Top 5 fucked up things that happend in Naruto?
This lived in my drafts for quite a while as I went back and forth with just a top five. I don't think this is in any particular order, because good god these people have suffered. Also, please note that I haven't read or watched Boruto and know nothing about it, so whatever atrocities occur there are mysteries to me.
That time Rin committed suicide by jumping into Kakashi's Chidori, then everyone started calling him Friend Killer Kakashi and even he believes he murdered his teammate in cold blood for the good of the village.
When Minato decided to make his minutes-old son the Kyuubi container and then swiftly leave him as an orphan, and Hiruzen thought the best thing to do would be to let the village terrorize him and leave him without the protection of his powerful, beloved parents' legacies.
Nagato going off the deep end after Yahiko got murdered and deciding to use his dead bestie's body as one of his paths, forcing Konan (who may or may not have been romantically linked with Yahiko, but at the very least was another childhood best friend) to interact with his corpse for years to come as Nagato's real body rotted in the basement.
Orochimaru's whole child experimentation/abduction/murder/body snatching extravaganza is just...horrific. He truly is a plague upon the elemental nations, and I believe if Tobirama were Hokage when Orochimaru started to get weird, he would have been put down like a mad dog. Maybe Minato would have tried to do it had he lived long enough, too.
You can't have a list of fucked up Naruto things without mentioning the obvious Uchiha massacre. Village-sanctioned genocide perpetuated by a 13-year-old family member and his insane cousin masquerading as their equally-insane ancestor is some dark shit, and that's not even getting to the other related factors (re: eyeball snatching, the Sasuke of it all, Divine Intervention via moon goddess planting the seeds of it happening at all).

yeah Itachi's story is tragic. You know what would have made it more tragic? Imagine if after killing his family he found out that the entire coup was a lie. That there never was coup. Can you imagine how he would feel if that happened?
That's what itachi did to Sasuke.
Like Itachi, Sasuke also had to live with the knowledge that he killed his family. Like Itachi, Sasuke was manipulated and pushed into a corner to do it. But at least Itachi didn't have to live with finding out everything was a lie. Not that Itachi could live with what he did. Itachi took the cowards way out and used Sasuke to die. And then he just expected Sasuke to live with it. Itachi really took his pain, doubled it, and handed it to Sasuke. And Sasuke, who thought he'd finally be free to live his life with Itachi gone, now found out that not only was he not free, he was left holding an even bigger burden for his family. And Sasuke didn't have a way out. There wasn't a convenient younger brother to pawn it off to. Not that sasuke would have ever done what Itachi did to him to someone else.
You can argue trying to provoke Naruto into killing him at the bridge fight is similar. But the whole reason Sasuke did it is because he doesn't believe Naruto and the rest of team 7 actually care about him or his family. A belief reinforced by the fact that 2 of the three actually were trying to kill him. Also different is that Sasuke really was ready to engage in a real fight, he wasn't just trying to manipulate Naruto and put on a show. Sasuke has more integrity than Itachi and Sasuke values free will. That's the difference between Itachi and Sasuke. Itachi was an ego-centric Machiavellian who doesn't see his own hypocrisy, and Sasuke is a really good, decent person put through the worst circumstances you can imagine who is trying to hold onto his humanity.

Sparked by a Tumblr hashtag fest:
Who's to say Itachi didn't lie to himself about his parents' peaceful surrender and comforting words until he believed it himself and passed that illusion on to Sasuke? The official version was all Itachi's flashbacks, not Sasuke's.
Sasuke originally heard a potted plant break and his mother screaming at him to stay away. Itachi killed Fugaku first, but Mikoto was under him in all flashbacks of their bodies. How did she get there? Itachi did lie to himself a lot.

I saw this article calling Sasuke a Villain and how the live-action shouldn't include his "villain" arc, because it "felt tedious and too convoluted to the bigger narrative" and instead they should make him a pivot for the fight against the Otsutsuki...
Did this person watch the anime or read the manga?
Article from CBR, Title: The Naruto Live-Action Movie Doesn't Need To Adapt This Villain Arc
Tumblr media
1. Protect Konoha from what? The Uchiha wanted to end the discrimination and oppression they were facing at the hands of the higher ups... (Not to mention that when Kurama attacked the village (under genjutsu, when Naruto was born), and during the konoha crush, no other villages went to attack the Leaf after the events)
2. Most people would hate growing up alone, and why was that sentence in bold?
3. Sasuke didn't find out about the true reason Itachi did what he did, until after Itachi died, as well as the real reason behind said Coup... as far as I am aware. And why wouldn't he want revenge against Konoha (specifically the 3 people who are left that caused all of his trauma and the uchiha genocide, it'd be 4 but the Sandaime Hokage was already dead by this point in the story)
4. What "wars" against Madara and Obito? There was only 1 War against them, the 4th great ninja war, that lasted 2 days a.k.a. approximately ~212 episodes, including filler (volumes 55 through 59 in the Manga, according to google)
Tumblr media
"Naruto and Sasuke were reincarnations of her sons (Ashura and Indra, respectively)"
Okay, so the author didn't watch nor read Naruto...
Indra and Ashura Otsutsuki are not Kaguya's sons... they are her grandsons 👁️👄👁️ Homura and Hagoromo Otsutsuki are her sons...
I feel like the author doesn't know much about Kaguya either, if they did they'd know her story.
"The advantage of Sasuke being a rebel without defecting from Konoha is that Naruto would have the help needed to fight the big villains of the franchise: the Ōtsutsuki."
When the time came, was Sasuke not helping Naruto with that? 🧐 And why shouldn't he had defected from Konoha? What good could they do for him?
Tumblr media
Why does Sasuke need to be convinced to return home, when his home was taken from him by this "home" the author speaks of, that "home" being Konoha? Why should he return to the place that treated his people so poorly that they felt they no other choice but to do a coup against the people in charge of Konoha only to be wiped out for daring to stand up for themselves after years of oppression...?
Konoha, specifically Danzo, the third hokage, and 2 hogake advisors, forced Itachi to wipeout his whole clan, excluding Sasuke, and then blamed him for it. They swept what they did under a filthy rug, that already had many skeletons piling up, and acted like he was the most evil person... He was a child and he was forced to do that and to become a fugitive by the old people in charge, who had no business being in charge of Konoha since there should've been a 5th Hokage by then... (regardless if Itachi regretted it or not, which he never really does)
Tumblr media
I won't say it...😇
Tumblr media

"Sasuke could learn more about how Indra developed a dark side, which passed down to the Uchiha, while Ashura's light gave way to the Senju and Uzumaki (Naruto's family) clans"
1. While I do agree that Naruto should've learnt more of the Uzumaki (and the Namikaze), besides finding out they excelled in Sealing Jutsus, had very long lives and were a bit savage (it wasn't in-depth at all, and there is no one to teach him, since the Uzumaki are also victims of genocide (in which Konoha did not help protect them) and well, I don't know what happened to Minato's people)
2. And that Sasuke should've learnt more of his people (but how was he going to, when he was the only one left at age 7/8?)
3. Indra's dark side... it wasn't passed down, nor did it emerge until his father gave his little brother the title of successor and expected him to follow without questions, having his birthright taken away because he was more introverted than his little brother whom their father called "the flunky useless dropout younger brother" (according to a panel I saw). And implied, at least to me, that ninjustu was created for wars and all things evil (Indra created ninjustu when he was just a child). ah yes his dark side the Uchiha inherited, that darkness of wanting to be treated like people and with respect in the village they helped make.
Tumblr media
4. Kushina calls the Uzumaki, among other things, a bit savage. Batsuma Senju punched Hashirama for being angry/sad that his little brother died, saying he was disrespecting his brother (and him) by basically questioning the system. Tobirama is a Senju, who was not shy about his hatred and prejudice against the Uchiha Clan (he is after all the founder of the bigoted psuedo science that was the "Curse of Hatred" the Uchiha are supposedly afflicted by, a clan that according to him is cursed and called Sasuke "a brat possessed by Uchiha evil") and that's on Ashura's "light" that gave way for his descendants, the Uzumaki and the Senju, "a clan of love~"🥰
Tumblr media
Right, because he wasn't a pivot to the story, nor did his and naruto's story have any "heart and impact"... Right...
Tumblr media
At some point, I wonder if some of this article is just satire 😅

I've seen a few people say that if you leave out the stuff we learn about him as the story goes on, Hiruzen speech during his death scene, about family and such, can still be rather touching.
To that I say: what about Naruto???
Even if you want to ignore the stuff that comes later: everything involving Danzo, the Uchihas, Orochimaru, and the promise that he made to Naruto's parents - even if NONE of that happened - he would still be the asshole who let everybody in the village treat Naruto like shit and left him to live in a shitty apartment by himself from the time he was a small child.
"We are family" WHERE IS NARUTO IN THAT FAMILY

Obito Week: Day 6 - Birthday / Grandma
Tumblr media Tumblr media
// The wooden floor creaked horridly under his weight. It was old, unused to being stepped on after years of solitude and emptiness. No one had entered the house since his grandmother had passed, not even himself, he couldn't bare the pain of memories. Obito left everything behind that day, he started over. Lady Mikoto took pity on him, or perhaps she truly cared, he wasn't sure. He stayed with her, her husband and her son until the mission at Kannabi Bridge was given. With Mikoto now dead under the hand of her son, the orphans he used to train and nearly raise ice cold, and the elderly Uchiha that used to give in to his candy addiction now long gone, Obito felt empty. He couldn't kill them, even if he pushed all of his pain and feelings to the deepest pits of his stomach, he couldn't keep a blade steady enough to do it. He was truly alone now. Regret swelling in his heart. Rin... Minato... Kushina... they were gone as well. The only person he cared for that was still alive thought he was dead, and he couldn't go to tell him otherwise.
Instead, he stood in an empty home. It was cold and unloving, unlike his best memories, and an absolute mess from years of untidiness. He stepped further in despite it, treating every object he moved with care, and every box he opened he opened delicately. It was his grandmother's treasures, things she'd cherish forever she said. She'd scold him if he wasn't gentle.
In a dusty box tucked underneath her bed, Obito found her old camera sitting atop an album of photographs. They were all of him. Smiling, pouting and embarrassed, sometimes asleep, all captioned with how much she loved them. Tears pricked at his eyes as he removed his gloves, refusing to get dirt or grime on such a precious book, and placed it neatly in a bag he found in his old room. She once said she would show all of the photos to her great-grandchildren, and while Obito doubted he'd ever have a romantic life, he'd take it with him to make it come true for her. Even if he hated pictures.

I remember someone saying that having police in Konoha was basically useless because the whole system is focused on creating soldiers, so why would they need a a completely separate unit of individuals solely for looking after the minority of civilians? Amazing point, and it also adds on to the fact that making the Uchihas cops was to further isolate them! Why was this whole unit of people just for dealing with petty civilian issues necessary? And why make one of your most important assets, the Uchihas, the group that leads this force, when they could be doing much more useful things like actually participating in the government and going on missions? We see that after the Uchihas massacre there's no more police force, and Konoha doesn't exactly struggle without them there, we don't see anyone else take the place of law enforcers either, so really, what was the whole point of them in the first place? As I stated before, this was all to alienate and isolate the Uchihas, making them seem "other" and increasing the distrust between both parties. The Uchihas "coup" (if it can even be called that since it was never even able to happen) was a result of the Uchihas finally having enough of the treatment by both the government at the time, and the village in general. The Uchihas didn't intend to take over the government, it was going to be a desperate attempt to be heard and have change take place so the Uchihas situation could improve. But instead of hearing them out, the Hokage decided to order their execution without thought for why they would even attempt such a rash thing, just brushing it off as the "curse of hatred", even though that's bullshit.

a second top five fucked up Naruto things?
ooo a 6-10, if you will. Here's the top 5.
More supremely fucked up things in Naruto:
The whole Hyuuga thing is terrible, awful, wretched. The vast majority of the clan are enslaved to the main branch. On top of that, they can be made to experience extreme pain whenever a main branch member wills it. Everyone finds out about it and nothing happens.
ROOT, as a whole, was once sanctioned by the powers that be. No one made any real moves to stop it once Hiruzen vaguely decided it shouldn't be a thing anymore. Having children kidnapped, branded, and then made to carry out the most heinous of missions is...terrible, at the least.
Everything about Jiraiya, frankly. We are introduced to him as a huge and powerful pervert (so what are the people he pervs on supposed to do?), he steals money from Naruto after failing to provide him with any sort of love and support despite apparently being his godfather, then he goes on to...perv over women and, uh, kind of contain the nine-tails for a few years. Then we're supposed to feel terrible, just terrible, about his death.
The whole Gaara thing in Suna is pretty fucked up. He was sealed before he was even born, and the seal sucked. He was blamed for the seal sucking, he was viewed as a total monster instead of a conduit of a chakra demon doing its thing, then he got a lobotomy from Naruto. His ending is a little too tidy, and I fear that things will continue to suck.
Kind of revisiting, but...Everything to do with the Uchiha massacre is horrendous. These people are driven to the edges of the village because the rest of the villagers fear the power that none of them can harness to take over the Kyuubi. They deal with years of being shunned. They decide that this doesn't sit right. An extremely young boy, Itachi, finds this out, and his cousin who also knows this information ends up dying in extremely suspicious circumstances. The indoctrinated teen decides to go to the village, and the village tells him what to do. I covered this in the other post, but the lead-up deserves a separate breakdown here.

Itachi knew his father might feel he had to fight for the clan as the clan leader and he would have been itachi's hardest opponent, which is why he waited to kill him last, after he had already killed the rest of the clan, so his parents (his dad especially) would be completely demoralized and no longer have a reason to fight. They knew also he wasn't going to kill Sasuke and had worked out a deal to keep him safe. Waking up and finding out that the clan is gone, and at that point their options are to kill their oldest son and then have to live on the run, to fight to protect themselves/Sasuke from Danzo and potentially the rest of Konoha the rest of their lives, or not fight to kill Itachi and let him go through his deal to keep Sasuke safe. Well, it's understandable why they choose to not fight. It was also clear itachi had been brainwashed to see Uchiha a certain way. By choosing to not fight and to offer Itachi forgiveness they were fighting to dismantle his programming. It's actually more effective then to fight him directly. Instead of giving him potentially more fuel, they forced him to face the reality of his actions by revealing their love for him.
Itachi was able to kill the rest of the clan, including babies and children, because he didn't have a strong bond with them. Itachi didn't spare Sasuke because he was a young child. He spared Sasuke because he was Sasuke. Sasuke was itachi's bright spot. He's guileless and kind and his biggest ambition is to be like Itachi and his dad. Of course Itachi couldn't help but love Sasuke. Other characters start to love Sasuke once they get to know him for the same reason, because Sasuke is, at heart, really pure. And itachi feels it too. So he could feel misplaced anger at the rest of the clan and lump them all together as bad because he was being brainwashed to hate his clan. But the brainwashing couldn't work completely because of Sasuke. Sasuke was so pure he couldn't see Sasuke as the same as the rest of the clan. Instead he idolized Sasuke.
And so when Danzo offered him a deal that would allow him to keep Sasuke safe, itachi jumped on the offer. He felt hopeless and misplaced all his anger and hate on the clan. The brainwashing started to peel away when his parents responded as they did, but it was too late at that point. He hated the clan and hated himself, but not Sasuke. He idolized Sasuke because of his purity and goodness. Which is why he wanted Sasuke to be the one to kill him and to focus only on him. He saved Sasuke's life, but then he wanted Sasuke to make his life about himself. Sasuke was Itachi's reason to live.

I am begging people to stop spreading this incorrect claim. The claim is based on KAKASHI'S TSUKUYOMI, not Sasuke's, and adds 0 value to any narrative, not even Itachi hate.
Itachi explicitly told Kakashi that he will be stabbing him for 72 hours. The 72 hours are Kakashi's perception, while in reality, Kakashi's time spent under genjutsu seemed to have lasted 1 second, or at least, a unique stabbing sequence lasted 1 second. Whether it's a real second or an experienced one, we get the above number of seconds in 72 hours.
The first person who made this meme baselessly applied Kakashi's Tsukuyomi experience to Sasuke's, although Itachi explicitly made his shorter. Itachi grabbed Sasuke and said "For 24 hours from now on, wander that day". So first of all, he never said Sasuke would be reliving the exact moment the sword came down on their parents for each second of 24 hours, let alone 72. And would 1 second really be enough to see both of them die? If that was what Itachi meant, we'd already have to divide above number by 3. Which would be awful enough, but makes no sense.
Because Itachi wanted to refresh Sasuke's hatred. Would showing him the same second's event on loop for 24 hours, be it the imaginary time passed or real time, really do that? Because I'd think if you made someone re-watch the same SECOND of horror for 24 hours on loop, let alone 72, they'd more likely grow dull to it. Exposure therapy, if you will.
So it would make much more sense if, both for traumatic effect and based on what was actually said, Sasuke relived the entire day including his final hours of happiness, the eerie build-up of the bloodbath in the compound, and importantly, what contributed a lot to messing him up: Itachi's stone-cold speech. And here, it wouldn't matter whether Itachi's definition of a "day" is 12 or 24 hours. Itachi explicitly said "wander that day", not "relive that moment". So if Sasuke wanders the entire day for 24 hours, he'd see his parents die twice at most, unless he "wanders" in such a wibbly-wobbly, timey-wimey trajectory, that he keeps stumbling into that moment. Which would be a huge reach. For traumatic effect, resetting Sasuke's memory to before he discovered the massacre, letting Sasuke relive the whole day would be far more effective because Sasuke's mind would start fresh and unprepared.
Itachi never said "Tsukuyomi lasts 72 hours". Someone just claimed that based on Kakashi's crucifixion, and people ran with it. But Itachi said he controls time in Tsukuyomi, so there is no such thing as a "72 hour rule".
Itachi explicitly described what happens to Kakashi and for how long, and people believed it so uncritically that they applied it to all Tsukuyomi. So why not also believe Itachi when he explicitly describes what's going to happen to Sasuke? I'd think Itachi abused that poor boy enough without making up baseless numbers that add absolutely nothing, because whether Sasuke relives that one second 2 or 518,400 times, surely, he'll never forget the first time.

A love/hate AU where Sakura would have been in love with Itachi all her life, but when he slaughters the uchiha clan (except for Sasuke) she finds herself heartbroken. She hears of Itachi's prowess throughout the five great Shinobi nations. He even joins the Akatsuki, much to her dismay. So she vows to bring Itachi to justice and bring him back to the village, even if it means dying. In this AU, Sakura is much stronger than in the canon, having devoted herself to her training from an early age.
Of course, she is unaware that the Uchiha massacre was ordered by the village's higher-ups, and that Itachi is in fact a spy.
