buckle up, friends, because I somehow posted 98 gif sets this year and it's probably going to be 100 sets by the end of the year tbh. that number sounds so ridiculous. it's all your faults because part of the reason why I made so much was because I felt so encouraged and loved by the people I've gotten to know and know better this year, so thank you.

I started trying to put all the sets in a post and that just got overwhelming for me to look at so we're doing my top favorites with some fun statistics at the end. I think it'll come as no surprise that I mostly made rwrb and heartstopper sets this year, so I decided to do my top 5 rwrb sets, top 5 heartstopper sets, and top 10 miscellaneous sets.

top 5 rwrb sets

page to screen ripped pages: this is the first set I made after the movie was released. I worked on it for hours and really enjoy how it turned out. the text placement was what took the longest. I knew what words from each passage I wanted to highlight so it took some rearranging to make sure those were visible.

acd x all american bitch: the idea for this came about when casey posted an instagram story of GUTS and songs that correspond with their characters. I love me some bi coloring, so using that for this set was really fun!

firstprince x wildest dreams: I don't know what it is about this set that makes me love it so much. I think it's the shade of pink and then the light orange from the text.

henry "that is him, part and parcel": I adore henry and bea and that's all I have to say about this set.

firstprince x exile: I have thoroughly enjoyed reading the tags for this one and I am not sorry at all for the pain I have caused. I got the idea for this set after sending @kiwiana-writes the fake fic title "I gave so many signs" and they wrote a heartwrenching summary. I immediately wanted to do something with it!

top 5 heartstopper sets

moments of healing: day two of heartstoppercentral's pride celebration for this year. putting this together made me really emotional. I'm so grateful for alice and these moments of communication we get on the show.

imogen x ballad of a homeschooled girl: yes, I did intentionally use colors on the lesbian flag for this set. it was actually going to be purple at first to match the GUTS album but I didn't like how it looked. I tried pink, liked it, wondered what color worked with pink, and thus the color palette was born!

narlie x brighter than sunshine: day 3 of heartstoppercentral's pride celebration. as schitt's creek fans know (and as a couple people pointed out in the tags), this is the song that plays at the end of "Meet the Parents." I think I knew right away I was going to use this song for this day of the event.

narlie x fearless (taylor's version): I still can't believe I made this set. it's something just last year I would have deemed too complicated. I'm proud of myself for this one.

charlie standing up to ben: this set idea was suggested by @swiftlythebest. idk if this was intentional on alice's part, but I really enjoy how charlie says similar sentiments in both episodes. like "leave me alone" -> "I don't want to see you ever again."

top 10 miscellaneous sets

alexis rose + "destined to be on fire": I can't believe how much I've grown as a gif maker over the past three years and this set shows that growth. I also adore alexis and her journey.

david/patrick open mic: I made this set once I got back home from seeing noah in concert. I was truly close to tears during the concert when I realized I was watching him perform a song from a show I have loved for three years.

david/patrick relationship dynamic: @reasonandfaithinharmony @roseapothecary and @rmd-writes are to thank for this set coming into existence. the fact that I had so many scenes to choose from shows that this truly is david and patrick's dynamic.

schitt's creek + barbie posters: I knew right away what kind of barbie david and alexis were going to be.

GUTS + favorite lyrics: god I really love this set. the typography? the coloring? I really outdid myself.

the good witch + ages: another set I just absolutely adore. I love the shades of pink I used. also, maisie, thank you for including consecutive years in the album because it really would have bugged me if they weren't lol

danandphilgames + fuck land: my url becomes relevant again! if you told me at the start of this year that the gaming channel would be back, I would not have believed you.

calliette x love affair: I really love the overlays for this one. it just ended up working well on its own with little manipulation from me. the song is from the end of the last episode. it worked great for the antagonists event!

ellie x you're on your own, kid: I had this idea for a few weeks before I actually got around to making it. I remember being worried and surprised that no one else that I saw did a set with this song.

vampire by olivia rodrigo: the lyric "bloodsucker, fame fucker" really did something to me.

I'm working on some concept art for my Pre-Mother 3 theory right now and I'm getting a little bored, so here's some mother 3 headcanons.

(Spoiler warning!) (Also major Duster favoritism)

Lucas

Terrible at socializing, but still loved for being able to listen.

Unintentionally sneaky. That one kid who's always lurking around.

Smells like cinnamon toast crunch.

Sees Claus in Kumatora.

Something about Duster reminds him of Hinawa. Gets very sentimental whenever he hugs him.

Swears very, very rarely. Someone or something is in a massive amount of danger when he does.

People mistake him for being emotionless when in reality he bottles everything up. When he does finally open the bottle he becomes a massive mess. (Note: Self projection (●'◡'●))

Cleans to distract himself.

Once recieved a comic book from a tourist. Was fascinated by it for a short while but threw it away the same day he got it.

Much stronger than he looks. Taking care of sheep has strengthened him significantly.

Has conflicted feelings about his dad.

Worries if he too will start to bald when he gets older.

Kumatora

I feel like if she was real she'd be into gyaru fashion.

Enjoys doing excessive makeup as a hobby but would only wear eyeliner at max regularly.

Absolutely despised her time working at Club Titiboo but became close friends with the other waitresses. Had considered using her paychecks for a phone to communicate with them once she left.

Got the color of her hair from all the years of PSI training with Ionia. Originally brown-haired.

Was a massive scaredy-cat through the ages of 6 to 9.

Duster

Was surprisingly hot-headed as a kid. Mellowed out as he aged.

Used to have longer hair as a kid but cut most of it off as it interfered with training. Has thought about regrowing it.

His receding hairline is due to stress. After he joined DCMC it started to (slowly) grow back (With the help of some borrowed hair products).

Is clairvoyant in a non-PSI way. Gave Lucas the mini-mini charm before he embarked for Osohe as he knew the kid would be lonely from then on.

Is in a hidden poly relationship with the rest of the band.

Takes care of his afro wig better than he does his actual hair.

He actually wrote lyrics for many of DCMC's songs. A majority of them went unused.

Thinks of Lucas as his legacy and as such never plans on having kids.

Was the one who named Kumatora. Because he was a preteen at the time, he gave her the wildest name he could think of.

Gets frequent nightmares of his pre-white ship days, but completely forgets about them the moment he wakes up.

Is covered head-to-toe in scars and calluses.

Is deemed the most attractive out of the DCMC members. He's heavily against having the title.

Gets incredibly dangerous when drunk (Yor Forger-style drunkard).

Ate ants once because he was tricked into thinking they tasted like cherries.

Was absolutely feral as a teenager. People would only come across him if they were out foraging in the forest.

Many children label him as a Tazmily cryptid. Multiple supernatural rumours about him exist.

Boney

Imagines itself as the twins' third sibling instead of a pet.

Missed Flint the most out of everyone.

A very good dog.

On another note, you are completely welcome to call me crazy but I think Splatoon is a potential continuation of the Mother series timeline. I'll probably write a ridiculously long theory on this later but for now I'll leave it at that.

History

Elliot grew up entirely average. Greatness wasn't in store for the middle Weaver child. His older brother was a football star and his younger sister was a pageant queen and as a result his parents attention was usually used up in pursuing his siblings dreams. Elliot never minded much. His nose was typically buried in a book as he was dragged along for support to his siblings endeavors. As he grew up the more Eli branched out on his own. He found himself friends with the band geeks and nerds more than the popular crowd his family was drawn to. He was never prom royalty but he also never wanted to be and he was entirely content. He had a girlfriend whom he loved and friends who he could depend on, what more could he ask for? When Elliot graduated high school he decided to stick around in Amarillo. The town might be small but it was his home and after a few years at the local community college he got a job in auto insurance. He was still with the same girl from high school who he proposed to at the age of twenty-six after being together for ten years. Life was good for Eli and he saw his whole future ahead of. Marriage, a couple of kids running around, and a small house he'd call home, maybe even a white picket fence. All of that changed one fateful afternoon in August of 2023. Elliot came home on his lunch break only to catch his fiance with another man. He was heartbroken and the simple life he'd had planned for himself was ruined. The engagement was off then and there and Eli quickly spun downward.  Life had gone to shit. His fiance moved out (and in with the guy she'd been cheating with) and Elliot spent most nights drinking and wallowing in self pity. Things couldn't have gotten any worse and miraculous it didn't. Almost two months after his break up Elliot's life would change again. He was never much of a gambler but one night when buying cigarettes he decided to purchase a lottery ticket from the gas station. Never in Eli's wildest dreams did he expect to actually win but he did. 16.8 million dollars to be exact. His life changed overnight once again. His achievement became the biggest story to hit Amarillo history in the last 20 years and it seemed everyone who'd ever known Elliot was coming out of the woodwork including his ex.  Everyone put a bad taste in his mouth and after he'd been coerced into giving away nearly a million dollars to various different people in a very short period of time Elliot went into hiding. He could no longer trust the people closest to him as they all seemed to turn green with envy or fat with greed. His new found wealth made him incredibly lonely and forced him to outgrow his town he'd once called home. Instead Elliot decided to travel until he figured out where he wanted to call home next. That was how he wound up in New York, he'd always wanted to visit the city. He's not sure how long he'll be stick around for but he figured since he had the means to rent an apartment he might as well even if his stay is only temporary until his life calms back down.

Headcanons

Elliot's life is a mess. He's still recovering from his recent breakup over the summer and now that he's a millionaire he really doesn't know how to act. One minute he's celebrating and the next he's crying because his Spotify Wrapped playlist reminds him of home.

He is the embodiment of the meme "If I ever win the lottery I won't tell anybody but there will be signs". He doesn't boast about his wealth but he's definitely treating himself and is very generous with his money. He has been known to give 50% to 100% tips at businesses around town.

He's stopped doing laundry all together. Now he simply donates his clothes and buys new ones when he needs them. Laundry has always been his least favorite chore and now that he doesn't have to clean his clothes he won't.

He spontaneously drops twenty dollar bills around just to brighten people's days.

There's always a pile of packages waiting for him at his mailbox. Half the time he doesn't know what he's ordered because he's developed a late night spending habit whenever he can't sleep.

Even though he's been in the city for a few months now he still isn't the best at navigating around. He'll often call an Uber if he has to go somewhere that isn't a couple of blocks from his apartment. He is however always exploring and hitting up all the major tourist attractions New York has to offer.

🥺 Is there a certain type of moment or common interaction between your characters that never fails to put you in your feels?

Oh, yes. This is THAT moment when one character is in danger and another one just is so lost in emotions and feelings. It works for me both in canon and in my writing. I think, that situations like these open up what REALLY a character feels and thinks because this is the question of life and death.

🎢 Which of your fics would you call your wildest ride?

It's definitely "Bury Me in the Shadows of Spring" because the plot here is emotional damage ™. It's so dense with feelings, so sometimes when I reread my plot outline, I feel like my heart is broken.

🛒 What are some common things you incorporate in your fics? Themes, feels, scenes, imagery, etc.

I already answered it here, so I'm just referring to this answer :)

💖 What made you start writing?

Oh… I guess, my love for literature in general. I wrote some "original" stuff a long time ago when I was 11–15 years old, and I was really engaged in the process, of how the only power of words building the whole world! Then, I even wrote a whole "original" story when I was 18, it has like…~200k words? (I never published it and never will). It has two parallel plot-lines, one is the diary that describes the events of the past, and the second one is the present. Two lines collide when the "present" one finds the diary, and the mystery of their world becomes larger and larger, heh. The diary line due to some event has no stars and the "endless" night, so it has a lot of reference to the constellations and stars. It's actually called "Through the corridors of stars" (yeah, I love pathetic titles...) But after that, I didn't write anything. When I opened the world of fan fiction back in 2020, all these years I had a will to start writing again, but this time publish it. It took me 2,5 years to overcome the fear and the stupid uncertainty to start writing in English, so here I am!

🦅 Do you outline fics or fly by the seat of your pants?

Oh, always outline! Before starting BMSS I wrote a whole separate doc with each chapter and key events. Also, I marked some specific details for the chapter structure as Annie's chapters are colorful, it always has a lot of references to the art itself + the title of her chapters is the actual painting title, and the whole chapter in Annie's POV is built around this canvas. In Armin's we have a more lyrical, wordy style, he has more inner reflections. Their mutual POVs chapters have their titles mixed, and so are the styles of their narration :)

As for one-shot, it goes the same way. Key points, some key topics (as I like to choose a few leading topics and to look at them from different angles and POVs).

I always agree about Annie being the one who is struggling to show her feelings properly, but for the same reason, I find her the one who can be incredibly soft once she is certain nobody would hurt her. And also I feel like she is emotionally deprived, so once she learned not only to be the receiver of attention and affection, but also a giver…oh my, this girl will shower you with all these adorable things, but SMALL once, It's not big romantic dates, but mundane and ORDINARY things that, maybe, are even more precious.

Hi Poggy, could you tell us a bit about yourself? Where are you in the world and how are you spending your summer so far?

Hello hello I’m a filipino illustrator. I live up in the Appalachian Mountains, so I’ve been spending my summers enjoying the breezy mountain weather. I’ve been getting into gardening so if I’m not on the computer I’m probably in my garden hanging out with the bugs and slugs.

Why do you love frogs so much? We love frogs too.

Frogs are squishy little boops that vibe in the woods. What’s not to love about them. Frogs are both cozy yet chaotic creatures. They are also SO TINY, and I love smol things. The feeling of being so small in a big world is something I relate to on a visceral level.

Tell us a little bit about the room template that you made!

Content creation is a marathon that never ends. You are constantly performing nonstop creating content and burn out is inevitable. It’s a constant mental gymnastics to keep your head above water. It’s very easy to get wrapped up in the numbers and the metrics of how well a posts is performing. It becomes unhealthy and toxic to base your artistic self worth to a like button.

What inspires you? Who are some of your favorite artists online right now?

The idea that right now in 2022 you have access to so many creative tools to make any idea a reality is what truly inspires me. A decade ago, it was much harder to get into art or animation. There’s so many tutorials online and so many resources to start your own creative project.

Do you find inspiration from being online? Where are some of your favorite places to spend time online?

Being online unlocks a ton of possibilities. You can make a podcast, an indie game, a YouTube channel, a silly Tiktok, or others. I love the idea that you get to create and make whatever you want and share it with so many people. I have found a lot of likeminded friends through the internet.

I’ve been really into live streaming lately so I love playing video games with others. I also like hanging out in virtual chat spaces to concentrate and focus while drawing. My favorites have been watching anime episodes with friends on here.fm and other platforms.

Do you have a story of a meaningful creative or personal friendship in your life?

One of my closest friends I met in college Hats (@humblefeels) has been my creative rock. No matter how many ridiculous crafty ideas I have she has always supported me. I come up with a TON of ideas, too many ideas, ideas on top of ideas. It can definitely exhaust my friends who hear me nonstop chatter about my infinite amount of obsessions. Hats is the best and listens and encourages all my wildest art ideas.

What are some books or movies that inspire you? How did said book or movie influence your work or how you think about your creative work?

There hasn’t been a specific movie or book that has impacted my art. Video games have greatly influenced my art a lot. I play a lot of cozy games most notably Animal Crossing New Horizon. It’s such a wholesome game that lets me be creative without touching my pencil. It has influenced my art in more ways than I can imagine. I found so many creative friends through playing Animal Crossing. I love building worlds and making up fantasy landscapes and animal crossing definitely lets your imagination run wild.

What are you some of the things that you are working on that you’re excited about right now?

I am really close to launching a shop update for POGPALS.COM! I have a lot of new art prints that are in the works and I’m getting into apparel designs. It’s been a dream of mine to put my little froggy on a hoodie or shirt.

It is in his nature to take the more dramatic route, to spread a little dissent and drama wherever he goes, but he more and more often notices how this negative energy influences you. Where before he would start fights left and right without a single thought, these days he more and more often finds himself stopping to think before acting. That doesn't mean that he will completely change his ways as he still is a demon, but in the end, you wouldn't have it any other way.

Given the sheer volume of fic I've written in the past few years, that's tricky to answer. Partially because I've straight up forgotten 80% of what I've written, but also because there have been several favorites.

You know, I don't think I actually have terribly many "out there" headcanons, partially because I don't spend much time thinking about them.

Most of my headcanons, as a result, are fairly mundane or things aren't headcanons but I leverage them more frequently than typically seen in fic and fanon.

Uh, I'll pick one at random (forgive me): sensing EM fields is actually not normal for Cybertronians (as per canon) but that Drift can, as a subtle outlier ability, experiencing them as "auras." It would also support his easy draw to spectralism, which (from what little we know of it) sees color as a conduit for the sacred.

I'd actually like to do more with it. I mostly used this in The Hollow Man to enhance the effects of the horror, but I also used it subtly in The Unlucky Marriage of Drift & Ratchet if I remember correctly.

Week 4: What does it mean to be Argentine?

Yesterday in my Sport and Culture in Contemporary Argentina class, my professor, Eduardo, asked us to think about one word that describes Argentinians. After spending a month in Buenos Aires, my first thought was "passion", as I have first-hand witnessed the intensity of daily life here. However, after some more debate and consideration, I finalized my answer to be expressive." In all aspects of life, Argentines are not afraid to express themselves, and I have especially noticed this utter resolve to be true to themselves this week throughout my adventures in Buenos Aires.

To start off the week, our program took us on a day-trip to the esteemed city of Tigre, just an hour by train away from the capital. We took a lovely boat tour around the delta, learning about the simple and eco-friendly way of living of the residents, before heading to a restaurant off the shore for lunch. It was admirable to witness the dedication in the humble lifestyle. Everything these residents of Tigre would ever need can be found somewhere on a boat! My favorite part of this trip, though, was visiting the local artisan market. It was heartwarming to see how the hard-work of the artists can create such a beautiful community. Each vendor was so passionate about their own products and ideas, and through art they are able to display their creativity. I bought a crochet top from the sweetest lady, and she said that she and her daughter hand-make each item! She also made sure to emphasize how talented her daughter was.

Later on in the week, I finally made the quick trip to the infamous Bond Street, a hidden gem filled with color and edge. I have never seen so many tattoo parlors in one area, and it was so exciting to see the artists perform their work through the windows. Two of my friends even chose to be canvases themselves, getting a tattoo to commemorate their time in Argentina. There were also so many different clothing stores, ranging from those that only sold vintage streetwear to stores that resemble an exponentially more intense Hot Topic. Bond Street is such a safe space for Argentines to completely be themselves, and it was a really refreshing scene as compared to the overall elegance and organization in the day lit streets of Buenos Aires.

Argentine expressiveness is not always in a pleasant, creative way, though. After being recommended by multiple different people, my friends and I finally booked a reservation at the renowned Uptown and The Bronx. Its savvy interior and innovative subway train entrance won me over before I even sat down at the table, but I fell in love the moment I had a bite of the bbq ribs. The food was outrageously good, and the ambiance was indescribable. However, our meal was soon interrupted by the neighboring table, where a couple was fighting vehemently. The police even had to get involved, dragging the couple outside of the restaurant. I have never seen such a blatantly expressive argument in a public area, and while I don't know the details of the situation, it was very interesting to witness such passion and vigor.

I can't talk about the meaning of being Argentine without describing my experience with the passion and expressiveness in being an hincha and through mate. As a class field trip, we visited La Boca, one of the most famous neighborhoods. Home to the Boca Juniors and the wildest fan base in the world (in my opinion), La Boca was an unforgettable experience. The streets were filled with blue and yellow, the colors of Boca Juniors, both on the walls of buildings and the clothing of its residents. The outside of La Bombonera, the Boca Juniors stadium, was continuously crowded with fans. My professor told me that most of the people there were residents who visit the stadium every day, expressing their undying love for the club. Every single Argentine is able to express their passion for their unofficial religion, futbol, by supporting their favorite club, and they are never afraid to go all out.

Another key component of Argentina is mate, the unofficial national drink. We were able to go to a mate tasting and making event, where I got to experiment with different herbs and ingredients to concoct my perfect tea. Mate is incredibly important to the culture of Argentina, as it connects every single person into one community. Messi drinks mate; those living in the streets drink mate; the Pope drinks mate.

There is no single activity that unites the expressive will of Argentines more than drinking mate and futbol, and it was such an amazing cultural experience to witness.

(even when he's talking to jamie at the end of 'biscuits' his Look is following the same formula; it feels different because his hair is pulled back in a bun, but it's the same blazer + button-down + tie + white sneakers combo.) some of these looks are more formal than others, but there's still an air of professionalism to it. trent is very well-curated, including and especially in the styling of his hair.

it's not a relief that he doesn't have to try so hard-- the lack of effort proves that he doesn't want to try so hard. he's tired of wearing the same brown jacket and the same red tie (do either of them make an appearance in s2 at all?), he's tired of styling his hair the same way, he's tired of doing the same job and writing the same articles day in and day out. it's no surprise that he's at his most engaged and his most hungry in 'do the rightest thing,' when he's got something to write about other than g-ddamn football. he's looking for something deeper; he gets a taste of it when sam says "I'm not here to talk about football, I'm here to talk about corruption." clothing-wise, this is one of the most Proper outfits we see him wear in s2: he's wearing a button-down and a tie, yes, but it's all black, it all blends together, you can barely see them. it's a far cry from the brightness and contrast of the orange-brown blazer + steely blue shirt + red tie he's so fond of in s1. that's an outfit that draws the eye, that wants to be noticed; this isn't. his hair in 'do the rightest thing' is also the wildest we ever see it-- it's parted on the opposite side, it's frizzy, it's tucked behind his ears. he's trying here to recapture what he had before, but he's doing it all wrong. he's trying to care the same way he did before, and he can't.

trent deconstructs his own image further and further as the show progresses, such that the final time we see him he's wearing leopard-print shoes instead of his signature white converse (I am obsessed w the leopard-print loafers, btw. the ted lasso wardrobe department really reached into my throat and pulled out my gender on this one) and his hair is barely styled, if he's even touched it at all. he looks free. his whole demeanor is lighter, happier, warmer than we've ever seen it before. he'd spent so long building up his reputation, his persona, his image as a sharp, vicious, put-together bitch of a journalist, and as the series goes on it becomes clearer and clearer that he just doesn't want that anymore. he doesn't want to be that guy and he doesn't want to look like that guy.

so he stops being that guy. he stops wearing that guy's ties. he stops doing that guy's job. he stops styling that guy's hair.

and now he gets to decide what guy he does want to be, and in s3 we'll see what that guy does with his hair.
