Openly LGBTQIA+ Celebrities
These are celebrities who have recently come out as LGBTQIA+ or whom I’ve recently learned about or whom I hadn’t mentioned in previous posts of this type. Needless to say, this list is highly arbitrary and incomplete.
Scott Bova (football official)
Bruno Camurati (musician)
Peter Caruth (athlete)
Tashi Choden (model)
Kit Connor (actor)
Monica Contrafatto (athlete)
Elizabeth Corrigan (TV personality)
Emanuele Crialese (director)
Søren Dahl (athlete)
Heath Davis (athlete)
Continuing the tradition from my old blog (which has been unceremoniously deleted by tumblr without much of an explanation why) I’m doing daily posts during June to celebrate LGBTQIA+ pride by showcasing openly LGBTQIA+ celebrities and various content about or created by LGBTQIA+ people such as music videos, characters on TV shows, movie trailers, …

Ngomos D ft. Dechen Uden Lama 「DEYI RA」 Music Video

Sadness
The next day I found out way jack never returned. For he had fallen and his body never found. I should know I was there hearing the search for love’s body but it mysteriously disappeared under that snow. I had know one to go back too but in stead just thubetan. Removing from a miscarriage and the loss of jack…. I went to the monastery looking for thubetan.
When I found him I told him that I lost jack, he hugged me then deeply kissed me. He suggested that I become a nun (Buddhist) and be his consort. I agreed to it. After my head was shaved and my name changed from Alex to Choden Tashi. I didn’t know I was supposed to be elated or horrified.
Thubetan took me to his bed chambers and started to make his move on me. At first his touch made my skin crawl even though he was older than jack.
I had to get used to this.
“Choden I will not hurt you” he said in semi broken English. “ I have been lived to be with you again Choden.”
“Really”
“Yes, ri.”
His touch was creepy I soon grew use to it. At first making love with thubetan was a creepy affair now. In my heart I new that jack was still around but did want to be found. Just the though of it made me want to cry. Did HE run off with a Buddhist nun out of revenge. Just that broke my heart.
Then I heard “forget him” it was Thubetan.
I was an unwilling consort and an even more unwilling nun.

Honeygiver Among the Dogs (2016) Dechen Roder 01-10-2017 Decent detective mystery. Moves a little too slow and not that gripping compared to the better mystery films.

Honeygiver Among the Dogs
In Dechen Roder's debut feature, Munmo Tashi Khyidron, Honeygiver Among the Dogs, the mountains and the surrounding hills that we see on screen are robbed of their panoramic grandeur. The ranges are restricted and eclipsed by clouds that fog, mystify, shadow and deceive. And it's not just landscape that is constricted in the film. A Thimphu based young police officer dispatched to a bucolic but eerie village to investigate a missing person struggles to piece together the strands of clues, portals, odds, opportunities and obstacles that are thrown at him. Actor Jamyang Jamtsho Wangchuk confidently renders the role of Kinley the imperturbable police officer camouflaging the flaws of being trapped in a linear world laced with cynicism. This weakness of the male lead is exploited to underscore the transcendence personified by the female lead Choden delivered brilliantly by Sonam Tashi Choden. Dechen Roder uses the cinematographic forte of Jigme Tenzing to show us lush monsoon washed mountains of Trongsa that could have looked salubrious but instead emit an incarcerating energy. Once out of the natural jungle, we enter the concrete one only to enter narrow alleyways that appear to burst with answers but lead characters and viewers alike on a samsaric rabbit hole. Choden is suspect but not on the run. Kinley is the cool cop only to lose it in the spellbinding presence of Choden. If the villagers sway under the power of extremities and passion to see Choden as a demoness and a harbinger of bad luck, Kinley is no study in balance. As Kinley encounters the cleansing power of the feminine and the spiritual personified in Choden, Dechen Roder uses hypnotic dream sequences and the wisdom infused stories narrated by Choden to Kinley to transport us to a realm that is magical and realistic. In telling the story of Munmo Tashi Khyidron, director Dechen Roder harvests the complex but opulent field of Bhutan's intact and vibrant Vajrayana tradition. At two screenings here in Thimphu, I had trouble hearing the dialogues several times thanks to viewers around me who provided on the fly dissections, commentaries and compliments as they relished the cinematic rendering of a distinctly Vajrayana account with multiple strands that make the narrative intricate and mesmerizing. While acclaim must be given for the original and creative background score of Honeygiver, there are parts where the absence of it could have made the experience more meditative and introspective. Writing for The Hollywood Reporter, Clarence Tsui described Honeygiver as beautiful and inventive. Coming from an internationally renowned and respected critic, it is a big deal for Bhutanese cinema. And judging by the positive reactions of the Bhutanese audience at the screenings that I was at, Bhutanese cinema or cinemagoers to be precise, do not mind originality and creativity.

'Tsunami' of homeless older women something 'we should have seen coming' – The New Daily
Pip Rose could not face a day without her little dog and companion Harvey, but accommodating him in affordable rental accommodation in Canberra has proved far from easy.
Earlier this year she became unemployed and fell behind on rent and debt repayments. But her story is not unusual.
At a solutions-based workshop in Canberra, expert Andrea Sharam said Ms Rose was part of the “tsunami” of middle-aged women facing housing stress and homelessness, that Australia’s governments “should have seen coming”.
Dr Sharam said real solutions, like assigning housing for older women – in a scheme similar to Defence Housing – or converting old office blocks into temporary accommodation were some of the immediate measures governments could take.
“It was my lowest point because I knew I just did not have the money,” Ms Rose said. “I have got to admit it was a scary place to be.”
“Seriously, where can I rent in the private market? Because nobody’s going to give me a place without a job, that’s the reality.”

The 53-year-old came close to sleeping in her car on numerous occasions, because the majority of private rentals are not pet friendly — something recently changed in Victoria’s rental laws.
“[Harvey] is the one that got me out of the house when I was at my really low point,” she said.
“So it was going to be putting my stuff into storage and sleeping in the car with the dog and cat.”
Ms Rose’s church and her brother ended up coming to her rescue by covering her debt and finding her a place to live.
“I never expected it … it just blew me away,” she said.
“You just don’t ask for help, that’s how I grew up. That’s us women in my generation anyway – you just take a deep breath and deal with it.”
She has since found a job, but her current tenancy on her small unit expires in February. And finding another place to live is proving challenging.
“That’s our biggest problem, finding affordable housing,” she said.
“We need a place that we can be safe and be part of the community.”
‘It’s rough-sleeping, it’s couch surfing’
Penny Leemhuis battled insecure accommodation in Victoria, the ACT and New South Wales before finding an affordable rental in Queanbeyan.
The 12-year housing struggle prompted her to become an advocate for single women aged 45 and above who are relying on private rental accommodation into retirement.
“If we don’t address this situation now, not only will the numbers of women escalate, this will affect every generation that is coming up in the decades to follow and it needs to stop now,” Ms Leemhuis said.

She recently shared her experiences as part of a new documentary, OWL: The Face of Homelessness, by Melbourne student Tashi Choden.
“There is a great misconception amongst the general public about homelessness and what that actually entails,” Ms Leemhuis said.
“It is rough-sleeping, it is couch surfing and it is insecure, untenable arrangements for accommodation.”
Ms Leemhuis said there were solutions to issues surrounding homelessness that were not being implemented.
“My experience has taught me that life, in some ways, is a battle and that is very sad because it doesn’t have to be that way,” she said.
‘Outcome of social change we should have seen coming’
Ms Leemhuis and Ms Rose were among the women who met with support services, academics and politicians at a solutions-based workshop in Canberra last week.
At the end of the meeting a handful of solutions were put forward, including creating a national social head-leasing scheme — similar to Defence Housing, converting vacant office blocks into social housing, placing transportable units on vacant land and reforming tenancy law to allow companion animals.
“We have a manmade problem and we could undo that problem if we chose,” Dr Sharam said.
She said older women are requiring social housing assistance into retirement and she said governments needed to reallocate existing affordable housing.
“We do have a tsunami of older women,” she said.
“It is an outcome of social change which we should have been able to see coming.
“Our governments in Australia have been very slow to react to the decline in housing affordability, the decline in home ownership and the need for housing assistance.”
Federal Assistant Minister for Social Services Zed Seselja said there was money available – $375 million over a four-year period – and that states and territories should negotiate with governments for a share in the funding.
