Old Men Should Be Allowed to Sob in Privacy
Word Count: 1,849 AO3 Link Part 1 A little less than a week after the murders at the Starlight Theater, Paul cleans out Ted's desk.
Paul didn’t think he would ever be doing this. To be fair, there were a lot of things Paul didn’t think he’d do. Skydiving, moving out of Hatchetfield, going to see any musical that happens to be playing at the Starlight. But this? This was very much not something he expected. 
On principle, he hated going into Ted’s office. Being perfectly frank, it stank. Paul didn’t know what cologne Ted used (or what smell he was trying to cover up) but the stench overwhelmed him and he got a headache just by stepping foot through the door. A chemical aftertaste settled in his mouth and stuck with him for the rest of the day. 
Even worse than the odor was the fact Ted tended to take anyone stepping foot into his office as an invitation to start a conversation. The last time Paul had taken papers to Ted in his office, Ted had trapped him in small talk for nearly an hour and a half, switching between asking invasive questions about his dates with Emma and lamenting his own troubled love life. Paul learned more about Ted and Charlotte in that time than he had ever wanted to know. After that, he had sworn off ever returning. If Ted needed something, he could get up and get it himself.
And yet, here he was, not only in Ted’s office, but going through his desk. He is sure that Ted would have choice words to say if he were here, but that’s the problem, isn’t it? 
Ted isn’t here.
The flower arrangement outside is nice. For as much as Melissa openly despised Ted, she picked a tasteful bouquet. It sits next to the office door on a side table she pulled from the break room with a picture of Ted’s work headshot. He knows she also sent out an email to the whole office to collect donations for help with the funeral arrangements, and he thinks people are actually donating to it. It is all very tasteful, and so very not Ted. Paul can practically hear him bitching about it, complaining that they didn’t use one of his thirst traps from his Tinder. The thought actually makes him choke up, so he shoves it away. 
It had taken Paul a while to enter the office. For what felt like years, he had just stood there, staring at the dead-eyed picture of Ted on the table, holding the empty box in his grasp. He was there so long, so lost in thought, that when Mr. Davidson walked up behind him, it nearly made Paul jump out of his skin. 
Mr. Davidson looked tired, worn down in a way he never does. Paul knows he normally kept a box of Red Bulls in the trunk of his car; the guy was practically synonymous with the phrase “pep in his step.” Seeing him exhausted like this makes Paul’s skin itch; it’s uncanny.
Mr. Davidson had asked about Charlotte, and Paul had said he hadn’t known where she was, like he hadn’t heard her sobbing when he’d passed the single bathrooms earlier. He had asked how Paul was doing, and if he had heard from Bill, and if he had needed anything, anything at all. It reminded Paul of that last long office conversation he’d had with Ted. Paul had wondered if Ted had actually been trying to annoy him, or if Ted had just been shooting the shit with the man he apparently considered to be his best friend. It made Paul’s head spin, and he gave Mr. Davidson single-word, emotionless answers to compensate for how his brain was reeling.
Mr. Davidson had offered to clean out Ted’s desk for him. Told Paul it isn’t his responsibility. Paul almost took him up on it, almost handed over the box so he could go and just sit with his head down on his desk for a few hours. But he remembered the look of relief on Peter’s face when Paul said he would do this, and shook his head. 
So here he is, rifling through Ted’s desk and feeling like some kind of voyeur. There aren’t too many personal items. It’s mostly files and notebooks full of snippets of code that Paul places in a stack for Mr. Davidson to sort through later. But he does find a few things. 
A little solar-powered hula dancer. A half empty bag of Twizzlers. A sticky hand Ted terrorized the office with after a trip to Pizza Pete’s last year. A mug with a picture of a unicorn that says “I’m Horny.” An orange puzzle box Paul remembers Ted cursing over when he should have been working.
A picture frame holding what Paul assumes is Peter’s most recent school photo. A candid shot of younger Ted holding a child upside down by their ankles at the beach is tucked into the corner. It is the happiest Paul thinks he’s seen Ted. Tears well in his eyes and he furiously wipes them away.
“How’s it going?” Someone asks from the doorway and Paul nearly drops the frame.
“Bill?” Bill hasn’t been back to the office, not since the... everything that went down at the Starlight. He honestly doesn’t look like he should be back now. It seems like a light breeze would knock him over. There are dark caverns under his eyes and his normally pressed shirt is rumpled. He isn’t even wearing a tie. “I feel like I should be asking you that,” Paul answers slowly. He places the frame into the box on the desk so his hands are free if he needs to catch Bill. He is not confident the man won’t drop into a dead faint at any moment. “Should you even be back?”
“I’m fine,” Bill says, obviously lying. Paul lets him. “I was going stir crazy alone at the house, figured work would give me something to focus on. But seriously, how are you doing? How’s Richie?”
Terrible, Paul thinks. He wakes up screaming most nights, and won’t calm down until he has me and Peter in his sights. Then he sobs for Ruth until he passes out. I haven’t gotten more than three hours of sleep a night since last Thursday.
Her funeral is Friday and I am not sure he is going to be able to handle it.
“He’s been struggling, but he’s a strong kid. He’ll get through.”
Bill nods and hums, but doesn’t question Paul’s lie anymore than Paul questioned his. “And Peter? Have you seen him since?”
He hasn’t left my house since that night. I mentioned going back to his apartment to him and he had a panic attack so bad we nearly had to call 911.
Paul nods. Bill hesitates. Richie had told Paul, when Peter was napping on the couch, about the confrontation outside of the Starlight, about the accusations Peter had hurled at Bill. Paul knows they aren’t true. Honestly, he is pretty sure Peter knows they aren’t true. But, considering the expression on Bill’s face, Paul isn’t sure it is something his friend has worked out for himself yet. 
“And how... how is he doing?”
Even worse than Richie, somehow. He is either fretting over what casket material Ted would prefer or staring blankly at a wall for hours while we gently try to bring him back into his body. We tried to send him to school and the school nurse called me in hysterics after it happened during class. It’s why I’m here, doing this, so that it’s one less thing he has to worry about.
Paul sighs. “He is about how you would expect. I know his girlfriend is trying to support him.”
Stephanie will sit with him and hold his hand and try not to cry as he has no reaction. I saw her on the news with her father while he talked about how the tragedy affected even his house, and the blank look on her face makes me scared to let her go home.
“It’s good the kids have a support system,” Bill says. “It sounds like you’re keeping a close eye on them.”
“Emma and I have been looking into therapists, just to give them a little more guidance. She’s been a godsend.” 
I saw the stricken look on her face when she realized it was one of her professors who had caused all of this. Her voice has been gone for days since she has had to take over as the main singer at Beanie's. She works double shifts most nights, but she still tosses and turns no matter how tired she is. She calls out for Jane in her sleep. I see the way she stares at Peter, the grief that pulses just below the surface, but she clams up when I try to help.
“Good, good,” Bill says absently. “That’s good.” His eyes have locked onto the box of Ted’s things. He swallows.
“Do you want to look through it? See if there is anything you want?” Paul asks, and Bill fervently shakes his head.
“No, I couldn’t.”
“I’m sure Peter wouldn’t mind.”
Bill chuckles wetly. “I am sure Peter already hates me enough.”
“That’s not true.”
“I killed his brother.”
Paul’s heart spasms. “Bill...”
“I didn’t even try to reach for him, after that director pulled the gun out. I just let him lie there.”
“Bill, he was shot in the head. There was nothing you could have done.”
“I went and checked on him, after... but... but there was so much blood.” Bill looks down at his hands, like he is still seeing them coated in red. “And... and his face...” Paul swallows. Ted had been shot in the back of the head, and the bullet had exited through his forehead. Peter had sobbed when the funeral home had recommended a closed casket. Paul is just happy they hadn’t given in to Peter’s demands to see him. “It... It was all my fault and I didn’t even try to save him...”
Bill’s breath hitches. Paul has never been good at dealing with crying people, but he has had a lot of practice over the last couple of days. He guides Bill to Ted’s office chair and sits him down. Bill slumps against him, and Paul places a hand on his shoulder to offer what comfort he can.
Later, Paul will go to Mr. Davidson’s office and tell him he is taking Bill home. Mr. Davidson will tell him to take the rest of the day and Paul will drive Bill home and make them both slightly burnt grilled cheeses and convince Bill to call Alice and tell her he loves her. He will drive back to his home and make sure Richie and Peter have actually eaten something and that they have started on the schoolwork that Stephanie drops off for them every evening. That night, he will collapse into Emma’s arms and finally let himself sob, because it’s not fucking fair.
But for now, he just lets Bill cry against him and tells his friend that it’s not his fault.

Holiday headcanon
I headcanon the Magnus institute gets various gift hampers from Donors and such. You really only want to open 2/3rds of them.
Elias takes the 'good' ones and leaves dodgy ones for the rest of his employees.
Never open the one sent by Annabella Cane it's just live spiders.
The ones sent by John Amherst smell terrible and are biohazards
Simon sends something good ironically: a bottle of Prosecco, fancy Italian candy, chocolates, marzipan birds, cheese and three giftcards for free skydiving Only Ned from the library used them and that was the end of Ned.
The Lukas family(Probably just Peter) sends a deluxe hamper, that is perfectly good, but Elias steals it. Tim stole a small cheese from it once and Elias gave him nightmares for a week. It's mostly sent either in lieu of Alimony or as make up gift.
Maxwell Rayner sends either just DARKNESS or like dark chocolate, black licorice with cryptic warnings.
Salesa it's a toss up some years its nice food hamper for being a good customers others, it's items he couldn't shift
Hezkiah Wakely just sends DIRT that's it.
The Distortion will snatch you if open their hamper
Opening the hamper sent by the Lightless Flame cult will trigger the lighter and well it smells like petrol, so no one is opening it.
Dekker just sends a bunch of Chick tracts in a hamper with mini bibles.
The Circus of the other sent well circus peanuts , a suspicious clown doll and tickets to Circus.
Tom Haan: well he didn't send a hamper just a bill for catering the last Magnus institute holiday party.

Warning: NSFW-ish themes (Riz and Bill’s part),
All Characters are adults, around mid-20s here. So basically a couple years after college. Except for Gouhin, Oguma, and Gosha who are their canon ages.

Louis:
Your Birthday:
- Mr. MoneyBags here is going to go all out as far as expenses go.
- Fancy Dinner at an elegant restaurant, picks you up in his ridiculous sports car which you’ve rode in a million times but it’s still exciting. (Also, Louis drives extremely fast. He’s a good driver but if he’s not going at least 30 miles over the speed limit, he feels like he might as well be parked in the street. Also has a bad habit of running red lights and stop signs just because he can.)
- Buys you a brand new outfit just to wear to dinner and has it delivered to you in the morning in a red velvet box with a silk bow. You’re a little uncomfortable with the whole high society scene but you go along with it anyway for Louis’ sake.
- At dinner, he orders for you. He has a bad habit of doing that, even though you’ve told him multiple times you’re capable of making your own decisions. At least he usually orders you something you end up liking.
- Night concludes back at his place, he pulls out another velvet box similar to one from this morning except this box is much smaller which only meant one thing: jewelry.
- “Louis... Are there diamonds in this?”
- “....”
-“Louis...”
-“.... Maybe...”
- You refuse to accept the overly expensive gift, refuse to even look at it. You give it back to him and you could see he’s a little hurt but you assure him you know he means well but everything was just a little too much and you felt out of place.
- He accepts your criticism gracefully even if he is a little frustrated you wouldn’t accept his gift he spent so much time picking out. He promises to tone it down next year.
His Birthday:
- You actually really hate Louis’ birthday because he almost never spends it with you.
- He always works on his birthday, not seeing it as important enough to halt business.
- You’ve tried everything from bribing his assistant to haggling his bodyguards but nobody can get Louis out of his office in his birthday.
- You’ve learned to let it go, and usually surprise him by doing something special the week before.
Legoshi:
Your Birthday:
- All about being sweet. Values time and effort over anything and hopes that you see it that way too.
- Makes you breakfast in bed, he’s a pretty good cook all things considering (it’s a skill he picked up while being a waiter.)
- Takes you out for lunch, the two of you spend the day doing pretty regular couple stuff but you’re just happy to be there with him.
- Your present is something that’s both useful and to your taste, like along the lines of a sweater or cardigan in your favorite color. He makes sure it’s oversized because he knows how much you love to wear his sweaters and he even has your name embroidered in small cursive letters above the heart.
- You love your gift and how the two of you spent the day.
His Birthday:
- You two spend it almost identically, just with he roles reversed.
-Legoshi is still a little uncomfortable with extra attention so if you want to incorporate his friends into anything then you’ll have to be really stealthy about it.
- No surprise parties please, he literally would melt into the floor with embarrassment. Best to take him somewhere and his friends slowly join in organically (or at least, you hoped it came off as organic but it really didn’t)
- “Hey Legoshi, fancy seeing you two here at this restaurant in this reserved section. Mind if I join ya?” By the tenth time that exact excuse was used, the cat was well out of the bag.
- Legoshi appreciates your efforts though, even if he’s not one for attention. He sort of clings to you the entire night, whether it be holding your hand, gripping your thigh, encircling your waist, etc. as long as he’s touching you, he feels calmer and it helps tone down his anxiety.
- Overall, Legoshi’s the type to be fine with almost any birthday celebration (or even none at all) as long as he can be with you.
Juno:
Your Birthday:
- Makes you do something spontaneous for once, even if you’re hesitant.
- Takes you somewhere like Skydiving, or Paragliding, or Bungee Jumping. If you’re adamant about making it to your next birthday not risking your life then she will settle for something a little more mild like Scuba Diving.
- Can not stop gushing about how hot you look in your wetsuit and flusters you in front of the Scuba instructor (he’s an older Walrus and finds it cute to see young animals in love).
- The two of you end up having a blast and you’re happy you went along with Juno’s plan, even if it tired you out completely.
- Once the two of you get home and shower, you collapse onto the bed and fall asleep almost immediately, the exhaustion from the deep diving really taking it’s toll.
- Juno enters the bedroom holding a cake with lit candles and wearing brand new sexy lingerie she purchased just for you to rip off of her. She’s a little disappointed to find you unconscious but she figures it is your birthday and you can sleep if you want to.
- She blows out the candles for you and puts the cake in the kitchen, then she throws on a robe and snuggles up next your slumbering figure.
Her Birthday:
- She wants to travel for her birthday and she can’t think of anyone she’d rather take a trip with more than you.
- You two go somewhere hot and tropical, probably somewhere near a beach (she loves any excuse to wear a bikini and sunbathe)
- You two probably find a bar near the beach and get drunk, her moreso then you because you start to sober up as the night goes on so you’re able to take care of her.
- You take her back to the hotel and tuck her in after helping her get ready for bed. She a giggling, flirty drunk mess the entire time but it still makes your heart soar because you know she had fun.
- Before she falls asleep, she whispers to you that this was her favorite birthday yet.
Riz:
Your Birthday:
- He’s waking you up with morning head, no way around it. You wake up to him kissing your neck, then your collarbone, down your stomach and he just keeps going down until he has you whimpering and falling apart beneath him.
- Then the two of you take a shower together and he’s making you cum for him in a totally different way.
- But once you finally pry his humongous paws off of you, you think you’ll be able to relax but he has other plans.
- He sends you off to the Spa. He’s not going in with you because he wouldn’t be caught dead in one but buys you the best top of the line experience . You enjoy the peace and relaxation but you’re kind of lonely and just want to be with him.
- When you get home, he presents your gift to you which is probably something big and wooden that he made himself because he’s great with his hands and actually an amazing craftsman. Probably something like a intricate Wooden Gazebo outside so you could sit and enjoy your garden.
- “Riz, how the hell did you get this back here without me knowing?” You ask, your arms still wrapped around his neck from where you squealed in excitement, lavishing him with kisses.
- “Built it off site, just needed a few hours to install it,” Riz winked, cupping your ass with both hands and lifting you up so your legs could wrap around his waist.
- “So that’s why you made me spend my birthday alone?” You pouted.
- “Yeah, m’sorry about that, baby. But I can make it up to you...” Riz growled, carrying you inside to the bedroom.
“Wait, I wasn’t done looking at my gift,” you giggled as he began nipping at the fur at the base of your neck.
“Trust me, it’s not going anywhere,”
His Birthday:
- Riz loves nature and outside in general. So for his birthday you plan a camping trip deep in the forest.
- You don’t tell him anything about it, you just make him request two days off of work, no questions asked.
- You two leave early in the morning, drive deep into the forest and then you spring it on him. You also let him know that if he doesn’t like the idea, theres still time to turn back and spend his birthday in the city.
- Not a chance if that happening though, this man LOVES the outdoors. He’s already halfway out the car before you could even put it in park.
- The two of you have a blast setting up the tent, making the campfire, cooking dinner over said campfire, and communing with nature.
- “There’s a river that runs north of here, it’s about a 15 minute walk from here, I figured we could go fishing there tomorrow morning,” You tell him as you sit in his lap, admiring the fire.
- However, the two of you don’t make it there until we’ll into the afternoon and it was a miracle you made it there at all. Riz had fucked you senseless last night, the atmosphere of nature giving him a newfound surge of energy. It’s a good thing no one was around because the two of you were almost embarrassingly loud.
- Anyways, Riz thoroughly enjoys his weekend of wilderness and fucking you like a wild animal all throughout the forest. You enjoy it as well despite the fact he has you almost limping by the end of the trip.
Bill:
Your Birthday:
- Honestly, he forgets. If you wait on him to remember or ‘surprise you’, then you’ll only end up ruining your own birthday.
- If you remind him on the day of, he takes you out to eat at a nice restaurant but it’s still very last minute.
- If you remind him the day before, he’ll at least get you a gift but it’s last minute.
- Overall, if you want to actually enjoy your birthday with him, you better plan it yourself
His Birthday:
- Plans an entire house party himself and invites everyone, it seems, but you. He wasn’t exactly aiming to exclude you, he just thought it’d be a given that you would be there. However, if you didn’t show up, he wouldn’t really notice either way.
- It’s wild and crazy. A ridiculously huge amount of people show up and there’s alcohol coming from every direction, and Bill is soaking up every ounce of the attention.
- Once you finally had enough of being ignored, you go home. You doubt that Bill will even notice you’ve left.
- You’re at home, showered, and about to head to bed when your phone starts ringing. It’s an unknown number so you let it ring out. But then they call back again, and again, and again. Disturbed, you accept it on the fourth call just in case it’s an emergency.
- “Finally they picked up! Y/N? You there?” It was one of Bill’s friends. Apparently in his drunken state, he went into a rage when he couldn’t find you and had been crying for you to come back for almost an hour. He was inconsolable and his friends knew there was only a matter of time before he started a fight at his own party. You were irritated but you still allowed them to drop him off at your place.
- The second you answered your front door, the giant tiger in question was all over you, squeezing you right and asking why you left him. You helped him inside and laid him in your bed.
- He cuddled with you for maybe 10 minutes tops before he was out like a light. You end up falling asleep next to him, finally enjoying a little peace for once tonight.
- That peace doesn’t last long though, Bill wakes up the next morning horny. Like extremely horny. You wake up to him grinding against your thighs, whimpering and begging to let him fuck you. You give in to the belated birthday boy and he proceeds to give you the sloppiest, most sensual, earth-shattering morning strokes of your life. You’re so mind blown by how good he fucked you, you forget about how angry you were with him.
- After a well needed shower, he takes you out for breakfast to apologize for how much of an ass he was on his birthday. You accept but tell him if he ever pulls something like that again, he can look for a new lover.
Collot:
Your Birthday:
- Surprisingly wants to spoil you on your birthday but unlike Riz, he actually minds being apart from you (he’s hella clingy, he just hates to admit it) so whatever activities he has planned, the two of you are doing it together.
- Takes you to a fancy resort, somewhere in the mountains where it’s cold and there’s snow on the ground even during the summer months.
- The two of you attempt skiing but you’re terrible at it and he ends up laughing at you falling majority of it.
- You two also enjoy the giant jacuzzi the lounge has to offer but Collot can not keep his hands off of you and eventually you two have to run back to your room for a midday quickie.
- His birthday gift to you is something simple, like a necklace with your birthstone in it. You love it and allow him to put it on you.
- The rest of the evening, it’s just you and your man, walking along the Snow filled grounds, sipping warm apple cider, and enjoying the break from the rest of the world.
Gouhin:
His Birthday:
- This man wants REST. No need to go all out, his life is crazy enough the other 365 days of the year. Just give him some peace and relaxation and he’s good to go.
- He also loves your cooking and wouldn’t be opposed to you cooking him a huge meal.
- Also loves your body and wouldn’t be opposed to you doing that thing that he really likes in bed ;)
- Your gift to him would be something he can use but also is a little unnecessary. Something like a ridiculously fancy, golden calligraphy pen for his office or a brand new crossbow with genuine leather straps. He’s pretty hard to shop for so it’s always best to go with something he already has, just a newer model.
- Honestly just wants to spend his birthday with his baby (you) as if it’s any other day.
Gosha:
Your Birthday:
- Gosha is so lovable, he’s probably more excited it’s your birthday than you are.
- He’s picked up quite a few skills over the years and baking is one of them. Bakes you a giant birthday cake in your favorite flavor. You’re grateful he was so thoughtful and made such an extravagant cake but there’s no way you’re going to finish this entire thing.
- You end up inviting over friends just to get rid of some of the cake, which they’re more than happy to do since it’s absolutely delicious.
- A few of your friends bring group dishes and fancy wine and soon it’s a whole party underway. The small gathering is actually a blast and you can’t think of a better way to spend your birthday other than surrounded by the people you love.
Oguma:
Your Birthday:
- Mr. Moneybags 2.0
- Gets you a crazy expensive gift like a brand new car and calls it a day.
- Not really much for spending time or celebrating traditionally. But to compensate, he’ll buy you the world (even after you’ve repeatedly told him you don’t need all that.)
- Probably won’t even see you on your birthday because his schedule is so overbooked but sends you plenty of gifts to remind you that he loves you.
- It stings not seeing him on your birthday but at this point in the relationship, you don’t really expect anything else from him.

Roger and John were billed as 'Queen' at this festival with plenty other stars such as Pink Floyd or Genesis.

“Now I must admit that I've done some crazy things in order to satisfy my passion for Queen but paying L80 and wearing a dinner suit (complete with dicky bow) to stand in a field must rank up there as one of the silliest. However to see a rare glimpse of a certain Mr. Deacon it was a sacrifice I was willing to make (as was missing the Bon Jovi concert I was originally planning to see on the same night). The concert was taking place to raise funds for the local King Edward VII Hospital and to commemorate the fire which gutted the castle in the park grounds exactly 200 years previously and featured, aswell as our own Roger T. and John D., members of Genesis, Pink Floyd and Eric Clapton. It was an event where I didn't know what to expect (questions in my mind included would Roger sing?, Would they play any Queen songs?, How involved in the show would they be? Only time would tell.). When I arrived many of the audience were already indulging in their champagne picnics. One of the first things to happen was the arrival of some skydivers (also in dinner suits) before we were allowed to approach the stage pst as the opening band the Bigtown Playboys' started. They were very impressive indeed and the singer/keyboards player was particularly talented. They played a set of about 45 minutes of R'0'B I Jive type music which certainly got the evening off on the right foot. After an interval of about 20 minutes or so there was then an appearance by Richard O'Brien (of Rocky Horror and Crystal Maze fame) to announce the winners of a competition involving beermats collected by the skydivers when they landed. Then Richard Skinner, from the event sponsors Virgin 1215, introduced a video about the hospital which was quite farcical as we couldn't see the video screen, it being located back in the picnic area! As our impatience for the show to begin grew Paul Ross, also of Virgin 1215, spent an age to introduce John and Roger as the first of the major bands to take the stage. Opening with an excellent rendition of 'A Kind Of Magic' Roger was taking lead vocals with Josh Macrae on drums. Adrian Lee was on keyboards with Jason Falloon on lead guitar. At this point I have a confession to make, I didn't even recognise poor old John at first! Maybe it was because we haven't seen him for so long or perhaps because he was wearing a cap and sporting a new long hair style. A second closer look confirmed that it was indeed that rarest of breeds the lesser spotted John Deacon on Bass. With 'Magic' completed Roger then welcomed us to 'Jurassic Park' which brought a laugh from the crowd before he added 'sorry Cowdray Park.' The next number was a first for Roger on vocals as he sang John's composition '1 Want To Break Free' and made a good job of it too. Not quite so good was the new rap like version of 'We Will Rock You', as featured at The Cross Gosport show, which followed and had Roger struggling slightly for the words. John's bass at the start of the song was quite good though. Next Roger took a back seat to join Josh on drums as Paul Young (of Sad Cafe and Mike and The Mechanics, not of tribute concert) took over the vocals for another Deacon penned number 'Another One Bites The Dust'. Unfortunately he suffered from a similar fate as Roger in the previous song of not knowing the words properly and this slightly spoilt this number.Roger was back on vocals for 'These Are The Days Of Our Lives', a regular feature of recent Cross shows and every bit as good and emotional here.
Finally after introducing all of the band to the audience they finished their mini set with 'Radio GaGa'. Only cabout a third or so of the crowd joined in the clapping (remember it wasn't really a Queen audience) which was slightly disappointing but as a finale it was a fine finish. I was also fascinated by John's bass playing technique during this number, very laid back, almost nonchalant. As the band left the stage the crowd cheered acknowledging their enjoyment of tbeir performance. Although it had only been a short set of about 25 minutes I too was content with the show. After all when I bought the ticket for all I knew Roger may just have been playing drums and John bass as part of a larger supergroup with little (if any) Queen involvement. As the band left the stage Roger remained to introduce the next band, Genesis, whom it was obvious the majority of the crowd had come to see as they got a rousing welcome. Roger then took his place behind his drums as he stayed on stage for the whole of their excellent half hour set which included amongst others (and not in order) 'Invisible Touch', 'Tonight, Tonight, Tonight' and the highlight of the show for me 'I Can't Dance'. Just as Roger had remained after his set so too did Mike Rutherford after their's as he introduced Pink Floyd and remained on bass. Roger had now left tbe stage and Floyd proceeded with a set of only 3 songs. Lasting less than 20 minutes I was somewhat surprised that their set was curtailed so swiftly and felt pleased to myself that Roger and John had not been quite so limited. Next on the agenda was Eric Clapton who was greeted with wild enthusiasm and also saw the return of Mr. Taylor on drums where he had been doing a sterling job with his normal meticulous precision. Clapton stayed for just two songs the first, 'Stone Free', was a cover of a Hendrix number and the second, 'Old Love', he dedicated to his ex-wife and was typical Clapton blues. Throughout the show three girls Aitch Andrew, Margo Buchanan and Chyna Gordon had been nobly supplying backing vocals and as a reward they were given the privilege of taking the leading role on an old motown number, 'Late Night Peculiar', which followed (Roger was still on drums and remained for the rest of the show). As all the major artists gathered on stage (with John being the curious omission) it was clear the show was drawing to its conclusion so it was not really surprising when the following song 'Gimme Some Lovin" was introduced as the last song of the evening. Paul Young was again leading the way on vocals and made a much better job of this than he had done earlier during the 'Queen' set. As the song was reaching its conclusion Phil Collins introduced all the artists (again John was absent) Of course the crowd demanded and got an encore with everyone (except John!) returning to the stage for an excellent rendition of 'Witness' again with Paul Young at the helm. The stunning finale to the show was a breathtaking firework display from within the ruins of the castle with Handel's 'Zadok The Priest' being played over the P.A. All in all it had been an excellent show (not worth L80 though - but at least a good cause benefited). The Queen element was as long and good as could be expected and the rare glimpse of John was welcomed (sorry I didn't take my camera so no photo I'm afraid) although it was a shame that he was not involved in the latter stages of the show. There may not have been any dinosaurs to be seen in the park but at least Deacy proved to us that he isn't extinct. Let's hope he was encouraged enough to join Mr. Taylor in his new project and perhaps a certain Mr. May could join them too. Now that would be a show worth L80 wouldn't it?” - Neil French

I agree with everything you said about David/Jeff situation except the last part. I don’t know how much you know about Jeff but from following him for a long time and seeing his past Jeff is very loyal to his friends, sometimes loyal to a fault, always has been so I’m not surprised at all that he’s still friends or friendly with him. David is paying all his medical bills too. Just a horrible situation all the way around.
I get where your coming from I haven’t really ever watched much of Jeff but I was (shamefully) a fan of David’s vlogs for a couple years so that’s where my knowledge of the vlog squad is coming from.
First off I feel that David, the millionaire, paying Jeff’s medical bills is the bare minimum required of him, not even as a friend but as a human being.
And while you could be right in reference to Jeff being loyal to a fault and I kind of could see that based off of his defence of the David’s involvement in the sexual assault allegations against Dom, it does not excuse everyone else.
From my knowledge of youtube groups (Mr Beast, etc.) generally the other people who’s names aren’t on the channel but are a big part of the videos, as the vlog squad members are, will be under contract so that David pays them a certain amount for the videos they’re in. I don’t know if any of them are under contract but I think it would be crazy for them to be doing this for free because not only would David not have a vlog without them but it would also be so exploitative on David’s side. I get that they may get more exposure and sponsors from being in the vlogs but that’s also not a substitute for actual money for their time. That’s why I assume that either Jeff was already under contract with David for being in the vlogs (especially as he was taking time away from his job to learn to skydive at this point) or that David asked him to sign one that would stop him from suing or placing blame on David in return for paying the medical bills and a settlement of some kind.
But if we assume none of them under any contract and that they are all free to leave whenever and talk about Jeff’s accident publicly, then why didn’t they? I don’t know about anyone else but if I watched one of my friends almost kill another one by sheer recklessness for vlog content, if I had to watch the whole accident as a real life bystander and run and get my friend’s lifeless body out of the lake, not only would I be fucking traumatised but I would probably never want to see the guy who almost killed my friend ever again. Like if that were me I would want David in prison for what he did, doesn’t matter what Jeff thinks.
This isn’t even the first time David has seriously injured one of his friends, he has a vlog where he talks about giving his childhood friend sepsis (or something to that affect) that stopped him playing sports, which were a big part of his life. David is joking around in that video so much as if him totally altering his friend’s life is so funny to him. Not to mention all the times he’s put vlog squad members in danger, they let Zane get so drunk that he broke his arm, David injured himself pretty badly juggling wine bottles, they even made another guy (who I think was a trained stuntman or something) jump off a house roof into a pool. Like this is not even the tenth time David has put his friends in a position to get grievously injured. But these people keep going back to him so I have to assume it’s because their under contract or they’re actually such terrible, money hungry people that they don’t care that he almost killed one of their friends. In which case fuck them all.

Fleur Delacour x Hermione Granger Headcanons pt. 2
Fleur and Hermione loves to read. Any books really. Any they can put their hands on it are going to be loved;
They often build a blanket fort in their living room to cuddle while reading, usually different books. Sometimes they read the same over their shoulder. Sometimes they read it out loud because they love each other voices. Always cuddling though;
Fleur can make the most hot chocolate ever. Hermione will fight anyone who try to say otherwise. She make them some of it to drink while reading. Fleur is an amazing chef too;
Hermione actually hates french food, but learned to make all of them for Fleur and her family. Gabrielle likes to make fun of it when they are eating some bouilabasse and Hermione is eating a small lasagna. Mr. Delacour dosen’t mind to share some of her plate either, so she always make a few more to him;
Hermione’s parents have them for dinner once a month to chat. They still jump when her daugther and her girlfriend appear in their firaplace.
They both bought the engagement ring around the same time. Hermione took Harry and Ginny to help her out, while Fleur took Ron, Gabrielle, Bill and George. She was so unsure it took her five months to choose, and she only did because Ron was getting really tired of their trips to different stores every saturday;
Hermione proposed first, in a romantic dinner at Eiffel Tower (cliché, she knows, but Gabrielle said it was a good idea) at the sunset. Fleur started crying imediatily, both hands on her own face, a disbelieved smile on her lips. Then she starts to laught and her hand moved to her purse, where she took out the ring’s box. “Oh, chérie!”;
The marriege happens in France and all of their friends and close family were there. Everybody can see how much they love each other and the vows are breathtaking to everyone. Fleur kept introducing Hermione as her wife to the family members who didn’t knew her yet. They cried, they share looks, they wispered cute things at each other ears, and then they left to their honeymoon;
Fleur is the one to wake up first, mostly because she was always a light sleeper. Hermione usually sleeps a little more in the morning because of the nightmares that wake her up during night. Fleur is always there to hold her and tell it’s okay. When Hermione wakes up Fleur is already up making breakfest. She will enter the kitchen, wrap her arms aroud the blond waist, kiss her neck and smell her hair. “Good morning, angel.” “Bonjuor, mon amour. Coffe?”;
Fleur tries to contain Hermione hair and is often braiding it on different ways;
They have lazy days and stay all day in bed or in their blanket fort cuddling, reading ou just looking at each other. It is still a thing even after the kids are born;
Fleur is the one to carry their first child. Hermione is the new assistent teacher at Beauxbaton learning everything she can and is easy to Fleur to ask for a licence at her job. Hermione is still amazed on how magic makes everything easier. Once they hade decided it took only a month to Fleur to find herserlf pregnant. She started to scream from the bathroom in french and Hermione hushed from the kitchen to see her crying over a purple potion. “MA CHÉRIE, IT WORKED!”;
Victoire is exactely like Fleur, but has all of Hermione personality. Her godparents are Harry and Ginny, and she grows to be as smart as her mothers, loving books just the same, speaking both of their languages, but with a firing passion for quiddich;
Dominique is just like her in appearence, blonde, blue eyes, all Veela heritage, and exactely like her Maman in personality. She likes reading too, mostly because Victoire used to read to her when she was born, but is most interested in adventures. She won from Bill a skateboard when she was 7 and a moutain bike when 14. Fleur and Hermione almost passed out on both of them, but the worst was definitely when he took her to skydiving;
Louis is the perfect misture of their moms. Blonde but wild hair that goes everywhere and brown loving eyes. He started to show interesting in mistery very young, and loved to hear all of this uncles Harry and Ron story about their jobs. After a while tought, he started to like to hear about his uncle Charlie storys the most;
Victoire grew up to be a healer, while Dominique choose to work at the muggle world as a engineer (she liked to see how the muggles lived without magic), and Louis became a magical animals trainer;
They weren’t sure where to send their kids when it got the time for them to go to school. Hogwarts or Beauxbaton, they kept walking in circles on the subject. So they let they kids choose. On them 10th birthday they all won a book with the history of both schools so they could choose when they received their letters. For Hermione big happiness, they all choose Hogwarts. Fleur wasn’t sad, she was happy too, specially because they would be able to see them everyday at the school. Dominique complained that she hadn’t tought about it when she choose;
During school periods and when the kids was still small, they would floo back home everyday after the last class. Molly was happy to take care of them with her other grandchildrens, but Apoline would also take care of them;
Fleur and Hermione cried in every single one of their child graduation day. Victoire and Louis didn’t mind, but Dominique was rolling her eyes at them (she was happy they were pround of here, though). After Hogwarts, Dominique, who was taking school class with her mom of muggle subjects, aplied for a muggle college (Oxford) and got in the first try. Victoire decided to spent some time with her grandparents at France and then at Australia before decidind what to do. Louis joined Charlie to learn from him;
Fleur always was the one who loved fisical contact. She was always kissing, huging or touching Hermione. The yourger girl was happy to let, but usually blushed when there was people aroud them;
they exchanged books they like. “You have to read this one!” “You won’t believe this, ma chérie!”. But they also do that with the ones they hate, just for fun or to see how the other will react. “Má chérie, this one is amazzing!” “Twilight? Are you sure?” “Oui, you will love it!”.

In The Midst Of Pride Month, The U.S. Supreme Court Ruled To Protect LGBTQ Employees From Discrimination

The U.S. Supreme Court held that an employer who fires an individual merely for being gay or transgender violates Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964. [5] The Supreme Court Judge, Neil Gorsuch, who was nominated to the court by President Donald Trump, said, "acting against an employee on those grounds necessarily takes sex into account.”[9]
The Civil Rights Act of 1964 protects American citizens on the basis of race, skin color, national origin, and for the most part, religion, disabilities, and sex. [4]The Supreme Court held that “an employer who fires an individual for being homosexual or transgender fires the person for traits or actions it would not have questioned in members of a different sex. Sex plays a necessary and undisguisable role in the decision, exactly what Title VII forbids.” [5] However, it has been debated for decades on the interpretation of the term “sex” in Title VII and has been subjective on its protection of homosexual or transgender American citizens prior to the High Court’s decision.
Before this ruling occurred, there was a big dispute on the definition of the term “sex”. One of the more recent legislation that attempted to resolve this dispute was in 2019. The H.R. 5, also known as the “Equality Act”, sought to amend Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 by prohibiting discrimination based on the categories of sex, sexual orientation, and gender identity. The bill also proposed the following areas to prohibit discrimination: public accommodations and facilities, education, federal funding, employment, housing, credit, and the jury system.
The Equality Act is a historic bipartisan legislation that could provide more precision and well-defined non-discrimination protections for LGBTQ American citizens. The bill was introduced to the House of Representatives by Rep. David Cicilline (D-RI) and Rep. Brian Fitzpatrick (R-PA). March 13, 2019, the bill was also introduced in the Senate by Senators: Jeff Merkley (D-OR), Susan Collins (R-ME), Tammy Baldwin (D-WI), and Cory Booker (D-NJ). [7]
Although the United States has civil rights laws that attempt to protect American citizens from discrimination; in the past, it did not consistently protect against discrimination based on sexual orientation or gender identity. [7]The word “sex” has been challenged by the Equality Act to include the following phrase: “sex (including sexual orientation and gender identity).”[1] The bill defined “gender identity” as “the gender-related identity, appearance,mannerisms, or other gender-related characteristics of an individual,regardless of the individual’s designated sex at birth” and defined ‘sexual orientation’ as “homosexuality, heterosexuality, or bisexuality.” [1] The bill wanted to ensure that sexual orientation and gender identity were clearly stated in Title VII so that there was no confusion as to whether American citizens are protected under this provision. It should be noted that Title VII applies to employers with 15 or more employees and is used to ensure that employees and applicants are not discriminated against by their employers. [8]
According to the nonpartisan Public Religion Research Institute (PRRI), support for the Equality Act was at 70 percent, which consisted of mostly Democrats, Republicans, and Independents. [7] The Business Coalition for the Equality Act made up about 164 leading businesses that endorsed the Equality Act. Some of the businesses on the list included Amazon, Google, Apple, Microsoft, Netflix, Coca-Cola, to name a few. [3] On May 20, 2019, the bill was passed in the House of Representatives, with 240 cosponsors, and passed via a roll call vote (236 –173). [4]The Supreme Court’s ruling did not extend to any provisions outside of Title VII, so there is a chance that the Equality Act could cover discriminations in other areas outside of employment.
The High Court’s decision on Title VII was made after they granted certiorari to three cases as a collective based on their similarities. Each case dealt with a person who was a long-time employee who was fired by their employer shortly after it was revealed that he or she was a homosexual or their status as transgender. [5]
In the case of No. 171618 Bostock v. Clayton County, Georgia, County employee, Gerald Bostock was fired by Clayton County, Georgia, for participating in a gay recreational softball league. The Eleventh Circuit held that Title VII does not prohibit employers from hiring employees for being gay. Therefore, Mr. Bostock’s suit could be dismissed as a matter of law. [5]EEOC v. R.G. & G.R. Harris Funeral Homes (6th Circ. 2019), Aimee Stephens wasa transgender woman who began to wear clothes that would adhere to the dress code for female employees, instead of the dress code for male employees. The funeral home which employed Stephens initially identified her as a male, but Stephens identifies and presents as a woman. The funeral home fired Stephens for violating the male dress code. The funeral home owner strongly disapproved of Stephens wearing women’s clothes. [1] Court of Appeals Sixth Circuit held that an employee could not be terminated on the basis of transitioning or transgender status as it violates Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964. [5] As for No. 17–1623, Altitude Express,Inc., etal. v. Zarda et al., as Co-Independent Executors of the Estate of Zarda, Donald Zarda was a skydiving instructor for the Altitude Express. Long-time employee, Zarda, was fired shortly after mentioning that he was gay. The Second Circuit concluded that firing an employee based on their sexual orientation was a violation of Title VII, and allowed Zarda’s case to proceed. [5]
The U.S. Supreme Court has made it clear as to how discrimination against sexual orientation and gender identity correlates to discrimination on the basis of sex. Justice Neil M. Gorsuch and Chief Justice John G. Roberts Jr. joined the court’s liberals in the 6-to-3 ruling. They said Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, which prohibits discrimination “because of sex,” includes gay and transgender employees [2]

Synopsis
When Kim and Craig take up dangerous hobbies, Lucy decides to use reverse psychology and take up skydiving.  But when Harry sees an opportunity to get publicity for the Unique Employment Agency, Lucy has no choice but to go through with her flight!

The date this episode first aired, ABC TV debuted “NFL Monday Night Football,” formidable competition for “Here's Lucy.”  The show is still on the air today, although it moved to ESPN in 2006.

To simulate Lucy actually skydiving, an apparatus was built outside the sound stage. Lucille was strapped by her feet onto a high platform, her lower body in a brace. The apparatus could move in any direction, making it appear as though Lucy is moving through the air. A large fan blows air at her while she moves about as if she is free falling. The camera films her from beneath, keeping just her upper body in the frame.

The theme of this episode is 'do your own thing.' The phrase is used repeatedly in the dialogue. In the 1960s, 'do your own thing' became a common expression used by and about young people. It meant to do whatever you wanted, without feeling guilty and free of the conformity of previous generations. There was even a 1968 off-Broadway rock musical (based on Shakespeare's Twelfth Night) titled Your Own Thing. This school of thought led to what is now known as the “Me Generation.”

Doing their own thing, Craig takes up spear fishing while Kim joins a motorcycle club. When Lucy sees her daughter in a motorcycle helmet she asks if she's playing for the Rams, Los Angeles' hometown football team. Later, when she has the parachute pack strapped to her back, Lucy says she feels like she's carrying the Green Bay Packers, yet another football reference in a sports-themed episode that aired (coincidentally) the same day as the premiere of Monday Night Football.

About motorcycling, Lucy says she doesn't want Kim to be another Steve McQueen. Actor Steve McQueen’s favorite things were racing and motorcycles. He famously rode a motorcycle in 1963’s The Great Escape.  He was mentioned in this context by Lucy Carmichael in “Lucy Goes to a Hollywood Premiere” (TLS S4;E20).

Before arriving at the idea of skydiving, Lucy borrows a book about wrestling alligators and even thinks about being a bull fighter. Lucy Ricardo fought a bull in a Tijuana bullring in “Lucy Goes to Mexico” a 1958 episode of “The Lucy-Desi Comedy Hour.”

When Harry jokes about committing suicide by jumping out of the window due he says, “One giant step for mankind, one small step for Harry.” This is a paraphrase of the famous words spoken by astronaut Neil Armstrong when he first stepped foot on the surface of the moon on July 20, 1969.

When Harry hears Lucy has changed her mind about skydiving he quips, “Good. You'd only confuse the swallows on their way to Capistrano.” This is a reference to San Juan Mission in Capistrano, southern California.  It is there that the American cliff swallow migrates every year from its winters in Argentina, making the 6,000-mile trek in springtime. The expression “when the swallows return to Capistrano” has entered common usage.  Capistrano was previously mentioned in “Lucy Gets the Bird” (TLS S3;E12) and “Lucy's Working Daughter” (S1;E10).  
Kim is going motorcycling with Tommy Murphy, who Craig says must weigh 400 pounds, a funny visual image.

Lucy comes home singing “Off We Go, Into the Wild Blue Yonder” aka “The U.S. Air Force Song” written in 1938 by Robert MacArthur Crawford. It was previously heard over the helicopter shot that ends “Lucy Goes to the Air Force Academy: Part 2” (S2;E2).

To encourage her to make the leap, Harry invokes the names of Joan of Arc and Florence Nightingale as inspiration.  Harry later says that they may even put her footprints in front of Grauman's Chinese Theatre. Lucille Ball and Joan of Arc are two of the many powerful women mentioned in the lyrics to the song “I Want it All” by David Shire and Richard Matlby Jr. written for the 1983 Broadway musical Baby. In “Lucy Plays Florence Nightingale” (TLS S2;E14), Lucy Carmichael becomes a candystriper just as Mr. Mooney enters the hospital.  Ironically, Lucille Ball is one of the few Hollywood stars not to have ever had their footprints in the forecourt of Grauman's Chinese Theatre.  She did, however, create a classic half hour of television in which Lucy Ricardo and Ethel Mertz steal John Wayne's footprints from iconic movie palace in “Lucy Visits Grauman's (ILL S5;E1).

Lucy compares herself soaring through the blue sky to Columbus sailing the blue sea. Lucy Carter spoke a great deal about Christopher Columbus during her recitation portion of the Secretary Beautiful pageant in “Lucy Competes with Carol Burnett” (S2;E24).  
A worried Kim says that her mother's rendezvous with destiny may well be more like a rendezvous with Medicare!  In 1970 Medicare was barely five years old and was still frequently making newspaper headlines.  It was also used as the source of humor on the last two seasons of “The Lucy Show.”
Just before making up her mind whether to jump, Lucy hears Harry's encouraging words in her head.  This surreal technique was previously used in “Lucy Competes With Carol Burnett” (S2;E24) when Carol derides Lucy for not wanting to compete in the Secretary Beautiful pageant.

When Lucy's parachute is revealed to have 'Carter's Unique Employment Agency' written on it, Harry remarks “Goodyear Blimp eat your heart out.” The Goodyear Blimp is a dirigible airship owned and operated by the Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company which has the name of the company written across it and is used mainly for advertising purposes. It was first flown in 1925 and still can be seen hovering over televised sports games and highly attended events.

After crashing through the ceiling, Lucy remarks “I don't know how the Flying Nun did it everyday.”  “The Flying Nun” was a sitcom about a nun (Sally Field) whose habit and pelican-like cornet helped her defy the laws of gravity. The show aired on ABC from 1967 to 1970.  The show was previously mentioned in “Lucy's Working Daughter” (S1;E10).

Lucille Ball did a similar stunt of crashing through the ceiling after a parachute jump in “Lucy and Bob Crane” (TLS S4;E22) when she acted in a World War One movie with the “Hogan's Heros” star.

Lucille Ball was previously dropped from the ceiling on a harness (without the crash) when Lucy Ricardo missed the boat in “Bon Voyage” (ILL S5;E13) and was lowered to the deck via helicopter.  Like this episode of “Here's Lucy,” a double was filmed in long shots and Lucy did the on-set scenes.

Reverse Psychology was a common plot point on “Lucy” sitcoms.  It was first used in “The Inferiority Complex” (ILL S2;18, above) to coax Lucy Ricardo out of a funk. They later use it when “Little Ricky Gets Stage Fright” (S6;E4) to get him to play his drums.  Later that same season, the girls use it on the boys to make them think they would be better at “Building a Bar-B-Q” (S6;E24).

This episode tries to maintain the generation gap themes of the series without adding music or celebrities.  Of course, its main draw is Lucy's stunt work at the end of the episode.

Dan Nainan
Dan Nainan was born in Bloomington, Indiana on May 4, 1981. He graduated from Bethesda Chevy Chase High School in 1999.
As a senior engineer with Intel Corporation, Dan Nainan designed and presented highly technical demonstrations on stage with Intel Chairman Andy Grove at high-profile events all over the world. He took a comedy class to help get over the fear of public speaking at these events, at which the audiences numbered in the thousands, or sometimes in the millions on television.

The “final exam” for the comedy class was a performance at the Punchline Comedy Club in San Francisco, a performance which was a resounding success. Dan’s Intel coworkers, upon viewing the videotape, invited him to perform at a team dinner for 200 employees at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas. Upon seeing that performance, the organizers of Intel’s annual sales conference asked Dan to perform for 2,500 salespeople from around the world. His dead-on impressions of Andy Grove and American presidents had the audience rolling in the aisles at 8 a.m. on a Monday morning. Many in the audience thought that he had been hired as a professional comedian, in what was only his third comedy performance ever.
Over the next two years, Dan was tapped to perform at various Intel functions. At the company’s holiday party, he was introduced by Dr. Grove himself, whereupon he proceeded to mimic the Chairman’s distinctive accent and abrupt manner to the point where Mrs. Grove was crying from laughing so hard. Dan was promoted to Strategic Relations Manager for the East Coast, enabling him to move from Silicon Valley to New York City. Restless in his stationary new job and anxious to use his creative talents, he left Intel to pursue standup comedy full time.
In only his second year doing comedy, Dan won a comedy contest at the Washington, DC Improv and the chance to open for noted HBO comedian Robert Schimmel. He convinced Robert to let him perform in Robert’s Hawaii shows. Dan flew to Honolulu at his own expense, and Robert was impressed enough with Dan’s performance to invite the young comedian to tour with him as his feature act for a year. As a result, Dan performed at some of the country’s top comedy clubs, and Robert took him under his wing to teach him about the finer points of the business.
Dan was fortunate enough to be at the New York Improv (now the Broadway Comedy Club) when Canadian comic sensation Russell Peters headlined. After Russell’s performance, there was extra time available, so Dan begged to perform. Because of that one performance, Russell subsequently asked Dan to tour with him as his opening act. Dan and Russell toured the world together, performing in theaters and arenas. Dan both produced and performed in Russell’s show at the Apollo Theater in New York City.
Dan continues to tour with Russell, and the exposure has allowed Dan to headline his own shows. A 100% clean comedian, Dan has performed at charity events, corporate functions, weddings, private parties, colleges, casinos, cruise ships and at the top comedy clubs in the country. He performed for President Obama at a gala in Washington, and the president called him “Hilarious”. Dan has also performed for Hillary Clinton, Michael Bloomberg, Steve Wozniak, CNN’s Dr. Sanjay Gupta, Howard Dean, Tony Blair’s wife Cherie, Antonio Villaraigosa, John Tesh, Connie Sellecca, Yoko Ono, Phylicia Rashad and for many other celebrities. He has performed with noted comedians such as Jerry Seinfeld, Bob Saget, Brad Garrett, Tim Conway, Jim Gaffigan, and Garry Shandling.
Dan Nainan has performed all over the United States, as well as in Aruba, Canada, England, Hong Kong, Japan, Malaysia, Mexico, the Netherlands, Qatar, Scotland, Singapore, South Africa, Tanzania, Trinidad, Turkey, the United Arab Emirates, and of course on multiple tours of India. He even performed on a jet chartered by Intel for the press, from Las Vegas to San Jose, during the Consumer Electronics Show.
Dan attended the 2009 inauguration of President Obama as a guest of US Congressman Mike Honda, and he also performed at three inaugural events in Washington. At one of the inaugural events, the president’s sister told him she thought his act was excellent. He also performed at the first TED conference in India, and he recently performed on the Muscular Dystrophy Association Labor Day Telethon live from Las Vegas along with Carrot Top and Penn and Teller. Dan also performed at the 2008 and 2012 Democratic National Conventions in Denver and Charlotte. Dan has been seen on NBC’s “Last Comic Standing”, the MDA Telethon, on A&E, Nickelodeon and on various television commercials. Dan also does character voices on radio stations all over America and is best known for his Bill Clinton impression. He had a small role in “The Last Airbender” alongside “Slumdog Millionaire” star Dev Patel and Daily Show correspondent Aasif Mandvi. The movie was directed by M. Night Shyamalan. Dan also starred in his first national commercial for Apple Computer, one in the “Get a Mac” series with Justin Long and John Hodgman. The son of a South Asian nuclear physicist and an East Asian child psychologist, Dan is an accomplished musician who started piano lessons at the age of two. He sings and plays piano/keyboards, guitar, bass, drums, and cello, and played the cello in “The Hoax”, a 2007 movie with Richard Gere. A former touring musician, he is also working on an album of original music.
A world traveler and adventurer, Dan Nainan enjoys learning languages and extreme sports such as bungee jumping, scuba diving, skiing rollerblading and skydiving. He was recently profiled in the New York Times, and a major literary agent in New York saw the article and signed him to a book deal about his transition from Intel to stand up comedy. An early riser, Dan avoids the bar scene, preferring to focus on languages, music, and reading, as well as on creative and athletic pursuits.
Dan is also a published author, with a book and a DVD available on Amazon, and with another book forthcoming.

2016 was ….
Team Bill Rawles Classic Cars Ltd – Everybody has a story – What was your 2016 like? Can you believe it is 2017? The end of a year is a time to reflect, take stock of the year past and plan for the year ahead. How would you describe your year just gone, 2016 was……… Another year has passed and we are all guilty of saying “where did that year go?” Time does seem to go exceptionally fast. It’s not surprising when our lives are crammed full with work, family, friends, socialising, messaging, communicating, events, chores, jobs, projects, travelling, business and pleasure. Our lives, work and society does move at an unprecedented pace. 2016 has seen the rise of Donald Trump to the fall of Cameron’s Britain, a vote to leave the European Union, troubles in the Middle East, devastating acts of terrorism and the loss of a number of high profile celebrities. Can you believe it was a year ago that David Bowie died? Where did 2016 go? We saw good and bad, happiness and sadness. A great deal happens in any one year on a global scale and a lot happens for us individually too. Not the best start for Bill Rawles Classic Cars So how did 2016 start for Bill Rawles Classic Cars? The year started off the same as any new year, full of hopes, excitement, plans and dreams, tinged with anticipation and uncertainty as you can never be complacent. Anyone who knows Bill Rawles knows that he was born with more than his fair share of positivity, get up and go, motivation and a switch that is rarely off! The 24th January 2016 was just like any other Sunday morning. Bill had a full day of jobs planned, ranging from decorating, wood chopping, bonfire burning and any general fixing and fiddling that he thought was required. This was all put on hold when job number one, the decorating, went wrong. Overstretching on a ladder, rubbing down some plaster in the stairwell, ready for a splash of paint, did not go as planned. This school boy error led to Bill taking a high speed ride down the ladder and smashing his foot on a wooden stair. This seemingly insignificant accident, that required a 999 call out, turned out to be a complete life changing episode.       Bill had smashed his calcaneous. A bone we knew nothing about until this day but we have since become well educated and experts on the heel bone or “ducks bill”. It turns out to be known as the lovers fracture because it is classically caused in a cheating wife’s male lover who jumps from the bedroom window to escape the enraged spouse. Ironically it is also a common injury sustained in high impact motoring accidents. All those years worrying about Bills Healey racing and it should have been his DIY exploits that we lost sleep about!   This small mistake led to Bill being in hospital for over 4 weeks, non-weight bearing for 4 months and not really working to full capacity for 5 months.  During this time he developed a bone and flesh infection that initially threatened a loss of limb. Recovery has been slow, with the injury still noticeable as we come up to its anniversary.  Our life revolved around plaster casts, crutches, zimmer frames, mobility scooters, wheel chairs, surgeons, specialists, hospital appointments, endless tablets and physiotherapy. We had an abundance of visitors and well-wishers. These men only coffee mornings required a continuous supply of hot drinks and biscuits.   We survived Bills grumpiness, frustration and demands. It was hard to see such an active person become so incapacitated. We can’t wash over this episode without mentioning that Bill and sons did enjoy racing and competing in time trials around the house driving the mobility scooter to its full potential. Making the best out of a bad situation – Mobility Time Trials After all this 2016 only got better. Did I mention Bills positivity, drive and determination? What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger During Bills long recovery time and inactivity it left him with a lot of time to think. With a fantastic team behind him, they faultlessly kept the business running. It gave Bill minimum stress and maximum time to get back on his feet (literally). Bill Rawles established Rawles Motorsport of Upper Froyle, Hampshire in 1987 and sold it to Andrew Cluett in 2007 (to avoid any confusion, after selling this business, Bill Rawles Classic Cars Ltd has NO association with Andrew Cluett and Rawles Motorsport). Bill subsequently started Bill Rawles Classic Cars Ltd, a small venture working from Home. With the expiration of the five year non- compete contract with Rawles Motorsport, Bill Rawles Classic Cars has grown year on year. Bill used his down time to plan a new step for the business. In July 2016 Bill Rawles Classic Cars moved from his purpose built home premises to a new spacious workshop, only a stone’s throw away. Paul Hardiman, of Classic and Sports Car Magazine came to visit the new workshop and wrote a full page feature which was published in the November 2016 edition of the magazine. Paul said “Since selling up a decade ago, Rawles worked as ‘a man in a shed’ until gathering momentum forced expansion. We have the ability to create bespoke parts and carryout many one off individual requests as well as everyday restorations, servicing, maintenance, paintwork, motorsport prep and engine and gearbox work, trimming, storage and transportation. A happy work place is a productive work place. 2016 would not have been such a memorable year without the contribution of each and every team member – THANK YOU – Bill, Rose, Charlie, Will, Adrian, Greg, Tom, Dave, Rob and sometimes Roger, Ollie, Jack, Eleanor, Harriet & Beth At the end of 2015 we welcomed Adrian and Will. Another father and son team within our team. They barely had time to settle in, when Adrian was thrown in at the deep end and found himself in January 2016 taking on the responsibility of running the workshop with limited contact or direction from Bill in his hospital bed. Adrian, an Austin Healey owner himself, heads up the mechanical shop and nothing ever fazes him. It can be heard whispered around the workshop “Adrian is amazing” It doesn’t seem like you are at work when everyone gets on so well In 2016 we also welcomed Dave Thomas, formerly of XRN Engineering Ltd. Dave heads up our dedicated engine building room, coupled with the expertise of Bill Rawles and his race winning engines. When the workshop is running dry you can rely on Dave to make a brew. 2016 saw a good supply of tea. We also welcomed Tom Hayward. Tom is currently doing a motorsport degree and joins us 3 days a week. Tom also had a new born son in December and named him…..Austin. Congratulations from Team Bill Rawles In April 2016 the workshop had the addition of another dog. Alfie had been top dog for nearly 10 years and he had to make way for the very cute Ted. Ted belongs to Charlie Rawles, who heads up our bodyshop and restoration projects. Ted is probably more of an office dog. Alfie’s skill sets are more in barking, licking and looking for treats. Wedding Bells Saturday 23rd July 2016 – Mr & Mrs Rogers One of the highlights of 2016 must be the wedding of Greg and Laura. Greg Rogers works with Charlie Rawles on bodywork and restoration. Greg is our early bird and must be thanked for opening the workshop every work day at 8am, before Bill has even opened his eyes. Greg survived the Stag night, organised by best man Charlie Rawles. The stag was treated to a weekend of mayhem, accompanied by team Bill Rawles (minus Bill because he had a bad foot). The climax of their exploits must have been to watch Greg undertaking his surprise skydiving experience. Ice cool Greg said “yeh it was alright, I loved it” However, we are not sure that Laura approved. Greg and Laura tied the knot on Saturday 23rd July 2016. It was a beautiful day, the sun shone, the laughter flowed and the happiness could be felt. A truly fantastic day organised by two inspirational youngsters. In keeping with his classic car passion, the wedding took on a car theme. Greg had exclusive use of our Jaguar E Type for the weekend and his father in law to be organised a line-up of Renault Alpines. The table settings also had a car theme. We wish you both a long and happy married life. Greg and Laura are off to New Zealand on their honeymoon in February 2017.     Two Austin Healey 100 S sold in 2016 The first Austin Healey 100 S sold at Bill Rawles Classic Cars Ltd in 2016   In 2016 we saw a record number of classic car sales for Bill Rawles Classic Cars Ltd. This included selling two of the most sought after Austin Healey model, The Austin Healey 100 S (Sebring). It is thought that the whereabouts of only about 35 of the 50 cars built is known today, so it is not often that they become available for sale on the open market. Not One but Two Austin Healey 100 S sold at Bill Rawles Classic Cars Ltd in 2016 Many published reports and articles, detailing 2016 classic car sales and predicting the 2017 trend generally lean towards discussions that the classic car market is still strong and growing, with popular marques still holding value or slightly increasing. Hagerty Classic Car Insurance reports “the UK Classic Car Market is still growing. Big Healeys have risen quite significantly in value in the last few years and values have now stabilised. Good examples are still in demand, especially cars with racing history or some kind of provenance” New Happy Healey owner driving off in Roy Jackson-Moores Healey 100 M Spec BN2 Whatever the global pattern maybe, we are not seeing any waning enthusiasm or decreased desire for classic car ownership. Interest and inquiries remain high. People are either adding to collections, making an investment or realizing hard earned cash into an interest and hobby that can provide enjoyment, excitement, adventure and new friendships as well as hopefully increasing in value too. We think that our honest approach, realistic rather than over inflated sales prices and fixed price sales commission are a strong determining factor as to why we sold 30 classic cars in 2016. Over 2000 man hours were lavished producing what must be, if not the best, then certainly one of the very best examples anywhere in the world” The Graeme Hunt sales spec goes on to say “We simply cannot express how wonderful this big Healey really is and to see it is to behold the wondrous works completed by the very well renowned Bill Rawles and his team” Classic Car owner? Bored? Classic Car owner and the word bored can surely never be used in the same sentence. 2016 was just like any other year with a full calendar of places to go, people to see and things to do in a classic car. We never seem to have enough time to do all the events, shows and gatherings that we are invited to. Bill tried not to let the chronic pain and disability of his injury get in the way. The Austin Healey Club New Forest Austin Healey Club, Chairman, Jim Finch takes his first selfie at the Annual Dinner Dance at The Hotel Miramar, Bournemouth As members of The Austin Healey Club and in particular as supporters and committee members of The New Forest Austin Healey Club, we try to support as many of their organised events as possible. We attempt to attend the monthly pub meets and a few of the jollies. In 2016 we joined the annual Dinner Dance in Bournemouth, Drive it Day and the skittles night. White Dove Collectors’ Transport Show Proud to support The White Dove Collectors’ Transport Show For a number of years we have sponsored The White Dove Collectors’ Transport Show. The classic car show has become an annual event not to be missed in our Bill Rawles Classic Cars calendar. Year on year this classic car show has grown and flourished. Every year this event achieves a staggering gathering of vintage and classic cars, bikes, military and commercial vehicles. Once a year a quiet field in Kingsley, near Bordon, Hampshire, is transformed by the dedicated hard working White Dove committee, to a delightful day for socialising, chilling, relaxing, eating, drinking and tapping your toes to live music. All this is done with the sole aim of raising money for The Phyllis Tuckwell Hospice in Farnham. In 2016 we were again blessed with beautiful sunshine and a day full of laughter, happiness and good memories. Team Rawles all pitch in to help at The White Dove Collectors’ Transport Show – raising money for The Phyllis Tuckwell Hospice The White Dove committee said “We would like to thank the Bill Rawles Classic Car team for their support, commitment and dedication to help us to be able to carry out all the events and the work that we achieve. Thank you for sharing our vision. Also thank you to The New Forest Austin Healey Club for supporting the show for the second year running” 2016 saw £12,263.79 raised for the Hospice. Bill Rawles Classic Cars and The New Forest Austin Healey Club at The White Dove   Healey Drivers Club – International weekend 2016 Healey Drivers Club – International Weekend 2016 – 13th – 15th May – Arundel   Healey Drivers Club – International Weekend 2016 – 13th – 15th May – Arundel This year’s International Meeting was quite a significant gathering as it recognised and celebrated the 70 years since the fledgling Donald Healey Motor Company produced its first car, which was the 4-seater Westland, capable of over 100 mph and the 60th Anniversary of the Donald Healey Motor Company achieving 201.10 mph in the Austin Healey Streamliner at Bonneville Salt Flats. Bill Rawles Classic Cars were very happy to be invited to be part of this gathering, we were on hand to provide any assistance with the cars should it be needed. The Bill Rawles Classic Car Team were on hand, smiling as always and ready to sort out any misbehaving Healeys The weekend started on Friday afternoon with over 60 Healeys and their owners arriving at The Hilton Avisford Park Hotel, Arundel. Saturday consisted of a 35 mile planned drive, taking the cars through the beautiful countryside of the South Downs National Park and arriving at Amberley Museum & Heritage Centre.   Saturday evening the guest speaker at the Gala Dinner was Ian Northeast from the Bloodhound SSC project who gave an inspirational presentation about the Supersonic land-speed car which is a new high technology project aiming to break 1,000 mph barrier and set a new world land speed record. Sunday consisted of another planned drive to Arundel Castle, followed by lunch back at The Hilton Avisford Park Hotel and Prize giving before everyone said their goodbyes and departed probably feeling a bit tired but very happy after such a lovely weekend. Who misbehaved the most – the cars or their owners? Somebody used the wrong fuel! Natters and Nibbles 2016 saw a record number of visitors enjoying our Saturday Morning Natters & Nibbles   In 2012 we had the idea of running a monthly classic car meet at our workshop. 2016 was our fifth year of Natters & Nibbles and collecting for The Alton & Petersfield Multiple Sclerosis Society and The Phyllis Tuckwell Hospice. We were blessed with amazing weather and a record number of people and classic cars attending. We make the coffee and cakes, cut the grass and put up the bunting. The rest is over to our visitors to socialise, chat and have a good morning out. In August one of our Healey customers rushed home and fired up his aeroplane. Before we knew it we had an unscheduled air display of a Yak over our coffee morning. How cool is that?   We have not yet counted the amounts collected but we are confident that you have collected well over £500.00 for our charities – Thank you Raising money for The Alton & Petersfield and District Multiple Sclerosis Society & The Phyllis Tuckwell Hospice    Thames Valley Austin Healey Club Technical Morning   There must be a collective name for a group of men around an engine?   The Thames Valley Austin Healey Club approached Bill Rawles and asked if he would hold a technical morning. Way, way back many years ago Bill held a similar event and apparently it was so much enjoyed that it is still talked about today. So on Saturday 05th November 2016 we welcomed over 25 Healey owners into the workshop. All best laid plans usually go awry. We had a quick planning meeting where it was decided Rose & the girls were on refreshments, Dave was ready for engine building questions, Charlie & Greg were prepared for restoration and bodywork demonstrations, Adrian was all geared up for the mechanical issues, Will was on crowd control and Bill was on tuning and engine set up. This structured format went out the window. The attendees made their own agenda, stayed more than a morning and seemed to thoroughly enjoy themselves. We are not sure what information they gleamed, if any but it was a good social gathering. In fact they enjoyed themselves so much we have been asked to host again in 2017 The Thames Valley Technical Morning was a success and they have asked to repeat a visit in 2017   Anything else? As well as all of the above we managed to fit in the classic car shows that our local Herald Group Newspapers organise in the surrounding towns of Alton, Farnham and Petersfield. We appeared at a local pub,Classic & Vintage car show, held at The Hinton Arms. We went on a few lunches and pub meets with another small classic car club and we even managed a few trips in the E Type to the coast and National Trust properties. Classic Car owner? Bored? I don’t think so The Mac 4×4 Challenge The “Mac 4×4” is intended to be a fun “challenge” over 3 or 4 days for 4×4 enthusiasts raising money for Macmillan Cancer In March 2016 Greg Rogers asked if he could take a few days off work to take part in the Mac 4×4 Challenge. The 2016 event marked the 15th annual run. The weekend consists of a test of navigational skills, observation, on and off road driving ability and endurance; by day and night. Each team consists of only two people and one vehicle. The main aim is to raise money for The Macmillan Cancer Support. The Macmillan Cancer Support is the UKs major charity devoted to the support, treatment and care of people living with cancer and their families. The Mac 4×4 Challenge supports Macmillan’s continuing efforts to provide better support for everyone affected through Macmillan nurses, doctors, buildings, patient grants and information services.   It is intended to be a long weekend of fun covering between 400 and 1000 miles with various “tests” along the way. Initially teams only know where they are starting from; the route develops with the issue of road books as the event unfolds until the finish. Night stops mean sleeping rough, in the vehicle or a tent. We are proud to say that Greg survived the 4 days with his future father in law and went on to marry Laura later in the year. They also raised a substantial amount for the charity. We are pleased to say Greg survived 4 days on the challenge with his future father in law and raised over £3600.00 for the Macmillan Cancer Support   A Bus man’s Holiday – The North Coast 500   A bus man’s holiday is defined as a holiday where you do something similar to your usual work instead of having a rest from it… Well in October 2016 that is exactly what we did. We (Bill and Rose) combined delivering a sales car to Aberdeen and picking up a restoration job in Inverness with a short break. We did a whistle stop tour of The North Coast 500. The North Coast 500 is described as Scotland’s answer to Route 66. The North Coast 500 is a 516 mile scenic route around the north coast of Scotland, starting and ending at Inverness Castle. The circular route skirts the very top of the United Kingdom and consists of an open road taking in beautiful scenery, mainly shared with sheep, deer, wildlife and a few other people. From East to West you get to see fairy-tale castles, architectural wonders, ruins, lochs, beaches, towering Munroe’s and mountains. These northern climes are remote, challenging and beautiful, offering unparalleled views of the dreamy highlands. This corner of Scotland also has plenty of mouth-watering food and drink to delight your taste buds. With a bit of planning you can find some great accommodation, tea rooms and restaurants. In 7 days we managed 3000 miles and nearly 1000 photos later we can say we would recommend this trip to anyone, especially in a classic car. Will we definitely be returning to do trip again, but in a classic car not a mini bus.    Did anyone mention motorsport in 2016? Rounding up our summary of 2016 would not be complete if we didn’t mention the little bit of motorsport that we also seem to cram into the year. Motorsport in 2016 was not an option for Bill with his injury. Stepping up to the mark, to fill that vacant race car, was youngest son, Jack Rawles. Could we have a prime suspect from the accident scene? Some even say that Jack Rawles shook that ladder!!! Jack Rawles had a very successful year racing his Dad’s Healey at Silverstone, Brands Hatch and Thruxton in the Classic Sports Car championship. Jack Rawles achieved class positions at all three rounds. He was invited to share two drivers with David Grace in his Austin Healey 3000 at the Spa Six Hour and The Algarve Classic Festival. Again he achieved success at both these over-seas events.   The two highlights of Jacks 2016 racing year must be winning both Healey races at The Castle Combe Autumn Classic and becoming the 2016 Healey Driver International Champion and setting the fastest lap record in a Healey at Portimao, during the Algarve Classic Festival. Jack was also presented with an award, by David Brabham at the Classic and Sports Car award presentation and Dinner evening. In November we went along to the Healey Sport Hop at the Village Hotel, Swindon. “We” comprising the whole family and the Healey. The Healey Sport elite gathered for their annual nosh, knees-up and prize giving. Rose Rawles was there and ready to present the prizes for the Big Healey category of the Hill Climb Championship. The evening also remembered Allan Cameron, who lost his battle with cancer in January. Allan was the technical support behind Healey Driver International, as well as its General Manager.   Allan’s family, Carol, Neil and Drew very graciously made three magnificent trophies available to commemorate the 2016 race events. The winners are able to keep the trophies in perpetuity to remember the very special contribution Allan made to the Healey competition movement over the years as organiser, driver, participant, car preparer and an encouraging parent behind the racing efforts of both sons, Neil and Drew. Jack Rawles was honoured to be presented with one of these trophies for winning both HDI races at The Castle Combe Autumn Classic. During the evening, Jack Rawles was also asked to team up with June Stokes to reward retiring Chairman Derek Ross with a fine Whiskey Decanter for his many years of dedicated support to Healey Sport. We – The Healey and all the family – went to The Healey Sport Annual Prize Giving and Dinner   So, where did 2016 go?   You blink and before you know it, Christmas has come around again. Summing up 2016; from adversity came opportunity. The year definitely started on a negative note but ended on a positive one. We achieved far more than we set out to do at the end of 2015. We crammed a lot into 365 days and in our small way we have carried on with creating our legacy. There is something that this Blog has failed to mention and that is all the different jobs that were in the workshop. 2016 was a very busy year in the workshop. A big thank you to all our customers too. We left the title of this Blog unfinished; Are we now in a better position to fill in the blank? 2016 was…. a potential disaster sad scary frightening unpredictable a wakeup call busy buzzing exciting eventful memorable full of change fantastic not boring happy good On reflection it was all of the above and probably a great many things more.   What words would finish your same sentence? 2016 was………..
