one day you forgot to wear longer pants and well, your knees felt like they were literally on fire - due to how much kneeling and sliding on the floor your part required

you literally looked like a zombie while wobbling to your boyfriend’s dorm after practice

and yeonjun is no fool. he’s been in situations like these and he can immediately recognise scraped knees

but he lets you sit down first and pamper you with kisses

after you two ate dinner, he gently rubs your thighs and lets out a deep sigh before standing up and going to get something

you watch him as he kneels down in front of you and slowly rolls up your sweatpants, just above the knee. you feel guilt sinking in your stomach but the look that yeonjun gives you is full of love.

“please tell me next time. or if you forget your knee protectors, i can drop them off. or give you mine” he hums and takes out something from the first aid kit he just brought “it might sting a bit”

it does sting. more than a bit. but the way your boyfriend gently, almost feather-lightly badges your knee is making you forget about the pain.

with a look in your eye and a boyish smile, he places a tender kiss on the top of the bandage he just put

in conclusion: you can’t fool him. on top of that, next time he’ll make sure to pack you an extra pair of sweatpants or knee protectors along with a sticky note with something absolutely adorable written on it <3

but he let out a scoff before he helped you out

“are you laughing at me?” you asked, voice creaking as you looked up at soobin. your glossy eyes made his heart break and he felt extremely bad.

“i didn’t mean to, i’m so sorry! please don’t cry, darling” he pouted but you didn’t listen, the tears streaming down your cheeks because of the pain. soobin rushed to the kitchen to grab a first aid kit.

he kneeled down and put plasters on your scraped knees and elbows, his heart aching at the sound of your sobs.

“please don’t cry” he murmurs and you sniff. suddenly he hugs you tightly and only now you realise that soobin is crying too.

yeah well that turns into couples crying session :”)

soobin takes care of your for the next three days

and makes a mental note to never laugh at you again… even if he really didn’t mean it

after coming back he did a proper inspection as you warmed up with a warm cup of tea

later on he gave you a speech but it was interrupted due to your question who won the snow fight

you decided to surprise your boyfriend and bake him molang-shaped cookies

everything was going according to plan… until whilst taking out the cookies from the oven you actually put your wrist against the hot metal of the baking tray

you quickly put your wrist under the water and when it was stinging less, you continued on decorating the cookies

you put on a hoodie and hid the burn - you didn’t want kai to worry about it too much

but well… he came back home and obviously noticed the cookies, then smothered your face in kisses <3

you decided to eat them (after kai taking tons of pics) while watching a movie

you grabbed a cookie and moved your hand to your mouth, taking a bite. your sleeve shifted downwards due to your movement but you didn’t notice, too absorbed in the movie.

“what’s that?” you heard kai’s worried voice and you looked at him, confused. he sat up straightly, pausing the movie and gently took your wrist. oh.

“nothing, really” you said after you swallowed but his brows furrowed seriously.

“nothing? y/n, it’s a burn… wait… don’t tell me it happened because of those adorable cookies?” he gasped, trying to lighten up the mood but you could clearly see he’s worried.

“well, yeah…” you mumbled and kai just let out a deep sigh, standing up to get something “where are you going?”

“i heard aloe vera is good for that kind of burns!” he calls back and after he returns, you’re met with a gentle kiss on your cheek (and the cool of aloe vera on your skin).

✦ Lost in Limbo 2023 wrap-up

And finally, after the hectic period of Christmas and the New Year, we are here and ready for our wrap-up!

Warning: this devlog may include some typos. As per usual!

Honestly, I can't believe we are here. This year has been wild for so many reasons. We have made so much progress, perhaps not as much as we would have wanted, but we have come really far. I'm very proud of my team and thankful for the people we have met this year that have made this journey easier.

So...let's see what we have done this year and our plans for 2024!

✦ First of all, we made our itch.io page debut!

And this was perhaps the hugest milestone for us. It got a wonderful reception even if there's nothing to play yet, so we can't be grateful enough for that. This of course includes the key art and the screenshots we managed to get ready for the itchio page!

✦ We launched our official webpage!

Another amazing milestone for us! I remember tirelessly working with Raquel for weeks to get this done the way we wanted it to be.

✦ We welcomed our editor, Allie Vera, to our team!

They are not only a marvelous person but someone I'm having the privilege to learn from. Her editing skills are amazing and the script has done nothing but improve since we got it in her hands. We have started editing together and she has been working so, so hard, I'll be doing my best to keep up. Please send a lot of love their way, because they deserve it!

✦ We began working on the CGs!

Raquel has been working super hard and right now we have five CGs ready and one in process. The last one will likely be ready for next month, and with that the CGs for the demo will be finished!

✦ The UI was implemented and it's fully functional!

For someone who was a total stranger to programming, I think I've done a good job this past year! The game menus finally look like they should (with a bit of changes needed here and there) and everything is working well. I'm sure the code could be optimized greatly, but for now I'm happy with how it is (as my skills are, well, what they are!).

✦ We finished the demo script and have started the editing process!

That was a huge step for us as many changes were done to the script before we could consider it done. We sadly had to cut chunks of content because we felt like, for a demo, it was better to get to the juicy parts and meet the LI's as soon as possible. Some adaptations had to be made, some ideas had to be scratched, but here we are now, with a finished script ready to be coded, and being edited by Allie!

✦ We got some nice backgrounds done!

Work on backgrounds has been slower than we would have wanted to, but taking into consideration we were studying a master (that was pretty hard on us) and there's only four of us, I'd say it's a victory! There's still some backgrounds left, but as Astro and Raquel work on that, there's other areas of the game that keep moving forward.

✦ We opened a ko.fi page!

This was one of our 2023 goals, so high-five!

✦ We met amazing people, made new friends, and learned from a lot of fellow devs!

What a ride has it been! People I used to admire from a distance, enjoying their projects and gushing over them, are now part of my personal life. A lot of fellow devs have come forward in 2023 with new projects, new inspiring and incredible ideas, and we have been supported by all of them and welcomed as if we had always been a part of the Indie visual novel community.

Just to name a few of inspiring and amazing devs, the sweet folks at Foxglove Games (who have released Trouble Comes Twice!), Velvet Cupcake Games and their progress with Made Marion, Best Laid Plain Productions and their amazing work with Save the Villainness, and of course our beloved Crescence Studio with Alaris and Intertwine, which now has an Extended Edition!

As per usual, Lem (Crescence) has a special spot in this devlog because they have been the absolute highlight of this year. What a loving, sweet, amazing and creative individual. We all are very lucky to have them with us, but specially me; their friendship has meant so much for me this year, and I hope we can only grow closer with time! I LOVE YOU LEM!! 💜

✦ On a personal note...

On the personal side of things, I got diagnosed with OCD in late November. I had been suffering the symptoms since July, knowing something was wrong but thinking it would pass. It has changed my life and the way I see things and myself, and I'm on a long journey that has, unfortunately, affected my work on Lost in Limbo. I have not worked as much as I had planned, but I'm lucky to have my friends, my family and my partner, who are walking this path with me.

I'm sharing this because I think it's important. My experience will hopefully give someone who is reading this the push to seek help; I thought it was nothing and I ended up going through the hardest year of my life. Thankfully, I now have the help I need; I have been going to therapy since October, been diagnosed, and I'm now on my way to learn to live with OCD and heal from it. Some days are harder than others, but I'll get there! 💜

On a happier note, Astro and I will be adopting a cat from a shelter very very soon, if things go as planned! Raquel has taken the plunge and opened a sticker store! She has been doing great so far and is overworked but happy. We are so proud of her!

Also, we finally, FINALLY had the chance to get together for New Year's Eve and celebrate together after more than seven years of friendship! Sadly Kayden couldn't make it in the end because of COVID, but hopefully this is the beginning of a lot of years of celebrating together!

Mostly, the team and I have been doing fine, all things considered. Astro wants you all to now that even if he's not very active on social media, he appreciates your support a lot and will do his best to return that love! Thank you all for your support through the year, as always 💜

We had a bunch of goals set for 2023, and my God if they weren't ambitious. This year has taught us a lot about limits, about being realistic with our expectations and with the amount of work needed for a visual novel, and has overall humbled us.

There's one sprite remaining, the LI's expressions, plus one CG and finishing the backgrounds that need a bit more polishing. That and editing the script into its final state and code it accordingly.

With that being said, I want to be positive and say the demo may be ready for April - May, but I don't know if that'll be possible. We made the mistake of being too excited and too positive when it came to the work we would be able to do, and we apologize for that. We are still learning and we hope you can still support us and make this journey with us as you have been doing since we started.

Still, the demo WILL release this year. That is for sure. As we keep working —and the team has been working very, very hard— we'll decide when the demo will release, giving it time to be beta tested, sent to streamers who are interested, etc.

So the main objective of this year is...

✦ Release the demo!

Obvious, right? But with it comes some smaller goals!

✦ Code the script!

The editing process is going well —thanks to Allie who works tirelessly, honestly— so I hope I can step on the gas and get those corrections done as soon as possible!

✦ Finish all the assets!

As soon as Raquel is done with the CGs, we'll start working on the expressions together (I have already been toying with it) and the remaining sprite. Astro will finish the remaining backgrounds!

✦ Open a casting call for our LIs!

We want the demo to be at least partially voiced. When the whole script is done and more or less coded, we'll open a casting call to give our LIs what will be their official voices for the whole game. What an adventure!

✦ Open our steam page!

Pretty self-explanatory, but there it is!

What a year, huh? We have worked so much and so hard while studying, and that studies are now over. This year has been one of self-discovery, of new challenges, of some goodbyes and some new faces and friends. My only wish for 2024 is for it to be gentler to everyone. Hopefully we can all heal from whatever hurt us in 2023, laugh a lot with our loved ones, and learn more about ourselves and our lives in this 2024! 💜

ANYHOW FUCK YEAH I LOVE LIAM

he's!!!! so good!!! he was what got me into monprom (well, him and miranda...) for a reason and i still love him sosososo much. my beloved. my darling chewtoy. i want to eat him. i want to shake him until all the stuffing flies out of him and he dies forever. he's my fav and he gives me the cuteness aggression <3

first of all i just love his shitheadedness. like, he's designed to be a character who's easy to hate and be annoyed by and for him to do it with that snide confidence while also being so ridiculously ineffective and easily thwarted by his own rules and preferences that he sets that it's like watching him walk into rakes that he sat down. i adore a character who's their own punchline, who makes up their own silly rules and then has to deal with the consequences and just... opts to do that instead of realizing they made up these rules and they don't have to stick with them. or even knowing that, yes, they could just not have to deal with the consequences of their own made up rules, but no they don't want to. no one is making him do this. he has to do it anyways. it's wonderful. there's a reason him and polly are friends and its because of their mutual love of The Bit.

this is also why i rather like his just... entire stupid "holier than thou" attitude that so many other people seem to get tripped up on - because it's directly a farce. of course, it's a farce for the other characters this applies to as well, vera and miranda and damien are all equally as stupid as every other character in this series, but liam feels like the only one who's sincerely self-aware of that. he has gone on the spiritual journey. he has looked into himself. he knows this is stupid and dumb of him and he's not nearly as smart as anyone, especially not himself, makes him out to be. he will still act like it though.

why. why is he doing this. i mean part of it is, yeah, he doesn't actually want to let go of it and move on, but he has the flimsiest excuses for that and he knows it. but also i think he's just having a good time with it, tbh.

i've already mentioned before how liam is a confirmed masochist, and he's also among the characters who most talk about their fetishes, which is how i know this. he spends so much time talking about what he's into. you blackmail him and it's almost certainly a sex thing for him. as much as horny things come up, especially with other characters like polly, there's more detachment on their side, more plausible deniability. i like that liam just... lacks that. there's no plausible deniability about what he's getting out of this.

and god i just - i love characters where we can tell they're having a grand ol' time too, yaknow? this is also why i like miranda, where you can tell that she is playing up her own dramatic nature because it's fun for her (or she's using it to manipulate someone else), but liam absolutely goes the furthest with this. there's an aspect where he's so image-obsessed that he willfully becomes a parody of himself, parodying his own behavior and playing with it through the ups and downs, and this sets him out from all the other ROs to me. he's the character who most feels like there's a possibility that he's actually not having a bad time during failed events, and i LOVE that as just something on the table.

and the lore! the liam lore!! connecting him back to my dearest underutilized, underappreciated, underloved side characters, the coven!!! just... adding in his guilt and his effective need to make up for his past, for all that he's done, the suggestion that he's purposefully picking harmless things to do and a harmless personality for himself to inhabit on top of everything above? MWAH, wonderful, gorgeous, no further notes needed. i do still prefer him more with faith than joy exactly, but honestly this matters so much less to me than the complicated emotional milieu all of it leaves behind all the same.

the way that it mixes in with his genuine care of his friends and the way that he seems to act like the mom friend, fretting and worrying and caring about the others even if he tries not to show it. the way that liam can act as both as silly as everyone else, as much a part of the chaos as everyone else, and also as the straight man, as someone who is trying to maybe suggest them slow down a little. mwah mwah mwah. everything is so wonderful about liam it's genuinely hard to pick a favorite, he just has so much going on and such a rich inner world that it's hard to really have a bad time with him involved. i also just love his friendship with miranda and GOD i love how they all feel like friends. love it. love it so so much.

honestly i think the worst thing about liam is how much the latter games end up flattening him and making him boring, sticking way too much to the stereotypes and fanon, which should be considered a crime for a character that you just want to see flounce around no matter what happens to him.

hm. Well, I'm currently at Uni, so I'm learning a lot of things in my actual meatspace life. Today I went to lecture and learned about successful seed propagation (ensues, a 1-hour lecture about optimum moisture regimes for petunias).

In my personal life, I've just started reading Colonizing Nature by Beth Tobin, which is a long criticism of British colonialism exclusively through the lens of botanical collections and illustrations. I've only just started, but its got some really interesting stuff so far.

The only other interesting thing I learned recently was how ovipositors worked. I had always wondered, and finally curiosity got the better of me.

ivy ⇢ what are your ‘tells’ for your emotions and moods? how can someone tell you’re happy, annoyed, upset or tired?

I am really, terribly blunt and pretty bad at hiding my emotions in general, so people can almost always tell. Online I think its a bit harder, because it's much easier for me to hide things online due to the barrier of written language.

aloe vera ⇢ what’s something (mundane) you really want to experience in life?

Oh, god. I mean, I've never been in love, so I guess that would be a start? That seems to be a thing a lot of people have experienced, for better or worse. Not to opine on the mundaneity of love, because I certainly don't think that love is mundane, but there's a weird separation between people who have and people who haven't, and that has been recently reinforced as the semester has begun again and I've started making new friends. Nobody really gives a shit really, but it's always strange to once again be in the middle of people's partners and boyfriends and crushes and wanting wanting wanting for love. Like, I know that I (some of the time) Write Porn on the Internet, and am therefore fulfilling some stereotype, but damn it would be nice! It would be nice.

Other than that, I'd love to be a homeowner. Gimme a white picket fence. I tire of careerism. I was raised in a church; I know how good of a househusband I could be. I am tired of living in unprecedented times. I'd very much like to be at peace in the world. I don't think that's really mundane though.

@whimsquirksandstuff I was watching the Coleydoesthings Barbenheimer video (huge fan btw) and just got inspired to create this post about Idv, of course focused on Lucky Guy, my beloved.

Lucky would absolutely go see both movies, but with different groups of people. He’d go see Barbie with Helena, Demi, Jose, Kevin, Margaretha, Emma, Tracy, Luca, Vera, Melly and Alice, wearing his maid dress and everything.

Then, after getting changed in the bathroom, he and a few others from the Barbie crew (Tracy, Luca, Vera, Melly and Alice), he’d go see Oppenheimer with Servais, Freddy, Shiyi, Norton, Orpheus, Edgar, Ganji and William.

While others would have a arguments in a variety of heated-ness about which movie was better, Lucky would definitely like both equally. The serious atmosphere of Oppenheimer is thrilling to him, yet the Campy aesthetic plus the actual symbolism of Barbie are things I think he’d really dig.

Akutagawa: “Chuuya, I don’t understand what—“

Chuuya: *from behind his door* “I-I’m fine! Just go have fun at the beach and leave me alone!

Atsushi: “Is everything ok..? I heard yelling.”

Akutagawa: “Jinko? Stay out of Port Mafia matters! Besides, Chuuya won’t let absolutely anyone in his…”

Chuuya: “Is that Atsushi? Move! Let him in!”

Chuuya whips open the door to his pitch black room as his hand flashes out to grab Atsushi and drag him in to the darkness…

Akutagawa: “… room.”

Akutagawa feels slightly hurt because he’s been trying to get Chuuya out all morning but that Jinko was let in immediately…

Atsushi: “Mr. Chuuya?! W-what’s wrong—“

Chuuya: *flips on the light* “Just l-look at me!”

Chuuya is losing skin from head to toe due to his severe sunburn. Chuuya begins to quite literally tearfully recite his troubles…

Chuuya: “M-my skin finally started— ouch! peeling from that sunburn that b*stard Dazai caused! I-I’m all out of aloe vera and every gift shop around here is— ah, d*mnit! s-sold out. It hurts to walk, talk, sit, eat… I can’t do anything!”

Atsushi: “I-I’m sorry this is happening! But what can I do? And why didn’t you let Akutagawa in…”

Chuuya: “I’m a Port Mafia executive! His superior! I can’t let him see me like this— ow! I’m shedding my own skin all t-thanks to his beloved Dazai!”

Atsushi: “So what can I—“

Chuuya: “Find me aloe vera! T-this pain is unbearable! I don’t care how much money you want, but I’ll pay you anything!”

Vera-Ellen (On the Town, White Christmas)— she's a phenomenal and charismatic dancer, I'd say UNMATCHED in terms of movement. She's just hypnotizing, so sharp and musical and she always looks like shes having so MUCH FUN! Furthermore she has a beautiful smile and a silliness/playfulness to her acting I love. Her real life story is somewhat sad and the death of her daughter kept her from blowing up as a bigger star, but the delight she brings to the movies she was in is so memorable!

Have you seen her dance!? Right up there with Grace Kelly for grace and beauty and her tap performances can be jaw dropping.

Her dancing skills are so impressive it makes me forget how to speak. She moves like she’s made out of elastic, and she looks good doing it. Also she has great chemistry with Danny Kaye (RIP to the men’s bracket, he was gone too soon) and is just… stunning. Deserves to be known for way more but sadly she had a pretty tough life. But she was so so talented, and I love her.

vera-ellen is one of the most technically skilled dancers to EVER dance, according to fred astaire and others. she had the most beautiful voice, she was incredibly hard working, she was a ROCKETTE at one point AND was on broadway for several years before doing movies and later tv. she was rumored to be dealing with mental health issues her whole life, and she still managed to come out on top. overall an incredible career. and oh my god ladies. her legs. her control. she’s so delicate and lovely whenever she dances, it’s absolutely incredible. she’s always so light on her feet. i could watch her dance forever.

moira can perfectly speak in spanish!! she can't exactly remember her family and many pieces of her past are still a big question mark to her (due to memory loss) so she's left wondering why she speaks the language as if it's her mother tongue. thing is her family (of hispanic origins) spoke the language almost all the time, more than english itself, but she can't exactly remember about this

her full name is moira raquel velez but she doesn't like the name raquel on herself so no one besides her knows that she has a second name

a super fan of vera keyes, begin again is her absolute fave song. when any of the radio stations of the mojave plays it she turns up the volume as high as possible. it makes her quite emotional

on this note. she developed some kind of parasocial crush for vera, so when she discovers about her end at the sierra madre, moira is INCONSOLABLE. it's not that she expected vera to still be alive (a part of her did, tbh. maybe she was a ghoul now, like dean) but her end was incredibly sad for moira

despite her very cheerful and approachable nature and good heart, she's very quick to upset and even quicker to settle disagreements with bullets. the amount of times raul had to interject and stop her from ending a conversation with a gun are countless at this point

hmm... probably the books I loved when I was younger just because I think the joy they brought me at that time in my life is greater than the joy they would bring me now. I'd rather keep the memory I have of the characters and their adventures. some beloveds from my childhood: inkheart/inkspell, the mortal instruments series, a series of unfortunate events (tbh I might reread those at some point though I absolutely adore lemony snicket's writing style)

chamomile: what kind of things do you like receiving as gifts?

oh goodness, I'm the worst person to get gifts for because I never know how to articulate what I want. I try to be very intentional about my belongings so I like receiving things that are meaningful or functional, like something someone made for me or something I needed to get anyway (boring I know). my family is weird about gifts having to be something physical that you keep for a long time but honestly I prefer things I can use and enjoy like candles or food, or spending time doing something together is a great gift in my opinion!

aloe vera: what’s something (mundane) you really want to experience in life?

alright bringing out my soft side for this one, I want to experience some type of routine with a partner. like always sitting together and having tea in the mornings, or taking an evening walk together, or just something that's comfortable and predictable and intimate despite being ordinary. I'm going to leave it at that bc otherwise I'll ramble forever but yeah... something shared and personal and so completely normal
