I finished ASC: Sky last night and uhmmm whoa mama those cats can warriors. What I’m trying to say is this was hands down the single most enjoyable book published since the original series. Like don’t get me wrong the actual writing sucks ass but the plot is actually engaging for once. It’s predictable but still refreshing for warriors.

Ok y'all I have a confession.
...Tigerheart/star is my favorite living warrior cats character and I'm tired of pretending he isn't XD
He was a questionable boyfriend, but he's an excellent husband, father, and leader. He's far more like Firestar than Bramblestar ever was. He's proactive and is willing to break rules for what he believes is right. He gave up territory for SkyClan when no other Clan would. He willingly takes in and shelters cats who are unfairly banished from their own clans--Icewing, Harelight, Mothwing, and most recently Frostpaw (geez RiverClan). He will go to any lengths to protect ShadowClan and especially his children--but he seems truly motivated by love and not a desire for power. He takes amazing care of Shadowsight and stands by him constantly. Most recently, his "invasion" of RiverClan was shown to be 1) actually necessary, and 2) he did, in fact, keep his promise and back out when his conditions were met.
His decisions aren't always the *best,* but he's motivated and active (and delightfully meddlesome) in a way that no leader since Firestar has been. I LOVE that. I love him! Big stupid hot-headed well-meaning stripey man! Go invade RC again and kick Splashtail's, well, tail! <3
Also! ASC! You made ShadowClan the best clan how did that happen??? I'm so mad that Sunbeam is in ThunderClan now because I don't caaaaaaaare about TC lol I want more SC perspective.
So this is a lineup of my fav cats from the current arc: Whistlepaw (your honor I love her), Frostpaw (you're doing amazing girl, sorry about all the trauma), Icewing (hopefully next leader of RC come on WC team), Fringewhisker (full-time ass-kicker), Tigger boy <3, Shadowsight (my poor bby you're so good), Puddleshine (when did you get to be such a likeable character?), Bayshine (what a bro, seriously), and Harelight (we stan a supportive mentor, sorry about "Wind" buddy).
Honestly ASC is great so far. Can't wait for the finale. Also let the lesbian medicine cats kiss omg. I don't really bother shipping warrior cats because *gestures wildly* but nah, Whistlepaw and Frostpaw are the cutest lesbians and you can't tell me the "It was all worth it if it was for you" conversation in "Wind" WASN'T the most sapphic thing ever. Break ALL the boundaries girls be BOTH gay *and* nuns. We stan.

spoilers for a starless clan: wind here are my thoughts!
okay, PACING! it was GOOD! originally i thought it was a little slow up until the end, but now that i've thought about it some more i think its fine NEW KITS! YIPPEE! and THREE new prefixes! pretty awesome. i'm happy about that. though, i ABsoLUTELY hate that theres TWO greypaws. but, greypaw riverclan i assume will probably get his warrior names sooner rather than later so meh story wise, i liked it! especially frostpaws povs. sunbeams and nighthearts were both good, but frostpaws was best. i like everything that happened, and especially the tenser moments like during the storm & when frostpaw rescued leafkit. when was the last time we had a storm LOL?
okay, now onto the bulk of the story. splashtail! is. SO COOL! not in like a he's a good person was, but in a he's really interesting way. i loved all his scenes, and he really feels like a real villain. i also think podlight's dynamic with him is INCREDIBLY interesting, since he's curlfeathers brother. i wonder what'll come of that when splashtail is defeated (?) !!! excited!!! i also though the end of the book was IN.SANE!!!!!!!! berryheart found riverclan, JOINED, and then became deputy after harelight was killed! that's honestly crazy, and not what i was expecting AT ALL! also i love mothwing, duskfur and icewing. i'm really really excited to see what goes down with them. ALSO FROSTPAW AND WHISTLEPAW NUMBER ONE LESBIANS FOREVER!!! i was sort of on the fence on that ship only because my memory is too balls to properly remember the exact bits of their interactions together, but after some of the things frostpaw said to whistlepaw while whistlepaw was in the med den OOOHUUUHUHUHU i love them... overall, good book! not like, the most incredible thing i've ever read, i DO sort of wish MORE things happened, but it was still good !

I was reading the Wind excerpt and my god I feel awful for Frostpaw right now, after all the terrible shit she's gone through, she gets kicked out of her Clan, and NOBODY IN RC DEFENDS HER??? Not even her siblings??? Her mentor??? MOTHWING??? HELLO?!?!?
Very glad she's going to ShadowClan, I hope she ends up forming a bond with Shadowsight- he knows exactly what she's going through from his own experience :(
Tumblr media
putting these together cause they're the frostpaw ask duo (to me :) ) but MAN. i had initially read the excerpt before a class and wasn't really thinking much of it, but then i started thinking more about it and reading other people's thoughts and it's like. hang on a minute, that was kind of fucked up for her wasn't it.
like?? frostpaw has multiple cats who corroborate her story and then splashtail comes out of left field with "yes BUT i heard her mom whisper her eeevvuuull plans in her sleep so uuuhh checkmate?" AND RC BELIEVE THAT?? like i understand the intention of what they're trying to do with splashtail here, discrediting her publicly by painting her as emotional and delusional...but it's undermined by the fact they wrote an adult preying on a child's feelings for him and uh revealing this fact at a gathering then having no one batting an eye. what a writing choice. then they had the clan side with the adult.
i know the writing team does not pay attention to age gaps i know this but man i really wish they did before they wrote this! really fucking weird!
it was really sad seeing no one stick up for her in RC, genuinely hope that she doesn't return because man they suck. i would love if she chilled in shadowclan and became besties with shadowsight (please please please please <- going to be disappointed)

do you have anything extra planned for Sorreltail? I’m rereading TNP and I like the chapters with her and Leafpaw the most.. they’re so cute. Also lmao @ Leafpaw calling Mothwing beautiful in every chapter
Tumblr media
[ID: BB!Sorreltail. She's a big, spiky, fluffy white cat with chocolate brown accents and peanut-butter cream patches. Her eyes are bright yellow.]
just a little, a smidge really. I'm very normal about BB!Sorreltail.
Sorreltail is head of the Kitchen Patrol, she developed a love of it because no one would cook her grasshoppers.
Grasshoppers are her FAVORITE food, she loves chasing them, she loves their crunch, loves their funny long rabbit legs.
Not forgetting her lifelong friendship with Squilf and Leafpool, ABSOLUTELY not. Gal Pals <3
She gets along with most cats, unless they try to eat raw meat in camp, in which case she pummels a lecture about tapeworms into their head.
Sorreltail has epilepsy from her childhood nightshade poisoning! It gave her neurological damage; it expresses as absence seizures.
An absence seizure isn't convulsive like the 'classic' clonic-tonic; she suddenly 'spaces out', eyes rolling up, losing control of her body for a brief period of time. Usually about 5 seconds.
She is not conscious during a seizure, and it will interrupt her train of thought in the moment. She's able to go right back to whatever she was doing, but needs to be reminded of what she was talking about if she was mid-sentence.
She often has multiple, brief seizures in a day.
Some days are rough and she can have several dozen. Other days see none at all.
She had a seizure on the Thunderpath and was grazed by a car. Her assessment was delayed as a result.
Rainwhisker and Sootfur went ahead and got their names without her "LIKE A BUNCH OF JERKS"
Her treatment plan is valerian supplements; she likes this treatment because it helps prevent her from getting drowsy.
Valerian acts like catmint, making her giddy and more hyper. She really appreciates the stimulant because she's an active, outgoing gal.
She looks a LOT like her papa Whitestorm, her siblings look more like Willowpelt. (Graystripe, Darkstripe, Cricketclaw, and Featherkit are Dappletail's kids now; they have no relation to Willowpelt.)
The spiky fur and face mask are actually passed down from Thistleclaw himself, the wolf-tail is a Bluestar family trait from Snowfur.
The coloring was initially based on a grasshopper but then I realized it also kinda looks like ice cream.
ThunderClan cats tend to be large and fluffy, Sorreltail is a good example of it.
She's going to live a LOT longer, in fact, she's alive up to the current arc! However, she sadly lost her mate Brackenfur in Po3. She misses him every day. They had four kittens in one litter; Cinderheart, Honeyfern, Poppyfrost, and Molepaw.
Because Sorreltail is staying alive, Sorrelstripe is named Duststripe after Dustpelt instead. Lilypaw and Seedpaw are his and Ferncloud's. Ferncloud is also surviving.

Future Scene from Mothwing's Secrets
"So?" Hawkfrost's voice broke her out of her thoughts and Mothwing turned, setting the burdock down gently onto the wooden plate. "How's it going, new Medicine Cat Apprentice?"
"Amazing!" Mothwing beamed. "Oh Hawkfrost, I've never felt so... Free! Working with herbs and learning all these things feels so much better than warrior training did." She reached over to start bundling some moss together, her claws were extended but her paw was working gently to make sure the moss wouldn't tear.
Hawkfrost sat down, purring softly and puffing out his chest. His large forepaws were digging into the soft earth of the den in excitement. "I knew you'd love it." He remarked. "All thanks yours truly. You're welcome, Moth."
Mothwing stopped. Her paws now resting on the half-formed ball of moss. "W... What do you mean?" She looked into his icy blue eyes, full of pride.
"Well, it was obvious Mudfur wasn't going to take you on without a sign." He explained, chucking to himself. "So I just..." He pinched two toes together. "Boop! Popped a moth wing clean off a nice moth and placed it near the den!" He pulled his paw back, as if reenacting what he had done with childish glee.
"You what?"
Hawkfrost tilted his head and Mothwing felt as if the ground had flooded under her feet, a deep chill spreading through her bones. "What? I was helping you. It was already dead-"
"You faked the sign?"
Hawkfrost stared at her as if she'd asked him to fly. "Well... Yeah. 'Starclan' wasn't going to, so I had to take matters on myself."
Her jaw hung open in shock. All of that special connection to Starclan... Was it a lie? Was it just pretty dreams after all? If any cat could fake a sign, then... "Why?" She asked, a lump rising in her throat. "Why would you do that!?"
Hawkfrost glared at her, his eyes like chips of hard ice. "In case you haven't noticed, Moth, we're not like the others."
"What do you mean by that?" Mothwing snarled, her fur beginning to bristle. This couldn't be true, she was wanted by Starclan... Wasn't she? The golden tabby molly hissed at her brother. "What does that have to do with a fake Omen, Hawkfrost?"
"Look at us, Moth!" Hawkfrost jumped to his feet, a desperate growl in his throat. "Because do you know what they see when THEY look at us?! Starclan is NEVER going to approve of us! We are the children of Tigerstar and an ex-kittypet!"
Horror filled her gut and Mothwing took a step back, both siblings tabby stripes reflecting in the water pool the Medicine Den housed. "I thought you loved our mom." She murmured. "I thought you were proud."
"I do and I am!" Said Hawkfrost, his meow getting hoarse but louder. "I love mom! I love her so, so much... But that doesn't change the FACT THAT WE...!" He trailed off, swallowing harshly and panting slightly.
About to burst with rage, Mothwing stepped forward, her claws shredding the moss she'd had into tiny, unusable scraps. "Go on. Finish that sentence. I dare you."
Her brother's quiet mew sounded as he looked down at the scratched earth. "It's not our fault." He murmured. "But... It still can't be helped. I can't change where we came from... I can't make Starclan speak, but I can still help you."
Mothwing swallowed, and hissed softly. 'You really wanna talk about Starclan's approval? What a joke. You've already proven that any cat can make an omen if they're clever enough.' She glared at her brother, and hissed again, louder.
"Do me a favour, Hawkfrost. Don't ever 'help' me again. Better yet, just leave me alone."
Her brother reeled back, his gaze full of hurt that quickly turned to anger. "Fine. Mothwing." He spat her name as if it tasted foul on his tongue. "I sincerely hope you enjoy your new position."
He turned, padding out of the Medicine Den with his pelt bristling, his dark tabby fur turning blood-red in the light of the sunset, not even bothering to look over his shoulder to growl at her.
"You earned it.”

Now that brambleclaw and squirrelflight aren't mates, how would Alderheart and Sparkpelt being born? Most AUs (not saying those aus are bad) just have Bramblestar as a nothing character either as a villain with no personality or forgettable, with the personlity of wheat bread "man wife"
A lot of Bramnleclaw's character in/is about Squirrelflight and their love triangle with Ashfur. I can't really see (again no offense to you. Just airing my thoughts) as him being nothing character, if he isn't her mate than how would TBC happen or would that series never happen because Ashfur or Brambleclaw aren't mates with Squirrelflight. How would plotpointd such as his relationship with firestar would become? It would be jus them as adoptive siblings?
beware, this shit is long! soooo much more under the cut.
i’ve been thinking about this! basically, squilf would replace leafpool in the forbidden romance plot with crowfeather. during tpb, all of squilf’s romance will be with crowfeather. we get his pov during the journey, where he will be close with feathertail but crushing on squirrelpaw. we get squilf’s pov when they get home, where we can hear her internal debates over her feelings about crowpaw and missing him. she is attached to brambleshade (brambleclaw), but in a sibling way. in my head, firestar is a pseudo-dad to bramble, so a sibling dynamic makes sense. however, this isn’t reciprocated the same way. bramble grows to be in love with squirrelflight.
in twilight, squirrel and crow debate leaving, but decide against it and amicably agree to split. at the same time, leafpool is having the same issue with mothwing — mothwing cares little about the warrior code, and would much rather leave the clans and live their lives in peace, with a bonus of the fact that hawkfrost would never follow her and she’d be free of him. they run away, but come back just in time, like the leafcrow romance in canon.
as a note, because tc doesn’t share borders with rc, they had no idea it was mothwing that leafpool ran away with.
afterward, in sunset, squirrelflight grows closer to bramble and ashfur is scorned, much like in canon. she realizes he assumes she’s in love with bramble, and she lets this happen to dissuade him from trying to “win” her back. she feels safe doing this, because she assumes her sibling feelings towards bramble are the same from his side.
(note: squilf did date ashfur while she was arguing with bramble, but at first it was just friendship. she thought he’d make a great mate, and she could forget about crowfeather and maybe even have kits. but as he grows more controlling, she breaks up with him. soon after, she reconciles with bramble and ashfur takes this as badly as possible.)
after the whole saving her dad thing, squirrelflight is delighted. (side note again: bramble does become deputy, because longtail retires early. longstar would be too good of a leader, we need a shit one, for plot reasons.) bramble is delighted, because he thinks this means she loves him “again”. leafpool had no idea about the crowfeather thing, and tells squilf about the dream starclan sent of squilf and bramble walking side by side. squilf takes this to mean starclan wants her and bramble as mates (they absolutely do, the meddling weirdos), but with the way she feels about him? she isn’t fond of the idea. however, at the book’s end, leafpool tells her she’s pregnant. squilf knows exactly who’s they are — and she is both petrified and delighted. it’s complicated situation, she’s so overjoyed to have her love’s kits, but he will never know them and the clan will be suspicious. everyone knows she was courting ashfur but spends all her time with bramble now, so they’ll assume it’s one of theirs. so will the two cats in question. if she refuses to say who, it’ll be very obvious their father is not thunderclan. she tells this much to leafpool, who advises her to follow starclan’s wish and become bramble’s mate, for real. squilf tries to convince herself this will be okay, because it’s what starclan wants.
later, leafpool tells her she’s carrying mothwing’s kits, and they (TOGETHER) devise the plan to have squilf raise them, which will be easy because she’ll actually have milk here. bramble is over the moon at the news of kits, and squilf is dying inside. it’d be a depressing inner monologue, her trying to convince herself she can be happy like this.
leafpool fakes a starclan vision, saying squirrelflight must visit the moonpool immediately, for plot reasons. squilf gives birth up there, and crow stumbles upon them. there’s a unique herb growing in the cave that he was sent to retrieve for his “mate” (they’ve come to an agreement: crow takes night as his mate to look loyal, and the kits she has won’t appear as if they were fathered by a rogue, like they actually were), nightcloud, who’s about to give birth. he sees squilf’s kits, they get emotional and sappy. there’s two kits, unnamed. together, they name them hollykit and breezekit, and crow takes breezekit (the one out of rhe two without red on him) back to wc to be raised by nightcloud with her kits. he’ll blend right in with the litter.
a few hours later, leafpool gives birth to jaykit, lionkit (still haven’t decided his name change), and dovekit. after another day, a tc patrol comes to get them, wondering what took them so long, surprised to find squirrelflight’s four kits! they carry ‘em home, and squilf settles in the nursery, fussed over by brambleshade. about a week later, dovekit dies, and squilf is heartbroken. she grows listless and finds it hard to take care of her remaining kits, but later recovers and is a great mom.
power of three goes pretty close to canon, major plot wise. hollyleaf is not a member of the three, but it makes SENSE bc she wasn’t actuallt part of the three’s litter. dovekit was, who was later reincarnated into whitewing’s kit, dovekit, in order for the prophecy to be fulfilled. for the fire scene, it goes the same mostly, squilf claiming they aren’t her kits, ashfur says idc you love them anyway. i think i may have firestar save them from ashfur here, losing his final life. after the fire, squilf admits that hollyleaf is her kit, but the other two aren’t. hollyleaf pries the whole story out of leafpool, and goes STRAIGHT to brambleshade, before he goes to receive his nine lives. he thanks her for telling him, and he is heartbroken (because, apparently, his wife never loved him.) and furious. none of his kits were his, some of them were even leafpool’s! after he’s made bramblestar, he appoints hollyleaf as his deputy, citing that she’s the only one he can trust. things go to shit, sol, hollyleaf snaps and kills ashfur, hollyleaf tells the clans everything, including the prophecy, etc etc. hollyleaf dies, killed by the falling rocks in the tunnels. her role in the great battle stays the same, as does firestar’s, bc their ghosts can still kick ass.
after this, during omen of the stars, we see bramble actively punishing squirrelflight. everything is shit. i don’t know who i’ll have him pick as deputy, but they’ll die during the flood of bramblestar’s storm. jessy happens, etc etc, squilf and him make up. she apologizes, and he apologizes, but he kinda makes it about him, hmmm….
anyway, spark and alder are bramblesquirrel kits still. i haven’t thought about major plot for avos yet, i’ve barely thought about pot and oots. but, squilf is made deputy, and the broken code is a thing. bramblestar is freed of rhe possession, but there will be a scene where squirrelcrow have a Moment and bramblestar loses his shit. he accuses her of betraying him, of being cruel and evil, yada yada. brambleshade is a little weird, maybe kinda vindictive, but bramblestar is out of his mind. the sheer amount of power he has and his desire to use it against her is dangerous. he is very clearly an evil person, despite the sympathies he has. anyway, bramblestar tries to exile her, but spark stops him. she, and the clan, are OVER bramblestar, who was just as bad a leader as the imposter. he is stripped of his name and lives via rhe new warrior code rule, and the clan watches in horror as he loses all but his last life in real time. he’s moved to the medicine den. meanwhile, squilf becomes a star, and appoints ivyclaw (ivypool) her deputy. she gives brambleshade the option of leaving the clan or retiring, and he hobbles his old ass to the elder’s den.
after all this, crowfeather decides to join thunderclan, and squirrelstar happily accepts him, daring anyone to argue. they get their happily ever after, and it’s very sweet. maybe breeze even comes with his dad, tired of his clan’s scorn? regardless, it’s a very awkward time for nightheart watching his grandad spit obscenities at his step-grandad. wild.
pls tell me if this is incoherent ive never written my ideas out for the squirrelcrow bramblesquirrel plot before !!!

I have mixed feelings on the Nightheart return. Generally positive but still mixed.
I really do not like the implication that this is the tipping point for Sunbeam to get radicalized by Berryheart... on one hand, she's now more open minded to her from being upset and that is understandable
On the other hand im not really liking how it's setting up Sunbeam, Scorned Woman, to have a villain arc
That sure is a writing choice, to have 3 protags related to legacy with strong influences (mothwing to tigerstar having just lost her apprentice thanks to StarClan's lack of help, Needletail, Firestar) and choose a broken romance to be what radicalizes Sunbeam
I also am just... generally not fond of Nightheart coming back yet. I don't think he HAS learned his lessons.
He did NOT have chapters and scenes examining his rashness. We didn't delve into his problems with authority. He never had a reckoning with how he was the biggest problem in his own relationships.
ThunderClan was NOT judging him for being related to Firestar. He was snapping every time they mentioned his name in his presence even when they were trying to soothe HIM about his insecurities
He didn't learn anything about wrecklessness or putting his life in danger, his major character flaw
I really did enjoy myself reading his Task Chapters, they were fun and creative! But they didn't show a progression of his character.
He just kinda went to ShadowClan and got better.
And on the positive hand...
I was hoping for this exact moment;
Tumblr media
And I got it, which is incredibly rare for this series.
They loved him the whole time and he's finally realizing it. Thank god
I really love the way Squilf invited him back in. Stern but still caring. I adore her.
Bramblestar stepping down is IDEAL. Get OUT.
The memory of Pinestar is excellent. Thank god the cats are remembering things

okay I broke and read Sky in a day here are my general thoughts
Frostpaw my baby you really are The Only (tm) A Starless Clan protagonist... she's the only one I don't have any particular negative feelings towards and I'm genuinely interested in her storyline, also I love seeing how much it's highlighted that Mothwing is incredibly capable and responsible, like we all knew she was but, makes me happy that some attention seems to be brought to it :)
like man I know she would want to stay a med cat and she DESERVES WHAT SHE WANTS but tbh? I feel she'd make a good leader.... Mothstar
and I think that's all I really have to say that's good
god I hate Nightheart now, like my original interpretation of him in River that he might be good and was relatable was based upon the fact that he seemed a lot more genuinely insecure like thinking he has capabilities but fucking up because of an (irrational) focus on lineage and overthinking shit, and the thing he felt he deserved was more his own identity, which is fair, and I thought they might take a more complex route exploring that BUT NO, like, I feel like the things that get passed around the most that garner hate for him are probably just more shocking and yea could probably be explained away but it doesn't matter cause the biggest problem with him is instead of having like plausibly having a fight with self doubt and stuff like I viewed him in River he's constantly like "well I deserve RESPECT for HOW GREAT I AM and just no one can see that" like dude, shut up where are you getting the idea that you're so great, and I just, completely rescind all my previous opinions on him, even though my inital expectations of his character would've been better for a protagonist that wouldn't have made want to throw my phone at the wall while I read the book. Which I think was why I was much more inclined to interpret him that way initally but like, to anyone still attached to him there is no question at this point this isn't just a case of a young adult having an angst session this is a character thinking he deserves things that he hasn't earned like especially in the case of his warrior duties he has proven he doesn't deserve respect in that regard, outright blames Squirrelflight repeatedly, like it comes down to his self righteousness instead of self questioning you know? that's the thing that is the crux of his shittiness as a person and I understand wanting to cling to an inital interpretation of him being more complex but his ridiculously prominent self righteousness just kills any reasonable interpretation that requires anything but a complete overhaul of his personality. like, I like Crowfeather, I don't like or accept everything he does in canon but there's enough that is not stated to us and enough depth behind the intention of his character that allows some different interpretations of him as someone who can and does eventually choose change without entirely breaking from the story given to us, but god... NIGHTHEART IS NOT IN THAT BOAT
Sunbeam is... okay as a character I guess? I wasn't fond of how she treated Lightleap though I still guess it's an understandable temporary emotion, her taste in toms makes me a lil more hesitant to give her as much slack on that as I might otherwise, but her interactions with her mother Berryheart are interesting, though that is really the only interesting thing in this arc besides what's going on in RiverClan
these books still make me angry, but I do want to see what happens to RiverClan myself, though I can't quite theorize what exactly is going on yet. Berryheart and Sunbeam's conflict is interesting as well, I honestly can't give a shit about anything else like I have so little to say on the plot because I honestly feel like this book didn't really... feel like it added much more to the story
hey! I've got a good idea! only Frostpaw and... I guess Sunbeam (for her interactions w/ her mother) get a POV in the books after this one, Frostpaw gets more chapters though so we can focus on the only plot thread that is significantly interesting
I know it's not gonna happen but it'd make the rest of this arc so much more fucking bearable

"LOVE" as seen in A Starless Clan
I wrote most of this while reading Shadow, but my feelings on the matter still haven’t changed, now having finished the book.
I don’t like how Warriors handles most of their romantic relationships, and maybe it’s just my demiromantic brain taking the reigns here, but even still, Warriors has a problem.
Read on! A semi-coherent ranting below. Spoilers for book 3 Shadow of A Starless Clan!
---
Tumblr media
FROSTPAW is not in love with Splashtail
She has a crush built on her own infatuation and inaccurate expectations of love, and that’s understandable as she’s young and literally has no parents left to teach and guide her. The last thing anyone should expect from their own trusted clanmates is manipulation. Before it was revealed that Splashtail had ulterior motives for getting involved with Frostpaw, I was really nervous that they would actually become mates. There is nothing of real substance between them. But now we know that Splashtail is in fact using her affections to manipulate her in his favor. With the amount of gaslighting that he uses on Frostpaw and how she’s so annoyed by him second-guessing her decisions, I’m surprised she still has a crush on him. It’s really sad to see someone inexperienced in life be manipulated by an older, trusted individual, especially when “love” is involved.  From our perspective as well as Frostpaw's, Splashtail is never supportive with what she wants, and he’s never once shown signs of what actual love looks like. Like...putting the other person first...considering their feelings...supporting their dreams...taking an interest in them as a person...and the list goes on. Very concerning and predatory, and I hope Mothwing gets to beat the living shit out of Splashtail when everything is revealed in the end. Or better yet, have Frostpaw do it now that she has warrior training. Imagine Frostpaw pummeling him, eyes flooded with tears, grey fur stained red, and her body quaking with pain and fury. “I THOUGHT YOU LOVED ME! YOU USED ME! MY…MY MOTHER DIED BECAUSE OF YOU!”
If Frostpaw doesn't get her moment, ima be upset.
Tumblr media
NIGHTHEART is not in love with Sunbeam
He may find Sunbeam attractive and enjoys her company and attention, but that is the extent of his feelings, and he’s lying to himself when he says otherwise.
Nightheart busting into ShadowClan and proclaiming to everyone that he and Sunbeam are IN LOVE was absolutely embarrassing. I’m surprised no one really questioned him up front, or asked Sunbeam directly if she wanted Nightheart in ShadowClan or not. He “loves” Sunbeam because she’s giving him the validation he’s never gotten from loved ones, and Sunbeam just so happens to be a she-cat he can be mates with. Let’s be honest: if Sunbeam was a tom, Nightheart would have been less inclined to leave ThunderClan for ShadowClan… (actually…that would’ve been cool to see! Can’t cats switch clans for friendships, too, as they do for mates?)
Nightheart’s situation kind of feels like a patient falling for their therapist because they feel listened to and accepted and then blur the lines between "love" and "in love". I believe that he believes he loves Sunbeam, but they still have no foundation past, “Oh, you agree with me? Wow, I feel special. Let’s get together.” I also wanna mention that Nightheart JUST became a warrior. HE’S YOUNG. He’s barely been a warrior, and now he already wants to take a mate? Maybe it’s just cat hormones at work, but calm down man.
If we had gotten to see Nightheart realize that he actually didn’t romantically love Sunbeam and was just projecting, THAT WOULD HAVE BEEN AMAZING! Tragic but awesome for the plot and his character progression.  I thought that's what the plot was being set up for, because we see Nightheart ignore Sunbeam whenever it suits him, worry her, question her, and never ask what SHE FEELS about him. It’s all about Nightheart.
Nightheart should have faced consequences for the hurt he’s dealt. Show Sunbeam resenting him instead of going after him. And show Squirrelflight rejecting his request to rejoin ThunderClan instead of just accepting him back like he didn’t abandon and embarrass them. I actually think a rogue Nightheart arc would have been interesting! Make him learn about being an adult, that not everything revolves around him, and that other people have emotions too. Show that his initial problems weren’t as big as he thought they were and have things put into perspective. Imagine he befriends like this old rugged stray who's seen some shit, and they just put Nightheart in his place at some point and tell him to grow up and make amends with his family cause life’s too short, and cats die before we’re ready for them too.
Have Nightheart return to the clans after experiencing some real-life shit somewhere, more mature and changed on a much deeper level.
Tumblr media
SUNBEAM is not in love with Nightheart.
And it’s painful to read her inner dialogue about him, trying to manifest romantic feelings when they’re nonexistent. She wants to be in love with him, but she wasn't for most of the book. If anything, I’m given the impression that Sunbeam felt as though Nightheart was indebted to her love because he’s already made sacrifices for her in their relationship. And he did, which only puts Sunbeam in a worse situation.
Imagine you just met someone that you’re kinda into, but it’s new. Now imagine that person selling their house, all their possessions, basically disowning their own family, and then suddenly showing up at YOUR HOUSE, in front of YOUR FAMILY, and just being like, “I’m here now because I love you. And you love me too, right?”
That’s messed up.  Is that love in the air? No, it’s emotional manipulation.
Sunbeam likes his personality, his demeanor, finds him handsome, and the two can relate to each other on some level. But there’s no real love behavior between them, previous or current. Nightheart is self-serving and thoughtless. I’m pleased Sunbeam made the point to say that Nightheart needs to want to be in ShadowClan for himself and not just for Sunbeam because he’s not loyal to ShadowClan. He just wants Sunbeam. And if I were Tigerstar, I’d be very hesitant to let him come into my clan on his current pretenses. What happens if Sunbeam doesn’t love him back, or they break up? If Nightheart loses that support and validation from Sunbeam, will he whine and cry, and run away from ShadowClan because he’s “not understood?”
Sunbeam deserves better.
My thoughts after reading Shadow
I hate…I HATE how everything went down between Sunbeam and Nightheart. I was so excited when Nightheart realized he wanted to be in ThunderClan, and wanted to make amends with his kin and leave ShadowClan.
And I love that Sunbeam felt deeply hurt and betrayed by him because she had every right to be. He used her to escape from his own problems, put so much pressure on her, and then when she finally grew romantic feelings for him, he dumped her.
We could’ve seen Sunbeam have an arc of being bitter and angry, and aligning with her mother’s ambitions because of her resentment.  BUT INSTEAD. SHE FOLLOWS HIM TO THUNDERCLAN.
“There’s no other tom for me in ShadowClan.”
GIRL. There are toms who will treat you right. Maybe not in ShadowClan, but they exist. Don’t chase the boy that broke your heart!
Idk man... This feels like a missed opportunity for some actual good drama between two main characters that could have gone somewhere tragic. I imagine some ObsessedSunbeam!AU could easily be made here, especially after her having that dream that another she-cat put the moves on her man and she was PISSED. I doubt we’ll see a love-crazed Sunbeam in canon, but it’s a fun concept.
sigh.
I guess Nightheart will just get off scot-free, messing with Sunbeam’s emotions and putting ThunderClan through so much unnecessary shit.
I’m still curious to see where everything will go in the upcoming books. Maybe there’s still room for something real to happen between Sunbeam and Nightheart…
But really, im much more invested in what's goin on with the frost baby,, ;-;

Ok, again, I liked Shadow and I should probably do my bullet point thoughts on the whole book before this but
literally what are they doing with Mothwing?
After River, I thought “ooh hoo hoo! Wouldn’t it be delicious if Mothwing became leader?” but it was mostly for fun (especially since I don’t love having another old leader, especially after Mistystar, and now especially if Squirrelflight hopefully survives to be made leader). But then after Sky it looked more like they were actually going for it with the “choose an unlikely cat” thing
But now in Shadow...Mothwing is a background cat, even more background than other formerly background characters? Despite being, by about halfway through the book, the only cat in RiverClan with any actual authority that doesn’t come from Tigerstar?? And she says and does almost nothing. She barely even does any healer work, off screen apparently suggests not even going to the Moonpool meetings anymore, she doesn’t even really fight with Frostpaw - she’s just kind of terse with her, she’s right about telling Tigerstar the truth causing problems, she snarks about Jayfeather, and attends Gatherings but says very little, despite essentially speaking for RiverClan in the two previous books. Otherwise it seems like she went from an incredibly chaotic experience having everyone in the clan look to her...to somehow having a lot of free time, and very little to say, despite losing her apprentice.
And I love getting to see more interpersonal drama in RiverClan and seeing Icewing and Harelight get more character development and the reveal of Splashtail’s machinations, but it’s bizarre how much should bring to mind Mothwing for the characters but instead she fades to the back and I genuinely don’t know if this is on purpose or not.
like
a ton of this book contrasts Tigerstar’s misguided leadership and Bramblestar’s decline
multiple characters bring up Tigerstar I and directly callout Tigerheartstar for also taking over RiverClan
multiple characters also talk about Bramblestar’s legacy, in addition to Firestar apparently always being on everyone’s mind
both of these characters are put in positions where they are trying to regain their sense of power/control, and are challenged on if they are doing the right thing
the book ends with the tension of one Tigerstar descendant deciding to do the right thing and willingly give up power, while the writing on the wall is that another will soon be fighting to keep his
HOW IS THIS ALL NOT SUPPOSED TO MAKE ME THINK OF MOTHWING, WHO HAS RECENTLY SHIRKED OFFERS OF POWER IN RIVERCLAN, AND WHO IS ALSO A CHILD OF TIGERSTAR
like it could be so good
her brother tried to take over two Clans essentially in the hope of getting one scrap more of power
but she is so dedicated to service to her Clan that she won’t risk anything that could possibly cause them harm, which she thinks includes her leadership
with so many cats constantly being like, “you’re just like tigerstar the first, taking over RiverClan, aren’t you worried about being compared to your evil kin”
why is iT NEVER MENTIONED THAT MOTHWING AND TIGERSTAR II ARE KIN ANY TIME HE’s IN RIVERCLAN?? Does she not have any #thoughts or feelings to share???
we have juicy callouts for Icewing and Harelight spending a lot of time in ShadowClan, but suddenly, mysteriously absent in this book, is anyone casting doubt on Mothwing for also spending that time there and oh yeah, also being related to both Tigerstars who have taken over RiverClan?
it would be such an amazing arc for her to lead the Clan her kin could never
to begrudgingly assume power, but then fucking kill it in a way not even Bramblestar or Tawnypelt could
like Splashtail is talking about faking a sign to appoint a malleable medicine cat
that is literally what happened to Mothwing am I not supposed to immediately think about her. why is she then barely a character in this book. why are they deliberately paralleling another Tigerkin’s attempt at taking over RiverClan
also Mothwing should be the one cat Frostpaw confidently knows did not kill Reedwhisker and was not involved in any plot. Like both Frostpaw and the reader should trust Mothwing and no one else in RiverClan at the moment lol so she should be more of an actual character goddamnit
if nothing else, shouldn’t RiverClan/Mothwing be deeply concerned now about the lack of Medicine Cat apprentices? I know they have a lot going on, but that just proves how much they need a med cat. Mothwing ain’t getting any younger (unless she gets 9 lives), there are no kits in the nursery, and Leafbare is around the corner. And also something terrible keeps happening to RiverClan leadership lol Mothwing should have a lot to say and do in the main plot, and she just doesn’t for some reason this book

While thinking about anthro and deep southern Mothwing I had the idea of a anthro timeline like warrior cats so here it is lol
Sasha is new in town and raised highly Christian (in the serve your husband and don’t speak out kind of way it really fucked her up) so when she meets a seemingly kind man who goes by the name of Tiger she kinda immediately falls in love. She grew up on those fantasy fall in love at first sight and always wanting that. And now getting the littlest kindness from a stranger, it was like it was meant to be in her mind.
She follows him everywhere slowly becoming more trapped in his life. Even willing to join his own group. But just as she’s about to pledge her faith to them she learns of his true nature and what their cult really is. With the help of Ray (Russetfur) she escapes. But she’s already been pregnant and now just a few months off giving birth. She ends up having Sienna (Moth), Sycamore (Hawk) and Simon (Tadpole) by herself and barley survives being unable to do anything for a long time. While very young her kits try to help her out by getting some food by themselves, attempting to hook something off that old bridge nearby. But while trying to throw the first line Simon slipped and fell in, Sycamore dived in after and Sienna swam in just behind him. All three had to be saved by a person nearby who noticed the frantic splashing but sadly Simon had swallowed too much water and drowned.
Both Sienna and Sycamore were very sick but even more so depressed. Sienna plagued by survivors guilt and Sycamore by misdirected anger at how hard their life was. Not being able to deal with it Sasha gave them up to lady who saved them, a strong woman named Lakelyn (Leopardstar) or Lake as the kids called her.
They grew up in that same cult their mother had run from. Sycamore falling into the same violent side as their father had and Sienna begging to escape the cycle. She made friends with many. Especially kind Lily (Leafpool) and her sister Sally (Squilf). Until that day at the lake. Just like before she was too late, as she walked along the once beautiful beach she saw her final brother there dead, a spike through his throat. Dying as he drowned on his own blood. She had so much she was supposed to be more powerful and yet everyone still died. Over and over again.
While clerics weren’t usually allowed to wear any weapons or shield their head she did both. Keeping her brother’s knife at her hip and their bandannas over her head. If the stars above wanted so badly to drown her like they did everyone else then she wasn’t going to make it easy. She wasn’t going to blindly follow their word or even let them see her. She was done with them.
Besides the actual story of it in this the different clans are different small towns separated by their natural terrain. Riverclan is based on more marshy wetlands and called River Roots, Thunderclan is a sunny forest called Thunder Oaks, Shadowclan is a dark pine forest called Shaded Pines, and Windclan is a big open field called Windy Grasses.
Clerics are more so priests who dedicate their whole life to caring and understanding the stars. Or kinda like nuns. They aren’t to fight or draw blood so keeping a knife let alone Sycamores knife is a huge deal. Even more so that she shields her head from the stars. She also knows he was murdered obviously and HATES Bruce (Bramble) bc she knows he killed her brother.
Her and Lily are secret lesbians I decree it. Only visiting on new moons so to be out of the stars gaze. Sienna also helps Lily not only hide her pregnancy but also give birth taking the spot of Yellowfang in Leafpool’s Wish. The three would be named Raury (Lionblaze), Jay, and Brandy (Hollyleaf). Brandy and Bailey (Breezepelt) are also much closer in this I just think they should be.

Will StarClan be changed in anyway? Also did any other books go differently? Such as Leopardstar's honor or the Forbidded Spottedleaf's Heart?; or did even some cats change besides the ones you already have mentioned? Is not everyone related to Firestar. (Also your art is amzing, I loaf in so much). Ahhh more questions? Will names be changed; IF Twigbranch is made a warrior in any of the Clans will her name be changed or stay the same. Twigbranch is one of my faves so...
I just want to say how much I’ve missed writing for you guys, answering questions, and just fleshing out the Warriors world. What an amazing fandom it is, and I just appreciate everyone who interacts with and supports me so sincerely much. Thank you! <3
StarClan change - there’s a higher power above StarClan, like one single all knowing being. StarClan is just a bunch of dead cats and they interact with the living here and there as needed to pass on the higher power’s foreseeable word. This higher being, known as Chi (a very large chimera cat) is concerned though as the barrier between living and dead is wavering. These cats are leaving physical marks and can harm the living, something Chi doesn’t want. This is the catalyst for Power of Twelve, Chi granting powers to the mortal 12 in hopes they can find the way to sever the connection and push both StarClan and The Dark Forest away.
This is very hard for the 12 to learn as time goes on. They realize what they must do, but they’re all young and have grown up with StarClan being the brightest of lights and the most trustworthy. However, upon having their faith shaken and realizing not all of StarClan is alright with what they’re attempting to do, the 12 understand light and darkness are two sides that must exist in equal parts. To dispel the Dark Forest, they must also dispel StarClan.
Books that went Differently - Spottedleaf’s Heart was extensively changed. Thistleclaw doesn’t even attempt a relationship, he just tries to manipulate her to give him favor with Sunstar so that he might become deputy and then leader. It’s kinda like a Hawkfrost/Mothwing situation where ambitious warrior bullies medicine cat to fake signs and get what they want.
As for Leopardstar’s Honor, I’d remove her having romantically loved Frogleap and Tigerstar. Idk, she always read as ace/aro if anything - just very much thinking about RiverClan and making them the best. It just feels very unnecessary for her story, especially when I find it far more compelling the way she adopts Whiteclaw and tends to him after the death of his parents. Her being this single mother who cares for him like her father and the clan did for her I think is far more poetic than her little romantic bursts, but that’s just me.
Finally I think I would’ve either made it clearer her disdain for half-clan cats that she’d kill some of her closest friends, OR lean into it being the ThunderClan problem because Leopardstar was endlessly bothered by ThunderClan. I mean losing her best friend, losing Whiteclaw, Oakheart, Sunningrocks quarrels, Silverstream, and then Tigerstar whispering in her ear and the usurping, and now she learns about two of her close friends Mistyfoot and Stonefur?? Like pick a narrative and I guess sell that a bit more because it feels like there’s something there and they have the pieces but they’re not really tying it into that bow that I’d personally like to see.
I guess those are more writing critiques than event changes, but geez I’d also sell Leopardstar’s actual honor and redeem her better than whatever book did. Oh yeah, what if they acknowledged her diabetes?
Name changes do happen! Sparkpelt is now Sparkfire and Twigbranch is now Twigshade. I chose Twigshade so then she matches with her sister Violetshine.

First of all I’m always thinking about different ways leafpool could leave the clans because if there’s one thing I love it’s leafpool and if there’s one thing I hate it’s clan culture as written in canon.
Most of the time I imagine her becoming more and more miserable while expecting, just the amount of suspicion and hostility she’s subject to + the whole “Starclan berating her for the thing they made her do” leading to her running away from the clans for a second time- I go back and forth on who if anyone might go with her but I’m partial to Mothwing because holy shit Mothwing has to do so much to prove herself just to be allowed the privilege of a serving a clan that would turn on her in an instant if they knew her secret, it makes sense that she’d also consider leaving the clans for good even if both would have a lot of complicated feelings over it - I also think about squilf going with her after considering the idea of raising the three as her own and realising that the amount of fear she has around brambleclaw is,, bad.
second idea is simpler, Leafpool just,, gets an abortion (herbal remedies can be really unsafe but come on it’s warrior cat) and Starclan is fucking scrambling to figure out what to do now that their favourite toy has ruined fate, the three end up being completely different cats more distantly related to Firestar OR things go in a completely different direction now that the prophecy is broken
another thing I think about is leafpool having the kittens in thunderclan, maybe they come early and she’s taken by surprise, and I think it’d be interesting to see how being raised in this environment where they’re very susceptible to discrimination and watch their mother be mistreated by some of her clanmates (and also kittypet xenophobia would be involved, ie “this is what happens when you let a kittypet lead a clan” type arguments). I just like the idea of Jay, Holly, and Lion developing very different ideas of the clans and having to contend with the way they can be harmful, and I’ve got like one million ideas for how to do so
lightning round: leafpool joins windclan instead of her and Crowfeather running away but it’s very quickly apparent that they’re not in love and Crowfeather is almost repulsed by her when she’s a real person and not an idealised love interest (this one has nightleaf in it, somehow), leafpool goes to live with a kittypet and nothing bad happens ever so there’s no story, squilf raises leafpool’s kits but Brambleclaw knows and is shitty about it, any scenario where leafpool is a loner alongside a character who doesn’t get enough screentime and becomes disillusioned with the clans
(all of these are bad I’m sorry)
these aer NOT bad these are all incredibly fun, i love the idea of her just hitting da bricks in the first one. if it sucks, why stay!! run away with your gf if the vibes are rancid. i'm a softie for Leafpool running away.
you're so right leafpool would invent cat abortions. most pro-choice cat to ever exist.
i'd love to see you expand on some of these!! they really aren't bad, a lot of them seem super fun and ripe with juicy gossip (that brambleclaw knows one...little tweaks like that that radically change the story are super fun).
