my friend and i have an entire team of foxhole OCs and its so funny how clearly you can see our ravens bias bc the team captain is a huge riko fan and the Definately Not team captain is a jean fan, and their coach is a former raven

The St Felix Lynxes (we are not american and simply refused to go with a real school)

(This isnt my art but they dont really have social media. They told me to link to their artfight- all art in this post is theirs)

The dynamic here is that 01 (Priore Marino) was the captain and then just. disappeared. So 05(Roman Denar) took over as captain and played the whole last year as captain - and their stuff is set in the fox timeline and theyre from the ravens old district so Denar is pretty excited about this next year because now that the ravens have switched, they have a chance to go further. He's excited for his second year as captain -- and on the first training session of the new year, Priore walks in, demands he strips so he can take his number back and humiliates him in front of everyone

02 (Marco Bianchi) and 08 (Noah Baker) are Priore's backliner bodyguards essentially and make sure Denar does as he's told. Marco disappeared with Priore but Noah stayed (Priore went home to Italy but nobody is sure why. im also not sure why, these OCs are from 2020 and i cant seem to find any note of what he was doing. he did get top surgery while he was gone tho)

Coach is really awful (Affectionate) because being trained in the nest does things to a guy. he's an alcoholic, hes a bastard and he wont let any of his players kill each other but only really stops priore when he makes denar late for practice

Coach was originally a lynx, got scouted into the ravens and did the rest of his collage career there, ended up too traumatised to want to go pro so went back to the lynxes as a coach Priore didn't get into Edgar Allen so came to St Felix because Coach used to be a raven, its the best he can get (priore idolises and resents the ravens)

Some of the others Not including coach i think we ended up with 7 fleshed out players but we wanted them to be a team of 15 (i have other art of 'mine' but its old and i dont like it lmao)

as a team they have the shortest shorts in class 1 exy

We made it a point that Priore wasn't mafia bc we wanted to be slightly less edgy than the books. but there is art like this so idk if we succeeded in that

just read on your meta on jean reiner marco. im sorry but u made it sound like jean has no personality or own morals if it wasnt for marco. marcos death wasnt the only thing that spur him into being good tho. he literally said he doesnt want to lose comrades after trost that includes marco and all the other comrades they lost because he didnt expect himself to care that much about them. i will argue that losing sasha has more of an impact to jean because simply, they know and work with each other longer. jean also acted on his own to lead the charge at trost without marco asking him to because jean already has leadership qualities on his own. marco didnt even respond favorably initially but funnily reiner did. marco was just one part of jeans character development. jean has so many other important moments that led him to become who he is later on. he also sees himself as a killer equivalent to the warriors because one death to jean is too many. plus dont forget he is complicit in bertolt being eaten by titan armin as well. i dont think he doesnt have the capability to not forgive reiner because if he doesn't, that will make him a big hypocrite.

Did you, though? Or were you just looking to confirm what a *certain* someone that has made downplaying Marco and what he meant to Jean an integral part of their *ship* had to say about it?

Even if that's not the case, I never said Marco is the reason Jean became good, what I actually said is that he was the first person that made Jean aware of the skills and qualities he already had at a critical moment in Jean's character arc. And bc of that, we could see the long lasting effects it had over his development. I never said that was the only important moment in his development, I was simply focusing on his relationship with Marco bc, yknow, they're my favorite characters? I even linked another Jean meta that analizes how he always has it in him to make the right, selfless decissions despite his major flaws.

You're not wrong in saying that one death to Jean is too many (that's why I said he'd be ooc if the deaths of his former comrades didn't burden him) but you're only focusing on the character's in-story intent while I was focusing on the author's intent. I'm not going to explain again why comparing Jean (& Connie) to the warriors is a false equivalence and Isayama's own writing doesn't support it; the author's intent is to force this idea to make a "war is bad" (not wrong) "both sides are equally bad" (extremely wrong) argument. This post explains why this is an erroneous idea. Not to mention that this is a fascist talking point that only helps the aggressors by sugarcoating broken, lazy morals with pacifism.

Also, I know that most fans like to pretend that the series started with the Marley arc, but that's not the case. There is a major context that separates Reiner's actions from Jean's actions. What Jean did during the clash with the yeagerists was necessitated by the alliance's haste to save whatever was left of the world. What Reiner did during the pre timeskip siege of the walls was motivated by hatred and genocide. Plain and simple. The difference is that Jean didn't have to commit unspeakable attrocities to realize his morals were broken. No, his morals were influenced by loss. Marco became an integral part of his moral compass bc once he lost him --to a fricking titan and without knowing what were his last moments, mind you, Levi too was traumatized after he's lost someone dear to him to a titan for the first time-- he better understood loss and just how much he wants to protect the lives of others. He chose to join the Scouts bc he understood what was the true meaning of all of that "dedicate your heart" fancy talking: preventing another senseless death, more excruciating pain, and giving hope where there is only despair.

There's also a big context when it comes to what happened before Bert's death, isn't there? You're oversimplifying two completely different situations to make a false equivalence. Personally, I hate oversimplifying things. Jean wouldn't be a hypocrite for being unable to forgive Reiner, he'd be more than justified. And who said Reiner should get over what happened to Bert? Ah right, I forgot that in the lore of a *certain* ship Reibert also gets downplayed.

I'm also having a very hard time understanding how does highlighting Jean's relationship with Marco translates as me saying that Jean didn't have any other meaningful relationships with other characters?

JSC is literally my favorite trio, and I hate the fact that the story didn't give us more insight on how much Sasha's death affected Jean and Connie. We see how much it ravaged the two of them after it happened (Connie's "soulmate" line still gets me) and after they saw her in the smoke, but we don't see any moment similar to Jean's monologue after Pieck got him out of Shiganshina (which was an obvious reference to the pyre scene), or when he saw Marco after Hange tried to convince him to join the alliance (and don't ignore the symbolism of only seeing Marco out of all the comrades he's lost along the way, which also includes Sasha). Her death must've been a major reason as to why Jean and Connie joined the alliance, but the story doesn't even imply it bc Isayama focused more on how much her death affected Eren and other characters instead (when he could and should've done both).

Don't get me wrong tho, I'm not trying to invalidate your opinion, I just don't really see the point in turning whose death had more of an impact on Jean into a competition. And I disagree with saying that more time spent with someone makes them more important (same with the idea that more screen time = a better character). Both Marco and Sasha were Jean's cherished friends, and I'd argue that losing them both affected him in different ways. The story, however, emphasizes more on how losing Marco affected him. Which is why I said Marco is Jean's most significant person and loss, bc Isayama wants us to remember that just as much as he wants us to remember his complicated friendship with Eren, as an example of another of his important relationships.

aot guys: boyfriend does your makeup challenge

reiner: knows what everything is because he loves standing in the doorway to watch you get ready any chance he gets. has also asked you questions about it before while sitting with you. he finds it so relaxing. reminds me of the guy in a video that FaceTimes his girl to talk about their days while she does her makeup. also actively pays attention to the brands and colors you prefer buying when you're out shopping together. but just cause he's watched you apply everything and technically knows the steps, he doesn't have the steadiest hand or smoothest application skills. gives it a valiant effort and it doesn't look half bad in the end!

jean: an artist so at least he gets color theory? lol But feels completely overwhelmed when presented with the task. Even if you aren't someone that has a bunch of things to choose from. Does have the common sense to read any labels to see what an item is for tho. So whether for eyes, lips, blush, etc. Takes soooo long with your eyeliner because he wants to try and do the winged eyeliner he's seen and wants it to be perfect. He's not used to such a tiny brush though, or the fact that skin moves and pulls with the pressure of the brush unlike canvas or paper. But he's a quick learner. In the end everything looks good! blended well and wings sharp enough to slice a titan! he's so proud when you tell him how well he did!

connie: taking this opportunity to experiment with a bunch of wild colors you'd never wear. doesn't care to look at what each thing is for. just chooses by color, texture, shinyness. claims he has some artistic direction/ theme he's being inspired by but is talkin straight out his ass. as soon as he's done and you get a look in the mirror 🤡🤡🤡... you are reaching for the makeup wipes cause WTF Connie?? He's laughing but swearing up and down he legit tried and thinks you look cool. 😒

marco: this sweetie!! I headcanon he grows up with older sisters and has watched them put on makeup before. therefore he knows pretty quick and easily what is used for what part of your face. knows a bunch of little tricks he's seen/heard his sisters talk about. Like using an index card edge or scotch tape to get a perfect wing. Or being sure to do the bottom lash mascara first so when you're opening your eyes wide the top lashes won't leave marks on your eyelids. best way to apply lashes. he knows so much! contouring and such is beyond his depth but he's got you dolled up ready for a date night on the town or photoshoot worthy in no time at all!

bertholdt: he's so nervous. when isn't he? lol he ends up choosing the minimal look to avoid messing up too badly. applies your eyeliner just to your top lid and gives the tiniest little baby wing from the corners. no eyeshadow. uses some blush on your cheeks that isn't a super bright or noticeable color cause he's scared to overdo it. bypasses the foundation and concealer. claims there's nothing about your face that needs to be concealed because you're so beautiful. surprisingly chooses a bold lip color though. he thinks it suits you. and turns bright red when he mentions liking when you leave lip prints on him but completely forgot this was all being recorded. he wants to curl into a ball and die of embarrassment but it's so cute!

porco: you think this is going to be a disaster. you're actually pretty surprised when he's picking up things and you're asking him what it is and he knows it exactly without having read the label. apparently he's paid closer attention to you getting ready than you getting ready than you ever thought. His hands are also steady as he holds your chin and gently turns your face to whatever angle he needs to apply your eye makeup. does take a long time though cause he's determined to make everything look perfect. he claims it's cause he doesn't want it to look sloppy and get roasted in any comments. it actually looks really good in the end, something you may have done yourself. but you tease that he's never allowed to complain about you taking a long time to get ready, ever again.

reincarnation AU related ask; preferably a modern AU, college age (don't have to be in college tho), maybe a recovering/sober Marco or Jean, definitely have one of them break up with the other because "I'm not good enough for you" but clearly they can't stay away from each other, 100% friends to lovers BUT PLEASE DONT LET IT BE TOO LONG UNTIL THEY KISS/GET TOGETHER I rather the angst be after they actually get together and navigate the relationship and so forth :] tbh angst prior to them getting together IS TOO OVERDONE

Anon you’ve seasoned my brain broth of ideas and I loved writing these out for ya, inbox definitely staying wide open for any more ideas people may have (doesn’t even have to be about a reincarnation au!)

Okay yay! Here’s what I got, all under the cut:

Marco wouldn’t ever break things off with Jean, he’s too aware of the fact that it would hurt Jean. I also like to think that despite slightly underestimating himself, Marco is fairly secure in his self-image (he’s worked hard to get to this place).

Jean on the other hand… well he’s got some issues and tends to gaslight himself into thinking he’s 1) not good enough, 2) bad for Marco, and 3) better off letting Marco enjoy his college experience without being bogged down by the delinquent that’s been suspended twice for fighting Eren.

Perhaps he gets pulled up before a disciplinary board after a particularly rough fight with Eren goes wrong and they end up breaking a college statue or something similar. Maybe Marco (the kid with a squeaky clean record and stellar grades who works so hard to maintain a full-ride scholarship so there’s money left for his younger siblings to get the best opportunities) is also pulled into the meeting by proxy. (He was probably the one who pulled Jean away from the scuffle and got lumped in).

The stress the entire situation would cause Marco, the anxiety, the shame - all of it is stuff Jean is used to, but not Marco.

Instead of helping him through it, Jean freezes up and realises “I did this to him. I’m the cause of what Marco is having to face. I can’t put him through this, it’s not fair.”

He pulls back, suddenly and heartbreakingly (for Marco).

Jean is stubborn, but he can also be selfish. He doesn’t cope well with extended periods of ‘avoid Marco at all costs.’ So, his idea is to break off the odd-romantic-chemistry-thing they had, and limit themselves to friends.

They work their way up. Jean still keeps Marco at arms-length. He shuts down the uh… less than platonic feelings he definitely still holds for the other boy.

Jean still keeps him company while he studies, they still make flashcards together, and he still relentlessly insists on Marco taking breaks and keeping healthy. They still find the same seats next to each other at lunch, they still find themselves circling back to each other at every new corner and situation, as though hopelessly magnetised despite everything else.

Marco is Jean’s constant. He’s always there. But Jean keeps up the desperate “just friends” charade for a few weeks, or a couple months at most.

Marco is smart enough to know that it’s less about them as a couple and more about Jean’s own web of insecurities that holds him back. He gives Jean as much time as he needs. As long as they’re still in each other’s lives, he’s happy and won’t push for more until Jean is ready.

It’s the rest of the group that stir things up.

After a while it becomes evident that half of them don’t even know Marco and Jean have broken up.

Eren, Reiner, Historia, Mikasa, and Annie are either oblivious or indifferent to any minute changes noticed between the two of them.

While Ymir, Connie, and Sasha actively berate Jean about it. They poke fun and (in their own way) help him realise he’s being cowardly by burying his head in the sand.

Armin and Bertholdt are open and honest in a raw, vulnerable way that pushes Jean to a precipice of realisation.

He isn’t doing this because he lost faith in the relationship. He’s doing this because he’s painfully aware of his own flaws, and he’s terrified of the part they’ll play in the unknown progression of his first serious relationship.

In light of this, things change again.

Marco and Jean are together, properly this time. Nobody’s foot is hovering out the door.

Jean is hesitant, sure, but Marco’s understanding in the face of everything Jean did has strengthened his ability to trust that he can actually lean on Marco when he doesn’t feel like he’s enough.

It’s odd really. Jean seeking support from the one person who he feels he isn’t good enough for.

It’s messy, it’s patchwork, it’s a jumble of feelings and insecurities, but it’s them. It’s what they are.

Jean is a wobbly rock in a stream of college stress and Marco is the moss that keeps him lodged in place, despite the ever-changing current.

And the current definitely comes.

You pick it, there are a world of options.

An accident on campus? A near-fatal injury that leaves someone (probably Marco) hurt, suffering, and (as anon mentioned) in need of recovery and sobriety? Family problems? Interpersonal conflicts? Lost scholarships? Failing classes?

Perhaps the sudden appearance of unexplainably vivid dreams of small towns, unmeasurable walls, large, genderless titan that leave blood, bodies, and lost soulmates in their wake?

So many possibilities, but throughout them all (as long as everyone remains alive) the two of them have each other.

"Can you believe we're here?" Jean finally broke the silence, his voice tinged with a mix of awe and bitterness. "After everything we've been through, we're still fighting for survival."

Reiner glanced at him, his expression a mixture of exhaustion and determination. "Yeah, it's hard to wrap my head around sometimes. But we have to keep going, Jean. We owe it to everyone who's fought and died."

Reiner took a deep breath, his voice steady but filled with vulnerability. "I've kept this hidden for so long, but I can't hold it back any longer. Jean, I... I care about you more than I ever realized. Through all the battles, the pain, and the mistakes, you've been a constant in my life. You challenge me, you make me question things, and you've shown me what it means to be truly strong."

Jean's gaze softened, his heart beginning to race as he processed Reiner's confession. "Reiner..."

"I know I don't deserve forgiveness," Reiner continued, his eyes never leaving Jean's. "But I want you to know that my feelings for you are genuine. I don't expect you to forgive me for what I've done, but I needed you to know the truth."

Tears welled up in Jean's eyes as he reached out to place a hand on Reiner's arm. "Reiner, I... I don't know what to say."

Reiner's lips curled into a small, sad smile. "You don't have to say anything, Jean. I just needed you to know."

They stood there, bathed in the moonlight, their emotions swirling between them like a gentle breeze. The weight of their pasts, their regrets, and their unspoken feelings hung in the air, creating a bond that transcended their roles as soldiers.
