I am literally on my knees begging for your trans Izaya headcanons. I will pay you for them I am deadass serious how much do you want please shigaeru please

OKAY SO
Tumblr media
- Izaya figures out pretty early in life and when he meets Shinra in middle school he already has a pretty good passing- Shinra is like "oh yeah hormones are pretty easy to find, I can get some for u". A few years later, he'll be known for home brewing hrt.
- Izaya wears a binder until he meets Shizuo in highschool. Outrunning Shizuo in a binder is Hell. He meets Shizuo and then he goes straight to Shinra like "you have to get rid me of These". Shinra goes Oh I see. (I know what you Are dog pic) Yeah I can definitely do that
-Izaya gets his surgery at Shinra's and has to stay there for a few days because there's no one home to monitor him, and he doesn't want the twins to see him bedridden, but it's the worst few days of his Life. Having to endure the pain AND Shinra 24/24.
- Shizuo chases him around after surgery because Izaya is out too soon. fuck around and find out, Izaya gets major chest pain and has to stop during a fight because OUARGH ARGH
- Shizuo finds out (Shinra probably outs him because he's a sociopath and doesn't see how it's bad to do that and/or just want to see what would happen.) What happens is Izaya is Very Mad at him about it whereas Shizuo SOOOO DOESN'T CARE OH MY GOD
- Shizuo's even a bit angry on Izaya's behalf? Like 'hey that's kind of a shitty thing to do. I wouldn't want you to say private stuff about me to other people what the fuck". And Izaya is. Weirdly touched.
- It's not only that Shizuo doesn't care, he Gets It. Very straightforward logic. It's so evident to him that "you don't feel like a woman? then you're not a woman. You don't have to be one, what the fuck do you want me to tell you?" and Izaya, who hasn't heard anyone say anything like that to him before, feels so much lighter. Shizuo Gets It.
- Izaya's scars look a bit messed up because Shinra did a poor job (he was 15 and had never done it before) and Izaya did not take care of them very well
- He regularly skips injections. it's been a long time he just forgets he's trans sometimes.
- Only Shizuo, Shinra, Celty, the twins, and that mf Shingen know about it

I'm bored, let's keep talking florist Thomas & barista Minho
pt.1
When Thomas finally forces himself to go to Minho's stupid little coffee shop, it is simply to scope out the competition. NOT because he wants to see Minho again.
(Teresa tells him to "go get him" and Thomas scoffs like he doesn't know what she's talking about.)
The first thing Thomas thinks is: there is no way in hell anybody enjoys the sickeningly overpowering smell of artificial raspberry pie
The second thought is: Holy shit.
Minho's either wearing Thomas' flower crown, put the crown on the cash register/sat it on something where he can look at it throughout the day, or has taken a fallen flower from the crown and is wearing it in his hair.
Either way, Thomas can't stop staring.
He watches him bustle around, heating up muffins and grinding coffee beans.
When he starts up the espresso machine, a voice tells Thomas that, now, he must leave. He hates the smell of coffee.
He doesn't move a muscle.

The nonbinary!arya takes with Arya’s “i’m not a lady” quote makes no sense to me. I honestly don’t mind a single hc about any of the starklings’ sexuality or gender identity- but then the way Arya’s feminity is constantly brought into question irks me. I mean, the “i’m a girl” everytime Arya’s mistaken for a boy is Right. There. So there you go, Arya’s peak feminine icon because she firmly states, explicitly even, that she is, in fact, a girl at every opportunity. Bye
See my issue with takes like this will always be that this fandom is obsessed with removing Arya from her girlhood. So while I don't see anything inherently wrong with having the headcanon, most of the time it's coming from the perspective that her being a non-conforming girl in a strict patriarchal society makes her less of a girl. People think they're being progressive and "open" by having this opinion but, like you said, Arya is firmly rooted in her identity as a girl and corrects people on multiple occasions. Like...okay? You think a character constantly masculinized and belittled by fandom for not being a conforming female character is non-binary, congratulations? Meanwhile, female characters who actually toe the line with gender aren't getting the same treatment cause they're either considered too "feminine" or they're associated romantically with a man. It's just so forced, and I'm tired of non-conforming female characters being treated like they're lesser women.

𝐋𝐨𝐯𝐞 𝐚𝐬 𝐑𝐞𝐥𝐢𝐠𝐢𝐨𝐧 . Devotion, that is the name of your love. Your love is an act of worship. Your love is like witnessing the birth of Venus, like seeing the sun come alive, or the stars fall. When you love, it is because you have found God in a lover. You have found the meaning of life itself in the heart of the one you adore. They are everything to you; they are your Maker, and you are their lamb, their flock, their first and holiest worshipper. When you fall in love, it is as a baptism. You are born anew, made a believer in the divinity of the one you love most. Being loved by you is an ascension; it is holy and golden. It is all-consuming, and all-faithful, loyal as the dog. You will never, ever bite back.

The reason I don’t make a lot of very insightful posts about studying characters and the world they’re in is because I don’t know enough about jean everything I have to say about Harry and Kim has already been said I feel like I don’t have as much to say about the student communists because I am a bad communist who hasn’t done any of the required reading (lmao) my only thoughts on the RCM as an institution arent very well-developed (and also are through an American bias of what police are like rather than how they exist in Elysium) and I don’t know fucking. ANYTHING about the innocentic system.
But I sure can tell you a lot about the skills and piss/fuck. Which isn’t actually a lot but boy I can tell you

"even if IS just said she was the villain and needed to be stopped, clear as day, people would reject it." Let's be real: the moment people started using "death of the author" to reject the Nintendo dream interview where IS confirms Supreme Leader is the villain, that's when we should've realized that people have already made up their minds and don't care anymore. It's like telling a flat-earther that the earth is not flat or trying to debunk a conspiracy theory to believers of that theory.
Tbh, I agree sometimes with disregarding the author's intent, especially in some games where the "author" wants to push "feels" and tells the olayer how they should react.
Take Berkut for instance, for a reason I still don't understand, SoV wants to paint him as a tragic figure, who ultimately redeems himself dying. You're supposed to feel bad for Berkut and sad for what happened, to the point where Alm, the Hero - who was challenged on earlier opinions - plainly states Duma is the reason why Berkut turned sour, and no one is here to tell him "uh no sorry to tell you but your cousin was a bona fide asshole".
Ditto for the devs's lunar interview about Clout's story being a "heart-warming story", like no, sorry, no matter how much you push for it, I personally don't think his story is heart warming, rather it's blood boiling.
Does it mean I use the "death of the author" like the people we're talking about?
Yeah, maybe!
But what is more gratting about those people isn't how they use DoA to make up their own canon and story (everyone can make headcanons!), but how they push their headcanon on everyone's lawns and asking for everyone else to treat it as the truth - the Aeneid is the perfect example, people really rec this fanfiction to have a "better understanding" of canon characters, or some people said it understands the characters better than the canon does. For a fanfic, sure, it's cool and all*, but to treat this as canon?
Like, there is no discussion possible between people who argue canon and others who argue using headcanons and imo that's the crux of the discourse bcs FE Fodlan is vague about 70% of its worldbuilding.
I don't like Berkut and believe he toasted Rinea because he loved being Rudolf's heir more than he loved her, but FE15 makes it uwu clear that Berkut apparently loved Rinea a lot and apparently torched her just because Duma promised him power, which makes somehow Duma the reason why Rinea was Bernie'd.
But you won't see me pop up in a discussion about FE15 or people talking about their favourite ships in that game to point out how Berkut burnt his fiancée at stake for "power" on his own volition - canon is canon - even when it blows - I'd rather rant about it and have my own HC in this space rather than piss canon-lovers/users with it.
Saying in your hcs Supreme Leader isn't the villain of the game?
Sure, do whatever you want, have a nice day, eat a sandwich, whatever. Maybe some people will join you, share your sandwich and you'll have fun developping hcs!
Saying in canon Supreme Leader isn't the villain and disregarding the dev's interviews?
That's going to be more problematic, in a way that this specific interview isn't subjective or open to interpretation (thus hcs, like Sylvia being FE4!Claude's relative or not), so people are going to disagree and be more vocal about it.
Some other blogs already explained it, but it seems like FE Fodlan attracted a lot of persons who aren't used to fandom, as in a place with transformative works and where making OCs and fics and having headcanons isn't "BaD" - so they try to retrofit canon in their headcanons because "fanfics" and transformative works are BaD etc etc (insert the general dislike for fanfictions from the early 2000s (?) and the regular/usual insults towards people who write fanfiction from the same era (them being fujos, etc etc)) so they're not writing fanfictions or arguing headcanons, no, they're just writing "totally meta pieces that are better than the canon".
Imo, the second you're disregarding canon to write something about a work, you're writing a fanfic (let it be a "real fic", random hcs, etc etc etc) and that's totally fine! You're not a "fujo degenerate" for not liking the canon and "rewritting" scenes, or building more stories about a character your like!
What's not "fine" is forcing everyone to adopt your headcanons and fanfictions - if the flower is red, you cannot force people to admit the flower is blue, otoh, if you write a story where the flower isn't red but blue, it's your story and you can whatever you want with it! Ditto with fanfic writers when someone argues canon against them, dude, you're reading a story where the author wrote the flower to be blue, like they gaf about the flower's canonical colour to be red - it's a fanfic!
Don't like, Don't read!
*not withstanding with the actual quality and body of the Aeneid, which isn't something I'd personally call cool or "alright", but that's another debate.

Alfred Home Headcanons
Tumblr media
We see Alfred with quite a few houses throughout the series so I think it’s fair to say the man gets around and lives all across the country. It was difficult pinning down just a few for this post and even more so for the photos to go alongside it.
I’m going to be narrowing things down to regions of the United States but I think this man has at least one home in every state. We’ll be here a lifetime if I had to describe his home in Ohio vs Indiana.
We’ll start with New England.
His oldest homes are located here, the most noteworthy is his white colonial home in Massachusetts just outside of Boston overlooking the bay. This is the one he was raised in for a large part of his youth under Arthur’s care and tutorage. Think of the house that we see in the episode of America’s Storage Room Cleaning with the wrap-around porch and expansive garden. It’s an honestly massive home for just one person to be living in. During the mid to late 1800′s when people like Lovino, Tolys, and Morgan came to work in the United States, this was the main residence that Alfred lived with them in. Finally felt a little less lonely.
I think Cape Cod or Georgian is the best fit for the style of house in this region, like, to be more specific.
Traditional accents rather than it being the main focus.
Similarly to Arthur's dust-covered archive of an estate, this is where Alfred stores a lot of his things from the days of old. Unlike his father, he doesn't put much out on display. A couple pieces of memorabilia here and there but for the most part, he's got it in a box shoved in a corner of a room he hasn't opened in half a century.
What once was Sir Lord Kirkland's bedroom when staying in the colonies, has the largest upstairs balcony that looks over the garden and on clear days, out to the harbor. A telescope perched on the railing always on the lookout for father's return home.
I think something of old he does have out on display is a massive quilt he has up and framed in the living room. It's something that took him ages to finish back in the 19th century and the fabric is far too fragile for him to use it practically anymore.
For New York, he lives in a high-rise apartment in Manhattan. Big, open floor plan, and lots of large windows, and it's perfect for entertaining guests. This is his most modern and luxurious residence. Beautiful view of the city and Central Park. Think of the apartment that we see in Hetalia of the Living Dead.
Back in the 20s he 100% had one of those big Gatsby mansions out in the Hamptons and threw parties all of the time but got rid of it all towards the latter half of the decade. Think of the ridiculousness of Mansion Party by Ninja Sex Party
The last one for this area will be the brick row house in West Philadelphia. This is likely his second oldest home and where he spent a lot of his time during the Revolution. This is where he feels like where he was really born as a nation so he has a lot of deep ties here.
I want to give him an attic bedroom with a desk by the window that can see the steeple of Christ Church near the Delaware River. The same desk he's written pamphlets for the Revolution, letters to his brother, and for even a time, a typewriter when he was feeling a resurgence of literature and poetry in the early 20th century is still there.
I don't which state exactly has that beautiful blue suburban with the big pool. Somewhere there's not a lot of snow year-round and gets those hot summers where all you want to do is submerge yourself in water. Somewhere in the South, I'm thinking either one of the Carolinas or Georgia.
He feels like the type of person to have ranches all across the central US. Most of the year he has other people working on them to take care of the animals.
The one he frequents the most is the working cattle ranch in Arizona.
Time capsule midcentury house out in the Midwest. I want to say somewhere in the Chicago area. I want to put it in Southern California where this style of house first started to get popular but going to give some love to other parts of the country.
Floor-to-ceiling windows, a sunk-in living room pit, short staircases connecting rooms throughout the house, partial brick walls, fireplaces centered in rooms, and several doors and windows to access the outdoor living space.
If you've been on my blog for a while then you might have noticed I love making Alfred a California Beach Boy. I can give him so many houses in just this state alone but I'll keep it short and sweet.
His bum-out beach cottage is located in Santa Monica and he's been located there since the 1890s. The house itself has been remodeled and updated several times over the past century. The materials he uses for the house as well as the layout stay fairly consistent, with lots of natural, light wood and open space to allow in lots of sunlight and central airflow. It's also a small space; you open that front door and right away you can already see the living room, kitchen, dining room, and out to the ocean out back. The entryway is the house.
It's almost purposely made so you can see the wear on the floors and furniture. If he drops a surfboard on the floor and there's some damage left behind, he'll leave it there. You can see the wood frames have been handmade and have some flaws and mistakes if you run a hand over them.
It's also very analog with most of the tech in the house dating to maybe the mid-90s at the latest: VHS and record player, rotary phone, etc. No AC either but he does have a great internet connection.
If I cannot fulfill my lifelong dream of having a colorfully painted Victorian house in San Francisco then Alfred can have one. I think he spent a lot of time in the 80s in the Bay Area and this old house was just a constant project of fixing up and refurbishing.
Okay, the last one I'll talk about for the time being will be his house up in Washington State.
I just really love Contemporary houses and Alfred had one built for him when they first started gaining popularity in the Pacific Northwest in 1935. Large windows invite the beauty of the region into the house while complementing the natural landscape. The Pacific Northwest features steep, rugged terrain that encourages post and beam architecture.
Tucked away in cozy woods and nestled along a majestic river.
Decor often brings nature indoors using live-edge wooden furniture, stone and wooden accents, and other cozy touches.
I don't see Alfred as being a big log cabin person but incorporate the coziness of one into this house. Place that Twilight filter on and it's his most aesthetic getaway.

where do you hold your love?
Tumblr media
IN YOUR HEART.
you hold your love in your heart. love is intrinsic, inevitable, love is the beating core of everything; love is also hard to talk about. your love comes out with more rareness, mostly shows up for the big things in a big way- this doesn't mean it doesn't beat for the small stuff, you feel it all, in fact you feel it more intensely than most which is why it's so hard to get out. you hold your love inside you because it matters, it might be the only thing that does.

i love that riptide takes the form of a fountain pen in pjo so what mundane ass objects do gungnir and fragarach look like when idle? 🤔
fun fact: lexa calls fragarach 'fraggle rock' and upon hearing this, cú chulainn has never put his head in his hands faster.

Got really deep into writing ideas for a potential Animal Crossing sequel.
The working subtitle is "Set Sail". The gist of the "main story" is that you are an employee of Nook Inc. that got shipwrecked on a deserted island, except "Oh wait, it's not actually deserted."
There *used* to be a town here, but after a natural disaster struck, the original mayor disappeared and the remaining villagers got displaced, so it's up to you to rebuild the town and bring the community back together. The key theme of this entry is: "Connections."
I have a lot of ideas for it, and maybe I'll share them in time, but that's what's been on my mind lately.

a bit obsessed with the idea of kusakabe dying as a form of sacrifice to specifically protect/save somebody else. it's consistent enough with the theme of the past generation achieving no meaningful feats against significant threats but it's also ironic enough that someone without a technique and who claims their philosophy is primarily self-sacrificial - although he tends to stay from his own ideals in critical moments, proving he's not only brave when necessary but he does have a sense of responsabilty and guilt - ultimately redeems themselves through death resulting in the achievement of something his colleagues have failed to do. not that i'm wishing for him to die, i hope he doesn't. but it would also make a clear-cut distinction between him and a character like mei mei, who narratively serves a very similar purpose (besides her being a foil to nanami). to have someone be awarded by their selfishness just for it to not be worth much within a world and system that runs and sustains itself due to the sorcerer's labour power, whose only means of subsistence is to sell themselves away. a class of people who is doomed no matter what path they choose to take, as long as they do not break free from their duties and as long as the system doesn't collapse. a death that could serve as a symbol of punishment towards solidarity and altruism but a win for revolution.
#okay gege came for me when i said i didn't like kusakabe and now i'm thinking so much about him and his purpose in the story#why would he go against his own ideal and what is his purpose besides introducing questions like 'is self sacrifice noble?' you know?#so that got me thinking about him dying or suffering a big loss and how that would consolidate his character in my eyes#unless his purpose is completely different and i'm just deeply misreading the situation#if his purpose is to simply highlight personal choices and free will vs his generation's dogma#then i suppose him dying could serve no purpose but i'm not finding that side of the coin very straightforward or totally compelling#but again i feel like i'm failing to read him so maybe it is skill issue#anyway obsessed with kusakabe today awkkajwkaj feeling personally attacked by this twisted chain of events#gege really came for my ass after i was vocal about my kusakabe hate (which i feel like is dead at this point rip 🕊️)#which by the way is so mean. god forbid a bisexual do anything 😔 why can't i be a hater man?#also don't take this post seriously it's more about my mediocre reading of his character and my headcanons/wishes than a theory#i'm not trying to imply he will die or that there is narrative purpose in that#just that it makes sense in my brain if that's the case and the plan gege has for his character#but also he's literally the info dumpster gege probably wouldn't kill him because who will explain things to us 😂#he's like our amateur narrator i bet that gives him total plot armour#ps. maybe this is just my zero braincells moment#i just hate that i don't get it like i want to understand why he exists#but i'm aware that maybe this is a me thing and maybe everyone else just get it#and that makes me feel like that meme#let me iiiinnnn#okay bye

ooc ; thinking about the fact that, in-game, the Triforce isn't really shown the same as before, but rather more like symbols of the kingdom and almost uniquely to Zelda's power. Also thinking about Link, in fact, not being shown to be the wielder of the Triforce of Courage.
Thinking about how easily I could write the concept of the Triforce of Courage as being dormant in Link, waiting for the right time, when he needs it, to make itself known - perhaps in a moment where his courage falters, when he loses hope, believes that he's truly failed Princess, Kingdom, and friends alike, and that's when it shines through.
Because blah blah blah "courage is facing your fears" and Link's not really shown in-game to be scared and I am a writer and unstoppable.

side effects of the flaying. . .
most of these are tentative headcanons for my general portrayal,  and pretty much all of them are post season 2 and effects put in motion as a result of being the mind flayer’s host.     in no way or shape will i ever find anyone’s excitement over the idea of will having powers in canon or headcanon as a bad thing,  i am just personally attached to these vague abilities of his being more canon compliant as a residue of his experiences with the upsidedown and as the mind flayer’s host,  nothing more.
most of these were written pre - season 4,  and likewise most are barely relevant after the byers move to california for reasons i’ll get into,  but i figured i’d post it for old time’s sake and because it is a big element of will’s lasting trauma with the upsidedown,  even outside of pure ptsd.
          𝚃𝚁𝚄𝙴  𝚂𝙸𝙶𝙷𝚃
while what’s described of will’s extra sense in season 3 is fairly similar to will’s   ‘  now-memories  ’   in season 2,  they’re not quite as distinct as the constant influx of information that came along with being its host.     after it vacates him,  he loses the clarity of these things,  but he doesn’t lose the concept of true sight he’d had before even being possessed in the first place   [  think will’s intermittent hallucinations of the upsidedown for upwards of 10 months before it even possesses him in the football field  ].     however,  it stops happening as often when he’s awake and instead,  when he sleeps.     he dreams often of the upsidedown in what would be an actual live feed of that dimension,  but it’s impossible for will to tell the difference between a memory  /  nightmare of the upsidedown and actually seeing into the dimension unless it’s undeniably obvious in either direction.     nightmares are easy to discern if they contain purely fictional elements,  such as deceased persons making an appearance,  or hybridized re - experiences of traumatic events that already happened.     regardless of which are which,  they both lead to regular sleepwalking,  but he’s much more likely to do this when seeing through the veil into the upsidedown,  unbeknownst to him .
along the same vein,  will has a very slight and general sense of the upsidedown,  though it could be mistaken for a negative association with hawkins as a whole due to the two overlaying each other,  as he’s used to associating negative feelings  /  sensations to the town anyway.     this is more of a side note,  as it manifests simply as a sensitivity to places where doorways have opened before,  such as in the forest where nancy briefly crossed into the other in season 1,  or the lab itself,  etc.
          𝚃𝙴𝙼𝙿𝙴𝚁𝙰𝚃𝚄𝚁𝙴  𝚂𝙴𝙽𝚂𝙸𝚃𝙸𝚅𝙸𝚃𝚈
i plan on writing a separate headcanon on will’s experiences with temperature even after just his first experience with the upsidedown,  but after his time as the mind flayer’s host,  his body is much more sensitive to the heat than before.     cooler temperatures are subconsciously more comfortable,  even if in extremes it can be somewhat triggering.     he actively combats this new acclimation for the cold,  ignores it even to the point of confronting the box of trauma he has tied to hot temperatures as well,  ever since a bunch of soldiers aimed flamethrowers at an extension of him and pulled the triggers.     he searches out the warmth almost as a means of purging himself,  a need to make sure he’s truly rid of any and all remnants of the mind flayer and its hold on him.     summer easily becomes his favorite season in contrast to autumn and winter,  the cusp of seasons in which he first got swallowed into the upsidedown to begin with.
          𝙿𝚂𝚈𝙲𝙷𝙸𝙲  𝙳𝚁𝙰𝚆𝙸𝙽𝙶
as we’ve seen,  along with will having a general affinity for art,  he’s used it as a means to describe the indescribable and infuse a lot of his trauma into.     will draws as a form of coping and expression where the medium of words can feel too overwhelming or vulnerable.     it’s usually abstract,  masses of color,  greens and blues and grays and reds,  lots of silhouettes,  but a lot of memories that aren’t really his come up on paper.     usually technically incorrect,  as far as actual depiction of events go due to him experiencing the things the mind flayer did to a more secondhand degree,  but they definitely show themselves a lot,  whether he’s aware that’s what they are or not.     he draws soldiers getting overwhelmed by a hoard of demodogs,  more tangles of vines outstretched throughout the town like a disease,  the hungry swarm after jane and jim as they tried to close the gate.     after season 3,  he likewise pens a lot of the flayed and their entire journey of decimation.     as times goes on,  though,  his art becomes more loosely correlated   [  despite his best efforts  ].     a landscape drawing will feature flowers that look a little too much like the face of a demogorgon,  flecks of snow more like ash,  lighting set instinctively low and grim in a way he doesn’t even realize until the piece is done.
he does at times purposefully draw his own interpretation of things to simply process,  but half the time,  he’s channeling what his awareness as a host could pick up of the mind flayer’s destruction,  as well as the upsidedown itself,  without truly meaning to.

most of will’s connection to the mind flayer is vague,  to say the least,  and often hard to put into words.     a lot of it’s like trying to describe a dream  ;  all the specifics are elusive when the time comes to voice them,  even if you remember vividly what it looked  /  felt like at the time.     it’s there,  but far in the back of his mind.     it’s more of an intuition than anything,  a foggy impression,  sensations,  thoughts,  images,  as if when the flayer comes to a conclusion in its mind in any given scenario,  will picks up on that even if he can’t determine what lead up to the conclusion on the other end.     it’s easier for him to notice if the flayer is having a more intense or extensive experience, such as when it re - encounters jane and exhibits some of the first signs of genuine fear we’ve seen from it.     while left only vaguely alluded to in canon,  my portrayal of will was aware   [  though to a much lesser extent  ]   of when the mind flayer would possess someone new,  or liquefy them.     however,  he wouldn't be able to tell you that’s what he’s feeling,  as it would be a distant sensation of something like expansion,  almost like the flayer was stretching out,  or a deep sinking feeling.     as per canon,  any time will picks up on the flayer’s presence  /  actions,  it prompts very unpleasant feelings of anxiety in varying degrees and is often accompanied by goosebumps and other symptoms of general anxiety,  such as nausea,  tremors  /  trembling,  lightheadedness,  depersonalization  /  derealization,  though it’s unclear which are from his connection to the mind flayer and which are just a part of his own ptsd.
tangentially experiencing the mind flayer’s death   [  ?  pretty sure it’s just the extension of itself stuck in hawkins that was cut off from its source like a puppet cut from its strings  ]   was a unique sensation of both boneless relief and as though his soul had just been vacuumed straight from his body down to the last atom before being bungeed back in again.

moving to california is a mixed bag for will.     on one hand,  he wouldn’t have even noticed his general sense of unease living in hawkins until they’ve crossed the first state line.     once they’re fully settled in their new home,  the air itself feels lighter,  every minute detail unburdened by the constant awareness of an overlay of rot and sickness just beyond the veil,  right around the corner where another gate might rip its way into their universe.     he’d gotten so desensitized to it in just 2 years without even realizing.     and yet,  on the other hand,  he’s more alone than he’s been since kindergarten.     stuck an arms length away from every single person around him that’s unaware of what’s happened to him and all of hawkins,  indiana ;   a gap that’s impossible to bridge,  and he was already a bit of a loner to begin with.     he’s beyond grateful to at least have jane as a peer,  but he’s also the one member of the party least acquainted with her,  as well as constantly battling the mess of dual jealousy and indebtedness he feels toward her.     everything feels unfamiliar and disorienting,  which is the last thing his psyche needs after the last 2 years he’s had,  and yet it’s also undeniably easier in lenora,  just to wake up in the morning and go to sleep at night,  just to breathe.     the sleepwalking lessens,  episodes grow further apart,  and jagged petals stop sneaking their way onto his canvases,   the everpresent californian sun driving all the darkness away.    it can’t reach the very roots of him,  but it feels like a near thing.     after a good few months,  it’s almost easy to fool himself into thinking he’s forgotten what it felt like to be aware of the mind flayer’s presence at all.
