Updated for Episode 12

So I did a thing. I went back to every episode of The Winchesters and I wrote down everything that Dean has said so far, and I realized moreso than before how EVERYTHING he says not only is the lesson/theme of the episode, but it all also applies to himself. Also, I'm not sure if other people realize this because not everyone is into classic rock as I am, (many of the songs are rock songs) but all the songs also match what the episodes are about. Let's start with episode 1.

Sorry if I overlooked something or for any mistakes, I did not rewatch every episode to make this.

I also apologize for how long this is. If I knew how to add the "read more" on this post I totally would.

Major spoilers for all episodes of the Winchesters ahead!!!

Episode 1, "Pilot": March 3rd, 1972. The day Dad came home from the war, and the day he met Mom. Now I know this story might sound familiar, but I'm gonna put the pieces together in a way that just might surprise you. And in order to do that, I have to start all the way at the beginning.

Obviously, Dean is just starting the story. He tells us this is when John and Mary are going to meet, and he's also foreshadowing what's to come. This is why I have high hopes for this show, because Dean says so in the beginning that even though you think you might know everything, there's really more to the story.

Dean also narrated at the very end of the episode:

What they didn't know is that the Akrida weren't just a threat to Earth, but to all of existence. Now, like I told you, there's gonna be some surprises. Hell, I'm still trying to find all the puzzle pieces myself. But I'll explain everything. And until then, I'll keep picking the music.

Also something to note is that this is the only episode that has a non music related title. I'm 100% sure that if it did have a song related title, it would be "I'd Love to Change the World" by Ten Years After. The beginning, when Dean is first narrating and while John is holding the letter that Dean gave him and pretty much up to the point where John and Mary run into each other, that song is playing. Then at the very end of the episode, when we see Dean in the flesh, it's playing again. I find this VERY interesting, especially since the music applies to everything in this show. This leads me to believe that Dean really is trying to change something because the song literally says "I'd love to change the world, but I don't know what to do, so I'll leave it up to you." (The song also mentions bees, which I thought was interesting. That could be nothing, though.)

Episode 2 "Teach Your Children Well": The ties that bind a family together can be complicated. Parents raise you, teach you what's right and wrong, and in some instances, how to kill monsters. But no matter who you are, there comes a time when you have to break from them and make your own way. And if you're not careful, things can get pretty ugly.

A big theme in this episode is parents, the guy who goes missing at the beginning for one, but mostly about John’s parents. John and Millie argue over John hunting and all around the episode is about kids forging their own paths and how it can cause issues which I feel like can definitely apply to Dean and how he discovers his identity away from his father and how the things his father put them through were wrong and how that caused issues.

Episode 3 "You’re Lost Little Girl": There's no map to being a hunter. No playbook. You gotta follow your gut. But that can only take you so far. Truth is, you can't do it all on your own. You need other people to help guide the way-- your friends, your family. Otherwise you just end up lost.

“You’re Lost Little Girl” is by The Doors. Some lyrics:

Impossible? Yes, but it's true

In this episode, Mary gets taken by a monster and everyone is trying to find her. Mary thinks that she doesn’t need anyone to help her because she’s a good hunter, but she ends up needing them to save her. It’s the same with Dean, Dean is an amazing hunter, but he still needs his friends and his family.

Episode 4, "Masters of War": Fighting the battle between good and evil isn't easy, especially when the first monster you have to face is the one inside yourself.

“Masters of War” is by Bob Dylan.

The lyrics for this song are very meaningful and well done. To put it simply, it’s about war and criticism of war.

“You fasten all the triggers

For the others to fire

Then you sit back and watch

When the death count gets higher

You hide in your mansion

While the young people's blood

Flows out of their bodies

And is buried in the mud”

In this episode, John and Carlos talk about their trauma from the Vietnam War and we really get an insight to how much anger John has in him. John is Dean’s parallel in this episode because Dean has a lot of unresolved trauma and deep rooted anger that is mentioned in Supernatural and it also fits because Dean was used as a weapon in a war against the supernatural from a young age.

Episode 5, "Legacy of a Mind": Spending a lifetime of hunting monsters takes its toll. There comes a time when you gotta let out that pain inside you. If you don't, it'll eat you alive.

The song “Legacy of a Mind” is by The Moody Blues

“He'll fly his astral plane

Takes you trips around the bay

Brings you back the same day”

This can be applied to what happens in this episode where Mary is stuck in her own head and has to face her trauma, and this song pretty much talks about trippy things like the lyrics above.

This applies so well to the episode because this episode deals with the complicated relationship that Mary has with her parents and her dealing with the trauma she has with being trained to be a hunter from a very young age and how it was wrong of them to do that to her, but she still loves her parents. This also applies to Dean, since John taught him about hunting from a young age, the same way Samuel and Deanna did to Mary. Mary is once again the Dean parallel, like she often is in this show.

Episode 6 "Art of Dying": Hunting has a way of changing a person. After a while, right, wrong, good, evil, they all start to look the same. And then it makes you start to wonder, "Who's really the monster here -- them or me?"

This is the only other episode where Dean narrated at the end:

Hunting's not for everyone. You have to be strong, stay sharp, make tough decisions, and it's not easy, but then again, the righteous things never are.

The Art of Dying is by George Harrison:

"There'll come a time when all of us must leave here

Then nothing sister Mary can do

Will keep me here with you

As nothing in this life that I've been trying

Could equal or surpass the art of dying

Do you believe me?"

and then the end of the song goes:

"There'll come a time when most of us return here

Brought back by our desire to be

A perfect entity

Living through a million years of crying

Until you've realized the art of dying

Do you believe me?"

This episode the core four finds a case involving an older hunter buddy of Mary's and it turns out that the monster is the ghost of the hunter's friend who the hunter friend and her group killed because he went too dark in magic. That's how the episode applies to Dean's monologue, along with Lata's fear of turning into someone horrible and letting her anger control her. John also (kinda) confronts his anger in this episode. The monologue also talks about how being a hunter is hard, but doing the right thing never is, which also applies to the characters of this episode, especially Lata. This applies to Dean because he really dealt with feelings like that during SPN, and being angry all the time and feeling like he was a monster, and how he always chooses to do the right thing when it comes down to saving the world, even when it's near impossible to.

Episode 7 "Reflections": There comes a time in every hunt when the fightin' starts. And the difference between winning and losing isn't whether you have the holy water, the wooden stake, or the silver bullet. It's whether you've got the grit to get the job done.

Reflections is by the Supremes:

"Through the mirror of my mind

Through all these tears that I'm crying

Reflects a hurt I can't control

Although you're gone

I keep holding on

To those happy times

Oh, girl when you were mine

As I peer through the windows

Of lost time

Keeping looking over my yesterdays

I think this one represents loss, especially the loss of Henry. Dean's monologue ties into this because in this episode there are multiple instances where the characters show real strength and bravery in order to come out the other side with a win. And this can obviously be applied to Dean and everything he has done and hunted and how brave he had to be to be able to actually get the job done.

Episode 8, "Hang on to Your Life”: Being a hunter, it means living a life of sacrifice-- not a lot of room for dreams. But if you open your heart and get a little lucky, you'll find you gain more than you lose.

Hang On To Your Life is by Guess Who:

“Thinking 'bout it's here and it's real

Wondering how I really should feel

Well you can sell your soul

But don't you sell it too cheap

Hang on to your life, oh life, oh life, oh life, oh life

Hang on to your life

Thinking 'bout betraying a friend

Thinking 'bout delaying the end

This episode is about Carlos’ dream of being a musician and how he had to give that up when he became a hunter. The parts about selling his soul and betraying a friend applies to the band member that Carlos used to play with and how he accidentally made a deal and because he “betrayed” Carlos by selling him out to Loki.

Dean’s monologue applies to the theme of found family in this episode. Even though they’re all a part of this life and had to give up their dreams, there is good that came from it in the form of family and friends, the same way that Dean found himself a family in the midst of it all. This is also the episode where John and Mary decided to get together, again proving that they can find something worthwhile, right before they found the picture of Dean. (Insert Miranda Cosgrove meme)

Episode 9 "Cast Your Fate to the Wind": This isn't how I saw things going when I pushed over that first domino. Thing is, I've had more than a few dances with free will and fate, but as my dad used to say, "Fate is what you make it."

The song here is actually a song that I didn’t know. It’s a jazz song by Vince Guaraldi. Honestly, reading the lyrics to this song make me think SO MUCH of John and who he becomes, and I’m actually going to put in the entire lyrics because I can’t chose one section that I feel is most important:

“A month of nights, a year of days

Octobers drifting into Mays

I set my sail when the tide comes in

And I just cast my fate to the wind

I shift my course along the breeze

Won't sail up wind on memories

The empty sky is my best friend

And I just cast my fate to the wind

That time has a way of changing a man throughout the years

And now I’m rearranging my life through all my tears

There never was, there couldn't be

Who'd drink the dark and laugh at day

Like, come on. This is so John coded in who he becomes and what happens to him. In terms of how this song applies to the episode though, it applies to the theme of fate throughout the episode, which ties in with what Dean says at the beginning. “Fate is what you make it.” This speaks true to John in this episode because he uses the knowledge of his death to his advantage and makes his own fate, which Millie uses the “fate is what you make it” line. I find this episode very interesting because they use the theme of fate in an episode that deals with vampires, and has a whole scene that parallels 15x18 AND Carlos gets to kiss his male love interest. Dean’s monologue at the beginning applies to himself because he’s dealt with fate and free will plenty of times in Supernatural.

I also find it interesting that Dean said that this isn't how he saw things going when he pushed over that first domino, which begs the question of what did he expect? What was his goal in doing all of this? It's also worth noting that immediately after he says that he says "fate is what you make it," saying the two apply to each other, go hand in hand. I don't think it's a stretch to say that whatever his intentions were, whatever he did, had to do with controlling his own fate.

So, just to recap: in an episode where the two main characters are dealing with being in a new relationship and whether or not they want to tell people, one of those main characters dies from a vampire in a direct parallel to the 15x18 confession, and two men have an on screen kiss for the first time, and the entire theme of the episode is fate. That's VERY interesting to me.

Episode 10 "Suspicious Minds": Hunting and happy endings don't usually mix, so when you get your chance, you got to ask yourself, "How far will I go to get it?"

This can be read as a direct tie in to his monologue in the last episode! It's along the same lines!!

Something I've noticed is that each episode I feel like the monologues get deeper and more meaningful, the farther we go the more is revealed.

This Dean monologue ends right as John and Mary get interrupted while they're kissing and Mary says "normal will have to wait another day" while there's a close up of Mary's college application as a mirror to SPN 15x20 with Dean's job application. Something I thought was interesting.

Suspicious Minds is an Elvis Presley song, which I know that the trend here is to include 60's and 70's songs, but knowing the intense meaning of Elvis in the Destiel fandom makes me feel a little unwell knowing Elvis actually gets incorporated into the text.

"Oh, let our love survive

I'll dry the tears from your eyes

Let's don't let a good thing die

When honey, you know I've never lied to you

Mmm, yeah, yeah

We're caught in a trap

I can't walk out

Because I love you too much, baby

Why can't you see

What you're doing to me

When you don't believe a word I say?"

So this is very much talking about one of the big plot points of this episode, a man who tries to bring his dead wife back to life in such desperation that he's willing to kill innocents to do it. Now the parallels drawn in this episode are very intentional to both John and Mary, even including the dialogue they speak after they kill said man and how John thinks that's love and Mary thinks it's horrible and she essentially makes him promise that that will never be them (clear foreshadowing) when in reality, even though it's showing that John already had the mindset of "doing it out of love" as he does in the future, they're both guilty of that. Mary brings John back to life when Azazel kills him, and as we all know, after Mary's death John goes on a revenge mission, wasting his life and putting his children through hell in the process. It's also just a running theme throughout SPN of toxic codependency and how almost every major character is also guilty of going to great lengths to bring the ones they love back. The song lyrics also apply to John and Mary as a romantic relationship as well and can show how their relationship is now and foreshadow what will happen in the future.

The thing that is different about this episode though, is that even though the parallels in this episode can apply to Dean, the actual Dean monologue doesn't, and this is what I find really weird and what I think is honestly one of the biggest indications that Jensen really is writing a fix it fanfiction:

This is the only episode where his monologue doesn't directly apply to himself. Every other episode ties in to his own experiences, except for this one. Dean doesn't go to great lengths to get himself a happy ending. Happy endings for other characters? Absolutely. But not for himself. Why would this be the only episode that doesn't directly relate to him? Well me and a lot of other people think because it really does apply to himself. But not as something he experienced in the past or has knowledge on, but as something he is doing right now. He is actively changing his future, possibly even a future with Cas (I do really think that there's a solid possibility that Destiel will become 100% canon in this show because of how everything is being set up, all of the parallels, and the fact that some of the cast, the social media team, and an executive producer has acknowledged some of these said parallels.) So in the end, how far will Dean go to get his happy ending?

Episode 11 "You've Got a Friend": Being a hunter means always being on the move. But no matter how hard you plan, no matter how hard you work, at a certain point, we all run out of road. It's what we do with those crossroads that define us.

"You've Got a Friend" is a song by Carole King from 1971:

"When you're down and troubled

And you need some lovin' care

And nothin', nothin' is goin' right

Close your eyes and think of me

And soon I will be there

To brighten up even your darkest night

You just call out my name

And you know, wherever I am

I'll come runnin'

To see you again

Winter, spring, summer or fall

All you have to do is call

And I'll be there

You've got a friend"

This represents Betty, and how in this episode she goes from being a potential source of trouble for the gang to becoming an ally, or a "friend" and an inside woman for them. This also can be applied to Carlos and Lata because Carlos was there for Lata and helped support her while Lata told Carlos about her childhood trauma.

In this episode, Dean's monologue is about the choices you make before you die. This can be seen in the choices made throughout this episode by multiple characters (Betty, Mary, John, etc) and this ties in with the song because no matter what choices you make, you'll have your friends by your side, which is true to Dean and just Supernatural as whole with their message of family and found family. Admittedly, I feel like the connection to Dean's voiceover and to the title of this episode aren't as strong as a lot of the previous episodes, but they're still there. (Betty, the "friend," makes a choice to work with the rest of the gang.) At the same time, I believe this can also be another instance of foreshadowing because Dean is dead, he's at that metaphorical cross road, and he's making a choice to go into the past.

As I said above, Lata faced her trauma. This is the 4th or 5th instance of someone on this show confronting their past. At this point, it's become a theme. Why would the show reiterate this point over and over? I think this will tie into Dean's reasons for why he's in the 70's. Not to mention this was yet ANOTHER episode where 2 characters are trapped in a room, and this time because of a shadow monster, and the only way to get out is if one confesses a deep secret. What the fuck.

Something to keep in mind is how much this episode emphasized secrets. This seems to foreshadow the fact that Dean is harboring some huge secrets that will soon be discovered. I think the real question now is how will these secrets be revealed to the audience and to our characters?

Episode 12 "The Tears of a Clown": Hunting is a dishonest business. You lie about who you are, and what you do. But the hardest lies aren't what you tell other people, but what you tell yourself."

The song "The Tears of a Clown" was released in 1967 by Smokey Robinson & The Miracles:

"Now if there's a smile on my face

It's only there trying to fool the public

But when it comes down to fooling you

Now honey that's quite a different subject

But don't let my glad expression

Give you the wrong impression

Really I'm sad, oh I'm sadder than sad

You're gone and I'm hurting so bad

Like a clown I appear to be glad (sad, sad, sad, sad)"

Okay, so this episode gave me a lot of brainrot. What the song is expressing is that even if you seem happy, that doesn't mean you are, and that was the big theme of this episode. Just because you seem okay or even think you're okay, that doesn't mean you are. With John, that applies to his anger issues and his unresolved issues with being charged for a murder he didn't commit. For Mary, it's the issues she already has, plus being unhappy in her relationship with John because she thinks he's using their relationship as an escape, and this also applies to her because even though she got accepted into college, she hadn't really taken any steps towards a normal life since then. In general, this episode was about a clown who lures emotionally vulnerable people into his circus tent so he can force them to be "happy" even though they aren't, like we saw with Roger.

This can very much apply to Dean's voice over, because the characters in this episode, including the clown, are actively lying to themselves.

The thing is, like a lot of Dean's voice overs, it's intentionally vague. He could be referring to literally anything. In the context of this episode, it makes the most sense that this is referring to Dean's anger issues and the fact that throughout the entirety of Supernatural, Dean oftentimes told himself and the people around him that he was okay, even though he wasn't. But at the same time, these voice overs and one like this in particular can be interpreted in different ways. What Dean says about facing the lies you tell yourself can apply to sexuality. Dean could be talking about not only his mental and emotional issues, but he could also be referencing being in love with Cas. At this point, Destiel happening feels like genuine build up. Now all we have to do is wait a couple more days to see if it all pays off.

How do you think Dean reacted to Hinny?

Because to him, his ex seemed to not be affected by the break-up too much, and then moved on to a guy that she used to have a massive crush on that took years to apparently get over, and said guy has spent multiple holidays at her house.

I'm just curious what you think Deans thought process was, did he feel betrayed? Did he hate or at least really dislike them for a bit? Or did he get over it quickly?

I just think Deans reaction would be really interesting to explore, and I really like your HP metas and was wondering what your thoughts are.

Well, he breaks a fucking glass. One thing is being surprised and letting the glass fall but he breaks it.

It's pretty obvious that Dean considered the relationship way more serious than it ever was for Ginny. I remember someone once doing here on Tumblr (unfortunately I don't remember who exactly) this whole analysis about Ginny taking the relationship for just a random relationship between teenagers while Dean took it way more seriously. There was a whole thing about how he was chivalrous towards Ginny as a consequence of his father abandoning his mother so he wanted to be the opposite of him, and how the trauma of Ginny not perceiving the relationship as important contributed to his already existing abandonment issues and there was a lot of speculation obviously but it was really fascinating.

And you know, the idea of Dean being terrified of being left by what he considered his first serious girlfriend is not that farfetched. Otherwise, why doesn't he leave Ginny? Everybody knows Ginny had feelings for Harry. Harry and Ginny come back from the summer all chummy. When Ron and Harry find Ginny and Dean snogging, Dean is not afraid of Ron but he is terrified of how Harry looks at him. After the first match, Harry goes to hug Ginny who is separated from everyone else. Ginny spends the whole Christmas holidays with Harry and comes back not wanting to go to Dean (ok that Ginny is a great liar but he must have noticed something). When Ron gets hurt Harry is there with Ginny and she doesn't seem to want Dean around. They have a huge fight over Dean joking about Harry getting hurt. Harry spends the whole book staring at Ginny.

If Dean didn't notice anything he was a bloody idiot. And I think his reaction to their kiss only confirms that Harry was definitely a discussed topic in that relationship. He probably felt a bit fooled and had a bit of that feeling of when you know you were right but you didn't want to be. He was probably also feeling a culmination of frustration built in weeks of seeing them getting closer and closer since the second he and Ginny broke up.

Ultimately he doesn't seem to hold a grudge against Harry, maybe against Ginny? Who knows. But I think once he saw them together it was pretty easy to understand why it could have never worked with him.

Ginny was definitely a bit unfair to Dean, she didn't do it on purpose but she could have treated him better. She was drowning in some good old-fashioned denial. I think it's why so many hinny shippers ship Dean with Seamus, Seamus is the agreed-upon apology gift.

I mean, a Ginny not in denial would have probably broken up with Dean the second he left her alone to deal with Ron.

Are we allowed to say we think Jensen Ackles sucks yet? Can we admit he's homophobic and any iota of support he shows is all part of the performance and not indicative of the truth which is that he hates gay people?

i have no idea what prompted this but okay. let's talk about it i guess.

1. what website have you been on for the past decade? calling that man homophobic has been all the rage for years.

2. genuinely curious what material difference you think it makes whether someone's actions are sincere or not?

3. speaking of his actions, let's do a quick recap of what he's actually done: towards the beginning of his career he played an explicitly queer character and may or may not have been slated to play another; the lore on that is speculative at best but what we do know for sure is that the character turning out to be straight had nothing to do with how willing he was to play a gay character.

then, he went on to do supernatural where fans very vocally shipped his character with his brother and sent death threats to their real life partners (and even actually physically harmed them). and then destiel came along and i think we can all agree that jensen ackles did not handle it well. he, without question, said some homophobic shit. and then for like a decade he stayed rigidly neutral on the subject and then the confession happened and he was vocally supportive of it and has remained supportive of it since.

then, he started his own production company with the specific goal of uplifting the voices of diverse creators and followed through on it. the supernatural spinoff series that y'all loooovvveeeee to hate on is chock full of all the stuff y'all shit all over supernatural for not having. and it's because he wanted it to exist in the supernatural universe.

he's also publicly spoken about regretting the way he handled all of the destiel/bisexual dean stuff in the early days.

so, like, what is it you're looking for? to see him hanged at the gallows? restitution? a personal apology? like, genuinely, what will make you feel better about this situation?

if you don't like him, that's fine. if you can't get over the homophobic stuff he said in the past, that's fine. but it feels like you all just want to live in a world where nobody is ever allowed to move past their mistakes.

and more importantly, why do you think i'm the arbiter of what you are and are not allowed to feel about a celebrity?

I get the feeling Jack and Castiel's redone heaven is a very different thing, besides no walls...

Like, it gives you thing's you want right?

So Dean of course wants Sam so even though it didn't seem like a long drive at a simple bridge stop, Sam's there.

Cas and Dean meet up soon after as well. It's not totally clear what happens between them, but they are running bar together shortly after and have their own house. It's odder when Benny, who was pretty sure he was morosely wandering Purgatory, a tiny amazon child in tow, then their walking out of the endless woods and come upon a bar. Dean's smile is radiant when he see's Benny, and so many things when he see's little Emma. In short order Benny has a spot behind the bar beside Dean while Castiel entertain's Emma with colorful drink parasols. (Jack show's up because he wishes to meet one of his siblings.)

Dean is somehow not surprised when Sam show's up with (he mocks delightedly) a vertaible harem. Madison apparently knows asl a bit and she and Eileen haven't stopped signing yet (Castiel joins in) Jess and Sam keeping giving eachother goopy eyes while Amy and Gabriel chat verbally. (Sam admits he already got to see Sarah, but that obvoiously her husband and daughter are with her.) Dean wonders if it's very selfish of him to be glad Sam's Amelia is nowhere to be seen.

Amy never speaks to him or acknowledges his existance. He accepts that as his jus deserts.

He isn't upset, like he thought he might be when Hannah comes in. (He does make a face at Balthazar but Bathazar makes a face right back so he thinks that's cool)

Jimmy and Amelia show up, and Cas, Sam, and Dean are happy to regale the two of all they know of Claire's life and accomplishments. Sam being the most recently dead knows the most. He and Jimmy get especially soppy over memories (and pictures) of Claire and Kaia's wedding.

Time probably passes. Dean, Benny, Cas, Balthazar and Hannah, little Emma in tow go home and return. They go on walks and drives. Sometimes he and Sam get together for a "just us drive". Sometimes Adam comes with. It's...slow going, but Dean and Sam try and Adam tries...Adam becomes much, much happier when a morose and apologetic Michael shows up. Dean figures he can't throw stones about ones eternal partner...(but he really wants to) (granted he also wishes Gabriel would stop with the eyebrows. He doesn't care if Sam is technically and old man...that is his baby brother why are those eyebrows waggling!) (Lenore who has also come by, her own bar coming into being directly across the street from Dean's, does the same thing. Sam looks delighted and helpess at all his loves. Lenore is a love he didn't even ever consider...but she's hear now and Dean whines because he was the brother with the vampire significant other...Sam's just copying him...) (This doesn't stop him from teaming up with the former trickster for an epic prank war.)

Henricksen makes his way to the bar. Along with sweet Nancy. Dean actually squeaks a bit when Benny gestures her behind the bar. He thinks he feels something like twelve with his first crush with her. It's something so very new and he thinks he likes it. Henricksen "I think you can call me Victor these days" drops by every now and then. He's on Dean's team for the prank war. (Nancy and Hannah get along great)

Dean, Sam (and Adam once he's introduced) are giddy when Henry Winchester arrives.

The real Meg Masters comes in at one point. Sam and Dean thank her again for trying with her last breaths to help them, she tries to aplogize for her angry ghost self but gives up with a happy laugh when they stick their fingers in their ears and sing until she stops. She has nothing to ever apologize for.

John and Mary come in...things are strained between them all. A lot of hurt...a lot of disappointment clouds their interactions. Emma tries to bite John's ankle.

Ash opts to live part time and the roadhouse and part time at Dean's bar, which mysteriously named itself Thursday's Child at some point. Dean also obediently goes to visit the roadhouse at Ellen and Jo's demand. Jo never work's at Dean's bar...but she does eventually make her way home with him and the rest. (Sam points out that he can't mock his number of significant other's anymore.)

Andy Gallagher, when he shows up, shepherding a scowly blonde goth girl and a sweet looking girl in front of him, zeroes in on Sam. He becomes Lenore's bar's resident "guy who sleeps on tables" but often follows Sam home. Lily (who made Sam look like he wanted to cry until the girl awkwardly kicked his shin and told him he tried and it wasn't his fault) and her girlsfriend mostly hang out at Lenore's when they pass through.

One person who goes to Sam's house, not the bar is Barry, the boy Sam had been friends with at Truman, not looking much older than when they were there. It's heartbreaking to think on. Sam does cry, when Barry knocks on his door one day. Interestingly enough, when he heads out to spend time with his friend...Sam is a child again for that time.

One day, when Dean takes a walk alone, he meets a young man. He knows him. Amy Pond's son. Dean accepts his earned censure and if Amy and he are with Sam, Dean know's he won't be seeing his brother that day.

Crowley, really, Fergus Macleod, shows up. He's on a bit of a time share with hell, he can't always be in heaven, his past as a demon being a bit problematic, but gets visiting rights.

More people come, Claire and Kaia, Garth (Dean no longer has any reservations about hugging Garth). Bess, Gertie, Little Cas and Littler Sam, Little Dean...a variety of folks that the winchesters or other's they know drop in and out. It's often busy and crowded and Dean is never truly alone.

It's Heaven.

oh okay okay okay hear me out: dean's widower arc 2: electric boogaloo that is post-canon pre-empty rescue moments. people have talked about how he leaves cas texts and voicemails and yes that fucks so hard like!!!! can you imagine!!!!

at first it's mostly a lot of angry, helpless drunken ramblings. this is like pre 15x19, let's say when he's like alone alone. he'll be like come back, you son of a bitch! he'll be like how dare you. he'll curse and yell and cry and brokenly say, you had me, cas. we had each other. but then lucifer calls him and it's so fucked up dean can't bring himself to pull up cas' contact for a while. they beat god. they get their lives back. jack comes back to them (he must!!!). their lives are theirs again and dean's determined to look for a way to get cas back. his voicemails are now everyday updates. he tells cas about jack. about sam and eileen. about a thing he's cooking. about what research is like. he still gets drunk and says dumb shit sometimes but then he'll apologize in the next voicemail. it's like prayer but it makes him feel better that it's a tangible thing. it makes him feel like cas is actually listening. the illusion of cas' life is easier to maintain when the phone against his ear is solid and cold and grounding in a way.

when cas comes back, they figure out that cas' phone's just lying around the bunker somewhere. Dean finds it, but doesn't give it back to cas right away. they exist in this limbo where it means so much that dean spent so much time to get cas back and that he risked so much to rescue him, but all these months of pouring his heart out to a phantom still doesn't prepare him for the real thing. cas, for his part, is just happy to be back but he's also very wary and is perpetually waiting for the other shoe to drop. they go on like that for a bit until it all comes to a head at some point because cas has misplaced guilt and dean has misplaced anger and it's always a bad combination and cas is like maybe i should go and dean's so mad he just stalks up to his room and brings cas ' phone to him and he's like do whatever you want. and then he goes to his room to just drops to the floor, head in his hands. cas turns on his phone and yep. all these texts and missed calls. and then the voicemails. he spends the night listening to them and then he FINALLY SEES it and goes to find Dean in the early hours of the dawn and dean's still on the floor against his bed and cas settles down next to him and they don't say anything for a bit but then cas just turns and hugs him and buries his face in dean's hair and hey look it's not everything but it's a start and they're gonna be okay. like. suddenly they're both aware that they have the rest of their lives. and like. IT'S SO. HMM. LOSING MY MIND THIS MORNING!

Do you respond to comments?

Honestly, no. Trying to respond stresses me out. It can take me literally hours to figure out how to respond to a single comment, and then I feel like, if I respond to one, I have to respond to all immediately, and my anxiety can't handle it. So I've mostly stopped responding. Every now and then, I will respond to a friend because I don't stress over those, or if someone makes a weird comment where they seem to have misunderstood something I might respond to try to clear things up.

What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?

For 911, honestly, I don't think I have any angsty endings. Plenty of angsty fics, but most of my endings are happy or at least hopeful. I guess I would maybe say the one with the angstiest ending is Believe in one thing, I won't go away, but the end is still pretty hopeful.

Outside of 911, the angstiest ending was definitely in a little Supernatural fic I wrote many years ago titled The Things They've Left Behind. It's also one of fics I'm proudest of. But it's a rough one.

What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?

Honestly, there are quite a few happy endings to my fics, but I think say (don't) go takes this one. It's a little angsty through the main story, but the epilogue is just pure fluff.

Do you get hate on fics?

Not often, but once or twice. More often than hate for the fic, I get sort of weird hate comments about side characters in the story. Like, I'll have a fic where Taylor Kelly is kind of in the background, but not in any way written hatefully or even negatively, and people will just go off on the character in the comments, which is weird and not a great look. Don't do this, y'all.

I did once get a hate comment accusing me of villainizing Eddie based on the summary alone, I believe. I responded, and they apologized, which I appreciated. But I will never understand people's need to toss around accusations without even reading the actual fic.

Do you write smut?

I have in the past, but not recently. I really have to be in a very specific mood to write smut, and often I just cannot tap into the focus I'd need for it because I generally find writing smut boring. So it takes me forever to actually finish anything even a little bit smutty. I've had a post vow renewal smut fic in the works since the vow renewal aired, and I just can't get it together.

So. Often not my cup of tea as a writer.

Craziest Crossover:

Okay, I don't have this posted on Ao3 (I think it's on ff.net?), but I once wrote a series of Sam Winchester/Temperance Brennan fics. Those were fun times.

Have you ever had a fic stolen?

I don't think so. I had a couple of fanvids stolen back when I vidded for Bones, but never fics, I don't think.

Have you ever had a fic translated?

I think someone asked once and may have done the translation? I can't remember if anything ever came of it, though.

Have you ever co-written a fic before?

I have not. I don't have the focus or discipline to co-write with anyone. I would immediately lose focus and cause everything to go off the rails, and I would never want to do that to someone else.

All time favorite ship?

All time? I don't know. I really want to say buddie, but also, like Mulder/Scully and Sam/Dean. Honestly, I tend to be just very, very attached to my ship of the moment, so answering for all time is tough.

What's a wip you want to finish but doubt you ever will?

Probably this Natalia finds out about Chris fic because I keep accidentally fogetting it exists, which. is hindering progress.

What are your writing strengths?

I honestly don't know. I think maybe emotional scenes or angst?

What are your writing weaknesses?

A lot. Focus is the worst. I just don't really have it, and it makes writing near impossible. I also don't think I'm any good at scene transitions or dialogue sometimes.

Thoughts on dialogue in another language?

I wouldn't personally do it because I don't have enough of any other lanuage to feel comfortable with it. I might use a word here or there if the character uses it regularly and I feel generally comfortable with the context and/or translation. I also don't love when people drop in dialogue or things in other languages and admit to just using google translate because that feels. not great.

I also don't think it should be translated in the middle of the fic. Sometimes, it's okay to not understand every single word of a fic, and people who speak and write in other languages shouldn't have to translate every word for their readers over a couple of lines in another language. Which might be a weird take, but that's where I stand on it, I think.

First fandom you wrote in?

Like, in my little notebooks before the internet was a thing in my house, it was The X-Files when I was like 8-11. That I posted in a fandom I actually interacted with, I think it was BtVS.

Favorite fic you've written?

This one's kind of a toss up. For 911, I think it's probably one of the following:

I know I should narrow it down more, but I don't know. That first one is probably recency bias and the fact that parts of it are deeply personal to me. The second is the Eddie wants kids fic, which I worked on for months, so it has a special place in my heart. The third one is kind of a weird little experiment that was just unlike anything I'd ever written before. And the fourth one is a post break-up fic, and I really enjoyed playing with that kind of angst.

So they were all pretty different, and I can't choose.

An Open Letter to Humans

Published independently with my own funds - because I knew this one was never going to be allowed in any sort of reputable journal.

Humans are gross, we know this, this is not something that surprises anyone, or will surprise anyone in future generations to come. Humans, like all species from Earth, are a cesspit of diseases, viruses, and bacterial infections. They openly leak bodily fluid at any and all moments, and they are constantly shedding dead organic tissue. Not to mention that any and all human waste constitutes a level three biohazard, and even their blood must be incinerated with medical waste. It really is a miracle that none of you humans just straight up and die with the amount of ways that bacteria and other illnesses can enter the body.

But this paper I am writing isn’t simply about how passively nasty humans are, this paper is about how actively disgusting humans CHOOSE to be, with their little daily habits, and I feel that it is my duty to call each and every one of you out on this behavior.

Please avert your eyes at this moment if your stomach is easily turned, as I will not apologize for what follows.

Stop EATING your sheded organic tissue. STOP IT.

I am fortunate, or perhaps unfortunate, it is hard to tell, not to have a gag reflex or the ability to vomit because if I did, this topic of discussion would certainly do it for me.

Autocannibalism

The fact that this is EVEN A WORD in your language boggles my mind. You all know that cannibalism is to consume someone of your own species, and this word exists because there are plenty of creatures in nature that do this including at least one sentient species that I know of,, but autocannibalism is to consume YOURSELF, and humans HAVE A WORD FOR THIS.

Not only that, but this practice is actually quite common. A human will deny that they do it, but they are wrong. A list of these comes as follows.

Biting the inside of your cheek

Peeling AND EATING the skin off of their own peeling lips! Like what the shit! Just….. Moisturize, drink some water, STOP EATING yourself. THERE ARE BETTER ALTERNATIVES!

Dandriff…. I can’t… I can barely even articulate this one. W why…. Why would you do this? Why would you put that in your mouth! STOP IT stop it. You might as well just lick dust off the floor, it would be the same concept.

Then there are some of you that eat hair!. I know this one is classified as a psychological condition but…. But you need to understand. HAIR can block your internal organs, and “I” may have to remove it SURGICALLY IN LARGE CLUMPS like pulling hair out of a drain only a million times worse. Please, please get help. I am begging you please. I know this one is not your fault but PLEASE. I have even see this behavior in non-disordered patients, specifically humans with long hair who suck on, or chew on the ends of their own hair. It's nasty, stop doing it, just stop it.

Then there are those degenerate assholes out there eating their fingers. Yeah yeah granted most of the time it is simply the skin, or the callouses that build up on the side of the thumbs or the tips of the fingers from where they have picked at it before but still SOME OF THEM EAT IT. This one can also classify as a disorder if it’s bad enough, but MOST of the time it is regular ass humans who just EAT THEMSELVES ON OCCASION.

Some of you fuckers eat scabs, you know who you are, and I am officially never looking you in the eye ever again you sick fuck. Not only is it disgusting, but you are actively interfering with the healing process, and as a doctor if I see you picking at your scabs. I WILL END YOU.

Scratch and sniff….. Need I say more? If you have no idea what this means, then good for you, but for those of you that do know WHY???????

Popping pimples, and some of you assholes think it's fun or satisfying…. It's DISGUSTING

How about all of you assholes that pick your nose AND EAT IT! Mother of the architect himself, it can hardly get any worse than this can it????? The mucus and hair in the human nose is specifically designed to stop things from getting inside, but NO you are going to take it out and then ingest it another way….. I think I am going to spontaneously develop the ability to vomit.

Picking earwax from your ears…. And I am just going to let you think about what some people are going to do with that. I want you to sit and think about what you have done. Take a really good, long look at your life and WEEP.

Belly Button lint....

Did you know they once did a swab of a man’s bellybutton, and it came back with a specific bacteria/or fungus that only existed in certain parts of Japan…. This man had never been to japan….

Wash your bellybuttons! The fact that I have to instruct humans on the finer points of their own hygiene, is extraordinary.

Toe jam

Eye sand/ gunk after waking up

All the shit under your fingernails, which some of you sick bastards clean USING YOUR TEETH. You know what is probably under there!!!!???? Disease, the answer is disease.

Some of you actively lick, your own wounds, and believe me I cannot stress then enough when I say the LAST THING in architects churning universe, you want to do is put a human mouth ANYWHERE NEAR an open wound

Now I can’t say that all humans do all of these things, some humans only do one or two of these things, and some humans do only parts of these things, maybe skipping the auto cannibalism. But I guarantee to you that any human you look at has at least one nasty habit that they won’t tell you about. In fact most humans will find the above actions very gross, and will likely refuse to admit such actions to other people though they actively participate.

Indeed, the only group of humans who I have found actively bragging about their nasty little habits are the humans that chew on their hands, and humans that lick their own wounds. For whatever reason some of these sick individuals see it as some sort of funny quirk that they like to eat themselves and spread disease over open wounds.

- As the author, I have a bad habit of chewing on the sides of my thumbs, so, guilty as charged, and I thought Krill would be pissed about it. I have permanent callouses on my hands from this practice which ahs been going on for over a decade now, lol

Thoughts While Watching Gilmore Girls- Season 1, Episode 21 (Love, Daisies, and Troubadors) Part THREE.

Please check out my pinned post for the rest of season 1 as well as part 1 & 2 of this season finale. We resume our regularly scheduled program, which is Buttzilla Forrester in the middle of a jealous rage, trying to manipulate RoryGil (who isn't even his girlfriend anymore, by the way).

I HATE IT when Rory apologizes to Dean like this and she's done literally nothing wrong! It's so sad. My feelings about later seasons Rory are...a mixed bag to say the least, but I will defend Season 1 Rory with all my might.

Gaslighting: to manipulate (someone) by psychological means into questioning their own sanity. Buttzilla: Your boyfriend's waiting. RoryGil: He's not my boyfriend, I hate him! Buttzilla: Whatever. Biggest fictional piece of shit on the planet. Literal dogshit stuck to the bottom of your shoe. RG: Dean, stop! Buttzilla: Why. RG, Pained and Unconvincing: Cause I love you, you idiot. You know there are literal people that find this exchange romantic? Not many,as The Dean Forrester fandom is small and they seem to know their place and not emerge from the shadows. But they exist. Uh oh. I hear corny music... it's happening...

Alexis is frozen solid. She is not moving. Her mouth isn't moving. Her hands are not moving. Her spine is stiff. I don't even need to post pics or gifs of her kissing Milo to compare the two, we've all seen them.

If you would like me to further ruin your Thanksgiving, imagine this following disturbing but absolutely true scenario: Rory and Dean sleep together. Dean refuses to go down on her, fucks her for 15 seconds, finishes and has this same stupid smile on his face, all "was it good for you baby?" and Rory's like "Sure, you did great, tiger." and he believes it. Also Lindsay. Poor Lindsay. #JusticeForLindsay Ugh. I survived. We all survived. Ya'll okay? Diet Logan witnesses this and puts down Rory's books, probably traumatized into being a better person, because I know I was close to promising I'd find Jesus if only that kiss would mercifully end. We cut to the Indepdence Inn and Michel and Kirk arguing because Max took Lorelai's "1,000 yellow daisies" suggestion very, very literally and the Inn is now filled with fucking flowers. Kirk Job: Flower delivery man. Lorelai stands there in stark silence admiring the daisies while Michel calls daisies "Pitiful little things, a notch up from weeds", which is also what I think of Dean Forrester. This relationship is going to LAST....! ...For about another four episodes. Max: I didn't propose to you because we were fighting. I proposed because I love you. Lorelai:

"Help. Me." MM: We're in a bad pattern Lorelai, and we have to break it. That's why you proposed to end an argument, got rejected, didn't have any discussion about it whatsoever like grown ups, pretended it didn't happen, took an off the cuff suggestion she gave you way too literally, then waited exactly one more day to propose a second time. Goes into a blathering Mediocre English Teacher Speech about how books just can't compare to real life blah blah blah. Look, in my occasional headcanon where Jess Mariano grows up to become an English teacher he would never be this fucking pretentious. Lorelai: "God you talk so good." To be fair, he doesn't exactly propose to her over the phone, he's all "think it over" but this thing with the daisies feels really manipulative. How the hell is she gonna say no now? Lorelai bursts into Luke's Diner. Luke: Ahhh, you made me spill. He said the same thing while he was fixing her porch rail.

Cute.

You were curled up in your bed, blanket pulled up until under your eyes when you heard the knock.

You didn’t say anything but with a click your door was unlocked, you frowned and wanted to scream at whoever entered until you saw two blue eyes.

“Cas…” You sat up in bed and when he sat on the side of it and opened his arms you fell right into them.

He wrapped his arms around you, he moved to sit with his back against the headboard with you snuggled into his side.

You sighed deep. “Did Dean call you?”

“He did”

You sniffed again, feeling the tears well up at just the mention of his name.

“So you know what happened?”

“I know he knows how you feel about him and that he is very sorry.”

“Yeah, it’s not his fault, I shouldn’t be as hurt as I am over something I knew for years.”

Cas rubbed his hand over your back.

“I just… I had this iny tiny flicker of hope that maybe deep down he felt the same you know… but yeah, he doesn’t.” You scoffed and wiped at your eyes. “God why am I even crying? Love never works out for me… I should stop whining about it and get used to it.”

“You’ll find someone.”

“Yeah.” I don’t want someone, I want him.

You detangled yourself from him. “You don’t have to listen to me whine, I’m sure you have more important stuff to do.”

Cas tilted his head at you. “You are important.”

You chuckled, “More important than heaven?”

“Yes.”

“Why are you so kind to me?”

“Because you are my friend and I care deeply about you.”

You laid back down next to him, shoulders touching.

You chuckled remembering the first time you met.

“I never apologized to you.”

Cas frowned, “For what?”

“For when we first met, I tried to stab you.”

“Oh that, it’s fine, happens all the time.” He smiled at you and you looked into his eyes, staring a bit longer than what was considered normal.

You always shared a deep bond with Cas, he was a good friend and understood you better than anyone, you loved how he could be so smart and oblivious at the same time. How he could be all sweet and cute the one second and be totally terrifying the next. You often forgot he was an actual angel, how powerful he really was.

“Can you tell me one of your stories again?”

Cas chuckled, “I can, pick a time.”

“Uhhm what about, 1920! The roaring twenties!”

“Hm yes, it was as you probably know, a social and cultural peak in human history.”

“Yes. Is it true it was all about partying like in the Great Gatsby?”

“Partly yes, economic was at his height and people could afford more. But the patriotism of World War I also started back then.”

“Oh yeah, the war, must have been some busy years for heaven.”

“In a way it was.”

“Where were you back then?”

He looked up in thought. “I was here on earth, observing.”

“Just observing? You didn’t try to stop it?”

Cas shook his head. “No, we are under no circumstance allowed to interfere with big events, World War I is a fixed point in time.”

You frowned, “Fixed point in time?”

“Like you have to imagine time as a piece of thread, and it is pinned on a wall by thumbtacks, these fixed points are the thumbtacks and prevent them from falling off the wall. Any interference with a fixed point could make it possible for a time line to fall off and cease to exist.”

“Oh so if you would have helped in the war, this world wouldn’t exist anymore?”

“Time is something very complicated, I can’t begin to explain it, but in a way yes.”

You patted his chest. “Yeah, you did have quite the character development.” You chuckled.

“I did, most because of you.”

“Yes, you make me look different at things, try to see the beauty in a flower instead of just looking at the molecules in it, you make me want to enjoy the little things in life, you make me more human.”

You blushed at his words. “Why want to be human, it totally sucks!” You joked at him.

“There is an awful lot of pain yes, but there is also happiness, the amazing taste of food, love, passion, sex, all things humans explore.”

“Yeah well not all humans get love, passion and sex…”

“Y/n…”

“Yeah I know, I’m sorry, just ignore my whining.”

Tears were welling up in your eyes again.

“You are not whining, you are hurt, it’s okay.”

You scoffed through your tears. “Guess your grace can’t fix a broken heart?”

“Sadly no, I’m sorry.”

“It’s fine.”

“It’s not Y/n, you don’t deserve this, you deserve to be loved.”

You put your head against his shoulder, “Do I?”

He frowned deep, he moved his hand to your face so he could look into your eyes.

“You do, don’t ever think you don’t deserve love.”

“I just” a sob broke through your chest, “I want him so bad it hurts Cas, I just want to be with him, every time I see him I fall in love all over again, how am I supposed to get over that?”

“Give it time, time heals everything and I will be here every second of the way.”

You clung to him.

“Thank you.”

He moved to look into your eyes again. “Dean is extremely sorry.”

“Of course he is, that man lives on guilt, I should apologize to him…”

“You don’t have to, it is not your fault you love him, you can’t help it.”

“Yeah and Dean can’t blame himself for not loving me back. I just… I wished he did, I wished so damn much he did.”

Cas wrapped his arms around you, rubbing your back and stroking your hair.

“This feeling, it will pass Y/n.”

“I don’t think it will Cas, I love him so much… and I just lost him, forever, I feel like he died.”

“I’m so sorry Y/n.”

You sat up again, sitting cross-legged toward Castiel.

“Can you stay here with me today? I feel like drowning and you are my life vest, but if you have more important stuff to do, it’s okay.”

“Nothing is more important to me than you, yes I will stay with you.” He gave you a kind smile.

“Thank you Cas.”

You laid back next to him and asked him to tell you another story.

Cas gladly obliged, he wrapped you into his arms again and enjoyed the feeling you gave him whenever you were close, it gave him a weird sensation in his stomach he quite didn’t understood.

I knew nothing good would come of this. Dean was actually surprised that Tess died - I mean she chose to break the demon trap when she knew herself it was a bad idea. Now Dean has to deal with the mark of Cain 😤

I did find it interesting that the show decided to put a twist on the famous Cain & Abel story and how it echoed Sam and Dean's story. But there was no angel for Cain when he sacrificed himself, or his brother Abel.

Who knows how many other pairs of brothers throughout history were put in the same position across time? Cain and Abel were among the first humans…I don't think since the dawn of human existence it was just Cain and Abel then Sam and Dean. Not for a second. Especially with what we learn later…

Man Dean just gets douchier and douchier. With everyone, even Sam and Castiel. My God.

Abaddon died…yay? That Crowley son of a bitch. First he fucks Dean up, shoots up human blood ….recreatively? And strands his son out in present day despite the fact he was just in 1723. Will we even see Gavin again?

Man I really do not care for Metatron, I cannot wait till he dies. I mean I guess he’s pushing the narrative forward some but jeez what a douche.

Then he became a demon…NOOOOOOOOOOOO

And he’s gonna be with Crowley

While the Dean and Castiel scenes got some good stuff going - Cas losing his powers and becoming mortal - why couldn’t he be picked up? The way these guys constantly drive around the country: If Dean really wanted to assure Cas was safe from any avenging angels post fall, he’s only a car ride away 😔

Anyway, kicking Cas out was a douchey thing to do but it made for good drama. As did having the two reunite a few episodes later.

There’s also the apology scene and them working together on cases, but after Dean gets the mark of Cain and Castiel gets pulled back into the angel stuff, their stories detract from one another. Dean does see Castiel again towards the end of the season but by that point he’s totally affected by the mark and Castiel is once again mixed up in angel shit so he doesn’t really get any quality time with Dean for more than half the season. It’s a shame because Dean probably could’ve used more time with his angel friend, given what the mark was putting him through. Oh, well.

hii i love your banner btw. i'm curious how you feel about the episode Scoobynatural as a spn and a scooby doo fan. don't feel any pressure to answer!

The pressure to talk about both Scooby Doo and Supernatural just exists naturally inside me all the time, so sorry for the incoming explosion, but when the crazy is directly poked it tends to burst, lol.

Putting in a cut, because this is probably going to be long...

(I apologize in advance.)

So, thank you for asking! I'm kinda old, been watching Scooby Doo for well over four decades and have been a huge fan of that franchise since I was very small. I even once joined a mail order (waaaaaaaaay before the internet) fan club that issued me an official membership card and everything. Shit, I just realized as I was typing this that I'm actually wearing a Scooby Doo shirt right now, lol.

So, shortly after I finally succumbed and started watching Supernatural, at the beginning of 2015, I wanted the two shows to cross over. I kept thinking about it, writing up little drabbles and whatnot, and commissioned the piece that I use as my mobile banner/cover image. So when they announced, in late 2017 I think, that they were going to actually do a crossover episode, I was over the moon!

As for what I think of the episode, well, that's kinda complicated. To preface, I have two entirely separate rating systems for things that co-exist weirdly in my head, both my objective evaluation and my subjective opinion. These often seem to contradict each other, try not to let that get to you, like I said, it's complicated, but it's just how I roll.

So, objectively, I'll be perfectly honest, it's got some problems. Most Supernatural episodes fall solidly into the "okay" category. This is not a bad thing, I feel like I need to stress that. What makes the show as a whole good are the stand out episodes that are truly great, and there are a sizable handful of them every season. When balanced against the couple of actually bad episodes scattered throughout the 15 year run, the scales tip solidly in favor of it being an overall really good show.

So, Scoobynatural... It's cute, it's fun, but a little, I don't know, awkward doesn't quite seem right. Maybe it just feels a little too obvious? Hmm, still not the right word... maybe superficial? I don't know, it just fails to obtain suspension of disbelief and one remains very aware of the mechanizations of it being a tv show. But whatever, you know, it's a ridiculous premise, we all know that. LOL. I'm not a fan of how Dean and Sam were drawn, I don't think they did them justice. I mean, look at my banner, they could have, SHOULD have looked more like the actual actors or just been cuter. But that's really all the complaints I had about the episode. So objectively, it's a good episode. Not great, but better than just okay, solidly good.

Subjectively, though? I loved it!

What I really enjoyed about it? One, I love that Dean is as much of a fan of the show as I am. We are close in age, and one of the ways that I'm dean-coded is in how I relate to tv and movies, so it's a point of connection I feel very deeply. I don't find his attraction to Daphne creepy, I actually get it. Not that I find Daphne attractive in that way, I always kinda wanted to be Daphne, so there's that whole reader self-insert aspect for me that just scratches a weird kink, you know? And the fact that she's completely hung up on Fred is so great.

I'm also totally onboard with Velma lusting after Sam. I really don't have an investment in any cartoon character's supposed sexuality. Is she straight? Bi? A lesbian? Sure, why not, whatever works best in the moment is 100% a-ok with me. And honestly I feel that Sam should be an exception regardless because he does have dreamily broad shoulders.

Also, if you just run with the episode, it's freakin' hilarious! The way it bounces between Dean's glee at being in the Scooby Doo universe and then dark, existential horror is just *chef's kiss* so good. When the first dead body is found and it's all bloody and the guy is really dead and Dean says, "Son of a bitch." That's good stuff right there.

Cas casually dropping the fact that he's likely married to a djinn queen is a golden overlooked moment tbh.

Dean clearly saying "Hail no" instead of "Hell no" when he realized he was touching the ghost instead of Daphne, like, Jensen, babe, your Texas is showing. LOL

Running montage!!! But fucking Scrappy Doo, grr.

The spiral the Scooby gang gets sent into when Shaggy's arm gets broken and they all realize that the horror is real? Have a breakdown and then bounce out of it again so fucking fast? That is the true brilliance in this episode, btw. I loved it!

The fact that Fred's crazy trap didn't work, because it was designed to catch something corporal, but Dean had a back up plan in place because he knew it wouldn't work but chose to not argue with Fred... so funny.

Sam: Ok, that was... something.

Dean: That was the coolest thing that's ever happened to me. And that includes the Cartwright twins.

Castiel: What did you do with the Cartwright twins?

Dean: Oh... *laughs*

Dean is a pervy little creep and I just love him, ok?

Like, yes, it is all utterly ridiculous, but that actually works because both shows were often ridiculous on their own. Mashed together, it just makes sense to lean into the crazy.

tldr - So, while not the best episode, honestly not really a great episode, but it is a good episode and I just love it.

hello! note-taking anon here! It's been a while. Ive been MIA for the last couple months, but have still been watching eps of the show. I dont recall where I was the last time i sent you an update, but I'm a couple eps into s15 now. I feel like i'm at the point where it feels like the concept of s15 is excellent. God being the narrator and the villian is a fantastic escalation and i'm really looking forward to seeing where that goes (right until they fumble it in the 11th hour). I also think the conflict thats existing between cas and dean about chuck's control over their lives is one of the best in the show. Neither of them are wrong--they just have different perspectives that cant coexist--and its so much more compelling than miscommunication or fetch quests. I'm hopeful we see more from sam, as the last few eps have been fairly quiet on his perspective of things. I know a few more of the story beats for s15, but im still in the dark about quite a few things. And, if theres any solace, buckleming still has just as horrible pacing and timing problems as ever, while simultaneously giving dean some of the most heartbreaking and raw lines in the show. Duality, i suppose.

OH HELLO! I'm glad you're still watching, and honestly relieved you already know where they drop the ball entirely, because yeah, the rest of s15 is incredible.

I love the conflict between Dean and Cas, because it's like Cas came to terms with his complete loss of faith in Chuck way back during the original apocalypse in s5. It even makes his failure to have a true reconciliation with Chuck in s11 make even more sense. I know a lot of folks were disappointed Cas never got to give Chuck a piece of his mind back in s11, and were angry that it was Metatron and Lucifer who seemed to get more of a reconciliation or at least acknowledgement of their grievances if not an apology from Chuck, but Chuck was never going to apologize. He wasn't going to "come around" and understand or see their point of view or truly apologize or change his behavior, you know? He's a universal constant. He created the universe, and he doesn't want it to change. He's mad that these puny humans won't do his will. Poor jerk :'D

But yeah, Dean had never had any reason to doubt his own free will. It was often the only thing he ever felt confident nobody could take from him-- including his GED and that six bucks he had that one time, you know? And unlike Cas who spent billions of years not even understanding free will at all before finally beginning to learn that maybe it was something he could have for himself, Dean had never known or believed that anything could have as much control over his life and choices.

Once Cas had fought for his identity, his free will, HIMSELF as he came to be, nobody-- not even Chuck-- could take that from him.

Dean's identity, himself, everything he is-- that had never been directly challenged. Not even when he was a demon. Not even when he was possessed by Michael. He still knew himself, believed himself, and always came through battered but intact with his own identity. Chuck... his s15 goal with Dean is to crush that belief in himself. To drive him to such lengths of desperation that he would be willing to sacrifice even what he loved to bring an end to the torment. In all of Supernatural, it was the ONE thing that Dean had never questioned or feared the loss of. Existential crisis ahoy.

And Cas just... couldn't understand it. This person he used as a role model in forming his own identity and free will... and Dean had been cut adrift from that certainty. And Dean couldn't understand how Cas could just be seemingly okay with all of that. It's a beautiful reconciliation, but it only gets partially resolved by the end of the series >.>

But at least you already knew that lol :'D

okay but jess was honestly the most realistic and normal teenage relationship rory had. dean was bordering on abusive and their relationship was too serious for their age. logan's entire existence is just unrealistic if we're being real (and this is coming from a lower middle class kid going to a rich people college). jess had major issues (adhd, avpd, and ptsd are just some of the possibilities) but when he was actually with rory he was just your average kinda nerdy 17 year old with a crush and to expect "reliability" from him is insane. I think my generation has been jaded to a point of no return because the idea that jess is anything but a kid who needs help is insane. he is not an adult who's supposed to make it on his own in the world. he's school should have supported him more and they should have called luke the second he got to 10 absences.

I also hear a lot of people call dean clingy and needy so I need to clarify that dean is neither of those things, he is obsessive. they way jess becomes attached to and partially dependent on rory might be clingy and needy but dean is NOT. he is far worse.

also can we talk about how sad it is that rory was probably the first person to make jess feel safe enough to just be a kid and not an adult

back to my point about school I saw someone say he would have been better off at a school like Chilton and honestly yeah. the work load would have kept him more engaged and private schools are notorious for actually caring about their students which you see clearly with Chilton. they would have called Luke after the first unexcused absence.

also he's issues don't excuse what happened at the party. obviously he had no intention on SAing her that's clear from how slow he is to approach kissing her so she has time so say no because his verbal communication sucks so much just asking makes him anxious. and on top of that he said she did nothing wrong and went after her to apologize once it clicked what was probably going through her head. but with that said he was a little pushing about it when she pushed him away but even he said he didn't even know what to think anymore (about anything going on with himself really). he raised his voice and snapped at her because he was frustrated with himself and that fact that she was pushing him to talk about what was going on when he didn't want to. does this give him the right to raise his voice at her? absolutely not but he was going to apologize so I assume he knew what he did wrong

anyway that scene is not as bad as it's made out to be and honestly it's one of those scenes that you need to look at with a early 2000s lense because it would have probably been interpreted completely different back then

also why didn't she want to bring him to her prom? like she brought dean to a dance a her school why not jess? he was less whiny about wearing a suit too so I can see him having more fun than dean and not getting in a fight with one of her classmates. also what tf was that "because I'll kill you" bs with Tristan like babe your 16 calm down cool it with the fake tough guy shit

I just watched the video the try guys released about ned and while Zachs very outward sadness and Keith's clear disappointment hurts, Eugene's sadness that he is masking as anger kills me. he may look absolutely furious but you can hear in his voice, especially towards the end, just how upset he is.
