One night, in Gerudo Town, three Noble Pursuits deep, Zelda laments that she's starting to forget the faces of the Champions.
"It's silly," she slurs with a smile. "There's a picture of them on your wall, but it's only one moment. I'm starting to forget the rest of the expressions that shot fails to capture. I can't even remember what Daruk calling you 'little guy' sounds like, or Urbosa's laugh. Does that make me a bad friend?"
Link...isn't sure how to answer that. After all, he too struggles with remembering the intricacies of their dead friends.
"I don't think so," he finally answers. He's only had two of the cocktails but his mind is still a little foggy. "I heard somewhere that the first things you start to forget about the dead are voices and faces."
"Hm," Zelda takes another swig from her glass, wetting her fingertip with the condensation and dragging it over the salted rim. A quiet, persistent ring echoes throughout the bar. "Funny thing, isn't it, that those are the first things you started to remember."
"The first thing I heard was your voice. That makes sense, I think."
"Yeah," she smiles again, but it doesn't reach her eyes. She holds up another finger to order her fourth drink. "One more round and then bed?"
He nods. They're going to have the worst headaches in the morning.
--
Before he goes to sleep, he remembers what Zelda said and blearily thinks, I wish I had more pictures of everyone. It would help me remember them, too.
--
Two weeks later, back in Hateno, Link is sitting at the table clicking through the Sheikah Slate, searching for his climbing gear to wash it. Zelda is out in the garden, tending to her safflinas.
Frustrated with his inability to find the clothes he's looking for in the infinite inventory, he flips to the photo album for a break. He should see how those photos Zelda took of those baby foxes came out, should see if Purah can somehow print them out for her. He flips to the last page of the album and-
He didn't take those photos.
There are sixteen--sixteen--new photos in the album all of--all of the Champions? Urbosa, her head thrown back in a cackle and lightning sparking on her fingertips. Daruk, hoisting Boulder Breaker over his shoulder and grinning as his Protection blooms to life. Revali, preening, puffing his chest as his Gale swirls before the camera. Mipha, her palms glowing as she holds a baby Sidon's face in her hands, her trident strapped to her back and a fond smile on her face.
In all of them, at the corner of every image, is a small, white, egg-looking Guardian with a twinkling blue eye, a spidery leg pointing in the direction of each Champion like its telling whoever is holding the slate to snap the picture.
"Zelda!"

Chapter One: Lost Hope (Part 1 of Prologue)
The first chapter to the Sooga fic I've been mentioning for a while now! This is my first OC x Character fic I've ever done, so it's a bit different from my normal stuff. Full synopsis and other info is on my masterlist! I hope anyone who reads it enjoys!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Why had things turned out this way? Nobody deserved a fate such as this, being murdered for a crime they weren’t even aware of committing. It was a thought that had entered the young girl’s mind, though briefly, as she was more preoccupied with thoughts of survival; the need to run to safety, wherever it may be. Though now, the girl wasn’t so sure, as her home had just been invaded. And the people of her village seemingly did nothing to stop it.
Her parents had been murdered right before her eyes. Hylian knights, in their silver armor with the royal emblem engraved into them, had forced their way into the home, shouting and terrifying the girl. Her mother had told her to run, though not where to. The last words she had spoken before being shoved to the floor and killed were “Run, Rose! You must survive, my dear!”
Rose began to run away at that moment, exactly as her mother told her to. Out the back door of the small home, out into the cold, snowy terrain. She was hardly dressed for such weather, but that was the least of her concerns as she forced her feet to continue moving. Her home was on the outskirts of Tabantha village, but certainly not out of sight from the other homes. So why had the others done nothing to help?
Nevertheless, she ran toward the other homes, making her way to one cottage in particular.
Fist banging against the door, Rose desperately tried to get the attention of the sleeping residents. It took one moment of standing out on the ice covered porch, but one owner of the home did answer. An old lady- one of her village’s elders. She didn’t have any technical authority, but she was somebody that everybody could look up to; especially the children.
The woman gasped, shocked to see the crying child at her doorstep, especially at an hour so late into the evening. “Rose, what has happened? Why are you here so late?”
Through one choked sob, the girl inhaled deeply, before gasping out:
“They killed my parents.”
Rose had spent the rest of that night in the elder’s home, hidden away out of fear that the royal Hylian soldiers would come searching for her as well.
The old woman had warmed the girl up, giving Rose blankets to snuggle up in and some snacks for her to eat as she stayed in the back room of the cottage, nearby a wardrobe that she could jump into should any more knights show up. The woman’s husband kept watch throughout the early morning hours. Rose waited anxiously, too frightened of possibly being found to even process what had just happened to her hours earlier. Every moment, she sat frozen with terror; the fear of hearing the old man’s signal for her to hide clouding her mind.
But it never came.
At dawn, the Hylian knights finally left Tabantha village, deciding that the wanted child must have escaped elsewhere. Half of the soldiers went north, to search for her around Snowfield Stable. The others apparently went toward Rito Village, from what the old man had overheard. He’d also heard the captain mention the words “that’s if she even survives in this cold”.
When daylight finally arrived, Rose came out of her hiding spot. The girl was given some time to decompress, before the two elders sat her down to have a talk. She listened, though with every word she heard, the feeling of dread only rose within her. The elders explained that her family was wanted by the Hylian royal family, and that she must leave Tabantha if she desired to live on. They instructed her to make her way over to the Rayne Highlands, where her aunt lived; someone who supposedly had answers as to why her parents were hunted down and murdered.
After being given some food, clothing and a horse to take on her journey, the elders wished Rose farewell, watching as the frame of her and the horse grew smaller and smaller, soon disappearing on the horizon.
The trip was just over three hours long.
Rose could see the ancient column ruins peeking out from over the hills, and it was then she knew that she’d finally made it. Though she couldn’t shake the sense of dread that flooded her veins.
Trying to ignore the unwelcome feeling, the young girl continued on, guiding her horse over to the side of the road. Supposedly, her aunt lived in a small cottage near some trees in the Rayne Highlands. But, Rose didn’t see a single tree in the surrounding area. Was this really the right place?
The elders had mentioned craters being nearby her aunt’s cottage as well; how they’d be on the right of the road should she be on the right track. So, Rose craned her neck to look over on her right side. Sure enough, it seemed there was a gap in the hills, as well as a dip into lower grounds. That must’ve been it, then.
The brunette veered her horse off to the side of the road, having the creature slow down to a stop so that she could hop off of it and make her way over to find the trees. The road over there was much too uneven and rocky to bring a horse onto, so the girl figured leaving her horse behind would be best.
With her left hand, Rose stroked the horse’s mane gently, calmly telling it to stay before walking off in the correct direction.
She spotted a tree, and a smile, the first one she’d produced in many hours, formed upon her face. She’d done it. Rose had found her aunt’s home, and would soon be able to get the answers she needed so desperately. She broke out into a sprint, beelining for the trees as quickly as possible.
Though the quicker she ran, the faster the smell of smoke filled her lungs.
Why did it smell so strongly of a fire? Perhaps her aunt had one going outside? It was fairly cold, after all. Rose clung onto that idea as she kept running, eyes searching for any sign of smoke or a cottage.
She rounded the end of the hill, turning to the other end of it which faced the edges of Hyrule. And as she did so, the feeling of dread suddenly made sense.
A fire, a big one at that, is what met her eyes. Black smoke clouded the air, seemingly exploding out of the burning cottage. Rose’s eyes grew wide at the sight, her stomach sinking as all hope she’d had was stripped from her. Just when she thought things couldn’t get any worse, everything got so, so much worse.
Collapsing to the ground, the girl began to scream, clawing at her hair as mixed emotions flooded her. Despair and anger raged through her, overtaking her as she was forced to accept it: all of her family was dead. She was the only one left.
Rose was alone. All alone, with nobody left to care for her, at thirteen years old. Such a young age, her entire life ahead of her, yet now it felt as though all of that was taken from her.
And it was all the royal family’s fault.
Hours and hours went by before the fire finally put itself out. Though, the rain that had washed in did help some. Rose, who was now approaching what remained of the cottage, had passed out underneath a tree, her small body too overcome with grief and frustration. The horse she’d brought was long gone, having run away as soon as the rain started. So truly, she was completely alone now.
There wasn’t much left of the home. The foundation, chimney, and some structural pieces survived, though barely. Carefully, Rose stepped into the ash, eyes scanning the ground around her, searching for anything that had made it through the fire. There was nothing to her right, unless smashed glass and the ashes of wood and household objects counted. Looking to her left, Rose looked around what she assumed was the kitchen area. Some more broken glass, pots and pans were scattered on the brick cooking area. Nothing of use.
Next, Rose looked around what used to be her aunt’s bed, cautiously prodding around to see if there was anything she could salvage. Not finding anything, she was about to give up and leave the burned cottage, but then a glimmer underneath the broken bed caught her eye. Bending downward, Rose reached for it, fingers meeting something cool. A blade of some sort. Carefully, she picked it up, finding that there was a leather-bound notebook with a dagger tied against it. The notebook would probably be useless, but the dagger would at least be some form of protection.
Pulling the dagger out from the journal’s bindings, the brunette girl examined it, unsure of whether or not it was of good quality. She’d never really used any weapons before, since her parents had always said she was too young. So, she decided it was good enough for her, and tucked it back into the notebook, leaving the ashes of her aunt’s home.
Rose beelined for the trees she’d slept under before, figuring all she could do for now was rest some more and read the journal that survived the fire. Sitting underneath the same one she’d slept against earlier, she opened up the notebook and was surprised to see a few purple rupees fall out from between the pages. She gathered them before sliding them into her pocket, and then continued to look through the pages. The notebook itself seemed to have no purpose; there was no structure whatsoever as to what was written in it. The first page was a recipe, the next was a list of medical herbs, and after that was a short diary entry. It wasn’t very detailed at all, and all it consisted of was how her aunt had traveled to Tabantha Bridge stable that day. The next five or so pages were similar to the first three, until finally something of interest caught Rose’s eye.
‘Yesterday, my brother and his wife moved to Tabantha Village. They stopped by for dinner and to rest. I figured they would need the help so I decided to join them on the last half of their journey. The house they moved into is decent enough, keeps the cold out. I’m sure it’s a drastic difference compared to their old situation. It certainly was for me.
They told me something, too. Apparently they’re expecting a child. It’s their main reason for why they left to live in Tabantha. I wish them luck.’
The brunette’s eyes widened in interest. So her entire family had come to live on the western side of Hyrule, then. Turning the page, she continued to read through the next few entries, until another one that mentioned her popped up.
‘I visited Rose for the first time since she was born today. She’s a lovely little thing. Incredibly smart for a toddler, too. It seems she’s already showing signs of being able to use the ancient arts. She would’ve been the perfect little warrior had they not left.
Aside from that, she’s normal for a kid her age. She enjoys playing with the animals around the village and colors a lot. I can’t wait to see how she turns out.’
She skimmed through the next dozen entries, none of which contained any further information about her parents or herself. But finally, she turned to the last entry in the diary. It was short, and her aunt’s handwriting seemed more frantic. As the girl read through it, alarm bells went off within her head.
‘The royals have found us out. They’re supposedly heading for Tabantha Village and my cottage at this very moment. I just hope they don’t harm Rose, should they not escape. She had no part in the-’
The journal cut off there. After feeling nothing but numbness for hours, the emotions began flowing through Rose all over again. Tears running down her pale cheeks, she shut the notebook and hugged it tightly, sniffling as she trembled. So the royals killed her family off for what, existing? She still couldn’t fully understand it, though. It wasn’t as though they were the only ones to exist within Hyrule, so why her family?
Letting out a choked sob, Rose squeezed her eyes shut, wishing this was all a horrific dream. How could she go on?
“Come, little one.”
Head shooting up, Rose looked around with wide eyes. Had somebody found her? The main road wasn’t visible from where she was sitting, so there was no way a traveler had spotted her from there.
Scanning the surrounding area, Rose found nothing. But the voice beckoned to her again.
“Follow my voice, young one.”
Standing up, Rose took small steps forward, fear coursing through her veins. What if it was a trap?  Although, did she really care anymore? Her parents and aunt were gone, she had nobody left. So why continue onward, really?
Creeping forward, she went in the direction the voice had seemingly come from. A faint pink glow was coming from the main road, and as Rose got closer to it, she realized it was a fairy.
“The fairy will lead you to me, my child.”
Surely, no Hylian soldiers could use a fairy to lure her. deciding it was safe, she increased the speed of which she walked, now breaking into a light jog as she followed behind the fairy. It led her down the road and around the side of it, into a nearly hidden path between the massive rocks of the hills.
Out of breath now, she finally reached the top, finding a sort of… pond, in front of her? It was a peculiar sight; flowers and all sorts of growth surrounding the water, almost like something she’d seen in a fairytale book. In the center of the shallow waters, there was a huge flower bud, seemingly shut. As her feet reached the pond, the ground rumbled. Panicking, Rose was about to run away when the flower bud burst open, and out came an incredibly large woman.
“My child, why are you all alone?”
Startled, but less scared now, Rose stared up at the woman, unsure of what to do. Suddenly, it clicked within her head. Though it was something she’d assumed to be a rumor, here it was before her eyes...
A Great Fairy.
“My… my parents were killed,” she answered, voice slightly choked up. “I came from Tabantha Village and… they killed my aunt too…”
“Oh, you poor thing,” the fairy cooed, reaching out to carefully stroke Rose’s hair with a single finger. “My child, you have nowhere to go, do you?”
Shaking her head, Rose confirmed the fairy’s thoughts.
“Just as I thought. Well, you’re in luck, little flower,” the pink-haired fairy gave her a small smile. “You can stay here, and I shall speak with my sisters on what we can do to aid you.”
“R-really?” Rose stuttered, completely shocked. The Great Fairies were going to help her?
“Of course. The rocks should keep you protected from any weather, there’s edible plants growing here, and my fountain should provide enough warmth for you.”
“Thank you,” Rose looked downward, suddenly feeling as though she were going to cry again.
“Oh! Don’t cry, my dear. I’ll make sure you’re taken care of. And, why don’t you tell me your name, hm?”
“It’s… Rose,” she managed to say, failing to fight the tears that began slipping through.
“Rose. What a perfect name for such a pretty girl. I am Kaysa, one of the four Great Fairies in Hyrule.”
After spending a few days near Kaysa’s fountain, the fairy finally broke the news to Rose that she and her sisters had come up with a plan for her.
It was about noon, and Rose was currently sitting against one of the sides of the hill that hid Kaysa’s fountain. She’d had one of the many carrots that grew around the fountain as a snack a few moments prior, and was now basking in the sunlight, watching the small fairies that floated around the fountain.
The ground rumbled, and Kaysa burst from the giant flower bud, beaming at Rose.
“Little flower, I bring good news!”
Standing up eagerly, Rose got closer to the fountain to hear what Kaysa had to say.
“My sisters and I have come up with a wonderful plan! Do you know where Satori Mountain is, my child?”
Rose nodded, having a vague idea on how to get to said mountain. It was visible from the top of the hills in the Tabantha region, and some nights there would be an odd glowing emanating from the top of the mountain.
“Wonderful. We’ve arranged for you to live on the southern end of it. A cottage to live in right near a pond that provides plenty of resources for you!”
“A… cottage?” Rose stammered, wondering how they could’ve possibly gotten one built so quickly, or just… how they could even build one in the first place. From what she could tell, the fairies couldn’t leave their fountains. This made no sense.
“Indeed. Through magic, my dear,” Kaysa added, sensing Rose’s confusion.
“Oh…” that didn’t explain much, but nevertheless, Rose smiled, feeling hopeful once again.
“All that we ask for is rupees,” Kaysa then explained, nonchalantly. Rose frowned in response. She didn’t have any rupees, aside from the couple hundred her aunt had left in the journal. Rose highly doubted that would be enough to repay the Great Fairies.
“I… don’t have much to give you,” Rose mumbled, disappointedly.
“Oh, don’t worry, little flower!” Kaysa stroked the girl’s long, brunette hair with a single finger, “you can repay us over time.”
Nodding, Rose agreed to that condition. “Okay…”
“And one last thing,” Kaysa announced, “when you’re of age, my sisters and I will have you begin your training.”
“Training…?” Rose echoed, unsure of how they’d be able to do so from within the flower buds.
“We came to the agreement that when you turn fifteen, the four of us shall mentor you to become… The Great Fairies’ Warrior.”

Just getting this idea out there so that maybe I'll actually finish writing it one day, but -
I've been on a Legend of Zelda kick recently. Currently replaying BOTW. Never played AOC but I've watched gameplay and all the cutscenes so I know what happens. Planning to play that and TOTK again soon. But I've got this idea cooking in my head.
Theres a post that talks about "what if you could find the Divine Beasts in the Depths", and another funny post that was just "what if Teba was the sage of Wind and not Tulin?" And I remembered when BOTW had just come out, and then AOC after, and people were speculating about the characters, like Teba, being the New Champions and getting to bond to the Divine Beasts.
That didn't happen in canon, but. Hear me out. What if even just one of the Divine Beasts bonded with a New Champion... like say, the one who doesn't become a Sage?
Teba, Sidon, Riju, and Yunobo return from their adventure in the past/alternate timeline/whatever, having saved those Champions and that Hyrule from destruction. Their own timeline is still the same, but they continue on as they do in canon.
Except they all meet up shortly after returning home, and one of them (Sidon or Riju maybe) asks "hey did anyone else try going to the Divine Beasts only to get rejected" and while the rest are like "yup wonder what that's about, sad" Teba is like "no wtf are you all talking about I was settling back in with my wife and kid."
But something about it sticks with Teba. He goes home, looks up at Vah Medoh, and thinks, 'it probably won't work but I may as well try just to confirm.'
...Vah Medoh accepts him as its new pilot.
I'm unsure as to whether or not Revali's spirit will still be there for a quick hello - but if he is, he'd be like "whomst?!" And Teba would be like "if you were still alive I'd definitely adopt you because thanks to some time travel shenanigans i know that you desperately needed a parental figure in your life".
Mostly everything else proceeds as is canon up to the start of TOTK - except for the other Divine Beasts continuing to chill at their resting places, because upon hearing about Teba successfully bonding with Medoh, the others want to keep trying.
But, for whatever reason, Hylia decided that you cannot be both a Sage and a Divine Beast pilot, so the Beasts acknowledge them but never quite accept them as their pilots.
Then, TOTK. Then the chasms. Then, the other 3 Divine Beasts taking a plunge into the Depths.
Teba freaks out a little bit, but Medoh is circling Rito Village and is fine, except now there's these random floating islands but also a fuckass blizzard that's making it almost impossible to keep everyone fed, and Teba's just been saddled with Elder status so he's super in charge and Tulin is in a bit of a "I can do anything let me prove it let's go" phase and is trying to convince Teba to use Vah Medoh to fly up and stop the blizzard, but Teba is way too busy trying to keep the village from falling apart to go right now -
Then Link shows up, and Tulin runs off, and Link follows him, and the two go up and find the Stormwind Ark and fight Colgera and as the magical blizzard finally ends, Teba is just like "what the fuck".
Tulin tells him he's become a Sage, and isn't that cool dad?! And Teba is like "you're 12 and you're going to help fight a demon king?!?! Wtf?!"
But then at some point, Tulin (who knows the other Sages from that time he was in AOC, and meeting them a few times with his dad after) one day looks up from his breakfast and says "oh hey Sidon just became the Sage of Water! I saw it through my connection with Link!" And that's when it clicks into place for Teba why the Beasts never quite accepted the other "New Champions" - because they were destined for something else.
But Vah Medoh is still here. And it's pissed that it's fellow Beasts are gone and it also wants to blast Ganondorf in the face.
Unfortunately, Teba can't let it blast the castle when Link and co go to confront the Zelda illusion, because Tulin is there, Link is there, Sidon and Riju and Yunobo are there, and it's not the real demon king yet anyway.
Teba is grumpy about it, about letting Tulin go off and risk his life when he's a child and Teba is an adult, but then a huge dark dragon explodes out from the chasm below the castle and Vah Medoh is all too happy to fire upon it, knowing it's Ganondorf and wanting some sweet revenge of its own.
Teba's just surprised he can see the dark dragon, it's huge but he'd heard tales of only the young, or those chosen by thr goddesses, could see dragons. Maybe it's because of Vah Medoh that he can see this one, and the little light dragon that comes in and - hey is that Link?!
Maybe it ends with Teba going down to the Depths with Link to visit the other Divine Beasts, and suggesting that the locations stay known so that future generations may try to awaken them. They don't really need the Beasts anymore since both Calamity Ganon and Ganondorf have been defeated, but Medoh doesn't want to turn off and is happy just chilling at Rito Village with Teba. The end.
I have like 2.5k of this already written, I just wanted to use this post to write more of the ideas for the fic structure before I go to bed lol. And this idea probably doesn't make a hell of a lot of sense canon-wise, but it doesn't need to because the only reason this exists is because i love Teba and wish he'd gotten more screntime (or at least some spoken dialogue in the cutscenes!) in TOTK.

Hateno Boy - Part 1 - Link x Reader
The Calamity is gone, but so is Link’s purpose. He feels completely lost in post-Calamity Hyrule where everyone but him seem to have found their new place.
It certainly doesn’t help his restless nights that you, a young Hylian whom Zelda has hired as the new teacher at Hateno School, are slowly taking up more and more of his headspace with each conversation you two have.
Fandom: The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild / Tears of the Kingdom Pairing: Link x fem!Reader Raiting: Mature (might go up, might go down, let's see) Contains: feel-good, slow burn romance; platonic Link/Zelda; Link being an angsty retired hero Chapter Index | Read on Ao3 A/N: Very excited to write something possibly disgustingly cute. The story takes place after the events in BotW but before the beginning of TotK. All characters are adults! I hope you enjoy the story! xx

Chapter 1 - Purpose
Contains: Link being an angsty retired hero; Zelda being embarrassed by Link's inability to talk to girls (or other human beings in general) Word count: ~1,3k A/N: Please look past any weird sentences, English isn't my first language :p
A breath of warm air blows from the sea, gentle on skin and smelling of sea salt. The wind hurries over the hills of Necluda, tall grass bowing before it like waves on an emerald green ocean. Once it reaches Link sitting on top of the hills, it gently tugs on his hair and pushes his hood down.
He has been sitting there for quite some time now – so long that the tips of his ears are starting to redden from the wind, as gentle as it is. The sun that was high up when he arrived at the hills, is now hanging low over the horizon. It is soon time for him to go; Zelda asked him in the morning to stop by the school before sundown.
He is alone, as he is on most days nowadays. There isn’t much for him to do: Zelda is busy rebuilding Hateno, the recently finished village school her new pride and joy. And when she isn’t mingling with the villagers, she’s kept busy with her research at the Tech Lab. She doesn’t require an escort anymore, not after Purah hired a young researcher to assist them decipher ancient Zonai texts anyway. The man rarely leaves Zelda’s side when the two of them are together – which is often. Very often.
Link was jealous at first. After all, he is the Princess’ appointed knight, and he is the one who wields the Master Sword, and he is the one who saved Zelda’s life – not some overly excited, self-proclaimed explorer with a stupidly tall frame and an apparent distaste for wearing upper garments that hide his muscles.
Eventually, his jealousy morphed into loneliness – something he did a terrible job of hiding from Zelda. She asked him if he wanted to return to Hyrule Castle to help the Royal Guard in training new soldiers. Link said no, that he likes it here in Hateno.
“I wouldn’t mind if you go,” Zelda said, gently placing her hand on top of his, “I can see how lost you are here.”
Somehow, Zelda seeing straight through his lies and offering him kindness hurt more than her asking Link to leave in the first place. After that, Link couldn’t help but feel even more uncertain and disconnected. Everyone had seemingly moved on, everyone but him. While he still remains close with Zelda, honoring his duty, accompanying her whenever she travels outside of Hateno, even living with her, he knows deep down that she doesn’t need him anymore. The Calamity is gone, and so is his purpose.
Tumblr media
The sun hangs low when Link arrives at Hateno School. The sky is flaring in shades of red, reminding Link of a cozy fire under a cooking pot – somewhere he would much prefer to be. The school’s front doors are open, but the playground is silent and the windows are dark, all except one. It has been a while since Link last visited the school. The children adore him, which is exactly why he prefers to stay away. Their looks of admiration and curious questions make him uneasy. Ever since moving to Hateno, all he has wanted is to lay low, going as far as to hide his head-turning Champion’s tunic in the bottom of his drawer. He wanted to throw the tunic away, but Zelda wouldn’t let him.
He can already hear Zelda’s excited chattering when he reaches the open doors and quietly steps inside. Zelda is having an eager conversation with a young Hylian woman – you – whom Link doesn’t remember seeing before. He does remember Zelda telling him about a new teacher she hired a few months back, and he figures it must be you.
You notice Link arriving before Zelda does and give him a polite smile in greeting. Only when he lightly taps on Zelda’s shoulder does she stop talking and turn around.
“Oh, Link,” she smiles. “You have impeccable timing. We were just talking about you!”
Link furrows his brow. Great, just great, he thinks, already feeling the tips of his ears growing warmer.
“Only good things,” you assure with an awkward laugh. “The Princess told me you made the apple pie she brought the other day.”
Link hopes that the dim light of the oil lamps is enough to hide his red ears. He clears his throat, though not even intending to say anything.
“I don’t think you two have met before, have you?” Zelda says, giving Link an encouraging nudge.
Even after all the years spent in royal banquets practicing formal pleasantries with Hyrule’s nobility, Link still feels awkward having to introduce himself. Nonetheless, he extends his hand for a greeting. When you offer him yours, he brings it to his lips and gives your knuckles a polite kiss. Your skin feels soft and pleasant, he thinks, now horribly self-aware of just how sweaty his own palm is.
When he looks back at you, even he can pick up the awkward tension in your smile and words as you introduce yourself. He feels his whole face heat up, not really understanding what he did wrong but knowing he must have, because even Zelda has the same tension in her smile as you do.
“He is very accustomed to his formal greetings from his days at the Castle,” Zelda says with a forced smile and gives Link a look. Only then does he realize that a hand kiss, though adequate in greeting a noble woman, is not something you, a village school teacher, was expecting from a Royal Knight. He would apologize, but his mouth is dry and no words come out.
“And, well, you probably already know of Link,” Zelda breaks the uncomfortable silence after it becomes clear Link isn’t going to introduce himself.
“The Hero of Hyrule,” you say, knowingly. “We have actually met before.”
We have? Link thinks, the heat of embarrassment getting unbearable. All he wants to do is run home and hide under his bed covers for the rest of eternity. This is why he rarely leaves their home or willingly socializes with the villagers. He would cringe if he wasn’t too embarrassed to move his face muscles.
“You have?” asks Zelda out loud, her disapproving eyes boring into Link’s.
“It was years ago,” you are quick to add. “He took refuge in our family home once. I wouldn’t blame him for not remembering.”
Zelda doesn’t appear quite as understanding when she shoots another scolding look at Link, the pink in her own cheeks deepening as well. “Please,” she says as she turns back to you, “accept my apology. Link can be awfully forgetful sometimes.” She gives him a final glare that, at last, makes him drop his head. He’s not sure if dying of embarrassment is a real occurrence, but if it is, then he must be very close to leaving Hyrule for good.
“It’s quite alright, Your Highness,” you say with a slightly uneasy laugh that fails to fully mask your discomfort. “I don’t mind it, really. Like I said, it was years ago.”
There is an uncomfortable silence between the three of you. Then Zelda claps her hands, and the tension breaks like a taut rubber band. Link sighs, relieved.
“Well,” Zelda says, “now that we are done with introductions, perhaps we can show Link the curriculum we’ve been working on? I’m sure he can give us his opinion on the section about monster parts and their usage in elixirs.”
When you turn to look for something from your writing table’s drawers, Link grabs Zelda’s sleeve and gives her a pleading look. Zelda narrows her eyes and shakes her head.
“Do not even think of fleeing” she hisses in his ear before she hurries over to you to help you with a pile of scrolls close to toppling over. Link lets out a silent grunt and looks longingly at the open doors. The sun has gone down, the sky now the same shade as embers cooling down under a cooking pot – somewhere he would much prefer to be.

Reading other people's LU fics is so weird sometimes. Like I operate w/ a very concrete idea of what all their ages are, so seeing the dude I headcanon as 22 be 16 in a fic is jarring haha
It's not a bad thing, but it's kinda funny.
That's kinda what I like abt LU tho. The only Link's age we know is Wind. Everyone one else is an unknown. We know Twi was 18 during TP, but we don't know how long it's been so he's also an unknown. It lets us imagine what we believe to be appropriate. I hope we never get their current ages
Edit: turns out I deadass forgot abt Wild who says he's 117. but he got memory issues so is he really lol

3 sentence fic request: Link and Zelda drinking tea together
Though Link and Zelda had many things in common, the one thing they did not compare in was their ability to fall asleep.
Each exhausted in their own right, Zelda struggled the most as her brain never seemed to quiet: prayers, studying, reports, she'd run through them word-for-word in her mind as she tossed and turned under her blankets; Link, on the other hand, loved to sleep and was usually snoring in five minutes.
When the knight discovered his princess's sleeping troubles, he consulted with Impa what the best remedy was: tea, brewed with the finest leaves of a blue nightshade, so now each night Link sat on the edge of Zelda's bed as she lay against her pillows, each sipping their own cup of tea and falling asleep together.

Chapter Four: The Choice
Synopsis/other info is available on my masterlist. (Including art of Rose's outfits!)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Five days had gone by since Rose had been ambushed in the woods near Satori Mountain.
In that time, nothing else had really happened. For the first few days, she’d been left completely alone. No signs of anyone watching her, nobody coming to ask her to join their clan, and certainly no attacks. But after five days of silence, there was a change.
She was out by Rutile Lake, not even fifty feet away from her cottage, collecting different kinds of herbs. After being injured by the mysterious Sooga’s dual swords, she’d realized that the few medicinal herbs she kept on hand would not be enough. So, she headed out to collect a few, needing more than she’d originally anticipated. Finding a good patch of medicinal herbs, Rose crouched down to collect them.
Deciding that some regular Hyrule herbs and a couple warm safflina was enough, she tucked them into her pouch and stood back up, ready to head back into her cottage to make herself a healing tea. But as she began to walk, a gut feeling presented itself to her. She wasn’t alone.
Pausing to focus on everything surrounding her, she then noticed it. A second energy was nearby; she could sense them, feel it, even.
Before she could even physically see them, Rose had a feeling that without needing to recognize the energy or even look at the person, she knew who was watching her. Thinking things over, she decided it would be best to approach him now. It would be risky without her katana, but she did have her powers if things went bad. Taking in a deep breath, Rose turned around, took a few steps towards the energy’s location, and she was able to quickly catch sight of the red figure hiding between some trees.
Suddenly, all the courage she’d worked up had disappeared. It was left with fear now, leaving Rose frozen in place as her eyes met the inverted Sheikah eye on Sooga’s mask.
“So you can sense my energy,” he acknowledged, nodding toward her.
Biting her lip, Rose struggled with what to say, unsure of if the Yiga general would attack or not. “Yes… I can,” she mumbled, meekly. “Why are you here?”
“I’ve come to observe you,” Sooga replied, coolly. “And perhaps discuss my offer again.”
“I haven’t changed my mind, if that’s what you’re wondering,” Rose frowned. An awful heat crawled up her back, and she averted her eyes away from him. Why did the idea of him specifically watching her bother her so much?
“I assumed you hadn’t. But Rose… there’s something I need to know about you,” Sooga ominously said. “There’s something about yourself that you haven’t told anybody of.”
What? Did he mean…? “I don’t know what you’re talking about,” Rose lied.
“But you do,” Sooga began to approach her, coming out into the clearing, right up to where Rose stood. With him now so close, she shivered at the sight of him. He was so tall, and incredibly strong. He could take her down with the flick of his wrist, at any given moment. “I saw not only the way you transported yourself, but also how the inverted eye appeared when you used your powers. I know what you are, Rose…”
Staring up at him with her lips parted, Rose found that she didn’t know what to say. Deny it again? But he’d clearly figured it out already, and the last thing she wanted was to anger him. That would probably result in him attacking her again. But before either of them could speak, shouting filled the air.
“I saw him! He was up here, I swear!”
Gasping, Rose’s eyes widened in horror at the other voice being so close by. Somebody saw Sooga coming up here… and now they’ll know where I live-
Not expecting to be grabbed so suddenly, Rose gasped again as Sooga held her with one arm, transporting them both away, into a darker, much cooler place. Looking around, Rose realized he’d brought her into a cave; one of the ones within Satori Mountain.
“What are you- let go of me!” Rose hissed, trying to squirm her way out of Sooga’s arms.
“Be quiet,” he muttered, tightening his hold on her.
Feeling embarrassed, Rose couldn’t help the blush that had spread across her cheeks. She hated him, and yet, the way he held her tightly against his toned body… no! Stop with those thoughts now!
Faintly, the two could hear the voices up above them.
“That’s odd, there’s a cottage here. But… it looks abandoned,” a boyish voice said.
“Yeah, I highly doubt anyone would live up here anyway,” another older, more gruff voice came. “Are you sure you saw the Yiga’s leading general up here?”
“I swear, I did!” The younger male voice pleaded. “He must’ve teleported away… ugh. I’m sorry for rushing you over here for nothing.”
“You’d better be. You know we’re not supposed to leave our stations at the stable. And what you were doing wandering over here in the first place is beyond me…”
With every second that went by, the voices became fainter and fainter. The last thing Rose had made out was the younger male mentioning wanting to see a “mountain spirit”. Although they were completely gone by now, Sooga waited another moment before moving again. Rose made a slight wincing face at the whole ordeal, wanting to get away from Sooga’s grip on her as soon as possible. After one more awkward moment, Sooga then transported himself with Rose in tow back up to the pond, where he finally let go of her.
Stumbling away from him, Rose did everything in her power to fight the blush she knew was spreading across her face, but to no avail.
“Now. Back to where we were,” he grumbled, annoyance evident in his tone.
Forgetting her embarrassment and being reminded of their discussion, Rose bit down on her lip, feeling like her world was shattering as she came to terms with the fact that somebody else knew what she was. Bracing herself to tell the truth, she waited for Sooga to speak again.
“Rose. Based on what I saw, I can only assume that you are of-“
Before he could say another word, a footsoldier suddenly appeared a few feet away from Sooga.
“Lord Sooga! It’s- ahh! The w-warrior!” they shrieked, jumping behind Sooga, shakily looking out from beside him at Rose. So now the footsoliders were scared of her? Perhaps that was why she’d only seen regular blademasters for a while, at least until Sooga showed up.
“There better be a very good reason as to why you’re interrupting my work,” Sooga warned, crossing his arms as he faced the footsoldier.
“I-it’s… Master Kohga, uh, sir! He wants you b-back at the hideout, at once!”
Sighing, Sooga then turned back to look at Rose, sending shivers of fear back through her. “I’m afraid I will have to find answers another time…”
With that, he formed a hand sign and disappeared at once, along with the footsoldier, leaving Rose completely alone. But rather than worrying about the fact that they knew where she lived… another, much more terrifying thought occupied her mind.
Sooga knew of her secret.
With another week having gone by without any encounters with Sooga, Rose had a lot of time to think. Not to mention that she’d been unable to train due to the injury he’d given her. It had since healed, thanks to the herbs she’d collected, but the attack had left a fading mark across her abdomen. With all of her newly found free time, she chose to spend it relaxing while also reflecting.
She thought back to all the pain and agony she’d felt for the first year after her family’s death. Even with the Great Fairies comforting her, it had been hard to move on. How hopeless and alone she felt some days, and the times she’d burst into a rage, swearing to the night skies that she’d kill all the knights in Hyrule for what they took from her.
And she had yet to actually go through with it. The incident where she’d choked the knight had almost been a starting step, but killing him? She couldn’t fathom being able to take anyone’s life away. But she still wanted her revenge. Her heart was torn; the two sides fighting over what path would be the right one. Finding the exact knight who’d slit her mothers throat and killing him sounded thrilling, but what would she do after? Be a wanted criminal for the rest of her life? However, sitting up on this mountain, doing nothing to avenge her family seemed unbearable; almost as if she’d be dishonoring them by letting the Hylian knights get away with their crime.
As she thought more and more, searched deeper within herself every day, Rose finally found her answer while sitting by the lake late at night.
It started when she’d finished staring up into the star-lit sky, knowing she wouldn’t find an answer there. As her eyes gazed upon the quiet pond, she found herself repeatedly eyeing the spot where she had spoken to Sooga a week prior. Even after she’d rejected his offer and fought him, he still had tried to get her to join the Yiga Clan again.
What would it be like to join them? Were they always cold, cunning assassins, or did they have a more family-like environment, when in their hideout? She’d have no way to know, unless if… she found out for herself, of course. But, was that something she’d be able to do, join the clan who’s sworn enemies with the kingdom of Hyrule?
Wait…
She’d decided that the knights of Hyrule’s royal family were her enemies long ago. The Yiga Clan had that in common with her. Perhaps joining them was the answer to her dilemma. Was she willing to do it, though? Give up living on Satori Mountain, to go live somewhere unknown, with people who’d been trying to kidnap her, and become an assassin?
As she thought about it more, it was almost as if a sense of calm washed over her. As if she physically knew what her destiny would be. The desire to avenge her family outweighed all else, and joining the Yiga Clan would be the first step in the right direction.
Finally, for the first time in days, Rose was able to sleep peacefully, not plagued by the thoughts of being ambushed or not knowing what her heart wanted. Because now… she’d found hope.
The following day, Rose began scheming. She’d need a solid plan if she were to actually go through with joining the clan. So, she sat at her small kitchen table, thinking hard, determined to figure this out as soon as possible.
At this point, she couldn’t be sure that Sooga would return to offer anything to her again. She’d rejected it twice, and thus proved herself untrustworthy. So she needed a way to convince them that she could be a great asset to the clan. Of course, there was the fact they wanted her abilities on their side, but that more than likely wouldn’t be enough any longer. So what else could she offer? Twirling a finger through her dark brown locks and biting on her lip, she searched for the answer.
Her bounty hunting work had made her somewhat well known throughout Hyrule. If she were to act carefully and continue doing “good” work, she might be able to gain the trust of those close to the royals. If she were to successfully do so, she could possibly be the greatest spy the Yiga Clan has ever had.
Nodding to herself, Rose decided she’d use that and her powers as reasoning. With that out of the way, she needed to get to another task; learning how to transport herself.
When she’d done it for the first time, it was because she was in a panic, fearing for her life. So how could she recreate that dire need to get somewhere else?
Deciding to start small, she headed outside, staring at one of the apple trees that grew near her cottage, willing herself to be in that very spot. Closing her eyes, she tried continuously to force herself to transport there, but found that it simply was not happening.
Thinking back to the way Sooga had transported away when they’d last spoken, she recalled that he had used a hand sign. Trying to replicate that, she focused all of her energy on being next to the tree.
Furrowing her eyebrows, she internally yelled at herself, desperate for it to work. And still, nothing happened.
Opening her eyes with an annoyed sigh, she searched her mind for another method. Would scaring herself work, since that’s what started this in the first place? That just didn’t seem reliable, though. Pacing around between her cottage and the apple tree, Rose thought deeper.
Until an idea finally came to mind. Heading back to her cottage, she stood just a few feet away from the door, taking in a deep breath and clearing her mind. Breathing out, she closed her eyes, and focused on her energy. Imagining the tree in her head, she erased the image of everything around it from her mind, leaving only her and the tree. Forming the hand sign the Yiga members did, she imagined herself at the tree, focusing her energy on herself, rather than the apple tree.
With a puff of smoke and prayer tags exploding around her, Rose opened her eyes to find that she was now standing under the tree. I did it! I transported myself! Smiling widely, she willed herself to relax again so that she could now practice, using the method again and again until it was perfected.
Imagining her energy to be over near the pond, she closed her eyes, formed the hand signal, and focused her energy again. And with another puffing of smoke and tags, she gleefully found herself now at the pond.
Rose continued to practice this until nightfall, where she finally transported herself back into her cottage, feeling incredibly exhausted, but still proud. Now all that was left for her to do was find a way to the Yiga Clan’s hideout.
Standing at his master’s side, Sooga listened as Kohga went on and on about how they needed answers about the Great Fairies’ warrior, and how badly they needed her to join the clan.
“She’s just too good to let go, you know? I mean, imagine it… a magical fairy warrior on our side?! I’d have the best lackey ev…er, uh, second to you, of course…” Kohga shamefully scratched at his neck.
Ignoring the comment, Sooga shook his head. “Master Kohga I’ve told you already, she refused twice. What makes you think she’ll change her mind the third time?”
“I dunno, maybe she’ll say yes to make you leave her alone?”
Sighing, Sooga decided not to respond to that. “Regardless of if she joins or not, we need answers about her lineage. I am certain she’s of Yiga descent, but she won’t admit it. That, and, I don’t understand how she went unnoticed for so long.”
“Hmm,” Kohga crossed his arms, seemingly in deep thought. “Now that I think about it, I don’t recall any kids named ‘Rose’ ever being born around here. Are you sure she’s really one of us?”
Hesitating, Sooga had to admit that he really wasn’t sure. Other Hylians, like himself, had joined the clan and were able to master the ancient arts, but it almost seemed to come too natural to Rose. He had no doubt about her performing the transportation technique on accident, yet it took regular Hylians years to be able to perfect doing it like that. That and, if she’d never been in the clan in the first place, how was she able to produce the inverted eye symbol?
“I cannot say that I have no doubt about it,” Sooga began to reply, “however, it seemed as if the ancient arts were something instinctive to her. No regular Hylian would be able to do such things on a whim, especially without practice.”
“That’s true…” Kohga mumbled, still thinking. “I’ve got an idea. Why don’t we send someone to observe her for a little bit, see if she does anything else with the ancient arts, huh?”
“Everyone who has seen her in the past reported that she performed nothing similar to our abilities,” Sooga said, seeing no point in Kohga’s idea.
“Yeah, well… maybe you awoke something in her, hm?” Kohga shrugged, a more playful tone in his voice now. “Maybe I should send you again and she’ll do something even more crazy.”
“…I do not think that would work, Master Kohga.”
“I’m only messing with ya! We’ll send a spy, someone who’s good at going unnoticed. How’s that sound?”
Nodding, Sooga could agree to that. “I believe that would be the best course of action.”
Spending the next couple of days practicing transporting herself and combining it into her combat routine, Rose was happy to find that she’d gotten pretty good at it. She still needed a bit more practice, but perhaps she’d be able to perfect it once she joined the Yiga Clan, since someone there would more than likely help teach her.
At the moment, Rose was at the very top of Satori Mountain, sitting underneath the cherry blossom tree. She was mindlessly doodling in her notebook, drawing a blupee that had curiously followed her up the mountain. It was currently about fifteen feet away from her, checking out all of the carrots that grew around the small pond.
With a slight smile formed on her lips, Rose looked up at the blupee, finding that it was now scratching at its ear. The sight was quite adorable to Rose, and her eyes lowered back to her notebook, starting a new sketch of the rabbit-like creature, mimicking what she saw in real life.
Just as she finished the rough shape of the blupee, Rose looked back up to find that the little creature had moved. Looking around, Rose sat up straight to get a better look at her surroundings, trying to see where the blupee had gone. But, to her dismay, it had disappeared. Why had it run off? Typically they’d stay around Rose, so long as nothing else showed up. So she assumed that’s exactly what had happened, another animal was close by and had scared the blupee away.
Only… there were no other animals in sight. Not even the chirping of a bird or leaves scattering from a squirrel. Trying to sense any other energies around her, a chill went down Rose’s spine as she identified another person’s energy nearby.
Perhaps somebody from the Yiga Clan was here? Maybe Sooga was back, ready to interrogate her about her secrets? Closing her notebook and tucking it under her arm, Rose stood up and began to creep around, trying to spot where this other person was hiding. Except no matter how much she searched, the person was nowhere to be found.
No Hylian soldier or traveler would be able to evade her with such ease. So that meant it was somebody from the Yiga Clan, she just didn’t know who. At the very least, she was able to determine it wasn’t Sooga, as his energy could be quite strong.
Well, whoever it was, if they didn’t want any confrontation, then Rose figured that she should just continue on with her day. Sooga knew where she lived already, so it wasn’t as though heading home would be a risk any longer. Whether or not he’d told anyone else where she lived remained unknown. But considering that somebody was watching her, she was inclined to believe that he had.
Heading back home, Rose opted to simply walk down the mountain rather than transport herself. It had been a day of good weather, and now a cool evening breeze was sweeping through the area. Humming a tune to herself, Rose looked ahead at the sunset, admiring the golden rays that it cast off. How long would this unknown Yiga be stalking her for? She could only faintly sense them now, but she knew without a doubt that they were still in the area. Whatever it was they wanted to see, Rose figured that they’d be incredibly bored as they watched her go through her normal routine.
Now passing by Rutile Lake, Rose let out a yawn despite not being very tired. Perhaps trying to sense others' energies had taken up too much of her own.
Heading into her cottage, Rose set her notebook down at the table and began preparing herself a small dinner. She steamed a few vegetables over her small stove, cut off a chunk of bread from the loaf she’d baked a couple days ago, and then sat down at her table, mindlessly eating. Whoever was sent out to watch her was probably starting to get annoyed with her doing absolutely nothing out of the ordinary. But with a little smirk to herself, Rose was the only one who knew that boring them was all part of her plan. While she hadn’t expected somebody to show up so quickly, it was convenient for the plan. She would mislead them into thinking that she was unable to transport herself or do anything else remarkable, until she was ready to head to the hideout. Afterwards, she’d force them to take her there.
Finishing off her food, Rose stood up and cleaned her dishware before preparing a bath for herself. As she let the water warm up, she ensured that the door to her home was locked and that the windows were firmly shut. The last thing she wanted was to give this unknown Yiga the entertainment of watching her bathe. Making a fowl face at the thought, Rose pulled her bathroom door shut and locked it. Stripping herself of her day clothes, she slid into the water and allowed herself to relax.
With the aid of the warm, soothing water, Rose was able to get into a meditative state, successfully, for the first time in a while. With her mind clear, she could now clearly sense that the Yiga stalking her was still close by. The thought of wondering if they were bored yet vaguely crossed her mind, but when in such a peaceful state, Rose hardly cared. Instead of worrying herself over what they were doing, she allowed her thoughts to dissipate, putting herself into a quiet, calming trance. She thought of nothing at all, simply felt the life around her. An owl hooting in the distance, the vines that grew on the sides of her home, the water flowing in from the lake to her home.
She’d almost become too relaxed. Finding that she was starting to fall asleep, Rose snapped herself out of her meditative state and took in a deep breath. Exhaling, she opened her eyes and squinted at how brightly lit the room suddenly seemed, despite not being very bright at all. It was then she noticed…
The unknown Yiga’s presence had vanished.
Returning to the hideout, the footsoldier made her way to the dining hall that was reserved for only the highest-ranking members of the clan. Currently, that just included Master Kohga and Sooga. Upon arrival at the wooden door, she knocked before waiting to be allowed in. The two were more than likely having dinner, as was most of the clan at this hour. After a few seconds, Master Kohga’s lively voice beckoned her in, and so she opened the door and stepped inside.
Bowing to her masters, the woman waited to speak.
“Back already, Uki?” Kohga inquired.
“Yes, Master. The warrior- She’s… done nothing,” the footsoldier sighed, almost sounding slightly annoyed.
“What do you mean by ‘nothing’?” Sooga then pried.
“Well, mostly I mean she literally did nothing interesting at all. When I arrived, she was foraging in the woods, then she went up to the top of the mountain and started drawing. After that I followed her home and she just ate dinner and took a bath, it was the most boring thing I’ve ever seen-“
“But did she show any signs of using the ancient arts? I don’t need to know what Rose does in her free time,” Sooga clarified, after clearing his throat to cut Uki off.
“No,” Uki answered. “The only thing is… I think she was able to sense my energy, even after I’d tried masking it.”
“She was able to sense mine as well,” Sooga shook his head. “Although, I did not mask it.”
“But that’s not enough evidence!” Kohga cursed, “that’s it! We're just gonna have to ask her ourselves!”
“Should I approach her, tomorrow?” Uki asked.
“I do not think she’d answer to you,” Sooga sighed. “If anyone questions her, it should be myself.”
The three sat in contemplative silence, before Kohga finally spoke up again. “How about this; Uki, you go to watch her again tomorrow, and if nothing happens, Sooga will go the next day.”
Nodding, Uki agreed with a quiet “yes, Master.” Sooga then gave one nod, also in agreement.
“Alright… you’re dismissed, soldier, go get yourself some grub!” Kohga exclaimed, waving Uki off.
With a respective bow, Uki then made her way out of the room, leaving the two leaders to finish their meals.

Revalink Week Day 2: "You can do better than that"
A short little ficlet for Revalink Week!
This takes place in a universe that's slightly to the left of AoC, where Revali doesn't resent Link nearly as much since Link hasn't yet drawn the Master Sword and therefore isn't the Hero of Legend.
-------------------
There is something uniquely frustrating about almost having to admit defeat to a Hylian soldier. Doubly so when the only thing that saved him were his trusty bomb arrows, set to go off in the soldier's face. Were it not for the Princess’ interference, Revali would have won, of course —
But oh, it was a far closer fight than Revali likes to think about.
The soldier — Link, Revali learns from the Princess’ frustrated bids for independence — has recently been made part of the royal entourage after excelling at killing a bunch of low-level pests. Admittedly, he wields a sword with unusual proficiency, for him to even give Revali a challenge, let alone come close to defeating him.
That is why it is especially galling to come across him during a visit to Hyrule Castle and be forced to witness him treating a bow like a fledgling would.
“What do you think you’re doing?” he asks, clicking his beak when Link nearly lets his arrow go wild. How does he purport to call himself an archer if he cannot even focus through the most basic of interruptions? Revali learned archery with someone always chattering at his head, until he wanted to scream at her to shut up, but at the end of the day, he could have a bomb go off next to him and still keep sight of his target.
Link lowers his bow, thankfully letting the string go slack when he does so. Revali has seen what passes for archery with the Hylians. He wouldn’t be surprised if they mishandled their bows as well.
“Champion Revali,” he says, with a wary kind of deference that rubs Revali entirely the wrong way. The soldier who fought him hadn’t held anything back. Now that he’s been assigned as the Princess’ personal guard, he keeps trying to pull away from the Champions. Mipha is clearly hurt by it, and that only serves to increase Revali’s annoyance.
“What are you doing?” he asks again. Link looks at the ground, clearly unwilling to answer. Revali tsks, taking his own Great Eagle Bow from his shoulder and holding out an expectant wing. Link stares at it for an uncomprehending moment, before some sense finally penetrates into his brain and he hands him an arrow.
Of course Revali carries his own arrows, but why should he waste a perfectly good Rito arrow on a Hylian?
He aims demonstratively, making a much bigger show out of it than he needs to. It’s not even a moving target — he could hit those without looking when he was still a fledgling himself. But hitting the target is only secondary. Perhaps this way, Link and any Hylians fortunate enough to be nearby can finally see what proper form looks like.
And Link is looking, he realizes with a pulse of warm gratification. He’s tracking the movement of Revali’s wings and shoulders as he takes aim at the target, and follows the arrow when Revali looses the string.
It hits dead center. There’s nowhere else it could have gone.
Link nods, blue eyes very serious, and he takes up his own bow again. The way he mimics Revali’s stance may be a little clumsy, but it’s miles better than it used to be.
“Don’t keep your shoulders so high,” Revali says, and Link actually listens. He’s not used to the new stance, so his arrow doesn’t quite hit the center, but with enough practice…
Although, something has been bothering him since that time when they fought near Rito Village.
Link is undoubtedly a far more accomplished swordsman than he is an archer, but Revali remembers him trying to shield with his sword arm, even though his actual shield was carried solidly on his left. It was always just the barest of moments before he corrected, but a weakness nonetheless, and one he’d made use of more than once during the fight.
Like all the Hylian soldiers, he wields his sword with his right hand, and he shoots his bow with it too. But the Hylian army has the unfortunate habit of prioritizing uniformity over skill. Unless Revali is sorely mistaken, Link is much like him and would be a much better fighter if he were allowed to use his left hand instead.
There’s nothing he can do about it. Not right now, at least, with the Calamity looming ahead of him. Link will need all his skills to even survive the oncoming battle, and letting him use the hand that comes naturally to him would require significant retraining. For a Hylian, he’s competent enough with a bow. It will have to do.
But after the Calamity has been slain by their combined might, then maybe… Revali has been training fledglings since he was little more than one himself and desperate to contribute something to the village that had taken him in. It is hardly a challenge anymore, not when the Rito thrive in the air.
A Hylian, on the other hand… Earthbound as they are, that will be a challenge to mould into a proper archer. And it’s a challenge Revali looks forward to.
But for now, he can at least give a proper example. So he holds out his hand again, and the corner of Link’s mouth quirks when he hands over a new arrow.

A concept I have been playing with.
What if Wild and the Chain meet Champion during AOC? What if afterwards, Champion and Mipha have a daughter? What if TOTK happened to Champion first, Ganon won and the Chain arrived too late to help, but Champ got to tell Wild about his/their daughter? What if Wild was able to save her and bring her to his era?
Only one way to find out…
