Was thinking more about my monster au and if it would have substance or just be " the dads are monsters" and I realized it would be funny if they were monsters from the forgotten realms and got sucked into the normal world to find their sons. Their sons haven't fully hit " monster puberty" or some dumb shit yet so they blend in easier and the dads have to find them in mundane and safe places where they stick out.
Also it would be funny to find out that Henry wasn't always a Harpy but got adopted by harpies as a baby and he kinda. Got magicked into one. Even funnier if Jodie is a demon upon showing up but finds out he's human and has a magical girl transformation to be normal,,,
Also I'm still not over Selkie Ron like Lark cooked so hard with that. My little seal fella,,,, he winds up in an aquarium and had to pretend to be so incredibly normal but ends up stealing a herring bucket.
DIGS NAILS INTO ARMREST. Also Werewolf Darryl transforming by accident bc of emotion..... Naga Glenn trying to hide with dresses and coats ( it does NOT work).

Fucking Outcasts.
Ron hated them. Hated how they came into his town, around his wife and kids, and had the nerve to act like they belonged? They needed to be put back into their place. His home was no place for them to be walkin’ around, showin’ off how much of an abomination they were. It was unacceptable.
But he was no idiot. He knew it was illegal because, for some unknown reason, they were considered human by law. There was no tellin’ why anyone would consider those freaks to be human, but he knew how to keep himself out of trouble. With the law, at least. So he went on his hunting trips, got out some anger, and went back home.
Now, that didn’t mean he wasn’t going to take an opportunity when it presented itself.
After all, it wasn’t every day that he went hunting and got the perfect opportunity to start fixing the Outcast problem. Surely he couldn’t be faulted for deciding to go out and hunt on a beautiful fall day. It was something he did nearly every weekend during hunting season. The sky was blue, the clouds were fluffy, and the wind created just the right draft to keep the warm comfortable. There was nothing out of the ordinary.
Until Ron saw you. Oh, his hunting trip just got so much more exciting.
He had seen you in the forest far too many times in the past. Every time, there would be another Outcast freak to accompany you. More often than not it was some small black haired young lady that looked fairly normal, all things considered. But then there would be that werewolf girl or that vampire or even that gorgon kid. All freaks, all of you far too loud and invasive in his woods. Not once had he ever seen you alone.
Well. Not once had he ever seen you alone before now.
Admittedly, he would have rather had the chance to go after the werewolf. Think of all the praise he would get for takin’ that little bitch down. It wasn't every day someone got to take down a werewolf and live to tell the tale. But you? Well, you were a trophy in your own right. He was more than happy to mount your wings on a wall if that was the gift that was given to him. After all, a monster is a monster.
Your back was turned to him as he creeped up on you from behind. There was no tellin’ what you were doin’, but he could hear you talkin’ to someone. Something about bugs, he picked up. Good, he thought, too distracted to notice. The rough bark pressed into his arm as he stabilised his rifle against the limb, aiming directly at your left shoulder. The moment he saw the phone in your hand, he gently squeezed the trigger.
His first shot was a little high. With the ease of a practiced hunter, he cleared the round from the chamber. A slight jolt of adrenaline coursed through his veins when you lifted your phone up and he could see the bullet stuck in the case. What look did you have on your face, he wondered. Were you even aware you were being hunted? The next round was chambered and his aim was lowered before you even finished putting the phone back in your pocket.
The slight jolt of adrenaline turned to exhilaration when he saw your body pitch forward when the shot connected with your left shoulder. His pulse only continued to race when you slowly lifted your bloody hand up, confusion evident on your face. It was impressive, at least in his mind, that you hadn't screamed. Not yet, anyway. It was almost upsetting to miss out on those screams. But then when you hesitantly turned around and made eye contact with him?
Oh, it was like seeing those pearly gates.
"Better fly, little bird," Ron said with a grin as he leveled the rifle at your head.
Oh, the thrill in his veins as he shot at the tree beside your head and heard your scream. Finally a scream, and oh what a delicious sound it was. The way your hands flew to cover your head as you ducked down? If he hadn't been so eager to play with you first, he would've killed you on the spot. But he wanted the thrill of the hunt, to see the fear seep into your very bones. Without any intention to fire, he lifted the gun and aimed it at you once more.
You locked eyes with him for only a second before darting off in the opposite direction. Even from his position he could see the blood pooling through your shirt. The cool breeze reminded him that you must be wearing at least two layers; oh, he had gotten you good.
Ron let you get a little further away before looking down the scope, his eyes following your legs. Thank God for the hair trigger as it took only the smallest bit of pressure before the shot echoed through the trees once again. Sadistic satisfaction reflected on his face as you tumbled forward, rolling across the ground clutching your right knee.
Leaves and twigs crunched underneath his boots as he stalked closer and closer. Even from this distance he could hear your pathetic whimpers in a humiliating display. He took his time loading the next round, giving you the chance to stand up.
It took another bullet into the ground beside you - he heard the groan you let out when it grazed your hip - before you pushed yourself to your feet. The half-run, half-skip you had to do was satisfying to watch. It led to a significantly slower pace, perfect for him to walk after you and still make ground.
A laugh fell from his lips as he fired and you screamed again, throwing yourself behind a tree. He knew which tree, he could see the blood on the ground where you had just been standing. If he listened carefully, he could hear your gasps from his current position.
“Little broken thing,” he said with a shake of his head. Steady fingers loaded a newly filled cartridge into the chamber. “Can’t you run better than that?”
“Can’t you shoot better than that?” You called out from behind the tree.
Ah, he thought with a smile as he lifted the rifle again. You're a Fiesta one. A single pull of the trigger and the bullet dug into the tree, sending bark flying in all directions. All it would take was one well placed shot to scare you out of your hiding spot. He had three more rounds to use as he please, it was an easy choice. Luckily it only took one more shot before you took off, finally jumping into the air.
Oh how beautiful those wings would look mounted in his trophy room. As he looked down the scope, it almost seemed a pity to clip them. They were far too stunning to damage. But hey, he had mounted damaged trophies before, what was one more?
Through the scope, Ron could see the bone at the base of your wing break under the impact, blood and feathers spewing from the wound. He didn't bother stopping his laughter as you plummeted to the ground a few hundred feet away, crashing through the tree limbs until hitting the earth.
He couldn't see you, but he could hear you. Could hear the gasping and the whimpers, the wet sounds coming from every breath you took. As much as he enjoyed the hunt, he was ready to take your corpse back home. It was a trip to celebrate.
His feet walked over the blood splatters littering the leaves on the ground until they disappeared. There was one large pool of blood to his left, but you were nowhere to be found. He looked around, eyes trailing over every possible place you could be before landing on a hollow log.
There was no way he could get in it to check, and even if he could it was far too dark. The noises of the forest were picking up as the day turned into afternoon. Cicadas screaming their song, birds chirping about the beautiful day, wind whistling through the trees. Yet, he couldn't hear your gasps.
A part of him suspected you were hiding in the hollow log. All Outcasts were cowards, it wouldn't surprise him if you were hiding like one. But his instincts told him no, it wasn't possible. The blood spots disappeared, and with all your injuries there was no way you would be able to hide it. But just to be sure…
He held the rifle to the log and pulled the trigger for the last time. Bark flew, a few pieces leaving stinging scratches on his arm; a welcome pain when it accompanied a win. Waiting for a moment for any noise that would indicate you were there. But it was silent. Only the call of the forest gave him comfort in his assumption.
"I'll find your corpse tomorrow," Ron said into the open air. "Don't fly too far, ya hear?"
Silence was his only answer.
—---
The apartment was eerily quiet as the setting sun filtered through the blackout curtains. La Llorona fell from the gramophone like a whisper, just loud enough to be heard but soft enough to caress the nerves, creating a calming sensation. It bounced off the ancient brick wall to fill every inch of the space and completely enveloped Wednesday into something akin to a trance.
A steaming cup of tea rested beside the typewriter as she hammered away at the keys. The words jumped off the page not from her genius, but from sheer frustration. They didn’t flow, they didn’t connect, and more than once she found herself typing out her internal anger towards you. Though, she supposed it was no longer internal once they were inked into the paper.
She should have rejoiced in your absence; it created the perfect atmosphere for her to write and relax. But of course you had to ruin that as well by not making noise or going about your own business in the shared space. Who would have ever thought that her exceedingly specific writing environment now included your presence?
But she would be damned if she just let you back in after that ridiculous display of yours. You had the nerve to argue with her when all she was trying to do was keep you from getting yourself killed? Did you not remember the last time you had gone out for a stroll in the woods? The scars on your side should have been enough of a reminder for you.
“You’re not going,” Wednesday said once you hung up the call with Eugene. He seemed to call you often nowadays.
“Come on, he’s got the flu and just wants some bugs to cheer him up,” you said with a cheery smile.
“Have you forgotten what happened the last time you went bug hunting for Eugene?” She asked. You blinked rapidly as your smile slowly fell.
“It’s barely mid-morning, Wends,” you said with a hesitant chuckle. “The sun is up and the full moon isn’t for another 10 days.”
“And yet you always seem to find another way to get hurt.”
She could see the muscles in your jaw tense up as you crossed your arms over your chest. The way you cocked your hip was indicative of your mood, if Wednesday couldn’t already tell from the look you were giving her. All the air in the apartment thickened as she held your gaze, nearly suffocating her under your scrutiny.
It was a small price to pay if it meant you would stay home where it was safe.
“You never think things through,” Wednesday said, “and it gets you hurt.”
“No one ever said you had to be my keeper,” you said through clenched teeth. “I rather remember you choosing that on your own.”
"Clearly you need one." She was getting dangerously close to setting you off; it was evident in the way you stood taller, your slightly ruffled wings folding closer to your body. "But I have more important matters to attend to without adding your lack of common sense to the plate."
"Well it's a good thing I didn't ask you to accompany me then, isn't it?" You snapped. There it was, the line she had crossed; it was far closer than she had thought.
"I won't be the one cleaning your wounds when you get back," Wednesday said with a note of finality. She turned away from you to look out the window in a simple effort not to meet your eyes.
"Don't worry, Addams," your venomous emphasis on her name stung like salt in an open wound, "you won't be my first call." Your voice was accompanied by the jingling of keys. "I'd hate to impede on your more important matters."
The door slammed shut.
Wednesday flinched when the phone in the kitchen started ringing. The slightest smile slipped past her defenses at the stupid ringtone you had set. The Addams Family theme song, you had said with a ridiculous half smile that vanished the moment she had slapped the back of your head. Only in the privacy of her own mind would she admit she almost enjoyed it.
She cringed at the squeak of the chair on the hardwood floor as she pushed it back. You had promised to fix it not so long ago. But there was still time, there was no hurry. Her footsteps were accompanied by their own squeaks, following her into the kitchen until she picked up the phone.
"Addams residence," she said simply. If you were there, you would've teased her for it.
"Hey Wednesday?" Of course it was Eugene. "Have you heard from Y/N lately?"
"No," she said simply, "not since she left this morning."
"Do you know where she is?" He asked. "She's not answering my calls anymore."
"Perhaps her phone died," Wednesday said in an effort to calm herself more than Eugene. "She never remembers to charge it."
"Normally I would agree, but our call was cut off," he said with a sigh. "She was showing me a bug when I heard something loud and the call cut out."
Oh. Oh, that was something. That was certainly something to concern herself over.
"I haven't been able to get a hold of her since then," Eugene finished, but Wednesday's head was already swimming.
"I'll find her," Wednesday said in a detached voice, "thank you for telling me, Eugene."
She didn't give him the chance to reply before hanging up the call and immediately pulling up the tracking app that Enid had so kindly installed all those years ago. The tracker was in that worn leather bracelet, so as long as that was still intact, she could find you.
Please be intact, she thought as the app continued to load. Her breath was caught in her throat as she waited, waited, waited until finally your location popped up. There, she thought as she zoomed in, still in the woods.
She sent a quick text to Enid before she was out the door, her feet carrying her down the stairs faster than ever. The one good thing about this little town was the proximity to the woods. It was only a few minutes away by foot, and usually made for a lovely picnic location. But now, with the sun setting and the temperature dropping, it looked intimidating. You were in there, possibly dying, and she froze.
No, Wednesday thought, an Addams doesn’t freeze. With a deep breath in, she stalked forward into the woods with a clear goal in mind. Her eyes stayed locked to the painfully bright screen of the phone, watching as your location got closer and closer. You’re too far from home, she thought when she realised the lights of the nearby town had stopped flickering through the trees.
Her jog stumbled into a stop once she reached the area you were in. She turned in circles looking for you, for any sign that you were there. Trees all around, sticks and leaves covered the ground, there were a few stumps, a fallen log. Nothing to indicate you were in the area.
“Y/N!” Wednesday shouted when, after five minutes, she still found no sign of you.
The crickets started up after her call, eliminating any chance she would have of hearing your answer. Your bracelet was here, it was right here, so where were you? Why weren’t you answering her? Every possibility ran through her mind as she spun around again, desperately waiting for a sign. Anything.
Then she heard it. Over the crickets and the wind and the sound of her own feet, she heard it. A deafening wet gasp that rang in her ears. It was a noise that stopped her heart in her chest and dunked every nerve in her body in ice water. Within an instant she was kneeled beside the hollow log and peering in.
And within that same instant, she felt the pooled blood on the ground soaking into her pants.
You were missing a shoe. That was the only sensible thought running through her mind as she tried to work your body out of the log. Blood stained her hands as she pulled you out, but she couldn’t stop looking at your bare foot. When had you lost your shoe? She blinked as she pushed your wings down so they wouldn’t get caught against the bark. Would you be so terribly upset at having lost it? She blinked again as your shoulders appeared and she could sit you against the tree stump.
There was no way she would be able to get all the blood out of your jacket, she thought as she pressed her hands against the gaping hole below your sternum. Fresh blood pooled around her fingers; deliciously warm against the cool fall air. With the hole closed, your breathing sounded a bit more complete, less like you were breathing through a wet cloth.
“Wednesday?”
Oh, Enid. She arrived just in time, it was time for you to go home. It was time for her to get you home and patch up your wounds because surely these weren’t too bad. You were resilient, this wouldn’t set you back. A few bandages, a few days of rest and you would be back on your feet in no time.
“We need to get her home,” Wednesday said when she felt a hand rest lightly on her shoulder. “She needs some rest.”
“Okay,” Enid said softly. “Okay, I’ll carry her.”
She blinked rapidly as Enid finally came into view, sliding her arms underneath you until she could lift you up. Oh, she thought, my hands are shaking. In the dark, she couldn’t see the blood staining her skin. She just stood up and turned to Enid. You’re resting, she thought when you still hadn’t moved. Just resting.
“Knew it was a great night.”
Wednesday’s head shot up at the voice; it was no one she knew. A silhouette in the dark; a tall silhouette with a gun pointed right at them. The sun might have set, but Wednesday knew a gun when she saw one. And this one was aimed with a precision that would have terrified most.
“Came out for one, go home with three,” the man continued. She couldn’t see it, but she could hear the smile. “Say goodnight, little girl.”
She expected to hear the echo of a rifle, see the flash of the muzzle, feel the sting of a bullet tearing through skin. Instead she saw electricity, heard the man scream before falling to the ground. Her eyes stayed on him just long enough to ensure he wasn’t getting back up before looking at her saviour.
“Yoko?” She asked.
“Why is it always you three?” Yoko asked. “This is exactly why I chipped all of you.”
“Call Bianca,” Enid said; Yoko nodded and made the call. It took only a few seconds until it was done and all three girls started walking back to the apartment building.
But when Wednesday passed the man on the ground, she stopped. He had mentioned coming out here for you. The hunting rifle was cocked and ready to fire, and the bullets looked big enough to cause the hole in your chest. He had come back out for you. Why had he smiled when talking? He had come out here for you.
“Wait,” Wednesday said. The footsteps stopped. “Bring him too.”
There was only the slightest pause before Yoko appeared in her view once again, bending down to toss the hunter over her shoulder. No one questioned Wednesday’s motives; they didn’t have to. Plausible deniability, they would claim. Wednesday didn’t care.
She was going to make him pay.
—---
Wednesday watched Bianca finish stitching you up with glazed over eyes; overall you had needed 57 stitches across all wounds. It was rather impressive in and of itself. Four gunshot wounds, a shattered wing, multiple lacerations. Potentially a collapsed lung, Bianca had warned.
“We’ll watch for infection,” Bianca had said as she cleaned her hands, “and we can take her to an Outcast doctor in the morning.”
In the morning. That was nine hours away; plenty of time for Wednesday to have her fun. Only when she had finished making sure you were comfortable did she make her way down to the basement. None of the gang even attempted to stop her; they all knew it was of no use.
The hunter’s muffled screams could be heard from the moment she opened the basement door. It sent a jolt through her veins as she walked closer. To see him tied to the chair, at her mercy this time. She hoped he felt what he had made you feel in the woods.
She pulled the cloth down from his mouth.
“Not much of a hunter,” she said. “You were taken down by a little girl.”
“I took one of ya down,” he said, “and she screamed like a lil bitch.”
Wednesday’s face never changed. Not even when the world turned red and she could just imagine the screams you had let out. Had he enjoyed it? Hearing you scream, watching you run for your life? She hoped he had, because she was about to feel the same way.
Each grunt, groan, and scream she pulled from his lips did the opposite of what she had anticipated. Instead of easing her own fear, it only increased it. She enjoyed seeing him cry, felt a thrill when she saw the blood fall from fresh cuts. It was exhilarating to see him suffer.
But as the hours dragged by, all she could think about was if this was how he felt when you were at the other end of the rifle.
All it did was increase her own anger. The flash of the taser stayed longer, his screams echoed louder, the cuts got deeper. It didn’t ease her fears, it didn’t ease her anger. Her mind kept flashing images of you, bleeding and broken and dying, and he was still alive? He could have killed you, could have taken your body and no one would have ever found you.
She buried the knife in his thigh, her eyes falling shut as he screamed again. It was a pathetic scream; high-pitched and childish. The sound was grating, and she almost wished he would just shut up. Didn’t he understand that this was not going to help him? If anything, she wanted to do worse just to shut him up.
The basement door opened behind her but she didn’t dare look. The gang knew better than to come down and show their faces. They didn’t care to know what was going on. It was probably just Enid making sure she hadn’t forgotten something down there; it had happened too many times before.
“Wends.”
Oh. Her head spun, eyes wide as she saw you leaning against the doorframe. You were in nothing but boxers and a sports bra; your blood was already soaking through the white bandages. What were you doing up? You were supposed to be in bed. Someone should have been watching you, where were they? Did they not understand you needed rest? What could have possessed you to stumble down three flights of stairs?
“It’s not worth it,” you said, so softly that it hurt Wednesday’s heart.
Her mind was reeling. Why would you care what happened to him? She didn’t know what exactly had gone on out there, but you had nearly died. For all Wednesday knew, you had died; she still couldn’t believe you hadn’t bled out in the woods. He had hunted you for sport, had played with your life, and you didn’t want her to kill him?
“Go back to bed,” was all she said. But her eyes didn’t leave your frame that was sagging further and further against the doorframe. You sighed, and Wednesday watched with bated breath until you finally breathed in again after far too long.
“Just make it quick,” you said. Your eyes shifted to look right behind her; the hunter. “You should start praying.”
You didn’t leave the basement like she had wanted you to, but as you started to sink to the floor, she finally realised that you couldn’t go upstairs on your own. Any energy you had managed to muster was gone. Damn you, she thought as she ripped the knife out of the hunter’s leg. Now I have to make it quick.
She didn’t say a word before yanking his head back and dragging the knife across his neck. With the right depth and pressure, it only took a few seconds before his gurgling screams came to a stop. His blood coated her shirt and for a moment she felt dirty. Not from the act, but from his disgusting life sticking to her clothes. She would need to burn it tomorrow.
But for now, she had something much more important to attend to.
Wednesday placed the knife back on the table and rushed to you before you could fall even further. It was one of the few times she thanked your genetics for making you lighter than you appeared. All it took was a little bit of elbow grease to get you back up the stairs and into bed.
Only once you were settled did she crawl into the bed after you, keeping her distance so as not to risk any sort of injury or agitation to your wounds. Her eyes trailed over every bruise, every bandage, every stitch, every bump and scratch. You had been alone out there for hours, bleeding out and dying while she was home, getting increasingly angry with you for something that was so meaningless in the grand scheme of things.
“I’m sorry,” Wednesday whispered when you took a deep, shuddering inhale. It sounded painful, and all it did was send a knife through her heart.
Tomorrow, she could clean up her mess while you were being tended to at the hospital. But for now, in this moment, she was going to watch over you the way she should have earlier. To watch your every breath, to make sure you weren’t hurting. It was all she wanted. She could scold you for being so foolish another day. Right now, she was just thankful you were still alive. She didn’t think she would survive if anything happened to you.
Maybe she would bring out the ring sitting at the back of the closet once you were healed. Surely you would be less reckless then.

Hi! Just read this fic (https://archiveofourown.org/works/33748141) and the post that inspired it (https://ladycrimsonandblack.tumblr.com/post/658164849325604866/brawltogethernow-brawltogethernow-tama-gives), and was wondering if you knew any other fics where Luffy is a Fae or a Changeling or just not really human? Thanks!
Hello ! Sorry this took us a while, as it seems there are very few fics that fall under that category, but here's what we've got for you:
The closest that comes to mind is :
Wild Wind At Dressrosa by khepiari (M)
[Mod notes: I am personally recommending this one as it is set in a world of magical realism. Luffy is not explicitly a magical creature, but there is certainly a certain magic and mystery surrounding him, which gives this story a whole air of surrealness and fairy tales.]
Doflamingo has troubles- to govern Dressrosa, collect taxes for the King, a womanizing Secretary, a stupid Brother, an angry Wife and a Rebelling Son who is romancing the Biggest Troublemaker- a Wayfaring Godless Curio-Shopkeeper, who is storming the calm streets of Dressrosa. Law's heart is hell-bent to unite with the Wild Wind called Monkey D Luffy- a tale of food, books, friendship and love.
The Moonwitch And His Dumb Werewolf (also) by khepiari (T)
A.U., Fantasy. Happy Ending. Three Part. LawLu (Switch Couple) When his village gets burned down and family captured by the bounty hunters, a young werewolf pup, Luffy, finds himself in the protection of a witch boy named Law and his father Corazon. As the war ravages, the magical creatures must unite to fight their biggest enemies; humans.
Perfect Completion by quackquackcey (E)
Water sprite Luffy curiously happens upon a gathering of vampires and falls at first sight for a certain golden-eyed vampire…but will his feelings be returned?~
A Crown of Flowers by @hyperbolicreverie (M)
The Wild is a mirror, a magic realm of possibility parallel to the mundane one, and people like Luffy, changelings who've made a devil's bargain for power, walk the line between worlds daily. When Luffy makes a mad dash to rescue his brother from certain death, he sets off a chain of events that makes the very foundations of that realm shudder. Soon, he's got several other people along for the ride, and the situation quickly spirals out of control. There's something the people in power aren't saying, and it might be the key to all the strange events that keep happening around them. Luffy just wants adventure and fun and freedom. Law just wants to be left alone to live his life. Kid wants to never be beholden to someone else again. And Ace just wants some goddamn agency for once. But there are other entities in the Wild with agendas of their own, and they don't care about what others want at all.
How To Snare A Life by xairylle (E)
Accidentally ensnaring a parasitic sexual demon and being his host wasn't exactly how Law wanted to end his night or his life for that matter. LawLu/LuLaw.
A Fleeting Moment (When the Sun Can Kiss the Moon) by purplehairedwonder (T)
Once upon a time, the Sun fell in love with the Moon.
[We also recommend checking the #Sun God Luffy tag for godly Luffy material.
And finally, not Fae Luffy, but we'd like to recommend Fae Law]
To Give You My Name by cosmicatta (M)
Trafalgar Law, last of the faes, had committed a fatal mistake 15 years ago: he had given Doflamingo his full name. Now, even after having escaped, the looming threat of his ownership still follows Law everyhwere he goes. He can only try to survive as a runaway, hoping to, someday, find a way to cut the invisible string tying him to his former captor. Until he meets Luffy. He’s just a regular human. But maybe that’s all Law needs.
And, ofc, the one you recommended:
waters of the wild by ladycrimsonandblack (T)
Even to his nakama, Luffy sometimes appears just a little bit too odd. (Or: Five times a Straw Hat notices something strange about Luffy, and the one time someone knows what's going on.)
We're also happy to tell you that your ask prompted some of our writers to give Fae Luffy a shot, so expect some new fics under that tag soon enough.

Battinson Vampire Au
Bruce is a 400 old vampire, Alfred is a fae, and adopt supernatural children who need protection.
What do you think?
Ooo interesting! I usually keep it light-hearted with monster AUs, but I've been thinking that maybe vampires have a strict "No interspecies children" law. It's applied to unmarried/bonded vampires, usually.
Basically, aside from puritan bullshit ideologies and classism, vampires are regularly deemed as unfit parents due to being emotionally detached prone, always at risk of attacking a child that's not completely vampire.
You could also consider the angle that vampires aren't trustworthy because they'd use adopted/foster children as blood banks instead of getting an artificial store brand like modern vampires. We have Thomas Elliot to thank for that
The only reason Bruce, a product between a human and a vampire , came to be was because Thomas used his non-creature status and agreed to hire a supervisor (Alfred) at all times
But nonetheless, foster kids Dick, a phoenix, Jay, a werewolf, and Tim, a ghost, have Bruce as their last resort. What starts off as a visceral rivalry bred from distrust, past pain, and cautiousness blossoms in something bigger and easier

I despise both Renesmee Cullen's and Hope Mikaelson's existences. Both characters are plot holes and shouldn't exist.
Renesmee Carlie Cullen is the daughter of Bella Swan and Edward Cullen. She's half-human and half-vampire, and in Twilight, it was explained that only male vampires can have children with female humans. But that doesn't make any sense because vampires in Twilight don't have any blood in their bodies. Then, Stephanie Meyer explained that the venom that is in their bodies works similarly to the bodily fluids that are in humans. But if that was the case, then Bella shouldn't have gotten pregnant. She should have become a vampire after having sex with Edward. Renesmee is called 'half mortal and half immortal' by Aro, but how can a person be half mortal and half immortal? She's either mortal or immortal. She can't be both. Does she age, or does she not? Can she live forever, or does she have the lifespan of a human?
Now, onto Hope.
Hope Andrea Mikaelson is the daughter of Klaus Mikaelson and Hayley Marshall-Kenner. She's a werewolf, vampire, witch tribrid. In the pilot episode of The Originals, it was explained that since Klaus was born a werewolf and became a vampire because of magic and not by drinking the blood of another vampire and dying with that vampire's blood in his system, he was able to conceive. Vampires in The Vampire Diaries are infertile and can not have children, and while Klaus is the world's first werewolf-vampire hybrid, he's still part vampire. He shouldn't have been able to have a child, which was confirmed in Legacies. The only reason Hope exists is because Malivore. So, if Malivore never existed, Hope would have never existed. She wasn't born because her father was created differently from traditional vampires, but because it is her destiny to defeat a mud monster.
Both characters are great (more so Hope because she was given her own show, and I grew to like her over Legacies' 4 season run. Renesmee was kinda there. Her CGI in the movies creeped me out, and she absolutely did nothing in the book), but their existence goes against the canons of their respective movies/books and show.
It's funny because both are created as plot devices to Bella and Klaus and they're meant to be the magical powerful baby of their universe, but their existence alone just makes it look ridiculous by breaking every single canon law.
As you said, Renaissance came out of nowhere. She was soo incredibly intelligent from the very first moment her parents made her, but apparently not smart enough to control her own strength seeing she broke several Bella's bones (like honestly, what the hell) and this demon spawn craved human blood for absolutely no logical reason other than Edward being a vampire. Ratatouille also could not be seen in the ultrasound or any other thing: she had a impenetrable amniotic sac because yes, exactly, her daddy is a vampire!
Honestly, I kinda feel bad for Ravioli. I've never finished reading Breaking Dawn (and I won't), it was such a corny book and I could only bring myself to the third part, where Bella spends time with baby Rasputin but I've heard interesting things to how the Cullen rise this sim. Apparently, Bella and Edward couldn't care less about their daughter, because as always they were more obssesed with each other and Rosalie did all the parenting, because the love birds couldn't be distracted with their CGI spawn. If I'm correct, Edward even called Bella more beautiful than Rim Job right in her face and instead of being mad, because their kid was right there, Isabella was just like "gosh edward, ily sm 😘😜😍"
Parents of the year.
Stephenie Meyer didn't care about Bella and Edward being parents: she just wanted the aesthetic that came with it, and she pulled the reasons of the human-vampire pregnancy out of her ass.
Actually, when I was in my twilight phase, I read a fanfic where Bella got pregnant, and the reason was a little more "coherent" than what Meyer gave: Having died so young, Edward's body "froze" his sperm and because he had remained a virgin for over a hundred years (lmao), he was able to get Bella, the first and only woman he slept with, pregnant. It's still shitty, and bad, but if they wanted them so badly to have a kid this was a better reason.
I just can't take Twilight books seriously. Apparently, there are no black vampires for a barely explained reason that is clearly racist (if I remember, the venom that vampires inject you during death just... removes your skin color), the mistreatment to the werewolves is just terrible, and there's Ratatunga too.
Now, moving to Hope Andrea Mikaelson, the white witch that is hated and loved in equal measures by the fandom. Oh my, this is gonna be interesting.
I have my moments with Hope, to be honest. Sometimes I completely adore her, and sometimes I just can't stand her. Her existence was completely pulled out of Pl*c's ass, who wanted to have her own version of Renameme so badly. Klaus shouldn't have even been able to procreate in the first place, because he was killed before Esther binded his werewolf side. Though vampires in tvd are more alive than dead, but that's a whole different thing. But clearly my point still remains.
I like Hope Mikaelson a lot more than Ragnarok Cullen, Summer Fontana/Danielle Russell and Mackenzie Foy are all really amazing and beautiful actresses who did great with the role they were given, but their characters completely broke canon. I like the tribrid more though because at least, she wasn't a fucking sim that aged five years in a week unlike Nestlé. The only way I could ever like Radioactive is by having her completely loathe her parents and family, especially because she was born in 2006 aka she's part of Gen Z.
Both characters shouldn't even exist in the first place, and Hope's existences is as much of a plothole as Riptide's. Renesmee gets more hate simply because of how she was in the womb and also because of how fast she grew, but they're both plotholes and shouldn't have been created no matter their popularity.

Naya Grant has a rare day off, so she decides to take her family to one of the local beaches. Granted, they literally live on the water but it’s more private. This is public, more chance for Apollo to hang out with his fellow merfolk and perhaps a chance for AJ to hang out with some other kids. Sometimes she worries about him not having enough interaction with other kids his age. They’ve started giving Lily three days off a week so AJ can experience daycare with other children. Not being able to have another baby still hurts Naya at times, though her and Apollo haven’t stopped trying.
Tumblr media
AJ is a happy little duckling in the water, just like the duck he insists chewing on after he splashes it in the water a few times.
Hours of fun later and some grilled out hamburgers, thanks to Lily, AJ is busy building a sand castle – Lily has pulled her employers aside. She knows it’s time to tell Mr. and Mrs. Grant about her true nature and who she’s related to. Thankfully, Caleb, his wife and Lilith had left it up to her to tell them. They may fire her, she knows this. She will miss AJ if that’s the case. She’s grown very fond of the little boy.
Tumblr media
Lily has tried to figure out how to tell them since her visit from Lilith but still isn’t sure what to say. She knows they’re no stranger to the supernatural. Apollo’s family has merfolk spanning back generations and his brother-in-law is a vampire, who also happens to be her cousin.
Naya and Apollo for their part of worried Lily is going to quit, she does an awesome job taking care of AJ and makes amazing food. They’ve felt spoiled.
“I’m sure you’ve noticed the scars on my chest.”Lily starts, she rarely wears anything that reveals them. They both nod, curiously. “I’m a werewolf. I got those in a fight years ago.”
Apollo slow blinks while Naya just stares at Lily. They’re both processing the words out of her mouth. “That’s why AJ kept saying Wily every time I’d show him a picture of a wolf on his flashcards…” Apollo comments, mostly to himself. The pieces were coming together.
“And why he calls you woof woof.” Naya supplies, slowly catching up to her husband’s train of thought.
AJ had toddled in on Lily in her werewolf form one day and figured it out, even at his young age. “He’s a smart boy.”
Both of AJ’s parents nod in unison with smiles on their faces. Lily takes a breath, they seemed to be handling it okay but she wasn’t done.
“Just like merfolk, werewolves age more slowly…but even slower than your kind, Apollo. I was actually born in the 1800’s.” Lily pauses, letting that sink into their minds for a few moments.
Tumblr media
“Wow! So you got to see the rise of all the greats in the fashion industry!” Naya exclaims. Fashion is her job after all.
Lily wasn’t expecting that comment but nods. “And some of their falls too.”
“Wait….that means you’ve been around as long as Caleb and Lilith..” Apollo comments, thinking out loud. He squints at the older female next to him.
The werewolf nods her head. “I’m their cousin. Their mother was my Aunt.”
There’s complete silence outside of the waves splashing to shore against the sand beside them.
Tumblr media
Apollo slowly smiles “This really is a small world. You gotta meet my sister! She’s about ready to pop but you should meet her. Family is extremely important to merfolk and it looks like you’re part of it.”
“Does Vera know about all of this?” Naya questions, glancing over at her son who is still happily building a sand castle, oblivious to all the adult stuff going on around him.
“I’m sure Caleb told her, those two rarely keep things from each other. Caleb was here not too long ago so you two have seen each other, right?” Apollo asks Lily, who nods at him.
“I’ll set a meeting up.”

I had a dream about a book which began as a fairly boring YA story about a group of teens going to a two week program (experience? Interview? Contest?) at a prestigious, small private college where one person at the end of the two weeks would be awarded a full scholarship based on unclear criteria. There was a kinda quiet, intense, withdrawn kid who the book started with, with frequent asides to other teens here and also references to an undetected asteroid on a collision course with Earth. The kid was trying to win to please “her father” who wanted her here, and also had a crush on this baby butch but other than that we didn’t get much.
The first twist happened almost immediately in like the third cutaway to one of the other teens where it was revealed this popular girl was secretly a werewolf and prepping for the full moon set to happen near the end of the two weeks. The obvious twist was, oh, this is a supernatural teen drama okay. Wonder what’s gonna happen with the asteroid. But I know werewolves. Bet there’s a vampire too.
Then the next aside upped the ante with a quiet boy on campus being revealed to be, as far as he knew, utterly unable to be even slightly hurt. Cannot be killed. Could be functionally immortal. He didn’t know and he also, unlike the werewolf girl, has no idea how this had happened to him. Weirder and strange but still YA fantasy right?
And then the next chapter after that, about 20 percent in, had the main girls dad contact her, tell her that he had put a body guard their undercover, that “an enemy operative” was there and it was her responsibility to find them. She jumped to the conclusion it was the butch, used a “simple paraphysical construct” to cast fireball on the butch’s door. The butch then admitted that yea, she had come from the secret magitech space empire personally ruled by the intense girl’s dad, yes, she did kinda hate him and his secret police shit, like her, yes she had violated the law that said that Earth and other reservation worlds could not be contacted, but no she was not the enemy here on campus who, in less than two weeks, was going to try to wipe out life on Earth.
And I have no idea how it ends, but I kinda wanna find out.

Their Ending
Pairings: Elijah Mikaelson x GN! Reader, Klaus Mikaelson x GN! Reader x Hope Mikaelson (Platonic)
Warnings: Asshole Elijah, Major Character Death
Tumblr media
"Where are you going Niklaus?"
"I'm going to get my daughter!"
****
Klaus walked into the safe house that Hope was in and found her giggling with Y/N playing with her. As the door opened, you raised a hand in warning before lowering it at the sight of Klaus.
"Dahlia is dead then." You stated as they moved away and allowed Klaus to pick Hope up.
"Yes, Y/N/N." As Klaus spoke, you began to flicker. "What's wrong?"
"I...I'll explain. Come to the compound." With this, you faded away, leaving Klaus stunned. With vampire speed, Klaus stood outside the compound before being led towards the back of the house. After 10 minutes of walking, Klaus hit a forcefield. "Place your hand on the forcefield, Nik. Yours and Hope's."
Klaus did as he was told, holding his and Hope's hand against the forcefield, which then dissolved before them. The father-daughter duo walked inside and were met by a still figure laying on the couch, grey veins running up their neck.
"Y/N! What happened?!" Klaus exclaimed as he looked at the figure.
"Bond rot. I'm dying because of bond rot." You stated, sadly smiling at their brother-in-law.
"What?"
"A 1000- year bond, broken then healed. Then a 500-year bond, broken almost completely."
"That's why you're in pain? But Elijah..."
"500 years ago, when Elijah met Katerina... I could feel him falling in love with her. So I closed the bond. He can't feel me anymore."
"...But you can still feel him, can't you?" Klaus finished, tears in his eyes.
"Yes. I could feel him falling for Katarina, Celeste and now Hayley."
"How did you know..."
"...if I left 200 years ago, when he started to see Celeste?" Klaus nodded in response. "I left and 2 years later, I fell in love with a werewolf. We got married after 4 years of courting and had kids."
"Kids?"
"4, to be exact. Henry, Alexandra and twins Jace and Amelia. They then got married, had their own kids. Their kids had kids, one of which was a woman called Mary. Mary got married and kids and grandkids. One of my great-great-great-great-great grandkids is called Jackson. Jackson Kenner."
"No..."
"Yeah. I married Thomas Kenner and we were happy." You smiled sadly again.
"But I don't understand? How are you dying?"
"When Esther came back the first time, during the ball, she told me I had 2-3 years left to live if the bond continued the way it did."
"But it's not been 3 years yet." Klaus whines, holding both Hope and you in his arms.
"But the bond is breaking."
"When?"
"I'll be dead by dawn."
"One last pic?"
"Put the flash on." Klaus takes Ford's phone of the coffee table and takes a picture of himself, Hope and you. The trio then spend the rest of the night together before the sun rose the next morning.
"Y/N? Y/N!"
"Thank you."
****
Elsewhere, Elijah Mikaelson screamed in agony and begun clawing at his chest. He could feel every single, agonising feeling that you had felt in the last 500 years. As he clawed at his chest, with Freya and Rebekah attempting to stop him, a wolf howled at the death of one of his long-lasting family members.

Family
Summary: Esme Cullen/ftm!Reader; where reader is a wolf shifter (like jacob) and Bella takes him to meet the Cullens
You were dreading having to pick out a college to go to; while your mother had been happy for you to stay with her; you were growing increasingly annoyed with how everyone in arizona was treating you; how everyone seemed to know you as Rennee’s oldest daughter; all grown up. You grimace; that wasn’t you anymore.
You’d transitioned in high school and pretty much everyone seemed to understand you were transgender but they wouldn’t bother using any of pronouns you were using. Which meant you were trying to avoid being anywhere close to home when you went to college.
Bella had said everything would be fine if you moved in with her and your dad. You hadn’t told them what had been going on and you figured having been at college for the past few years meant that neither of them really knew you.
You hadn’t expected to have become a werewolf shifter; but apparently there was an affinity for the supernatural in your family's genes if when Bella greets you her eyes being bright orange mean anything.
“So uh; that looks new..” You gesture to her eyes and she nods
“It’s a long story..”
“Oh; uh okay so you like died?? And had a kid??? I’m an uncle???”
“Yeah I know it’s a lot to take in but at least I mean your life has been; normal. Right? Please say it has..” Bella laughs a little and you pull over the hot chocolate your dad had made.
“Yes; but the Cullens; my husband's family; they’re nice.”
“Nice? Considering they’re vampires; yeah that makes sense… Sorry it’s just a little much to take in right now.”
Bella lets you cool off for a few days. It feels both far too long nad not long enough because she’s already talking about having a dinner so you can meet your brother in law, niece and then all of his family; even if none of the others are actually related.
She explains that there’s no way for you to be turned; unless you’d be willing to fake your death in a few years and then watch as your mom and dad passed before your eyes. You wonder if Bella regrets it; or if she’s so happy with her new life she’d leave her family; including you behind.
You don’t dwell too long on it; you’re not given the option as she drags you into the forest excitedly describing all of the Cullens and their various powers and pretty much there entire background and life stories. You try not to comment that she could fill at least four books with what she’s told you. You know she chatters when she gets nervous; and you wonder just how big of a deal it is that you get to meet her new family; and be part of her new life something even your dad didn’t get.
When you meet the Cullen’s you understand why. Esme Cullen is beautiful; and she won’t stop staring at you and smiling.
“Carlisle and I are very happy; but we could be; happier..” She seems upset by something nad you wonder if Bella left out her ability to hypnotize when she was talking about her.
“Can I help?” You find yourself asking and she nods; you know you blush; you wonder if she can hear your heartbeat.
You knew that Esme didn’t know you were trans; or at least you assumed she knew; but for her to invite you to stay over; when Bella and Edward were going somewhere else; made you flush; and think that she had to know something. The way she’s smiling is making you blush and the nerves in your stomach flip over.

Sims Say the Darnest Things: When you get this, list five of your characters and their best quotes so far. Then pass it on to five other storytelling simblrs.
Thank you my dear @nocturnalazure for this question, it was so much fun to answer! 🥰
FROM MY THE CHO BROTHERS GAMEPLAY
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Terence: Mhm, and do you want me to get rid of her the old-fashioned way, or Terry the Terrible’s way? Dale: Whatever you think is best, just please, please, don’t let it involve bloodshed, okay? Terence: Doesn’t sound like fun to me, but okay, we’ll do it your way.
.....
Terence: Now I need some information about the victim… oops, sorry, I mean, about the girl. You know, name, waist, breast and hip sizes? Dale: Terry, come on… Terence: Easy, bro, I’m just kidding. Why do you have to be so damn serious about everything?
(The Cho Brothers, December 07, 2021)
-----
Tumblr media
Kelly: So - we finally see each other. Riley: Unfortunately, yes. Kelly: Yeah, I hate to see you too, but there's something I have to tell you. Riley: You have something to tell me? What would that be? Kelly: It's two things, actually. The first, I'm glad you're leaving this dorm at last. And the second…
Tumblr media
Kelly: Don't you DARE come near MY boyfriend again, YOU HEAR ME?
(The Cho Brothers, September 26, 2022).
----
Tumblr media
Dale: Can we stop talking about Terry and focus on business? Kelly: Do you even talk about anything else?
Tumblr media
Dale: Sure, I talk about bars, and sex too. Kelly: Sex, of course. How could I forget? That’s what the Cho brothers are all about, sex and money, in that order.
(The Cho Brothers, November 24, 2021 post).

FROM MY TIME TRAVELER STORY:

Julliette: So, I'll tell you only this: whatever is going on with your DNA, whatever you are, I don't care. I'll still love you whether you're a vampire, a werewolf or whatever." Robin: "A werewolf? Come on Jul," he grinned. Juliette blushed. Juliette: "It may sound silly, but love you and I'll never leave you, no matter what kind your DNA is." Robin: "I love you too, dear. And it's not silly at all, in fact it's lovely, and a relief to hear that from you".

Juliette: "I - wouldn't mind if you were an alien either". Robin: "Really? Most people are terrified of aliens." Juliette: "Not me. And I'd still love you if you were one". Robin: "Hm. that's… good to know."

Dustin: Of course, I’m not saying that Oasis Landing is the only place with nonsense laws, I just thought that in the future humans would be more like… free. Robin: Oh, we are, but in the book of the Council two children are more than one man can handle. And if you have them by the forbidden method, the infraction is double.” Dustin: Forbidden method, that blows my mind, I mean, I know Oasis Landing families who certainly didn’t ‘engineered’ their children. My parents, for instance, and Judith’s.” Robin: Because they’re privileged citizens. If you’ve worked for the Council like Mr. Planeson, your family enjoys a lot of benefits other people can’t even dream of having.”

Dustin: So, in the future everything pretty much remains the same: the rich and powerful have all the good stuff and the common people stay poor as ever”.

Ok those where more than five characters, lol.
I could go on and on, but I hope these quotes will do. I mean, my sims aren't too philosophical as to quote them, but I hope the things they say are at least entertaining. 😉

-----------------------------------------------------
No hunters got in their way to city hall. Rae had a feeling that Sam had eliminated a lot of them back at the high school, which she tried to avoid thinking about.
They entered the arcane building in the center of town and hurried across the tiled floor towards Kelly and Karen’s voices that were coming from the mayor’s office. Like they had done earlier in the day, they slipped inside the room, trying not to interrupt anything.
“All of the missing people are connected,” Karen tried to slowly explain to the mayor, who was looking at her with furrowed brows. “There was a creature in the woods that was taking people who came near it, which is what happened to Danny. But that shouldn’t be a problem anymore.”
“What do you mean by ‘creature’?” The mayor stared Karen down. Karen paused to think over what to say before speaking.
“It was unlike anything I’ve ever seen before. But I can assure you it wasn’t a vampire or a werewolf. This was something else entirely.”
“I’ve discussed the matter at hand with my pack and none of them have ever heard of the thing that we found in those woods,” Kelly added. “It was some kind of lost spirit, trapped in a beastly prison, like a walking corpse.”
“A zombie?” the mayor asked.
“Worse than that,” Danny shook his head. The mayor examined Danny.
“And you’re feeling okay?”
“A little bit shaken up, but I promise you the vampires and werewolves had absolutely nothing to do with my disappearance. In fact, they were the ones who found me. They don’t deserve to be rounded up and harmed by the hunters, Mr. Mayor.”
“We’re begging you,” a woman next to Kelly spoke firmly. The mayor seemed to mull it over.
“I am glad that you’re okay,” he told Danny. “The thing that I’m hung up on is, well, I already made an agreement with the hunters. In a sense, what’s done is done. There’s not a whole lot that I can do to call things off, I mean, I’m no miracle worker here!”
The mayor’s laughs were met with icy silence from the nest and pack leaders. Kelly and Karen were searching each other’s faces, trying to figure out what they could possibly do as a last resort, when Danny stepped closer to the mayor.
“Nope,” he shook his head, his face turning red with rage. “That’s not gonna cut it.”
“I’m sorry?” the mayor raised his eyebrow.
Danny spat an incantation at the man and, in a flash, the mayor shrunk down to a pathetic fly, buzzing around the surface of his now empty mahogany desk.
“I should have done that when we first got here,” Danny huffed. Then, he muttered another spell and shapeshifted into the mayor. Everyone in the room gawked. Danny ignored the attention and moved behind the mayor’s desk to retrieve his phone. “Hello?” Danny said into the receiver. “Yes, please get law enforcement on the phone.” He waited a few beats and stared down at the mayor, who was laying on his back in a daze, his tiny legs pointed up at the ceiling. Danny rolled a piece of paper from the desk up tight and hovered it over the mayor, ready to strike, when he snapped back upright. “Hello, yes,” he spoke in the mayor’s voice. “Call it off. All of it. We’ve got the wrong people. Send the hunters away immediately. Make sure they don’t take any Frankenmuth residents with them when they leave. Yes, I’m positive. Go. Now.”
Danny hung up the phone, spoke under his breath, and then transformed back into himself.
“Hold the fuck up,” a man next to Karen said. “This kid is a witch?”
“That would have been helpful to know earlier,” another vampire grumbled to himself. Danny studied the room and made eye contact with Sam, Jake, Josh, and Rae, who were still in the back.
“How many families are still missing?” he asked them.
“Three,” Sam was quick to reply, entirely unshaken by Danny’s heroics. Danny nodded and looked at Kelly and Karen.
“We should set up some teams to make sure that we get everyone back safe and sound,” he told them. All they could do was nod in stunned silence. “How about,” Danny thought aloud, “teams of three. Separate amongst yourselves and decide which areas of the city you want to cover.” Karen snapped back to life and took Danny’s direction, leading her nest under his instructions. While the groups started to form and leave the office, Danny joined his friends.
“You can shapeshift?” Sam greeted him. “Have you ever done that around me?” Danny had a sparkle in his eye.
“Do you remember last year when you told everyone you kept seeing William Shatner around town but no one believed you?”
“No,” Sam stared at Danny. Danny grinned back at him. “You asshole!” Sam called out, giving Danny a playful shove which unleashed giggles from them both. “Everyone thought I was crazy!”
Rae laughed along with her friends which felt unbelievably good. They were all okay. Well, almost. Josh cleared his throat which got Danny’s attention, and shot him an apologetic smile.
“Sorry to kill the fun but, uh, I could use some help with some injuries, if you don’t mind.”
“Not at all,” Danny’s voice turned serious again. He stepped closer to Josh and winced when he took in the gash in the side of his head. “Someone got you good,” he said softly. “Let me get my potion fixed up. I really gotta get a gallon of that stuff to have on hand when I’m around you guys.”
“Hopefully that’s the last of the injuries for the day,” Jake cut in. Danny seemed to notice his puffy black eye for the first time and tsked.
“You need to be patched up too. God, I should start charging you for my services.”
While Danny left to gather his supplies, Sam turned on Jake.
“You gave me so much shit over William Shatner,” he complained to his brother. “I told you he was real! I wouldn’t lie to you about shit like that.”
“It did seem like a strange way to get my attention,” Jake admitted. Rae could see a small glimmer in his eye, like hope was returning back to him.
“Hey, are you kids up to looking in the west side of town for our missing families?” Karen asked as she approached their group. “Everywhere else is covered, but we need all the help we can get to find the Robertsons, Castillos, and Holts.”
“Of course,” Rae was the first to reply. They still had more work to do even though the hunters weren’t a problem anymore. Or, at least that’s what she thought.
“I love it when you all group together,” Bri hissed from the doorway. “It’s so much easier to get you all at once.”
Every head in the room snapped to face her.
“Oh you’ve got to be kidding me,” Josh moaned.
“H-how?” Jake’s voice shook.
“The kid needs to work on his hypnosis,” Bri explained as she stepped foot into the office, studying everyone with hatred plastered across her face. “That shit wore off. Nice try though.”
“We should have killed her when we had the chance,” Josh grumbled. Jake looked like he wanted to bury himself in the ground to hide from what he had done. Bri’s gaze fell on him and her malicious smile that had sent shivers down Rae’s spine earlier returned.
“There he is,” Bri spoke. “My savior.”
“No,” Jake said to the ground.
“This boy,” Bri announced to the room, “saved my life.”
Kelly, Karen, and Danny stared at Jake in confusion. Bri continued. “His brothers wanted to drain me, to dispose of me like they did to my parents. But he spoke up and convinced them to keep me alive.”
“Oh god,” Kelly mumbled under his breath, realizing that his son had really dropped the ball. Jake looked like he was on the brink of tears.
“Jake is your name, right?” Bri asked him, taking a few steps closer to him. Jake remained unmoving, refusing to lift his eyes to meet hers. “You’re not the brightest, are you?”
“Don’t talk to my son like that!” Karen shouted at Bri. This seemed to tickle the hunter.
“Your son, huh? What are you doing with a werewolf kid? Hiding some secrets from your nest?”
“The mayor wants all hunters to leave town,” Kelly growled at her. “I think you better follow orders.”
“I don’t think the mayor would mind if a few vampires and werewolves disappeared,” Bri continued to smile. “He would understand my situation here. I mean, it’s not every day you come across a fucked up family of hybrids with the biggest chicken of a kid I’ve ever seen. This is low hanging fruit for me.”
Rae saw that Jake’s fists were clenched, but his head remained drooped.
“In fact,” Bri added, “I bet nothing could get this kid to kill me. Nothing. Even if I threatened the lives of his brothers.”
The temperature in the room seemed to drop ten degrees as everyone watched Bri retrieve a stake from behind her back. She looked between Sam and Josh with a twinkle in her eye and let out a chuckle, focusing her gaze on Sam, who was frozen in place. Rae’s head flashed with pain and she saw a glimpse of Bri throwing the stake directly into Sam’s chest. The throbbing in her head subsided, and Rae saw that Bri was starting to wind her arm back to release the stake.
Without thinking, Rae threw herself in front of Sam. To her surprise, Josh was doing the same thing, from the opposite direction. It looked like the stake was going to hit Josh instead of Sam, but Rae managed to get in front of it first, catching the wood in her hands and launching it back in Bri’s direction before she hit the floor.
Rae picked herself up slowly, making a quick note of how silent it was in the room. Everyone was staring at her with looks of shock, fear, and awe. Bri’s face was twisted in anger from her own place on the ground, where she was sitting against the wall with the stake jutting out of her chest. Rae’s stomach churned when she realized that Bri was dead.
“Well,” Josh was the first to speak. “That could have gone a lot worse.”
Rae noticed that Sam was staring her down with his head cocked to the side.
“You’re not human,” he voiced his thoughts. Rae’s head spun from all of the confusion.
“I don’t know what I am,” she whispered back.
From behind her, Jake booked it out of the room. Everyone watched him go, and Kelly let out a sad sigh.
“Karen and I need to keep an eye on the search teams,” Kelly said, looking apologetic.
“I want to pass my healing potion around,” Danny said. Sam, still looking shocked from everything that had happened, managed to nod his head.
“I’ll help,” he offered. Josh and Rae both stared out the door that Jake had just hurried through, and then shared a look. It was up to them to check on him. Danny tucked a bottle of his potion into Josh’s hand, and then they cleared out of the office, leaving the mayor behind, still buzzing around in distressed circles.
Karen, Kelly, Sam, and Danny went their separate ways, leaving Josh and Rae to find Jake. Rae scanned around the gardens in front of city hall, but to her dismay she didn’t see Jake anywhere. Then Josh elbowed her in the side.
“There he is,” he pointed down the street. Jake was sitting in front of the grocery store on a rickety old bench, staring blankly in front of him, his eyes dull. Josh motioned for them to approach him and she took his lead. “Hey, buddy,” Josh said to Jake as they reached his side. “You doing okay?”
Jake didn’t reply, or even acknowledge that they were standing next to him. Rae took a seat next to him and thought over what to say.
“What’s on your mind?” Jake’s lips tightened and he shook his head. Rae looked up at Josh and he shrugged back at her. Rae had a pretty good idea what was bothering Jake, but she also didn’t want to force it out of him. If she had learned anything about Jake, it was that he had a really hard time talking about his feelings. She felt bad prying it out of him, but she needed to know that he was okay. “What happened back there isn’t your fault,” Rae spoke with certainty. That was enough to get Jake to talk.
“No, but it definitely was. We had the opportunity to get rid of her, but I clammed up. I thought I was doing the right thing, but if she had managed to kill Sam, that would have entirely been on me. And I didn’t even do anything to protect Sam! Josh, you hardly even know the kid but you still jumped in front of that stake. I’m an awful brother, I’m a pathetic excuse of a werewolf, I’m just a huge joke.”
Rae wasn’t happy that Josh looked like he didn’t entirely disagree with what Jake had said, but he did join Jake on the other side of the bench and put his hand on his shoulder.
“There’s obviously a lot of demons from your past that you’re still trying to work out,” Josh told him. “What matters is that everyone is okay. Sam didn’t get hurt so you’ll have more opportunities down the road to prove yourself and protect him.”
“I just don’t know if I’ll be able to do it,’’ Jake grumbled, twisting his hands. “I’m such a coward.”
“You weren’t a coward when you tried to protect Morgan in the woods,” Rae reminded him. “Bri got into your head. You know deep down that you would have protected Sam, but you were thrown off guard.”
“You put too much pressure on yourself,” Josh added. “Mom and Dad didn’t do anything to protect Sam either.”
“They weren’t standing right next to him,” Jake countered.
“You know they can move fast,” Josh shot back. Jake let out a huff.
“I just don’t know what my deal is.”
“Your deal is your entire world flipped on its head today, and you’re trying to make sense of everything,” Rae answered. “I’m sure even the strongest warriors would be slowed down by even just half of what you’ve been through today.”
“I know that you’re one of the best werewolves in your pack,” Josh said. He paused and then let out a sigh. “Over the years I gave you such a hard time because I knew you were someone to fear. I wanted to make sure I had the upper hand.”
“You were really awful to me,” Jake looked at Josh. Josh gave him an apologetic smile back.
“You were pretty bad yourself,” he said. “That time when you egged my mom’s house every day for a month was brutal.”
“You shoved me into a locker in middle school,” Jake reminded Josh.
Josh shrugged. “You were being a dumbass, I couldn’t help myself.” He stopped himself. “I’m getting off track here. What I’m trying to say is I’ve been intimidated by you ever since I knew you were a werewolf.”
That information seemed to pick Jake up a little. Josh continued on.
“I know it’s gonna take a while for us to get used to the whole ‘being twins’ thing, but maybe we could work on combat and stuff to keep you in shape. We can talk more too, you know, when you’re ready, about stuff that you need to work through. I want to make sure that you’re okay.”
“I never thought I would hear something so kind from you,” Jake said with a small smile. Rae was glad to see the brothers hug each other, Jake squeezing especially hard. “Thank you both,” Jake said after letting go of Josh to give Rae a pat on the back. “For saving Sam when I couldn’t.”
“He’ll be able to protect himself soon,” Rae replied. Neither Jake nor Josh disagreed with her. Rae did feel bad, though, that her words had brought a frown back to Jake’s face.
“He’s not gonna need me anymore,” Jake realized.
“Nope,” Rae quickly shot him down. “He will always need you. I was getting paranoid about the same thing with Morgan, but we’re never going to stop being their older siblings. He’ll always look up to you and know that you’re there for him.”
That seemed to bring enough comfort to Jake that he didn’t protest. Mentioning Morgan reminded Rae that he was still back at their parent’s house, covering for her while she was out. She needed to get back to him and make sure that he was alright after their eventful day.
“I, uh,” Rae fumbled with her words, “I think I need to go home.”
“Go and check on Morgan,” Jake nodded at her. Rae was relieved that he understood where she was coming from. “I’ll be okay,” Jake added.
“Can I see you tomorrow?” Rae asked. There was more that she wanted to talk to Jake about, preferably not with Josh around. Jake was quick to nod.
“Of course.”
Rae said goodbye to the brothers, giving them the space they needed to catch up on all the years that they were kept apart, and headed home. She didn’t even bother to sneak back into the house, already accepting that she deserved whatever punishment came her way. For what it was worth, she had put her parents through a lot of emotional torment.
Her mom and dad ended up issuing a Draconian ruling, grounding her for a whole month with limited phone access and practical house arrest (outside of going to school). After getting her head bitten off for being so careless, she trudged upstairs and flopped into bed, not bothering to turn off the music Morgan was blasting from her speakers. She studied the ceiling and couldn’t help but let out a small chuckle. Nothing felt real. So much had dramatically changed over the course of just a few hours that Rae couldn’t keep track of it all.
A knock sounded at her door and Morgan let himself in before she could respond. He flopped onto the foot of her bed, causing her to bounce up, and patted her leg.
“I’m glad to see you’re in one piece,” he greeted her, genuinely looking relieved.
“I’m glad you’re happy to see me,” Rae chuckled. “Mom and Dad were less than thrilled.”
“I had them fooled for a solid hour,” Morgan shared. “I would have gotten away with it too if Dad hadn’t insisted he give you a piece of the cake he made earlier before you went to bed.”
“Fuckin Dad,” Rae shook her head in disbelief. She arranged some of the pillows by her head and then looked back at Morgan. “Are you doing okay?” she asked. Morgan thought it over.
“I mean, I guess? I’ve been thinking a lot about the frozen place the monster, or Tom, I guess, took me,” he said. “I know most of me was afraid but, it’s strange. I also kind of felt at peace out there.”
“What do you mean?” Rae asked.
“It was like I was away from everything,” Morgan gestured grandly. “It was ice and that’s it.”
“And a bloodthirsty monster,” Rae reminded him.
“Yes,” Morgan acknowledged, “but I wasn’t worried about myself. Well, outside of getting eaten alive. When Danny first found me and we were wandering around, I caught  myself smiling at one point. How crazy is that? It was like my life was back to normal, before the diagnosis.”
“I can understand that,” Rae nodded.
“I’ve really been afraid,” Morgan continued. “I’m sorry if that worries you; I’ve been trying to keep it to myself so you, Mom, and Dad don’t freak out, but it’s been getting really overwhelming. I feel like I’m starting to lose myself, like I’m turning into someone else. I don’t know what I’m going to become.”
“You’re going to stay Morgan,” Rae assured him, although her head was screaming that she was feeling the same way with her newly discovered powers. “Nothing about you, about your core, is going to change. You’ll always be my loving, goofy, younger brother.”
Morgan scooted closer to Rae and leaned against her headboard with her. Rae put her head on his shoulder and grabbed his hand.
“You’re gonna be okay,” she told him. Morgan squeezed her hand.  “No, we’re gonna be okay.”
