Stance On: Relationships

Okay, I'm just going to put this up here because I'm seeing a lot of weird, cringe takes on Pike and his relationships, and just the overall discourse is gross.

Everyone is entitled to having their favorite ships, that is across all fandoms, not just Trek. Just because you don't necessarily enjoy what is canon doesn't mean it's wrong and doesn't give you the right to send people nasty hate who may like the pairing. It's 2023 people, grow the fuck up. If you want to have an actual, intelligent conversation/debate about a character, that's fine. But if you come at it calling people shit like N*zis, you're not worth anyone's time.

I'll admit at first I was not a fan of the Batel/Pike relationship, nothing to do with the character or the actor but I thought it was very shoe-horned in the beginning, HOWEVER. As they've started to give more screen time, I'm developing to really enjoy it because it shows that not all relationships are kissy kissy. Real, adult relationships are hard, they're messy, especially with Pike and Batel both being incredibly career driven, they're trying to navigate what a relationship looks like for them. The whole she doesn't eat his food argument is just lazy when if you look at almost any scene with food in the series, it's rare to show someone actually stuffing their face. Yes, they may have a couple but not everyone is eating. Also the weird hate Batel gets over what happened with Una is weird, they're all a part of the same system, if you're calling her a N*zi then by default, what is the Federation? If I'm not wrong, doesn't Una even tell Chris she likes her in an episode after that one?

I'm also a fan of Pike and Una, but let's face it, both of them are FAR too professional to be in an active relationship whilst serving together on the Enterprise. I love RP-ing it, but I don't hold any illusion that they are endgame. Unfortunately, unless Pike finds a way out of it, he's not going to be around much longer and I cannot see him allowing himself to be connected to anyone for that long. That goes for either Batel or Una. I personally don't like the narrative that SNW poses that becoming disabled = death, but Pike being the proud person he is, is going to have a hard time in any relationship when he knows what's on the horizon, he just wouldn't want to force anyone into that, full stop.

And am I seeing people actually think Vina is Pike's soul mate? I know there may be people out there that haven't seen the original series episodes but Pike was captured to be part of a breeding program with Vina for the Talosians to gain pretty much slaves to rebuild their planet. The Talosians even went as far to kidnap Number One and another Ensign to pick a "female of his choosing" since he resisted Vina. He's also ultimately taken to Talos IV really against his will by Spock. (Again this is all very cringe to begin with but this is another rant). This isn't a soul mate story, these are people being held against their will, potentially being forced into a breeding program. I've actually had some incredibly lovely threads with Vina and have had ships with them in the past but not without a lot of conversation, and a lot of development that hasn't historically been shown in the show.

The bottom line is, I don't care if you don't like who I ship or don't ship with, I'm not going to come at you if you don't like Pike/Batel, but I ask that you have a little maturity and not have a meltdown and spew your hate towards others. If I see that shit on my page, consider yourself blocked. You're absolutely entitled to your opinions but be mature about it.

In regards to RP-ing with my Pike, I go off of chemistry. If there's something there we want to develop I'd be more than likely the first person to suggest a ship. I'm equally open to anyone who wants to explore a relationship with him, just know the man will be a hot mess. Let's just be a bit more adult about these things? Thanks.

Dosage of Serotonin by inksteady

Reflection

The book that I chose is the "Dosage of Serotonin" by inksteady a writer in wattpad.com. I choose this story it's because I just love how the story affect me and gave me a lesson.

So the story starts with a girl name Vina who's a professional psychologist. She has a problem with her family, they didn't go along well with them. The only person she got along with is her brother's son name Mark. One day, their family get messy, her mother run away in their house, her sister took her savings money to save her boyfriend who is in the hospital, and her older brother and father who blame her why her mother run away. Her father was fuming mad, they hurt Vina physically and her nephew saw it. At that time, Mark was very affected by how their family is. He then decided to kill his self, when Vina knows she was so dissapointed to her self because being a professional psychologist but she could not able to help her own nephew and saw what he is been going through.

I realize that people were so good in hiding their feelings and emotions, no matter how happy we see them outside, we don't know the struggles they are battling in inside their head. Behind their smiles and laugh is their crying soul who is in need of help. In the story, Vina being a professional psychologist failed to see the pain that her nephew feels. She knew that they have this big problem because of their family but it never cross in her mind that Mark will kill himself to end the pain he is feeling.

So I thought that, it is hard to help someone who doesn't seek help and just go with the battle on his/her own. We can't hope for others to help us without communicating with them. Sometimes, we need to speak up to somehow release that heavy feeling in our heart and that maybe it will help us lessen the heavy feeing we have in our heart. Depression isn't a joke, people committed to end their own life struggling endlessly that they want to end that pain as soon as possible. If we can't find someone who can listen to our pain, we can talk to God and surrender all our sorrows with him. We have him, he is all ears he can be our shoulder we can lean our head on him. He is always there he is not leaving us he is just waiting for us to rant all our pain and he will help us slowly lift up and give us a courage that no matter what might happen today or tomorrow, someday everything will be fine.

The battle field is endless, but we should keep going and with the faith of God we can make it, no matter how hard life is things will be soon fine and the problems you have in your life is the reason why you will be more brave and have more courage in facing new challenges in life.

La modul cel mai serios, nu mai rezist și-mi vine să-mi iau zilele numai ca să scap. 🍓- kenny was born in brooklyn but he grew up with his dad and older brother in clinton (or hell’s kitchen) in nyc! kenny’s brother was an insurance investigator and his dad passed when he was younger but he was a chef at one of the restaurants there! and after that his brother raised him!

🍓- sure he’s a bit nonchalant but the boy is SMART got a full ride scholarship to nyu tisch (a VERY good acting school in ny uni!) and his minor was in biology! he needed a fall back plan in case the acting thing didn’t work! WHICH BOY IT DID. got his big break when he was 19 and 5+ oscars later is one of the TOP actors 🥺! (still cackling that this boy had not been told once but TWICE no wait charlie brought it up too that means THREE TIMES that this was to be a cast member not a role and yet he still walked on thinking he was in a role ajdmksk we love a dork that doesn’t read the directions! following directions? in this decade? never ✨🥴!

🍓- at the beginning of the story kenny had throughly decided that arthur is his arch nemesis! it mainly started from one of the cast mates pointing out how ALIKE they looked asddkdk he’s petty. and kenny just wasn’t a big fan of his attitude? so the two have this trading playground insults relationship throughout and in time these two will become besties who go to parties sip fancy wines and trade playground insults while making fun of the guests in no time babeyyy ✨😌!

It’s crazy how Julie Plec and Co found a way for all these irrelevant characters like Matt and Caroline to attend the Mikaelson’s ball but they couldn’t find a way for Bonnie to attend. The writers wrote Rebekah to have a little crush on Matt, the writers wrote Klaus to randomly have a crush on Karoline. But the writers couldn’t find a way to make Kol or Klaus or hell even Esther invite Bonnie?

Even though it is canon that Kol likes to align himself with witches. Even though Bonnie and Abby are descendents of Esther’s-mentor Ayana and were an integral part of Esther’s plan that night. The writers really couldn’t be bothered to include the WOC at the ball even though it would’ve actually made sense for them to be invited more than for Matt and Caroline to be invited.

While Julie Plec was whinning about Kennett shippers and saying Bonnie shouldn’t be with crazy Kol, ships like Mabekah and Klaroline were getting arcs, even though Rebekah is prone to violent jealousy and has even planned to kill Matt to get back at Elena, and even though Klaus is fucken violent and has violent outburst with Caroline.

Plec and Co have always been okay to tweak personalities and make vampire/human ships “work”. Kol and Bonnie couldn’t be explored but the writers sure made Kol and Bonnie’s white counterpart a thing on TheOriginals.

Suddenly when it comes to Bonnie it’s “impossible” and “morally wrong” for her to have her sexy bad boy at her feet.

you basically summed up all our rants related to the infamously racist (i’m just gonna call it a downright racist episode, at this point) 3x14 and the subsequent marginalization of bonnie, in spite of the Originals being connected to witches in so many ways. i bet at one point the writers regretted having made bonnie a witch, because yeah they needed their magical negro, but shit, they (julie) didn’t want her witchiness to distract the supernatural guys from the white trophies. it was so blatant and gross. and god, the kol/d*vina thing...i would’ve liked that dynamic, but every time i look over gifsets i just get a bad taste in my mouth because it’s so obvious it’s the kol/bonnie storyline that they couldn’t even imagine doing with bonnie at the helm. their imagination stopped where bonnie began, it’s...really disheartening. and yeah, the “bonnie is too good and pure for these boys” is julie’s favorite get out of jail free card (see also her infamous and “well-intended” tweet about black women having to save the world, sigh)

@jenojam: okay, this is gonna be a massively greasy message so be warned! Anyway, it's nearly impossible for me to list only 3 things i love about Vina because I love so many things about her (the list is infinite!) But I'll do my best to pick 3 things. Firstly I love how kind vina is, she is always looking after and caring about other people and it warms my heart! I also love her resilience, vina is incredibly strong and deals with so much, yet she still remains kind and thoughtful and caring towards others and I admire her a lot for that!! Lastly, vina is very funny and sends me so many cute/funny memes or tells me funny stories that make me laugh and always brighten up my day!! Honestly, I could lost many many many more things that I love about my sunflower, but ill stop here as to not overload everyone with cheesiness haha

@ateez-little-star: jas is also a dear friend to me!! I love her passion that she has for planes, hearing her talk about what she's learning or working on is just really cool and you can def tell that she enjoys it!!! I also love her positivity towards others, she's always made an effort to give love to underrated authors and that's so amazing! She's also just a very kind person in general! Lastly, I love how jas has such a welcoming and friendly vibe, like she just gives off very warm and welcoming feelings~

The thing I have always struggled with is yeah in the Clone Wars the Jedi are shown to have a mature and healthy response to their emotions, they grieve but they don't let it consume, they keep a level head even in times of crisis

There is a whole separate point to be made about the disconnect between how the Jedi are shown to handle their emotions and what they teach Anakin (and by extension the audience) about how to handle emotions, but that's not relevant here

It's not the way they handle their emotions that is the issue, it's their actions and responses to situations that has always been my problem

Their actions are uncaring, especially taking into account their connection to the force

These are people who can sense in the force whether or not others are alive and to some extent what's happening around them yet in both Weapons Factory from Season 2 and Rising Malevolence from Season 1, the Jedi are shown to give up on people in a way that clearly assumes they are dead

They give up on Plo and his troopers because they don't believe there is any hope of saving them, and it is not worth risking the lives of others for people who are already dead

Luminara gives up on her Padawan Bariss and Anakin's Padawan Ashoka when they are buried in rebel and encourages Anakin to move on

The problem with both these incidents is the Jedi should know they're alive

Proximity is to a certain extent a factor, it's only the powerful Jedi we see reacting to and being able to sense what is happening with others across large distances

But Luminara is standing pretty damn close to where her living Padawan is, yet she collapsed to the floor as if she has felt Bariss die, this paints her attachment as a bald faced lie, she should know Bariss is still alive but in the face of adversity (which is mild considering the Jedi's ability to lift things with their minds) she gives up, dooming both Bariss and Ashoka to die, in this situation Anakin's response is the correct one, people have tried to save random strangers from building collapses with significantly less certainty that they will find people alive than Luminara has, but she has given up before even attempting to rescue them, her actions become callous and a horrific response to the situation, not because of how she handles her emotions but what she chooses to do in the face of possibly loosing someone

She appears to be so willing to detach herself from others that she will leave you for dead given the slightest provocation

And Plo's situation is slightly more dire, everyone acts like he is either dead or going to die, because they lost contact with him, once again they should know that he is alive because of the force, but they just assume he is dead and are willing to move on based on that assumption

They aren't willing to risk other people's lives based on a fool's errand, but we know the audience know Plo is still alive and so should they

What's more the have one of their best pilots close by, who they could send on a solo mission to scout or maybe attempt to rescue them, they don't have to send a whole fleet because agree that would be suicide, but a small craft flown by a skillful pilot aided by the force would be a lot safer as Anakin himself proves by going against them

They had options but instead, they assume Plo is dead and once again doom Plo and his clones, who have already (in a move that does not reflect well on the Jedi) assumed no one is going to save them, and they would have been right had Anakin, once again, gone against what the Jedi thought was best to rescue them

The Jedi should know that people are still alive so their choice to give up and move on to grieving - even if that grief is expressed in a healthy way - is abhorrent

I can't emphasise this enough, random strangers have done more to save each other in times of crisis, with less certainty of anyone even being alive to save, than the Jedi do for their allies, those they are responsible for, and the people they control, yet it is the Jedi who people expect me to root for

Them managing their emotions well doesn't mean shit in the face of callous disregard for life

After using a pen name in two traditionally published romance novels, my literary historical novel, My MacArthur, got published under my real name. It’s a dream come true, but it also posed a big challenge in marketing and branding. Let me share with you the lowdown on using a pseudonym versus one’s real name as a novelist.

Advantages of a Pen Name

You can write in different genres. When I wrote my first romance novel in 2013, I used a pseudonym—Vina Arno—to separate it from my other works. In the publishing world, there exists a line between genre (such as romance) and literary. I was afraid my non-romance novels would not be acquired by traditional publishers unless I separate them from my genre work. Also, the separation is beneficial in terms of targeting readers; the audiences are different for romance and literary fiction.

On Nov. 1, 2018, my first “serious” novel, My MacArthur, was published by an award-winning small press. It’s a fictionalized account of General Douglas MacArthur’s interracial, May-December love affair with Isabel Rosario Cooper, a Filipino actress, in the 1930s. Its publication came just months after my second romance novel, Finder Keeper of My Heart, was published by another publisher.

There are many other writers who have done the same thing. Mystery writer Agatha Christie wrote romance novels under the pseudonym, Mary Westmacott. Vampire genre writer Anne Rice wrote erotic novels under the pen names Anne Rampling and A.N. Roquelaure.

You can remain anonymous and maintain privacy. Best-selling writers like J.K. Rowling and Elena Ferrante use pen names to be able to write in peace. It worked for a while. Perhaps they were both too famous to remain anonymous. People eventually discovered that Robert Gailbreath was Rowling’s pseudonym for her thrillers. Meanwhile, an Italian journalist revealed that Elena Ferrante was really the translator Anita Raja, though she has not admitted it.

You can start over. When authors fail to sell enough books, they sometimes need to reinvent themselves using a pen name. It happened to Melanie Benjamin, the author of the historical novel, “The Aviator’s Wife,” whose real name is Melanie Hauser. She openly acknowledged that she adopted a pseudonym because her first novels (chick lit), published under her real name, were unsuccessful. The new name gave her a clean slate.

Disadvantages of a Pen Name

It’s a hassle. Adopting a pen name is like changing your last name after getting married. You have to get a new social security card, driver’s license, and passport, and change your name on bank accounts and credit cards. With a pen name, you don’t have to change documents, but you need to establish your new persona in terms of bylines, website, and social media accounts. Needless to say, it requires a lot of patience.

It’s confusing. During the publication of my first romance novel, I communicated with my editor and other staffers at my publishing house using my real name, but all of my documents were marked according to my pen name. On some email lists for authors, my pen name was used.

That was a minor headache compared with the pang of identity crisis I felt when I created an author’s page on Goodreads, Amazon.com, and Facebook. Maintaining multiple accounts using different names requiring slightly different biographies is confusing and inconvenient.

It’s a lot of work. It’s difficult to build name recognition. With a pen name, you have to do it more than once, depending on how many pseudonyms you use. For the past three years, I’ve been building my pen name. With the publication of My MacArthur, I have to do it all over again using my real name.

If you’re thinking of using a pseudonym, be sure to weigh all the pros and cons. Don’t take it lightly because it’s going to affect your journey as a writer.

Terus galama dia deactive gitu, jadilah aku beralih ke wrd, alvn (yg belum nikah),agnostik kah, grescnv,dorip*pu, sampe di vlognya ada vina*aulia jerman gitukan, aing suka. Terus ada vlog diajuga yg nyambung sama vlognya gita ini. Jadilah disitu gue kenal dia (di sosmed). Achso, gue stay tune banget buat liat pemikiran dia, sudut pandang dia dalam beropini yang bikin gue openminded gitukan. Asiklah pokoknya. And u know, kadang vlog atau blognya atau ans nya gue baca bolak balik, kenapa? Soalnya kalimat nya gue belum nyampe. Bwahahahah sedih banget emang aing . Sampai dia, si teteh ini balik ke indo. Sampe masuk buat kategori ytfor change. Gilak dah pokonya. Aku cm bisa bilang, keren, alhamdulillah, seneng gua liatnya. Sampe sekarang, tambah viral dah tuh di wa juga. Sampaaai temen w ngefans jugakan. Hellow. Tapi kok gue ngerasa, ada yang strict gitu. No. I didn’t angry or what. but, gue kok ngerasa its too much. Nah gua, yang dari dulu suka aja gak gitu gitu amat #sombong. aingsih, dulu, masuk grup line g*tasfreunde yang masih 100an bwahahaha, masih awal awal banget, tapi karna isinya ttg berkenalan sana sini, dan aku males, ya udah aku jarang bukan dan akhirnya aku hapus akun line tersebut ekekek. Oke ga nyambung. So intinya? Panjang pangajang ngalor ngidul. Ini adalah keresahan seorang anak di semester awal yang masih di ombang ambing sama yg namanya kepribadian, when ur needed people to motivation ex, parents and friend, ur must have to had some people that what u want, what u like actually inspires u. until ur feel interest and too much to believe you'reself. Dan pastinya nuntun ke jalan lebih positif. Wkwkwk Sebenernya sih risihnya itu, disaat lo tau, apa yang lo suka, apa yg lo anggap baik, apa yg lo namakan akar dr sebuah pohon, tapi lu liat tmn tmn lu cuma liat cantik nya pohon doang. indahnya ranting tersebut atau malah lezat nya buah pohon tersebut. Padahal semua itu tak terlepas dari adanya akar yang kuat. Ngerti?

what i dont think people get with the "it's not my job to educate you" thing is like

if you come to me with a legitimate question like "hey vina i want to know a thing! could you please tell me about...?"

i'll be super pleased and i'll provide you with as much info as i can and give you sources that will explain things even better and we'll have a lovely chat and you'll earn a special place in my heart

but like if someone's being a dick to me, or is difficult and taxing to talk to? it is not my job to have that conversation. i can back out if i want to! i am under no obligation to do things that cause me emotional distress

it's not because I don't have an argument, it's not because i'm a bitch. we all have the right to spare ourselves from unnecessary pain and aggravation

please understand this and don't be a jerk about it

you don't like female muses???

No, I don't think I'd use that as a blanket statement to describe how I feel.

They are lots and lots of female muses that I absolutely adore. I'd list ones that come to mind but I don't want to look like I'm picking favourites if I forget anyone or just simply don't put someone on the list. But suffice it to say that I have plenty of female muses that I'm very in love with.

Unfortunately, though, I HAVE become very picky when it comes to female muses and that's sort of hard to explain but I guess how I'd put it is this

Men come across as being very easy to write because most of us seem to open ourselves up to this idea that there are many many types of men. And it's a good idea, because it's true. There are lots and lots of really incredible male characters in both rp circles and the general media, and there are actually SO MANY diverse interesting male characters that we've seen a stunning example of just about every type and we're free to mix and match and create interesting, strong, smart, unique, believable men.

I think that female characters pose a problem because the female for so long has been portrayed as a weaker, secondary character, and we're trying really hard to break away from that. And in theory, that's a really good thing to do, and I think it's something that is really important. But I think what ends up happening in that some people try so so hard to fit their character into the Strong Independent Female trope that they end up forgetting to make her human. And then you end up with this shallow, one dimensional thing with some whisperings of a good character design but no real traits to attach you to her and make her lovable. In trying to create stand-out women I think some people end up doing just the opposite--for lots of reasons, sometimes because they avoid giving her any flaws, or the flaws they do give her don't really fit the personality they designed, or maybe the flaws aren't really flaws at all and/or don't come in to play. Whatever the reason, sometimes we end up with characters that seem okay on paper but lack that element of humanity necessary to make them likeable and believable.

I'd say basically my advice to anyone hoping to create a strong female character would be to remember that strength manifests itself in many different ways. She doesn't have to "not need anyone" to be strong. She doesn't have to reject anything--she can, if you think it will add to her character, but if she's going to reject certain standards then have her do so in a believable way, and not just because you think it will make her come off edgier. Women are as diverse and unique as men are, and there isn't one rigid list of characteristics that makes a woman strong and independent and interesting.

Remember, you're writing a human being, not a trope.
