The scene we deserved:

Hannibal & Jack in the interrogation room after Hannibal turned himself in

Jack tapping his notes

"And what about Will, what does he have to do with all of this Hannibal?"

Hannibal holds his cuffed hands up, half a reminder, half of an implied shrug

"Nothing? I manipulated him into loving me"

Jack rubs his face, he's deeply spiritually exhausted by all of this

"How Hannibal? I need more then that"

Hannibal quirks a small sarcastic smile

"With manipulations obviously Jack"

Jack sighs deeply

"so what? You cooked him dinner a lot?"

"yes exactly that"

"And you bought him gifts? Things he wouldn't or couldn't buy himself but would enjoy?"

Hannibal nods this time, a slight incline of his head.

"Yes, I see you understand"

Jack squeezes his eyes shut. Yeah he thinks he understands exactly. Still he continues

"And you found ways to spend time with him even when it was difficult for you both?"

"Yes, every day if possible"

Jack rolls his eyes slightly

*No shit Hannibal*

"And you share your interests with him? Talk to him about the things you care about?"

"Always, speaking to Will is one of the greatest joys of my life"

Jack just nods, resigned

*yeah that tracks*

"And you've taken an interest in his interests as well Hannibal?"

"Of course, William has the most beautiful mind I've ever known. His interests are infinitely fascinating even when they're not my own, they become mine because they're his"

Jack just stares at Hannibal for a second.

*There's no damn way he's that naive*

"That's just a relationship Hannibal, you're in a relationship with him, with Will."

Hannibal stares impassively at Jack

Jack is unwilling to break the silence, he's tired of being jerked around. Tired of these two grown men and their constant theatrics. He just stares back

Hannibal finally sighs, conceding that he was the one who would need to make a way forward in this situation.

"I would like it very much if you just wrote down manipulation"

Jack doesn't bother to react to that in any meaningful way

Hannibal stills, spreading his hands out on the table, the closest Hannibal Lecter would ever come to being humble

"For William Jack, do it for William"

Jack looks at Hannibal in that moment. He looks sincere. He looks worried. He's not sure if it's better or worse that The Chesapeake Ripper is genuinely in love with Will Graham.

"Right"

Jack writes , Hannibal Lecter, The Chesapeake Ripper manipulated target Will Graham into believing he was in love with him'

Hannibal sighs in obvious relief, all the tension leaving his body in an instant

"Thank you Jack"

Jack rubs his face, deep in thought

"... You saved my wife's life Hannibal. I can't ever repay you for that. But I can return the favor"

Hannibal nods, acknowledging the sentiments both spoken and implied

"Thank you Jack, thank you for understanding"

Jack clenches his jaw

"It's not for you"

"Even so, thank you"

The exhaustion breaks over Jack like a wave. He wants to be done, he wants to be out of here. He wants to go home and hold his wife while he still can.

"... Good luck Hannibal"

Hannibal smiles then, genuinely, it's a gentle, loving, eager smile that's disturbing on Hannibal the Cannibal's face

"I don't need luck Jack, I have William"

"Yeah that's what I'm afraid of"

Jack does his best to not think about Hannibal Lecter at all, not even when he has to go back, not even when Will asks him to unlock the cage and let his monster out, not even when they seemingly fall off a cliff and into the ocean, together. Always together.

*I don't need luck Jack, I have William*

Till death do us part.

"Bella how're you feeling my beautiful? I brought home Spumoni. I've been thinking we should take a vacation. Go back to Italy for awhile. What do you think?"

Bella looked tired, but still beautiful, she was always beautiful, would always be beautiful to Jack. No matter what

"That sounds lovely Jack. So romantic, what's gotten into you?"

"Not a thing. I just don't want to waste a moment I could be spending with you. I've seen the alternative. If we were separated... Living death. I can't stand the thought. So I'm retiring, we'll go wherever you want for as long as you want."

"Oh Jack, I love you too, my sweet man."

Yeah, Jack Crawford understood Hannibal Lecter just fine. Fate made him lucky in love too.

And who was he to argue with fate on the subject of true love?

Fate obviously knew better then him. He kissed Bella, gentle, like she was precious, because she was.

"Don't know if I'm sweet, but I'm yours"

Bella smiled, radiant. Jack was sure the universe smiled back.

the "diagnosis" Chilton gave Will during his trial was the one closest to the truth ("Will Graham has never been diagnosed. He won't allow anyone to test him. He has carefully constructed a persona to hide his real nature from the world. He wears it so well, even Jack Crawford couldn't see past it. (...) There is not yet a name for whatever Will Graham is.")

unlike Alana Bloom or Jack Crawford, he saw what a manipulator Will was and that in front of them he played a poor, confused, wounded bird ("(...) A particularly-manipulative one at that. Poor, confused, wounded bird for Agent Crawford and Doctors Lecter and Bloom. And for me, well, I get the psychopath's triumvirate: charm, focus and ruthlessness. The charm, of course, being debateable.")

he believed Will that Hannibal may be the Chesapeake Ripper and said Jack Crawford: "Hannibal once served me tongue and made a joke about eating mine. It's hard not to at least consider it.". Jack ignored him. (I think Jack was already planning some large-scale action against Hannibal, but that's a topic for another post)

he called Dr Lecter "Hannibal the Cannibal"

he understood that Will Graham was alive because Hannibal Lecter liked him that way

criticized Jack for letting Will and Hannibal get closer to each other and then leaving Will alone ("You dangle Will Graham and now you cut bait. You are letting Hannibal have him hook, line and sinker.")

when Jack expressed hope that the relationship between Hannibal and Will was one of those friendships that ends after the disemboweling, Chilton told him: "I would argue, with these two, that's tantamount to flirtation. Will is going to lead you right to him." and let's be real, he was right.
