so you know how throughout the show reggie is perfectly content with hanging out with ray even though he can’t see or hear anything the ghost does right? imagine that’s because that’s just how it’s always been for reggie back when he was alive. his relationship with his parents wasn’t the best (as so eloquently stated by luke in a singular line) but I assume he kind of,,,created this illusion? that he was happy, that they loved him and each other. but his efforts always end up being one sided, and I can see him actively denying to the band that anything was wrong bc hey it’s fine we hang out and have fun, but it’s just him having conversations with himself and his parents not really acknowledging him. and so he spends time with ray the same way he spends time with his parents, and thinks hey, this is pretty nice.
and now think about reggie post-caleb, visible and audible and human, coming back to hang out with ray as he usually does, except this time ray looks up and him and smiles. asks him how he’s doing, about their band practice and whether he’s had any issues with being able to eat again. and reggie just. breaks. because this is everything he’s ever wanted and more.

ALSO WHILE IM HERE I NEED TO TALK ABOUT THE RESURFACE OF JULIE AND THE PHANTOMS
So as we know jatp was cancelled a few years ago after waiting for months for a season two announcement. An announcement that never came..
BUT! All of the cast has been posting about jatp or referencing jatp in posts, for example in madisons instagram post today teasing her new single in the caption she states she ‘channelling her inner Julie’ AND she put #jatp in the caption, Owen’s tiktok about the possibility of a jatp season 2, jeremy covering ‘this band is back’, savannah posting a tiktok about all of the season 2 rumours, Kenny being back with his old agency, the Netflix contract ending, kenny putting @julieandthephantoms in his instagram bio again, jadah responding to a video about jatp AND Charlie cutting his hair like lukes (he said he would only do that if there was season 2)
So over the past few days I have been gathering all of this evidence and praying to the gods that luck will be on our side and we will get what we have been wishing for since 2020 🙏🙏
(And if season 2 does get announced I will be an absolute pain in the ass for about 3 days ☺️)

Its come to my attention that some people are still alive in the Jatp fandom, and I need it to be kept alive because I've been working on a season 2 fic for three years around Willex, and if someone doesn't read it I will lose my mind because 7/10 chapters are just out there and I'm still writing the rest of it, and I do plan on finishing it because these little gay ghost guys have infiltrated my brain
Update: the link is in the replies!

I love your blog so much!! I am brand new to JATP, deeply in love, and completely heartbroken it was canceled. I need everyone to stop teasing us about s2. But I also can’t help but think of the beautiful parallels with the story if it is renewed — coming back to life, getting a second act, etc. Art mimicking life etc etc. 💚
hi there and welcome to the fandom!!! ♥️ i'm so happy you find this little gem of a show. believe me, you have so much wonderful content to dig into if you want to.
also, i can totally empathize with the feeling of being heartbroken. i still remember how i felt when we finally were told the show got cancelled. i hadn't been in an active fandom for a still running show for so long, i forgot how awful cancellation news can feel. and even with all my other fandoms i've been in before, they'd mostly run longer than was good for them, so cancellation usually felt more like a relief. so, not getting a season 2 really felt like the worst thing when it happened. there was so much potential, so much wonderful music we could have gotten, so many great stories and character moments i was looking forward to. i just really wanted these kids to get their happy ending, you know?
i made my peace with not getting more of jatp. i love the little revival of the fandom we are seeing right now—with "old" fans coming back and new people discovering the show—but i think we all have to be honest with ourselves that it's highly unlikely we'll ever get another season or a movie or a tour. (doesn't mean we all can't have a little fun—i think this fandom's rather notorious for seeing signs everywhere. mostly, i just see it as gallows humour. we've all just been through a lot. 😶)
anyway, yes, a second season would've been great for all the little things they've already put into the first season. the foreshadowing would've been amazing. and like i said, the boys would've deserved to come back to life and finally get everything they ever wanted (love, family, fame, closure etc.). either way, it is what it is.
but as long as we're all still here watching the show, talking about it, creating things around it, is it ever really dead? ♥️

Going into BTTMW 2, I mostly expected for us to be told the ending of Jatp just to get the full sense of closure. But to hear that like there’s wasn’t a particular ending that was shared, just everyone’s thoughts of what ending could have been it’s… more so bittersweet in a good way.
What is great about no second season is that, it’s open ended in a way. Yes, that cliffhanger ending is our technical “ending” but… it opens so many doors to what could have been. All the fan content that’s out there, it’s not incorrect, like our version of Jatp isn’t incorrect.
With most fandoms (at least my experience being them), most of the fan content that’s out there is like “fixing” things in the source material so that it’s better in our minds (a good old “the fans know the characters better than the writers”). But with Jatp, that’s not there, like majority of the content is just like “continuing from where it was left off”. Continuing on with the friendships and dynamics that were already established.
As nice as it would be have this sense of closure (especially given how up in the air a renewal was for over a year of waiting to get the news we got… closure would have at least softened that in hindsight) and know what ending was planned, it’s nice that it’s up to interpretation.
The last canon thing we have that it ended on was the boys still being with Julie and being able to be physically touched now or at least for the time being, that’s all I need. (For arguments sake, they find a way to get Nick unpossessed I believe in them or he probably was just like that for one episode given how the show was with treating the ‘conflict’ of that episode is that it stayed within that one episode) bc Our phantoms are still with Julie because they’re her phantoms and they’ll always be hers. It’s bittersweet to have but we have it and it’s what we got :)

All I want for Christmas is a JATP Christmas song/performance
Julie has Phantom-colored tinsel in her hair
Luke has traded his beanie for Santa's hat
Reggie is wearing antlers and a red nose
Alex has decorated his drum kit with lights and Christmas stockings
And when I say want I actually mean need.
(Also, wouldn't say no to season 2 ...)

Never have I ever....enemies to lovers?
I haven't done this yet but... I think if I ever start venturing into writing for another fandom, I might want to explore Ranma/Ryoga in Ranma 1/2 but I'm not there yet so... in JatP:
This is requiring intentional thought so I’m gonna try to make it Reggie, just for you! 😀 But gosh, it’s hard to make anybody Reggie’s enemy. Let’s see what we can do. It also got long so I'm gonna put in a cut.
It starts as a simple misunderstanding when they’re small children (turns out we’re gonna make this PeterPatterLina. There will also be no [intentional] murder attempts so consider this enemies lite™).
Luke stole the swing Reggie wanted at recess when they were in kindergarten and he decided that they were enemies for life. Over time, he forgets the reason that he hates Luke (and Luke never figures it out). Luke also started to dish the hate back, they don’t turn full bully on each other but it’s close. A “harder than strictly necessary” hip check into the pool or tackle in PE, mostly harmless pranks like stinky food hidden in lockers and letting the air out of their bike tires. Their friends refuse to take part in their weird little feud while also exchanging amused looks because… dudes sometimes look VERY flirty.
New teachers at the school unwittingly pair them together for group work (seasoned teachers gave up trying to force their reconciliation years ago) and it never goes well, they’re both more invested in the others’ demise than their own grades.
There are unspoken rules: they never mess with each others’ instruments or families.
Anyway, Julie and Reggie are best friends/on the cusp of will they/won’t they dating, and she’s neutral on Luke, completely understanding that this long-standing feud is probably based on something ridiculous. She gets paired with Luke for some sort of songwriting assignment and is granted access to a completely different side of them than she’s ever gotten to know before. They build a friendship of their own, kind of on the DL while Julie is also trying to explain to Reggie that he doesn’t actually need to hate this guy.
Cue weird miscommunication drama when Reggie finds out. He and Julie are in a fight and he won’t listen to reason, she ends up dating Luke, Reggie falls further into a spiral until maybe something happens that loosens him up some and he winds up spilling his guts to someone, maybe Flynn or Alex. How he feels betrayed and abandoned by the girl he loves. Maybe it’s Alex. And Alex can help him see that Luke doesn’t even know why Reggie hates him and Reggie realizes that he no longer has any idea either.
It takes him some time but he reaches out to Julie again to reconcile and they both apologize and hug and cry. He and Luke broker a truce of sorts and Reggie is still heartbroken but he shoves it down to support his best friend. After extended time pining and learning that he and Luke actually missed out on the possibility of THEM being best friends, he starts to develop feelings for Luke too and cue another crisis.
The two sets of friends wind up becoming unbelievably close, doing all of the things we’d expect from them, and Luke and Julie both realize how much they love Reggie too and i don’t really want to rely on drunkenness but it fits so maybe they wind up at a party and wind up under the influence of something and Luke kisses Reggie and *insert bi panic here* and then hop, skip, and jump to PaterPatterLina. 😅
THANK YOU!
never have I ever

Been thinking lately about tv shows I grow up watching, comparing them a little bit with shows I watch nowadays in streaming services, and I had a sort of thought turn to essay. It is completely based on personal perceptions, and I have no evidence to support any of the claims, so feel free to ignore it.
Thought about Charmed running for 8 seasons, The Vampire Diaries for 7, Once Upon a Time for 7, Supernatural for 15…. and I tried to remember their first seasons, which were good, but if you watch them today you can see they were a little bit more focused on simple stories and plots, not entering yet to the big world building. Is not that shows back then weren’t cancelled, but it wasn’t as common as it is with streaming services – if a show got cancelled it was because indeed almost nobody watch it or it wasn’t attractive enough for the audience. So, why was the first season simple? Because the writers and show runners had confidence that the possibility of more seasons was high. So, the first season often worked as an introduction to the world and the story, building the foundation; the development of the plot, the worldbuilding and the character development could be achieved in upcoming seasons.
Take for example The Vampire Diaries, first season is good and interesting, but is focused on Mystic Falls story; then we have the upcoming seasons where they started with the vampire lore of their universe, the introduction of the original family… basically all the details that made the show better. Not to mention they had to compete against the popularity of Twilight during those years. If TVD was made today in a streaming service with the exact same plot but reduced to 8-10 episodes, would it have survived 7 seasons? I believe it would have been cancelled after season 2. Like the other shows I mentioned, well, Supernatural may have survived due to pure pressure from the fans.
Then I thought about shows I liked from streaming services and that were cancelled way to early – Julie and the Phantoms, Our Flags Means Death, Shadow and Bone… If JATP had been created as a Disney/Nick channel show, it could have survived 4 seasons at least. OFMD and Shadow and Bone could have had the final seasons they needed. (Let's assume for the purpose of this narrative that having diverse shows was a regular thing back then).
Where am I going with all of this? Well, to the point that streaming services may have taken away the opportunity of being allowed to have a simple first season to set the foundations of my story. They had taken away the ability to give time for the viewers to engage in my story.
For streaming services, they need to watch it all in the first month, or otherwise it is a failure that didn’t catch the eye of anyone. It needs to be trending, it needs to be top ten in as many countries as possible, it needs to have followers in all the social media platforms we create for it, it needs to bring subscribers in… all that with just the first season of 8-10 episodes. And if you don’t get all of that, then sorry, you get cancelled. And even if you get half of that, like the popularity but not the viewership, cancelled (i.e. JATP and Shadow and Bone). Let be honest, the majority of the shows from the 90s and early 2000s wouldn’t have survived this; not because they were bad, but because a lot of them engaged viewership in their latter seasons, not since the first one.
And I think that the main consequence of this modern day of doing TV shows, is that it affects the new shows. Take for example the new Percy Jackson, I love it, but what was something people noticed? The pacing was fast, they were given to much information from other books… but it wasn’t their fault, the studio asked to reduce it to 8 episodes. And they were given as much information as they could about the story, because they didn’t know if a second season was possible. The same happened with ATLA Live Action, the pacing was fast because apparently seasons of over 8 episodes are forbidden in streaming services.
Most of the comments I saw about PJODisney and NATLA, was that there was room for improvement, and I was like, of course it is. It is just their first season; they were allowed to make mistakes and learn from them. They are allowed to experiment on the stories and see the reactions of the viewers, this is why it is so important to allow more seasons after the first one.
In conclusion, the way streaming services manage their TV shows in only the categories of instant hit or failure, it slowly ruining them. Writers now have the pressure to encapsulate as much information as possible in one season to make it attractive, which affects the development of the story and characters.
Money grabbers studios are slowly taking away the liberty to be creative when writing a show and having time to develop them. It wouldn't be surprised if we end up with the series having the same plot, like all the new MCU movies.

Last Line Game
RULES: Post the last sentence you wrote (fanfic / original / anything) and tag as many people as there are words in the sentence.
"And everybody online seems to think we need to visit the Spam museum…"
Which would be the last line of the first chapter of JatP season 3. (Am I done writing season 2, you ask? Don't worry about it!)
Tagged by @onlygenxhere. I've seen a few enough other posts floating around to think that the whole fandom's been tagged, but if you haven't then please feel free to share!

A while back I threatened to post my outline of a hypothetical season two of JATP. This is that outline (seasons 3-5 will be longer coming but they're also gonna happen because I said so). I'm using what I know Kenny said about how the show would have gone, which means I'm not letting myself do ships other than Juke and Willex since those are the only ones we know would have been canon in the rest of the show, and I'm also trying to achieve the ending Kenny planned (even though I have. No idea if I'd make the same calls? Anyway)
So this season in my head would have three major Subjects: developing the backstory of Trevor/Bobby and beginning overt Carrie development via her interactions with him, an Alex family arc (letting us develop not only Willex but also his relationship with Julie, as well as looking into his past with the guys), and of course the Nick possession plotline (sorry Nick you're last but most pressing I swear). Externally, the framework for this is a school show where Julie and Nick have to work together (think the dance thing but as a season long arc whoops. We have to get them in the same room often. For dramatic irony)
Episode Thoughts below
Episode 1:
As a teaser we would get a flashback to Julie and Carlos talking about the ghosts, helping recap the previous season while establishing what Carlos knows and how he feels about it.
The main plot of this episode would be Nick/Caleb trying to get closer to Julie and Luke pouting, for which Julie calls him out since it's just Nick trying to be friends as far as she knows.
Because the guys are able to touch Julie and have been revealed to Carlos, Luke is like "what if we revealed ourselves to other ppl, like our parents" and Alex talks him out of it - at the time it all seems very face value but this is obviously foreshadowing his feelings on the family stuff
Bobby/Trevor is panicking and trying everything to learn more about the band, including attending a JATP show
The featured song for this would be the show Trevor attends, which would either tie into Luke's jealousy over Nick or poke at Trevor's issues by referencing the guys' pasts. Possibly if it's cleverly written we can get both, and Luke apologises to Julie about the Nick thing afterwards while Trevor falls into a guilt spiral
Episode 2
Teaser: Trevor shows up to the Molina house while Julie is out to talk to Ray, looking super frazzled (directly following guilt spiral above)
The main plot would be Alex and Luke having another issue while talking about their families, resulting in Alex going to find Willie but being unable to talk to him and eventually ending up at Julie's house as Luke and Reggie look for him; he opens up to Julie about his relationship with his parents and why Luke going from "screw family!" To "man I love my parents" is so hurtful in particular
Carlos and Flynn work together trying to divert Trevor and Ray's questions about the band. This is the comedic relief but can also be used to plant some seeds of a Flynn insecurity arc
Carrie decides to admit she liked Julie's show to Nick, because in her mind that'll put them "on" again, only to find that he's reacting strangely to her in a way that's not normal annoyed Nick
Featured songs include a Carrie rehearsal where we see her distracted by how badly her conversation with Nick went and a Hollywood Ghost Club show that Alex sees when he goes looking for Willie, which ends up making him more upset when he sees Willie dancing in it
Episode 3
After Alex saw the HGC they're like clearly we need to get Willie out of there so both the teaser and the main plot are this; Willie is under Caleb's control and there are a series of near-misses with Caleb!Nick just out of sight
Carlos is upset about being left out and complains to Flynn, who is also deeply upset but tries to distract him
Trevor tries to ask Carrie about Julie's band but she is only interested in complaining about how weird Nick has been
Featured songs include a rap by Flynn designed to distract Carlos and make him laugh, which gets cut off partway through, and a Willex duet that's also kind of a battle of the bands between jatp and the hgc
Episode 4
Willie knows Caleb is coming back and the freeing wasn't successful so he begs them to go as the teaser
Julie can't give Alex Willie so she decides she wants to give him closure with his family - while Luke was ok with this last season Alex is not and they finally have a conversation about how they all have overstepped with that stuff, keeping Julie from actually making contact
Carrie realises her dad is severely messed up over jatp and decides she has to investigate this (because if she is a Good Person then she can make people like her!) and attempts to ingratiate herself again with Julie and Flynn (yes this goes terribly)
Caleb!Nick and Julie continue to hang out, which is mostly just ominous and also showcases Luke's development since episode one bc he's annoyed but doing much better
Featured song here is a Caleb!Nick and Julie duet they're thinking about doing for the school show
Episode 5
Willie finds out that Caleb is possessing Nick in the teaser
Julie enlists the others to do something nice for Alex, and they write a song with an Alex feature while struggling to dance around the whole "your boyfriend is being held captive by an evil jazz ghost" thing
Flynn confronts Carrie about her sudden niceness, leading Carrie to snap back and pick at Flynn's insecurities - Carrie walks away knowing she's failed at her original plan but also Flynn walks away deeply upset
Carlos becomes convinced, between Trevor's weirdness and Carrie's, that the Wilsons are part of some grand ghost conspiracy, and attempts to investigate accordingly, ending up sneaking into the Wilson house
The featured song for this episode is the Alex song they write
Episode 6
In the teaser, Alex's family sees JATP on Youtube
The main plot here is Julie and Alex navigating the fuckery that the Mercer family brings, partly them being "how dare you use his image!!!" on a legal level and partly them saying shit Alex Knows isn't true about who Alex was to them
Willie is trying to escape the HGC to warn the others about Caleb!Nick
Trevor finds Carlos who decides to confront him and realises as he's explaining his elaborate conspiracy theory that Trevor probably stole "my name is Luke" from Luke
Featured songs are a Trevor song he plays while explaining himself to Carlos and a song that JATP plays when they realise they can't get rid of the Mercers or call them out any other way
Episode 7
Willie appears post-"yes this is actually Alex" song and warns them about Nick/Caleb before getting yanked away
Alex gets to properly have it out with the family members who are present (some family members reconcile and some remain assholes that Alex gets to call out at the end) and ends up being like "all I care about is Willie, Im dead so we don't need to matter to each other" or something I don't know how I'd have him say it yet or who gets that speech (his dad? Probably?)
Julie and the guys try to figure out what to do, struggling to act normal around Caleb!Nick as they try to come up with a plan to help Willie; this takes them to the night of the school show
Carrie and Carlos both want to ask Julie questions about what's up with Trevor and get brushed off bc of the stress of everything else; Flynn runs interference but is visibly upset at being left out of the planning again
The only song in this is one from the school show rehearsal, maybe a Dirty Candi number or a Flynn song so we can keep the JATP with Nick song for the finale
Episode 8
In the teaser, Caleb knows Julie knows who he is and threatens her to stay away from his club, including Willie
Julie apologises to Carlos for brushing him off and then scolds him for all the stuff with Trevor, who she avoids like the plague; she thanks Flynn for everything she's done lately
The few Mercers who reconciled with Alex come to the show
Using the power of love, friendship, and aggressively singing, Julie and the guys push Caleb out of Nick (everyone thinks they upped their hologram light show game when the purple smoke appears) - Nick is bewildered but deeply grateful and gets some non-Caleb singing in at the finale of the song

Hey new fantom here /
I just have some questions that bug me and I'd like to know if we have answers to them or not.
Like first, Netflix took A YEAR to cancel the show. Did they ever do that for other shows ? I feel like they generally only need 2 to 6 months to do that. A year and half seems like something went wrong.
From what I read the entire cast was ready to jump into a second season by the time they were cut. I dont think the show is too expensive to produce... and the fanbase was definitely there so I just don't understand.
I saw some video saying that something went wrong in the negotiations between Kenny ortega and Netflix but I've seen no proof and I just don't see Kenny ortega doing anything that would jeopardise the show
Even I AM NOT OKAY WITH THIS that was cut in 2020 for covid reason was cut within 6 months of its release ! So in that idea if JatP was also cancelled for covid reason ( which I would understand. I'd still be mad but covid fucked us all over ok) it would have been announced before March 2021 ??? So why DECEMBER 2021???
I just wish Netflix would just force their show writers to not make a cliffhanger If they're not 100% sure the series is gonna get another season.
I've seen other people say this. JatP would have been just fine, as good as it was, if it had finished on their hug and maybe Carlos and rey walking in revealing they could see the guys 24/7 now too like wow they're basically alive they're gonna be an amazing band they all love each other THE END.
But noooo we have the stupid nick and caleb thing which raises soooo many more questions that I WANT answered ! Why can't Netflix have acceptable ending shows if no show is sure to get renewed? Also @ any show creator out there please don't make your show with Netflix I swear
Anyways I'm just very confused I saw some people saying maybe when the exclusivity clause ends we'll get something. Tbh I just wish instead of making new dumb shit Netflix would just give all the shows they already have like 1 more episode to give them an acceptable ending
*coughs* looking at you disney channel with the owl house *coughs*
Like I'd rather have some sort of ending to a good show than new shit I don't care about ! Netflix understand that having a bunch of unfinished shows is not good !! It doesn't make anyone want to watch your shows !! It's pissing everyone off !!
Anyway OMW to cancel my Netflix subscriptions until heartstopper and young royals come back there's nothing else to watch on that shithole 🙄🙄
