————————————————————————-
December 18th, 2023
If you told me a year ago, when I started dating Joe, that we would have to go two months without seeing each other, I wouldn't have even agreed to go on a date with him.
Joe and I had an… age gap. He was 27, with an amazing career and a life built for himself, and I was 20 and still in college.
He was in Cincinnati while I was in Athens attending Ohio University.
We had met through our fathers who were both on the coaching staff at OU. We had a family dinner together, and Joe was the only one of Jimmy’s three boys who was able to make it.
Joe swears up and down still to this day that it was love at first sight when he saw me. He was just out of a relationship and wasn't looking for anything but he says that all changed when he saw me.
Now back to the two months without each other. Obviously, we were long-distance, and it was the mid-football season for him so that meant he was busy all of the time. I had just gotten done with finals for my fall semester, so up until now I had been super busy with university stuff.
Today I would see Joe for the first time since early October, and I couldn't be more excited.
My parents were even super excited because they were the ones on the receiving end of my griping the past couple of months.
My little brother was also super excited. Tommy was 10 years old and playing his first-ever tackle football game today. It was my dad’s travel football team he was playing for. My dad doesn't trust the coaches at his school so Tommy’s not allowed to play there.
Tommy’s only request for his first game was that his favorite NFL player be there.
It was Joe of course, and he promised he would be there.
He didn't disappoint either, just as my dad and Tommy took the field, Joe texted me saying he was a couple of minutes away.
“Are you excited?” - my mom nudged me
“Yeah. I've missed him.” - you smiled
“Oh, we know.” - your mom
I glared at her and rolled my eyes before I pulled out my phone to pass the time.
“Look, there he is!” - my mom
My head snapped up and there he was in all of his glory. Joe was walking over to the bleachers while watching the field.
“Go!” - my mom
I jumped up and ran down the stairs, seeing my mom get her phone out to record in the corner of my eye.
Joe by now had realized I'd seen him and stopped walking to open his arms for me.
When I was within inches of him I jumped into his arms.
His strong arms wrapped around my body and he slowly swayed with me.
“There’s my beautiful girl.” - Joe
“I missed you so much.” - you
“I missed you more. A day didn't go by that I didn't wish I was with you.” - Joe
My legs wrapped around his waist and my arms were around his neck. I knew that Joe wasn't a fan of PDA but this moment was too good, and there were barely any people in the bleachers anyways.
“You’re not allowed to leave me for that long again.” - you
“Never again sweetheart. I'll take you with me if I have to.” - Joe
“I love you.” - you
“I love you too…. so much.” - Joe whispered
A few moments of just hugging later, I spoke up.
“Can you walk us up to my mom? I don't want to let go yet.” - you
“Of course.” - Joe chuckled
My grip on him tightened as he easily started walking in his usual loose-hipped strides.
Climbing the stairs wasn't a problem for him either with me in his arms, Joe was taking two steps at a time.
“Hey Joe!” - your mom
“Hey! It's good to see you.” - Joe
“I don't know if you can tell, but she's missed you a lot.” - your mom
“I think I picked up on that.” - Joe chuckled
Joe gently lowered me onto the bleacher and plopped down next to me. We always sat at the top so we could sit against the wall of chain fencing.
I couldn't help but admire how cute he looked right now. Joe was wearing light grey sweatpants with a dark grey sweatshirt and flannel over top of it. The white backward hat was the icing on the cake.
“You're so handsome, Joe.” - you laid your head on his shoulder
“You say that all the time, baby.” - Joe smiled
“Because I mean it.” - you
Joe looked down at me with a large smile and kissed my forehead. One of his arms looped around my waist as he pulled away.
“Well, you're pretty gorgeous yourself.” - Joe
Feeling my cheeks heating up, I hid my face in his neck. Joe would usually try to make me blush more, but he was enjoying the heat of your red cheeks against his cold neck.
My mom handed Joe a blanket to which he gave her a thankful smile before draping it over our legs.
“You warm?” - Joe
“Mhm. You emit a lot of heat.” - you giggled
“Good.” - Joe
“By the way, you're going to have to activate your muscles and carry my bags to your car later. I have a few.” - you
“I’ll start warming them up.” - Joe joked
My mom laughed along with me and I couldn't feel any happier in that moment.
——
I knew Joe would cheer the boys on, but I didn't expect him to be jumping up, yelling, warning the defense when the other team was doing a pass play, and so much more.
This one time specifically, the game was kind of getting slow so I was falling asleep on Joe’s shoulder. My brother’s team got a touchdown and Joe abruptly jumped, waking me up in the process.
“Sorry, my love.” - Joe sat back down and pulled you back into his chest
The scene made me wonder about my future with Joe. Maybe one day we’ll be doing the same thing with our own son.
“I'm so proud of Tommy. He acts so maturely football-wise for his age.” - Joe
His statement sealed my previous thought. There will be a future for us, and maybe I'm right about us cheering on our future son.
——
Come halftime, my dad’s team was up 12-0.
“Joey.” - you nudged your boyfriend, who was deep into a conversation with your mom.
“Mhm?” - Joe
“Can you get me some hot chocolate from the concession stand?” - you
“Of course. I'll be right back. Do you want anything to snack on?” - Joe
“Mm, no I'm okay. Thank you! I love you!” - you
Joe stood up and moved the blanket onto me more before placing a kiss on my cheek.
“I love you too.” - Joe grinned and walked away
A few minutes later, Joe walked back with a drink carrier and a paper bag in his other hand.
“What is all of that?” - you laughed
He handed me and my mom a hot chocolate before setting one down for himself.
“You said you didn't want a snack but I know that means you wanted one.” - Joe handed you the bag
Gosh, he knew me so well. After giving Joe an appreciative smile I opened the bag to find three chocolate chip cookies.
“There was an older lady up there selling baked goods so I thought I'd snag a couple cookies. You can have one if you want to, y/m/n.” - Joe
“Well aren't you sweet.” - your mom took a cookie from you as you handed it to her
My mom happily munched on her cookie and I couldn't help but laugh at my own thoughts.
“What?” - Joe
“You're trying to impress my parents, huh?” - you
“Well, I’m taking you three hours away for a week! I want them to know you're safe staying at my place.” - Joe
That's probably what I'm most looking forward to out of this whole day. After the game is over, I'm going with Joe to Cincinnati where I'll be staying at his house for the week since it's their Bye.
“Joey, they already know that. I wouldn't be going if they didn't. Also, I'm an adult I can do what I want!” - you
“Babe. I know you're an adult. I just don't want them to be wary because I'm an older guy.” - Joe
“Joseph, you're seven years older stop acting like you're forty.” - you
Joe rolled his eyes but I scooted closer to him and threw the blanket over his lap.
“You're allowed to want to impress my parents, but don't feel like you have to. They love you, because I love you.” - you
My heart did pretty much the exact opposite of the rest of my body and warmed deeply when Joe placed a tiny kiss on the tip of my nose. It was a signal that he didn't know what to say back in the moment but appreciated my statement.
——
“Joe!” - Tommy ran out of the gate and up to Joe, who had his arms open for your brother
The team had won, thankfully and now we were all standing and waiting for the kids to get out of their post-game huddle.
I couldn't put into words how I felt when I watched Joe hug Tommy like his own brother. It was so sweet and I'd never felt so in love.
“You’ve got one good man, y/n.” - your mom
“I know.” - you grinned
My eyes drifted from my mom’s smiling face back down to my boyfriend, the love of my life, hyping up my little brother over a couple of his receptions.
That's when I knew Joe was the one.

Lone Star Season 4 Thoughts: I love Season 4...mostly
With the prospect of season 5 filming beginning so soon, I've been thinking a lot about season 4 lately. I felt like rambling out some of my thoughts on here.
First, perhaps an unpopular opinion (?) but I love season 4. Sure, it has its flaws, but to me, the good far outweighs the bad. For one thing, I personally don't mind Gabriel's death. It's not what I would have chosen myself if I were writing the finale, and I think it could have benefited from a 3-5 episode arc rather than being squeezed into two already very busy episodes, but I appreciate a lot of what came with it and the potential it provides for season 5. Rafa's acting in the finale was incredible and the aftermath of Gabriel dying resulted in one of my top 10 Tarlos scenes of all time (the scene of them deciding to postpone the wedding at the beginning of 4x18) and one of my top 10 non-Tarlos scenes of all time (the Owen and Carlos scene). Season 4 also gave us the incredible soulmates scene, Lou II, lots of other excellent Tarlos scenes/episodes (4x02, 4x04, 4x08, 4x12, 4x16-18), some new love interests I really liked (Asha, Joe, and Trevor...NOT Kendra), a true showcase of Rafa's talent as an actor along with (finally!) the screen time he deserves, a Marjan storyline that wasn't perfect but had a lot of good stuff to enjoy, and a mention of the Tarlos wedding in every single episode. I enjoyed watching every episode (with the possible exception of 4x03...but even there I can find things to enjoy).
As far as the whole Iris/secret marriage storyline goes, yeah, it's not great. But I can still find a lot to appreciate within it. I love Iris, I love her friendship with Carlos (Rafa and Lyndsy sold me on their friendship with a single hospital scene in 4x03!), and I think it added fascinating elements to Carlos' backstory...like the fact that he was so lost and upset after his family's reaction to his coming out that he married a woman to try to be the man he believed they wanted and needed him to be. For the parts I don't like as much and that--let's face it, don't make much sense--I'm able to look past them or make up head canons to explain them away. (And the talented fic writers of this fandom have done a great service to help that process along...there are many great ones, but particular shout out to Where All This Love Comes From @carlos-in-glasses, which managed to make better sense of Carlos' backstory than I ever imagined possible...if you haven't read it yet, I suggest you do so ASAP). I certainly don't blame anyone who can't do this...that storyline was a mess, I can't deny that! But for me, there's enough to appreciate that it doesn't mess with my enjoyment of the season.
Aside from the secret marriage thing, I think the worst storyline of the season was the Owen/FBI storyline. The sad thing is that this one could have been ok had it been executed better. The biggest issues here were (1) too much Owen off on his own time, which is never good--Owen is at his best when he's in storylines with the other main characters--and (2) they completely failed to stick the landing. BADLY. If you're going to do a white supremacist storyline, you need to commit! Instead, they tried to throw in so many twists that they ended up trying to make us feel sympathy for and see the white supremacist gang members as victims. Yeah, not going to work for me when, in a previous episode, you told us they were literal Nazis! But ultimately I don't really care all that much about a solo Owen storyline to begin with, so it didn't affect my enjoyment of the season as a whole.
All of that said, the thing that irritated me the most about season 4 was the 8 week deadline for the wedding. The ridiculous Lone Star timeline has always been a bit of a thorn in my side, but it really got out of hand in season 4. What bothers me most is the fact that the whole 8 weeks thing is both so completely ridiculous and so completely unnecessary! It is clearly there only to slightly raise the stakes for the first few episodes of the season. It's "Oh no, they have to get married in 8 weeks, which means Carlos has to hurry up and get divorced from Iris to make the deadline, only now Iris has gone missing and she hasn't signed the divorce papers yet so they won't be able to get married!" The exact same thing could have been accomplished with an even slightly more realistic deadline--say 4 months. A 4 month deadline would have still been an incredibly short amount of time to plan a wedding and it would have still required urgency in the divorce process. And yeah, 4 months would have still been a bit unbelievable, but it would have been the ordinary tv show timeline kind of unbelievable, and it would have fit far better with the other markers of time in season 4, like the fact that it's explicitly stated that it's January in the beginning of the season and May at the end.
To make matters worse, the urgency for Iris to sign the papers--once again, the whole reason for the 8 week deadline-- isn't really even addressed after 4x02 because once Iris goes missing, her safety is the main concern. Then, once they wrap that storyline up, it is literally never mentioned again. I spent the entire season waiting for it to become an issue, but it never does. The writers essentially forget about it and spend the entire rest of the season providing dates and stating that amounts of time have passed that add up to way more than 8 weeks. It's just so RIDICULOUS and it means NOTHING!
Ok, whew, got that out. Probably no one is still reading at this point, but if you are, thank you for reading my essay and I love you 💜

10 Characters, 10 Fandoms, 10 Tags
Good morning!
Tagged by @ghostoffuturespast on my main blog and both @seeker-of-truth and @ouroboros-hideout on my sideblog-- for the sake of keeping everything jointed I'll post this on my main lol.
Buckle in folks this one's a doozy.
Connor Kenway/Ratonhnhaké:ton (Assassin's Creed III)
Tumblr media
Even as the years go by, Connor was the character I made a Tumblr account for and pretty much the only reason I bother still paying attention to Assassin's Creed as a franchise anymore. I was there, man. I was there when everyone in the fandom and their mothers hated this guy, but I will still defend him even with my goddamn life. Characters that go through intense tragedy after intense tragedy and still come out the other side gentle and optimistic are my lifeblood.
2. Johnny Silverhand (Cyberpunk 2077)
Tumblr media
(People who follow me for my sideblog make a Surprised Pikachu Face at this placement) My gross rat bastard man I love you I hate you I love you. An intensely tortured character with arguably more negative personality traits than positive ones, but who he is and even why he is is so engaging and tragic that you almost forget he's supposed to be getting on your nerves for most of the game's runtime. Damn you Keanu Reeves and your effortless dorky charisma.
3. Arthur Morgan (Red Dead Redemption 2)
Tumblr media
Arthur baby you deserved the world. An insanely complex character with gray morals and a jaded worldview who could never do right no matter how hard he tried until the one moment where it mattered most. I loved John in RDR1 and didn't really expect to get so attached to Arthur, but R* truly did grab me by the shoulders and said "Bet, bitch". To this day, the fact that I never finished that 200k+ word OC fic disguised as an Arthur character study still haunts me.
4. Korra (Avatar: The Legend of Korra)
Tumblr media
As someone who'd watched the original Last Airbender series as it aired when I was a kid, I was super excited for a female Avatar when the series was announced back in...god, was I in high school? The point being-- when the show started really hitting it's stride with Korra's character in season 3 I was beyond hooked, and I loved season 4 probably a lot more than I think I should've, but MAN, was it a fun ride. Korra is a character and a show that both got severely panned and honestly I think once you get out of the mindset that you aren't watching Aang 2.0 you'll have a much funner time.
5. Steve Harrington (Stranger Things)
Tumblr media
Maybe not as much in later seasons when they really leaned off his popularity + Joe Keery's charisma, but lemme tell y'all season 2 Steve had me in a bonafide stranglehold for two years. "Character stepping up to a leadership role and then getting forcibly adopted by the people they're leading" is one of my favorite tropes and the reason that it worked so well in S2 is partly because the concern of Steve still kinda/sorta had the potential to swing back towards being the bully archetype he showed shades of in S1, so you got to see his relationship with the kids start off as kinda selfish but grow into a genuine protectiveness. GOD this was a top tier man y'all! We had it so good!
6. Rosa Diaz (Brooklyn 99)
Tumblr media
Maybe this is coming off the fact that my roommate and I literally just finished binge watching B99 for like the fifth time? But I forgot how much I actually really liked Rosa. One of the best sitcom deadpan snarkers of recent years and I personally liked that they affirmed that she didn't need to see herself settling down to be happy. I'm glad this role basically launched Stephanie Beatriz's career because she truly is the unsung hero of this show's comedy and heart and never really gets enough credit for it imho.
7. Melissa Schemmenti (Abbott Elementary)
Tumblr media
Every single time I watch Abbott Elementary. Every. Single. Time. Someone looks at me when Schemmenti appears on screen and goes "Wow, she acts a lot like you do!". And I have to sigh and nod and pretend I don't see it lol. Though unfortunately our differing football opinions means we would probably end up in a fistfight.
8. Takashi "Shiro" Shirogane (Voltron: Legendary Defender)
Tumblr media
I will never forgive the VLD showrunners for dropping a nuke on Shiro's character development. Seasons 1-2 Shiro was some of most fun I've ever had following a protagionist's journey to conquer his inner struggles and solely for that, I still have a massive soft spot for him. Dreamworks think about how you massacred my boy and feel bad for it.
9. Benjamin "Benji" Ovich (Beartown Series)
Tumblr media
This gif is from the HBO Nordic series (haven't watched it, desperately still want to, don't know if I even can at this point lol), but I'm specifically talking about Benji from the Beartown book trilogy. He evolves into the series deuteragonist alongside Maya and god, he is just such a tragic character who deserves all the world and more. Go read Beartown and scream at me for it.
10. Joey Tribbiani (Friends)
Tumblr media
"Characters I See a Lot of Myself In 2: Electric Boogaloo". Joey is the best friend in the entire cast there I said it. Honestly my ideal relationship is a funny overly-assured man who loves the New York Rangers, loves his friends intensely, and has dumb himbo energy. The loud Italian family is just an added bonus.
Uhhhhh who hasn't been tagged yet sorry guys I was late to the party on this one lmao.

My thoughts on episode 10
SPOILERS for season 3, episode 10 of the Animaniacs reboot
So that's great. I took two hours to write this entire review, and then with one press of control + Z, it was completely gone. Great site Tumblr. Really works as intended.
I was in a better mood, but having to rewrite this ENTIRE thing sucks so badly. I try to give my genuine thoughts as I go, and it's impossible to replicate that on the second try. I want to scream. Why can't this week just go right?
So now you're getting a negative opening for what was a super positive review. I seriously want to punch a wall. A website meant for long posts doesn't have an editor designed for them. That's just great.
I can't rewrite that whole thing. Just have a collection of screenshots and some jumbled thoughts.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I'm sorry for Pinky and the Brain fans that their final showing was so short. I didn't like Brain talking about the "endlessly repetitive formulaic rebooted franchise that relies on just a handful of tired characters." You can say it's the writers taking a shot at themselves, but it really isn't. It's not their show. They didn't create the characters. Combined with the ending, it just feels a little disrespectful to the people who put their heart and soul into creating this show in the first place, and to the fans who genuinely love these characters.
Look at them being silly!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I can't gush enough about the song. Such cute animation, such powerful music!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I teared up while listening to it this time. I'll probably do the same on every future watch.
Tumblr media
I liked that Wakko was right about everything and had the idea that saved the day. The Warners literally saved the world and they'll still be treated like garbage by everyone around them.
The Joe segment was funny, especially the zoom out at the end. I liked hearing "Waltzing Matilda" in the background.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Dot was so cute wanting to go on the teacups, just being infatuated with the idea of spinning around in a little teacup!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
This segment is the epitome of "this is my life now."
Poor Wakko has the worst luck. The SAME CLOWN just happened to be at this carnival? At least we know he got down from Mars.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I thought it was weird to have two cataclysmic endings for the reboot six minutes apart from each other. Although they say this sketch was written for season 1, I find it really hard to believe that this wasn't originally meant to end the season/reboot, especially with Dot's quip at the end. I'm not sure I would want this to be the ending, though. It would have sucked if the Warners were the ones who explicitly ended their universe and killed everyone inside. That would have proven everyone right about their destructive nature all along.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I thought this was a refreshing segment. Slappy sounded and looked great. Like I expected, it was short and there was no Skippy, but I'm happy it exists. I was surprised and happy to see that they got Sherri Stoner to return for work on the reboot.
I liked how Everyday Safety was just a never-ending cascade of total nonsense.
Tumblr media
The Council is not pleased.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I thought Wakko's bottle song was catchy. I liked that it actually sounded like Wakko blowing. I wonder if they got Jess to do that for real in the studio?
Tumblr media
And the ending. I wrote four paragraphs about it, and it sucks so bad because I thought I made my points quite well. Let me try again.
I understand the metaphor with the abrupt and sudden ending. I know the asteroid is meant to represent Hulu. I just don't think they should have pushed their bitter disappointment with the show ending directly onto us. They should have thought it through a lot better.
If they were going to go doom and gloom, which they shouldn't have, they should've at least given the ending some emotional weight. How am I supposed to feel anything when the characters themselves don't show any reaction to their unexpected, oncoming violent deaths? I'm not saying it should have been super depressing with crying and begging. They just should have given a genuine reaction instead of doing business as usual. The closest set of siblings in the world is about to go out in a fiery blaze, and they're not even touching each other. They're just standing near each other awkwardly. Have them embrace and accept their death with a positive remark about how it was all worth it. That would at least give some closure.
What they should have done, if I could rewrite it from scratch, is give us a satisfying, happy ending. Show the Warners finally earning their freedom from the tower after 90 years. Maybe have them gaze at the sunset together, mirroring how the sun rose at the very beginning of the reboot. Even if they didn't have time to animate new scenery for something like that, anything would have been better for this. This ending just feels empty. It lacks any emotion besides pure shock and it feels like an F you to everyone who cares about the show. The creators might have intended that F you to feel like it was coming from Hulu, but Hulu didn't write this scene. The reboot writers did, and they had the power to leave us with something better. This could be the last Animaniacs we ever see.
I'm at least happy they attempted an ending. The original didn't have one at all. It just sucks that Animaniacs had to end unexpectedly and unsatisfyingly both times it's been suddenly cancelled. The reboot was supposed to fix that.
This was perhaps the most entertaining episode of the season for me. It has one of the greatest Animaniacs songs ever, maybe the best song of the season, I'm still not sure. I still love The Island of Dr. Warneau a lot, so I'm giving this episode a solid second place in my final ranking for the season.
Episode 6
Episode 10
Episode 3
Episode 9
Episode 7
Episode 4
Episode 2
Episode 1
Episode 5
Episode 8
That means that the majority of episodes this season are episodes I would consider really good. The top 4 are all episodes I would consider really great. I'll give my thoughts on the season as a whole in my collective season 3 review, but I'll need a few more days before I start writing that. I need some time to collect myself and reflect.
I'm sorry for how this review turned out. The first version felt a lot more positive, because in this attempt I just wanted to express my more well-developed thoughts, which happened to be criticisms. I liked this episode a lot. I just so desperately wish I hadn't lost that first version. It only adds to the most heavily conflicting mix of emotions I've ever felt in one week. I was feeling good, and now I'm knocked down again. I'm sorry to be the one putting so much negativity into the fandom. I want this to be a positive place for all. If I wasn't able to express my emotions here, though, I wouldn't be able to deal with them at all. So thanks to those that have been listening.
I encourage you to add to the discussion of this episode if you want. If you're from the future, please don't say anything about any of the episodes that come after this ;)

Rewatching old favourite crime dramas...
I just finished rewatching Vera up to Series 9, am in the middle of a rewatch of Death in Paradise and have started rewatching Wallander as well and am having some thoughts so I'd thought I'd write a post instead of just stewing in these thoughts.
Vera
I love her, your honour.
I love Vera, I love the location and how it's so beautifully shot, I love the slightly gothic edge to the mysteries. Most memorable episodes for me are "The Crow Trap" and "The Deer Hunters". It holds up really well too - sometimes I'll rewatch a crime drama that I once loved and find myself getting increasingly intolerant of the way it deploys certain tropes, like the tortured brooding lead detective with anger issues and/or a tragic backstory or "internal investigations are bad actually" or "it's fine for the lead detective to lose his temper and almost murder someone" which spoiled Waking the Dead and The Inspector Lynley Mysteries for me (the latter in the final seasons, mostly). Vera lacks most of that kind of drama. Vera is, in a way, a tortured, brooding detective but it never takes over the story.
One thing I did pick up on is that while I don't really have any preference for Aiden or Joe as Vera's offsider, I do miss the way that Joe's character opened up different storylines. We don't get nearly as much about Aiden's family and home life as we do about Joe's, and we got more about Vera's past and private life with Joe, like the subplots about her half-sister and her angina. I do feel cheated that Joe's exit happened off-screen, between series, but apparently he's coming back in Series 13?
(n.b. I finished at Series 9 because I don't have Series 10 on DVD, I started Series 11 but it was a bit too fresh in my mind and Series 12 isn't out on DVD yet.)
-
Death In Paradise
This isn't the first rewatch of the show I've done (the early seasons I've rewatched multiple times, they're very familiar and I can remember whodunnit) but I haven't watched any of the newer seasons since Series 8, except for a couple of episodes (I watched the one with Sam West and the one where Camille came back). I'm halfway through Series 9 at the moment so officially this is no longer a rewatch but a first-time watch.
It's interesting to see how my opinions have changed. I still think the show was strongest in relation to its core concept in Series 1 and 2. You can really tell the way they were planning the show to unfold had they managed to hold onto Ben Miller as Richard and Sara Martins as Camille, and I do really like that version of the show. But they didn't and the show had to change and that's fine. I used to be very fond of Humphrey but I found him painful in the rewatch - he hits my second-hand embarrassment squick much too hard and his unrequited love for Camille was... ah, not good? I was glad to see him go, tbh. Perhaps because of that, I appreciated Jack a whole lot more - I previously felt he didn't really have much of a character beyond "rambling Irishman" but that is really unfair. I just watched his last episode and I'm very sad to see him - I also felt his ending felt a bit... contrary to the character and the way he threw himself into island life, becoming part of the community in a way neither Richard and Humphrey never did. Neville seems a bit of a return to Richard, in that he doesn't want to be on the island, except by making him have so many medical issues, it really feels like that yeah, he really shouldn't be there.
-
Have been pondering how awesome it'd be if the next Death in Paradise detective is in the model of Vera.
-
Wallander
I needed something to watch in the space where I normally watched Vera and I remembered how I was going to try and watch some things in Swedish in effort to help myself learn Swedish better (I'm doing the Duolingo course, it's not going well), and well, this isn't in Swedish but it's set in Sweden so it might just do for now. I went... slightly insane* over it in my first and only watch but I thought I was safe now.
Yeah, well that happened again.
The thing I really like about it is Tom Hiddleston's face the way in which it spends a fair amount time of the affects of coming face-to-face with violent, brutal crime. How intensely Wallander feels everything, how involved he gets, and how all of that just means he's held at a remove from his family, friends and co-workers. He has this remarkable empathy that keeps him cut off from them.
It's also beautifully shot and I'm obsessed with the title credits.
Parts of it hold up fairly well - I feel "Faceless Killers" is still very pertinent to today, though I suspect there would a bit less... "both sidesing" within the main cast. Parts of it do not hold up well, like "One Step Behind" which, uh, is kinda extremely transphobic in a way that does not refute the transphobia.
The language and accent choices throw me occasionally in this rewatch. I think what they ended up going for is the translation trope/convention where the characters are not actually speaking English but are actually speaking Swedish, we just hear them in English, and a similar logic applies with the British vs. Swedish accents. When we see text, it's in Swedish, not English, which tends to confirm my hypothesis. Given the unlikelihood of the BBC doing the series in Swedish and the perils of getting the cast to put on an accent (no one wants to accidentally invoke the Swedish Chef in a brooding crime drama), I think this "they're speaking Swedish, we just hear it as English" thing works pretty well. But there still moments where it pulls me out of the story because the dialogue sounds so terribly British.
Random note: the cast of the first episode is like, full of pretty damn famous people? Obviously, there's Kenneth Branagh and a pre-Loki Tom Hiddleston as series regulars. Plus there's Nicholas Hoult and Rebecca Ferguson in guest roles. There's also a lot of people who are the sort of people you know for turning up in British TV shows, like Sarah Smart and Sophie Stanton (who, most memorably for me, was Falstaff and Caliban in the Donmar Warehouse's Henry IV and The Tempest).
Also, this reflection from when I first watched the show is still true. I thought I was over my Hiddleston phase but he's so fucking pretty in this show. It's distracting. It's literally sir, sir, sir, I am trying to watch Kenneth Branagh have a mental breakdown while solving crime in Sweden here. Take your cheekbones and go somewhere else.
Which he does at the end of Series 2 and then I miss him. Obviously, it doesn't impact the series that much - I enjoyed Series 3 and 4, his character isn't important to the story and isn't that interesting. But I liked the dynamics of the team and I dislike losing that (we also lose Lisa at the same time, and Ann-Britt only sticks around for a bit longer before she's gone too). I'm sad we lose that. I'm also a depraved whump lover and frankly think it was a wasted opportunity. Send Magnus off horribly (as Ann-Britt and Svedberg were sent off) and let Wallander writhe and wallow around in the guilt and grief. Also, I am completely shallow and didn't really want Hiddleston to take his cheekbones and go.
* I, uh, may have written an 87k word thing that's 3/4 whumpy fanfic and 1/4 origfic because it was November and I was doing NaNoWriMo and I was too hyped up to research and too scared to commit fully to the fanfic. I've reread and I feel like it holds up ok. I think the Kurt voice is good, as is the "gets too invested without being able to show it" thing. I am experiencing the urge to turn it into proper fanfic. I need to see how S2 ends and S3 begins but it could even work well as a "and that's where Magnus went" fic. But I don't think there's a fandom for the show outside of the migratory Hiddleston smut fandom.
-
That last point is one of those things with British crime dramas. It's quite common for some of the regular cast to leave between series and you might get a throwaway line about why they're no longer there but there's no proper send-off, no real resolution for the character, and sometimes there's no explanation. It happened in Vera, Death in Paradise, Wallander, Waking the Dead, and probably more than I just can't think of. I understand why it happens but it does make for frustrating storytelling.
The most egregious is Joe leaving Vera - he was the most important character after her! We were invested in his relationship with his family! The relationship between him and Vera was so paramount to the series! And he just disappears between series and his departure explained in a line about a "big promotion". Sure, this ties up one of the parts of his storyline quickly but there's no scene to say goodbye to him, no sense of closure. He's just gone.
-
Both Vera and Wallander are based on novels by Ann Cleeves and Henning Mankell. I've read a few novels of both series (and Cleeves's Shetland series) and I have to say... I feel the TV series really elevate them. With Wallander, maybe it's a case of a bad translation or something else but it seemed to lack something - perhaps the prose felt too simplistic or too blunt? With Cleeves, I think it's a case of has all the right elements, just doesn't have the ability to take it to the next level... I find I enjoy her novels more when I haven't seen their TV adaptation or are significantly different, but they're still not novels that I have to read. I wish the Shetland series had stuck with adapting Cleeves' novels because I'm obsessed with their first/second series (it was released as one series in Australia) which were based on the Cleeves novels, and I feel like the Shetland novels that weren't adapted would make excellent TV.
There are also four Death In Paradise spin-off novels that feature Richard - I've only read two of them and only really remember the first, which was OK - not great, not as fun as the show but still fun. It's nice to get more Richard but it comes with a trade off: Camille, Dwayne and Fidel play much, much, much smaller roles than they do in the TV series.

Thoughts While Watching Gilmore Girls, Season 1/Episode 10 ("Forgiveness and Stuff") Part 1 of 2
This one had to be split in two because Tumblr only allows you 30 pictures per post. Teehee. Wait until the Jess episodes, they'll probably be 5 parters. What happens in this episode: Christmas. Dean gets a stupid nickname from the Townies. Amy Sherman Palladino still refuses to drop this "Dean Likes To Read" utter nonsense. Lorelai doesn't bash Dean's skull in for skulking around her windows at night. Lorelai and Dean reenact Romeo and Juliet. Luke's serves hipster pizza. Richard goes to the hospital, where some sweet and emotionally touching scenes occur. Emily starts to cry and is probably confused about why her face is leaking. Lorelai buys Luke a hat and he makes her a Santa Burger.
I feel like there weren't enough Christmas-themed episodes of this show. A lot of winter-themed episodes, but not really Christmas. A Christmas day or Eve episode would have been really cute.
Tumblr media
Nightmare stuff.
Tumblr media
Adorable stuff. Doesn't anyone in Stars Hollow have jobs? What do they do all day when there's not a festival, pageant, fundraiser, or hootnanny to plan or attend?
Tumblr media
Wow, SO SAUCY. I heard the Dean fandom (????) call themselves "Narcos". The fuck is that name? "Rogan" is equally stupid (I renamed them RoryBurger, which is much better), it sounds like Rogaine or Joe Rogan. "JavaJunkie" for Luke and Lorelai is clunky, and like, who is anything BUT Team Luke & Lorelai anyway? Is there a Team Digger? Team Rachel?
But "Literati"? That one's absolutely perfect. Dean falls asleep with the town princess and the worst thing that happens to him is some townies call him "Narcolepsy Boy"? Again, let this happen with Jess and see how he would fare. I really need to give a name to this "Re-imagine this scenario with Jess in Dean's shoes because Jess could never get away with anything Dean does" line of thought. The Mariano-Forester Paradox? Okay, we'll go with that for now. I doubt that's the correct use of the word "Paradox" but bear with me. Rory: I haven't spoken to Dean in four days. I told him not to call. Lane: Didn't he listen? Rory: No (smiles) Lane: Good boy. Ehhhh??
Tumblr media
How many times must I plead for the writers of this show to finally drop this "Dean loves to read" thing! It makes no sense and I'm over it! For the love of crackers... Lane: "Just imagine that you gave Dean smething really romantic, and he gave you...a football." Okay but a football would be way more romantic than a piece of spare change on a string.
Tumblr media
I love this outfit/jewelry/hair on Alexis. She looks really pretty.
Tumblr media
Scanning for any interesting ornaments on the Gilmore tree, but only the "No Pouting" one stands out.
Tumblr media
Lorelai is eating a SALAD? Willingly? This is highly unusual.
Tumblr media
That's slightly more believable Lorelai Behavior. I guess the punch line is that she's supposed to be depressed because she couldn't get a pizza delivered, so she resorts to eating a salad, but why did she have it in the house in the first place?
Tumblr media
A faint knocking is heard. Lorelai looks up from her depression salad...
Tumblr media
She gets up to investigate... the knocking continues...
Tumblr media
OMG WHAT THE HELL!!!!
Tumblr media
Like something out of Romeo and Fucking Juliet.
We are about to witness one of the first and most nauseating scenes out of the Dean and Lorelai Affair (henceforth known as DALA), that thing where Dean does or says something creepy, inappropriate, hurtful, annoying or weird, and Lorelai's reaction to it is...very sus. I CANNOT be the only one who sees this...and thankfully I know I'm not, I think most people just don't want to admit it, lol. Lorelai engages Dean in gentle conversation, instead of grabbing a blunt instrument & striking him unconcious. The Mariano-Forrester Paradox is in play. Jess pulled something similar at Lane's house, but Mrs. Kim actually had the appropriate reaction, which was to grab a weapon. This even outcreeps that time Jess emerged from the bushes in Emily's driveway at night in Season 6 (to which Rory only reacted with mild surprise and didn't hop back in her car and run him over). Can the boys on this show stop being so creepy please?!
Tumblr media
I feel like there is some sort of cosmic justice behind the fact that Lorelai spent years touting the Virtues of Dean Forrester while panicking whenever Jess breathed around Rory, only for Jess and Rory to never actually have sex but a married Dean ends up taking her daughter's virginity. Honestly, a smile creeps onto my face when I imagine how everything eventually backfires in Lorelai's face. (Not to mention the cosmic justice of Jess eventually becoming her literal family. I hope she likes being called Auntie Lorelai).
Tumblr media
Nah, she's about a minute away from inviting you in for a cup of cocoa with little marshmallows in it and a snuggle on the couch.
Tumblr media
He's such a dickhead when he does this thing where he talks over Lorelai like he's not a fucking 17 year old kid talking to someone's mother. "You can hate me if you want." Good, no one asked. Shut up.
Tumblr media
Lies, lies, lies. Dean:"She'll go to Harvard, and if she doesn't, it won't be because of me."
Tumblr media
Yes, Mr "Oh, it's about Harvard, excuse me, I forgot!" has always been very supportive of Rory's dreams. Why is Lorelai STILL having a gentle little conversation with this creepwad through the window? Slam the window down on his fucking fingers, Lorelai! DO IT! Lorelai & Dean continue to flirt for the next several minutes.
Tumblr media
"I wuv you Boo Bear."
Tumblr media
Lorelai, I notice you still aren't listening to me. You're letting him leave without smashing the window down on his head or at least his fingers. Can we have a word? I say this as your staunch ally in Season 1, Rory: I'm gravely concerned that your mother wants to have an affair with your teenage boyfriend. Or already is. Lorelai (Gently): Dean, we have a really nice front door. You should use it sometime. Lorelai to Jess In The Same Situation: You know, we have a really nice front door. I may or may not have booby trapped it. Just curious, are you scared of pirahnas? Good luck.
Tumblr media
Here's a terrible joke I made up all by myself: Why is Santa Claus a better man than Jess Mariano's father? Because Jess held out hope that Santa would visit him once a year.
You're sad now. I'm sorry. I read a story once that imagined Jess was born on Christmas Eve and Liz tried to name him Jesus but forgot the U on the birth certificate. Part 2 of this review will be posted soon!

for the ask game: twd, fear and world beyond :)
GIVE ME A TV SERIES AND I'LL TELL YOU....
TWD
Favorite character: Alden, Sasha, Aaron
Funniest character: Eric is the first person that comes to mind (I love when he's petty<3) but I'm blanking on everyone else
Best-looking character: Magna, Siddiq
3 favorite ships: Aaron/Eric, Denise/Tara, and the most unpopular opinion of all but Rosita/Gabriel is So special to me. Honorable mention to Elijah and Lydia, I know their development happens in the background but the parallels between them are so loud anyway and those last few episodes really got me.
Least favorite character: N*gan
Least favorite ship:  Lori and Sh*ne, get him away from her
Reason why I watch it: I know most people hate the bloated cast but I love it for that reason. I favor the later half of the series when there are so many different communities intricately linked, it makes for some really fun dynamics everywhere and there will really never be another show that gives you that
Why I started watching it: I basically had to bully myself into liking apocalypse shows (which is so ironic now because... my favorite things). I tried once and didn't make it past the pilot but then I picked it up a few years later (when season 9 was airing) and got hooked
FTWD
Favorite character: Grace
Funniest character: I'm blanking 😔
Best-looking character: Luciana
3 favorite ships: Grace/Morgan, Sherry/Dwight, Al/Isabelle
Least favorite character: Troy
Least favorite ship:  I'm mostly blanking on every other ship in this show but actually the first one that comes to mind is Charlie (a 12 year old) and that 16 year old 🧍‍♂️ why'd they do my girl like that
Reason why I watch it: I don't always love the plot but I do love the characters so I've been holding on for them
Why I started watching it: I think I might've watched a few episodes of this before I ever started TWD but I was bored... I started again at season 4 because I heard about Al and I loved the concept of a journalist still interviewing people in the apocalypse, then I eventually went back to watch it all.
WB
Favorite character: Iris and Leo are tied but Hope, Felix, Huck, and Silas are sooo close behind.
Funniest character: Elton maybe
Best-looking character: Sorry to be a Joe Holt stan but ♡ Leo
3 favorite ships: Felix/Will, Iris/Percy, Huck/Dennis
Least favorite character: This is one of the rare shows that I love love love every single character so it's really hard to answer this so. I guess Jadis because I have the least connection to her. Everyone else is my family <3
Least favorite ship:  I don't think I really have an answer for this because I liked all the established ships... I think Lyla/Leo were cute even though she was betraying him :( so I guess them for technical purposes.
Reason why I watch it: People call it a "teen drama" but I think it's much more aligned with "family drama." At its core its entirely about FAMILY! And the family dynamics in this show are so incredible. The complex siblings, complex friendships, putting your entire trust in someone that's inevitably going to betray you, it's so good to me. I also think coming of age in the apocalypse is a really fun story to tell, especially since these people have lived in the apocalypse for 10 years but haven't actually experienced it. People who hate this show are boring <3
Why I started watching it: I had basically just finished watching TWD for the first time when this show was announced so I was excited to see it from the start, and the premise of it all sounded really fun and I was sooo sad when the premiere got pushed back like... a year. This show is my best friend now.

The time has come!!!! To watch the final four episodes of the Flash. Starting here with episode 10. I've currently got some tasty pizza but I may make some popcorn later. Will definitely have to resist the urge to throw the popcorn at the screen because my house is soooo dusty right now. (mid home-reno, at the point where all the big stuff is done and everything is now covered in a thick layer of drywall dust and i will literally be dusting the house over this for weeks to come)
The opening with Eddie is cute. Looks like 'Malcolm' is a research scientist? Since, from what spoilers I've seen, the N!SF is what resurrected Eddie, I have to wonder if the Malcolm persona was crafted to fit what Eobard wished Eddie was like. The N!SF has been retconned so much since it was first mentioned, but it started as an artificial speed force the Eobard created and it took Eobard as its first avatar. So it'd make sense if it was trying to remake Eddie in an image more pleasing to Eobard...
Still, it's too bad Malcolm isn't a separate character from Eddie.
Lol, Allegra as Rainbow Brite. I do find that hilarious. And the suit is awful.
Chester is no Cisco when it comes to super suits, that's for sure. How about calling up Ryan. He's not as good at is as Cisco, but he's not rainbow bathrobe bad at it.
I still think Cecile should have moved with Joe and Jenna. She's a great lawyer when the show remembers that she's a lawyer, but there's a lot of tell-not-show going on with her being a super hero and she seems happiest when she's with Joe and Jenna. This season's biggest problem, I think, is that it hasn't handled juggling the main cast well and, much as I like Cecile... I think that having her go into semi-retirement with Joe would have been a good choice. She still could have been commuting for her defense lawyer practice, giving us that one episode with Becky, but otherwise it would have been one less character to juggle and opened up the opportunity for Barry and Iris to raise Nora in the same house they were raised in.
Khione's place is very plant-filled. And I love that she's named them all. She's definitely leveled up on her powers since last we saw her and I like that she writes her diary entries as letters to her sisters, Caitlin and Frost. I still don't know what her purpose is because she hasn't done anything that couldn't have been easily handed off to someone else, so... *shrug* I've given up on the idea that she has an actual purpose that only she can do - you know, right hero at the right time - at this point. Still, very sweet.
Also did she have to look at the camera directly while talking about Blaine?
Iris - Since when do you do things last minute. Me - Where have you been? This man is your husband, sweetie. If he isn't doing something last minute, then he's doing it five minutes late.
Pulitzer nomination!!!! YAY!!! Go Iris!!!!
It's 'cobalt' blue energy that takes Barry to the past. I like the person who walks by cupping a cd player in their hands. That's so funny, but very 2000.
Oh!!! the laundry van!!! reference to the pilot episode!!! love it :D
Barry being an awkward duck with not-yet-Captain Singh. David is going to remember this one day and wonder. Anywho, love that Barry's first instinct is to go to Joe for help when he can't get back home. Not surprising it doesn't work out - you're a stranger to him now, Barry - but still.
Next try, Professor Stein. Who, given the time travel shenanigans he's already played with his own timeline at this point, would probably believe Barry a little more easily. But still not surprising he didn't believe him over the phone. Bet if Barry had shown up in person and started talking about the Legends, that would have gone better.
Of course, Barry then sees his parents. And just. Gets so focused that the Reverse Flash blindsides him. Love that Henry saves Barry from being killed. Nora's first thought at seeing Barry is 'he looks just like my father'. Their shared concern about Barry even though he's just some stranger... it's good to finally see the people who raised Barry before Joe. And that Barry's kindness towards strangers and sense of duty to help is something that is as much from them as from Joe.
Henry - I'm Dr. Allen and this is my wife Nora and we were first on the scene after your accident. Barry - *internally freaking out because he loves his parents but he knows his mom is gonna die soon and his dad will go to prison and he wants to save them, knows he can't, and doesn't want to fuck up the timeline again because he actually didn't intentionally time travel for a change* O_O Umm.... hi... I'm... Bart.
Barry calling himself Bart will never not be funny to me.
Nora - Can we call family or friends for you? Barry - *No mom, you can't call yourself, sorry* Nope.
Gosh, I do love Henry and Nora so much. They save this guy on the street, take him to the hospital, and insist on taking him out for pizza. Knowing they're such kind and helpful people really highlights what a tragedy what happens to them are because... how many people would they have tried to help if Nora had lived and Henry hadn't spent fifteen years in jail? Not with super powers but with just kindness and an insistence on helping the people around them.
Joe and David wanting to help Barry now too. :D Mysterious voice growls Joe's name and there's a blue crystal that... possess Joe? Well. Would you call that shade of blue... cobalt? *snicker*
Nora - Well, what about your family? Where are they? Barry - *AWKWARD* They died.
Again. Nora and Henry being so very, very kind to Barry. Giving him something he's missed for so long. And he can't accept their offer to stay with them, much as he wants to.
Matt!Eobard shows up, with the ominous helicoptor noises! Of course Barry assumes this whole setup is his fault. But it isn't.
Barry could be having a nice evening with his parents, instead he's at a bar with the guy who is an evening away from causing Barry's childhood PTSD. And Eobard laying out the situation is interesting because there are more options than Eobard mentions and he genuinely doesn't realize that. It's just... kind of fascinating for Barry to see what's happening from the point of view of knowing how this will turn out in the end.
For Barry to have the life that Eobard is threatening to take away... he does kind of have to let Eobard win. Just not in the way that Eobard intends to at that moment.
Barry going back to Henry's office right as Henry and Nora at talking about how they wish they could have helped him... do love that timing. :D
Barry getting to tell his parents that their love made him who he is even now, so many years after their deaths... even if they don't realize his words really are for them. Very sweet.
Uh-oh, growling voice is back. I suspect it's trying to stop Barry from getting to Eobard in time to save mini-Barry from Eobard's evil plans. Though that begs the question of why it brought Barry back in time in the first place.
Joe - Hey, so I know everything. Barry - Oh? Not even gonna question this. Help me Joe.
Waiting since the dawn of time, huh? So if the N!SF's main color is red, then why is it using blue now instead?
I like the doctor who takes charge when the hospital is damaged - she's my hero now. Oh gosh, she's Ramsey Rosso's mother. Now his disdain towards his mother for dying of HLH pisses me off even more. Dr. Rachel Rosso was an amazing woman.
Seriously, why is the N!SF's main color suddenly blue????
Barry - I'm not here to save myself. I'm here to save you. Eobard - Bullshit. *it's in his eyes, okay???*
Oh yeah, he's not here to save himself. He just... carries himself... out... of the building.
Though I do appreciate Barry risks his own timeline to offer Eobard the chance to do the right thing. But Eobard can't see beyond his own ego to realize that Barry already knows what will happen if Eobard goes through with his plan.
And I do love that we finally get to have Eobard call himself the hero and Barry the villain. Eobard cannot see beyond his own selfishness to realize that not only is he the bad guy, but that he's the bad guy because of his own actions. Even in his personal future when he 'embraces' being the bad guy, Eobard still thinks that it's all Barry's fault and the real villain is Barry even if no one sees it.
And there's the big fight. S1 Barry!!!! aww, back when his suit looked like actual protective gear and not a Halloween costume made of moisture wicking fabric.
Eobard - OH NO NOT THE CONSEQUENCES OF MY ACTIONS CATCHING UP TO ME!!!! Barry - Told you so. Also thanks for the catharsis, asshole.
lol
Back to Malcolm!Eddie. Who gets the classic struck by lighting of destiny, but it's red. Like the N!SF usually is but hasn't been all episode - see this is why changing the color coding for the N!SF to blue suddenly was bad. Consistency is important!!
And apparently the N!SF can transport objects because it also brought Malcolm!Eddie a police dossier. On Eddie Thawne.
That was actually a really strong opening episode for the finale. I am glad that they're closing the loop before the end of the show. That said, I'm not sure how I feel about it being one of the focuses of the series finale. It's appropriate to revisit what started it all at the end of the show, but at the same time there's been an obsession with Nora's death throughout the whole show that, at this point, it does also feel like they're beating a dead horse. But I'm not sure when else in the show it might have gone... unless they'd done Savitar as the Flash from the timeline Eobard came from where Nora didn't die with Savitar causing Flashpoint towards the end of S3 instead of Barry causing it at the end of S2, but I've got a post about that fanfic idea somewhere. (I actually really want to write that at some point.)
The fact that this was such a well written and paced episode makes me worried the rest of the episodes aren't going to live up to it. Because I've been watching this whole season and, uh, this quality of episode really isn't what the season's average has looked like.
Getting a glimpse of the N!SF's personality here does make me wonder just how much it may have warped Eobard's mind already by the time Barry first met him. Or if its personality was modeled off it's creator and it merely encouraged Eobard's worst traits. This Barry knows Eobard is capable of choosing to be a good person and caring about other people beyond his own selfishness, which is why I think Barry gave him the warning even knowing Eobard wouldn't take it. He still wanted to give that part of Eobard that genuinely wants to be a hero a chance to be one. Given what spoilers tell me the N!SF is gonna do to Eddie, I can't discount the idea that Eobard might have turned out very different as a speedster without the N!SF's corruption - and I think maybe Barry wonders that now too, having spoken to the N!SF directly through its possession of Joe.
That said, I do enjoy Eobard being an entitled asshole who cannot see beyond his own ego and cannot conceive of being wrong. We got a glimpse here of Eobard back when the character was still well written and fascinating to watch because he is a genius but his blind spots are so obvious to everyone but him. So when his well thought out plan falls apart, he doesn't see why until it smacks him in the face.
Anyway, one episode down and three to go.

The obsession
⚠️TW OBSESSIVE BEHAVIOR STALKING POSSESSIVE BEHAVIOR STOCKHOLM SYNDROME MANIPULATION ABUSIVE BEHAVIOR AND DRUGGING DO NOT DO ANY OF THIS ITS NOT HEALTHY ⚠️
   . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Honestly moth just debated whether or not to go to the cafe today. They were tired, annoyed and still reeling after the news. They still didn't know who to believe so they decided to man up a little bit and get ready to go to the cafe. It has been tradition every Saturday that they would go to this little cafe in order to get their drink and favorite cookie. They got up and got  on their favorite outfit: a fishnet undershirt, a purple shirt with a small cut where the chest was supposed to be denim pants and some platforms that brought them up to 5'5. To be honest they only started dressing like this to scare off what they assumed was a stalker but then they fell in love with the fashion and continued dressing like this honestly they felt more confident and happy. Normally they wouldn't feel this confidence but they do. Just in case they grabbed a sweatshirt they know how weird the weather can be where they live so they had to take precautions.
They started walking all the way to the cafe since it was a pretty short walk only 10 minutes so might as well get some exercise in. Since it really isn't boxing season yet they had to get some exercise in. They walked along the sidewalk until they finally got to their favorite Cafe place. It was a small town where everyone knew everyone so their order was practically ready as they walked in. They smile looking around at everyone, noticing some regulars and Irregulars. Finally, recognizing someone's very cute outfit they instantly recognized her " Mika Star as I live and breathe how have you been" Mika turned around and smiled "Moth! I'm doing great what about you"
Moth smiled getting in line with Mika " better than a few months ago" Mika nodded but there is still a question that was itching her brain "... so how are your feelings about Joe right now" moth Paws for a few seconds before shrugging " I'm pretty conflicted I do really like him but I don't know who to believe I'm really good friends with Bates and he says that Joe is just like Paparazzi well Joe thinks this is creepy I'm just confused" Mika looked away and thought back to when Joe was alone with Moth he seemed….
U n s t a b l e
She quickly shook it off and went back to talking to moth, quickly changing the subject " so you dyed your hair again!" Moth smiled happy that someone noticed the new color they decided " oh yeah I was surprised that I didn't pick purple the first time since it's my favorite color but I decided to go with a simple color at first but now I decided to go with purple I might dye the ends of my hair next time"
" Maybe I can help?"
"Hell yea!"
Moth smiled before turning around feeling like someone was watching them only seeing a weird figure with a hood and sunglasses on they couldn't really tell but the person's hair seemed to be sticking out almost like it was styled in that way and the color of the hair seemed to be orange. They didn't want to think about it; they were just hoping that their stalker wasn't back. It just seemed weird after the news that they were on edge. They may be a little oblivious and on the Dixie side but they're smart to some extent.
" Hey Moth, I can take your order!"
"OK, coming dad!" They immediately walked over to their dad smiling at the fact that their dad finally got a job that he somewhat enjoyed. " okay Little Rock Star the usual caramel frappuccino with extra caramel and a shot of chocolate sauce and a chocolate chip cookie?" Moths smiled almost immediately widened " you know me too well pops"
" Little Rock Star you order the same thing every time"
They both laughed before Anton handed them their number moth sat down at their usual table and pulled out their phone and started playing some games. Mostly for them to be distracted but this time they saw someone start to walk up to them they didn't recognize this person but they might as well get ready to talk to them as this person. As they were getting closer moth noticed it was Joseph. Their faces immediately flushed up and they looked up at him as he put down his hood he smiled " bonjour can I sit here?" Moth for getting everything that had happened instantly nodded and their face immediately turned bright red as did his face but it seemed like he was covering up his mouth it seemed like he was smiling so wide his jaw would come off. There were a few moments of Silence before  moth heard their number and quickly got up shooood good get that!" They immediately did finger guns before turning around and slapping themselves in the face. They grab their coffee and their cookies and sit down by Joe, still embarrassed by the idiocy that they did. Again there was a long pause. It was a little creepy but they didn't really care. Joe kind of cleared his throat and smiled " I'm doing our project and I'm taking pictures of beautiful and unique things. I was wondering if you want to be my human part of the segment?"
Moth almost immediately turned bright red. " You think I'm beautiful and unique?"
This was almost like a dream they felt so happy that they could die  " I think that you're quite beautiful" moth smiles and immediately nodded allowing him to take a few pictures they couldn't see it at the time but it seemed like he was drooling and his stare was almost like a predator. But it seemed like their happiness was drowning out everything. Joe took a bunch of pictures he only stopped when he felt like it was necessary. He looked down going through all the photos that he took. They were all so beautiful. He looked up at his model and noticed that they were drinking something sweet. He usually got something bitter at this Cafe but they liked their coffee sweet. It seemed like he was taking a mental note of this situation. He finally stepped up from the table and smiled " thank you very much for being my model" he said before walking away smiling wide.
He took a mental note of the situation they were oblivious to that was almost too perfect although he loved them he had to admit they were bit of an idiot. He continued scanning through the photos before he got up to his door and smiled. He walked up to his room and placed camera down on a little podium before he turned around and placed something down in what seems to be a shrine of some sort; he seemed to have thousands, maybe Millions of moths. I love the things were really affordable some boxing figures that the wvba held shirts Etc but some were interesting he smiled picking up one of the many things that he took from their room it seemed to be an old shirt warm it was used you didn't care about the context of what he did he didn't care if it was considered creepy. This was true love and he knew he was always the romantic type. He just wanted little bits and pieces of them whenever they were away it physically hurt him whenever he had to see them go. He just loves them too much.
He picked up his camera again and walked over to his computer plugging in his camera and hooking it up to his printer he started printing out the pictures he was way too happy about this it was all too perfect of course they liked him who didn't he was perfect they were perfect they would be the perfect couple and no one would get in their way. And he would make sure of it; he just needed to think of a way that wasn't getting his hands dirty. But what wouldn't get his hands dirty he couldn't simply just kill them he had to get rid of them they were disgusting competition they were always fighting for their attention when it should be all on him he continued to think until he thought of an idea.
As the pictures were loading he thought to himself how could he be so dumb normally he's not like this but this idea was brilliant. No one would even suspect it's him. It was almost too perfect.
" what's more clean than a suicide!"
He truly was a genius. He needs to give himself more credit. Of course he would think of this brilliant idea who else but Joseph Blanchet. He should have  himself more credit; he was truly a smart man and he knew it. He continued to watch the photos printed before he took out one that was a very close up of mom's face. They were smiling and they were looking at him and only him. He couldn't help himself but he kissed the picture. It was almost like it was them but he wished he could have kissed them in real life. He knows how silky smooth those lips are and how sweet they must have tasted. How they would squirm beneath him, how he Towers over them. How he could simply just kill them if he wanted to.
He quickly snapped himself out of it; he could never kill them. They were too precious to perfect. He needed them to be his perfect wife who else but moth moth was too perfect for everyone else but just perfect for him.
But still the idea of hurting them excited him although he hates you admit it he liked hurting people. He was a bit of a sadist and it showed whenever he would box he would purposely be violent and that unfortunately resulted in the death of a useless boxer. He was nothing but scum to be honest he talked to moth flirted with them and he got rid of competition although this resulted in termination of a contract with the wbva he was able to sweet talk his way into keeping his locker. He was smart and he knew it he truly didn't care though everyone was useless unless they were proven to be useful.
And he will use useful people until they are useless.
He smiled, finally pinning the poster to a cork board there was a collage of pictures. It was almost perfect, the one thing it was missing.
Was them.

QUICK QUESTION. SO I DECIDED TO TAKE A LOOK AT THE DUB AND IT.. IT SURE IS. i gotta know now are there any particularly noteworthy episodes in terms of the dub being. whatever is going on here.
There aren't any episodes that really stand out for being different (except those that remove scenes like the kid in the Borg dungeon). I think the biggest changes are in the tournament arcs with the commentators (the "I'm Braaaaad Best" line lives in my head rent free, as does the question of "what were they riding back at the hotel?"), and the Europe arc for what it did with the monsters (their curse was changed so that they'd get their souls back if the Euro team was defeated). Also any episodes featuring Takao's grandfather have 10x more epic swag in the dub
The way sacred beasts work is fundamentally changed. Everyone can see them and they're accepted as being part of the sport. It still seems unfair that most bladers don't have them, but it's less than when most don't even know they exist
V-Force did away with Takao's casual misogyny and replaced it with him being mad at Hiromi for trying to lecture the world champions on a topic she has no experience with
G-Revolution did away with most of the slapstick involving Hiromi and Daichi (as well as Daichi exclusively referring to Hiromi as an old hag)
There is a movie that takes place between V-Force and G-Revolution, but it didn't get dubbed umtil after G-Rev, and the dub used child actors, so some characters have much deeper voices than you'd expect
The metal saga dub was pretty faithful to the original. Character name changes were just different spellings to match the English pronounciation better. Some beys and special moves had their names changed, but it wasn't really consistent (Killer Gemios becomes Evil Gemios, but Beautiful Dead stays the same, as does dialogue involving death). The dub is worth watching for certain characters (Tetsuya, Doji, and Sakyo), but Ginga's dub voice becomes so grating over time that I cannot recommend it (subs are hard to come across, so the dub may be the only way to watch it)
4d/Metal Fury had some production issues, causing the second half of the season to be shortened, resulting in 26 20-minute episodes and 26 10-minute episodes. The dub would air the shorter episodes back to back as a single episode, with the whole season being 39 episodes long
Zero-G/Shogun Steel also had 52 10-minute episodes, which the dub turned into 26 20-minute episodes. The last few episodes in Japanese are lost, so for Shogun Steel the dub is probably necessary
The Burst dub is just the same as the original but with name changes and censorship. Besides some good voice acting (Ranjiro, Hyde, and Joe), I can't recommend it over subs
There's also the Nelvana spinoffs. For Beywheelz and Beyraiderz, a Japanese dub existed, but is considered lost and the English dub is the only way to watch it. Beywarriors Cyborg only has some English episodes available, and no one seems to have subbed it in English, so I watched it with Chinese subs and Google Translate. I can't say how much the dubs differ because I can't find them

3, 20, 22, 24!
Quick warning, this is probably gonna turn into a ramble about my hyperfixations! Question 22 is under the read more section and will contain spoilers for Telltale's The Walking Dead. Question 24 will also be under the read more, because I want to post some pictures with and and also this post is getting a little long 😅
3. 1-3 games you’ve played in the past 12 months that you really enjoyed
First! Your Turn to Die: Death Game By Majority. January 2022, my best friend came to my room and told me that we were going to play this together, a game at the time I had heard of but didn't really think was my thing, and I'm so glad they did because my god do I love this game so much. It's a horror adventure game where you play as Sara Chidouin who, alongside her best friend Joe and 9 strangers, finds herself in a death game where they will all be voting for who will die. I highly, highly reccomend this game if you find the concept interesting at all, especially because it's free. There's a Steam release coming soon (which I think is coming along with the last part of the game), but right now you can download and play for free or even play it in browser.
Second! The Great Ace Attorney Chronicles! I finally branched out from just the original Ace Attorney trilogy and I'm enjoying it! I'm currently on the 5th case of the 1st game and genuinely I missed playing Ace Attorney. Ryunosuke very quickly became another favourite messy... I would say lawyer but he isn't a lawyer for the first three cases so he became that slowly. But jokes aside, I love all the characters and also it was really fun to (by coincidence) read the Sherlock Holmes The Adventure of the Speckled Band a few days after playing the case inspired by it and retroactively realising they joke about the solution of the book in the game.
And third! The Dark Pictures: The Devil in Me! I love The Dark Pictures games and this one has my favourite type of character in it: mean lebsian! So clearly it's a 10/10 best game!
20. A boss you think is really cool
I don't play a lot of games with boss fights but I really like the Mr. Freeze boss fight from Batman: Arkham City! I think the concept of a boss literally adapting to what you do so it won't work on them anymore is awesome, even if it wouldn't work outside of the more stealth focused boss like this one. I don't actually remember if I've ever played this boss fight (gonna be honestly, I cannot remember the sequence of events in Arkham City, other than the Catwoman sections), but I have a distinct memory of watching my dad play this fight. He tried to do the same thing twice, and when it didn't work was genuinely shocked because he didn't think the game meant it. And honestly that memory stuck in my head.
22. A game ending that’s really stuck with you
So I thought about this for a little while, because there's a couple of different game endings that I think about a lot but there's only one ending that legitimately made me nervous to replay a play with my bff and that is Telltale's The Walking Dead Season 2. It made me turn Jane from a character that was kind of okay to one of, if not my most hated character from a video game; and god was I really scared to play season two with my friend for fear of them really loving Jane (note: they did not, they also do not like Jane).
To give a little context: I played Episode 5 when it went live, like 11pm at night, achievements still not unlockable. And I was excited. By the time of the finale of the episode, I had already cried once (damn beautiful Lee dream sequence) and was not ready for the baby to be dead. I was not ready for the fight between Kenny and Jane and like, gonna be fully honestly, the first time I played I shot Kenny. I shot my 4th favourite character from the series and cried and had a tearful goodbye. And then the baby started crying.
I think this is the biggest betrayal I'd ever felt in a video game. Like to this day, I really can't gel with the idea of leaving a baby in a car in a snowstorm in a zombie apocolaypse to prove a point. I think it's genuinely very messed up and could never really fathom the idea of staying with Jane after that.
I played through the Alone with AJ ending, though I liked both the Kenny endings a lot more and ended up getting an ending with him when I did my replay for achievements.
Being fully honest, I think this ending stuck with me not just because it made me just so angry with a fictional character but because it seems to come so out of nowhere for it to be Jane. Like I fully expected an ending fight with Kenny and Luke, but then it just isn't.
24. A game with a cool art style
Firstly! Darkest Dungeon! The first one, though I do also think the second one looks really cool, I just personally prefer 2d artstyles. I think this game is beautiful and frankly just looks how a game about gothic and cosmic horror should.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
And second! Your Turn to Die (again). I think it has a kind of rough start art wise (like there is some very ugly pixel art in the first half an hour), but once it gets going, it kind of feels like playing a manga. Like there's some screens I would love to show, but they are definitely spoilers and, as much as I really want to make a full post just rambling about this game, I don't really wanna spoil the game when I don't have to. ((Also all my saves for this game are on my friend's laptop and I'm not playing a couple hours for one screenshot))

The Flash Season 1 - Retrospective Review
So I started watching The Flash from scratch again. With Season 9 on the horizon sometime in 2023, I figure I will slowly work myself through the rest of the show. Watching season 1 of the show again reminded me of how good it was. I am not of the opinion that The Flash has become a bad show now. But I admit that Season 1 is probably still its strongest season and the rewatch affirmed that to me.
In all honesty, season 1 of The Flash is definitely the single best season in the Arrowverse. That includes S&L seasons, Arrow season 2, Legends season 3 onwards etc... Everyone obviously has their favorite shows so this is obviously a subjective opinion. But in my mind, The Flash season 1 is right up there with the best seasons of superhero tv, and its even more impressive given its a full 23 episode season while other great seasons of tv like seasons of The Boys, WandaVision, or Peacemaker are under 10 episodes. Daredevil, arguably my favorite streaming superhero show, clocked at 13 episodes.
Everything in season 1 felt very fresh and I think one of the most appealing things for me in season 1 is watching a very vulnerable hero at work. I mean, coming into The Flash, a lot of network heroes on the CW like Clark in Smallville, Oliver in Arrow, Sam and Dean from Supernatural etc... were all pretty tough men, sharpened through hardship. So even though all had moments of vulnerability, they were all characters who would brush it off and move on. But what was interesting about Barry was that he was genuinely very young, and while he had experienced a giant tragedy, his life outside of those events were still positive. He was a bright young man, in a supportive environment. So when he's faced with enormous challenges, he is not as sharpened and toughened like the heroes I mentioned above. He behaves a lot more like I would believe a regular person to. That's what made the character relatable to me. Frankly, this was true with a lot of the supporting cast as well. Cisco and Caitlin felt very realistic as characters. Not heroes independently just yet, just nerdy scientists. Joe West was a new creation in this show that doesn't exist in the comics and that character was a masterstroke and helped provide so much heart. He was the everyman amidst the unbelievable. This is true with other characters like Iris and Eddie and Ronnie and Martin Stein etc...
I think another thing that really worked for me is the tone. Season 1 managed to balance humor and drama incredibly well. The show embraced the fun of having powers like Barry had. Again, this added to the relatable quality of the characters and the show. The way people reacted to the events, felt quite real. And Barry's joy was quite infectious. But the show also didn't shirk away from drama. 'The Man in the Yellow Suit', 'Out of Time', and 'Fast Enough' are three of the most dramatic episodes of the season, dealing with quite a bit of drama and emotion, but they are all incredible and amongst my favorite episodes of the show. But the season also embraced the fun in episodes like the crossover Flash vs Arrow. There are just some memorably fun episodes, like Crazy for You with the hilarious Karaoke scene.
The villains were initially a little weak. Certainly in early episodes with characters like the first Weather Wizardd, Multiplex, Kyle Nimbus, and Farooq, but they did improve as the season went on. There were a few excellent casting decisions, like Wentworth Miller as Captain Cold, Dominic Purcell as Heat Wave, and Peyton List as Golden Glider. Mark Hamill returning from the 90's Flash series to play the Trickster was glorious. Hartley Rathaway was a pretty good villain as was the 2nd Weather Wizard. We also had Grodd, which was not something I expected to see executed on the show. But they were very smart with how they peppered him throughout the season and gave him an episode late in the season. Clancy Brown as Wade Eiling was another piece of excellent casting. It's a pity they never brought him back after the first season because he would have been a great recurring government foe. It has to be said that it can be argued that the best solo episode villains were all brought about in the first season itself.
Obviously, in a 23 episode season, not everything works perfectly. There are certainly some episodes that are a bit weaker than others and certain relationship dynamics that don't work. A couple of the early episodes has the show still ironing out the kinks. I think they perhaps overplayed their hand with Harrison Wells a bit when he killed Simon Stagg in just the 2nd episode, because that did make him very obviously villainish. Also, one of the key aspects of the season was the whole Barry and Iris one sided romance thing. 'All Star Team Up' was not as fun as it should have been. I'll be honest, I don't think the show has ever been able to properly nail down the WestAllen relationship and some of the issues come from the first season. I think Candice Patton is great but the character is written a bit flaky at times and she just isn't able to find the right fit in the show which is a problem the show has struggled with all its 8 seasons. I do think they should have continued the path of her being a reporter at an established newspaper and moving up the ranks, which would have felt more realistic than what they ended up doing eventually. Eddie Thawne was a character that initially felt a bit of a bore but the show figured out what to do with the character midway through the show and he became immensely more likable. One of my issues with WestAllen also became that I quite liked the Eddie and Iris relationship by end of season, to the point where I didn't really root for WestAllen that much. Also, Barry suddenly changing his opinion on Wells felt a little abrupt. I think it would have been a bit more plausible if his opinion had changed in the Trickster episode as opposed to the previous episode.
The casting of the main characters were all terrific. As I mentioned earlier, despite my issues with the character, Candice Patton was terrific as Iris. Rick Cosnett was excellent as Eddie, particularly in the back half of the season where he was more than just the stock boyfriend character. His death scene is definitely one of the powerful moments in the finale. Jesse L. Martin was outstanding as Joe. You can tell what a seasoned actor he is. Carlos Valdes does a lot of heavy lifting when it comes to the humor on the show but he showed himself to be equally adept at doing drama. Danielle Panabaker was wonderful. Incredibly appealing and her dynamic with Cisco is great. The whole Barry/Cisco/Caitlin nerd trio was one of my favorite parts of the first season. They all had excellent chemistry with another. It was a masterstroke to bring John Wesley Shipp as Henry Allen. A casting decision that has benefited the show throughout its run. Robbie Amell and Victor Garber were very welcome additions to the Arrowverse. As was Matt Letscher as OG Thawne.
But unarguably the two lynchpins of the first season were Grant Gustin and Tom Cavanaugh. Tom Cavanaugh as Thawne is still the best single season villain the show has had. And while he has returned many times since then, season 1 is still the highwater mark. I think it's because Thawne is such a layered character. He is bad guy but his motivations are very identifiable. He somehow manages to blend and inherent creepiness with a certain likability. He has many moments of dry humor but also fantastic dramatic moments. It's a brilliant performance and he executed the wolf in sheep's clothing character to perfection. This was also a case of hero and villain performances going brilliantly toe to toe with Grant Gustin just blowing away expectations as Barry Allen. Grant has me already invested in his two episode appearance in Arrow season 2, but he had me hooked from the scene in the pilot where he meets his father in prison. Grant Gustin's ability to show vulnerability was one of his best strengths but he also imbues the character with a lot of lightness and joy. He is just immensely likable and even when Barry does bone headed things, you are always on his side thanks to Grant. Grant and Tom facing off in these roles have always led to some of the best moments. Also, Grant absolutely owns the finale. The scene where he talks to his Mom is phenomenal acting.
All in all, this was just an excellent season of television and I had a lot of fun watching it. Arguably one of the most important seasons of tv for the Arrowverse because its success introduced the idea of time travel which fed into Legends of Tomorrow and the success of the first crossover led the way to a huge part of the success of the Arrowverse for the next 8 years. All in all, a 9/10 season.

Okay so now that I've officially seen everyone in their full form, I have a better view on them as people. Also I need something to distract me from the heartbreaking shit I just watched so here are my ep 1 rankings:
1. Ameerah- I know I'm blind bc my Maryland heart swells, but she's been serving. Ik a strategic queen when I see one <3
2. Taylor- I'm starting to really like her. She's strategic, a real player, a feminist icon? I'm in.

I HAVE RETURNED
I make my dramatic turn to say since the last post I made, I've been through a shit storm of a year. BUT THATS NOT STOPPING ME. Let's talk some Toku real quick!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Tumblr media
TIGA MY NEW BELOVED
So Ginga had a chokehold on me. But when I got sick last year, I became very emotionally invested in Tiga. That show resonated so hard with me probably more than any show I've watched recently. It's funny looking back on it now cause that was a point in time where my anxiety and depression was building up to where it was hard to be excited for anything, but when we started this show it was all I was looking forward to. Daigo as a character felt like a warm hug to me. He just felt like such a real person as the show went on, nothing too crazy about him, just someone who was full of light worthy of the mantle of Tiga. I loved this show so much that Leon got me the Sparklence ultra replica for my birthday that year (probably cause I kept begging for it, but I still love them for getting me it LOL)
Tumblr media
KAMEN RIDER GEATS WAS PEAK FICTION
Listen. This show was awesome. I would go nuts every week waiting for the next episode cause the story was THAT good to me. I dunno what it was about this that hooked me more than Revice ever did (trust me, I still love Hiromi to death) but ALL of the characters were soooo good. TBH I still can't pick my favorite. But if me having like 14 ID Cores and a whole as Desire Grand Prix cosplay doesn't tell you enough about me, idk what will lol.
Tumblr media
BAKUAGE TIRE. GO GO GO!
I know this show just started, but after accidentally skipping the entirety of KingOhger, this show is almost everything I wanted and I didn't even know it. Taiya and Ishiro being this generation's Marvelous and Joe was NOT what I was expecting but I am all here for it and I know Leon is gonna lose it if their story is the exact same lol. Mira might also be my new favorite pink (although I'm having trouble remembering who my other favorite pink was) that I NEEEEED to see her and Haruka meet some day. I also find it hilarious that I haven't watched a single episode of GoOnger but I'm seeing sooooo many similarities that I'm just calling it right now that there will be a cross over with them and I'm so here for it.
Tumblr media
Uhh... What was this show about again?
I'm gonna be 100 percent honest here, we haven't watched Gotchard since like episode 10 or something. Whatever episode Super UFO Gotchard debuts is the episode we have to start from. I won't lie though, I'm not in a hurry to watch this show. The start of the show low-key didn't grab me like I was hoping it would, but I think my expectations were way too high after Geats. It also doesn't help that the forms this season are highkey ass, but I'll give Platinum Gotchard and Valvarad passes. I purposefully haven't looked at Majade that much cause I wanna be hyped for the first female secondary rider when we get there cause its such an overdue thing in rider that I'm hoping we one day get a female main rider.
FADE IN:
INT. CC JITTERS - DAY
Cecile sits at the counter, sipping her coffee and reading a newspaper. She suddenly winces and grips the counter, looking like she's in pain.
BARISTA (concerned) Ma'am, are you okay?
Cecile looks up, dazed, and drops her coffee cup on the floor, shattering it. She quickly stands up and rushes out of the coffee shop.
CUT TO:
INT. STAR LABS - DAY
Barry, Iris, Joe, Chester, Allegra, and Riddleman are all gathered in the lab. Cecile bursts in, looking worried.
CECILE (panting) I just had a mind-power alert. It's about the orbs!
BARRY (serious) What did you see?
CECILE (frantically) I don't know, it was all jumbled. But I know it's about the orbs and it's bad.
JOE (calmly) We've got it handled. We've got both orbs right here in the lab.
IRIS (surprised) We do?
JOE (confidently) Yeah, we found them and brought them here for safe keeping.
CHESTER (jokingly) And to make sure no one else got their hands on them.
Everyone relaxes a bit, but still looks concerned.
BARRY (determined) Okay, so now that we have them, what do we do with them?
JOE (thoughtfully) We need to find out what's going on and why these orbs are so important.
Everyone nods in agreement and starts working on the orbs, trying to unlock their secrets and figure out what to do next.
FADE OUT.
FADE IN:
INT. STAR LABS - DAY
Emerald is sitting at a computer, scrolling through Team Flash's social media. He stops on a picture of Snow-Green, looking at it with longing.
ALLEGRA (O.C) (noticing) Hey, what's got you so engrossed?
Emerald jumps, surprised, and quickly minimizes the screen. He turns to face Allegra, who is giving him a curious look.
EMERALD (awkward) Oh, nothing. Just looking at some old photos.
ALLEGRA (skeptical) Really? It looked like you were checking out Snow-Green.
Emerald's face reddens and he looks down, sheepishly.
EMERALD (admitting) Okay, fine. I have a crush on her. But she's been kidnapped and I don't even know if she's okay.
ALLEGRA (encouraging) Don't worry, Emerald. We're all working together to find Snow and get her back. You'll get your chance to tell her how you feel.
Emerald looks up at Allegra, smiling gratefully.
EMERALD (hopeful) Thanks, Allegra. That means a lot.
Allegra smiles back and pats Emerald on the shoulder before heading back to her work.
FADE OUT.
FADE IN:
INT. TIME DUNGEON - DAY
Snow-Green runs through the halls of the time dungeon, her clothes and hair disheveled from her escape attempts. She bursts through a door, only to find herself back in the room she started in.
EVIL BARRY (V.O) (booming) You betrayed me, Snow-Green!
Snow-Green turns around, looking for the source of the voice.
SNOW-GREEN (defiant) I didn't betray you, Evil Barry. You're the one who brought me here.
EVIL BARRY (V.O) (mocking) Oh, poor Snow-Green. Still clinging to the past. But your past is what got you here. Your actions have consequences.
Snow-Green shudders at the sound of Evil Barry's voice. She takes a deep breath and straightens up, determined not to let him get the best of her.
SNOW-GREEN (resolute) I'm not afraid of you, Evil Barry. I'll find a way out of here.
The voice of Evil Barry fades away, leaving Snow-Green alone in the room. She looks around, searching for a way out.
FADE OUT.
FADE IN:
INT. STAR LABS - DAY
Chester is sitting at a table in the lab, fidgeting nervously. He looks around and sees Allegra walking towards him.
CHESTER (excitedly) Allegra, my love, have you heard any juicy gossip about the new speedster?
ALLEGRA (firmly) Chester, I'm not one to gossip.
CHESTER (jokingly) Oh come on, you're like a safe. All locked up with all the juicy details inside.
ALLEGRA (smirking) But unlike a safe, I have a combination that can't be cracked.
Chester is taken aback by her clever comeback and falls even more in love with her. He watches as she walks away, his mind racing with thoughts of her.
CUT TO:
INT. LAB - DAY
Chester takes a deep breath and pulls out an engagement ring from his pocket, looking at it longingly.
CHESTER (to himself) I hope she says yes.
The scene ends with Chester putting the ring back in his pocket and looking determined.
INT. STAR LABS - DAY
Cecile is frantically going through a stack of papers on a desk. She finally finds what she's looking for: a small, glowing meteor. She touches it, and immediately winces in pain.
RIDDLEMAN (in riddle-talk) A glowing rock, a fragile touch, a backwards speech, what is happening much?
JOE (urgently) What is it? Can you understand her?
RIDDLEMAN (in riddle-talk) Her words now jumbled, the truth unclear, the message lost, but I do not fear.
JOE (frustrated) Can you speak normal, please?
RIDDLEMAN (in riddle-talk) The answer lies within the question, but only in reverse is the solution expressed.
BARRY and IRIS enter the room.
BARRY (worried) What's going on here?
JOE (exasperated) Cecile touched the meteor and now she's talking backwards.
IRIS (concerned) We need to find out what's happening and how to fix it.
The team gathers around Cecile, looking worried but determined.
FADE OUT.
Emerald approaches Chester, who is fidgeting with something in his pocket.
EMERALD (excitedly) Hey Chester, what's with the glowing rock over there?
CHESTER (startled) What glowing rock? (realizes) Oh! That! Yeah, we found it at Big Belly Burger.
Emerald's eyes widen in recognition.
EMERALD (excitedly) That's the meteor from the legend of the orbs!
CHESTER (nervously) Orbs? What orbs? (fidgeting with his pocket again)
Emerald looks at Chester, who is clearly hiding something.
EMERALD (curious) The orbs that are said to give the wielder immense power. You know about them, right?
CHESTER (jokingly) Me? No, I only know about the power of love. (tries to hide his pocket)
Emerald raises an eyebrow, still confused.
EMERALD (curious) What's in your pocket?
CHESTER (nervously) Nothing! (stammers) Just a little something I've been keeping safe. (pulls out the ring)
Emerald looks at the ring, now realizing what Chester was hiding.
EMERALD (excitedly) Is that an engagement ring?
CHESTER (embarrassed) Yeah, I was going to ask Allegra. But now's not the time. (puts the ring back in his pocket) Let's talk about these orbs.
Emerald nods in agreement, and they start discussing the legend of the orbs, both of them completely unaware of the danger that lies ahead.
FADE OUT.
Snow-Green is pacing back and forth in the Time Dungeon, looking for a way out. She hesitates, knowing that using her powers could attract the attention of her captors.
Evil Barry appears on the other side of the bars, a smirk on his face.
EVIL BARRY (taunting) Going to blast your way out, Snow-Green? Good luck with that.
SNOW-GREEN (defiantly) I'll take my chances.
Evil Barry chuckles, and Snow-Green takes a deep breath. She focuses her powers, and green beams shoot out from her hands, striking the walls of the dungeon.
Evil Barry scoffs, but Snow-Green is undeterred.
SNOW-GREEN (quipping) Looks like your evil plan is as brittle as your frozen heart.
Evil Barry's smirk fades, and he looks at Snow-Green with anger in his eyes.
EVIL BARRY (angrily) You'll pay for that insult, Snow-Green.
Snow-Green continues to blast the walls with her beams, the energy crackling and sparking as it strikes the stone. She knows that escape won't be easy, but she's determined to break free.
FADE OUT.
Barry enters Flashtime and approaches the Speedforce.
BARRY (excitedly) Speedforce, I need your help. Cecile is speaking backwards, and I need to understand what she's saying.
SPEEDFORCE (calmly) Barry Allen, listen carefully. Cecile is telling you to combine the orbs and the meteor.
Barry nods in understanding and exits Flashtime, back in the lab. He approaches Chester and Joe, who are frantically trying to figure out what to do.
BARRY (excitedly) Guys, I know what to do! We need to combine the orbs and the meteor!
CHESTER (surprised) What? How are we supposed to do that?
BARRY (determined) We're going to need a bigger blender.
Chester and Joe look at each other in confusion, but nod in agreement and start gathering the necessary materials.
FADE OUT.
Iris is carefully placing the orbs, one by one, into a large blender. Chester is standing next to her, fidgeting with something in his pocket.
CHESTER (jokingly) Hey, Iris, you're really holding the balls now.
Everyone groans, except for Allegra, who laughs. Chester turns to her, grateful for the response.
ALLEGRA (laughing) Oh come on, that was a good one!
As Allegra laughs, she accidentally grazes Chester's pocket, causing him to jump in alarm.
CHESTER (nervously) Hey, watch it!
Allegra looks down and sees the engagement ring peeking out of Chester's pocket.
ALLEGRA (surprised) What's this?
Before Chester can respond, Barry interrupts, pressing a button on the blender.
BARRY (urgently) We need to combine the orbs and the meteor now!
Everyone watches as the orbs and meteor swirl around inside the blender. Suddenly, there's a bright flash of light, and everyone disappears.
INT. TIME DUNGEON - DAY
Snow-Green stands face to face with Evil Barry. He sneers at her, anger in his eyes.
EVIL BARRY (accusingly) You betrayed me! I thought we were in this together!
Snow-Green sets her jaw determinedly and looks him in the eye.
SNOW-GREEN (firmly) You divorced me so you could become a famous motorcycle racer in multiple dimensions. That's not exactly a solid foundation for a relationship.
Evil Barry looks taken aback by her words. He hangs his head in shame.
EVIL BARRY (ashamed) I'm sorry. I was wrong.
Snow-Green's expression softens slightly, but she still doesn't love him anymore.
SNOW-GREEN (resigned) It's too late for apologies. I don't love you anymore.
Just then, Team Flash appears in a blinding flash of light. Chester looks at Evil Barry in surprise, while Barry, Iris, and Allegra stare in shock at Snow-Green.
BARRY (stunned) What's going on here?
Snow-Green takes a deep breath and turns to face them.
SNOW-GREEN (resolutely) I broke through the walls of the Time Dungeon with my green beams. We have work to do. Let's go.
Emerald steps forward and takes Snow-Green's hand.
EMERALD (determined) We'll face any challenge together.
FADE OUT.
INT. TIME DUNGEON - DAY
The battle between Evil Barry and Team Flash is in full swing. Chester's puns are ineffective against Evil Barry, who has produced multiple clones of himself. Each clone wields a laser gun and rides a motorcycle, making it even harder for Allegra to hit her target.
Evil Barry's speed and cunning make him a formidable opponent, but Snow-Green is not afraid. She stands strong, her green energy at the ready. Suddenly, Emerald grabs Snow-Green's hand, catching her off guard.
SNOW-GREEN (surprised) What are you doing?!
EMERALD (urgently) We need to work together!
Snow-Green nods, understanding. The two of them join forces, their green beams combining to create a powerful blast that takes out multiple clones at once.
ALLEGRA (impressed) Whoa, that was impressive!
SNOW-GREEN (determined) We'll talk about it later! Right now, we need to focus on defeating Evil Barry!
FADE OUT.
CECILE (confused) What are you trying to say? I don't understand your riddles.
RIDDLEMAN (urgently) The answer lies within the wounds of my heart.
CECILE (frustrated) I need you to speak clearly! What do you mean?
The Riddleman winces as a piece of shrapnel digs into his flesh. He stumbles, his words becoming slurred as he passes out from blood loss.
CECILE (worried) Riddleman! Stay with me!
She cradles his head in her arms, looking up at Barry with concern.
BARRY (determined) We need to get him out of here and to a hospital.
Suddenly, Barry steps forward, holding up his hand.
BARRY (earnestly) Stop!
Evil Barry looks taken aback by Barry's sudden intervention.
BARRY (CONT'D) (continuing) I want to talk to you about the power of love.
Evil Barry rolls his eyes, but Barry continues undaunted.
BARRY (CONT'D) (continuing) Do you remember Emerald and Snow-Green's love for each other? Or Cecile and Joe's love for each other? Or my love for Iris? Or Chester and Allegra's love for each other?
Chester and Allegra exchange a look, and Chester suddenly drops down on one knee.
CHESTER (excitedly) Allegra, will you marry me?
Allegra looks stunned for a moment, but then smiles widely.
ALLEGRA (tearfully) Yes!
Barry looks pleased, and continues his speech.
BARRY (softly) And do you remember how their love caused the clones of you to die?
Evil Barry's eyes widen, and he looks at the scene in front of him with shock. He sees the power of love, and his clones begin to fade away, one by one.
CHESTER (making a joke) Well, it looks like love really is the greatest weapon against evil!
Everyone laughs, and the tension in the air breaks. Team Flash has defeated Evil Barry once and for all.
SNOW-GREEN (smiling) I heard this place has a lot of bed-side manner!
Chester laughs, and Emerald and Allegra roll their eyes.
RIDDLEMAN (smiling) I'll be sorry to miss the wedding of Chester and Allegra, but I'm glad to hear that love triumphed over evil.
Chester puts an arm around Allegra, and they smile at each other.
CHESTER (laughing) I couldn't resist proposing in the heat of the moment!
Adele smiles and waves.
ADELE (explaining) I heard you were all here and I wanted to come and say "Hello". And I also wanted to let you know that I'm an ordained minister.
ALLEGRA (surprised) Really?
ADELE (nodding) Yes, really. I can perform a musical wedding for you two right here, right now!
CHESTER (laughing) Well, I guess this is the most musical wedding I'll ever have!
Everyone laughs, and Adele begins to sing the wedding ceremony for Chester and Allegra. The room is filled with the sounds of Adele's beautiful voice, and everyone is moved by the love and joy in the air.
CHESTER (saying his vows) I, Chester, take you, Allegra, to be my lawfully wedded wife. And I promise to make you laugh every day for the rest of our lives.
OLIVER (urgently) I need your help, Barry. And the Riddleman's too. Time itself is in danger.
Barry and Iris exchange a worried look.
IRIS (concerned) What happened?
OLIVER (gravely) I can't explain it all now, but we have to act fast. The fate of the universe is at stake.
Barry nods, looking serious.
BARRY (resolutely) We'll do whatever it takes.
The camera pulls back as the trio heads out of the cafeteria, ready to face their latest challenge.
