so. i'm intoxicated. and today, here is my presentation on a dark rewrite of the first season of legends of tomorrow i hold near and dear to my heart. This is because I am currently watching it and every time rip monologues I think this.

RIP. SHOULD HAVE BEEN THE MAIN VILLAIN. THE VILLAIN WHO WANTED TO SAVE HIS FAMILY SO BAD HE WOULD RISK EVERYONE AND ANYONE TO DO SO.

SAVAGE. SHOULD HAVE BEEN THE RED HERRING. YES, HE IS NOT A GOOD GUY: HE HAS BEEF WITH CARTER AND KENDRA (WHICH IS WHO RIP EXPLOITS TO SELL HIS STORY THAT HE'S A GOOD GUY) AND HE KILLED RIP'S FAMILY BUT HE'S ACTUALLY NOT THE TARGET EVERYONE'S EYE SHOULD BE ON. IT'S ACTUALLY RIP TEARING THROUGH TIME TO KILL SAVAGE THAT IS WHAT IS GOING TO DESTROY THE UNIVERSE, AND WHAT EVERYONE IS SEEING WHEN THEY SHOW THEM THE FUTURE IS BECAUSE OF THE DAMAGE THEY'RE DOING GOING AFTER SAVAGE. THE LONGER IT TAKES THEM TO FIGURE OUT THAT RIP IS THE VILLAIN THE MORE CEMENTED THE DESTROYED FUTURE BECOMES.

MICK. SHOULD HAVE BEEN THE FIRST TO FIGURE IT OUT. THIS IS WHY RIP HATED HIM IMMEDIATELY, BECAUSE HE KNOWS MICK IS ONTO HIM, AND THAT IS WHY HE DIMINISHES MICK SO BADLY TO HIS WORST TRAITS. THAT IS WHY MICK DECIDES TO BECOME CHRONOS. HE WANTS RIP TO BE FRIGHTENED OF HIM TO GET PAYBACK FOR HOW RIP SIGNALED HIM OUT IMMEDIATELY, AS WELL AS SAVE THE MEMBERS OF THE WAVERIDER. HE WANTS RIP TO RUE THE DAY HE DECIDED TO UNDERESTIMATE HIM.

SNART. SHOULD HAVE PRETENDED TO NOT KNOW BUT ACTUALLY FIGURED IT OUT AT THE SAME TIME AS MICK. HE WAITS TO EXPOSE RIP BECAUSE HE'S CURIOUS ABOUT HIS PLANS. HE FINALLY HAS ENOUGH WHEN SNART REALIZES THAT RIP THINKS SNART IS AS COLD-BLOODED AS HE IS -- THAT RIP GENUINELY THOUGHT SNART WOULD KILL MICK TO SERVE HIMSELF. THAT'S WHEN HE FINALLY BEGINS TO SHED THE FACADE THAT HE IS NOT THE GOOD MAN BARRY ALLEN HAS ALWAYS SAID HE COULD BE.

SARAH. SHOULD HAVE NOTICED RIP HAD A DARK SIDE TO HIM, BUT GREW TO BE QUITE CLOSE TO HIM. SHE DIDN'T WANT TO BELIEVE WHAT SHE WAS SEEING. SHE WANTED TO BELIEVE IN THE GOOD OF HIM TO PROVE SHE STILL WAS HUMAN TO HERSELF.

RAY. SHOULD HAVE BEEN SO DEPRESSED AND DESPERATE TO BE SEEN AS SOMETHING THAT HE REFUSES TO ADMIT HE COULD HAVE SIGNED ONTO A MISSION DRIVEN BY A MADMAN. IT MAKES HIM FEEL MORE NAIVE THAN EVER TO KNOW THAT THOSE HE WROTE OFF AS CRIMINAL AND AMORAL FIGURED RIP OUT BEFORE HE DID.

KENDRA. SHOULD HAVE BEEN THE FIRST TO WANT REVENGE FOR THE BETRAYAL BECAUSE OF WHAT HAPPENED TO CARTER. HER INNER-GODDESS IS ITS MOST INCONSOLABLE UPON THE REVEAL.

STEIN. SHOULD BE ABSOLUTELY MORTIFIED THAT HE RISKED THE LIFE OF HIS PARTNER (AGAIN) OVER A MISSION HE DID NOT VET PROPERLY, SHOWING HE HAD ALWAYS BEEN A SELF-SERVING BASTARD AND THAT HE HADN'T CHANGED SINCE RONNY.

JAX. SHOULD HAVE BEEN THE FIRST TO THINK OF A WAY TO STOP RIP WITHOUT CAUSING WORLD DESTRUCTION. THE LAST THING RIP SHOULD HAVE FOUND OUT BEFORE DEATH WAS THAT THE ONLY ONE WHO CHANGES THE TRAGEDY OF THEIR PASTS IS JAX, WHOSE FATHER COMES HOME.

but yeah. that's some of my thoughts on how I'd rewrite legends of tomorrow season one to serve darker whims.

Happy 7th Birthday Legends

Although this is about the Legends, I can’t start this post without The Flash. I didn’t watch Arrow to begin with (too dark and brooding for my taste) so my journey in the Arrowverse started in 2014 with the Flash. I fell in love with the show instantly, the humour, the mystery, the characters. But my focus today is on the legends, so let’s start with the first ones I met.

The Legends

Snart and Rory, the duo, were always a delight to see in an episode of the flash. Beginning with Flash 1x04 and following their character arc you can see there is more to them than meets the eye and that they aren’t bad people just criminals. Snart was one of my favourite characters on the Flash.

In Flash 1x08 I am introduced to some Arrow characters for the first time (but not Sara because she’s dead 🥺), and we first meet Firestorm (1.0). I love Robbie, instant fangirl, but he isn’t a legend so let’s keep going. Martin Stein’s disappearance is one of the many mysteries that S1 Flash is unraveling. The strange merging to become firestorm was such a cool story. I'm a Victor Garber fan and a big lover of scientist characters so obviously loved him in this role.

I started watching Arrow when the crossover of The Flash happened 1x08 / 3x08 so Sara was dead at the time and the main arc in Arrow was about her murder but I didn’t really care too much at the time. So we will circle back to her in a minute.

I first saw Ray in Arrow 3x9. His storyline is blurry, I remember him and Felicity were a couple and that I loved when he was a dorky little goofball but Arrow is too dark and brooding for that most of the time.

Anyway… back to Sara. I love S4 of Arrow. It's my favourite season of arrow hands down no contest, Damien Darhk is the best. This is finally where I meet Sara for the first time. The Buffy fan in me was LIVING for the resurrection storyline culminating in John Constantine restoring her soul. It’s just chefs kiss.

Kendra starts out as a small character in Flash 1x23, but it was clear to be building to something. She doesn’t stand out but the entire point of her character is that she thinks she’s just a regular person until it’s revealed she isn’t.

The final Legend to be introduced before the series is Jax in The Flash 2x04 and I’m honestly sad because I love Robbie and it feels too convenient that Stein can just merge with someone else. I go on to adore him but that’s how I felt in the beginning.

The Crossover

The Flash 2x08 Legends of Today and Arrow 4x08 Legends of Yesterday make up the 2 part crossover Heroes Join Forces and serve as a set up for Legends of Tomorrow. We get our first taste of the story arc for Legends, the introduction of Vandal Savage and the Hawks. Carter exposition dump is everything, I absolutely love the Hawks story: ancient Egypt, soulmates, deathless villain, resurrections, I eat that shit up. So I enjoyed the hell out of these episodes. The wing reveal was iconic, sure it’s very tropey but so good. The flashbacks give me Mummy vibes, I loved it so much. Time travel🙌. Seriously though, I love these episodes.

Legends of Tomorrow

The Legends of Tomorrow pilot lived up to my hype, I knew and loved these characters and time travel is my favourite sci-fi concept. I was most excited for more Snart and I just love a good ragtag team up. Reading the synopsis while I type, oh yeah, I was super pissed at Stein - seriously wtf he drugged Jax. Rip’s agenda - like I get it mate but you still kinda suck. It was clear the show had potential and the characters (and actors) had good chemistry, despite them only just getting to know each other and becoming teammates, plus time travel is just soo fun.

A wobbly first season that I still enjoyed the entire time, While by no means as good as the show ended up being, a start. It wasn’t my favourite Arrowverse show that year but it wasn’t my least favourite and some weeks it was the best episode of the week. An incredible journey from that beginning to becoming not just my favourite Arrowverse show but one of my all time favourite shows. The show went from mediocre with potential to great in the second season and then outstanding in its 3rd and then somehow each season after was it still better than the last.

Bring them back.

The fanfic I’m working on has given me the crackship/rarepair of Jax and Cassandra Savage because of course it has! A determined and positive mechanic that can sometimes be bitter and sassy x badass fighter guilty for her past actions that is also finding her own sassy sense of humor.
