NCT 127 TITLE TRACK RANKING (PERSONAL OPINION AN OPINION THAT IS SUBJECTIVE AND BASED ON MY PERSONAL EXPERIENCE)
Tumblr media
16. chain
I do not care for this song. my problem with calling nct songs bad is that they’re all so good at singing it can trick you into thinking a bad song is good. that effect was not successful in this case. this is one of the only 127 songs I would genuinely call overproduced.
15. wakey-wakey
I just realized it’s about to look like I’m just hating on their Japanese titles and to that I say that the Japanese branch of SM should step their game up idk. anyways I don’t hate this song but the intro is unlistenable and the beat is so ludicrously dated for being released in 2019 and not in a fun nostalgic way either.
14. gimme gimme
I like this song but it sounds exactly like Red Velvet’s Wildside and that song is much much better than this so it ranks low just by virtue of having a pretty sister. sorry.
13. regular
I think we can all admit this song is cringe. can we say that like can we be real for a second. anyways it’s still extremely fun and the harmonies are excellent
12. kick it
well. here we are. I know this is their most popular song by far and probably their least controversial but to me that’s it’s weakness. it’s very catchy, the harmonies and bridge are untouchable, and the choreo is excellent but it’s just not… weird enough? their best titles are the ones that really stand out from the crowd and this just does not deliver on that.
11. 2 baddies
full disclosure this song came on shuffle while I was writing this and I burst out laughing, this song is just too much fun. the final chorus is so fucking good it justifies the entire songs existence. its about a threesome, Jaehyun raps about Blues Clues, it’s got old timey car horns interpolated through the melody, Taeyong makes a barely veiled comment about letting the listener fuck him, literally what is there not to like about this song.
10. superhuman
this song was lifted directly from the Shinee vault and I’m not even being hyperbolic about that o would be willing to put money down that this is a reworked Shinee track from like 2013 that didn’t make it out of the basement. and that’s why it’s good 🤷🏻‍♀️ it ranks low-ish purely because it doesn’t sound like a 127 song. to me.
9. punch
why do I feel like this could be a controversial opinion. I like this song. I like the weird ASMR bits, when this song dropped I was obsessed with asking people if they get ASMR tingles. I am a harmony enjoyer so I liked the chorus and the weird minor scales they do on the theremin, it sounds like if Mario Kart had a crossover with Final Fantasy. everyone else hated it because they wore jeans to promote it, and that’s understandable.
8. touch
I AM A GOOFY SONG LIKER. this is also a Shinee song but in a good way. it was a fun pivot from their usual and they really got to show off their vocals. an unambiguously GOOD song, thank you Taeil.
7. favorite
I’m not calling that shit vampire, please get out of my face. anyways I’m angry at this song and will be angry possibly forever. the verses are literally unlistenable. you can’t listen to them, physically. however this song has possible one of the best choruses I’ve ever heard in a pop song or maybe even ANY song. when I want to listen to this song I literally press play while my phone is on silent, fast forward to the chorus, and THEN turn the volume up. so you can see why it ranked where it did.
6. cherry bomb
I can’t separate this song from the loona cover and therefore I’m very enamored with it. honestly this song ranks this high just because of Mark’s rap verse, which is so good it justifies all other horrible inane offbeat and nonsense filled kpop rap verses. in two to five years when SM has attempted to integrate Mark into the American rap market please either remember I said this or forget it entirely out of respect for me.
5. sticker
I can’t explain my art often. I think it’s becoming obvious that their more controversial songs are my favorite and this is because I find them genuinely interesting musically. it’s great to hear vocally talented people dipping into experimental sounds and bringing pop to new places, and I think Sticker exemplifies this! the beat is fun, the vocals are amazing, even the weird nasal rap fits perfectly into this song. a hit!
4. fire truck
an oldy but a goldy! they had a lot to prove with this song and they definitely did the damn thing. I think even people who don’t like nct or anything approaching their sound can still admit this is a good song, which is a slippery slope. Haechan and Taeil facing off during the pre chorus on top of Taeyong rap parts… excellent that’s all there is to say!
3. ay-yo
sorry I couldn’t let this song marinate for a full 24 hours, as if it’s my fault. this song is the best thing 127 has released in years, and it was up against some tough competition. it’s deeply reminiscent of limitless and their early work while keeping all the strengths from their recent albums. I’m purposefully only talking about the titles and not the albums but I have to mention how perfectly this song ties together the repackage, the two new bsides compliment it so well that it wouldn’t surprise me if they were written alongside it, and it very neatly sweeps together the 2baddies album in a way that’s significantly more coherent than the original release. the only reason this isn’t in second is because the bridge should have had Haechan and Taeil in it.
2. simon says
this song is good. to me this is the most nct release to ever exist. the pitched up horse sounds. the weird disjointed bubble noises and seemly random marimba half scales. the bridge to this song should be studied in universities and maybe even churches. this is truly one of those rap parts you either get or don’t, and if you get it you REALLY get it. the production of this song is so interesting and complex that you’d think it would sound busy but the layers fit together in such a fascinating way that it’s incredibly satisfying to pick apart.
1. limitless
this is a very good song. this was so close to the beginning of their career and for them to solidify their sound so early is so fascinating to see given how they’ve only really doubled down and perfected it over the years. the guttural grinding electronic bass sounds matching Taeyong’s vocal fry over the verses, men fighting for their lives on the chorus, Mark was wearing a sweat band, the chanting during the post-chorus… this is the perfect example of how pop can borrow from other genres or successfully utilize interesting techniques to create something new. I actually think this is probably one of the best kpop songs ever made. it’s a GOOD song.
thanks for reading please comment if you have thoughts I don’t feel like reading this again so if I spelled something wrong please have mercy on me okay byeee

Hi for the kpop asks I want to know about 127 :>
hi! thanks for asking! <3
✦ my first bias: technically, probably mark because he was the first nct member i learned about, but it quickly became taeyong after i actually started getting into nct, and taeyong was my bias for the first three or so months of being an nctzen!
✦ my current bias(es): haechan! he is my ult, i love him so very much. probably slightly too parasocially attached to him but i'm not going to worry about it lol...
✦ my album and/or era ranking (or favorite of each): 127 has so many albums, and i decided to write my reasoning behind each one...bear with me... from favorite to least favorite:
Cherry Bomb: this is a masterpiece of an album. Cherry Bomb is SUCH a good song, the music video has that artistic scrappy Neo identity, the styling is so cool in my opinion, and the album is full of great songs. When i think of nct 127 this the era i think of.
We Are Superhuman: okay, i just personally love this album. Superhuman was what made me an nctzen. I feel so fond of it, it's my baby. Superhuman and Highway to Heaven are such feel-good songs! And I love the concept/styling/photobook.
Limitless: Limitless is a song that's really grown on me recently. The "Rough vers. MV" was truly ahead of its time. The styling was... questionable lol. Poor haechan's hair! But this album also gave me Back 2 U, which is maybe the best 127 b-side ever.
Regulate (Simon Says): I love Simon Says, it was another early favorite of mine in my baby nctzen days. The styling for this mv was immaculate, I still dream about yuta's grey plaid skirt thing and the vans shoelaces tied around the ankles.
Loveholic (Gimme Gimme): Maybe it's because I got into nct in this era, but loveholic is really special to me. The concepts for the photobook really speak to me (especially the rain one, but i also find the bright green and orange color scheme of the album cover sooo satisfying) and 'right now', the last song on the album, is my ultimate favorite 127 b-side, i almost feel a little possessive over it >.< the gimme gimme mv was a little lacking but i like the song itself!
Chain: the chain music video!! omg. Also the b-sides dreaming and 100 are such hidden gems. I also really vibed with the styling (shout out to the stylists for giving taeil that sexy haircut lol). 127's japanese releases hit different for me.
Neo Zone: I mean... neo zone is iconic. i feel like i should love it more than i do? kick it is a banger, the mv is soooo well executed, i love mullet hyuck and mark's stripey hair, i love the concept and outfits, and the photobook is crammed full of really cute photos... but there's something about it that i don't feel as nostalgic or lovey about compared to the albums i ranked above it. i think most of the b-sides feel slightly bland to me? and sometimes i feel like neo zone was a little too perfected, like it lacks some of that original 127 crunchy absurdity.
Neo Zone: The Final Round (Punch): I actually am fond of Punch, she's underrated imo. there's something about that song that i find really satisfying. the styling isn't anything to write home about, but it works well in the context of the concept.
Regular-Irregular: Confession...I don't really like Regular *winces*. i'm too anti-capitalist for it lol! but that said, the music video is delicious. And the song itself is really catchy... if i look past the lyrics. although... maybe the lyrics are supposed to provide a negative commentary on our money-obsessed culture?? are they that deep?? i'll have to think about this...
Sticker: When this album came out i remember liking it a lot. But as time has gone on, it's gotten more boring for me. The song and music video weren't bad objectively, but i feel like it marked a significant shift in 127's artistic voice, a change i didn't really want... although shout out to the seoul city version of the photobook, which i still think is gorgeoussssss
Awaken: I cannot get through Wakey-wakey. it is SO grating to my years lol. however! i am obsessed with ‘end-to-start’, the outro song of the album. i get chills every time mark says “the origin will begin”. i’m also giving it bonus points because i like the way haechan was styled :P
2 Baddies: The biggest reason why this album is so low is that i really don’t like most of the songs on the album. For the title track, the song and mv aren’t terrible. i like that it’s playful, i really enjoy jaehyun’s rap, and the styling is really cool! but... idk, there’s just something about the whole thing that makes me disappointed, like i feel like it had potential to be better.
Favorite: oh lord... its only saving graces for me are: the catharsis photoshoot, the cool forest set that taeyong and mark rap in in the mv, haechan singing ‘your love, your love’ in the outro, and love on the floor being one of my top guilty pleasure songs. The rest was just not it for me.
Fire Truck: hey, i guess ranking their debut album last means they’ve come a long ways?? I don’t really care for any of the songs on this album. the fire truck music video was... interesting... i do love the styling (i might be the only one who does, but i actually sincerely do!), and i like the choreography, but that’s about it.
✦ how i got into them: at the time i was really into shinee, and i remember watching this mashup and i was blown away by superhuman, and that was the beginning! but i didn’t quite consider myself an nctzen then. i think a month or so later when i was leaving for an internship and i was really anxious, i started listening to all the 127 title tracks to help me feel strong and tough and i think that’s when i really formed an emotional connection to 127 itself and got to know the members better.
✦ which member would be my best friend: oh god, this is hard because i’d want to be friends with all of them! i think personality-wise, i’d probably get along the best with taeyong. i see a lot of myself in him.
✦ something i associate with them (or with a bias/any member): with 127 as a group: neon colors, leather fingerless gloves, messy hair, science fiction. with taeyong: fish, furiously scribbling in a notebook, the subway/metro. with haechan: falling asleep with your head on someone’s shoulder, scuffed favorite sneakers, lambs and baby goats, the concepts of soulmates and fate, the golden hour.

Hi… i hope I’m not bothering you but i see you’re a fan of NCT and I’m recently trying to learn more about them, and get into them, and i was wondering if you could maybe tell me about them? If not then that’s okay 😊
Hello there! I suggest you strap in, we’re going for a ride.
When you think of Neo Culture Technology aka NCT, you need to think of infinity. Endless members, never-ending content, countless music styles. You also need to think strong rap lines, angelic vocals, all in perfect harmony. The leader of this massive and still ongoing project is Lee Taeyong and it currently consists of 23 members, out of which 13 are actually foreigners! You might feel a little bit overwhelmed when you look at NCT as a whole, but don’t worry, I have the perfect cure for this. Introducing --- NCT sub-units!
NCT 127
-> Taeil, Johnny, Taeyong, Yuta, Doyoung, Jaehyun, Jungwoo, Mark, Haechan (plus WinWin, but he is currently inactive) -> Think hard beats, fire rap, vocals shattering all the nearby glass, so be careful -> They debuted in 2016 with the song Fire Truck (whoop whoop whoop whoop!) which is pretty dope, if you ask me. I guarantee you that you’ve never heard anything like it in kpop before, but if it feels too much, try Limitless or Cherry Bomb, your ears will be blessed, your mind chilled. Their latest track is Save on which they collaborated with Amoeba Culture. They’re releasing their third studio album in September, so stay tuned!
NCT Dream
-> Mark, Renjun, Jeno, Haechan, Jaemin, Chenle, Jisung. Wait, did you say Mark? And Haechan? I sure did! Both of them are in NCT Dream and NCT 127, because they’re just that good. -> Think cute, think mischievous, young, hot, BOOM! Prepare to be blown away. -> This sub-unit debuted in 2016 as well, but their average age is lower than 127’s and they debuted as tiny teenagers, so keep that in mind, when you watch Ch-ch-ch-ch-chewing gum (that song will fill your entire brain in a matter of seconds). Also My First and My Last is the dopest song ever and it has the cutest choreography. Dreamies’ most recent album is Hello Future (which is a repackage of Hot Sauce). Go check it out, more than 2 milion copies were sold, so it’s definitely worth to give it a try!
WayV
-> Kun, Ten, WinWin, Lucas, XiaoJun, Hendery, YangYang -> Think… thots. Think hip thrusts, dark magic, some intense gazing into your soul, but in Chinese. -> WayV debuted in 2019 with Regular, but that doesn’t count, so let’s say they debuted with Take Off. My personal favourite are Moonwalk and Action Figure from their most recent album Kick Back.
Okay, so that’s it? Definitely not, there’s more!
NCT U
To keep us hooked forever, SM shuffles the members' name tags once in a while, and create a new formation, a new combination, something that we call NCT U. It's cool, cause we see members that don't meet so often interacting with each other and it's always something new musicaly-wise. Some of the planet favourites are 7th sense or Boss.
Alright, I get it. So there are units and then every once in a while, some of the members meet and form a temporary unit. Basically, yes! Sometimes, though, all 23 of them gather and release a joint album! -> This happened in 2018, when SM introduced new members and released an album called Empathy. By that time, there were only 18 members. -> The most recent joint project happened just last year, in 2020, when NCT released an album called Resonance and introduced the two newest members, Sungchan and Shotaro. Wait, you haven't mentioned these names before! That's right, that's because they're not in a fixed sub-unit, yet! Let's hope SM will employ them soon. In the meantime, go check out their 90's Love or Make a Wish. -> We should be getting another NCT 2021 project this year, according to SM, even though I'm not sure how and where they're going to find time for that :D
Alright, that's about it, I think! The basics. If you'd like to, don't hesitate to ask me to describe the unit or member or album you're interested in more specifically, I was trying to keep this as short as possible (I failed). <3
I'll end this with one of my favourite NCT live performance, I'm a sucker for vocals, so here you go: From Home from 2020's MAMA.
Hope this was hopefull! Much love ^^

Summary // Tali's period decided to pay a visit and everyone now gets to see what some girls go through.
Characters // Talia Flores + Nct 127 + Nct Dream (Except : Jaemin Mentions: Her mother)
Era / Year // November 2017
Word Count //
⚠️Warning⚠️ // Periods??
Tumblr media
As many people do, people go through puberty, and Talia is no different. As most people call it, she pulled a Jungkook on us. She also had her period, the boys were ready for it and everything, but she never really showed signs she was on her period.
She got her period when she was 13 years old, and has it every 3 -4 months. She is irregular, but usually in that span she would get it, unless she is on a diet that is quiet dangerous then no period at all. When she does have her period the side effects she has is cramps, headache, nausea, and last but not least mood swings her mood swings are more emtional, like she cries more easily. Talia is one to be able to control her mood so mood swings she is able to hide pretty well but sometimes she slips up.
During the trainee days the boys didn't really care about her period, thats until they started living with her remember oh yeah, periods.
They don't ask, and she doesn't say, why? Cause she feels awkward asking them for stuff like pads, or ibuprofen etc. So she asks her personal manager or one of the girls from Blackpink.
Thats when one day, her period decided, hey...you gonna be in pain.
Tumblr media
Tali woke up to pain on her stomach and head, she groan out in pain knowing, today is gonna be a long day. She went to the bathroom and got tampons and ibuprofen, she sat on the ground for a second so the pill can work, she sighed in relief when it started working but knowing her body its gonna come back up in a couple hours maybe even minutes. She got up and saw all of dream preparing breakfast.
"Hey sleepy head, you woke up late, when did you sleep." Jaemin nagged at her.
"Hmm, I don't remember but Im still tired." She mumbled as she sat next to Jeno and layed her head on his shoulder.
They all looked her worried, she seemed more tired then usual.
"EVERYONE!"
Everyone turned to the door and they saw Mark at the door they all looked at him confused.
"Lets go, we are gonna be late to the recording."
He hurried them. Talia's face filled with annoyance but reminded herself, do not take it out on them, do not take it out on them, they are just reminding you just go change. She chanted to herself, as she went to her room. Mark noticed her tiredness, but decided it was nothing.
She changed, brung her stuff for her period and a brown bag, as she feels like since her pain is this bad, nausea is bound to happen which equals throwing up. She left her room and everyone was there and they left, she texted her personal manager say she has her period, but she might have to canceled the recording session since its bad.
She remembered that Karma said she went on birth control to stop her period and she thought about it but thought...no I can handle it...boy was she wrong today.
They got in the car and she could feel her pain comeback its just has been 30 minutes maybe a little more, and in the car out of all times she thought. She closed her eyes and took a deep breath trying not to groan in pain.
They got to the company building as she was about to step down a sharp pain hit her abdomen, she yelped in pain and she she squeezed the door handle.
"Noona you okay?" Jeno asked as he was right behind and saw nothing could have hit her.
"Yeah I just...hit my finger on the door." She made a quick excuse. But the boys were not buying it, but they let it go. They walked in the building and went to the studio.
She sat down in silence as the boys were eyeing her. They knew about her period she just never shows it, so they don't know whats wrong.
"Lets start guys, who is gonna go first?" One of the producers asked mostly looking at Tali but she shook her head no, he got the hint and went on to Haechan. The boys saw the interaction, and now wondering whats wrong.
Tali moved up to the seat next to the producer. He whispered.
"You okay?"
"Yeah, I just got it today, and its a bad one...you got a water?" She asked him and he knew what she meant. He grabbed a water and handed it to her.
"So thats why you canceled the recording?" Tali nodded
"Yeah, I took ibuprofen 30 minutes ago and my pain has comeback so I'm gonna take another one."
He nodded, she grabbed her pills thinking no one was looking, as it seems the boys were looking at their lines, but in reality they were all looking at her.
They were worried and then when she got pills out of her bag, they were even more worried. She took them and put them bag quickly. They were confused. They saw her lean back and sigh with relief.
"You wanna go next?"
"Yeah, while this pill is working." She whispered, she got up went in the studio and smiled at Haechan but when she got in return was a worried look.
"Whats wrong?" She said to him.
"I should be asking you that, are you sure you hit your hand on the door or are you in pain somewhere else,Noona don't lie to me." Haechan warned, since Talia is not a big lier but when it comes to her health and pain she does.
"I'll be fine, okay, if I can live a day of dieting I can live through pain, don't worry yourself. Im a grown woman." She shook her head playfully at him, making it seem she was okay.
He was half convinced she was okay but the other half he knew she was lying about being okay.
She started recording and managed pretty well. She left with Mark and Haechan to practice with 127 she went up first then the other two behind her. They were looking at her for any sign of pain or discomfort but couldn't find any.
They made it to practice and she smiled at the guys. The choreographer called Tali to him before they started.
"Hey you good? I know how bad your cramps and nausea get, just tell me when you can't handle the pain anymore or dizzy, cause I've seen it." He said, she nodded and smiled.
"I'll try."
He nodded knowing she will just fight through the pain like usual.
They continued practice, before they got there Haechan texted them that Tali is in pain but he doesn't know how. So they kept an eye on her, she noticed but decided to go through it like normal. Thats when her pill wore off on her kick in Cherry Bomb when she stood on leg, her legs gave up on her and her abdomen felt like it was getting stabbed.
They guys ran up to her Jaehyun catching her on her way down he could see her almost crying and whimpering in pain.
"I told you when you feel the pain stop practicing especially this time but nope." The choreographer shook his head and grabbed water and ibuprofen. Tali look at it and shook her head knowing her period it probably won't work.
"Its not gonna work, I already took 3." She huffed feeling her abdomen in pain, she groan in pain.
"Whats wrong?" Yuta asked her, worried why the girl is in so much pain.
"She got her period, today and its nasty one too." The choreographer explain.
"Take her home and someone stay with her, cause her period side effects are not the best."
"What side effects? I thought it was only cramps?" Mark asked innocently.
"Well yeah, but with her its a lot, for example she has, cramps and bad ones, headaches, and nausea. Sometimes mood swings but she is good at handling that." He explained the boys eyes widen theh look at Tali who is now curling up on Jaehyuns lap in pain.
"Okay we will take her home." Doyoung said.
"Jaehyun you carry her and Johnny grab her stuff. The rest look up what good to grab for a bad period and go buy it." Doyoung instructed. The members scattered wanting Talia not to be in pain anymore.
Jaehyun and Johnny when back home first and Jaehyun layed Talia on Haechan's bed he was about to leave when Tali grabbed his hand.
"No, please don't leave I don't wanna be alone." She whined, he chuckled and went under the blanket with her on his chest. He was petting her hair, but she still wasn't able to go to sleep because of the pain. They heard the boys come through the door thats when she got up quickly and ran to the bathroom. All the boys saw her run and they started to go after her and they saw her throwing up.
Yuta went quickly to hold her hair up and rub her back. She put her face up catching her breath then flushed the toilet and layed back on Yutas chest.
"Ah, sorry, when it gets this bad I have nausea, so you will probably see me in the bathroom a lot." She smiled at them apologetically.
"No no, you don't have to be sorry, but that means you are gonna have to eat more." Taeyong stated, Talia shaked her head vigorously no.
"Yes, you are gonna dehydrate if you don't." Doyoung slightly raised his voice at her. She was gonna glare at him but closed her eyes and turned Yutas chest and sank in his arms.
They boys could see her holding back her comments and attitude, which assumed were her mood swings then Yutas eyes widen which made them worried he picked up Tali's face which kinda spooked him how quiet she was crying.
"Oh oh why are you crying?" Yuta asked softly, knowing the result of a louder voice will probably make her cry even more. Doyoung's eyes widen as he felt guilt rush through him, as the others were surprised how quiet Tali was crying or she was crying in general.
"Be- because I don't deserve you guys a-and Doyoung raised his voice at me and I was gonna say something mean but I remembered he doesn't deserved it he just cares for mee~" She whaled at the end as Yuta hugged her head as she wrapped her arms around his torso.
You could see the guilt on Doyoung's face when she said that, and noted when on her period don't raise his voice. He went in and pulling her to him, she looked up at saw his face she was about to pull away but saw the caring look in his eyes.
"Sorry for raising my voice, Im not mad and you know that but can you atleast eat a snack here and there." He asked softly, she nodded her head cutely which made the boys even more soft because some people have ugly face when they cry and some don't. Tali doesn't, her cheeks and nose goes to a rosie color while her eyes dilate and she looks like a doll.
She was about to hug Doyoung but yanked back, and went to throw up in the toilet again. The boys winced at the action as the also see Tali holding her stomach, she leans back on Yut's chest again, as Yuta plays with her hair.
"Hey uh..." She hesitated.
"No tells us its okay." WinWin said trying to reassure her as she gave him doe eyes, he went soft.
"Can someone get my uh, heating pad." As she closed her eyes tightly, her hands on her abdomen.
"Of course princess." Taeyong said as he went to grab the heating pad and heat it up.
"Im gonna go make food okay." Doyoung said and kissed her head and left, she nodded. Now the boys were around the bathroom not wanting to leave Tali's side.
"Shoot." She whispered but everyone heard.
"What is it?" Haechan whispered but worried.
"Uh..." She still looked hesitant.
"Its okay, just tell us we will do it." Taeil reassured her.
"Uh can someone grab my bag for a...tampon." She said embarrassed. The boys smiled at her flustered state. Johnny got up and grabbed the the tampons but got confused.
"Uh Tali which one?" He held up a box filled with different tampons. Talia laughed but winced, the boys looked at her with worry.
"Im okay, its fine just give it to me but can you get out please?" She smiled. They nodded and left. Once she finished she opened the dorm to see a smiling Taeyong with her heating pad her put it on her abdomen and she sighed in relief, but then dream barged in.
"NOONA?"
The boys went to the bathroom where most of the boys were surrounded. They saw her laying on Taeyong looking at them with a surprised look on her face.
"Why didn't you tell us you were hurting, huh?!" Renjun raised his voice a little which wouldn't really matter if Tali wasn't on her period didn't consider it related to her mother. The dreamies and 127 members saw her eyes water and slowly she started to cry. Which threw off the dreamies.
"I-im sorry, I didn't want to bother you, and we were going to record which was al- already stressful so I didn't want you to look after your noona." Tali hiccuped as she cried, and the look on Renjun's face couldn't have felt more guilty, thinking he made Talia cry. Before he could say anything she said
"Im sorry I'm am emotional mess." Which broke them seeing her like that Taeyong held her head to his chest rocking her back and fourth.
"Shh its okay. We love you okay, remember that." He said kissing her head. Trying to rock her to sleep.
Renjun was standing there feeling guilty thinking he did something wrong to make Talia cry. But Doyoung went up to him and patted him on the back.
"You didn't do anything wrong, right now she is emotional, Haechan will expain the do's and don'ts that we have learn while she is on her period." Doyoung expain to the dreamies, they nodded and went to Haechans room.
They entered and Renjun was feeling guilty, yeah she was on her period but he felt like he did such a terrible thing. Haechan noticed.
"Yeah I saw, its fine it happened to Doyoung too, but what we have learned so far is that she has bad cramps, headaches, nausea and mood swings."
"Is that why she is in the bathroom?" Chenle asked, Haechan nodded.
The dreamies felt helpless, they cant do much for their noona.
Tumblr media
Next day.....
Tali woke up in Haechan's bed, with Renjun hugging her, she guessed he felt bad for making her cry, now and now she felt bad for overreacting.
Then she stopped herself if she thought more about what happen she would cry again. She got up and saw everyone around sleeping, she felt guilty for making them worry but then she felt something and knew what was coming.
She ran to the bathroom which made everyone wake up and look around seeing Tali up which meant she went to throw up. They felt guity not being able to help. Renjun woke pretty fast and ran after her, he saw her throwing up and held her hair back and hugged her.
"You okay?" He asked softly. She nodded.
"I know its weird, but can you bring me a tampon any is fine." He nodded and left. She huffed and layed her head back.
"Im so going on birth control."

Regarding your conversation about NCT (127 I presume?)’s “decline” with that previous anon, I have to disagree. “Save” was a CF song and a collaboration with Amoeba Culture. The music was produced by Gaeko and had nothing to do with SM - it wasn’t even uploaded to the SMtown channel but to Stone Music instead. You can’t listen to one CF song and immediately call decline or lament about better days when their last real comeback was over a year ago. Especially when that comeback happened to be Kick It, one of their most solid title tracks in term of music, choreography and concept and just screams Neo Culture Technology. I think it was a worthy heir to Cherry Bomb (which I think is one of the best if not the best comeback in all aspects - music, dance and concept) and has that same visceral moody guitar riff on top of a solid beat that echoes throughout their rap and vocals. + that entire album is just so perfectly balanced with absolutely no skips whatsoever. The NCT 2020 project had some really good title tracks as well (some better than others) and showed off the versality of all the members as well as the myriad ways of combining them into infinite concepts. You can think their earlier songs were better, sure, that’s your opinion. But don’t bring in Save as an example when you’ve had an entire year of back-to-back comebacks of all their units + a full group comeback with so many good new songs that show their growth in technique and artistry like... just a few months ago. Idk what it is with kpop fans crying about how things used to be better when they don’t get new content shoved into their faces every other month or so. Were only 6 months into 2021, have some patience.
it got too long
i think what me and the other anon were trying to say was that save was only a very small part of something bigger that’s been different for a while. as much older fans, we can feel a shift in 127s sound from the experimental group to the generic group (it also doesn’t help that 127s sound itself has become the ripped off standard in the industry). personally, a year after neozone, i find that the album was boring in terms of 127’s standard. objectively it’s very strong and well balanced with very good tracks that showcase the members abilities. but it’s also very boring (it’s similar to numerous western pop albums i’ve heard over the years..but that’s the point)—appealing to a very general listening audience that’s really only ever listened to pop and nothing else. in comparison, regular-irregular was a little messy as an album but how different it was in terms of sound…it was much more on brand. thus, neozone (the passable “oh nct actually makes good music” album) was very popular and brought in a lot of new fans who hated their music beforehand. nct2020 also had the same problem, the music was solid and good but it felt very rushed, messy, and the songs were safe in terms of sound compared to what nct has done before. nct2020 was very very rushed and after i saw how the tracks on pt.2 we’re placed in order, i understood how much effort sm was actually putting into nct—low budget but high return.
most of all, i think what me and a lot of older fans miss about nct is the cinematic element. a lot of us were drawn in for the quality teasers and music videos, which was completely lost in 2019 (compare regular-simon says vs superhuman…a span of six months) the quality of the teasers and music videos in 2020-2021 were horrible for nct compared to the their labelmates. of course, this can be attributed to a loss in good creative team but it’s also sm realizing that the new generation of nctzens simply have a lower standard for quality…because content is content. a lot of older fans (who were attracted to the Quality) have left or become largely disinterested (a lot of them moved to tbz bcuz the standard of quality in tbz’s production is better). it also doesn’t help that the oldest members are obviously disillusioned by what they signed up for.

fashion queen! which nct era has the best fashun in ur opinion?? and if u were a designer which neos would u pick as ur models?
I was so excited to answer this that I wrote several pages and it basically turned into a style analysis for each unit so I sure hope you have some time on your hands to read everything I’ve just written! (I did not reread so sorry for any typing mistake)
NCT is known to be experimental in their music and that’s also the case in their styling so there’s a lot for me to get into even though sometimes it’s a miss. One thing I will say though is that when it comes to the styling in mv/teasers, what’s around the clothes is super important because if you have a very specific styling concept, your set design or graphic design needs to complement that and give the audience more clues on how to read all these elements together (the cherry bomb era is a great example of that with all the added graphic elements and the predominance of the colour pink) and recently I’ve found that the creative team has not really gone further than just putting nct in an outfit in front of a basic background so it makes for a pretty underwhelming result
But let’s move on to my favourite styling eras. I’m going to do this per unit (I’ll finish with NCT U) and define an era by its teaser pictures and the mv (and not go through all the performance looks during the promotion period)
I’m putting this under a read more because it’s reaaally long (I put pictures so that it’s not just one big chunk of text)
NCT 127
Easily the most experimental unit when it comes to fashion, especially in their first years where they would wear mix of sportswear, grunge references, avant-garde fashion and a lot of layers. When it comes to their debut “Firetruck”, I think it fitted the song really well but that it didn’t fit all the members equally (especially the younger ones, for me Taeyong and Taeil pulled it off the best – it’s expected of Taeyong but I also think that Taeil always stand out when they go for edgy/unconventional look, I think it really suits him).
Anyway, just to say that they were off to a very strong start and then I’m just going to kindly ignore the Limitless styling and move on to Cherry Bomb!
Tumblr media
One thing nicely done for CB is how when you look at a group picture they’re clearly all following the same concept but they’re not necessarily matching or giving off the same vibes if you take them individually. I love the use of the colour pink which brings a) a great visual impact (you don’t ever see that much pink at once – especially on men) and b) an harmony despite the shapes and styles of their outfits being so vastly different, you’ve got ties, tousled, shirts, little frilled collars, stripes and all-over prints, sportswear and formal wear… (ex: taeyong’s short jacket is reminiscent of something a little luxurious, even maybe historical/noble with the little added embroidery-like details, it reminds me of these boleros jackets worn by toreros that are often red/gold VS doyoung’s overalls is an outfit that has a much more recent origin as it was first worn by factories workers, it’s usually blue or grey and is meant to be practical rather than pleasing to the eye -> here it fits very well with the general setting of the mv in what looks like an empty industrial storage space)
Tumblr media
This second look is more of a game on how to deconstruct formal wear (there are less prints and no bold colours, their hair is less messy…) but they don’t just add sportswear like the bomber jacket, you can find rock or more “modern” elements with the leather jackets or the jean jackets. All in black and white so great contrast with the previous looks, although that mix and match concept is still there. My favourite elements are the checkered ones (worn by taeyong, taeil and haechan) as it reminds me of the strategy element of the chess game which fits pretty well with all the weapons and other arms visible in the mv (a bit like a nod to the game battleship)
Tumblr media
This one I love that they developed their own print, especially since it’s another graphic element used elsewhere (see their album cover), because it’s a great way to really introduce their identity as a group, through the different visual elements they put out in a comeback, it’s like a logo but as a print. And all the teasers and the mv did a great job at mixing 2D/3D contents so that’s another nice way to be cohesive. It’s not my fave look out of the 3 (especially because I do not approve of that belt-suspenders-bag they gave Johnny, it’s like everything you don’t want to put a dancer in and it’s ugly as well) but I still like the fact that’s it’s another nod to the battle/strategy aspect of this comeback, like they’re on a mission to hit the stage and conquer it
Then fast forward to my other favourite one, Simon Says! (No teaser pictures here because they don’t show anything or they show not enough lol)
First of all THE MASKS
Tumblr media
Oh how I wish they could’ve been shown more (imagine teasers with the members wearing them!!! I would’ve loved individual teasers based on each of the masks concepts) Once again, a great to have group concept without making everyone wear the same thing. They’re all super different and full of details. Haechan’s is the only one from what I could who’s mask is actually a mask and not a fully covering hood. The materials and techniques used on these are either evocative of “fragile” things like glass and flowers but theses elements have their own hidden strength. Some others are covered in lace, pearls, fringes or fur…all these things are usually considered to be precious or even luxurious but it covers their faces and their identity and they throw it away in rebellion (and I think it’s also super interesting how Taeyong who takes off his mask first has the least ornamented one)
Tumblr media
Then the outfits themselves. Simon Says in an interesting MV because unlike most others they wear one outfit for most of the MV (the second one appears quite late in the mv and is lit and staged in a way that makes it less visible). It’s a mostly grey/white set of outfits which is usually a colour combo for office wear or maybe factory workers, it’s not something that can seem very exciting or edgy. The styling in these outfits reminds me of the works of Japanese designers who came to Paris in the 80’s and kind of shook the whole high fashion system by bringing a different type of shapes, aesthetic and purpose to fashion (Rei Kawakubo, Yohji Yamamoto…). These designers  went on to become super successful and inspired another wave of “avant-garde” designers nicknamed “the 6 of Anvers” (Anvers is a city in Belgium), this group includes Martin Margiella, Dries Van Noten…And to me the outfits in Simon Says really fit into this aesthetic. Unconventional fits, various layers, it’s not so much mix and match than a work on contrast between structure and fluidity (Yuta’s half skirt with un-trimed edges, Haechan’s long shirt with the long bow and the fitted jacket, Mark’s top with the various see-through layers of different lengths…).
An other interesting details (which to me calls back to the mask and that tension in the song/concept of letting go/being free of expectations), is the way they all have thick strings tied on their feet/ankles. Not holding them back because their feet aren’t tied together but there’s still this clear restriction of the garment itself, a reminder that there are tied to something and not completely free (also an interesting choice when dressing dancers who would need to have no added weight or discomfort in their outfit to dance but visually something is holding their ankles)
Honorable mentions:
Kick It– they managed to create very memorable outfits while taking inspirations from already well known elements (both for the fighting/training outfits and the bomber jackets). The black and white outfits especially are very original as performance outfits/dancing clothes since the og garment they’re inspired by has already such a strong identity outside of the performing arts and I don’t think I’ve ever seen it be used as a stage outfit? Or concept? It’s a nice exemple of how you can take inspiration for something designed to be useful and to be efficient (in fighting) and turn it into an aesthetic.
Tumblr media
Truthfully, martial art training outfit was already an “aesthetic” on its own but they made it a performance costume and now I do feel like it’s one of these looks that everyone will remember (like if there was a “most memorable kpop outfits” list it could easily have kick it’s black/white fits). The rest of the outfits for that concept weren’t as memorable/original to me although I feel like it showed a new approach to the styling of nct 127 as a group since they all had very similar outfits this time (especially when wearing the jackets).
Tumblr media
Also, interestingly,  that shot of Jaehyun that had everyone go “wow” ? Well it’s impactful because it’s him and he looks like that and it’s shot in a very specific way, but it’s also even more impactful because he’s the only one who gets to wear that kind of outfit in the mv. Everyone else has 3 sets of outfits (black and white, shiny black, red jacket and black pants) but he has 4 and that suit is only used in that shot which makes for a greater impact!
And I feel like Kick It in terms of styling opened a new era for NCT 127 has it kind of broke their usual mix and match/edgy concept. This time they were clearly referencing something already well known (either martial arts, the 90s…), and the members were all matching and they kept on doing that with the military jackets in punch, the other 90s concept in nct 2020…
Touch – for the way the outfits match the sets (in all their individual sets their outfits have a detail in a matching colour), the focus on colours !!! You can see that this whole concept was designed with this colour game/colour progression between the outfits and the set in mind. It’s just very pleasing to the eyes and a great contrast to their usual stuffs (also I wrote my graduation paper on colours so I am really into creative use of colours like this)
Tumblr media
OK now moving on to Dream!!
The interesting thing about Dream compared to NCT 127 is that from the beginning although their outfits had to match the song an the concept of the comeback it also had to match their age. Dream’s a group that had to look young when debuting (to the point where they wore outfits that made them look even younger than they were which is rarely done for boy groups) and then they had to transition into adulthood, and all of that had to be made visible. In that aspect, I really like the styling for We Young and Boom (especially when you look at them at the same time).
Tumblr media
For We Young, the styling is meant to be reminiscent of school/boy scout uniforms but with a marine vibe. It makes for playful outfits that aren’t too childish but that also aren’t grown up. I prefer the “seaside” outfits as I don’t really like school uniforms as a concept for styling and I think it’s really a choice that suited them and the song so well, it really fitted their energy. It’s playful but it also has a vintage touch to it as these outfits with their stripes and their squared flap at the back date back to the XIXth century (I just found out that it all started with the queen Victoria dressing up her kid in an outfit inspired by the royal navy uniforms for a painting after a cruise ).
Tumblr media
Boom on the other side is their first proper “grown-up” concept. We go up was already more grown up but still very “teenager-ish” and although they were mostly teenagers when they did Boom it was clear that this was supposed to be their first entry into “adulthood” as a group at least. And although they did wear a sportswear/casual outfits which is something that isn’t related to age (and I really like the black and white “skeleton” set which already feels more grown-up and more “stylish” than the other casual outfit) , they wore two other “grown-up” elements: suits and all-jean outfits.
Tumblr media
And yeah teenagers, and kids wear jeans too but a full jean-on-jean outfit is more of a “grown-up” fashion choice and it makes them look like young men rather than boys. As for the suits, I just really love when stylists play with the codes of that garment (length of the jacket, tightness of the pants, the way the shirt is tucked in…).
Tumblr media
Notice how Renjun has a really short jacket, Chenle’s pants are wide, Jeno has a tail…Once again, a really interesting aspect of Kpop is the variations of the same concept based on the members. In the mv, there is a tension between their more grown up selves (the one in suits, the one with a craft/a path) and their young selves (the one running around in the field, the one laying down in the flowers and eating a cake). And there is also in these outfits and the contrast between them this tension, this contrast…which path should they go? The jeans are the more laide back, innocent outfits, whereas the suits come with responsibilities and status (and you’ll notice that in the scene where jisung is left alone to blow his candle it’s when he’s wearing jeans not when he’s in the suits).
Now on to WayV!!
WayV are different from the two in the sense than when they debuted they couldn’t have an “age” concept or an edgy concept because 127 and dream had already taken those and I feel like for that reason they’re still looking for what makes them stand out visually from the others (and in my opinion it’s not in whatever they were wearing for turn back time!). WayV’s concept is space and time travel, it’s building a new life, a new worl, going beyond anything! In my mind, they’re either supposed to feel a bit “otherworldly” (either spectacular or literally like they’re from another world/another universe, a little bit futuristic maybe?) or to look like explorers/travellers (they have a lot of travel/transportation “gears” references in their outfits). Their MVs also have a very different production than the other nct mvs (the scale and the way it’s filmed, the sets…it’s a different approach and it’s usually much more “grand” for their title tracks). The great thing about WayvV styling is usually that they match the outfits well with the world that the mv is set in (like in Moonwalk for example you get a sense of the world they’re in and the fact that it’s not ours or at least not as we know it now through the way they dress – you can’t really say oh it’s inspired by this era or by this or that because -at least- to me it immediately gives me a vibe of something that could be worn in a sci-fi movie, almost like a costume) or that they allude to travel in their styling.
Tumblr media
When they debuted with Regular they went for a very sleek and high fashion look which worked really well for them! Even their more “casual” looks were a bit striking and I think that’s very “wayv-like” to me.
Tumblr media
Same goes for Take Off where they mix the individual styles (and I don’t like ten’s leopard fur sleeveless jacket at all) and the group concepts – the “flying” outfits and the “racing” outfits (that last one is my favourite! I love the silhouette it creates with the tight pants and the larger tops with an emphasis on the waist).
Tumblr media
There’s something a bit extra to WayV - which is why some of their outfits remind me of costumes more than fashion while at the same time they’re the most “high fashion” unit– like the “flying” outfit in Take Off are recognizable as “flying gear” but you can’t really tell what they’re flying, it feels once again like something that they could wear in like star wars or a similar kind of story.
Tumblr media
Imagine a movie about 7 men on another planet trying to come together to overcome the dark forces or whatever’s bad on their planet in a futuristic society with a mix of “traditional” and “trendy” outfits? That’s WayV. The movie the 5th Sense? That’s WayV but on steroids. They’re also the only group with actual characters in their mvs, they’re all supposed to have a backstory or an individual setting and find a way to get together in their mvs.
Anyway all that to say that it’s hard for me to pick an era for them because they’ve only had a few and they still feel like they’re looking to solidify their concept, and since moonwalk and turn back time really set the styling in different worlds than ours, you have to look at how they fit in that world rather than ours and I think Moonwalk does it best since it’s the most cohesive one visually. But then I think Regular had the best individual styling!
Okay this is super long but we’re finally getting to NCT U!!!!
Number one favourite:
Tumblr media
The Year Party outfits!!!! I’ve already talked about this but I love when they say we’ll put them in suits and then since they have to make a different one for each of them they cut bits an dpieces of the suits here and there, play with lengths. It’s not a revolutionary concept but in terms of searching for a shape, searching for variations of an already so famous, so well-known garment (everyone has seen a suit, and so many designers have already deconstructed it and then put it back together and so on) it’s so nice, it’s almost like a full collection given how many members there are and it’s just a good tailoring work.It almost feel like an exercise of how many variations of an outfit can you think of? And it looks fun to do! It’s all about the details and the way the layers are set together.
Tumblr media
The accessories add to the “formal attire” aspect of it. It almost has a ceremonial look to it. A bit of royalty with the futuristic vibe usually associated with WayV. The dark blue suits were pretty classic, the most interesting details (for me at least) were on the light blue ones. Especially since it’s a rare colour to find in formal wear or in ceremonial wear. In general, I feel like it’s a pretty rare colour in fashion outside of like shirts and baby clothes? I think it was a great styling choice for a content like the year party although I do wish they (either NCT or WayV who’ve touched upon this kind of outfit a bit already) would do a full comeback with this kind of styling (like the lighter version of the black and green outfits in SuperM’s One). It’s not revolutionary but it was something new for NCT and I really hope they use that elegant/futuristic concept once again.
Also in these outfits, the jewelry is super important and adds to the “grand” aspect of these outfits. The concept is that these aren’t ordinary outfits for ordinary men, we’re witnessing something “special” and so they aren’t wearing their usual jewels either (of course the big chains are still there but differently look at that necklace jaehyun is wearing)
Tumblr media
Honorable mention:
Boss & Baby Don’t Stop (they’re different but they go together in my mind lol). Look at them in their uniforms! And also they had doyoung wearing these sunglasses
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Ok I think I’m done, if you’ve made it this far thank you so much and I hope it was a nice read!!
As for who would I chose as my models…it really depends on what I’d make them wear tbh for menswear the things I’d like to design would either be something like formal wear or knitwear – I’d pick Lucas, Taeyong and Doyoung (I think they’re the most model-like members and could pull off pretty much anything even my non-edgy concept because I can’t do that lol and they pose very well) and then depending on the concept I’d pick between Winwin, Jaehyun, Kun, Jungwoo, Taeil, Haechan and Shotaro (the way I struggled to remember all the members at once…there are too many really)

wickymicky’s Top Ten Kpop Songs of 2020
6: NCT 127 - Kick It
The only boy group song in my top 10. That’s kind of surprising to me, because I listened to a lot more boy groups this year than I did last year. But this is how it’s worked out, I suppose. Boy groups need to step up their game. I could have easily just made this a “top ten girl group songs of the year” list, and swapped this song out for another girl group comeback and kept the other 9 songs in this list exactly the same, but idk, I do wanna talk about Kick It lol. So here we are.
NCT were a huge part of this year for me. I had been wanting to get into them for a while, and in late February/early March I decided to really dive into their music, or 127’s at least. I knew they had a comeback coming soon, so I thought it was the perfect time. And clearly... yeah lol, it was. I didn’t even know NCT 2020 was coming at the end of the year haha, nobody did, but man I really picked the perfect year to get into them, huh?
Not only is Kick It a great song with interesting experimental production (like most great 127 title tracks), it also really did wonders for them. They were already popular of course, and I’m not sure if Kick It is their biggest song ever, but it’s certainly one of the most iconic songs of the year. Pretty much every group out there has covered it, either as a full cover or just as an excerpt of the chorus choreo on a variety show or in a vlive lol. It was a phenomenon this year. I think it totally deserves it too. Listening to it just makes you feel cool as fuck. I don’t even care that some of the lyrics are kinda dumb haha, that’s something I got used to with NCT. “Lemme introduce you to some new thangs” would have been something I thought was too dumb last year, and would have turned me off of the song the same way that some of the dumber lines in Simon Says or Cherry Bomb turned me off of those songs (though I love both of them immensely now). By the time Kick It came out though, that wasn’t really an issue with me anymore. I was on board immediately. I expected it to be dumb. I craved it. IMO that’s how you enjoy 127’s music the most haha. Just lose yourself in the vibe, don’t worry about what these dudes are saying lmao. Go crazy aaaa go stupid aaaaaaaa
Anyway, yeah, god this song is great. I love how it never does the same thing the same way twice. There is so much variation throughout it, and it’s all satisfying. I know some fans are fans because of the members / other more mild songs from the group, like bsides and stuff, and may or may not really be on board with their more noisy and experimental title tracks, but those are why I’m a fan lol. I crave the noise. I like hearing things that don’t sound like anything else. And there really was not any other kpop song this year that sounded like Kick It.
links to the rest of the list: 10 - Fiesta (Izone) 9 - Crossroads (GFriend) 8 - Assa (Cignature) 7 - Boca (Dreamcatcher) 6 - Kick It (NCT 127) 5 - Cool (Weki Meki) 4 - La Di Da (Everglow) 3 - Mago (GFriend) 2 - Tag Me (Weeekly) 1 - Scream (Dreamcatcher)

iconic moment: they were doing an interview in buzzfeed about who’s who. when johnny was voted as the member with the best fashion sense, taehee explained whenever she goes shopping, bringing johnny is a must. “i go up to him,” she says while pretending to hold two pieces of clothes in her hand, “i’m like ‘what should i get?’ and he’s like,” all of the foreign members answer with her in english while the others say it in korean, “‘get both!’,” making laughter fill the studio.
taeyong — yonghee
“taeyong eomma-“
“bOOMING SYSTEM UH UH TY TRACK TY TRACK”
taehee discovered taeyong gets flustered easily during that one vlive of nct u boss, so she makes it a point to playfully flirt with him at unsuspecting times
taeyong always reminds her to not work too hard and makes her food, even if he taught her how to cook
he made her a letter when she appeared in ‘real men’ and it made her cry
iconic moment: taeyong talked about taehee during one of those deep nct life solo interviews, “taehee works very hard, and i admire that about her but i always remind her to take it easy at times. i know it’s been hard for her when it was announced that she would be debuting with us so i, along with the other members, try to be good brothers to her so she can get comfortable....honestly, she hides her problems and insecurities for our benefit and she won’t tell us until you try to ask. i just want her to open up to us and let loose at times because that’s what a family is, and we’d always be there for her.”
yuta — taeyu
anime buddies she loves haikyuu
he’s always trying to pull pranks on her
she isn’t that gullible but everything that flies out of yuta’s mouth seems like the truth so she believes everything that he says even if it’s not true
“(yuta) oppa looked so cool in his part in cherry bomb!!”
yuta: must!!! headlock!!!! taehee!!!!!
iconic moment: during vlive, a fan asked if they could marry taehee and she immediately agreed, but yuta shouted, “SHE’S NOT GETTING MARRIED UNTIL SHE’S 35 AND NOT SURROUNDED BY BOYS!!! THOSE ARE TWO CONDITIONS!!!”
doyoung — youngtae
also “doyoung eomma-“
whenever taehee does something provocative, he’d always have those wide eyes and say like “WHAT’S THIS??? WHAT ARE YOU DOING?!?”
(idol room) “you shouldn’t get into a fight with taehee. you will lose, especially if it’s a verbal fight. she’s scary....”
“once i become an adult, i want to drink with the older oppa’s.” “good.”
taehee sprained her ankle by the end of a cherry bomb performance and doyoung was the one who helped her get back to the waiting room
iconic moment: in the new nct life episode, they would be sliding down a really long and high slide while answering questions. haechan teased doyoung, who was his opponent, that they couldn’t win because of his fear of heights. he argued, “you’d lose too!! taehee’s also afraid of heights. right, taehee?,” and in response, she said, “i’m not a coward like you,” while coolly walking off. doyoung: ( ゚д゚)
jaehyun — taejae
sexy voice/adlib duo but also dimple line ( ◠‿◠ )
they did that goblin scene (the one where euntak complains that she doesn’t have a boyfriend yet and the goblin shouts that he’s the boyfriend, you know that scene? yeah that scene) for star road and when they finished taehee was like, “woah...i think my heart’s speeding up”
later in that interview, she found him the most handsome member during that day (cue a lot of complaints from the other members bc they thought it was jungwoo, meanwhile hyuck answered himself)
(nct night night) “jaehyun oppa’s voice is the type to listen to when you want to relax or fall asleep,,,great for asmr 👍”
has his hands around her waist when they stand next to each other but it’s like one of those ‘back off big brother is here’
iconic moment: nct 24-hour relay,,,mark and jaehyun taught her how to play bball and jaehyun kept on complimenting her. after taehee shot the ball while being defended by mark, he told her, “okay, goooood!! now try to get the ball from me.” “yes coach!”
winwin — wintae
cute duo tm
nct’s always onto them,,pinching their cheeks or hugging tf out of them,, they cannot and will not escape
he doesn’t like skinship but he doesn’t mind it if taehee puts her arm around his shoulder like a bro
they’re also really flexible like they showed off cutely during that one weekly idol episode
their love language is like making derp faces while finger hearting
iconic moment: while filming an nct life episode, winwin couldn’t understand the rules. mark tried to explain it to him but he failed, so when taehee tried to explain in to him with actions, he understood immediately. (cue smug taehee)
jungwoo — junghee
taehee’s got a crush on him from empathy era and it disappeared somewhere around superhuman era,,and then it went back during kick it
when he got back, taehee kept hanging out with him because she missed him
“yOU THINK HE’S CUTE BUT HE’S GOT AB-“ jungwoo quickly covers her mouth, pushing them off frame (vlive)
“oppawhatdoyouwantforyourbirthday?” “you.” “w h a t”
back hugs back hugs back hugs back hugs back hugs
iconic moment: (as4u) “honestly, i had a slight crush on jungwoo oppa when he first joined,” (mark: Oiiiiiii) and jungwoo was flustered but he managed to get out a “ʳᵉᵃˡˡʸ﹖,” and then taehee continued, “his looks are my type.”
mark — markhee
best friends since they joined the company
they arrived in sm the same day and mark thought her name was joanie after hearing her mom call her that when she was being dropped off, so whenever they talk in english he calls her joanie
and she appreciates that bc she gets reminded of home
they’re smart during work but then all the brain cells come out when they’re outside
*mark choking on water bc he drank too fast* *taehee panics and gives him more water* *mark drinks the water and chokes more* taeyong yelling “THAT’S NOT HOW YOU DO THAT”
iconic moments: markhee’s not all soft, they have their sexy saxophone moments too especially during performances and it makes czennies fLIP. like that one concert fancam of mark blew up and it was when they were singing the bridge part their faces got so close. “yeah at this moment see right on time, ay,” taehee grabbed mark’s tie and pulled him closer, while mark put his hands on her waist while singing his verse. their foreheads were touching and they both internally smirked when they heard the fans’ screams. the effect they had on czennies.....
haechan — taehyuck
if you think junghee/markhee was the most popular ship then uR WRONG ITS TAEHYUCK
“(aegyo) i like noona too much” *vomit noises* hyuck just wants to love her but she keeps pushing him away
but she’s kind of a tsundere when it comes to him so when he asked for a kiss during an interview she gave him one while sporting a disgusting face ofc
their ship edits mostly consist of their vlive moments hyuck’s always so touchy with her
they learn dances together random dance king and queen
iconic moments: hyuck professing his love to her during vlive. “i’m gonna marry noona one day-“ he gets hit on the back of the head by doyoung while she laughs, “don’t say things like that.” and he retaliates by saying he’s got his future planned out and marrying her is one of them. there was also this one time only the two of them were doing a vlive and taehee was reading the comments. “lee donghyuck, do you love me?” *hyuck, sincerely, while looking at her* “jeon taehee, i really really really love you.” ........ “that was a comment” expect that to be used in edits too

honestly bts has amazing songs and stunning performances, no one will take away that they are indeed talented. nct’s music might sound like noise to some people but, let’s be honest here, the uniqueness of their music makes them interesting.
nct is one of the (if not the) biggest groups in kpop memberwise and even though that may discourage new fans from stanning, it makes nct extremely versatile. their vocal line is no joke, their rappers are incredible and some members of their dance line are considered to be among the best of the generation. the fact that the members are from different countries makes the groups more open to culture and helps satisfying fans from outside korea (eg. johnny with jcc, mark speaking english often, yangyang and ten doing insta lives and speaking in english).
nct’s performances are a complete separate topic: in one hand you have the rough, “bad boy”, cocky concepts like fire truck, cherry bomb or boss; then you have the “cute / light” concepts like nct dream’s chewing gum, my first and last or wayv’s dream launch or nct127’s touch; then there also is the “darker / expensive / au!-like” concepts like regular, boss (again), boom, take off, turn back time, kick it or bad alive; and let’s not forget the ballads and slow/ melancholic songs that we love: no longer, timeless, long slow distance, dear dream, from home, etc.
and ON THE OTHER HAND, you have the “noisy” music like chain, simon says, punch, black on black or resonance.
the thing is: if there is one thing every kpop stan can give sm entertainment credit for, is their capacity to innovate. nct, just like f(x), put out things that people were not expecting. “wierd” and “different” songs are what make them trend setters, and then you can see other idols within the industry use similar concepts.
and even then, i only mentioned the more “popular” songs or the one that have an official m/v, but we also have a great selection of amazing and underrated b-side tracks like 0 mile, mad dog, walk you home, faded in my last song, face to face, domino, 119, summer 127... baby, don’t even get me started on their stations (dream in a dream is so underrated, it would be a crime).
oh and let’s not forget the iconic hoe anthems: whiplash, baby don’t like it, baby don’t stop, drippin, love talk, amongst many others.
nct’s albums contain a variety of songs to choose from and it guarantees that you’ll never be bored, and all of that combined with the amount of content that nctzens get daily, we’re more than happy^^
so, at the end of the day if you love bts or any other kpop group, you must understand how hard it is for them to deal with all the hardships and critiques they receive on a daily basis, so don’t go around hating on other groups because at the end of the day, those groups make people’s days and make them happy just like your faves make you happy.

I CAN DO NOTHING BUT AGREE

Jaehyun was indeed HAWT in punch. My God I love him so much now, and part of this love is your fault, because I read all your entries here. I think at first I didn't like him because of his facial expression. He can come across as sort of cold, or snob. So I judged him for it. Then a friend of mine used to tease me sending Jaehyun gifs regularly and say "look at your boyfriend", and suddenly he was warming up to me. But I remember the turning point. I watched his relay cam from 2019, because I was watching all of them, and I decided not to skip. Something about that relay cam changed my impression of him. He was so low-key and calm in it, that I realized it didn't match the snob cold impression. He didn't seem pretentious like I thought. He was a cool guy.
About Cherry Bomb, I watched it for the choreo. The black and white version. I could only tell who Taeyong and Mark were. But I kept watching and watching and loving it. I didn't bother to watch the MV and I still don't care for it. I like seeing them dance it. It's one of the best choreos in kpop I think almost everyone can agree. Then someone sent me Kick It. I think it had just come out. I love martial arts movies, so that caught my attention. Also Taeyong, I was instantly hooked on him, with the blond hair and the chest out hahahaha (shameless). The more I listened to Kick It, the more I liked it. So I started watching them on shows or the videos on nct channel and got to know each one of them. So when Punch came out I was already stanning the group super hard.
I just actively ignored Jaehyun until we made up. A funny thing: he's Valentine boy, and I'm named Valentine. That helped me like him I think hahahahahaha.
During Punch promotion Jae was in the midst of the 97-line scandal, so he was down, protective walls in place.
The mafia boss and the rock star in black leather images are spectacular, but aren’t very inviting. There is too much of a dissonance between the cool image and Jaehyun. It can be perceived that the images are inorganic. Wakey-wakey image is also cool, but is much more like him, and thus is more loveable. Jaehyun is cheeky, if an image has this component, than it’s organic to him.
It’s the hairband.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And an inviting image, that makes you want to know the idol after watching.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I’m waiting for 127′s comeback. It looks like Jaehyun is gradually loosens up again. At least he was more like himself in The Next Neo model. He used to be kind of laid back, but now he is guarded and tense most of the time.

in december i wrote a 2020 year music review for myself that i intended to post here BUT...because i was infamously restricted twice last year, i didn’t bother since you wouldn’t be able to read it anyway because it was not possible to view my blog hjfdhfd
now that my restricted era is (hopefully forever) over i just want to post it here for the sake of completion since i want to do the same thing this year
this is really long so if you actually read it ... idk you are insane in the membrane and i love you... but i genuinely don’t expect anyone to read this hjfdhjf i just like reflecting on the music i have listened to and be able to look back on what i enjoyed in certain stages of my life! okiiii bye 💗
january
mac miller - circles (album) it’s a bit funny that i worried putting my thoughts down about this album and now it turns out to be first on the list, chronologically of course … oh bittersweet irony </3 listening to this album is such a double edged sword, either way i am always hit with a truckload of feelings when i turn to this release.
this album came to me in a time of my life where i was slowly but surely sliding down towards rock bottom again just after i got out of it and thought i was okay. the times i’ve listened to this crying in the bathtub with a glass of wine….girl let’s not lol…. it’s almost strange how much i can relate to the thoughts another person brought to paper. the comfort this album brings me is otherworldly, i feel so understood by mac’s words and it’s my go-to “wallow in self-pity for a bit then come out stronger than before” album. then again, i feel a little sting when any of mac’s songs come on shuffle. a friend of mine said she cannot listen to artists who have passed because it feels too strange and most of the time i agree but this time, it’s so so different. this album would have been mac’s salvation, i can feel it. everything would have been a bit brighter and lighter for him after this, it would have had to be. i feel like i would do him a disservice if i did not listen to this album, so i will cherish this final gift from him as his legacy and my comfort. i miss him incredibly and am all the more thankful he shared his heart with us.
album favs: circles, good news, surf
tiny meat gang - broke bitch (single) MAN I TELL THAT BROKE BITCH IF YOU WANNA GET IN TUNE BETTER CHANGE YOUR WHOLE PITCH LIKE WOAH !!!!!!!!!! did that give you whiplash? hehe funny to say this about a song called broke bitch by a duo called tiny meat gang but this song actually means a lot to me! it came out shortly before their show in berlin and i almost exclusively listened to it on my 7+ hours train ride from one side of the country to the other to see my meat boys. this played out of the fat ass speakers at the venue when they stepped on the stage and i will never forget meeting them :’) also the song fucking slaps obviously
february
loona - [#] (mini album) ah yes, the most controversial loona release to date! i’m not gonna lie and say this sounded anything like i expected it to. but also, i have come to terms with the fact that loona release noise music now and personally i am here for it. why not did not have the endless energy of hi high or otherworldly vibe of butterfly, but it’s a hype song and i am always there for hype. i also have to say the b-sides were not as strong for me as on previous releases but i think i have to come to peace with the fact that loona will never top their debut mini for me. though if i can wish for one thing…… let loona have title tracks with a chorus in 2021? pls? crumbs?
album favs: so what, oh (yes i am)
tame impala - the slow rush (album) *lights cigarette* i’m listening to pretty underground music….i don’t think you’ve heard of this band….they are called tame impala *intro of the less i know the better starts playing* yes i am a basic white bitch and listen to like 3 alternative bands but damn i listen to them religiously. like any other basic bitch on this planet i found out about tame impala through the less i know the better and checked out their music. i wasn’t too much into this album as i was into currents but towards the end of the year, i was in a moody alternative music slump that took me back to this album and i like it a lot more now! most importantly, tame impala fulfills my primitive urge to listen to songs that exceed the 4 minute mark. something clicks in my brain when i see a song that is like 6:34 and chances that it ends up as one of my faves on a album are high. i enjoy tiktok like everyone else but this trend of 2:50 long songs needs to be stopped immediately.
album favs: borderline, lost in yesterday, it might be time, is it true, posthumous forgiveness
honorary mentions: onlyoneof - dOra maar, everglow - dundun
march
nct 127 - neo zone (album) ah, yes. the album that fundamentally changed me as a person <3 i’ve been listening to nct for a while, matter of fact i checked my top tracks 2019 playlist on spotify and cherry bomb was on there lol. i remember trying to get into them in 2018 when they released their regular-irregular album but the endless member & unit concept scared me off, so i only listened to a handful of songs without looking into them march 2020, the fateful month in which they released kick it and screencaps of jaehyun’s sexy ass tiddies in the kick it mv landed on my tumblr or twitter and i HAD to look up who this man is…...remember when i thought jaehyun was my ult for like, 2 weeks? me neither, johnny suh only in this house <3
anyway, i checked out this album and by god, is this pure kpop perfection. last time i listened to a god tier no skip album like this was … maybe the perfect red velvet? hype songs, well crafted ballads, love songs that make me wanna learn the lyrics, genuinely fun and interesting pop songs, this album has it all. somehow, the way this album is crafted greatly reminds me of brown eyed girls’ sound-g, it has the same vibe, concept and mix of genres to me, i’m not entirely sure how to explain. anyway, this album is one of my favorites of all time and even though i’ve obsessively listened to it (lastfm says 1.4k scrobbles as of today, december 7th…) i am still not tired of this. i recommend this to anyone who loves kpop tbh, you will have a good time with this!
other than being just a musically solid album, the emotional ties i have with this are …. isabel stop making albums your emotional support 2021 challenge. i’ve listened to this release all spring lockdown, this basically played at every waking hour for all of march and april. the promotion time of this era and lockdown are deeply intertwined for me and so i am always remembered of all the nct content i consumed during that time which inevitably cheered me up so much. this album really means a lot to me :’)
album favs: kick it, mad dog, love song, boom
honorary mentions: itzy - wannabe,
the weeknd - after hours (album) my dear melchanoly, was one of my favorite releases of 2018, so i had been desperate for a new release by abel and boy did he not disappoint. the perfect thotty, dirty emo 80s, making it clap while crying in the club album! this is a no skip from top to bottom and all i can say is that the grammys can go to hell <3 abel aoty! there is really not much i can say about this album, the flawless production, lyrics and sound speak for themself. my only criticism is that i feel overwhelmed by 14 songs, especially when some of them are really long. a few songs greatly overshadow the weaker tracks on the album for me but i still love this to death.
album favs: escape from LA, blinding lights, after hours, faith
dua lipa - future nostalgia (album) after the weeknd’s masterpiece of an 80s inspired pop album i was really looking forward to this. i greatly enjoyed the pre-releases, i played don’t start now and physical up and down, they are still some of my favorite songs released this year! when i first listened to the album i really liked it, songs like boys will be boys or pretty please sound like fillers to be but the rest is solid. yet a month after release you couldn’t catch me listening to this and i cannot even really tell you why. i think it was a combination of the following: 1) i greatly overplayed dsn and physical to the point where i didn’t want more of the pop 80s sound that the album has 2) there were other releases at the time that caught my attention and interest more like neo zone or after hours 3) dua herself….girl….she really gave it her all this year to make herself as unlikeable as possible. nationalist propaganda and the constant traveling during a fucking pandemic were really the kicker. i can barely stand seeing her on my instagram feed anymore, much less listen to her album. her having the nerve to go “we’re in a pandemic lol” when people asked about an animated music video …. if you don’t shut the hell up lmao … also, she takes the crown for the corniest album opener of all time. i nearly closed spotify when i heard future nostalgia (the song) lmao
album favs: don’t start now, physical, levitating, hallucinate
honorary mentions: megan thee stallion - savage
april
apink - dumhdurum (song)
listen, i’m not gonna sit here and pretend like this mini album interested me in the slightest but god, the title is such a banger.i’m so sick, eung eung and dumhdurum are a holy trilogy that i will defend until the end of time! i really hope apink stick to this mature, elegant concept, it suits them so well and goes well with their new sound. come back soon queens <3
rina sawayama - xs (song) i feel like i’m gonna catch some hands here … xs is an absolute banger, the guitar riffs and disruptive sounds really get me going every damn time! but the rest of the album … tell me why it doesn’t catch me?! i literally cannot explain. i need to take an hour, sit down and do nothing but listen to the album from top to bottom once again and see if my thoughts change but right now i only care about xs.
chungha - stay tonight (song) drama! vocals! dance break! choreography! this release served it all. i listened to this obsessively during the time of the release and it still holds up today. can we talk about the run chungha had with gotta go > snapping > stay tonight? lord have mercy.
honorary mentions: april - lalalilala, nct dream - ridin’
may
lady gaga - chromatica (album) the immense disappointment i have in this album is tough to put into words lol. any other artist might have gotten away with this release but gaga having the discography that she has, well … she doesn’t get away with it. this has underwhelming all over it. i enjoyed the pre-releases and my hope was high but the rest just doesn’t live up what i expected, i can’t even say why. it’s just underwhelming pop for someone of gaga’s calibre. i listened to this album during release week and then never again till december to write this list and i can see why.
album favs: rain on me, sour candy ft. blackpink, stupid love
baekhyun - delight (mini album) it’s confession time … this is a name i never would have expected on any of my music lists to end up. exo has always been one of those boy groups i casually listened to. i greatly enjoy their title tracks and a handful of side tracks, i have a few members that i keep an eye on more than others but that’s about it. baekhyun was never one of those members i had any interest in, matter of fact i always thought he was kinda vanilla and boring 😭 i didn’t even plan on listening to this release if it wasn’t for his association with superm and thus nct, so i gave it a shot and we have no choice but to stan. his voice is like butter and can cut sharp at the same time, his versatility is insane. i dived a bit more into baekhyun related content and he is so likeable, it’s almost ridiculous. this production is absolute god tier, not a single skip on this mini. late spring/early summer i had this weird urge to listen to songs with mellow voices but still a banger instrumental and i wholeheartedly blame this release. matter of fact, this album is so good, i had to buy a physical copy. Y’ALL. THIS IS A BIG DEAL. i haven’t bought a kpop album of anyone that’s not holy top 3 (brown eyed girls, loona, nct) in like … idk, 5 years?! baekhyun’s impact. i’m a fan now <3
album favs: candy, r u ridin’?, love again
ak aussenkontrolle - in meinem benz (song) this … is very unrelated to this entirely list but i had to put it on here. i miss my ex boss and our 3 hour drives to meetings in the south of the country where we would blast trashy german rap music </3
nct 127 - neo zone: the final round (repackage) *airhorns* REEEPACKAGE TIIIIIME!!! my first nct era that i experienced from start to finish! i remember watching nct 127’s beyond live with luna where these mfs performed punch and we finished the concert having no idea what this song sounded like. the structure is so unusual and the intro catches me off-guard every time just to hype me up beyond compare. not gonna lie, the fact that johnny has exactly one (1) line hurts but! it’s my favorite line of the entire song! possibly related to the fact that it’s his line but let’s ignore that ….
album favs: punch, make your day
kim woo seok - red moon (song) i’m not even gonna lie to you. i have not a single idea who this man is. you could put him right in front of me and i wouldn’t know … all i know is that he has a banger song. i saw him perform this on a music show that i watched for nct and i ended up loving the song … thanks for your service sir, whoever you are ...
june
stray kids - go live (album) 2020 was kind of the year of boy groups for me, i’m so sorry … stray kids promoted simultaneously with nct 127 so i ended up hearing their title track and holy hell, is that a song. god’s menu is hype from start to finish. it reminds me of good ol’ 2nd gen noise boy group song a lá b*g b*ng fantastic baby. just pure hype and fun noise. i am forever grateful to witness the birth of the line cooking like a chef, i’m a five star michelin. the title track impressed me so much that i ended up checking out the entire album which i rarely ever do with boy groups and what is even rarer is that i enjoyed the b sides lmao!!! it’s not an album that i would put on and just enjoy from start to finish but it has some really solid tracks! this release made me want to keep an eye on stray kids, they seem like a really fun bunch.
album favs: god’s menu, TA, airplane
seventeen - left & right (song) the boy group run continues … same thing with stray kids, seventeen promoted during punch era so i heard their song while watching some music station show for nct and i heard this and was sold. solid, fun pop with the catchiest pre-chorus in history and a banger chorus. i listened to the entire mini and can’t say it really caught my interest so this is a title track only release for me.
dishonorary mentions: twice - more & more (i hate this song so much lol)
honorary mentions: ryu sejeong - tiger eyes, monsta x - fantasia, chloe x halle - do it
july
irene & seulgi - monster (mini) this is a weird release because it’s good. the title track is fun enough, the b sides are dope. but my issue with this is that it’s nothing new. this sounds exactly like a red velvet release. i get that they didn’t want to a  joy, seulgi, irene, yeri release only and went for the sub-unit route instead, but why not be experimental and stray away from the usual sound of the group? also, whoever made monster and not naughty the title track deserves to be spat on. at least the choreography here is more interesting and “experimental” for kpop standards. also, why only a seulgi solo and no irene? i have no idea how reveluvs reacted to this release but this has rushed written all over it.
album favs: monster, naughty (i’m counting this to the mini idc), uncover
exo-sc - 1 billion views (mini) doing my part as a filthy casual exo listener. this release goes in the same category as baekhyun’s delight where i like the album so much that i HAD to get a physical copy. i don’t know what they put in the title track for it to be so diddly darn addictive but it clearly worked. the only bad thing about this release is how criminally mismanaged it was by sm, when i get you lee sooman ...
album favs: 1 billion views, on me, say it
baekhyun - garden in the air (song) i told you i’m a loyal baekhyun fan now <3 king releases and i listen, that’s just how it goes now! this is a cover of a boa song and i really love his version. there is not much to say except that it’s a really smooth song and his voice absolutely carries the track. i enjoyed this much more than i thought i would!
hyoyeon - dessert (song) YOU KNOW WHAT I DESERVE??? DESSERT!!!!!!! *insert tik tok challenge here* imagine if miryo featured on this instead of the ethnic hip girl … why can’t we have nice things. anyway, a banger!
johnny - sunny side up episode 1 set (spotify playlist, actual set) johnny being the skilled, talented, multi-faceted king that he is has been dj-ing since before debut (not me acting like i was around at that time lmao) and thus he decided to bless our quarantined, lockdowned asses with an online dj set! that was the most turned up sunday morning i ever had in my entire life. this set kicked off an edm/house/techno affinity that i had for the following couple of weeks. this set is an absolute banger, i would go insane to this in the club. he has an amazing ear for transitions and drops and i still just put on this set on the regular when i have cleaning to do or so. he could fill the void that rona and thus no clubbing in 2020 left in my heart and i’m so happy he decided to share this with us <3 now … john … sunny side up episode 2 pspspspspsps
honorary mentions: gfriend - apple, jessi - nunu nana
august
cardi b ft. megan thee stallion - wap (song) late summer 2021. we are vaccinated, icu beds are free, barely any new cases, clubs are open, this song plays and i can finally make it fucking clap.
troye sivan - in a dream (mini album) a cute mini album! nothing life-changing or as exciting as previous releases but easy (haha!) to enjoy. i really, really enjoy easy, can always count on troye for a dreamy sound.
album favs: easy
honorary mentions: itzy - not shy
september
wonho - love synonym pt. 1: right for me (mini album) honestly? i know like, 3 monsta x songs. i never bothered to get into them and maybe i never will, but it was difficult to ignore the whole wonho & monsta x mess that went on. i have absolutely no memory of why i decided to check out this release, i guess i was curious what he was going to do and … i was positively surprised lol. open mind is the exact time of song i had been so desperate all summer (remember mellow vocals with banger instrumentals? yeah) and uhm … can’t ignore the obvious … mr wonho is fucking fine. sir, you just gained a fan … now, where is love synonym part 2?? huh?????
album favs: open mind, i just, losing you
joji - nectar (album) this one is on tiktok. i heard gimme love in a bunch of tiktoks and had to look up the song and here we are. what an album! it came right as seasonal depression started to hit and accompanied me for a good chunk of autumn. at this point one has to ask if joji can ever really miss? the entire album is a no skip, it’s almost difficult to narrow down my favorites if my favorites weren’t so damn god tier!!!
album favs: gimme love, ew, tick tock, pretty boy, your man
super m - tiger inside / 100 / drip (songs) okay, listen. technically tiger inside & 100 were already released in august. instead of those three songs i was gonna write about the entire album until i realized i really don’t give a fuck about it 😭 i really only care about those three songs. and YES, i unironically like 100. is it a good song? no. but neither is jopping and that fucking bangs. i don’t turn to superm for life-changing, profound music, i turn to them for a good time LOL and that’s what they deliver every time! that being said, taeyong’s VROOM VROOM, UHMM UHMM, GRRRAHHHH verse is life-changing and profound! speak your truth king! also i wish drip was a b side for nct 127 that song is so damn sexy
taemin - never gonna dance again act 1 (album) this isn’t kpop, this is taemin pop. taemin never misses and the fact that hw*s* won dance performance over taemin is a literal hate crime. i will never forget the industry for this daylight robbery … anyway, nice album!!!!
album favs: criminal, black rose, waiting for
stray kids - in life (repackage) *airhorns* REPACKAGE TIIIIME 2.0!!!! i was on the edge of my seat waiting what stray kids were going to deliver after i greatly enjoyed god’s menu. i was still not over listening god’s menu when the repackage came out so i didn’t listen to it right away and now i greatly regret the few days i could have listened to back door earlier </3
album favs: back door, any
jackson wang - pretty please (song) i’m not gonna pretend like i ever listened to a song by jackson ever before. he is short king from got7 in my head and that’s all! i don’t even remember why i listened to this song but all i know is that it slaps severely. i love the wong kar wai inspired music video and the choreography is fun too! i’m gonna check out more of his music <3
honorary mentions: fromis9 - feel good, knk - ride
october
blackpink - the album (album, duh) i don’t even know what to say about this … this might be the weirdest release on the list for me. there are song i absolutely fucking hate (ice cream …) and songs i get my life to (pretty savage) on here and the discrepancy just gives me massive whiplash. i would never put this album on and listen to the whole body of work, i just cannot with the brain damage it gives me. i am still stuck in 2016, begging for bp to release music like whistle/boombayah/stay/playing with fire but i think i need to give up on that wishful thinking … i am just grateful we a got a title track with actual lyrics in the chrous for once.
album favs: pretty savage, lovesick girls
nct - nct 2020 resonance pt. 1 (album) this era was … a ride. nct 2020 happening was near inevitable but with covid it got pushed back so far, i started to believe it wasn’t even going to happen. i was semi-terrified of what was going to happen during a comeback with 21 (now 23!!) member group since i only experienced nct 127 comebacks so far and uhh … a LOT happened lmfao but let’s keep this about the album … i had no idea what was going to hit me. johnny having effectively 3 lines in nct 2018 did not give me much hope and after he got denoted to no line treatment in punch again, i was ready to not even have any expectation but this release changed everything. make no mistake that most of my favorite songs are units with johnny, we knew that was gonna happen lmaooo they dropped the teaser video for misfit and i thought i had my favorite song in the bag and then faded in my last song happened. y’all. JOHNNY SINGS? LIKE? ACTUALLY SINGS? DOESN’T GET FORCED TO RAP OR TALK-SING? MY MAN’S VOCALS??? OH MY GAAAAHD! this song is dramatic, theatrical, emo, it serves vocals and rap, it has catchy english and korean lyrics, this is THE song, the ULTIMATE song. i love this song so much, i want to belt it on top of my lungs in the pouring rain. apart from fimls, i also loveeee misfit, that was to be expected after i was going completely insane over the track video. johnny has like 3 lines but again they are iconic (WARNIN’! NCT WE MOBBIN’!) and i just enjoy the track too much to be upset over that. nectar. holy fuck. nectar!!!! wayv never disappoints with their thotty songs, they now have an absolute god tier hoe-ly song trinity with love talk > bad alive > nectar. the first chorus and hendery’s first verse (CHOP CHOP CHOP!) get me every time, this song is so insanely good i am severely upset i cannot sing along to it :( music, dance has nct 127 written all over it in bold letters, it’s so inherently 127’s sound!!!! i love this song so much, it’s so fun, upset and has massive dance-ability, i wish we had gotten a stage for it but i guess you can’t have everything in life </3 make a wish……………………………..the cursed unit. i don’t want to say anything about this except that, unfortunately, the song is fun and i enjoy it. the end. overall, this album is so insanely solid. i know i talk about my favorites A LOT but i genuinely do not dislike a single song on here, this is an absolute no skip album! that’s it. see you for resonance part 2!!!!!
album favs: FADED IN MY LAST SONG !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!, misfit, nectar, music dance, make a wish
loona - 12:00 (mini album) controversial loona release 2.0! i don’t know what it is, but somehow they managed to lace the words di da dam di dam di dam dam dam dam di dam (yeah) with pure crack. i fucking love why not, i would even go as far to say it’s my 2nd favorite title track. that is right, i think it’s better than butterfly (btw: hi high > why not > butterfly > so what). so much was strange this comeback, from the inexplicable concept + teasers, the outfits, the styling (yves….i mourn your hot girl era) but the title track is just SO good, SO fun, SO catchy that i am willing to ignore it all. i also enjoy the b sides much more than on #, they are much more memorable to me. and now … HASEUL RETURN…………….i purely live to see the next loona comeback at this point
album favs: why not, voice, universe
twice - i can’t stop me (song) thank fuck twice released a good song this year. if more & more had been the only 2020 release, that would have been the real tragedy. not gonna lie, i still haven’t listened to the full album, it just keeps slipping my mind. but! i’m going to! until then i’m gonna bop to i can’t stop me.
ariana grande - positions (album) the way this album has people upset is so funny. i am a huge dangerous woman fan myself, it’s my fave ariana album to date but she has said repeatedly that this is not the sound she is striving for. now she has her coin and can do whatever she wants in music and if that is r’n’b then fuck! we have to live with it! lmao! i can live with the sex theme of the album because it’s delivered in a fun way? but it’s getting a bit old...if the next album is about riding dick only too idk how much i would enjoy that. i would probably always come back to ari because i like her voice so much but girl, there are other topics to sing about, i promise! anyway! i like this album, it’s one of those where i can hit shuffle and enjoy it in the background while doing other stuff.
album favs: positions, 34 + 35, love language, my hair, pov
tiny meat gang - sofia (song) ayyy, it’s my meat boys :’) ending the year the same way they started it, with a banger! i absolutely love the guitar instrumental, the melancholic love song type sound paired with the theme of singing about loving a robot … yup, that’s creativity and talent right here! this makes me so freaking desperate for a new ep and i genuinely have no idea how far or close we are to one but!!! i am always waiting!!!
noel - push (ep) this is something i absolutely did not expect. noel (of tiny meat gang!) released his first ep ever and i was absolutely wowed. noel has it all, the voice, the talent, the creativity and all it took him was the confidence to finally put something out and i’m so happy he did. he gets real personal on bus back, more than ever before and i always get a bit emo listening to this track </3 this man is gonna go places and i’m so happy to witness his journey.
album favs: crow, head sunk, bus back
honorary mentions: sam smith - diamonds
november
taemin - never gonna dance again act 2 (album) i’m gonna say it. idea is better than criminal. the chorus drop???? when he goes MY AH AH  MY AH AH MY AH MY IDEA MY MY IDEAAAAAA A-A-A A-A-A???? bitch … tell me you can sit still, i won’t believe you. i like part 2’s title track more, but part 1’s b sides are more interesting to me. either way, taemin delivered as expected!!
album favs: idea, impressionable, exclusive
nct - nct 2020 resonance pt. 2 (album) part two, baby! we made it! part 2 had more mellow, ballad-y songs with my everything, i.o.u. and all about you, overall less drama than part 1 but i still enjoyed it. work it is one of those controversial songs where you despise it with your entire being or you defend this top tier noise till the end and i am absolutely the latter. the agony of not being able to listen to it and seeing the timeline so divided nearly killed me, but i have concluded that people who hate work it have never felt joy in their life <3 honestly my opinion cannot be counted because i eat up anything johnny participates in … biased ass… what i’m not gonna talk about is resonance (the song), this absolute mess of a “remix”. the audacity sm had to release this as a single is insane. anyway!! this era was a rollercoaster ride. all the interactions truly made me interested in members of other units more. hendery (the rise and fall …), yangyang my beautiful son, jeno aka blue hair guy, chenle the chaos kid and xiaojun after he made make a wish his bitch in particular! all the interactions between the units were so fun to witness and it was fun while it lasted but i am … so glad it’s over lol. i miss nct 127, i miss some peace, i hope the boys get to rest for a bit and so does my bank account.
album favs: work it, 90s love, i.o.u., raise the roof
miley cyrus - plastic hearts (album) not in a thousand years would i have expected a miley release to be on here. this girl does everything to be absolutely unlikeable in my eyes but after severely banging out to her heart of glass cover, i was really excited for this and it did not disappoint. what is disappointing is that it took her so long to find a sound that fits her like a glove. i believe many people miss out on this release after her previous history and i nearly would have done the same. this alt/rock influenced pop does her voice so many favors and i really hope she sticks to this direction, i love this album greatly!!
album favs: heart of glass, midnight sky, night crawling ft. billy joel, wtf do i know
kai - kai (mini album) just. imagine debuting with an album like that. lol. what a god tier big dick move. we all knew whatever this release was gonna be, above all it was going to be sexy and boy were we RIGHT!!!! mmmh is exactly as thotty as i needed it to be and the b sides give me everything from r’n’b to trap. i love this release and i love that it’s only the beginning of kai! like!! he is only gonna gain even more experience and become even more powerful!! what the fuck!!!!!
album favs: mmmh, ride or die, hello stranger, nothing on me
honorary mentions. gfriend - mago
december
nothing? wtf?? 😭 no interesting release happened,,,,half the time i listened to christmas songs anyway lol
pre 2020 releases i only found this year
mgmt - little dark age (album, 2018) & oracular spectactular (album, 2007) another tiktok serve. i found little dark age through a tiktok trend and ended up really liking mgmt. they fit perfectly into my autumn/winter moody alt/rock mood that i had going on and i’m happy they have so much more music that i can check out!
artist favs: little dark age, electric feel, time to pretend
tame impala - currents (album, 2015) everyone’s favorite basic alt bitch album! i enjoyed this more than the slow rush for a good chunk of time, it also fit right into my alt rock autumn mood. i really love this album, like previously mentioned it has my favorite long ass tracks on there but also a good amount of short or medium long tracks. i’m still busy enjoying currents and the slow rush but i can’t wait till i finally take the leap to dive into their other releases because i’m loving everything i’ve heard so far.
album favs: the less i know the better, let it happen, new person same old mistakes
joji - ballads 1 (2018) after liking nectar so much, checking joji out was a given and i just love this album. only when i listened to this i realized i heard slowly dancing in the dark a few times on tiktok lmao that cursed app man … i would say i love nectar a bit more but this is still a fantastic album!!
album favs: slowly dancing in the dark, attention, test drive, yeah right
jus2 - focus (mini album, 2019) in my “mellow moody bangers” phase i was scouring playlists for more songs and i think i found focus on me first which fitted right into the niche i was looking to fill and i ended up enjoy this whole release! only later i realized this is a sub-unit from got7 lmao how come i enjoy solo or unit releases by got7 members but their group discography never interested me? anyway, very sexy ep!
album favs: drunk on you, focus on me, love talk
knk - sunset (song, 2019) part of my mellow bangers playlist. very sexy, i can imagine this as a runway song! i have no idea who knk are but given the fact i enjoyed two of their songs so far maybe i should look into them lol
baekhyun - city lights (mini album, 2019) i am repenting for my sins of missing out on baekhyun releases by consuming his music at an exorbitant rate. un village is one hell of a title track that i didn’t appreciate before, but i feel like in 2020 my music interests started to vary and i love the groovy r’n’b and string sound of this song so much. i also love stay up to death, the vocals baekhyun serves here are unreal. his BABY WE CAN STAY UP!!!!!!! gets me every single time!!!! what a mini!
album favs: un village, stay up
mac miller - swimming (album, 2018) i’ve listened to this album before 2020 but i had the urge to put this on here. this is going to sound so corny, but if i had to pick one song to be my life’s title track, it would be ladders. the hope this song gives me is unreal, it feels like a light at the end of the tunnel. this album is so fantastic, i love the upbeat instrumentals paired with sometimes gloomy lyrics are so incredible, mac was truly one of the greatest artists of our time. this album is  so outstanding and i miss him every day.
album favs: ladders, jet fuel, 2009, self care, perfecto
doja cat - hot pink (album, 2019) i can never decide if i like doja or not but the album slaps lol that’s it come on tiktok queen
album favs: say so, juicy, like that, streets
my fav 2020 playlists
slapping mellow
neo culture technology
malcolm
why go to therapy when this playlist exists?

Music Monday #172: NCT 127 - Punch  release: May 2020 genre: K-pop
Given that they were in that Derulo MV last week, I'd meant to feature them right after Lay's feature, but then Stuff happened and the weekend was awful, so even more delay. Whoops. Yeah, you know you missed me and my rambling shizznit over the weekend~ ;)
With over half of 127's members being rappers for NCTs other subunits, it's then perhaps not a surprise when I say 127's tracks lean into the strength of their rap line to varying degrees - some, like "Punch," are about half and half, some, like "Superhuman," are more lyrical that rap, and some, like "Cherry Bomb," are much more rapped than sung. Their dance routines also tend more towards b-boying and less of the pretty boy look that's the usual for idol groups ... except they're all still Neos, so still a bunch of pretty boy idols. ;) As they're now coming up on their fifth anniversary as a unit, there's a lot of MVs to choose from, including Japanese PVs from their releases in that country as well, so it took me rather awhile to settle, but "Punch" won the advantage due to both being relatively new (shit, they're probably going to put out another release in a couple months, too; at this rate, poor Mark is never going to sleep again) and somewhat balanced between their styles. "Punch" somewhat sits in that liminal space of not really being a dance beat but not being not a dance beat either, with a bit more EDM than, say, "Simon Says" or "Kick It." As for where 127 fits into the SM Creative Universe ... that probably depends on who you ask. SMCU has been years in the producing and doled out in such scattered bits and pieces that pulling it all back together could be its own masters' thesis. So far, the evidence, such as it is, suggests 127 is either syndicate or paramilitary, with the latter theory having a slight edge if only because members Taeyong and Mark are part of SM's "Avengers" unit, SuperM. Considering there are at least five and maybe as many as ten (or more?) years of clues to comb through to put together into a coherent lore ... yeah. Maybe you could do a which era was the best look for each 127 member? Maybe this is too long of an ask but I’m so curious
I think I’ve done this before, but since it’s been a long time, I will do it again. Since someone else is bound to ask, I will write which era I like for every unit. 💚
Taeil: REGULAR!!! The red hair was beautiful. The styling was sexy. It was an era where Taeil started opening up more.
Johnny: I think Kick It is my favorite era. This was one of the first times I feel like everything was centered around Johnny. It was nice seeing him comfortable. He also looked very, very hot.
Taeyong: Out of all Taeyong’s styles and eras, Empathy era will always be my favorite. He looked gorgeous in Baby Don’t Stop (red hair, eyebrow slit, the outfits!!).
Yuta: He fits every era, in my opinion. I think my personal favorite has to be Cherry Bomb. In terms of which era brought out the most in him, Kick It.
Kun: Take Over the Moon era!! The grey hair and the outfits were hot.
Doyoung: Chain era was nice. Though I like him branching out style-wise, black-haired Doyoung is my favorite. The clothes and the writing on his cheek were all sexy.
Ten: I think his Empathy era style is his most iconic look. I enjoy Ten’s hair when it’s short, and I love when they put him in fancy outfits.
Jaehyun: Superhuman!! I didn’t love the Superhuman outfits, but I loved the way he looked in Highway to Heaven. The pastel pink & purple hair is so, so pretty.
WinWin: Empathy era. The soft pinks of Touch are pretty. I loved his hair and how they kept putting him in those little hats.
Jungwoo: Punch era, because black hair is stunning on him. He looks so handsome. Can’t wait to see all the outfits! (also his piercings are sexy)
Lucas: Moonwalk! The white outfit and the soft brown hair were great on him. I really like when they push his hair back from his forehead.
Mark: We Go Up is probably my favorite. I liked the whole school boy look they gave him, and his black hair was perfect. Other than that, Regular!
Xiaojun: Moonwalk. Any kind of blonde/silver hair color on him looks good with his skin tone. I loved the style of this whole WayV era, tbh.
Hendery: Moonwalk. Since we don’t have much to choose from with his hair color, I’ll have to go with the Moonwalk era styling.
Renjun: Empathy. The Go hair and the clothing is perfect. I really like the way they kept styling his hair, too.
Jeno: My favorite is probably Boom era. I love Jeno with that tone of blonde, and I think Boom has some of the best styling in all eras of nct.
Haechan: Honestly, I have so many favorites. I loved the Superhuman hair but hated the styling. I loved the Boom hair and styling. I loved Empathy era’s orange hair and Black on Black styling.
Jaemin: It’s Ridin’. I’m obsessed with the blue hair and the outfits they keep giving him.
YangYang: Moonwalk. The orange hair is nice, and I love the styling.
Chenle: Ridin’. I don’t know why they waited so long to give him black hair. I also thought We Young’s purple hair and outfits were adorable.
Jisung: Ridin’. The hair is cute, and I loved the ripped jeans and t-shirt look.
