About the Snowpoint au, I can't imagine how annoying/frustrating/terrifying the situation has to be for Shadow. Not only has Sonic been brainwashed by some unknown force, Shadow has to rescue him from a Hallmark movie.
shadow doesn't want to eat any of the food or drink any of the water or stop to close his eyes to rest AT ALL after his initial vibe check cuz like. at that point, he doesn't know what the fuck is going on, all he knows is that there's something sinister afoot. and if it's in the water, he won't be drinking it.
ofc, eventually, he gets worn down from the cold and the exertion of chasing sonic around and the way his whole body is tenser than a steel board. but he's still Ultimate, so not worn down ENOUGH to accept food from anyone other than his own hands.
hence... fuckin.......... shadow baking sequence LOL. sonic would be so THRILLEDDDDD about it cuz he'd take it as shadow finally being interested in some of snowpoint's culture but in reality shadow just wants a little snack and doesn't trust anyone other than himself to make it.
but he still needs sonic's help to get the stuff he needs TO make it and also maybe an oven to use or smth. so it's a team activity. just with shadow watching sonic like a hawk to make sure he's not slipping some sketch shit into his cookies (which he doesn't cuz that's not what's going on in snowpoint obv. but shadow doesn't know that yet)
so yeah. they end up with some baked goods and sonic is covered in flour and icing and shit and shadow shakes his fuckin head like. u are a Mess. and then sonic throws a handful of flour at him and shadow gets covered in it too and before he can even take a BITE of his epic snowpoint snacky(TM), they're tussling again. the antics truly never end...

CONSIDER… bunny boy Ukko-Pekka??
ANON UR BRAIN. he reminds me of those huge flemish giant rabbits i always see people manhandling and holding like stuffed animals :'')
Tumblr media
BIG GOALIE->BIG BUNNY
Tumblr media
LOOK HOW CUTE!!!!
He'd have these beautiful long silky ears that he has to meticulously brush every day because they always get mussed around by his helmet :( it can get kind of tiring/annoying but its okay bc his teammates are always down to help comb them (and sneak in a few pets in the process obvi).
okay and now because i'm a real angst luvr (tm) i'm imagining ukko-pekka being really insecure about how big he is, particularly because the sabres have another bunny on the roster who's a "normal" bunny size (i'm thinking 5'9" jacob bryson) and is like the platonic ideal of what people expect bunny boys to be like (small, docile, sweet, affectionate, small), and like, ukko-pekka is all of those things too, except not small, and he's really in his head about it so he gets mopey and stops initiating physical affection with the team because he thinks they're just indulging him out of pity.
What exacerbates this misunderstanding is that he's one of those bunnies who, when he binkies (which i found out recently is the term for when bunnies are so happy they just start jumping and twisting and zooming around because they can't sit still with how happy they are), he kinda runs away? (i did a little too much research for this maybe. BUT theres this bunny i found called jabba the rabbit who i believe is also a flemish giant, and apparently she likes to get chased when she binkies? like her owner pets her and she does the jumpy twisty thing and runs away, except she's not telling her owner she doesn't like it, she just likes to be chased and pet and chased again and pet again, etc. etc. its actually really cute! if her owner leaves she chases her back down to start the process again(video here). ANYWAY. I'm imagining that Ukko-Pekka's binkies are like this)
And the team doesn't know what him running away means (especially bc Brys' binkies are mostly contained to one place), so they always leave him alone after he runs away and waits to be chased the first time :( which he kind of just takes as confirmation that they see him as too much trouble and that thought immediately kills the happiness and desire to be pet he was feeling anyway so he doesn't return to the person who was just petting him, he just quietly goes back to what he was doing pre-binky except now he's sad and embarrassed and oh there his ears go drooping :((
eventually, of course, everything gets figured out and the team finds out how he's been feeling about all of this and he gets smothered in love and pats and reassurances that him being big is absolutely not a problem in any way (just more bunny to love!!) and he finally gets the courage to be like hey uh when i run away after you pet me can you. uh. follow? me? And everyone's like ??? we thought that was you telling us to stop? And now he's blushing because this is so so embarrassing to talk about so he pulls his ears down and hides his face in them as he explains that he likes it when he gets chased down and smothered in more pets because in those moments his body needs an outlet to express his contentment but he also doesn't want to stop getting pet :((
And after he explains himself everyone awws and hugs him and promises that they'll never leave him alone again and he grumbles but inside he's absolutely glowing :'')))

Main cast’s partner Pokémon/ Pokémon team?
Aughh, don't tempt me with a good time. You know what? I've had a difficult night and you asked for it. Prepare for FULL AU TIME.
This is set in Hoenn, since Ruby & Sapphire are my favorite games, but I'll be selecting Pokemon from all generations.
Pinepaw - The main character. 15 years old, setting out on his first solo Pokemon journey! He's on the trail of his uncle and grandmother, who disappeared from their hometown three months ago. Maybe it has something to do with the strange group that's been lurking around lately, Team Defiance...
His team: Buizel, Electrike, and Natu
Cormorantpaw - The rival. 16 years old, already bitter and full of anger at the world. A bit like Silver, you could think of him. He's quiet and mysterious, and always annoyed at running into Pinepaw again. But over the game, perhaps he begins to open up a little. What's with this kid?
His team: Murkrow, Poochyena, and Starly
Slugpelt - Pinepaw's mother. Of course she's there in the start of the journey, to see Pinepaw off. But after some time she begins to get worried about him, and after her daughters try to run away, she comes along to protect them as they chase after Pinepaw.
Her team: Mawile and Mismagius
Asphodelpaw - A haughty, snarky trainer. She likes to enter beauty contests, but throws a fit if she loses. Secretly, she's pretty worried about her brother, but would never let anyone know that. She only catches Pokemon she thinks are pretty or cute, and takes extremely good care of them.
Her team: Purrlion, Chikorita, and Petilil
Daffodilpaw - A bubbly, cheerful trainer. She loves to do Pokemon battles, but isn't very good at it. Still, she's a good sport. She was stung by a Skorupi when she was very young, and lost the use of her leg because of it. She's always fond of Pokemon that others think are "weird" or "ugly".
Her team: Numel, Shroomish, and Eevee
Egrettail - A sad, mysterious trainer who puts up a shockingly difficult battle. She appears several times throughout the journey, and you eventually learn she knows Cormorantpaw. And she seems to know quite a bit about Team Defiance...
Her team: Skarmory, Combusken, Herdier, and Scolipede
Rainhaze - Pinepaw's disappeared uncle, who sparks the journey. He was a kind man, one who loved to play with his sister's kids and helped out a lot around the town. Now he's gone, and no one knows what happened to him.
His team: Clefable, Zorua, Corsola, and Nincada
Nightberry - An old lady along the journey, who lives with her wife Cypressfoot and sells you TM disks and berries. However, you can battle her if she asks. She may make a cryptic prediction about your future.
Her team: Xatu, Chimecho, Swoobat, and Alakazam
Deepdark - The big boss at the end of the journey. A terrifying, cultlike man who seems more than willing to get his hands dirty. His moves are very unpredictable.
His team: Winter form Sawsbuck, Midnight form Lycanroc, Persian, Sandslash, and Dusknoir

Some more GoG and TMA crossover thoughts:
Hoole using Beholding powers to counter veiled insults and/or backhanded compliments - not out of active malice, but out of genuine confusion(at least the first few times): he's a very straightforward guy, so royal courtiers trying to play emotional 5d chess during a conversation would be annoying at best and deeply upsetting at worst for him. So, when he finds himself thinking about another conversation with an older noble where they were seemingly polite, but The Vibes(tm) felt off, and another courtier tries to talk to him, Hoole is having None Of That and tells the courtier "Just say exactly what you mean, for goodness sake!". It works like a charm, but the courtier is rattled to their bones afterwards (and probably spilled way too much tea about everyone's plans out of sheer anxiety).
Also: Hoole approaching avatars of other fears with an open mind - he pretty much thinks of them as potential friends/allies unless they prove themselves too hostile. (He also never really got the memo that avatar powers aren't supposed to manifest as early as they did for him - sometimes he unintentionally scares people by showing off).
Not unique to this AU, but: everyone roasting Lord Arrin. You know how in Elden Ring, when you sneak into Stormveil castle and talk to NPCs, they all say how they hate Godrick and how terrible of a lord he is? That's how Arrin's allies would talk about him. He's not a total idiot, he's actually pretty good at being a noble and running a domain, but he is also very good at getting at everyone's nerves and not noticing it until its far too late.
Arrin picking absolutely worst people to get into verbal duels with and getting his ass handed to him on a platter. He once tried insulting Hoole with "Where are your manners, have you been raised by wolves?" only to get "Why, yes; say hello to all my honorary cousins! *wide gesture at the wolves of the Beyond*" followed by the slyest I see what you're doing and I'm having none of that look from Hoole. This isn't even the first time Arrin tried "Have you been raised by [insert species]?" line and got destroyed with the comeback.
Seriously, this guy gets roasted behind his back so much(particularly by his hagsfiend allies), and most of it is deserved.
Speaking of which: Penryck keeps the somewhat unstable gathering of clan warriors and stragglers from fighting each other or Arrin's army. This man is going to have a back pain from carrying this alliance so far. He originally planned to team up with Arrin's son, Baldr(he has no canon name, so I picked one), but that didn't work quite as well as he thought: Baldr supports Penryck's plans at Arrin's meetings, but they are still kind of isolated from most other warlords (they're winning the younger ones over, but it is a slow process)
Penryck actually worked with Ullryck, Ygreek and Pleek before Arrin's rebellion - just not at the same time. Once Arrin made it clear that he's hiring hagsfiends, Penryck reached out to them - recruiting the best assasin and the best tracker in the field (technically, he's also marked by The Hunt and can track people pretty well, but his main fear entity is still the Slaughter, so he'll gladly outsource tracking and chasing to someone he trusts.) Not really related to the Fears, but: he has an accent - it is pretty subtle, but he sometimes puts on an exagerrated version of it specifically to annoy Arrin.
Kreeth is both a local cryptid of the Ice Narrows and a very common point of connection between other hagsfiends: she deals in Fear-affiliated artifacts, among other things. According to the wildest rumours, she can remove Fear marks - she never gives a clear answer if you ask her, though. (She can't actually remove the marks, but can sort of cover them up with new ones)

Responding to your tags on this post, got way to long so I'm making a separate post, @no-mere-mortals
This also isn't me trying to like be rude or anything I've just read a lot of comics with Dick so I think I can give a good analysis and show his response concisely (or well, this will be long but it's easier than reading a bazillion comics).
So without further ado, Dick's reaction to Jason's death, how he found out, what he felt, and why, with as much canon context as I can fit into a semi-reasonably length post:
Jason died while Dick was on a mission on another planet, right at the end of the Who is Donna Troy (take like 29384, I'm exaggerating but her backstory is ridiculously complicated and this is not the first time they did one of these) event. For context: Dick's been living and working with the Titans for a few years, Robin!Jason occasionally pops up in the comic (notably, he joined the Titans to help save Dick from Brother Blood).
So it makes sense, then that Jason is in the Titans files. Enter Danny Chase, a younger teenager about Jason's age. As previously mentioned the Titans are in space, but Danny being younger, Dick orders him to stay home because he doesn't want him to get hurt on an interstellar mission. Danny is bored. He's a pretty cocky kid, he's hyper competent but also hyper annoying. So he does what any bored overpowered teen would do and starts going through the Titans files to make his own team because those losers left him behind. (Following panels are from The New Titans #52)
Tumblr media
When he tries Robin, it comes in as reclassified and he's like whoops. Jason is stored under Robin-2, and his status comes up as unknown.
Tumblr media
Danny's confused by this, the computer updated through some external system, and no news had come to the tower about Jason, who he saw last week:
Tumblr media
There's not actually panels of these two hanging out, I'd argue that it's implying that Jason comes and hangs out with the Titans semi-frequently and Dick and Jason likely hung out with each other the week before Jason died. Also Danny calls Jason the Toddster which is hilarious but besides the point.
Dick doesn't find out that Jason's died until The New Teen Titans #55 when (because Danny is an asshole) this exchange takes place.
Tumblr media
From here, things start spiraling (I'm showing things in what I believe is chronological order)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Dick is pretty devastated by Jason's death. A lot of fans assumes that because Dick and Bruce were somewhat estranged, that extended to Dick and Jason - and at the time of Jason's death, just like in current comics that's not true. I would say it's somewhat analogous to having an older sibling in college that you get to go visit a bunch (pre-crisis, with innocent Jason had Dick actually coming home a bunch, it's post-crisis where they start setting up Dick and Bruce as estranged and Jason as the violent one tm). These comics are post crisis yes, but they didn't erase Jason being semi-close/visiting the Titans. When Dick mourned Jason, he mourned the person, not the brother he never had or being like it's sad a child died (I would say that's more akin to Tim mourning Damian).
Now to your point, Dick feeling guilty. He does initially. Visiting Jason's grave with Kory, there's the following exchange (again in The New Titans #55):
Dick: I gave Jason my old Robin costume. I should have been there, Kory.
Kory: It's not your fault.
Dick: Maybe not. But that doesn't make it any easier.
Dick know the guilt he's feeling is irrational, but again that doesn't get rid of the feelings. He's pretty messed up by Jason's death, as Kory remarks to herself later:
Kory: He hasn't been the same since he found out about Jason. Oh, Dick -- I know you were Robin. I know what it means to you that the new Robin died. I know you feel like part of you died, too -- but it wasn't you, honey. Robin died. But you didn't. You're still alive honey.
At the end of this scene, Dick decides to go talk to Bruce, partially about the fact that Bruce didn't even try to contact him and we get this (warning for abuse) scene (also from The New Titans #55).
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
So before his guilt was mainly, “I gave Jason my suit” which is pretty much his stamp of approval (even in retellings where Bruce gives Jason the name Robins, which is all but one, Dick gives Jason his old costume as sort of an acceptance of Jason in the role). Which he knows is irrational, because Bruce made Jason a vigilante, not him, and Jason would have died whether he was in another suit or not. But now adding this conversation into the mix, it becomes “I left Bruce, so Jason had to replace me.” to which, Dick again knows is illogical, because that was Bruce’s choice not his and he does defend himself because he knows that accusation is wrong. And then it becomes “Taking me in made Bruce weak” and “you never actually even cared about him” (which especially in this continuity) which again are both false. But it’s coming from Bruce, someone Dick loves and respects and that’s hurtful and words like this have a lasting impact. You can see just how defeated and small Dick feels, curling up into a ball at the end. My point being, not all of the guilt came from Dick. Dick reacted like anyone would, “I should have been there”. But Bruce blamed Dick, not all of the guilt comes from Dick himself.
We see Kory commenting again on how Dick’s changed since seeing Bruce (still New Titans #55)
Tumblr media
And we see that Jason’s death, has made Dick view having side-kicked aged partners in a worse light, and maybe partially because of feeling responsible for Jason, he realizes he can’t be responsible for Danny anymore.
Tumblr media
And you can see that Bruce’s words hit home because he’s considering that Bruce taking him in may have been a mistake as well.
Tumblr media
Now at this point Kory realizes there’s something wrong with Dick, and she intervenes (mentioned in New Titans #56) and he ends up going to see a therapist. Chronologically, Secret Origins Annual #3 comes after he starts going to therapy (but before we’ve actually seen him in therapy).
The issue starts with Kory and Dick going on a date, and Dick going home because he feels awful (he blames a stomach virus, so we can assume he physically feels terrible as well as mentally).
Tumblr media
The context that comes around that hallucination, is that he’s being attacked by Gargoyle and the Anti-thesis, who have personal grudges against him, and draw him into limbo once he falls asleep to mess with him (and eventually kill him). The reason as stated at the end is his weakened mental state.
Tumblr media
It’s also confirmed that things got bad enough for Dick to be using sleeping pills, canonically in response to Jason’s death here, as well as the fact that he’s not super bothered by like hallucinating a person in his mirror painting not the greatest picture of Dick’s mental health.
Anyways, time for guilt tripping.
Tumblr media
It’s notable that though he’s not the ones making the words, the words are having an effect, and it can be assumed he feels as if he failed Jason. An interesting parallel that can be drawn with Jason, is that Dick has had teenagers die while on his team before.
Tumblr media
So it’s possible that guilt over Tara could mix in and influence his feelings towards what happened with Jason. And it’s actually being blamed for Jason’s death that allows him to start turning things around, because again, he knows that Jason’s death isn’t his fault.
Tumblr media
And he’s right. The Titans did need him. He loves a lot of people, and he can’t be everywhere at once. And what’s further is that he doesn’t blame Bruce for Jason’s death after that conversation in the cave. With the help of his friends, they defeat the nightmare scenario and Dick reaffirms his love for them and they go to the tower to party, and this is where Dick starts turning things around.
Now back to The New Titans #56 we get to see Dick go to therapy and work through his feelings about the whole situation.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And here we have Dick talking about his guilt again. Standing away from it, he knows it’s not his fault, but in the beginning he felt guilty, which has been compounded by the two external incidents with Bruce and Gargoyle - even he knows both of them were in the wrong to blame him.
I guess, my point is with all of this, is that most of the fandom assumes that Dick is the type of person to feel guilty for no reason (to some extent he does have a “tendency towards self blame”), and even if fans understand that Dick and Jason had a good relationship, they tend to make him feel guilty without understanding where that guilt was coming from. Dick’s reaction to Jason’s death is sometimes framed as Dick feeling bad because he didn’t do enough - but he did do enough, and there was nothing he could have done. It’s much more a case of Dick blaming himself, and that blame being reinforced by those around him, his friends helping him realize that he needed help, and him getting that help and being able to recover.
Honestly, I also think these comics handle the blame of Jason’s death the best, because later literally everyone will go onto blame Jason for his own death, but these comics pointed the blame at the adults for letting him become a vigilante in the first place - they show Bruce’s justification for having Jason in the first place (things worked fine with Dick, he was lonely and needed a partner, Jason could be the same right?) and Dick turning away from the idea of having child sidekicks (after this comes Tim’s introduction, and it seems Dick’s position slides to, well, if Bruce is going to take on a kid, I will do everything i can to help train them so they don’t die, which is logical, and isn’t some big betrayal to his morals - he can’t really stop Bruce and he does tell Tim to go home, Tim just won’t - but Dick not wanting to be responsible for child heroes comes up again, in his reluctance to be a mentor for the young justice gang). Because this is from the Titan/Dick’s perspective, the comic was allowed to challenge Bruce and Dick in a way that other comics couldn’t.
As for Dick being clingy after Jason comes back uhhh I’ll analyze Brothers in Blood another day 💀, but currently their relationship is on good terms, Dick’s not overly clingy, nor canonically has he ever been like that (he’s actually probably the best at emotional intelligence out of the batkids and gives family members space if they need it, he shows up when Jason needs him and doesn’t come barging in uninvited). What can I say, they’re brothers.

Leverage: The 12 Steps Job
It‘s been a while since I‘ve done one of these, but I‘m rewatching Leverage yet again (SHOW, I MISSED YOU) and here are plenty of things I love about ‚The 12 Step Job‘: I love…
… The montage of Hurley in the car and how he walks into his office. Man, that is one NEAT character introduction because when you first watch this, of course he could pass as an absolute jerk and the baddie of the week – despite the client‘s description of him as enthusiastic and sweet. But at the same time this is just how he is later on in this ep and when he returns in The Boys‘ Night Out Job: An absolute slob and a complete mess but also very congenial (how much he knows about all his co-workers? Sweet) and with his heart in the right place.
… Nate being a complete dick and so fucking in denial about his alcohol problem here. I haven‘t watched season one in a while and it‘s so interesting how his and Sophie‘s relationship is so different here (the biggest shift of course being between s2 and s3 where Nate decides to take a vacation in prison and Sophie runs the crew in the meantime – this changes things forever). But it‘s so cool how Gina‘s acting walks the thin line between being the one who is absolutely in the right here and being just that bit annoying that allows Nate to justify implying that she‘s overly dramatic
… Eliot‘s hair is ON FIRE in that episode, wow and that blue shirt *chef‘s kiss*
… how the team works together in figuring out where Hurley might be. Yes, it‘s season one and Nate is very much calling the shots – and he is the one narrowing it down here – but Eliot and Hardison specifically absolutely pitch in.
… Sophie‘s and Eliot‘s little eyeroll at Hardison‘s dropping strip club knowledge
… ‘if Billy was a drunken sex fiend’ – hahaha, Parker, spot on as always – and Eliot‘s and Hardison‘s responding expressions. Come on, boys, don‘t deny it, you‘re in love with her already.
… that look on Nate‘s face when he figures out how to find Hurley. His whole expression changes, his gaze focusses, he leans forward and that drunken haze is gone for the moment
… how Eliot and Hardison constantly share the same frame <3
… Eliot‘s little DELIGHTED smile. Okay, his and Hardison‘s delight in strip joints doesn‘t quite fit later seasons, so we all can just agree that Hardison asking for change for 100 in singles is just because they really want to tip generously for the chicken wings there or something :)
… Eliot‘s and Hardison‘s synchronized walk off
… ‘Don‘t get mad, Eliot, I may have spilled slushie in your car’ and his badly acted expression of contrition hahaha, no one is buying that, Hardison
… Eliot and Hardison being extremely sexy in sitting in Eliot’s car (and as so often, look at the perfect way that shot is lit! Hardison’s and Eliot’s faces both fricking glow)
… very smartly dressed random thugs
… the messy way the fight scene is shot – close ups and very wobbly camera moves, and how you can still tell how efficiently Eliot fights and how… well not all that efficiently Hardison is. And yes, again, it’s season one, so Hardison grabs the gun and shoots it, too, instead of just sitting back and chilling while he watches Eliot beat people up (which is way better than the strip joint idea anyway)
… Eliot being annoyed with Hardison
… ‘Is he sleeping?’ LOL, yes, Sophie, that’s why Hurley is using the air bag as a pillow
… Nate looking progressively more like the absolute mess he is as the episode progresses
… - how confusing is it that Sterling’s Theme is used and Sterling isn’t immediately around the next corner? That is SO cool because yes, he shows up later, or rather: withdrawal!Nate hallucinates him; and so his theme music this early in the episode is almost like foreshadowing
… everyone in group therapy apparently understanding Sam perfectly well aside from Nate
… Parker having to read from the cheat sheet she wrote onto her lower arm to get her three-sentence-character-intro right
… Hurley’s massive list of addiction, with the climax of “Tacos”
… “Uh-huh” - and Sophie and Nate having another fight while everyone else in the group is already tired of it. Especially Parker, if one were to judge by her VERY subtle expressions.
… Parker aggressively chewing on the meds the doctor gave her. I absolutely LOVE the way she constantly gives other people this uncensored WTF-look in season one
… Eliot being smart in the parking lot. I have so much love and respect for how that’s played here again – Eliot is the one who has to have 360 vision, it’s his job to anticipate problems in all forms and sizes
… Hardison’s bricks-on-the-seat plan. That’s so great because he might be the smartest guy Eliot knows TM, but he is fucking afraid here and panicking and that’s not conducive to coming up with super clever plans, is it?
… Hardison and Eliot working together while bitching at one another - “Yes, there are a lot of wires! It’s a Com-Pu-Ter!!”
… Hardison’s brain rebooting as he figures out that it’s a computer bomb and the system needs to be re-booted
… Eliot trusting Hardison’s knowledge, and Christian’s acting here – knowing Hardison is right, being low key annoyed by it, being just a bit unsettled (that lip quiver!) “Run that sack of bricks by me again...” - “Are you ready?” - “NO!”  and his trembling hand - he is so good at rapidly changing expressions and tones
… “I’m gonna go and freshen up a little bit. Maybe cry a little”
… Hardison thinking on his feet and that sweet Jamaican accent – Eliot thinking that is sexy, and backing him up with a bomb
… and again, Kane’s acting – that beat and that look before he says “Sure” when Hardison asks whether he’d have saved him as well
… Nate’s withdrawal. So well done. Over all, the show is SO good at showing that alcoholism is a sickness and a serious problem, even if (especially if!) Nate doesn’t acknowledge it
… HARDISON AND ELIOT’S DATE AT THE RECEPTION DESK. - So, while in the scene before, Hardison takes the lead in acting their way out of the situation, here it’s Eliot by shamelessly flirting with the receptionist. And Hardison’s FACE throughout this. Like, bro, do we have time for this? DO WE? - And then “I’m with him”. And Eliot trying so hard not to burst into laughter, especially when Hardison is doing that thing he is famous for which is shamelessly over-acting just to piss Eliot off. - The ringing of the reception bell and “Bring yo ass”. And none of that even being mentioned in the next scene. - So much quality content in this episode.
… Sophie taking over for Nate when Nate very obviously can’t, and her tone of voice changing to what we’ll get to know from season three Sophie
… Parker coming up with a believable story and selling it. Up to the point where her make believe parents found gold under their trailer…
… Nate’s withdrawal getting worse, Tim’s acting is brilliant here.
… Sophie talking differently to Nate than before. Yes, she still seems to focus on Nate and how Nate is being a dick to them and particularly her, but her voice is different and she uses the real emotion between her and Nate’s exchange to get what they need from Hurley; the list of people he wronged. Brilliant little twist here, because of course Sophie is focused on the con and on helping their client, especially now that Nate is threatening to lose his focus entirely
… that Genesis? Veeeeery subtle product placement, Leverage hahaha
… “I checked your notes - he seems like a deeply troubled man” - Thank you, doctor, yeah. Nate IS a deeply troubled man. And again: Nate’s withdrawal getting much worse, and the con threatening to get out of hand. I said it before, and I’ll say it again: It’s really great how they used this episode to focus so much on Nate’s alcoholism. It’s something so important not only for later seasons but also for the upcoming s1 finale, and we’ve watched enough episodes at this point that we understand WHY this happened to him. And this episode doesn’t offer an easy fix, nor do the following seasons. “Just give me something to do” is what Nate says here, and Sophie has to decide whether or not this is really the right thing to do
… “He is an addict, he knows how to manipulate people, my father was an addict, my grandfather was an addict, I know how these people operate” - yes, Nate, we know who you’re talking about. And so does Sophie
… Sterling as the one Nate hallucinates. Because Sterling knows him, because they used to be friends, because Sterling is as ruthless as Nate is (well, nearly), because Nate is still projecting and in denial that he is in fact talking about himself. So what does he do? He imagines his former friend who is now on the other side, chasing him. - I’m not too big a fan of Sterling in later seasons but this is such a STELLAR use of his character, and Mark’s acting is brilliant here, and so is, of course, Tim’s.
… “Knocking on heaven’s door” - ouch
… Nate’s aggression towards Hurley, first in a physical form and that is scary but also less dangerous because it’s unfocused; and then when his mind has something to focus on, that sharp sharp focus – fuck, he’s one scary dude indeed, it’s rather disconcerting that one is looking at Hurley for emotional reassurance in this scene…
… Parker’s strange walk because of her meds and the return on her focus when her thief-self kicks back in
… “If you’re doing it to help someone, doesn’t that make it okay?” Good question, Hurley. Your answer, Nate?
… Nate shoving Hurley in the hallway rather than explaining what’s going on. Funny, and sliiiightly sloppy, Mr Ford
...Tacos :)
… Eliot and Hardison sharing the same level of annoyance and then acceptance. So in tune in this episode, these two
… re-using that bomb. Everyone does their part in sustainability and careful usage of resources ;)
… the thugs thinking the bomb thing was done by the Jamaicans, aka Hardison and Eliot
… Eliot’s and Hardison’s reservations in the flashback. “Uh---why?” from Hardison and Eliot’s emphatic headshake
… the cash in the tire. Very practical choice, Hurley
… HURLEY JUST WANTS A HUG
… Hardison going the extra mile with Hurley’s new identity by getting him a gym membership
… Parker’s brilliant drawing!!!
… Parker smelling the Sharpie
… Parker running, PARKER HUGGING ELIOT AND HARDISON!!!! OT3!!!
… and that song, that is a variation of “What shall we do with the drunken sailor”, right?
Seriously, this is such a dark episode for Leverage standards because of that focus on Nate’s addiction, and yet, it’s counterbalanced by so much Hardison/Eliot fun and competence porn, by Sophie’s strength and by the fact that the villain of the week has a redemption arc. I love this show so much and this mix shows why again; such a delicate balance, so beautifully handled

Bug Run 5: A Clean Victory
There was something I needed to do before going any further in this game.
I made a little visit to the Name Rater.
Truth is, I was never satisfied with the nickname I gave my Galvantula OR my Crustle. For Galvantula, it was just such a plain and common name, and she deserved better. For Crustle, her name was alright, but a little too long and awkward to say outloud, you know?
Tumblr media
After christening the new names, we were prepared to tackle anything!
However, the moment I took a step toward my next destination, I ran into my rival. The encounter was a tad unnerving, which is the only reason I bother to mention it here. Tonka took care of my rival’s bird with Rollout just fine, so that wasn’t so bad. (Yes, I know. I still had Rollout. What can I say? It takes a while for Scoliopede to earn its better moves, and in the meantime, a rock move really is darn useful.)
It was Emboar that worried me. This was the first time I was facing it fully evolved, and the thing is damn intimidating even for a very balanced team, let alone a mono-bug one. My newly-named Crustle, Gaia, went toe-to-toe with the massive swine, dishing out Rock Slides. Emboar decided to use Rollout and start powering the move up on me. So that was a pretty scary moment. Thankfully, Gaia did not miss any of her Rock Slides, and the pig went down. The last foe, that water monkey, was trivial when I had a Leavanny with Leaf Blade.
The next gym we faced was the dragon-themed gym with Drayden. I noticed there was a big of a level jump with that gym, though, with just the gym trainers outlevelling my team. So I decided to do a little grinding beforehand. In our travels I taught Volcarona Psychic, because at this point, the poor moth’s moveset is still quite terrible. (It still had String Shot and Whirlwind, for pete’s sake.) I also taught my Galvantula Thunder and … well, Flash. I didn’t want to teach it Flash, but I was wandering around a cave attempting to reach some TMs. Sadly, a roadblock prevented me from ultimately getting the TM, but we’ll talk more about that later.
After a little training, the fight with Drayden wasn’t too bad. Ra took out Druddigon with Psychic, Green Bean got a 2HKO on Flygon with Leaf Blade– after a lucky miss with Flygon’s Rock Slide– and Tonka took on the big boy Haxorous with a combination of Toxic and Venoshocks.
Tumblr media
After finishing off the dragon gym, we’re treating to another piece of the plot with Team Plasma. Some giant steampunky ship shoots ice cannons at the city, there’s a lot of running around and shouting over some “DNA Splicers,” and lots of grinding on Plasma grunts. The usual.
I MUST take important note of one event that took place in the midst of all this, though. As I was running back and forth between Pokecenters and the Plasma ship, I ran into a random trainer with just a Crustle. And it wiped out my entire team.
The problem had been it got off two Shell Smashes and I hadn’t been paying it close attention and was fooling about. So, naturally, it outsped everything and destroyed us with rocks. Also, I was super dumb and forgot my Galvantula had Sucker Punch. (Look, it was really late at night and I was tired and being stoop.)
Wounded by this experience, I took a lengthy side-quest to grind for Blue Shards by losing many times at the World Tournament (they give shards as consolation prizes) so I could visit the Move Tutor and give my Scolipede Superpower. This is actually only neutral on Crustle and in the end I still needed to use my own Crustle v. Crustle to take care of the foe cleanly, but. Still. Superpower would end up proving very important on my Scoliopede. I suspected as much, as it was excellent coverage for a team largely lacking coverage.
Anyway. I finally reached the Colress fight.
This was a fun one. I had to actually think very carefully about his team. Colress opens with a Magnemite that loves to thunder wave and then Volt Switch. I eventually decided to try equipping Green Bean with a Cheri Berry and getting up a Swords Dance. Then he just stubbornly hacked away with his Leaf Blade. This is a very difficult approach, but it was important for someone to take out the ‘easy’ pokemon so I could save my other pokes for the tougher ones. Colress used a Full Restore once on Magnemite, so after that, I did the same for Green Bean. Then continue with the Leaf Blades. Green Bean somehow barely takes two Flash Cannons to the face and finishes Magnemite off, in red health and paralyzed, but alive. He did a very good job.
Next, Magnezone came out. This one was for Tonka. Superpower brought it to the low yellow, and then Magnezone thunder waves. I have to take a big hit, but a second Superpower takes Magnezone out.
Beheeyem is the easiest for my team to cope with, being pure Psychic with low defense. It does Calm Mind, which can be scary, but I can easily take it out before it does anything awful; Gaia just X-Scissors it to death.
Metang, on the other hand, is not easy. Zen Headbutt messes with Tonka, Meteor Mash cuts through Gaia and gives scary boosts, and the thing has ROCK SLIDE to add insult to injury; plus Agility. With a Steel typing, it resisted a lot of crap, too.The trick, as it turns out, was fucking it up fast and hard with F-Zero’s Thunder before it could do much damage. Thunder brought it to the low yellow and luckily paralyzed it; Signal Beam finished it off.
The ace was Klinklang. I find it odd this pokemon is pure steel when it has so many electric moves, but okay. F-Zero uses Thunder, which brings it into the yellow and paralyzes again (whoo!). Klinklang Shift Gears. I know it resists bug so I need to Thunder again; unfortunately I get the miss. However, the foe gets paralyzed. I Thunder again and finish things off.
Tumblr media
It was a good battle, but Team Plasma wasn’t finished quite yet. We run into the true man behind the scenes, the foul abusive-parent Ghetsis, and chase him off his ship and into some backwater cave somewhere.
Then N shows up, there’s some drama with legendery dragons, and Ghetsis is very cranky about the whole thing. Without giving us a chance to even save or anything, he launches right into attacking us.
Not gonna lie, this last fight is exciting and the music is damn good. It feels high-stakes.
Ra was first out, since I’d just used him to take care of Kyurem. He was able to take care of Confagrigis with some Psychics– although we had to get toxiced and put up with a full restore, but held on long enough to take it out. A special defense drop did help us.
Next out was Hydreigon; Green Bean used X-Scissor. After that was Eelektross, and I was fearing the Flamethrower, so I sent out Gaia. It’s a bit rough, with thunderbolts and acrobatics, but it never actually pulls out the flamethrower and I finish it off. After that is Seismetoad; that’s easy as pie with a grass move.
Drapion is out next, and I really want to use Psychic on it, but Ra is pretty weak from his long fight with Confagrigis. I try it out, but he’s outsped, as I suspected. Dang. I send out Green Bean next, and take it out with three X-Scissors.
Toxicroak is handled cleanly with Thunder. And then that’s it!
Tumblr media
In retrospect, the battle didn’t give me any trouble. But somehow they still made it feel exciting. Possibly it’s just because I remember the fight vs. Ghetsis from original Black/White, which really left an impression on me.
Tumblr media
(Lord N was there to talk to me after the battle. Still love him so much.)
After the Plasma plot wraps up, we move on to Victory Road. And that’s when I run into some trouble.
See, the plan all along had been to add my sixth and final teammember at Victory Road. That is where Durant, a super-late-game bug, hangs out. The problem is, I was playing Pokemon White 2, and apparently they tweaked it so that you can’t even reach Durant until post-game.
That really stinks! I have no idea why they did that, but I decided I wasn’t going to let a technicality like that slow me down. Like previous game runs I’ve done, if a particular version I was playing didn’t technically have full access to the species I needed for a bug run, I … bent the rules slightly.
Tumblr media
So we snuck into Clay Tunnel. This trip was only for one thing: capture a Durant. We grabbed the first one we saw. She was lovely, and we named her Kolibri. She didn’t have Hustle, and honestly? I think I’m ok with that. Missing is pretty darn annoying.
Once we had our final team member, it was all about going through Victory Road and doing a little grinding. We met our rival one last time along the way. His Emboar was tough enough by now that it could shrug off Gaia’s Rock Slides. So I went with a new tactic, using Volcarona’s Psychic. The rest was easy enough to deal with. Then it was on to the Elites!
Tumblr media
(MIGHTY BUG POWER DETECTED!)
Unfortunately, I made a mistake when I was grinding before facing the Elites. I thought they would be around level 60, so I brought my team all to level 60. As it turns out, no. They were all in the high 50s. So I was ever-so-slightly overlevelled.
Not a huge deal, but it is a shame. I really prefer to never be over-levelled, even by a little bit. Unfortunately there wasn’t much I could do about it.
The Elites were not too hard. Shauntal’s fight was kind of fun. Ra took on Confagrigis with Heat Waves, but got a Spec. Def drop with a Shadow Ball, so I had to switch out when Chandelure came in. I decided to bring Tonka in. As cruel as it sounds, Tonka was kind of expendable against this particular team. I got a Toxic off before going down, though. Ra came back in to blast with Psychics for neutral damage, but unfortunately the darn thing was hitting all its Fire Blasts and it got a crit, so Ra went down. Luckily it was injured enough that F-Zero could finish things off. Golurk was easy pickings for a Leaf Blade, and Drifblim went down to a Thunder.
Marshal fight had Tonka doing some work on the opening Throh. I feared Guts on Conkeldurr, and sent out Kolibri; however, it did not fare well against those Hammer Arms. Thankfully those moves dropped Conk’s speed, though, so I felt safe bringing Ra in, even against the inevitable Full Restore, and I could just Psychic. (See, at the time, I didn’t realize that thing is actually slow as dirt anyway.) The rest of the team was an easy clean-up, especially when Meinshao misses its High-Jump Kick and I put a Rock Wrecker in its face.
Tumblr media
It may not be very effective, but nobody’s surviving a boulder to the face at half health.
Since the other two Elites are Psychic and Dark type, I don’t think I even need to bother mentioning their fights. With a full team of Bug types, it was pretty trivial to get through.
The Champion battle was decently difficult, so I was glad it wasn’t too anti-climactic. Tonka used X-Scissor on Hydreigon and managed to tank a Flamethrower– in the very low yellow health, after Leftovers. He finished the dragon off and Druddigon was out next. I honestly forget what I did with that fellah. I probably used F-Zero against him. Aggron was out next, so I went with my special attacker Ra. Heat Wave did a respectable chunk, but Rock Slide was, of course, a death sentence for Volcarona. Knowing that the Full Restore was incoming, I sent Tonka out and potioned up too. Then I used Superpower, which ALMOST killed. Tonka goes down and I clean up with F-Zero.
Archeops is next; one Rock Wrecker is all it takes, after Gaia survives the Rock Slide. Very happy Gaia hit all of her Rock Wreckers when she needed to.
Lapras was a bit of a troll. I sent out F-Zero, confidant in one-shotting the beast with Thunder, but it didn’t quite kill and it used freaking Hypnosis on me. Urgh. Swapped over to Kolibri and took a Surf very badly but finished Lapras off.
Finally, the ace, Haxorous. I sent out Green Bean. It was a tough choice, knowing this thing was probably going to Dragon Dance, and that was pretty scary. She could have easily gotten her late-game sweep if I let things get out of hand; my team was already weakened a bunch. I decided to get a Reflect up. I think that ultimately saved my butt. It did use Dragon Dance as predicted, and Green Bean used one X-Scissor before going down to an X-Scissor of Haxorous’ own. Then I sent the low-health Gaia in. He managed to survive the Earthquake thanks to Reflect and finished Haxorous off with an X-Scissor. (Yes, that’s an awful lot of X-Scissors going ‘round, but to be fair, this *is* a mono bug team)
Tumblr media
And that’s it for Pokemon White 2! It was a fun little romp, but I admit it was very easy. I did expect that, though. Oh well! Maybe next time, if I’m hunting for a challenge, I can do that all-Vivillon run of X/Y I keep considering. :P

Pokemon Shield playthrough - Part 4
Sorry it’s been a while, but I’m back with another post. This one covers getting the first Gym badge.
First, let’s hang out the the Wild Area on this beautiful evening.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Hanging out in the camp. My Pokemon can get quite competitive seeing who can get the ball first.
Tumblr media
It’s weird seeing this fiery coal monster playing happily.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Okay, enough of that. It’s time to enter the mines.
Tumblr media
It’s really pretty in here, with gemstones practically falling out of the walls. I don’t think real mines are /quite/ this abundant.
Also, this is the first cave area in the game, and it’s where you realize that there are no true “random” battles in the game  - you can always see the Pokemon coming and have a chance to get away. It makes the cave more exciting, seeing Pokemon chasing after you.
Tumblr media
A secret exit leads to this TM.
Tumblr media
Oh, also apparently the “headphones” item I got earlier just lets you adjust sound levels in the options. Not sure why they would make that an in-game unlockable instead of just being there from the start...
Tumblr media
Some more screenshots of the lovely mines. I bet Sableye love this place.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I acquire what seems to be a new type of hold item. When I first saw “heavy boots”, I thought of the Water Temple in Ocarina of Time ;)
Tumblr media
Oh, and I finally get to fight this guy. The developers seem to have deliberately made him as aggravating as possible.
Tumblr media
He seem to be on a mission to collect Wishing Stars, which are (iirc) what powers the Dynamax bands. Is he trying to keep other trainers from having access to Dynamax, thus reducing their chances of winning the Gym Challenge? Or maybe he’s collecting them to power something else, perhaps on behalf of the Chairman?
Tumblr media
He uses this really weird new Pokemon, that seems like it might be a Psychic-type, or maybe Fairy. What’s up with the hat it wears?
Tumblr media
Finally, I reach the end of the mines. It was actually a pretty short trip - I hope future dungeons have more to do.
Tumblr media
Out in the sun again on Route 4. It’s a route of gentle hills and golden grain, with Turffield nestled in a bowl in the middle.
Tumblr media
I’m happy to see that you can encounter Eevee in the wild again, making it much easier to get all of its evolutions.
Tumblr media
Pumpkaboo reappear, and they still come in different sizes.
Tumblr media
And here’s a surprise - a Galarian Meowth! My Mystery Gift Meowth didn’t look like this, so I was never expecting to see /another/ regional variant for this Pokemon. It looks like something from “Where the Wild Things Are”.
Tumblr media
This variant is a Steel-type, weirdly enough. It has a massive beard too. I wonder what on earth Galarian Persian looks like?
Tumblr media
And here’s the mascot himself, ladies and gentlemen. It weirds me out how Pikachu and Eevee have the voice-acted cries; while all the other Pokemon get their naturalistic, animal-sounding cries. I wonder how all of Eevee’s evolutions will sound?
Tumblr media
Our first true meeting with Milo.
Tumblr media
I finally manage to catch my own Milcery. Since it’s called the “Cream” Pokemon, it definitely has to evolve into Alcreamie somehow...
Tumblr media
I really want to have a Fairy on the team, so Jake the Wooloo gets booted off.
Tumblr media
Hmm, maybe I can use these sweets to evolve Milcery? Are there different flavors of sweets?
Tumblr media
I make it to Turffield, where good ol’ Hop is waiting for me.
Tumblr media
Before doing the story stuff, I first check the bounds of how far I’m allowed to go. Here’s a literal broken bridge stopping me.
Tumblr media
New types of jobs are available now. There's some strategy in choosing which Pokemon to send, since a lot of Pokemon have two types. It might be best to start with the job that requires rare types like Ghost, so that you can use each Pokemon most efficiently.
Tumblr media
It looks like progressing in the game will give you new backgrounds for your League Card. This one featuring tiny Wooloo seems to be unlocked by reaching Turffield.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I now have the ability to try the daily lotto. I’m so happy all these features are right in the Pokemon Center so you don’t have to go hunting for them.
Tumblr media
Of course, I’ve only had like one trade so far, so I don't have loads of trainer ID’s to help me win...
Tumblr media
I go back to the camp I passed on the way and hang out for a bit. I’m so glad there are NPC camps for people who don’t have the online service. This one even has two trainers in it.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
We make probably the best curry ever.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Before going to the Gym, I explore a bit around the village. It’s very pastoral, but has some interesting rock structures too. The paths can get a bit confusing with lots of dead-ends.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
At the hillside overlook, I run into Sonia again, who contemplates what the glyph could represent. It must be some kind of legendary Pokemon, and I’ll probably have to fight it at some point in order to save the region.
Maybe the Chairman has a plan to release lots of Dynamax energy into the environment, thus causing /all/ wild Pokemon to turn huge and powerful? But he already basically controls the region - what would he need an army of big Pokemon for?
Tumblr media
I really like that you can get actual water from this water fountain. And only /this/ water fountain, apparently.
Tumblr media
This small girl presents us with a confusing riddle.
Tumblr media
Ugh, I can't quite get my face to line up. The Pokemon on the right is obviously that squirrel, but what’s this big rock one that seems to be made out of glyph stones?
Tumblr media
Okay, time to go to the Gym. First, here’s a re-cap of my current team.
Tumblr media
I wonder how the Gym leaders get assigned their League numbers. Is August 31 his birthday or something?
Tumblr media
Oh look, it’s the Pokeball cosplayer again. From a distance, his face looks like a weird bird.
Tumblr media
I trade away my cool Galarian Meowth for a boring normal Meowth. I wonder if /both/ types of Meowth can Gigantamax?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This is the most ridiculous mission ever. The things I do for fame. Me - a sheep herder!
Tumblr media
There are also annoying trainers that keep getting in the way. Can I instruct the herd of Wooloo to just stampede over these guys?
Tumblr media
Counting /these/ sheep won’t put anyone to sleep.
Tumblr media
I wonder how long it takes to reset the mission each time someone clears it. Oh well, not my problem.
Tumblr media
Finally, we are on to the first Gym leader - this child-faced, buff farmer-dude.
Tumblr media
I am so ready :)
Tumblr media
There’s something kind of creepy about Milo’s face. His freckles make it look like he doesn’t have a nose.
Tumblr media
You know, I just realized this Gym is probably horrible for spectators with allergies.
Tumblr media
Another easy victory for me and my lump of coal.
Tumblr media
I get my first badge! Looks like all the badges fit together into one big mosaic. I wonder how the merchandisers will handle creating real-world replica badges.
Tumblr media
Can’t say no to free clothes. Maybe I”ll wear it at the next Gym.
Tumblr media
I love that NPC’s are starting to recognize me. When I finally have my championship match, you think my mom will bother to come watch in person?
Tumblr media
I also solved the riddle and found this item. You want it too? Then figure it out yourself ;)
Tumblr media
I am now allowed to cross the bridge to Route 5, but I decide to hold off for the moment (this post is long enough anyways ;) )
Tumblr media
First, I give another go at the lottery, but I only get milk as a prize. What if I was lactose-intolerant, huh?
Tumblr media
My Pokemon are making quite a name for themselves on the job market.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Then I spend quite a while exploring more parts of the Wild Area. It really makes for some great screenshots.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This bug Pokemon is apparently super-rare, so I was lucky to find one in a Max Raid Battle.
Tumblr media
Of course, I already have both a Bug and a Fire type, so you know where this one’s going :)
Tumblr media
More lovely screenshots.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I can’t wait to get to that distant dragon city beyond the bridge.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I tried really hard to see if my trainer would jump off this cliff. Come on, the water will break your fall! ^.^
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
It’s scary seeing a Corviknight just flying around - they’re huge!
Tumblr media
I’m kinda disappointed there are no actual giants here.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Another raid battle done. I love that you get a bone for beating a dog.
Tumblr media
Finally, something fun to end this post with: November 21st was my birthday :)

I wasn’t initially going to summon on this banner since the idea of a Nefaria alt didn’t interest me much, but then we found out that she’s a flame wand, AND Gala Elly got put on rate-up, who I’ve been waiting like nine goddamn months for another chance to get, so at that point I figured that this banner was more tempting to me than the idea of the anniversary gala giving us, like, Gala Zena or whatever, lol.
Also I may as well use this as an excuse to talk about the upcoming changes to crafting and storage that we’re getting for the anniversary.
Even after summoning for Gala Thor like two weeks ago, I managed to get back up to around 270 summons going into this gala, and this is what I got from spending like 230 of that, lol.
Dupes:
-Sakuya and Long Long [I already had MUB copies of both of them so now they’re just sitting in my inventory as extras. I could sell them, but I know we’re getting updates to how dragons get upgraded soon so I want to hold onto them]
-Liger [I think he’s at 3UB now]
-Andromeda x2 [yes I got two copies of her, lol. Now she’s at 2UB]
-Summer Celliera [why do I keep getting so many summer units from galas, lol]
-I might have gotten another dupe adventurer but I can’t remember
And anyway the new stuff I got was:
-Gala Elly x2 [!!!!!! I’ve waited so long for ths, and now I dunno if I’ll even actually use her, lol. But I’m glad I got her. I probably should have stopped after getting the first copy of her after like 150 summons, but I wanted the Nefaria alt]
-Incognito Nefaria [it took nearly all of my stash but I finally got her. I know she’s not even a limited unit and I could just dream summon her later, but I don’t regret chasing her now. Especially since she seems designed for these kinds of wave-based events, and I’m already having fun using her for it]
-Summer Mikoto [Like I said, I just keep getting summer units for some reason. I felt kinda bad about skipping his banner when he came out, and he was actually my main dream summon candidate before this, so I’m really happy I got him. This also makes up for me getting spooked by a Summer Cleo dupe in the last gala, lol]
-Horus [I have like four or five different MUB 5-star flame dragons so I’m never actually gonna use him, but he’s nice to have. I hope they make more attack rate dragons like him for other elements]
-Hastur [the less said about this dude, the better]
I could have just stopped after getting Gala Elly [especially since I’d already pulled Horus and Summer Mikoto by that point], but I really like Incognito Nefaria as a unit, so I’m glad I got her. I also read OG Nefaria and Nadine’s adventurer stories recently to prepare for this event, and it made me really like both of them, so there’s that. I’m really glad I managed to get Nadine a while ago even after skipping her banner, since now I can use her and Nefaria in my flame team together. I honestly think that if I didn’t have Nadine already I might not have been as compelled to chase Nefaria here, so I guess that’s a bit of a double-edged sword, but I’m happy about how it turned out, lol.
At the moment I’m also running Naveed and Verica in my flame team with them, since I saw someone point out that you can now make a full flame team with PoC characters, and I just think that’s neat. And they actually work really well together for an event like this.
I feel kinda bad about more or less benching my Xania, but I hadn’t used her in ages after she started to fall out of the meta, so there’s that. Wands are one of my favourite weapon types, though, and I’ve been waiting for a new good flame wand for ages, so that also made me excited about Nefaria. I know Student Maribelle’s actually pretty good now for various reasons, but I don’t like her as much, lol.
I do appreciate that she and Nefaria aren’t actually as identical as they seemed at first glance. I mean, they’re still really similar in a lot of ways, but I think S-Maribelle works better in single-enemy boss fights, while Nefaria is designed more for wave-based content.
Nefaria’s also just a surprisingly neat character in terms of how she plays, specifically because she’s designed for wave-based content. Both of her skills feel really unique in how they function, and it feels like you really have to think about your positioning and movement in order to maximize her damage, with how her S1 creates a zone that sucks in enemies, and her S2 locks her into a super long casting animation and makes her move really slowly until you successfully set it off.
Her getting stuck in a nearly six second long casting animation for her S2 that also makes her move super slowly is kinda annoying, but I like that it forces you to be careful about when you do it so that you don’t get knocked out of the animation before it ends. And honestly I just think it’s really cool that she does a full-on spell chant, and you see a magic circle slowly expand under her as she charges up her big nuke spell. It’s extremely satisfying, lol. Especially since even with a 0UB Agito wand, I can easily hit like 500k+ damage with it by using it on a big crowd, so that’s just really cool.
It’s also really convenient that if your S2 gets canceled, you can immediately start it again after you recover, so you don’t have to charge it up again. It makes it feel a lot less punishing when you get hit during the animation, but it’s still enough of an issue that you’re motivated to avoid having it happen. Also, even though her skills are really powerful, their SP costs are pretty low [almost identical to Xania’s, for reference]. It also makes it easy to get into a pattern of using your S1 twice before you use your S2, which is enough to make sure your S2 is energized since you get three energy stacks from each S1.
All in all, I just think she has a really cool kit that all fits together with itself really nicely, and it’s super satisfying to use her in wave-based events like this. In spite of her new modern-day outfit, she actually feels like a fairly old-school caster type of character, with big crowd-control skills and long, dramatic spell chants and magic circles and stuff, which I really love.
Sadly I think she’s probably kinda bad for stuff like Volk and maybe even HMS, but I really like using her.
Also, I do really like her new outfit, and how well she fits with Nadine. It’s just really cute. Not to mention her having a shareable skill where she takes a selfie with her, lol. This recent trend of characters getting shareable skills with really cute or funny animations that you can see other characters do if you equip the shared skill on them is really great. Apparently if you use that shared skill on Nadine, it changes it so that the animation has Incognito Nefaria show up to take a selfie with her, which is a cute touch.
And even though I hope they make some new maps for these events soon, I really like how they’re using these defense/onslaught events to focus on existing gacha characters and flesh out their stories while also showing how they interact with unrelated characters.
I do feel kinda bad about how Nadine got her own whole story connected to an OG 5-star, and a whole new event based around it just a few months after she got introduced, while Linnea had to go back to her home planet or something, lol. At least she gets to hang out with Laranoa and Linus in Wyrmprint Land [tm].
Anyway, all that aside, we also recently got a glimpse of what the upcoming weapon/crafting/inventory system overhaul is gonna entail, since they had to make a separate alert in advance about how it’s going to impact microtransaction stuff, and how they’re gonna reimburse people for that.
Basically it sounds like weapons and wyrmprints are gonna get changed so that we can only have one copy of each one, but through some sort of upgrading process we’ll be able to equip one weapon/wyrmprint on multiple people in the same team. Which sounds like a really convenient change that’ll remove so much clutter from my inventory. It’ll also make it a lot easier to use multiple characters of the same weapon type on a team together, since usually the hassle of dealing with how they use similar weapons and wyrmprints just makes me never want to bother. I dunno how often I’ll actually use units like this together after this update, but it should be convenient for characters who have the same weapon type but different roles [like how Gala Elly and Tobias are buff units with weapon types mostly used for DPS units, or how Heinwald is a hybrid DPS/healer while Grace is a dedicated defense/shield buff unit].
It also sounds like they’re going to straight up remove some weapons and wyrmprints from the game to go with this change, which probably at least refers to the 2-star ones that nobody uses for anything. If we can only hold one copy of them at a time, they’d be even more useless as experience fodder than they are now, so there wouldn’t really be any reason to keep them around other than as weapon skins. I’m still hoping they also remove some of the really niche and useless void weapons, though, and just keep them as optional weapon skins.
My main worry about this system is that we don’t know exactly what the process of upgrading a weapon or wyrmprint to let you equip it to multiple characters will be like, and how many resources it might take. Considering how many solo team comps involve using multiple copies of stuff like Odd Sparrows or punisher prints, veteran players should be able to do those upgrades pretty much immediately so they can get back to normal.
There’s also the whole topic of how facility events want you to get a full team of event prints as soon as possible to make the grind easier, so that’s another example of why it hopefully won’t be a very expensive system. And on that note, I guess they’ll be fundamentally changing how we obtain prints, especially from stuff like facility events. But we’ll see how it goes.
It’ll at least be interesting to see if the new system leads to us using more or less eldwater than we currently do on prints.
I also have a feeling that since we’ll only be able to have one copy of each weapon and wyrmprint after this, and since they seem to be removing the storage limit on them, they’re probably also going to completely remove the ability to dismantle weapons [and maybe to sell wyrmprints], since you won’t have to worry about things like cleaning out your inventory anymore. They did also mention recently that one big problem with the crafting system was how dismantling has always been a huge pain, so I could see them just removing it, lol. The current main endgame weapons can’t be dismantled already anyway, so it wouldn’t change much, and it’d at least remove the possibility of accidentally selling or dismantling something you didn’t want to.
Either way, this seems like a way more drastic change than I expected it to be [even if it’s more of a quality of life type of thing], and now I can see why it’s been in the works for so long, lol. I’m really happy that they’re willing to make these sorts of updates to make the whole UI as streamlined and convenient as possible, though.
I’ve been trying to get into Granblue Fantasy for months now, but one of the main things that keeps me from ever getting really into it is just how godawful the entire UI of that game is, especially when it comes to inventory management. I know some people get bored with constant quality of life updates, but it’s so much better than the alternative, lol.

Took a quick detour to do a Trick House challenge. While the correct answer is “The Hoenn Catastrophe”, “The Meteor Mishap” is pretty amazing because it just blatantly downplays how badly Hoenn was devastated.
Just a little accident with a few meteors. No biggie! Everything is Perfectly Fine™.
Tumblr media
The next stop is the Magma WH Hideout. I actually didn’t know until now that RUDO can learn Strength, but hey - 80BP is fairly decent. Tri Attack’s special effect is nifty, but I guess I can live without it – I do have RAYZA for paralysis and Sleep is a better status effect for catching mons.
Tumblr media
God damn it, LOTTE! That 4x Dark/Ghost weakness does you no favors.
Tumblr media
lol sux 2 sux
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I forgot to get a screencap of this grunt and shamelessly cribbed from DrAkimbo’s translation playthrough, but: think of it as a good way to exercise.
Tumblr media
Gotta say this guy continues to be one of my favourite mooks in an evil team.
Tumblr media
Along the way, we run into this guy, called Nostratos in the translation. It’s always nice to see a mon you’ve used before.
Tumblr media
Near the end, we run into Tabitha. He’s not too tough.
Tumblr media
:ohdear:
Tumblr media
Wallace is found standing before Groudon. And what’s that little creature to his right?
Tumblr media
Turns out to be called Ordina – created for the purpose of awakening Groudon with its song and the power of the Blue Orb.
Tumblr media
Wallace thanks Ordina (how nice of him!), but the little one takes off.
Tumblr media
He wonders if CELIA helped Ordina escape somehow, and battles her.
Video: Wallace #2
Tumblr media
Tentacruel isn’t too unusual – it does have Barrier to raise its defenses and Water Pulse can be annoying if it procs confusion.
Tumblr media
Darca is just barely able to survive RAYZA’s Discharge attacks. Video was funny since it killed itself with recoil.
Tumblr media
Unsurprisingly, Milotic is his star Pokemon. It is, by the way, completely walled by a Serplant with Water Absorb. Otherwise, just beware of Hydro Pump.
Tumblr media
No, she does not. Neither do we, for that matter.
Tumblr media
Next on the plot agenda, getting things going by having Team WH jack the sub and chasing them to their HQ.
Tumblr media
In the process of picking up the Master Ball, there’s some Electrodes. Arguably a decent place to pick one up in hopes of evolving to Mastrode.
Tumblr media
oh
Tumblr media
At the end is… Aqua Admin Matt! This guy was totally forgettable in the original RSE games.
Tumblr media
Shadow Ball is nice for STAB even if it’s going off of LOTTE’s pathetic physical attack.
Tumblr media
Ouch.
Tumblr media
While grinding – oh dear. Looks like we’ve run into the other Asufia form.
Tumblr media
RAYZA picks this up; it’s a useful special attack that will give her movepool some diversity.
Tumblr media
Skipping ahead to Mossdeep, it turns out the city has been battered enough by the meteors that it’s mainly a series of close islands. Also, the kid’s Wailmer pun got changed to one with Dorfin. It’s a pretty good one too :p
Tumblr media
This was one of the encounters – Foamdra, Nostratos’ first form. I can’t remember if Altair had a similar-sounding dex entry, but I’m just getting Pikmin vibes.
Tumblr media
Some fluff dialogue hints at the identities of the Mossdeep leaders; obviously not Tate/Liza, but some new faces. It makes me wonder if the hackers forgot about their dialogue or if there’s something else to it, but more on that when we hit the gym itself.
Tumblr media
Inside Brendan / Steven’s house, there is a Beldum just sitting there. Metagross is as great as ever, but if you want to use one you’ll have to do quite a bit of catching up.
Tumblr media
This guy talks about the Sootopolis leader. Insert some joke about how Japan exists in the Pokeverse.
Tumblr media
Inside the Space Center, we find it’s being run by Team BH. This guy mentions that the meteors have also affected some humans in unknown ways. Brendan’s there too, though I can’t imagine he’s very happy with the situation.
Tumblr media
Original form, eh? The mystery of Ordina deepens. If anything, we now know Ordina’s female.
Tumblr media
Onto the gym itself: the leaders, Molly and Chaz, are supposed to be a play on how plasma is pronounced, similar to how Liza and Tate are a play on “levitate”. It’s a little less obvious with the new leaders.
They specialize in these two types, which basically means any Ground-type worth its salt will hopefully have a good time here.
Tumblr media
It’s amazing how there’s still NFEs at this level on trainers.
Tumblr media
We run into the leaders – it’s this line that gives me pause. Are they actually siblings? Were they gonna be siblings before being changed to being buddies? Or vice-versa? Are they pals who also coincidentally happen to have twin siblings?
Tumblr media
Oh well, onto the battle! Those kids sure do have ahoges.
Tumblr media
They lead with Phantasp and Scimitooth. Phantasp may be recognized from ornidl gets clubbed by moonrunes – this mon has special bulk and has a set of Flamethrower/Sunny Day/Solarbeam/Confuse Ray. As shown in the video, it has Levitate.
Scimitooth is something more interesting – a very fast but frail mixed attacker, it’s Rock/Electric, has Thunderbolt, and Earthquake (handy with Phantasp’s Levitate).
The strategy is to use TERRY for his Rock-type moves while partnering him with RAYZA – not just due to Light Screen (as everything they use have pretty good Special Attack), but because of her ability: Lightningrod. Her presence on the field basically keeps any and all Electric type attacks away from TERRY. That one ability did wonders in making this battle a cakewalk!
Tumblr media
The other strategy is to gang up on one ‘mon.
Tumblr media
I don’t recall Phenusc being any remarkable (it went down too quickly) but I’m sure it had Flamethrower and a Dragon-type move. It’s probably safe to assume this one has Levitate as an ability too.
Tumblr media
Left alone, Mastrode can’t really do much. It has Charge for powering up its attacks, I guess?
Tumblr media
We pick up this badge and the TM for Flamethrower. Nifty.
Tumblr media
In the next part, Team WH / BH will be encountered yet again.

You didn't like sun and moon?
There were things I did like about the game, such as some of the new Pokémon and the removal of HMs, but there are so many problems I have with the game, and when you look more into it… it’s almost comparable to Sonic 06 in some aspects.
Everyone’s gonna grab their torch and pitchforks, but it’s kinda true. They focused so much on the story, and rushed the game for not only for an anniversary release, but a Christmas one too. Even the kid who gave it to me (yes, it was given to me) said he thought it was boring compared to the previous titles.
Eh, might as well go on, and point out the things that are wrong in terms of programming, and writing…
Unfinished content. There are several unused assets in Sun/Moon, more than there were in Gen 2 and 3. There’s this golf course for one. Supposedly, /vp/ went into the code and found a ton of unused stuff. The player’s house was originally way bigger than it is in the game with a garage and other rooms. Fully modeled Pokémon that follow you are still in the game data. There’s also a bunch of unused caves, allegedly.
There’s a few buildings that you just… can’t enter, for whatever reason. The lighthouse, and the one building in Malie Garden. It’s kind of frustrating since there is a door there, but you can’t do anything with them. It doesn’t even give you the satisfaction of a “it’s locked” like past games did.
There’s quite a bit of lag in this game, even with the new 3DS. Supposedly, once again at /vp/, an anon went into the code and found out that the programming behind battles in SM constantly re-rendered the models over and over, which slows the game down tremendously. Why they did this? I have no clue.
The AI for some of the trainers happen to be extremely pathetic, especially the Elite Four. This isn’t even a case of the EXP Share being overpowered, the AI is just as stupid as it was in gen 1.
I might as well nitpick the Elite Four while I’m at it. Two of them you already fought, one you have met, and one is from the aforementioned unused golf area most likely. They couldn’t bother to come up with new people to insert, or use exclusively the ones you didn’t battle.
You may notice that the National Dex is not in the game at all. So when you get a Pokémon not in the dex, like say, Inkay, it will not show up. No entry, nothing. Your save file will never read more than "302" Pokemon even if you have all 802 of them.
On that note, a lot of the returning Pokémon are from gen 1. There’s only a couple of Pokémon from gens 2-6. Pandering much? Especially with that Nugget Bridge callback, even though the Nugget Bridge in my opinion, was one of the worst parts of gen 1.
Unlike most people, I love when new Pokémon are introduced, and I get really upset when they become practically hidden in comparison to the flood of Kanto Pokémon plus Alola forms. Seriously, it took far too long to find a Salandit, Rockruff I never ran into at all, Dhelmise I only saw in the Elite Four, and Dewpider? Didn’t even know it was in the game. Gen 2 had this problem as well, but that was years ago, and they should have learned.
Nitpicking again, but Alola forms… yeah, not a fan of them. I was okay with the Mega Evos, particularly when they were given to underpowered Pokémon. Geodude and Grimer didn’t need these things at all. Bellossom though, one of the few Pokémon that would work well in Alola? Maybe as a Fire/Grass type..? Uhhh, nope, it’s gen 2, not our precious gen 1!
The Zygarde stuff feels like it was leftover from the next part of gen 6, but rather than making “Z” like everyone initially expected, in hopes of fixing past problems X/Y did. Instead though, GameFreak came with Sun/Moon, and rushed it for the 20th anniversary.
And the Battle Tree. God, I remember everyone gushing over Red and Blue returning, but… they were literally just there, for another recycled Battle Maison thing. You think GameFreak would have learned from the backlash against ORAS for removing the Battle Frontier, but nope. It’s literally barebones fan-service.
Soooo… what of the story? Well, in the game is kind of a mess, then maybe the story is better? What about the characters?
And by characters, I mean just Lillie. Lillie is the only character that gets any development, that becomes likable-- heck, I’ve seen some people say they wish she was the protagonist instead of the blank-faced player avatar, because they absolutely hate the player avatar for standing there.
I would have liked Lillie even more, if she went from disliking fighting, to deciding to break through and actually try it herself, becoming a rival. She doesn’t though, so…
Hau doesn’t do anything for his character. He’s nice, but he’s no Bianca, who became a professor at least. Gladion is an edgelord who helped Team Skull (even though they were helping his awful mom anyway so.. did he even know about this?) who just suddenly turns around at the climax.
Guzma… well, there’s nothing negative to say about him, but I just… don’t understand him. Why is he helping the Aether Foundation? Was there something I missed? He’s funny, and I liked having a less serious antagonist after how tryhard Lysandre was, but then that ends up being ruined with Lusamine.
Lusamine, god, where do I begin? She is easily worse than Lysandre in terms of Pokémon antagonists. She lost her husband (who is on that island with the Pokébeans by the way, so he isn’t dead or anything to begin with) and just ends up being cold to her children, focusing only on the Ultra Beasts.
This would be okay, if she was maybe… actually depressed, and not absolutely psychotic for no reason, wanting to fuse herself with Nihilego and freezing Pokémon. And you’re supposed to feel sorry for her and Lillie, I’m sorry, what? No, I’m not forgiving her. These are explanations, but not excuses.
Cyrus wasn’t forgiven, even though out of all the antagonists, I find him to be the most sympathetic. Ghetsis certainly isn’t being forgiven, and for good reasons, he closed his son off from the rest of the world and used him for his own goals.
The game can’t figure out if they want Lusamine to be absolutely awful, or “no she’s not so bad, she just had it rough!” It ends up feeling like a bad fan-fic, and I honestly wished Lusamine kicked the bucket after you fought her, because that would have actually been a nice change for a Pokémon game.
When she fuses herself with Nihilego, nearly everyone would expect you to fight her, as the Nihilego… but no, she just sends out her usual Pokémon from before, and she’s pathetically easy. Why was it so hard to fight her, but with Nihilego’s moveset?
Lusamine is easily the worst character and the worst antagonist in a Pokémon game, ever. The entire Aether Foundation has little build-up too, you can figure out they’re the bad guys right from the opening cutscene. At least Cipher from the GameCube games had thought into their bigbads, y’know.
Finally, we have the Ultra Beasts. I was thinking this would be a game where you have to catch the legendaries, and use them against all the Ultra Beasts to chase them out, like how we saw Tapu Koko going against Buzzwole, but no. It’s only Lusamine fusing with Nihilego. You only have a proper fight against the Ultra Beasts in a ridiculous post-game sidequest that’s more annoying than fun.
Whew… okay, I think that’s it. Yeah. Sorry for the long-winded rant, but I’ve been wanting to get that off my chest for a while. Yeah, I just didn’t have much fun with the game, and could tell it was rushed out. I disliked it even more when I learned of all the unused content, and thought more about the story.
If you liked Sun/Moon, that’s fine, I’m honestly hoping Ultra fixes all the mistakes this game made, but… I kinda doubt that, GameFreak’s jump to 3D was kinda rocky. Doesn’t help when people hype these games for a couple of months, then completely drop and forget about them.
If I want a Pokémon game with more story, I think I’ll stick to Black/White, the GameCube games, and Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Time/Darkness/Sky, thank you.
I’ve said it before to friends but… y’know, it’s kinda sad when Pokémon Clover, an unfinished and very crude hack by 4chan, is far more polished than Sun/Moon is. (Heck, rather than removing the TMs, they buffed them, especially Cut!)
