I think part of the reason a few of the "Nancy and Steve relationship post-mortem" scenes in fics don't...vibe with me or whatever is that sometimes they make it seem Nancy has thought things out and come at it objectively when like. She wouldn't. She didn't. Nancy is sixteen/seventeen years old in S2/3, she's not going to act completely rationally! She's not going to be reasonable about this. She's either not going to bring up how their relationship ended with Steve at all ever, or act like she was entirely justified in it, or get upset when Steve acts like a seventeen year old who got his heart broken.

She wouldn't be telling him "I understand why you wouldn't want to fight the government" no!! She'd ask why he's upset if it's been a few months, or if it's been a year and now she wants to talk and he doesn't she wouldn't understand! Because Nancy struggles with any perspective besides her own and she is VERY dead set on her own ideas and viewpoint. She was upset and hurting, for different reasons than Steve, at the end of her dating Steve, and so why would she bother thinking about her ex's feelings on the breakup? It's an interesting character dynamic, and an interesting aspect of Nancy's character that I don't see expanded on too often. She's stubborn and relatively inflexible, and she struggles to understand other people's points of view.

I guess I just want to see all their mess! I want to see a post S2 stancy fight! Crying and yelling and snot!! A blowout of emotions!!

stancys listen okay:

when jonathan comes back in the end of vol 2 she’s excited they haven’t seen each other all year but their meeting falls short during their conversations and their only scene is packed with foreshadowing.

they both express through stuttering that they’re glad the other was not there, nancy covering it up by saying shes glad he was with mike and will. then jonathan makes a small dig at steve “otherwise who wouldve be in charge, steve?” which prompts her to defend him “he’s actually grown up quite a bit, y’know?”. you can tell the comment bothered her and even made her feel a tad bit guilty for what she said back to him but from what she’s seen all season, he has. from their time together you can tell a shift in the perception she had of him— his maturity his compssion, his HONESTY, protectiveness, loyalty and especially his steadfast presence in the hawkins group (her relief when she sees him&the group while they interrogate her about fred, “be careful!” scene, diving head first into watergate, catching her during the earthquake and after vecna releases her, etc.) all of which are traits she’s described to fred on why she loved jonathan was but instead better fits steve this seasonc also contrasting jonathan’s absence; which she’s hinted if not outrightly said she doesnt understand why he’s not there in hawkins or ever visited her. steve has said she’s always been there in the dream he’s envisioned, while it’s shown he’s been there for her throughout the whole season. jonathan and nancy’s scene continues awkwardly as he chooses to keep her in the dark about the letter and her unsure answer if theyre okay.

the unaddressed problems for jancy suggests a swap of what happened with jancy and stancy in s1-s2: the issues jancy faces this season closely resembles her relationship with steve at the end of s1/start of s2 where she had growing feelings for jonathan, but now she has unresolved/reignited feelings for steve but is staying with jonathan for the sake of relationship.

and as the duffer brothers have said, not only will we see character arcs come full circle for will or the younger kids, stating “but also with steve and nancy, and her relationship with jonathan, where things are not fully resolved”. steve and nancy have grown as characters separately and in season 4, together they continue to attract each other. her revived feelings that she’s kept down did not come out of nowhere because first love is first love and hers will always be steve. we will see them come full circle in season 5 back to season 1 with their arcs complete.

ok so everyone has their dumb nevr gonna happen theories sooooooo mine is that what if maybe this new hot man of color isnt actually nancy's second love interest destined to die or disappear from this realm??? what if he isnt actually a temperance plant? WHAT IF hes gonna help her break the curse?? like yah he has a crush, who wouldnt? and nancys got eyes, yknow? BUT they never date hes just got an in with magical relics and tristan is just a guy who really wants to be friends with nancy? and actually ships her and ace together?

and maybe im on drugs? but i think i can write a better next episode where tristan and nacy look like theyre dating but theyre just trying to break the curse without anyone knowing cuz they got so mad last time. and like we still get angsty ace for only like half an episode and tristan and nancy break the nace curse and she comes back by minute 19 all tada we can kiss now. and then they all live happily ever after for the next couple of episodes, the end.

born mila mesaroš in the dead of serbian winter, nancy was the youngest child of six - evening out the mesaroš children to three sons and three daughters. her parents, katarina & aleksandar, were kind folk; loving and doting on their children, warm and inviting to neighbors. truly a pair of ideal mother and father to most peoples' eyes.

her five older siblings? spitting carbon copies of their parents; kind, helpful to others, affectionate with one another. until the years passed one after the next, and and their baby sister started to unnerve each of them.

nancy - or mila still at this point - was an outlier, a very quiet infant, very quiet toddler. rarely did she cry, rarer did she seem to crack a smile. she was a stoic child, who stared and observed the others in her family ore than she ever truly interacted with them.

even when her older sisters tried to coax her into playing around with them, even when her brothers tried to step in protectively when other children would tease or bully her, she hardly ever reacted to their gestures. to what made them care for her, want to look out for her. they were concerned, and voiced those to their parents; it was mirrored in them, how their youngest just appeared so... dulled, so subdued, in comparison to the rest of them.

and aleksandar and katarina, they both desperately tried for her. truly, they did.

from having her seen by doctors to biting tongue and visiting local healers with... different practices, none seemed to offer any clear or even remotely helpful insight on her cold demeanor.

and so, their parents opted to instead try working with their youngest and her differing personality rather than attempt to change it to better suit themselves. they slowly began to ease up on their doting natures, giving the child space from them rather than following her about lost and confused. they allowed her space to go out alone rather than be crowded by her sisters or her brothers. allowed her some solitude. and after a time?

mila smiled at them at the dinner table. and they were overjoyed.

The angsty one I want is not coming along like I want it to. Shame, it includes a very conveniently placed and very deep cut requiring immediate medical attention but *somebody* is not going to the hospital cause she's *stubborn* nor does she feel like explaining *how* she got said cut.

Okay so context first: The cast and writers did a panel (I think for S2) but since it was prerecorded online because of lockdown there weren’t any fan questions. So instead they decided the first half they would ask each other questions in character and then out of character plus writers for the second half.

Note: both of Ryan’s questions were to Ace, and I was half expecting “What are your intentions with my daughter?”

But Carson ended up mentioning something about the Drew’s having a secret family pancake recipe. (It might have actually been Kate’s grandmother’s, but I don’t think Scott knows Kate’s maiden name so he just said it was a Drew tradition.) And he said he would pass it to Nancy once she had hit a big milestone in her life, like when she gets her own apartment.

So in the fic, Dads and Ace are hanging out in the kitchen while Nancy is upstairs. Carson tells Ace the story of when the pancake recipe was passed down to him and how he used the famous pancakes to propose to Kate. The next week Ace brings Nancy breakfast in bed.

OKAY. So there is a LOT to unpack here....

1) Where is this panel, how did I not know it existed, and where can I watch it???

2) PANCAKES??? Idk if you know this about me but I am HIGHLY emotional about Nace and pancakes.
