Is it possible that there just happens to be valid things to criticize about FE7, genealogy, and even tellius? His criticism of Kaga was that he can't write women. Are you going to defend what FE4 did with Deirdre?
There's a difference between criticizing a game and using that criticism to attack other fans and claim that your own fave is vastly better.
Every FE has issues with writing women, with Tellius being the one setting that's generally agreed to do the best (or least bad) in that regard. Kaga's biggest problems with writing women is that they're either underwritten, like Deirdre and Julia, or subject to gender-specific violence in a way that's only slightly more complicated than the boilerplate 80s/early 90s save-the-princess video game plot. I'd still take those issues over how Houses writes many of its women, which includes
specific fetishes that come off as annoying or pointless if you're not into them (Bernadetta, Kronya)
worldbuilding elements (ex. Ingrid, Hanneman's sister) that are either never fully explored or else flattened out into a general problem with Crests and not that these are in fact examples of entirely mundane misogyny given a bit of additional flavor with the fantasy element
using female characters as rarely-seen plot devices/exposition dumps (Rhea in both games) or denying them agency in key moments in exchange for something cutesy (Edelgard in SB's endgame) or to avoid placing responsibility on them (Edelgard in AG's endgame)
as long as we're including Hopes, adding in a new character whose existence amounts to one extended lesbian joke - one that wears thin even faster than FE10's Heather because Monica has much more screentime
a self-insert fixation that compromises every character but hits the female lead the hardest because her romance with you - that is, you the player - is baked into the story...which is doubly irritating if you're not into women
and for that matter the existence of gender-variable Avatars with identical scripts, which can't have any gender-specific traits (except in gameplay, ironically) because they're simultaneously both.
Many of those are also issues that crop up in the other modern FE games, on account of that whole writing-for-Heroes-whales thing (and while we're at it, isn't that game an absolute mess when it comes to writing women?). To quote a mutual, Deirdre might have the personality of a wet sack of flour, but at least that can be expanded upon or improved in supplementary material or in remakes, and comes with the marginal excuse that you couldn't really point to many female video game characters in 1996 that were written much better. I'd still take that over the off-putting player pandering silliness that drags down so many modern female characters in this series.
FE16 is still very much of a piece with the rest of the franchise, warts and all, and pretending otherwise just to bully other fans who might have other favorite games is just asking to have your opinions disregarded.

I’ve noticed some interesting things in how Ingrid talks about her father that indicate the type of relationship they have.
Tumblr media
First is in her paralogue where she almost ends up married to a not so nice man. She says that her father was concerned that it would “bode poorly for [their] family,” notice no mention of Ingrid’s well being specifically. Ingrid would be the one married to this man so her wellbeing would be significantly more threatened than that of anyone else in her family. Sure, it’s possible he said something about her and Ingrid just didn’t mention that but I don’t see why she wouldn’t say “he was worried for my safety and the wellbeing of our family” or something like that if that was the case. It does make me wonder how concerned he is with Ingrid’s wellbeing or if he’s just hyperfocused on their territory and family’s reputation. One of the most common points used to support her father is how he would starve himself so Ingrid could eat. Which kudos to him for that but at the same time that’s not really enough to be considered a good parent if you drop the ball with everything else, especially if you believe the fan theory about him feeding her because a malnourished girl/woman would be ‘less attractive’ and therefore he’d get less money for her.
The second thing that drew my attention was in the Ingrid Byleth C support.
Tumblr media
Ingrid’s pause here is very important and indicates that she has to think carefully about her words. She makes a very conscious decision here to call him a good person as opposed to a good father like Byleth said. If Ingrid and her father genuinely have a good relationship why did she need to think about it? Why did she avoid complimenting his on his quality as a parent? Then in their B support there’s something even more interesting. (Byleth has two dialogue options, Ingrid responds to both in the same way)
Tumblr media
Ingrid thanks you for calling her father’s actions “awful” and there’s hardly any defense of his actions following it, the most she does is say that he doesn’t not care about her. If he was genuinely a good dad I imagine she would try to defend him in some way. And this isn’t a conversation with a childhood friend who understands the nuance of her family situation and is aware of the good and the bad, this is the first Byleth really hears about her dad and I’m sure Ingrid has enough awareness to realize Byleth is likely forming a negative view on her father. But still, she goes along with it. Furthermore, the comment about Byleth’s statement being ‘a great comfort’ to her indicates that Ingrid doesn’t normally have her feelings validated. It’s no secret that her childhood friend group is dysfunctional and I can see Ingrid feeling like her situation is the ‘least bad.’ Because of this, she likely didn’t receive much comfort from them as children so even just a simple statement from Byleth feels like a lot to her.
Next, I want to look at how she responds to Mercedes’ very similar struggle.
Tumblr media
Kind of strange that her first response is ‘hey, why don’t you just abandon your family’ and she even states that her response is based off her experiences with her father, it makes me wonder if there’s a part of her that wishes she could just run away. Also not a fan of the comment about her father being ‘obsessed with [her] carrying on the family bloodline.’ A lot of conversations about Count Galatea revolve around him wanting to improve his lands for his people, which is of course a noble cause, and that’s why he’s forcing Ingrid into marriage. But Ingrid presents a different explanation here. I’m not saying that her father doesn’t genuinely want the first thing, but there are other ways of fixing this problem as shown by Ingrid’s endings. That leads me to believe a part of the reason he got so obsessed with finding Ingrid a spouse is because he knows that will likely lead to children. The type of people who will pay big bucks to marry a crest carrying woman are also the type of people who are going to want children with her after all. And he saw Ingrid was a very GNC child. Of course, being GNC has nothing to do with whether or not you want children but to Count Galatea this could’ve planted a seed of worry, what if Ingrid has ambitions outside of carrying on the family name? What if Ingrid’s ambitions lead her to have no children at all (and from the lack of emphasis on children in her endings I do believe Ingrid doesn’t have a particular to be a mother). How do you solve this problem? Why, you force her into a marriage by guilting her with the wellbeing of her people and then let her husband force her into becoming a mother and suddenly you’ve got exactly what you wanted and still have the moral highground.

Episode 4 of Partner Track. I am racing through these! If I make it past the halfway point of this episode, that's basically a personal best. 👟👟👟
The episode opens with Ingrid wondering if things are progressing too quickly with Nick. He tries to tell her that he loves her, but she kisses him before he can so she can dodge the awkwardness that would ensue.
Her concerns are valid, but this is also a non-problem. Nick is so benign and perfect, she could just tell him they're moving too fast, and he'd probably hug her, give her a foot massage and hand-feed her chocolates for the rest of the night.
Rachel has an amusing subplot where she's having to recruit people for the annual company talent show. I'm going to tuck away the horrifying realisation that I'll have to sit through footage of this talent show in a later episode. That's a problem for future me.
I also sense a slow burn romance brewing between her and Paralegal Justin. 👀 Okay, I'll bite on this one.
I'm sure the ethical issues will come up due to the age gap and imbalance of power. But at least it looks like it's going to go somewhere interesting.
Tumblr media
Tyler has his own subplot dealing with a lawsuit from a disgruntled fashion designer towards a large fashion house. The designer is an insolent dickhead, but Tyler keeps it watchable. He has the best lines and delivers them impeccably. The line: 'No one wants to see your bishop' had no right sounding as funny as it did.

My Review For HOFAS
Ik I forgot to post my review for hofas so here it is. Buckle up its long.
Anyway I LOVED it , as expected. There were some scenes and plot points that I wished were more fleshed out but hey I'm happy with what I got.
What I loved about the book :-
• The story - The book was worth it just for the lore and worldbuilding. It had all the shades of dark and white. And somehow it felt easier to catch up with what's going on compared to hoeab and hosaf where I was clueless lol.
• Crossover - I am so glad that acotar characters didn't overshadow cc ones. I was afraid acotar characters will be given more attention/time than necessary and that didn't happen. Even when they appeared Sarah balanced it with CC's which for me was one of the best moves. She wanted us to realize it's a CC book first and for most.
• Tharion's and Ithan's povs - Now this is something I never thought would happen. I didn't like much of Tharion and Ithan in the previous books but boy did I enjoy reading their thoughts on this one. Their chapters were better than I hoped and I could understand their feelings and reasoning better which I didn't before. Also can we talk about T & S and I & P? That was one of the pairs I did not see coming and I am so on board!
• Characters - I felt the characters were much more fleshed out (even the acotar ones, I mean NESTA HELLO?!?!!). Lidia my baby, Ruhn my da- I mean my another baby, Hunt, Baxian, Tristan, Declan, Tharion, Ithan every single character was more fleshed out and I feel like they got the attention and love they deserved. And the torture scenes? The part where Baxian had to do that to Ruhn? Hunt thinking about Bryce and Lidia's kids? MY HEART DIED AT THAT SCENES!
Now on to my issues :-
• I'm gonna be honest some plot points was a little convenient and felt unnecessary. Like the seed, antidote. It was just too easy? And what was the point of Ariadne and her scenes? Ingrid at least I can say that it was to show Ithan and readers and everyone that not every prime needs to be a Fendyr? But Ariadne? Her scenes counted to nothing. I wished we got more of her.
• Sometimes Bryce came off as a little off putting with her reaction to Hunt's trauma.
Now on to the bonus chapters
• First my favorite Bryce & Hunt POV - Just straight up fluff which I DEVOURED!! Hunt getting scared of Lettuce baby, them celebrating together it was everything my soft heart needed.
• Ruhn & Lidia POV - Again my heart MELTED! I can't believe Sarah wrote a wedding scene 😭
• Bryce, Nesta & Azriel POV - What I got from that was that Azriel is a lightsinger. I mean why else would shadows dance with someone's singing when according to the canon that we got from nowhere, Shadows singing is a bad thing (I'm really sorry I had to 😭). It was nice seeing Nesta, Bryce and Azriel bond over their love for music.
• Bryce & Danika POV - Now I'm gonna be honest it's my least favorite pov but I'm glad we got it at the same time. We finally get to glimpse a little part of Danika we didn't usually gets.
• Ember & Randall POV - Listen I'm not going to form my opinions on any characters based on some pages but Rhys did come off as a little bad and not in a good way. I understand that he and others as well as Nesta had a valid reason for doing what they did but jeez

Taking advantage of your post about being able to send questions about your fics, I've always wanted to know if you have books that inspire you to write OHDH.
You know it's a statement for me to talk about how much I love what you do, but I think your narrative bias is impeccable! Not to mention the references you use in the story which are great.
Tumblr media
Ahhh Maria, bless you and thank you so much for your kind words 🥺 And wow thank you for asking such a great question ❤️
I'll put this below the cut, because it got a bit long lol.
I've read a lot of books specifically as research for OHDH, in the sense of knowing my next chapter was going to be about X subject/place etc. but I didn't know anywhere near enough to be able to write about it well without researching first. I've mentioned a few of the books (fiction and non-fiction) I've used for this in my OHDH trivia post.
One of those books listed in that post, Everyone Knows You Go Home by Natalia Sylvester, was also a big inspiration for including Día de los Muertos in OHDH. The book is set in a Texas border town, follows a Mexican family and covers parental loss and grief (the main character's father-in-law is dead and his ghost visits her every Día de los Muertos to try and fix unresolved conflict with his son), cultural identity, and also the realities of crossing the US-Mexican border. So, it was a bit of a goldmine when I found that lol.
I also read a couple of books by Colombian authors: Like This Afternoon Forever by Jaime Manrique and Fruit of the Drunken Tree by Ingrid Rojas Contreras. They both follow Colombian characters living in Colombia during the 80s. I found these stories really useful in giving context that Narcos just doesn't give, because obviously Narcos isn't told from a Colombian POV. The first one mentioned also has two gay priests who fall in love, but their ending is a sad one (I understand why though, as the author is a gay man who lived through the HIV/AIDS crisis but their partner didn't, so I think this book was him processing his own grief).
In fact, most of the LGBTQ+ books I've read since starting OHDH had sad/bittersweet endings (including Giovanni's Room by James Baldwin, which gets referenced a couple of times in OHDH). I know that's not surprising in the slightest...but in a way, I think reading those books inspired me NOT to do that? There are enough tragic stories about gay/bi men (especially in the 80s/early 90s) already...and whilst they are absolutely valid and serve a purpose and are often based on the author's own experiences, I didn't want to add another.
There are a few books about/set in Madrid I've read for chapter 18 that have been really useful in providing historical context I wasn't aware of, but I don't want to give away spoilers lol, so I'll talk about that in my trivia post once the chapter is done and dusted!
I know you asked specifically about books, but film and TV inspire me a lot as well. Huge shout out to two gay films that have spookily similar premises but very different endings: God's Own Country and A Moment in the Reeds. They're both really atmospheric (God's Own Country is also aptly set on a farm, albeit in England rather than on a ranch in Texas lol) and the way they capture m/m intimacy made me YEARN.
As for TV...I know this is a bit random but Buffy the Vampire Slayer, purely for the way that show uses tropes. I know it's absolutely not the only show to do this, but I did a Buffy re-watch at some point during the pandemic (so probably not long after I started writing OHDH) and remember being impressed by the tools they used to tell stories, particularly dreams/foreshadowing/objects of significance (hello cross necklace, my beloved). I ended up including stuff along those lines in OHDH after I did that re-watch.
I also really wish I'd been able to watch The Last of Us before I started writing this fic lol...I don't think I've ever experienced such extreme writer envy as I did after episode 3 😂 It won't be part of OHDH, but after that episode I was daydreaming about looking in on Javier and Horacio when they're that age and then I made myself cry 😭
By the way, I do know this is all going waaaaay beyond what anyone needs to do to write a fic lol. But in my defence, it serves me right for writing about places/people/events I didn't know much about beforehand lol. And I also love learning new things! And this has been the perfect opportunity to learn but in a more fun way than my school days ever allowed. I've also read a lot more books than I had done in years, so who said pushing your favourite fictional men together like dolls and making kissing noises had to be a shallow hobby? 😂
Thank you once again for sending this, Maria! It's been fun to respond to 😘

There is only one correct way to play Dimitri in Three Hopes
Play like Dimitri:
-break everything whether you mean to or not
-break Areadbhar from one single Atrocity by accident because Blaiddyd keeps activating even though it's SUPPOSED to be 20% chance
-kill every last one of them, good thing you can't damage your allies anyway
-weapon triangle? No, I'm charging straight into the frontlines.

I'm in a mood to think about the Faerghus Fathers helping out with each others' kids. Was Rodrigue the designated babysitter father for the Faerghus Four, who is patient and never gets frustrated when Dimitri accidentally breaks something because he's seen it all from Lambert before? Did Matthias tell silly stories about the things that he did with Lambert in the academy with a wistful look on his face? Could Lambert have emptied out a day or two of work just to take the kids camping, and taught them about cooking over a campfire while Sylvain tries to be cheeky? Gunnar meeting Rodrigue for tea to bring their houses closer in understanding, while Glenn, Felix and Ingrid played games?
There is just so much I want to think about.

I'm not sure how many of my fellow chronic illness pals know this, but when someone says "what are you even stressed about? You aren't even working/studying/whatever daily grind activity, you're just at home lazing everyday", that's not true at all!
You're stressed because your body is trying to keep systems running even through messed up, straight up wrong or otherwise abnormal signals. Different systems are messing with each other and all your little cells are just as frustrated and confused as you are. Your entire body is under a kind of stress that isn't externally applied and people seem to forget that exists a lot.
You're also stressed because the world is moving so quickly and you might be struggling to keep up, or even to cope with drastic world change, or even simply worrying about your own future. You are overwhelmed, it is real, and it is valid.
It is okay to be stressed even if you're not working full time or pursuing your Dreams™️ or studying, even if you're just laying in bed fogging in and out of sleep. Just remember that.

My #1 post of 2022
Today I am appreciating Rodrigue's little hints of playful cheekiness. Even in his 40s, for all his refined noble etiquette and calm maturity, he still has his moments of being funny.
Things as implicit as pointing out that Felix is good-looking, all while unsubtly suggesting where it comes from (him), to things much more explicit, like that line of his when you order him to attack "Come, let us catch them napping!" in a tone that is akin to a child playing a prank with their friends.
Rodrigue really isn't as composed and perpetually elegant as you think. Lambert, Matthias and Rodrigue were once all feisty messes and you cannot tell me that Rodrigue was the only logical, level-headed and reasonable one. Matthias? Would throw hands and joke around, but is strategic in getting things done. Lambert? Would throw hands and skip classes from time to time, but cares about others and knows how to lead. Rodrigue? Would joke around and enable his friends' dumbasssery, but knows how to be decisive and assertive when it matters. They had brain cells. They just chose not to use it, as teens tend to do.
Though, now that makes me sad, considering how Sylvain, Dimitri and Felix are all comparatively much less carefree than their fathers were in their time. That somehow for all that they present, it's more than clear still that the future weighs on their mind as much, if not more than the present does.

When they came out.
A combined result of Coming Out Day (even though it was yesterday for me) and Feeling Too Crappy To Do Anything Else Today.
If you’re queer and you’re not out for whatever reason, please know that you’re valid and valued and nobody else’s perception of you defines you 🖤 I considered telling my own story here but it felt weird tacking it onto an OC post so maybe I’ll post it separately later, but I’m not sure yet.
CW: vague mentions of internalised queerphobia in Felix’s and Elliott’s stories.
Shayne (bisexual, graysexual)
The first person he comes out as bi to is Lucy (known at the time, to him, as Miss Roads, the school guidance counsellor) when he’s fifteen years old, and he only does that because she openly shares with him that she’s a lesbian. Later in life, when he’s about 20, Rin teaches him about the asexual spectrum, and he spends a few months agonising over it, but eventually he tells Charlie he thinks he might fall somewhere between asexual and demisexual, too.
Charlie (gay)
He’s known he was gay for as long as he can remember, and spent his entire childhood nervously dropping hints for his parents to pick up. By the time he’s 13, Ingrid says something to him along the lines of, “You’re not allowed to close your bedroom door when you have boys over, okay?” and he’s just so relieved and happy that he hugs her and says, “Okay, Mum.”
Rin (asexual and aromantic)
She doesn’t find out that the aromantic or asexual labels exist until she starts college (age 19), and as soon as she hears the words, she’s knows she’s always been both. For about a year, she happily comes out to everybody who will listen - both because it becomes a hyperfixation for her, and because she hopes it’ll help someone else, someone like her, realise who they are a bit sooner than she did. But the first person she officially comes out to is Claudette, approximately 10 seconds after Claudette tells her what aro and ace mean. (This scene is actually canon, and you can read it here!)
Felix (bisexual)
This poor boy actually didn’t come out to anybody until he met Elliott and was sure that Elliott returned his feelings. He’s bi, but has always felt a stronger attraction to men, and he always feared how his parents would react - most likely, he’d have been accused of seeking attention, or purposefully trying to embarrass his father. The Aldridges don’t question sexuality at all, so he never officially has to come out to any of them. So the first time he ever comes out is to Kazuhito, when Felix is around 24 earthly years old and about a year and a half into his half-vampire life.
Elliott (gay)
Having grown up in a considerably less progressive time period, Elliott was used to hiding his sexuality up until he met Ryan. He’d also gotten used to seeing the people in his life die or leave on a regular basis, so he’d never built a strong enough connection or felt secure enough to tell anybody. For a while, he didn’t know that Ryan was married to a woman, and while they were in the process of discussing how Elliott would become a half-vampire of Ryan’s strain, and how she would be his Elder and mentor him, he begins to feel very aware of how permanent this arrangement would be. He solemnly tells her that he feels obligated to let her know this particular detail about him - that he’s gay - and tells her that if she wants to change her mind about taking him on, then he’ll completely understand her decision. Ryan just looks at him with a blank expression for a long moment before lifting her hand to show him her wedding band, and says, “I have a wife. Have I not mentioned that thus far?” and Elliott is basically at the point of passing out from stress and shock and he goes, “Well, no?! I think I would have remembered if you’d mentioned that thus far!”

For the ask game: FE3H ( or Amphibia if someone already asked ) 💖
No one has done fe3h yet but you can guess where this is going I'm sure XD I'll keep amphibia in mind for next time !!
Honestly I love all of my students so much, they're all so unique and quirky in their own way, but I'd have to say Ferdinand cause he tries so hard to be a good person all the time and to challenge his worldview and that makes me so happy 🧡
Need i even say it. Ofc it's Edelgard. She was something I needed and still need and she inspires me a ton to keep doing my best and assert myself and do what I think is right❤️
Rhea is the character i dislike the most in terms of what she does (even though she's had it incredibly hard herself of course and I understand that) but she's a very good character still so there's that... I wrote a whole post about the patterns of abusive behavior between her and byleth sometime ago which sum up a lot of the unease I feel towards her (though her fans are totally valid, keep stanning the cool dragon lady ! 🐲). Also. Thales. Bitch.
Edeleth. Two people who were made for someone else's goals/to be someone else/to be tools rising above their circumstances and breaking out of their respective abusive relationships thanks to the power of the found family trope ? All of that while being deeply morally grey which makes it all the more interesting ? Count me the fuck in
Favorite friendship ? Mmmmmh.... I love Ferdie and Bernie's friendship but also Ingrid and Ashe's but also Raphael and Marianne- they're all so pure in their own way !
"When humanity stands strong and people reach out for each other, there's no need for gods." or "I didnt betray you or her. I never believed in you from the beginning" simply because of how SAVAGE the line is
I always do my best to spare everyone but Edelgard dying sends me crying because once I get attached to a character to that point it's over
Same answer because while the other routes are cool and totally valid, Edelgard just represents something huge and very important to me ❤️

Aw thanks for asking!
16. Rank the Church of Seiros characters from your favorite to least favorite.
I love them all, lower placements don’t mean I don’t enjoy them! I go from “love” to “like” at 7th place I think.
1. Rhea / Seteth (I love dragons in FE, and they DID NOT DISAPPOINT. It was funny to see people starting with Three Houses not realising they’re obviously dragons with millennia of trauma. Azure Moon is my favourite route and I’m so glad it’s one where Rhea retires happily… And Seteth is such a refreshing adult advisor during the story. (Is he one of my favourite Byleth ships in the game? Who gave you that idea?))
2. Cyril / Flayn (obligatory recruitments, no objection. I adopted them. I wrote a whole fic for him too. I love how they don’t let their past define them (and they’re so blunt it’s hilarious))
3. Manuela (she is so funny and caring… her support with Cyril leaves me dead every time, and the one with Flayn is so honest)
4. Gilbert (I’ll fight the deadbeat dad allegations, he’s a great character with understandable flaws and failings)
5. Hanneman (his lore supports with Hubert, Edelgard, and his character in his Dorothea supports are great! We need cool older characters!)
6. Catherine (so cool and nuanced, her devotion to Rhea is not as single-minded as people make it out to be. Her supports with Ashe, Ingrid, and Caspar where she tells them what knighthood really is are so GOOD)
7. Alois (he’s our buddy!!! A great person all around, but not as deep as the others above)
8. Shamir (I hate how much more popular than Catherine she is, she’s more cliché as the aloof sniper… T_T but I still like her!)
9. Jeritza (I don’t like how slow he talks… but the Death Knight is a fun challenge)
10. Anna (let’s count her anyway, but damn she might as well not be here)
19. Rank the Golden Deer from your favorite to least favorite.
Again I don’t dislike anyone. The bottom four may change depending on mood?
1. Lysithea (my first out of few recruits I made on my first BL playthough, I related to her a lot! And her supports exposed all of Edelgard’s motivations in a route where you’re not meant to find out… in my first TS Monastery exploration XD)
2. Lorenz (love his growth and didn’t dislike him in White Clouds. He always makes valid points, is hilarious, and is a great noble at heart)
3. Claude (it’s complicated)
4. Leonie (a MVP and a true strong female character)
5. Ignatz (as artists we sometimes relate too much, and I cringe at myself XD)
6. Raphael (when looking deeper, he’s dealt with trauma the best in the entire cast, and I respect that)
7. Hilda (she’s fun, but IRL? Would I like her as much? Her loyalty and friendship to Claude raise her up)
8. Marianne (her depressed gimmick is less endearing than Bernadetta’s, sometimes treating it less seriously would make it less repetitive. I love her evolution though. But I always struggle choosing her class, and I don’t want to make her my dancer!)
As a bonus, I’ll say my favourite dancer is Annette, because hearing her say “I’m your girl!” before she dances melts my heart every time!
I’ll ask you 7 in return if you feel like it!

I think the funniest thing about fe3h is how much people hate these characters. The game has some serious writing issues, but even ignoring that, I still don’t understand the rage a lot of people have. I like Edelgard and Dimitri even though I side with El’s philosophy. I dislike Rhea the most but don’t hate her, she’s just fucking nuts. People will literally compare Edelgard to hitler, which is very inaccurate and also doing way too much. Seriously, the holocaust isn’t a light comparison to make toward anything. Be accurate at least. It’s not even a tumblr problem it’s everywhere, youtube, Reddit, etc. No side is totally right or wrong, but people will jump through hoops to bash/support someone.
Edelgard did some morally dubious things and better writing would’ve had someone call her out. Like I understand why, but the people she has around her are seriously messed up, though I understand that she has to play the field. People think that El should be able to enact continent wide change without war, but peaceful means have rarely worked throughout history. Maybe it could’ve been nice for the three house leaders to join up and strong arm Rhea into retiring and takedown TWSITD, but that’s a writing flaw. Like slavery didn’t end peacefully. Also, TWSITD has nukes. I don’t think El had that much power over them, clearly. A real discussion on Remire village would have been a great support.
Dimitri is a mass murderer who killed indiscriminately. Like everyone is, but I really didn’t want to kill those thieves. Still love him, but he was creeping me out. The blue lions are my babies the way the black eagles are, but it’s weird that Dimitri is okay with a lie being told to the populace. Sothis hasn’t been doing anything for like a millennia. That whole convo pre Enbarr was so bad. El could have been forthcoming with something, anything. Dimitri just seemed to be on the opposite side because.
The church is shady and built on multiple lies. Rhea has gone through some serious stuff but she has done and enabled a lot of harm. I understand her grief, but I don’t think it warrants a fake religion, upholding or at least not stopping the crest system, being able to execute people instead of the local rulers doing it, child soldiers, experimentation with the end goal of replacing the person with Sothis, and revising history. I don’t think Rhea is evil, she just doesn’t change anything? Or really just upholds crappy systems instead of grieving.
Edelgard is an imperialist, it’s the 12th century
I don’t know what hate has been thrown toward Dimitri, but the boy has schizophrenia and psychology doesn’t exist.
Haven’t played verdant wind yet, but I think “it’s the 12th century” is still a pretty good catch all excuse.
I admit bias here, I have nothing good to say about Rhea. Woman is creepy. I do like Cyril, Flayn, and Seteth though.
If these characters were perfect, there would be no story. They all have flaws and make mistakes. Each have a valid perspective, well maybe not Rhea
The only characters I can see people justifiably hating are Sylvain and Ingrid. A sexist, womanizing creep, whose depth doesn’t negate that, and a racist. (Okay, that’s just pure bias) Ingrid was really justifying genocide and basically called Dedue, “one of the good black people”
At the end of the day, this game is great for discussion, but these characters aren’t real. Like some heated debate is fun, but a lot of you seem to take this personally.
Edit: if you are replying to this post arguing for something, I do not care. None of these characters are uwu babies and it’s fine to disagree. That is the point of this post. I don’t care if you hate Edelgard and want Rhea to curb stomp you, or vice-versa, just stop insulting each other and making weird arguments.

So I’m still living for your posts every day and I thought I should contribute! Could you maybe do headcanons on how the BL house would respond to their so returning from being kidnapped during the war? Sorry if this is too specific!
reactions to their s/o being kidnapped during the war
fire emblem three houses: blue lions
Tumblr media
happy pride month everyone!! you’re all valid every month of the year!!
& thank you for 490 followers 😭😭 i’m so close to 500 !!
Tumblr media
DIMITRI
if you thought he was mad before, you ought to see him now
goes absolutely feral. more mad than he already is, as much as i hate to say it - he’s torn apart the entire monastery and he’s ready to advance to the town
everyone is just as worried as he is, but they can’t stand to watch this man fall apart for the second time
is the head of the search party for you, all battle plans thrown aside - he must be the person to find you and take you back
once he finds you, you aren’t allowed out of his sight for the rest of the war, and he becomes very fiercely protective of you from then onwards
DEDUE
much like dimitri, he also drives himself insane, except his is a lot more internalised. if you know him well, then you can probably tell that there’s a lot going on in his head
blames himself for your disappearance and won’t allow anyone else to take the blame for it.
goes by himself to find you, storming out of the monastery at midnight - of course, the rest of the blue lions and a few soldiers follow out behind him without him realising
when he finds you and takes you back, he gives you space, of course (he’s afraid he’ll come off as too clingy), but he’s always in the area to protect you if you ever find yourself in trouble again
SYLVAIN
is downright devastated and cannot make himself come out of his room due to how genuinely upset he is
like dedue, he blames himself fully for not being there to protect you, and for being selfish enough to let you go
of course, he’s at the front of the search party, still wiping tears from his eyes
holds you very tightly in his arms when you both get back - he’s crying into your shoulder and apologising for being a sad excuse of a man
it’ll take him a while to come back to his senses, but he’ll always stay right by your side from then onwards
FELIX
tries to act unbothered but literally everyone can see how bothered he actually is
even dimitri pointed out that there’s a light that seemed to have disappeared from his eyes, and that he doesn’t hold himself with a good posture any more
runs out in the middle of the night once he discovers where you are, yelling and screaming at the people who try to follow after him
his screaming probably alerts the guards surrounding the area you’re being held in, but he’s more than happy to just knock them all out and storm right through the doors
once you’re home safe and sound, he starts apologising, his entire body shaking from how hard he’s trying not to completely break down on you
ASHE
when everyone discovers that you’re missing, his first response is just to not believe them - after all, there’s no chance you’d go missing, right?
once he comes to terms with the fact that you’re not just playing some sick game of hide-and-seek with him, he breaks down then and there, and everyone has to just help him get back on his feet
leads the team trying to find where you are, and all of his suggestions are extremely helpful - you’re found within days
also won’t leave your side for a very long time because he just doesn’t want to lose you again. he repeats this fact to you every night when he walks you back to your room
MERCEDES
doesn’t know what to do with herself. you going missing and being kidnapped was never a possibility in her mind, so for a few days she’s completely shaken
the mood is dampened in the blue lions - because you’re missing, obviously, but the ray of sunshine that was mercie has also dimmed
is right by your bedside the second you come back, her hands holding yours and her face in the crook of your neck - she can’t bring herself to physically let you go
won’t let anyone else attempt to tend to your wounds and insists on doing it herself. of course, she apologises verbally, but she uses her healing skills to try and make up for it too
ANNETTE
doesn’t cry in front of anyone because she knows that she and mercie are supposed to be the happy ones in the house - she bursts into tears every time she comes back to her room and sees some of your things in there though
annette is one of the more rational people in the house too, so she waits until everyone knows where you are to leave. she runs ahead of everyone else and is excellent at motivating people
takes down any and all soldiers waiting inside and outside of the place you’re being held in. nobody’s ever seen her do this much & they certainly aren’t complaining
her face whilst mercilessly killing all soldiers guarding you was fierce, but she bursts into a smile the second she sees you - there’s tears, of course, but she’s more happy to have you back than anything else
INGRID
is in charge of the strategy to find you & literally puts forward all the ideas. nobody else has to do anything
her face doesn’t change, and is held in the same blank expression until you’re found. nobody has seen her cry or look distressed and it’s scary
has an even scarier look to her when she’s charging into the place you’re being held in and the soldiers literally move out of the way for her
breaks down once she finds you and everyone has to tear her away from you in order to tend to your wounds

Okay, there were a lot of egregious things in 50, don't get me wrong, but just WHAT is this man's obsession with every single named woman thinking she's ugly and wanting to be called beautiful? Not only does Woobiegard go on about it ALL THE TIME, he adds it to Annette's FAMILY woes, and when Ferdinand airs Marianne's business, I thought he hesitated to finish because he was going to reveal he heard her say she wanted to be killed, but no! It's about, GASP, how ugly her crest makes her feel!
I KNOW
At this rate it's just so... mind-bogglingly lazy.
Woobiegard
Marianne
Rhea
Lysithea
Dorothea
Annette
Ingrid
KRONYA
Byleth
Bernadetta (this happens eventually lol happened to see this when searching "ugly" in the fic)
All of these women have expressed, one way or another, that they either feel ugly, long ever so much to be beautiful, or both. Oftentimes with it being directly said verbatim that nothing would make them happier than being seen as beautiful. Of the Strike Force, every single woman besides Petra views themselves as ugly, and we even have to know that women outside of Woobiegard's group feel ugly without someone to constantly and endlessly reaffirm how beautiful they are. If we include all women that we’ve seen the POV of, that number increases by... one person, Hilda.
(TANGENT TIME: Woobiegard LITERALLY NEVER SHUTS THE FUCK UP over how *~beautiful*~ all the women around her are and it's annoying as shit how often the word crops up. Easily most of the time it’s Byleth, but most of the others have it said about them too, and like sometimes the word beautiful will appear three times in one passage. What are synonyms)
Cap'n can so rarely come up with a conflict for a female character to go through that isn't "Men Bad," "Me Feel Ugly," or, when he's feeling daring, "Me Feel Ugly because Men Bad." The writing is almost hilariously sexist and also, like I said, just plain lazy; TEN CHARACTERS all constantly feel ugly and all need to have their *~beauty~* confirmed and validated by others on a 24/7/365 basis, else their dreaded and endless feelings of ugliness - as we all know, the worst possible thing for a woman to feel - come back and consume them once more.
And, like, sure, maybe you can get away with (a watered-down version of) that with characters like, say, Bernadetta. But EdeIgard? Ingrid? Fucking KRONYA??? Yeah no, at that point it's just "I don't know how to write multiple women having emotional conflicts so I'll just copy + paste the same conflict over and over regardless of whether it actually fits them"

LIONESS
Warnings: Angst, fluff, small violence
Words: 20.130

“Begin.”
Loud clashing of lances can be heard through Garreg Mach hallway.
The red-haired skirt chaser barely able to hear you said it when you rushed him. Sylvain knew that he should focus on his strikes.  He didn’t have time to be impressed at this small, petite girl that is jabbing her lance so fast against him. Devastatingly fast. And strikingly strong. ‘It is such a wonder how a small, petite body like hers held so much power’. That’s the last thing that passed his mind before (Y/N)’s lance has cracked so loudly against his that he thought it might snap. Beautiful, fierce, deadly (E/C) orbs that staring into his soul has captivated the Gautier heir and got him hard knock on his shin, felling him over.
“Whoa there! I yield. You do like it rough, don’t you, (Y/N)?” Sylvain raise his hands on the air with and winks seductively. Rolling your eyes, you put a light tap on his neck at his remarks.
“Though she be but little, she is fierce. (Y/N) is the youngest among us, but she is indeed a Lioness!” Dimitri claps over your third in a row winning for today. You beat Felix in sword and Dimitri in the lance spar.
“That’s what you get for skipping classes, Sylvain. And.. keep up with your solid techniques, excellent moves, and rapid quick footwork, (Y/N). That’s all for our combat class today,” said Professor.
“She’s a few inch shorter than me but she had effortlessly defeated Blue Lions’ strongest lancer and swordsman! That’s my favourite lil sis (Y/N) for you!! ” said Annette giddily. She hugs you in a death grip embrace and sings her silly song.
Everyone are so nice to you, to the point of spoiled rotten! Especially Ingrid and Mercie! They are like your big sisters, always offering their help to ride pegasi and give endless supplies of baked sweets that you love very much. Felix is kinda harsh and always eager to spar with you, but he’s the first person to get angry when someone bullies you because you are so small. So kind, almost feel like a big brother! Dimitri helps you with your late night studies and picking books in the higher shelves on the library a lot. Dedue and Ashe cook dinner together with you on your duty day.
They see (Y/N) as the sweet smol bean that has to be protected at all cost!
“Are you free tonight, Munchkin?” Care to join me to visit the town and get something to eat? I know this little restaurant that has nice dessert! My treat, of course! Think of it as a token of congratulations from me on your brilliance today!” Sylvain put his hand on your shoulder in a friendly gesture and wink seductively.
“Seteth will scold us for sure, Syl! This is the fourth or fifth time we went for a late dinner this week,” you pout at his invitation. “He won’t. I’ll walk you back before curfew as usual. Don’t want my Kitten to get  hurt on her way back. Night walk can be dangerous, you know.”
“Why you are being so nice to me, Syl... Your girls will be upset and kill me for sure.”
“Nah.. I don’t have any! It would be a shame to waste such a beautiful evening alone. Besides, I don’t want to let my Munchkin starved in her sleep! Not to mention that you just looked awfully cute with your cheeks stuffed.” You smacked his shin and rewarded with a loud yelp from him.  “Lead the way. And.. it’s not like I like it or something like that, you know! Don’t get any wrong ideas,” you hide your blush and took his huge hand in your tiny ones.
The food was delightful as usual and Sylvain stay true to his words about going back before the curfew.
As you both closed the large door’s that marked the dormitory, you were greeted by the crisp spring night. Warm wind passed over your forms, and crickets chirped in the night.
“While we’re at it, how about a little board games rematch at my quarters? I got a new strategy to show you, Syl!”
“Bring it on then, (Y/N)! Let’s bring some sweet buns as usual to snack on later as well, then.”
“It’s a deal!”
“I’d think playing it on the bed would be more comfortable than doing it on the floor. You might catch another cold and passed out like last month in my room. It scared the living daylights out of me! Nope, never trying that again.”
“It’s not fun being frail and get sick easily.” You sigh.
“No problem. Think of it as a good chance for me to get to carry you around in my arms. For our weddi-- Ouch!!” he faux a sad face melodramatically when you punch his hand away playfully. “You might be small and petite but these hands are a force to be reckoned with. You’re as strong as a lioness,” said the philanderer as he ruffled your hair affectionately.

It was such a beautiful night.
---
“Do you have a moment, Miss (Y/N)? I have something important to tell you regarding my research and your Crest. We can discuss it in more detailed manner in my research room,” Professor Hanneman ask you out of the blue after the afternoon battle strategy class.

“Crest? But I’m sure I don’t have any, Professor! It’s stated as clear as a day in my enrollment documents, isn’t it?”

“There’s a mistake, Miss (Y/N). And I sworn it on my name as the Father of Crestology, you do HAVE a Crest. A Major one at that! Congratulations! I have sent a letter to your family and inform other Professors and your House Leader regarding this matter. I have my suspicion about your Crests since I watch your  prowess at combat and when it activates, the timing, and the flash of....”

You are a bit shocked about this and decided to ignore this fact, having a hard time to process this shocking information. Your family and other members of Blue Lions will be very surprised of this information. Is it going to be a good thing or not? Professor Hanneman’s murmurs fell on your deaf ears as you politely excuse yourself out of his room. ‘It’ll be better to keep this as a secret to avoid unwanted attention nor unnecessary commotion’ you think to yourself.
---
Moons have passed. Then the night of the ball came. Urged by your curiosity, you are eager to wait for your true love at the Goddess Tower. You were hardly expecting to see Sylvain, of all people. The surprise at seeing each other was mutual. The both of you stood there for a moment, simply enjoying the scene before you. You wrapped your arms around yourself to stave off the chill that went down your spine, shuffling closer to the older man.

“Do you even believe the rumors about this place?” he asked as he lay his uniform coat over your shivering form. “My curiosity gets the best of me. But am glad to find you here, Syl.”

“Huh.” Sylvain went quiet, his face etched with contemplation. After he thought about it a little, he let out a huff of breath and frowned.

“Well, the person I’m interested in... is already here. You’re here alone. I’m here alone. I was thinking maybe....”
“Wait. Me?”
“Well, of course! We’re the only two people here, aren’t we? I keep thinking about it, and it just makes sense. My Crest and yours...”
“How did you...?”
“Dimitri told me. I have confirmed it with Professor Hanneman as well. A Major one, he said. So lucky.”
He looked down at you menacingly. Your eyes were averted away from his, looking away into the distance. “What do you mean? I’m still me, Syl.  Crest or no Crest.”
Despite your dismissive answer, something changed in his expression. He took his hands from behind his neck and stalked towards you. This wasn’t at all like the kind and flirty Sylvain you loved. He’s... different.
“You know what? I’m a bit jealous. The whole time you were growing up, you never knew you had a Crest. You were free. Nobody pretended to like you. I kind of hate you for that...” he slammed you hard against the wall behind you. Strangled pained noise came from you.
His knees rest on either side of your petite body and his arms cage your head, his much bigger hand grasp yours roughly. “All you’re worth to me is a little bit of fun. We’ve been having fun, haven’t we? I thought that you understood,” Sylvain’s face a mere inch from yours, glaring daggers at you. You can feel your tears begin welling, threatening to spill at his words.

“Is that really what you think of me? I thought... I was different. So… our friendship has just been for nothing?” you muttered quietly, holding back your sobs.

He scoffed. “Of course you are. You’re just some dumb noble looking for crest babies. You never meant anything to me.” His rejection was validation of your worst fear, that you were just like every other girl. Your friendship had all fallen apart and meant nothing for him.

“Playing around with girls is the most fun a guy can have. Besides, I don’t care what you think of me. I don’t intend to change how I live my life. I’m a good-for-nothing, if you haven’t noticed, but I’m still a noble with a Crest. That’s all anyone cares about. It’s best to avoid getting too serious with fools like me.” His expression darkens and unreadable. The carefree mask was long gone.

“My Crest bring me nothing but pain. I thought maybe...if I made someone else suffer, it might help me feel better.” His hand shot up and grabbed you by your throat. Sylvain held you in front of him, tightened his grip, choking you hard. His caramel eyes glowed dark with excitement.

“Unnnghhh......Syl....”
You tried to squirm away but he clamped his hand tighter, making it harder for you to breathe. Your legs felt weak and limp. The pain was too intense.

“You were a spoiled brat who should pay for that Crest. Maybe I’ll collect the debt.” His expression dark as he looked up at you.

Focusing yourself, you punch his jaw as hard as you can. To your surprise, a blinding flash of your Crest shows up when you smack him as hard as you can, making Sylvain flinch in pain, dropping you with a loud thud on the cold floor. You stumbled back and dropped to your knees. Gasping for air, you tried to rub the pain from your throat, doing your best to pick yourself up.

“Sylvain Jose Gautier!  I care not for your Crest nor title! It means nothing to me. I like.. no, love you because you are the strongest, kindest, funniest, and the most caring person that I know. Even you are such a skirt chaser, but you always very considerate and protective of me. I never felt this way before about someone. This is my first time but... This… This was a mistake. Sorry. I hope.. you find your own happiness someday,” you said, your voice is raspy from his deadly grip and your sadness. Tears were finally flowing freely from you.

Sylvain’s posture becoming rigid despite his feigned relaxed position. “H-hey,” Sylvain said, his voice softened somewhat. “Please, don’t cry. I’m sorry...”, he tried to pat your head, but you step back instinctively. The red head flinch and turned away when he saw angry purplish hue on your neck. Guilt began creeping on his conscience.

“I believe you. You’re not a bad person, Sylvain, no matter what anyone says. I care about you. Our friendship, dinners, late nights walk and banters... I cherished them a lot. Really, I do. I love you, Sylvain.” You couldn’t meet his eyes, couldn’t look at anything besides the floor. “That’s what I came to tell you, but... nevermind. Good night, Syl. I’ll see you tomorrow in class.”

“Did you mean that? (Y/N), wait!” He spoke with disbelief.
“Why would I lie?” you asked, hardly audible. “Goodbye, Syl.”

His pleas fell on deaf ears as you dash yourself as fast as possible from Goddess Tower, locking yourself inside your quarters, clutching to Sylvain’s uniform coat, while crying yourself to sleep.
---
That’s the last thing that you can remember from your Academy Days. Things were never the same since that night. You never talk to the playboy ever again since that incident. No more night walks or late board games. When you have to work together in weekly duty, there’s an unseen awkward distance and heavy tension between you two.

The notorious philanderer went back into his old ways, going around with a different girl each day. You often catch him glimpse at you with eyes full of remorse and sadness (mostly when he thinks you aren’t looking or noticing). Everyone in the Blue Lions noticed the changes between your relationship but being very considerate of your feelings and trying to not mention anything about it.

Your Father called you back home because of his grave illness in Pegasus Moon, insisting you to leave the Officers Academy behind. Blue Lions was taken aback and sad with your abrupt leave. Going back to your home in Fhirdiad, days flies in a blur motion into moons and years.
---
It’s been 5 years since you left your Academy days in Garreg Mach.
A bloody coup led by Cornelia causes Duke Rufus and Dimitri both to be apparently killed. Her  tyranny left Fhirdiad in poor state with poverty and famine. Holy Kingdom of Faerghus thrown into disarray condition with their Prince’s disappearance. The nation is plagued by civil strife and hardship.

With the vast majority of the former Kingdom lords having bent the knee to the overwhelming power of the Empire, all Blaiddyd territory, including the Kingdom capital, is ruled by those who are cooperating with the Empire, and is thus renamed the Faerghus Dukedom. Houses Fraldarius and Gautier were left to spearhead the resistance as the primary opponents of the Dukedom.

As the legitimate Marchioness of your major noble house in Blaiddyd territory after her Father’s passing, (Y/N) decided to keep on fighting against Empire until the bitter end, along with Houses of Fraldarius, Gautier, and Galatea. You keep maintain close relationships them, mostly with the neighbouring Houses, Fraldarius and Galatea. Whether it may be reinforcements soldiers to House Fraldarius or stock supplies to House Galatea, you are so much eager to give it all (sometimes by going there personally—much to your advisors’ dismay) to aid them.  Being always giving or adding the most relevant information about current war state developments made you overjoyed when you heard about the news of Dimitri’s plan to recapture Fhirdiad.
---
It’s been forever since your last time fighting on the battlefield. Reclaiming the capital is a daunting task with shortage of soldiers and resources. Rodrigue’s death is a devastating blow to Faerghus’ military strength and resources. Not to mention that House Gautier and Galatea has any resources to spare. With limited resource of your own House, you decided to prioritize evacuation of Faerghus’ citizens and helping Blue Lions to the utmost.

Dimitri marches for Fhirdiad, causing the oppressed citizens to revolt against Cornelia’s tyranny People are rebelling against Cornelia and Fhirdiad has turned into a gruesome battlefield. Fire was everywhere The sound of metals echoed loudly in your ears. Large Titanus crowded the streets and wreaking havoc upon buildings and citizens. With your sword in your hands, you leap and cut through Kingdom Soldiers that is preparing to activate Viskam turrets against Felix.

You pushed forward with great caution. When you are done helping a pair of elders and children under the rubbles to evacuate, you saw him. Sylvain. Fighting over a mage and a large Titanus all by himself. Did he get separated? He barely dodged a fireball when you strike down that mage.

“Munchki--!” He gasped, surprised to see you back.
“Watch out, Syl!”
You leap in front of him, parrying and slash back at the Titanus’ large appendages that is going to smash him. Sylvain cast a Ragnarok and taking down the golem-like creature with a loud explosion, sending flying debris everywhere. He gasped, grabbed your arm and pulled you out of the way.

“Ugh... that hurts. Are you okay, Munchkin?” He was trapped under the rubbles and the first thing that he asked is your safety?
“W-why did you do that, Syl? You got hurt protecting me. Didn’t you want to kill me?”, you said as you helped him out from the rubble.  Fortunately he is okay aside from a few scratch and bruises.

“When I thought you were going to be killed for real, my reflexes kicked in. I reacted without thinking. It doesn’t mean I’ve stopped being jealous of you. But, come on, I can’t help looking up to you.” He look at you with eyes full of worry and sadness.

“Sylvain..... Well.. It’s been awhile, but as much as I want to chat with you, we have to help Professor and Dimitri first. Cornelia has brought us so many sufferings. Now’s the time to put an end to all of this. And... thank you, Syl.” He nods and push forward to throw his lance at a Pegasus Knight that is fighting against Ingrid.

“I will go to deactivate Titanus’ lever. I know its location and it will help everyone tremendously against that gigantic monster! I’ll open Fhirdiad’s secret passages within my House territory to help everyone to get better access to Cornelia. When I’m done with it, I’ll regroup with reinforcement soldiers from my House to evacuate more citizens on the east side of Royal Capital, then go to help Dimitri fighting against Cornelia. See you later, Syl. Please stay safe.” You bid your farewell and run through smaller alley path, doing your missions, leaving Sylvain astonished at your very thorough, detailed plans.

Without the Titanus, Cornelia only has archers as her backups. As you take the archers down with Felix and Annette, Professor and Dimitri are working together to close in on her and take her down. It was a gruesome battle, but thanks to everyone’s efforts, casualties were kept to minimum and reclaiming Fhirdiad is a big success after Cornelia has been defeated.
---
It may be spring, but the nights are quite chilly here in Fhirdiad. The people are rejoicing at the return of their King. After a hard won battle of reclaiming Royal Capital of Fhirdiad, celebratory feast shows no sign of stopping. Growing weary of the festivities, you decided to excuse yourself from the banquet at the castle balcony.
“Munchkin. Here you are. His Highness has been looking for you. He wanted to express his gratitude for your loyalty and huge help at reclaiming Fhirdiad.”
“Good evening, Syl. We just did our utmost to help. Fhirdiad’s  peace and safety of the Blue Lions is of the most important thing for me, after all.”
A moment of silence passed where both of you stayed still, just basking in the moonlight and enjoying each others’ presence for a while.
“I’m sorry. I really am.” You are taken aback when Sylvain bows his head deeply in front of you.
“I know I messed up really bad and it’s fair enough if you can’t find it in your heart to forgive me. My jealousy got the best of me and it has brought you so much harm. Most girls just want me for my title or my Crest, and when I thought that it was the same for you, I… I was the one who made a mistake. I’m sorry, truly I am.” Peeking at him from the corner of your eye, you could see the furrow of Sylvain’s brows, the frowning twist of his lips. It was a look you’d never seen on him. Regret and pain. He looks so vulnerable. Somehow, you didn’t doubt the apology.
“Please elaborate, Syl.”
“Since I bear a Crest, my parents made sure I was never left wanting. My older brother didn’t have one, and so when I was born, he was pushed aside. My mere existence stole everything from him. There’s so many people that want to get close to me because of my crest. Because of something I didn’t even want to be born with. I wish I could have cared as little about my Crest as you do yours...,” he grimaces, running a hand through his hair briskly. “Women smile at me for the same reason my parents adored me...and my brother wanted me dead. And I have to meet them all with a smile because I have a Crest.” Sylvain purses his lips.

“But you–you’ve never treated me differently. Always being there for me and understand me, and…and–I like you, (Y/N). No. I love you so much that it scared me. A lot,” he says, closing his eyes.

“You say that, but it doesn’t excuse the things you’ve done.” You didn’t want to look at him, didn’t want to let him see mixed expression you were making at  his sudden confession but you knew he was looking at you. Intently.

“I was devastated when you left Garreg Mach years ago. I lost you once and I won’t let it happen again. So.... what I’m saying is…” he hesitated and briefly appeared at a loss of words which is very unlike of him.
He hugs you closer very tightly it hurts, cradling you gently against his chest. This close, you can feel the rapid pace of his heart and his nervousness. “Can you give me a second chance?” Sylvain’s touch was awkward and clumsy.
“......I will. But first… Please let me go, Syl. You are crushing me.”
Sylvain paused, as if unsure. “Did you mean that?” Vulnerability colored his tone, softened it. “I’d like to be a man who deserves that. Who deserves you. Even if you want nothing to do with me, one day I will find a way to make it up to you, to earn your forgiveness. I promise.” His voice wasn’t strong with his infamous flirtatious bravado. It was sincere.

“You’re so much more than just your Crest or your status, Sylvain Jose Gautier.” Taking his much bigger hand in your tiny ones, you smiled and whisper it against his hand. “You are the most amazing, kind, strongest, and nice man for me. Your path is your own.  I love you just the way you are, Sylvain. Crest or no Crest.” His face turned dark red instantly redder than his hair at your words. Sylvain.exe has stopped working
“You are going to be the death of me, Munchkin!!” Sylvain yells frantically. You can see his ears flushed furious red. He can die happy now. Goddess Sothis please take his soul.
“Why you still call me Munchkin, Syl?” you asked much to your curiousity. “It’s been years but you barely grow a few inch! But y-Ouch!! He yelps when you jab at his stomach. “But you have... grown into a fine, smart, and beautiful woman.”

“Time hasn’t been so kind to me in these past years, Syl. After my Father’s passing, I have to succeed him. Being a Marchioness isn’t an easy task but I learned so much and am still learning.”

“My sincerest condolences for your loss. But... he must be very proud of you, Munchkin. You will be a great Marchioness. Strong, thorough, quick-witted, and lovely as a—”
“Flattery won’t get you anywhere, Mr. Gautier.” You rolled your eyes at him. The redhead laughs softly and embrace you in his arms.

“When this war is over, will you come with me to my homeland? It’s time for the first step in the right direction. I don’t want to marry a girl who wants to use me for my Crest or a girl who someone else chose for me. I want to marry someone I really care about. With you by my side, I’m excited to find out what this new way of life is all about. (Y/N), I’m serious. Marry me. I’d do anything for you. I’m done lying, especially to myself. I’m going to spend the rest of our lives together trying to make you happy. I promise.”

“I’d like to.... introduce you to my parents. They’d love to have a new Gauti—Gyaahh!!!” He shrieked when you stomped your feet on him. “I’m so DONE with you, Syl!!” you said with exasperated look, looking away trying to hide the rising heat in your cheeks. ‘A future with Sylvain...’

There’s a pause when you catch his gaze and find something vulnerable there, something familiar. The flicker of hope, mirrored in your expression. It’s as if everything falls into place and clicks. Then his lips were on yours, soft and hesitant, so unlike his usual self. Your eyes fluttered shut, your lips moulding against his, as his hand came up to cup your cheek. It was all the confession you needed.

“I will, Syl. I promise.”
---
Bonus:
When Professor and the Blue Lions heard about your new relationship with Sylvain, they offer you heartfelt congratulations and throw a little dinner party. Dimitri is OVERJOYED and sobs a little when he saw you are radiating with so much happiness. Back then in your Academy days, he was the one who worry about you the most when Sylvain treated you poorly, after all. Ashe and Dedue throw a lavish dinner to celebrate (Y/N) and Sylvain’s relationship that evening. Mercedes and Annette provide everyone with tasty sweets and dessert. It was a heartwarming small party among Blue Lions members.
Sadly, Sylvain didn’t get to celebrate it together. Rumors had it that Felix and Ingrid has beaten him to a bloody pulp (with Professor’s EXCLUSIVE permission) because he made you their lovely sweet lil sis wept and hurt. Sylvain kept on mumbling something between “Don’t ever hitting another girl”, “RUIN his Lance of Ruin”, “Don’t ever taint her”, or “You’re finished”. Even the kind and benevolent Mercie turned her back and refuse to heal Sylvain. The Gautier heir almost went to hell that evening.

The poor, traumatized philanderer will changing his ways for the better for sure.

it’s Loving Dorothea hours
gonna write a bullet point list about why i love her
- this girl gets some nobleman to sponsor her to go to school just to find a rich husband? queen shit right there
- basically everyone in her house admires her and treats her with respect? there’s no slut-shaming, and even when Byleth’s like “you have to want more than this” they ultimately come to the understanding that they shouldn’t judge? like this was not the character arc I expected but it made her easily one of my favourites. Dorothea has so much hidden complexity to her between the personality she projects and her insecurities/wants/desires. She comes off as really practical but also unapologetically feminine, without this femininity being treated as a weakness.
- that being said, Dorothea’s basic character concept is “I want to marry rich but also I hate rich people” and it’s honestly such a mood
- The Ferdithea C support kills me every time. Nobody can bully Ferdinand like Dorothea can.
- Her interactions with the Black Eagles girls are ~my shit~. She’s so kind and patient with Bernie, so understanding and open with Petra, and so, SO gay for Edelgard. She is the reason any of these edgy nerds talk to each other and become family.
- but seriously, this girl wrote 32 bars of an opera about Edelgard and then told her “someday something might spark between us!” maybe one day I’ll write a “Dorothea was El’s gay awakening” fic
- Dorothea with men: 😡 Dorothea with women: 🥰
- (in a house full of bicons, she manages to be the biggest bicon of them all)
- this is pure personal interpretation/wish fulfillment, but Hubert essentially describes his feelings for Edelgard as them being platonic soulmates and Dorothea ACKNOWLEDGES and ADMIRES IT?? Like, her words are “I’m pretty sure [being in love’s] different from how things are with you and Edie”. I’ve written about it before in my long “Hubert’s feelings for Edelgard aren’t romantic to me” post but as an aromantic person their B support means the world to me. Even if this interpretation of the scene wasn’t intentional, having a romance-centred character like Dorothea validate a platonic relationship as being just as important as a romantic one was unlike anything I could’ve expected this game to give me.
- I S-supported her in my Blue Lions run and her supports with Sylvain did not disappoint. They essentially both clock each other for being The Worst in each other’s eyes and there’s this flirty tension between them the whole time.  Watching Dorothea call him out while both secretly hope the other’s serious about what they’re saying is so fun to watch.
- her Paralogue with Ingrid where she basically gets to say “this man is trash, we’re getting you out of here!!” she is so supportive of every girl!!
- Like unless you’ve recruited/done mission assistance with one or the other, there’s no implication beforehand that they talk to each other, and Dorothea’s still fired up about the injustice on Ingrid’s behalf because Dorothea is always down to fight shitty men 😤
- Magic is typically reserved for the nobility and she says “fuck that” and masters it!! (I mean, granted you train her in it, but I’ve always had Dorothea be mostly a mage)
- she does have her moments of self-doubt and vulnerability and it keeps her so grounded
- she’s one of the most concerned with the cost of war/taking lives and that always stood out to me
- I’m a theatre kid. of course Dorothea resonates with me.

Post Grondor Field AM Analysis
I'm prefacing this by saying that I'm still not sure I can write a good analysis of this scene for two reasons:
1. I don't know what comes after, and
2. I'm very emotionally involved in what happened.
But I tried my best. One thing is for sure though, what happened in Grondor in AM was an incredibly significant turning point for AM and Dimitri and my thoughts and analysis on it will definitely expand as I keep writing about and playing the game.
Part of me is just so happy I got to see Dimitri's supports, have the inevitable turn around, and get to do things like tea and dinner time again that it's hard to be objective about this scene.
And by "this scene," I don't mean that actual fight at Grondor, but everything from Fleche's attack to Byleth's words in the rain later.
It wasn't all about Byleth . . .
Given how poignant Dimitri's character arc has been so far, I had a deep rooted fear player-pandering would ruin it. Byleth, as a concept, isn't bad, but too often the heaps of praise feel underserved and other things (like Claude's intelligence, Edelgard's relationships with everyone else) get ignored to make more room for player-pandering.
Thankfully this did not happen. Byleth, throughout the early chapters of AM's part 2, failed to reach Dimitri. And, honestly, seeing Byleth actually struggle for once has done wonders for how I view her character. Still, I worried that player-pandering-power, rather than something that felt earned, would cause the inevitable eye-opener for Dimitri.
But it wasn't just Byleth. Fleche's vengeance kicked everything off, what veered Dimitri away from his fate in other routes. He accepted his death at her hands, not bothering to defend himself. Rodrigue stepping in the way and his parting words forced Dimitri to confront things he'd ignored. Throughout AM so far, people have posed questions to Dimitri who refused to answer them because he didn't want to face what they asked. But Rodrigue dying for him, spending his final words telling Dimitri to live for himself - combined with Fleche's attack - forced Dimitri to confront things he avoided. It wasn't until after all of that when Byleth steps in.
And Byleth didn't "fix" him either. Dimitri's supports show a young man who's still very much struggling with his mental health, poor self-image, his previous actions, and wondering if he deserves not only to live for himself - but if he even deserves to live. Byleth didn't hand-wave Dimitri's problems away.
Everything about the scene is stronger because it didn't fall back on player-pandering, but more earned, realistic, and dramatic actions and consequences - including Byleth's involvement which felt far more earned than usual because of prior failure.
But I wish Dimitri's friends played a bigger role.
Not everything was perfect though. I wish we got a little more than we did from Dimitri's house mates - especially his childhood friends Sylvain, Ingrid, and extra special mention to Felix and especially, especially Dedue.
Throughout all of AM, none of the above mentioned characters feel utilized to their full potential. This isn't a problem exclusive to AM, and by all means it's far from the biggest offender, but given how close all the ties are in AM, it's felt when it's not there.
I still don't know what exactly I would've done with them. Maybe I'd need to make the game an actual novel to do it, and you can't forget how perma-death has historically held back games at times, limiting major moments to a select few "retreat" candidates.
Still, though, getting a bit more from Ingrid, Sylvain, Felix, and Dedue would've made the scene even more powerful.
I actually really liked the scene in the rain.
I haven't made it a secret that I dislike Byleth. Or maybe disliked is more accurate. Lately I've been rethinking my stance on Byleth, in part because I've heard from people who like her or found ways to make her work and from my own thinking about the game while planning future write ups.
I don't think it's Byleth I really dislike, but the player-pandering. Separating the two isn't easy, but it's easier since I've starting coming around to seeing Byleth as her own character.
There's been a few moments that made me care for Byleth, and this scene in the rain was one of them. Because she didn't just fix everything. She tried and failed for months to reason with Dimitri, and despite everything she never gave up on him or failed to keep offering her hand.
I'm not going to lie. I got all the bubbly, heartwarming, heartbreaking feels the writers wanted me to in this scene. Seeing Byleth reach for something and fail, and then finally, finally get through was rewarding in a way many of Byleth's prior accomplishments aren't because this one felt earned. And by God did she earn it.
Some people will likely disagree with that last point, but I disagree with them. She asked Dimitri hard-hitting questions, forcing him to come to unpleasant conclusions rather than trying to force him into anything. She kept Dimitri from veering to far off course, even at expense to herself when she killed Randolph. She saved Dimitri from Fleche when he refused to save himself. She quietly supported him, coaxing out the good she knew was still there and refused to give up on.
I'd never in a million years say someone in real life should put up with Dimitri's toxic behavior and verbal abuse, even considering his extreme trauma and aggravated mental illness. But seeing someone fuck up so badly still get forgiven, still get supported, still struggle but honestly change for the good, still get loved, start to accept and forgive himself through the power of love and forgiveness from others is very powerful, especially since media so often downplays those "softer" things as weakness in comparison to the "badassery" of ambition and stoicism. Using Byleth, who previously had little experience with feelings, who was encouraged to experience them in healthy ways by Dimitri, return the favor isn't really the worst choice.
It's cliche, but cliches aren't always bad.
The mentor dies. Redemption in the rain. Revenge against the protagonist's actions opens their eyes. Etc . . . This scene was chuck full of cliches, but that's not necessarily a bad thing.
Tropes serve an important narrative purpose because a writer can rely on them to convey a message to the audience that either saves time or sets them up for something unexpected or even expected. Fire Emblem has always and will always be incredibly cliche and full of tropes. It loves tropes so much there's in-universe ones that make some unit or character discussions sound like a foreign language to people outside of or new to the fandom, talking about "Ests" and calling someone a "Camus."
What matters is if a story pulled something off well, not if it's terribly unique. A mentor dying is powerful because it forces the student to grow. Redemption in the rain is high symbolic of water washing things away + the somber atmosphere rain creates. Someone trying to get revenge against a character provides an eye-opening experience about the ripple effect of their actions. We see these things in fiction all the time because they work.
All the tropes worked like expected in this scene. Using images instead of cut scenes did make less of an impact, but more on that later.
Tl;dr: There's nothing unexpected or terribly unique about what happened. It was honestly painfully predictable, but that doesn't make it bad and is in a series that does this all of the time.
The voice acting carried because those images can't.
A major downside to this scene is that it used vague images instead of a cut scene. I get that budget and time were likely concerns, but many cut scenes from earlier in the game seem rather trivial. Did we really need that dance one? Really? I don't think so.
This was a hugely important, action heavy moment. Using one or two still images to convey everything that's happening and all those emotions, really makes it less than it could've been.
That said, the voice acting saves it. I've raved about how amazing Chris Hackeny is as Dimitri, so nothing new here. Rodrigue's and Fleche's VAs also did a fantastic job. No one oversold or undersold the emotions. Even without the cut scene, you felt what happened thanks to the skill of the actors. This scene would've been so much harder to engage with without them, if this was an older FE game where all you got was text. This is 100% one of the moments highly elevated by the decision to have a fully voiced game and choosing high caliber talent (let's not talk about Radiant Dawn's voice acting).
Questionable support timing.
One issue I had came right after the scene when I viewed Dimitri's supports. The nature of some - like his with Raphael and Alois - didn't quite line up with the character I saw in dialogue right after. I wish they staggered them a bit more or got picker about what you could get in part 1 or 2.
This isn't limited to Dimitri either. In the same support batch, I also got a Marianne B support where she still had no confidence or self-worth. And then like 10 minutes later I talk to her in the monastery and she mentions about how seeing all the death in Grondor made her value her life even more.
In the past, I've also received entirely valid opinions that Dorothea in part 2 is hard to understand because she's cherry and flirty in her supports, and morose and hates the war in her monastery stuff, making her seem inconsistent.
It's a bit jarring. It's not really an issue for characters who don't change much like Edelgard or Raphael, but even for characters with more subtle differences than Dimitri, Marianne, and Dorothea - like, say, Lorenz - you get a lot of weird stuff because of supports. I just think Dimitri's stands out because he's a main character with a really prominent, important turning point for his growth.
