"Try again, this time focus on keeping your stance tight."
"Yes sir." There is the clacking of training sticks for a few minutes before a loud thump, and a score buzzer rang out through the training room.
"Improvement, but you can do better."
"Yes sir." 7567 sighed, getting up to his feet with a wince. Sweat is dripping off his brow as the cadet stands, and he has barely a moment to breathe before his opponent strikes, deflecting the blow as he stepped back. He doesn't move as fast as the man he's facing, but 7567 does his best to not waver as he dodges and strikes the few chances he can, but eventually is once again tripped onto his back.
"Much better." Commander Neyo offers his hand, and helps the younger clone up and onto his feet. "You've earned a rest, go get a drink." 7567 nodded and went to fetch his canteen, sitting down on the floor with a relieved sigh. His muscles are all aching as he sips his water, but 7567 is proud that he's becoming stronger and stronger with his training.
It had been a little over two months since Kamino had been taken over by his fellow ori'vod, and the facilities had begun to feel akin to a home. It wasn't uncommon to see Jetti more and more these days, and there were rumors that some of the unfinished living areas were being converted into a mini Temple for them, which was quite exciting for the younger clones. Battalions and squads from all over made it a point to try and swing by when they could, often acting as couriers from other groups to bring things that could be used to decorate the facilities or bring a view of the universe to awestruck cadets and the eager shinies. 7567 watched it all happen in the background, or as much as he could with everyone knowing he'd become close with the various commanders that visited when they could.
"Come, another half hour, and then you're free to go." Neyo had been the one allowed to stay the longest so far, and while he wasn't affection as Bly, or gentle as Monnk, 7567 could see early on the commander's own way he showed his care. He knew a lot of the deployed troopers would mutter comments about how cold and uncaring the commander was, but he had never really felt that Neyo was like that.
By the end of the half-hour, 7567 is exhausted, but pleased to have remained upright this round, grinning as he gathered up his canteen and a small towel to wipe away his sweat.
"Would you like to join me for dinner ori'vod?" 7567 hoped he wasn't being too direct, waiting until the duo had left the training room to ask. "I have an area where the others won't be able to watch us eat."
"If you wish." 7567 smiled, and darted off to go shower, leaving the commander to break off and do the same in his temporary officers' quarters. It had been one of Lama Su's random conference rooms that were never used, Neyo taking a small joy from throwing out the furniture into the hallway. Said room was half of a construction site, as he was in the process of hand-building a bathroom and kitchenette for use when he would rotate in and out.
He despised the clinical way the Kaminoians insisted on decorating everything from equipment to clothing.
7567 is waiting patiently for him outside of Neyo's room when the commander steps out, holding a tray of food for both of them.
"You remembered what I enjoy." The cadet nods as Neyo takes his tray, and begins to follow 7567 through the halls.
"Commander Fox said he would teach me how to cook when he comes back." The cadet is practically beaming at the idea. "I hope he's okay, he hasn't been really answering my comms lately, but I know he's busy."
"Mhm." Neyo made a note to check in on Fox later on, trailing 7567 as he takes the other up to the highest level of the facility, setting his tray down to pull open a door that had been locked up at some point.
"Come on, this has one of the best views." Picking his tray back up, 7567 leads Neyo into the dark room and towards the giant window that spanned one side of the room. The commander can see there are some cots littered around what must have been a storage room at one time, and realizes it was most likely a batches hiding spot from the longnecks, of which he knew there were quite a few around Tipoca. The window did overlook quite a bit of the landing platforms of Tipoca, and can picture eager eyes watching ships taking on and off day after day.
"Nice view." 7567 nodded as he took a seat at a table right up against the window, and Neyo joins him after nudging some cushions aside.
"One of my batchmates found it, took us weeks to get all this stuff in here." The younger hummed as he bit into a fruit, glancing up at some writing scratched into the glass. "We used to come whenever we had our free day, but got caught near...near the end."
"I see." Neyo leans forward, and gives 7567 a gentle pat to the top of his head that he was growing used to. "They did well."
"Yea, didn't they?" The younger smiles weakly, and for a few minutes, they eat in silence, listening to the landing and departure of a few ships below.
"What does this mean?" 7567 glances over when Neyo speaks, and sees he's pointing at something etched into the glass.
"The R E X S I? They were the initials of some ARC troopers we earned some lessons from." The younger smiled fondly at the memory, and Neyo continues to stare at the initials for a spell before looking at the cadet.
"I will call you Rex. While...not what they inferred, your batchmates left a name for you."
"...what?" Neyo watches as 7567 stares, wide eyes trained on him as he disgests the information. "Are..you're serious?"
"Yes."
"Rex...Rex." The name sounds foreign at first, almost seeming fit for some other clone that hadn't grown into his namesake. "Rex...I like it."
"Thought as much. Now the others can stop bickering." 75-no, Rex, looked up in confusion, as Neyo sips his drink.
"They were fighting about my name?" Rex can't help the grin that breaks out, and Neyo rolled his eyes. "Who was winning?"
"No one, though Cody went to speak with the Jedi for an idea. He most likely would have succeeded." Rex grinned, a smile that didn't leave his face until the two separated for the evening. Neyo could hear Rex excitedly sharing his name as he walked away with any clone in sight, and a faint smirk pulls at his lips as he pulls out his data pad.
<Neyo>: Kid has a name now.
<Cody>: What???
<Wolffe>: You DID NoT
<Wolffe>: NEYO
<Fox>: It better be good.
<Cody>: I agree
<Bly>: What is it??? I want to know!
<Neyo>: Rex
<multiple CC's are typing>
<Ponds>: I like it, where's it from?
<Fox>: Rex?
<Cody>: Rex, suits him.
<Wolffe>: ......it's good
<Bly>: I can't wait when the others log in :]
<Gree>: A name???
Neyo watches as the others continue to banter, but none of them seemed to dislike the name.
Worked for him.

Someday I'm gonna find words for what goes through my mind every time I watch Gree kneeling down next to his tinyass frog of a general on Kashyyk but that day is not gonna be today.
Gree has seen green grandpa decimate armies. The 41st could play catch with Yoda as the ball if they asked nicely. He openly talks about the sentients he would sacrifice to end the war, even to those sentients (some of whom he raised). Yoda disagrees when Rys says there's "not much to see" in their identical faces. He will soon behead Gree without a second thought. He rides on clones' shoulders like a parrot.
Yoda has Obi-Wan sneak him into the Temple massacre disguised as a "Jedi baby" (RotS novel) and probably kills more chip-washed clones than any other O66 survivor while admonishing Obi-Wan for being devastated by the deaths of everyone they've ever known and loved. He probs caught Padawan Plo with less than half a gram of space weed 85 years ago and grounded him until he was master.
Gree has to get down on the floor to show him the screen of that datapad like people who realize children are people do when talking to a toddler. He's 900 and Gree is like 14.

Got any favorite headcanons?
I generally put them in the chaos gremlin CC batch with Wolffe, Cody, and Fox, but I have less developed (see: no) hcs for what they're like outside of the general clone trooper competent/dutiful/no-nonsense/etc. But I know they're someone's faves, so if anyone wants to give me opinions on their vibes, personalities, little details, I'd be happy to hear them!

After the war, Gree says the riduurok with his husband then goes to university and majors in sociocultural anthropology, eventually becoming an ethnographer - living among different cultures for often several years to learn how they work and what they value from the ground up. He’s known in the academic community for a unique perspective as a first generation clone commander who already greatly contributed to the birth of a culture, and he’s known between sister cultures he visits as someone who is respectful and enthusiastic to learn. One of the planets he visits as an ethnographer is Mandalore, and there he is formally adopted by the remnants of House Mereel and given the apellation “Miitgaana’mandad” (”writer of the collective soul”), which he shortens to Miitganda and uses as his clan name. After he retires, he writes a sociocultural treatise on Vode culture, with input from his batch and Rex and the rest of the 41st Elite. It becomes the top selling nonfiction book for nearly a decade, not only for the peek into clone lives, but also for the exposure of Kaminoan child abuses during the creation of the clones. He and his husband adopt a daughter and he uses his combined military and academic pensions to send her through uni and she becomes a well-known art historian. After she graduates, he allows himself to be pulled out of retirement to teach as a tenured professor at a Mandalorian university. His students know him for his ugly sweaters, his animated teaching style and infectious enthusiasm, and his ability to toss anything directly into the trash can from any distance. He becomes a grandfather and when his daughter asks him for name suggestions for his granddaughter, he thinks for a long moment before suggesting Luminara or Barriss. Luminara “Mina” Miitganda grows up to be a Journeyman Protector on Concord Dawn like her other mother and names her son after her grandfather. Gree Sr lives to become a great-great-grandfather and known academic cryptid before he and his husband pass peacefully away together in their sleep, still embracing.

1004 The One With The Cake
Chandler's so eager, bless him. What an engaged and encouraging dad! Monica holding on to that baby, she hasn't let go with either hand once since this scene began, probably not in the 45 mins since its just been the trio. A CC thing, obviously, but also indicative of how hands-on and present Monica will be. These two have so much love to give and fully intend to give that love to a child who has been neglected like they were, desperate to make sure that what happened to them never happens again.

He hasn’t actually thought about it with any sort of intentionality before now—Kenobi and Vos had been spontaneous, and Luminara had come to him. Even Windu was mostly a case of things just sort of happening to work out the way they did. “I don’t know,” he says. “I’ve already been with baseline human males and females. I think I’d like to try something else—maybe some non-standard dick?” Obi-Wan is suddenly grinning wickedly at him, and Cody can’t help but eye the other man warily. “What?” “Fear not, dear, I think I may have just the being in mind.” Obi-Wan’s still grinning as he reaches over to pat Cody’s pec twice and then he’s rolling out of bed, ducking down to collect his threadbare lounge pants off the floor, and Cody narrows his eyes at him suspiciously as he ties them around his waist. “On one condition, though, I’m afraid. I’d very much like to play, too.” or Cody's Slut Era™ Is Equal Opportunity

Spore on the steam deck
so, i recently got a steam deck, and i also have the spore collection on gog, so obviously i was like "hell yeah lets get spore on the go"
i thought i could just install it and run, i could not. if you try, you'll get errors 2000 and 1004.
to fix this? well, i combined a couple guides i found here in the case that anyone here has the same problem (this should work for steam and gog, and *maybe* origin, the only thing that should be different is the file paths, and it should be the same for general linux desktops with different file paths). also some steps are only necessary for certain parts of it. i will put [SPORE] for base game, [GA] for galactic adventures, and [CC] for the parts pack
step 1) install the game [SPORE] [GA] [CC]
very simple step. on steam you just download it while in game mode (also download galactic adventures and the creepy and cute parts pack if you have those), and on gog you can use heroic launcher (which is what i used) or lutris (which i have never used, the only difference *should* be the file path which it might tell you).
step 2) edit the wine prefix registry [SPORE] [GA] [CC] and copy content [GA] [CC]
this is where the error 2000/1004 gets solved.
open the file "/home/deck/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/compatdata/17390/pfx/system.reg" if you are using steam, or "/home/deck/Games/Heroic/Prefixes/default/SPORE Collection/pfx/system.reg" if you are using gog. then, paste the following strings between any other pre-existing strings in that file:
[Software\Wow6432Node\electronic arts\spore] 1627191375 #time=1d78116fc363040 "appdir"="Spore" "datadir"="/home/deck/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/common/Spore/Data" "installcompleted"=dword:00000001 "installloc"="/home/deck/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/common/Spore" "locale"="en-us" "playerdir"="My Spore Creations" "reindexyesorno"=dword:00000000
if you only have the base game, this is all you need to do to get the game to load up properly (for other versions, replace the bits in datadir and installloc with the location you installed to)
[GA] you will also need to paste a second thing (again, anywhere between other things is fine):
[Software\\Wow6432Node\\electronic arts\\SPORE_EP1] 1240428288 #time=000000000 "AddOnID"=dword:00000002 "DataDir"="/home/deck/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/common/Spore/Data" "PackID"=dword:28448390
[GA] [CC] in the same directory folder as the Data folder, you will also see the DataEP1 [GA] and bp1content [CC]. copy EVERYTHING from inside these folders into the Data folder. after doing this, you can now access the expansion packs ingame, and id also recommend changing the aspect ratio (requires restart of the game to take effect)
step 2.5) get 60fps patch [SPORE] [GA] [CC]
this is relatively simple, go back into the Data folder, then open the Config folder. in this folder you should see three text files, ConfigManager, Properties, and VideoCards.
first, open ConfigManager, scroll all the way to the bottom, and ad the very bottom make a new line and type "intProp frameLimitMS 17" (without the quotation marks)
second, open Properties, scroll all the way down, at the very bottom make a new line and type "property frameLimitMS 44 int" (again without quotation marks)
after editing both of those files, save them and then you should be running the game at around 60fps
step 3) controller config and game mode access
if you are using a steam deck, you will probably want to access this in game mode. steam version has this there by default so that doesnt matter, but other versions need to be added. heroic launcher has an option to just add a game to steam in heroic, and then booting into game mode shows it there. not entirely sure about lutris but its probably the same.
once its there in the game mode (or for regular linux desktops, just edit the controller config from the steam desktop app for spore specifically) just open the controller configurator, set up the controls you like (you NEED bindings for left and right mouse buttons, scroll wheel, middle mouse click, and mouse movement, and i recommend also adding 1, 2, 3, 4, F1, F2, F3, F4, space, esc, p, shift, ctrl, backspace, alt, wasd, and enter), i personally used the joystick for wasd, dpad for f1-4, left trackpad as a dpad for 1-4, a and b for jump and enter, start and select as esc and p, right trackpad and right stick as mouse, triggers as click and everything else on the paddles.
after all that, you can now play spore on the steam deck (or any linux pc i think)
(please note that mods might not work unless they dont require galactic adventures because of how the galactic adventures data was moved to the base game bit, bot parts pack does work, but i couldnt get the patch that gives them the sing ability to work)
why did i go through all that to play spore in a car? who knows. why am i posting it here rather than reddit? because i dont use reddit anymore. is anyone reading this likely to care? probably not but theres always a chance.
anyways hope you enjoyed reading this (or the very small chance you were following along with this cause you really wanted spore on steam deck) and uh have a good day i guess

Okay, so my one-shot might not be a one-shot anymore
-----------------------
The first time Obi-Wan Kenobi sees CT-7567, he's balanced on Commander Wolffe's hip like he belongs there, the cadet pointing to a holographic map and giving intel about certain sections of Tipoca City. It was still alarming to hear the voice of a soldier come from the body of a child, and this one was screaming loss hurt anger into the Force that made his heart ache. Wolffe is relaying such intel to his troopers down on Kamino, and it takes a moment to register the Jedi had joined them with his ever-present shadow behind him.
"General, Cody." He nods, and the cadet looks up in curiosity. Kenobi could feel Cody suddenly radiate an innate need to protect this child, and knows things are about to become interesting. "The kih'vod has been helping us with some of the last strongholds."
"Very well, please continue...?"
"CT-7567." The cadet responds, and Kenobi wonders what name he'll be given one day. Cody, who usually stuck to his Jedi's side like glue, instead moved to stand beside Wolffe, who hands the cadet over without a moment's hesitation. In turn, Cody adjusts so 7567 is on his hip now, and the cadet is eyeing his golden armor with a dozen awed questions. The older clone just gives him a soft look, and 7567 turns to keep explaining the weaknesses that could be accessed, as gathering up Lama Su and his remaining doctors was critical for a complete takeover. He apparently had been good at sneaking around with his batchmates, and true to fashion, Lama Su is dismayed to find his secure bunker was quite the opposite. The cheers of thousands of clones rise up when he's secured, and Kamino was theirs, theirs to do with what they wanted, what they should have been able to.
Make it a home, rather than a place to suffer and be stifled.
7567 has no more tears to shed, watching through footage as Lama Su and the others were placed in cells for interrogation. He rests his head on Cody's shoulder, and the commander just murmurs something in Mando'a before adjusting his hold. Kenobi excuses himself so he can return to the city, leaving Wolffe and Cody with the young clone, and for a moment they stare at each other.
"Gree and Ponds are already on their way, I told them to meet us in your quarters," Cody speaks first, and Wolffe grumbles. "It's either that, or fight your wolf pack for the kid, like I don't feel them staring at me."
"Wolf pack?" 7567 asks, and Wolffe puffs out his chest, and some of the clones working on the bridge let out a few whoops.
"It's what we all call ourselves here." Wolffe grinned, and 7567 giggled a bit at how proud they all were. Cody just rolled his eyes, but the smirk on his face betrayed his amusement. There's a beep on Wolffe's comm, and he groans after reading the message.
"Kriffing Neyo heard about it, and he's coming with Monnk. Just how many commanders did you let in on this?" Cody had the decency to look sheepish, and the datapad in his hand becomes a shield.
"Well, I told Fox first..."
"No you didn't." It was no wonder some of the harder-to-reach CC's were poking their heads in. "You do know Neyo is an adenn chakaar when it comes to kih'vod's right? Fox needs to learn how to keep his mouth shut."
"Right, you tell that to the man in the worst position." Cody scoffed, and it was not long before the two devolved into a bitching fest, with 7567 watching with wide eyes.
He was learning so many curse words.
"Is THIS the one I've heard so much chatter about!?" Commander Bly had the subtly of a raging bantha, and there was some laughter from various clones as he practically force jumps his way across the bridge. "Let me see let me see!" 7567 doesn't get a chance to say anything when he's scooped up from Cody's hold, gripping onto armored arms as he's spun around with an excited gasp. His voice has the twinge of some accent 7567 has never heard before, and he finds he enjoys it almost immediately. "He's a blonde!"
"Careful, you'll fling him through a wall if you're not careful," Wolffe grumbled, but chuckles when the cadet grins at the new CC.
"I'm keeping him, it's official," Bly stated quite proudly, before grunting when someone slaps his helmet from behind.
"You don't get to decide this early." 7567 noted the CC who had smacked the now spluttering commander holding him was decked out in green, and recognized that he serves under a Jedi he had seen about a year prior on a rare stop on Kamino.
"Fox would rip you a new one if you did that before he got to see the kih'vod for himself." The one in green berates Bly, and the accented clone grumbles before setting the cadet down for the first time in hours.
"Is the Fox you keep mentioning the Coruscant Guard commander?" He feels a little awkward asking, but the various CC's nod in answer, and 7567 grins. "I've heard he's really cool."
"Fox? Cool? In what universe?" Bly cackles, removing his helmet to grin at the cadet, and his fellow leaders do the same. Despite each of them sharing the same face, 7567 can already pick out differences in each of their faces, and it reminds him of his batchmates.
No, he's not going to cry in front of all of them, not right now.
"He serves the Chancellor, and according to some...data we found, he gets to see all the Senators all the time!" 7567 is beaming as he rambles off what he knows, and every CC is suddenly transported to the times they were younger and a little more carefree before the war sunk its claws into them. 7567 doesn't see the way they look at each other, and what Wolffe saw in him was made solid for all of them.
"Sorry I'm late, someone wasn't in their barracks like the comm said."
Not a single soul on The Triumphant had ever seen so many commanders in one place before, and work was abandoned to watch one of the rarer clones grace their presence. Not many of them got to see one of the men hand-trained by Jango Fett himself, so comms are beeping all across the ship as those on the bridge recorded what they could, as well as sending said news out to the nearby other cruisers.
"Sorry Ponds, Bly here decided to ignore that, and here we are." Gree greeted, the two knocking their forearms against each other before Ponds looks down at the small clone, whose wide eyes are looking up at the recon expert.
"Blonde?" Ponds knelt down so the two were eye to eye, removing his helmet and setting it on the floor by his knee. "Lama Su hates blondes."
7567 didn't realize just how wide his eyes could go.
"I forgot you were blonde, the shiny dome makes one forget," Cody smirks, and there are more than a few snickers, including one from 7567. The commander just shrugs, and seems to just analyze the younger clone in front of him for a moment, before giving a small smile.
"You're going to have the most annoying adoptive ori'vod this side of the known universe." It's a statement more than an observation, and Ponds was never wrong. "I have spoken."
"Sir, Commander Fox sent word he'll arrive within a rotation, and to quote, "not let the others steal the kih'vod, or he'll have all caff allotments pulled'." A communications clone reported to the group, and he was trying very hard not to laugh.
"Not fair!" Bly complained, and the various commanders start bickering and laughing at each other all at once. 7567 is picked up by Ponds when he stands to join the fray, and for the first time since he had left that horrible room, it's like his batchmates are the ones bickering and laughing with him.
He doesn't realize he's fallen asleep, face buried into Ponds' chest plating like it's the most comfortable pillow in the world.
"I think he'll fit in just fine." Gree hummed, standing beside his friend as they watch the others bicker.
"He'll have to, we're not letting him go."

Headcanon - how did the gree go extinct?
😅 I can't tell if you want me to say "I don't know, how?" or link the Wikipedia article, but on looking through the article for the answer, I found out they're not! At the time of the Clone Wars, their culture is certainly endangered and they've lost a lot of knowledge and ability to work their ancient tech, but they're still alive. I did not know this, so thank you for bringing it to my attention.
Here's the link to the article and a copy of the relevant section:
In the final years of the Galactic Republic, the Gree were still best known as a species that had built a civilization that predated the Republic. As a result, the worlds of the Gree were considered a xenoarcheaologist's treasure trove that contained artifacts of exotic and advanced technology. These relics were guarded by a Gree culture which had degenerated to a point where they were no longer able to use much of their own technology. During the Rise of the Empire era, the glory days of the Gree were long over and their history and technological secrets mostly lost.
During the Separatist Crisis, Count Dooku formerly of the Jedi Order was sighted within the Gree Enclave where the Senate Bureau of Intelligence had reports of a man matching his description being on board the mobile Rokak'k Baran station. There were also claims of him utilizing a vessel with a particle-wake unlike any encountered before that led to Director Armand Isard commenting that contact was being made with Gree crafters to inquire if they knew anything about the technology employed. At this point in their history, the Gree still operated and built some unique items. Count Dooku's personal Geonosian solar sailer was fitted with an ancient, mysterious sail of Gree manufacture.
The Trident-class assault ships created by the Colicoid Creation Nest drew upon the ancient designs of the Gree Enclave. Midway through the Clone Wars, the Pollux Poi assassin droids were purchased by Count Dooku from the Gree and utilized on Jabiim. The Gree remained an obscure species, known only to specialists in alien cultures such as clone trooper commander CC-1004. CC-1004 adopted the name "Gree" to demonstrate his knowledge of galactic species, knowing that anyone who commented on his chosen name would share his interest in sentientology.
On the other hand, Gree were almost entirely unfamiliar with standard galactic technology. They were particularly contemptuous of droids, which were not a part of Gree technology. Modern Gree became reduced to mere caretakers of decaying wonders. First contact with the Gree by the Galactic Empire was made by Captain Marrix during a scouting expedition through their sector of space. He was apparently highly respected by the Gree to the point that he was allowed to visit their homeworld once. The Empire maintained a small consulate on Gree though there was no governor or garrison. The Imperial Consul-General maintained a small force under his command that included a Carrack-class light cruiser. Skalus served as the Imperial Consul-General on the Gree world of Asation.
(I would like to note that ancient Gree used foreign droids frequently to communicate with other cultures, as we see in Pat-aK (pot-ah-kay) and his cohort on Coruscant in Star Wars: The Old Republic. Pat-aK is in the Senate building and starts the planet story that's available to Republic classes. He and his cohort communicated almost exclusively in Gree color language, which was causing some difficulties the player character is able to solve.)
