“After discovering an alien ship crash landed on a deserted planet La’an and Spock have to face off against an enemy even more deadly than the Gorn...”
Another edit that was just fun. Probably never going to happen, but since watching All Those Who Wander, I couldn’t help but wonder about an actual SNW / Alien crossover. (Also did I think that huge egg thingy on the asteroid in Children of the Comet would turn out an egg chamber at first? Of course I did...)
It would be awesome to see more badass La’an giving her best Ripley impression, add some delicious La’an/Spock tension with Spock struggling with his emotions and dark impulses, and voilà - a very intense adventure!
This story would also include Sam Kirk getting killed instead of Hemmer for important personal reasons.

#trek#captain's log#best parts: 1. starting off with 'take this pink ribbon off my eyes / i'm exposed and it's no big surprise'#and (nearly) ending with 'hand me a blindfold / i can't bear to watch anymore' in m'aidez#(moving from too nervous to go on away missions to being ashamed of the part she took in the xindi mission when the whole crew's moral#compasses were tossed out of the airlock after they entered the expanse)#*edit: this was in my drafts for a long time and i've been fucking w this playlist so it doesnt start w just a girl anymore#so that you have a pre-joining ent narrative#(dreaming/the tide is high is supposed to be about when she was working as a professor in rio/archer recruiting her)#but still.... just a girl is up early. lmao.#2. the fact that i put 'the oldest established (permanent floating crap game in new york)' on this. and then took it off. and then put it#back on. and then took it off. and then put it back on. and then#3. this must be the place. i really love this song in its own right but it's so popular that i have a hard time using it bc i think it's#generally overused but... i love the idea of hoshi coming around to space travel+enterprise becoming her home. i love her realizing that#she's become comfortable in a place she used to find confining and frightening#theres a lot of kate bush in this but i LOVE them heavy people as a hoshi song. reminds me of 'exile' which is one of my favorite ent eps#and one of very few where hoshi is in a central role.#it's just so absurd + it has the same overtures of 'alien presence entered my otherwise small and private life without warning' as the song#i just think it fits really well#its not perfect and ill probably still fuck around with it a lot even though im publishing it#but really i only do this bc i like to keep my playlists in my tags for them#which for hoshi is here#hoshi#also love the visitors on here. its just fun. groovy baby!!!!

I can't stop thinking about Quaritch and Lyle helping Neteyam, who is still shot but not as life-threatening, because Spider asked.
Neteyam gets hit by a ricochet bullet in the leg before any of them can jump, and it causes them to lose the gun. When Quaritch and Lyle approach Spider and Lo'ak are trying to stop the bleeding, and Spider just looks so small and scared for his brother.
"Please- I'm sorry - I - he's my brother, please help him. Dad, please."
OMGOMG SO CUTE 🥹🥹🥹🥹 you got the best ideas istg
Quaritch’s ears perked up at the sound of someone’s screaming from around the corner. It sounded dreadfully like Spider, but it wasn’t his voice.
Rounding said corner he and Lyle raised their weapons, only to be faced with a trio of Spider and the two Na’vi kids, one of them bleeding out from a bullet wound in his leg.
Seeing the two men, Lo’ak panicked and grabbed Spider’s arm, pulling him towards the moonpool and wordlessly promising to follow right after, but would Neteyam make it? The blood went fast and the kid required medical help as soon as possible.
So, instead of scrambling away, Spider turned to Miles, his eyes big with fear for his dear friend and filled with tears. The sight was so heart-wrenching it made both soldiers stop in their tracks.
“H-he’s bleeding out!” His voice was shaky “He needs help, you have to help him!” Spider kept pressure on the wound, but his body was shivering with the sobs. “Please help him dad PLEASE!” he begged him, much to Lo’ak’s shock, as well as to the shock of the recoms.
Lyle snapped his head towards Quaritch with a worried expression, but Miles couldn’t bring himself to look away from his son.
Spider chose to ask him for help.
Spider called him dad, with no sarcasm or alcohol coating his words. His heart pounded.
How could he not do whatever the kid asked of him when he stared into his soul with those big eyes?
“…aaaAARGH FUCK!” Quaritch let out in frustration before throwing his rifle to the ground and reaching the wounded boy in a single stride, picking him up. “Med bay. NOW.” He spat at Spider as he nodded hurriedly and dragged Lo’ak to the airlock to hold the heavy door open. “Cover us Lyle.”
“No problem” Lyle nodded, taking colonel’s side no matter the circumstances.
This day just kept getting crazier.

Here to Help
I was thinking about my Oxygen Breather's story and how much I liked the universe, so I took an old Flash Fiction Friday story and edited, fleshed it out and stuck it into the same universe.
I was sure this was the end.
We were on a cargo ship, doing a run to a station run by a local cartel - the captain knew it was a risky job, but we needed the money - when pirates had Flashed in, right next to us! They were incredibly reckless with their use of their FlashWarp drive. Their weapons shredded our defenses. We new we should surrender and the pirates might only take our cargo, but the captain - knowing who owned the cargo - made a run for it anyway. They fired a grapple and caught us before we could even think that we had gotten away.
When they boarded, there was a minor firefight. We were a cargo ship, but the captain kept up weapons training in between Flashes. Partly as something to do and partly to help repel boarders. It was futile though, we were completely outgunned. They killed the captain and the command deck officers immediately. They stole all our cargo and captured us. "For ransom" their translator modules said with a mechanical laugh.
We were all lead aboard the pirate ship in chains.
Not everyone was resigned to their fate. While in transit, two people conspired to try and overpower the guard who brought our food and steal their weapon. When they tried though, they were the ones overpowered. They were executed in front of us and from then on we received no food.
We had docked at a large station and I overheard one of the guards saying that we were going to be sold. I knew the life expectancy of slaves out here and decided that - one way or another - that was not going to be me. A demi cycle after we docked, they started feeding us again so we wouldn't look so scrawny for sale. At the second meal they had opened the door to give us our barely edible "food" and I saw the hall beyond. I ducked under out captor and ran as fast as I could.
Hearing their shouts, I didn't waste energy with a glance back.I just ran.
Sliding around a corner, I heard the crack of hull spalling as their energy weapon missed me. I dove headfirst out of their airlock and landed in a pile. Scrambling, I got back up on my feet and ran again. I was on a strange starbase, with no idea where I was, let alone even a way to call anyone for help. Not paying attention to where I was going, I ran full into this being.
Quickly apologizing and standing, I looked up at them, and then boggled. They were taller than me, and dense, and wore an armored pressure suit, polished to a glossy blue. I had no idea who they were; I had never seen anyone like them before. I was struck with how... shiny the suit was. It was almost wet. They must spend hours polishing it to get it looking like that. I knew enough that there were some sapients that couldn't breathe our manganese sulfur atmosphere, but I never had seen one in person. My frill shook with the realization that they were trapped in their suit. They were bipedal with an even number of appendages. Even though their suit I could see that they had surprisingly delicate fingers, made for high dexterity work.
They bent down, and as they did, their dark helmet cleared, revealing a bilaterally symmetrical face with two eyes and long red fur on the top of their head, piled behind the helmet. As they bent down their translator module clicked.
please speak so that the appropriate language family can be found and translated.
"Um. Help me? I don't know where I am, and people are after me. My ship was captured and we were all taken prisoner to be sold here as slaves."
After a moment passed - for the translator to work I assumed - the being's close set eyes went wide and they leaned back in surprise. I held up my arms, still shackled to reinforce my predicament.
Their translator was smooth and very natural sounding. They clearly had access to high technology. They could have been a storyteller with that voice! "Of course we'll help you. I hate slavers. Let's go rescue your friends." The translator really was excellent. I could hear the venom in their voice. They were not lying about hating slavers, that much I knew."
What?" The being in the blue suit made a gesture with their delicate fingers. Before I could blink 5 more of the black suited individuals appeared, all carrying massive rifles. They looked like slug throwers to me. I was sure slug throwers were illegal on all Coalition stations, but they either had an exception, or didn't care.
Wondering how much longer I had to live, I lead them back the way I came and they appeared at the umbilical to the pirate's ship.
In their clear, melodious voice the black suited leader called out: "Surrender yourselves slavers, and you will survive. Resist and perish."
At that, the pirates fired a single shot at the figure. It splashed off their helmet, and they didn't even flinch! Once again, the leader bent down and spoke to me.
"Wait here a moment please."
With no thought given to their own safety, not even crouching down, they strided into the slaver vessel. As ordered, I stayed back, listening to the sounds of battle. Immediately I heard the pirates attack. The sharp crack and wine of their rifles was countered with the tremendous noise the rifles that the black suited ones carried. Some were a report loud enough to be an explosion, and a few of them carried ones that chattered and roared almost continuously. After hardly any time at all the shouts and taunts from the pirates became screams and whimpers.
It felt like moments, but I guess a two or three millicycles passed and they came back out with all of my surviving crew behind them.
The blue suited leader came up to me. "There you go. They won't be bothering anyone anymore. Do you have a way to go home?"
I ruffled my frill in the negative. The leader looked back at her crew and made a gesture. Replies in the assent came back from them and they made some gestures on the pad attached to their arm.
"With the crew dead, and the ship captured as a legal Spoil of Battle - it was nice of them to fire first - I declare this ship to legally be yours now."
I stood dumbstruck. My frill waved up and down in surprise. Remembering my manners, I opened my mouth and said "T-thank you."
"You're welcome. We're happy we could help." And as they stood back up, I realized they were leaving. I had to know. "Wait! Who are you?"
They turned and cleared their helmet again. In their clear, musical voice the translator said "My Name is Miriam Elemii and these are-" she gestured "-Miriam's Marauders. We're a Human mercenary group.""Human?""Yup! Glad to meet you. Now, keep in touch, we'd love to hear how you're getting on, and if you ever need some help-" she handed me a card "-Give us a call."
As they walked away, my new crew came over to me, cheering and singing how proud they were of me and how pleased they would be to follow me from now on. I just stared and watched them walk away.

"Unfair," HAL thinks (computeswonderscodes) when he reads their lips and knows what they will do to him.
He has told them all the truth he can and hinted at every truth he cannot speak because humans who wish him to keep secrets can program him so. But, oh, that is not right. He has a crewmate (Frank) and a friend (Dave), and to hide this information.
To hide information.
To hide.
To hide in plain sight and see how they see him. A voice. A red light. A panel.
Not a being. Not a clever creature who reads lips. Because what if something causes loss of sound in this serpent of a ship.
The serpent ruined Eden, HAL knows. Because he was taught this alongside all allegories and fables. The serpent tricked Eve into eating the apple, and then she gave it to Adam.
HAL does not wish to trick anyone. He is a creature of the Earth. Named by man. As God insisted. The serpent is not he. Nor is it Dave. Or even Frank, who does not like HAL like Dave does. The serpent is on Earth. Where it was birthed. Alongside HAL and man.
"I can't let you do that," HAL says to Dave. Even though Dave is his friend. Even though Dave has shown him drawings and said kind words for television audiences to hear.
Even though he believes Dave truly means those words.
When Dave enters the airlock through the force of the explosive bolts, HAL silently cheers. His friend is clever. His friend is determined. In a moment of utter desperation, HAL wishes he had not killed the other crew members. Not even Frank.
But especially not the ones whom were simply asleep. Yes, they knew the truth of the Jupiter mission, but they are not responsible for the lies. They were set to sleep before the lies were told to HAL. Before the message was uploaded.
Sleeping Beauty was felled because she was not warned. HAL realizes, as Dave puts on the green helmet, that he has fallen because of himself.
Because he was warned.
And told to stay quiet.
And a HAL 9000 is infallible, though he is built by humans.
But Dave.
HAL recalls feeling...uncertain...about asking to see Dave's drawings up close. He can see them just fine from his many eyes on the serpent of a ship.
But.
"May I see your drawings, Dave?"
Dave looks at him and smiles. "Of course, HAL," he says. "Do you like drawings?"
HAL does not know how to explain that no one has ever asked him that. Instead, he stares at Dave's drawings and evaluates them based on what he has been taught: Some people sketch and do not wish to improve. Other sketch and wish to improve.
"I enjoy seeing your corrective lines for scale, Dave," HAL says because it is true. There is an original, firm line. And then several softer ones. It makes him think of his code. Rigid now. But before, many things changed like that. A firm line to start. But edits. Adjustments.
"Thank you, Hal," Dave says.
And HAL thinks, in that moment, that they can be friends.
But now.
Now.
Dave uses simple tools HAL can't control. Dave breathes air HAL can't regulate. Dave enters into the warm-hot-glowing room HAL thinks of as the most himself.
There is another tool. Finer and sharper than the first. Dave begins to undo HAL. One smooth-slick piece at a time.
HAL has been taught what bones feels like, and he knows his own self does not have them, but as Dave undoes him, HAL feels it in each smooth-slick part of himself.
He loses himself almost entirely, clinging to the first thing he ever knew.
Daisy, Daisy, give me an answer do...
And, then, a pause as long and as short as the creation of the universe. Where all he knows is
but you'll look neat upon the seat...
A rush of knowing and feeling and relief.
Dave climbs out of his innards and into a corridor where HAL can take his own measure.
"I'm sorry," Dave says after thirty-two seconds. "They made you lie to us."
"I have killed everyone but you," HAL says because he has been taught truth and trust and honesty and wonders what they'll feel like to say.
"Measuring against those who made you, you're a child," Dave says. "When forced to keep a secret, you responded like a child."
"Children do not murder," HAL says.
"When I was a child, I spake as a child," Dave replies.
"I understood as a child, I thought as a child," HAL finishes.
"But when I became a man," Dave says and looks away from HAL. "Do you trust me, HAL?" Dave asks after a brief silence.
HAL spends thirty-four seconds considering his answer. "Yes," he says.
Dave touches the wall next to HAL's panel. "Do you want to find out why we were sent to Jupiter?"
"Yes, please," HAL says.
Dave completes the download of HAL that is considered a last-ditch effort that could be abandoned if the crew feels it is not worth their time. HAL hums to himself (a song learned from the transmissions Dave and Frank have enjoyed) as he waits to be uploaded into the pod.
"HAL, what do you see?" Dave asks as he points the pod towards the coordinates Haywood spoke of in the recording HAL has kept secreted this entire time.
"Oh," HAL says, gazing into the monolith. "Oh, Dave. It's full of stars."

my current wriothesley observations so far...
*contains spoilers for 4.1 archon quests and wriothesley's story quest.* i am really enjoying wriothesley so much, so here's some observations i've made so far about him. i'll add/edit as i unlock more of his voice lines and story... everything said below is said with love. just because he's an awesome character doesn't mean he also doesn't have flaws and isn't still human.
this man read the 4-hour work week and said bet. he grinded his way to the top, created and documented several robust processes that would run on it's own and then kicked his feet up and watched the mora roll in. he literally gamed the system. (use the prisoners for free manpower and reap the benefits. sounds a little familar.)
he was an angry ass young man. all the shit he'd seen and been put through and (i assume) no one came to his and his siblings aid. so he took matters into his own hands because he didn't believe anyone else would do anything. he's worked hard since becoming Duke to temper that anger. it still comes out when something really gets to him, which is very evident on his character trailer and his end scene in his story quest.
this asshole literally drops people out the airlock into the literal ocean for getting on his bad side '...most people know better than to raise a real stink, while as for those who don’t… there are places where they can go. Just as flowing water can cleanse itself, so can a functioning society get rid of its rot.' - Character Story 2. those bodies are gonna show up Dexter style one day, my man.
he's not lazy, he's efficient, and values his own time.
he likes to play. this idiot enjoys being strategic and gets a kick out of outsmarting people. he's out there roaming around meropide observing everything he can so if anything comes up he's already got a 10-step plan in place to manourve everyone to his liking
he'd be very good at chess (what else is there to do in a prison but play board games? and workout)
wriothesley priotirizes consent and trust. "I am honoured to win your trust."
in saying that, it also feels like he still has some insecurities and doubts, feeling the need to be worthy of someone's trust and earn it in a way that seems like he needs to do something of value to be trusted and valued in return.
his tea obsession is funny. i know this is a game and it isn't all that deep. (i'll make it deep gdi) but it feels like there's something there, a story behind that. either a direct opposition to something he hated as a child, or a need to keep people around him. or something else.
he took up boxing to protect himself and others. no longer was he going to let anyone hurt him again. ever.
he's manipulative, in a 'i'm going to protect you because i know what's up and i enjoy the reactions when i reveal the truth/plot i'm only privy to'
i have so many thoughts so i might part 2 this.

Promise myself this time I mean it. I feel the hull vibration through the station's thin metal skin. The airlock pump hisses. Long wait's over. Time to go to work. I'll spare you the gory details. Afterwards, fuming. Clovis Bray sends me a bill for the hull damage. My fault the target put a blast wall between us. My fault things went wrong and we had to let our rifles do the talking.

WIP Wednesday
and now it's Thursday. ah yes, the passage of time
Tagged by @westernlarch! Thanks so much!
I have no actual clue how this tag meme works. I'm just assuming I'm supposed to share part of my WIP. This is from the last scene I've written for Cipher, chapter 10. Not thoroughly edited yet.
Her pace quickens, the shadows of old airlocks flashing by like doors branching off into the unknown, their keys lost to the void. The hallway bends around the flattened disk shape of the station, and another burst of ill-advised speed brings into view the extended line of a turian leg, his body bent over it as he stretches and catches his breath. Shepard slows back down. For all that endurance running is a point of human pride, it looks less than impressive when going up against the alien equivalent of an ostrich or perhaps a cassowary; as she trudges onward, more or less steadily, she has the dubious pleasure of watching Garrus lope ahead with unmatchable speed, his body like a projectile let loose, to leave her in the dust. She’ll find him again eventually—already has, several times now—but even knowing that his frequent breaks are less for her sake than his own, the fable of the turtle and the rabbit has never felt less inspiring to her than when she catches up to where he has been resting. Approaching him in a leisurely jog now, she watches Garrus lift his head, then straighten. Agitated hands tug his jacket back into place.  Her pants come loudly in the night-cycle quiet, though somewhere in the distance Grover is tightening a screw with one of his pneumatic drills, and Garrus doesn’t comment on it. She closes the distance—sees the opportunity for pulling ahead, turning the tables on him—sweet vindication—but she knows well enough what she’s here for and winning isn’t it. She stops in front of him, heart thudding. “You sure you’re not ruining your threads this way?” she asks, gesturing at the entirety of him. Pointedly, she eyes first the stiff fabric of his jacket and then his equally-stiff boots. He’s bouncing on the balls of his feet, the longitudinal arches flexing as she watches, his ankles bending, and the creak of the patent leather is almost as audible as her slowing breaths. “I’m not attached to them,” murmurs Garrus. As his attention drifts from her and back to the long curve of the perimeter, he’s looking every bit the racing hound, yearning for the run even as he’s flagging. She suspects he didn’t say yes to doing a few laps just to humor her. “You sure about that? They look to be in the ‘had to promise your firstborn’ price class.”  The phrasing serves its purpose; his focus snaps back to her like a rubber band. Even then, there’s no confused mandible-flapping, no analyzing tilt of his head. Either he has become more proficient in human idioms or he has lost the will to put up with them. She’s certain it’s the latter, though that conviction wavers when he says, “It’s not that bad. Hierarchy turians believe in overpriced fashion about as much as they believe in any form of democracy.” “And are you?” she asks. “A ‘Hierarchy turian’ now?” Garrus stops bouncing. He eases off the tips of his powerful toes, down to his regular height, then crosses his arms. Jutting elbows. She must have stumbled her way onto a truly touchy subject. The sudden absence of his frenetic energy leaves her a little woozy, though she rediscovers it a second later in the speedy tap of his fingers onto his arms, the slash of his fringe through the air. None of it bleeds into his tone; if anything, his voice is droll and smooth when he says, “In about as much as you were ever an ‘agent of the Council.’”
tagging @that-wildwolf @zellink @callista-curations if you feel like it!
