what was the audition process like for samantha sloyan? she’s one of my favourite actresses in the flanaverse and i think she’s so underrated and seems amazing to work with!
Samantha Sloyan is one of the best actresses working today.
I met Sam through my wife, they've been best friends for over a decade. When we were getting ready to make HUSH, we needed someone to come out and play the doomed neighbor Sarah - it was a tough part to cast, because we needed someone to do a quick scene and then get brutally murdered. The movie didn't have much money at all, and Kate recommended Sam for it. She came out, and the rest is history.
She did a phenomenal job. Over the years, I was actively looking for opportunities to cast Sam again. She's just a joy to work with, one of the kindest, most hard-working people I've ever met in this business. Zero attitude, no ego, just a talented actor who wants to do great work. I was able to get her a smaller part in HILL HOUSE (she had to audition, and I don't think she should have had to).
But the big one for me was MIDNIGHT MASS. I wrote the part of Beverly Keane with Sam in mind, and I knew from day 1 that she'd crush it. As is the case with a lot of fantastic casting choices, I had to fight to convince Netflix to cast her - they made her read for it, more than once, over my objections - but finally they relented.
She owned that role. Which is funny to me, because Sam is about as far from Beverly Keane as a person can get. She's kind to a fault, humble, and gentle with everyone she encounters. She's profoundly accepting and empathetic. Watching her transform into Bev was nothing short of stunning, and now I feel bad because I think some people cross to the other side of the street when they see her in public.
Her work in FALL OF THE HOUSE OF USHER is also sublime. And a complete departure from anything I've ever seen her do.
I've never understood why more filmmakers didn't immediately scoop her up after MASS. She's one of the best kept secrets in the industry, and I don't know why people aren't just falling over themselves to work with her. I think it's because she was TOO good at her job.

I love how Ellie had to save herself in the show. Joel didn’t find her until after she had decided she had beaten David to death enough and walked out of that burning building on her own. Only then does he find her, unlike in the game where he stops her from continuing to hit David.
She also just looks so closed off and broken as they stumble away together. Like she is just dead inside.

As I loved RRR, I've been watching more Tallywood films, in specific with Ram Charan and Tarak as main stars. Unfortunately not together, as their only movie together is RRR when seriously, they have the power and chemistry to be India's Terence Hill and Bud Spencer (To the fetuses in the audience, they were a pair of actors who made a ton of Buddy movies together, where something happened at the beginning that made them have to solve the problem by hitting everyone who got in their way. My personal favorite is Look out, we're mad. The extra twist was that Bud, the fat, hairy one, was usually the level headed one, and Terence, the blonde, blue eyed, traditionally handsome, was chaos in a bottle)
ANYWAY, I've watched so far Magadheera (Adorable romance, Ram Charan does a double role as Harsha, a biker, and Kala Bhairava, his reincarnation), Yamadonga (Funny as hell, where Tarak plays Raja, a thief who falls in love, but also ends up in hell where he steals the God of the Dead's power before getting sent back to earth), Rangashtalam (which I can't describe without spoilers but has one hell of a twist and also portrays a side of India that is not seen in Hollywood movies without being racist, and ALSO has amazing deaf representation in the shape of the lead play by Charan, without being disability porn), and finally, Jai Lava Kusa (A rollercoaster of emotions where Tarak plays not one, but THREE roles and each of them is wonderful)
Each of their roles is so different from Ram and Bheem, you can tell how amazing actors they are even if some cultural references go past you.
That said, Lava Kumar, from Jai Lava Kusa, is SO, SO gullible, that I am almost sure he's single handedly keeping Nigeria's economy afloat. On the other hand, Chitti Babu from Rangashtalam has my award for most human looking chicken, winning over Chickity Boo by a landslide.

NIGHT FOR NIGHT | From Music Creator Simon Poole (2023)

Wow. I'm not sure what the plot was exactly, but it's powerful, and Percy's acting was amazing.
You certainly feel some type of way by the end. For something that's only about 5 minutes long, it's an amazing piece of work.

Alicents face when Rhaenyra made that toast was so hearthbreaking for me. The shock and hope and almost disbelief that her former best friend was still willing to be on good terms or at least netural terms with her after so many years and that she thinks of her like that. Especially because it was mostly Alicent who held stronger resentment towards Rhaenyra for years I don't think she would've thought that Rhaenyra is going to be the one who initiates the "peace".
I think she genuinely wanted to make things right in that moment.
So sad that we won't see their reconciliatin because of a fucking misunderstanding and everyone naming their kid Aegon.

No like....the fact this man beat this shit out of her and their daughter....and Kang Hyeon Nam STILL mourns him!?!?!
BRUH....
This is a man she fell in love with once. She fell out of love just as fast, too. Damn. That frikin killed me.
She didn't mourn his death. She had been mourning for ages but gosh dang...that hit man.
Women are so powerful.

Top 5 best actors who have made me genuinely feel the emotions and characters they're portraying (MAJOR SPOILERS BELOW)
Daiki Yamashita, voicing Liontari from Children Of The Whales; He manages to get Liontari's insanity and make it seem real, but also use a hint of desperation and sadness in his voice that makes it so much more realistic, and the fact that he also voices Deku, whose personality is a total 180 from Liontari's, just makes me so shocked. Also a very weird part of me keeps replaying Liontari's scenes just to hear Daiki Yamashita's amazing voice acting
Daiki Mihara, portraying Mitsuba Sousuke in the Toilet Bound Hanako-kun Musical; He is very good at capturing Mitsuba's cockiness and sass, but also, his screams that occur in the scenes where Tsukasa changes his rumour and he becomes Mystery No.3? They're heartbreakingly genuine and sound so real that I felt a bit dizzy after watching those scenes. Not triggered or anything, just amazed.
Jeremy Jordan, voicing Varian in Tangled The Series; I am in awe of this man's talent, and the only reason he's at No.3 in this list is because I really love the raw emotion that is emitted from the other two. His ability to sound so heartbroken yet so determined in Let Me Make You Proud Reprise, and the way his voice cracks when he sings, "I'm the bad guy, that's fine." in Ready As I'll Ever Be just makes me feel things I can't describe, and it really emphasises Varian's pain. Also the sheer sadness in his voice during Nothing Left To Lose literally kicks me in the feels without mercy-
Phillipa Soo, portraying Eliza Hamilton in the musical Hamilton; Can I just say, Phillipa being able to go from 'Helpless', a lovesick, euphoric young woman, to 'That Would Be Enough', a concerned wife, to 'Burn', a heartbroken wife who has just been cheated on, to 'Stay Alive Reprise', a mother about to lose her firstborn son, to 'It's Quiet Uptown', a grieving mother, and finally 'Who Lives Who Dies Who Tells Your Story', a woman at the end of her life, all in one musical, is t a l e n t- Especially that little gasp at the end of WLWDWTYS and her pained scream at the end of Stay Alive Reprise, I can safely say, her acting is what reduces me to tears throughout Act 2 of Hamilton.
Eito Konishi, portaying Hanako-kun/Yugi Amane in the Toilet Bound Hanako-kun Musical; The way Eito Konishi manages to check all three boxes for the three modes of Hanako, I will never know; Taunting, playful ghost, depressed, secretive kid, and straight up yandere. He manages to give me chills at all of Hanako's yandere moments, makes me want to cry throughout the scenes with him and Tsukasa, (and also the whole backstory of Tsuchigomori's Yorishiro), and makes me laugh every time he does something dumb or teases Yashiro. He is basically a triple threat, and a good one at that.

This episode was really fucking good. I loved seeing Marc and Steven interact with each other. Going through and seeing Marc's memories, seeing Steven's first appearance. Oscar's acting was phenomenal. JAKE????? JAKE'S FIRST APPEARANCE????? You knew immediately that it was Jake talking with Harrow, the subtle change in facial expression and the manic behavior??? Love you Jake.
Steven saying what his mom yelled at Marc and then taking it back and reassuring Marc was such a good decision. Seeing Marc and Steven care for each other and understand each other a bit more.
What I don't like about these Disney Marvel shows is how short the seasons are. Netflix was cranking out 13 episodes per season. Feige give me 13 episodes of Moon Knight please!!!!!!!! I also don't understand how Marc is going to leave the Field of Reeds, free Khonshu, save Steven (unless Khonshu can save Steven once he is freed), and stop Harrow + Ammit.
Overall, really enjoyed this episode. Really love this series although nothing can top Daredevil, but this is a close third (love you WandaVision).
