Jacket!!!! Ye olde varsity I got at the very beginning of my transition thinking "Oh fuck yes I am going to pass so hard in this" and. Well. It never worked I just have never passed a day in my life I don't think 😔 Eventually it just became a beloved test subject and has since gone through a bit of a transition itself LMFAOO
Some Notes:
> A lot of the decorations are taken from old backpacks I loved dearly that got absolutely fucking destroyed by the weight of all the shit I'd lug around in highschool LMFAO (sketchbook, diary, all kinds of notebooks...). Never had the heart to get rid of them. Specifically: The pink zippers, the holographic pockets, the glow in the dark stars, and the holo angel wings!
> The pink/blue checkers are from a small decorative quilt I thrifted years ago, I wouldn't be surprised if it was handmade (it's super soft material, btw! Important LMAO). I only took out one line of squares, I plan on stitching the rest of it back together (haven't done it yet though LMFAO). The reason for this was to upsize the jacket, so I can button it without it clinging. The pockets were added for funsies ESP cause it lined up very well and aren't really practical LMFAO (BUT YOU CAN PUT THINGS IN THEM! If you want!! 🎉🎉🎉)
> The patches (esp the name/pronouns one) were the first additions actually. Eventually more and more things were added, but I will say all the pins on the opposite side of the patches were haphazardly placed for a concert I VERY BADLY wanted to look good for LMFAOO (that's when the stars were added too! Fighting for my life on the car ride over speedrunning sewing and trying not to throw up about it AHAKHSKSHDK)
> Spike placement may be odd and I'd like to add more, but also I do frequently still carry around big heavy backpacks so I have to take that into consideration. Which is also why the wings have been bolted on. Those motherfuckers are NOT going anywhere LMFAO (has a really cool visual effect too!!)
> The material of the jacket itself (sort of a swishy windbreaker fabric) IS ABSOLUTE ASS TO WORK WITH. BY THE FUCKING WAY. IN CASE YOU WERE WONDERING. I would NOT recommend it to anybody ESPECIALLY someone who is just starting to fuck around and find out. I literally am just sticking it out bc of the sentimental value this fucker has to me 😭😭😭
This jacket was my first plunge into customization and punk fashion, I didn't have a plan and still don't have one (and I think it kind of shows lmfao). I do worry that it's too soft and cutesy. Kind of the whole point for me, when it came to leaning heavy into punk, was to feel sharper, like I had some bite to me. I might be getting closer, but I think I'm still just kind of a silly guy LMAO. But, I do think in a way, esp as my first project, it represents me well -- where I started, what I loved before the beginning, what I tried desperately to be, what I still wish for, reuniting with the things I loved and embracing them in a brand new context. It's still an ongoing project too! So maybe as I keep growing, it'll grow alongside me, maybe finding that grit I've been striving for along the way.
#the big concert was mcr. btw. and cause it was a stadium no one got to see the glowy stars anyway LMFAOOOOO#for that concert i desperately wanted to have a big piece inspired by house of wolves on the back.#but i have never been able to get it right.#but like. it is actually my favorite mcr song. i REALLY wanted to do something transgender w it too.#like tell me i'm a bad man. i AM a bad man. bad man in the context of the song AND bad man as in. in the eyes of the observer.#i am just doing it poorly. on purpose. fuck with me about it!!!!!#also 'tell me i'm an angel' would compliment the wings as well#but as an artist i find i am way better at cartoons/characters than literally anything else.#ask me to do something cool w fonts/words beyond simply being legible and i'll throw up and cry.#also something i don't want to say outright but feel okay sharing in the tags is Why punk is so important to me#is cause i am just. so sensitive. i always have been.#but in a world that is actively becoming more hostile to exist in as a very visibly queer person#AND as a noticably autistic person too know like i think i have gotten to the point where people notice Something about me#(which. is good. bc autistic masking absolutely fucking ruined me so fucking bad.)#i need to get stronger. tougher. sharper. more dangerous. to exist as i am and to do so so boldy#i need to have the bite to back it up. i still feel like a prey animal but i have teeth i have claws.#going back to my church even for a moment has made me 10% eviler also. inspiring me to be the thing they fear.#so i think once i've rested i'm gonna go back to the drawing board for that transgender house of wolves backpiece.#diy punk#my projects

To that one anon,
I absolutely agree that actively hating on JK is veryyy uncalled for when we can see Jikook doing great and we don't have all the bts information. Lately, though, I've also seen a lot of Jikook accts minimizing what happened to FACE and Jimin. Celebrating JK's achievements is one thing but I cannot stand to see jkks of all ppl downgrading what happened to Jimin and his records as they're broken by the extra push the company gives JK. Everyone is speculating and trying their best to understand things and for some, that's sidelining Jimin as an accessory to make it make sense. There needs to be fair discourse in all sides of this community without romanticizing the darker parts of it. It's not JK's fault and we don't know all, but we still need to be able to talk about it. Like the fact that some of LC's numbers disappeared right when Seven needed space on the Korean charts. The fact that the FACE wasn't restocked for months when seven was in ready supply almost every week. What happened to LC and the rise of Seven is related even on a minor scale. This is a fact. Some accts were so focused on debunking videos, and celebrating JK that the topic of where Jimin's award nominations and streams are going became taboo because apparently "Jimin is happy as a cheerleader" ...what?!
Actively hating is way too far I agree but all I'm saying is we should still be able to talk about the inequality regarding them as individuals and how that relates to Jikook as a whole. Believing in Jikook and discussing these things should not be mutually exclusive. Everyone has their own opinions. Again not supporting the hate, but we should be allowed to share thoughts shouldn't we, regardless if we won't all agree?
No, I dont disagree. But personally talking about it just seems to get people riled up and that's how Jikookers end up resenting JK. I would rather copy paste a PJM on twitter when they are tagging BH and Geffen and anyone else fucking over Jimin.
I haven't 4go10 everything our man has been through. This man has millions of fans and they only released 13k LC cds. Meanwhile other members got up to 50k. His shit not getting restocked even still?? You cannot tell me this is something Jimin would be okay with. His fans wanting to buy his music and not being able to? No way he's just okay with this.
But I also fail to see how he's not aware of it?? He has to be aware of what happened to him.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
(New video here for those who are yet to watch it. As always they do Jimin Jimin great justice)
The 🛴 thing is confusing seeing as he's credited on FACE but whatever.
Unfortunately we will never know how he feels or whats going on unless he or one of the members outright tell us about it. The unfairness is so bad if I look at it too much it makes me tear up. I haven't 4go10 he is still the only member who didn't get a cake. I know it's just a cake but damn this always rubs me the wrong way. @magicshop-pjm1 gets it 🤭🤭🤭
All I know anon, which makes me less sad, is the fact that Jimin renewed with Hybe. That has to mean something. And so I will just be here and support him the best way I can. I am choosing to trust his decision here because we are clearly missing something.
I don't post these asks because tbh they are a downer and they make everyone upset. I don't like to be upset. Until we know the truth I would rather avoid the topic all together. But that's just me 😔😔 It doesn't do me any favours.
But yes, Jikookers should be able to discuss whats been going on without being called JK antis. Provided they're not acting like JK antis.

Tired of every single day seeing 29583995 posts about how you are supposed to engage in fandom and how everyone who engages differently is wrong and bad and not allowed to do this and that.
Literally do not understand why people are so pressed about what other people are doing for fun.
Do I find the way people interpret/misinterpret some characters to be annoying and baffling at times? Yes! I think everyone does. But that doesn't mean the person who is over there having a fun time not hurting anyone is at fault for it. You can block them and move on and say nothing.
This was inspired by a screenshot of someone saying something to the tune of "normalize mischaracterizing your comfort characters. I dont care whether or not they would canonically do something." And someone retweeted (to a seemingly large audience) telling them that they must not actually like the character. Which feels pretty mean-spirited to an innocuous post about how someone chooses to engage with something that comforts them.
And I honestly think the original person had a point. Normalizing it does not mean YOU have to do it or YOU have to like people's interpretations, it means that people will be allowed to engage in harmless fun without everyone getting up and arms and making assumptions about them or QRTing their post to thousands of people calling them a fake fan.
Everyone has a different idea of what fun and comfort is and for some people that's making wacky AUs or exaggerating traits and playing dollhouse and for others that meticulously researching and nailing down every canon detail in their works. Some people like tiktok and incorrect quote edits and some like meta and deepdives into and it's all okay and fine!
Someone doesn't HAVE to make an OC. If they want their quick fix of comfort and catharsis by just tacking traits on to a pre-made character that they don't have to expend extra energy on then who cares?
Also lots of neurodivergent people (like myself) and kids get caught in the crossfire as well, but really I think EVERYONE should have the right to do what they want. This feels like another extension if cringe culture which should be dead an buried by now.
And I say all this as a person who PREFERS to engage in fandom in a canon-compliant, lore-friendly way and yet has also been the victim of this.
I have had bad/mean fandom experiences over presenting evidenced, well-sourced, and canon compliant material that just happens to contradict popular fanon. I have also received backlash for putting a character through 10+ years of canon-compliant, well researched, and carefully constructed character development which led them to do things differently in the future than they did in canon.
But I don't always feel like giving a 20+ paragraph disclaimer on every single doodle, edit, or short fic to prove to you exactly how they got here and why it's canon compliant (although I unfortunately DO tend to do this to avoid repeats of past hate :/) because it really shouldn't matter. Blocking me outright or blocking my tags should suffice.
I will never understand this mentality of "Only I do things correctly, everyone else is wrong and bad and ruining everything and I have to shame people doing harmless things so everyone sees how right I am" and I feel like I've been seeing it more and more every day lately and it's frustrating. This is a big part of why I left twitter but it's getting popular here too now.
This is honestly a big part of why I don't post the majority of my fanart and fics anymore. I no longer post meta or silly edits, I no longer reach out to people to discuss ideas, I rarely share my thoughts on any characters publicly, etc.
I live a very stressful life and I engage in fandom to relax and have fun but that has been very difficult for me due to people who always feel the need to be hateful over innocuous things. I feel more and more like I need to walk on eggshells so I do not accidentally incite another ✨️incident✨️ because I dared to post a silly headcanon or edit. And that sort of hate and "umm, actually..." response STILL happens to me, even in recent days because god forbid I post an AU I enjoyed and wished to share with people who might also enjoy it!! It's so frustrating.
And this, of course, is NOT referring to people who try to force/shame others into their interpretations (regardless of if they are compliant or not). This is also NOT about bigoted material. Turning characters into harmful stereotypes (making a black woman who is not sassy sassy, for example), using them to spread hateful messages, and erasing their identities/whitewashed their designs. That is a separate issue. But someone making a character you like say something they wouldn't say in canon? Making them act a little silly? Ignoring parts of canon to make an idea they have work? It's not hurting anyone!!!

Hello and welcome to my sideblog! You can call my Rayday, Ray, or whatever else. I'm not too picky. He/Him pronouns strictly. If you don't like my shit? Just block me. It's not that hard.
Keep in mind I'm strictly anti harassment. Yes, even if the person is doing outright criminal activity. In those cases it's best to lie low and report them to the correct authorities- even if authority sucks a lot of the time at doing their fucking job. I'm also anti censorship, pro kink, anti cringe culture, and the like. If a person isn't hurting anyone- or themselves, then I could honestly not care any less about whatever the fuck they're doing.
Anyway, this is just a place to post about my silly little swap AU as Hazbin Hotel has taken over my life ( special interests really be out here ) and here the past 24 hours ( as of writing this ) I've already designed two of the characters and just need somewhere to post them.
I'm specifically calling this AU "Rayday's Swap AU" in case anyone wants to specify which/who's swap AU a character/design is from. I may or may not be subconsciously influenced by Undertale AUs. Just keep that in mind since I was into that shit a good 6 to 7 years ago.
Also, I'm not redesigning them on top of my swap AU. I'm just taking the original designs and trying my best to swap them. I might accidentally throw in some redesign elements in there, but that's more design instincts rather than on purpose.
If you decide to draw fanart or anything, please do share! I don't care what skill level you're at, it'd honestly make my day either way that just one person enjoys my designs enough to draw fanart of them.
Also, don't be afraid to interact! I literally have no life and it'd likely make my day as well ( or at least make me smile ) assuming the interaction is positive. If you're not sure if I'm okay with something, then ask away and I'll gladly answer.
Considering that Hazbin is 16+ ( with 18+ for some countries/episodes ) I'm gonna consider the content of this blog with the same age ratings. I ain't gonna check your bios just to check your age ( I have better things to do. Not really. But I'd just rather not bore myself with that ) though I will say if you're under 16 then I don't support you interacting with this type of content, even if I technically can't stop you at the end of the day.
[ My Masterlist ]
PLEASE DO NOTE:
I, myself, don't ever intend to post my swap AU on other platforms as of now. If someone ever posts it to somewhere else, it is likely stolen.
The only exception to this is if I make a deal with someone else to post my work on another platform with my expressed permission. In those cases I will mention the account in this pinned post.
If anyone wants to repost my designs to other platforms eg. TikTok, Instagram, etc, please reach out to me via DMs so we can talk about the details.
My personal tags are:
rayday's swap au ( anything related to my AU, though anon asks won't be tagged as it ) rayday anon asks ( just me replying to anons )
rayday talks ( posts that aren't anon asks- nor related to my AU in specific. I will try to not make a lot of these posts, but feel free to block the tag )
That's about it! Thank you for reading.

Guide to Tumblr by a Redditor
Dashboard = feed.
Necroing is encouraged.
Puns are required. /jk
The url you created first is your primary or main blog. When you like, reply, or send messages, your primary is what people will see.
You can change the look and url, and you could delete all your posts, but anything more requires total account deletion. Tumblr likes to brigade sometimes. It's annoying when it's your primary.
There are 2 ways to use tumblr:
Throw caution to the wind and use your primary for everything. Accept that someone will brigade you for something ridiculous at some point. It's a right of passage.
Create side blogs like we made throwaways. I have a primary and this baby blog. Some people create fandom specific or meme or fashion blogs. Keep in mind you can make and delete them as much as you want, but you should be reasonable about it. Otherwise, you'll be caught by the filter.
Asks
Keep these off for now. Cuts down on brigading significantly. When sending an ask, remember the human. Also remember that tumblr isn't run by mods who've seen it all. A lot of blogs are run by 13 year olds.
Spam Filter
Tumblr can be the worst automod you've ever met. Especially when you're new, especially if you're unverified, especially if you do create 10000 side blogs.
The filter will either say, "oops! I'm glitching!" (lies) or it will outright shadowban you. To test this, write a post, tag it, then go to the tag and filter by latest. If you are not there, you're shadowbanned!
It also does this to people who post links or images, but not always. A minor form of shadowbanning is hiding your reblog in the notes.
While we're here, please do report genuine bots. Most of them use malicious links. Top right of every post.
Pinned Posts
You only get one. Choose wisely! Useful for adding info about you/your blog, kinda like a wiki. Don't feel pressured to add anything you don't like.
Liking vs Replying vs Reblogging
A like is an upvote, except everyone can see your primary. It sends good vibes. Some people get angry when they only get liked. Ignore them. Do what you want.
Replying is when you have a small addition. Try not to argue in the replies. This is considered rude. You can always @ the person in a reblog.
Reblogging shares the post to your blog. You can choose which blog at the top of the screen. You can also queue it, so it comes out later. We do this to prevent flooding people's dashboards and inboxes. (There is a debate on whether flooding is okay or not.)
Tagging
When you post or reblog, you can add any tags you want. If it is your OC, then it will show up in the sitewide tags. Supposedly, only the first 5 tags work, so make them count.
Even if you don't tag, your post could end up in the related posts, based on the content.
For reblogs, a tag is an easy way to make a side comment, or make your post searchable on your own blog. It also serves as a content warning.
When warning, tag the main word without frills. If warning for a bug, write "bugs" and "insects" and nothing else. Tumblr's filter considers these to be different things: cw bugs, tw bugs, bugs cw. Don't be a jerk, like the filter. Just write "bugs" and "insects" so people don't have to have 10 mile long filter lists.
Common cws: creepy crawlies, bedroom shit, politics, abuse, bigotry, horror, sarcasm, and unreality.
A Filter for Your Squicks
Good news! You can filter out stuff that bothers you! Look in settings for the preferences menu. Content will filter out anything that contains the word. So "hot" would filter out "eachother". Tags will filter out only the exact tags. Note: there appears to be a limit to how much you can filter.
Blocking
Happens all the time, happens for no reason, just move on. People will literally block you because the algorithm was showing them your posts too much. If you are blocked, tumblr will claim their blog does not exist, or say you cannot reblog from them. It likes the "oopsie!" approach for some reason.
On the flip side, go ahead and block! Have fun with it! We are our own moderators, here.
Blocking prevents you from seeing their posts, and they cannot reply, reblog, or see you. One exception- if someone else reblogs you, they can see it.
DNI
Means "do not interact." It's mostly a preachy statement but you should honor it as much as possible. The longer the list, especially if it mentions fandom shit, the more likely they're a brigader.
Screen shotting
Generally considered rude, associated with harassment. (If you see a "callout," this is usually code for brigading. Feel free to block the subject...or everyone involved.)
Exceptions for screen shotting tags to share a clever remark, though copy pasting is better.
I will admit that everyone loves to screenshot horrible/ridiculous people, but we all know we should at least cut the url out first.
Image Descriptions
It is nice to add these. If someone adds them to your post, copy their text and put it in the original. Alt text is preferred. Do not add alt text and an image description.
How to write one: describe the most important parts of the image. You don't want excessive detail, but you do want to get the point across. For example:
[Image: burning Elmo meme. He has the reddit snoo's face. Text, "burn, baby, burn." /end]
If it is a simple comic, describe the people involved, and name/nickname them. After that, stick with text only, unless something relevant happens. Example:
[Comic: a big bad in a suit talks to a group of people using reddit avatars. Background is a building labeled Reddit Incorporated.
Big bad: well, if you don't like it, you can just leave!
Group: okay.
Big bad: what? No! Come back here!
Group: *settles into their new space with smiles*
Reddit Inc: *becomes old and decrepit*
Big bad: oh no! /end]
For more complicated comics, use Panel 1, Panel 2, etc, and describe the whole thing.
For recognizable figures, you can say their name and what they're doing/wearing if relevant.
For art...honestly, I hate describing art. Do what you can. Say what they used (oil, pencil, digital, etc.) Say if there's a tree, or a castle. Describe the cat and the mermaid. Etc. With this one, you want to be as detailed as possible, because the whole point is to enjoy the experience.
Politics
We have all kinds here. It is more anti-ableist and anti-sexist in general. Please keep to the Reddiquette.

People are allowed to be critical of a musicians choice even if there is an artistic explanation behind it
Someone can do something on purpose and it'll still be a flawed decision, or just something that people don't vibe with
(And tbh the 31 song album is because no one says no to her. Established artists doing way-too-long albums that desperately need editing is a tale as old as time. See the Beatles' White Album)
hey anon, i'm guessing you're responding to this post i made yesterday
Tumblr media
i probably should have put it in the body of the post, but my tag really has the thesis of what i'm feeling: "regardless of why she did it that doesn't mean ppl shouldn't understand the context of their criticism"
context can be, like you said, just personal preference on what sounds good. in this case, i'm referring to the ability to recall information after getting information overloaded. it's the same reason someone might take notes during a long lecture in college: with the amount of information shared, it's hard to know exactly what was covered at the start. the context i'm asking people to understand is related to information overload; when you get information overload, you just can't remember everything perfectly. it's impossible. because of this, saying "everything sounds the same" is a pretty unremarkable critique because that's kind of an inevitable result of listening to a 31 song album all in one go. that take shows me people just aren't being critical about how their consumption of the album is impacting their opinion of it.
i'm postulating that there are huge artistic reasons behind this, because there's proof that taylor can pare back her writing. but never once here did i say you have to stand behind all of someone's artistic choices, especially if they don't vibe with what you like to listen to. i just said when you don't, try and understand why you don't. also understand that you have the agency to maybe like it/understand it/ know it better by listening more.
however (and this isn't something i say outright, but definitely something i believe) it is completely up to you how much time you want to invest to something that has a variable amount of joy to give back. i am finally singing along and i'm at 5 listens. that's 10 hours of my life!!! which is ridiculous and i get why people might turn away faster than that. and it's okay! but whether or not you agree with the artistic reasons behind the length enough to justify them is a fully different argument altogether, and it's not the one i'm making in the original post.

Hi, yet another Finn here, annoyed by another anon.
I don't want to go on a rant in your inbox so I'll try to keep this short. As someone who has only in the last few years started to look more into the less spoken about Finnish history, I just want to say I hope our countries can somehow strengthen our relationship in the future. It's an uncomfortable truth for us that we've treated Estonians very dissmissively in our past, but it's a fact I think Finns should all acknowledge.
I'm on board of joining NATO because not only does Finland need a security system but if we joined it would strengthen the security over the Baltic Sea. I don't plan to underrate Finland's problems with Russia, but I think we as a country should acknowledge that our history with Estonia isn't as "brotherly" as most make it out to be, and that Estonians have in fact not been overreacting. Frankly, I think it's quite amazing our countries have been able to be in good terms, and I'm thankful for that.
I would love to see Finland cooperate with the Baltic States and work towards a common goal of security. The past is gone, it can't be changed, but I hope we'll become better neighbors to you in the future. I hope that the current state of Europe will open the eyes of the Finnish goverment and we'll join you guys in NATO soon.
Thanks for reading & stay safe 💙🖤🤍
Just saying this is the last ask I am gonna take this. If the first anon comes back or anyone else wants to have a go I am just gonna clear my inbox. I think we can leave Estonian-Finnish relations on the back burner for now and focus on Ukraine instead.
I mean the first anon can say whatever they want. They are allowed to say they don't want Finland to join NATO. That's fair game. But what annoyed the most from that post was that Finnish arrogance Estonians are well familiar with.
Yes, Finland wasn't occupied like we were. We are more than well aware that the independence Finns had came with a heavy price tag and hurt the Finnish outlook for years. We know that some Finns are okay with sacrifices that were made and think it was the right thing to do. We are aware of that. It's not our place to tell Finns to think otherwise. Some Finns also think it's the way to continue. Okay fair, Finland is not Estonia, therefore Estonians don't get to have anything more than opinion.
It's just that - what was part of the price and are you willing to pay it again, may we Estonians ask? We both know the answer, but Estonians are just too polite to answer and Finns would rather not answer. (Although yes, I have mentioned it before - if Finns bring it up in a roundabout way, I think it's a free game for us to say it outright).
Our history and relationships are complicated. It's hard to find and other two nations that aren't really. The two countries share history, but also for a lot of our histories paths diverge. This has led up to the current situation.
Finns yell us at for "telling them what to do" and how "Estonians just don't understand!" then turn right around and tell Estonians what to do and how to interpret this or that.
(Not going to lie, I feel incredibly uncomfortable with some of my Finnish followers, because I know some of them hate Estonians and have favourable views of certain empire from history. Yet they follow this blog, but okay I guess.)
Finland is regionally very important to us, so Estonia is going to bend to Finnish will to almost uncomfortable levels, we know that. However, that does not mean we want to be Finns or something like that. We're Estonians, and that's okay. We don't need to be Finns.
And as for the fact that Estonians don't understand Finnish relations with Russia - well, Finland sure as hell doesn't understand our relationship with Russia either.

Response to an ask from Ophelia:
(this is the tag game one!)
Yes!! I would've tagged you if I could so instead I did so emotionally, and wasn't sure if you would see it, but excellent you have!!
Also excellent to know that I'm not being annoying by sharing my own experiences in response to yours. I guess it's a habit to clarify because so many other people don't really like it and even outright vocally complain about people who do that. I took an interpersonal communications class a few semesters ago and I remember being so confused by a few of the things because it was so different than how I communicated. Like "share talking time equally." Well what if one of us wants to infodump or rant for an hour and the other doesn't feel like talking?? Or "make sure the topics you're talking about are connected. don't make big jumps too often." Well I'm sorry that seeing the color yellow reminds me of lemons which reminds me of Lemon Fresh the book character which reminds me of the Lifelike series which reminds me I never finished reading them which reminded me we own the first two books but I don't know if we down the last one which is why I asked if we do after looking at your video game character who is wearing yellow.
I have also gone off on a distracted tangent oops!! But my point is I will continue to share my own stories now that I've been reminded you're okay with it. Very...hum but like a deep slow nice pitch, like resonating tones. Dark grey/blue? that's the emotion. gentle ocean waves.
(also yea I have no problem cutting out the ask! I tend to assume to do so for all except the ones that don't have any personal information, like if they're a fandom thing. but I can also do it for those if you'd like. essentially: will cut the ask out unless instructed otherwise!)
Blue is an excellent color!! We are opposite in the sense that I typically go for cooler tones. Idk why. But blue was definitely my favorite color for many years. And then purple. I might've changed it because my sister kept changing her favorite color to match mine and I wanted to be Different, but now I don't really care.
Chemistry textbook counts! You are so right though reading takes so much energy. I read so much less than I used to, yet still buy books at the same rate. I am...I am drowning in my tbr.
I have not heard that song before, but instrumental interludes can be so good!! I'm personally a huge fan of when the instruments drop out and then there's just someone's voice. Or!! even better!! when that happens but there are a bunch of voices and it's like a whole choir of people singing together without instrumentals. Love that
I saw Encanto once! I don't tend to watch a lot of movies for the same reason, like just sitting somewhere for an extended period of time to watch something just isn't my preference.
Savory food is an excellent choice. I. Do not remember the last time I ate something savory I usually add spice to anything. Literally for dinner tonight I had the buldak 2x spicy noodles. What even is savory wait a minute
we had the same responses to the ship thing! I've never really invested any energy in anything ship related. Whatever the author decides I go with. I don't think I've ever read a book where I actively wanted a character to be with another.
I don't think the currently working thing was specifically about writing, but I think your response counts! Bullet lists about things is still working on something!!
also nice to know that I am not the only one who doesn't know how to define a comfort food!! maybe it is something you eat when you're sick, maybe it's something that's comforting to eat. whatever it is idk
autumn is such a great time of the year you're right!! when my seasonal allergies were worse as a kid I'd always say autumn was my favorite season because it wasn't too hot or cold, and it was better than spring because no allergies or bees. I love your description of it though. crunchy leaves and a painting world!! autumn is super fun
I don't take it personally at all! I don't expect my writing to be anyone's favorite and there are so many talented writers out there who deserve recognition!! I am vaguely aware of Little Nightmares, but I'm glad you like it!! I've also read Miss Peregrine's, though I discovered a few months ago that the series actually did not end after book 3 like I thought but in fact there are more. Haven't caught up with them yet but I own them and plan to!
You don't have to apologize for writing a lot! that is essentially the entire premise of my blog it'd be kinda hypocritical if I didn't like it when others did the same thing I do all the time. you're welcome for the tag as well!! I wasn't sure if that was something you'd like.
(very !!! bright yellow buzz that the way I describe emotions is good!! I feel like for almost everyone else I tend to tone it down and just find the closest word they'll understand, but my emotions are more...concepts and sensations than feelings? if that makes sense? like they are amorphous and relate to things that feelings aren't "supposed" to be. there's a question in the kotlc uquiz I'm making where I say to pick an emotion I've felt in the past month and some of the options are things like explode and timeless and smooth. emotions are so vast and have so many possibilities!!)

Were there any episodes in season 3 where you felt they could've been written better? I'm only asking because I had some ideas I wanted to share with people about fixing them since, to me, the season started becoming a mess around The Phantom and the Sorceress. And the episodes don't need to be outright bad, there could just be parts in it you didn't like.
Oof. I've been a bit loud and obnoxious about certain episodes for sure 😅 I'll try to briefly sum up a few.
Also I'm just gonna say, some of these are just I don't like what they did rather than any huge fundamental problems like the finale.
Also disclaimer. This is not an attack on anyone who likes these episodes! Nobody has to agree with me! If you like these episodes cool! Glad you got something out of it! This is just Tombs being a nit pick loud mouth.
Rumble for Ragnarok
I can't complain too much about this one as it was still entertaining. Norse is part of my heritage and I'm a fan of the mythology which was on full display this episode. My only real issue this episode is that the message gets a little lost at least on me. And then two is I think out of all the episodes this one is the one that could absolutely be thrown out without losing anything really important. Trade this episode for something different. Something more important.
The Forbidden Fountain of the Forever Glades
Scrooge's behavior and leaving Webby in the jungle was painful to watch. (Much as I don't like the finale twist, the twist actually makes this episode worse.) [Also so much for Goldie's "fresh start" when in Split Sword of Swanstitine later showed she once again attempted to double cross Scrooge. Yeah. Fresh start. Totallyyyy.] Goldie is a fun character and I can't hate her too much. The episode has its merits and definitely still think this episode should be around but Scrooge's behavior here really kills me. Thankfully at the end he does better but ugh. It's low on the overall ranking for me based on how he behaves and treats Webby.
New Gods on the Block
I actually really love this episode but Storkules was pissing me off too much 😂 Nit pick for sure. I love this himbo but got dangit he was making me so mad. I get it was kinda important for the overall plot but come on we got so little Donsy content that it was frustrating that he was so intrusive.
The First Adventure
Nit picking again. I think it's kinda random how in the span of a few hours a hard ass like Scrooge went from "my obnoxious niece and nephew" to "my heirs and beloved family." I guess it's possible but not a fan of that kind of writing. For me it would make more sense that they had several adventures or at least more time with them before they became "his heirs" in his eyes. Extreme nit picking on my part though, the episode isn't bad at all really. Also no Hortense and Quackmore. Yes they were named. (Or she was) No we never got to see them. Rude! This was actually a really good episode though overall again I just have some minor nit picks.
The Fight for Castle McDuck
Okay this one is also kind of a nit pick but it's more like based on the episode's timing. I think it is absolutely ridiculous that Webby "Knower of all things Clan McDuck" has no idea that a family of Scots fights a lot. I can somewhat forgive it though as she's young and isn't as familiar with this side of the family in the flesh. But it's so weird how this late into the show we're seeing this?? I think I would have liked this episode more if it had popped up earlier into season 3 rather than so late? It just was a kinda weird episode and not the most enjoyable but the timing I think made it worse. Also the no mention of Hortense again. Referring to Matilda as the youngest when that's supposed to be Hortense? It's really not the worst episode. It just feels a bit off to me and again to me mostly the timing of it. Could have been better, could have been worse.
How Santa Stole Christmas
THROW THIS EPISODE INTO THE FUCKING GARBAGE. HATE HATE HATE IT. THIS ONE ACTUALLY MAKES ME RAGE.
This episode is actually worse for me than the finale. Literally I consider this episode the worst in the series. I just hate it!!!
I hate that this episode was about Scrooge and Santa. I really don't give a fuck why Scrooge hates Santa and this story in no way compelled me. (Also why was Scrooge and Santa's dialog weirdly shippy??? Thanks to this episode got another huge NOtp, "scranta" is gross, sorry, hate it. Absolutely cannot board that ship at all, I have the tag blocked.) I see absolutely no reason why this was the story we got when there was literally an option to follow up The Last Christmas now that Della was finally home????? MISSED OPPORTUNITY!!! I hate the weird crazy ass capitalist message going on throughout the episode, I get Scrooge is a capitalist himself but he didn't change from this episode? He walked away from Jennifer's obvious poverty life and went "ah as long as she's happy" instead of I don't know, maybe a message about helping the less fortunate??
Look maybe I'm just bitter from my own life. I've lived in extreme poverty my whole life. My parents home has literally looked so much liked the ruined place Jennifer lived in during the episode. And I live in Alaska so I KNOW COLD. I know how it feels to go cold for days on end, no food, no water, nothing. Extreme poverty. Scrooge could have done something. He wasn't like Donald who doesn't have much either. He's a freaking billionaire. He could have helped. And instead the message he walked away with is "if you're happy life is fine" or something. Whatever the message that was supposed to be from this episode is completely lost on me because all I see is a miserable rich old miser who hates letting kids have fun and won't help someone in need. Absolute garbage episode. I really wish they had instead just followed up on The Last Christmas. Or had some kind of family centric episode at least! I seriously fucking hate this episode so much. I would legit erase this episode if I could it is the WORST.
The Lost Cargo of Kit Cloudkicker
Nit pick again. Didn't love what they did with Kit. Okay I get the idea he grew up to idolize Baloo so he turned out more like him. It...wasn't great. Didn't like that much at all. Felt like they just tried to shove Kit into a DT87/DWD Launchpad mold. I didn't love that Baloo and Kit's relationship was mentioned weirdly casually? Like Kit called himself Baloo's sidekick??? Except in Talespin Kit calls him Papa Bear??? Also great, got another tag to block from this episode, the delkit ship. Not a fan, thanks.
Kinda weird for me with this episode I didn't really catch the meaning of it. To me it felt like the message was "defy expectations...by meeting them." It didn't really click and I kinda hated it for that plus the weird characterization of Kit. Actually I was on Twitter and someone was complaining about this episode and I responded in agreement and then FRANK REPLIED TO US 😅😅😅. Frank explained that the point was more of "if you're good at something, don't give it up" rather than "you can do anything you set your mind to" type message that appears a lot in kids media. (Also Frank please don't look at me when I'm criticizing the show 😂😂😂😂😭 I promise overall I do love it I'm just a loud mouth when I don't like something some times 😅)
After Frank explained that it did click a little better and I can see the message a bit more clearly. But I'm still not really in love with this episode like I wanted to be. I freaking love Talespin so that was a bummer. But as I've said a dozen times. I'm mostly nit picking my personal opinion.
The Life and Crimes of Scrooge McDuck
Another one I wanted to like more than I actually did. And mostly this boils down to Louie having to apologize to Doofus when Doofus is the one who's like some wild sociopath or something. I get it Louie hasn't been completely innocent towards Doofus. He did try to use him and con him but Doofus flat out has tried to hold him captive and torture and even kill him. Doofus' sins outweigh Louie's. Louie having to apologize to prevent the tension and all just...feels like victim blaming? This one is harder for me to describe why I don't like it and I think others have explained it better than me. I think it could have been better if Louie AND Doofus both apologized and agreed to start over and let what happened between them before be water under the bridge. At least this way they're equals? Maybe it wouldn't have been the best fix but I feel it would have been better than Canon. This one I don't want to call a nit pick. This one feels like there is something fundamentally wrong with it but I struggle to explain. Mostly other than that though I think the episode was fine. A little weird that the karma court scale needed to be told the villains hearts rather than able to just know them (mostly looking at the Ma Beagle one here) but that part is more nit pick.
And finally...The Last Adventure
I have things I love about it. The individual character moments. The references and call backs. The music. This finale was clearly made with love and care.
But that damn Webby clone daughter thing twist changes things. I know some people say it doesn't but to me it does! I feel it messed with the family dynamic and the characters in a needless way. I feel it didn't add anything to but rather did take away from. I don't wanna say too much on it as there's already been so much talk on it so in keeping it brief- not a fan, didn't like, why the hell, no.
The thing with Bradford kinda threw me off too. His logic and insistence on not being a villain made him so interesting. He was truly a villain to rival Scrooge. Then in my opinion he was pushed into a weird middle ground. He didn't feel like he completely abandoned what he previously stood on but also didn't go full villain either? I get a villain like Bradford isn't easy. The writers have to truly bring their all for someone like him. But Bradford suddenly getting armor and the Split Sword and becoming a battling giant was kinda ????? inducing. Threw me for a bit of a loop. I probably need to watch this episode a few more times before I finally settle on where I sit with the Bradford thing but at least at this time I just feel kinda mixed on it. Maybe I missed something there.
Other nit picks from the finale. Donald's writing was a little weird, he sounded like he was going on vacation but then Della said he was moving out and Donald talked like "well you have the boys and Uncle Scrooge..." it just really sounds like he's leaving the family?????????? Especially at a time like this? Rude! I mean yes somebody please get this man a vacation but the writing here left me kinda confused and there is no reason Donald would ever just leave and act like "oh well their mom is back so my work here is done." Nope. DADnald for life.
Lena and Webby never getting shown to have made up after their fight. I imagine the giving June and May the friendship bracelets kinda implies it but come on. Even just a hug would have been good. Also...why are they giving up their friendship bracelets??? Confused, not a fan.
And also...in addition to the Clone twist, I really don't love that April, May, and June were all clones instead of Daisy's nieces. I really wanted to get to see them in the show and now I just feel like thanks I hate it! I admire the guts to make a twist like this and all but I really hate it.
Overall please let me say I LOVE Ducktales. The show as a whole to me is a huge important thing I love. This isn't an attack on anyone who likes these episodes. I am just once again being loud and obnoxious with my own opinions and nit picks and things I just would have liked to see or not see.
no idea if any of this rambling answers your question Anon but here you go. Hope it works.

Quarantine Times
These days, there was little Cardan hated more than online classes.
It was hard enough to focus on the professor's words when there was no one to keep him in line without the added temptation of staring at Jude's screen while she paid attention, her brows drawn together in concentration as her lips pressed in a thin line. He had the face memorised now from how often he stared at her during class or in the cafeteria while she talked to her friends or in the library where she'd read for hours, lost in her own world.
Even at the ass crack of dawn, she looked beautiful. Her face had that concentrated look when she focused on something. Her auburn hair were braided neatly to the side of her head, her dark, half asleep eyes staring at the screen with an intensity as though she was willing the whole screen to explode into pieces. She bit her lip, tucking a strand of her hair back—
"Zoom classes are for studying, not so you can stare at your crush," Dain said, looking up from his phone.
Cardan gave him a hard look but it did nothing to wipe the shit-eating grin from his elder brother's face. He said through gritted teeth and barely restrained temper, "Jude isn't my crush."
His brother looked amused. "Do I look like a fool to you, brother?"
He did. He very much did look like a fool with that smarmy grin and the knowing look Dain sent him. Cardan told him as much but it only made Dain grin wider than before. He patted his little brother on the shoulder. "It's okay to admit you like her, brother. She's smart and pretty, even you can admit that, rivals and all."
But they weren't rivals anymore. They had been once—all through middle school—but there was no fight or bitter feelings on his side, at least. Not since Cardan went and gods-damned crushed on his enemy somewhere between all the unresolved arguements and hurled insults and attempted sabotages and the many, many pranks. She snuck up on his heart that way. He didn't notice she had coiled herself around his head so deep until she was all he thought about. As far as he was concerned, the rivalry between them was resolved.
"But you aren't," Cardan said, pouting at the idea of his brother liking Jude. "Leave me alone, Dain."
Dain grinned again, cooing at him. "Aw, look at you being jealous, brother. Don't—" his words were cut off by the pillow Cardan threw at his brother's face. The other got him in the stomach but he was still laughing, zoom meeting forgotten as he ran around the room, trying to dodge and weave around the pillows and cushions Cardan aimed at him, making a mess of the room in the process.
"I'm leaving, I'm leaving," Dain surrendered, running out of the room.
Cardan once again focused on the screen, watching her write whatever it was. His own video was turned off right now and as if his thoughts had directed their teacher's attention towards the fact, the man said, "Cardan Greenbriar, open your video. And keep it open." Cardan watched Jude look up at the screen when she heard his name. Her brown eyes looked prettier when they stared through him (even though she wasn't looking at him but at her screen, it sure did feel like it) and the tense shoulders were drooped now, Jude looking more relaxed than ever.
He didn't realize what she was frowning at until he noticed he had turned screen sharing on instead of video.
Which meant everyone could see the wallpaper in his phone, a photo of Jude at a recent bonfire party where he'd apologized for years worth of pranks and she refused to believe him, convinced that it was some trick. Colour rose to her cheeks and his own ears pounded with warmth as he fumbled with the features on his phone, turning screen sharing off. The damage was done, Jude was looking at her screen with colour rising on her cheeks before she left the meeting.
Nicasia was hiding her smile behind her hand, Locke looked pissed off and Taryn had a surprised, lost look on her face.
Cheeks burning with embarassment, he ignored the looks his friends gave him as he stared straight ahead. Most looked positively scandalised, as if they'd just seen the earth turn upside down or something. He didn't know how he endured through the class but he buried his face in the pillows, groaning loudly in shame.
His phone buzzed, an unknown number flashing across his screen. "Hello?"
"You have me as your wallpaper," Jude said, her voice amused. There would be no mincing words then.
Trying to save face one last time, Cardan reasoned, "Yeah, uh, it was more for the sake of the scenery in the background." He realized his mistake when he saw that the scenery he was talking about was a brick wall that Jude leaned against, laughing as she held a can of beer in her hand while the other rested on her thigh.
Jude said in a teasing tone, "Ah, yes, the background. Beautiful."
He had never known Jude to act like this—this bold and confident and teasing. She always shied away from the simplest of flirting. Perhaps she was more comfortable over the phone? He couldn't fathom another reason why she'd be so willing to talk to him now. He was mortified still.
"I can change it though, I'm about to—I mean, if that makes you uncomfortable. Not that I care what you think," then cursed himself for falling into old habits of insults when he got flustered. "I mean I do care what you think—because you're my friend, of course. Like, we're not friends yet, I know, I know. But I'd like to be. I don't want to make assumptions on who we are. I mean, we hated each other but I don't hate you now. I like you. Like, gods, I don't like you but—"
"Cardan, breathe," her calm voice instructed from the other side. Jude said, "Is that the only reason I'm your wallpaper, Cardan? The background?"
There was no way she believed his lame ass excuse about his background. Jude was too smart for all that, and she had an ability of spotting all his tells from childhood. He instead changed topics in favour of outright lying, "Darling Jude, I've never known you for being bold."
She huffed. "You callin' me a wuss?"
Now that his mortification had somewhat subsided, he heard the slur in her voice. "Jude, are you drunk? At nine in the morning?"
"I saw the wallpaper and panicked. Vivi said I needed alcohol, we broke into Madoc's wine cellar." Laughter escaped her lips.
"Jude, darling," Cardan said, deciding to shoot his shot now, hoping Jude was not the kind of drunk who would forget everything when she was sober again. "Fine. I have you on my wallpaper because I like looking at you. You—You're cute and I, kind of, sort of like you. Like, for a while." If she remembered this later, he'd finally have confessed. If she didn't, then it was his own bad luck. He just had to say it once.
There was a long pause on the other side, followed by a shushing sound. "Don't tell Cardan but I kind of, sort of like him too."
Cardan couldn't stop his answering smile if he tried. "I won't, promise."

I honestly feel like the state of the mask discourse hints at a general issue where even plenty of avowed leftists (not to mention the rest of the political spectrum) somehow conflate "It is morally correct to do a thing" with "There ought to be a law mandating that a thing be done" AND DON'T EVEN NOTICE THAT THERE'S AN ENTIRE STEP IN THE ARGUMENT THAT THEY'RE SKIPPING.

Okay, I'm saying this as someone who is now fully vaccinated and has very little personal issue with continuing to wear masks pretty much indefinitely in public buildings so that's not where my frustration here stems from (and I shouldn't even need this disclaimer, should I?). But I'm getting fucking FURIOUS with repeatedly seeing this exchange on here:
Amalgam of people A: "For - insert reasons - I don't think it's right to mandate that vaccinated people continue to wear masks." Amalgam of people B: "Well, I'm gonna keep wearing my mask anyway, so there!"
Did I somehow enter a bizarro universe where the lack of a mandate to do a thing is equivalent to a mandate NOT to do the thing??? The topic wasn't "Should you personally be allowed to wear a mask?" nor was it "Is it the right choice to wear a mask?" It was "Should we obligate everybody to wear a mask?" Those are three separate questions. Please, for the love of reading comprehension, treat them as such!

tag 9 people you want to get to know better/catch up with
I got tagged by @nikita-not-nikola - thanks for the tag!
last song: I'm not sure, but judging by my listening habits in the past week or so, it's probably Shum by Go_A
last movie: Pride, the 2014 movie about an activist group of gays and lesbians raising money for striking miners in the UK in 1984, or, as my partner summarised it: A movie of wholesome Thatcher bashing.
currently reading: Miami Punk by Juan S. Guse - I don't think I would recommend it, it's very slow-paced and highly experimental, but I'm probably going to finish it.
currently watching: A bunch of things, among them Rutherford Falls
currently craving: Some goddamn rest! (Also mochi.)
I'm tagging @mindthelspace, @jadegreenimmortality, @ante--meridiem, @soryualeksi and @thegreenmeridian and anyone else who feels like answering :P

I keep coming across posts that are ... let me attempt to summarise the thing I mean:
OP: Here’s a gendered stereotype/expectation that hurts men. Response to OP: But the source of that stereotype/expectation is men, not women, and it is enforced by men, so (this next bit is either implied or stated outright) it’s men’s own fault and they should stop whining.
And I actually used to agree with the logic of these posts fairly unreservedly some years ago. You can find some of them further back in my blog, if you care to look, I’m sure. But I no longer agree. I now think it’s a sign of someone being so used to thinking in systems and groups that they have forgotten systems and groups consist of individuals.
Because what does “This masculine stereotype is promoted and enforced by men” actually mean? Those posts make it sound like ... self-harm? Like something men-as-a-group have chosen so they don’t get to complain about their own choices? But that’s not how that works in practice, because people that share the same gender aren’t a hivemind. What that really means in practice is a man (or, more frequently, a boy) being told by OTHER PEOPLE, “You need to exist this way and if you don’t, it’s wrong.” and having that rubbed in with mockery, ostracism and, not infrequently, physical violence. The boy who gets bullied for being insufficiently masculine isn’t somehow bringing that on himself because his bullies happen to be male. The man who feels inadequate in his body because he keeps being told he’s not muscular enough isn’t somehow at fault because the people telling him that are also men.
And actually, female stereotypes are also frequently imposed by other women. Like, if you look at who tells girls “You need to start shaving your body hair” and sometimes violently enforces it, that’s frequently their MOTHERS. If you look at who tells women they’re dressed wrong, made up wrong, existing wrong, that’s not infrequently also other women. Does that make those expectations any less harmful or hurtful when it’s other women imposing them, though? Surely not.
Imagine a bully grabbing somebody’s hand and punching them in the face with it and the onlooker going “Why are you hitting yourself?”

I think I saw you say somewhere that have a squick of self harming in fan fictions and that's what you don't like right? Do you have other ones and what do you like ?
Hi nonnie!  Yep, a squick is something that, when reading, a person tends to avoid. It can be an outright trigger or simply something that makes the reader crinkle their nose and shake their head before closing out. It’s a fairly universal term in fandom that helps to explain why you won’t/can’t/don’t like reading something, and the beauty of it is that, once the word is used, no further explanation is (or should be) required — because sometimes there is no further explanation, you know? Sometimes you just… don’t like something.
As for my personal squicks/likes/and dislikes, that requires a longer answer, so I’m going to put it under a cut.
The short answer is yes and no. Self-harm can be a squick of mine — but it very much depends on how it’s handled, and its context. It’s something I’ll usually avoid reading if I see it in the tags and am not familiar enough with the author to feel safe reading it, which is something I take into account. If I see a story posted by an author that I’ve liked but have never read anything from them approaching that tag, I’ll probably wait to see if they’ll post a fic with similar but more gentle tags/content to see if their style/thought processes on the subject line up with my own. Other writers, whose work I’ve consumed to the point where I feel comfortable enough with their headspace, I’ll dive right in.
That being said, honestly, these days I have very few hardline squicks —  scat-play and/or vomit-play are two, and suicide and self-harm edge very close as well (with the caveat from above). When I was less familiar with fandom, more untried, I had — or thought I had — a lot. lol. That can happen, I think; it can be really terrifying to edge out of your comfort zone. But then you read absolutely every long, plotty drarry a writer offers, every short, hot bit of smut, and there are these other ones lingering with tags like incest or dub/non-con or major character death or infidelity, and think “hmmm.” All of those are still listed in my ‘know the author first’ file, but I’ve learned I can love some stories with those tags. But that’s me. Not everyone will want to venture out of their comfort zones, and that’s fine. Great, even! Fanfic allows us a lot of wonderful things, and one of those can be escapism. So never let anyone make you feel bad about sticking to the things you like; this is all just relevant to my personal fic tastes.
And regarding those, in answer to your other question — I know I’ve got a list somewhere, lj or dw maybe, with a pretty full list of my likes and dislikes and squicks, but I haven’t updated it in a long time, so:
(I’m applying these to Harry/Draco, but I’ll read a bunch of other pairings too. Harry/Teddy, Draco/Albus, some Jeddy and Scorbus, Harry/Sirius, a bit of Wolfstar, James Sirius/Albus Severus, Romione, and Pansmione are probably my faves)
Squicks and/or squick-ish content (ie, stuff my friends would never put in a gift fic for me. lol) I’ll only read if I know the writer very well and trust them (asterisks next to the ones I’m more rigid about):
-Suicide**
-Self-harm (especially cutting)**
-Vomit/scat play***
-Major character death
-Unhappily ambiguous endings
-Character bashing*** (to be fair, if a writer does this, I don’t usually like a lot of their stuff)
-Endings (happy or unhappy) where my preferred couple doesn’t end up together**
That’s it. And I make exceptions.
General fic dislikes that I’ll “psh” if I’ve read a couple of the writers things and like them, but that still have the ability to turn me off of a story real quick:
-Non-con
-Massive deviations from canon characterization. (Meaning: Draco is incredibly flamboyant and there’s no explanation or hints as to why/how he’d become so; Harry hates Ron; Ron is stupid; Hermione is a perky prop, etc. I’m perfectly fine reading most things if I understand why they’re that way.)
-Infidelity
-Also, when mental health issues are addressed (I tend to write about them a lot), I dislike grandstanding about them as much as I dislike them being glossed over, if that makes any sense. If I want to read detailed explanations about mental illness, I’ve got about two dozen textbooks I can refer to; alternately, if trauma is brought up in the fic, there needs to be (for me), some exploration of it.
-Permanent disability fics
-Fisting
-Muggle AU’s
-Mpreg — very rarely (usually just because I’m not often in the mood for it)

Aaannnd most other sexual kinks you don’t see listed under my squicks or dislikes.
So there you go. A non-comprehensive guide to what I like and look for in a fic. Like I said, I’m not too picky about my dislikes these days (if I was, I wouldn’t be reading puppy play or consensual non-con or double penetration, and there are fics with those contents that have blown me the fuck away), but it’s really a personal thing. Kink tomato, and Fic Tomato (which idk if the latter is a thing, but I hope everyone gets what I mean. lol).
Thanks so much for the ask, nonnie!  It was a bit of a treat to stop and really consider how my fic likes and dislikes have changed over the last couple of years. Highly recommend you making your own list — and never letting anyone make you feel bad about it! ;D

Hi...hi! I hope i'm not bothering you, but can i ask your opinion about oboro? I love him so much and i don't get it why some of fans doesn't like him. thank you so much ^^
Hi! Don’t worry, you’re not bothering me at all. :) I’m always happy to talk about Gintama in any way. That’s why I made this blog.
Sometimes people don’t like certain characters because they just don’t and we don’t have to like every single character. To me, though, that’s different from those who seem to have a personal vendetta against characters and spend their time hating them and talking about how much they hate them, which makes no sense to me. Why waste time on characters you hate when you can invest that time in the characters you love? There’s a difference between critiquing a character and outright hating on them just to be petty and cause drama.
Anyway, on to Oboro, who I like and don’t hate in the slightest – and this doesn’t mean I seek to justify his actions. People get confused on this to the point where they take start judging people’s moral character just from the characters they like, especially if they are villains. This kind of logic comes from the desire to put everyone on a pedestal, even fictional characters, without realizing that it’s possible to like a character without needing to somehow justify what they’ve done so that you can appear morally superior to others. There are some anime and book villains I like, but it doesn’t mean I’m a terrible person who’d do the same bad deeds. It simply means I like the way they were designed and the role they play in the story. Writing a good villain can be as challenging as writing a good hero or character in general.
Okay, now back to Oboro for real:
(Putting the rest of my answer under a cut for spoilers, so heads up, Anon, if you haven’t read the Rakuyou arc.
Also, to the other Anon before, I will reply to your second message with additional thoughts of mine in several hours’ time. My brain needs rest first. Thank you for your patience.)
Some people don’t like Oboro because he’s done some less than heroic things. There’s no going around this and we don’t need to make excuses for what he’s done. Oboro is the leader of the Naraku, who have been in league with the Tendoshuu, who are not exactly nice people. Focusing on Oboro only, he’s fought and injured Gintoki and put the people he cares about in danger. He played a role in Shouyou’s execution, damaged Takasugi’s eye and more, and has just generally shown up to throw a wrench in the plans of the people we usually root for. Plus, being involved with Shouyou in that way caused a lot of physical pain and psychological trauma for Gintoki, Takasugi, and Katsura…that doesn’t exactly make some fans wave their pom-poms for him.
Oboro seemingly died in the Courtesan of a Nation arc and people thought that was the last we’d see of him. Then, he reappeared in the Shogun Assassination arc, where he also seemingly died and they thought that was it. And then he appeared again in the Farewell Shinsengumi arc and sustained major injuries. And then so on to the Rakuyou arc. This man just wouldn’t stay dead or immobilized, and that probably annoyed people, especially when he kept trying to kill Gintoki and others.
As for myself, I liked Oboro before I knew of his back story. I think he’s an interesting antagonist and one of my favourites in the series. One reason is because he’s voiced by Inoue Kazuhiko, who is one of my favourite voice actors. I think Oboro has a cool character design and stellar combat skills. I like that he’s rather stoic and isn’t figuratively twirling his moustache with evil glee like others. He stays calm and composed for the most part, except for when he becomes enraged.
Tumblr media
(Doesn’t he look so cool? I had to include this pic.)
I also like that he’s one of the people who can give Gintoki a hard time in battle. Now, that doesn’t mean I like when people harm Gintoki, but if he were all-powerful and constantly defeating people without any challenge at all, it would be boring and predictable. The Gintoki vs. Oboro fight is memorable for the fact that Oboro was a tough opponent who brought back unwanted war memories.
Oboro shares many parallels with Gintoki. Besides physical appearance, they owe their lives to the same man: Yoshida Shouyou. Very much like Gintoki, Oboro tagged along with Shouyou, unwilling to leave him, feeling indebted to him for saving his life. Oboro has a rather low opinion of himself, as shown in the flashbacks of the Rakuyou arc: he didn’t believe himself to be anyone special or of importance to others. An orphan bought and sold by bandits, Oboro didn’t expect anything more and knew nothing more than pain, fear, and emptiness with no purpose in life except to serve others as an object, not a human being. And that makes my heart ache.
He’s not on a quest for ultimate power or to destroy the world for the heck of it. All of that is the result of his loyalty to Shouyou/Utsuro; he’ll do whatever it takes to “remove obstacles in that man’s way,” and if it means the downfall of a nation or killing Shouyou’s other students, so be it. Even years later, he only sees himself as a vessel to be used, a servant to Utsuro, forevermore.
Oboro was willing to do anything for Shouyou, prepared to become even an assassin. He was ready to become the first disciple of Shouyou’s and start a new life with him. And when the Naraku assassins came looking for them, Oboro sacrificed himself just so that Shouyou could escape and make his dream of opening up Shouka Sonjuku a reality. Oboro knew Shouyou no longer wanted to kill, and wanted his teacher and saviour to achieve all that because Oboro loved Shouyou more than his own life. Shouyou made Oboro feel human.
That kind of dedication speaks volumes of Oboro’s character. But, of course, Oboro survived, the Naraku made him one of their own, and he decided to rise up in the ranks – all to protect Utsuro, even if he could no longer be with him. Everything was and is for Utsuro/Shouyou. Everything.
Then, Oboro saw Shouyou with Gintoki, Katsura, and Takasugi. He must’ve been relieved and glad that Shouyou was able to accomplish his dream and give new life to other children…but I can only imagine the deep sorrow Oboro must’ve felt, because he could not be with them, that he was apparently forgotten by the man he was so devoted to. Hearing him express his wish, that he “would have liked to become one of them,” as his dying words…it really breaks my heart because I bet he would have been such a good older brother figure to Gintoki, Takasugi, and Katsura in another world and time.
That deep sorrow turned into something else, and Oboro pulled strings to have Utsuro arrested and then executed. “To get my master, I killed my master” – twisted, to say the least, and yet fascinating. Shouyou returned, but not as the man Oboro once knew: Utsuro. But that didn’t matter – it’s something Oboro points out to Takasugi, the key difference between them. Shouyou, Utsuro, the name doesn’t matter, because he is one and the same to Oboro.
But after his “blood vow” was fulfilled and he was about to die, Oboro told Takasugi and all of Shouyou’s disciples, consequently, the truth about Shouyou/Utsuro. Even at the end, Oboro wanted Shouyou to be free again, free from his immortality that causes him so much suffering. He knows Shouyou’s other students – most especially Gintoki – will be the ones to bring an end to that. He was probably envious of their closeness with Shouyou, that they got to spend more time with Shouyou than he did, but still, he shared vital information to help them, even after he had tried to kill them. Then, as I stated here, I believe Oboro dying at Takasugi’s hands for good was a fitting end for him.
And that’s why I love Oboro. He’s a complicated man and a memorable antagonist. His devotion to Shouyou led him down a twisted and tragic path, but I’m sure he would have preferred it to a life of nothingness without Shouyou.
I can understand why people might dislike him, but I will always be fond of him.
