#Gil loves her so deeply
Note
You gotta continue the Gladiator AU!! I'm dying to know what's gonna happen next!
Thena shot to her feet as her mother exited the private healing chambers reserved only for the most important of patients. "Is he...?"
Ajak placed a hand - properly scrubbed and rid of blood - on her daughter's shoulder. "He will live."
Thena rushed past her mother, regardless of royal manner and protocol. She crossed what felt like an insurmountable distance between the door to the room and the bed, nearly falling to her knees at the sight of Gilgamesh lying there, breathing.
He was breathing.
Ajak walked in again, following her daughter to deliver more news than simply that he was not deceased. "He is lucky--he's only alive because of how strong he is."
Thena's eyes were already swimming with tears, "oh, Gil."
Ajak kept quiet about the way Thena's hand ran over his cheek and forehead and into his hair. She sighed, "Thena."
"I told you," Thena whispered to him, all but ignoring her mother over her shoulder. "I told you not to fight that monster."
"Speaking of that monster," Ajak spoke just a little louder. She required Thena's attention. "Thena, we must speak with Eros."
Thena swiped at her eyes, taking up her typical stoic expression. "I have nothing to say to that man."
"Thena," Ajak repeated, although Thena went back to leaning over Gilgamesh, watching his take slow but deep breaths. They had sewn his wounds, treated his swelling as best they could. He looked somewhat like his usual self.
"Mother, please," Thena looked up at her, her hand clutching at Gilgamesh's. "What could I possibly have to say to him?"
"He is our guest," Ajak grumbled, just as regretful of that fact as Thena. "We must see him off, especially to tell him that you will not be leaving with him?"
Thena kept her eyes on their Champion of champions. "I knew he would win. But...but what he did for us... "
What he had done for her specifically, rather. What he had done as a humble Fighter in the name of Thena's life and freedom was unparalleled.
Ajak sighed deeply. "I know you do not want to speak with the prince. I do not want to either, Thena. But-"
"What if he wakes?" Thena cut her mother off, which was a punishable act for anyone else. "What if he wakes and he's alone? H-He won't know what happened. Last he woke and thought he lost he nearly leapt to his feet. If he does that this time he will-"
"Thena," Ajak gripped her shoulder, stilling her anxious child's unusually twisted tongue.
"I will not leave him, Mother."
Ajak looked at Thena, the determined line of her eyebrows and the set of her jaw. She looked down at her hand in Gilgamesh's, their fingers woven together like trees meeting over a walkway and reaching for each other's branches for support.
"I will commit no other treason in my life," Thena promised, turning around again now that her peace was said. She used her free hand to smooth over Gil's blankets. "If you allow me this one solace, I shall do anything you ask of me for the rest of my days."
What a steep price for such a small request.
Ajak regarded Thena, perched at the gladiator's side. It was different from even the last time she had found her so. And something she had seen only drops of before was now thundering in her ears. "I have no more asks to demand, I think now, my dear."
Thena regarded her mother as she stood at the head of the bed, also sparing their Champion a warm glance.
"The condition of his victory," Ajak elaborated, gesturing to the man unconsciously being showered with Thena's attentions. "It was not for your marriage to another party, but that the choice be left up to you. All my efforts to find you suitors these years will be no longer."
Thena visibly considered it just as the words were hitting the air.
"Have you?" Ajak prodded lightly, tilting her head to catch any shift in Thena's reaction as she looked at Gilgamesh again. "Thought about it?"
"No," she answered automatically. And in truth, she had never considered her own marriage in real terms--not until it became very, very real to her over the past weeks. She sighed, her shoulders sinking low, "no, I haven't."
Ajak caught the way Thena's other hand was also taken in by the siren call of Gil's hand lying on the bed. She could say whatever she liked, but her hands holding his the way she would treasure the gift of life itself said more than enough. "I will see off the prince."
Thena looked up at her, "truly?"
"Yes, you stay with Gilgamesh," Ajak conceded, with the same smile any mother got when allowing their child something out of sheer love of their happiness. "Like you say, we can't have him worsening his condition if he wakes alone."
"Thank you, Mother," Thena blinked, tears rising in her eyes again. She did not even wipe them away this time, blinking rapidly until the tears were caught in her eyelashes.
"Hm," Ajak hummed with an affectionate hand to Thena's shoulder on her way past. "Perhaps this is for the best. I will not have to endure him looking at you the way a teen looks at his first brothel."
Thena wasn't even listening.
Ajak sighed again. "Alert the guards when he wakes. They will fetch me."
"Yes," Thena mumbled, barely paying her mind as Gil's breath hitched in his sleep. She rose only to rub his chest and adjust his pillow, soothing his discomfort. "I shall."
Ajak smiled on her way to see off their most unwelcome guest. She would have to wait some time, she imagined, but she was quite sure that Thena's decision to marry would come sooner than she could have hoped.

rewatching some lltg for some gifs and you know, we talk a lot about representation from a racial/cultural/gender/sexuality lens (which is important) but what i, as person with spiteful little gremlin tendencies, don’t get as often represented is petty and for that reason alone i love this show

Elves comforting you
a/n: wifey @queenmeriadoc requested “how elves comfort you when you’re missing your family” and I tried my best to deliver! you know the drill - lemme know how you liked it, reblogs and comments are extremely appreciated and the ask box is open 😊💖 i’m excited/nervous bc it was my first time writing for most of these characters! 👀
INCLUDES: Galadriel, Arondir, Elrond, Celebrimbor, Gil-galad
(Elrond and Galadriel can count both as LOTR and TROP versions, ig?)
Tumblr media
GALADRIEL:
absolutely understands you because she was parted from many of her family members and close people
asks you whether you want to talk about something, you want advice or you just want her to distract you somehow
she will offer a shoulder to cry on if you need that
she will run her fingers through your hair
also she will pamper you the whole evening to try and chase the sadness away because she loves to take action as much as she can, especially when it comes to someone she loves deeply
she will bring you your favorite food or some magically calming herbal tea, run you a bath full of flowers and scented salts and all those fancy things
ARONDIR:
he is a great listener and you know you can open up to him about your sadness and nostalgia
you can see in his eyes that he is deeply empathetic
he will gently cradle your face in his hands and wipe away any tears that might appear
in order to cheer you up, he suggests a walk, because sunshine and fresh air always seem to work for him
the walk ends up being a hunt for the most beautiful flowers that he wants to pick for you
so gradually your tears turn to smiles and you end up walking back home together with a bunch of flowers in your arms and his strong arms around your shoulders
ELROND:
oh he completely understands how you feel and he literally tears up a bit when he sees that you’re sad
he will talk you through your feelings and try his best to advise you, but he knows that it can only help so much
his touch is feather light as he takes you to your quarters and he knows you well enough to know the best medicine for your sadness - a cuddle session
he will fiddle with your hair as you two talk, he will be the big spoon if you want him to, eventually he will pepper kisses onto any available area of your skin
if you drift away to sleep, he will still be there and hold you until you wake up, feeling a bit less sad
CELEBRIMBOR:
he doesn’t need to ask “is something wrong”, he can immediately ask “WHAT is wrong” because he can read you that well
he will definitely hold your hands and squeeze them in support while you’re spilling the contents of your heart out
if your family doesn’t live too far away, he will ask whether you want him to accompany you on a trip to them
if that isn’t an option for whatever reason, he is definitely taking you on a “trip” to the forge - he knows you like to watch him work so it will be a nice distraction to you
also maybe he will make you a little something special, suited just to your taste,  like a hair accessory, to cheer you up even more
either way he won’t give up until he makes you smile
GIL-GALAD:
while you’re alone and pondering your feelings, he sneaks up behind you and envelops you in a warm hug
he will inquire about your thoughts and emotions in a comforting low voice - he knows exactly how to get you talking
he will immediately suggests going to visit your family if possible
but until then, he will make sure to have your favorite food made for you
and he will dance with you to nonexistent music, maybe hum a tune
and spin you around the biggest hall until your laughter starts echoing around it
also soft kisses are a must

MINOR SPOILERS, I THINK?
Don’t mind me, just thinking about how perfect the story of Chip, Jay, and Gillion is.
That somehow, 3 people became more family than the entire world in a matter of seconds when meeting each other.
That Chip, who pulled Jay and Gill out of their respected bad places, cares deeply about them. That a man who is so emotionally repressed will tear down the earth just to save them. That Chip is so fucking insecure deep down. That he wants nothing more than to scream out his issues, and feel okay, but he doesn’t. He doesn’t because he’s got a fight to win. Because he simply just CANT. And that Gil and Jay see him. They fucking SEE how hurt he is. They see how much pain is behind his eyes when Ollie smiles and call them his family. They see how much knowingly pained hope is behind his eyes when he looks at or talks to Drey. How much he regresses when he talks to the man. They see him for the side he tries so fucking hard to bury, and he honestly wouldn’t have it any other way.
That Gillion thinks nothing of himself. He thinks so terribly of who he is, and has a whirlwind of conflicting feelings in his head due to all the shit resurfacing about the Elders. That he’s slowly breaking down because of all the reconstruction, all the pain and suffering he’s realized they’ve caused. That the very thing his life was built upon is slowly being torn apart by the most amazing things to happen to him. These two humans, Chip and Jay, have freed him. They’ve made him feel more himself then he’s ever been in the past 23 years. These two, who know him to his very core, are there for him. Not because of a prophecy. Not because of what he can do. Not because of what he knows. Because he’s him. He’s Gillion, and that’s all they need.
And Jay. What could I say about Jay. She’s so fucking (platonically) in love. She can’t believe she got so fucking lucky. She didn’t know where she was going when she left the navy, and she immediately found Chip. She immediately found a home. She’s been through so fucking much. She’s had so much internal bullshit going on. She looks in the mirror, and she cannot define what she sees. She still doesn’t know if she’s a good person. She loves her family. She hates her family. She hates herself, but she’s also become so much more comfortable and confident. She’s Jay FUCKING Ferin. She’s Jay Ferin, Riptide Pirate. She’s Jay Ferin, navigator and co-captain of the Albatross. She is so many things. For years she’s loved and hated everything to do with her last name, and then there’s Chip and Gil. Chip and Gil, who love her. Who are there for her. Who fucking support her. She…she feels so fucking happy with them

CELROND AND 7
7. "Hello My Old Heart" - the Oh Hellos (send me a character or pairing + a number 1-100 and I’ll write a short drabble based on the corresponding song in my 2023 spotify wrapped playlist)
How strange it was to love, and to love so deeply, so swiftly, so recklessly -- and at such a time as this, when the whole world was falling about their ears!
Elrond had not known he had been capable of it. For how long had his mind been consumed with grief after the fall of Eregion? After the death of Celebrimbor and the rise of their Enemy? The years had blurred together into endless shades of miserable gray as he had tried to stay as busy as possible-- to build Rivendell here in the mountains, and lead Gil-Galad's armies, and plunge himself headlong into anything at all to occupy himself just to stay blissfully numb.
She had roses in her hair.
Galadriel's daughter.
And she had smiled at him. And he had smiled back-- a smile which he had not known he was still capable of wearing.
He was still smiling now, here, in his solar -- where he had fled to just after in a fit of embarrassment and confusion. Elrond leaned back against the door and put his hand to his mouth.
Celebrían. Sweet, gentle, vivacious Celebrían.
No. He would say nothing. They were still at war. He would set out with Gil-Galad's army in six months, which was hardly any time at all, and he was unlikely ever to return.
But if he did...
If he did...
And if Celebrían was still unwed by then, perhaps they could make a home here.
Perhaps...

I caught up with my re-watch of the second episode of Rings of Power! The episodes are long and have a lot going on, but it was fun and enjoyable—more than the first, actually, since it wasn't trying as hard to introduce everything and could breathe more.
I really liked the beginning with Galadriel in the sea, staring up at the stars before she starts swimming. Very apropos.
I thought Nori et al's stuff would be kind of tedious (I've never been super into hobbits or proto-hobbits), but tbh I find everything about it delightful to watch.
Arondir and Bronwyn are maybe the prettiest onscreen pairing I've ever witnessed. Their little theme/motif is also really nice and not overwrought the way the music sometimes got in the first episode. It suits my sense of their story being a bit like marginalia that doesn't exactly fit into the grand sweeping main narrative of Middle-earth, but is getting some spotlight anyway.
And now we've got Celebrimbor for real, with warning bells all over him! (Not literally.) I appreciate that almost the first thing he does is mention Fëanor, and he and Elrond immediately dive into a conversation about the Silmarils and craftsmanship, and Elrond seems deeply ambivalent off the bat. Him saying "So much beauty, and so much pain" about them/Fëanor's craftsmanship while wearing a feathery outfit that is hard not to associate with Elwing is ... yeah. You'd know, Elrond.
Celebrimbor's slightly snarky explanation that he asked for a massive team to build his tower forge thing and Gil-galad "has sent me you, instead" kind of worked for me? Robert Aramayo doesn't look anything like my idea of Elrond but I love his difficult-to-pin-down yet determinedly pleasant performance of Elrond's emotions and mannerisms. I also like Celebrimbor's robes.
And, oh man, seeing Khazad-dûm in its heyday? HELL, YEAH. The music is doing some of the lifting but mostly it's just fucking awesome to see. The show is clearly lingering on it with a lot of love and attention, which it's really nice to see the dwarves getting.
I liked getting references to Aulë from the dwarves (no, it's not what dwarves would ordinarily call him, but it's a reasonable concession to comprehensibility for people who aren't, well, us). During the whole challenge thing, Elrond is referred to as an Elf over and over and over, which I'm kind of :\ about as a firm proponent of Half-Elves Are Not Men or Elves, No Matter What Ultimate Fate They Chose. Elrond seems pretty uncomfortable with it (though that may be more about his relationship with Durin), but also does more or less accept it as a descriptor.
Nori was still trying to figure out the Stranger, which somehow is not boring, and meanwhile her father's ankle breaks or sprains or something as part of festival preparations. The Harfoots collectively treat this as a huge deal and are asking if he'll be able to migrate, which is not exactly framed as super ominous, but definitely seems significant and at least somewhat ominous. Nori is clearly pretty freaked out.
The first part of the episode is sadly a bit sparse on my girl Galadriel (though she got so much attention in the first episode that it's understandable), but we got back to her, still swimming. It'd be a bit unbelievably impressive from other people, but I can believe it for her. She sees the raft of survivors before we do, which I liked as a little detail.
The raft is really spiky, appropriately enough for a raft with Sauron on it. It's kind of hilarious that almost his first line is "Looks can be deceiving." No shit, lmao.
The survivors+"Halbrand" and Galadriel have this brief and slightly weird interchange about Corsairs, which strikes me as an odd reference both geographically and in the time period we're in.
Then there's a SEA WYRM that shows up out of basically nowhere and causes havoc resulting in the deaths of everyone except Sauron Halbrand and Galadriel. A coincidence, I'm sure.
Then we cut back to Elrond and Durin, and finally find out why Durin is so mad at Elrond. It turns out that Elrond basically ignored his existence for 20 years while he was doing ... things, and Elrond didn't even realize it'd been so much time because a couple decades is nbd to him. Angst and other difficulties around different lifespans = one of my most favorite fantasy tropes, so I'm onboard for this particular drama.
It's a little surprising that Elrond of all people would make this mistake, but then again, Elros himself lived so long that 20 years would have been a tiny fraction of his own lifetime, too. (Now I want lifespan angst or anxiety or something with Elros being the one who's "welp, it's really been that long?")
Anyway, I enjoyed how serious and fraught the whole discussion is and then the cut to comedy when Elrond arrives to apologize to Durin's wife, Disa. IDK, I didn't feel it was undercutting Durin as a character or his feelings, even while poking a bit of fun at his sulkiness—e.g., when Disa enthusiastically tells Elrond to make himself comfortable, and Durin is like, "But not too comfortable."
I love Disa's appearance, by and large. The patterning on her outfit is so cool and different. She's generally a delightful character, and I appreciate that while there's an element of calculation to what Elrond is doing, he seems genuinely interested in her and her work. The narrative itself feels really interested in the dwarves and their culture at this point, and I just enjoyed that a lot.
Meanwhile, back to Galadriel and Halbrand/Sauron. It's still really funny to me that there was so much indignation over Eminem Sauron being insufficiently hot, and then actual Sauron turned out to be this currently bedraggled but very conventionally attractive guy.
I like his little head tilt as he's ostensibly figuring out what's going on and his little "You're a deserter, aren't you?" As if he doesn't know who Galadriel is, hah.
When he says "My people have no king," it feels like a pretty blatant call-back to Boromir in Jackson's FOTR, but of course it's inverted, ultimately. Halbrand is a shadow Aragorn, not a shadow Boromir, and is himself (supposedly) the king he's rejecting. I'm not going to go on too much about it because I have a whole post about it here.
Anyway, Galadriel condescending to Sauron is kind of delightful. Sure, she's mistaken in assuming he's mortal. But everyone should condescend to Sauron, actually!
Back to Bronwyn, who is a bit more interesting in this episode, she actually makes it home and tries to convince her village that something is very wrong, but no one believes her. They seem kind of ridiculously stupid, tbh? Maybe not ridiculously—I can believe they would actually respond that way (I lived in the shadow of Mt St Helens for years, I know very well that historically sometimes that's the response to clear warnings of disaster). But come on, people.
Then there's Arondir in the horrifying claustrophobic tunnels with the glimpses of horrific claws. It is very successfully claustrophobic, especially when MICE start running all over him as they're trying to escape. Agh, the special hell. Then he emerges in a pool of water, only the water is super gross also, and he's focusing on the bubbles of something pursuing him only to get grabbed by a different claw monster.
We don't see him again for the entire rest of the episode and that's alarming!
I was taking little notes while I was watching, but at this point that got interrupted and I ended up watching the rest of the episode with other people and didn't take notes. But general thoughts:
Durin's final change of heart wrt Elrond and decision to take Elrond's offer to his father was a bit oddly offscreen, and it's kind of needlessly mysterious about what advantage the dwarves have over the Elves, but the show has already given us enough through both exposition and the behavior of the characters that it's not hard to buy.
Sauron saving Galadriel with Finrod's dagger is like. Hmm. Well. Yeah, that's a lot. I really like the scene of their raft in the storm—not much actually happens apart from it looking cool, but it did look really cool! And I love the imagery of Sauron desperately trying not to be drowned by the wrath of the sea, aka what will actually happen to him! :)))
I love how mysterious the Stranger is and basically everything that Nori and Poppy choose to be. Things like Poppy's "I don't speak firefly!" just work much better for my personal sense of humor than ... like, dwarf-tossing.
Theo's whole deal with the sword is ... menacing in a way where we know enough to know something is Very Wrong and related to Sauron, but not really what's going on with it. And the thing Bronwyn and Theo fought and killed was super freaky. I liked the abrupt cut to Bronwyn showing the decapitated head to the stupid villagers and them being like, "hmm. okay, guess we're moving now."
Aaaand Galadriel and "Halbrand" have been discovered!

Unusual Headcanons Asks
Thank you for the open-ended ask @welcomingdisaster! This wide range of options is very fun!
🦄 - Characters' physical appearance.
Aredhel often cuts her hair very short, and has perfected the art or erasing or blending her personal smell so as not to be recognized by any predators. Total erasure of presence is more conspicuous than anything else, though, so her true skill lies in being able to make herself smell like an old tree, or a fawn.
Indis' upturned nose is passed on to Celebrían, Elladan, and all of Arwen's daughters.
Gil-Galad is a very strong swimmer and diver, and enjoys cross-current competitions very much. He can and has sustained himself only on deep-dwelling mollusks and river-grass.
Melian often prefers to give herself small leaves and fronds instead of fingernails.
Húrin really likes braiding his hair in different styles, and in general enjoys wearing scarfs, tassels, cords and textured weaving.
Túor has lots of moles, freckles and blackheads, and was deeply burned during his flight from captivity, so that the skin of his cheeks are perpetually reddened and raised.
Finarfin looks strikingly charming when he laughs. So do many of his relatives - Aegnor, and Fingon most particularly - but Finarfin in particular is made beautiful with joy in a way that makes the world stop a little, and stills the wind rustling in the leaves. His joy is less rare than might be thought, after the Darkening; he has a talent for finding satisfaction and blessings in every circumstance, and a clarity of spirit that grows more terrible and forceful with the crown, but not less lovely.
💖 - Romantic relationships or ships. (This could be as simple as sharing a rareship you enjoy, or an unusual interpretation of a popular/canon ship!)
Thingol and Melian never lose several centuries in deep staring, but there are a few decades of deep meeting of spirits and hearts here and there.
Lúthien attempts the same thing with Beren. She is, he thinks, the most enthralling sight in the world; but there is no deep contemplation with strange touching of souls that exceeds the very human need to bounce a leg or snack on some watercress after an hour or so.

Hii no pressure and if your requests are closed rn please ignore but i was wondering if you'd write more about elrond x Gil-Galad's daughter? maybe one where she's accident prone and he tends to her since he's a healer or something? thank you for writing so much for him ur keeping me fed with so much content rn 😩😩
My requests are open, don't worry!!!! So this isn't a direct part two, but it references The Princess and the Herald! This was a super cute idea, so it's a short and sweet one for you anon!!! I'll keep writing for Elrond as long as y'all want me to <3
Accident Prone Princess
Tumblr media
You were a princess, beautiful, graceful, and poised, expect when you weren’t, which happened to be often. You were a bit accident-prone, frequently getting papercuts or walking much too fast and tripping on the cobblestone walkway.
This often had Elrond worrying over your health and safety. Your poor husband was a gifted healer, and you were his most frequent patient, much to your father’s amusement.
It brought Gil-Galad a great amount of joy to see how deeply Elrond cared for you, and he also seemed to enjoy sending Elrond running all over the city in search of you. You had a sneaking suspicion your father still hadn’t forgiven your husband for that night he caught you two in the garden.
“My starlight, you must be more careful.” Elrond scolded softly, as he knelt before you, brushing a salve over the scratches on your arm. It tingled pleasantly and had a fresh peppermint scent to it.
Your father had stopped court to have Elrond look over your wounds, and you had to sit beside him, the whole court waiting as your sweet husband fussed over you.
“I was trying to keep up with ada, and there was a rock…” You explained, face burning in embarrassment.
Elrond looked up at you with a fond expression, a smile tugging at his lips. “Perhaps I will carry you to all your appointments, lest you lose a limb on your next errand.”
“You seem awfully concerned for someone who convinced her to have a dalliance with him against a garden wall.” Your father drawled, taking a sip of his wine.
Elrond’s face went bright red. “Again, my king, I do apologize for my lack of propriety that night.”
You shot your father a look and caressed Elrond’s cheek. “Pay him no mind, my love, he is only teasing.”
Elrond looked unconvinced, but proceeded to wrap your arm up gently. “Now this needs to stay covered until the morn, then I will check how it is healing.”
You leaned forward and kissed him chastely, smiling at the shy expression on his face. “Thank you, husband.”
“Yes, thank you, Elrond, now we must continue with the court proceedings.” Your father said, turning back to the gathered nobles, who were talking amongst themselves.
Elrond squeezed your hand then turned to leave, gathering up his supplies.
“Yes, if you all could look at section five in the fourth scroll of law?” You asked, sliding into your heir to the throne persona, your back straightening, voice steady.
Elrond was halfway to the door when your father handed you the scroll.
“As it reads here, all elvenkind must—” You cut yourself off, hissing in pain as the scroll sliced the pad of your pointer finger, crimson blood welling up at the site of the wound.
“Elrond.” Your father called, laughter evident in his tone. “Perhaps you should stay?”
Elrond turned to see you with your finger to your lips and rushed back over, already pulling out gauze. “You may be right, my king.”
You groaned and held your hand out to your husband, ignoring the coos of the nobles, who found you and Elrond’s interactions adorable.
Gil-Galad motioned for another chair to be brought, and Elrond sat beside you, diligently wrapping your finger.
“As I was saying, all elvenkind must do good for the land, it is precious, a gift.” You started again, before throwing a grateful smile at Elrond who sat back and watched you prepare to take your throne.

Secret Lovers AU???
Heyyy
I just wanted to know if you could write an AU where Thena and Gil have to keep their relationship a secret? In this AU I imagine that Arishem is Thena’s father, and he is very controlling. He keeps Thena in the house all day and has decided that on her 25th birthday she will be wed to Kro. Thena hates this
(Bc she’s already in love with Gilgamesh, Duh)
And she has to sneak out the house to see Gil.
So what do you think?
Tysm Byeeeee 🫶🏼🫶🏼🫶🏼
"Delivery!"
"Gil!" Thena rushed to the windows, opening them fully for him to climb in and onto her window bench. "I told you not to come tonight."
He just smiled at her, setting down his picnic basket and pulling down the hood of his jacket. "Yeah, but that's when I know you need me the most."
"I thought Father took the lattice down," she frowned as she helped him into her room.
"Yeah, but Karun did us a solid and left the ladder out for me," he chuckled, completely unbothered by her father's efforts to keep them apart. Not that he knew that Gil used it to sneak in. He thought Thena used it to sneak out.
If he knew Gil used it to sneak into her room at night, he would sooner burn down the whole estate.
Gil had been using it for years, though, even when they were just children, whispering about books on Thena's roof under the stars. He had scaled the wall lattice as a pre-teen just trying to get to know his rich and mysterious neighbour. As a teenager, working up the nerve to ask Thena if she'd ever had a boyfriend before. He had scaled that lattice and recited the speech he had memorised from Romeo and Juliet, just to get told that it wasn't exactly Shakespeare's most romantic, despite popular belief.
She had kissed him anyway, though.
"Hey," he smiled, leaning in and kissing her gently. He ran his hands down her arms, "I know you're scared."
She sighed, plunking her forehead onto Gil's chest, laughing when she felt the traces of leaves and bristles from the ivy leaves. "He won't give up on this 'Kro' business, you know. He's determined to marry me off to that monster."
"That won't happen, baby, I promise," Gil attempted to assuage her worries, rubbing her back over her satin robe.
She shook her head, "we got in another fight about it. That's why I told you not to come; if he gets even the slightest idea you're here, he'll have me shipped to the Antarctic."
Gil shrugged, holding her by the waist, "I'd still visit you. Wouldn't have to climb a lattice to do it, either."
She laughed, toying with the strings of his sweatshirt hood. "You shouldn't have to, though."
"I would anyway."
"Gil," Thena insisted, looking up at him, her in bare feet and him still wearing his heavy steel toed boots. "I mean it. I thought now that we were graduated he would have let this go, but-"
But Arishem had only pushed even harder for Thena to form an alliance with his chosen protege and CEO-to-be.
"What did he say?" Gil asked her softly, guiding her to sit with him on the plush window seat, where they'd spent some of the most important moments of their lives, by this point.
She sighed, wilting against Gil's side. "On my 25th birthday he'll announce our engagement to his associates and the whole world. And if I don't go through with it, he'll disown and ex-communicate me completely from the family."
Gil scowled, "that's a bit harsh, hon. I know your dad's a psycho, but we were pretty sure he wouldn't actually kick you out, right?"
She sighed even more heavily, her shoulders dragging down so far it hurt. "Apparently, I thought wrong."
"Oh, Thena," Gil made a sympathetic face, which was all it took for Thena to move closer, clinging to him. He held her just the way she liked. "I'm sorry."
Perhaps she hadn't been hoping that he would suddenly change his mind on things. But was it so foolish to think that he would want his daughter in his life in some way? And he still didn't know anything about her and Gil, and she intended to keep it that way for Gil's safety.
"I shouldn't be surprised," she conceded quietly as Gil pulled her into his lap. "Father has never hesitated to choose his work over me before. I just thought...I thought for once-!"
Gil kissed her temple, "I know, honey, it's okay."
Was it, though? Not that she had any intention of going through with marrying Kro, but her father was far more powerful than she cared to admit. Even if she didn't want to go into the same line of work, she wasn't sure there was any field of society where she could be guaranteed safety from him.
"Hey," Gil whispered again, tipping her chin back to him. "What do you wanna do?"
Thena sniffed, pressing her tears into his shirt and then shaking them off. "I'm not marrying that cretin."
"Great start, babe," he chuckled, and even got a smile for his efforts. He brushed the last of her tears away, "what else?"
Thena inhaled, trying to wrap her mind around things. "I have my own job prospects, although I'm afraid I wouldn't be surprised if Father was capable of rescinding those, given his influence. I might have to start over, maybe even...somewhere new."
This was her most dreaded reality.
They had always known her father would never let her so much as be alone in a room with him, even as children. It was against all odds they had managed to steal what time they did. They had faced being in different classes in school. They had faced Thena's extracurriculars and Gil getting a part time job to help support his family. They had faced her going into university and Gil starting trade school.
They had even faced her being entrapped into a date set up by Kro and her father.
"Okay, where would you want to go?" Gil asked gently. Despite his smiles and joking tones, he was serious. Because wherever she went, he would follow.
"Gil," she shook her head, new tears arising. "Your mom and Sersi are here, you can't move just because I'm getting thrown out."
"They know I'd go anywhere for you."
Thena smiled against his lips as he kissed her again. For all her father's efforts not to let any love into her life, she had been able to sneak Gil her heart, and he had kept it safe for her ever since.
"Really, Thena, you say the word and I'll pick you up, we can go to Mom's until we figure something out," he suggested with a shrug of his shoulders. His tone was light, but his hand on hers was solid. "You don't have to be scared of him, honey."
She rolled her eyes, "I'm not scared of Father, or Kro."
"That's my girl," he winked at her.
Her smile faded slowly, but it did eventually. She squeezed his hands, "But I am scared to not be with you, Gil. And if Father has me thrown out and cuts off all my accounts?--I struggle to think of how far I would have to go just to find a firm willing to let me intern."
Gil tilted his head at her, letting himself smile again. "You say that like you like being rich."
She rolled her eyes again. She hated when he called her 'rich'.
"You already don't use any of that money you have hidden away," Gil shrugged. It was him who had told her that if she took out a little at a time in cash and stashed it away that she could use it without him knowing about it. "So, take what you can and get outta here. He's gonna kick you out anyway so just...come with me."
Thena stared at his outstretched hand. How many times had she dreamed of this?--Gil offering to help her run away from her father and her gilded cage of a home. The delusional and romantic notion of running away with the boy she loved (now the man she loved).
"You're your own woman, Thena, you don't need his name, or his money, or anything!" Gil urged, eager to pull her spirits out of the pit he could see her spiralling into in real time. "I always knew you'd be a badass lawyer, whether he wanted you to or not!"
Oh, Father wanted her to be lawyer, but one that would make good money. He wanted her to be a corporate lawyer, or even a criminal defense. Not a divorce lawyer who worked pro-bonos all the time.
She shook her head, "I'm just done law school, Gil. I haven't even taken the bar, yet."
"Which you'll nail!" he shrugged like it was nothing at all. "I always knew you would, and your dad knows you will, too. That's why he wants you to marry that creep! Because you're too badass on your own and you could take him any day of the week."
"I do not want anything to do with either of them," she shook her head and pulled her robe tighter around herself. She looked around her room, immaculately cleaned for her, full of expensive clothes picked for her. It was a very personalised hotel room, as far as she was concerned. "I should pack."
"I'll help you."
"It's okay," she whispered, kissing his cheek. "You came for a date, not to help me uproot my life."
"Actually," he chuckled as she stood and went to her desk. "I came after you told me not to, because I knew my girlfriend needed me."
She attempted to contain her smile but couldn't. She loved it when he called her his girlfriend.
"And because I will always be right here, babe," he finished more softly, kissing her hair as she collected up what little of her possessions she actually cared about. "You wanna leave tonight, we'll go. We can go anywhere, do anything. I'll go downstairs and fight your dad bare handed if you want me to."
She gave Gil a dry look. He was big, and strong in every sense of the word, but her father was like an eldritch horror out of a fantasy book.
"Okay, fine," he conceded, pulling out the bag she'd used to sneak herself over to his house plenty of times before. "What else do you need?"
She shoved her work materials into the bag. Her textbooks she could access online, and it wasn't like she could keep them physically after the bar, anyway. She bundled up her laptop and phone charger. "Just the stuff in the top drawer."
Gil unceremoniously opened her dresser and shoved everything from the top shelf in. "We can get you new stuff, too. You know how mom loves to go shopping with you."
Thena smiled; Gil's family always felt more loving than even her most fond memories of her father. "Yes, she does."
"Cash?"
She turned and smiled. Gil had no discomfort with the idea that he was going into carpentry and contracting while she came from an ivory tower. As far as he was concerned, she could rob her father for all he was worth and then be happy to sneak cheap snacks into a movie for a date. "Underwear drawer."
"Ooh!"
"Gilgamesh," she drawled, needing to remind him to grab what was necessary, and not whatever of hers was his favourite.
"Feels kind of exciting, right?" he grinned at her as she zipped the main section of the bag closed, including the cash that could keep her comfortable while she was literally finding her footing. "Like we're running away together?"
"Well," she raised her brows at him as she grabbed her hairbrush, "we are, aren't we?"
"Always said we would," he whispered before kissing her again. "You wanna put something else on or go like this?"
"And climb down that ladder in this?" she scoffed, gesturing to her silky little night dress, "no."
"Aw," Gil faked pouting before laughing, "I'd carry you down if you wanted me to."
"I know you would," she answered from her walk-in closet. She truly wouldn't miss anything from in here. Anything of hers that she liked and Gil liked was in that top dresser drawer, for all the other times she had left in the night like this.
Karun had helped them many, many times before.
"Okay," Gil smiled as she stepped out in a perfectly normal looking white sundress. "Ready?"
"Ready," she nodded, her resolve continuing to firm up with everything they packed. She looked up, "what?"
Gil shook his head, setting the bag down, "you look beautiful."
How she loved him. Thena smiled down at her feet shyly before slipping on the sandals she kept hidden in here. They were her only decent walking shoes. "Okay, let's go."
"Hey, you need one more thing."
"What?" Thena blinked, going over everything they'd packed. She had been planning this escape in the back of her mind for years, she was absolutely certain she wasn't forgetting anything. She looked at Gil.
He smiled at her, equal parts terror and excitement. His hands were shaky as he reached into his pocket and knelt down in front of her. He pulled out the ring box, gulping. "You'll need this."

Rescendants - The Crew
Uma: The captain of the Lost Revenge pirate crew, Uma is a fiercely determined leader who doesn’t take anyone’s shit, though with a soft spot for those that are close to her, like her girlfriend, Freddie, and her best friends, Darcy, Harry and Gil. She has a difficult history with Mal, including heartbreak and betrayal, and an equal, if not more, hostile relationship with her mother. She’s determined to show she can be the best without needing help from her mother’s magic.
Harry: The bastard child of Captain Hook, and Uma's first mate. An aggressive and violent young man with psychopathic tendencies, he's the one who gladly does most of the dirty work when pirating. Physical and verbal abuse from his father and older sister caused him to begin lashing out, even to this day he prefers a punch up instead of peaceful resolutions. He does show a softer and more vunerable side with his shipmates, especially his boyfriend Gil. He has an obsession with hooking things, and is terrified of being alone.
Gil: A big, buff golden retriever of a himbo, Gil is quite possibly one of the sweetest people you will ever meet, affectionate and kind to everyone around him. He uses his strength to assist his crew, but he’s a very gentle boy, especially with his boyfriend Harry and his little sister Gabi. He may be far from the sharpest tool in the shed, often lacking common sense, but he has a high level of emotional intelligence, able to help people work through their feelings surprisingly well, like the good boy he is.
Darcy: Uma’s right-hand woman, and sharing her bone to pick with the daughter of Maleficent, Darcy is unquestionably one of the toughest and most terrifying girls on the island, never afraid to put someone in their place, be that with sharp words or her fists. Darcy is one of the few lucky kids in the Isle to have a good, loving relationship with their villainous parent, and she inherited Oogie’s love of scaring. Though she cares deeply for and will do anything to protect those she cares about, she’s not one to be open about her feelings, though a certain Pumpkin prince may help change that.
Freddie: A smooth and sassy con artist, Freddie has the ability to talk just about anyone into just about anything. But with one the sharpest tongues on the Isle, she can also verbally destroy you if the mood hits her right. Despite this, she has a caring side that comes out especially with her girlfriend Uma, her little sister Celia and her father, Dr. Facilier, who taught her all her voodoo tricks. She may be slick, but she’ll never lie to the people she really cares about.
Evie: The Isle's best cat burglar, and the magical daughter of the Evil Queen. Due to her mother's constant reminders of beauty being an importance, the girl is very self conscious about her looks. Evie used to roll with Uma and her crew. After years of Mal manipulating and abusing the lot of them, she grew jealous of Uma, despite her being mistreated by their leader as well. Mal left her gang for dead, and in her grief, both Evie and Uma blamed each other for the abuse, and went their separate ways. Now she reluctantly works with the group in order to get revenge on Mal and to destroy the barrier.
Jay: The smooth-talking and sticky-fingered son of Jafar, Jay has a real knack for getting himself out of trouble with a few good lies. His theft skills made him a useful asset to anyone on the Isle, but here in Auradon, he’s starting to find his place in more honest pursuits, like Tourney. He has a soft spot for his friends, especially his lifelong best buddy, Carlos, though he rarely lets it show. He also has a knack for charming the ladies, though he finds the tables getting turned on him when he meets the daughter of Mulan.
Carlos: The fast-talking, dog-loving techie who just so happens to be the son of Cruella de Vil. The poor boy is more like an abandoned scruffy pup, berated and abused by his mother. He resorted to stealing to eat, since his mother wouldn't provide care for him. He's a petty thief who's got a motor mouth and a knack for making gadgets based off of junk he finds in the Isle. He's always willing to serve as a distraction, or help Jay with a scheme.
AAAAH PART 1 IS FINISHED! This was such a treat to work on with Weeby, and Artzy's been excited for it! Thank you so much to Weebs for helping make the summaries and for her letting me use her OC, Darcy. Make sure to reblog, reply, post and ask for more. @artzychic27 and @msweebyness

End of Year Fic Recs! 🔮
Tagged by @swanmaids! I like this format a lot, thank you 💕 There were so many amazing Silm fics this year that it's nearly impossible to pick out just a few, but I did my best.
Recommend up to 5 series or multi-chapter fics from 2023 that everyone should read (multi-year WIPs count, if the last update was in 2023).
Recommend up to 5 single chapter fics/one-shots (long or short) from 2023 that everyone should read.
Recommend up to 5 fics NOT from 2023 that everyone should read (oldies but goodies).
Recommend up to 5 of your own fics (completed or WIP) from 2023 that everyone should read.
Multi-chapter fics
Strange Currencies by @jouissants (in-progress, Maedhros/Maglor accidental LaCE marriage, M) - this fic is one of my absolute favorite things to come out of 2023, lavishly and heartbreakingly imagined post-canon reembodied/returned Exiles and brilliant maemags falling together in late Beleriand. invest now!!!
here we go again by @i-am-a-lonely-visitor (completed, Orodreth/Celebrimbor & Gil-galad Mamma Mia AU, T) - the most summer fun ever with one of my favorite Celebrimbors, delights me to think about and I think about it often!!
Such a Marriage by DifferentSong (in-progress, fem!Maedhros/Maglor set between Doriath and Sirion, M) - I feel personally blessed by the ability to list multiple maemags longfics on this list. This one is so tender, with incredible characterization for both these two and Tolkien Elves (old & young, sad & gay) in general; leader fem!Maedhros owns my heart.
What the Water Gave Me by @imakemywings (completed, Finduilas/Nienor canon divergence AU, M) - beautifully described and cozily, realistically lived-in development of a relationship between these two in a universe where Nienor survives her suicidal leap; this bandaged the wounds left by CoH for me!
In Twain by @jouissants (completed, gothic and gendery Maedhros/Elrond and Maedhros/Maglor, E) - cinematic reading experience and deliciously winding tale of Elrond's coming to better know Maedhros, Maglor, and himself; so many lines from this--and the ending--just grip me and won't let me go.
Single-chapter fics
Wondrously Wrought by @searchingforserendipity25 (Maedhros & Maglor in a universe where Noldor craft their children's personalities, G) - this beautifully written fic has me in a chokehold months & months later, I simply love it so much--the Fate of it all and the dynamic between them, and how thick the tension and emotion hangs even in these few moments.
and some of us returned by @i-am-a-lonely-visitor (Maedhros/Maglor, past Maglor/Glaurung assault at the fall of Maglor's Gap, M) - fulfilled my wildest dreams of Glaurung angst played straight, eerie and gorgeously written psychological horror told through Maedhros' eyes and his own possessive love for Maglor.
As You Wish by @imakemywings (Maglor/Thranduil battle couple devotion and hurt/comfort, T) - so many great single-chapters this year but this one is SO dear to me; I love eerie attack dog Maglor who simultaneously cares overmuch and I think this ship is so thematically chef's kiss as an alternate ending for him; wry Thranduil is fantastic here too.
one of your girls by @swanmaids (Celegorm/Oromë, Celegorm & Maglor; femininity and internalized homophobia in Valinor, E) - masterful weird mythical Ainur devotional customs surrounding Oromë and his hunt, and a really touching exploration of Celegorm's character in a time when he still has yet to choose his fate. Celegorm's tension with Maglor is great here too.
Played by @disastrousexpense (Maedhros/Maglor, Maedhros/Fingon where Maglor seduces Maedhros through the guise of "teaching" him for Fingon's benefit, E) - one of my favorite Maglors this year, so theatrical and affected and alluring and (in this Valinor period) quite selfish, yet expressive and deeply, deeply feeling. a rollicking story that made me laugh and then made me cry!
Oldies but goodies
Elvish Letters by @ladygavroche (Caranthir & Finrod, Celebrimbor & Fëanor, Maedhros & brothers, epistolary humor, in progress, G) - this is a favorite of mine, along with the Caranthir fic earlier in the same series. Incredible and hilarious epistolary that just sings!!
The Silver Queen by @i-am-a-lonely-visitor (AU where Gil-Galad is Celebrían, trans!Celebrían/Elrond, completed, M) - such a lovingly written fic for a brilliant concept. Multiple scenes of Celebrían's arc in this had me weeping earlier this year.
The High King of the Noldor and His Faithful Hound by shatteredGlasses (Hrunting_License) (Celegorm/Maglor, assault and tensions during Maglor's kingship, completed, E) - During Maedhros' captivity, Celegorm thinks the worst of Maglor, and Maglor uses Celegorm for self-harm. Genuinely disturbing, excellent angst, and very formative for me!
Through the Smoke I See You by Dragonstorm (Maedhros & Maglor, Maglor's Gap and Dagor Bragollach, single-chapter, T) - one of my favorite explorations of Maglor's devotion and guilt towards Maedhros, and the immense risk of trying to hold the Gap! I love it so.
Thistle Whistling on the Wind-Blown Field by happythoughhuman, Torpi (Finrod & Edrahil, Finrod & Avari, culture, environment, storytelling, completed, M) - I've been meaning to revisit this strange gem of a TRSB fic for a while. One of the most vivid explorations of Melkor's impact on the environment in Middle-earth, of serious Elven cultural differences and the notion of Finrod as a kinslayer (while a very Finrod-loving story; he shines in this, making connections as is his wont). Also, won my heart for putting mangroves in Valinor.
My own fics
bite thy wings and let thee crawl (Melkor/Maglor, noncon macro/micro horror porn inspired by this art by @aquaregiaart and Lay of Leithian, E) - the Big Melkor fic, set during Maedhros' captivity. In my head this is my best work of 2023 and probably ever. Come closer... give him a click.... he can't hurt you....
Less Wise (sapphic Maglor/Thranduil, canon divergence, E) - pining with a happy ending in an AU where kinslayer fem!Maglor has come to serve Mirkwood's king fem!Thranduil. This was my attempt to write the sort of comforting and cathartic fic I so enjoy reading.
elvenkings (here on tumblr as well) (moments ft. Orodreth, Thranduil, Elwing, Elrond, G) - my drabbles fic for Sindar Week 2023 about the long-lasting echoes of Menegroth and Iathrim heritage. I'm really happy this brief story resonated!
pursuit (Tulkas/Nessa and Oromë/Nessa, genderfluid Nessa, M) - Nessa and Tulkas wed. Smut and mythical vibes ft. confident and changing Nessa, the dancer and the god of prey. I love that weird Ainur shit.
yes many and beautiful things (Maedhros/Maglor during the War of Wrath, M, now with art by @aquaregiaart!) - After their final argument about stealing the Silmarils, Maedhros and Maglor share themselves with each other wholeheartedly one last time before the end; sort of a "what if they loved each other and that was worse."

How far is your OC willing to go to get what they want?
Hewwo @ooc-miqojak ⸜( ´ ꒳ ` )⸝ ♡
Apologies for the slow replies! As usual I will answer for both my my Miqo'te! Let's start with Satien...
Tumblr media
I personally think that it really depends on what the context is, for Satien it's even more apparent because he is a very determined and sticking to his own ideals kind of person. He can be incredibly selfless and puts the people who he loves and cares deeply about before himself. He so far had a few moments in which showed just how far he is willing to go to get what he wanted...
So as I mentioned a few times before, Satien grew up in the Shroud alone, with the Sylphs to be precise and he made a lot of bad experiences with other people. Till the day he met his first ever friend, whom shared her meal with him as they sat at a warming fireplace. They slowly befriended each other, despite not speaking the same language and in the end he made a promise to her.
To protect her and work towards a better future, which would mean for them to split paths for the time being and him - at mere 12 years old - traveling to Limsa Lominsa alone and joining the Rogue's guild. Which he managed, with the heavy price of his own health. As he worked pretty much every moment of the clock ticking.
Now some years later they met again and their friendship bloomed up once more, but protecting her as a rogue wasn't easy and in the end she did get hurt - not badly luckily. But Satien was very upset at himself and chose to accept an offer which he had gotten a few months prior - to become a gunbreaker. Despite his body not being made for a physical job like this.
Due to him growing up alone and mostly living on vegatables and roots till he managed to go to Limsa and earn some gil, Satien is quite frail. (He is 159cm an weights 44kg) So him picking up a job like this would have it's drawbacks for him. The training at first was quite hard and he needed to be creative to work around his limitations, which means chose lighter weapons and armor.
So he went far, beyond his own limits to keep this friend save.
Another situation which made him change profession was that a person he cared about got hurt, almost dying on him and Satien was only able to watch as he didn't know any healing magic at the time. Which ended up being the moment in which he was finally ready to step into the footprints of his mother.
Becoming a White Mage.
Tumblr media
Now let's talk about Reah!
He is a bit less 'noble' with his intentions and uhm-.. let's say you don't wanna stand between him and what he wants. But then again, it's all about the context!
So there were a few situations where he will do A LOT to get to where he wants to be. A good example is when his future husband was getting abducted and a person involved dared to challenge him - let's say that person learned to not mess with the medic very quickly. Reah will use his knowledge in alchemy to make someone speak, may it be through potions of truth, or little mind games.
And I mean: Oh look if you don't talk you might die and oh.. your nose started bleeding. How are you feeling? Dizzy? Hm, well you time is ticking, but if you speak.. I might consider giving you this antidote.
But to go this far he WILL need a valid reason, he won't do that otherwise but if there is a reason his morals can be a bit... questionable at times. Ahem.
Thank you for the ask @ooc-miqojak

Mizuki was showing Edmont around Sharlayan, they finally stopped at the Last Stand for a cup of tea and a break.
"it is quite a nice little area." Edmont said, looking around the café "you must have come here often." he smiled, thanking the waitress as she brought over their drinks.
Tumblr media
"This is the most I've ever been." Mizuki admitted, "I never had the gil nor time to come and..." she paused a moment "my master only really brought her apprentices."
Edmont frowned "you were also her apprentice?"
Mizuki reached for her cup, bringing it to her lips blowing the steam off.
Tumblr media
"Yes and no... I was her apprentice but not her true apprentice.." she sipped her drink quietly "I had no talent for healing magicks and could not master her teachings.."
"That would be no reason to not treat you the same." Edmont argued.
Tumblr media
"While that might be true, her apprentices bore me no love. They thought I was wasting our master's time by not learning the true superior healing craft." she sighed deeply "I did everything I could to try and make her proud but it was never right and only served to make her angrier but she would never admit to any ill deeds. In her mind she treat us all the same."
Tumblr media
Edmont still struggled to understand why Mizuki seemed so indifferent to her treatment. "All the people we spoke to today.. they sung your praises and I simply cannot understand how a guardian could forget one of their charges."
Tumblr media
"Unless it was related to sagecraft, her reputation or her precious sage apprentices. It wasn't worth mentioning." Mizuki reached for a biscuit "I tried to learn summoning once..it ended horribly and I blew a hole in the wall and broke my horn off..." she paused.
Tumblr media
"When she found out, she was more concerned about the gossip that would be spread around about her rather than my injuries." Mizuki chuckled painfully "but that was just the way.."
"Well I think I need to speak to this woman-" Edmont said sharply, setting his cup down.
"Please don't. You'd be wasting your breath." Mizuki pleaded "what's done is done."
Tumblr media
"You can't change the past and she's stubborn. There's no telling her she wrong." Mizuki smiled warmly at Edmont "besides I have a loving family and somewhere I can call home."
Edmont's ears tinged red "well I am very proud of my daughter and all my sons."

I am 40 eps away from this, but I want to talk about how much I actually love PA ending.
Yes, arguably the most infamous cdrama ending I am aware of.
I LOVE IT!!!
I actually find it incredibly fitting both in symmetry - the narrative ends as it started - CQ alone (having now lost both the men in her life in different ways), stranger in a strange land so to speak.
But also because it just fits with the themes of this drama - which is that this is a hell world of bleakness and sometimes you are just too late - and if you hesitate, it won't give you second chances.
CQ realizes both that she loves YY and that Yan Xun is no longer the man she fell in love with too late - I love that she realizes it all much much too late for any sort of fix let alone a happy ending because it fits. YY was terrible at showing his feelings and she loved YX for too long (and saw him as her mirror for too long) and so we end on that ice field. If YY could have expressed himself better/sooner (but how could he? It is so not him), if CQ could have breathing room to think though her feelings, if YX could work past his horrific damage, if if if if but none of this could really happen and the characters remain themselves. It's like that old "well well well if this isn't the consequences of my own actions" meme.
Side note - this is a rare drama that "allows" FL a genuine romantic past before falling for her endgame lover and I love that so much. I love that she was not deluded about her feelings and it wasn't an obstacle or a crush - she genuinely and deeply loved Yan Xun. And he genuinely and deeply loved her back. And she was not deluded about the type of person he was (ie why she fell for him) - it's just he changed gradually but thoroughly and stopped being that man. (As I was telling @aysekira he and YY have inverse arcs - YY becomes more human as the story goes on and YX loses his humanity. Just as by the end, YY would put her over his cause and YX won't, but it was the reverse at the start.) They grew apart under the traumas and pressures of the world. And yet it doesn't diminish or cheapen her love for YY in any way that she loved someone else before him. Adults adulting, who'd imagine!
I tend to like a lot of endings fandom hates (this, eagle flag, hong gil dong etc) but this is probably one of my ultimate faves in the "reviled endings" sweepstakes.

Hey is there an elf headcanon you wanna rant about that's been tearing your heart out and using it as an embroidery tool? I feel like it's good for authors to get to air this out every so often.
this is has been sitting awhile just because I have been trying to figure out how to put the New Thought into words!
I've been thinking a lot lately about differences between Men and Elves and taking the consequences of what we know about how each interacts with Music to their logical end. So... this has somehow manifested in me thinking about how Elves build homes and decorate them vs how Men do. (and as per usual, this relates to Elrond and how he is different from everyone around him!)
Elves are super orderly and are bound to Arda and bound to their Themes...and they have all the time in the world to really think about their spaces and curate them. So I wouldn't say they're necessarily minimalist, but all of the decor is really built into the structure of the building -- especially for Noldorin Elves who like to Make Shit. So Elves don't really decorate with objects -- like, all of their objects are already inherently gorgeous in how they make them. Down to the silverware. So that's "decor" in a sense. But rather than clutter objects, you get beautifully wrought wall sconces and incredibly detailed murals -- stuff that got built into the building. And when it comes to soft items for making a space comforting, since they don't really spend hours on end sleeping and beds are more for relaxing & sex, and they don't feel temperature, I think they might just have like one or two pillows and one gorgeous coverlet and that's it.
Like they don't really get setting up objects around the room. But humans do it because we don't have the time to think so deeply and most of us don't necessarily build our own homes like that. We nest somewhere. So we bring in objects we love to surround ourselves with and sometimes it can get rather messy, and that's Really Weird to an elf. Especially if you're bringing in rocks/twigs/feathers etc. etc. because that has a home outside??? What are you bringing it inside for??? Leave it where it is???
And then this also brings me to Elves and clutter objects in general -- and collectables/gifts. And I can't remember if this is canon in Laws & Customs or something but I've just decided that you can't just give "raw materials" as a gift, short of flowers (but even then those ought to be arranged carefully into a nice bouquet). Like most Elves won't be mean if you hand them a cool rock you found but they'll just be confused.
Anyway this leads me to Elrond. I've already headcannoned that he has a level of nesting & bowerbird behavior from the Ainur genetics (What are Doriath and Mordor and Taniquetil but Big Nests? Rivendell = nest). And then, via Ainur have Bird Tendencies, that leads to bowerbird behavior of "I have a MATE and so thus I need to DECORATE" -- so naturally this leads to him absolutely going ham feral on Rivendell when he and Cel get married (hello pillows, hello blankets, hello clutter objects and ribbons and feathers etc etc. etc. oh Celebrian likes weaving?? Hi babe I bought you seven looms for your loom room!! Cel: "Wh--")
ANYWAY this brings me to the Mannish side of him, and I wonder how much of the decorating instincts are mannish. As well as the gifting instincts. And when he was younger he kind of learned that rocks & stuff aren't appropriate gifts. You gotta do stuff with that. And he just got super repressed about all of the collectibles and tried to keep that tamped down. Then Cel comes along and he starts leaving her rocks and she's like ????? and Gil's like that means he likes you. And once Cel gets the hang of this I think they make a great team. He collects cool shit and she does all of the crafting/carving/etc.
But yeah I've been thinking a lot about how Elves want things to be orderly, and how this might extend to even a room, and how each piece in that room is carefully designed and curated to be harmonious with everything else...and men, we just throw shit in there because We Like It.
