hi! i wrote an essay about rosy ronkey and her clothes, and i hypothesized what time period i think shes from/inspired by ^^ below if you wanna read more :))

ive been fixated (or had a special interest or whatever you want to call it) on rosy ronkey for a YEAR today. i've always been pretty interested in her outfit from an aesthetically pleasing point of view, but recently i wanted to see if i could find any trends and time periods in the inspirations of her clothes, which is what this essay is about! it’s going to be an explanation of most of her clothes, top to bottom, from what i can assume with the research i've done. i say research, but i probably don’t have the best sources? they’ll be linked below, but it was really more cross-referencing than anything else lol

i reached out to annie montgomerie for comment/criticism, but she’s obviously very busy and i enjoyed my research from a subjective point of view :)

basic specs on rosy (no one else but me cares): looking at rosy, the only zoomorphic, or animal looking, aspect of hers is her head. judging by proportions and cross-referencing, she looks to have the body of an american girl doll. this is just what i’ve noticed, but annie’s most recent stuff is way less anthropomorphized compared to rosy and the group she was made with. looking at annie’s most recent exhibit, hand me downs, every single piece is completely animal, with hand-sculpted claws, paws, wings and hooves. some of these dolls legs still look like american girl doll legs, but most everything else is animalistic. this isn’t important, but i just thought id mention it because artists’ growth over time is cool!

starting with her coat, it looks like a double-breasted red childrens’ coat with two rows of two buttons each. these kinds of coats are still available today, but i could find the closest matches by looking at 1920s childrens’ coats, specifically rothschild coats. the rothschild family has a long and complicated history, but all that’s important to know is that they are new york based (which doesn’t totally fit my assumptions about her; in general i assume all of annie montgomerie’s dolls are british because of her nationality) and they’ve been in business for over 100 years. by cross-referencing the growing style of double-breasted coats in the 1920s, and the style of rothschild childrens’ coats in ads from the time, i feel like it’s easy to assume rosy's character has this coat, or at least was very heavily inspired by it.

a theory i’ve seen before is that the ticket on her coat is a luggage label. these were used during WWII to evacuate british children during the blitz. the history press site says luggage labels listed “name, school and evacuation authority,” and is also where i got most of my information. i want to tentatively deny this theory. i'm pretty sure the ticket is an annie montgomerie staple opposed to a part of rosys' character. she's shown with the tag in the yorkshire sculpture park video, and on gerard way’s website, but she’s missing it in all the photos posted by annie montgomerie herself on facebook and instagram. almost every single annie montgomerie piece on display or for sale has a tag as well. i love this theory, and it’s probably what got me interested in researching her outfit in the first place, but i don’t think i could prove it if i tried.

other than the ticket, she has white roses on the left side of her coat and some smaller twigs? sticks? pinned to her collar. white roses symbolize purity, youthfulness, innocence, and in some contexts, respect for the departed. i couldn’t find any historical photos of children with roses in their outfits, but across the board that was the result i got for their meaning. i can’t discern what she has on her right collar for the life of me, if someone else can figure this out, PLEASE tell me

her dress is pink, with a cinched embroidered waist and a peter pan collar. peter pan collars became popular in the 1920s, and have been a staple of childrens’ dresses since (sources for this one were a few blogs and wikipedia, but also some ads, so i feel pretty confident with it.) some ads for girls’ dresses in the 1920s had the same soft pleats and embroidered waist as seen on rosys’ dress. i don’t think there’s a meaning behind the color, except that it compliments the red coat and her fur.

her stockings are standard, I couldn’t find much special meaning behind them, british children have been wearing stockings forever, and for girls especially, stockings became more popular in the 1920s as dresses got shorter. usually they were sheer and nude, and rosys’ look like the gray kind kids wear today, but i think it’s still period appropriate to an extent. her shoes look like red mary janes for american girl dolls, just more scuffed and dirtied. mary jane shoes themselves have been around for a while (called “bar shoes” originally,) but they got their name in 1904. in one of the first drafts for this, i read the fairy tale “the red shoes” to see if it offered any insight. i thought it’d be fun to relate, but it’s just a popular danish fairy tale, and it was hard for me to entertain the idea for long.

TLDR: i think rosy ronkeys outfit is inspired by british 1920s fashion!

sometimes when i write emotions i feel like as a reader you can look at it and go "oh okay. i know that feeling" which is awesome

i am in love with run on sentences. "no its just a stream of consciouness writing style" baby you just wrote something that's mostly just em dashes and semicolons and parenthesis. also i don't know how to describe stuff so thank god for the internet bc i link outfits like my life depends on it. ive always struggled w writing locations too. and ive been wanting to get better at writing bits

18) Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic?

i tried doing this with a mags fanfic i wrote bc i hc that d4 spoke spanish before the first war. there is literally only one sentence in spanish though bc i knew for a fact the phrasing was correct (at least in a casual, conversational setting) but i do think it's really cool when people write d4 characters having entire convos in spanish even though im not confident enough in my langauge skills to do it myself. also i just don't think d4 would know how to speak spanish in canon times, prob just affectionate terms like mija/o or mano or chula. like stuff that doesn't rlly affect how the capitol understands them. i get into this in the fic, but i think even by mags’ generation spanish would stop being a common language in d4. like i love the sentiment of her carrying a piece of that w her but i don’t think the capitol would let them get away with that and it’s also Not Easy to remember how to speak a language you only learned as a child and then never used for the rest of ur life, which is what i imagined happened with her + her gen. like. me and my siblings only know english bc the moment my dad moved here he was like “okay. English Time” and that stemmed from the pressure to assimilate can you imagine if the actual law got involved. anyway this answer got long but i have a lot of thoughts about this sorta stuff, esp in d4

OK I WAS THINKING WDTFD TOO IT IS CRIMINALLY UNDERRATED AND ive literally been spending more time than necessary trying to figure out why, because I would argue it is one of your best and one of the most unique out there in general. You can ignore me if you want but I have a Theory (gonna mark myself with this emoji ⚡️ so you know it’s me)

this is... an absolutely fascinating theory XD i have no clue, to be honest, and always just put it down to 1) being a busy time of year (tho thematically appropriate) when maybe people weren't reading a lot of fic then so it never got that established, and 2) me going dark for a month afterwards while i worked on my novel, resulting in less content to bump me up in the ao3 tag (or on people's dashboards) that might make people check what i'd just done, or help them notice they missed a fic right before it (i have people comment on a new fic all the time being like "OH SHIT i missed the last one, time to binge!").

its interesting to get an outside perspective, because for me personally i notice jumps in interaction around a few fics (knifepoint for example) but i never really attributed a spike to BFM. i was really shocked when i recently saw beg for me was ranked 24th in hit count for she-ra fics (its worth noting that both slas and asdlm rank higher than it, but i also remember lots of engagement with both of those - especially asdlm, there was so much fanart). i dont remember a lot about what was going on when i was writing bfm, so i just assumed it... wasnt a lot XD but apparently it left an impression.

(actually, i did just remember i had anon off while writing BFM because i didnt want people getting Too Horny and crossing into creepy, and that probably had a big effect on the interaction i got and my perception of it)

as far as the smut thing... honestly, no clue, although you might be onto something with vampires being generally slutty (and rightfully so) and WDtFD being lore-focused. i feel like im reluctant to say fics without smut dont do as well, but i think that it might be true and i just dont want to acknowledge it XD i do think that, as far as rating goes, T and E do better than M because... if you dont want smut, you go T, and if you want it, you go E, you know? M is this middle ground i enjoy, but people tend not to be on middle ground with smut XD

i have no clue, but it was fun reading theories, and thank you for the enthusiasm for a fic i really love! to be honest i think if i wrote it a year before it might have been smuttier.... but the idea was also a year old and never had anything but that one scene in it, even if that scene was originally a bit more explicit, so idk. i do tend to go in cycles and whatever i did after beg for me needed to be smut-light because writing beg for me took a lot of time/energy XD see lotd following knifepoint, as well

i really loved crafting a lore fic, i had a whole outline where i tracked what had been hinted at and in what ways, what had been revealed so far, what i still needed to foreshadow/explain, etc, because there was so much stuff i wanted to imply and then reveal, and im realllllly happy with the finished product, so thank you for the love! <3

My name is Casey but you can also call me Charm. He/him And She/her pronouns (no preference for if you use one more than the other or anything). I’m bigender, 20, and autism about ponies! This is my dedicated pony blog, my main is @charmanderxerneas . I post pony art, photos of ponies ive cleaned/restored, and just general pony content.

My top three favorite g1 ponies are baby chuck e cheese pony, fizzy, and sundance 💖. My favorite g3 pony is Minty and my favorite g4 is pinkie pie. For g2 I really like sundance (again lol). and i havent seen anything from g5 so i cant comment about that haha.

I tag every pony’s name and generation. I tag other peoples content with “others photos” and “others art”. I tag my own content with “my photos” and “my art”.

Speaking of art, I have drawing requests for g1 ponies open! You can message me about it on this blog or my main blog. My goal is to draw EVERY pony from g1 (other generations may be a goal in the future, but this year i am focusing on g1.)

I also do polls every week for “which pony of (insert a set here) is your favorite?”. Because I have gotten some messages about it, I will say now that I’m not taking requests for these. laundry list of grievances of cdrama and/or danmei fandom

lets start with the obvious. the sheer amount of babying going on with characters, especially male characters. no theyre grown adults they arent your baby or your cinnamon roll or your son or smth. there's literally such a history of infantilizing chinese people to dehumanize them and yet all of you keep feeding into that.

also usually in tandem with that - the excessive horniness/oversexualisation of characters. it's genuinely like some of you haven't found a chinese person attractive before and suddenly need to prove that you're not racist because you're attracted to them, leading to the horniest tags on content. i promise i don't need to see that. doubly worse if its done in the same breath as calling them a baby.

the white lens that's applied to these works. whether its comparing cultivators to nobles/ aristocracy or calling cdrama characters elves because of what? historical clothing choices? long hair? sorry to break it to you tolkien didn't invent that. also the misinterpretation of culture and cultural norms and/or deciding to strip away context for your own (usually very white) interpretation. notable examples: modern aus where they've clearly never spoken to a chinese person in their life or the take where jin guangyao an honourary girlboss or saying huaisang is gnc

the forcing of gender roles onto mlm (calling one of them 'the woman/wife') and by extension forcing them into 'tops' or 'bottoms' based on that...like the more `feminized' one is the `bottom:.. and refusing to criticize the source material when it does that and continuing to feed into it

ive mentioned this before but the way theres literally such awful takes on censorship. yes there's something to say about how cdramas being censored means the most egregious fetishy stuff can't make it in, but saying stuff 'censorship fixed it' just shows you've forgotten Why censorship is there. in addition to that, the amount of jokes on 'can't believe this made it past censorship haha' why are you making light of homophobia.

a point brought up by an anon: "being convinced that criticism towards the heteronormativity/hypersexulisation in danmei is a "western" take, therefore it can't be criticised because its chinese media and somehow it makes the issues okay" I want to further comment on this with like...people saying that you're racist for criticizing authors like mxtx or priest because you're `refusing to engage with an asian author's text' please for the love of god give us more credit give asian people more credit it's so incredibly rude to say that asian people don't criticize awful parts of these works.

in addition to that, whenever the texts are criticized in general the defence of 'people are allowed to write unpleasant things/characters' is constantly brought up. however. when these characters are meant to be the main pairing/love interest that the reader is supposed to root for can it truly be said that they're just 'exploring the dynamic'. like pls this is clearly a genre that fetishizes mlm in particular already

when white people designate me (or my friends) as the Token Person Of Colour and like ask permission to do things. hello i (nor any other person) am not able to tell you if you can call an easian man 'a baby' i cannot decide that for you. furthermore i cannot decide that on behalf of every single chinese person

this series is one of the most ambitious projects ive made, and by ambitious i mostly just mean longest with a core idea! i'm very very happy with how it turned out, and i think it represents a pretty solid step forward in my journey as an artist exploring people and their relationships. i'm really happy so many people liked seeing something long-form, and i definitely want to do more projects like this in the future (one possibly in the works rn!) [commentary under cut]

now that the part my teacher would want me to write is done, hi :) i was very nervous to post parts of this because its kind of the first time im really putting my interpretations of characters' inner workings and motivations Out There in art, and i was worried people would disagree. pretty pleasantly surprised though! these segments all started as one dialogue just for tommy, until i realized that a large portion of the ideas i had put down mostly just because they sounded cool, and not because they were that fitting to the character. i set it down, and worked on other stuff in the meantime, and when i came back i had a much better grasp on the characters and just improved writing in general. i split it into pieces and edited and reworked it on and off over the course of a few weeks - although, that makes it sound a lot more intensive than it was.

i really tried to establish a mood with these ones. i mean, i do that with almost every other comic i make like these - i love long pauses, when words just hang in the air, and i think it's a really interesting and challenging endeavour to translate that into 2d art - but i really think i got it with these. there was a specific tag on the wilbur piece that commented on that stillness that warmed my heart!! its great knowing what i tried came across.

i don't really know what the point of writing this was, to be honest! this has just been a project i was very passionate about and i didn't want to just let it die out when they finished posting.

i also want to say that i got major inspiration for the interview format from floralmarsupial's beta kids (homestuck) dream series from several years ago. if hs is your thing and you somehow don't know about their work, i seriously urge you to check it out, it's very cool!

im rewatching criminal minds from the beginning and capping every episode as i go along. ive seen rewatched every cm season at least 3 times, and this blog is mostly to avoid sending my friends the same clips with the same comments every time i watch lol. its just all of my thoughts and ramblings for my favorite moments

im 22 and i try to avoid interacting with/following minors. asks are fine, just no dms. my main is @aarcn but this is where everything cm related is. i’m not into x reader fic, especially the explicit stuff, so if you post a lot of that i probably won’t follow you back. and if i unfollow all of a sudden, its probably because of that. nothing personal! i just dont really want to see it.

theres other blogs too! aja and atlas are great too but i cant rmr their @ right this second rip but theyre hilarious. like this is a small community of people and im bad with names but theres a lot of folks in my comments and replies and reblogs, some who i dont follow because im not quite into their content, or theyre too young for me to feel okay doing so, who are so lovely and still favourites of mine!!

366,990, yikes!

3. How many fandoms have you written for and what are they?

Uhm...let’s count. Star Trek: The Next Generation when I was 10 (and I have another one for that fandom in the works). X-men in middle school. Xena: Warrior Princess, The Scarlet Pimpernel, Star Wars (Original Trilogy stuff), Star Wars: Rebels, and Castlevania. That’s seven, I guess?

4. What are your top five fics by kudos?

Predictably: Close Only Counts (600) (earlyish kanera) En Route (541) (Han/Leia) Next Season (503) (Hera-centric, post-Rebels) Lean (407) (Ghost crew) Continued (297) (Rebels fix-it fic)

5. Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?

The only reason I write is to talk about these fandoms with people, so yes, and I am not above begging for comments (that was the question, right?). If I haven’t responded to yours it’s because I’ve overlooked it in the day-to-day, and you should poke me and tell me so!

6. What’s the fic you’ve written with the angstiest ending?

Probably The First Night, which was written in the aftermath of “Jedi Night,” before the series even ended. Most of my stories have plenty of angst in the middle, but little at the end.

7. Do you write crossovers? If so what’s the craziest one you’ve written?

I have not written crossovers. Hyperfixation does not allow me to think of more than one fandom at the same time.

8. Have you ever received hate on a fic?

No, which I take as a testament to how lovely the Rebels fandom is.

9. Do you write smut? If so what kind?

Ahahaha! I mean...in my defense... not ALL my stories are smut.

10. Have you ever had a fic stolen?

Nope.

I don’t think so. Guys? No, right?

12. Have you ever co-written a fic before?

Not for A03, but the childhood fanfics were ALL co-written. We had these spiral notebooks we’d carry around and pass off to each other in the halls between classes. Ah, middle school. I also lived that roleplaying life for many years, though I’m not counting those as stories.

13. What’s your all-time favorite ship?

kanera, oh you came and you gave without taking... Runners-up: Trevor and Sypha (Castlevania) John and Aeryn (Farscape) (though I don’t write them because I’m not sure fanfiction can improve upon the show, which is already...pretty much fanfiction)

14. What’s a wip that you want to finish but don’t think you ever will?

Uhm... I think I will finish all of my works in progress eventually, barring unforeseen disaster. None of them feels abandoned. I would most like to get working on Fault Lines (the big Castlevania fic that’s barely started), and I have a gorgeous Picard story that I wrote 4,000 words for in three hours and then haven’t had a chance to go back to again.

15. What are your writing strengths?

characterization and dialogue, I think. Probably smut? I’m not sure that’s something to brag about.

16. What are your writing weaknesses?

Plot? What plot? Also pacing/phrasing at the sentence level, which is sometimes okay but sometimes wonky.

17. What are your thoughts on writing dialogue in other languages in a fic?

I say if it feels good, do it.

18. What was the first fandom you wrote for?

Probably Star Trek: The Next Generation, in terms of things that I actually wrote down.

19. What’s your favorite fic you’ve written?

I don’t knooooow! Uhm... Next Season is not my best writing (it was written at breakneck speed and needs a heavy edit), but it really hits the spot sometimes. Feels real. (Side note, after I dedicated a story to my husband to troll him one time, my son said, “Hey! Would you ever write a story for me?” and my husband told him, “Buddy, Mommy wrote 40,000 words for you.” He doesn’t get to SEE this story, of course.) We also lost multiple men in our family to suicide, unexpectedly and horrifically, just before I wrote this story. It exploded everybody’s sense of reality in some ways I don’t think we’ll ever recover from. So...there’s a lot of real energy in this one. I think Scenes from Yavin IV is underrated. Fade to Red is smutty garbage in a lot of ways, but it’s been a huge investment, and it’s really made me think about how and why relationships work--and writing Kanan and Hera at the same time as Trevor and Sypha has made it clear that there are REALLY DIFFERENT ways of having healthy relationships, so that’s cool. Fade to Red has been a massive amount of work for a modest achievement, and I both resent it and am attached to it for that reason. It will end in a 8,000 word blowout next week, and I think I’ll be sad to see it done. I think Mastery’s doing some interesting things, though it’s a bit retconned now.

i’d say…dialogue and having my writing feel very physically grounded in the moment. personally, i don’t like to spend a lot of time in that sort of abstract, reflective headspace—i prefer to focus on specific, concrete moments and interactions. i try to bring attention to the sensory side of things to make it feel more tangible

16. what are your writing weaknesses?

both over- and under-editing lol. sometimes i’ll rework a line or passage too much when it was much better off the way i’d originally written it. and sometimes i’m so intent on just getting things done and posting that i don’t spend much time editing at all

17. what are your thoughts on writing dialogue in other languages on a fic?

personally i would never do it myself, and i’m not a huuge fan of it in other fics either. there is one rlly old makorra fic that i love tho that does it and i think it works incredibly well in the specific context that it’s in

18. what was the first fandom you ever wrote for?

leviathan! those books were my first introduction into any kind of fandom stuff, they still hold a special place in my heart

19. what is your favorite fic ever written?

my favourite fic that I’VE ever written is probably victory lap, closely followed by love language. i’m still incredibly proud of both of them, but victory lap wins out in that it was such a huge, daunting project that i never expected to actually complete—and then i smashed out 26k words of the most self-indulgent au i’ve ever written in a little over two weeks and i was like. holy fucking shit. i can’t believe i did that JFHSJSH

also i’m very happy with the way i managed to execute all the stuff about sokka’s feelings and motivations and the struggles of being an athlete. it was just such a fun and fulfilling way to combine two of my biggest interests ^_^

now if we’re talking abt my favourite fic that someone else has written….shit. pls don’t ask me that, i can’t choose >_< i have a favourites tag in my bookmarks for a reason

You’re All I Need - honestly I don’t like this one that much, no idea why it blew up. a slightly angsty newtina fic written for a secret santa fic exchange in 2018 for a newtina discord server.

Special Treatment - a newtina crackfic, where theseus scamander teases tina about showing up to work late with a hickey. one of my best attempts at comedy!

nativitas - a short fic about theseus scamander meeting his baby brother newt for the first time, first in my scamander brothers series

Taken By Surprise - newtina fic written based on the rayllum kiss scene from the dragon prince

discidium - the second instalment in the scamander brothers series. newt sees theseus off at platform 9 3/4. he doesn’t want his brother to leave him.

5. Do you respond to comments? Why/why not?

yes i do!! i thank everyone for leaving comments cause i don’t get that many and they do wonders for my writer’s ego. please don’t be shy to leave comments, i am very friendly and will be eternally grateful for compliments on my fic!!!

6. A fic you’ve written with the angstiest ending?

as a general rule i don’t write angst cause i treat fic like escapism and so need happy endings. the angsty ends i have are usually in line with canon. duty-bound covers the end of potc3, where will and elizabeth are separated, so that’s pretty angsty. a little fall of rain covers queenie leaving jacob in the crimes of grindelwald.

7. Do you write crossovers?

ive written only one and am not likely to write another LOL

annexus is a fantastic beasts-bbc sherlock crossover. i was thinking about how similar queenie and sherlock are, and how sherlock’s deduction powers have about the same effect as queenie’s legilimency, so boom, this fic was born. also they have the same birthday! i posted the fic on that day last year

8. Ever received hate on a fic?

never, thankfully. i’ve never become well-known enough or written sufficiently controversial stuff in order to get hate

9, Do you write smut?

nah. i write sex but i shy away from the details. i like to say i like subtlety but really i am just a coward. maybe when i become a more experienced writer and grow some balls then i will write proper smut

this 7k+ monster of a newtina fic that i started in like 2019 and still haven’t finished. kinda cringe at the thought of it, because it was just me projecting really bad. premise was tina has a really really bad period and newt takes care of her

i think i do emotional impact very well. i know how to use rhetoric devices and things like internal monologue and third person deep pov and i can string words together in a way that create absolute bangers of lines

16. Writing weaknesses?

i am really bad at plot/exposition LMAOO and am also like a really inconsistent writer. i have horrible perfectionism issues and so i don’t write often, only when i’m inspired, though i am making an effort to write more. also sometimes i think i’m too obsessed with certain ideas or certain ways of wording things such that i force them in even though it might not necessarily make sense to

17. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in a fic?

i’ve never done it before! i don’t dare to do it in languages i don’t know, and so far chinese (my second language) hasn’t really been useful to write dialogue in. that might change though because i’m getting into more works with chinese rep, like agents of shield!

my most recent one, (wolf’s) teeth! it’s a sylki songfic based on teeth by 5sos and honestly i feel like it’s my magnum opus. i love these two so much and the song fit them and the plot so well!! i banged it out during a really busy school week in like 3 days, i’m so proud of myself for doing it

Hi, anon from the question about the portrayal of drug use in Wolfstar fics here.

I think I worded my ask poorly, because I didn’t at all mean to demonize the use of drugs or alcohol as coping mechanisms or just in general. I completely understand why people use substances to get through the day, especially those who live in situations they can’t escape from, and drugs or alcohol provide comfort or relief. Some people use them for fun, whereas for others it can be a matter of survival.

Montparnasse’s fic “Eclipse and Transit” mentions that Peter suspects Remus of using heroin, and Sirius comments on his own use of cocaine in the story. That was what prompted my ask. I think it makes a lot of sense that people in their situation might use drugs, especially with all the shit happening to them and around them in First War-era fics.

I do think that it’s a subject that needs to be approached carefully, because there’s a huge difference between writing from experience and writing as someone who’s not done any research or is looking at a subject with no understanding of its impact on others. Not exactly the same, but I’m hesitant to read fics that discuss sex work when written by people who have never been sex workers themselves, or at least have a good understanding of the issues that sex workers face in their daily lives, because it’s easy for things to be portrayed in ways that are ignorant or hurtful.

I was curious about your thoughts on the matter because you have interesting perspectives and headcanons about R&S, and I enjoy reading them. I’m sorry that the way I worded my ask was insensitive, and hope that this makes a bit more sense.

in the professional world, ive done a lot of freelance editing for peoples manuscripts. mostly novellas and short stories, but some graphic works and longer novels, too. im a sensitivity reader, meaning (im sure u know but for anyone else reading) i check work about people with my lived experience to make sure its an accurate portrayal. as a person of color and a gay and trans person, this can be anything from kind of weird or cringe stuff to outright harmful stereotyping. the work that i do helps people better portray their characters and gives them an all around better story.

obviously, sensitivity readers and editors dont really exist for fanfiction, unless the writer is really really dedicated. so, you get those fics that portray these sorts of things weirdly or harmfully etc etc. honestly, i think most people are afraid to ask a drug user or sex worker what their experiences are like. can you imagine getting the ask like, hey, whats ur life like? im writing a drarry fic. lmao.

basically, what im saying is, much to your point, if you dont do the research or have experience (or hire someone with the experience) with the subject youre writing, then you arent going to write it well. this goes for sensitive issues like drug use and sex work, but also really anything. heaven knows theres awkward portrayals of gay men out there, but even further, if you werent a fry cook or a business major or a single mom youd have trouble writing with and understanding a character who was one. research is imperative no matter what youre writing, especially with sensitive issues.

that being said, if you ARE doing the research, fics about sex work or drug use etc etc can be really well done. personally im not a fan of fics about addiction, due to my own experiences and my general preference for happy fics, but i can totally see the appeal. as long as a writer is willing to put in the work, i see no problem with this sort of fic. also, im sure i speak for everyone when i say montparnasse’s work is worth it. havent read that fic bc of the infidelity tag unfortunately but i love their work overall. great example of an author who puts thought and time into this sort of thing

impossible question! right now it’s still scrooge/goldie from ducktales. but roy/riza and six/holiday and jessie/james have very intense holds on my heart. i love a lot of ships forever but i think i’ve put more actual real money into scrooge/goldie stuff than any other ship ive been obsessed with

i did collaborative ash/misty fic stuff on serebii.net when i was 6 or 7, so technically pokemon. but prior to that i wrote and drew powerpuff girls comics, so could also be that! the first stuff i published on my own was teen titans fics
