Future Crunch just paywalled their good news for "Energy" and "Technology"??? Which it looks like is about half of all their Good News?? (x)
I'm not particularly surprised because I WAS wondering how they made enough money to stay solvent, but I am dismayed
Partly on my own principles and partly because this kinda feels like it does/should go against their whole ethos??
Like if your big mission statement is "If we want to change the story of the human race in the 21st century, we have to change the stories we tell ourselves" (x) ....maybe you shouldn't paywall those stories???
That sounds very counterproductive and like you're taking access to good news away from a lot of people who need/want to hear it the most??? Esp in people in countries whose currency is much weaker than the US dollar??

jokes that are mean to my readers because they only make sense if you're familiar with the extremely rare out-of-print blacklight edition of journal 3, and even then you've gotta stop and think about it to connect the dots.
Ford said, "I never learned if the aliens I spoke to were all talking about the same thing, a group of things—or if what I thought they were talking about was a simple translation error for some other term."
Dipper scrunched his nose. "'Translation error,' what? Across multiple civilizations?"
"The dimensional translator I received was somewhat buggy," Ford said. "From time to time it would offer wildly incorrect translations for individual words. For instance, it consistently replaced the word 'soccer ball' with soccer ball, of all things. You can only imagine what kind of trouble that got me into."
Dipper blinked in bafflement, opened his mouth, decided maybe this was a can of worms best opened later, and shut his mouth.

Asuka is a tragic figure, a figure of mystery, a wild card, all because the only thing she wants in life is peace and quiet for herself and to feel in control- yet her secret heritage that may be hidden from her for her own protection and the reality that life is unpredictable and will go on with or without you keep ruining that delusion, that vision of how the world is meant to work to her, and she suffers regardless of what she wants, what she does, and how little she understands anything
She was born into a family preaching peace and balance and order while being a creature of violence, and puts a dozen mental locks and excuses over this truth to justify giving into her impulse for fighting by pretending she's justice when she does it
She keeps trying to build a place of safety but she's using sand and life is a wave that destroys, yet she stubbornly persists rather than give up, not drowned to the point of self centered suicidal loathing like Jin- there's contrast, where Jin is cloaked in death Asuka stubbornly clings to life and humanity as a normal person in a terrifying world
She's not a fucking narrative clone for Jun's own purpose, Asuka's purpose must be determined by Asuka herself

the experience of being an english and creative writing major writing multiple short stories in a semester for workshop classes is crazy because one moment i will be reading the critique letters i received for my upcoming revision and the next i’ll be realizing that this “original” story i “just” came up with is actually a reskinned danny phantom au prompt i thought up when i was ~14

Hi so I read What Monstrous Gods on the plane
And Ms. Hodge
It would be faster
If you just stab me next time
Like seriously you woke up and chose violence
Also the Shakespeare/Hopkins/other references cracked me up. It’s like Ah yes. Dominican.

One less frequently discussed form of procrastination is when you get an essay back that actually got a decent mark, and instead of working on the stuff you have to do for your next looming deadline, you spend an hour re-reading your own essay, obsessed and delighted by your own slightly nonsensical arguments, like a cockatoo admiring and preening itself in the mirror of its cage
