Prompt 206
There seems to have been a bit of a misunderstanding, Ellie is realizing as she opens the door- in her pajamas no less- to the freaking Justice League. Either that or they’re gonna’ have to go on the run from something her brothers or Vlad did.
What do you mean Jazz blew up a building?! Without inviting them?!

DPxDC Writing Prompt Idea
I have no idea if this has been done before but I just had this idea so if it has been done feel free to ignore this but I gotta share this.
So, I always see these prompts of different characters being related to different DC characters. For example I've seen some where people say that Tucker is related to Lucius Fox. Dash is related to Harley Quinn. Jack being related to Bruce Wayne. Danny related to Tim/Damian/Dick or any of the other Batfam but one I haven't seen before is one that I feel could be easily used.
Maddie Fenton is related to Jim Gordon.
Now, I've never seen this or even heard people talking about it and I can kind of understand why. Maddie is shown to have a sister but like - hear me out anyways.
Maddie has a cousin, she has met him a couple of times as a kid and only once as an adult when Danny was around 7. There wasn't any real reason for it, just a Family Reunion and an excuse to spend time as a family, something she often forgot to do when she was so determined to get the Ghost Portal open.
Her cousin is Jim and his daughter is a good ten years older than Danny. She had heard that Jim was quickly rising in rank in Gotham City and that his daughter - despite the occasional odd truancy issues - had her head on straight. Jazz also adored the older girl and followed her around the entire reunion, looking almost like Barbara's little sister.
Danny got closer to Jim than his daughter though, and started talking about things that he probably shouldn't have. After all, what 7 year old has a filter? What 7 year old knows not to mention the fact that sometimes their food attacks them or that Jazz is learning how to cook because sometimes mom and dad forget to feed them because their research is important. The more Danny talks the more concerned Jim gets, but he's also conflicted.
This is his cousin, the same cousin who the time Danny fell and scraped his knee peppered kisses on each and every one of his freckles on his face and danced with him until the pain stopped and then patched him up and danced with him again. This is family. He's sure that Danny is just... making things sound bigger than they are, as children do - at least he hopes that's the case.
But on the off chance that there is something going on he slips Jazz and Danny both his number and gives his cousin the same number in case anything came up.
As the years go on though Jim starts to see more red flags. Small things at first - Jazz asking how to change the batteries in a fire alarm. Danny calling to ask if pot-lids could be stuck in the microwave to cover rice. Basic questions that could be asked to a parent or a parent should be doing for their kids anyways. But whenever Jim asked about this the answer was the same.
"Mom and Dad are busy in the lab."
This continued for years until a call from Jazz one night seven years after he'd met them for the first time. She was crying and sobbing, her voice shaking as she tries to get the words out.
"Danny had an accident. Mom and dad aren't home, what do I do?"
Jim was 900 miles away, he had no way to get to them. No way to get him to them. So he did what he could and instructed her to hang up with him and call for an ambulance. Jazz was scared though, she didn't trust the doctors but thankfully Danny's voice could be heard.
The relief Jazz had when her brother woke up was enough to make Jim feel like he was going to throw up. The call ended shortly after that but he made sure to call a few days later and ask his cousin how Danny was doing.
"Danny? He's just fine!"
"That's good. He healed from the accident then?"
"What accident- oh, Jack no, that goes to the right - your other right. Jim, sorry I have to go. We can talk about this later, okay?"
Jim was appalled. Jazz had called him in tears, hyperventilating and Danny had been unconscious - Jazz though he was dead - and their parents didn't have any idea?
It was a little over a year later that he got another call. Just as frantic, just as scared, but much worse.
Danny was all but screaming in the back ground, voices were telling him to holds still and that they knew it hurt but he was bleeding out and he needed to hold still. Terrified, hurt, betrayed voices. Jazz again explained the situation, this time eerily calm.
"I can't go into details over the phone but we're coming to Gotham City to seek Asylum against a law that will get Danny killed. We need you to keep Batman off of our tails until Danny is healed. We'll handle everything from there."
"Healed? Healed from what?" Why did these calls always happen during work. "Jazz, what is happening? You have to give me something if I'm going to protect you guys."
"... My parents cut Danny open, Jim. They cut him open and he's hurt bad. Myself, Danny, and two of our friends are on our way to you now." Jim felt like his jaw hit the floor then snapped back up so hard it gave him whiplash as he sank back in his chair. "Before you ask; no. Hospitals aren't an option. Danny isn't a meta and they weren't violating any laws when they cut him open. Which is why we need you to keep Batman away from us for as long as possible. What... what Danny is shouldn't exist and if anybody gets a hold of him they'll cut him back open, turn him into a super weapon, or destroy him."
"Then why call me. I'm a police commissioner. What makes you sure you can trust me?"
"I'm not. Neither are the others with us but the only thing Danny has said since we saved him is 'Go to Jim'. We're following his lead on this. So... I'm trusting Danny, who has his full trust in you, Jim. Don't let him down."

Apology Fudge: Interlude
Tumblr media
An interlude to this, this post I made, Apology Fudge. I have decided to write a full on fanfic of the AU. But before I get to the whole... Jason finding the container of Apology Fudge... let us start from the beginning.
THE ORIGINS OF THE APOLOGY FUDGE!
Well... an intro that is...
Just a heads up... I'm currently dealing with a family loss, please don't pressure me for quick updates at this moment.
Tumblr media
Jack knew something was going on with his youngest. He may not be a consistent parent in his kids lives, he knows his kids. Just as he knows whatever is going on with Danny, Jazz knows and is doing her best to help him. At age 15, Danny became rather reserved and kept hiding away in a black and white hoodie Sam gave him for their anniversary. The hoodie brought Danny comfort, nearly tearing down their home when it went missing once.
After that, Danny-boy behavior changed. It became… too perfect. Too good. Hiding behind far strained of a smile.
"He reminds me of me, when I tried to be the perfect son for my parents." Jack confessed to Maddie one night. "That was before I left for university…"
Maddie placed a hand over his heart in an attempt to console hm. Despite how open her husband is about his family, any mention of his parents always seemed to damper Jack's entire mood. His parents never approved of his fascination with ghosts, let alone his choice to move out of state to continue his studies. They had cut all contact with their own son until he came to his senses. Seeing as Jack hasn’t spoken to his parents since Jazz’s birth…
“…I’m going to take him out fishing this weekend.”
Tumblr media
Jack could tell the moment he and his son exited the vehicle with their fishing gear on, that it was a good start to an early morning. Small talk was done, mainly himself going on about wanting to see if he could catch a ghost fish. Maybe his old pet fish, Fishy Fish. He still swears he could see Fishy Fish in his dreams at times. Danny relaxed some more, throwing in some jokes of his own about Fishy Fish and maybe they should get an aquarium.
"That's the spirit!" Jack exclaimed, turning on the engine to the fishing boat. "Now to get us some dinner!"
Yes... dinner. If Danny is able to maintain his composure for that long. Sure, he loves spending time with his dad. More so when it comes to the fishing trips. But that changed after... smiling to hide his secrets and the fears that threaten to take over. His smile strained as his dad talked about some recent weapon designs he's been developing.
Looking away, tightly gripping the fishing rod as he tried to not think about it. The weapons that he knew that he would be at the opposite side of. He did not even notice that his father's voice trailed off.
"Dad…"
"Yeah, Danny-Boy?"
"…. you… love me, right?"
"What kind of question is that? Of course I love ya! You, Jazzy-Bear and Maddie!" Jack placed down his own fishing rod to turn his body to face his son. He could see Danny folded into himself, still wearing that hoodie of his. The sight made his stomach churn. "No matter what. No matter what you do. No matter what. I will always love you, being proud of you and always, know that!"
Danny looked away, his bottom lip wobbled as he tried to take in his words. He nearly flinched when he felt something touch his head.
"Danny… is everything alright? I know I haven't been present in yours and Jazz's lives… but your mother and I are here for you two. I am here for you." Jack attempted to talk with his son. Moving his hand away but just enough to give his son enough room for himself. "I know you've been doing your best to be perfect and good."
Danny's head snapped over to him, eyes wide and mouth agape as he attempted to come up with an excuse.
Jack raised a hand to stop him. "I did the same thing when I was your age… and I'm going to tell you what I wished my own father had told me… You don't have to be perfect. You don't have to be good all the time. You don't need to earn our approval. We love you and have already earned our approval! Whatever you want to do with your life, it's your choice! Don't feel like you have to be a certain way to get our approval."
"Do you promise not to get mad?"
Do you promise to not get mad?
"What have I done?"
I killed my own son... This is all my fault.

Danny Phantom
There's not much change in name, but I intend to use what the fandom come up for his middle name (at least I think that's what the fandom agreed on? I might be wrong).
Daniel James Fenton.
Daniel, his actual full first name.
James, is what I remembered the name the fandom agreed upon, or at least some of it.
Fenton, his family name. There's nothing for me to explain about.
Also, a friend pointed out that I have a habit of giving things dramatic names (I'd say the influence of Genshin is strong af-). I do have a habit of making something to be more extreme than it was when it was originally made, so please don't mind it.
Relationships:
Maddie and Jack:
They're still the goofy and quirky parents Danny and Jazz had, but was smarter compared to the original. Knew Danny turned into ghost and the portal incident, more like they were also witnesses of that said incident. The sound of his scream of agony and pain manage to pull out nightmares for the both of them on several nights. However, that doesn't waver their love for their son. Sure, he may become half of the being they're hunting down for the sake of studies or something, but that doesn't erase the fact that this ghost child is their child, their little baby who unfortunately fell into the abyss of their own mistakes and neglect. They assists Team Phantom many times when it comes to the supply and whatever knowledge they have currently and are still expanding beyond their current understanding for the sake of learning to find a solution that wouldn't harm either side of the plane.
Jazz:
Nothing much different compared to the canon, except she was also a witness to the incident. Her overprotectiveness tenfold, much to Danny's dismay, and it took a lot of time for them to find a common ground and for her to tone down. There's nothing much different in this version compared to the original.
Sam, Tucker:
Danny's friends since elementary. Their relationship is pretty much the same as they are in canon, but what's different is that Danny and Sam doesn't harbor feelings for one another (I apologize for those who ship Amethyst Ocean), and therefore they aren't in any other relationship other than best friends.
Valerie:
Danny's relationship with Valerie is very contradictive compared to their relationship in canon. First and foremost; Valerie listens to people more than just act out and shutting her ears out, yes she sometimes act out first questions later, but she had made pretty good judgements and know that nothing good happens when jumping to conclusions too quickly and taking everything at face value without knowing the full story. She and Danny became friends during freshman year of middle school, and although Valerie still somewhat in the 'popular' clique in their school, she'd prefer to spend time with the Team Phantom any time. She could be considered the hub of all gossips at school with how much information she gets from the most loud and chatty clique of the whole school.
Dani/Elly, Dan/Ozzy:
Dani: The first ever semi-success clone of Danny made by Vlad. Nothing really is different in their relationship, until Dani was in the most critical condition that had something to do with her unstable ectoplasm, which required her to have to be revert to a some sort of fetus and undergo a process similar to normal human pregnancy, but instead of putting the halfa fetus into Danny, it was put inside of a bottle first before a birthing pod when the halfa child became more mature and resembles a newborn. In turn, she'll be reborn back as purely Danny's child (think about Ben who asexually reproduced, but went through a completely different process) without any of her past memories in place. The art and technology of doing this process remains undisclosed. Her new identity became Eleanor Maria Fenton with the nickname "Elly", and she became the ghost princess by right of birth after her "rebirth".
Dan: Their relationship remains the same until Danny decided to properly take care of Dan (before the de-aging). Think of it like a Nahida-Scaramouche/Wanderer relationship. Although it was a painfully grueling process, Danny was patient and really think about Dan and his freedom and his disoriented characteristics at heart and tried to the best of his abilities to help Dan out through it all. However, it turns out the ectoplasm from Vlad's half in Dan was found out to have a corruption, making Dan going through an excruciating pain and suffering. In order to cleanse the corruption entirely, Dan have to go through the same process as Dani, reverting him back to that of a fetus, born now as a halfa, and restart everything from scratch. His new identity became Kalos Marcus Fenton with the nickname "Ozzy", becoming the ghost prince by right of birth after his "rebirth". He and Elly had became twins in this current life.
Cujo:
The ghost dog that Danny found outside the building of Axion Labs (no, he didn't went in and wreck the place, because I'm twisting some things in Shades of Gray because Valerie is part of Team Phantom from the start). The dog looked lost, confused, as if it doesn't know what to do, so Danny decided to take the dog in and brought him home. After a while, he realized the tag on the dog's collar, and figured that this dog at some point was a staff at Axion Labs or maybe someone related to someone who works at the lab, and decided to check what's the deal with the dog and the lab. Danny later found out that the ghost dog, along with other dogs before (he didn't know if the other staff dogs are also dead, but he'll have to check it up later) are used to be guards dogs decades ago, but they were let down when technology became more efficient. The dog canals, food bowls, and other stuff are being put in an abandoned storage space that was completely sealed off. But a single toy stood out to him, a squeaky toy. Since this is the only toy in the whole room, Danny assumed this might've belonged to the ghost dog he found, so he decided to go back home and hoping this is the item that the dog was looking for to the point of waiting outside the walls of the lab for, which thankfully it was. However, instead of going back to the Ghost Zone, the dog decided to stay, and Danny became his owner after asking Maddie and Jack (to which both agreed). Cujo became his name.
Vlad:
Good god, where do I even begin... Ok, I guess I should start that their relationship is a lot worse than in canon. Yes, he still had that hatred towards Jack, but he also hated Maddie as the miniature portal was also her creation as it is to Jack's. By extent, he hated both of their kids too (unreasonable? Yes, but anything goes for me-), but particularly Danny due to his status as a halfa and the many connection he had between the living plane and the Ghost Zone. Dani's creation wasn't because he wanted a perfect son, it was an attempt to use the clones as an army to attack Danny. Dan's creation was literally a succeeded version of Vlad's plan. Vlad figured that the only way to really hurt Maddie and Jack, was to hurt their beloved youngest, the more pain the better he said. Vlad was so deep into his hatred towards the Fentons, morality was completely out the window and down the drain for him. Every attempt was another way for him to destroy the Fentons of what they did to him, he wasn't willing to talk whatsoever, even an attempt would've been futile instead. Due to me completely erasing Phantom Planet from existence, Vlad was still roaming free under the facade of a good natured mayor while scheming to get rid of the Fentons by any means necessary. His ectoplasm became corrupted due to many times it was used to experiment dangerous creations and many mysterious methods. However, Vlad could withstand it due to his overflowing amount of sheer hatred, while Dan couldn't handle the corruption due to having Danny's DNA.
Manny:
A fellow member of the Nicktoons Team. Manny (alongside Jenny) joined much later. They started out as acquaintances then friends, then after a while, they both started a relationship. Manny's life became even more interesting by the time the twins came to the picture, and Manny wouldn't want it any other way. He's a great babysitter (any maybe even parent, someday).
Jimmy, Timmy:
Danny considered both of them as his troublesome younger brothers, particularly Timmy. It all happened because the Turners asked the Fentons if it's ok for them to leave Timmy under the Fentons for a while, and that's how Danny's babysitting career started (do not ask for details. If you know what the Turners are like, that should speak volumes enough). Danny met Jimmy a little later afterwards after seeing a lonely kid on the bench of the courtyard of Timmy's school, so he decided to approach him, and that's how they get to know each other. Danny was a bit protective towards Jimmy due to how many times he's been bullied and being treated as an outcast because of his high IQ, so Jimmy found a safe haven in Danny. Although Danny said he's more of their babysitter than anything, Danny turned out to be that of a parental figure of the team; slightly strict but responsible and gave out reasonable rules so no one gets into unwanted troubles even outside missions. Both Jimmy and Timmy viewed Danny is that of the 3rd parental figure who kept them grounded and the voice of reason and motivation for them. Although he is still capable of grounding them, like confiscating Timmy's video games and locking Jimmy's lab while taking the key with him. Jenny said it was a given considering many times those two caused trouble.
SpongeBob:
Danny's best buddy in the team. SB had always been the motivational one of the whole team and kept everyone in spirits. Literally the closet person he had in the team way before Manny and Jenny. Supports Danny through thick and thin, and was the first person Danny ever confided with whenever he had problems and vice versa.
Jenny:
Was the only person (robot?) Danny recognized in Center Shades, and the only one Danny talked with for a while until he got to know the other members (particularly Randy and Jake). Danny was Jenny's backup fixer whenever Jimmy is not available and/or wasn't with them altogether, hence the only person Jenny trust in the other team with her mechanisms.
Info Dumps:
I will be dumping a hella load of info in this column, so be warned if you don't want to read everything. I'm not really willing to make a separate blog about this topic itself, so consider it like a Danny speciality that you can't find anywhere except asking Danny himself;
The term 'ghosts' is an umbrella term used for all types of spirits that originates from all the realms of the Infinite Realms (commonly known as the Ghost Zone). Just because they're called ghosts, doesn't necessarily mean they are whatever that's left of a human spirit.
Ghosts aren't inherently bad natured; they're more driven by their obsessions more than anything, and doesn't really meant to cause harm, but their obsessions could clouded their better judgement, making them getting mischaracterized as 'bad natured' and 'pure evil'. They're not bad, they just need something to feed off of their obsessions to find a few specks of peace.
The Ghost Zone is actually named as Infinite Realms, but another name was also proposed when the realm was first discovered; Gap of The Sun. The reason for this naming is that it was once believed that this realm had been created from a sun that once exploded, and instead of turning into a black hole, it turned into a neverending realm filled with doors leading to many other realms. However, the naming and this theory was eventually dropped due to lack of evidence to support the claim of the exploded sun that created this primal realm.
The nature of ectoplasm is currently unknown, but it is theorized to be remnants of a spirit's will and their former drive when they were still alive. But due to the lack of evidence, there is no concrete info that the ectoplasm were remnants of the ghosts leftover living will. It was only left that ectoplasm are just what give these ghosts their shape after their soul no longer resides using a human vessel in the living plane.
There's a phenomenon between the ghosts called a "Death Day", where the ghost will have to relive the memories of their death, the feeling of pain they felt all over again. They would go completely paralyzed and won't be able to move at all as they relive the memories and pain of their death with nowhere to go as they couldn't move. The aftereffects when the day of their Death Day had passed are; extreme numbness, lacking color vision in their sights (everything is in black and white for them), complete blockage of their powers, and whatever that's left in their mood swings of their Death Day. The only way to minimize the pain during Death Day was when the spirit's living loved ones visit their graves or commemorate the death anniversary. Even then, that won't erase the pain entirely, as it won't affect anything in the aftereffects (although this is unclear for those who are born as a halfa).
Danny's ghost king title:
Ok, so I did said that Danny became ghost king in this version, right? Well, in version, Danny became ghost king a little later after the defeat of Pariah Dark. Technically, he was already crowned shortly after, but due to the fact he's biologically and chronologically too young to rule yet, it was decided that Danny have to wait until he was 20 to finally take on the big roles of being the king of ghosts. Until then, he was made to do smaller tasks that seemed a bit big to him at first, but once he became king, the weight was even more immense than what he had initially thought it would.
The Ghost Law:
A law that is absolutely mandatory to follow by all ghosts of every realm and every kind. Here are some examples;
Ghosts are absolutely forbidden to harm those who still resides the living plane by any means.
In terms of handling one's obsessions, it is absolutely advised to ask the Ghost King for any solution that wouldn't involved the living beings.
Killing a living soul or the environment of the living realm will be heavily punished.
In terms of living amongst the alive in the living plane, a barrier must be made around the property to prevent ghost hunters or unwanted guests from lingering the property.
When a soul from the living plane had lost its human vessel and could no longer resides amongst the alive (basically: someone died), it is an absolute must to inform the ghost king in order to conduct the 'White Farewell' ceremony for the now-departed spirit.
Personality:
Not much different, except he radiates mom energy all over. Well, no wonder. Along with Ben, Danny has plenty experience when it comes to hyperactive and/or rowdy kids, and had a huge sense of parental responsibility towards everyone. Both Danny and Ben would be fussing over those who would dive head first into trouble without a clear plan and getting injured in the process, or when someone did something incredibly stupid it ended as a huge problem (they're in the Overview department for a reason).
Danny is more... Elegant compared to the original. There's always an aura of grace coming from him, and sometimes his voice comes off a sort of a mystical vibes, even if he didn't intend to it. Although despite being king, his overall personality didn't change; humble, friendly, and approachable.
Battle attire:
Something like a royal outfit, but nothing extravagant. Ok, maybe adding a bit of claws on his gloves could be a bit extra, but you can't blame me, blame Ningguang-
The hair tho, I have been thinking like a Zhongli-style ponytail in battle form. But in normal form, like human form will varies depending on what Danny wanted. Majority of his hair would already be white even in his human form.
The design I came up with.

Other Info:
Obtained the title or nickname as "Siren Voice", due to his mystical and beautiful voice. Think of it as those myths where sailors would disappear when they heard the voice of a mermaid/siren. This'll be hella useful for Danny in so many ways.
Ftm transgender, though he liked being called 'mom' by the twins.
Although he is a Fenton, he does not have the Fenton luck when it comes to driving (neither does Jazz). But he was usually being driven to by his ghostly staff/guards than driving himself. He still have a driver's license though.
Still can't get close to Blood Blossoms, otherwise he'll experience pain as horrible as the time of his 'death'.
Danny's body is sturdy but also hella flexible. He used to do gymnastics when he was younger, but his flexibility was greatly enhanced when he became a halfa.
Danny's eyes changed after the incident, not just when he's a ghost; originally icy blue, now blue on top half, and ecto green on bottom half. His eyes is still fully green when he went ghost.
The 2nd tallest in both at Nicktoons and the other team. Sorta thriving and suffering at the same time (the whole 'shorter people live longer' joke became a bit too literal than it was intended to due to Jake's longevity).
Danny would, quite literally, became a dictionary when someone would ask about ghosts, its nature and laws, etc.
Danny and June are actually pretty close friends due to their shared dreams to be an astronaut (even with their current circumstances).
Danny used to love eating sweets and desserts, but as Sam and Valerie monitored him and limit his consumption of sweet food ever since he had the twins.
Given everyone his protection seal, so ghosts couldn't really harm them, and it'll be much easier dealing with the ghosts like that because they're under the 'territory' of the ghost king himself.
At some point, Danny will start an orphanage for lost young souls who met their fate far too early. Randy might also do the same, but just with living children, and there will also be rescue shelters and such.
Danny's signature flower is Star Lit Orchid.

Day 07. Purify & Infect
Maddie tries to rid her son of his ghostly possession.
Warnings: blood, vomiting, seizures, and major character death
Maddie knew there was something wrong. Since last September her son had been acting weird. He'd been sneaking out, skipping school, lying, and strangest of all, he’d been afraid.
He used to love spending time with his family. Going fishing with Jack, having little spa days with her, but recently, they’d have to practically force him into any sort of family activity.
Most would brush this off as him just growing up. It was completely normal to be embarrassed by your parents to the point of avoidance at this age, but it wasn’t embarrassment. He flinched whenever Jack talked in that loud booming voice of his, whenever she put her hand on his shoulder. He was skittish whenever he was alone in a room with either of them. Sometimes he even hid from them.
Up until now she had thought it was the portal accident. Maybe he blamed them for it, maybe he was scared that their inventions would hurt him, but then she started to notice other things
His feet would slip through the floor, his hands would disappear, his eyes would glow, and she could swear he had fangs sometimes.
Her son was possessed.
“Hi honey, how was school today?”
He jumped and whipped his head towards her, like he didn’t expect her to be there. “It was good I guess, what’re you doing?”
She started digging through the cupboards, she could have sworn she put them here just last night. “I’m just grabbing some tea bags. Thought I’d make us each a cup.” There. She grabbed two tea bags, filled up a kettle, and put it on the stove.
He set his bag down on the ground and took a seat at the table. “Oh nice, can I have the dead nettle? It’s in that ziplock up on the-”
“I actually bought a new flavour for us to try. Something that tastes a little less like dirt.” Danny would always get defensive when someone insulted his favourite foods. Just maybe…
“It tastes like good dirt okay? Like, childhood dirt. I honestly don’t understand why you guys don’t love it.”
He was still in there somewhere. The ghost may have access to his memories, or maybe he had some control. Either way, he still had a chance.
She stood next to the kettle and waited. He looked slightly uncomfortable. He was avoiding eye contact, glancing around the room, playing with the fraying fabric at the holes in his jeans. She needed to break the silence, make him less wary.
“How have Sam and Tucker been?”
He jumped before processing the question. “Oh, pretty good.” He shrugged and went back to looking around the room.
“That’s good.”
The silence returned, but was quickly broken by the tea kettle screaming. She turned off the stove, grabbed two mugs from a drawer, put the teabags in, and filled them with water.
“No honey?”
“The tea itself is pretty sweet tasting. Honey isn’t needed.”
She brought the mugs over to the table where he was sitting and placed one in front of him before taking a sip of her tea. He picked up the mug, blew on it a couple times, and took a large gulp before choking on it.
“Is it supposed to be spicy?” He managed to ask in between painful sounding coughs
She continued sipping at her tea. “Yes.”
He started clawing at his throat “It’s really hot, burning my throat.”
“It needed to be brought to a complete boil instead of just heated.”
He was shaking, his eyes were bugging out. “Something’s wrong.”
“Nothing’s wrong, drink your tea.”
He was gasping for air, he fell from his seat, onto the floor. “I can’t-”
“Drink the tea or get out of my son.”
He looked up at her, pure fear unlike anything she’d seen before painted across his face. “What?”
She set down her tea, stood up from her seat, and walked to stand right in front of him. “I know what you are, you’ve been hurting him long enough. Do you think I’m stupid? Do you think I wouldn’t notice the difference between a ghost and my own son?”
“Mom, I-”
“I am not your mother!”
Tears streamed down his face, he started another coughing fit, shaking as if he was being electrocuted, vomiting up acidic green ectoplasm, gasping for breath, then he went completely still.

Danny Fenton Football Captain and the East Coast Vampire
Epilogue
You can also read this on A03, FF.net, and Wattpad
The Amity Park airport was small, it only had eight gates and one lonely Mcdonalds stand that waited for its passengers behind the TSA checkpoint. At the checkpoint stood an overweight and shabby TSA guard. He stood there watching the Fenton family as he picked a booger out of his nose, before he flicked it to the side. Jazz looked sick and tried not to gag.
    Meanwhile the whole situation made Danny want to vomit. He had only been out of the hospital for a day and his parents were already dragging him to see him . Vlad Masters stood a foot smaller than his father but his ego was larger than the empire state building. He wore a pitch black casual suit, with a gold handle umbrella in his right hand. In his left Desiree was wrapped around his arm, her long black hair had been moved to hide her black eye. She gave Danny a kind motherly smile. Danny just rolled his eyes, shifting his weight to a leg that wasn’t currently hurting.
“Well V-man! It was nice to see you again,” Jack said.
“Yes, it was a pleasure to see the both of you again. Hopefully we can meet again soon,” Vlad replied.
“Of course, and hopefully there won’t be another fire alarm prank next time. Maybe we can spend a nice night together. You know just the four of us?” Maddie said.
“Yes! We will have to goona double date next time. Won’t that be fun Vlad?” Desiree said. “Maybe next time you can visit us and we can take you to that restaurant we liked. The one with the deconstructed sushi with the gold flakes?”
“That sounds amazing! Isn't it Jack?” Maddie said.
“What the heck is deconstructed sushi?” Jack stated.
“Oh Jack, I’ll have to show you. It has to be one of the best things I have had in a while,” Vlad smoothed the mood over. “It was also nice to finally meet your children.”
“Yes. It was great to get some advice for college and meet someone like Mr. Masters” Jazz said.
“You don’t need to call me Mr. Masters, you can just call me uncle Vlad,” Vlad said.
“Maybe someday Mr. Masters,” Jazz gracefully put it.
“That is okay. Take your time,” Vlad then turned to Danny.
Danny sighed “It was nice to meet you sir,”
“It was nice to meet you to Daniel, I hope we can meet again soon. I see bright things in your future,” Vlad said.
    His parents kept the conversation up with him before he was forced to go to his private Jet. Right before Vlad turned the corner to his gate, Danny could see his blood red eyes.
. . .
It was a few days before Danny could go back to school. The teachers and students had created a get better soon card for him and several students bombarded him with questions and well wishes, making it difficult for him to traverse the hallways. During Mr. Lancer's class he was handed another note, this time with a sticker of a bat pushed on it as a sort of seal. It had in it very set instructions to meet Sam in the library classroom.
The library classroom was used for computer storage nowadays and was rarely used, but rumor had it that one could book the room. And for Sam it seemed it was possible. In the room were old mac desktops and boxes of floppy disks, all shoved in the corners collecting dust. The wallpaper here looked the same poisonous one, as the rest of the first floor.
Tucker and Star were on a modern gaming laptop. He was clicking through documents showing her something. Danny assumed it had to be nerdy stuff that he wouldn’t understand. Across the room Sam was teaching Kwan self defense. She was holding a mat and having Kwan kick it at different heights.
“Hey guys,” Danny said.
“Danny!” Star rushed over and hugged him. “How are you feeling?”
“Ah, a little pain. The doctors say I can’t play a game for a month, but I should be back by the end of the season,” Danny closed the door behind him.
“That’s good! At least you’re not dead,” Tucker said, still at his laptop.
“So Danny,” Sam began, “Can you tell us what happened between you and Vlad?”
“Yeah, but it’s gonna be a long story so sit down.”
. . .
    The school day came with a chaotic close with half the school body asking about Danny’s health and football ability. He was only able to get away by phasing through the boys bathroom and walking around the school. At the end of the sidewalk Paulina stood there with a sour look on her face.
“Hey Paulina,” Danny said. He opened up to say something else but Paulina shaved a card into his chest.
“I’m sorry!” Paulina said.
“What?”
“I’m sorry for causing drama. I wanted you to ask me out and I got pissy when you asked Valerie out and I took my anger on you. I also didn’t mean to spill the punch. That was an accident!” The words spilled out of her mouth like a stream.
“Woah, woah, woah. Paulina it’s okay,” Danny said.
“No, I want to make sure I make it up to you. While you were in the hospital Dash and I talked and I don’t want to lose any of you as friends. So I’m sorry.”
“It’s okay Paulina. I forgive you. Really I was never really mad at you.”
Really?”
“Yeah.”
“Oh thank god.”
    A silence fell between them but not a heavy silence. It was one of understanding and forgiveness.  “Hey Danny, do you want to go to Nasty Burger with me? I’ll buy you an apology burger,” Paulina said.
“Thank you, but I’ll have to take you up on that later. Right now I’m running late to see someone else,” Danny hopped on his bike.
“Okay. Call me later?”
“Yeah! See ya later Paulina!” They waved goodbye to each other as he rode down the street.
. . .
    Danny biked up the park path, his wheels crushing all the dead leaves below him. The brown and black leaves littered the ground like a thin blanket, tucking the earth in for a long sleep. Above him the trees were barren without a soul in sight. The songs of birds that he had heard only a month ago were replaced by the distance cries of crows.
    He rode past the playground, the yellow caution tape now broken and flying in the wind and saw a small patch of sunlight on top of a hill. Valerie sat on a pale knitted blanket, her body covered in heavy coats and thick leggings. A bright red scarf hung around her neck like a medal. Her bright smile made a fire light up in his chest. She had gotten them some containers of soup and grilled cheese, each of the items fogging up their closed take out containers.
    He huddled close to her taking in the scent of her sweet perfume and the warmth of her body as they watched the last autumn sunset fall below the city lights.

That christmas comic you reblogged broke my heart. A part of me would like to see Jack and Maddie go through a sort of scrooge moment where on christmas they are forced to view all the moments they unintentionally hurt their kids and realize their son hates christmas because of them, or that he has such low self-esteem because they made him think that grades are what makes you smart. Or how Jazz has been made to be the responsible one in the family.
ooooohhhh. scrooge situation. with spirits. that would be so freaking interesting. we're a month late but time is an illusion especially on the internet so lets go.
lets start with this is the year after the shows christmas episode. danny kinda learned his lesson and is trying to make the holiday better for him and his family and friends. he is earnestly trying to make this the best christmas ever. and it's not working. jazz, who's been at college for the school year, is trying to make it back to town but the weather prevented it. his parents fight is worse than ever, and it's like they've forgotten he's alive. sam and tucker have their own families and things to do. (sam is Jewish but her family was invited to a Christmas party and she's being forced to go.) so danny gradually just gets depressed and ends up deciding to spend the entire Christmas holiday in the ghost zone. he figures his parents won't notice and unfortunately... they don't.
which is sad. all his friends in the zone notice that despite the fact that he's trying really hard to have fun with them, he's sad. so a good chunk of them get together and decide to teach his parents a lesson as a gift to danny.
clockwork is a key player in this obviously for the past and future element. though i feel he'll be hanging back and letting the others be the guides. wulf is going to be the ghost of Christmas present to guide them around present time quickly. i want to say dora, kitty and johney, technus, and maybe the box ghost are gonna be out main players. ember, skulker, frostbite, and a few of the others end up playing distraction. they don't want danny to interrupt so they're keeping him busy in the zone in various ways. i have the mental image of ember taking danny on stage and making him sing. and skulker putting him through an obstacle course that pushes the limits of what's permitable by the truce. frostbite drags him into an ice sculpture contest. despite the chaos danny is having one of the best Christmas's he's had so far (sadly).
anyway naturally when they first encounter the ghosts they start blasting without thinking or question. technus is the important one here because he needs to take their weapons for the rest of the night. i want to say johny and kitty are acting the ghosts of Christmas past. and bickering the entire time but also doting over some of the couple stuff, and being pretty rude. i feel they might escalate one of their arguments and get pulled and replaced by dora, who handles the kids childhoods a lot more sensitively. she might get angry on danny and jazz's defense towards the end and dragon out, ending that segment before the portal opened.
then you have wulf guiding them around amity showing them their various friends and keeping them invisible. he doesn't speak english, and i doubt they speak Esperanto so he's kinda just stuck gesturing at vlad have a sad glass of wine with his cat and jazz trying to contact them from the airport. danny's empty bed, which draws attention to the fact that they have no idea where he is and makes them panic slightly.
then i want the box ghost to be the ghost of Christmas future. at least for a bit until clockwork ends up stepping in and spelling things out for them. i don't think this is a scenario where their world view on ghosts is rocked or danny is revealed. the ghosts are absolutely chaotic and dangerous as they try to teach the fentons. but they do figure out they need to focus more on their family at Christmas. especially if all these ghosts got past the security system!
they're probably going to revamp the system the next day. but the ghosts send danny out of the zone to celebrate Christmas day with his family. jazz manages to make it home for the day and they have a nice holiday. -Hestia

My first Phic Phight fic!
For @ecto-american’s prompt
His name was Danny.
That was the first thing he knew for sure was true, when he had first woken up it was what everyone called him, and it fit just fine, wasn’t something off or uncomfortable so he let it settle over him before he tried to speak.
His voice didn’t come at first, and it hurt to try so the nurses made him promise to take it easy for now, to sit back and listen. So he did.
He listened as the people around him spoke at length about how much they missed him, about how they couldn’t wait to get him home again, about how glad they were he’d survived.
The loudest and most talkative of the people that visited him and called him Danny, was a large man in an orange jumpsuit that went on long enthusiastic tangents that Danny had long stopped paying attention to. He was almost always with a smaller, authoritative woman named Maddie, who insisted He call her Mom. They told him they were his parents.
They told him they loved him.
And then they told him everything else.
The first time Danny remembered something it was with excitement, he was still in the hospital room and between the visits from the men in the starched white suits, his parents, and the doctor, he had been wrestling with the feeling that something was missing.
It had only been when Maddie had finally taken off the hood and goggles of her jumpsuit had Danny gotten a flash of familiar red hair and asked, “where’s Jazz?”
His heart buzzed at the question, sure, so sure that it would get answered, that he had remembered something.
But both Jack and Maddie had just looked at him, disappointed, and he couldn’t bring himself to ask again.
Eventually, once the doctor declared him competent and unlikely to slip back into his coma, his parents had taken him home.
There were streamers all over the house and a giant party banner that read “Welcome Back” in thick black lettering and Danny forced out a small smile as he looked around at the unfamiliar surroundings. Maddie walked up behind him and he flinched, his body acting before his brain could catch up.
She had frowned at his reaction, and when Danny, stuttering, tried to apologize she said it was okay, and with a tightlipped smile, she pulled him into a hug.
He forced himself to relax, frustrated with himself. This was his mother, there was no reason for his instincts to be so afraid. Jack had joined the hug and eventually Danny found himself relaxing for real, sure maybe getting his memories back was a slow uphill climb, but at least he wouldn’t do it alone.
Eventually his parents let him go and told him he was free to walk around the house and reacquaint himself with it. His room was the first door on the left upstairs, the bathroom was down the hall and the basement, apparently, was off limits.
So Danny went upstairs into his room. It looked something like a teenager’s room he supposed. There were the posters hung haphazardly on the walls and they were torn at the corners as if someone had ripped them all off the walls before hastily taping them back up. The bed was made too, and there was a lot less dust than he was expecting after being gone for a whole month.
In fact, it looked like he’d cleaned and organized the whole room before he’d fallen into his coma and Danny didn’t know why, but that thought set him on edge. Maybe he was just an organized person?
It was just… he didn’t feel very organized.
He kept looking around. There was that feeling that something was missing, something important to him, and he walked over to the nightstand by his bed. Placing a hand on the polished wood Danny fought the flash of a model spaceship that appeared in his memories. It wasn’t here though and Danny frowned. Was that something else he’d thrown away and simply forgotten?
Shaking his head Danny headed back downstairs, maybe he should just ask Jack, er, his dad? He should really get used to calling them mom and dad. But before he headed down he went to the room across from his and knocked.
Maybe he was being foolish, but he had expected someone to answer, had a name even come to mind. When no answer came he opened the door himself only to find a storage room, nothing but shelves and boxes and Danny scolded himself for the painful ache he felt in his heart.
It was another week before Danny had another memory, and just like the last two, it didn’t fit quite right. Like a piece from another puzzle jammed where it shouldn’t fit. So he’d asked Maddie.
“Sam?” she’d said, a carefully blank look on her face, “Oh! I remember Sam, she was an old friend of yours you used to talk about her all the time. Shame she moved away.”
And just like that, he’d had his answer as ill fitting as it was. Sam was a girl he knew that moved away, the memory he’d had, of her crying face screaming at him to stay awake just stay awake damnit, was probably from a long time ago. The pain he felt in his chest -just to the right of his heart- at the thought of her not being near and that he’d probably never see her again? That was nothing important.
It was another couple of weeks of sleeping in that house, waking up and going downstairs to eat with his parents, to chat about memories he didn’t have and tell stories he never resonated with, before he woke up screaming for the first time.
Maddie had instantly run into his room, Jack not far behind and Danny scrambled away from them both. His mind filled with images of painful green light and the ominous glint of red goggles twisting his reflection in their lenses as they looked down on him.
His parents had pushed past the barrier of pillows and blankets he’d made and pulled him into their arms, rocking him and shushing him until eventually he’d tired himself out from crying and fallen asleep again. The nightmares returned.
Eventually Danny stopped asking questions about his memories.
Either they were incomplete, fragments of something real that had been twisted in time, or they were wrong entirely, figments of his own active imagination. He’d never had a sister, they insisted. It was his mother, Maddie that had stayed up late some nights to help him with his homework and bake him safe, edible cookies as a reward. Tucker was a kid he knew at school, yes, but he’d moved away years ago and they hadn’t spoken in person since.
He had blue eyes, when he looked in the mirror, not green.
It was frustrating, being unable to trust himself- his own memories. If it was anything more than broken, incomplete fragments he’d have argued, insisted they were real.
But then again, he also had memories of Maddie leaning over him, scalpel in hand to cut away at his flesh. And he knew that couldn’t be true; the woman that smiled every time he came downstairs, called him sweetie and kissed him on his forehead every night, wasn’t the monster in his dreams. She couldn’t be.
So he ignored them.
He ignored the moments of instinct when Maddie or Jack went for a hug or a kiss and he flinched, ready for an attack. He ignored how he never seemed able to give a straight answer when they asked about his day, even if he hadn’t done anything interesting at all. And he ignored his nightmares, stuffing towels under his doorframe to muffle the sounds of his screams. There was no reason to keep waking up his parents like that.
But no matter how much he ignored, he compartmentalized, or he forced himself to smile, to hug back, and to spend time bonding with his parents, he never felt safe. Maddie insisted that he was, of course she did, this was his home. But even as he smiled and agreed and let her hug him again, he wanted to leave.
This time his dream wasn’t a nightmare. No scary, well lit labs with beakers and glowing buttons, or disgusting, painful flowers shoved into his mouth. Instead there was the ticking of clocks, rhythmic and constant. A gloved hand gently soothed his hair back, and Danny’s fear seemed so far away.
It was the first full night of sleep he’d had since he’d gotten “home”.
That morning he’d asked for an analogue clock. His parents had been confused, but they acquiesced easily and took him to the store to pick one out. The one he’d ended up choosing was a large ornate antique with little clockwork gears and a loud tick. He was excited to put it up in his room, right above his bed.
He slept better after that, and some of the tension that had been building in the house eased.
His dreams were still mostly nightmares, attacks by inhuman ghostly figures were the most prominent. But they didn’t leave the same bitter aftertaste, fear and uncertainty as the ones with the table, the scalpel, and the round, red goggles.
But now they were interspersed with better ones, fuzzy hugs and fields of blinding white, sitting in a garden pruning flowers as a soft, familiar voice gave him instructions, playing video games as the player character, confident and excited with a familiar presence at his back. And his favorite ones, the ones in the clock tower with the hooded figure and his soft smiles. The ones where he felt safest.
The ones that couldn’t be real, not if what his parents told him was true.
The next time they went out as a family after that Danny had wanted to go to a garden, and while at first Maddie was hesitant, Jack had insisted the great outdoors were perfect for helping him recover properly. Danny had been thrilled and hugged both of them in thanks, their answering smiles were soft and Danny had the thought that it had been some time since he’d seen those smiles reach their eyes.
Danny had a video game he apparently liked to play called Doom, and he was pretty good at it, judging by the level of his character. When he tried to message either of the two friends he had on his contact list though, the game glitched and his info got deleted. Frustrated he tried to reboot the system but the game itself had somehow gotten corrupted and there was no hope in recovery.
Just another thing that was apparently important to him that he’d destroyed or couldn’t find.
The worst was the time he woke with Maddie sitting next to him in his bed, she had a troubled look on her face and he didn’t know what it was he’d done wrong. Had he screamed in his sleep without knowing it?
“Danny honey,” she had said, looking over to him but not meeting his eyes, “do you remember what you dreamed about?”
He’d answered no, he hadn’t, which was mostly true. The only thing he really remembered about his dream was the feeling of safety and the ticking of a clock.
It took a month for Danny’s parents to feel comfortable leaving him alone in the house in order to go to work. He watched them walk out the door, fending off forehead kisses and muttered reassurances that they’d be home soon to check on him and that he should call if he needed anything, anything at all.
Once the door clicked shut however, the smile dropped off of Danny’s face and he set his eyes on the one thing he’d wanted… no, needed to do since he had that first nightmare.
He went to the basement.
The feeling of going down the stairs stumbled over a vague, blurry memory and Danny felt the hairs on the back of his neck stand. This was just to be sure, just to prove to himself that all those dreams, all those nightmares he’d been having since his parents brought him home, were just that, nightmares.
He opened the door at the bottom of the stairs, confused when there was no lock, no resistance at all. Hadn’t they said he was banned from being down here? Why wouldn’t they lock it? Even Bluebeard locked the door his wife wasn’t supposed to enter.
The basement was…
A basement.
There were no spooky ominous beakers of strange and unrecognizable fluids, no haphazard lab equipment lying around without safety devices, nothing sterile or blinking and there was certainly no large metal table to strap someone down on.
It was just a normal basement with boxes and a desk, some chairs, a couple of old pieces of random furniture and Danny let out a breath he hadn’t realized he’d been holding. This meant that Maddie was right, they really were just nightmares, probably some subconscious latent fear of going home with strangers that he couldn’t remember. That was all.
So why did he feel disappointed?
The next week was full of Danny waiting for his parents to leave before exploring the house more thoroughly. More than once he’d gotten caught in a half remembered routine that didn’t actually fit with his surroundings. Like bracing for a fight every time he opened the fridge, or expecting another flight of stairs after the second floor. Once he’d even risked going outside for a walk, trying to find his school based on half remembered directions that only served to get him lost.
It was a new routine that Danny found himself thankful for.
Not that he didn’t love his parents, he did! But for some reason, when they were gone, and it was just him with his space posters and his ornate ticking clock, and the piles of modified schoolwork that was supposed to help him when it was time to reintegrate into school, he felt a lot more relaxed. More carefree.
That was why, when he’d found the picture, it had felt like his world had crashed around him.
His parents had come home to find him sitting in the middle of the basement, tears long dried, and with the picture clutched tight in his hands, crumpled now with how long it had been.
“You lied to me.” he accused once they were within earshot. He didn’t have the energy to speak much louder than a whisper, but it seemed to echo in the silence nonetheless.
“Danny-boy we can explain-”
“No!” Danny shouted, getting to his feet, “You lied to me .”
Jack flinched back and Maddie stepped in front of him, protective, as if somehow, out of the three of them Danny might be the threat. He growled.
“I trusted you to tell me the truth, I trusted you with my memories, memories that were lost to me . I had a sister! You had a daughter . She existed, she was real, she’s in this photo! Smiling! ” Danny couldn’t hold back the tears anymore, it was all too much. To know that the girl in his shattered memories, the one with the soft hugs and the floral scents, that baked him cookies and held him when he cried at night, was real. And that she was gone, erased by the people he was supposed to be able to trust.
He moved to storm past them, to go upstairs or maybe even outside and look up at the sky and try to make something of the twisting, knotted mess that was his emotions, his mind, his everything right now. But Maddie grabbed his arm before he could, tears spilling from her eyes.
“We didn’t want to hurt you Danny.” she said, voice soft and broken, “we didn’t want to give and then take away.”
She pulled him into a hug and Danny didn’t bother to struggle or try and break out of it, just let her cry into his shoulder as he stood there, waiting for his own tears to dry.
The next day Jack and Maddie left for work with more reluctance, neither one willing to leave Danny on his own again. But worry didn’t pay the bills and whatever it was they were doing at their job, it was clearly important. That was something Danny was starting to remember, all the things that were more important than him.
Danny went to the library this time, determined to start figuring things out on his own. His parents had said that his sister, Jazz, had died in the accident that had put him in a coma. They said they didn’t want to hurt him, or risk him not wanting to recover his memories if they were painful and that grief was difficult to deal with even without the head trauma and emotional conflict.
His parents said a lot of things, Danny was starting to realize. And almost none of it could be trusted to be true.
The first thing he did was look for a death certificate for his sister, Jazz Fenton. After hours of searching, reading every single name that existed in every obituary for this town in the entire month when his parents claimed the accident had happened.
But there was nothing. Nothing at all.
So next he looked up phone records. Any Tuckers or Samanthas he could find, but he couldn’t remember their last names at all, just what they looked like.
How they had been crying over him.
He didn’t know if he believed that they’d just moved away. Then again, it was becoming increasingly clear that he didn’t know what to believe, if he believed anything at all. By the time he’d gotten home it was late, and his parents were already there.
At first they didn’t believe he was just at the library “trying to catch up on stuff” but they calmed back down once he’d shown them his library card and snapped that if he couldn’t even do that much why did they bother bringing him back from the hospital at all.
Dinner had been a quiet affair.
It took another week of library visits and recurring nightmares of dissection tables and glowing ghostly figures that attacked him before Danny gave up on finding out anything about Sam or Tucker. But he still didn’t stop searching for Jazz.
There was something almost obsessive about his search for her, he just couldn’t let it go. He had to know where she was, and if his parents, against all odds, hadn’t lied to him about that ... Well that was something he’d have to come to terms with when he came to it, not before.
He started scouring the Internet for her name desperate to find something, anything on her. And eventually he did.
There was an old article, from at least half a decade ago, that had her picture under the title “Four Teens go Missing in wake of Fenton Investigation”.
Next to her were two equally familiar pictures. Sam and Tucker… and then Danny himself.
Scrolling, desperate to find something, anything to add up the memories he was getting into a clear picture, he began to read the article.
In wake of the Investigation into the Fenton‘s possible abuse, Danny Fenton (15), his sister Jazz Fenton (17), and two friends Sam Manson and Tucker Foley (15), have seemingly disappeared.
The discovery came shortly after Jack and Madeline Fenton were released on parol and allowed to return home to spend time with their children since no physical proof could be found of any alleged wrongdoings.
What could have caused their disappearances remains a mystery. The prevailing theory is that they were involved in a cult that may have demonized the Fenton parents due to their controversial occupation as “ghost hunters”. Another popular theory is that the children fled the results of the case, afraid of the alleged illegal experimentation. Other theories include kidnapping, witness protection, the possibility of murder, and tying up loose ends.
Will we ever discover the truth? It remains to be seen.
Ghost hunters …
Danny felt his stomach drop, a wave of nausea rolled through him and he had to fight off the urge to relive his lunch.
Experimentation?
Nightmares and half remembered memories started clicking into place, finally , and Danny couldn’t stand it. Why were the only answers that made sense the ones that hurt the worst?
Would it have been better if he’d just let it go? If his memories never returned at all? If he just kept living, eating homemade cookies and flinching from hugs until eventually the itch underneath his skin dulled and he could just be happy as he was.
He closed the tab.
There was no one home when he got there, and it gave him the chance to pack what little belongings he had that held any meaning to him at all. The motions were familiar and he had the faintest feeling he had done exactly this before.
Maybe he had.
He’d made it out the front door by the time his parents pulled into the drive.
There was the urge to run, to go back inside and hide and pretend he hadn’t been doing exactly what they caught him doing. But he was tired. He was so tired of feeling wrong and scared and uncertain and never knowing why.
So he held his head up as they got into the car and approached them with their hands raised, cautiously, like he was a wild animal they were afraid of spooking.
Was that what they thought he was?
“Danny, we can talk about this,” Maddie said, beseeching.
He met her eyes with his own. “Will you promise not to lie anymore? I don’t even know how old I am-”
“You’re fifteen son-” Jack interrupted, lying again.
“I was fifteen five years ago!” Danny yelled, his hand tightening into a fist, “I found the article! I read about the case! Five years ago.”
“Danno…”
Oh, he was crying. It was novel almost, Danny had thought he was too tired to cry, that there wasn’t anything more that could hurt him enough to create such a response and he didn’t quite know how to react to it.
He raised his hands awkwardly to scrub the tears away and stepped back, frightened, when Maddie tried to move closer to comfort him.
“Stay back! Stay back…” he looked at his hands, they were young hands, his reflection too, hadn’t changed from the picture in the article at all. Experiments. “What did you do to me?”
“It was an accident.” Jack said, before Maddie stopped him with a gentle hand on his arm.
“We didn’t know Danny. How could we have?” She said, keeping her distance, cautious. “We tried to fix it-”
“Fix what? ” He hissed, “you haven’t told me what happened! You haven’t told me anything!”
“You!” Maddie finally snapped, tears falling heavy down her cheeks. “We were trying to fix you… but it wasn’t working and you just kept getting sicker… weaker… we had to stop.”
It was too much for her, and she turned away, leaning into Jack’s large frame as he comforted her. “We didn’t want to lose you, Danny.” He said, his voice barely above a whisper.
“You already did.”
Danny left his parents there, crying on the driveway of a house that could never have been a home. He had a clock tower to find.

Hmm I feel like we haven’t talked about Danny’s parents in the Spork AU enough
Like what if Normal Danny is close to his parents? Because now they aren’t constantly working on the portal they can spend more time with their kids and with everyone quickly realizing that ghosts are actually real, they aren’t total embarrassments.
And without the ghost & ghost hunters dynamic or any major secrets between them, Danny ends up actually bonding with his parents. And maybe Jack and Maddie end up realizing they fucked up as parents and take steps to remedy it however they can. They will never be perfect, but over time they become better.
While they screw up a lot, especially in the beginning soon enough they’re having family dinners almost every night. Soon enough they actually know their kids’ interests, their likes and dislikes. Soon enough their kids come to them when they need advice, support or just to vent about a bad day. They talk out their issues and frustrations. Soon enough they’re actual parents.
But then what if for Halfa Danny it’s the opposite?
Because what if it’s been years and he still hasn’t told his parents his secret? Between his parents hunting him, regular animated conversations about dissecting his ghost half at the dinner table, his own house being a veritable death trap for him and regularly running off for half-ghost shenanigans Halfa Danny’s relationship with his parents has only grown more and more strained.
Jack and Maddie become so fixated on capturing Phantom they both alienate and neglect their kids in the process, becoming worse parents. Family dinners go from once a week, to once a month, to pretty much never. Conversations are awkward and stilted, the kids don’t like ghost hunting and they barely know their interests. Jazz tells their parents the bare minimum and Danny never looks them in the eye and lies more often than not. Tension keeps building. Soon enough they’re barely parents anymore.
And then Normal Danny and co. are even more weirded out by Halfa Danny because he’s so jumpy and wary around Jack and Maddie. Danny is so close with his parents after all, what’s his problem?
When questioned about his own parents, Halfa Danny becomes visibly uncomfortable and quickly changes the subject, with some vague answer or some version of ‘it’s complicated’ thrown in. They’ve managed to glean that whatever Halfa’s situation is with his parents, it is Not Good. Theories range from that they’re dead, Halfa is a runaway and Halfa doesn’t actually have parents but spawned fully formed from the void.
When they learn truth though it’s gonna be… oof.
Love how the truth is worse than the idea of Ghostly Danny being a parentless entity that spawned from the void. Ouch.
Also, that makes me think. Is it just Normal Danny and his friends who know about this, or Normal's parents as well? If Normal is so close and trusting with his parents, he might not see any reason to keep Ghostly Danny a secret from them.

yall ready for some danny b lore?
first of all, yes, jazz in danny b’s universe has black hair! maddie and jack on the other hand are otherwise the same. jasmine also goes by “jazzy” here instead, canon jazz kinda hates it when DB calls her this out of habit (he apologizes)
moving on, danny in this universe actually has a sort of strained relationship with his family, even beyond the usual secret identity shenanigans. having a fire core and exhaling smoke as his ghost sense led to a lot more problems than a simple puff of frozen air. smoke is harder to hide and explain, not to mention DB’s sense is actually more sensitive than canon danny’s, he even releases more smoke in relation to how strong the ghost he detects is.
a LOT of misunderstanding comes from this ability. teachers, his parents, and other adults frequently caught 14 year old danny with smoke coming out of his mouth and took every action they could to stop that kid. his parents begged him to show them where on earth he was hiding his cigarettes, where and how did he get them, and just everything else under the god damn sun to open up about this nonexistent smoking problem that he doesnt have. but danny couldnt possibly explain why smoke would be coming out of his mouth without revealing his ghost half. in the beginning, he denied the accusations very strongly, but after so long he eventually accepts the narrative since he really couldnt come up with any other explanation.
the fentons decide to send danny to rehab after he “admits” to smoking after outpatient programs didnt seem to work (even jazzy supported it since it was before she learned his secret). he spends about 6 months in rehab, mostly because the staff kept thinking danny was somehow still sneaking in cigarettes (they ban sam and tucker from visiting after the first few weeks). he is finally let out after three months of both suppressing his sense and sam and tucker working overtime to make sure the rehab center was ghost free during the day. with no smoke and no withdrawal symptoms after a period of time, the doctors deem him recovered.
While in rehab, danny was easily able to sneak out at night as phantom. he still fought ghosts (both for his own smoke sense sake and for the general safety of the town) and built up his image as a town hero. fenton on the other hand became more distant than ever after he was finally let out. interacting with his parents was tense as both human and ghost, his peers regard him as an addict, and even jazzy watched over him with distrust instead of the usual helicopter concern. danny started to avoid everyone like the plague for a very very long time.
because of this newfound divide, jazzy actually discovers danny’s secret sometime when he’s 18 (it was during his high school graduation and jazzy was visiting from college to see it). much like canon, she waits for danny to tell her himself and pretends she doesnt know about it otherwise, but this time around it takes danny a whole 5 years to come clean about it. he’s gotten so used to being distant from his family, even with jazzy suddenly trying so hard to reconcile with him, its tough to break those avoidance habits. the siblings take their time reconnecting after this. soon, jazzy becomes the closest family member danny has.
over the years, danny has successfully learned how to completely suppress his ghost sense, feeling it as a hum in his core at best and a light cough in his throat at worst. he does carry around cigarettes now that hes legal age, but never lights them. its just a good excuse for him to let the smoke out, especially when no one questions the ever present beat up box that seems to never get replaced.
danny b is not on speaking terms with his parents anymore, especially not with this “smoking habit” he has apparently kept well into adulthood. he doesnt hold it against them, quite the opposite really, but he’s made peace with keeping his distance and feeling no need to tell them about his ghost half. in a way, he believes theyre just safer this way.
danny spent a good portion of his early life using phantom as an escape, but now in his 30s, he’s starting to grow tired. hes only 32, not as burnt out like movie peter b (who is 38), but eighteen years of ghost hunting will still wear you down. danny has sort of exhausted the thrill of it at this point, and actually finds more enjoyment out of his human half for the first time in his life. even if others assume he’s already sick of his job (with how laid back and lazy he is about it), danny really does take pride in teaching his students. mr lancer left a really lasting impression on him as a kid.
in a way, danny’s kinda finally getting his human life on track. his ghost after life, however, is starting to become lost.

A new Family
Ch.1  Ch.2  Ch.3 Ch.4 Ch.5 Ch.6  Chapter 7
Summary: Phantom likes his new suit; he doesn’t expect to be on the news the following day, nor do his parents.
Patrol, for one thing, is boring; flying around is one thing, stopping crime is another.  “So we just wait, boring,” Timberwolf grunts; he doesn’t like the wait either, but ever since his debut, it’s been quiet.  “Only the crazy ones come out at night, and to answer your question on Bruce and me, yes.”  Phantom blinks, then smile, “Sam and Tucker owe me twenty bucks each,” Timberwolf rolls his eyes; of course, the bet would happen.  Phantom shoots up suddenly, looking toward the east, “I hear something.”
Both waist no time, heading toward the noise; they stop at a steeple overlooking the bank below.  “Wait, let’s see what happens,” two minutes go by, then a fog glides out of doors.  “Vaporgust,” both look at each other, Phantom shrugs, “Some news is worth watching.”  Timberwolf drops down, Phantom invisible behind him, “Vaporgust.”  She looks up; her face is barely recognizable, “Stand down, Vaporgust.”
“Or what, gonna haul me off to that bio-chem lab joint in Gotham?”  Phantom appears behind her, “No, he’s just getting tired of your game of stop the crook,” she spins around.  “Oh yeah, short stack.  You need to learn some manners,” her hands form into balls of air, swinging down.  Phantom catches the balls, using his cryokinesis to freeze her; she screams, morphing away.
Both run after her, “Phantom,” Timberwolf hands over some capsules; Phantom channels his ecto-ice into the capsules.  Vaporgust blasts them with hot air, sending them flying; Phantom inhales.  Timberwolf throws a small disc, releasing a powerful octave wave; Vaporgust screams.  “Now, Phantom!”  Throwing the capsules, they shatter at the frequency, spreading the ice into her gustly form.
A light shines on them; both look up; above them is a news helicopter from WRAL Raliegh.  Phantom waves, “Come on, let’s get going,” both mount the approaching motorcycle.  Phantom sighs, changing back into Fenton; Timberwolf smiles, pulling into the den.  “Come on, let’s get to bed,”  Daniel says, having removed his suit; Danny sighs, leaning against the older man.
The morning sun rises above the Romanova household; Daniel makes his coffee.  Ellie and Danny enter the kitchen; following them is Jazz.  “Good morning, you lot; breakfast is in five minutes after this cup of coffee.”  Jazz grabs some plates from the cabinets, “Brother, sister, help set the table first.”  Both groan, grabbing silverware from the drawers; Daniel opens the fridge.
“French toast, anyone,” Daniel cracks some eggs, whisking them in the bowl.  Jazz places down the final plate, glancing at the TV; Timberwolf and Phantom are on screen.  “Guys,” the others look over; Jazz increases the volume.  “This was the scene moments ago, Amity Parks’ very own Phantom fighting alongside Timberwolf.  Not much is known as to why Phantom was with Timberwolf last night, but Vaporgust is now receiving treatment for the unexplainable powers she has gained.
However, one question remains; why is Phantom in North Carolina, and is this team-up permanent or temporary?  I’m Aggie Grace of WRAL in Fayetteville.”  It cuts to commercials; Jazz turns to the men with a glare, “How come I don't have a new suit too?”  All three look at Ellie, Daniel smiles, “Because you were unexpected, but you’re still joining us in Gotham.  And Jazz, I wanted to spend time with Danny alone, and he proved he can handle his against ghosts and criminals.”
Jazzs’ glare falters, earning a sigh, “I’m not surprised by both of you and thanks for giving us a roof to live under.”  Daniel hugs Jazz, the older sister huffing against him, “You have nothing to thank me for, any of you.”  Danny and Ellie enter the embrace, he holds them close.  “Besides, the house gets quiet far too often for my liking.”  A quiet voice speaks up; Daniel stiffens at the words, “Thank you, Dad.”
Amity Park
07:14
Maddie sets the table, “Jack, can you,” a picture of Phantom startles her.  She calls for her husband, “Jack, get up quick.  Phantom is on TV.”  The oversized man enters the kitchen, guns at the ready.
I’m Aggie Grace of WRAL in Fayetteville.”  Maddie rests her hands on her hips, “Timberwolf, what does Phantom want with them?”  Both stiffen, “Phantom is overshadowing them; last time we fought, he could clone himself; he must’ve duplicated before the overshadowing occurred.”  Jack runs down to the lab, “The Fenton peeler should work in this case, don't you think, Maddie!?”
Amity Park- Mayors Mansion
When Vlad awoke that morning, he made himself some tea, turning on the news.  His tea is discarded at the picture before him. I’m Aggie Grace of WRAL in Fayetteville.”
As the screen cuts, Vlad hums to himself, “Why would he be there indeed?”  A Cheshire cat-like grin spreads across his face, “Time for some Fenton TV.”  The screen glitches, revealing the Fentons’ lab; ignoring them, he skips before Phantom flees.  He regrets it, that’s for sure, seeing as the two ‘guardians’ treat Phantom like a non-emotional being.  Thank goodness for Jasmine, saving her brother from what could’ve been the end of his half-life.
Ghost Zone
09:15
The master of time, Clockwork, hovers before the looking glass, seeing a stunning image.  A smile spreads across his face; even if young Daniel would try to stuff him in a thermos, his new fate is sealed.  Standing between Nightwing and Phantom are the mentors, Timberwolf and Batman.  Each side has a group of teens; Canary, Polly Geist, Techie, and Ivory Oak are standing next to Phantom.  Just behind them is, supposedly, the former future evil self of Phantom, Dan Phantom.

Danny Fenton loves his parents. he does, really! sure, he cringes when they tell him about their newest project, he chuckles under his breath when someone at school pokes fun at their latest failed attempt at catching Phantom, whatever. Danny Fenton loves his parents.
Danny Fenton hates the scientists, Madeline and Jack Fenton. well. hate is a strong word. fears? despises, for making his home life a live-wire of tension and a slip up from dissection? that about summed it up.
he was scared to step an inch out of line and his parents didn’t even know they’d drawn that line there. it was like he was doing a tightrope walk for a blindfolded audience. but, in this case, they'd kill him if he fell (if the fall didn’t first). Danny knew that, in all but the absolute best circumstances, this would not end well. he had no outside perspective on his situation though so all circumstances seemed risky at best. so he still kept up the walk.
he wasn’t one for psychological profiling. Jazz did it to him enough without his knowledge that he hardly needed to see a psychologist for that. he could just knock on her door and say "what’s wrong with me?" and she'd give him a bulleted list. maybe she'd even recommend coping methods. he was pretty sure he'd developed some kind of stress disorder over the years. any murmur, any loud noise, any hint of anger in a remark not even directed at himself, his brain would always so readily translate 'you made them mad. you're in for it now. they're after you now.' it was nauseating to sit through while his mind spiraled into a concealed panic. he would just sit there and wait to be attacked. the blows never came. he was still just regular, human boy, Danny Fenton. (for now.)
even before the distinct sizzle of an ectoblast, the smell of ectoplasm in contact with something it should not contact, became engrained into his instincts. even before then he was always a little...scared of his parents. maybe it was the goggles. or how they chose to hunt something they were so certain was a wholly malicious and incredibly dangerous race of being. maybe it made him nervous how easily his father's hugs could crush someone his size. How readily his mother pulled a gun when she suspected spectral activity. ’they’re perfectly harmless! These cant hurt humans at all, only ghosts, don’t worry, Danny!’
Danny dealt in a lot of maybe's these days. some nights when he would lie in bed, feeling like his heartbeat was maybe gone, he would hear what sounded like his name from his parents' mouths downstairs. then he would feel his heartbeat start again. maybe.
when did it happen, how every time you hear them speak about you, to you, you fear for the worse? (there were empty bottles of ibuprofen in his desk drawers, for migraines and the ache of fresh injuries.)
Danny understood deep down, this pressure had been building for years. (his parents' research was still far from the truth but going down a dangerous path in its misunderstanding.) it wasn’t a matter of if, he always felt it coming, a blurry shape on the horizon. it was when. - Maddie Fenton knows there is something wrong with her son. no, not in a mean way. he looks fine (usually), he acts friendly and normal (for him) and well. he's Danny! she's sure he's Danny. but sometimes he- he didn’t look like how she remembered.
day-to-day, he was her son, he looked exactly how he always did. but sometimes it was like he was someone entirely new. like over the last 3 years there had been an imperceptibly small change made every day and in those single, staticy moments, she could see the difference. maybe it was a trick of the light. maybe she had missed her son growing up, spending all her time on researching to the point that she paid no mind to her own family.
she was proud of her work. she loved her work so, so dearly. but- she still felt guilty when she'd notice ‘oh Danny’s so tall now’ (he's been this tall for years) ‘oh Jazzy's hair looks so nice tied up like that’ (she’s been wearing it that way for months). she had the constant aching pull in her gut, that she had missed her children growing up. that they went from babies to practically adults and now she hardly knew them because they didn't fill the role they used to.
it made her sick to think she needed her children to fill a role for them to feel like her children but, here she was.
there was a disconnect between them from so early in their childhood and it only grew when Danny entered highschool. she'd assumed at first that it was just a teenager thing, distancing oneself from your 'nutjob ghost hunter' parents and feeling rebellious. she knew she’d been wrong then but Maddie Fenton, though a seeker of knowledge, was stubborn in her feelings. rather, she didn't want to acknowledge what she noticed. she didn't want to examine what was wrong.
Maddie Fenton knows there is something wrong with her son. and shes scared, not of him, but what she'll have to do if she ever says it out loud. it would be real then. Maddie Fenton was scared of herself, and that made her sick. - Danny came home at 8 pm. his skin was blistered and his shirt was stained. brown-red blotches, a spray on his chest and sleeves, large drops dried around the neckline. the blistered skin; puffy, pink, and peeling on the back of his left hand, arm, fingertips- good god, what happened to him?
the question was on Maddie's lips when Danny spoke up instead. he'd closed the door behind himself in the time she'd taken evaluating his appearance. she'd forgot to even remind him what time it was.
"there was a grease fire at Nasty Burger. someone poured water on it." his tone was so much flatter than Maddie was used to from her son. no humourous lilt, just... empty. she felt like he wasn't even seeing her when he looked up. It was like he’d been reminded of something he’d have rather forgotten a long time ago.
"oh- oh no Danny, we've gotta get that arm patched up and- what's... the stuff on your shirt?" her words betrayed her discomfort but Danny showed no sign of minding her tone. (please don’t be blood. please d-)
"some sauce packets got squashed and sprayed all over me and Tucker. I think this is barbeque?" he scraped at the stain below his collar as he walked to the cabinet in the kitchen that a first-aid box was kept in (there were plenty in the house, most of which Maddie didn't remember buying but was grateful for nonetheless when she needed one).
she made a start to help with the box, knowing Danny’s hand was hurt, but he was already deftly applying antibacterial gel and wrapping the skin gently. he hardly even winced. Maddie felt a hollowness wash not over her, around. like fog rolling in, separating her from what she was seeing. she distantly wondered how often her son must get hurt to be so good at this. how often she didn't even notice he was in danger.
Maddie Fenton loves her son, her family means the world to her and she would protect them through hell and high water. but now she was realizing, through her instinct and her doubt- do I know my son? - Madeline Fenton loves her son. and she fears what she doesn’t know. - Danny Fenton loves his parents so, so much. and he's terrified of what he knows so very well.

*Throws a oneshot at my followers, beans one of them in the head, then leaves.*
.
.
.
Ever since the Accident, everything had felt different.  Way different.  Maybe part of that was the whole ‘nearly caused the death of best friend, but apparently holes in the universe can give you superpowers’ discovery.  Sam still couldn’t get the sound of Danny’s screams out of her head, and it had been over a week.
Although it was possible the nightmares contributed to that.
Yeah.
Anyway, being concerned (not necessarily worried) about Danny and Tucker all the time was normal after something like that, right?  They hung out all the time before, what was a little more?  What was a lot more?
(It annoyed her parents.  They complained that she was never home.)
So, yeah.  Normal. Trauma response.  Also, Danny needed someone to pull him out of the floor when he phased partway through it or (ironically) hide his sudden spurts of involuntary invisibility.
If that were all that had changed, Sam wouldn’t have thought twice about it.
But she was curled in front of her computer, writing the fifth email haranguing a school official about having a vegetarian week next year.  It was nearly eleven.  This was not normal behavior.  Not even for someone who was avoiding sleep.
She’d also been spending more time in her greenhouse, lately, and had been getting in more (and louder) fights with her parents, but she wasn’t sure if those two things weren’t just stress (or being a teenager).  Even factoring in how long she’d spent getting the fertilizer around her tomatoes just right.
(The only reason she’d stopped was because she would have been late to meet with Danny and Tucker otherwise.  And she was still stressing about it.  She hadn’t gotten it quite even around the last plant.)
Back to the emails.
She’d been thinking about proposing some changes to the school menu.  The vegetarian options were laughably limited, and the monthly plan had been the same since the fifties, it looked like.  It was actually sort of impressive that it had held up for so long, given all the school lunch reforms and programs the government had done over the years.  Whoever had put it together had really cared, Sam decided.
But it wasn’t good enough.  Not anymore.  People knew more about food, now, and whoever was in charge of inventory had contracted with the absolute cheapest suppliers.  Everything they made was full of preservatives.
It had to change.  Now.  Before Sam and her friends were forced to deal with it.
She’d started the project the night Danny got out of the hospital.  She hadn’t been able to sleep then, either.
How many emails had she sent, in total?  It had to be nearing fifty.  That one night, she hadn’t slept until four in the morning.
She probably wouldn’t sleep until then, today, either.
This couldn’t be normal, right?
(Since when did she care about being normal?)
.
Tucker scanned through the programming tutorial with an almost fevered fervor.  It wasn’t quite what he was looking for, but he was more than ready to drink in any information he could.
He had always loved technology.  Especially hand held technology.  This was about that, but also not.
Danny had shown him and Sam the portal because they were curious.  Sam because ripping a hole to the afterlife sounded metal, and Tucker because Fenton tech was cool.  Even if the ghost stuff never worked, the Fentons did live on Jack and Maddie’s patents.
‘Because it was cool’ was a really stupid reason to die.
If Tucker had known more about engineering, about programming, about the tech he had begged to see, if he could have properly read even one of the dials and instruments attached to the portal, would he have noticed it was still powered up?  That electricity was running through it?  That it was a death trap?
(Sure, Danny had grown up around Fenton tech, and between the two of them, he had been the one more interested in the engineering side of things, but that didn’t matter.)
Tucker was determined not to let that happen again. Hence his current course of study. He was going to know everything about technology, all technology, or die trying.
Well.  At least the technology he interacted with on a daily basis.
If that meant losing even more of his eyesight as he labored over poorly formatted readme files at midnight, then so be it. His friends were worth it.
.
Danny jolted into wakefulness with a gasp, his heart hammering.  He was freezing, despite being wrapped in his sheet and comforter, despite how hot it had been when he went to bed.
Something was wrong.
Immediately, his thoughts jumped to his family.  Something was wrong.  They were in trouble.  He had to help.
In a daze, he phased through his blankets, barely noticing that this was the first time his ghost powers had done what he wanted and exactly what he wanted.  He padded out into the hall, not noticing that his feet weren’t leaving impressions in the carpet.
Jazz slept with her door open, so it was easy to check in on her.  She was safe. No mysterious shadows menaced her as she slept.  Her breathing was slow and even.
His parents?  He crept towards their door, part of his mind whirling while the other was deadly sharp.  How could he protect them without revealing his… whatever this thing that had happened to him was?  That he would have to protect them, that he could protect them, that thought went unchallenged.
He put his head against the wood of his parents’ door and let his fingers skim the surface.  He inhaled, exhaled, and stepped through the solid object.
Jack Fenton’s snores were deafening.  Neither he nor Maddie stirred.  Nor did they notice that their room was bathed in dim green light.
Danny’s eyes locked on to the green blob’s pinpoint red ones.  His lips drew back, and he hissed, his eyes burning oddly as he did so.  The little… ghost?  Was it a ghost?  It fled from the room.
Whatever was going on with Danny’s brain settled into a kind of contentment.  Right up until he realized he was in his parents’ room and had no reason he could give them for being there.
Getting the very squeaky door open so he could get out again gave him five separate heart attacks, even if his parents couldn’t hear him.
.
“Hey,” said Sam, as they met in Danny’s room the next morning.
“Hey,” echoed both boys, tiredly.
“Trouble sleeping?” she asked.
“Yeah,” said Danny.
“Same,” said Tucker.  “You, too?  Your makeup is heavier than you usually do it.”
Sam stuck out her tongue, then sighed. “Yeah.  Have you guys…”  The question trailed off, and Sam’s face twisted.
“Have we what?” asked Danny.
“Had any, like… weird thoughts?”
Danny scrubbed a hand through his hair.  His friends did not mention that he briefly flickered out of sight.  “I mean, I did di—almost die, I guess?” said Danny.
No one mentioned this slip, either.
“That’s…”  Danny’s voice went soft.  “I’m not like Jazz, or anything, but that’s trauma, right?  Like, feeling weird or overprotective or… or whatever, it’s just… That’s just how it is?  It’s a—a normal response?”
Despite Danny’s uncertain delivery, Sam and Tucker both nodded.
“Yeah,” said Sam.  “That’s all it is.  Okay.”
(They did not think of this moment again until they discovered the term liminality.)

Help me
Description: Emma is with Phoenix when she is kidnapped, can Bravo set aside their emotions in time to save her, or will they be too late...
A/N: I wrote some things like this over on Ao3 under “FourthWallHateClub”, this will eventually have a second part but with my ADHD I don’t know when that will happen 🙃 please feel free to send feedback on the fix, I know it’s shit but I live for shit so 🤭
@rebelreblogs
Emma's POV
Darkness... Floating... Silence... My eyes fluttered open and started to adjust to the light... where was I? The door slammed open,
"You're awake!" Was that... was that an Afghan accent? Then it all came back to hit me like a freight train...
48 hours before hand
"Sup Dalton." I said.
"Shut it Hayes." He said pissed off.
I turned to Mac with a questioning look, "Who pissed in his coffee?"
Mac smirked, "Don't take it personally, he's not pissed with you, he's pissed with Maddie. He was on his way to a football game with one of our old delta buddies when he got the call."
"It's..." I glanced at my watch, "1300 hours?"
"We we're gonna have a few beers!" Dalton groaned.
'More than a few.' I mouthed to Mac, he just coughed to stifle his laugh.
Matty walked in, tapping the glass creating a privacy screen, and clicked a button bringing an image up on screen. "Amir-Botzwat-Asharu."
"10 of clubs..." I breathed out in disbelief.
"International arms dealer, drug trafficker-"
"and grade-A prick." Jack stated matter-of-factly.
Mac snorted, "You can say that again."
"The guys been evading Phoenix since it was OPS, us personally for years, why are we concerned about him now?" I wondered.
"What's this got to do with us, CIA took over the case, why now?" Jack asked.
"If you’d let me talk, you’d know,” Matty said sarcastically, “He recently kidnapped and murdered an American. Phoenix have had him on our radar for a while now as you’re aware but the higher ups refused to green light the op to take him out, saying CIA had it handled. That all went to hell when their undercover agent was exposed, they shot him and put a bounty on everybody CIA affiliated."She said.
"We're on their SOS list Matty, we outrank some shitty little 'bounty' list." I said.
"Regardless, you, Dalton and MacGyver leave for the Middle East at 1600 this afternoon so you arrive at night, get your affairs in order because the big men upstairs say you don't leave till the jobs is done. You'll be properly briefed on the plane, but there are more pressing issues, you guys have up to date parachute qualifications right?"
"I don't like where this is going..." Jack mused.
"Me either..." Mac agreed.
"As much as I hate agreeing with you two shmucks, me three..." I said.
"Well whether you like it or not your jumping from that plane, there's no where for it to land where you'll keep your cover. Unless you want to walk 13 miles to where you'll be staying?" She challenged.
"WE'LL JUMP!!" We said in unison.
She smirked, "That's what I thought."
"Okay... where exactly are we going in the Middle East, and where are we staying?" I asked.
"You are going to Afghanistan."
"Fucking Trashcanistan?!? You've got to be kidding." Jack screeched.
Ah Dalton and his hatred for that place... he would get along with Uncle Sonny, man has a fear of bloody everything...
"SHIT!!" I yelled.
All heads snapped to me, "What's wrong Hayes?"
"Um... where exactly would we be staying?" I asked biting my lip.
"Navy base in J-"
I laughed nervously, "Would that be in J-Bad by any chance?"
"Yes, why?" Matty asked.
"We have a little problem..." I mumbled.
"And what would that be..." She mused, raising an eyebrow.
"My uh- my family was spun-up there a few weeks ago." I said.
"What do you mean Em?" Mac asked.
"I mean my family, is Bravo team. They are currently in the Middle East, and are stationed in J-Bad for the foreseeable future. What do we do?"
"I'm assuming that they were not among the people you told about your job?" Matty asked.
"No ma'am. Mac, Dalton, Bozer and Riley are the only ones who know..." I answered.
"You arrive at night anyway, you cover your tracks and stay as hidden as possible, don't talk to anyone and stay away from the sailors. Nobody is to know what you're doing there or who you are... to them you three are Black Rose, Hunter, and Eagle." Matty said.
"Yes ma'am."
"Well... get out of here."
We didn't need to be told twice, we were running out the door and to the squad room.
"What the fuck do I do?!?" I yelled as we entered the room.
"Want a hug?" Mac asked opening his arms. I nodded and walked into him tucking myself into his figure, "You'll be ok."
Jack's POV
"Wait! Is your dad the Jason Hayes, like Bravo 1, the legend?!?" I screeched.
"Uh- yeah.." Emma said pushing away from Mac and scratching her head.
"That explains a lot..."
"What do you mean?" She was confused.
"I mean, having worked with your father, I see where you get it from."
She laughed, "You are so old."
I gasped, "You mean we are so old. Mac and I worked together in the Army."
“No. You? You're old enough to be my dad. Mac? Is old enough to be my big brother." She laughed.
"Yeah, and we'll protect you like it too." I said hugging her shoulder.
"You won't have to do anything if my family spots me. I'll be on the first plane out of there and back home, complete with a tracker and navy seal protection detail. They'll never let me out of their fucking sight." She grumbled.
"You'll be ok. Let's get ready to rak out." I said.
"You're right."
I walked into my office and grabbed my rucksack and duffel. I met them back in the main room.
"List it Hayes."
She groaned, "Why???"
I smirked, "We're acting like the older brother and dad we are."
She rolled her eyes but spoke anyway, "I made sure my camping gear, fatigues and survival gear was in my bergan, along with Guns, ammo, knife and spare phones," we looked at her weirdly, "What? I'm sick of Mac breaking my shit. Dalton and I spend way to much fucking time at the Genius Bar creating new and inventive covers to explain what Mac does as is."
Mac raised his hands, "You got me."
She smirked, "I know I do, anyway, I grabbed my go-bag, passport and fake ID's."
"What's in your go-bag." I quizzed.
"Toiletries, Clothes, Cash, Raincoat, Matches, Lighter, Laptop, Flashlight, MRE's, water purification tablets, rope, duct tape, whistle, batteries, knife, and First aid kit. Why do we keep doing this?"
"Good, and we do it because we care." Mac said kissing her head.
“Ugh! Let's go." We headed out to Mac's truck and dumped our stuff in the back. She hopped in the back and we drove to Mac's place.
"Bozer!" Mac called.
"Sup guys." He said bro hugging Mac.
"We're heading out, I need you to take care of some stuff for us." Mac asked.
"Yeah ok, let me grab some paper." He said.
We walked into the kitchen and told him what we needed, Mac didn't need to worry because he lived with Bozer, so Em went first, "My rent is due first of the month, it auto pays but I need you to check on the seventh if I have mail just in case it didn't go through. I need mail collected on the 7th, 14th 21st, and 28th. Plants need to be watered but that can be done when you grab my mail, if anything happens there is a contact sheet folded in the draw of my desk, it'll tell you who to call, in what order. You good with that?"
"All good Em." He said with a smile.
"Thanks Boz."
"Your welcome, Jack anything you need." He questioned.
"I live next to Emma so same as her just no plants to water, if you could check on my place when you water Emma's plants that would be great, and there is a contact list in the box on top of the CD rack."
"Cool, I got it."
“Thanks Boz." Mac said walking back into the room with his bag.
"It's all cool man." He said.
We walked to the door before he called out, "Be safe, I want you back in one piece."
"We'll try Boz."
~Time skip brought to you by Sonny’s Bam-Bam~
We'd been briefed and where currently in our hammocks grabbing what sleep we could before we hit the ground running.
"Drop zone is up in 35."
"Let's go kids." I commanded with a laugh.
We packed up our hammocks and pulled on our jump suits. I strapped my duffel to the bottom of my bergan and grabbed my chute. Strapping my Bergan to my back I pulled the parachute over the top. I walked over to the ramp and waited for Mac and Em to join me.
"2 minutes to the drop zone"
"Ready ladies." I yelled over.
"We're coming." Mac laughed.
We attached to the central line and clipped in, we watched as the light turned on and the ramp lowered,
"5...4...3...2...1..."
The light turned green and we jumped. My drill instructors voice went through my head. Breathing Dalton... in for 2... hold for 4... out for 3... parachute in 3, 2, 1. Pull the cord. Release the parachute. Move your body vertical. Feet pointed down. Legs slightly apart. Hit the deck in 3...2...1. Land crouched. Bend knees and run forward 20 yards. Unclip and pull.
Emma and Mac landed next to me and we packed up our chutes.
"Base is roughly 1 click 228 degrees north east." I said.
"Comms up?" Mac asked.
"Yeah they are." Matty answered.
"Good." I said. "Let's go."
We moved our bergans to our fronts and held our duffel bags. We broke out into a jog eager to get out of the heat. Arriving at the 'base' we were met with our assigned CIA handler.
"Agent Jayden Riggs." He said offering his hand.
I shook it, "I'm Eagle, this is Hunter and she's Black Rose."
"Real names?" He asked.
"That's need to know." Emma answered.
“What do you mean, I'm your handler?"
"Look Riggs, we don't like spooks ok. We work alone, off our own intel. It's important our identities remain a secret." She answered shortly, that's my Hayes.
"Alright then, let's get you set up in cabins, Black Rose, you'll be separated from the men." He said as he started walking away.
"What?" I said.
"Gender sensitivity. Men and women are separated." He said like it was obvious.
"Yeah no, she stays with us. We don't care about gender sensitivity." Mac said before I could, reel in the big brother before you get yourself in trouble Mac.
"It's protoco-"
I cut him off, "Screw protocol, Black Rose stays with us."
"Of course." He relented.
He led us to a cabin as a humvee pulled up, out climbed 6 men and a dog, all in fatigues, before I could see anything else Emma pushed us into the cabin and slammed the door shut behind us as we collapsed onto the floor.
"What was that??"
"That! Was my family." She helped us up.
Jason's POV
We were on night patrol in a neighbouring town to J-bad, we'd been out for 6 hours and it was 0300. I decided it was time to head back.
"Let's move out."
We walked back to the humvee and climbed in. We'd been driving for about 15 minutes when we saw three figures drop from the sky.
"What the hell is that?" Sonny asked.
"I'll find out." I said keying my comms, "Havoc base this is Bravo 1, we've got three parachute jumpers coming towards base."
"Copy that Bravo 1, I'll find out." Blackburn answered, a few minutes later he keyed his coms again, "Stand down, their friendlies."
"What do you mean their 'friendlies'?"
"I'll find out."
I rolled my eyes, cryptic much. We watched as they landed about 5 clicks ahead of us and packed their chutes away, then started running towards base.
"We're not far out now. We'll talk when we get in." I said.
We got to the base gate and rolled through, getting out I saw three figures standing outside a cabin glance at us before one pushed the others into the cabin and slammed the door. Weird. After we dumped our gear in the shed. We walked into the team room where Eric and Mandy were waiting.
"Who were they?" I asked.
"Apparently they work for some government agency, they're following a lead on a case." Mandy said.
"Which agency?" Brock asked.
"I don't know guys. I don't know..." Eric said.
"Why did they jump Eric? Why not just land on the airstrip?" I quizzed.
"Apparently they're meant to be discreet. Nobody was supposed to know they're here." Mandy said.
"Well they did a crap job of that." Ray said.
"Actually Ray, you guys weren't meant to be out tonight, had base been on routine nobody would have seen them come in." Eric spoke.
"Well that's creepy." Clay said.
"What do we know about these guys Mandy?" I asked.
"Two guys, one girl actually." She stated hint of amusement in her tone.
"A girl?!?" Sonny yelled.
"What? Don't think women can do the same jobs as men? Or are you just worried she's going to outshine you." Lisa interrogated.
"No but if she gets snatched we'll be the ones collecting her." He grumbled.
"So? If she's snatched it's going to be for bad intel, and unfair conditions. Not because she's a woman." Lisa challenged.
"Enough! What do we know about them?" I yelled.
"Their handler couldn't tell me much, mainly because he didn't know a great deal. However, their code names are Black-Rose, Hunter and Eagle. Their handler doesn't know their real names and I suspect that's by design." Mandy spoke.
"Ok. First off those why do those code names ring a bell, Second what do we know about the organisation they work for?" Clay asked.
"Honestly? Nothing. None of my bosses know who or what they are and the further up I went the more I was told to stop digging." Mandy said.
"So what do we do?" Trent asked.
"We stay away. We don't talk to them, not only for your safety but for theirs too. You see them walking you say nothing, although I suspect given all the trouble they went to so they weren't seen while getting here, we won't be seeing an awful lot of them." Eric mused.
"Alright then." I said clapping my hands, "We need to sleep." I turned to Eric, "I trust if you find anymore information that could be of use you'll speak to us?"
"Of course." Eric said nodding curtly before walking out of the room.

Warnings: swearing, some playful touching....
Word Count: 11k
All you wanted to do was change into comfy sweats, pour a heavy glass of wine, and forget about the awful week you had at work. But of course, there had to be something else to make this day even worse. When you were about 5 minutes away from your apartment it started down pouring. You cursed to yourself and picked up the pace.
Once you were in the comfort of your building, you let out a sigh of relief and made the trek up to your apartment. When you stepped out of the elevator you were met with a smiling face, one that normally would melt all of your worries away, but today, it only helped a little. You forced a smile back when his smile turned into a concerned frown.
"What happened to you?" He asked, stopping in front of you.
"I got caught in the rain on the way back from work."
He nodded and grabbed the bags out of your hands so you could unlock your door.
"Thanks, Tyson." You said with a small smile, hoping he would leave you be now. Normally you would welcome his company, but you really wanted that glass of wine and quiet night in by yourself. But it wasn't looking like that was the case when he strolled over to your fridge making himself at home. But that didn't stop you from wandering down the hall and taking a warm shower. Maybe then he would get the hint?
Nope. When you walked back out to the living room he was cozied up on the couch. A little bit of your annoyance dissipated when you saw the two wine glasses on the coffee table in front of him. So you grabbed one and plopped back into the couch.
"Rough week?" He asked, grabbing the other glass.
"You have no idea."
"I'm sorry, you wanna talk about it?"
"Not really.…" you sighed, "no game tonight?"
"Nah, we're leaving for a road trip tomorrow."
"Ohh nice, where to?"
"We're going to Florida."
"Ugh, I'm so jealous. I would love some nice weather right now."
Tyson chuckled, "yeah it might do you some good. You're looking a little pasty."
You rolled your eyes and pushed him playfully. "I meant mentally, but thank you for that."
"I know, I'm just messing…" he said patting your thigh "…are you sure you're okay?"
You sighed, "yeah, I just had an awful week at work, and my family has been harping on me a lot lately and I'm just over it all."
"I'm sorry, Y/n/N, what's going on at work?"
"My coworkers are just the worst. We had a huge project due this week and it seemed like I was the only one doing anything. And of course they got all of the credit. But it's fine, things should be better next week."
"What about your family?"
"Where do I even start…lately it's just been about me not having a boyfriend. I just don’t understand the fascination with my love life. My cousin is getting married soon and they really want me to bring someone…but like who cares? I'm 23, I don't see the urgency. But I also don't want to get shit for it the whole weekend. I don't know, whatever, it'll be fine, I'm just annoyed right now."
"When is the wedding?"
"A few weeks from now…why?"
"Is it the All Star break?"
"Ummmm…." you said while checking the dates "yes…why?!"
"I could be your date if you wanted…"
"No, Tyson, I can't ask you to do that."
"You're not asking, I'm offering."
"I don't know, Tys…"
"Come on, you'll have good company, you won't have to hear about how single you are…"
"Wait, you want to go as my boyfriend?"
"Well I don't think going as your friend would help…"
"You'd really do that?"
"Yes! I want to."
"Alright.…I don't know if it'll work, I'm not sure my family will even believe me."
"Oh, we can make it believable."
You eyed Tyson suspiciously but then gave in. "Okay…alright. I owe you big time."
"Let's just see how the weekend goes…" Tyson said with a smirk.
The rest of the night was spent watching New Girl. Tyson kept refilling your glass and you ended up pretty tipsy. Before Tyson left he helped you into bed and locked up your apartment on the way out.
~~~~~
The next morning, you woke up with a headache, cursing yourself for getting wine drunk. You loved being wine drunk in the moment but hated the hangover. You also cursed yourself at the thought of the little plan you and Tyson had come up with the night before. It's not that you weren't excited to spend an entire weekend with Tyson, it's just that you were pretty nervous about the whole thing. You had grown very close in your time as neighbors, but it was always just as friends. You'd be lying if you said you didn't have a crush on Tyson, but you always kept it to yourself because you didn't want to ruin their friendship, not to mention you didn't think you were his type. You were also nervous about your family buying their 'relationship'. Not only had you been telling your family that you were still single, but they would never believe that you were dating one of the Colorado Avalanche.
You tried to push it from your mind and focus on getting rid of the hangover. You made your way to the kitchen and guzzled down a glass of water accompanied by a few Tylenol and then rummaged through the fridge to make something to eat.
You posted up on the couch after you ate and watched movies all day. You were able to be a bit more productive on Sunday and cleaned your apartment and went grocery shopping for the week.
~~~~~
You didn't see Tyson until Wednesday night. He had texted you earlier in the day asking if you wanted to get take out. When you got home from work, Tyson was already in your apartment with the take out.
"I could kiss you right now, I'm starving." You said as you dropped your bags on the floor and sat down at the table."
Tyson smirked, "it might be good practice…"
"Oh my god, I actually kind of forgot about that…we should talk about our game plan."
"Yes, I like to excel so I need everything there is to know about your family so I'm fully prepared."
You rolled your eyes, "of course you do…well, I mean how long have we been dating for? I've been telling my family I'm single, but I'm sure I could come up with some excuse why I haven't told them."
"Yeah, it might be kind of weird to take your boyfriend of two weeks to a family wedding…"
"Okay, so how long do you think?"
"6 months?"
"Is that too long?"
Tyson shrugged, "I don't know, I think that's fine."
"Alright, and I think we should stick to saying we met through being neighbors."
"Good idea, less room for slip ups…what are you going to use as an excuse for not telling them?"
"I guess maybe that I wanted to feel things out and also because you're kinda famous?"
"Kinda?! I'm hurt."
You giggled at Tyson's dramatics. "Okay, sorry, you're famous. Fully famous."
"Much better…so let's start with the family lessons. I know you have 3 brothers, Charlie, Ben, and Jack. Your parents are Kate and Steve… but I think that's all I got."
"I'm impressed! Yes, Ben is the oldest, he's a lawyer, he's married to Hailey who is a nurse. Charlie is next, he's a teacher, he's engaged to Casey, who is also a teacher. Then there is Jack, he's in his second year of med school and his girlfriend is Carly, she's a physical therapist. Then my parents, Kate and Steve. My dad is a lawyer, Ben works at his firm. And my mom is a nurse. Do you want me to write this stuff down?"
"No way, I'll get it. Just keep going."
"Alright...the cousin that is getting married is on my dad's side. His name is Tom, his fiancé's name is Lauren. Tom does something with finance, I'm not exactly sure what, and Lauren is a social worker. Tom has one sister, Maddie, she's an aspiring actress…" Tyson stifled a laugh at your face when you said her occupation. "My grandparents are Dave and Shelly, they're both retired, but my grandfather was a lawyer, it’s his firm that my dad and Ben work for. And I think I can just introduce you to everyone else as we go…"
"Alright, got it."
"Do you?" You questioned, not believing him.
"Okay, fine, not yet. But I will."
~~~~~
The next few weeks went by faster than you had wanted. As the wedding grew nearer you became more and more nervous. You had let everyone know that you would be bringing your boyfriend, and of course, the questions rolled in. You told them what you had practiced with Tyson, you weren't sure where things were going to go and didn't want to get their hopes up, and because he's a professional athlete you wanted to make sure everything was sound in their relationship before you went public. Although your mom was upset that you didn’t confide in her earlier, they were happy that you had found a boyfriend. It definitely made you feel guilty for lying, but you were able to get over it.
A few days before you were leaving, you went to Tyson's game. You weren't able to go all of the time, but you had a blast when you did. You had become friends with a few of the WAGs and of course a bunch of the guys.
They were all going out after the game to celebrate the beginning of the All Star break and Tyson had invited you to go so you went down to the locker rooms after the game to wait for him.
"Y/N!" You turned at the familiar voice and smiled and gave Andre a hug.
"Hey, Burky, good game!"
"Thanks, are you coming out with us?"
"I am!!"
"Good, Tys is more fun when you're around." He said, winking. You laughed a bit before a few of the others guys joined and talked about the plans for this evening.
A few minutes later, Tyson came up behind you and wrapped his arm around you.
"Hey, Tys!" You greeted him happily.
"Hey, babe." You rolled your eyes at his choice of words. "What?! I'm just trying to get into character." He defended, which made the guys laugh. They all knew about the arrangement and most of them were hoping this weekend would be the push you needed to actually date.
"You ready?" Tyson asked. You nodded and bid farewells until later.
Tyson drove you back to you building and you split ways to get ready.
"How long do you need?" He asked.
"I'll be ready in like 20??"
"Alright, I'll come over in a half hour." He said chuckling at himself, which caused you to roll your eyes but nod your head and go inside.
An hour later you were making your way through the crowd at the club to find everyone else. Tyson had gone to get them drinks while you sat down next to EJ and Landy. Landy was grilling you about the weekend, him being the number one supporter of you guys actually dating. Luckily he let up a bit on  you when Tyson came back and started in on him.
You kept downing drinks as the night went on and ended up being very drunk. Tyson had to help you through the club and he pretty much carried you to your apartment. He was nervous to leave you alone, so he ran over to his apartment to change and came back to stay with you for the night.
~~~~~
The next morning, you groaned as you peeled your eyes open. You were slightly confused about the arm draped over you because you didn't remember talking to any guys at the club. You relaxed when you looked over and saw that it was Tyson.
"Good morning, sleeping beauty." He said with a smirk.
"Morning….what are you doing here?"
"You were pretty loaded…I was nervous you might throw up in your sleep so I stayed with you."
"Oh, I'm sorry, I really didn't mean to get so drunk…"
"I know, it's all good. You just will really be kicking yourself in the car today!"
"Ugh, don't remind me." You said and rolled back over.
"10 more minutes! Then you need to get up and get ready." Tyson reminded.
"Okay, mom." You muffled into the pillow as you fell back asleep.
An hour later you had the car packed up and were on the way. Thankfully, Tyson offered to drive, knowing your current state and just the fact you didn't love driving anyway. You played the music, luckily you had similar taste, so you jammed out for most of the 4 hour drive. You also quizzed him on your family, and just as he claimed, he remembered it all.
Tyson noticed that you had grown quiet in the last half hour. He reached over and grabbed your hand.
"Hey," he started softly, "it's going to be fine."
"I know, I'm just nervous. Even though they're happy I have a boyfriend, they can be so critical and rude. I'm going to apologize in advance for anything that they say."
"I think I can handle them…I'm used to criticism."
"I know…I just, even though we aren't actually dating, you are one of my best friends and I don't want them to scare you off."
"Don't worry about that…I'm not going anywhere." He said and gave your hand a gentle squeeze before pulling it away. You smiled at him and started to realize that this might not have been the best idea for your sake. You had been able to keep your feelings at bay, but this weekend might change that. You push those thoughts out of your mind as Tyson pulls the car into your driveway. You panicked a bit when you saw all of the cars in the driveway. It had been your understanding that Jack was going to be the only of your brothers home tonight and everyone else would be over tomorrow. Tyson noticed your panic and grabbed your hand again.
"What's wrong?"
"My mom told me Jack and Carly were going to be here tonight, not everyone else…"
"Well that's okay, we'll get it over with."
"I know, I just wasn't prepared for this. I'm sorry, I'll stop freaking out."
Tyson chuckled, "don't apologize. But don't worry either, okay? We got this." He reassured you and kissed your forehead. You blushed at the act, you guys had cuddled before and obviously shared the same bed, but this felt different, and it just made you even more nervous.
You both got out and grabbed your bags before approaching the door. You didn't even have time to put your bag down when it burst open.
"Y/N!!! I've missed you so much!" Your mom exclaimed while giving you a tight hug.
"Hi, mom, I missed you too." Once she let go, she turned to Tyson and you introduced the two. "Mom, this is Tyson, Tys, this is mom, Kate."
"Oh, it's so nice to meet you!!!" Your mom exclaimed again, pulling Tyson in for a hug.
"It's nice to meet you too, Mrs. Y/L/N. I've heard so much about you."
"Oh, please, call me Kate." She said as she let go. "Well, come in! Everyone's dying to meet you!"
You glanced at Tyson and he winked in return. You followed your mom inside and you put your bags down and went into the living room where everyone was sitting. Tyson put his arm on the small of your back and you leaned into him as you walked into the room.
Your brothers all shot up and surrounded you in a hug, separating you and Tyson. You rolled your eyes but laughed and welcomed their embrace. Once they finally let you go, your dad stepped up and gave you a hug and kissed your cheek. "Hey, baby girl. It's nice to see you."
"It's good to see you too, dad, I've missed you." He gave you one more quick squeeze and let you go so you could introduce Tyson to everyone.
"Well, everyone, this is Tyson…" At this point your brother's partners had joined them. "…Tyson, this is my dad, Steve, Ben and Hailey, Charlie and Casey, and Jack and Carly."
Tyson shook all of their hands as you went down the line.
"It's nice to meet you all." Tyson said with a smile.
"It's nice to meet you too, we're glad she's finally bringing someone home to us!" Your dad joked, causing you to roll your eyes.
"Okay, well, we're gonna bring our stuff upstairs. See you in a few." You said grabbing Tyson's hand and dragging him back into the hallway.
"No funny business!" Your brother Charlie called, laughing at himself. You heard Casey scold him and smiled to yourself.
You led Tyson to your old room, telling him you'll give him a tour once you put your bags down.
"That wasn't so bad…" He said as you plopped down on the bed.
"Yet…it's been 5 minutes."
Tyson chuckled and cupped your face with hands, "hey, what did I tell you? Stop worrying."
"I know, I know. I just can't help it."
"Come on, let's go. I'm ready for the grand tour." He said taking your hands and pulling you up. You sighed, but obliged and led him out of the room.
"….and this is the kitchen!" You said as you finished the tour. Your mom smiled at the two of you as you entered the room.
"Your home is very beautiful, Kate." Tyson said to your mom.
"Oh, you're too sweet…do you mind helping me finish up dinner, Y/n/N?"
"Sure. Tys do you want to help?" You asked, not really wanting to throw him to the wolves with your brothers in the next room.
"Yeah, I'll help. What do you need us to do?" He asked sweetly.
"Can you two finish putting the salad together? All of the stuff is on the counter over there."
You nodded and went to the sink to wash your hands and then you and Tyson started cutting up vegetables. You actually were having a lot of fun, Tyson was trying out some of his new jokes on your mom, which she loved. The whole scene felt very domestic, and of course you couldn't help but think about your feelings for him. You were brought back to reality when Tyson gave you a questioning look and mouthed "are you okay?" You forced a smile back and nodded and went back to cutting vegetables.
Once the three of you finished up, your mom called everyone into the dining room for dinner. Everyone took their seats and dug right in.
"This is delicious, mom." Jack complimented with his mouth full. Everyone chuckled and agreed, your mom blushing from the compliments.
"Well, I had good helpers." She said acknowledging you and Tyson. You both smiled and went back to eating.
You were starting to get nervous because your brothers hadn't really said much to Tyson. They had always been very overprotective and tried to scare off the guys you brought around and even though Tyson wasn't actually your boyfriend you were really nervous for what they might say. You knew better than to think that maybe they grew out of that stage, so it just made you more and more anxious for when it was going to come.
You caught Jack's gaze and he gave you a devilish grin. You gave him a warning look but he just shook his head. This was it. It was coming and there was nothing you could do to stop it. You looked at Tyson and he gave you a small smile and squeezed your thigh under the table.
"So, Tyson…" Charlie started "…hockey, huh?"
You shot a glare at your brother but he just smiled sweetly.
"Uh, yeah, I've played ever since I was young."
"How reliable is it to play professionally?" Ben asked this time.
"Ben…" Your mom scolded.
"It's okay, that's a fair question." Tyson defended. "I would say it's pretty secure, as long as I'm playing well and staying healthy."
"What happens if you get injured?" Jack asked.
"Well, if it's minor I'll get treatment until it's healed and then start playing again."
"And if it's not?"
"Well, I guess, I'd be done playing hockey."
"Okay, that's enough." You said glaring at all of your brothers.
"We just want to make sure you're in good hands, Y/n/N." Jack said sweetly.
"I'm perfectly capable of taking care of myself with my own salary, so Tyson's job security shouldn't be of concern." That shut them up for a little, but you knew they weren't done. Not with this dinner and certainly not for the rest of the weekend. Tyson squeezed your thigh again, that definitely being his way of telling you not to get too worked up.
Thankfully, your mom changed the subject to talk about plans for the weekend, but that didn't hold for very long.
"So, Tyson…" Jack started this time "…it must be pretty demanding being a professional athlete, do you even see Y/N that much?" You shot him another glare but he just kept smiling.
"Yeah, it can be, we live across the hall from each other so I pretty much see her whenever I'm home."
"Why does it matter to you how often we see each other?" You asked.
"We're just looking out for you, Y/n/N." Charlie defended.
"Well stop, you're just being rude."
"Alright, let's not fight at the table…" Your mom stated, trying to keep the peace. "Hailey, how are things at the hospital?"
You were thankful she changed the subject again, but you still weren't convinced it would put a total end to the grilling.
And you were right, a few minutes later, Jack spoke up again.
"Tyson, you must have a lot of girls after you, being a professional athlete and all."
You didn't even give Tyson the chance to defend himself before you lost it.
"Are you kidding me right now, Jack?! I cannot believe you would even ask that! Can you not be a dick for like one fucking weekend?!" And you stormed off up the stairs.
Tyson excused himself and followed after you. You sat on the bed, too mad to even cry, which you were thankful for. It was embarrassing enough that Tyson just had to sit through and witness what just happened.
"I'm so sorry, Tys." You apologized as he sat down next to you.
"No need to apologize, Y/n/N. It's not your fault your brother is a dick." You cracked a smile at his comment.
"I just didn't think he'd be like that. They've always been super overprotective, but that was just too much."
"It's really okay. Honestly, I can't say that I wouldn't have asked something similar to my sister's boyfriend. I get it. You're their baby sister, they just want what's best for you. I can take their crap, alright?"
"You're too good." You said with a huff, which made Tyson chuckle.
"Only for you, babe." He said and kissed your forehead. You both settled back on the bed and he tucked you into his side.
A little while later there was a knock on your door. You sat up a little bit and told them to come in. It was your mom.
"Hi, sweetie. How are you doing?"
"I'm fine, I just wish Jack wasn't such an asshole."
"I know, I'm sorry, and I'm sorry Tyson that he was acting that way."
"It's okay, I understand, I have a younger sister."
"Well, I think he feels bad he upset you like that…"
"Good." You stated, causing your mom and Tyson to chuckle.
"Alright, well I just wanted to make sure you were okay. Goodnight, you two."
"Goodnight, mom."
"Goodnight, Kate."
"I, um, don't usually freak out like that so, I'm sure it really made them feel bad…" You stated.
"Yeah, now I know to never piss you off."
You laughed at Tyson and cuddled back into his side. "That kind of freak out is reserved for my brothers. You probably won't ever be on the receiving end."
"Good to know." He said chuckling back. "You wanna watch New Girl?"
"Sure, I'm gonna go get changed first."
The rest of the night was spent watching Netflix, cuddled up in your bed. No apology from Jack but you didn't really expect one. He'll probably half ass one in the morning, and you'll forgive him, you always do.
~~~~~~
You were right. When you went downstairs for breakfast, it was just Jack in the kitchen. He looked over at you and held his arms out, signifying a hug. You looked at him and raised your eyebrows, awaiting those magic words.
"Come on, are you really going to make me say it?"
"Yes! You were so awful last night. You really owe an apology to Tyson…"
"Fine, I'm sorry, Y/n/N. I took it too far."
"Yes, you did. But I forgive you…as long as you cool it for the rest of the weekend!"
"I will, I promise."
"Thank you." You beamed and gave him a hug.
"Aww, how sweet!" Charlie cooed as he interrupted you and Jack.
"Hey, I think you and Ben also owe her an apology."
"No way, we didn't take it as far as you did." Charlie defended just as Ben walked in.
"Yeah, I agree, we were pretty mild." Ben agreed.
"Would it really be that bad to apologize to me?" You asked, fully knowing the answer.
"Yes." Ben and Charlie answered at the same time.
You rolled your eyes but went about your business.
"Where is lover boy anyway?" Charlie asked.
You shrugged, "still sleeping."
"Not out for an early morning run?" Jack teased, you rolled your eyes again.
"Stop!! You said you'd cool it!"
"Relax, I'm just teasing."
You rolled your eyes as you sat down at the table and your brothers joined around you.
"But seriously, Y/n/N. Are you happy?"
"Yes, Ben, I'm very happy. He's really good to me."
"Okay good, then we're happy. But as soon as he does something to hurt you…he's done for."
"I know, I know. Although…he is a professional athlete, are you sure you could take him?" You teased.
"Please, it's no contest." Charlie defended which made you laugh.
Just as he was about to throw a grape at you, Tyson walked in the kitchen.
"Good morning, Tys!" You called from the table. He came over and sat next to you and greeted your brothers. "Are you hungry? I can make you some eggs, or we have cereal, I could make pancakes?"
"How come you didn't offer to make any of us that stuff??" Jack whined. You just rolled your eyes and looked back at Tyson.
"I'll have some eggs, but I can help you." He said and the two of you got up and started cooking.
Everyone else ended up joining you in the kitchen so you ended up making breakfast for everyone else too, but you didn't mind. It was fun to hang out with everybody and you were glad that your brothers were done with third degree.
After breakfast you and Tyson went back upstairs to showered for the day. You wanted to show him around your hometown and have a chill day because the next two days were going to be filled with wedding stuff.
When you walked back into your room after your shower, Tyson was lying on the bed looking at his phone. You were just in a towel and while you and Tyson were pretty comfortable with each other, you expected him to go take his shower so you could change. He looked up at you and smirked when he saw your attire.
"You gonna give me a show?"
"Tyson!" You cried. "We're at my parents…and it's 10 in the morning."
"So you're saying you would though?"
"Seriously, that's what you took from that?"
Tyson smirked at you and moved to get off the bed. You watched him as he rummaged through his things and then started to move past you to go to the bathroom. Just as you thought you were safe, he slapped your ass and hurried out of the room. You gasped, though it wasn't very hard, you were not expecting that. You wanted to mad but you couldn't help but smile. If he wanted to play it like that this weekend, you were gonna give it right back.
You decided to only get half-dressed to start…you put on a sexy bra and super cheeky underwear. Once satisfied with your look, you laid down on the bed and waited for Tyson to come back. You didn’t have to wait long, a few minutes later you heard him opening the door.
"Hey, do you know if there is anymore-- whoa." You smirked at the thought of Tyson's face, you couldn't see because you were lying on your stomach so your ass was showing. What you didn't bargain for was for him to be so composed and not let it get to him. So just as you were about to turn around to see what he was doing, you felt a much harder slap to your ass.
"Ow, Tyson! What the hell!"
"Hey, you put your ass out here like that…I can't help it." He smirked and plopped down next to you.
"You're the worst." You grinned as you got up to finish getting dressed.
"You ready?" You asked a little while later after both of you had gotten dressed.
"Yes ma'am, let's get to it. Lots of history to see."
"History? I would hardly call this town historical."
"Yeah, your history." He said with a sweet smile. Your heart melted and you were really starting to wonder if you would make it through this weekend.
You started off by showing him the spot where everyone went to party, you didn't stay long because it was pretty cold, but he thought it was funny that a random spot in the woods was where you used to get drunk. "Hey, you do what you gotta do in a small town." You defended before moving on. You then took him by the high school, you couldn't really spend much time there either because kids were in school. Next you brought him 'downtown'. You walked around going into different little shops and boutiques. Then you brought him to your favorite place to eat for lunch.
The two of you talked a lot about high school and how different it was for both of you. You had never really talked much about your past during your friendship so it was nice to get to know each other a little better.
"So, tell me all about high school Y/N." He said once the two of you had ordered your food.
You sighed, "what do you want to know?"
"I don't know…were you popular? A jock? A nerd?"
"I mean…I guess I was popular…I played sports, I wouldn't identify as a nerd but I did do well in school…"
"Wait you played sports?"
"Yeah, soccer, hockey, and lacrosse."
"I'm sorry, what? You played hockey?? How come you never told me?"
"I don't know…I guess it never came up."
"We talk about hockey all the time…"
"Yeah, you playing hockey…professional hockey…not high school girls hockey. Besides, I really wasn't very good soo..."
"So what?! I can't believe you didn't tell me…I'm taking you skating as soon as we get back to Denver so you can show me your moves."
You shook your head, "nope. No way."
"Why not?!"
"Because I'm really not very good, and that's why I've never mentioned it because I knew that you would make me go skating with you."
"Oh come on, I seriously doubt you're that bad."
"Compared to you, yeah, I am."
Tyson rolled his eyes. "You are so ridiculous…so what else did you do in high school?"
"Well, I was in chorus…and don't ask me to sing for you because I will not be doing that."
"Come on, you're no fun." Tyson whined.
You laughed at him and shook your head, "yeah I guess I left all of it here."
"Anything else that I don't know about you that you want to share with me?? Crazy ex boyfriends?? Girlfriends??"
"I guess I should probably tell you…I do have an ex who will be going to the wedding…we dated for a few years but he was kinda shitty.."
"Shitty?"
You sighed, not really wanting to get into it but you knew that you should give him an explanation because you really didn't know what would happen this weekend. "It was a pretty unhealthy relationship…of course I didn't really know that at the time. It wasn't until I went off to college that I started realizing that something was wrong. I tried to end things while I was away but he wouldn't really let it happen so I tried again when I went back home for break and he, like, freaked out…and um, hit me, so I called my friend to come get me… I was able to get out of the relationship with some help but nothing ever really happened to him because I guess he was having drinking issues…"
"Wait, he hit you…and your family is still bringing him around?"
"Yeah...my uncle is really good friends with his dad so…"
"I'm so sorry, Y/n/N…are you gonna be okay this weekend?"
"It's okay.…it's been a few years now. I haven't really seen him much, I usually avoid the gatherings he goes to. I'm not really sure what will happen this weekend…"
"Well I won't leave your side the whole time. I'll protect you."
"Thanks, Tys. I'm actually so thankful you came with me this weekend."
"Of course. You do so much for me all the time…it's the least I could do."
Even though he meant that in the best way possible, and despite all of the flirty comments and advances, it just reinforced that he really was just here as your friend.
You spent the rest of lunch talking about random stuff. Tyson took his phone out and started taking a picture of you.
"Stop! What are you doing?" You said covering your face.
"Put your hands down!! This is great lighting. Smile, look cute."
You relented and let him take your picture. "You better not put that anywhere."
Tyson smirked, "too late."
"Tyson! I’m gonna kill you." You checked your phone and sure enough he tagged you in his Instagram story.
"It's fine, you look really pretty!"
"Okay, but you have so many followers! They're going to think we're dating."
"We are...aren't we?"
You rolled your eyes and focused back on your food.
"I can take it down if you really want me to, but that might look extra sus."
"No, it's fine. I just will kill you if you do it again."
There wasn't really much else to show him so after you finished you headed back to your parent's house.
Your parents were the only ones home so you greeted them and headed up to your room. Tyson went to the bathroom so you took the opportunity to change into some comfy clothes and put on Netflix. You didn't acknowledge him when he walked back into your room but he had the same idea you did, he stripped down and put on some sweats before lying next to you in bed. Normally you would snuggle up next to him but you decided you needed to start distancing yourself a bit otherwise you were going to end up getting hurt.
You ended up falling asleep and woke up an hour later and woke up with your head on Tyson's shoulder. Figures, you knew that would happen. You turned your head and noticed that he was asleep too and he had wrapped his arm around your waist. You sighed as you grabbed your phone from your nightstand and settled back into bed, not wanting to wake him up.
You opened Instagram and were met with hundreds of notifications. Luckily, you were private, but you had a ton of follower requests. Thanks, Tyson. You scrolled through them, most of them being random girls, a few cute guys that you took the chance and let them follow you. There were a few people with the little blue check mark, mostly other guys in the NHL, but one in particular caught your eye. Mat Barzal. You knew that Tyson was friends with him, and you'd be lying if you denied thinking he was attractive. You had always had a little crush on him, so you accepted his request and kept scrolling through. A few minutes later, you received a DM from Mat. Your heart started racing as you went to open it.
Tyson didn't tell me his neighbor friend was so cute ;)
Okay, now you were freaking out, you did not expect that. Obviously Tyson had told him that he was going to a wedding with you. But it was also more proof that Tyson thought of you as just a friend. I mean, he would have told Mat that he liked you, right? You were interrupted from your thoughts by Tyson shifting next to you.
"Who's that?" He asked groggily.
"Um, no one." You said quickly exiting out of Instagram.
"Obviously not." He said grabbing your phone from your hand and getting out of bed.
"Tyson! Give me my phone back."
"I just want to see who's DMing you." You tried grabbing it from his hands but he held you back with one arm. "Mat?" He asked, growing serious.
"You're the one who posted the story…I'm getting lots of requests from guys in the NHL."
"But Mat?"
"You're acting as if I have any control over this."
"You know he's my friend right?"
"Tyson, he messaged me, I don't know what you want me to do."
"Are you gonna respond?"
"I don't know, I don't really know what to say back to that."
"Do you want to?"
"Well I don't want to be rude, but if it's going to bother you I guess I won't."
"No, I'm sorry, you can respond. I guess it just caught me off guard." He said giving you your phone and leaving the room.
You huffed and sat down on the bed. You were so confused. Why would Tyson react like that if he just liked you as a friend? This weekend was really messing with your head and you were kind of regretting bringing him with you. You had already accepted that you should get over your feelings for him, but now you were worried that it was going to mess with your friendship.
You contemplated what to say back to Mat. You didn't want to upset Tyson but you also didn't want to leave him on read, it might be kind of awkward if you guys ever met in person.
Tyson came back a few minutes later and seemed to be in a little bit of a better mood.
"Did you respond?" He asked, sitting down next to you.
"Not yet, I don't know what to say…any ideas?"
"You wanna mess with him a bit?" He asked with a smirk.
"I don't know, Tys, I don't know him."
"But I do…he'll think it's funny."
You sighed and handed him your phone, "fine."
Tyson took it happily and started typing away.
"What are you saying?" You asked, trying to look over his shoulder. He moved the phone so you could see it.
You know Tyson?
You looked at Tyson quizzically, "where are you going  with this?"
"I'm gonna make it seem like you don't know who he is."
"Tys, that's just mean."
"Relax, it'll be fine."
You only had to wait a few minutes before he replied again.
Wait, Tys hasn't mentioned me?
Tyson started laughing when he read it and you just rolled your eyes, wishing you had never agreed to this.
No…sorry :( Tyson cackled as he sent back,
"It’s not as funny as you think it is, you know."
"Oh, it's hilarious."
Damn, well then I guess I'm gonna have to get you to fall for me all by myself
You laughed as you watched Tyson react to the response.
"Guess that didn't work as well as you thought it would." You teased, grabbing your phone.
"Wait, let me say one more thing!!"
"No, you've done enough. I'm telling him it was a joke."
"You are absolutely no fun." Tyson whined.
You shrugged, "sorry!"
Hey, I’m so sorry, Tyson saw that you DM'd me and thought that it would be funny to mess with you…
I know who you are haha
Of course he did…what a relief though, you are very pretty I would love to meet you sometime :)
I'm sure we could make that happen…as long as Tyson doesn't get in the way.
"What are you saying?" Tyson asked when he saw you grinning at your phone like a teenager.
"Why must you know everything?"
"Because you're both my friends…"
"Fine." You said and showed him what you said. "Looks like you have to introduce us."
Tyson rolled his eyes, "we'll see."
You chose to just ignore him because you didn't want to argue anymore.
"We should probably go socialize…" You said sighing and getting up.
Tyson let out a sigh too and rummaged through his things to find a shirt to put on. Once he put one on the two of you headed downstairs.
Your mom, Casey, and Carly were in the kitchen getting started on dinner. You asked if they needed help but they said no so you went into the living room where your dad, Jack, and Charlie were all watching TV. You took the open loveseat and Tyson put his arm around you and you cuddled into his side. Although things were a little weird between the two of you, you had to keep appearances up. There wasn't much talking going on, although you were glad that your brothers were being pleasant with Tyson.
Tyson was focused on the TV while you were scrolling through Twitter. You hadn't even noticed that Tyson was now looking at your phone with you until he squeezed your shoulder and laughed at the tweet you just liked. You relaxed a little bit more in his arms, glad that things were becoming more comfortable again.
Dinner was much better than it was the night before. Everyone was laughing and making jokes, no one was grilling Tyson…
You helped your mom clean up while everyone else went into the living room to set up for a game of charades.
"So, how are you?" Your mom asked.
"Um, I'm good…why?"
"What? I can't ask how you are?"
"Well, you can, it just seemed a little out of the blue."
"I haven't really had any time alone with you…"
"I know, I'm sorry. I just worry about leaving Tyson alone with them…"
"How come you never told me about him?"
"I told you mom, I didn't know if things were serious or not, and we wanted to keep it kind of private, hockey fans can be crazy."
"I know, but I'm your mother. I want you to feel like you can tell me things like that."
"I do mom, I really do. I'm sorry, I should have told you earlier."
"Things are good with you two?"
"Yeah, why?"
"Things seemed a little tense tonight…"
"We just had a little disagreement earlier, but it's all good."
"Okay...he seems like a really great guy, Y/n/N, and the way he looks at you…it reminds me of how my father looked at my mother…he's really in love with you sweetie. I hope this works out for you two."
You smiled sweetly at your mom and gave her a hug, even though that was the last thing you wanted to hear right now. At this point, you had stopped getting your hopes at little signs because they never ended up meaning anything.
Once you were finished cleaning up, you and your mom joined everyone else in the living room. You sat down next to Tyson and he put his arm around and kissed the side of your head. You were not looking forward to this game, your family was very competitive, and although you knew Tyson was too, it could get out of hand pretty quickly.
You were split into two teams, thankfully you were with Tyson, Charlie, Casey, and your dad. Jack and Ben are the worst to have on your team because they are the most competitive and they get super pissed when you're not performing well. Your dad and Charlie were also really good at charades so you'd probably win.
It actually ended up being a lot of fun. Thankfully, Jack and Ben didn't get too worked up and of course everyone was drinking so everyone was laughing and having a good time. Your parents called it quits when Ben and Hailey left to go back to their house. The rest of you stayed up and talked for a while before everyone slowly tucked in for the night.
When you and Tyson finally laid down you were exhausted.
"Well tonight went much better than last…" Tyson said, pulling you closer to him.
"Yes...thankfully. I was a little nervous, Jack and Ben can be a little crazy when it comes to games."
Tyson chuckled, "you're one to talk…"
You scoffed, "hey! I am not that competitive."
"Um, I have a monopoly board that would say differently."
"Oh my god, okay, I was really drunk…I don't usually get like that."
"Whatever you say…"
You shook your head and reached over to turn the lamp off.
"Do we have to be up early tomorrow?" Tyson asked.
"No, I don't think so. I think we have to be at the church by 3."
"Perfect, I want to sleep in, I'm exhausted."
"I know, me too."
"Are you gonna sleep in?" He asked, wrapping his arm around your waist.
"I'm gonna try…why?"
"It was hard to keep sleeping once you got up…"
"You want me to stay in bed until you get up?"
"Pretty please?" He asked, sticking his lip out.
You shook your head and chuckled, "yes, I can do that, but not if it's super late!!"
"Okay, deal. Night, Y/n/N."
"Goodnight, Tys."
The next morning you were kicking yourself for the deal you made. You were so tangled up in Tyson it was going to be impossible to even move. You tried to carefully grab your phone so you could see what time it was. 9 am. You relaxed and began checking all of your social media. You were careful to avoid your DMs, you didn't want him to wake up and see anything that would upset him. Although you still wanted to know why he actually cared so much about Mat messaging you.
A little while the arm around your waist tightened and Tyson's head poked up.
"So much better when you're in bed with me." He said groggily. "…just wish we were naked."
"Tyson!" You said shooting up to a sitting position. You looked over at his smug little face. "You are such an asshole."
"You love me." He shrugged, putting an arm around you.
You rolled your eyes, "you disgust me."
You laid there quietly for a few minutes before Tyson spoke up again, "you ready for today?"
"Pretty sure that should be a question for the bride…"
“`Yes but the whole reason I’m here this weekend is to help you get through it.” “Okay, yeah...I’m sure it’ll be fine. Seeing you with me should shut everyone up.”
A smug grin appeared on Tyson’s face, “I can’t argue with you there…”
You shook your head and laughed before growing serious again. “I just am a little nervous about seeing Jake...I don’t know if he’s still drinking and I’m worried he’s going to cause a scene.”
“Well if he does than fuck that. It won’t be your fault either so don’t feel bad if he does.” “I know, it’s just, everyone has always pitied him and let things slide because he’s an alcoholic. I just don’t think my family will see it as his fault...they’ll blame it on me for bringing some new guy around even though that’s all they talk about. I just can’t win with them.”
“Okay, well let’s not get too ahead of ourselves here. Hopefully everything will be fine and we won’t have to worry about it. If it does, we’ll deal with it then, okay? Just try and relax and have fun. Weddings are supposed to be fun.”
“I know...thanks, Tys. I know I keep saying this but I really do appreciate you being here with me.”
“And I will keep telling you that it’s no big deal, sweets.” You smiled as he kissed your forehead. You were quiet for a few moments before he spoke up again. “So...have you heard from Mat at all?”
“Not since last night…” You said softly while Tyson just nodded. “Why?” Tyson shrugged, “just wondering.” You gave him a pointed look. “What? I am!”
“How come you seemed so upset about it last night?” “I didn’t mean to seem upset, I just, I don’t know, it caught me off guard. But I know you think he’s attractive so go for it I guess.” He said enthusiastically.
“Okay, well I don’t care what you say, it clearly bothers you in some way, so I’m not going to talk to him.”
Tyson rolled his eyes but didn’t argue so you figured that meant there was some truth in your statement.
You laid in bed for about another hour talking about random stuff before you got up to shower and start getting ready.
“Alright,” you started as you untangle yourself from Tyson, “I’m gonna get in the shower.” “Wanna save some water and shower together?” He asked with a cheeky grin, grabbing your wrist to keep you in place.
“Absolutely not.” You said as you shrugged his hand off of yours and walked out of the room.
Tyson looked up when you walked back into your room. He opened his mouth but you cut him off before he could even say anything.
“Whatever you’re about to say, the answer is no. Go get in the shower.”
Tyson pouted, but did as he was told, not before grabbing your ass on the way out with a little giggle. You rolled your eyes and went about getting ready.
You couldn’t help but glance over at Tyson as he strolled back through the door a few minutes later. The towel he had wrapped around his waist was starting to fall off of his hips and you had a clear picture of his V line. You hadn’t really noticed that you were staring until you heard Tyson start talking to you.
“Like what you see?”
You blushed and rolled your eyes turning back towards the mirror to finish your makeup.
Once you were finally done with your makeup, Tyson had stepped out of the room so you took the opportunity to put your dress on. You slipped it on and tried your best to zip it up but you couldn’t quite reach. When you heard the door open again you turned to ask Tyson for help.
“Hey Tys can you help me-” You stopped when you saw him staring at you. “Is everything okay? Is there something wrong with my dress?” You asked, starting to panic a bit.
“No, no, not at all. I, um, you just look really beautiful.”
You visibly relaxed and smiled at him. “Thanks, Tys. Could you help me zip up though?” He nodded and stepped towards you and turned back around so he could help you. You could feel Tyson’s breath on the back of your neck. Once he zipped you up you turned around slowly, Tyson not moving a muscle. You looked up at him, his face just inches from yours. He cupped your chin in his hand and he brought your face to his and kissed you softly. You closed your eyes and welcomed his lips on yours.
Tyson pulled away after a few moments and turned away. “Shit, I’m sorry, I…” He trailed off and sat on the bed.
You grew sad at his reaction. Although he initiated the kiss it seems like he also regrets it.
“It’s okay...I, um, I’m gonna go downstairs.” You said and quickly left the room. You ducked into the bathroom and leaned against the counter willing yourself not to cry so you wouldn’t ruin your makeup. You took a few deep breaths to compose yourself and you made your way to the door. Just as you were about to turn the knob there was a knock.
“Y/n/N? Can I come in?” It was Tyson. The tears that you just suppressed were quickly coming back. You opened the door and retreated back to the counter.
“Jesus, are you crying?” You covered your face with your hands because the tears were now rolling. “Please don’t cry Y/N. I didn’t mean to upset you, jesus…” he trailed off as he placed his hands on your shoulders. “Please stop crying...I don’t know why I did that…” “It’s fine, Tys, you got caught up in the moment, it’s fine.” “What? No, not the kiss...the kiss was amazing...I totally meant to do that. I don’t know why I pulled away like that. I guess I just thought maybe that’s not what you wanted and I thought I messed everything up. I guess I did that anyway…” You didn’t say anything and you didn’t move for a few moments. “Will you look at me please?” He asked, softly guiding your chin up to look at him. “I’m sorry, Y/n/N. Please don’t be upset.” “You’re wrong you know…” He gave you a puzzled look but you just kept going. “I’ve wanted you to kiss me so badly...for so long. I just thought maybe you regretted it and that’s why you pulled away…”
“Not at all, babe...not at all.” He said, moving in, grabbing the sides of your face and kissing you tenderly.
This time when he pulled away his hands stayed where they were and he wiped away the remaining tears with his thumbs. “God you are so gorgeous.”
You couldn’t help but laugh a little, “Tyson, I’m crying and my makeup is everywhere.”
“That’s what makes you so beautiful.”
You shook your head and smiled at him, taking his hands in yours and bringing them to your sides.
“Come on, let’s go get you fixed up.” He said, leading you back to your room.
It didn’t take you too long to fix your makeup, and before you knew it you heard your mom yell up the stairs telling you guys to hurry up. You grabbed your shoes and sat on the bed next to Tyson to put them on. You started to open the door to leave and Tyson took your hand to stop you.
“Tys, we need to go what ar-” He stopped you with another kiss that you melted into.
“I know, I’m sorry, I just can’t get enough of your lips right now…”
You chuckled and rolled your eyes, “if we go now you can explore all of my lips later…”
Tyson’s eyes widened and he hurried both of you downstairs where the rest of your family was waiting.
~~~~~~
It was a beautiful day, although still pretty cold, the sun was shining and the snow was shimmering. The church looked gorgeous, they had decorated it with tons and tons of flowers, it looked like a garden and it was beautiful.
You held onto Tyson's arm as you followed the rest of your family to sit down. You got there on the earlier side, so there weren't too many people there yet. You found yourself looking back at the doors quite often, waiting for Jake to arrive. Tyson noticed, because you really weren't being very discrete about it, so he took your hand in his and squeezed it gently. You looked at him and smiled. You were so happy and relieved that you two finally shared how you felt and that you could finally be together. You wanted to believe that nothing would ruin such a beautiful day, but if anyone could, it would be Jake.
You were successfully distracted from the door by your brother's ridiculous argument over which of your cousins was going to get the most shitfaced. By the end of it you had placed $20 on who you thought I'd be.
When the ceremony was about to start, you looked to your left and your breath hitched. You grabbed Tyson's hand and looked at you before following your gaze across the room to where Jake was. He looked back and gave you a reassuring smile and kissed the side of your head. Thankfully, the music started to play and your focus was on the wedding party walking in.
The ceremony was beautiful, their vows were adorable, and all of the speakers and passages were very fitting. It wasn't too long either, which was also nice, you couldn't sit still for very long so you liked when things were quick.
Because of all of the people leaving the church, you avoided an encounter with Jake which you were glad about but you knew it was going to happen so the dread just set in. You were able to keep pretty busy throughout the night. Introducing Tyson to everyone and catching up with family you hadn't seen in a while. Tyson stayed by your side pretty much the whole night which was super comforting. You were nervous for him to leave you because you had caught Jake staring at you a few times, and you knew as soon as you were alone he was going to come up to you.
It didn't happen for a little while longer, which you didn't know if it was better or worse because you now had multiple vodka sodas in you. You had been sitting at the table with Tyson, taking a break from the dance floor, when your dad and uncles had come up to you and asked to steal Tyson. You tried to object but your uncles were insistent on spending a little time with him. You rolled your eyes and sat back, trying to push the anxious thoughts away. But that wasn't happening when you saw him approaching you. You tried to stand up but he grabbed your arm before you could take a step.
"Y/N, please. Just let me talk to you."
You sighed and sat down, making a point to shrug your arm out of his grip.
"So, who's the guy?"
"Tyson, my boyfriend." He scoffed at your reply. "What?" You asked.
"Nothing, I'm just surprised is all."
"Why?"
"Word on the street is, he's a professional athlete."
"So?"
"So, it's probably not going to last long. I wouldn’t say that you’re really his type."
"You don't know anything about me, Jake. We haven't talked in years. And I would really like to keep it that way, so please, leave me alone."
"Oh, come on, Y/n/N. Don't be like that. I wasn't that bad, you blew things way out of proportion."
"Did I? Because I'm pretty sure if your dad wasn't as good of friends with my uncle that you would have been in jail, not rehab. You're lucky you got off as well as you did. Me? I didn't get off that easy. You really fucked me up. I couldn't get near a guy for a year because of you. You were abusive. You were an asshole. And I wish that I hadn't wasted so many years of my life with you." You weren't really sure where you got the nerve to say all that, because as soon as it came out of your mouth you were scared of how he was going to react. He opened his mouth, but before he could get a word out, you heard a voice behind you.
"I believe the lady has spoken, you can go now."
To your surprise, he walked right away. It was probably Tyson towering over him that scared him off.
"Well, I was feeling badly that I left you out in the open but it appears my girlfriend is a total badass and was fine on her own…" He commented, wrapping his arms around you and placing his chin on top of your head.
"Yeah, well I'm surprised too. I have no idea why I thought that would be a good idea. I'm not sure what would have happened if you hadn't come over."
"Well, hopefully we never have to find out…are you okay?"
"Yeah, I'm good. It felt good to get that out."
"Good, fuck that guy."
"Yeah, fuck that guy." You said agreeing with him as you let go. "I need another drink…a stiff one."
"Anything for you, my love."
The rest of the night was pretty uneventful, however you downed a few more drinks and were very drunk. Tyson helped you to the car and then up to your room once you got home.
You stripped out of your dress and pounced on Tyson.
"Whoa, easy there killer." He said catching you and placing you gently on the bed.
You kissed for a few minutes before he climbed off of you. "Alright, bedtime."
"What?! Tyson…" you whined. "I've been waiting so long for this."
“Oh have you?!” He asked, quirking his eyebrows.
“Yes, now pleeeeeease.” She whined.
“You’re too drunk, and besides it’s a little weird with your parents down the hall.”
"Ugh, fiiiine." You pouted, taking your bra off and getting comfy in the bed.
"Can you put a shirt on?"
"Oh my god, Tyson, what is wrong with you?"
"I don't know if I can control myself laying with you naked all night. Just please." He said, throwing you one of his shirts.
You sighed and put his shirt over your head. He climbed into bed next to you and wrapped his arms around you.
"I'm so glad you came with me this weekend, Tys."
"Me too, I don't think I could have lasted much longer just as your neighbor."
"Yeah, it was starting to really get to me…"
"What do you mean?"
"I just was thinking that I was going to have to distance myself because I couldn't suppress my feelings anymore…"
"Well, then I'm definitely glad we had this weekend, I would have been really sad if you did that."
"I don't know if I could live with myself if I made you sad…not to mention I'd have Landy on my ass."
"He's been texting me all weekend."
"Really? Why?"
"Updates on if we're together or not."
"Did you tell him?"
"Nah, I want to mess with him a bit."
You chuckled and rolled your eyes, "what are you gonna do?"
"I'm just going to tell him that we had an awful weekend, we got into a huge fight and we're not even friends anymore."
"You're awful."
"But when I finally tell him that we are together now, he'll be so happy he won't even care."
"Okay, just leave me out of it!"
"Oh you're in it now. We're partners for life."
"For life?"
"I hope so."
"Me too." You said with a small smile. You turned so you were now facing him. "Goodnight, Tys." You said softly, giving him a kiss before snuggling into his chest.
"Goodnight, Y/n/N."
~~~~~~~
The next day you had a big brunch with your family before everyone went their separate ways again. Now that you and Tyson were actually together you were so much more relaxed. Despite the hangovers, everyone was laughing and joking around. You were actually a little sad that you were leaving. But, you were excited to get out of your parent's house and spend some alone time with Tyson.
After what seemed like a never ending goodbye, you and Tyson were finally on the road back to Denver. The car ride was much more pleasurable. Again, you were more relaxed, the weekend was behind you, and you frankly couldn't wait to get back.
When you pulled into the garage, you grabbed all of your bags and headed upstairs. You parted ways so you could put your bags down. A few minutes later, Tyson strolled through your front door. You were grabbing a glass of water in the kitchen, so you got one for him too and then you went back to your room so you could unpack and start some laundry.
"Do you want to bring your laundry over here?" You asked him as you gathered your dirty clothes.
"It's alright, I can do it later."
"I don't mind, Tys. I'm doing it anyway."
"Are you sure?"
"Yes, go get it."
Tyson gave you a quick kiss on the cheek and walked off to go get his laundry.
Once you had a load going the two of you went and sat on the couch. You started off just talking but then ended up making out a bit. Tyson was now lying on top of you and things were starting to get heated when his phone rang. "Shit," he muttered as he rummaged around trying to find it on the couch. "It's Landy, I have to answer, I told him to call me."
You rolled your eyes but sat up next to him as he settled back.
"Hey, man." He greeted solemnly. You mouthed for him to put it on speaker.
"Hey, are you home? What happened?"
"Yeah, I'm home…um, things didn't go so well."
"Oh no...what happened?"
"Well, things with her family weren't good to start with. Then the first night we got into a fight about her brothers, and then we got into another argument the next day and I almost just left…I ended up staying but I don't think we're really even friends anymore…"
"WHAT?! Why wouldn't you be friends anymore? What did you do???"
You had to suppress your laughter at Tyson's face when Gabe insinuated it was something he did and not you.
"Why would you think it was something I did?!" Tyson asked, obviously very offended.
"It's Y/N…she just doesn't do anything wrong."
"Okay, well, I don't know. We need a break from each other."
"What the hell, Tyson? Did you even tell her how you feel?"
"I was going to, but I figured telling her after we just had a screaming match wouldn't be the best idea."
"You screamed at each other??? Jesus, what did you fight about?"
"Mat Barzal."
"What?!"
"Yeah he DM'd her on Instagram and it pissed me off."
"Seriously? You screamed at her?! That's not even her fault, man."
"I know, I shouldn't have gotten upset with her, but I did, and now we're just giving each other some space."
"That is the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard. Go over to her place right now and make things right."
"I can't, man."
"You can, and you will."
"No, I really can't."
"And why not?"
"Because I'm already over here."
"What?"
"I'm just messing with you, Landy. We're dating now."
"Are you kidding me?! Y/N are you there? Were you in on this??"
"I wanted no part in it!!!"
"Ugh, Tyson, I want to be so mad at you right now, but I'm too happy for you!! It's about time, though. We were going to give you guys like another week, tops, before we took matters into our own hands."
You and Tyson both laughed, "who is we?!" You asked.
"Me, Mel, basically the whole team…"
"Well I'm glad we have lots of supporters." You commented as Tyson pursed his lips.
"NO one will be butting into this relationship…I'm serious Landy."
"I'm sorry that's not the way it works, Josty." Tyson rolled his eyes but you just giggled. "Anyway, I'm glad you two love birds finally figured it out. Have a good rest of your day and use protection!!!"
Tyson rolled his eyes again and hung up on Landy. "We're turning our phones off and spending the rest of the day in the bedroom." He commanded as he put his phone down on the coffee table. He looked at you signifying for you to do the same and you obeyed then followed him into your bedroom.
He probably looked like some homeless bum right now. It’s not like anyone would really notice his presence, everyone was off celebrating the holidays with family what with it being Christmas and all.
He fidgeted with the sleeves of his oversized sweater, it’s not like he even needed it, it was more for anonymity in the rare case someone was doing some last-last minute shopping. Plus, no matter how cold-resistant he’d become, there’s something comforting about an oversized sweater over your shoulders. It was the warm hug he needed.
Tucker was spending Christmas with his family, something Danny shamefully envious of. He’d even been invited but he hadn’t wanted to intrude. Sam on the other hand wasn’t even in amity. She was spending quality time with her family overseas and wouldn’t be back till after New Year’s. He couldn’t say he envied her. Danielle was touring the world and he would rather eat his own foot than spend Christmas with Vlad. That just left him with his family which was the more complicated of the choices. While his parents were obviously trying to mellow out on their yearly arguing, this year had proven to be as shitty as they come. It just seemed that as the cold settled within Amity, hostility settled within his parents. If he were Jazz, he would point out that it may have something to do with their dynamic as a couple, and how Jack probably felt as if he weren’t being taken seriously enough by Maddie, but he wasn’t Jazz, so he did what Danny does, he hid. He hid his secret, he hid his fear, and now he hid under a bridge until his parents or Jazz noticed his absence and went out looking for him. Until then-
He let a deep sigh out and watched as his breath curled around Cassiopeia, then Andromeda, then disappear into Aries.
Every year he found himself in their company. Every year, instead of ripping into a new model rocket like any space-obsessed kid or trying to hide his disappointment in another pair of lame socks, he was sitting at the ops center looking for Pisces or Triangulum or whatever other constellation he’d just learned about.
Whatever. It’s not like he cared. Plus, with his parents, occupied, it was just him and the stars.
“Fenton?”
Danny looked up to see familiar blue eyes staring at him. He flinched out of pure instinct and aggressively wiped at his eyes. Like hell he was going to let Dash of all people see him this disheveled.
“Dash? What are you doing here?” he ignored the crack in his voice (darn puberty) and glared at him through squinted eyes, “Shouldn’t you be at some party getting blackout drunk? Or, you know, enjoying Christmas with your family or whatever?”
To his shock Dash merely winced and sat on the ledge next to Danny.
“Look, you don’t like me and I don’t like you, and frankly, I don’t want to talk to you right now so how’s about we both just sit here in silence and then leave like nothing ever-“
He fiddled with his hoodie strings and dared a glance at Dash only to see him focused on the sky above.
“You weren’t going to jump right?”
“No!” he nervously chuckled, “Sorry um, no, I wasn’t, I just needed some-“
“Air?”
“Yeah.”
The silence was back, and it was suffocating.
“Look Dash, I love bottling up trauma and shaking it like a coke can every now and then just waiting for it to blow up and kill me one day as much as the next guy, but even I know that’s not healthy. Not that any part of me is healthy- but that’s not the point!” he shook his head and shoved his hands in his pockets. He may not be Jazz but he sure as hell has had to sit through countless of her stop-being-such-a-boy-and-own-up-to-his-mushy-feelings lectures, which meant he knew exactly how much ‘venting’ or whatever could help. Plus, it’s not like Dash cares, with him he doesn’t have some reputation to uphold or feelings to spare.
“I just had to get out of there you know. I know it sounds selfish, but I just want one Christmas without the pointless fighting. There are people who have it worse, people who get to spend their holidays alone or worse and I’m complaining about my parents having a little disagreement. It’s not even the Christmas thing, I mean sure when I was a kid, I hoped for a normal Christmas like everybody else, well, everybody but Sam obviously, but now I just want a normal life.” He looked over to see Dash in the same position as earlier, still staring blankly at the stars. Just as he was about to push himself off the ledge and start his trudge home, he heard Dash suck air in through his teeth.
“Christmas in my household always equals drinking, my dad has anger issues, now I may not be good at math, but I know from experience exactly what happens when those two factors are added together.”
Danny was stunned into silence. How was he supposed to respond to that? They weren’t even friends for Ancients' sakes! Which meant, it meant they could be brutally honest with each other, no hard feelings.
“That fucking sucks man.”
Dash turned to look at him for the second time that night and flashed a sad grin. He barked out a chuckle, “Yeah man, it really does.”
Danny pushed one hand deeper into his pockets and ran the other through his hair. “Do you want to maybe, vent?” he stuttered out, “I mean I get if you don’t, why would you? To me I mean, but like, it helps, at least whenever I vent to Jazz it does. I just figured you might not have anyone to vent to so like, I’m open.”
It was Dash’s turn to stare at him through squinted eyes, an unreadable expression plastered on his face.
“It’s hard, pretending to be something you’re not” he began, “like, it’s not too bad at first and you start getting into character but then, I don’t know you get to into character and all of sudden you’re questioning your life’s decisions and whether or not the person you see in the mirror is you. And then you’re going into existential crisis mode and start realizing that you don’t even like football. That you actually really liked reading Frankenstein. That maybe you don’t want your life to have peaked in High School as the star football-whatever and that you might actually want an education. Not to be some kind of lame coach for little leagues but like a professor. That’s not even touching on whether or not my dad sees my life outside of his stupid reputation.” He trailed off in a hiccup of tears. All that greeted him back was silence.
Danny went to comfort Dash but pulled his hand back before making contact. He took a deep breath instead.
“Look Dash, ‘secret identities’ suck. It’s hard keeping the real you tucked away and harder watching them slip from you, and, I can’t sit here and pour you a cup of the-answers-to-your-life, but what I can tell you is-“
He paused and playfully shoved Dash, “fuck you for keeping the real Dash hidden,”
“Wha-“
He stood up and flipped the trees around them off as he yelled, “and fuck you all for forcing him to hide!”
He dramatically plopped himself back next to Dash as the two boys giggled like madmen. All previous tension between them sizzling out as their laughter grew louder.
“You know Danny?” Dash chuckled out, “You’re not half bad.”
“That’s… comforting,” Danny mused out loud, “more than you know.”
Both boys sat back and continued gazing at the sky, a peaceful silence now surrounding them. Here they weren’t a bully and his victim, or two struggling students, just two boys sharing a silent night sky together. They weren’t friends, and maybe one day they could be, but tonight, they were all they had.
“So what’s this I hear of you being some kind of Literary nerd?”
"Shut it Fenerd!"
