Episode idea…
… Someone kidnaps Mac and uses him as leverage to force Jack to hunt down and assassinate someone, w/ Riley and Bozer getting the insanely difficult task of trying to do a complicated dance of protecting the target from Jack while he tries to give them as much leeway as possible without being obvious, while they also try to figure out who has Mac and rescue him.
Naturally the resolution would involve Mac partially breaking out himself, Jack getting to beat the hell out the people behind it.

i’m at a loss of words even looking at you; no pain could ever reach how it felt when you twisted the knife.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
jh86 | traveling to michigan due to the loss of your father sucked. especially when a familiar face longed to speak to you.
The passing of your father was sudden, unexpected really. The last time you seen him-- a few months ago-- he was perfectly fine. A week ago, your mom called you stating he had fallen really ill. A few days after, she announced his passing to the family.
You made the unfortunate flight to Michigan, having to take your second semester finals earlier to be able to make it to Michigan. Luckily, all your professors were willing to allow you to take them early.
Being in Michigan brought a dark gloom over your head. Of course, it was mostly due to your father's passing, but the last time you were in Michigan, it didn't end well.
Last summer, you were in an on-and-off situationship with your long-term best friend Jack Hughes. At first, it was great. You had the ability to brag that you were the one Jack was fucking at night, you were the girl that Jack had his arm around at the party of the night.
Until you fell for him, something that was easy to do. Jack had charm, his game with women was off the charts. You knew he had a way with getting women to fall easily for him. Before you agreed to the friends with benefits deal, you swore to yourself you wouldn’t fall in love — but you did.
Instead of effectively communicating your feelings to Jack and dealing with the rejection, you ghosted him when you went back to school. You expected him to reach out to you, but instead you got nothing from him. In the end, you thought that hurt worse than rejection ever could.
You stood in front of the mirror that hung on the door to your childhood bedroom. Smoothing out the black dress, you sucked in a deep breath. You were sure Ellen and Jim would be at the visitation. You just were unsure if they forced their three sons to join along.
A soft knock pulled you from your thoughts. You opened the door to see your mother, her eyes clearly swollen from her late night sobbing.
“Are you ready, honey?” Her hoarse voice spoke. You gave her a sincere smile. You knew your mother was in a lot of pain. After all, she lost her husband — the love of her life. You were upset about your father’s passing, but your mother was just completely empty of any emotion besides grief.
“Yeah, I just need to grab my purse. I’ll be right down.” You replied, voice quiet. Your mother nodded, shutting the door to your room. Seeing your mother in this deep of pain hurt you beyond words could explain.
You reached for your purse that was slung on the desk chair, accidentally knocking a few things over. “Shit-“ You grumbled, trying to gather them. You noticed a small note that was hidden behind the old clutter on your desk.
Good Luck in Maine, Stevie. I’ll miss you while you’re gone! - Jack
The familiar — yet unfamiliar — nickname made your stomach turn. It came from your undying love for Stevie Nicks in middle school. When you and Jack would walk home after school, the sound of Fleetwood Mac was always playing from your speaker. Jack turned that into a nickname for you.
You had been wondering why listening to Fleetwood Mac had been making you upset recently, the note just clicked a few buttons in your brain to remind you.
You crumbled the post-it note into your hand, tossing it somewhere in your room. With a huff, you grabbed your purse and left the room. Your family had been waiting downstairs. Evelyn, your younger sister, had a blank expression on her face due to the grief. Your older brother looked like he hadn’t been sleeping well.
You were the epitome of a mourning family.
Your mom drove everyone to the funeral home, it was an hour before the visitation started. Your mother wanted to ensure the visitation room was prepped like how she wanted it.
The visitation room made your heart twist and ache. There were photos of your dad scattered everywhere. Family photos, old prom pictures, even pictures of him attached to a telephone pole from his first job were posted.
“Wow,” Your brother commented, his eyes turning glassy quickly. “This is… this is heavy.” He continued, swallowing harshly.
Your eyes quickly connected to a photo. It was of your father and Jim Hughes. They were the best of friends in high school. The photo was of them holding you and Jack when you were babies. You shook your head, rolling the tears out of your eyes.
Soon enough, the visitors started to roll in. They ranged from family to friends and even some of your own peers showed up. You and your brother stayed off to the side, watching as family consoled your mother.
“Surprised Aunt Nancy even showed her face. Last time I check, she was strung out on meth in Illinois.” Your brother scoffed, staring directly at your father’s sister.
“Dad wouldn’t have wanted her here.” You replied, agreeing with him.
Your attention was turned to the family walking in, the Hughes family. All five of them were present, even Jack. Your stomach turned, feeling queasy at the thought of being in his presence.
Jim spotted you and your brother, considering you were off to the side of the crowd. He led his family over.
“I see your mom is caught up with your father’s family?” Jim commented, a sad expression on his face. He lost his high school best friend, the guy he partied with through college, and the guy he purposefully lived next to in Michigan — just so they wouldn’t be apart.
“Nancy is here,” Your brother answered, watching as Jim rolled his eyes.
“I’m so sorry, honey. I’m sure this is hard,” Ellen frowned pulling you into a hug. You haven’t cried yet today, but this interaction was pushing you close to your limits.
“It is, but what can you do,” You answered, a small frown forming on your face. Your eyes trailed over to Jack, who was piercingly staring at you. You pulled out of Ellen’s grasp, watching as her and Jim got swept away by your mother.
Quinn was the first to speak up. “So, what happened? Jimmy said it was unexpected.”
You looked over at your brother, knowing you’d be the one to explain the story. “He got admitted to the hospital after he went for a high fever. Turns out he had many malignant tumors in his lungs and bronchus. He passed not too long after.” You sadly answered, your voice nothing short of monotonous.
“Fuck — that’s awful.” Luke sighed, scratching at his head. You and your brother shrugged simultaneously. “It happens.” Your brother responded.
Jack stood quietly behind Quinn, his attention fully devoted to you. Your stomach churned, causing you to become light headed. “I’ll be back,” You whispered to your brother, quickly walking out of the visitation room.
You found the women’s bathroom, quickly slamming open the door. You didn’t have time to lock the door behind you. Your body hunched over the toilet, the contents of your stomach spilling out of your mouth. Your body was shaking due to the exertion. You had a few tears spilling from your eyes, ones that you quickly wiped away.
You flushed the toilet, falling against the bathroom wall. “Of course—“ You commented, your voice quiet.
Slowly, your stood to your feet, standing in front of the mirror that was above the sink. You let out a shuddered breath. You ran the water, gargling some water in your mouth. You spit it out into the sink, feeling some relief.
While leaving the bathroom, you had your head in your purse searching for gum. You felt your body come to a halt as someone grabbed your arm. You found the gum, sliding a piece into your mouth, then looked up to see Jack.
“Are you okay?” Jack asked, his hand gripping onto your arm. You looked down, pulling your arm from his grasp. “I’m good.” You confirmed, nodding at him.
“Why didn’t you ever reach out?” He asked, his eyes forming into a glare. You raised your eyebrows, scoffing. “Are you really asking me why I didn’t reach out at my dad’s visitation?” You quickly fired back, watching as his expression changed.
“I just wanted to know, Stevie. That’s all.”
“Don’t call me that.” You stated, turning on your heels to walk away from him. You sucked in a deep breath once back into the visitation room, joining your brother once more.
This is going to be a long week.
Tumblr media
You peered out at the sinking sun, watching as night fell onto the town in Michigan. The colder atmosphere chilled the air, unfortunately you didn’t bring a jacket.
The large pier was empty this time of year. There were no tourists to occupy the town, just those who lived here year round. The sound of the water moving and occasional car driving past kept your mind at peace.
This is where you decided you hated Michigan.
A car door could’ve been heard if you weren’t trapped in your mind. The car door could’ve signaled to you that someone would be joining you within moments. It could’ve been a serial killer, or some elderly woman who wants to knit.
Instead, it was Jack.
He sat down next to you on the bench, quietly turning his head to you. “Your brother told me you were here,” Jack spoke, his eyes fixated on you. “I didn’t ask,” You simply replied, voice quiet.
“Do you hate me, or something? I’m lost at how suddenly you just disappeared, and why you did.” Jack blurted, turning his body slightly towards. you.
You shrugged, a small frown forming on your lips.
“Do you regret it? Or did we do something that we shouldn’t have?”
You shook your head, then shrugged once more. You didn’t want to speak to him, let alone be near him.
“Stevie, we were best friends before whatever happened this summer. Your dad just died, and you are like a closed off shell of what you used to be. Why won’t you just talk to me?” Jack pleaded, his eyes starting to water.
As badly as you wanted to explain your feelings, explain how you didn’t want to be one of those girls that he picks up whenever he wants just to throw them away, explain how you didn’t feel like you even compared to his previous girlfriends, or even explain how you fell in love with him, you chose not to.
Simply out of the fact you didn’t want to be one of those girls crying over the fact that Jack Hughes never loved them.
“I don’t want to talk Jack, at all. I just simply want to be alone,” You abruptly stood from the bench, pulling your sleeves over your hands. “Stop trying to get me to talk to you,”
You quickly walked back to your car, then slowed down once you realized he wasn’t following behind you. Once in the safety of your car, you broke down. Sobs racking your body during the whole drive back to your childhood home.
Tumblr media
The bar was practically empty at this point of the night. It was two in the morning and you were five drinks deep. It doesn’t seem like a lot, but due to your small tolerance of alcohol, it felt like a lot.
Your mind was running, thoughts swirling quickly through your brain. Frankly, you didn’t know why you haven’t just laid your feelings out on a silver platter to Jack.
You thought back to what he told you on the pier, and he was right. Your friendship had been deeply rooted into your life. It was wrong for you to shut him out like you’ve been. It was out of your own stubbornness, and now you were cursing yourself for it.
You sighed, fishing your phone out of your purse. You signaled for the bartender, asking for her to close you out.
“Hello?” Your brother’s tired voice grumbled through the phone. “Hey, I’m at Joe’s, can you come get me?” You slurred, your head resting against your hand.
“It’s literally two AM, are you serious?” Your brother continued to grumble, his voice becoming more annoyed. “Please?” You pleaded.
After a few moments, hearing him tap at his phone and the ruffling of his sheets. “Jack’s gonna be there in ten to come get you.” Your brother informed. “Stop being rude to him, by the way. He just wants to help.”
You heard the chime of the hang up sound, groaning to yourself. The bartender handed you the debit card that belonged to you, giving you a sincere smile.
After a little while, the door bell chimed, signaling that someone had entered.
“Stevie come on,” Jack muttered, standing behind you. You felt the tension, causing your less than sober state to fill with nerves. You slid off the bar stool, sulking as Jack led you to his car.
Once safety inside, Jack started the drive back.
“Why?” Jack asked, his focus on the road. “Why are you doing this to yourself again?”
“I don’t know, Jack,” You shrugged. Tears started to run down your face, regret filling your body due to your actions.
“You’ve shut me out once before, and you know how that makes me feel. I don’t know why you are doing it again.” Jack continued, his hands gripping onto the wheel tightly.
“I’m sorry, Jack” Your voice shuddered as you spoke, your eyes staring down at your hands.
“And I don’t know if you’ve just been acting like this because you are going through a lot right now, but I just wish you’d talk to me. And drinking — really Stevie — drinking? This is how you are going to work through your pain?”
“I-“ You stuttered, shrugging as you tried to finds words to speak.
“You don’t have to answer now, you’ve been drinking.” Jack stated, pulling into your driveway. You sat in the car, not sure of what to do or say.
“Can we talk tomorrow?” You asked, finally glancing over at him. Jack briefly glanced at you, letting out a sigh. “Yeah, just text me.” Jack replied, nodding. “Bye,” You quietly excused yourself, getting out of his car.
The rest of the night, you laid in bed, thinking of things to tell Jack tomorrow.
Tumblr media
Jack sat across from you, nursing a hot black coffee. Your head ached with a never ending headache due to your hangover. You sipped on a iced chai latte, silent.
"Tell me what's going on," Jack requested, breaking the heavy silence with a sentence that made your body flood with anxiety. You wished you never asked him to talk - but you decided that your since your trip was coming to an end soon - it was now or never. Never meaning you would lose your best friend for good.
You attempted to gather words in your brain, opening your mouth to speak but nothing would flow into coherent sentences.
"I really - do you regret this summer? Do you thing it changed anything?" You asked, your mouth running dry with your words.
Jack knit his brows together in confusion, quickly shaking his head. “No, I don’t regret it. Do you?” Jack leaned forward slightly, his voice quiet. “I don’t regret it, but something changed.” You spoke, eyes tearing away from his.
“What changed, Y/N?” Jack’s face flooded with worry. “Because if it’s something I can fix, I want to. I just want my best friend back, I just want you back in my life.”
“That’s the thing, Jack.”
“What? What’s the thing?” Jack’s voice was rushed, his eyes searching your face for any answers. He used to be able to read your expressions like an open book, but now it was like trying to read a locked diary.
“I can’t be your best friend anymore-“ You were quickly cut off.
“What the fuck? Why? Why can’t you be my friend anymore? Because we fucked? I mean, I can see how it would change things but I feel like it-“ You quickly cut him off in return.
“No, Jack. It’s because I fell in love with you.” You harshly stated, eyes quickly locking onto him. You could visibly see a wave of emotion rush over him.
Jack sat in silence, his brain swirling with many thoughts and questions. He was unsure of which one to ask first, to learn about. “Why didn’t you tell me?”
You scrunched your face, clasping your hands in your lap. “I’ve known you for how long, Jack? You’ve told me about every girl you’ve brought home, immediately knowing whether or not they’d be a quick hook-up or if it would be more. You’ve told me how many times you’ve ghosted girls over something small they did that threw you off.” You paused, sucking in a deep breath. “I didn’t want to be one of those girls.”
“You never were, Y/N. We have too much past to even make you remotely close to one of those girls.” Jack shook his head, disbelief flooding his brain. Did you really think that he would just drop you?
“Jack, be serious. If we didn’t have the past, if our families weren’t close friends, would I be one of those girls?” You asked, a stoic expression on your face.
Jack shook his head again. “Absolutely not. If you were one of those girls, Y/N, if I even remotely felt like treating you like those girls, you wouldn’t be sitting here right now. I wouldn’t have kept being around you all summer if you were one of those girls. You just — it was natural — it felt easy to be around you like that,” Jack explained, confessing thoughts in his head he never thought he’d say out loud.
“Why?”
“You are different. Your achievements are far different from how many Instagram followers you have, you have actual goals in life. You never thought of me as some fucking — as #1 draft pick with a 8.8 Million dollar contract — I’ve always just been Jack to you. I’ve always been the kid your parents forced you to hang out with. I’ve never been some celebrity in your brain. You make me feel different.” Jack let out a deep breath after his small speech, his eyes focused on you.
“Jack, I-“
“I’m not finished. You are in school, pursuing fucking politics, Y/N. You spend your nights studying instead of throwing back as much Pink Whitney as you can. Instead of posting sponsorships on social media, you post about your friends, family, achievements. I have always thought you were the smartest girl I’ve known. I always surrounded myself with girls different from you to try to convince myself that it wasn’t right to have feelings for you. Because you don’t deserve to be with a guy who won’t have a career in thirty years, who doesn’t even know what he’s going to do with his life in thirty years.” Jack ran a hand through his tousled hair, moving to anxiously fiddle with the strings to his hoodie.
“I think your monologue was longer than my final paper this semester, no offense.” You spoke, trying to ease the heavy mood. “I — uh — wow. That is a lot to process? Give me a second to think.” You spoke, thinking maybe Jack would actually let you think for a moment.
“Y/N, I’ve loved you since sophomore year of high school. That’s the whole point of that speech or whatever.” Jack stated quickly, clarifying his words.
“So, now what?” You asked, shrugging. “You go back to New Jersey, I go back to Maine, now what?”
“We figure it out. Because, Y/N, seriously. I’ve gone the past five months not speaking to you, and I really can’t go any longer.” Jack frowned, scratching at the small patches of stubble that had been growing.
“We figure it out?” You questioned, waiting for him to confirm his words.
“Yeah, I mean, we’ve figured out ways for you to come to New Jersey for like the past three years. I’m sure it won’t be any less harder, now. You have one semester left at college, then it’s up in the air, yeah? I think we’d be able to figure it out.” Jack nodded, feeling less suffocated that he had previously felt. “Only if you want to though.”
You, on the other hand, were still battling with your internal insecurities. Your lip was tucked between your teeth, biting at the dead skin. “I need to get some air, for a second.” You stood from the chair, heading outside the small coffee shop to think in peace for a moment.
You knew it wouldn’t be hard to figure out. And, you knew Jack would treat you right. He already did so much for you, as a friend. Sending you sweet messages when you were upset, ordering you uber eats when you were up all night studying, the signs were all green.
Yet, the lingering thought of if you were good enough still pounded into your brain like a headache.
You heard the door chime, not realizing they maybe you have been sitting outside for far too long. Jack stood on the side walk, a sad expression plastered on his face.
“Just let me know-“
You stood to your feet, rushing over to him. You placed you hands on his cheeks, planting your lips onto his. Jack hesitated, but soon his hands found your hips, squeezing.
“We’ll figure it out.” You mumbled, watching as his eyes flickered brightly.
“We will figure it out,” Jack nodded, pulling your body against his chest.
You were sure that Jack would do his best to navigate through his life, especially if you were by his side. You knew that Jack would treat you as best as he could, always ensuring you were happy with how the relationship was going. You knew Jack just as well as you knew yourself.
Maybe being back in Michigan wasn’t as bad as you thought it was.

Why did i think of Aaron with this? Like imagine him and reader (who's younger) decided to have a baby... Then a few years later they're like, jack it's almost a teen and he loves his little sibling so why not have just one more? But then this happens 😂😂😂 imagine Aaron's face!!!! He'll be like "what you mean there's three???? Babe, i'm too old for this shit!!!👁️👄👁️" And when they tell the team?! OH MY GOD. The teasing would be endless!!!
omg i had to write this asap, i love any expecting!dad!aaron/spencer
Aaron doesn't stop at the FBI offices once the team gets off the jet, and it's almost seven. He knows he'll get caught there for two hours, minimum, and with how tired you've been this pregnancy, you're likely to be asleep by the time he gets home. Plus, he hasn't been so wrapped up in the case the BAU just closed that he's forgotten about the all-important ultrasound you had scheduled.
He gets home just after 7:30, thanks to traffic and some speeding through empty streets. He dumps his go-bag in the laundry room, checking all the doors are locked out of habit.
"Y/n?" You hear Aaron's voice travel down the hallway as he assures you that it's not an intruder.
"Kitchen." You call back, snapping the lid on a container of leftover mac and cheese. Both Jack and Daisy will happily eat it the next day.
He wraps his arms around your waist from behind and pulls you into his chest, tucking his head into your neck. "Hi, honey." He hums.
You turn your head to kiss him for the first time in a week. "Hi, handsome, welcome home."
"Glad to be back." He sighs, breathing in your scent in a non-creepy way. "Kids okay?"
You reach for the baby monitor in Daisy's room, holding it up so he can see the live feed. Jack is crouched at the end of the crib, puppets on his index fingers, while Daisy stands with the help of the rail and watches his puppet show. He's always been an amazing big brother and he loves making up puppet shows for her.
"They've been good." You tell him as you watch the sweet interaction.
He hums in your ear. "So, what's the verdict? How are you?" He doesn't waste any longer than necessary to ask for the results. His wide hand travels down to rest over the little bump that's already appeared. "How is the little raspberry?"
You try not to tense too much in his arms. It would be far too easy for him to notice as your husband and a profiler. So you step away from him, still holding his hand. "Are you hungry?" You ask.
He frowns. "You're deflecting." You narrow your eyes at him, and he folds quickly, answering you. "I ate lunch."
You laugh, handing him a prepared plate. "You're meant to have three meals a day, Aaron."
"I'll eat, but please start talking because I'm getting worried." You can sense the fear in his voice, justified.
"Couch?" You offer before quickly squashing his worries. "Everything's healthy, the OB/GYN isn't concerned."
He lets out a deep breath, taking his plate from you with a 'thank you' kiss before sitting on the couch. You take the ultrasound pictures out of your handbag, sinking down next to him.
"Let me see, let me see." He cheers eagerly. You hand it over, biting your bottom lip as he flips it open. His eyes fill with tears in the most precious way as he gently traces over the glossy picture. "Wait." You know he's caught the descriptor at the bottom. Last time, it was just Baby Hotchner, but things are a little different this time. "Wait...Baby A? Is this a joke?" He turns to you with a playful expression, wrinkling his nose, but he lets a level of concern slip through.
You shake your head. "Not joking. There's a Baby B."
"There's a 'B'?" Aaron repeats, shocked. For someone who's an expert in maintaining an emotionless expression, he's struggling. His eyes look like they could pop out of his head. He takes a look under the first ultrasound, finding another, slightly different ultrasound with a different name at the bottom.
"There's a 'B'." You confirm, knowing he needs to hear it out loud, probably more than once, like you did earlier that morning.
He turns to you with raised eyebrows, letting out another breath. "Two babies." He states- incorrectly- although he's yet to be made aware of it. "Shit." He mumbles.
"Aaron, there's a 'C'." You break the news before he can accept that it's twins.
Aaron's shocked expression gets impossibly more prominent on his features. "Holy shit. Triplets? Oh my- fuck."
You chuckle softly beside him. "Yeah, triplets."
"Wow." He gasps finally, sitting with the news for a few seconds as he looks at the third ultrasound. "That's- wow."
"I know." You agree with his shock. "Crazy, huh?"
He nods slowly, looking at the final ultrasound which is a picture of all three of them. Then he turns to look at you all of a sudden. "This is real?" He asks and you nod. "You're incredible."
You laugh softly. "So you're okay?"
"Are you?" He asks, fully concerned again. "I mean, do you need a higher dose of vitamins? And you need to be eating more. And drinking more. And-"
You cut him off before he can spiral, just as you had. "I'm good, baby." You assure him. "Got it all under control, but this is quite a shock, huh?"
He nods. "We said one more and now we're going to have three more." His eyes fill with tears. "We're so lucky."
"We are." You agree. "There's lots to do though."
He cups your cheek, thumb stroking over your skin. "Tomorrow, baby. And I'll be the one doing everything. You're growing those perfect babies."
"I've got your first task." You tell him and he waits for it, no doubt going to do whatever you want. "Kiss me." He chuckles softly at what is a really easy request to grant and he leans in, kissing you gently.

MACDENNIS TIMELINE CONDENSED
ok so the other one is kinda long. Here's the short version.
Macdennis can be separated into 7 phases.
(S1-S4) - In these seasons the homoerotic undertones are treated as more of a bit.
(s5-s7)- 5 is Dennis' most thirsty season, he nearly adores Mac (not to say he doesn't try to control him or get irritated by him). Then, after Dee pointing out how gay they are getting, there's a big pullback. Dennis says no homo, Mac says definitely no homo, Dennis gets married and kicks Mac out, Dennis gets divorced so fast and lets Mac back into the apartment.
(s8-s9) Mac tries to kiss Dennis on the mouth out of nowhere. Mac and Dennis have monthly dinner dates. They wrestle naked in a shower, but the "wrestling" is more like a swaying embrace. Their apartment burns down.
(s10-s11)
Mac and Dennis live with Dee now. They have to take turns jacking off to the same creampie videos to get off now for some reason ( I don't know why people think they were doing it together because from what I can tell they weren't). They move into a house together and nearly kill each other.
(s12)
Mac and Dennis are back in their own apartment. Mac comes out for real. Mac gets Dennis a Valentines day present, causing him to tear up. Dennis leaves the state to go raise his secret son.
(s13-14 )
Dennis' angriest seasons, needs a hug badly. He comes back from north Dakota. Mac pines hard, tries desperately to do what Dennis wants him to, but Dennis just wants him to take control.
(s15-16)
Mac backs off. The power has flipped, and Dennis is slipping. Mac explores his identity.
parallel relationships
(Mac/Dennis Jr., Mandy/Brian Jr.) -suburbs/double life
(Macdennis paired with married couple/gruesome twosome paired with father son duo) - Gets romantic
(MacDennis/Malcom and his dad)- celebrity booze *the parallel could also be dennis/frank malcolm/his dad instead*
Fake relationships
Hugh Honey and Vic Vinegar- Pretended to be gay married realtors
Double life- Pretended to be in an emotional relationship to get Dennis out of having to be with Mandy romantically.
Johnny- Dennis Catfishes Mac into having an emotionally and sexually involved romantic relationship with his online alias.

anon this was so cute :(( i looooove single parent!reader with hotch!!
--
"Sophie," You croon through a giggle, brushing grass out of the little girl's hair, "'Be careful what you wish for!"
Jack comes racing over, hands still sticky with grass stains from where he'd participated in a Sophie-led grass fight, and you made a mental note not to tell Rossi that his perfect lawn is now a little uneven.
The young boy spots a sprig still tucked into one of Sophie's ponytails, his fingers curling around it clumsily, "Missed a spot, Miss Y/N."
"Thanks for gettin' it, buddy." You smile fondly at Jack who puffs with pride at your praise, "Say thank you, Sophie."
"Thank you!" She beams happily at Jack who returns the toothy expression, and he leans in to whisper something rather loudly in her ear.
All you hear is 'attack' and 'mommy' before you're taking off in a sprint, the little ones chasing after you with much smaller strides. You see Aaron sitting on the deck, drink in hand, and make a beeline for him, not bothering to evaluate why he'd already been looking at you before you'd run over.
Safety in mind, you duck behind him, your hands on his shoulders as you peer goofily over his shoulder. The kids stop dead in their tracks, not wanting to throw handfuls of messy grass at Aaron, and he raises an amused eyebrow at them.
"They're tryin' t'get me," You huff, breathing heavier from your sprint, "Your son is a grass killer."
"We'll have to take him in," Aaron hums thoughtfully, looking at the beheaded greenery in his son's hand, "Do you have handcuffs that'll fit him?"
"We'll use rubber bands." You reassure him, your face hovering beside his own as you straighten from behind him, "We're gonna throw you in jail, Jack!"
The boy knows you're joking, even giggles slightly, but Sophie doesn't seem to. Her tiny brow furrows, and big crocodile tears wet her eyes, "No! Mommy, don't!"
"Oh," You croon, reaching for the little girl to wipe her tears, "We're just teasing, bug. We won't really lock him up."
"No," Aaron shakes his head, setting his drink down to lean towards her with a soft smile, "Don't worry. He couldn't stay in jail for very long anyways, he has a soccer game tomorrow night."
"A soccer game that we'll be attending," You shake Sophie gently by the hips, jostling her around to get her out of her funk and excited to go, "Right Soph?"
"Yes!" She cheers, fear long forgotten as she jumps up, "'Gonna bring my quarters, 'cause I need three for a popsicle."
"What kind are you going to get?" Aaron inquires, leaning back in his chair now that the crisis has been averted, "Cherry?"
"Mhm!" She nods vigorously, ponytails bouncing, "How'd you know?"
"That's my favorite, too!" Jack answers her question, perhaps unknowingly, a smile on his face, "Can I get one too, dad?"
"Maybe," Aaron sighs dramatically, "But I don't think I can afford three quarters right now. Maybe Sophie has some for you?"
She doesn't grasp that he's joking, and her eyes light up, "Yeah! I've got ten, Mommy says that's a lot."
"That is a lot." Aaron nods, shooting a smile at you, "You'll have a house in no time, Sophie."
"Can I live there, too?" Jack asks, and Sophie nods eagerly.
"Yeah! We could have sleepovers every night." She grins, reaching for your hand, "'N my mommy can make us mac and cheese!"
"My dad makes real' good mac and cheese too," Jack boasts, "We can all live there together!"
You glance at Aaron, amusement twisting your face into a smirk, but he's already looking at you. Something fond twinkles in his eyes and it catches you off guard, but it's so beautiful you don't have time to evaluate why it's there. You just return the soft smile that he sends your way, turning back to your kids.
"Well that sounds like a fantastic plan," You crouch beside them, setting a hand on each of their shoulders, "Why don't you go draw the house you want? I think your Uncle Rossi left some crayons over there."
"C'mon, Jack!" Sophie's off like a rocket, sprinting through the yard to the designated kid's table, dragging the older boy behind her, "We gotta make plans!"
You watch them go with a fond smile, then plop down unceremoniously into the seat beside Aaron. He's watching them too, eyes growing darker with concern when Sophie nearly topples in her chair, but soft with adoration as Jack helps right her.
"Do you think we, like, get any of the mac and cheese?" You ponder, breaking the serene silence between you two.
"We'll have to make extra when they're sleeping." Aaron decides, "Kraft?"
"Only if the noodles are princess shaped." You insist, eyes intense as you narrow them at Aaron, "None of that star wars bullshit."
"R2-D2 tastes better than Belle." He waves you off with a scoff, "Don't be ridiculous."
"He does not," You shriek, "Take that back!"
"I will not." Aaron grumbles stubbornly, swirling the ice in his drink, "You're wrong."
"This is not going to work out." You sigh forlornly at your daughter, mourning the loss of the house she's scribbling out with Jack, "Who's gonna tell them they have to make their own?"

aaron hotchner x fem!reader
the hotchner family adopts a new pet
cw: established relationship, jack calls reader ‘mom’, aaron is a cat person, bau reader
wc: 1.8k
༺♡༻
jack first posed the question about getting a pet at family dinner.
you and aaron could both tell something was on his mind. he was picking at his mac and cheese, typically his favorite meal, and had a certain look on his face that usually meant he had something on his mind.
the last time jack acted like this was when he wanted to ask if he could start to call you ‘mom.’
aaron was the first to take the bait. “not hungry, buddy?”
jack shrugged. his silence was more than telling.
you glanced towards aaron to see where he was going to go with this though before he could say anything, jack was finally speaking up.
“can we get a pet?” he asked.
clearly the immediate silence wasn’t the answer jack was looking for.
“please, please!” jack begged.
you stayed quiet. as much as you would love to get a pet to fulfill jack’s wants, you know the ultimate decision is up to aaron.
“jack,” aaron started. “your mom and i are away too much for a pet. we wouldn’t be able to care for it. plus animals are a lot of work and they’re messy.”
“but i could help!” jack protested.
“i’m sorry buddy but it wouldn’t work out. maybe when you’re a little older.”
jack frowned at the rejection and sunk back into his seat. you reached across the table to squeeze his hand.
the rest of the dinner went by with little disturbance. although jack was still upset, he eventually started to eat and talk about his day.
while aaron cleared the plates and began on the dishes once you were finished eating, you leaned towards the young boy.
“cat or dog?” you whispered to jack.
he thought about it for only a moment, his face mimicking the way he concentrates when doing a math problem.
“cat,” jack decided.
you beamed. “i think that can be arranged.”
____
you and jack devised a plan to convince aaron behind his back.
you gathered a few sheets of large paper and some art supplies and let him get started. the entire thing was jack’s work. you simply helped with the spelling when asked. there were a few things he wouldn’t let you see and you turned a blind eye.
the next time a family pet gets brought up is a few weeks later.
you and aaron had a long case out west.
a week without sufficient rest or seeing jack were all factors that made aaron easily convinced to give the team a long weekend.
jack was ecstatic to have both of his parents home for a few days. you spent the first few hours simply resting and sleeping off the jet lag before jack had dragged you both into the living room.
“i need to show you guys something,” jack giggles. “i have to go get it. stay here!”
you curl into aaron’s side before jack is rushing back into the room. his arms are filled with an array of multi-colored paper and sporting the same grin that aaron had on some occasions.
“i really really want a cat,” jack starts. “so i worked really hard on a few reasons why.”
jack sorts through the paper to find his first point while aaron turns to you.
“did you know about this?” aaron murmurs.
you meet his gaze, biting your lip to hide your smile.
“no idea,” you answer. he doesn’t push it after you kiss his cheek.
jack presents each reason with growing emotion. he’s drawn visuals too. your heart melts when you see the stick figure version of the three of you. even on paper you and aaron are holding hands.
he ends it by handing his dad a letter.
“what’s this?” aaron raises an eyebrow.
“aunty penny said she would watch the cat whenever you are working,” jack explained. “she even signed it!”
aaron skims the note and you resist the urge to laugh at jack’s creativity. no wonder he had a few things you couldn’t be a part of.
“what do you think?”
the question was turned to you. “i think that an animal would keep jack company while we work. plus cats aren’t as much work as dogs. and if penelope said she would watch it then i’m in.”
aaron’s face shifts into the serious one you only see during work hours. for a moment, you think he’s gonna shoot the whole idea down. he instead squeezes your leg.
“we can go to the shelter tomorrow.”
____
jack was bouncing in his seat the entire drive to the shelter.
you had to admit, you were pretty excited too. moving in with aaron was a massive milestone in your relationship, but adopting an animal together feels like a whole new realm.
on the way over, the three of you discussed what kind of cat you would want. there wasn’t much bias besides age; the idea of jack growing up with a kitten seemed like the obvious choice.
you called ahead to the shelter to let them know about your interest in adopting. a vet took you around to the various cages/rooms to show you what animals were available for adoption.
you stopped in front of one of the rooms that had a few different cats in it. aaron hoisted jack up to rest on his hip so he could see.
a little orange tabby kitten who was sleeping in one of the beds caught your eye.
she was only a few months old and was just dropped off at the shelter that morning. she hadn’t even been listed on the ‘new animals’ section of the website.
one look from jack to you and aaron confirmed that you would be leaving the shelter with her.
“this the one you want, buddy?” aaron asked. you squeezed his hand.
jack nodded his head quickly. he shot forward, doing his best to wrap both of his short arms around you and aaron. “thank you! thank you! thank you!” he repeated.
you and aaron had a long series of papers you needed to fill out though in comparison to work files, it didn’t feel like much. it was standard things: who lived in the house, any other pets, and a few other general things about the adoption itself.
it’s not long before a vet guides you, aaron, and jack to a private room where the kitten is.
aaron keeps a firm hand on jack’s shoulder as you walk in. “remember buddy, she’s a lot smaller than you are. she might be nervous too. be gentle, okay?”
the kitten takes her time to investigate the three of you in the room. to help aid her comfort, you sit down on the floor and pat the spot next to you for jack to sit. she sniffs you and jack first before she hops into your lap.
you pet the kitten in your arms. “look aaron, we’re parents of two now.”
aaron leaned down to kiss the crown of your head.
the tabby, still nameless, pushed herself out of your arms and trotted over to where aaron stood behind you. she sniffed him for only a moment before rubbing against his pant leg.
“i think someone likes you,” you grinned as you peered up to him.
“i’m just glad she likes me on the day i wear jeans.”
his grumble is ignored as the kitten looks up towards his stoic face and lets out one of the quietest meows you’ve ever heard. she raised one paw as if to ask for attention.
jack shifted to sit in your lap as aaron knelt down.
his hand is enormous in comparison to the small animal. it doesn’t take a profiler to see the smile tugging at aaron’s lips. he pets her gently. the tabby’s purring starts almost immediately.
“i think she needs a name,” aaron suggests.
you turn to jack. it was his idea after all.
“she’s orange,” jack points out. “how about clem-cleme-”
the full word is still a bit of a challenge for him to say.
“clementine,” aaron finishes for his son.
“yeah!”
aaron finally scoops her up to hold her.
“welcome to the family clementine.”
____
though aaron was initially hesitant to adopt an animal, clementine fits right into the family.
true to his word, jack helps out with caring for her. penelope takes care of clem too when you and aaron are away. she and sergio have become good friends.
it’s not all easy, there’s definitely struggles. clementine sheds a lot. aaron has had to purchase more lint rollers than ever before, especially after clementine has developed a habit of sleeping on his suit jackets.
the joy of companionship outweighs the minimal time it takes aaron to lint roll his suit.
clementine is great for jack with you and aaron working. even when you’re home and aaron is stuck at the office, she provides a source of comfort when you’re missing him. like tonight, when aaron was swarmed with extra files from the previous case. you offered to help, of course, but he refused. it was already late and he knew you needed sleep.
aaron unlocks the door and steps in quietly. he knows jack is asleep upstairs and doesn’t want to wake him. he cracks open his son’s door to check on him before entering your shared bedroom.
the lights are off and aaron can infer that you’re asleep. however, you aren’t alone in bed.
“hi clem,” aaron greets the kitten who was curled up beside you. “taking my spot?”
clementine chirps and rolls her head against his hand.
“aaron?” your voice is gravely as you peel your eyes open.
even in the dark you can still make out his silhouette.
“hi honey,” aaron whispers. he leans down to kiss the corner of your mouth, just ghosting your lips. when you whine, he finally kisses you properly. “sorry for waking you up though i see clementine has been keeping you company?”
the kitten chirps from her spot on the blanket.
“oh,” you start, a bit more awake now. “she’s been here all night. i think she’s happy to see you.”
“i don’t doubt that.”
aaron gets ready for bed as quiet as possible. after slipping into pajamas and brushing his teeth, he’s crawling into bed beside you. just as you move to curl into his chest, clementine is padding up the blanket before promptly sitting on aaron’s chest.
your giggle is quiet. aaron huffs, clearly expecting to be cuddling with you and not a kitten.
you kiss him gently and maneuver yourself to still be close to him.
“goodnight aaron.”
“goodnight honey.”
when you wake up the next morning, aaron and clementine are still snuggled together.

pedro boys when you’re not feeling well
ft: Joel Miller, Din Djarin, Frankie Morales, Jack Daniels, Marcus Pike, Marcus Moreno, Max Phillips, Dieter Bravo
a/n: writing this in bed as i suffer from a stomach ache (maybe caused by exhausting travel day or it could be my acid reflux making my life hell idk) either way i need comfort from the boys. also first time writing a headcanon for dieter, might add max lord soon bc hes fine af
Tumblr media
Joel Miller
Pre outbreak Joel would know exactly what to do to help. He’s dealt with his fair share of stomaches aches, fevers, colds etc. Sarah got sick a lot as a child so he knows the remedies and what makes someone feel better. He’ll cook u soup or make u toast and coax you into eating with kisses. He’ll make you drink water and let you sleep in his bed. Also gives you lots of cuddles
Post outbreak Joel still has those instincts buried in him when he sees you aren’t feeling well. He’s not as kissy as he used to be but he will do anything to help you feel better. If you even mention wanting soup or needing medicine he's out the door to get it for you. He’s a grump though so he’ll be a bit more blunt like telling u to sit and stop whining when you complain about him doing so much for you. But it comes from a place of love even if he won’t admit it. Still gives the best cuddles. You just have to ask.
Din Djarin
Mando is such a sweetheart. He’s been sick and injured himself but normally he’s on his own. Suffering by himself on his ship. But after meeting you he doesn’t feel that way anymore. Every injury is now treated by you. He never ever wants you to feel the way he used to feel so he’ll be right by your side. Returning the care and compassion you give him. He has bacta if you need it but sometimes you just have to ride out the sick feeling. He gets you whatever you want. Tasking Grogu to stay with you as he goes into town. He’ll take real good care of you until you’re back to normal.
Frankie Morales
Frankie, sweet Frankie. Oh he’s just a total sweetheart. He’s a bit of a worry wart though. Oh you should have seen him the first time his baby girl got sick. She cried in his arms and his heart broke because he couldn’t do anything to help her. He goes a little overboard sometimes. He’s at your side in an instant. Immediately jumping to the worst conclusion even if its just a stomach ache. He doesn’t like to see you sick because it worries him to no end. Even if you promise you’re okay. He probably has some cure he promises you will help that he learned in the military. But he can also make you mac and cheese and sit with you on the couch.
Jack Daniels
Whiskey is basically your maid when you are sick. He calls you a million sweet pet names as he lets you sit in his bed all comfy and brings you anything you ask for. He’ll also go to ginger for medicine, knowing whatever she can give you will have you right as rain in a day. He is a bit of a tease though. Saying stuff like “Poor baby.” and “Don’t feel good huh?” His tone is light and joking and you tend to play along. Pouting and nodding your head. Telling him that only his cuddles and that soup from the deli downtown is all you need. He’ll laugh but get it for you in a heartbeat.
Marcus Pike
Oh my god this man is the perfect partner when you are sick. At first you're pretty upset because you have to cancel your date with him. Date nights are already hard to plan given both of your jobs. He can tell something is wrong the moment he hears you over the phone. Even though you tell him that you're fine and promise to make it up to him he still shows up to your place 30 minutes later with food. He'll turn on an old movie and wrap you in a blanket and let you fall asleep in his arms.
Marcus Moreno
I feel like Marcus is also a pretty anxious guy but like Joel and Frankie he's got the dad knowledge on how to make someone feel better. Plus his mothers surefire cures. He comes after work because as much as he wishes, he can't miss work. But he's constantly messaging you to make sure you're okay. He offers to let you stay at his place but you don't want to get him or Missy sick. Though its a losing battle because both him and Missy don't care and want you around. Missy will keep you company while Marcus makes you tea and soup. The night ends with family cuddles and a lot of love.
Max Phillips
Vampires can't get sick like humans so there's no worry about getting him sick. Max wants you to feel better as soon as possible, mostly because you don't taste as good when you're sick and its not as fun for you. But also because he cares about your wellbeing of course. He's bit of a pain though because he's at work and you're texting him to pick you up some medicine and he's being a tease about it. Telling you how out of the way it is and how expensive it is but obviously he's going to get it for you. He just likes it when you beg :) He'll get you everything you ask for and more. As for cuddles he is happy to be your ice pack. He also offers to turn you so you don't have to feel like this ever again. Mostly joking, but a part of him isn't.
Dieter Bravo
Dieter will buy you all the expensive medicine and the fluffiest blankets and food from the highest end restaurant if it will make you feel better. Well it's his money but he has assistants to actually go and get it for him. Dieter is no stranger to feeling like shit so he knows what helps. Lots of snuggling in his bed, he won't let you leave unless its for the bathroom. Honestly, he's probably hungover in some capacity the same morning so its a lot of sleeping and being sick together.

It's probably just me or idk maybe I'm a weirdo or just weirdly obsessed with Shining Armor or all them but when I see some AU about Twilight Sparkle or the main 6 I think "Oh cute I like it" thought in my mind if it looks nice or if it could just be better (I like a Jacked Applejack, okay? It's my favorite headcanon of Human Applejack but that is not the point)
The point is that somewhere in my brain says "Hey and Shining Armor? What would he be doing at that moment that it's mentioned in Twilight's life? He's her brother." I'm curious and sometimes I just feel ashamed to ask or I hold back from asking because relatively speaking he is not that important and obviously the important ones are the Main six but still. Like he could be important, he just needed development.
Like Flash Sentry, He could have been a really good character (from what I remember) if they had given him his own personality instead of just being a romantic interest for Twilight.
Like I needed more about Shining Armor (I saw MLP several years ago, many years ago so at that time I wasn't a big fan of him until that meme of him and Cadance "the bride and the ugly ass groom"? That one.)
It just uuuugh, Why didn't I become a super fan of Rainbow Dash, Fluttershy or Rarity (I like her she's cool)??? Nope it had to be Fucking Shining Armor, he's cool and I like the redesigns where they make him look more like his dad or make him have a bit more like kind of colors related to Twilight? or something like that.
I also like Big Mac, like just look at him he's so cool too. Like he's a big brother too, he also cares about his sisters, he probably is super jacked like so strong really strong too.
I got distracted from the initial topic which was "I think what would happen with Shining Armor in other people's AUs where they only mention Twilight or the main six."
Yeah. It was supposed to be a short post until I got distracted from my main idea but it's still an MLP post.

… Underrated things:
Jack holding onto Mac’s belt every time he leans out the window. No attention is ever given to it, nothing ever said. Just every time Mac leans out of a car window, Jack reaches over and holds on to him.

The Babysitter (Part 1)
Title: The Babysitter (Part 1)
Pairing: Aaron Hotchner x Reader
Summary: After the family you babysit for moves, you meet with a father and son duo who are about to change your life.
Word Count: 1438
Master List Part 1 Part 2 Part 3 Part 4
A/N: This took forever mainly because work has been kicking my ass with all these 9-hour shifts that switch from mid-morning one day to close the next. Part 2 will be up in a few days though I promise!!!!
You can hear your phone ringing in the next room. It’s probably not anything, but since you had spread the word that you need a new babysitting gig, you rushed to get it. Nothing said perfect timing like that call.
“Hi, this is (Y/N) (L/N). What’s this call about?”
You tuck the phone between your ear and shoulder as you scoop up the youngest of the kids into your arms.
“Hello, this is Aaron Hotchner. Someone told me I could call you about babysitting. Is now a good time?”
“Yes! Now works, though pardon the screaming in the background. The parents are running a little late but are almost here.”
In fact you could see their car just a few houses down the street. Granted, taking the call made you feel a bit guilty, but the parents had assured you that if you had someone call about your offer you could take the call.
“I can call back later if that works better.”
You pulled the plastic fork out of one of the boys’ hands and mouth ‘don’t you dare’. You can respect the sibling urge to annoy the younger siblings, but you can’t let him chase his siblings with forks.
“Actually the parents are pulling into the driveway. If you want, I know a place we could meet. It’ll give me a chance to introduce myself to your kid or kids. Does this number work to text you the address?”
You wipe the youngests face off, freeing their smile from pizza sauce. A car door closes and a chorus of ‘mom’ and ‘dad’ ring from around the kitchen.
“Only if it’s alright with you. I don’t want you to go out of your way.”
“No, it's fine. There wasn’t enough food for me to eat anything so it’s a good time for me to have dinner.”
You hand the youngest off to the open arms of their dad. You hear the flurry of kisses that makes the toddler laugh. It’s adorable to see how much the family cared for each other.
“Alright, I’ll meet you there.”
“Sounds like a plan. I hope to see you in about twenty minutes.”
“I’m so lucky you guys had mac and cheese left. This usually sells fast.”
You flash a smile at your friend. This was definitely your favorite spot. Practically everything they sold was homemade, from the mac and cheese right down to the cupcakes. It was all made with love, and perhaps tiredness. Not to mention, as a regular you got to try the new stuff early. That includes the napkin of cookies that they gave you after they took your order.
“Just for you, my loyal customer. Besides dinner, why are you here? Got a hot date or something?” she gives you a cheeky grin.
You wipe your mouth and shake your head. “Nope. Meeting a potential gig here. Figured since I needed to eat here works.”
At that moment, the bell above the door rings. In steps a man, smartly dressed in a clean pair of jeans and a maroon polo, with his son in tow. The man locks eyes with you right away before quickly scanning the whole cafe. His son was eagerly looking at your stack of cookies.
“I’m Aaron Hotchner. I was looking for a (Y/N) (L/N)?”
You stand up. “Right here. I’ve already had dinner but if you two would like something feel free to order it. I’ll pay for it.”
The son is quick to make a dash to your table once his dad strides toward you. He puts his little hands on the table and looks up at you with big eyes. You can see the lights reflected in them and you know that if you get the gig those eyes will be the death of you.
“Can I have one of those cookies, please? There aren’t any of them in the case.”
Aaron puts his hand on his son’s shoulder and steers him toward the counter. “It’s not nice to ask for other people’s things, Jack.”
You hide a smile behind your hand. Sure you shouldn’t want to give him a cookie, but he asked nicely and is just too cute. As much as you want to spend time fawning over the fact that not only is the kid adorable, he’s got good manners, you try to focus on Aaron.
Given the fact that he didn’t mention or bring a wife with him, you figure that she isn’t in her son’s life anymore. You make a mental note to ask about it in private. That sort of topic is sensitive for kids, so you don’t plan on broaching it in front of Jack.
“I don’t mind letting him have one of my cookies. I don’t think I’ll be able to eat all four of them by myself anyway.”
Aaron gives Jack a gentle nudge your way. It takes him just a few steps to run to your table. He climbs up on a chair and sets his hands in his lap. He never looks directly at you, only at the table and the stack of cookies.
“It’s fine if you have one. Your name is Jack, right?”
Jack nods his head and reaches out for the cookies. He held it in his hand and took a tentative bite out of it. Crumbs fell to the table and you slide a spare napkin across to him.
“I’m sorry if I had called at a bad time, I didn’t realize you would be busy.”
Aaron sets down a cup in front of Jack. There’s whipped cream poking out of the top signaling it’s a hot chocolate. Jack seems eager to keep the sweets coming as he starts to drink.
“It’s not a big deal. If everytime someone called was a good time, it would probably be a bad sign.” You took a sip of your coffee. “Actually you had great timing. Today was my last day with the Smiths.”
“If you don’t mind me asking, how long have you been babysitting?”
Jack eyes the cookies as he polished off the one he had grabbed. You slide them a little closer to the boy and give him a nod. He looks up at his dad for his confirmation.
“Since high school. I was already watching my younger siblings and figured what’s a few more. I even scheduled college around one of the families. Most of the families I’ve worked with work long or random hours.”
“That’s good to hear. I tend to have to go out of state for my job.”
As you sit and discuss things like pay and qualifications, Jack falls asleep on his dad. You can hear the soft little puffs of air as he dreams, and you realize it’s gotten later than you anticipated. The cafe is supposed to close in ten minutes and you feel the exhaustion hit you like a truck.
“If it’s okay, I can start tomorrow. I’d be more than happy to take care of Jack.”
Aaron runs his fingers through the boy’s hair and lets out a sigh. You know he’s thinking hard about what he should do. The conversation shows how much he loves his son. It’s heartwarming to see and you want to take a picture of them.
“That sounds good. I’ll text you the address later, but I think it’s time to go now.”
You chuckle. “Yeah he’s out for the night. I’m surprised he fell asleep so quickly even with the sugar.”
Aaron gently picks Jack up. “It’s been a long day.”
You follow him to the door. He does his best to walk in a way that doesn’t disturb Jack, and you find yourself admiring him. Being a single parent can be hard, and Aaron seems to handle it with grace.
“I’ve got it. I can get the car door for you too.”
Thankfully, the car was right in front of the cafe. There’s a booster seat in the back seat, and you can see a variety of kids' toys littering the floor. It doesn't take long for Aaron to buckle Jack in. The kid doesn’t even stir.
“Thank you for being able to meet me here. I know it’s not a very convenient place, but I’m so grateful,” you say.
Aaron gives you a soft smile. “Thank you for being able to start tomorrow. Jack seems to like you so I think you’ll be a good fit.”
“Well then I’ll be at your place at 6 am sharp. Have a good night, Aaron.”
“Get home safe, (Y/N). I’ll see you in the morning

A trend I noticed last season (which I absolutely loved last season by the way) is that RCG seem to be focusing the finale on an emotional arc for one character. Last season's was Charlie, and before that was Mac. We know this season's finale is about Dennis. If I recall correctly (and I may actually be wrong because for the past few years I have intentionally been avoiding any kind of behind the scenes and fore-knowledge of any of my fandoms, simply because I prefer going in blind) Always Sunny has been renewed until season eighteen. So, if I am correct, that gives us enough for each main character to have an arc. I had been hoping that season eighteen would be Dennis personally, but that was purely preference and not based on anything else. Seventeen and eighteen would leave room for Frank and Dee to have their emotional finale.
Given that Dennis will be sixteen's finale, let's focus on him. With Mac, it was his sexuality (and also about trying to find his father's acceptance, which he didn't get - but he did, however, get Frank's, for the time being anyway.) Charlie was about his absent biological father . . . but also his found family returning to help him, and admitting that he wished Frank really had been his dad (which Frank also wished.)
Mac's sexuality and Charlie's desire to know who his father is were both brought up and discussed multiple times throughout the show, building so that the "ends" of their respective arcs were meaningful. They weren't just pulled out of thin air and contained to their character-specific finale episodes. So it's safe to say that Dennis' (and Frank's, and Dee's) will also relate to something that's been following them throughout the series.
What could Dennis' be? The only common denominator between Mac's and Charlie's episodes were wanting something from a familial person, and receiving it from Frank. Is that coincidence, or intentional? Will Dennis need something and eventually return to Frank as his father? Will everyone accept Frank as their parental figure by the end, leaving Frank for last, to accept them all as his children? Regardless, coincidental or intentional, Frank taking that role is a secondary, and more general, arc. I am interested in the more targeted one.
What about Dennis' specific story? Mac had his sexuality and Charlie had his abandonment - so what will Dennis have?
Mac's sexuality makes sense, as for years coming to terms with it had been his character's primary focus. Charlie's desire to know, once and for all, who his father was does too, as that had been toyed with since the season two finale. What has been following Dennis repeatedly that could be possibly concluded when he takes his mental health day?
Emotions and identity.
We will see Dennis come to terms with what he feels, and who he is, away from the Gang, which he has tried to do before (The Gang Misses the Boat, Dennis' Double Life) for years . . . but this time, he will succeed.
That or he's gonna rage-kill Jack. I'm excited either way.

you know, it makes more sense to me to visualize the drakes as actually being a fairly physically affectionate family (whenever they were home at least)
because to me, it makes sense with tim's character that they were physically affectionate but more absent emotionally. because tim? tim is a hugger. you want full-on body hug, you want tim. so tim will be affectionate until the cows come home, but when it comes to actually having heart-to-heart emotional conversations? shut down.
anyways, here's some examples of the drakes/tim and being free with physical affection:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
detective comics #621
tim immediately goes in for a hug for comfort from bruce. tim also lovingly holds onto his father's hand as he lays in his hospital bed. this is shown to be pretty instictive for tim, to reach for physical affection for comfort--he's clearly also very comfortable doing so with his own father. what he doesn't ask for, what he keeps inside from bruce and from his dad, is all of his thoughts and emotions about everything that's going on. to me, this would make sense if he was used to getting hugs from his parent, but not feel like he's able to tell them how he feels inside.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
robin i #1, robin ii #4
the hand holding continues through tim's first and second robin mini-series. i think it's an interesting juxtaposition of tim being able to hold tight to his dad's hand while not feeling like he can actually tell him anything.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
robin iii #6, robin #7, nightwing #20
the casual physical affection continues. tim is clearly no stranger to hugging his dad and his dad clearly loves to hug his son. the hugs are assurance that they love each other, but also almost seem like they're there so the two don't actually have to talk about anything. was physical affection a way to try and show love without having to have any hard conversations?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
robin #66, robin #100
honestly, jack in general seems like the kind of guy who would rather just hug than have to talk about his feelings. the first panel is from when tim runs back to gotham from keystone and jack has just yelled at him very aggressively for running away. however, he's decided tim is right and gotham is home and as a way to fix things he goes straight to a group family hug. the second one is after they lost their fortune--jack is having a very hard time with the loss of the company. they have to let mrs. mac go (and jack agrees with tim that they should give her money from the sale of the redbird so she can go home) and jack's the one who gives her a big old i'm gonna miss you so much hug. easy for him to give physical affection, hard for him to open up emotionally about how he's being affected by this (kind of like his son, hmmm).
so overall, the drakes seem like they were actually fairly physically affectionate with their son through his life. tim is a big hugger (seriously, he hugs everyone and seems very comfortable with affection) and tends to reach out for comfort in the form of physical affection and has a very tactile way of comforting other people (hugs them, hand holding, shoulder touching) however struggles more on the emotional side of things. this seems fairly consistent to me if he grew up being shown physical affection as a stop-gap for his emotional needs not always being met.
as a super interesting contrast:
Tumblr media
robin #131
so in the war games arc after jack has found out tim is robin, the two are finally able to have more of an emotional connection and really finally talk to each other--but they're markedly more physically distant (not touching, can't even look at each other) now that everything is out in the open. they've lost the ability to act like everything is solved once they've hugged it out and therefore don't have to think about it ever again.

Daddy daughter dinners, Jack Harlow
Dad!Jack🫶
“Hey baby,” Jack cooed, entering Athena's playroom. “Hi dada,” she ran to him, wrapping her small arms around his legs. “It’s time for dinner sweetheart.” He picked her up as she huffed and bit his shoulder. “Uhm hello- I just told you I’m feeding you. Why’re you trying to eat me?” He joked as she giggled and rested her head on his chest as he carried her downstairs.
“What for dinner?” She asked as he placed her in her special chair. It was slightly higher than the other chair, so she could get used to sitting in a normal chair but still reach the table. “I made mac and cheese.” He smiled, and grabbed her a little pink bowl along with a small fork. “Box?” She questioned as he sighed. “Yeah baby, we all know I can’t cook, there’s no need to point it out.” He booped her nose making her smile. “Mama point it out,” she crossed her arms over her chest, just like he does. “Yeah? Well, she’s a big meanie.” He put mac and cheese in her small bowl, along with his.
“Okay, c’mon let’s say grace before we eat.” He whispered, as she nodded and held out her hand. He said a short prayer, before pressing a soft kiss to her little hand and letting it go. “Small bites remember.” He pushed her curls out of her face, as they bounced around when she nodded. “Wait- when’s Mama coming back?” She pouted, turning around in her chair to fully face him. “She’ll be back tomorrow night, but you might be asleep by then.” He poked her cheek, trying to cheer her up. “I don’t see her?” Her eyes glazed over with unshed tears. “D’you wanna stay up and wait for her?” He asked as she nodded sadly. “Alright, we can do that then. But only if you finish your food.” He smiled as she giggled and turned around.

Comparing the types of abuse and ACES experienced by the gang during childhood. LONG POST
Physical Abuse
Mac from his mother
Both Charlie and Mac are physically abused by peers. Specially mention to Charlie being force-fed things.
Emotional Abuse - Every Single One of Them
Charlie’s mom is coddling, controlling, emotionally manipulative - although possibly not intentionally - and expects/requires Charlie to take care of her.
Mac’s mom actively rejects Mac and seemingly always has. She barely speaks to him and expects him to remain quiet as much as possible. She actively insults him. Luther is homophobic and enforced an unobtainable standard of masculinity onto Mac. Seems to enjoy setting up tests for Mac to fail. Is hot-and-cold and unpredictable in his affection
Dennis is the Golden Child for his mom. She has high standards of presentable-ness he must maintain. She seems to have inspired his eating disorders and fear of aging or being ugly. He learns from her that degrading his sister is necessary to maintain his ‘status’/safety.
Dee is despised by her mother and scapegoated. She is demeaned constantly, including for a medical condition and the treatment she needs.
Both twins are ignored by there father and sporadically antagonized. Frank demeans them, insults them, and creates elaborate tricks to upset them for his own entertainment.
All members are bullied in their childhood. Special mention to Dee and Charlie.
Sexual Abuse
Charlie. Molested by his uncle, whom his mother allowed him to share a room with. His mother ignores Charlies distress enough that Jack can be actively Inappropriate in front of Bonnie and she does not react to him voicing discomfort.
Dennis is a victim of statutory rape. He rationalizes it as something he should have enjoyed. Also, I’d like the throw out that his relationship with Barbara feels very emotional-incest in my opinion.
Both Charlie and the Twins are exposed to the sexual activities of adults at a young age due to Bonnie doing sex work and Frank hiring sex workers.
Not quite sexual abuse, but Mac forces himself to have a lot of sex with people he is not attracted to in order to prove his worth and masculinity.
Physical Neglect
CHARLIE. Did not have anyone making him bathe as a child enough that he was visibly filthy throughout seemingly all of highschool. His adult teeth issues imply he was not taught to brush them and probably was not taken to a dentist. Presumably not to a doctor either.
Charlie was allowed to start doing drugs [inhalants, which are dangerous] seemingly without intervention despite it happening at school and being a spectacle among the students.
This is only speculation but given Charlie’s adult eating habits, I wonder what his food situation was like growing up. Also when did Charlie stop using toilets
Both Mac and Charlie are under supervised and allowed to get into dangerous situations
Emotional Neglect
EVERY ONE OF THEM IM NOT GONNA LIST IT ALL OUT.
Special mention to Frank seemingly actively teaching Dennis to repress his pain.
Mentally Ill Parents and Parents with Addictions
BONNIE BONNIE BONNIE
Also Mrs. Mac appears to be pretty depressed. Chain-smokes.
Frank is Frank
Barbara is a drug addict. Referred to by Frank as ‘pill popping’
Luther sold drugs, presumably there were drugs in the household during mac’s childhood. Presumably Luther and Mrs. Mac were users if not addicts.
Jack is not a parents but was present in Charlies childhood and has some sort of dysmorphia or delusion regarding his hands.
Parental Incarceration and Abandonment
Charlie’s Dad
Luther
Education Neglect
Charlie has been diagnosed with any type of learning disability despite being functionally illiterate. Was never given any type of help for behavioral issues despite still biting at least as late as elementary school. As far as we know he never had school staff intervene with the horrific bullying he experienced and no one appears to have called CPS despite him being visibly neglected. [I’m not sure what the mandatory reporter laws of Phili in the 80′s were like but what we know of Charlie’s school year would be a mandatory report for teachers today]
