Hi, I came across your blog while I was checking out fics with the Kazutora tag, and I read a few of your works, and LOVED them! I'm still new to TR, but so far from what I've seen of Kazutora, you really capture him well!

I was wondering if you'd be open to writing something along the lines of Kazutora having a date over for a movie, but he seems like he's trying to keep distance between himself and said date, even to the point that he's left space between them so their legs won't touch. But his date has known him for years, even before he was locked away for 10 years, and really wants tk be close to him, so they scoot closer and lean their head against his shoulder, resting one of their hands on his arm. I'd love to know how you think he would react! I'd be fine with this being either a headcanon or a one-shot, honestly! It's just been on my mind since Tora brainrot settled I'm. 😅 I also wonder how his past self would have reacted, but whether that is written too or not is totally up to you if you do decide to take on this request, since I know he was like...15 during the 2005 timeline.

2005-2007 timeline:

“Was juvie harsh?” you ask, the movie almost sounding mute as kazutora looked over at you with wide eyes.

“.. How so?” he counters

“Well, I don’t know. You seem more.. distant.” your eyes wander back to the tv, momentarily taking in the scene before turning back to kazutora to speak once again.

“It’s because I am. Something horrible happened, you can’t just forget things like murder, y/n.” he says a matter of fact, not even sugar coating the unspeakable acts he had committed, regardless of whether he wanted to admit he did or to blame it on someone else again.

A small laugh slipped past your lips as you scooted across the couch and rested your head on his shoulder, taking him by surprise as he peered down at you between his golden locks.

“True, but in some ways, you have become a better man.” you say as your hands rests near his, looking over the many scars scattered along his hands and wrists like ornaments.

“You really think so?” he asks after a while, hesitantly taking your hand into his for the first time in ages.

“Yeah.” you say with a small smile.

2017 (i think) timeline:

The tv’s light flickered in the dark as an awkward kissing scene came on again, making both you y’all cringe and to look other places. Your eyes landed on Kazutora’s slim figure, frowning at the large gap in between you and him.

“How was work?” you ask, trying to pull anything for a small talk as he turned to face you with his golden yet curious eyes.

“Fine, busy.” he replies, his response matching perfectly with the tired eyebags hugging the bottom of his eyes and his slightly slumped-over figure.

Your head tilted sideways slightly as you studied his face. You shruged to yourself before moving over towards him, catching his attention as now he was cornered with you extremely close.

“I don’t have an illness Kazu, loosen up.” you joke, a small laugh escaping your lips as he averted his eyes elsewhere in the room.

“Still hung up on the past, I see.” you sigh as he looks at you again, catching a small dissatisfied glare from you as he too sighed.

“I’m not any different than I was 10 years ago, y/n.” is all he says as he gazes out the window, his eyes not settling on anything in particular just looking away from your eyes that stared him down with that typical mom-look.

“You are. Juvie and everything else aged you well, kazu.” you say hopefully, patting his shoulder as he turned to meet your gaze, small tears forming in his eyes unexpectedly.

“I don’t want to hurt you. Please. Just… move.” he says, almost pleads, as he tries to scoot away himself. Your hands quickly found his as you looked into his eyes with full warmth.

“Hey it’s okay, you’re not hurting me. You didn’t know, remember?” your smile lightened the darkness in him as your gentleness flooded his senses, forcing him to nod as his mind began to slow down again.

Your hand found his and intertwined, a small squeeze coming from your hand to show him that you were actually there for him, a small smile forming on his face. Yeah, you were a keeper.

Do you have a favourite Tarlos episode or scene?

what a loaded question omg I can provide my favorite scene, but I have to go with top 5 episodes because I can’t just pick one

top scene: the soulmate scene in 4x16

it is everything I wanted out of that storyline and more. it is perfect. I would lay down my life for that scene. that scene is there for me when no one else is. if that scene has 1 fan, it’s me. if that scene has 0 fans, I’m dead. I’m sending fruit and muffin baskets to the person on the lone star team who said they needed a better wrap up to the Huntington’s storyline, scrapped the original scene, and came up with the 6 minutes of beauty that we saw. I’m offering them my non-existent first born child. life has never been the same since I heard Carlos call TK baby. I think about the dialogue in that scene at least once a week. I think about the implications of the dialogue 24/7. that scene is the heart and soul of tarlos’ relationship—love (strong, powerful love) at first sight, unconditional love, choosing each other again and again and again. it is everything I love about their love

Ok so I want to talk about this scene in particular, because I love it so much and feel like every time I watch it I learn some kind of new insight into Pete, and I think it foreshadows a lot of the future vegaspete moments (which--STAY WITH ME I know my brain rot is showing ok, I KNOW but it’s good I promise)

So the first thing I notice about this scene every time I watch it is how visibly uncomfortable Porsche is. Not only do we as the audience, who know Porsche’s motivations for wanting to witness this moment, and who get to see those fun flashbacks, know that he’s uncomfortable, but I think it’s clear to the other three in the room that Porsche is Not Having A Good Time. When Kinn’s determined that this is no longer a productive learning experience for Porsche, he calls out to Pete and signals for Pete to go with him outside. THIS IS EXTREMELY FASCINATING TO ME, because I think Kinn knows (HE KNOWS) that, in addition to basically being his bestie, Pete is probably the most empathic of all his men (he’s been tankhun’s babysitter without complaint for how long?), and that Porsche probably needs someone to talk him through whatever’s going on in his head. 

Up until this point, and in only three episodes I might add, we see multiple different occasions where Pete shows a deep emotional understanding of the people around him in ways no one else does. This comes in the form of him 1) not immediately ostracizing Porsche because he’s the bratty new guy, and instead taking him under his wing; this is significant because he’s THE ONLY ONE in the main house who doesn’t give Porsche any attitude, or treat him like he’s the gum stuck to the bottom of their shoe like everyone else does. 2) He’s the only bodyguard who is visibly uncomfortable when Tankhun is punishing Porsche with the mermaid costume AND is the only one who speaks up on Porsche’s behalf (T: Give him a treat! P:...that’s enough. He didn’t mean to). 3) Despite disagreeing with Thankhun’s punishment, he STILL feels obligated to educate Porsche on the trauma he endured as a reason for his “absurd” behavior. His interpretation of TK’s behaviors, and the rest of the family’s for that matter, also demonstrate just how perceptive he is. 4) OBVIOUSLY the scene in ep 2 where he stops Porsche from trying to beat Kinn’s ass after getting choked out. In this scene, it’s clear he’s taken the time to analyze the situation from Kinn’s perspective, or at least that he’s spent time thinking about how difficult things were/are for Kinn (“He used to love his people. The reason he became cruel was not totally on him”) and the fact that he doesn’t just blurt out Kinn’s secret in that moment speaks to his character, I think. I could go into even greater detail here, but I’ve already let this get out of hand, and its not even the main point I’m trying to make in this post.

SO PETE TAKES HIM OUTSIDE on Kinn’s order, right? This is where the ENTIRE conversation takes an incredible turn towards vegaspete foreshadowing for me. And Yes, it’s a conversation about Porsche and what he’s going through, but I think it’s important to acknowledge the double purpose its serving (which, bravo to the writers for that) and how at their cores Porsche and Vegas are going through very similar things. It’s also an important conversation because it reveals some truths that I think are important to remember when we think about how Pete could have fallen for Vegas despite him being his captor (and aside from him just being a really empathetic dude).

Porsche begins their impromptu therapy session with “He must really have no way out. That’s why he’s acting stupid.” Porsche is obviously saying this about the man they’re extorting, but then he relates it to his own experience with debt collectors “I know it very well, that having no way out can really make you do anything.” Immediately!!! I was thinking ‘you know who acts real stupid a lot, because he’s trapped in his family’s cycle of violence? Vegas.’ I digress. This scene is a turning point for Porsche in particular. He makes his first kill, yes, but that’s just meant to really bring home the realization he’s having that life isn’t as black and white as he’d always thought it was. Up until this point, Porsche has always seen himself the Victim of debt collectors, and he viewed them as an unnecessary evil (it’s not his fault his uncle gambles away all of their money!). It is at this point when he finds himself, the Victim, the Good Guy, with no choice but to become the Evil Debt Collector. Sometimes there is no choice. Sometimes the Good Guy must do a bad thing in order to survive. Things are more often stuck in a gray area than they are just good or just evil. “I never thought that I’d be like one of them today,” he says. This leaves him smack dab center in a moral gray area, and so clearly reeling from the realization. (he tries to save himself and stay The Good Guy when he tries to talk the guy down, but the guy shooting anyways forces him to instead acknowledge this truth once and for all.)

BACK TO VEGASPETE: Pete quietly lets Porsche say his piece in its entirety, and then gives a response that shows he’s understood this to be a universal truth for a long time. “We’re just teaching him a lesson,” is his first response. He doesn’t try to justify their actions, nor is he attempting in any way to reframe their situation in a way that makes them out to be either Good or Bad guys. If he did, he’d be playing into a narrative he doesn’t believe, and as we know, “theres no legacy as rich as honesty.” Instead, he goes on to give the one of the most iconic lines of the series: “There’s no heroes nor villains in this world.” Heroes being the paragon of all things good, and villains symbolizing all things evil. This certainly has broader implications for the series as a whole, but for vegaspete, it goes to show that Pete never looked at Vegas and saw villain. It’s more likely he saw him for what he was at his core: a broken man lashing out at a world that refused to love him despite his best efforts. He saw all of Vegas’ actions, not as isolated evil incidents, but as reactions to things around him and the way the people who were supposed to love him treated him. It’s also why it’s believable that he believed in Vegas’ capability to do good and love when he saw the way he treated the hedgehog. Animals often love unconditionally. Animals also cannot judge you or your motivations the way humans can. Pete saw Vegas loving the only living thing that ever loved him back, and he knew Vegas was simply the product of his environment and circumstances.

any of my codas that i wrote immediately after an episode aired—my 3x02 spec fic some and now none of you, or my 3x07 coda/3x08 spec fic not a victory march—simply because we didn’t know the outcome for these storylines yet, and i let myself get angsty.

7. what’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?

i think 95% of my fics have happy endings but to shout one out in particular….hm. i’d say got real love maybe—truly just. fluff. and the boys coming home to each other and making that official. i also think the proposal bliss in (not afraid of) living on a fault line has got to be up there as well

i’ve always stuck to very implied levels of smut in my fics….idk i always worry i won’t be able to make it sound good when there’s people out there who do it brilliantly. however i’m challenging myself with food fic which does have some smut (with feelings. oh the feelings)

i think i’m strongest when it comes to setting a scene; when exploring what that character is feeling. i like to think i can kind of evoke a mood through imagery? i’m most comfortable when it comes to introspection and exposition and general narrative

i tell myself i’m getting better, but i’d say dialogue is the constant thing that throws me off. i also worry i over-write sometimes

18. thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic?

i like it, if it’s being done with good intentions and suits the character. i’d imagine for heavier dialogue it would make sense to ask for someone who speaks the language to read it over to make sure it’s accurate

i can’t choose, so i present to you two wildly different honeymoons. first, dream this night away—almost 8.5k words after a seven month gap between posting when my writer’s block was at an ultimate high. then of course, to which there is no reply—i’ve been growing happier and happier with my writing especially with these last few fics of mine, and this one is something i’m just super proud of, and the support on it definitely brought me to tears a bit ajdnskdn

Fic Rec Friday Fun

Thank you for the tag @irispurpurea @reyesstrand @rosedavid @strandnreyes @iboatedhere @chicgeekgirl89 @catanisspicy - you're all so fantastic and I need to catch up on the ones in your lists I haven't read yet! A treat for me 🥰

So wanted to get some hiatus rec lists going and encourage some self promo in my friends so how about sharing your top fics no matter how big or small - give us the links to your wonderful words with the Most hits/Most kudos/Most comments/Most bookmarks /Most words/Least words

For me the above means it would only be split between two fics and then a third for least words, so I'm going for the next-most for comments and bookmarks.

Most Hits: When Soulmates Swim - Sparks and splashes fly when TK and Carlos each take up swimming while they recover from workplace injuries. I'm going to go ahead and say this is probably the funniest fic I've written based on feedback! There's angst of course but also TK and Carlos bring out each other's fun side and I'm so happy with it because of that.

Most Kudos: Chasers - A 3x13 coda. While TK is alone with Cooper, Carlos is alone with his thoughts. Both recall times they’ve chased the next high, other men, or each other. When Carlos arrives home, TK still has something important to say – and it's something he didn’t tell Cooper. I'm amazed and so grateful for the love on this one-shot. I loved delving into their backstories and featuring Alex who, fun fact, is based on my ex-boyfriend lol. Not me mining my most painful memories and emotions for content! ANYWAY this Cooper is in my current WIP so he'll be back soon...! Also Carlos goes for a swim and it's where the idea for the gym pool in When Soulmates Swim originated.

Most Comments: The Heart Behind the Shield - Bad Call (2x08) meets Abandoned (4x04) when TK and Carlos attempt to understand what they’ve been through and realize certain old wounds are bleeding into the new. They have both been held captive, faced death, made it home. Secrets, moods, hot messes – they love each other more every day. And they both still need their parents. I'd wanted to write a 2x08 coda for ages but couldn't figure out my angle until 4x04 came along with such blessed parallels. Like Chasers this also goes into backstory and I'm really happy with how those parts came out. Also just want to say that this has a particular scene between Carlos and Gabriel, which I'm very glad I wrote given what happens in 4x17.

Most Bookmarks: The Ruins of Wonderland - A divergence/re-imagining of Carlos and TK getting back together after their breakup. The severe winter storm doesn’t happen as forecast and Austin receives a manageable snowfall – without TK plunging into a frozen lake. Nancy’s 126 hang goes ahead. TK attends, but so does Carlos… This wasn't the first story I wrote/posted, but it's the first idea for a Tarlos fic I had and I have such a soft-spot for it. Important features: bed-breaking sex, slipper socks and a giant pretzel.

Most Words: When Soulmates Swim - 53k. The next is The Heart Behind the Shield at 34.4k. My longest one-shot is Man to Man at 14.6k.

Least Words: The Light of Our Life - 2.4k. After an awkward conversation, Carlos buys TK a bearded dragon and fears it may be a parting gift (Coda for 4x12). I took a long lunchbreak, wrote this, and posted it the same day. I've never done that before or since, and I honestly don't understand what happened to me...

A More Perfect Fall by @cinnaluminum

This is an excellent fic from Carlos' point of view during the first few episodes of season 1. There are 4 chapters, but chapter 1 in particular fits this week's prompt perfectly. We get right into Carlos' headspace at the honky tonk. I especially love the descriptions of Carlos grappling with his feelings that are leading him to do some things that are a bit out of character for him...like hook up in a public restroom with a guy he just met!

The first in the missing moments series, this is TK's point of view at the honky tonk. TK is going through A LOT. He's afraid of hurting both Carlos and himself and thinks he should probably just get rid of Carlos' number and never contact him again, for both their sakes...but he's not going to that, of course! What I love most in this one is that, despite all that TK is going through, there's that glimmer of hope for the future, even though TK is fighting it a bit as he attempts to protect his bruised and battered heart.

Teachers, by a long shot, is the longest. Currently sitting at over 100k.

3. Which WIP do you expect will end up the longest?

Teachers or Bodyguard AU. Probably Teachers, but I have a lot of plans for Bodyguard.

4. Which WIP is your favourite to write/the most enjoyable to write? Why?

I only have 3 wips I have actual words written for. Teachers is very fun! Bodyguard has been trying to steal my attention for quite a while! It’s so fun to write Jonah, as well as the dynamic of TK, Carlos, and Jonah as a little family.

5. Which WIP do you find the most intimidating to write? Why?

Probably Bodyguard. I need the angst and the drama and the desperation to hit right.

6. Which WIP do you experience the most self-doubt about. Why?

Right now, probably the Cruise fic because I’m getting very self conscious about making it as fun as it should be.

7. Which of your WIPs will you seek out a beta/sensitivity reader for? Why?

I have my honorary beta reader/cheerleader all rolled into one with @rmd-writes. She worked her way into my docs ages ago and I can’t imagine not asking her to read it first.

8. Have any of your WIPs been struck by the curse of writer's block?

Yes. Bodyguard did. I started it in January or February of this year, struggled to plan the next chapter, started reading a ton of Lone Star fics, began writing Teachers, and it has sat there like a sad, ignored WIP for months. But I’m coming back to it!

9. Which WIP has your favourite OC? Tell us about them?

Jonah may not be an actual OC, but this version of him kind of is and I absolutely love him! He’s a tiny, loving, teacher’s pet and he is my child.

10. Which WIP is the sexiest?

Cruise or Bodyguard may end up being the sexiest. If I’ve done my job right 😂

11. Which WIP is the angstiest?

Bodyguard or Delayed Wedding will be the winners. Bodyguard for potential angst and bodily harm, Delayed Wedding for emotions.

12. Which WIP has the best characterisation (in your humble opinion)?

Well that is really hard. I am gonna say the cruise WIP because I get to really lean into oblivious Alex and I’m excited for it!

13. Which WIP has the best scene setting (in your humble opinion)?

Cruise fic. They’re on their way to Europe. I can’t wait to get to that part!

14. Which WIP have you worked the hardest on?

I guess Teachers, just for the sheer amount of time I have spent writing it. I started it in February. I would love to finish it by the end of 2023. Let’s hope. I looked back and for an unhinged week when I had Covid, I wrote an obscene amount of words. So, yeah, Teachers.

15. Which WIP do you have the highest expectations for? Why?

Bodyguard or PR Relationship. Both of them lean into tropes I love and so I want them to work.

16. Do you dream about any of your WIPs?

Not that I can remember. Day dream? All the time.

17. Do any of your WIPs have particular complexities that your other fics don't?

I guess Delayed Wedding might because I’ll have to rely a lot on canon. AUs I can be a bit more free.

18. Which WIP is the funniest or has the most humour?

Probably the Cruise fic. Or Teachers.

19. Do any of your WIPs contain outside POVs or a deep dive on a character other than the main ship? How are you finding that process?

Teachers had a decent dive into Jonah, though it’s still from Carlos or TK’s perspective.

20. Tell us one thing we don't know about one or more of your WIPs.

I’m excited to write more angst. And a few of these will be fulllll of angst. Teeheeheee.

My favorite things from episode 4x07 …in no particular order:

Grace's facial expressions when she found out about Tommy's fling with Julius... amazing. hilarious. relatable.

Paul is so observant in his day-to-day life but when he's interested in someone romantically he has no chill and is completely unaware and it's adorable as fuck.

the firehouse scene when Asha showed up and then Nancy, Mateo, and TK teasing him after she's left? Peak 126 firefam feels

BASKETBALL. that's all I gotta say. the basketball scene was truly not long enough but I loved it all the same.

I've said it once, I'll say it again - Owen is at his best as a character when he's being a captain. His scenes this episode with Paul were exactly that and I enjoyed them. Also love the little hints of him becoming toooo involved in wedding planning already.

Judd immediately being on Tommy's side and ready to brand the pastor's kid as evil lmao.

Paul telling Asha about the kid from season one with the toy stuck up his nose! 🤣 I love the throwback.

The moment during the pacemaker call when Paul turns to Owen after they've found out it was cause of sex and kind of mouths "that can happen?" ~oh fuck better not happen to me~

Mateo's shitty latte art!! precious!! absolutely horrendous... but precious!

Tommy Vega is amazing. she can be ruthless as hell - slashing her mom's boyfriends tires?! damn, girl! - and I love her for it.

PAUL motherfucKING STRICKLAND. thats it. thats all. just every scene he was in. if I've left it off the list, this is my catch-all. it was a fave moment, I'm sure.

I don’t care about video games or famous/nonfamous AUs generally. But this fic. ohmygod the sex scenes are so good and the whole thing is so achingly romantic and epic.

Do you need to have watched Shameless to read it? Well I think you SHOULD watch all of shameless on a month-long binge like I did. I think that would improve your life. But this is pretty AU and is probably not strictly necessary to have prior knowledge of the show. 

Things Beyond Mistake by grayola Shameless (american) Ian Gallagher/Mickey Milkovich 130,497 words (WIP)

By the same author, this crushingly unfinished story about small towns and the South and longing—I know some people don’t read WIPs bc they don’t want to do this to themselves. I love pain. Let's all go leave very nice comments for the author so they will maybe finish this!!

Listen you SHOULD watch Mindhunter. But even if you haven’t, you may enjoy this real fucked-up kinda slow-burn romance between two people who are ruinously codependent and obsessive, among meticulously crafted mysteries. I will warn you, the ending for this had me pacing my apartment yelling “that’s it??!!!” for several hours after. But I am still wholeheartedly recommending this.

You should just read everything paperstorm has written. But this series in particular is such required reading for my Lonestar peeps. TK and Carlos at their angsty-iest, rawest, sexiest, most beautiful. This is the kind of show where I NEED to know more than the episodes alone give me and this fic gives so much more!! And I hear there is more on the way!

I was tagged by @rosedavid to share my top five favorite tarlos scenes, so here they are in no particular order:

1. TK comes to the apartment looking ransacked and thinking they were robbed only for Carlos to say he's been looking for Lou. My favorite part is when TK goes "You got him? Is he," and Carlos goes "What? No! I didn't kill him"

2. TK waking up from whatever number coma after going into hypothermic shock and he physically pulls Carlos into a hug, initiating that physical touch. Especially since Carlos had that whole moment when he wanted to touch TK's hand but couldn't 💔

3. It's kind of minuscule, but I really do love the scene where TK is making Beef Wellington for dinner. We watched TK go from someone who didn't want to stay for dinner for making Beef Wellington for someone.

4. TK comforting Carlos after the loft burned down will always be one that plays in my head on a loop. At that point of the show, I feel like we'd only seen Carlos comfort TK because he felt the need to be the one who was "grounded" but it was nice to see him break his own wall down, in a way.

5. Proposal of course! I've said it before, but seeing TK go from someone who set up a fancy dinner to propose to someone with a ring to proposing to Carlos in the middle of the night with nothing more than words and his heart?? Love it each and every time.

Oooh, an EXCELLENT question. Once, in my terrible old job, I received an unsolicited, brand new, One Direction double duvet cover delivered direct to my desk. They knew my name, my work address, and that I liked One Direction. People kept asking me if I knew who it was from, and in the end I lied and said I did because they wouldn't stop asking. Spoiler: I still don't know who sent it.

ANYWAY. Not working today so I have a nice day of nothing in particular planned. Going to maybe:

finish this mango margarita candle so I can swap out the summer candles for the autumnal ones (and bring out my absolute favourite vanilla pumpkin and bourbon candle, literally my favourite candle of all time. I got mine from TK Maxx a couple of years ago and LONG for more of them, but if you're in America you can just... BUY YOUR OWN direct from the source, well jealous)

watch mackerel skies over the sea out of my window (actually visibility is so poor today the sea is virtually invisible, which is always a weird joy considering it's just across the road)

finish knitting the sleeve of this jumper I've been making on and off all year. Annoyingly, you apparently have to make a second sleeve if you're knitting a jumper? Like do the whole thing over again? I rage against the dying of the light (two sleeves on a sweater)

watch some more of s2 of only murders in the building

maybe finish this stupid level of two point hospital which I'm playing through for the third time (I own it on three different platforms and regret nothing, except that I used to be able to play for hours and now I have energy for one hour at the most)

take five scheduled rest breaks at agreed times (this one is going well, the first one was supposed to happen... some minutes ago, love chronic illness)

do the fucking washing up, we are all sisyphus in this life

swap out the damp traps all around the house (see above point re: sisyphus)

finish this fucking scene (literally: there is fucking, it is also taking a fucking long time)

Rules: Share one scene or art that never made it into a/the finished piece and probably never will. (And if you want, share what it was supposed to be and why you left it out or never finished it.)

Thank you @heartstringsduet for the tag! Most of the stuff i've written ends up in the graveyard for one reason or another, which is why i've not posted anything yet. But I like the idea of some of it seeing the light of day.

So, this scene is the only thing i've ever written for this fic. The idea came to me very vividly and this scene in particular, but, as you will see, it's disjointed as hell and I couldn't find a way to make it work.

The premise is that TK and Carlos get into a fight years into their marriage and Carlos walks out to calm down. It's the middle of the night so he ends up sat on a bench in a small park. Then through the power of ✨magic✨ he is sent back in time to important moments in his and TK's relationship and realises how stupid he'd been.

Carlos blinked and he was at the honky-tonk, the first day that he and TK met. 

It had been years and there were countless other moments they had shared together, but he still remembered it like it was yesterday.

Michelle had been waiting for him outside when he arrived, feeling a little silly in his tight shirt, and a little apprehensive about being invited. But she hadn’t let him linger in those thoughts at all, had started talking to him before he was even next to her, and all but dragged him to the table she was sharing with Nancy and Tim. They greeted him politely, not quite friends but not distant acquaintances either, it wasn’t the first time Michelle had forced him to be sociable. 

Then Michelle had launched into her plan to haze Captain Strand. She liked him, Carlos could tell that much, but she was also Michelle and she was going to assert her dominance as Paramedic Captain to make sure the new captain was a good fit for their station. 

Carlos quickly made an excuse to get himself a beer while the other three were giggling about her plan. He didn’t want to get mixed up in their politics.

As he walked across the room to get to the bar, he noticed where the new look 126 had set up across a couple of tables.

He remembered feeling just as floored by TK’s everything as he had at the accident earlier in the night, if not more so without the rain to blur his vision. Everything had narrowed to where TK was laughing along with his new co-workers. 

Then he had spent so long by the bar, just watching him and how he interacted with the people around him that he finished his beer and Michelle came to find him. She followed his eyeline and then laughed. “You need to get laid.” 

Carlos had blushed and spluttered, but this time he didn’t.

It had been half he needed to get laid, and half so much more than that. He hadn’t known how meeting TK had shifted his entire world on its axis then, but some part of him knew that meeting TK was momentous. 

“Distract his Dad?” 

Michelle considered him for a moment but shrugged and went to drag Owen off to the dancefloor just as she had the first time this happened. 

Carlos remembered so clearly the nerves he had felt as he approached TK, not knowing if he was gay, not knowing if he would be into him even if he was. Now, his mind full of memories this body hadn’t yet had a chance to make, all he felt was love. 

“Hey,” He said as he came to stand by TK. He looked so much younger, so much more guarded too. 

TK glanced over to him, a smile forcing its way off his lips before it could even appear. He gave Carlos an obvious once over that set a fire in his gut just the way it had the first time, maybe even more so now that he knew what was waiting for him. “Hey” 

“We’re soulmates.”

TK looked so taken aback by how strong his words were, it made Carlos laugh. 

“We’re soulmates and it doesn’t matter that I’m saying it to you now because I'm pretty sure you’re a figment of my imagination sent to kick my ass. I’m going to tell you this now and when I wake up I’m going to drive home and tell you again.” He took a deep breath. “This moment right here changed my life, if you didn’t dance we me then drag me off to that bathroom so we could get each other off, I wouldn’t have reconnected with my family, I wouldn’t have friends that I care for like a second family, I wouldn’t be a detective, I wouldn’t have anything. I would’ve stayed trapped while I waited for my life to start, and I don’t tell you enough how much I love you. I think a part of me has always known that I love you since this moment. And I have loved you at every single moment since, even when you broke my heart and I thought it was going to end up alone forever. I’m sorry if I ever made you doubt that and I’m going to do better. I’m going to do so much better, baby.” 

The TK from the past was looking around for someone, probably his dad or anyone else he recognised, looking for a way out of this interaction. Carlos didn’t blame him, he’d just had a love confession from a guy that he’d met once. 

“I’m going, don’t worry.” He held his hands up with a smile and started backing away, unable to take his eyes off TK as he did so until he bumped into someone behind him and was forced to look where he was going. 

He ran outside the honky-tonky, looked up to the sky and shouted, “Okay! You win! I understand now, let me go home and tell my husband I love him.” 

He closed his eyes and waited.
