ok so like i know the reason is just. sexism but one thing that really irks me about how the post-timeskip naruto manga handled which characters became medic nin bc it makes absolutely no sense to me

sakura's decision to train under tsunade makes sense, and i love that she got a super strength power up, so no notes there, but the other teams.... yeesh

so first off, team ten. we're told that ino decided to follow sakura into mednin land to keep being rivals with her... despite that at no point factoring into their rivalry at all beforehand. ino never showed any interest in that, nor was the yamanaka clan ever mentioned to have anything to do with healing as far as i can remember. it's like going to art school to stay with your bestie when your goal is to become a dentist. why are you there. find other ways to spend time together. it also kinda goes against her family's whole thing as. the guys who do the torture stuff. and it's barely ever relevant anyway

for team ten, i think the team medic should've been shikamaru, and i think this not just bc i think it makes more sense skill-wise (something about the way the nara clan's various shadow jutsu work just screams "you need good chakra control for this" to me), but also bc i think it would make asuma's death a thousand times more painful. bc shikamaru is a slacker. he's not learning medical ninjutsu bc he wants to, he's learning it bc someone on the team has to in order to stick together. they're all chuunin now; one of them has to be a medic. them's the rules. but he doesn't really care that much, even when he is trying to learn, and he's so used to being smart enough to not have to pay attention in lessons anyway that he's not prepared for classes that require his full focus. and then asuma dies and shikamaru is doomed to spend the rest of his fucking life wondering if he could've saved him by paying just a little more attention to those medical ninjutsu lessons (he could not have (but he'll never know for sure))

team eight makes some sense, since giving the girl who struggles with fighting the healing job isn't exactly out of nowhere, but i do feel it was the lazy choice. kiba already had a sister involved in the medical business, even if she deals more with animals, so he could've started learning from her and found that he liked it. plus kiba's goal is to be hokage, and the current hokage is a mednin, so it's not like it wouldn't support his goal. or shino could do it; would add another layer to his character. hinata works fine but. it's just not a very interesting development imo

but what really gets me is team gai. good freaking grief. out of every single team, team gai was the one with the most obvious choice. bc there was only one choice. lee can't do any kind of ninjutsu, and tenten's only real backstory is that her chakra control isn't good enough for her to be a medic nin. so it had to be neji. canon establishes that every team has to have a medic; this is a policy tsunade got passed even before she became hokage, so no way in hell is she going back on it now.

moreover, neji becoming a medical ninja - especially if hiashi encouraged it - would show some development for the hyuuga clan maybe starting to suck a bit less. bc as a medic, neji would be bound by oath to stay alive for as long as possible. imagine a world in which hizashi came back and hiashi was able to tell his brother that not only was their family starting to change, but his son had chosen a path that would prevent him from ever following in his father's footsteps. it would be the first step (of many) to show that the hyuuga clan was freeing itself from its own bullshit.

also it would've made sakura catching the zetsu pretending to be neji a thousand times funnier. like that's her coworker. they've shared shifts at the hospital together. she's seen neji drink vodka straight from a bottle and then crash on her couch after they got out of a twelve-hour surgery on the fucking dumbass chuunin who managed to step on his own boobytrap. she knows him.

You grew up alone in the hidden leaf village being left on the door steps of the third hokage. The only reason he knew you were apart of the hidden L/n clan was based off of a tattoo you had on your ankle.

He and a select few knew what had happened to your clan the horrible massacre that took upon your family leaving you an orphan. The third hokage gladly took you in a raised you as his own daughter but was clear to make sure to not hide who you were and what your past consisted of.

You now at the age of 18 could master all five nature transformations. You went through intense training after the chunin exams and went through hidden training but sometimes the third would have you train with an actual team. And the team he chose was Gai sensei.

That’s when you first met Neji Hyuga, you were both the same age and had the same set of skills. At that time you could only master two of the nature transformations, water release and wind release.

“Third Hokage what a surprise.” Gai said walking into the room, you kept your head down on your paper writing down things to study. “This is Y/n. I would like for you to train her with your team for now.” Gai gladly accepted and brought you to the training grounds where everyone else was waiting.

Lee, Ten and Neji all looked at you with different expressions which made you feel uncomfortable. “Y/n, why don’t you show us what you can do so I can better evaluate you.” Gai spoke moving out the way letting you have the space to show off your technique.

Using you water and wind release together creating ice, Gai and Lee praised your skill while Ten sat their admiring it in silence and Neji scoffed turning away in dissatisfaction.

From that day forward a hatred for the stuck up Neji Hyuga started to form. What made it worse was that it wasn’t hatred at all, you had actually liked him a lot not just for his skill and preservation but for his personality and the person that he holds himself to be. You respected him, but you would never fool yourself to have those type of feelings so the best way to ignore them is by ignoring him.

Currently at the rank Jonin you were sent on many missions along with Neji who became the same rank around the same time you did. This last mission you attended took over a few months to complete and by the time you came back it was evident how much you physically changed.

“Y/N!!!” Sakura and Ten ran over to you greeting you at the entrance of the gate, you gave the both of them a hug and smiled at how much you missed your friends. “Look at you, you are practically glowing.” Ten said grabbing your hand and spinning you around, “Now that you’re here, you can join us on this trip that we were all getting ready to leave for.” Sakura said wrapping her arm around yours while Ten held onto the bag you were carrying.

“I guess. I don’t have any upcoming missions so I guess.” Sakura squealed in excitement, “Neji just came back a few days ago too so that means everyone’s here.” “Wait what?” You said stopping in your tracks. “Yeah. It’s just a trip for us, a few days by a lake a ways out. It’s supposed to be really fun.” Ten said and you immediately shook your head in disagreement.

“I can’t go.” “Why because of Neji? I don’t know what you two have going on, you two have hated each other ever since you joined the team.” Ten said walking forward towards your house with Sakura pulling on your arm. “I hate stuck up people. Simple. Not everyone has lived the life that he has or anyone else.” You say looking down at your ankle at you clan tattoo.

“Well suck it up for a week. Can you do that? We all missed you. It never fails that you tend to take missions that last months.” Sakura complained as you three arrived at your house, you thanked the both of them and went inside to unpack what you didn’t need.

You were the last to arrive at the lake due to just coming back from an extended mission so everyone was expecting you to be late. When you arrived Lee, Naruto, Shikamaru and Choji attacked you with hugs and greetings, Neji stayed sitting down where he was sitting while you greeted everyone but him.

“How was the mission? I’m sure it was easy for you but why did it take so long and why was it extended?” Shikamaru asked, “Yeah? When we heard from the granny that your mission was extended we couldn’t understand why. We all assumed you got injured or something.” Naruto asked adding onto Shikamaru questions.

“I finished the mission a couple of months ago. I did get injured which kept me there for at most a week. After that I wanted to stay, the village itself was beautiful and I learned a lot about myself and my techniques there.” You said pushing a small piece of hair behind your ear. You unconsciously looked over at Neji who was staring at you, furrowing your eyebrows you looked away and started to bite on your fingernail.

Recently anytime you would think about Neji this heated feeling would erupt inside of you and now that he was here infront of you didn’t make it any better. You squeezed your thighs together throwing your attention back into the conversation. Everyone decided they wanted to take a dip in the lake so everyone had left to change into their swim clothes.

“Fine then.” He let out an exhausted sigh spewing some curses under his breath before looking back up at you. "Give me a chance. To prove what i can make you feel." Before you could answer his hand gripped the back of your neck pulling your face closer to his.

More supremely fucked up things in Naruto:

The whole Hyuuga thing is terrible, awful, wretched. The vast majority of the clan are enslaved to the main branch. On top of that, they can be made to experience extreme pain whenever a main branch member wills it. Everyone finds out about it and nothing happens.

ROOT, as a whole, was once sanctioned by the powers that be. No one made any real moves to stop it once Hiruzen vaguely decided it shouldn't be a thing anymore. Having children kidnapped, branded, and then made to carry out the most heinous of missions is...terrible, at the least.

Everything about Jiraiya, frankly. We are introduced to him as a huge and powerful pervert (so what are the people he pervs on supposed to do?), he steals money from Naruto after failing to provide him with any sort of love and support despite apparently being his godfather, then he goes on to...perv over women and, uh, kind of contain the nine-tails for a few years. Then we're supposed to feel terrible, just terrible, about his death.

The whole Gaara thing in Suna is pretty fucked up. He was sealed before he was even born, and the seal sucked. He was blamed for the seal sucking, he was viewed as a total monster instead of a conduit of a chakra demon doing its thing, then he got a lobotomy from Naruto. His ending is a little too tidy, and I fear that things will continue to suck.

Kind of revisiting, but...Everything to do with the Uchiha massacre is horrendous. These people are driven to the edges of the village because the rest of the villagers fear the power that none of them can harness to take over the Kyuubi. They deal with years of being shunned. They decide that this doesn't sit right. An extremely young boy, Itachi, finds this out, and his cousin who also knows this information ends up dying in extremely suspicious circumstances. The indoctrinated teen decides to go to the village, and the village tells him what to do. I covered this in the other post, but the lead-up deserves a separate breakdown here.

the naruto vs neji fight makes me laugh because:

naruto frames his win as a victory for "hard work" (as opposed to inborn talent) even though the only reason he turned the battle in his favour was due to his innate potent chakra reserves. neji may be a genius, but he also learned and mastered the hyuuga main house techniques through his own labour. neji is a closer representation of hard work than naruto will ever be (especially when it comes to this fight).

naruto goes "haven't you considered HINATA is suffering too" after hearing about how neji's dad died for the main house

realized how fucked up it was that neji refers to hinata with the suffix "sama." the only others who receive that level of deference are the kages and the sannin.

naruto seems more outraged at neji for reacting negatively to what’s been done to him and his father than hiashi or the hyuuga clan in general (because he, too, is an orphan boy and he alone gets to dictate how every other orphan in the series behaves, apparently)

naruto immediately shelves the issue of the hyuuga clan to be revised after he rises to the position of hokage.

naruto says to neji "you can change your destiny." myself and presumably all audience members assumed that meant neji would not die for a main house member exactly like his dad did.

and watching this fight for the first time i thought "great we'll get development on all these fronts for naruto and neji and the hyuuga plotline later on" and isn't that just hilarious

consanguinity is a given for dojutsu clans like the uchiha where it is implied in canon that cousins marry into each other’s sides of the families. sasuke and itachi seem to be products of this sort of cousin unions, but the question is how closely blood related must these uchihas be to be married?

which takes me to the hyuuga clan. in my naruto rewrite fic, i was thinking of ways how dojutsu clans may function & what the key differences are between the only two we’ve seen on the series: the uchiha and the hyuuga. the uchiha seem to be more genetically diverse based on glimpses we see of both pre-series and naruto-era relatives. black hair, black eyes, and very pale skin are markers of an uchiha though others don’t necessarily have the same phenotype.

but the hyuuga? i can’t think of a member of that family, main or cadet branches, who deviates from the hyuuga look (byakugan, fair skin, dark hair) other than boruto and himawari, who are both first-generation half uzumaki children.

that makes me wonder: is the genetic trait for the byakugan a lot more recessive than the sharingan? after all, a hyuuga is born with the byakugan (aside from boruto and himawari who have to activate them & only their mother is a hyuuga.) meanwhile, the sharingan is meant to be activated later in life regardless if you have two uchiha parents like sasuke or only one uchiha parent like sarada. the protectiveness of the hyuuga over the byakugan makes me wonder if it’s more than just safeguarding bloodline limits but also as a way to actually preserve them as bloodline limits. if the gene for the byakugan is always as recessive as it seems on boruto, then it would be key to keep it in the family. aka consanguinity.

that would lead to a lot more cousin matches than the uchiha. matches that are, compared to mikoto and fugaku, between much more closely related cousins. especially with the way the hyuuga family caste system is played out, i can’t imagine minor relatives far removed from the main family could marry their way into the latter, thus making cosanguinous marriages within the hyuuga most likely between first cousins only. and i think the reason why neji and hinata were NOT betrothed as soon as they were born was because their fathers were (presumably) identical twins, making them biologically half siblings rather than cousins. it’s too close a match, even for the hyuuga clan.

Jujutsu Kaisen x Naruto except its more of an AU than a crossover. Like what if jjk took place a really long time after naruto.

Itadori Yuuji is a descendant of the Uzumaki clan. His physical strength, durability, cursed energy (chakra but weird) reserves, and ability to host (seal) another being inside of him are all characteristics of the Uzumaki clan. Also the pink hair and the loud, sunshiny attitude.

Fushiguro Megumi is a descendant of the Nara clan and the Inuzuka clan. His technique, the spiky dark hair, and the general air of annoyance around him are all from the Nara clan. The fact that the Ten Shadows are mostly animals, with the ones Megumi likes the most being dogs, is really all I got for this one.

Kugisaki Nobara is a descendant of the Yamanaka clan. Her loud (angry, brash) attitude, emotional constipation, and general badassery are all seen in members of the Yamanaka clan. Also her Straw Doll and Resonance techniques both connect some part of a person with Nobara, which gave the same vibes as the Yamanaka clan jutsu.

Satoru Gojo is a descendant of the Uchiha and Hyuuga clans. For obvious reasons. I have no idea how he got that hair from the Uchiha and Hyuuga clans, but oh well.

Summary: They are poth from prominent families, and Neji is being pushed to marry. He doesn't like the idea of suitors being pushed on him, so he asks you, his long term friend. Not for love, but because he can't really picture marrying a stranger. Will you be able to love your new husband?

At nearly twenty-one, Neji Hyuga was being pestered by his uncle to get married. He had been accepted as a part of the main branch, and as a male, he had a duty to produce Hyuga heirs. Neji, never being one for romance or copulation, was not a huge fan of this idea, but understood his duties.

The last few weeks they had discussed and met with suitors from other prominent clans in and near the village. He was disinterested for the most part, and had a sense that some of the women were intimidated by him. He couldn't blame them, he was aloof, disinterested, and a ninja to boot.

There was, however, someone who piqued his interest. He hadn't thought about it previous to Hiashi's suggestion. Y/n L/n was a year his junior, a fellow ninja, and a friend. Her family didn't quite rival the Hyuga's status, but they were high enough up that the two would make a suitable match.

Y/n wasn't a super close friend of his, but they had been on missions together and complimented each other fairly well. He would even venture to say he enjoyed working with her. He didn't think that she was much interested in marriage, from their conversations, but he knew her family also followed the tradition of arranged marriages. As the oldest heir, he was sure that she would be pushed to marry soon, too.

The morning after the conversation with Hiashi, he went looking for you. You would be his best option, he decided. You trained most mornings before breakfast, so bright and early he wandered to the training grounds.

He found you easily. You were practicing taijutsu with Tenten. Tenten spotted Neji almost immediately, signaling you to pause when she saw he was approaching you.

You turned around, sweat already on your brow from the mornings workout. You smiled at Neji, bowing slightly to him as he stopped in front of you. You had always liked him in a general way, he was a good comrade and someone you enjoyed working with.

"Tenten, Y/n." He bowed. "I apologize for my interruption. I was hoping to speak to you,"

You made eye contact and you raised your eyebrow. "Um, okay,"

You turned to look at Tenten in question but she just shrugged. "Walk with me, please,"

You followed his lead, walking next to him to the outskirts of the field. "How are you?" He begun.

"Well." You replied, but backtracked. "I could be better, I'm a little stressed that my father is pushing for me to marry, but otherwise I'm doing well." You tucked some stray hair behind your ear, but smiled at him.

Neji widened his eyes in surprise. This was perfect. What better timing could he have?

"It's funny that you say that, actually." He glanced at you through the corner of his eye, averting them when they made contact with yours.

"I came here with a proposition. I'm in the same position that you are. I have considered my options, and if you would, I would like to propose a marriage between us."

You halted midstep, nearly causing yourself to fall. This was not something you thought you would be hearing this morning - not something you thought you would hear from Neji period.

Neji watched you carefully. He had anticipated surprise from you and waited for you to recover.

"Neji, I- What made you come to this conclusion?" You furrowed your brows.

"We work well together, and you are not intimidated by me. You would make a good partner, I think, and it would be better than marrying off to a stranger."

Neji thought you would be a good partner? What? He wasn't wrong about marrying a stranger, though. You had also hated that prospect.

You nodded, straightening your back. "I will think on it and bring this proposal to my father, if it would suit you."

He nodded once, and walked you back to the field in silence. "Thank you, I await your answer."

"Uhhhh, what's that about?" Tenten asked.

"Neji Hyuga just asked to marry me,"

Tenten choked on her own spit, eyes bulging. "What?!"

"I think I'm going to head home, I'm sorry to cut our training short." You started walking back without an answer from her, seeing as she was frozen in shock.

You took the long way home, contemplating. It wouldn't be the worst thing to marry him. Even if he was standoffish, you would marry into a nice family, and your children would be gifted with an incredible jutsu. It was tempting. Not to mention the suitors your father had brought had not seemed keen on such a capable woman. They liked soft things, the ones who stayed soft.

Of course there was nothing wrong with that; having a soft wife. You doubted, however, that they could make you feel safe enough to become soft. And although you were a powerful woman and a skilled ninja, you would like to be soft someday, sometimes. Fall into your femininity. Could Neji be that safe place for you?

You wondered. He was a good man, someone you could easily communicate with, and someone who could offer true protection to your future heirs, and someone who would not doubt your abilities.

"What is it, dear? You aren't going to start complaining again about the suitors you have to meet later, are you?"

"No, actually," You said calmly.

Your father looked at you in surprise, but recovered quickly and smiled with humor and a quirked brow. "Then what is it?"

"Neji Hyuga, standing heir of the Hyuga Clan, has proposed a union between us... And I would like to accept." You placed your chin on your hand delicately.

Your father, who had taken a sip of tea, spluttered, spitting tea everywhere. Between coughs, he asked. "You.. choose.. to accept?"

He beat a fist on his chest, trying to stifle his cough. He took a deep breath. He eyed you almost warily. "I had no idea you had an interest in that boy. He is a comrade of yours, is he not."

"He is. However, I can't say I've really ever held an interest in him. I do believe he and I are compatible, and that we could work very well together in a partnership, as we do in the field." You tried to hide your smile at your father's confusion.

Suddenly, a huge grin broke out on his face. "Then yes, of course I accept! A higher status clan and you are not complaining to me about the arrangement? Yes, this will do quite well." He clapped his hands together once.

"Well, should we go to them and start the arrangements?"

◇ Earlier in the relationship would be too flustered about the idea of you two showering together aaaaaaaa

◇ Aren't you gonna be uncomfortable? He just wants to make sure you always feel safe and comfy with him

◇ First time it was probably on accident during a mission and you decide to spend the night at a very near onsen in the mountains rather than sleeping on the rocks and camping outside. Turns out since it was such a small and reserved onsen it had mixsed gender bathing. Neji being a gentleman ofc offered you two take turns but since you arrived there quite late there wasn't enough time for the two of you to separately take relaxing baths before closing of the bath area.

◇He got in first a little nervous but somewhat happy that you actually came up with the idea meaning you wouldn't think it's weird to be in the baths just with him

◇ After you got in (he didn't look while u got in the water lol) it was a bit of awkward silence and blushyness after it turned into comforting silence and you two really did get to relax and enjoy being so exposed to one another

◇ After that experience he actually considered doing this more often, second time it was when you got injured after a mission and couldn't properly use your arms until a week, of course he was instantly at your side during these times, not only to help you do your tasks but also comfort you emotionally. Speaking of tasks, it's kinda very hard to wash your hair with very little arm strength, this time Neji wasn't as nervous since he only saw this action as genuinely taking care of you ( I'm sure he likes to have someone depend on him and him being in charge considering his past), just resting in the nice warm and foamy bathwater with your head resting close to the edge of the tub and Neji sitting next to the tub gently washing your hair and back + since your arms are very weak after that mission he must make sure your muscles can come back to full strength and comfort as soon as possible so he also probably gives some bomb ass massages cuz he can see all the chakra points so he knows exactly where to massage

◇After all this time in the relationship he now really loves taking baths together simply cause of how relaxing it is. He's had a nightmare? Let's make some tea and go for a soak to keep him grounded to reality and lossen his tense muscles. You had a long day? Let's have a hot bath with salts and oils while talking about whatever you want and if you play your cards right he'll give you a full massage to get rid of all the stress from today

◇ In general likes close relaxing moments like these where you two can just be exposed knowing you wouldn't judge eatchother + first time you ever massaged/washed his hair scalp he got all the shivers and shiiii its now his fav thing

Playing with a new graphic. As for my opinion on the series. This is its only logical conclusion in my opinion. This isn't any hate for boruto as I have only seen parts, Though suffice to say it, im uninterested and have no plans on watching it either. To me the show ended after the infinite tsukiyomi, despite all of the growth that our favorite characters go through thats just something to powerful to not succumb to. The type of storyline created afterwards is very pleasing to the fanbase, to pleasing. It is literally everything a happy ending should be, atleast until borutos characters are revealed. But that is just it boruto is strange in that way, its world is oddly familiar yet completely ignorant of the fact that the ninja world is a world stricken with the turmoil from conflicting interests. It is the same world, nothing has changed, everyone is a bit friendlier but they will eventually be put at odds friends or not. As for the actual events of the infinite tsukuyomi, it happened, it cannot be undone, any remaining and logical enemies were already handled, rinnegan captured, byakugan eliminated, they literally ignored the byakugans power the entire series, the only thing stronger than sharingan, then captured the strongest doujutsu of them all. and then spliced the ultimate, pain and blood soaked path of the sharingan, with the deadly, strange, and self sacrificing, disease of a doujutsu. The Byakugan received no growth and all of its strong users killed making it virtually ineffective. Byakugan remains un weaponized throughout the entirety of the war. Despite all the hindered plans, the knowledge gained, and prophecy discovered. They just abandoned it entirely. Now that being said, its not that the characters didn't grow or finally get that reciprocation they needed but it ends once its tsukuyomi is activated, everything else is a delusion within a delusion only getting close enough to the lives they used to live, as they get closer to their bodies death, which my assumption would be by starvation. And possibly even turning them into another form of zetsu at best...or worst? The ninjas could never live in a world without chakra or violence, it is simply to alien. So they are given lives, just close enough, without any of the effects on the actual world to make them feel at ease. Boruto and his life are just the makings of someones fantasy, whose? Hinatas? Sakuras? Who knows. But it can't be someone who knows of Narutos Bloodlines. He is related to everyone down the line, the uzumakis being a precursor to many of the strongest bloodlines and kekkai genkai wielding users. None of his children remotely resemble their ancestors and are almost carbon copy naruto 2 and hinata 2. They completely forgoe all of narutos natural blood rites. And their possibilities. As the rest of the students formed of the relationships are also in some ways a means to an end. While sakura and sasuke end up together sasuke is always away because neither of the two will ever know him that well. Hinata never really did, and sakura also really has no idea who he is. Only Naruto, Orochimaru, juugo, karin, suigetsu, and kabuto know who he is. He has virtually no personality at all going forward. Liking sakura fine, marrying and having a kid with her? The fanbase raped his entire character. The person whose memory is being conceived can only be someone who knows basic information about him and his demeanor. Aside from me getting away from my point and poking holes in boruto, its probably not a bad series. But I also don't believe that naruto had to continue. How the prophecy was told, how it was stretched all the way to the end, how at every juncture it continued unimpeded, how it reached the absolute maxim of its potential. Only to be broken in a few moments? Not even in the same decade, at the minimum. A century in the making and not for a century less is all i can say. Try going to sleep for 2 minutes. Tell me how much time passes afterwards. Anyways thats the block limit. And hopefully i can let my piece rest. Feel free to take yours.

the naruto manga has over six hundred characters, and one of the major themes is brotherhood. there are several people with siblings

hinata and hanabi are, as far as i can find, the only set of sisters in the entire manga. every other sibling group is brother-brother(s), brother-sister, or brother-brother-sister.

hinata and hanabi are the only girls in the entire naruto manga who have a sister.

What the fuck is the Hyuuga clan structure Lots of fanfiction angry about the cursed seal (and they should be, the manga completely drops the thread about it and the fucked up structure of the clan) tend to emphasize a large council of stuffy Elders getting in the way of progress. They also like to assume that depending on who would become the heir of the clan between Hinata and Hanabi, the other sister would get sealed and become branch house. This tracks with the canon history of Hizashi and Neji getting sealed. However, this makes zero sense! If everyone except the line of former leader(s), current leader, heir, and presumably spouses, is getting sealed, then who the fuck are the other main house members? Who are the main house members marrying? How would the main house beat replacement fertility rate if they're sealing non-heir siblings? How can Elders exist that aren't in the direct line of succession? Why are there canonically other relatively young main house members, but Neji is getting sealed? Like, even if we assume that there are other lines of main house families, with only the direct succession line sealing sibling lines away, that also makes zero sense when looking at real life history. It's begging for incessant main house in-fighting and coups, as well as insanely high paranoia for those in the direct succession line. Seriously, "only the direct succession line is categorically not allowed to beat the replacement fertility rate" is a recipe for DISASTER. The timeline for the Hyuuga Affair is also wonky. Apparently, Hinata's 3rd birthday, Neji's sealing, Hiashi activating Hizashi's curse seal during Hinata's training, and the Kumo ninja kidnapping Hinata, all took place within the time span of the Kumo ninja being in town in order to sign and celebrate the signing of the Kumo-Konoha treat. To what narrative purpose is this time span so condensed, Kishimoto? (Meanwhile, while fact-checking this against the wiki, I laughed really hard at the canon pictures of the Hyuuga clan lineup, at how miniscule the lineup is. This is definitely not a clan that could run an entire village's police force, like the Uchiha did, unless Konoha was also way tinier than we thought. Then again, Kishimoto seems incapable of believing that people who should desperately want to pass on their incredible abilities would also have more than the replacement rate number of children, so.)

Who is lowk socially incompetent? Who just....doesn't get it?

Sweet, sweet Sakura has no idea how off-putting she is to others. She tries! She does. But...she just lacks empathy in a way that others can't overlook. She fails to connect to people and understand what she's supposed to do and say in social situations. It's why she hoped so desperately to be pretty.

Sasuke lacks social awareness, too. He does not care and does not try, but if he did...his self-esteem would be wrecked. To be fair, he wasn't always like this. It happened post-massacre.

Itachi, though, was always socially inept. He was always like that and never fully got why the whole eradicating the clan thing was off the table to everyone but Danzo.

Kakashi is highkey socially incompetent, but he knows it and, on some level, chooses it. Like, he doesn't understand a lot of the subtle social faux pas he commits, but he purposefully commits the big ones.

Gai also understands most of his social failings, but chooses to not care about them.

Gaara will never be good with social cues, possessed by his demon or no. He murdered, like, a lot of his population under the influence of said demon, and he feels bad about it. And people feel bad about him. Naruto is the only one who doesn't mind his murderous nature, but sadly, he is obsessed with Sasuke.

All named Hyuugas, truly. It's like they took a 101 class on how to turn the population against them and also be personally unpleasant.
