Mientras su familia busca desesperadamente a Yi Kyung, descubren en un pequeño pueblo pesquero a una chica que luce exactamente igual a ella, por lo que contratan a Na Doo Rim (Yang Jin Sung) para que se haga pasar por ella hasta que encuentren a la verdadera Yi Kyung. Pero cuando la dulce y noble Doo Rim choca con el frío y prepotente Kang Joo, las cosas empiezan a complicarse en este cuento de hadas donde nada es lo que parece y las conspiraciones rodean a todos.

“Bride of the Century” es otra joya que encontré en el video de “kdramas realmente buenos pero poco conocidos”. 

Tiene la dosis perfecta de romance, suspenso y angst (especialmente al final) además de un talentoso cast que incluye al maravillo Lee Hong Gi (FT Island) como protagonista y a la talentosa Yang Jin Sung, misma actriz que fue protagonista en My Unfortunate Boyfriend.

En cuanto a los personajes, mi favorito fue Lee Roo Mi, quien, a pesar de ser la segunda protagonista que nunca obtendría al chico, supo cuando rendirse y para mí eso fue lo más admirable. Por eso Roo Mi no fue pero se convirtió en mi second female lead favorita.

Choi Kang Joo es un personaje que al principio aparenta frialdad, pero no el fondo tiene un lado amable… muy en el fondo porque sus esfuerzos por ser frío sí me molestaron un poco al principio, especialmente por cómo trataba a Yi Kyung. En cuanto a Hong Gi, pues todos conocemos su voz y honestamente no pude evitar recordar a Jeremy de You’re Beautiful jaja, para mí Hong Gi siempre será mi Jeremy.

El personaje que creo que merecía más es Sung Hyuk, el hermano de Yi Kyung. Siempre fue atento y gentil con Na Doo Rim pero obtuvo la peor parte por todo el plan maquiavélico que su mamá y su hermana planearon. Ellas no merecían tener a un hijo y a un hermano (respectivamente) tan bueno como Sung Hyuk.

La química entre los protagonistas estuvo excelente, pero hubiese estado aún mejor si su relación hubiese tomado al menos un  capítulo más para que les creyera y se sintiera un poco más natural el enamoramiento. 

POTENCIAL SPOILER - Comentario sobre el final: Honestamente amé los capítulos finales. Desde el capítulo 12 la historia empezó a tornarse angsty y yo disfruto los kdramas angsty. El final en general fue super bueno, y muy melodramático sobre todo. Llegó un momento en que le gritaba a la pantalla “¿qué es esto?” porque era demasiado triste. Per confíen en mí, termina con un final feliz. 

Curiosidades:

 La casa de Yi Kyung es la misma en donde hacen la sesión de fotos por el compromiso de Esther Lee y el CEO Choi de The Heirs (2013).

El lugar donde Yi Kyung y Kang Joo almuerzan con la abuela materna de Kang Joo en el capítulo 8, es la misma donde Jin Ho y Gae In toman el desayuno en el último capítulo de Personal Taste.

En el minuto 38:40 del capítulo final (16), el corazón que está en la esquina del techo, también aparece en Iron Man como un templo.

The story revoles around Jin Ho-gae. To be honest I was quite sceptical about his character from the start due to the cases involving that young girl's disappearance. But then I realised that is exactly what the writers wanted. The character then grew on me. My favourite character by far would be - Gongmyung Pil ( Jin Ho gae's partner) , he is soo sweet but also a great detective and he cares for people, willing to give his life for others. But you don't see that a lot, like it is not his entire storyline which is good. The dynamic between him and Ho gae is a site to see 😁.

I love the police and firefighter dynamic that was going on. The cooperation and solving cases together was quite fun to watch. And to be honest Do jin and Song Seol ( breaks my heart when those two could not be together) When Do jin died. I was stunned, like I had no idea they would kill one of their major characters off. The way he died just, yea. Upsetting. But it gave depth to the story. A perfect climax.

But I am glad at least Song seol and Jin Ho gae got together. They are adorable 😍

Cuties. I love them.

Season 1 ending was quite confusing for me to be honest. As I thought the case of the girl's disappearance would be their end game. But I liked that it was not as conventionally put. The arson case. Oh what a ride. It was exciting kept me on the edge throughout.

Finally find some time to squeeze and watch this Korean drama “Personal Taste”— which is prolly aired a decade ago. Actually I never get the chance to finish it, I always ended up watching first five episodes then I lost track.. I remembered watching this when I was in college, but due to busy schedule I forget to finish it. Then around 2017 while we were traveling to South Korea, I watched it throughout our almost 4 hours travel. But again, didn’t finished it.

Jeon Jin Ho is an architect who dreams of making it big in the industry but somehow luck wasn’t on his side or rather, he didn’t have good connections. In some kind of twisted fate, he meets the naïve Park Gae In by accident in the bus and gets accused of being a pervert. They didn’t know that their lives will become intertwined when Gae In, the daughter of a famous architect gets dumped by her boyfriend for her best friend Kim In Hee who was also her housemate. In these series of unfortunate events in her life, the worst of all was when her debt from the bank was nearing its due date and her co-worker robbed her of her hard earned money. Thus she started looking for a housemate to at least pay her initial debt. Coincidentally Jin Ho wanted to see the interior of the house that Gae In lives in which her father has designed and sneak a peek at the blueprint of the house. Therefor he asked if he could rent the room which Gae In was subletting. With a couple of misunderstanding and some urging from Lee Yeong Seon who’s Gae In’s other best friend, she allowed Jin Ho to stay in her place all the while thinking he was gay. At a certain point, things get tricky when Jin Ho starts to fall for Gae In despite her naivety, brash attitude and unwomanly ways while on the other hand Gae In is also falling for Jin Ho despite the fact that she thinks he’s gay.

This is a really hilarious drama with conflicting emotions to watch. Why? It’s so hard to believe that Lee Min Ho’s character was supposed to a homosexual and that an older man in this drama legitimately liked him with the thought of him as one. The mishaps on how he has to keep his ruse on for the entirety of the drama brought me tears of laughter. There’s the plus point for the supporting actors too, since without them, the comedy wouldn’t be as effective.

Anyways, putting that aside, there’s another reason that made me watch this: Son Ye Jin.

Yes… the epic melodrama actress. I really wanted to see how she would fare being in a drama romcom. I’ve only seen her once in a rom-com-horror movie with Lee Min Ki, but in a drama, this was a first. I’ve always seen her in melodramatic roles but still, she totally nailed the character of Park Gae In. Though she’s gotten older and her beauty pretty much disappeared in this drama, just because her character’s personality was supposed to be tomboyish and scruffy due to her type of work which was woodcraft, I still love her to bits. Another reason I watched this drama was no other than Lee Min Ho. I know a lot of female Kdrama lovers have been into him one or another in their drama lives and truth be told I’m actually one of them for approximately 7 years ago. It’s probably because of that eye candy, the smile, the tallness, the oozing hotness and fashion sense… that’s all Lee Min Ho in this drama in which he pretends to be gay. I can’t believe he was able to pull off this character despite his manliness.

The series was quite funny due to its main concept: guy pretends to be gay, girl accepts guy whole heartedly because of his sexual orientation but ends up falling for him and having mixed feelings because she believes he is gay, then the guy falls for the girl but can’t really love her because he’s supposed to be gay. With this as your core plot, there were a lot of things that could happen and eventually it did happen. The only downer side of this is when we get to the last 3 episodes and this becomes too serious for my taste. I was sort of disappointed on how they inserted additional conflict to the story along with a twist, when the main conflict – guy pretending to be a gay – was already interesting enough. The twist wasn’t even that strong to make an impact in the whole story line. Just to say. Also there’s the back stabber bestfriend-boyfriend drama all throughout the series which was very much annoying.

All in all, setting those disappointing factors aside, I still end up loving the drama and would recommend it whole heartedly along with the cute memorable OST to listen from.
