#after her match against neji

one thing i think people tend to overlook is that genin neji— the angry, self-righteous, arrogant prodigy— actively chose not to punch down.
he knew lee was weaker than him and didn’t get involved in senseless fights with him. if they were training, sure they fought, but neji and lee are framed as narrative rivals. you think we’d have a filler episode or a single manga panel showing them having a naruto/sasuke level fight over something stupid, but we don’t. (and i’m pretty sure lee instigated every single one of their fights.)
neji just so happened to come across team ten in the forest of death, and while they (hilariously) tried plan after plan to negotiate with him for their lives— mind you, this is one kid against an entire team of other kids— he walked away.
when neji was chosen to 1v1 hinata, he tried to talk her into avoiding that situation altogether. they both knew what the outcome of that match was going to be, and he spent a good bit of time trying to talk her out of fighting him, even trying to scare her out of proceeding with the match before it began.
and he did the exact same thing to naruto, which was yet another match he was *supposed* to win by a landslide. obviously we the audience know how that turned out, but no one in-universe knew that naruto v. neji was going to be a major upset, including naruto and neji. neji tried to make naruto stop fighting him even when he was winning.
and, like. you can chalk it up to neji being a smug little brat if you want. he was a smug little brat. but i think it’s very telling that The Kid To Beat only chose violence when his opponents did first.

*shows up 20 years late with Starbucks*
So I feel like Neji gets way too much shit for his fight with Hinata during the Chunin exams
Was he a dick? Absolutely. Was he also not nearly as bad as people made it out? Also yes.
Allow me to explain
For one, yeah his verbal abuse of her is out of line and cruel. But it also serves a purpose, namely to try and scare her into giving up the fight early. He tells her multiple times to forfeit, before and even during the fight. He plays on her insecurities to pressure her into it because she has absolutely no chance against him
He also never strikes first. He waits for Hinata to make the first move several times, stays on the defensive constantly. So much so the others actually thinks she's got him on the back foot for a while. He counters her and blocks her tenketsu while he's at it.
He doesn't actually go for damage until that one strike that should have by rights taken her out of commission right then and there. But when she doesn't stop and gets back up, he actually looks horrified because she's injured, can't channel chakra, she's clearly defeated
...and then Neji too stops using chakra all together.
The whole fight it's made clear to us when chakra is involved in attacks, because the Gentle Fist relies on it, but after he blocks Hinata's tenketsu this stops completely. He doesn't go for her chest again until the very end, which is also the first time he uses chakra after stopping hers. He's losing his cool and he's trying to get her to stay down so the blow is stronger than it needs to be, but Hinata isn't exactly aiming for anything less lethal either. He matches her blow for blow, goes along with her movements, aims for the same places she does. He's just better than her so he actually does do damage.
And he could've taken her down fast and brutal if he'd wanted to. Kakashi is, pun intended, thunderstruck by Neji's level of skill. He acknowledges point blank that Sasuke wouldn't have a chance against Neji. Gaara is stimulated by that fight.
Hell, the kid makes Jonin at 15 and he has already reverse engineered some of the most advanced Hyuuga jutsu by 13 without anyone actually training him in them
He could end this fight in seconds, if he actually wanted to hurt Hinata. He doesn't. He wants her to walk away.
Hayate also tells the kids straight up that he will intervene when he thinks a fight is over cuz he doesn't want more corpses than necessary...but he let's it go on. It's not until Neji loses his cool completely that anyone actually steps in and then they have multiple Jonin rushing in to stop him cuz of how fucking dangerous Neji actually is
Also Hinata, despite her clear fear of facing him as an opponent, is still fond enough of him to call him brother. So despite the grudge Neji has against the main house and, by extension, Hinata, their relationship is still cordial enough
My conclusion is simple: Neji doesn't actually want to hurt her but he knows he can't guarantee that he won't so he wants her to quit before he does. And she just...doesn't back down and then turns the mind games back on him the whole fight. Unintentionally but the effect is the same. But her pointing out that he's hurting more than her...For a traumatized 13 year old always 2 seconds away from snapping, that's a tough pill to swallow. So he loses it and goes for her to shut her up...despite actually urging her to stop so she doesn't die just seconds before
He's definitely taking some shit out on her before that but he's not going into this fight to physically hurt her beyond reason. But his superior chakra control and frankly ridiculously good Byakugan give him an edge she can't overcome.
And Hinata had already lost by the time he got that first real blow in on her. A big part of why she ended up as badly as she did was because she refused to stop when she should have known she couldn't go on, Hayate and the Jonin stopped the fight too late and her tenacity slowly ate away at Neji's restraint
What I'm saying is basically that this is a shit situation from start to finish and no one deserves a warm handshake over anything that happens there. But Neji isn't nearly as bad as he's made out to be. Even provoking Naruto and Kurenai later on is cuz he's still riled up himself...but he does watch her being carried away the whole time too...

Never forget that if Hinata, the alleged "side character" (in the eyes of certain stans), wasn't there to cheer up Naruto before his fight against Neji, he would've continued to have low self-confidence and be in an uncharacteristically low mood, and he would've lost the match. Naruto would never have been publicly acknowledged by Konoha for the very first time in his life. [Chapters 98-105]
Never forget that if Hinata, the alleged "side character", wasn't there to try and fight against Pain, Naruto would never have met Minato and learned more about his backstory, Pain would've killed everyone in Konoha, and then Pain would've extracted Kurama and killed Naruto. Naruto would never have been publicly acknowledged by everyone in the world for the very first time in his life. [Chapters 437-450]
Never forget that if Hinata, the alleged "side character", wasn't there to slap some sense into Naruto after her own cousin just died trying to save them, or if Hinata herself was the one who died instead of Neji, Naruto would've lost the will to live, and he would've given up and joined Obito and Madara. Naruto would never have reconciled with Sasuke for good, won the war and saved the world, and be publicly acknowledged by everyone in the world as a hero for the rest of his life. [Chapters 614-616, 699]
Naruto would be either dead or he would've turned evil if Hinata, the alleged "side character", wasn't there for him. If Hinata was either never a part of Naruto's life, or if she died during any of those aforementioned pivotal moments, Naruto would never have become the person he is today. If Hinata was never there to save him with either her words or her actions, Naruto would never have achieved his lifelong dream of being publicly acknowledged by everyone.
Hell, we even saw what happened the one time Hinata did stop being in Naruto's life (temporarily): he lost the will to live, he gave up on his high-rank mission, and he wanted to let the world crash and burn and die along with it.
Interesting how Naruto realized that he could not live without Hinata, the alleged "side character." Interesting how Hinata, the alleged "side character", was irreplaceable and essential to Naruto. Interesting how Hinata, the alleged "side character", ended up being the most important and most precious person to Naruto. 🧐
I swear, Luna, it's almost like Hinata, the alleged "side character", is actually the real heroine, the true heroine, of the story. 🤔
Oh wait, that's right, Kishimoto himself said in 2010 that Hinata is more of a heroine instead of a certain someone else. And then in 2017, Kishimoto himself said that a certain someone else was used solely as a shipping tool thrown in the middle of Naruto/Hinata and was always planned to lose in that love triangle, a certain someone else was actually a side character like Kiba and Shikamaru, and a certain someone else was actually not a special female character after all.
What are the odds? 🙃
Excuse me while I sip this tea full of salty tears. 💁🏻‍♀️

ShikaSaku Headcanons
Shikamaru adores how strong Sakura is. He loves watching her train, under the guise of cloud-watching, and seeing the way her entire body is honed into a weapon. Shes easily stronger than him, and whenever they spar no chakra, she wins like, 7 or 8 times out of 10.
Shikamaru is in love with Sakura's forearms. He loves how strong they are, especially compared to his, and he loves loves loves it when she crosses her arms over her chest and the muscles get more defined. Has spent many mindless hours tracing the single bulged vein that goes up her left forearm.
Sakura has a late schedule, always filling out paperwork or reading a book, so Shikamaru has an alarm set for 1 AM. If she isn't in bed by then, he'll force her to go sleep (unless she still has work, in which case he helps her finish it and drags her to bed). 9/10, Sakura falls asleep to Shikas breathing and heartbeat in her ear where he cradles her against his chest.
Sakura hates shogi, but shes good at it. She plays a single round of it with Shikamaru after dinner, and whoever loses has to do the dishes. Sakura usually loses, but Shikamaru will still help her anyway. The same cannot be said when Sakura wins.
They have to replace their kitchen table like twice a month (about how often Sakura wins their shogi matches).
Shikamaru has a really nice singing voice, but nobody but Sakura and his mom know. Sakura will hear him singing while doing things like shower or cook and she stops and listens with a small smile on her face every single time.
(Sakura sounds like a dying bird when she sings)
When Shikamaru first realized he was attracted to Sakura, he began gossiping with Ino in the hopes he would find out more about Sakura. He began asking questions, and Ino immediately figured out what he wanted and gave him the obligatory Best Friend Shovel Talk (Threat)™, then proceeded to tell him every thing he needed to swoon her. (Unfortunately, he also knows a lot more about Kiba and Neji then he ever really wanted to)
Shikamaru will eat lunch with Sakura every day (the only exceptions are if one of them is out of town or Sakura is doing surgery, in which case he'll leave a hearty meal on her desk to eat and replenish her chakra with after). He has an alarm on his watch that goes off at 1:30 on the dot, and he's been known to up and leave important meetings involving clan heads and village elders without a word.
Shikamaru and Sakura have multiple matching tattoos.
Shikamaru loves getting his hair washed by Sakura, and in return Sakura gets the most heavenly back massages. Its not an every night thing, it mostly happens if one or both of them gets home after a mission and need to unwind.
Shikamaru took Sakuras last name <3

Before I get into this I wanted to say someone said on one of my posts about Naruto and One Piece that they didn't feel their was a point in comparing them and I wanted to say my intention isn't really to compare Naruto and One Piece. My point is that Naruto is a standard shounen with some good ideas and points but is overall not very good and has lots of writing issues. One Piece is a standard shounen that is very well written with fewer issues. And because all of my problems with people on here seem to stem from people wanting to read Naruto differently than intended to make it look better I want to use One Piece as an example of what something that is just good writing on its own merits looks like.
Anyway, Iruka says chapter one that he thinks Naruto's struggles have given him empathy and I think that is funny because to me Naruto has never been a character with any emotional intelligence or kindness to be seen in him. The only time he has interest in other's emotions or feelings is when he can relate them to his own experience and this is 1. never addressed as a problem Naruto has and 2. is a consistent theme throughout the manga. Not only that but he never seems to be able to do anything helpful when he finds people like that (which could be an interesting commentary on Naruto's inability with personal interactions but once again the manga doesn't make note of it). Think how he treats Inari, think encouraging Hinata to fight Neji even though it endangered her because it personally triggered him, think how he ends up fighting Gaara and saying he will fight Sasuke after saying he relates to them (not that I think he's wrong for fighting Gaara since...he's attacking the village just, Choices Kishimoto for doing that more than once).
Now let me show an example of the main character for one understanding someone else's feelings and for two, shock and awe, helping them. Generally Luffy isn't a character anyone would describe using the word "intelligence" for on first blush, but reading the manga you will see in a lot of situations Luffy is actually incredibly emotionally intelligent. And honestly I think it's kind of funny that Kishimoto bothers making Iruka specifically says Naruto has empathy when he doesn't show it at least in a helpful way meanwhile no one says anything about Luffy being kind yet...here we are...just being shown things instead of told.
Anyway, here's the example. This one is from early in the manga and I chose one that involves a whale instead of a person just to really drive the point home.
The crew meets (and gets eaten by...look it's a whole thing okay) a whale (Laboon) and the lighthouse watcher/former doctor/whale caretaker (once again...it's a whole thing), Crocus, tells them the story of how this whale was waiting for his friends, a different pirate crew, to sail around the world and return to him, but it's been 50 years and Crocus believes the crew has abandoned the whale and Laboon, disbelieving this, rams his head against the Red Line (it's a land mass that circles the entire world...listen I can't be explaining the intricacies of OP's world building just for this post), seriously injuring himself in his attempts to break through and find his friends. Luffy, for lack of anything else to do I guess (if he could just intuit the problem and do something about it without listening to a whole ass tale he would, trust), listens though as usual the energy he's giving is "no thoughts, head empty".
Tumblr media
But the next thing you know! Luffy has broken of the ship's mast (for some reason...) and is running up the whale to stab the mast into Laboon's latest slamming-his-head-into-a-wall-of-earth wound (in case you can't tell I'm not showing all the panels thus all the explaining).
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Laboon is in pain and attacks, but Luffy fights back.
Tumblr media
Luffy stops the fight by declaring it a draw!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Well, it looks like their match isn't settled so they will have to fight some other time. Luffy declares that they are rivals and after they sail around the world (like Laboon's previous crew of pirate friends) they will come back and Luffy and Laboon can have a rematch.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Luffy even paints their...uh, his version of their Jolly Roger on Laboon's head where his scars are and says he can't ram his head against the Red Line because that will erase the contract. This gives something else for Laboon to look forward to rather than him needlessly waiting for his friends to return. And it works! Every time we see Laboon in little asides or cover stories after this he is happily waiting for the Straw Hats at the lighthouse with Crocus. (And in case anyone was wondering his pirate friends and the Straw Hats can't just bring him with them because he's a giant fucking whale and they are circling the entire globe through dangerous waters, also the sky, also the bottom of the ocean, also fighting the government, also getting flung across the globe, and various islands.)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And what really REALLY touches me about this exchange is that Luffy knows he can't replace Laboon's previous pirate crew of friends. He can't just say "I'll be your friend" to fix this. So instead he positions himself as Laboon's rival, not replacing the friends Laboon is still waiting for or belittling his bond with them (and trust me...it's a bond 😢). And in case you're wondering does this somehow connect to Luffy's sad past and that's why he's doing this??? No. His sad backstory isn't anything like this. He's just doing it because it's the kind thing to do and if you're trying to do something and Luffy likes you he will do everything he can to help you.

Confessing Feelings
Tumblr media
This is another long one so I’m putting it under the cut!! (Also please excuse the old art again)
So in my head Chihiro and Neji knew each other since their academy days, so they’ve been friends for a hot minute. As they get older they both kinda have those “??? Are we something more???” kind of feelings.
For Neji those feelings start to creep up after the Chunin Exams when Chihiro came in to check on him after talking with his uncle. She tells him that she was really worried about him, but she’s glad it ended well, and it makes his heart flutter a bit but doesn’t really understand what it means cuz??? Of course she’d be worried??? They’re friends??? And Chihiro is very loyal to her friends. So why does this feel different??? He decides to suppress it cuz… feelings are weird LMAO!
For Chihiro those feelings were way more sudden (poor thing). It happens when she hears about what happened during the Sasuke retrieval mission, and the serious injuries that Neji had and how he would have to go through the tedious surgery to recover (I can’t remember if it was that tedious but it really fucked my head up back in the day so).
She’s sitting next to his hospital bed, tears flowing down her face when her feelings start to hit her. she has the distinct thought of, “I can’t live without him.”
She starts to feel a bit confused about it, and as he recovers she thinks that those extreme feelings she felt were just a result from seeing her oldest friend in such a state and does her best to ignore what she felt.
(Side note that mission was what made her start to develop a bit of a grudge against Sasuke , but that’s a whole other can of worms.)
So through the years those feelings come and go, both of them doing their best to brush them off cuz what if the other one doesn’t like them that way??? (They both like each other they’re just dumb.)
Neji finds himself getting really mad and grumpy whenever he hears how Chihiro was talking to another guy because the elders in her clan want to make sure she’ll eventually get married and have an acceptable heir. And his brain kinda goes like:
“Why are you mad?? She’s the heir of her clan of course her family would want her to meet someone to marry???”
To: “I wanna… hold her hands…”
He doesn’t think he’s worthy enough to be in a relationship with the future head of such an old and proud clan (he is though he just has self esteem issues).
Chihiro has absolutely no interest in any of the men her elders try to match her up with. She only talks to them to get her elders off her back, but she always ends up turning them down. She knows it’s her duty to her clan, but she just can’t see herself with any of those guys???
So one day she’s hanging out with Tenten (they become friends after they both become genin) and she’s venting about all this to her, and Tenten is like, “Well, close your eyes and when you think about marriage and such, what kind of guy do you see??”
So she does that and guess who she sees??? It’s Neji!!!!
Chihiro: uh oh
Tenten asks her what she imagined cuz boy howdy Chihiro’s face is turning quite red, and she ends up turning away and quickly trying to change the subject.
Tenten: *smirks*
Tenten knows they like each other LMAO!
So on the next mission Tenten goes on with her team, she nonchalantly tells Neji that she was talking to Chihiro about those guys she has to go see and how much she wants nothing to do with them, and she sees Neji’s brow ease a bit for a moment. His attitude is suddenly a lot better on that mission.
Tenten: oh yeah, it’s all coming together.
Side note: Lee knows that they have feelings for each other but wants to be respectful towards them both so he doesn’t bring it up often. He sees how much it can pain them.
Ok so this part is so self indulgent it might be a bit too cringey but WHATEVER it makes about as much sense as what happens in canon SO I DON’T CARE!
So fast forwards to THAT Part tm
(Oh also I haven’t gotten this far in the actual show so details might be off because I honestly don’t want to even read about this I’m weak.)
Chihiro refuses to allow him to sacrifice himself. Like she’s frantic. Going a bit feral because why is he doing this?? Why can’t he see how important he is to her??? And that’s when she finally accepts her feelings towards him. And she has a moment of clarity as she pulls out a scroll with her family crest from her pocket.
So this scroll is essentially the Osaka clan’s trump card. In the past it’s only ever been used to protect the clan from wars and especially strong enemies and such.
The scroll can only be used by the head family, and it basically summons the founder of the clan, Omikami (she’s kinda a god/spiritual entity so that’s how this makes sense LMAO).
She merges herself with Chihiro, and it’s a massive power boost; nearly unlimited chakra, hundreds of years of battle experience and skills, etc., etc.
And she uses this power to pretty much shatter the threat (again haven’t gotten this far in Shippuden yet so I don’t know exact details I’m sorry) and/or ends up sealing it up in a huge sakura tree that will feed off whatever’s left of it until the end of time (this makes about as much sense as stuff that happens in canon and that’s my excuse).
Of course, that much power comes at a high cost. You don’t get nearly god like powers for free after all (unless you’re Naruto I guess but this ain’t about him).
Once she’s completely done with the fight, they separate again, and Chihiro is so weak she can barely stand. Neji runs up to her to help her, and he’s still so shaken he kinda yells at her for doing that. He feels a bit bad and apologizes to her, and he shakily asks why she would do such a thing, to use such ancient power for a mere branch member of the Hyuga clan.
She kinda laughs and whispers, “you’re the most important person to me. I’m… pretty sure I’m in love with you.”
He just kinda stares at her, not sure what to say. Everything and nothing are running through his head all at once. The only thing that’s clear is her, lying in his arms looking up at him with those blue eyes. She’s literally covered in dirt and blood but to him, in that moment, she’s the prettiest woman he’d ever seen.
Their moment is kinda ruined as Omikami approaches them in her wolf form. She doesn’t say anything but instead just kinda looks at Chihiro. She just kinda nods, and tries to stand on her own again. She has to give her payment for that power with her life, so her power and experience can be added the next time the scroll is used.
Neji is furious. She keeps trying to explain everything to him, but he’s not having it. She just told him something like that and now she has to die??
He grabs her wrist and yanks her away from the wolf, and he offers himself in her place; she’s too important! She’s her clan’s only heir! She has so much she has left to do!
Him offering himself pisses off Chihiro big time.
“I did this for YOU! For YOUR life! You can’t just throw it away like this!!”
Besides, Osaka blood is needed for the sealing to work; it’ll just fail without it and like… things will explode etc. etc. it’s not good.
He just huffs and grabs her hand as she reaches out to offer herself up. Their fingers intertwine, and if it wasn’t for the situation that they were in, it probably would’ve been calming. He looks right at the entity before them in the eye.
“You need a full human life for payment, right?” He asks, “then take half of mine and half of hers. Your payment would be satisfied, and she lives.”
Chihiro protests, saying that it can’t work like that, that what if they end up dead, what if it’s not enough, etc. etc.
And he tells her that if all else fails, he’ll fight for her, just like how she fought for him.
Omikami just kinda smiles, and she walks over and touches her nose onto both of their hands; she accepts those terms.
Next thing he knows Neji is waking up in an infirmary, and the first thing he asks the nurse is where Chihiro is and if she’s ok.
The nurse tells him that she’s still unconscious and hasn’t woken up yet.
They made him stay in the hospital to keep an eye on him, and a few days later Tenten and Lee run into his room and tell him that she’s finally woken up. He clambers out of his bed, the nurses telling at him not to move too quickly but he doesn’t care!! He asks Tenten and Lee to take him to her room.
They agree (obviously LOL), and Sakura is in her room with her, checking her vitals and keeps reassuring her that Neji is ok (they’re so dumb they both nearly died, and they just keep asking about the other).
He nearly breaks the door open (bruh it’s fine it’s not locked lol) and his breath hitches when he sees her; she still looks really tired, and a bit out of it. But her eyes meet him and she smiles weakly at him.
Even though there were three other people in the room, he decides to just break character and rushes to embrace her. he held her so close, but not too tight cuz he doesn’t want to hurt her. He feels himself choke up as tears start to flow down his face, but he doesn’t care; he’s just relieved that she’s still here with him.
He turns to her whispers, just so she can hear, how much he loves her too.
She slowly pulls her arms around him as well, and they kinda let each other just sink into each other. At that moment they both decide that they can’t live without the other.
And they’re 100% gonna fight the elders and get married cuz BOO HOO THEY LOVE EACH OTHER SO THEY’RE GOING TO HAVE TO DEAL WITH IT!

it's so silly to me to see people assume neji only grew close to his teammates after his fight with naruto. it's so wrong like if you said he wasn't close to them in their early genin days i'd get it since there's proof of that especially with lee but pre-chuunin exams team gai already some kind of established trust. he could've simply not decided to go along with lee's plan to keep their power level hidden, he would not have acknowledged that tenten fought well in her match against temari. they had good teamwork from the time they were introduced in the manga. he knew their strengths and he had faith in them by then. like ok write whatever you want, have whatever headcanons i don't care but im just saying.

That was so stupid. They're claiming that Hinata was a privileged slave owner and that she also apparently even perpetuated the mistreatment of the Branch family due to her alleged lack of action in bringing about a change. Okay then, let's look at what they said.
She was gifted her own slave (Neji) on her 3rd birthday.
She was 3 years old, as if she should be held accountable for anything that happened when she was that age.
She rubbed Neji's status as a slave in his face (can you blame him from wanting to kill her?)
Hinata did no such thing, all she did was highlight that Neji was suffering emotionally due to his status as a Branch member. How this person thinks that equates to rubbing his status as a slave in his face is beyond me. She also only said what she did in response to Neji's constant taunts about how she was burdened from birth with the destiny of the Hyuuga's main branch, about how she apparently hates and punishes herself for her weakness and frailty, and how she apparently can't change her nature or her fate:
Tumblr media
Hinata literally had every right to respond in the manner that she did. Furthermore, the fact that this person actually thinks that what Hinata said there justifies her being fucking killed, says a lot.
From one of their reblogs - Several Jounin stepped in to save Hinata because it's against the Hyuuga system for Branch Family members to kill those in the Main Family. Hinata's Main Family status was what saved her from dying at Neji's hand, which makes her privileged.
No, several Jounin jumped in to save her from being killed because they didn't want someone to die over a relatively harmless comment, especially when the fight was already clearly over. That's honestly such a load of bullshit that I don't even know where to begin. It was literally never stated that it's against the Hyuuga system for Branch members to kill Main members, and what kind of a stupid rule is that anyway? As if families actually need to clarify that it's a bad thing to be killing each other. That rule did not exist, and played no part in the Jounin's intervention during their match.
She even has Hyuuga slaves other than Neji as her bodyguards!
They're referring to this scene:
Tumblr media
And it's not true, but I'll get to that in a moment, because they then went further in one of their reblogs by saying...
It says in that highlighted panel in the fourth scan that Ko will face punishment if Hinata gets harmed in any way during Pein's attack on Konoha. Meaning, Hiashi expects Ko to keep Hinata in perfect condition if Hiashi or Hanabi were to be absent for anything important where Hinata is needed, or face punishment. This should tell you that Hinata is still privileged, and that the Hyuuga system wasn't fixed after Naruto defeated Neji.
However, if they had bothered doing some research before making these accusations, they would have realised that Ko is actually a member of the Main family, as stated in the 4th Databook Mini Character Files, and therefore is not and never had been any kind of slave. He had always been Hinata's caretaker and had always displayed a lot of concern for her well being. Protecting her was not something that he was doing against his will.
The girl is privileged. She benefits from the enslavement of the Hyuuga Branch family. The fact that she never did a single thing to change it is proof that she perpetuates slavery just like her father.
They say "just like her father" as if Hiashi wasn't the one who put an end to the slave like treatment of the Branch family, as if Hinata ever treated any Branch member like a slave, as if Hinata was ever in a position to do anything to end it since she had fallen out of favour. In one of their later reblogs, they tried to downplay the fact that Hiashi very clearly indicated that the Branch family was no longer being treated as slaves, by claiming that...
Hiashi was referring to both Families fighting alongside each other as comrades in the war, not that the slavery practices were abolished and both Families are now equal. If that's true, why does Neji still have the Caged Bird Seal?
And the reach here is just unbelievable. Hiashi very clearly states that "today, the Cadet branch does not live to serve and protect the blood of the main branch, they stand side by side as equals":
Tumblr media
Them fighting together was used as an example to demonstrate the equality that was now being practiced between the two families, he obviously wasn't implying that it was a one off occurrence. The Branch family doesn't live to serve the Main family anymore, those were his words, and it cannot get any clearer than that.
And that idea of Neji still having the Seal so he was still a slave - Once the Seal is branded it cannot be removed. So of course he still had it. However, simply possessing the seal does not make him a slave, being treated as a slave does, and that was no longer the case.

Chapter 3
The Crimson Moon
3rd person's P.o.v :
As the first round was starting and everyone watching in anticipation and fear an another occurrence is happening within the shadows of Valhalla. Slayers, assassins and Shinobis gathered everywhere watching of any suspicious or a surprise attack to end someones or rather kill a Gods life. It might seems impossible but it was possible to Demons now.
"ARGHH WHY WE'RE NOT GOING AGAINST THOSE GODS!?!??" Hidan roared in anger, he is so pissed of not being able to participate in the Ragnarok.
With him is Kakuzu, deidara and sasori flying around Valhalla and is far enough not to be notice by any Gods.
"You should stop complaining it's annoying hm" Deidara only replied, though it was clear as day that if the association participated not only they will be able to defeat the Gods, but their and the associations identity...somewhat....
Hidan just grumbled to himself, he honestly want to kill those Gods for their decision. Kakuzu has been looking after Hidan and seeing how he wants to participate badly.
Kakuzu cant help but sigh "It's not only you brat, you should know that everyone has the same thought".
Hidan looks at Kakuzu and as usual he is right. Hidan knows and knows Kakuzu is right, but at the thought of killing a God makes him feel.
...
At the halls of Valhalla
Two figures can be seen walking nowhere. Having the eyes that can see through anything is sure a advantage.
They thought of the same thing when they were alive...'Such family we came, that these eyes can see through but not throughly'

Akira and Umeki Hyuga
Short introduction :
Akira and Umeki Hyuga are Neji,Hinata and hanabi's Uncle and Auntie and they participated both at 3rd great ninja war and 4th Great ninja war. Akira and Umeki both was killed by two different Otsutsuki. Akira died at the hands of Momoshiki, died to protect the kages from him. Umeki died at the hands of Urashiki saving Boruto and Naruto when they time travelled.
Back to them
Umeki's P.o.v :
Me and my brother are suppose to be patrolling right about now, my brother should be patrolling at the Philippines Pantheon and I should be patrolling around here in Valhalla. But we do sense the demons but it was nice if it's going to be a surprise attack and for everyone to be not worry. I have informed them of the demons were outside and at the stands. To which Y/n and the others was annoyed about us. You see even if I'm a kind of person who is a modest, I can show too a crazy side of me.
But right now me and my brother was just joking around but then things gone serious when he tell me...
"I will have to talk to Brunhilde and Y/n about my match" Akira my younger brother of 3hrs told me.
My eyes widened to what he said, it was clear that one of the few rules of our association is to not reveal our identities. And yet my brother is ready to disobey 'Her'. I grabbed my brother's shoulders suddenly.
"What?! Are you Crazy?! Our true identities and what we are will blow our covers!!" I said in a hush and shocked tone.
I can see it to my brother, the willingness, I know this gaze this was the gaze he will always give me whenever he was about to do something.
"I don't want Adam to participate, I want to be the one to fight for him, for everyone" he said.
And that was 1hr ago and I left him be and do it. It's not that I do not care, but I have a lot of trust in him that he will win this....We just have to wait until they show up.......and until my brother starts to get 'Kuro'.....
"Oh well, time to go we don't want to gain attention of a certain Norse god after all" I just sighed

Tori vs Dosu: Words of a Traitor's Daughter
Fandom: Naruto Rating: T Pairing: None (yet) Word Count: 3.7k Warnings: Canon-typical violence, OC centric, mild language
A/N: Tori finally gets a moment to shine! 🎉 This is her battle from the Chunin Exam preliminaries against Dosu from the Sound Village.
So, while there is no romance here, this is the first time both Lee and Gaara saw Tori. Obviously, she leaves a lasting impression on them both, even if they don't know it yet.
Due to its place in the timeline, Lee gets a little more favored since Gaara is currently their enemy. But don't worry, Gaara will get his chance soon enough.
Tori's match takes place after Shikamaru and Kin's, and before Naruto and Kiba's.
All right, I believe that's all the housekeeping announcements. Enjoy!
~
Tumblr media
Tori’s eyes locked on the screen as the remaining names flashed in quick succession. Half of the genin were left to compete in the preliminary round, herself included. The odds that she would go next were growing greater and greater. She smoothed her purple hair, making sure no loose strands of hair had escaped her braid.
Nearby, the boy in the green jumpsuit - Rock Lee, age 13, Leaf Village, skills unknown, loud and annoying, not a threat - clenched his fists. “Come on!” he shouted. “Let me go next! It has been so long!”
Kyo, Tori’s teammate who was also awaiting his turn, snorted. “What a dumbass,” he said. “Actually wanting to go?”
Tori couldn’t disagree.
“Maybe he’s got a death wish,” Takeshi, her other teammate, said.
“You’re one to talk,” Kyo said. “That Kabuto guy wasn’t even trying. You got lucky.”
The screen finally froze, and all eyes turned upward to see the two names.
Dosu Kinuta
vs.
Tori Kawasaki
Tori’s mind whirled as she looked across the room at her new opponent. Sound Village, age unknown, uses soundwaves from the speaker on his arm, quiet, moderate threat. Her mouth thinned, but otherwise her expression remained unchanged.
Kyo clasped her shoulder. “You got this, Tori.”
Tori nodded, but didn’t reply. She merely started walking along the railing towards the stairs.
Lee groaned in dismay, staring at the screen as Tori approached. “I am never going to get to go!”
“Don’t sweat it, Lee!” Might Guy, Lee’s sensei, said before giving his student a thumbs up. “Your time will come! For now, think of this as an opportunity to study your future opponents.”
Lee perked up immediately. “Ah yes, right you are, Guy-sensei!”
Tori rolled her eyes. She tried to step around Lee, but he and his sensei were taking up too much space. She lifted her hand, trying to get their attention, but they didn’t notice her in between their loud declarations about “youth”.
Naruto squinted up at the board. “But who the heck are those two? I don’t know either of ‘em.”
“Well, Dosu Kinuta is that guy, from the Sound,” Sakura said, pointing at the boy currently making his way down to the area from the other side. “But I don’t know the other one.”
Neji, leaning against the wall with his arms crossed, huffed.
Lee frowned at him. “Do you know who that is, Neji?”
Neji looked past Lee, his pale eyes boring into Tori’s. “She’s the one trying to get past you, Lee.”
Lee immediately whirled around, his expression immediately apologetic. “I am so sorry,” he said, stepping out of the way before bowing to her.
Tori shook her head, her hands folded and her head held high as she passed through the gauntlet of other genin, ignoring the eyes watching her descend to the ground level.
Shikamaru groaned from above her. “Great. Another loss for the Leaf.”
Kyo and Takeshi both snickered quietly. Shikamaru gave them a peculiar look.
“How can you say that?” Lee demanded indignantly. “The fight has not yet begun!”
“I can say that because I have eyes, dummy.”
Tori sighed, then took her spot across from Dosu and sized him up. They shared the same eye level, but that was because Dosu was hunched over under his straw raincoat. Tori estimated that Dosu had a good ten centimeters on her should he choose to stand at his full height. His bandages hid most of his expression, with the exception of a single eye, which peered at her with the same level of analysis that she was employing. His aura was darker, his build more menacing. Compared to her thinner, more frail appearance, Dosu looked like an impossible opponent.
Hayate took his spot nearby, looking between the two opponents. “Do either of you have any objections?”
“None,” Dosu replied.
Tori shook her head.
“Very well,” Hayate said. “Then if you’re ready, begin.”
Dosu’s eye narrowed. “You should really rethink this match, little girl,” he said. “If you don’t surrender now, I can’t promise you’ll walk away from here.”
Tori didn’t reply. Instead, she pulled her glasses from her face and cleaned them on her shirt.
She could hear the murmurs from above as soon as she did so. One of the Sand ninjas, the one in all black - Kankuro, Sand Village, age unknown, puppet user, arrogant, moderate threat - said, “She couldn’t clean her glasses before she got down there?”
“Shut up, Kankuro,” said another, the one with the raspy voice this time.
Gaara, age unknown, Sand Village, skills unknown, creepy, threat level unknown.
“There’s no point in cleaning those,” Dosu remarked. “Unless you forfeit, I’m just going to break them anyway.”
Tori just resettled the glasses on her face and looked at Dosu, waiting.
“Nothing to say, huh?” Dosu said. “All right, let’s see what you can do, little girl.”
With that he charged at her, the Sound Reflecting Speaker on his arm hoisted and ready.
~
Lee watched anxiously as Tori gracefully leapt out of the way of Dosu’s punch. His worries proved correct when she suddenly recoiled, her hands clasping her ears before a trickle of blood ran down from each. He unconsciously rubbed his own ears, remembering just how badly Dosu’s attack had affected him out in the Forest. He hoped she would be all right.
Nearby, her two teammates cheered for her. “Kick his ass, Tori!” Kyo called down.
“Yeah!” Takeshi added. “Show this guy what the Leaf is made of!”
Neji scoffed, once again catching Lee’s attention. “Neji, do you know this girl?” Lee asked him.
“Not personally,” Neji replied. “But I’m aware of who she is.”
“Who is she?” Sakura asked, looking at him curiously.
Something shifted in the air as she asked the question. All of the jonin present, even Might Guy, looked a little graver. Sakura looked up at Kakashi, worried. “Did…I say something wrong?”
“No, you didn’t,” a nearby voice said. Genma pushed himself off his spot on the wall, joining the other ninja with a grim smile on his face. “It’s just not a very nice story is all.”
“She’s one of yours, isn’t she, Genma?” Kurenai asked.
“Sure is,” Genma replied, twirling the senbon in his mouth. “So I hope you don’t mind if I interject.”
“Not at all,” Kakashi said.
“Why does it matter who she is?” Kyo said, looking over in annoyance. “She’s from our village. That’s what’s important right now.”
“I wouldn’t say so,” Neji interjected.
Genma gave him a withering look, but Neji just looked back, unimpressed.
“If you know something, just spit it out and don’t leave us in suspense,” Shikamaru said.
“I’m surprised you don’t know, Shikamaru, given your father’s position,” Neji replied. “Tori Kawasaki is the daughter of one of the Leaf’s most notorious traitors.”
Lee’s stomach dropped. Of all of the things he’d expected to hear, that wasn’t one of them. Around him, the other genin looked exactly the same, with varying looks of shock on their faces.
“The daughter of a traitor?” Ino repeated, horrified.
Kakashi sighed. “Yes. Her father was Shiranami Chikara. He deserted the Leaf village about seven years ago, and on his way, he took the lives of several prominent shinobi with him. Many at the time thought Tori and her mother must have known something ahead of time, or done something to help orchestrate his departure, so they were branded traitors along with him. That’s long since been disproven, but even so, many still associate Tori with him.”
“But she had nothing to do with that!” Lee said. “She is here fighting for our village! How could people call her a traitor when she did nothing?”
“I know, I know,” Kakashi said, putting his hands up. “Believe me, I’m aware of how ridiculous it is for a child to inherit the weight of a parent’s sins. But for other people, it’s a lot harder to see that.”
“Exactly,” Genma said. “And that’s why I don’t want to hear that bullshit from any of you.” He twirled his senbon meaningfully as he stared down Neji. “She’s heard it more than enough.”
Lee’s hands clamped the railing tightly, forming dents in the metal as rage burned within him. “You can do it, Tori!” he called down, watching her push herself back to her feet. “Show that guy what a true shinobi of the Leaf can do!”
For the briefest of moments, Tori’s sapphire eyes flicked upward, peering up at him through her rounded glasses before refocusing on her battle.
~
Across the room, the Sand shinobi watched the fight with varying levels of apathy. Temari declared the match over as soon as she saw Tori descending the stairs and leaned against the wall, bored. Kankuro expressed surprise that the match had lasted this long and lamented not having a snack to enjoy the show with. Baki hadn’t verbally expressed an opinion, but was watching the match with a skeptical expression, clearly indicating he agreed with Temari’s assessment.
Meanwhile Gaara, as silent as a stone, watched the match with his arms folded. He didn’t have a horse in this race. The Leaf girl was an outright enemy, and while the Sound and Sand currently had an alliance, that was of little importance to Gaara. No matter who did what today, they would all eventually become bloody mist within his grains of sand.
But unlike his fellow shinobi, he was more skeptical about the outcome of the match currently unfolding.
He had of course noticed the contempt she received from her own village, with the exception of the most annoying boys the Leaf village had within its ranks, especially the one in all green. He also noticed the differences between Tori and her opponent, with his initial thoughts being parallel to those around him, that Tori would lose very quickly.
But then he’d noticed something else. In spite of seemingly overwhelming odds against her, she wasn’t afraid. Her demeanor was calm and controlled, her eyes studying Dosu with a frightening level of analysis. She was taking attacks, yes, but she also seemed to be watching, waiting, for something.
That meant that she had a trick of some kind up her sleeve. Something she clearly thought would give her the edge in battle. Something that gave her enough confidence to look at her seemingly-favored opponent and think she could still win.
So Gaara reserved his judgment. He merely watched the battle unfold, eyes narrowing as Tori rubbed her ears in pain from another sound attack, waiting for her to unleash whatever she was withholding.
~
Dosu’s eyes narrowed as he leapt back, taking a moment to study Tori as they both caught their breath. “Interesting,” he commented. “I used the same attack on you as I did on that other guy with glasses. But while his lenses shattered almost instantly, yours are still intact. Why is that?”
Tori stayed silent, answering his query with a shrug.
“You really don’t like to talk, do you?” Dosu said. “It’s almost like we’re opposites in a way. I wield sound, and you wield silence.” He brandished his arm. “But I bet if I hit you in just the right way, you’ll still make a sound.”
Tori’s eyes narrowed. She assumed a fighting stance, one hand curled behind her back, the other in front beckoning Dosu forward.
Dosu accepted her challenge. He swung his arm forward as he charged, unleashing a devastating wave of sound across the arena. Tori turned just in time, covering her eyes and ears with her fingers as the wave hit her. She flew across the room, colliding with the wall with a sickening crack.
Above her, she heard several of the genin groan. “Pathetic,” she heard someone say.
Then she heard Lee’s voice cut through the rest. “Get up, Tori!”
She looked back up to the upper level. Lee was precariously leaning over the railing, his dark eyes boring into hers.
“You cannot let him win so easily!” he called down. “Show him your true strength as a shinobi of the Leaf!”
He was still very loud, but his earnest support touched something in Tori. She smiled at him in response, winking one eye.
Lee fell silent, looking down at her with wide eyes.
Tori gritted her teeth, then forced herself to her feet. She felt the world tilt slightly as she stood, and she put her hand on the wall to help her balance.
“Honestly, if you’re not even going to fight back, I don’t see a point in continuing this,” Dosu said. “It’s often said that the shinobi who moves second loses. But you haven’t made a move at all, so how can you expect to win?”
Tori lifted her head. Slowly, she brought her hand in front of her, her index finger pointed at Dosu.
“So you can do something after all,” Dosu said. “All right, let’s see it.”
Tori’s finger moved, drawing a character in the air. She then whispered, “Bind.”
The character suddenly glowed before zooming across the room. It collided with Dosu’s chest, then spread out across his body like chains. Dosu let out a startled grunt and tried to force his arms free, but the word’s grip only tightened.
Around the room, the skeptical looks and comments instantly died away. The only sound was from Naruto, who shouted, “What the heck was that?!”
Dosu glared at her through his bandages. “What an interesting jutsu,” he commented. “It’s not one I’ve ever seen before.”
Tori ignored him, retrieving a kunai from her hip pouch.
“Enlighten me,” Dosu said. “Why did you not use this jutsu before? It’s certainly more effective than just trying to avoid my attacks.”
Tori glared at him, but remained silent as she advanced on him, kunai at the ready.
Dosu glared right back. “I know you’re capable of speech. You spoke just now when you activated your jutsu.” When Tori still didn’t speak, Dosu continued, “Fine. If you won’t make a sound, then I will.”
The speaker on his arm began to vibrate violently, producing a sound that caused even the spectators to cover their ears. Tori leapt back, putting as much space between herself and Dosu as possible. She tried to concentrate on maintaining her jutsu, but the character flickered and faded as the sound grew louder. Dosu strained against his bonds, then tore through them with a loud grunt. “There, that’s better.” He stretched out his shoulders. “I must say, I’m disappointed. Such an impressive jutsu does nothing in the hands of someone so weak.”
Tori’s eyes narrowed. She covered her ears, waiting for Dosu to make another move.
Dosu studied her hands, unimpressed. “That won’t help you, little girl.” He charged at her once more. “Even if you cover your ears, I can still make the sound reach them.”
His fist collided with her stomach. The air instantly vaporized from her chest with a quiet gasp, and she hunched over, clinging to his arm.
Dosu chuckled quietly. The speaker began to vibrate, readying for another powerful soundwave. “It’s over, little girl.”
And then Tori lifted her hand, drawing a new character right above his arm.
“Explode.”
Dosu’s eye widened in shock as a bright light formed between them. He tried to leap away, but the light consumed the arena with a loud boom, filling the space with smoke. He rolled back several feet, his clothes smoking.
When the dust settled, Tori stood unscathed, a glowing “shield” surrounding her.
Before Dosu had time to recover, Tori charged forth. This time, Dosu was the one who flew into the wall as Tori’s foot collided with his face. Dosu let out a pained shout before crumpling to the floor. He pushed himself up, swinging his arm forward.
But, as the speaker vibrated, cracks spiderwebbed out from the holes before it shattered completely.
Tori smiled as Dosu stared at the shattered remains of his weapon. She then drew another character in the air. “Bind.”
The glowing chains once again wrapped around Dosu. Tori crossed the room in the blink of an eye, bringing her heel down on Dosu’s head and sending him crashing to the ground.
Dosu groaned, his eye closing before he slumped back against the wall.
Tori backed away as Hayate approached, waiting as he inspected Dosu. Then Hayate stood back up. “This match is over,” he declared. “Winner, Tori Kawasaki.”
Tori bowed to him, then turned towards the stairs.
“Wait.”
Tori glanced back as Dosu tilted his head up at her. “How…” he muttered. “Did someone as weak as you…beat me?”
“I prefer not to waste words on those who don’t deserve it.”
Dosu’s eye widened. Above her, she could hear the murmured reactions. She supposed they were surprised she could speak more than a single word at a time.
“You should watch what you say, little girl,” Dosu replied. “Your words might come back to haunt you later.”
Feeling tired, Tori turned away, ignoring Dosu’s threat as she returned to the upper level.
~
“Unbelievable,” Kankuro said. “Who would have thought that pipsqueak was packing that much power?”
Gaara’s eyes narrowed. “Idiot,” he growled.
“What?” Kankuro asked. “Don’t tell me you knew.”
Gaara’s eyes slid over, a warning glint within them. “If you had used your eyes, you would have known,” he said.
Baki gave Gaara a curious look. “What do you mean, Lord Gaara?”
Gaara returned his gaze to Tori as she ascended to the platform across from him. “She was never afraid at any point during her match. Not once, not even when the Sound shinobi landed his attacks. She knew what she was doing.”
“So you’re saying she was in control from the start,” Temari said. She smirked. “Interesting. I hope we get paired in the next round. I might actually get to have some fun.”
The sand rattled in Gaara’s gourd. Not if I get her first.
~
Lee cheered even louder than Tori’s teammates as she climbed back onto their platform. “Well done!” he said, giving her a thumbs up. “Congratulations on an excellent fight.”
Tori peered at him curiously, but only said, “Thank you.”
Genma nodded at her. “He’s right, you did very well,” he said. “You should be proud.”
Tori bowed. “Thank you, sensei.”
“I gotta ask,” Shikamaru piped up. “How’d you pull that off? We all thought you were done for.”
Shikamaru Nara, age 12, Leaf Village, high tactical skills, very lazy, moderate threat.
“You’re the smart one,” Tori remarked as she passed him. “Figure it out.”
Shikamaru scoffed, but then Hayate called for the next names to be drawn, and everyone’s attention was once again diverted, giving Tori a moment to breathe. Naruto erupted in a cheer moments later, followed by Kiba laughing and saying he’d won the lottery. Tori shook her head as she watched the boys race down to the lower level, then sat down, grateful for the chance to rest her aching muscles.
Lee groaned and leaned over the railing next to her, looking dejected. “I am going to die of old age before it is my turn!”
Tori peered up at him quietly, contemplating whether to say something. But the memory of Lee cheering her on during her match made up her mind. “Your name’s Lee, right?”
He looked down at her in surprise, then joined her on the ground. “Yes, that is me.”
“Thank you for your encouragement during my match,” Tori said. “But…why did you do that? You aren’t my teammate.”
“Perhaps not,” Lee said. “But that should not matter. You are one of us.” He grinned at her, light reflecting off of his teeth. “So of course I will cheer you on!”
Tori turned, strands of purple hair that had escaped her braid falling in front of her face. “Thank you,” she whispered.
“Do not mention it,” he said, giving her a thumbs up. “I only hope that you will do the same for me when it is finally my turn!”
“Of course,” Tori murmured. “It’s the least I can do.”
Rock Lee, age 13, Leaf Village, skills unknown, annoying kind, not a threat.
“Your tactics were most impressive indeed,” Lee went on. “You shall be a splendid shinobi once the Exams are over.”
A sincere chuckle escaped Tori’s lips. “Thank you,” she said. “But I promise, it wasn’t anything too special. Just simple observation.”
Lee looked at her curiously.
“I’ve had my eye on the Sound shinobi since before the First Exam,” Tori explained. “And all of them have clearly mastered whichever jutsu they specialize in. But all of them also showed a glaring weakness. They only ever used one jutsu apiece. After seeing all of them in multiple battles, my hypothesis was that those jutsus were the only ones they could use at all. During my battle, once I was sure that I was right, I simply disabled the means with which he could use that jutsu, and the battle was mine.”
Lee’s mouth fell open. After several seconds, he said, “Forgive me, I must correct my earlier statement.”
Tori frowned.
“When I said you would become a splendid shinobi, I was mistaken,” Lee said. “You already are one, Tori Kawasaki.”
Tori sat in silence for several seconds as warmth pooled within her. “You are very kind to say that,” she said, closing her hand over her heart.
Lee grinned at her, and she offered him a small smile in return.
Then her hair stood up on the back of her neck. A chill crept down her spine. It felt as if someone else was watching her, someone with ill intent. Frowning, she looked around the room, but everyone else was focused on Kiba and Naruto, rolling their eyes as the two boys yelled at each other in between blows.
Then she looked down. Hovering next to her shoulder was a small eye with a seafoam colored pupil. Alarmed, she swatted at it as if it were a fly. It disintegrated at once, turning into sand before vanishing through the air. She blinked several times at the empty space, wondering if she’d imagined it.
Then she looked up, and she immediately knew the source.
Even from across the room, Gaara was laser focused on her, his arms crossed. As their gazes met, his eyes narrowed, as if he was already challenging her to a match. His fingers twitched, and she could just barely make out something floating in the air around him.
In spite of the hot summer day, she shivered, hoping she hadn’t somehow just made a mortal enemy.

Halloween 2022
A little short tale for Halloween... As the name suggests, it was meant to be Edgar Allan Poe inspired, but as you'll notice it ended up as something completely different.
Nevermore
Ship: NejiHina.
Neji’s POV.
If I’m allowed to say something about my past life, may it be I lived more than once in a same lifetime. Or should I say, I died more than once in the time spam of a brief life.
Death come across when the illusion and innocence of a childhood time is torn apart, death meets your end when the reasoning you’ve built upon your mind is proven a lie; the most obvious form of death comes when your heart stops beating, your body functions ceased… a biological death, of course.
But the most painful and scattering form of death comes when said heart is torn open and bleeding out it’s regret, the grief of the lost love and the crushing weight of one’s mistakes. It’s easy to believe that such a damnation of the heart would numb the senses in a protective manner, but it does not: the broken heart feels in every piece with more intensity than the full heart ever did. That is the agonizing and long, torturing form of death I died the most.
But I shall not speak of death, as in the impact it had on my life, without mentioning the only death I truly resented: hers.
The sole mention of her existence, let it be her name, feels improper on my lips. How could I tell the tale of her precious existence or describe the purity of her soul having being me, precisely, the one who took all the glory of her days from this world?
It was by my hand that death encounter her and extinguished the brightest light I’ve ever seen, drowning me in the depths of desperation and darkness.
I, of course, was oblivious of the terrible impact my actions would have on my future life and how they were destroying for once and for all the calming beauty of her presence, a constant in my heart unbeknownst to me.
I can’t feign ignorance or to claim I didn’t know what I was doing though, for I knew very well the consequences my every move would have upon her body.
I allowed the hatred in my soul dictate the force and direction of each and all of my attacks, I trusted in the sight of supposed all seeing eyes that, having been covered by the black veil of resentment and misunderstanding, failed to see what she really was and what she meant to me.
When I knew the truth denied to me for all those years, it was late.
It was after the one and only battle I have lost, where I aired my false believes for the world to see, that my uncle came to me and revealed the truth of my ever first death: my father’s.
The truth fell upon me as a freeing revelation, my destiny coming to an end, when the possibility of a choice was presented to me.
But it was, in all sense, a second death, for all the life I knew since that doomed day when I was 4 until that very point of my life was cemented on the lies I both created and held on to as they were whispered to my ears.
The acceptance of the truth, even of such a truth that would liberate one’s soul, comes as a challenge and not as an easy acquisition.
But later that day, I heard the prologue to what would become my damnation.
While I busied myself spurting my complaints during my match at the tournament, she fell victim of the sequels my match against her, happened a month prior, had left upon her heart.
She lost conscious given the frail state my coldblooded attacks had left her in, bordering death.
Damn was I! Just when the slightest trace of hope had been offered to me! I felt the urge to blame myself and front the most terrible torture, not even knowing why.
I sneaked on to the hospital room she was being held, unconscious, to see her beautiful face, paler than ever, looking as the sweetest angel came to life, just like she did the first time I ever laid eyes on her, many years ago.
The memories of our childhood brief but significant days flooded my mind, and as the sound of her voice echoed inside me, both the musical laughter of our early days and the words she told me the last time, during our match, that revealed how hurt she was from my estrangement of years and how much pain I inflicted on her that day, physical and emotional, I came to the sudden and painful realization.
I loved her.
That was the only truth I could ever be sure about. I loved her during every single second of my existence. That was the reason why I could never erase her from my thoughts, which would fuel the rage inside me. It was the cause of my self-forced hatred towards her, the source of the rancor I thought I felt and tried, wrongly, to use as a weapon against her during that doomed match.
Too much for a young life, was it hers or mine.
A week later, I knew for sure she would never awake.
That was when I died the most. Ever since that day I’ve never been alive, not a trace or hope of salvation.
Why I escaped the village was not an act of cowardly, for I knew myself deserver of all sorts of punishments and tortures.
I did because I was pushed to it instead.
My grandfather instructed me to do so. I could not understand, she was the heiress of the Clan, my uncle’s daughter, and as he was indeed indebted to my father, it was also her daughter who died by my hand. Why wasn’t I being punished to death?
When I arrived at the small town where my grandfather order me to go, I met the young man he talked about.
Black hair and onyx eyes, bearer of a profound sadness I could comprehend well mine mirrored. This was a man many learnt to fear, the one that murdered the completely of his clan. A genius.
His long cloak, red clouds over black background, revealed with clarity the criminal he had become.
An identical cloak was given to me, an identical destiny fell upon my shoulders.
-This is home, Neji-Kun. –He said to me.
-What home can it be? –I retorted.
-The only one available to such as us. Tools of other’s machinations.
-A tool you say, Itachi-san? Criminals are we.
-You’re not here to betray those that raised you, but to serve both masters. As me, you’ll be the spy of the Hidden Leaf Village and the brake of Akatsuki’s advances against them.
-Why though? You are regarded as a criminal and despised by all villagers, why would you protect them?
-For that was my choice. What I did I had a reason for it.
-I had no choice… no, I did. But what I did I have no excuse for.
-I’m aware of your situation, but I disagree. You’ll soon learn that the strings are often held by greater forces than us, and we are puppets of thy. This is the only time when your destiny will be yours, and the road the only home you’ll ever know, but now you’re free from them.
It was no long after that first exchange that I understood what he talked about. I learnt the truth of the Uchiha genius that killed a clan on demand. And I learnt, by matter of deduction, the truth about the “Hyuga genius” that was used to get rid of the waste.
It made me sick to my core, but the realization of such an obvious thing made me feel such a fool… how could I not noticed before? How could I allow myself to fall for their schemes?
They wanted, needed her death for Hanabi to succeed the clan. Cruel, scheming, coldblooded.
It made sense why I was spared from killing her, why I wasn’t punished in the first place the very day I almost killed her during the match, and why, though present, not my uncle nor my grandfather intervened on our battle. Haven’t the jounins stopped me, she would have died at that same moment, as they wished.
How different would it be, I would not need to flee for death was a possibility during the match and she had signed the consent. It made me even more sick the thought of having killed her then, oblivious to the manipulation done to me, and be kept as their “tool” for all my life.
Sure was I the truth about my father would not be revealed to me had it happened. It was my uncle’s regret and only his consciousness betrayal that lead him to confess. I was suspicious, as in a hope, that it was that same “weakness” of him why my grandfather sent me away: he might resent his daughter death, even if a waste of a daughter.
The years passed and the life as a criminal was suitable for me, for a murderer I was in the end, schemes or not, and I shall never forgive myself or find salvation.
It was upon my 17° year of life and the genius pair of Uchiha and Hyuga were known as the most sought for criminals.
I, of course, refused to go inside the village with Itachi, for I could not bear the memories of her nor the sight of those traitors that planned her disposal.
So I waited at the camp in the midst of the forest surrounding the Village, a safe distance from the gates of Konoha.
It was the harshest winter I could remember, but the snow had stopped falling and the night seemed quiet. Almost peaceful.
The sound of a known musical laughter awaked me at midnight, my comrade still not coming. I could have dismissed that sound, was it not followed by the clear timbre of her voice. A voice that would lit my nightmares and regrets when in my mind, but that upon hearing it now, for real, filled my heart with calm.
I cradled out of the tent, following the trace of her voice. At the sight of the forest under the pale light of the moon, I recognized the spot. It was this place where she and I had come once during our sweetest childhood days with our fathers.
The memories of the tiny angel girl came to live in front of my eyes, I could almost see her running around the trees calling my name and offering her small hand to hold mine, just like before.
I followed the child’s ghostly silhouette first, but then the voice became louder and clearer, and so I followed it then, hypnotized.
I stumbled until I reached the border of the frozen river, barely conscious of the danger. I almost stopped, but when I saw her, pale and beautiful, alive, standing in the middle of the ice covered stream I could not stop my steps.
The sight of her was different, as if she had not been death but living, changing, growing like me. Her hair was now long black strands cascading to her back, unlike the short style she used to wear. The dress was pure white, as the lily flower she was holding and offering to me, adding to the eerie ghostly scene developing in front of my eyes.
Hinata.
I almost believed, almost. Hadn’t I seen her myself on the cold wooden frame of her coffin, and watched as she was buried, I could have believed.
-Am I being deceived? –I asked, feeling foolish but hypnotized by her sight.
-Trust what you see, Neji-niisan. –Oh, the sound of her voice! –It’s time for you to be with me, to find relief to your soul.
I reached, close almost enough to touch her. An unexplainable force pulling me near her.
-Why? How could I find salvation? How could you forgive me? For what happened to you, I am to blame.
-Shh! Quiet love! I am free now. The only captive is you, but I was sent to release you.
-Free?
-As in death they will not find me.
I was dumbfounded, but willing to believe if there was a possibility to find her again.
-Hinata, oh! How I missed you, how I love you, how I regret…
-Neji… you are now with me. No words are needed, for without the restraints of the living, I know your heart as I know mine.
I took the flower offered to me, and just when I touched it, the ice beneath my feet crushed and the sound of the splashing water was not heard by my ears for her voice filled them.
The contact of the freezing water was no torture but relief.
For now I knew, for certain, not her nor me, would be awake again. Nevermore.

Hi! Not sure if you're still taking Team 8 prompts but I wanted to request this:
Since we got to see Hinata's awesome pingpong skills in the latest Boruto episode, I'd love to see a story with team 8 playing pingpong (maybe that could be a story about Kiba and Shino discovering Hinata's talent in playing the sport for the first time or something hehe)
Thank you!
Sure! I’m capping off these now at around 20-21 chapters. Thanks for sending in the requests! :)
***
As a child, Hinata was not that good at close combat. She lacked the natural ability of Neji nii-san, of Hanabi, of geniuses and wonder children. Everything she achieved in taijutsu training, she achieved through hard work.
Still, that did not mean that she was completely devoid of any natural ability. No. Her upper body strength was off the charts, when she really, really tried hard. This, Kiba found out the hard way.
It was just a fun game of ping pong, he thought. Just a fun game of ping pong during a fun team outing to an onsen. Hinata really hated when people went easy on her during games. She specifically asked Kiba and Shino not to hold back just because it was a two-against-one match, and likewise promised that she wouldn't hold back either. Kiba agreed with a smile that showed all his teeth, and then the game began.
It was just supposed to be a fun ping pong game. But Hinata meant what she said about not holding back. Her eyebrows furrowed in concentration as she raised her paddle. She activated her Byakugan as she threw the ball into the air. And as she hit the ball in a clear, crystal-clear arc like a blazing comet, Kiba gulped nervously.
He would later deny this vociferously, but maybe, just maybe, her pop-out veins may have, hmm...made Kiba scream like a kid.
***
"You didn't have to hit the ball so hard," he whimpered, lying prone on the floor, eyes watering, his voice oddly high-pitched.
"You have poor reflexes," Shino scolded. "If you didn't scream and run away like that, the ball would never have touched you."
"It should be illegal to hit that hard!"
Hinata winced, eyes downcast, head hung low. "I – I'm sorr – "
"She did nothing wrong. You are responsible for our team's loss. Why? Because – "
"Because Hinata has monstrous upper body stren – owww." Trying to get up after being dealt such a deadly blow was a massive mistake. Kiba tried. Kiba failed, doubling over and clutching his midsection, face ghostly pale. Getting a tennis ball to the groin was an awful experience, it seemed. If only he knew how to duck properly.
Kurenai blew the whistle, an amused smile playing on her lips. It was always the nice ones.

The many similarities between Hinata and Kushina (a.k.a. debunking antis' "logic" and "theories" and making them cry big salty tears in defeat for the umpteenth time)
1) Both women have unique hair colors that match their respective personalities:
Kushina has red hair and is a hot-blooded fiery redhead.
Hinata has dark blue hair and is a quiet, initially shy blue-haired girl (this one is anime-only, since, as you and I have discussed before, no one seems to agree on what Hinata's hair color really is).
2) Both women were kidnapped by Kumo ninja when they were younger because of the powers they possessed:
For Kushina, it was because she was the host of the Jinchuriki and thus had unique chakra (Chapter 498).
For Hinata, it was her Byakugan (Chapter 102).
3) Both women fell in love with their husbands because their husbands are nice, good men:
Kushina initially thought Minato was "rather girly and undependable", but she realized she was in love with him specifically because he was nice and good, after he rescued her from the Kumo ninja (Chapter 498).
Hinata has always loved Naruto for being nice and good, considering they first met when he rescued her from three bullies (The Last), and, out of all his friends, she is the only one whom he always treats with respect and kindness, even more so after they develop a real friendship in the Chunin Exams arc in Part 1, because he's always nice to her whenever they're together and he never once berates her for anything (do recall that he has mutual bickering friendships with everyone else in the Konoha 11/Rookie 9, except Hinata).
4) Both women fell in love with their husbands because their husbands changed them for the better, which I pointed out here in my own post.
5) Both women attracted the attentions of their husbands because of their strength:
Minato became smitten with Kushina after he realized she could fight off her bullies without any help (I believe this one is anime-only).
Naruto realizes that, just like him, Hinata is very determined and willful despite being called a failure, fighting against stronger opponents like Neji and Pain and yet never giving up anyways, which causes him to think she's incredible (Chapter 80), and he sports a damn proud smile when he recalls how she defended him against Pain (Chapter 559).
6) Both women are not afraid to sacrifice their lives to protect Naruto because of their love for him, and they were attacked when they stood right in front of him:
Kushina threw herself in front of the Nine-Tails so that its giant claw impaled her instead of baby-Naruto, and then she grabbed the claw to physically stop it from reaching baby-Naruto, before she finally died from completely bleeding out (Chapter 504).
Hinata almost died twice while trying to save Naruto — first when she threw herself in front of Naruto and stood up against Pain, engaging in a fight and managing to push him back before he stabbed her (Chapter 437); second when she threw herself in front of Naruto to save him from Obito's wooden stake, only for Neji to take the hit for her instead (Chapter 614).
7) Both women were bullied as children because of a physical feature of theirs:
For Kushina, it was her round face and red hair (Chapter 498).
For Hinata, it was her Byakugan eyes (The Last).
8) As revealed in The Last, both women enjoy knitting scarves:
Kushina knitted a gray and white bordered scarf, which was left in the care of the Third Hokage upon her death.
Hinata knits a red scarf, which she hopes to give to Naruto as a way to not only confess her feelings again, but to initiate a relationship with him.
9) As already mentioned above, both women fell in love with their husbands in the exact same way — being rescued by them:
Kushina fell in love with Minato after he rescued her from the Kumo ninja who kidnapped her (Chapter 498).
Hinata fell in love with Naruto after he protected her from three bullies on the day they first met, when they were enrolling in the Academy (The Last).
10) The Red String of Fate was utilized in both couples' rescue scenarios:
For Kushina, it was her long red hair. Her spirit tells Naruto that her red hair led her to her soulmate, Minato, because he was the only rescuer who noticed that she had been leaving a trail of her hair (Chapter 498).
For Hinata, it was a red scarf. When they were children, Naruto let her keep his red scarf after he saved her from three bullies, who ruined the scarf. Since then, she has been wanting to give him her own handmade red scarf. When Naruto finally does receive it, it's in tatters due to Toneri destroying it out of jealous spite, but he wholeheartedly accepts it anyways and even tells Hinata, whom he now realizes is his soulmate, that he'll cherish it forever (The Last).
11) Both women are considered very beautiful by their husbands partly because of their long flowing hair:
Minato boldly complimented Kushina's long red hair when he rescued her from the Kumo ninja (Chapter 498), and her hair reaches down to her ankles in the manga (only to her thighs in the anime).
As you and I and other NH fans have pointed out for years, and Kishimoto himself via "The Uzumaki Pure Love Scroll" in "The Last Official Movie Guidebook", Naruto did show signs of subconsciously reciprocating Hinata's love in the second half of Part II, when her hair reaches down to her lower back (Chapter 558 and beyond), and he wholeheartedly reciprocates her love when her hair reaches down to her hips (The Last).
12) Both women are considered amazing chefs by their husbands, as shown by how much both men love their respective wives' cooking:
Minato's favorite food was Kushina's home cooking (the databooks — which, unfortunately, as dubious as they are, are the only source that can be found regarding this).
Naruto says he prefers Hinata's home cooking rather than the cup noodles he's been eating at work lately (Boruto Episode 12), and he boasts to Kawaki that Hinata's home cooking is delicious and tells him to look forward to it (Boruto Chapter 26).
13) Both women passed down their round face and eye shape to their sons:
Kushina points out that Naruto inherited her face (Chapter 498).
Sasuke internally points out that Boruto inherited the "delicate, refined facial features" from Hinata (Boruto the Movie novel Chapter 2).
14) Both women are considered really scary by their sons when they get mad:
Naruto points this out about Kushina (Chapter 498).
Boruto points this out about Hinata (Boruto Episodes 1, 10, 18, and 66) (I admit, I haven't kept up with the anime since the pandemic started, so I'm not sure if there have been other instances, both anime and manga).
TL;DR — Naruto did, in fact, listen to Kushina after all and married a girl like her: Hinata. Hinata has the quiet and nice personality from Minato, and, well, everything else from Kushina.
The end. 🤗

Secret Is Out!
....
On a evening night where a few people were gathering around the table at the Uzumaki’s appartement after supper.
...
Hinata(About to explode here towards her cousin.): Seriously, Neji-niisan! What were you thinking?
Neji(Defends himself with no shame.): What was I thinking? Nothing but fun!
Naruto(Annoyedly groans over that.): Since when you’ve figured out what fun, actually means?
Neji just glared at him.
Hinata(Whines a bit here, tiredly as she held up her temple as if she was in pain.): Nii-san..
Neji(Sighs out, tired as the secret would might as well go out.): Okay, I admit it. I got caried away for a bit--
Naruto(Cut him off with a slap onto the table here that had kinda awakened everyone, here.): A bit? My ass.. Ain’t gotten any sleep after Boruto was born!
Sasuke(Annoyed as his friend rival looked like here, almost deprived of sleep here as well.): And your ass was up all over the air, for nothing? You and Tenten were having fun, for no reason?( That earn him another glare from Neji along with Tenten who was ready throw some knives, here.)
Tenten(Angrily as she was ready to sit up..): Why you--
Neji: Calm down,Tenten!( Then turns back over them three, as he held Tenten’s hand.) You want the full story? Right. Let’s just say that life is short and I kinda don’t wanna waste it any more of it, alone. Now, you know why I’ve moved with Tenten.
Sasuke(Still annoyed.): To save a few bills?
Tenten: In a way..(Waved back, annoyedly.)
Hinata: Alright?(Takes a sip from her tea cup, here when Neji gulped up, looking uncomfortable.)
Neji: Let’s just say I’m not kinda innocent anymore if you know what I mean. Man, when it gotten all hot, all of sudden, here? I feel like sweating here, all of sudden, now. He held himself from waving himself for air.
Naruto: Okay? And without marriage? I’ve thought Hyuugas were more traditional than that.Neji as much.
But then, sex?
Neji(Ignored him trying to regain his seriousness position..): Well, after my match with Lady Hinata, here. Let’s just say that I didn’t quite had a good sleep after that.. I kinda went into a dark place at fourteen...
Naruto(Wrinkled his nose with disgust. When the subject about the chunning exam had been brought up to his mind.): Wouldn’t be surprised of that fact. The way he did hurted Hinata, Stills haunts me today.
Hinata: Naruto--
Neji(Waves up at her when Naruto folded up his arms against his chest.): Nah, let him bashit me. I deserve it. Back to the story; I kinda went to a dark place after a few people from the first branch family was having you know what...
The four of them were silently, bafleed and stunned. Well, except for Tenten.
Naruto: You mean?
Neji(Clears up his throat here.): They were screwing up right next to my room and since the walls were thin, I’ve could heard them, doing it over and over, again..
Hinata(Almost yelped up, with surprise as her eyes wided up into shock..): Ahh..
Sasuke(Already disgusted but still, he wanted to know.,): What happened, later on?
Neji(Shrugs back his shoulders and folded his arms against his chest, frowning here at them.): What do you think? I’ve decided to camp outside and later started to train for the chunnin exams. I had nightmares for weeks!
Naruto(Yelled up back at his brother in law, louder, than he expected as he rose up from his chair.): And to overcome that fear you’ve started to do the exact same thing with Tenten and to scare my balls off?
Tenten(Shrugs back her shoulders innocentely and then, looks back at her boyfriend, with a smirk.): It kinda worked, no?
Neji(Looks back at her with the same smirk, as he put his arm around her shoulder, which it did left the thre other people into shock.): It sure did!

Note
If,in the Chunin Exams, you could see a fanon fight which one would u pick?(Sasuke vs Neji,Naruto vs Gaara,Kiba vs TenTen etc.)
I would have really liked to see Sasuke vs Neji! They're both so serious and tragic with similar roles in their team, definitely had a major opportunity to become rivals.
Shikamaru vs Gaara (taking out the fact that shikamaru would immediately forfeit which is the smart thing) or Shino vs Gaara I think would be cool OR Ino vs Gaara bc Gaara stays in one place a lot and lets his sand do all the work which would give her a good opportunity to do the mind transfer if she manages to dodge his sand (after which he definitely would have killed her bc Shukaku but yeah)
I would also match up Tenten vs Hinata bc they both have a connection thru Neji. I think it would be a nice match up bc Tenten has experience against a Hyuga (who is stronger than Hinata so 1010 would actually have a chance) and Hinata would have to work on getting closer to Tenten to do any damage which would be hard. It could go either way I think.
Another one which I thought about alot would be Rock Lee vs Sakura ***IF Sakura was actually trained in genjutsu bc she's a GENJUTSU TYPE LIKE WHAT KAKASHI SAID. Why did the writers say that and not let Sakura actually utilize genjutsu outside of just being talented at dispersing it.
Anyways, yes if Sakura attained a profiency in genjutsu I think it would be a really interesting fight because it would be a taijutsu vs genjutsu kinda fight.
Obviously, Lee wouldn't go all out but I don't think he would draw out the fight just bc he likes Sakura (I think he would consider it disrespectful) so he would try to end the match swiftly but respectfully? Since genjutsu is less flashy to others I think it would be less known if someone was proficient in it, so Sakura has some wiggle room to trap him in a genjutsu which he would fall prey to.
I think it would be a really sad fight for Lee if he were to lose to a genjutsu user who he would have beat hands down in taijutsu, because thats something he can't control and would have to rely on a teammate (like Neji) to dispel it for him. This fight would also motivate Sakura more to work on her taijutsu bc Lee would totally wipe the floor with her if he didn't give her a little leeway (ha) bc they're friends and she wasn't proficient in genjutsu.
Anyways, w/out any genjutsu ability Lee would win immediately and Sakura would be motivated either way. But I would like this fight anyways bc they're friends and it would be emotional.
Other matches I would like to see but don't feel like explaining are: Naruto vs Temari, Shino vs Hinata, Choji vs Sakura, Sasuke vs Shikamaru, Kankuro vs Neji, and Kiba vs Ino
