Been super busy moving house and being ill and birthday stuff BUT I have reworked my character designs into slightly more anime inspired versions!
Knowing me, there will be more fiddling along the way but I am going to start colouring them now. I have put all of their different bits on different layers so I can change their expressions (once I get that far X_X ).
I'm pretty pleased with them for now but I am learning a lot through this process so I will probably spot a billion problems as I continue to work on them. There's always room for more YASSIFICATION!

Dante's Prayer - A Peaky Blinders Story
Tumblr media
It's been a while since I wrote anything regarding the fandoms I used to be active, but thanks to @fortheloveoffanfic I found another one that picked my interest. This is the first part of my Peaky Blinders story, let me know what you think. Like, reblog, comment if you want and let me know if you'd like to be tagged.
Summary:
When the dark wood fell before me And all the paths were overgrown, When the priests of pride say there is no other way I tilled the sorrows of stone.
I did not believe because I could not see Though you came to me in the night, When the dawn seemed forever lost You showed me your love in the light of the stars
- Dante's Prayer by Loreena McKennitt -
Warnings: Mentions of war, mentions of sex, period-typical sexism, canon-typical violence
Words: 1410
Prologue
Outside of Birmingham, 1923
Breathless pants were the only sounds echoing in the silence of the small cottage.
"I missed ya so fookin' much." he mumbled against her back as they tried to catch their breaths and Arthur pulled the sheets over their naked bodies.
Niamh smiled at the sensation of his beard lightly scratching her skin, committing it to memory before he'd leave her again. "It's not my fault, you've been avoiding me."
"I know, I'm sorry." he sighed, running his fingers along the skin of her shoulder and neck. "I'm going to marry Linda."
Swallowing the lump that formed in her throat, the redhead blinked away the tears that were gathering in her eyes, thankful for facing away from the eldest Shelby brother. "I believe this means goodbye then?"
"It doesn't have to be goodbye." Arthur breathed, his lips languidly moving along her spine. "We ain't serious."
Turning her head towards him, Niamh shook her head. "We can't continue this, it was good while it lasted."
"Why not?" he asked, leaning onto his elbow to watch her closely. He had known her since before the war, occasionally having had a tryst under the bridge by the Cut and when he had been drafted he spent three days until his leaving with her, promising to return as the same man that he left but he couldn't keep that promise, just like he never could promise her his heart.
"I'm scared, Arthur." she finally said after a while, her voice vibrating in the quiet air.
Brushing his hair out of his face, he moved his hand closer to her face, his roughened fingers stroking along the column of her throat. "What are you scared of?"
Biting her lip, Niamh put her smaller hand on his own. "Of falling for you, like I'm trying to avoid ever since you have gotten back. You're marrying her and if we continue, you'll only break my heart." Her eyes turned red from the unshed tears she kept at bay the entire time.
"I never promised ye love." Arthur replied gruffly, sitting up on the bed. "I best be going, or else you'd be throwing your heart at me feet."
Pulling the sheets up to her neck, Niamh wordlessly watched him get dressed, feeling the sting of heartbreak in her chest when there had been no love on both ends. Once he had haphazardly thrown on his pants and dress shirt, leaving the vest and suspenders off, Arthur turned one last time, burning the image of his favorite redhead into his mind's eye. Never would he forget the faces she made when he had given her the ecstasy she longed for, knowing he'd not be able to see the same expressions with his soon-to-be-wife.
One last time she watched him nod in goodbye, knowing his head couldn't be turned. The eldest Shelby would have only committed, if - and that was a very big IF - she had been with his child, but Niamh knew how to avoid it as well as he did. Nights in the war could be very cold and lonely so the army had handed out precautions for the soldiers to enjoy their time between the fights. Arthur had told her often enough how his dreams of family and romance had been snuffed out by the brutality of the war, that he would avoid the subject as best as he could, yet here he left her stranded in her cottage by the lake they used to swim in as teenagers, to have a wife and family, probably children along the way.
Arthur climbed inside Tommy's car, taking a deep breath before he screamed out the despair and grief that had been eating away at him ever since he returned from France. Niamh had been a distraction and Linda had given him the hope to get his dreams back, so why did he feel the same sense of loss he had felt when their father had betrayed him and left them again? The noose around his neck was back, tighter than before.
"FUCK!" He hit the steering wheel with such force, that it rattled the whole construction. Arthur needed to let go, he would marry Linda in three weeks and start a new part of his life with her.

“I, Arthur, take thee, Linda, to be my wedded wife, to have and to hold from this day forward, for better for worse, for richer for poorer, in sickness and in health, to love and to cherish, till death do us part, according to God's holy ordinance; and thereto I plight thee my troth.”
“I, Linda, take thee, Arthur, to be my wedded husband, to have and to hold from this day forward, for better for worse, for richer for poorer, in sickness and in health, to love, cherish, and to obey, till death us do part, according to God's holy ordinance; and thereto I give thee my troth.”
The eldest Shelby brother gently took her hand and slipped the golden band onto her left ring finger, repeating after the priest. “With this ring I thee wed, with my body I thee worship, and with all my worldly goods I thee endow: In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost. Amen.”
Linda smiled up at him, her eyes so full of love and shining with happiness that he couldn't help but get infected by her. Returning her smile, Arthur leaned in and gently laid his lips on hers. His brothers cheered, albeit forcing themselves to be happy for him and his new wife. She had brought faith back into his life and would help him achieve his dreams of family and fortune.
When he looked up, at the end of the aisle Arthur thought he saw a flash of red before it disappeared again.
Had she come to witness his wedding? Maybe trying to stop it all together?
But no, he had told her goodbye, told her she wasn't the one for him because unlike Linda, Niamh hadn't changed his way. Hadn't made him see the light in this darkness again. At least that was, what he was trying to tell himself, because buried deep down in the pit of his heart there was a small fire burning for the redhead, that would never be put out, no matter how much water he'd use to kill the flames.
"Come on brother, let's celebrate your union." John called, pulling both Linda and him into a tight hug before he joined his wife Esme and their children on the way to the Garrison where Tommy had prepared the reception. At first Linda had protested, having wanted a proper banquet but she was soon overruled when Arthur told her it was easier that way. She'd have to learn that arguing with his brother or even Aunt Polly was never a good way to live in the Shalby family, it would be more peaceful to just concede and try to be happy about it.
"Come on now, luv, let's get some refreshments before we consummate our wedding and really make it official, ey." the eldest Shelby grinned at his wife, leaning down to swiftly brush her lips with his own, before he grabbed her waist and pulled her along to the pub.
Niamh had been planning to avoid the ceremony, knowing that only heartache would follow but she needed to be there to hear his vows and see his actions. Only then could she try to forget Arthur Shalby and move on, just like he did. No thought had been spared for her when he had repeated the words, giving his ring to her and promising a new life.
During the wedding she had wanted to stop them so many times, but when the final words of their vows had been spoken, she knew it was too late. He now was a married man and she, just a girl, a woman he used to know before he found Linda and her faith.
Taking a deep breath, the redhead hastily brushed a stray tear away and grabbed her bag, leaving the church as fast as possible, yet one pair of eyes followed her, always watchful for the happenings around them, knowing fully well that she hadn't just been there by mistake and trying to piece together what the real reason had been behind her short visit in the house of the Lord.

Any time I need to see your face I just close my eyes and I am taken to a place Where your crystal mind and magenta feelings taken shelter In the base of my spine, sweet like a chica cherry cola
I don't need to try and explain, I just hold on tight And if it happens again, I might move so slightly To the arms and the lips and the face and the human cannonball I need to, I want to
Come stand a little bit closer Breathe in and get a bit higher
Ooh, I want you I don't know if I need you But, ooh, I'd die to find out Ooh, I want you I don't know if I need you But, ooh, I'd die to find out
But a look, then a smell of perfume It's like I'm down on the floor And I don't know what I'm in for

NIALL
My phone had been ringing and beeping constantly in the past hour. Every time I checked, though, it was a new call or message from Mandy and I was desperately trying to avoid talking to her. I knew I wouldn't be able to run away from her for too long but I was determined to at least try. I marked all her text messages as 'read' and got out of my car again, getting inside Lewis' apartment building for the second time on that day.
I felt nervous and I was not sure why, but I kept twisted the insides of my jeans pockets as the elevator moved up. My heart skipped a beat when I glanced at the spot where Devon and I kissed but I swallowed my feelings and quickly walked out of the elevator. It didn't take long for Lewis to open the door and when I walked in, I noticed he had cleaned up everything. I was impressed, especially when I remembered the mess we had made, but I didn't mention it.
"You know you don't have to come visit many times a day, mate." Lewis pointed out before his lips curled. "No need for me to get used to your ass in this apartment, your girlfriend messaged me and said it was too expensive for her."
I wanted to point out that she was not my girlfriend and never would be but the words got stuck in my throat and I decided it was better to ignore it and not fuel the fire. I took my hands off my pockets and passed one in my hair with a sigh.
"Look, Devon really needs a place to stay."
"I thought you'd be happy to keep her with you in your room." Lewis wondered with a frown.
I took a seat on the other couch, close to him and shook my head. "She wants out, okay." I explained, shaking my head slightly before sighing again and leaning my back on the couch. "I mean, she really wants to leave."
Lewis stared at me, frowning slightly more, and finally moved his upper body closer. "That's how much you love her?" he asked in a soft tone, making me shrug. "Enough to let her go?"
"Don't say stupid things."
"No, you say stupid things, Horan." he added a bit louder. "Instead to love her enough to let her go, why don't you love her enough to be honest with her? I've seen the way she's been looking at you. She's literally waiting for you to make a move."
"I've hurt her enough already okay?" I replied a bit rudely. "She wants out and if that's what she wants then that's what she'll get."
This time, Lewis didn't answer but he rolled his eyes at me, letting his back fall on the couch. "You're a fookin' idiot."
"Thanks, I know."
"You let one girl fuck you up, and then you fuck the others. Nice move." he replied again with sarcasm.
"Fine, sue me!" I let out, now getting angry. "I'm just here to ask you to send her a message again, and tell her you'll charge her half of the rent you proposed first."
Lewis raised his eyebrows at me, blinking a few times. I knew he was getting annoyed but I didn't care. "Why would I do that?"
"I'll pay you the other half." I explained, closing my eyes. "But you can't tell her! Ever."
My friend stared at me and I knew he wanted to add something about the girl that broke my heart and fucked me up to the point where I rejected any form of romantic love, but he didn't and I felt grateful for that. It's not like I was not aware that it was not a normal thing. I knew people fell in love, fucked up other people, hurt them, got their heart broken... and started all over again. Most people had this urge and this need to love and be loved, knowing they could get hurt but hoping they won't. I didn't have that need, because I felt like the happy times were not worth the pain. I couldn't lie and say Devon didn't make all my principles falter, but I was trying hard not to do to anything about it, despite how bad I was craving it... how bad I was craving her.
"Propose her a ride to school every morning." Lewis finally said, taking me out of my thoughts. I blinked a few times and frowned before shaking my head. "Seriously, do it." he continued. "If you do that, I'm good with you paying half the rent and not telling her."
I stared at him for a few seconds before looking down. I liked the idea but I was not sure she'd agree to it. I also was pretty convinced it was a bad idea. How could I stop feeling all these things for her if I spent time with her every single day? Anyway, the reason she wanted to move out of our room was because she didn't want to be around me anymore, and picking her up for school every week days sounded counterproductive.
"Why does it matter so much to you?" I finally asked, looking up at him as he got up but totally resigned to do what he asked me to do.
"Because even if you pretend the opposite, it really matters to you." Lewis confessed, making something stir in my stomach. "So, we have a deal?"
I got up too, glancing at the hand he was holding out before looking up in his eyes. I would never tell him, but if Devon agreed to let me give her a ride to school every morning, it would make my heart lighter. As much as I hated to admit it, I took so many decisions with my heart recently that there was no doubt I'd end up in deep shit very soon. Did the fact that Devon was about to move out make me change my mind? Would it turn me into the pathetic human being I was whenever she was near? The same one I used to be around my ex girlfriend right before and even after she broke my heart?
"Deal." I just let out firmly, grabbing his hand and shaking it hard once before letting it go.
"I want my money every saturday and you're the one driving here to give it to me, making it your problem."
"Ever heard of bank transfers?" I asked with a scoff.
"I want it cash."
I knew he just wanted me to come over and I understood why but I was too mentally exhausted to argue and maybe it would also give me the chance to see Devon. I should run away from here and break all the deals I had made with Lewis but I couldn't. I was tired to fight, I was tired to repress everything I was feeling in hope it would disappear.
"Okay, but you don't ask for the money in front of Devon."
"Who do you think I am? An idiot?"
I chuckled but rolled my eyes before nodding, grateful for what he was doing. It was tough to push away someone who made me feel so many things. It felt like every fiber of my body, everyone around me, and even fate and destiny made it impossible for me to stay far from Devon. I knew deep down that I couldn't stay physically away from her forever. It felt like my own body was going to rot or die if she'd stay far, and I knew it was a stupid example but those were the only words I could come up with. Perhaps it was not really that. Perhaps it was just that my heart would stop beating, but either way, I was not ready to let go. Not completely.
I wanted to thank Lewis for everything but just as I was about to, someone knocked at the door, making me jump slightly. I moved away to let Lewis pass but when I heard the voice on the other side, I felt my heart jump in my chest.
"Lewis, are you there?" Mandy's voice let out in a soft tone. "I forgot something last night!"
I placed my hand on Lewis' chest as he walked past me and looked up in his eyes, shaking my head. "I'm not here." I mouthed, making him frown and throw his hands up.
"You're gonna have to face her at some point, right now is perfect." he replied in a whisper, walking up to the door and opening it before I could think of something else to do or a good place to hide.
As soon as her eyes met mine, I pushed my hands in my pockets and her face lighted up.
"Niall, hey, tried to reach you all day!"
"Yea, sorry my.. phone was on silent." I lied, sending her a small smile. "I was about to call you back as soon as I left."
"I just feel very lonely today." she pointed out, sending me puppy eyes as she took a step closer, putting her hand on my chest. "Do you want to sleep in my room tonight?"
My eyes roamed on her face for a few seconds as she gripped my shirt. I knew looking at her should make me feel something, but nothing happened. It was not because I was used to her, or because I had had too much sex encounters with her, no. It was simply because I felt nothing for her and probably never felt anything except lust. The fact that i didn't feel any desire for her anymore was a shock and my lips parted as I blinked a few times.
"I'm busy... tonight." I cleared my throat and took a step back, turning to Lewis to hug him lightly and tell him goodbye. I could feel Mandy's eyes on my back and it suddenly made me feel uncomfortable. When I turned back to her, she raised her eyebrows and I smiled. "Do you need a ride?"
"Yea, thank you! Let me just grab my bra really quick."
I frowned, turning to Lewis who just shrugged as Mandy disappeared in the hall only to reappear a minute of two later as she pushed her bra in her purse. I didn't ask because I didn't want to know and as we left, I glanced at Lewis' phone and moved my chin in its direction. He just nodded and I followed Mandy to the elevator.
I watched as she leaned against the wall in the exact same spot Devon and I had kissed but closed my eyes as images invaded my brain, appearing behind my eyelids like a movie I could never get tired of.
"Are you okay, Niall?"
I got out of my thoughts, trying to push away the thoughts in my head where Devon was straddling me and I was kissing her lips gently after a claustrophobia crisis, to turn to Mandy. "Yea, I'm good."
We walked together until my car and I drove in silence. She put her feet up on the dashboard and I felt my lips curl into a small grimace at how annoyed it made me but when I parked, I turned to her with a serious face.
"Look, Mandy, I think we need a break."
"A break?" she let out before chucking. "Niall, we're not dating."
"I know I just.. I can't do this anymore."
She tilted her head to lean it on the bench before turning her body slightly my way. She sighed low and a sad smile appeared on her lips before she licked them. For some stupid reason, it made me think of Devon. Again.
"It's because of that girl, right?"
"No." I lied, shrugging both shoulders and looking away, making Mandy laugh.
"I didn't even name her and you knew who I was talking about." she pointed out, making me grimace again. "It's okay, Niall, I see how you two look at each other. I didn't think she was your type but hey," she shrugged. "I get it."
I stared at her for a few more seconds, just trying to process what she was saying and when I frowned, she started laughing, rolling her eyes.
"Don't make this face! What did you expect?" she asked, an amused smile spread on her lips. "It's not like I was in love with you or anything!"
Without waiting, she got out of my car and I finally did the same. We walked together near the building and when we were about to part, I turned to her and sent her an uncomfortable smile.
"So... bye?"
She laughed again, shaking her head, and took a step closer. "I'm really gonna miss your ass." she let out, pinching it and making me tense immediately. She got on her tiptoe and pressed her mouth on mine, taking me my surprise, before taking a step back and raising her eyebrows. "Bye!"
I stood there, motionless, a sensation of relief washing over me as some of the stress I wasn't even aware I had disappeared suddenly. I pushed my hands in my pockets and when I turned back to get inside, I noticed Devon not so far from me, staring at me. My lips parted and my heart dropped when I realized she had seen what had just happened with Mandy and I was tempted to tell her it was not what she was thinking but instead, I swallowed my words as she walked closer.
"Your friend Lewis messaged me." she explained, glancing in Mandy's direction before looking back in my eyes.
I looked down at her, my eyes roaming on her face and lingering a bit too long on her lips. Why couldn't I get her off my mind? Why was it so tough for me not to grab her and kiss her right here and right now?
I started thinking about my ex girlfriend and the feelings I had whenever she was near, and it made me realize how different the two emotions were. The way I loved my ex girlfriend was needy, pathetic and ugly. The way I would do anything she wanted just because I was scared she would leave, the way she made me jealous on purpose, or simply did anything she wanted without caring if it would hurt me. I fell in love with someone who used me and it was for that same person that I had given up on love. Even now, after months of her breaking my heart, she still had an impact on me. She was still controlling me without even knowing. I was letting what she did to me ruin my life and I had no idea how to get out of it.
"Oh yea?"
"Mmhm, he said he cut the rent in half, and I think I can afford it."
"Alright." I just said, sending her a small smile.
"You don't seem surprised." she asked with a frown, tilting her head.
"No I mean, I know Lewis, he's cool." I shrugged, sending her a sincerely smile that she slowly sent back.
The way Devon made me feel was different. She made me feel good in a way I was not sure I understood yet. I could relate to her, and even if she didn't talk much about herself, she still let me in, somehow, by allowing me to look at her art and tell her how it made me feel. She allowed me to kiss her whenever I wanted and push her away after, as if she was always ready to give me a chance... a chance that I never had the guts to take. I was just realizing that maybe I was wrong and she was leaving.
"Oh, by the way, one of my friends has a mattress he doesn't need, so if you're interested, I can bring it to Lewis' apartment this week?"
Her eyebrows raised and her lips curled on the right. "Really?"
"Mmhm, oh, and since you don't have a car, I propose a ride to school every morning, how's that?"
This time though, she shook her head. "No, I can't accept that."
"Come on, I drive near there every morning anyway for breakfast, so it's all good."
It was not a complete lie but it was not the whole truth either, but I didn't care.
"No really, I can't."
"So you can accept Lewis cutting half the price of the rent, and a mattress from a guy you don't know, but when it comes to accepting my rides to school, it's too much?" I asked jokingly, a bigger smile on my face.
It made her chuckle and roll her eyes. "Fine!" she gave in, making my heart jump in my chest. "But let me pay you, okay?"
"Okay, but I decide the price." I explained, taking an other step closer. Her body was so close to mine now that if I moved, It could brush against hers. "I want that painting."
"My.. my painting? The one I wanted to throw away?"
"Mmhm," I admitted, nodding gently. "I want you to sign it, and give it to me. In exchange, you get rides and breakfast every mornings of the week."
She shook her head slightly, still smiling, and brought her shoulders up, near her cheeks. It was so endearing I almost kissed her right there.
"Niall, this painting is horrible. It'll never be worth anything."
"Deal?" I asked, ignoring her short rant.
Her traits softened and I brought my hand up, running my thumb on her cheek gently. I didn't know why I was doing that, I didn't know why I felt the need to touch her. All I knew was that feeling her skin against mine brought in me a feeling I was trying so hard to suppress, and I immediately felt the need to write a song. I let my arm fall back on my side, realizing she was not smiling anymore. Her lips were parted and she just nodded very slowly.
I suddenly got scared of everything this could imply. Would I just close off again and hurt her? I knew it was a possibility. I knew I could wake up in the morning realizing my mistake and turning into the cold hearted man I was with her only a few days ago. What would happen, then?
"Okay." she whispered. "Deal."

Showing Off
Burtlederp finally posts some writing, for the first time in fookin’ forever. Enjoy this brief introduction to my new oc Zeke!
“So, you’re magic?”
Zeke sighed, catching the ball he’d been tossing against the wall for the past hour or so. He raised his head, seeing a small face peering over the balcony above. A little girl with black hair, dark skin, and brown eyes watched him curiously. His neighbor, technically, from across the alley. She was a curious thing, he’d seen her often watching him. He hadn’t met her parents besides brief glares cast across the gap whenever they happened to meet each other’s gazes through the windows. He was sure they’d forbidden her from interacting with him, but here she was.
He lowered his head. “Are your parents home?” he inquired tiredly, already suspecting he knew the answer.
“I asked you first; are you actually magic?” she replied immediately. He leaned against the opposite wall, staring up at her. She couldn’t have been older than eight.
“Yes,” he answered after a minute. “I’m magic.”
“You don’t look it.” Zeke raised an eyebrow.
“I don’t?” he prompted.
“No, Momma says magic folk are scary. You ain’t scary. And she said magic folk got all sorts of markings on their skin and they’s got horns. But I don’t see how markings are different from tattoos like Daddy’s and you don’t look like you’s got horns. Do you got horns, mister?” She seemed absolutely unafraid of him.
“No, I don’t have horns,” he affirmed, shaking his head slightly as something like a smile played at his lips. “I do have markings, though.” He tapped the lines on his chin, tipping up his jaw so she could see the ones on his neck as well. She stared at him, gnawing on her bottom lip.
“They don’t seem very scary,” she decided, leaning heavily on her forearms that rested on the balcony railing. “My daddy and my neighbor Mr. Daniels have scarier tattoos than that. Mr. Daniels has a big skull with fire and flowers and naked ladies on his back, I saw it last summer when we’s went swimming at the pool an’ he was babysitting me and my brother.”
“Interesting,” Zeke nodded, not finding it remotely so. She continued to gaze down at him, her brown eyes so intense it made him squirm. The pressing silence didn’t seem to bother her like it did him. Zeke opened his mouth to break the quiet, but she beat him to it.
“How is you magic? Angelo at school says all magic people have super powers, which I think is pretty cool, but Momma says it means y’all are of the Devil.” He shut his mouth, processing that slowly.
“I can teleport,” he answered simply.
“What does that mean?”
“It means I can move from one place to another in an instant, no traveling or walking needed,” he explained patiently. Her face scrunched up as she scrutinized the supposedly-magic man below her.
“I don’t believe you. Do it,” she demanded, and he gaped slightly, taken aback at her tone. “Teleport to Nepal.”
“I can’t go that far. I can only teleport to where this ball goes.” He raised the tennis ball in his hand. She frowned, displeased, and glanced around. She stuck out an arm, pointing at his balcony above him, across from her.
“Teleport onto your balcony,” she ordered. Zeke studied her for a long minute, feeling hesitant. He could do other magic, he’d been practicing the Light spell for a week now with repeated successes, but that’s not what the girl had asked for. She wanted him to teleport, because that’s what he had told her he could do. He didn’t like teleporting very much. Magic spells took energy from him, but not like teleporting did; it left him drained every time. He glanced at his watch. Five o’clock. He could probably get away with a nap before his shift; he could indulge in a bit of showing off.
“Well? Are you lying?” the girl spoke, pulling him from his thoughts. He looked back up at her and sighed, shaking his head. He stepped away from the wall, wound back his arm, and easily tossed the ball straight up, arcing perfectly onto his balcony.
Exactly when the ball was where he wanted it, he was no longer in the alleyway; he was standing on his balcony with his tennis ball in hand, facing away from the girl. He turned around, leaning on the railing as a sudden fatigue hit him, feeling some flicker of humor at the girl’s wide eyes. He looked at her expectantly, waiting for a comment, an answer, a word, even a gasp.
But she didn’t say anything. She turned around and walked inside the apartment, locking the balcony door behind her, and pulling the curtains closed.

“Y/n? Whatever are you doing?”
“Don’t be so daft Thomas, you know exactly what I’m doing.” Her angelic laughter rang through his ears as he smiled a half smile and shook his head at the ground.
“Okay then. May I ask if you need assistance?”
“No Tommy, I’m fine. Thank you though.”
He looked over to the clueless woman. She never really noticed his feelings that grew more obvious over the years. Since they were teens, his heart beat only for her. And now, as she got ready to go visit someone, his mind begged him to tell her. Tell her before she went to see the person, in fear that it was a man she would be meeting up with.
Her kind smile was his reason to live nowadays. Sure, he had others, but he felt she belonged at the top of that list. His sister’s best friend, his family’s favorite person, his childhood friend.
Y/n walked over to the front door and turned. The door was opened, yet she wasn’t walking through it. She raised an eyebrow at Tommy and smiled when he chuckled and walked over to her.
Tommy’s strong arms wrapped around her with a tight hug. A hug that pleaded for her not to let him let go. A hug that pleaded for her to hold onto him forever. All of his hugs that he had given to her were usually filled with that feeling, they had always been.
“Tommy?”
“Hm?”
“You can let go of me bud.” He pulled away and smiled at her a final time. Unknown to her, the way he looked at her that moment was the same he had since they were younger. His eyes met with hers and he drank in her beauty. God he loved her. “Alright, I’ll be back later. Stay safe, Shelby.”
“Okay, see you then. Stay safe, L/n.”
. . .
Thomas’ eyes widened when he saw Ada walking in with Y/n, the h/c haired girl’s arm over the brunette’s shoulder. She was bruised in some places and had a bloody nose. She shivered due to her lack of coat, the dress she wore was torn on the arms and a bit on the legs, revealing a bit more of said bruises.
‘Whoever did this has to pay. I swear it on my life.’ It’s like his eyes were glued to Y/n’s black and blue markings.
“Hurry Tom! I need you to help me get her to the fire!” Tommy awoke from his angered trance and did as instructed. When the three walked into the living room, the rest of the family ran over in a panic. Aside from their worry, they felt the need to get vengeance. Especially Tommy.
“What happened.” His voice was cold. And often, with him using this voice, Y/n was forced to tell the truth. She knew many things about him, many clues and many hints he would give. He had given her a key for his map long ago, and there were times when she needed to use it.
Her teeth clattered before she spoke up. “Well... W-when I left, I wasn’t totally h-honest. I-I told Ada I’d be m-meeting a friend, and t-that was true, but I wasn’t meeting th-them. I was more... r-rescuing.”
Ada brought over a warm cup of tea and a blanket, wrapping the soft material around Y/n and nodding at her quiet “Thank you” before rubbing her friend’s arms softly.
“What do you mean Y/n?”
“Her lover... he um... he did horrible things to her. She had scars and...oh Tommy it was horrible!” Everyone made a quiet gasp when Y/n pushed the blanket off of herself and tackled Tommy into a strong hug. She cried into his chest while he processed what was happening. He then smiled comfortingly and brushed his fingers through her hair.
“It’s alright love, I’m here. Do you need to take a breather?” Y/n nodded and cuddled into him, squeezing his waist just a little tighter. He took it as a sign of her not wanting to let go of him, so instead, he adjusted her a bit so that she was being held bridal style and sat on the couch.
He set her down in his lap lightly, but left her arms around his neck. As much as Tommy wanted to admire the sight of his childhood crush, she needed comforting.
“I went to make him stop...on my own. You guys do it, so I thought I’d be able to...it wasn’t the best idea. I couldn’t fight him... she escaped on time, so that makes me happy.”
“Y/n, show him.” Ada nodded to Tommy with a look of pain.
“Show me what?”
Y/n pushed what was left of her sleeves up and revealed more bruises, tiny crescent claw marks and small cuts. How the bruises got there, was obvious. The markings were from human nails, Tommy guessed that the male tried to prevent her from leaving or moving and grabbed her arm rather harshly, digging his nails into her skin.
As for the cuts? They looked like scratches, but were obviously from some form of knife. The Shelbys (and Grays) knew knives. It was what fueled Tommy the most. But...it also made his heart melt a bit. The woman he loved had been inspired by him and his family so she set out to protect someone she cared about. It went wrong, yet she was still kind of happy for some reason.
“She has more on her legs, but let her wash off and take care of her and she’ll heal soon. Now,” She turned to the rest of her family, “we’ll give you guys some space. Goodbye Y/n, goodbye Tom.”
Now the two were alone. The only sound filling the room was Y/n’s muffled sobs, no longer muffled after Tommy lifted her head and looked in to her eyes. It was in the heat of the moment. Whether she reacted positively or not, he closed his eyes, leaned in, and pressed his lips to hers.
The action was enough to make the girl stop crying. She hesitated a second, but wrapped her arms around his neck and kissed him back. Her emotions were no longer falling from her eyes, they were being shared. Shared with Thomas fucking Shelby.
Had she known he’d kiss her, she would’ve initiated the kiss long ago. Had he known she’d kiss back, he would’ve kissed her the first time he felt the urge to.
Most of their time together was spent cuddling. Switching between kissing and talking, they were happy and finally a couple. Both admitted their feelings, giggling at the fact that they were clueless as teens and as adults.
The moon came out to play for the night, and neither of them were tired. An hour or two was spent on the floor next to the window, admiring the stars as they danced around in the night sky.
“You know what we could do?”
A giggle came from the woman cuddled into his side. “What Tommy?”
“We could dance. Just like the stars.”
She sat up quickly and nodded at her lover. Y/n stood up and pulled Tommy up from the ground with a small grunt and a large amount of giggles. She tripped over the rug and fell forwards into his chest after doing so. Her eyes looked up at his as a blush found it’s way onto her face.
And that’s what they did. Thomas found a record that he loved and put it on the phonograph, smirking at Y/n and walking up to her with his hand extended. They danced to the music. Their eyes connected, and at some point, lips the same.
Boy was he proud of her. Revenge could be served later with an extra side of “By Order Of the Peaky Fookin’ Blinders.” Because right now, in this moment, in the present, happening currently, he was dancing with Y/n. His Y/n. He was not only dancing with her, but healing her in many ways. Her heart, her sadness, and more. They were dancing the pain away.

teenage heartbreak queen (part one)
Tumblr media
based off the song teenage heartbreak queen by palaye royale (🅱️ussy 🅱️op)
warnings: literally major angst, mcr trashing (it pained me to write), language.
summary: dom has been in love with his best friend since before he can remember. when yoi start to change after your boyfriend comes into the picture, will your relationship tear you both apart?
part 2
She used to go
She used to hide and not let me know
the school's power couple. that's what everyone called them. it made dom sick to his stomach to his best friend with that dick head. she was so smart and could tell his emotions in an instant but god was she was so fucking oblivious.
Now I wait
While she's in bed and sleeps all day
(Wake up)
things had changed since they had gotten together. the jock of the school and the infamous introvert. he was the definition of a sterotypical teenage boy--played football, rugby, lacrosse. total asshole energy. you were polar opposites but 'opposites attract.' 'maybe that's why dom didn't get the girl.
she sat in the back of the classroom, band t-shirts and skinny jeans. she was never one for parties, preferring to sit at a cafe and listen to live music.
that all changed when they got together. everyone said they would be together forever. eventually she stopped holding dom's hand when she was nervous or excited. she stopped dancing like crazy when she knew people were staring. it all just stopped.
She used to dance
She used to cry as she held my hand
Oh no we used to say
We won't ever change change change
you went to parties instead of staying home with a record player on like usual. you stopped sleeping at dom's house every friday night. you started to listen to trashy rap.
you weren't the same but your mom had known you still listened to the same punk rock songs in your room late at night. she knew you still read graphic novels in your free time. she also knew you only hid those to keep the relationship healthy. and she had told dom this weeks ago because she knew he could get anxious.
I fell in love with my best friend
She fell in love with you instead
'cause she's a teenage heartbreak queen
Oh it's me and my misery
dom missed the old you. as he bolted out of his last pediod class, swarms of students filled the halls. thursday's were hard at school. he usually just wanted the week to be over and done with, and more than anything he wanted to skip friday's knowing you wouldn't be there with him.
he didn't know when he started to feel things for you. he just knew that as sophomores, he was in love with his best friend.
maybe it started when he moved and you were the first person to talk to him. maybe it was when he fell on the playground in second grade and you cleaned up his cut. maybe it was when he first came to your house in fourth grade and showed him all your band posters on the walls.
I fell in love with my best friend
Now she is sleeping in your bed
'cause she's a teenage heartbreak queen
Now it's me and my misery
dom saw you closing your locker so he ran through the crowd of teenagers and teachers and smiled brightly once he got to you.
"hey n/n!"
"hey dom," she said awkwardly, her boyfriend latching onto her arm. dom's smile slowly faded as he realized you weren't as excited to see him as he was you.
It's not the same
The way she used to say my name
Now she's strange
"wanna come ova' tonight? we can dance to three cheers fo' sweet revenge all night," he laughed knowing it's your favorite mcr album (wink wonk).
he saw you smirk and that small gleam come back to your eye bringing a matching smile to his face.
It's outta hand 'cause something's changed
Something's changed
She used to dance
She used to cry as she held my hand
Oh no we used to say
We won't ever change change change
"i'll be over at si-"
"that lame album? that's some gross emo music. babe, do you really like that shit?"
"i guess not really," you shrugged as you felt a burning pain in your chest as those words slipped your mouth.
"good, cause we're gonna go for a drive tonight." just as he was about to walk away, he leaned down to your ear and whispered, mocking dom's accent just loud enough for him to hear, "and not with pretty lil' london boy."
once he walked off, the look in dom's eyes gave you an aching pain. he swallowed back the lump in his throat, running a hand through his hair, in an attempt for it to look neater but failed as it fell back in front of his eyes.
I fell in love with my best friend
She fell in love with you instead
'cause she's a teenage heartbreak queen
Oh it's me and my misery
"m-maybe some other time," he managed to spit out before turning away from you. you grabbed his hand which always made dom's heart flutter, but this time, he simply looked at your hands and slowly pulled his back to his side.
"we can still hang out tonight. what's the big deal?"
"the big deal is 'm fookin' in love with ya for years and ya don't see how much it kills me every time i see ya with him. he doesn't deserve ya and he's a total twat. the way ya feel when your favorite song comes on the radio is the way i feel whenever i'm around ya," his eyes were glassy but he wiped it away with his sweatshirt sleeve.
I fell in love with my best friend
Now she is sleeping in your bed
'cause she's a teenage heartbreak queen
Now it's me and my misery
"dommy i didn't realize," tears almost fell down your cheeks but you wouldn't let them.
"of course ya didn't! cause you're obsessed with him. when was the last time ya slept over? and don't even get me started. ya love mcr, and because he said it's shit ya suddenly hate em'!"
"that's not why i said it," your voices were slightly raised as the dismissal bell rang out through the hallway.
"then why?" dom screamed.
"because-"
"because why? because ya love him?" he spat. you didn't say anything more. you didn't need to. you simply walked away and out the school doors knowing that your best friend now hated you.
dom stood in the same spot. did i just lose my best friend? she just walked out. a few tears had fallen and he couldn't hold them in. tightening the straps on his backpack, he went out the doors you had been just a few seconds ago and made his way home.
I loved her madly but she went away
I can't believe that she won't see my pain
Though I'm not with her, I have lost my mind
I love her madly 'til the end of time, no
he didn't call that night. he just let whatever happen, happen. everyone had been concerned about you since you had gotten into the relationship.
dom just stared at the ceiling, occasionally humming a song that popped into his head. the sounds of the heater ran through his ears, a scented candle (oops) filling the room.
I fell in love with my best friend
She fell in love with you instead
'cause she's a teenage heartbreak queen
Oh it's me and my misery
his cell phone began to ring and he took a deep breath before answering call.
"'ello?"
"hey. can i come over?"
"uh," dom looked to his right at the bedside clock seeing as it was 10:45 (22:45), "it's late?"
"sorry, i didn't mean to bother you i just--nevermind."
"no, tell me."
"i just need a dom hug."
"come over whenever," he sighed into the phone then hung up.
even in an argument he couldn't have just left you hanging. no matter what he promised himself he wouldn't leave you.
I fell in love with my best friend
Now she is sleeping in your bed
'cause she's a teenage heartbreak queen
Now it's me and my misery
part 2
A/N: hehe cliffhanger. i'll post part 2 when i can! i've had this in my drafts cause the song was stuck in my head for so long. also, sorry this is so angsty.
side note: i'll properly tag it tomorrow.
