These frogs occur in several different color patterns. Unlike many other poison dart frogs, this species is semi-arboreal and will often climb above the enclosure floor. They aren’t as toxic as some other dart frogs, but they are dangerous enough to cause human deaths. The green and black dart frogs available in the pet trade are often wild-caught individuals, so care is required when moving or transporting them. They were also introduced to Hawaii in the 1930s to help reduce local mosquito populations. This species has a relatively expansive range relative to many other poison dart frogs, which encompasses a region stretching from Nicaragua and Costa Rica to northern Columbia. And although many advanced keepers eventually move on to other species, this species is typically considered the best one for beginners to choose. The green and black poison dart frog is likely the most commonly kept species in captivity. Green and Black Poison Dart Frog ( Dendrobates auratus) Try to pick the ones that are best suited for your situation and that you find appealing. One of the most appealing aspects of poison dart frogs for amphibian enthusiasts is the diverse array of species that are available.īelow, we’ll provide you with some of the basic information about seven of the most commonly seen species. Instead, the vast majority of poison dart frogs in captivity are members of a handful of genera, including Dendrobates, Phyllobates, Ranitomeya and Epipedobates. However, frogs from most of these genera are not available in the pet trade – at least, not in significant numbers. The currently recognized poison dart frog genera are as follows: Poison dart frogs are all thought to be descendants of a single, ancestral species, but some of the extant species are more closely related to each other than some others are.Īccordingly, scientists place the various species in one of 16 different groups called genera (singular: genus). But these 200-odd species aren’t all equally closely related. Nevertheless, these species are all part of a single group, called the family Dendrobatidae. It’s difficult to identify the exact number of described species, as authorities often differ on some of the minor points of poison dart frog taxonomy. Scientists currently recognize approximately 200 species of poison dart frog. Always Opt for Captive-Bred Specimens When Possible.Reticulated Poison Dart Frog (Ranitomeya ventrimiculata) Bicolor Poison Dart Frog (Phyllobates bicolor) Golden Poison Dart Frog (Phyllobates terribilis) Anthony’s Poison Dart Frog (Epipedobates anthonyi) Yellow-Striped Poison Dart Frog (Dendrobates truncates) Dyeing Poison Dart Frog (Dendrobates tinctorius) Bumblebee Poison Dart Frog (Dendrobates leucomelas) Green and Black Poison Dart Frog (Dendrobates auratus)

Profile for Lonnie McMillan and Dendromon. More information under the break:
Lonnie Full Name: Lonnie McMillan
Age: 17
Hair: Ginger
Eyes: Golden
Height: 6'2" Partner: Dendromon
Personality
Raised on long-past stories of adventures and monsters, is it really any wonder that Lonnie leapt into the life of a Digimon tamer with an immense, and a potentially foolhardy gusto. Not that it's overly unusual for her, as she has the tendency to tackle every one of life's problems with a wide grin on her face and a sense of wonder and enthusiasm that seems unquenchable. Inherently approachable, friendly, utmostly noble and heroic to the nth degree, Lonnie could almost have been purpose-made for the life of a tamer. A fact which causes a few of her friends and family much exasperation.
Of course there is more to this new life than just the will to win and live to the utmost, a fact of which Lonnie is very aware, although she does struggle to keep up with some of the more involved aspects of life. While not unintelligent by any means, she has a tendency to blindly speak her mind, a hardheadedness which constantly leads her into trouble, and a severely impulsive streak which has been passed down through the McMillan family for generations. If she's around, you can be certain that she will cause trouble, whether intentional or not.
But no matter the many, many blunders she has wrought in the past, there is no denying the sincere level of heart that Lonnie brings to everything she does and everyone she comes across. No matter how bad things get, she will always remain standing, and if need be she will pull her friends through the toughest times with her bare hands. It's just who she is. She is a hero, through and through, and she's gonna save the world.

Dendromon
Pronunciation: DEN-droh-mon
Name origin: Dendrobatidae, family of amphibians containing poison dart frogs
Family: Dragon's Roar, Jungle Troopers
Type: Salamander
Stage: Rookie
Attribute: Data
Height: 3'1" Partner: Lonnie Personality Dendromon appears to be a master of being in the wrong place at the wrong time. She's clumsy on her feet, unsure with her words, and though she tries to maintain an air of confidence and authority in her own life, she in fact has a passiveness to her that leads her into many of the situations that stress her out so much, be they wild Digimon, overenthused toddlers, or the terrifying whims of her own beloved partner.
With the amount she ends up going through it's rather a wonder that Dendromon is as compliant as she is, despite her need to complain about everything that she is being forced to endure right now please Lonnie can you just think for once in your life. She does trust her partner to the fullest, truly believing the best of people even when they do lead her into difficult situations. But more than that is her own streak of heroism, or perhaps of duty; a need to do right by the people she loves and trusts. No matter how embarrassing or how dire the situation gets, she won't back down facing every new challenge dead on, on her own head be it.
A puppet to her partner's brilliant ideas, possibly. Maybe more than is healthy for her. But when it counts, Dendromon shares every bit of Lonnie's heroic streak and need to do right by the world. After so many years of watching a world burn, isn't it only fair to try and make things right for the next generation.
Attacks:
Acid Arc - Dendromon emits an acidic flame from her hand claws and slashes at her enemy, the flame shooting out as a spinning projectile
Searing Skin - Dendromon's palms heat up to hundreds of degrees, and she grabs or swipes at her enemy, any contact with her skin causing instant burns
~
Spawmon
Pronunciation: SPORR-mon
Name origin: Frogspawn, eggs of many aquatic animals including amphibians
Type: Slime
Stage: Fresh
Attribute: None
Height: 0'7"
Attacks:
Bubbles - Spawmon emits a slow string of bubbles from her membrane
~
Axolomon
Pronunciation: Ack-ZOLL-oh-mon
Name origin: Axolotl, salamander species native to Mexico
Family: Jungle Troopers
Type: Tadpole
Stage: In-Training
Attribute: None
Height: 1'0"
Attacks
Burn Bubble - Axolomon puffs up her body and blows out a glowing, mildly corrosive bubble

And it's time to introduce the Chasm partners all proper-like
New display sheets here, as you might have noticed. I wanted to try and make a format which was a) clear, b) looked nice and c) meant I could add later forms/additional parts at a later point without it getting stupidly big. We'll see how these ones go; if they're useful I'll try and keep using them for the rest of Ascending.
Also, additional profile artwork for the tamers! This is partially inspired by Reboot and my desire to try different costumes (and show off Lonnie's definitely-totally-deliberate complete lack of fashion sense), but also I wanted to try some extra expressions before running straight into screenshots. It's fun to doodle.
Also, you don't want to know what the reference note I had for that last expression was. 0_o
Basically Chasm is significantly bigger, more complicated and more ambitious than anything I've tried before on any scale. We can only hope it pays off.
And also we meet Lonnie's long-suffering partner. I am going to be updating this sheet as the story goes on, so keep an eye out for new evolutions. 8)
Not much else I can really add here, other than...well...I'm back for good this time.
Fribbit.

World of Reptiles, Bronx Zoo (No. 2)
Poison dart frog (also known as dart-poison frog, poison frog or formerly known as poison arrow frog) is the common name of a group of frogs in the family Dendrobatidae which are native to tropical Central and South America. These species are diurnal and often have brightly colored bodies. This bright coloration is correlated with the toxicity of the species, making them aposematic. Some species of the family Dendrobatidae exhibit extremely bright coloration along with high toxicity, while others have cryptic coloration with minimal to no amount of observed toxicity. The species that have great toxicity derive this from their diet of ants, mites and termites. Other species however, that exhibit cryptic coloration and low to no amounts of toxicity, eat a much larger variety of prey. Many species of this family are threatened due to human infrastructure encroaching on their habitats.
These amphibians are often called "dart frogs" due to the Native Americans' use of their toxic secretions to poison the tips of blowdarts. However, of over 170 species, only four have been documented as being used for this purpose (curare plants are more commonly used), all of which come from the genus Phyllobates, which is characterized by the relatively large size and high levels of toxicity of its members.

Panama is home to an astonishing assortment of colored frogs belonging to the family Dendrobatidae, commonly called “poison-dart frogs”. This is a beautiful male strawberry poison-dart frog (Oophaga pumilio) photographed just aside of a main road in North-eastern Panama, while on the field with @losnaturalistas. It was both amazing and terrifying to see calling males while behind me big trucks and cars passed on a normal working day. We often have the beauty of nature just round the corner, be it Panama or wherever else. Learning what we have around is one of the first steps to care and act for wildlife. #dendrobates #dendrobatidae #oophaga #pumilio #poison #toxic #beautiful #pickoftheday #panama #wildlife #macrophotography #frog #toad #amphibian #conservation @ilcp_photographers https://www.instagram.com/p/B36pzi9oadZ/?igshid=g1wtmbg94jfc

Sapo flecha venenosa
Tumblr media
Found in Central and South America, these amphibians (of the order anura) are quite poisonous. These dart poison frogs have this name because of the techniques that the Embera Indians, located in Colombia, use to hunt down arrows, darts (shotguns) at the skin of some species for help on hunting. After cooking the toxin is destroyed, allowing feeding of the prey.
These amphibians belong to the Dendrobatidae family. They are aphtematic animals, that is, they have a very striking coloration, common of poisonous animals, to alert the possible predators that they are dangerous. They have different colors like blue, green, yellow, red, orange, showing that they are quite dangerous, but the colors give a look of beauty to these animals.
The venom is composed of alkaloids, which are pharmacologically active substances. These alkaloids are acquired through their feeding of some arthropods in which the latter feed on plants with alkaloid substances.
Of the fact that if the dendrobatídeos are bred in captivity, they lose their toxicity. However, if their food has alkaloids, they can store that substance. Few are the animals that can prey on these frogs, as is the case of the snake Liophis Epinephelus.
The species Phyllobates terribilis (also known as golden poison frog, due to its yellow coloration) is probably the most poisonous vertebrate there is. A single individual may contain 1,900 milligrams of venom (Batracotoxin) and less than 200 milligrams can be lethal to humans or ten thousand rats.

Graduate position: SouthernIllinoisU.EvolutionFrogs
Evolution of South American Poison frogs (genera Ameerega and Ranitomeya)Zoology Department, Southern Illinois University Carbondale, Carbondale, IL. A doctorate position is available to study the evolution of S. American poison dart frogs. Neotropical poison frogs are a species-rich family (Dendrobatidae) that exhibit a diversity of mating systems, parental care strategies and phenotypes. The Brown lab is looking for a student to develop a research program studying ANY core aspect of the lab's research. The ideal student will be prepared to conduct field-based research, have some experience in molecular ecology/population genetics, genomic and/or geospatial analyses. The selected candidate MUST be highly interested in phylogenetics, population genetics, or genomics. This position includes several trips to South America and fully funded lab work. As follows are a few key projects that could be your graduate research: *Speciation, species boundaries and hybridization in the Ameerega bassleri complex: insights from natural history, acoustic and morphological data, geospatial data, sub-genomic and paleoclimatology. This group is a highly diverse group of three species with dramatic phenotypic variation across its range. It also has experienced several historical hybridization events among the taxa that have muddled and complicated their evolutionary histories. This research will be aimed to understand factor driving and maintaining speciation in natural situations. **Phylogeography and spatial biodiversity patterns of the poison frog genus Ranitomeya: insights from sub-genomic data, geospatial analysis and phylogenetics. The thumbnail poison frogs are some of the most amazing species on eart via Gmail
