may feel a rush of excitement, anger, frustration, burst of energy. Below is a description of Maladaptive Stress Syndrome that describes your body’s response to stress.
MSS-0 is a normal response to stress that is described as a healthy well-adapted range of alertness and an appropriate response to a perceived stress. The response is mediated by autonomic nervous system and the adrenal hormones (catecholamines).
MSS-1 is maladaptive stress syndrome stage 1 and is described as chronic excess of catecholamines and an increase in cortisol. When there is a perceived stress then a fight or flight response is activated but it is not appropriate—it is in excess. Hence it is associated with anger, irritability, aggression, anxiety, worry, fear and panic. After being in MSS-1 a person can progress to MSS-2 over a period of time.
MSS-2 is a maladaptive stress syndrome stage 2 and is described as chronic excess production of cortisol. There is immune suppression, Syndrome X, Chronic diseases (Cardiovascular, Gastrointestinal), increased androgens. Progression of MSS-2 to MSS-3 is worsened by stress, history of steroid use, nutritional deficiencies, and functional hypoglycemia.
MSS-3 is a maladaptive stress syndrome stage 3 and is described as chronic decreased cortisol and episodic catecholamine production. It is associated with fatigue, chronic fatigue syndrome and fibromyalgia, hypotension, postural hypotension, environmental and food sensitivities, atypical depression, anxiety, poor stress resistance, post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).
TREATMENT:  So how do we prevent and treat these problems that are associated with maladaptive stress syndrome?
Each stage of MSS has its appropriate treatment. To determine which stage you’re in, lab testing and proper diagnosis is required by your naturopath.
Stage 0 –  lifestyle and stress management
Stage 1 – meditation, exercise, relaxation, B-complex vitamins, and nervines.
Stage 2 – cortisol lowering therapies such as DHA, vitamin C, sodium restriction, pyridoxine, avoiding sugar since it stimulates cortisol production, and DHEA.
·Stage 3 requires adaptogenic herbs, pantothenic acid, low glycemic diet, immune support, amino acids, and graduated moderate exercise.

Think Healthy To Be Healthy
Think Healthy To Be Healthy
All the SECRET lovers out there, there’s no one who can understand the law of attraction better than you. Well the reference that was just made was in relation to what is the connection between what we think and what happens to us in real life.
It is usually said that if you wish for all the good things in life, they are bound to happen and so is the case with the bad ones. So according to human nature we must definitely focus on the positive things to make the tables turn towards us. Our thinking has a great impact on our lives, if we are determined we can surely make the rest of our life, the best of our lives. Similarly is the case with staying fit,it’s not that we just out of the blue think that we have to stay healthy and that happens, strong determination is required. So the bottom line is Think Healthy To Be Healthy! All you have to do is to adopt a healthier lifestyle so that you can be induced in a positive manner to be focused in order to stay healthy.
Basics of living a healthy lifestyle
Eat fresh fruits as far as possible
Eating fresh fruits is recommended by most doctors as the basic mantra to stay healthy. A person should avoid eating junk and processed food as the harm caused by their consumption is very high and it should not be done on a regular basis.
Walk to stay healthy
Every individual, irrespective of age should include walking in their daily routine as it contributes to the basic fitness regime that one should follow. It is observed in various studies that people who walk regularly are less likely to fall into the trap of joint pains and arthritis.
Stay Hydrated
Water is our ultimate friend, and no matter what you should not reduce your water intake as it is the main requirement for all the bodily functions. It maintains the normal blood pressure of the body and also lubricates the joints.
Get enough sleep
It is generally observed that if you don’t get enough sleep you usually compensate it by eating more, and that too mostly the junk food. So here we can see the double harm by not getting enough sleep and consuming junk too. This paves the way for various diseases that come up the way. Thus in order to prevent yourself from all these damages, you should be getting enough sleep because only then our mind is calm and can work efficiently.
Meditate to stay healthy
It is scientifically proven that meditation helps the body in stress management and calming the body as well as the soul. It is advised to mediate atleast for 10-15 minutes daily on an initial stage to prevent the amalgamation of negative energies in the body.
This was all about the things that should be done and now let us focus on the things that you should be avoiding. The main logic behind avoiding things is that firstly you need to realise that a certain habit practised by you is wrong and needs to be stopped. The main achievement is accomplished when you realise that and are determined to stop that. Here is a quick checklist of things to be avoided:
● Alcohol ● White Bread ● Refined Sugar ● Processed meat ● Soya Sauce ● Diet soda ● Packaged dips Thus in a nutshell, we are the ones who are entirely responsible for the maintenance of our health and in order to maintain a proper healthy body,it is our responsibility to be concerned towards our health. So we should focus on the healthy eating habits to maintain ourselves.

Real Estate Developer and Innovator Candy Ho Unveils Sparkling New Vision for Intergenerational Communities, Social Transformation, Mindfulness and Holistic Wellness
https://authoritypresswire.com/?p=28153 According to statistics from the Canadian government in 2016, 16.9% of Canadians were aged 65 years or older, and 2.2% were aged 85 years or older, representing a 20% increase in these age groups since 2011. The segment of the Canadian population aged 65 years and older is expected to increase to 20.0% by 2024, raising concerns about where these seniors will live and who will care for them. While some see these statistics as a warning sign, one heart-centered real estate developer with a passion for social transformation sees an opportunity. “We’re trying to create a better and a new way of living,” says Candy Ho, co-founder of Element Lifestyle Retirement in Vancouver, British Columbia. Ho is a leader in the “Intergenerational Aging in Place” movement and has been in the retirement industry for half her life. Her reputation as an innovator has sparked change and inspired the industry across Canada and all the way to Australia, winning her company an international award in stiff competition from over 950 retirement projects assessed worldwide. Those who know Candy Ho know that she has always had a passion for helping others and for giving back to her community. Originally on track to become a doctor, she decided instead to follow in her father’s footsteps as a real estate developer. “As a physician, I felt like I could only do so much good. But I learned from my father to see into the future, to have a vision for something that doesn’t exist,” Ho explains. “He taught me that it’s about doing the right thing.” That vision of a better future for seniors and their families enabled Ho to have an even greater impact as an agent of social transformation. But there is a personal motivation as well. Ho’s mother has Parkinson’s disease. That made Ho think about the kind of retirement community she would like her parents to live in. She realized that traditional retirement communities tended to separate, rather than unite, family members. “That’s when I realized that intergenerational communities help everyone stay connected to younger, vibrant energy, instead of being surrounded by suffering and feeling stigmatized in a home with a label that says they’re old and needy,” Ho says. Thanks to Ho’s tireless efforts, her vision is spreading across the globe. Other retirement communities now look at Ho’s model to come up with their own version of intergenerational living. Ho and other industry leaders are advocating for seniors and their families at the municipal, provincial, and federal level to overcome restrictive government regulations. Now that she has successfully ignited further innovation in the retirement industry, Ho has shifted her attention to leading a project she has dedicated herself to for 15 years: The Cape on Bowen, a 618-acre southwestern waterfront development on the only island within Metro Vancouver. As CEO of this development, her mission is to create a legacy community with a long-term vision that is to become a role model for the world in terms of balanced socio-economic-environmental sustainability. For this to happen, Ho is committing to deep community engagement and collaboration for a better future. Both her enthusiasm and her energy are apparent as she paints a mental picture of what she sees: “Diverse forms of housing, including ownership, long-term rentals and co-living; community gardens, farms and orchards; a charming pedestrian-oriented arts, culture and retail village; a network of contiguous trails and wildlife habitat; an adventure waterfront park; an International Baccalaureate secondary school, and an international retreat and resort for mindful leadership and holistic healing,” Ho explains with excitement. In addition to the legacy island development, her other big venture will be wellness communities, with a mission to shift society's collective consciousness towards mindfulness, compassion, peace and integrity. “I want to cultivate meaningful connection and encourage people to take a proactive approach to holistic wellness and purposeful living,” Ho says. While social transformation is her underlying motivation, Ho isn't shy to say that she recognizes the tremendous business potential for creating communities centered around mindfulness and meditation. "I believe that when your heart is in the right place and you do something that the world needs, abundance follows naturally. That abundance allows you to sustain and grow your impact." For Ho, her greatest positive energy comes from contributing to society through her daily work and visionary projects. “My biggest passion is to overcome the status quo and positively transform the world through open-minded and open-hearted collaboration within the community to harness the power of unity,” Ho explains. Candy Ho is CEO of The Cape on Bowen and co-founder and vice president of Element Lifestyle Retirement. She is a director on the boards of the B.C. Senior Living Association and the B.C. Heart & Stroke Foundation. To connect with Candy Ho, message her on LinkedIn.

Weekly reading for November 13th - 19th: Do you daydream? I know I do. A lot. It's great for divine communication. Even some of my artistic ideas come from daydreaming--through visions during daydreams. I find it appropriate this card chose to show up after last week's card of spiritual growth. Growing spiritually allows us to hear God's words more, and daydreaming is a form of listening...as is meditation. I remember in a podcast from Psychic Teachers, Deb Bowen once said something along the lines of, "prayer is our way of talking to God; meditation is a way for us to listen." So daydream! Let the answers come to you. Maybe even write down what you get. Divine inspiration comes in many forms.
