Good Omens S2E2 'Book club' (Xray trivia says Douglas and Neil would love the viewers to read these books) - do they signal where the story of S3 is going? All themes/plot summaries are taken from google (and are not my own interpretations), so may not be totally accurate however are here as food for thought. From L>R I Capture the Castle - Dodie Smith Set in WW2, story is told through the journals of the narrator. Coming-of-age story. Themes: love, poverty, propriety. No woman, No cry - Rita Marley Biography of Bob Marley's by his partner Rita. Themes: centres around the relationship between Bob and Rita. No woman no cry is often used to promote encouragement and recognise that life is worth living. The Crow Road - Iain Banks Mystery novel, 'Crow Road' is Scottish expression for death/afterlife. Themes: death, faith, morality, discovery (self/family). The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time - Mark Haddow Murder mystery, protagonist has ASD and finds people confusing. Themes: family, honesty, bravery. Catch-22 - Joseph Heller Set in WW2, American bombardier stranded on island and follows his attempts to survive. Themes: individual vs society, moral crisis (self interest vs altruism), morality, justice, personal integrity. Love in a Time of Cholera - Gabriel García Márquez Tale of 2 lovers who reunite after a lifetime apart. Follows the secret relationship - father of one person forces them to stop seeing the other. Themes: parallels between 'lovesick' and literal illness, love, morality, social norms vs personal fulfillment, perseverence/endurace.
*I can't see the next book title!* Nineteen Eighty Four - George Orwell Dystopian fiction, protagonist is frustrated at the omnipresent 'eyes'/oppression of the ruling party. Protagonist keeps a diary and embarks on a forbidden relationship. Themes: totalitarianism, identitiy, reality, censorship, freedom. The Big Sleep - Raymond Chandler Story of a private investigator (PI) hired to investigate the incidents of blackmail against the clients daughter (by a bookseller). PI finds they have been pulled into a bigger story than initially anticipated. Themes: corruption, death as an escape, morality. The Bible Does this need a summary? The Great Gatsby - F. Scott Fitzgerald Story told by narrator in a series of flashbacks. Tells story of a millionaire and his pursuit of the woman he loves. Themes: tradgedy, corruption, greed, love. Catcher in the Rye - J.D. Salinger Covers the expulsion of protagonist from his school and his search for truth in what he perceives as a 'phony' world. Told via flashback/through memory. Themes: innocence, death, resistence of maturation/growing up. A Series of Unfortunate Events - Lemony Snicket (pseudonym) Three siblings are rescued from a tradgedy befalling their family and live with a relative who conspires for their fortune. Themes: greed, grief, lonliness, found family, morality. Herzog - Saul Bellow Told (in large part) through letters written by the protagonist. Themes: ambiguity, personal journey, religion, death, love. There is a mention somewhere of it being linked to the concept of everything returning to the earth.
Go read the books suggested here to find out more and how these might relate to GO S3! (These themes were taken from various sites including cliffnotes, sparknotes, wikipedia, britannica, shmoop, bookbrowse etc).

KT Tunstall & Martin Sexton – Keswick Theatre – Glenside, PA – May 4, 2023
Folk-based singer songwriters KT Tunstall and Martin Sexton turned out to be a perfect pairing in their recent co-headlining gig in the Philly suburbs. Their individual styles both meshed and contrasted, making for a fine evening of smart and funny stories and tunes. Each artist performed solo, mostly on acoustic guitar (each artist did one song on piano, Sexton did a few on banjo and Tunstall also did some electric songs). Each did about 12 songs in their set, and then got together for a two-song encore.
Tumblr media
Sexton took the stage first, mixing his homey storytelling with his sturdy voice and gentle guitar plucking. He luxuriated through a nice cross-section of his songbook, warbling (and as he pointed out, periodically yodeling) through the likes of “There Go I,” “Diggin’ Me,” “Freedom of the Road,” “Happy” and “Virginia.” Most relatable was one of his newest songs, the life-during-the-pandemic ballad “Hold On,” in which he sweetly catalogued all the things he did in his home with his family because suddenly the outside world had pretty much stopped.
Tumblr media
Perhaps Sexton’s finest moment though was when he played his song “Hallelujah” (not to be confused with Leonard Cohen’s standard of the same name) and acknowledged that it followed a chord structure that was pretty much ubiquitous in pop music, and he proceeded to sing snatches of several other songs that had basically the same flow, including U2’s “With or Without You,” Cheap Trick’s “Surrender,” Bob Marley’s “No Woman No Cry” and the Beatles’ “Let It Be.”
Tumblr media
Sexton wasn’t the only one who acknowledged that sometimes songs can be – consciously or unconsciously – inspired by other songs. In fact, in her set, Tunstall said that she’d never really acknowledged something before, but in the Philadelphia area, the home of Rocky, she felt it was the right time. Therefore in the middle of her performance of her own song “Miniature Disasters,” Tunstall demonstrated how if you change a note or two you would get “Eye of the Tiger,” and she happily sang out a couple of verses and the chorus of that song for the audience.
Tumblr media
“Eye of the Tiger” was only one of several pop covers that Tunstall weaved into her set, some of which were done as mashups of her own songs. When doing “Dear Shadow,” a new song that she had written with popular songwriter Cathy Dennis, she played a bit of Dennis’ hit Britney Spears composition “Toxic.” When doing her own hit “Black Horse and a Cherry Tree,” Tunstall incorporated a short break from The White Stripes’ “Seven Nation Army.” And when she asked the audience if they would like a new song or a classic cover, she decided on both, playing her own “All The Time” and following it up with a propulsive run through Don Henley’s “The Boys of Summer.”
Tumblr media
However, Tunstall did not skimp on her own music. She played a drop-dead-gorgeous version of “Other Side of the World,” as well as a spiky run through the forementioned “Miniature Disasters,” and the lovely new “All the Time.” By the time she closed her set with a propulsive version of her smash hit “Suddenly I See,” Tunstall had the crowd eating out of her hand.
Tumblr media
Then, after a short call for an encore, Tunstall and Sexton came out together and duetted on sweet acoustic versions of the traditional standards “This Little Light of Mine” and “You Are My Sunshine.” It was an enlightening end to a wonderful night.

Album #48: Legend - Bob Marley
Overall Ranking: 8/10
Favorite song: Get Up, Stand Up
Least favorite song: No Woman, No Cry
First of all, I'd like to begin by saying that Bob Marley's life and legacy are something I admire so deeply. I am not qualified in any way to make meaningful commentary on him or on his music, so I'm basically just going to touch on my favorite parts of the record and such. With that disclaimer out of the way, let's chat about the music.
Legend by Bob Marley and the Wailers is a compilation of Marley's greatest hits and top singles. Released in 1984, Legend has sold 28 million copies worldwide. Marley and the Wailers were pioneers in establishing Reggae both in Jamaica and worldwide and Legend includes Marley's most influential music, such as Redemption Song and Exodus. Reggae music is so unique and incorporates elements from many other styles, including Soul and Mento. There's this dynamic quality to Reggae that allows it not only to produce danceable hits but also to convey powerful messages. My favorite Bob Marley track, Get Up, Stand Up, is still a staple protest anthem and calls for oppressed individuals across the world to fight for the rights that they are being unjustly denied. So many of Marley's greatest hits preach this message, not only of peace, but also of defying the command of oppressive forces. The sound of the album is very much one of rebellion, joy, and peace. To me, Legend is one of those records that must be analyzed with the historical context and legacy of the artist kept closely in mind. You don't necessarily have to love the album, but its artistic and historical value do have to be honored. I personally greatly enjoyed Legend. This was my first time really sitting down with Bob Marley's music in a serious capacity and I think his legacy, as I've stated so many times already, and influence should never be forgotten. As I said, I don't have much to say that hasn't already been said by other, much more qualified individuals so I'll leave this off here. Legend was a treat and I am very excited to continue on to the next album on the list. I hope you all have a great week and I will return soon with another album to chat about. Love y'all, toodle-oo.

Bob marley quotes about life
Tumblr media
That means when me explain things, me explain it in a very simple way that mean if I explain it to a baby, the baby will understand too, you know. I could have born in England, I could have born in America, it make no difference where me born, because there is Babylon everywhere. Wrong is what we call Babylon, wrong things. Me dip on God’s side, the one who create me and cause me to come from black and white. Me don’t dip on the black man’s side, not the white man’s side. Black, blue, pink, green – God make no rules about color only society make rules where my people suffer, and that why we must have redemption and redemption now. If you’re white and you’re wrong, then you’re wrong if you’re black and you’re wrong, you’re wrong. The words of the songs, not the person, is what attracts people. This could be passed through me or anybody. People want to listen to a message, word from Jah. I’ve been here before and will come again, but I’m not going this trip through. If you prejudice, you can’t move, you keep prejudice for years. Bob Marleyģ3. Prejudice is a chain, it can hold you. Devil’s a good friend, too… because when you don’t know him, that’s the time he can mosh you down. The devil come, and me shake hands with the devil. I like to see mankind live together – black, white, Chinese, everyone – that’s all. I only have one thing I really like to see happen. Bob Marleyģ0. If you get down and quarrel everyday, you’re saying prayers to the devil, I say. I mean, you’re supposed to use whatever happen to you as some type of upper, not a downer. You not supposed to feel down over whatever happen to you. You can’t entertain a man who has no food. Hungry people can’t be entertained – or people who are afraid. One love, one heart, Let’s get together and feel alright. I don’t believe in death, neither in flesh nor in spirit. But the heat of the battle is as sweet as the victory. Trust people whose feelings remain the same, even when the time changes. Don’t trust people whose feelings change with time. Better to die fighting for freedom than be a prisoner all the days of your life. No Woman, No Cry, from the album Natty Dread -Bob MarleyĢ2. In this great future, you can’t forget your past. Every time I plant a seed, He say kill it before it grow, he say kill it before they grow. Have no fear for atomic energy, ’cause none of them can stop the time. Love the life you live, live the life you love. Live for yourself and you will live in vain live for others, and you will live again. I will never be a politician or even think political. Every day the bucket a-go a well, one day the bottom a-go drop out. The people who were trying to make this world worse are not taking the day off. Though the road’s been rocky it sure feels good to me. When one door is closed, many more is open. Truth is the light, so you never give up the fight. They say: only the fittest of the fittest shall survive, stay alive! -Bob MarleyĦ. Road of life is rocky and you may stumble too, so while you talk about me, someone else is judging you. When the root is strong, the fruit is sweet. You can’t find the right roads when the streets are paved. When the race gets hard to run. It means you just can’t take the peace. Here are 60 Bob Marley Quotes On truth, opportunities, fear and life.ġ. Apart from music, he was quite famous for his outspoken support for democratic social reforms. He was famous for his distinctive vocal style and became a global symbol of Jamaican music and culture and identity. He is widely known as one of the pioneers of reggae. Robert Nesta Marley (6 February 1945 – ) was a Jamaican singer, songwriter, and musician.

Part 1: In Tribute to Reggae Month
The use of reggae music by choreographers of the National Dance Theatre Company (NDTC) is as old as the music itself. The NDTC, which was founded in 1962 before the flowering of reggae, grew up with the music in its progress from ska to rock steady through to its present manifestation.
Back in 1972, Tommy Pinnock created Desperate Silences, a work which drew on the music of Burning Spear, largely to provide ambiance for the piece, which caught the anguish and dread reality of Kingston inner-city.
Original Dancers (Desperate Silences): Madge Broderick, Monica McGowan, Audley Butler, Tony Wilson, Thomas Pinnock
Tumblr media
Three years prior Pinnock’s experimentations, Rex Nettleford explored the riddim in his All God’s Children (1969) using it for the downtown characters.
Original Dancers (All God’s Children): Yvonne daCosta/Noelle Chutkan (Hostess), Dorothy Fraser, Bridget Casserley, Mavis Stoppi, Andrea Anderson, Barbara Requa, Barry Moncrieffe, Bert Rose, Audley Butler (Uptowners); Dorothy Sanguinetti, Jean Binns, Fredericka Byfield, Tommy Pinnock, Noel Hall, Jackie Guy (Downtowners); Beverly Kitson, Gertrude Sherwood Joyce Campbell Cheryl Ryman, Dennis Scott (Spirits of the Weed)
Tumblr media
By 1973, reggae was in full swing, and the NDTC adopted to the challenge. Rex Nettleford’s Street People (1973) mixed Desmond Dekker’s “Poor Me, Israelites” with Ernie Smith’s “Ben Dung”. The work portrays scenes from the life in the streets of urban Kingston.
Original Dancers (Street People): Jackie Guy (Sufferer); Yvonne Ffrench/Marylin Sanguinetti (Madam Bag-and Pan); Fitzroy Hunt (Bredda Man); Audley Butler (Mr, S-90); Bridget Spaulding, Pansy Hassan (Ladies of the Night); Jean Binns (The Unsaved Girl); Joyce Campbell (Madam Saviour)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
In 1974, Nettleford created Tribute to Cliff, a work dedicated to Jamaican composer and singer, Jimmy Cliff. The music which inspired the work were “Price of Peace”, “On My Life”, “Sitting in Limbo”, and “Many Rivers To Cross”.
Original Dancers (Tribute to Cliff): Bridget Spaulding, Pansy Hassan, Monica McGowan, Andrea Nash, Melanie Graham, Patsy Ricketts, Judith Pennant, Neil Summers, Noelle Chutkan, Bert Rose, Barry Moncrieffe, Jackie Guy, Tony Wilson
Tumblr media
Reggae artists who have provided much musical inspiration in the mid 1970′s included Bob Marley for the critically acclaimed Court of Jah (1975) choreographed by Rex Nettleford and Toots Hibbert‘s compositions for Backlash (1975) also created by Nettleford.
Marley’s “Rebel Music”, “No Woman No Cry” and “Suh Jah Seh” provided the score for Court of Jah. The work won critical acclaim when the NDTC appeared at City Center in New York and later when Clive Thompson Dance Company, based in Staten Island, performed the work at Lincoln Center, NY.
Tumblr media
Backlash utilised “What A Bam Bam” and Toots’ “Christmas Song”. The programme note read:
The gaolers and the gaoled are really all prisoners together. So out of agony of repression and brutality come protest, violence even madness but also individual compassion and hope for redemption...
Original Dancers (Backlash): Rex Nettleford/Michael Richardson, Barry Moncrieffe, Bert Rose, Jackie Guy, Neil Summers, Fitzroy Hunte, Michael Binns, Calvin McDonald, Tony Wilson (as boy with the knife), Noelle Chutkan (Chief Visitor), Joyce Campbell, Barbara Requa, Pansy Hassan, Madge Broderick, Cheryl Ryman, Dorothy Sanguinetti, Gertrude Sherwood, Judy Cunningham, Yvonne Ffrench, Patsy Ricketts, Bridget Spaulding, Monica McGowan, Jean Binns, Melanie Graham, Sandra McLeod, Judith Pennant, Denise Francis, Alison Symes, Pauline Khan
Tumblr media
In 1981, Rex Nettleford turned to Marley’s music “Work” and “Redemption Song” for the dance-satire Rockstone Debate. The work appeared in four movements:
(i) Parliament
(ii) The Stonebreakers
(iii) Redemption
(iv) Hope
Original Dancers (Rockstone Debate): Joyce Campbell, Melanie Graham, Pansy Hassan, Monica McGowan, Sandra Minott, Arlene Richards, Alison Symes, Alaine Grant, Gabrielle Harban, Judith Pennant, Cheryl Ryman, Barry Moncrieffe, Jackie Guy, Samuel Bailey, Duran Hylton, Fitzroy Hunt, Oswald Blackwood, Carson Cumberbatch, Christopher Morrison, Glen Dhyll
Tumblr media
By 1984, Rex Nettleford’s Vibrations had gone full throttle in the rhythms, sounds, and sensibility of the reggae universe. The work drew on the music from Ya Ya — “Hold Fast”, R. Bromfield and Franklyn — “Namibia”, Gregory Isaac's — “Cool Down The Dub” and Papa Levi “Mi God Mi King”.
Original Dancers (Vibrations): Joyce Campbell, Melanie Graham, Judith Pennant, Monica McGowan, Alaine Grant, Sandra Minott, Jacquie Smith, Gabrielle Harban, Arlene Richards, Alison Symes, Denise Robinson, Judy Wedderburn, Carole Murdoch, Paula Monroe, Monica Potts-Lawrence, Sita Dixon, Tony Wilson, Adrian Fletcher, Fitroy Hunt, Christopher Morrison, Delroy Rose, Glenford Brown, Dwight Lee Eisenhower Williams, Monty Williams
Tumblr media
The next major dance-work by the National Dance Theatre Company (NDTC) that utilised reggae music was Children of Mosiah (1987). The work of Bob Marley and Jimmy Cliff dominated the piece, but the choreographer saw others like Burning Spear, Peter Tosh and Mutabaruka. Nettleford’s Children of Mosiah paid tribute to the Rt. Excellent Marcus Mosiah Garvey, and was presented on the Hundredth Anniversary of his birth.
Original Dancers (Children of Mosiah): Joyce Campbell, Monica McGowan, Melanie Graham, Judith Pennant, Alison Symes, Denise Robinson, Sandra Minott, Arlene Richards, Jacquie Smith, Judith Wedderburn, Alaine Grant, Carol Murdock, MoniKa Lawrence, Paula Monroe, Sita Littlewood, Barry Moncrieffe (Narrator), Tony Wilson, Adrian Fletcher, Christopher Morrison, Deroi Rose, Mark Ramsay, Eisenhower Williams, Glen Brown

for sentences from your past life , i heard a lot of “don’t” and “sTOP” like you were trying to keep some rowdy kids in check , i think you were either an educator or an older sibling in a big family .
Tumblr media
i definitely see you making this face a lot
as far as your gf’s thoughts on you , first thing that popped up was “sleep schedule” as im typing this ‘one love’ by bob marley is playing , she really enjoys talking to you , wants to or likes to play with your face , very squishy , do y’all hang out much ? or y’all more virtual ,,,,,, if you don’t send them memes/tweets/tiktoks you should definitely start , they love it , both the content and the fact that you thought to share it with them
Tumblr media
"Terrance if you don't stop now!" A woman throwing her hands down on a table or in the air.
"bud me" flowers and laying down. WTF DOES THIS EVEN MEAN it feels sexual but idk.
"you are like a flower"-"I wish you lived longer." either that or "you'd live." A woman laying down in a field playing a flower in her hand.
Hand on a chest and heart "but you have to let me go." Tears falling from the other person's face "you have to." - "you've no choice but" the other person crying gets angry and clenches their fists to retort "but I can't! I can hold on.." - "let me please.." holding their fists to the other person's chest. I see the internet crying as a boy and the other person a girl or woman passing soon.
"please, don't go." I just see a bunch of pain in this kid's life damn. Cradling. The drop of bowls and plates. Tableware. Running to a woman's side.
"but you're not just another sob story terry/terr!" A girl over a fence. Either this or the boy said it with "I'm" and without the nickname.
"juniper rabbit" idk what that means really I looked it up but nothing I'm reading now, it could be a tree or a name someone called another.
"don't cry son." Whipping tears. "Men don't cry" nahh cry if you want to.
I see the boy kind of fading in a way, bit by bit. He's lived a sad life fit for a novel and movie. (Autocorrected to noble when typing novel?)
"you left me" sitting on a wooden crate box. "I didn't leave you!" A girl yelling. "I didn't leave and you know it."-"I didn't have a choice" clenching again "prove you love me" I think this is mostly a friendship so this could be like him asking her to stay I guess. She left when they were younger or smth. I see her and him being adults now really.
"do your worst" spitting on a face while being held at the neck on the ground. A black woman. She's gorgeous though dam✋😀
"don't touch me" shrugging arm away from a hand to grasp.
"you never deserved my love harry." "But I did." Sympathy lost or in repair.
Let me down slowly by Alec Benjamin came up (could be let me down idk)
"stop! Stop! Stop!" Holding someone back from hitting someone, broken hearts.

If you could put any character into Hetalia what country would they be
Oooo!!
Mexico: OH BOY!! If Mexico isn’t introduced as a woman I will 1000% go bonkers. She has so much potential! Here we go. Mexico is a strong willed woman with curly hair and a confident air around her 24/7. She doesn’t like to speak English so she will only speak Spanish, especially with America, she won’t speak English with him just because. She is very passionate about her country’s rich history and will educate anyone who is interested, she doesn’t discriminate, she’s excited to share her culture with others :) She is very involved with children. She visits orphanages and hospitals to see them and tell them stories! She takes Mexican holidays very seriously and she puts photos of old friends on her alter during Dia de los Muertos to keep their memories alive long after their families are gone, she believes she owes it to them :’) She also has a HUGE passion for quinceneras ooooh my gosh!! She throws about six every year for families who can’t afford big parties, she throws them herself with her own government allowance! She makes the dress, books a nice venue and buys tons of flowers ‘every girl deserves to have her own special moment’ and you can bet that when the girls dance with their dads she has to excuse herself to cry happy tears in the bathroom. She often goes to church and she has crosses and statues of Jesus adorning her house because it makes her feel safe and comforted to have Him there to watch over her. Lastly, she knows she shouldn’t feed stray dogs. She’s been told not to....But she leaves seven dog bowls out at night for hungryc homeless doggies :’)
Azerbaijan: Azerbaijan would be a tall, slender woman with with deep brown eyes. She’s very stylish and has three closets worth of beautiful dresses, especially dresses that are yellow, orange and peach since she thinks they suit her best. She’s a Muslim woman but she doesn’t wear hijabs, they are not very common in her country at all so she doesn’t wear them. However, she has a collection of hijabs in every color just in case she may want to wear one. She’s kind but if she sees people littering or graffiti-ing buildings she will stomp over there and tell them off, she fears no man!! She loves children and goes out of her way to greet them and compliment their clothes or something like that. She’s fluent in many languages and often pretends she doesn’t speak English because she prefers her own language, Russian and French. She is very traditional when it comes to tea culture and hospitality. She’s a wonderful woman who loves her people very much!! :)
Ethiopia: Miss Ethiopia is so strong dude, she can easily toss a man in a river if she wanted to. She says she doesn’t like violence but she does get a kick out of putting men in their place if she has to. She does NOT mess around!!! She can’t stand liars, she refuses to associate with them. She almost always tells the truth, it is very important to her. If the government wants her to lie to her people, she will not. She does not enjoy living in her capital, it’s too stuffy and crowded for her!! And she doesn’t really like modern clothing so she sticks to her traditional clothes, which she mostly makes herself. Her hair is usually very intricate, she spends a long time braiding it. She loves her natural hair and does everything she can to keep it healthy :) She travels all over her country constantly she’s never in one place for too long. She rarely goes to world meetings just because she doesn’t...like to go. She sees them as a waste of time since she could be back at home with her people. She’s very involved with them!! She has a medical license so she helps sick men, women and children who may not have access to medical help. She loves her people so much and has dedicated most of her life to them, she’s selfless and a role model :’)
Greenland: He’s a strong boy who’s about 17-18 physically. He lives close with his citizens and is very social! He’s very involved in the community, more than happy to help whoever needs it! A woman needs help with her baby? He’s there to help! Someone’s stuck out on the water? No worries, he’s gonna go get his boat and help them back to shore! He sticks to where his people are and will move with them. If a city becomes less popular he’ll move to be close to others. When he was young he was alone a lot so staying close to his people is very very important to him! He doesn’t get invited to as many of Nordic events like Iceland does so he’s a bit bitter about that though he’d never admit it.
Jamaica: Miss Jamaica is a very strong woman. She is proud to be Jamaican and will let everybody know it! She goes to church every Sunday and helps out within the church community. Helping the elderly is very important to her, she sees people disregard the elderly a lot in the world so she sees it as her duty to help them! She dedicates Monday and Wednesday afternoons to helping out her elderly friends by cooking, cleaning and just socializing with them especially if they have no other family. It’s stereotypical but she loves when tourists come to Jamaica for Bob Marley’s birthday concert because seeing everyone bond over music and food like that makes her incredibly happy!! She’ll even set up a tent to make food for people too! And speaking of food, she knows how to cook, man!!! She can cook circles around most nations! She puts in a ton of spices and sings while cooking and she invites all of her neighbors over for cook outs as often as she can cause she just!! Loves to cook! And now she gets to share with her neighbors :) She’s a very kind woman but Dont underestimate her cause she can and will beat your ass u_u
Hawaii: I’m not really into statetalia at all but I imagine that Hawaii still has a representation around despite being part of the US. We’ve got another beautiful woman!! She’s about 5’6 with waist length hair that she’s been growing out for years. She is very passionate about conserving Hawaiian traditions so she teaches children the art of hula and passes down legends and stories of the spirits. Her arms and legs are decorated with tribal tattoos that she updates every decade or so since nation bodies reject ink over time. She often attends protests because she doesn’t want her land to be taken over by pipes or buildings. She gladly welcomes tourists, she loves showing off her culture to those who are curious about it because it’s so fun to see their eyes light up when they see traditional dances or fire stunts!
Most of these are women but there are like 4 female nations rn theyre all men which isn’t bad but female nations are even more interesting to me since women are constantly underestimated y’know. I hope I got this right, I did a lot of research first about these places. I think they’re all very beautiful places!!

Zombie Movie: I Am Legend (2007)
“Here’s Karen at the health desk.”
Tumblr media
Karen from the health desk. (Picture: A female news anchor, Karen from the health desk.)
Language warning (sorry kids, but this is an MA15+ movie).
I shit you not, that’s one of the opening quotes of the movies. So, friends and enemies, welcome to the longest review I’ve done of a zombie movie yet. It’s 1:35am here in Australia and I’ve just finished rewatching I Am Legend, everything’s fresh in my mind and I’m hyped up on chocolate.
This movie has incredible tension, a fresh take on the zombie apocalypse, and it’s based on the 1954 novel by Richard Matherson, which inspired the modern day vampire and zombie movies. Why you may ask? Because it popularised the concept of a worldwide apocalypse due to a disease... now I’m beginning to realise that watching zombie movies during a global pandemic maybe wasn’t the best idea I’ve ever had. Any who.
YouTube rewind made me forget how bloody good of an actor Will Smith is, and boy does he deliver in this movie. Robert’s (that his character, btw, though I will probably end up just referring to the character as Will Smith) interactions with Sam the goodest girl in the world (she’s a dog) and the mannequins is incredible.
Tumblr media
The goodest girl in the world. (Picture: A dog (I’m sorry - I don’t know dog breeds! I’m 99% sure she’s a German Shepard) being given a bath and head scratches by Will Smith.)
Now: three things to look forward to in this “review” (assuming you read the spoilery section below). One: how realistic is this apocalypse? Two: there’s a dog. Three: zombie vampires. Vampire zombies?
Tumblr media
Backgrounds details! (Picture: Will Smith opened the fridge. On the fridge door are photos of his wife and daughter, a calendar dated for December, a drawing with “Marley” written in kids handwriting, post-it notes, a pamphlet with the heading “Quarantine”, and a Time Magazine cover of Robert Neville (Will Smith). The title reads (heading) “Saviour?” (sub-heading) “Soldier, Scientist” (body of text) “In a Battle that Could Save Thousands of Lives, Lt. Col. Robert Neville Takes on the XV Virus.”
Also, there’s banging in my house at the moment and when I say I’m peaking. I’m going to need to listen to some music while I write this.
Read on for a fun time! Spoilers ahoy!
Realism (the really relevant part. Yikes)
Okay, so what’s this fresh take on the apocalypse? Basically, this doctor cures cancer and it all goes to shit from there. I’m not 100% on the logistical jump from “destroying cancer cells” to “humans (and animals) becoming bloodthirsty mutants that burn in the sun” - for instance, this is just my sci-fi high-school biology and physics brain working here, cancer is basically a rogue cell that mutates other cells and destroys them in the process, yeah? So if the doctor, like she said, uses these cancer cells to work for the body and in the process “cures” cancer, wouldn’t the humans just... infect each other and the virus would kill the host if it went south? Given, that did happen in like 90% of cases as Will Smith explains, but where does the sunlight allergy come in? Is cancer afraid of UV? Confused, but I digress.
Tumblr media
... Is that my queen, Missy, from Umbrella Academy? (Picture: A woman with blood leaking from her eyes, holding a child and shouting for help.)
The scene where they’re listening to the radio and the guy is like we’re “issuing a military quarantine of New York City” I’m like bitch you wish. Unrealistic. The USA currently (9/10/2020) has the highest cases of COVID-19 in the world (for future historians and poor school children, it’s at 7.68 MILLION cases, no statistic for recovered cases for some weird ass reason, and sadly, 212,000 deaths. For reference, here in Australia we’ve had as of today 27,206 cases, 24,807 recovered and 897 deaths. New Zealand, who went into hard lockdown, had as of today, 1,864 cases, 1,800 recovered, and 25 deaths, with a period where there were 0 new cases for several days.)
Though, with that in mind, everyone going outside and gathering in large crowds? Realistic.
The actual movie part
Praises time! Will Smith has a stockpile of food. Also, him getting Sam (the dog) to eat her vegetables like she’s a little kid? Cutest thing ever.
Tumblr media
Stockpilesss. (Picture: Will Smith wearing an apron and preparing a meal in a kitchen chock full of food items, including things like Pringles and spaghetti sauce.)
Setting alarms on his watch for sunset? Brilliant, smart idea, fantastic. Re-enforced windows and door, AND booby-trapped house? Incredible, genius. Setting traps to catch the zomvamps? (like the dumb name I just came up with? Don’t worry, I’ll reveal the stupid arbitrary name they ACTUALLY came up with later) Talent, intelligence.
Tumblr media
Dude, why wouldn’t you restrain the head/chest? You know, the part that can bite you? (Picture: Will Smith in a lab coat standing over a female zombie-vampire who’s been secured to a metal bench by the wrists and ankles. Medical monitors are connected to her.)
Now, Will Smith is out here looking for a cure. And by looking, I mean actively creating. In a lab. He washes his hands before going in - *chef’s kiss* follow his example - and unlike other zombie movies where it’s super dramatic in the hunt for a cure, this is a lot more chill considering it’s a) been 3 years and b) is more like how science actually works. Trials, tests, animal test-subjects (there is a debate about the ethics of this which I won’t go into here) (I mean a debate in real life not in the zombie movie haha) and human test-subjects.
Tumblr media
“Did you kidnap my girlfriend, bro?” (Picture: bald, pale muscular dude-bro-looking zombie-vampire roaring in rage.)
The mother-fracking zombies
I have to say it: these are the most dumbass looking vampire-zombies. I say vampire-zombies (zomvamps) because they avoid sunlight but also eat people?
Now, unlike most zombie movies, these are really bloody intelligent zomvamps. At one point, after setting a booby trap and catching a zomvamp after stumbling into a nest of them, Robert says “They’re not showing any human social behaviour.” Hahahaha. Okay bitch first of all dude bro screamed when you kidnapped his mate, secondly dude bro has pet dogs, thirdly dude bro fucking caught you in a trap. He took revenge on you there, love. He followed you home!
The zomvamps are apex predators, can climb, run, hunt in packs, communicate with each other, set booby traps, make coordinated attacks, follow you home, learn where you live and remember it, and holy fuck humans had no chance.
Tumblr media
Thank you for clarifying, because I actually found this quite funny. Like, look at him! (Picture: dude-bro zombie-vampire from earlier growling in front of a flaming car. The zombie-vampires are very CGI, pale, fish-person looking things with pale skin and completely bald of hair. This guy is wearing ripped clothes. The caption reads “Growls menacingly”.)
Random things I have in my notes but haven’t mentioned yet (yes I took notes)
What’s with the apocalypse and mannequins? Looking at you, Five (Umbrella Academy).
Tumblr media
(Picture: Will Smith looking at a “female” mannequin, who is dressed in a coat and black bob wig. They’re in a movie store. Funnily enough, behind the mannequin is the “Adult” section of the films.)
I agree with the fuck-that-shit sentiment when you see a mannequin suddenly appear in a different part of the city - like how in the hell??
Tumblr media
(Picture: Will Smith aiming a rifle at a mannequin in an orange jumper. Mannequin is usually located outside of the movie store, yet here it is randomly in the middle of the street at the end of a T-section. There are tall glass windows behind the mannequin, and the window to the right has a giant, gaping pitch black hole in it. It’s presumed that there is a nest of zombie-vampires in there.)
... so is this a booby trap for humans or for zomvamps? Because the former makes sense if that dude bro zomvamp analysed Will Smith’s trap from earlier and remade it (hence dropped the car off a bridge to string him up), and the latter doesn’t really make sense because a) you’ll only catch (and probably kill) one zomvamp and why would you want only one unless you’re Robert and two why tf aren’t you meeting up with Robert he’s been broadcasting and racing around town hunting deer (elk?) in a sports car.
Tumblr media
I’d like to know how hard it actually is to do like a weird sit-up and get yourself free of one of these kinds of traps. Am I dumb for thinking it’s not that hard? (Picture: Will Smith is suspended in the air by a rope tied around his ankle, the result of a booby-trap. He’s struggling to free himself.)
Tumblr media
Come on, you’re literally a doctor and a soldier. Don’t tell me you’re actually considering pulling that out? (Picture: Will Smith has been impaled in the leg by something. It looks like he’s about to attempt to pull it out. He’s in the middle of the street as the sun sets, and Sam is right next to him.)
Sam is a queen. Here are some photos of her.
Tumblr media
(Picture: Robert Neville’s wife carrying a baby Sam - Sam is a puppy, by the way, and very adorable. Neville’s young daughter is walking out of the gate to their house behind her mother.)
Tumblr media
(Picture: Will Smith in a flashback saying goodbye to his wife and daughter and crying. Sam is licking away his tears.)
Tumblr media
Sometimes I hate foreshadowing. (Picture: Will Smith searching a house. He opens a cupboard and there’s a newspaper article with a picture of a zombie-vampire dog. The article reads “Infected dogs can come out at dusk. Stay in the light.” There’s a number to call for questions.)
Worst birthday ever. Now I’m sad and there’s still half the movie left.
Tumblr media
(Picture: Will Smith sitting on the floor of his lab, hugging Sam, who’s just been bitten by infected dogs.)
Get Shrek’d.
Tumblr media
(Picture: The ‘Shrek’ movie playing on the TV in Neville’s house.)
Tumblr media
Ma’am, do you not know how to ration? That is such a waste of food. (Picture: the woman and kid who rescued Will Smith have cooked breakfast. She’s cooked way too many scrambled eggs for two adults and a kid, and all the of the bacon for literally no reason.)
Oh yeah, wanna know what they call the zombies in this movie?
Dark Seekers. They dropped that one on us well into the final half of the movie. Dark Seekers? Really? I won’t get into how dumb that sounds when you had two options to choose from - vampires and zombies. Hell, go with my suggestion of zomvamps, even vampzoms. Dark Seekers? Sorry, I get hung up on dumb zombie-alternative names. Sure, I get the atmosphere might be ruined by calling them vampires or zombies, but not even lying I didn’t realise she said “Dark Seekers” until I turned the CC on to grab a quote. I thought she said “Dog Keepers” hahahaha. “The dog keepers got them.” My defence is that the dude bro did keep dogs.
Finally, wrapping this up at 2:15 before I add in pictures, you’re telling me approximately 100 zomvamps made a coordinated attack on Will Smith’s house to eat... 3 people? That’s like me and a hundred mates descending on the pentagon for a fucking snickers bar. We’d get like an atom each.
Oh, what’s that? They’re here to rescue one person? Really? Really? How in the fuck are they even zombies if their primary purpose isn’t to eat humans. I’m disappointed. But points for a fresh take, at least.
Now one of the things I remember about this movie is that is has an alternate ending. The actual ending (huge spoilers but then again, you’re in the spoiler section) has Will Smith sacrifice himself (read: blow himself and the zomvamps up with a grenade) to defend the cure and save his new friends. The alternate ending, which was scrapped due to negative audience reaction, has Will Smith communicate with the zomvamps who like actually calm down and listen to him. He gives the dude bro back his friend, and... no one dies.
I’m sorry, how is an ending where, sure, a cure isn’t found YET, but, the “villains” of the movie are humanised and a new side of them is seen that shows, hey, maybe there’s another way through this apocalypse, better than an ending where Will Smith dies? Make it make sense test audience. Because, remember, there’s still a whole bunch of immune people living out here, and three of them are currently in the same room. Robert’s only been working on the cure for 3 years. How many years do you reckon it takes to cure cancer? Hint: it’s ongoing in real life. Just because the cure isn’t found in the movie doesn’t mean it won’t be found. Ughhhh. I digress again.
I have more random photos but I am very tired. If anyone’s interested in hearing me roast butterflies, the world not actually ending in 2012, and a missed pun about Until Dawn (even though it was made like ten years after this), and a quick analysis on Robert Neville and God, let me know :)
Have a great day everyone, wash your hands, social distance if possible, and quarantine. Just because the COVID-19 virus isn’t turning us into zombies doesn’t mean it isn’t hurting us.
Worldwide statistics, 9/10/2020: 36.2M total cases, 25.3M recovered, 1.06M deaths.

The Police “Outlandos d’Amour” released 40 years ago today, November 2nd, 1978. Outlandos d’Amour, The Police’s debut album, went to #6 on the UK album chart and to #23 in the US and is considered one of the best debut albums of all-time. It’s an interesting mix of post-punk power pop (“Next to You”, “Peanuts,” “Truth Hits Everybody”) and new-wave tinged reggae (“So Lonely” which Sting has stated was influenced by Bob Marley’s “No Woman, No Cry,” “Roxanne” and “Hole in My Life”). The more mellow reggae-inspired tracks became the singles - and the hits - from the LP, though in each case not upon initial release. “Roxanne,” when first released in April ‘78, didn’t do well but when re-released in ‘79 it went to #12 on the UK charts and became one of the band’s best known songs, eventually inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 2008. The second single from Outlandos d’Amour “Can’t Stand Losing You” suffered the same fate as “Roxanne” upon its initial release in August ‘78 (though it did hit a respectable #42 spot). But after its re-release, also in ‘79, it shot to #2 in the UK. The final single, “So Lonely,” was first released on November 3rd ‘78 and did not chart at all but after the success of both “Roxanne” and “Can’t Stand Losing You,” The Police reissued “So Lonely” in February 1980 when it went to #6 in the UK.
