@inukag-week 2023 | May 30 | Prompt: “Possession”
Summary: Inuyasha smokes some demon grade weed.
Read here or on Ao3
Tumblr media
"This is bullshit," Inuyasha mumbled under his breath as he slid down the tree bark and glared at the well in the distance. Yet again Kagome had run off without actually telling him what was wrong. Why that woman thought he'd just inherently know what he did wrong he'd never understand but what he did know was that her reaction was definitely an overreaction. Nothing would ever get accomplished if she didn't talk to him and use words. Not that he was better at it or nothing but that was beside the point. This non-fight was the absolutely last thing he needed too. Between Naraku coming up with increasingly creative ways to kill people and Kikyo popping up earlier in the week for the specific purpose of trying to alienate him, Inuyasha was tired. He was burnt out. He just wanted one god damn afternoon where he didn't have to-
Blinking a few times, Inuyasha got an idea. A wonderful idea. A wonderful, awful idea. He hadn’t ventured that way for a little, uh, relaxation technique since he’d gotten sealed to a tree but given recent interactions, Inuyasha was 99.9% positive that Tōtōsai had kept up the habit and was very confident that the old offer to join at any time still stood.
The first time he'd ventured out that way he'd gone to try to seek shelter during his human night when he was much, much younger. Too young and far too inexperienced with life to properly care for himself. A demon had been hunting him for weeks and he'd barely eaten, barely slept, barely survived. Myoga, in a rare moment of usefulness, somehow tracked his tiny self down and told him where to go. Totosai did indeed offer protection from both the demon and the death by starvation but upon seeing the sight of the tiny boy, he’d also immediately offered his pipe. Looking back Inuyasha had many thoughts and harbored lots of well-deserved judgment on the age front but he couldn't bring himself to be mad over it. When he finally came back to his senses after those first choking drags, he'd felt full and well rested. He'd gone back at least once a year until the whole tree thing and now seemed as good a time as any to pick the ritual back up.
Best of all, a little trip to Totosai wouldn't be too suspicious and he could probably go with no questions asked. Even if someone did question it, it'd be so, so easy to come up with a plausible excuse now that he had his sword and an actual reason to go. The biggest obstacle had gone home to her world so there'd be no real interrogation and what Kagome didn't know wouldn’t hurt him.  Besides, it wasn't like they'd be doing anything or going anywhere. He could just "sulk" in the tree and no one would bother him. For once, once, he could get his mind off things and maybe feel like an actual person again instead of whatever anxiety riddled gremlin he'd been recently.
This was the best idea he'd ever had.
"I'm going to repair my weapon," Inuyasha announced calmly to the others who offered to join him. He politely, suspiciously so, declined citing Kagome's possible return as the reason before taking off.
Tumblr media
Kagome gasped as a sudden surge of youkai woke her up from a dead sleep. It would be more alarming if it was unfamiliar but she knew instantly who it was. Sitting up, she rubbed one eye with her hand before throwing off the covers and looking around in the dark. Her window was open but there was no Inuyasha. The sound of clinking coming from downstairs told her where he'd gone to and she groaned as she slowly made her way to see what trouble Inuyasha was getting into.
Honestly, Inuyasha’s random visit pissed her off. It was only three days into her week long stay. It was past midnight. He was being so inconsiderate it wasn’t even funny.
"InuYasha? What are you doing here?" Kagome yawned irritably as she entered the kitchen and stretched her arms above her head, "Do you even know what time-“
Something invisible and putrid smacked her in the face before she could finish her sentence.
“Oh my god, what is that?”
She gagged. Her hand flew up to pinch her nose and she began heavily breathing through her mouth. Inuyasha - the ever sensitive Inuyasha - did not seem bothered. Why was this disgusting stench familiar?  It was getting worse the longer she stood here too. Her eyes darted to the trash can and a little vomit pooled in the back of her throat. Something had to be rotting in there. Had to be. Except it didn't really smell like rot. It smelled like Inuyasha got sprayed by something which would explain why he didn't seem to notice. Probably knocked his butt out until he got used to it.
Inuyasha giggled and Kagome's mind momentarily glitched.
"Inu-"
"Ramen. It's ramen. Put it in the microwave," Inuyasha mumbled as he gave her a dopey smile and pointed at what he obviously believed to be the microwave. Hand still covering her face, Kagome looked endlessly confused and utterly over whatever was happening. Inching over to grab the room spray her mom kept on the counter, Kagome let out a few puffs before finally removing her hand. God, did Inuyasha get sprayed by something? What type of demon did that? She’d have to admit a deterrent like that would work on her.
"The microwave?" Kagome coughed lightly as she came to stand beside him and gave him a concerned glance, "Don't get me wrong. I mean I'm proud of you for knowing what a microwave does but, uh, I don't think you know what a microwave...is."
"Yeah. Duh," he replied a little defensively as he gestured at the damn thing, "I pressed the button. Damn things busted."
Kagome slowly opened the door and removed the small cup of instant ramen from the shelf before looking down at the half a dozen ice cubes on the floor. Yeah, he'd pressed a button alright. The small puddle of water also implied he pressed multiple buttons.
"So, uh, this is a refrigerator," Kagome explained cautiously and Inuyasha blinked at her, “It keeps things cold. It, um, doesn't cook. Why don’t I boil you some water and you can go take a shower or-“
Out of nowhere, a noise echoed in the quiet kitchen. A cross between a stifled snort and drunken giggles. A strange sound that had Kagome freezing after she set down the now useless ramen and picked up a towel to clean up his mess. Sapphire eyes widened in shock and she took a step back when InuYasha doubled over and the noise increased in volume.
"I'm so stupid," he cackled, “Cold doesn’t hot.”
Setting down the cup, Kagome grimaced as she awkwardly made her way to pick up the ice cubes and wipe up the small puddle. His frightening laughter subsided slowly into a sigh before he began sniffing madly.
"Where do you keep the fucking potatoes?" he groaned as he stumbled, actually stumbled, towards the pantry before holding himself up in a clear attempt to act like nothing out of the ordinary was happening.
"Potatoes?"
"Yeah," Inuyasha huffed softly as his eyes darted around and he pouted, "You know. Po-tay-toes."
"Um, we don't have any potatoes and even if we did, you shouldn’t eat them raw," Kagome mumbled worriedly, "Are you...are you okay? Did you get attacked or something?"
"S’not the point. Potatoes. Now," InuYashya whined in frustration as he slowly turned to face her, "You know where they are. Help me.”
Kagome blinked rapidly at him as her concern rocketed into full blown panic before startling when he suddenly spun and grinned at the cabinet above the stove.
"AH. There. C’mere you bastards," he snickered before sniffing madly and obviously following something's scent until he came to stand in front of the stove. And then just kinda stood there swaying lightly.
"That has fire in it," he giggled stupidly - pointing at the oven like it was the funniest thing he'd ever seen. Kagome froze. What the hell was happening? Since when did InuYasha giggle or act so...so dumb? When he glanced over his shoulder at her with red tinged eyes, something clicked.
"Wait, are you high?" Kagome snorted when Inuyasha suddenly looked like a child with his hand caught in the candy jar.
"Mayyybe," he replied after a moment as he gave her a playful yet challenging glare before huffing and sniffing once more, "Where are the fucking potatoes?"
It finally clicked in Kagome's mind what he was really after. Chips. He was looking for potato chips.
"Sit down before you hurt yourself," Kagome sighed bemusedly at his obvious desire for munchies, "Wait a minute and I'll get you some potato chips."
InuYasha glared.
"Don't need you to help me. I'm not weak like you dumb humans," he protested as he turned his attention back to the cupboard above the stove, "The chips are up there. I can do it."
"Yeah, you can get the chips," Kagome snorted as she tried and failed to hide her amusement, "So are you, uh, going to do that? You know, open the door?"
"Oh right," he giggled softly as he did just that and quickly found what he wanted. The poor bag of potato chips never stood a chance and soon he was hovering over Kagome's shoulder anxiously awaiting his next snack.
"So, um, what did you, uh, take?" Kagome asked before blushing when he suddenly rested his chin on her shoulder and wrapped his arms around her waist.
"Went to visit Totosai," he hummed happily as he buried his nose into her neck and tightened his hold, "Fuck you smell amazing."
"What does Totosai have to..." Kagome managed time breathe before her eyes widened in realization. The old demon wasn't senile. He was just a stoner. There was weed in that pipe he was always puffing on. The world made sense again. Well sorta. It surprised her that Inuyasha had, uh, partaken.
"I could stay here forever. You smell like a blanket. I love blankets,” he breathed as his nose pressed into skin. Kagome blushed and angled her neck slightly away.
"Well, um, it’s good that at least one of us smells nice,” Kagome chuckled awkwardly before clearing her throat and focusing on the slowly boiling water. Inuyasha hummed again and began to sway taking her along with him.
"So you went to see Totosai?" Kagome continued as her cheeks flamed crimson. Part of her was mortified. Part of her was pleased. Part of her was already wondering whether traditional laundry detergent would work to get weed smell out of clothes or if she needed to go buy something stronger.
"Yeah," he replied quietly as he pressed a soft kiss against her neck. Kagome’s eyes nearly bugged out of her head and every muscle in her body tensed. The whistling of the kettle was the most welcome thing she'd ever heard.
"Let go of me. I need to make your ramen," Kagome coughed lightly and Inuyasha giggled softly as he tightened his hold.
"Go make it then," he challenged playfully before he gently nibbled on her ear lobe. Kagome shuddered and groaned.
"Inuyasha, stop. This isn’t like you," she breathed as she writhed slightly under the attention.
"I am me," he countered as he buried his nose into her neck, "I love ramen.”
He paused before giggling, "Almost as much as I love you."
Kagome froze before rolling her eyes and reaching for the thankfully nearby cup of noodles. Inuyasha was just high as hell. He didn’t mean it. If the bastard was here, he probably would've told Naraku he loved him too.
Awkwardly pouring the water into the cup, which was a struggle when a snickering half-demon refused to let her go, she waited the necessary seconds before damn near thrusting the cup under his nose. He released her instantly as he took the ramen in both hands and stared at it like he'd was seeing god.
"You are the best thing that has ever happened to me," he cooed at the tiny cup before his mouth fell open in mild confusion. Kagome rolled her eyes before presenting him with chopsticks. He grinned at those too then wiggled happily.
Quickly devouring the cup like eating was going out of style, his bites slowed and dilated yet confused amber eyes suddenly honed in on her face.
"You're pretty. I'll give you that," he muttered before taking another bite and narrowing his eyes in silent accusation, "But I'm spoken for."
Kagome couldn't help the way that broke her heart. Tears began selling in the corners of her eyes, and she began to head back up towards her bedroom. Of course, he was spoken for. Kikyo was Kikyo was Kikyo and she would just never...
"See my bitch makes the ramen," he continued as though nothing happened and he took another bite before tossing the now empty cup onto the floor, "All you did was give me chopsticks. So you can smell aroused all you want little girl. I'm taken. My bitch'll probably be back soon and I'd like to keep my balls intact. Thanks but no thanks."
Kagome blinked once before slowly turning around. If he was this far gone that he didn't realize who he was speaking to...
What the hell had he smoked?
"So…you have a, um, girlfriend then?”
Inuyasha clumsily looked up and scowled.
“She’s prettier than you.”
Kagome choked on a laugh but otherwise managed to keep her composure.
”Tell me about her," she asked quietly as she slowly sat down at the kitchen table. Inuyasha blinked a few times then his irritated face went blank.
"I’m so fucking hungry. What the shit,” he muttered suddenly as he headed back towards the pantry and Kagome sighed.
Whatever Totosai had given him packed a punch, didn't it? Aside from the munchies, he was acting a little too out of it for the drug of choice to just be weed. Not that she was experienced with that or anything but Inuyasha seemed a little too out of it.  The weed had to be laced with something. Or maybe it was just demon grade? And how long would this last? The journey from Totosai's home took at least a day. Had he just been wandering around all that time or was his craving for ramen that bad? It was a miracle he hadn't died.
Inuyasha came back moments later with literally all the chips and began tearing into the first bag before he seemed to realize she was still there.
"There you are. I wondered where you went. Can't just leave me like that," he cooed happily before he began forcing handfuls of chips down his throat. Those red tinted amber eyes staring at her with nothing short of pure adoration. Like she was the most beautiful thing he had ever seen in his entire life. He blinked a few times before looking around.
"Where the hell did that other bitch go?" InuYasha asked in a confused tone as he glanced around the kitchen.
"It's just you and me, InuYasha," Kagome snorted softly - deciding to ignore the continued semi-insult in favor of  enjoying Inuyasha's semi-adorable babbling, "There was no one else."
"Whatever. Some girl comes in to steal me then that’s what you get for leaving," he huffed as he sent her a smug dopey grin, "Women love me. I am pretty."
A hand flew up to her mouth and Kagome shook with the effort of not laughing so hard she cried.
”That so?” she managed to counter in between stifled giggles. Inuyasha looked crestfallen and cocked his head to the side.
”Am I not pretty?”
Aw. He looked so sad.
”You are the prettiest thing I’ve ever seen,” she hummed - her cheeks were starting to hurt from holding back her grin. Inuyasha preened a little and popped more chips into his mouth.
"You  don't smell pretty though. I think you need a shower," Kagome pointed out affectionately as she rested her chin on her hand.
"Why? I’m pretty," Inuyasha mumbled as he continued munching and absently looking around. Kagome rolled her eyes. She might have to just deal with the smell. After all, he was so blazed it was entirely possible he’d drown himself.
The things we tolerate for love.
Speaking of love...
Inuyasha began to hum a song and lightly sway his head, Kagome plucked up her courage.
"Inuyasha," she sing-songed and his dopey grin was back full force, "I love my pretty boy."
"Obviously," he giggled once before ripping open yet another bag of unsuspecting junk food.
"Does my pretty boy love me?" she sing-songed again trying to fight down the anxiety that followed. The look of love shining in his slightly altered eyes grew exponentially. Kagome held her breath and waited for him to say it. Just once. Even if it wasn’t true.
But then his face abruptly fell and he glared down at the chips in his hand.
"Fuck. I knew this wasn't ramen," he scoffed in disgust before continuing to eat the poor defenseless food items.
Kagome rolled her eyes but felt satisfied with his answer. Whether it the weed talking or him, the look said it all. And that was enough to heal some of her broken heart. At least for a little while.
Tumblr media
Groaning, Kagome tiredly batted away the fly tickling her nose and tried to roll away from the sensation. Five hours. It took Inuyasha five entire hours of being a bottom pit and an absolute idiot before he finally passed out. Part of her was glad that he’d come here because the list of worst case scenarios were endless. He could barely walk straight. Ran into several walls. Ate literally everything he could get his hands on.
“Pretty girl it’s time to wake up,” Inuyasha’s voice suddenly hummed happily into her hair - his nose gently brushing against her temple, “I let you sleep all day.”
Something warm and wet pressed against her temple. The bed shifted and a weight settled. Gentle claws began carding through her hair.
Once her mind registered what was happening, Kagome went from groggy to fully awake in less than three seconds. She stiffly rolled onto her back and sat up to look at a very pleased Inuyasha perched at the edge of her bed.
“W-what?”
“I was saying that it’s time to wake up,” he repeated but there was a playful look in his eyes, “You need to study, right?”
Kagome opened then closed her mouth several times before glancing down at her alarm clock. Two. It was two. Thank god it was Sunday.
“I, um, cleaned up the kitchen,” he continued in that same soft and happy tone - his hand moving to lightly stroke her thigh, “And took a shower. And sorry about, um, last night.”
Kagome looked back up at him - concerned that he was still high because since when did Inuyasha talk to her like this. Before she could find the right thing to ask, he pulled his hand back and averted his gaze.
“Did you…” he blurted nervously, “What you said. You meant it, right?”
It didn’t take a genius to know what he was referring to. Still-
After what he put her through last night, she was feeling a little salty. Might as well play with him a bit.
“Yes, you are the prettiest boy I’ve ever met,” Kagome offered with a playful confidence. Inuyasha’s ear flicked in annoyance. His cheeks, though, turned pink.
“Gee. Thanks,” he mumbled and she watched his Adam’s apple bob. His knee started bouncing and his ears pinned back against his skull.
“Oh. Oh you meant the other thing?” Kagome playfully threw him a bone and Inuyasha nodded faintly For some reason, his insecurity gave her confidence.
“Yeah. Meant the other thing I said too.”
Inuyasha glanced at her with hope in his eyes. He also looked a little irritated.
“Which other thing? You said a lot of things.”
“Ah. But so did you. Told me all your secrets,” Kagome teased and Inuyasha’s blush turned his ears pink but his face did something beautiful.
A flicker of fear and then, he seemed to accept there was no reason to worry. Shortly thereafter, he turned the color of his robes and let out a shaky laugh.
“Worth it though. I…” Inuyasha paused and scratched at his nose, “I liked when you called me pretty.”
The mumbled words were spoken so quickly it was a miracle Kagome understood him.
"Technically speaking, you said it first and I just played along," she teased before paling slightly at the knowing smirk he gave her in response.
"That so?" he hummed - amber taking on a pleased and mischievous glint, "Did you just happen to forget I have excellent hearing?"
A red blush began creeping into Kagome's cheeks.
"I mean you typically say something about how good I look at least once a week," he continued playfully, "That was just the first time you said it to my face."
Kagome pursed her lips and thought about denying it but saw no point in doing so. So she simply sighed and offered a guilty smile.
“Well, i mean, you are my pretty boy,” Kagome hummed as her smile widened, “My good boy.”
Inuyasha's face darkened instantly.
“I don’t like that one.”
“Noted,” Kagome acquiesced happily. Sitting up more fully, she crawled over to him and positioned her face in just the right place should he feel the urge to kiss her, “So, do I just get to assume or-“
Inuyasha took the hint and dipped forward while his hands quickly settled her body on his lap. Pulling her close, he took a break for air and gave her the most beautiful little grin.
“Fine, fine, yeah, I love you too.”

Am I the only one here who likes InuKik better than InuKag?
DISCLAIMER: This little analysis took me quite some time to type out, so I'd appreciate it if you didn't downvote it right away and at least read it until the end.
I haven't finished the anime yet (currently at episode 129) but from what I've seen so far, I can safely say that I'm not too fond of InuKag as a ship. It just kind of seems like one of those bland "boy meets girl and they fall in love" ships. Sure, they have some cute moments here and there, but what really turns me away from the ship is stuff like Kagome constantly - and I mean CONSTANTLY - abusing the power of the beads of subjugation whenever she's in a bad mood and everyone in the group siding with her without even considering Inuyasha's feelings in the matter. He just needs to say or do something that might irritate Kagome even in the slightest, and the next thing we see is him face-planting at least once after an unsolicited sit command from Kagome.
For example, in one episode where he was in the modern world, Kagome's mother sent him on an errand to bring lunch to her daughter. What's the first thing Kagome does when he reaches her and is about to give her the lunchbox? That's right, she tells him to sit. This is but one of many examples that I noticed in the anime.
Here's another one: Kagome brings food from her era to Feudal Japan and cooks for the whole group. Nobody complains about her cooking, however, Inuyasha seems to prefer the instant ramen over the food that Kagome made. What does Kagome do? She gets angry and tells him to sit.
Last one: Inuyasha goes to see Kikyo. She's his first love, the first woman who ever accepted him for who he was after a lifetime of being ostracised from two fronts for being a half demon, a being that isn't wanted in neither human nor demon communities. Kagome gets angry over him wanting to see Kikyo and tells him to sit. While I understand the sentiment of her being angry and jealous, by no means does this warrant physically harming Inuyasha by making him face-plant into the ground.
Kikyo, on the other hand, seems to really, truly care about him. Sure, she did go overboard when she attempted to drag him down into hell with her because she wanted to die with him, and she held a knife against his throat at some point when she talked about the weakness that is Naraku's human heart, but she never intentionally harmed him, right? She was incited to kill Inuyasha by Naraku and sealed him against a tree by piercing his heart with a holy arrow, but she did that because she was under the impression that Inuyasha fatally wounded her - when it really was Naraku who disguised himself as Inuyasha to trick Kikyo into hating her lover. Before the tragedy, they seemed like a happy couple that was just about to achieve perfect harmony by becoming normal people. Inuyasha was very close to using the sacred jewel to become a human - a normal person. The consequence of this would've been that the jewel would've gotten purified, which would've released Kikyo from thr burdens of being a priestess, she could've become an ordinary woman, too.
Whenever Kagome punishes Inuyasha through the beads of subjugation for whatever reason, everyone in the group, literally EVERYONE sides with her. "Poor Kagome, how could that dummy Inuyasha hurt your feelings like this by going after Kikyo?", I dunno, have you considered the fact that this is his first love we're talking about here? He still loves and yearns for Kikyo. He can't let her go, because his feelings for Kikyo are still strong. Of course, it's normal for Kagome to get jealous. It's a human trait. But that doesn't mean it's okay for her to just yeet him into the ground like a toy figure every time he does something that's not to her liking? If we'd turn the tables, if Inuyasha would dare to hit Kagome even ONCE out of a bad mood, I'm sure there would be an uproar about this in the Fandom.
Kagome just seems like this moody, entitled schoolgirl, while Kikyo gives off more calm and mature vibes. This is also the reason I like Kikyo more than Kagome. She puts more thought into her actions.

Are we gonna fall in love with The Girl At the Rock Show ? :D
Tumblr media
This is the story I started writing for goshinote’s birthday back in October! Jane loves enemies-to-lovers stories, so this was my first attempt at it.
I shared a snippet of this a few months back, but here’s a little more info:
Inuyasha works as a security guard at a large outdoor concert venue
He meets Kagome (the new marketing/event coordinator for the venue) on a really bad day and is an asshole to her, rubbing her the wrong way immediately and leading to a tense work environment whenever they run into each other
There is a major mutual attraction between them, despite how much they irritate each other, and eventually they begin “hatefucking” (as Kagome calls it)
After a few months of this “hatefucking”/FWB setup, they realize they genuinely like each other and deeper feelings form, but Kagome has been hurt badly by past relationships with both men and women, and had pretty much sworn off love by the time she met Inuyasha. She is terrified of falling for someone and getting hurt again, so she acts really callous about the whole thing despite her growing feelings for him (and there’s your conflict✨)
I pushed myself to at least get a (very) rough draft done on time for her birthday, so I had gotten it to around 6k at that time...but it has sat there ever since. Currently thinking it will just be a long one or two shot, but who knows what might happen when I start filling the missing parts in?
I have no idea when this will be completed, so for now, I’ve included a (kinda spicy) rough snippet below the cut! 🔥
Thank you so much for asking @superpixie42!! 🥰 ❤️
Full list of WIPs here
Why did he look like that?
More importantly, why was it turning her on so damn much?
Inuyasha didn’t stop walking until she could feel his body heat radiating in front of her, while still leaving enough space so that she felt comfortable. She didn’t back away whatsoever, in fact only pulled her shoulders back to stand taller. Her chest rose and fell quicker than normal, powered by the electricity that flowed through the small space between them, practically begging them to touch.
“Well...I guess you wouldn’t want someone who’s such a jerk...to kiss you right now, huh?”
Kagome’s breath caught in her throat, her heart pounding so hard that she was certain he could hear it. His voice was probably the sexiest thing she’d ever heard. He was doing it on purpose: lowering it to the growling, seductive timbre that she could literally feel crawling across her skin and rippling throughout her body. She knew what game he was playing, and although her lips parted, her eyelids lowered, and her neck extended all of its own accord, she was unwilling to lose this game of sexual chicken.
“Nope,” she countered defiantly, although she knew the breathy quality of her own voice was giving her away. “I wouldn’t.”
Inuyasha leaned infinitesimally closer, making sure to pay careful attention to her scent and body language to make sure he wasn’t pushing too far. Without touching her, he got close enough for his breath to tickle the side of her neck, delighting in the goosebumps that instantly formed. She almost seemed to unconsciously arch into him, and the scent of her arousal had grown so overpowering that he almost felt dizzy from it.
“Got it.” He spoke slowly, carefully, as seductively as possible. “So...then...you definitely wouldn’t want me to take you to that couch over there, fuck you senseless, and make you come harder than you ever have before...right?”
Kagome had shivered noticeably, barely suppressing the whine that tried to escape her throat. Was it possible for someone to have an orgasm just from someone’s voice alone? Without them even touching her? If so, she’d have to say she was pretty damn close. She didn’t think anyone could blame her given the position she was in, with his tall, muscular body hovering just in front of hers, giving her that look that said he wanted to ravish her in the best of ways. Plus that. Damn. Voice.
It took every last ounce of stubborn willpower left in her body to stutter out, “N-Not even a little.”
Inuyasha let the silence that followed linger for a long moment, waiting for her to cave. When she didn’t, he finally pulled back, making it clear that he fully intended to leave her alone if she really didn’t want this, no matter what her scent (and everything else) was telling him.
“Oh well...your loss, I guess.”
After giving her one last seductive glance down and then back up her body, he finally turned to leave. He only made it halfway to the door before he felt her hand on his arm, prompting him to break out into the biggest shit-eating grin of his life.
He won.

Flora's Collection of Body-Swap Plot Bunnies - Chapter 2: Why am I the Dog-Eared Jerk from Yesterday?
This is an older plot bunny from over two years ago that I haven't added snippets to in a while. Still, when I showed it to a friend they said it was hilarious, so I decided to post it. I first wrote this when I was still in the process of first watching the series, so the characters may seem a bit OOC.
At some point, I may be adding new snippets to this plot bunny, as it's still as stuck in my head as it was years ago.

Kagome woke from sleep up the tree outside Kaede's hut, and promptly fell face first from it.
She sat up with a groan. She then noticed that she was not wearing her clothing from yesterday, and that she apparently had gotten man hands with ridiculous length nails. Spotting the silver hair falling around her red-clad shoulders, she bellowed out in a voice not her own. "Ahh!!!"
Kaede ducked her head out the reed mat serving as her door, to see what the noise was about. "Inuyasha, what be ye doing? Ye are making quite the racket."
Wide eyed, Kagome in Inuyasha's body looked over at Kaede and replied, "I-Inu-yasha?! I-I'm not... I... uh?" She looked down at her clawed hands and struggled to compose herself enough to speak. "I'm Kagome, Ka-Go-Me! Not Inuyasha! Although, I-I think I might look like him?", she said, irritated.
Kaede never got to react to that statement, because at that moment a second higher pitched scream echoed out from Kaede's hut, causing Kagome to flinch and slap her hands over where her ears should have been, but weren't.
Not having time to process that revelation, Kagome followed Kaede into the hut to see herself sitting wide-eyed and open-mouthed, starring at her clothes and hands like she'd never seen them before.
This, then, must be Inuyasha.

Kagome was absent mindedly rubbing the dog ears atop her head, and pointedly ignoring any glares directed at her by Inuyasha. His opinion on her rubbing them didn't matter when she was the one who could feel them as her own ears.
Which was still really weird, by the way.

Kagome felt like she was never going to live down the sheer embarrassment from having to use the bathroom as a guy. This whole thing just kept getting more and more strange and utterly awkward.

Short time after Inuyasha first acquires Tetsusaiga.
"How is it that when you're in my body, you're able to get my sword to transform for you when I can't?!", said Inuyasha in Kagome's body, with a tick mark on his forehead.
Kagome said, "I already told you, you need to be wanting to protect someone using this sword! That's the 'Secret'."

Night of their first new moon together.
"Kagome, why do you insist on saving everyone who is in trouble that we come across? In my body too! It's really not necessary, we're here to collect the shards of the Sacred Jewel not hand out charity!", yelled Inuyasha in Kagome's body.
The girl that Kagome saved from demons stared at them wide eyed, watching them yell at each other. Kagome said, "Helping people is a good thing to do and I would be a bad person for just standing back and watching her get torn to pieces by demons. Just how selfish are you?"

Why do I feel so off, I feel kinda weak? Is there something I should know about? – Kagome

Uhh... What? Ahh!!! I'm human! And still you, Inuyasha? What just happened to me? - Kagome

"Eh?! What do you think you are doing, monk?! Hands off!" Said Inuyasha in Kagome's body as he slugged the monk Miroku in the face for grabbing his butt. "You letch, I do not like that!"
-∙--∙-
Miroku said, "So, you switch bodies every time you two sleep at the same time? How strange. I'm not entirely sure I believe what you're saying."
Inuyasha in Kagome's body yelled indignantly, "You better believe it monk, 'cause it's the truth!" He glared at the monk for good effect.
Kagome in Inuyasha's body said in a placating manner, "Inuyasha, calm down. I can barely believe it myself, and I'm the one living it. Think how much harder it must be to believe claims that aren't immediately obvious?"
Inuyasha then yelled, "Kagome, don't tell me to calm down, 'cause I ain't calming down! You may as well tell me to SIT!"
Kagome slammed face first in to the ground, thanks to the subjugation necklace around her neck. Once she'd gotten her face out of the dirt, she sent a glower Inuyasha's direction. She was not a happy puppy.

Sango groaned and opened her eyes, alerting Kagome to her having awakened. She sat up and said, "What happened to me? I feel like I got stabbed in the back and then went a few rounds with Inuyasha. Wait a moment." She frowned as she grabbed at her throat and looked down at her body. Her eyes then went wide, in seeming surprise and shock. "By Buddha, what happened to me? I look like the Lady Sango!", she said, voice trembling slightly. "I sound like her too!"
Kagome entered the hut from where she'd been standing and walked over to Sango, concerned, and said, "What do you mean, 'I look like Lady Sango'? You are Sango!"
Sango looked up at her with wide eyes and said, "Lady Kagome, let's just say that I believe you now about you swapping bodies with Inuyasha. I am Miroku the monk, not Lady Sango."
Kagome blinked, surprised, and said, "M-Miroku? Is that really you?! How?!"
Sango, or Miroku really, replied, "Yes, it is I. How, I do not know, perhaps the same as with your changes?"

Miroku PoV – First Swap Miroku - Sango
Miroku groaned and opened his eyes to the underside of a thatched roof with holes in it. Dull throbbing pain penetrated his senses from all over his body but a sharper stabbing pain came from his back.
Confused, he sat up with difficulty due to his injuries and said, thinking out loud, "What happened to me? I feel like I got stabbed in the back and then went a few rounds with Inuyasha. Wait a moment." Miroku frowned and grabbed at his throat, as the pitch of his voice had gone up overnight. His eyes went wide as he looked down towards his body and got the shock of his life. His body did not look like his body.
Miroku exclaimed, voice trembling, "By Buddha, what happened to me? I look like the Lady Sango! I sound like her too!" Miroku was stunned, how had this happened? Why did he have the appearance of Lady Sango?
Kagome, having entered the hut, startled Miroku by saying, "What do you mean, 'I look like Lady Sango'? You are Sango!" Miroku was surprised, apparently Kagome thought he was Lady Sango. Maybe he'd swapped bodies with her instead of just somehow ending up looking like her?
Miroku looked up at Kagome with wide eyes and, a thought popping into his mind, said, "Lady Kagome, let's just say that I believe you now about you swapping bodies with Inuyasha. I am Miroku the monk, not Lady Sango."
Kagome blinked in apparent surprise and said, "M-Miroku? Is that really you?! How?!"
Miroku in Sango's body replied, "Yes, it is I. How, I do not know, perhaps the same as with your changes?"

Miroku in Sango's body groped his butt and said, "It's just not the same, when I'm in her body." He looked rather put out about it.
Sango in Miroku's body promptly whacked him in the head with his own staff for his transgression.
"Ow! What was that for?!", said Miroku, looking hurt.
Sango gave him the look of death and replied, "You know what you did, lecher!"
Miroku looked over at Inuyasha for support, but Inuyasha only said, "You pervert! You never learn, do ya?"

Inuyasha was so gonna get Kagome back for sending him to school in her body as her. He was beginning to understand just why he hated this place so badly. If someone so much as flirted with him one more time, he would lose it. He wasn't interested in boys, no matter that he had become trapped in a girl’s body half the time.
Hojo was a total wimp, and Kagome's annoying and nosey friends were, well, nosey and annoying. He hoped that he didn't end up being forced back there again. He'd never understand why Kagome cared so much about going there so often.

"Here."
Kagome startled when a bundle of bright red cloth was abruptly shoved under her nose. She blinked at it for a moment, before her gaze traveled up an extended white-clad arm, across broad shoulders, up to intent grey eyes surrounded by hair so black it nearly blended into the night.
"For... me?" she asked.
A corner of Inuyasha's mouth curved down in a half-scowl. "No, for the rock behind you. Of course you! Who the hell else would I be talking to? "
Too bemused to be offended by his sarcasm, she hesitantly reached up and grasped the suikan he held out to her, noticing as she did his blunted human nails against the fabric. "But," she said tentatively, "won't you be cold?"
He'd already retracted his arm and dropped down to sit on the ground a few feet away from her. He'd just finished building up the fire, which guttered weakly in front of them, already on the verge of going out. It had been raining steadily for most of the day, and though the rain had stopped some hours ago, the ground was still damp. It had taken them ages to find wood that looked dry enough to burn, and even longer to get a flame started. The prospects did not look good for their little campfire, which meant they were in for a long, uncomfortable vigil. The moonless night was dark and chill, and had only just begun.
At her question, Inuyasha merely scoffed. "I'll be fine. Just 'cause I'm human for the night don't mean I'm a complete weakling." His tone was all gruff nonchalance, but the set of his jaw was stiff, and his shoulders looked tense.
Afraid to offend him by refusing it, and much too embarrassed to suggest they share it, Kagome frowned as she slipped the suikan around her shoulders, gripping the edges closed under her chin. "I wasn't suggesting that you were. But even strong humans can get sick in the cold."
"Just shut up and keep it on, will you?" he barked out, sharp and irritated. "The last thing I need tonight is your ass getting sick." His voice trailed off with what sounded like a muttered, "Pathetic woman."
For a moment, she felt a lick of anger, a smarting sort of offense. Her frown deepened, and she opened her mouth to snipe right back—until she noticed the way his eyes kept glancing between her and the quickly-dying fire, between her and its narrowing radius of light, the dark night beginning to hem them in. She saw his jaw clench, watched his hand grip his sword and the minutest movement of his legs as he shifted ever so slightly closer to her.
And she realized all at once that his roughness was not the pompous contempt he pretended it was—it was concern. Deep concern. For her.
He should have been fearing for himself: should have been afraid for his own human body's susceptibility to the elements, worried for his own security against unseen enemies through the long night of his vulnerability.
But perhaps, in his eyes, it was no longer just his night of vulnerability. It was hers, too, and that's what bothered him the most. And for the first time, she began to understand just how deeply her safety mattered to him. How protecting her had gone from a practicality to an instinct, a need.
Just as suddenly as it had come, her anger faded. Closing her lips with a soft sigh, she looked back towards what was left of their campfire. Its smoking embers glowed feebly, and neither she nor Inuyasha made any move to stoke it. She glanced back to the man beside her. He fairly radiated tension, face tight with it, posture utterly rigid as his eyes kept darting between her and their surroundings.
Wordlessly, Kagome scooted across the remaining few feet between them, until her right side was pressed against his left. He startled a little, muscles twitching, but didn't otherwise move. Knowing it was the only comfort she could offer him—wishing she could do more—she slowly leaned her weight against him, resting her head on his shoulder and hooking her elbow through his, her hand sliding down his forearm until it found his larger hand where it rested on his thigh. Not quite brave enough to hold it the way she wanted to, she settled for looping her pinky finger around his. She felt his gaze—warm as a flame—on her face, but she just kept watching the fading embers of the campfire.
When the fire went out and the dark of night rushed over them, she rubbed her cheek against his shoulder and squeezed his arm. A moment later, she felt his finger rub against hers in the barest caress.
They stayed that way until dawn.

Wild
-
The first time Kagome heard him laugh, all she could do was stare.
She rode on his back, knees clamped on either side of his waist, arms looped around his shoulders. His hair streamed out behind him as he ran, tickling her face when it wasn't dwarfing her completely.
It was early morning, the sun still low in the sky as the half-demon leapt through the trees of an expansive forest. They had just spent the better part of two days holed up in an abandoned hut while a storm raged outside. The entire two days, Inuyasha had prowled around the confines of the hut, apparently unable to sit still and wait it out. He'd paced and grumbled and cursed. The few times she'd managed to coax him into sitting down, or stretching out in his usual careless sprawl, he'd tapped his foot, jiggled his legs, strummed his claws against the ground, flicked his ears—some part of his body in constant motion—the whole time scowling at the wall across the room as though the sheer force of his frustration could end the storm.
Kagome had been about ready to strangle him when the storm finally broke early that morning. Inuyasha had taken one sniff of the air, muttered a relieved "Finally!" and wasted no time slinging her onto his back and taking off through the door.
He ran with extra energy and speed that day, his leaps farther and higher than usual. As a result, his landings were few between and a touch on the reckless side, his feet finding purchase on thin branches, steep ledges, and precarious boulders. The whole time Kagome's stomach felt like it had climbed up into her throat. All she could do was grip his shoulders and keep her eyes fixed on the back of his neck.
Then he'd taken a particularly tall leap, up into the branches of a towering tree near the crest of a hill. He'd paused for a moment on one of its highest branches, foot braced against the bark—then with one powerful push of his legs, he'd launched them both into the air, soaring through the sky. Wind tugged at their hair and clothes, creating the feeling of complete weightlessness. At the peak of the jump there came a moment of breathless exhilaration, when Kagome felt like she was simply floating in midair, the world spread out below her like a pastoral painting, beautiful and remote.
But then the inevitable descent began, and she realized what Inuyasha probably hadn't cared to notice: he'd jumped off the highest peak in the vicinity, and there was nothing of equal height to land on. They were going to have to drop nearly straight to the ground.
The realization took a split second, and then they were falling. Kagome's stomach dropped, her heart stuttered in her chest, and burying her face against Inuyasha's neck, she let out a shrill squeak—there was no other word for it—and gripped his shoulders with all her strength, knees squeezing his waist for dear life. He tightened his grip on her legs, and she felt rather than heard his voice, rumbling through his back, reverberating into her body.
They fell with a speed Kagome would remember in her nightmares. Her heart thudded so hard she thought she’d have a heart attack. Their hair whipped around their heads, silver and black mixing in a waving mass, and wind howled in Kagome’s ears. It was all cold slicing wind and the sensation of plummeting, her stomach shriveling with fear, and—
—suddenly the air was punched out of her lungs, Inuyasha’s shoulder slamming right into her diaphragm (when had she slid up so high?); a hard jolt shuddered all the way through her body, and she would have flown forward over Inuyasha’s shoulder if he hadn’t wrapped a strong arm around her waist, keeping her draped over him. They were still in motion, skidding fast down the slope of a hill. A quick succession of images—tree branches, rock-studded dirt, Inuyasha’s feet, the red of his robes—blurred together, disorienting her. She closed her eyes and struggled to inhale. After a few heaving breaths, she was able to get her breathing somewhat back under control.
They finally slid to a halt, Inuyasha’s torso lurching forward, then snapping back from the momentum. Kagome opened her eyes and was met with the sight of Inuyasha’s waist and legs; his feet were planted firmly apart, toes spread wide in the dirt. She tried to lift herself up, bracing her elbows against the line of his shoulder, and turned her head to look at him.
He was smiling, wide and exhilarated. Adrenaline had brought color to his face and a gleaming spark to his eyes. The sight of him had Kagome sucking in a quiet breath. Any irritation she may have felt, any residual fear from the reckless freefall, melted away in a single moment.
Then he closed his eyes, tilted his head back, and let out a whoop of laughter that echoed through the forest.
And Kagome could only stare, her heart fluttering.
She’d never heard him laugh. Not like that.
She’d heard him jeer at enemies. She’d heard him snicker in contempt or dismissal. Sometimes she’d even heard him snigger at her expense when he thought she’d done something stupid. But never a laugh like that. So carefree. Wild. Completely unguarded.
Then he looked at her, still with that broad boyish smile, the hint of a fang poking out from beneath his lip, and said, “Ready to go again?”
She twisted her fingers into the material of his suikan. She opened her mouth to say “Hell no!” but instead heard herself whispering, “Okay.”
She wanted to keep that smile on his face.
He rapidly moved her to her previous position against his back, and then he was off, leaping high into the air.
And though her stomach roiled, and her limbs quivered, she just pressed her face into his neck and smiled, listening to him laugh.

Thoughtless

“Could you be any more useless?”
Kagome couldn’t get it out of her head. His voice raised, harsh, dismissive.
She pressed her face into her raised knees, hugging her legs against her chest. The tree branches above her swayed in the breeze, leaves fluttering against each other. The sound should have been soothing, but she couldn’t hear anything beyond his voice in her head.
“Are you even trying?”
Her breath hitched. Her throat felt tight.
Of course she was trying. She’d been trying since the day she was thrown into the past. Trying to learn to fight, trying to use miko powers she hadn’t even known she had. Trying to befriend a prickly half-demon who wanted nothing to do with her.
“Could you be any more useless?”
Her arms squeezed more tightly around her body. Sighing against her legs, she turned her head to rest her cheek against her knees.
They’d been fighting, of course. And she’d certainly been just as insulting to him, giving back as good as she got. Even egging him on a bit. Part of Kagome knew he probably didn’t mean it, just as she hadn’t meant half the things she’d said. But remembering that sharp edge in his voice, part of her had to wonder…
She sat under the tree, trying to listen to the wind, watching the light slowly fade in the evening sky. She felt wretchedly alone.
There was a quiet rustle behind her. Lifting her head, she glanced to her right—and there he was. Sitting cross-legged beside her, a few feet away.
He wasn’t looking at her. He stared out into the woods around them, taking as much notice of her as he would a pebble on the ground.
She frowned, opened her mouth to say something. But then she stopped. Maybe it was the tenseness around his eyes. Or the grim line of his lips. Or the way his shoulders were a little hunched, as though waiting for some anticipated blow. Or maybe it was the way his ears were turned in her direction. Trained on her.
Closing her mouth, she lowered her head back down to her legs, watching him next to her in the twilit gloom.
A long stretch of silence passed. Kagome kept watching him—his pale hair almost glowing in the dusk—when finally his gaze cut to her, gold glinting in the starlight. She sucked in a breath. Waited.
He kept his eyes on hers, steady and resolute. Too caught to look away, Kagome lifted her head again. Parted her lips. “Inuyasha… I’m…”
She trailed off, unsure how to continue.
A beat passed. And then he nodded at her. Just a short jerk of his chin. She might have thought she’d imagined it if she hadn’t been paying such close attention.
She hesitated for a moment, then nodded back.
He glanced away, back towards the trees. Kagome couldn’t help but notice that the line of his shoulders looked less strained.
He sat there with her in silence, and she no longer felt alone.

Jealous
-
"You smell terrible."
Kagome paused in the middle of her dismount from the edge of the Bone Eater’s Well, and glared at the hanyō standing nearby. "Excuse me?!"
It looked like Inuyasha had been lounging against a nearby tree before she arrived. Now he stood a few paces from its trunk, arms crossed over his chest and a scowl on his face. “You heard me.”
Kagome stepped away from the Well and approached him, clenching the straps of her backpack hard. She frowned and snapped, “What’s gotten into you?”
The hanyō leaned forward, took a loud exaggerated sniff, and growled, “What’s gotten on you? Your time ain’t exactly fragrant, but this downright reeks.”
“I do not reek!”
“You do.”
“Do not!”
“Yeah? And which one of us has the yōkai nose?”
Kagome’s face heated, and an unwelcome twinge of self-consciousness leached away some of her ire. She hadn’t exactly taken the time to bathe before she came back…. resisting the urge to sniff at herself, Kagome opened her mouth, closed it, and finally huffed out in a blustery sigh, “You are completely insufferable sometimes!”
She turned on her heel, heading towards the direction of the village, but stopped when he called out, “And here I thought you went back home for your tests. Tch! Lying bitch.”
Spine going completely rigid, Kagome slowly turned back around. Her blistering glare would’ve sent anyone else scurrying for cover. “What did you say?”
But Inuyasha had never had the good sense to back away from a fight, and had never had any sense when it came to the girl in front of him. “I said,” he repeated slowly, punctuating each word with a step towards her, “That you’re a lying bitch.”
Kagome walked forward to meet him, getting right up in his space and jabbing a finger into his chest. “I don’t know what your problem is, Inuyasha, but let’s make one thing clear.” Reaching up and grabbing a lock of his hair, Kagome tugged on it hard, making him snarl. “I’ve never lied to you! Not ever! What exactly are you suggesting that I do at home, huh? It’s not like I’m running away to goof off! I have serious things to do there too, you know!”
The sneer that lifted his upper lip had her blood boiling. “Sure,” he said, voice dripping in cynicism, “things. That’s why you smell like that.”
She grit her teeth, practically snarling herself. “Like what?!”
He leaned in an inch, and she was suddenly aware of how much taller he was than her, his body practically dwarfing hers. She wouldn’t let herself take a step back, though, and continued glaring up at him, fingers still tight around his hair.
There was no mistaking the animalistic aggression in his tone when he bit out, “Like some bastard has been all over you.”
Kagome frowned, blinked. “Huh?”
Inuyasha lifted his chin, eyes narrowed nearly to slits, and exhaled harshly through his nostrils. “You reek of some… some…” he floundered for a beat, then snarled, “some weakling boy.”
It took Kagome a few seconds to process that. Then realization struck, and before she could really think better of it, she murmured a quiet, “Oh.”
His face tightened, and he stared at her a moment. “Yeah,” he replied, “fucking oh. I’ve been waiting here for days, thinking you were at your school, and instead you were,” he faltered again, and flapped his hands angrily in her direction, “running around with some boy—”
Kagome’s hand released its grip on his hair and dropped down to clutch gently at his sleeve.
“—and it’s not like I fucking care, because I don’t, but if you’re leaving just to spend time with that,” he bit off the next word, growled low, “then you damn well should’ve had the decency to say so—”
Kagome stepped a little closer into his space. He didn’t seem to notice.
“—and I’ll tell you right now, Kagome, I ain’t gonna tolerate you running home just for him, got it? Your responsibilities here matter more than that little—”
“Inuyasha.”
Her voice was calm and quiet—no trace of anger or frustration—and that more than anything made the hanyō pause, eyes still narrowed on her face. When her lips started to twitch up at the corners, he growled, “Oi, you think this is funny? Hell, Kagome, if you think for a second that I’m just gonna let—”
Her hand tugged on his sleeve. “Inuyasha,” she repeated.
His mouth twisted, and he barked, “What?!”
“You have nothing to worry about. The person you’re smelling is just a classmate.”
Inuyasha’s lip curled ever so slightly, features still tense. “A classmate?” he repeated, an echo of that cynical timbre returning to his voice. “That sure as hell doesn’t explain why his scent is all over you.”
Seemingly unaware of the movement, his hand reached over and gripped her forearm where she was clutching at his sleeve. As he spoke, it slowly skimmed down her arm to lightly circle her wrist, his thumb resting against the heel of her palm.
Warmth suffused her stomach at the touch. She tilted her head, her gaze steady on his. “You know my grandpa’s been making up excuses for me at school, right? Everyone there thinks I’ve been sick. Like, really sick.” She sighed with mild chagrin, thinking of the ludicrous illnesses her grandfather had been coming up with. Then shaking her head, she continued, “When Hōjō saw me after class, he was just glad to see me doing all right. He gave me a hug. That’s all.”
Inuyasha’s eyes were still narrowed, but the longer he looked at her—her expression so open and calm—the tension began easing from his posture, his shoulders relaxing. Finally he snorted, nose wrinkling. “A hug, huh?” When she nodded, he grumbled without much heat, “Must’ve been one long-ass hug, then.”
Kagome felt her cheeks heat again, and her smile was somewhat embarrassed. “Um, yeah. It, uh, it was pretty awkward. Hōjō isn’t the best at picking up social cues.”
At the hint of discomfort in her tone, Inuyasha paused, watching her. Whatever he saw, it seemed to reassure him, because his face lost all its stiffness and the scowl cleared away. But he was frowning slightly when he said, “Oi. If you didn’t like it, you should’ve just stopped him.”
Kagome shrugged. “I didn’t want to hurt his feelings. Not all of us enjoy being rude, you know?”
Inuyasha’s hand tugged gently on her wrist, drawing her closer. “If you don’t want someone touching you, just say so. Ain’t nothing wrong with that.” He brought up his free hand and flexed his fingers slightly, showing off his claws. “Or I can do it for you, if you want. Just point me at the bastard.”
Kagome bit her lip to keep from smiling at the gruff sincerity of the offer. “Hm, I’ll let you know if I need you.”
They stared at each other for a moment. Then Kagome slid her wrist from his grasp, only to replace it with her hand. She threaded her fingers through his, pressing their palms tightly together. At his bemused—and vaguely flushed—look, she smiled and said, “Let’s go.”
She pulled him by the hand towards the village, delighting in the feeling of his fingers curling around hers.

Kind
-
"You know, if you're not careful, your face will freeze that way."
Inuyasha's menacing glower turned Kagome’s direction, followed quickly by a snarled, "The fuck are you talking about?"
Teeth gritted, eyes narrowed and furious, ears laid flat against his head, he looked on the verge of exploding. Kagome sighed. "Never mind."
With a muttered "Tch," the hanyō returned his attention to cleaning his sword, which was proving to be an exercise in futility. Thick, viscous yōkai innards of an indeterminable brown color—blood? bile? mucus? some form of stomach acid? it was impossible to tell exactly what that gunk was—coated Tetsusaiga from point to hilt. Inuyasha had spent a good ten minutes trying to clean it off, but had only managed to spread it around, smearing long sticky streaks along his hands and the sleeves of his suikan.
The consistency of the stuff reminded Kagome of superglue, which didn't bode well for Inuyasha's efforts. She wasn't going to tell him that, though.
Sighing again, she seated herself on the ground and watched him try to remove the slime from his sword by wiping it on the grass, scraping it against the bark of nearby trees, and even swinging it through the air with all his might, as though sheer brute force would propel the mess off.
"Was that stinking eel made of slime? Dammit!" Inuyasha slammed Tetsusaiga point-down into the ground and dropped to a crouch next to it. She could see a muscle in his jaw working even from where she sat.
Poor guy. It had been a rough day. They were two weeks into a shard-hunting expedition, and they hadn't found a single shard—or even the rumor of one—until that morning, when Kagome had faintly sensed the Shikon's power, like the minutest flutter in the back of her mind. But faint as it was, she'd struggled to pinpoint where it was coming from. They'd had several false starts, spending hours traveling in a direction only for Kagome to realize it wasn't quite the right way, or that they’d somehow veered off course. By that afternoon, even Kagome's frustration was getting to her. She could only imagine how Inuyasha felt doing all the leg work. He surprised her, though, and didn't say a word about it; he just silently went wherever Kagome directed him to go.
After half the day running near-aimlessly around the countryside, they'd finally hit on the right direction. The pull of the shard grew stronger and stronger, eventually leading them to sprawling swamplands swarmed by biting flies, littered with stagnant pools of water, and dotted with more than one human corpse in various stages of decay.
And the smell. Like sulfur and the mineral tang of mud mixed with rotting flesh. Inuyasha had looked downright queasy, covering his nose with his sleeve and grimly muttering, "Let's get this over with quick."
Kagome tracked the shard through the mire, shoes slipping and sliding in the sludge; she did her best to steer them around the stagnant pools whenever possible, but they'd both been forced to wade through muck up to their knees when they ran out of solid ground to walk on. The trail of the Shikon's power led them deep into the swamp, and finally ended at the largest pool of standing water theyd yet seen, the size of a small lake. The pull of the shard was coming from its center.
Kagome had only just lifted her arm to point towards the lake when a giant plume of water shot up from its depths. In the midst of that plume reared the massive, sinuous brown body of an eel. Kagome immediately saw the glow of the Shikon shard lodged in its jaw, buried behind rows of sharp teeth as long as her forearm.
Inuyasha hadn't waited for it to make a second move: he launched himself forward, Tetsusaiga raised with both arms, a hoarse shout ripping from his throat.
Under normal circumstances, Kagome doubted the eel would have presented much of a challenge; it was about the size of Mistress Centipede, an enemy Inuyasha had torn apart with nothing but his claws. But this yōkai had a distinct advantage over them: they weren't on solid ground. Inuyasha wasn't able to get traction in the swampy mud, which meant his jumps weren't as high, his landings sloppy, and his movements slower.
Which is probably why the yōkai was able to land a glancing blow on Kagome. The eel darted forward, jaws wide and ready to snap down on flesh; Inuyasha jumped out of its path, but quick as a flash it changed course, veering at an angle towards Kagome, where she’d been standing with bow at the ready. With a shriek, she leapt aside as quickly as she could, but one of those long teeth caught her arm, dragging up from her elbow all the way to her shoulder.
She’d barely registered the stinging, burning sensation in her arm when she heard Inuyasha’s ragged bellow.
“Stay the fuck away from her, you piece of shit!”
She didn’t see him move, but she heard his wordless yell; saw a spear of sunlight glint off Tetsusaiga’s blade as it arched down; felt the spray of water on her face as the eel violently writhed, Tetsusaiga imbedded into the flesh below its head.
Even injured, the yōkai’s body—pure sinuous muscle—flailed with such ferocity that it threw Inuyasha off his feet. He was able to hold onto Tetsusaiga’s hilt, dragging the sword with him as he was hurled into the ground. The eel reared and darted towards him.
“No!” Kagome roared, already standing and drawing her bow. Ignoring the burning in her arm, she drew an arrow back and released. It lodged deep into the eel’s left eye, her spiritual power flaring as the arrow hit, burning half its face.
Half-blinded and almost certainly mortally wounded, Kagome thought it was nearly over. But she’d forgotten: cornered animals are at their most dangerous when they’re most desperate. The eel’s tail lashed out from the water and shot forward with terrifying speed. Kagome tried to dodge, but wasn’t fast enough: its tail caught the edge of her uninjured shoulder and sent her flying through the air. She landed on her side in the muck, skidding a few yards before the boggy ground stopped her momentum.
Dimly, through the throbbing pain she now felt pulsing through her muscles, Kagome found herself grateful for the water-saturated quagmire. If she’d landed on solid ground, she’d probably have some broken bones right about now.
“Kagome!!”
She lifted her head a few inches, cracking her eyes open.
In the time it had taken her to hit the ground, Inuyasha had put himself between her and the yōkai. Half-turned towards her, he had Tetsusaiga pointed at the eel while he looked at her over his shoulder.
His expression was downright murderous.
“You okay?” he rasped through the snarl twisting his features.
When she gave a brief nod, he turned his full attention back to the eel. “What did I say about getting near her?” The lethal calm with which he asked the question nearly had a shiver going down Kagome’s spine.
Inuyasha raised Tetsusaiga—then planted it point-first into the ground next to him. Lifting both his hands, he flexed his fingers, knuckles cracking. “For you, motherfucker? I’m gonna use my hands.”
Then he was leaping forward with a low, guttural shout. Claws connected with flesh, biting deep. He sliced clean through the yōkai’s body, at the same spot he’d injured earlier. Blood sprayed into the air.
The length of the eel’s body slumped into the lake with a tremendous splash, slithering down under the foam, disappearing from view. The head fell in the other direction, towards the boggy shore. It landed in a clump of springy weeds, rolling for a few feet before coming to a halt in a patch of mud.
Inuyasha stood in swamp water up to his waist, looking at his blood-stained hand with a wrinkled nose and an almost pouting expression, as though already wondering how long it would take to get rid of the smell. Seeing it, Kagome couldn’t help the (admittedly pained) giggle that broke from her lips as she sat upright.
Inuyasha’s gaze went straight to her, and the rest of him quickly followed. He dropped to a crouch next to her, eyes skimming her body for injury. “You okay, Kagome?”
She took a moment to assess. She patted her abdomen, around her ribs; she slowly moved her hands and feet, arms and legs; she rolled her shoulders, especially the one that had been hit. Her muscles were definitely twinging, and the cut on her arm still stung, but... “I think I’m mostly okay. I’m just going to be really sore tomorrow.” She winced as she stretched her shoulder. “And probably bruised.”
Inuyasha’s eyes landed on her cut arm. He scowled. “We need to clean that up.” Vigorously rubbing his hands in the patchy swamp grass—wiping off as much of the eel blood as he could—he then slipped his arms beneath Kagome’s knees and around her shoulders, hefting her up against his chest. Pausing to scan the area around them, he mumbled, “Where’s your damn backpack?”
“Uh,” Kagome swiveled her head around, then pointed over Inuyasha’s shoulder. “There! I put it down when we reached the lake.”
Inuyasha started moving in that direction, but Kagome smacked the back of her hand lightly against his chest and said, “Hey, wait!”
Glaring at her, Inuyasha kept moving. “No. That cut could get infected. We need to take care of it now.”
“But—”
“Now wench, now.”
She sighed, her breath ruffling the ends of her bangs. “Okay, so you don’t want to collect the jewel shard, then?”
He stilled. Then he glanced over at the yōkai’s head where it lay in the mud; glanced back at her, the oblique set of his brows almost calculating. Releasing a loud, annoyed exhale, he turned back towards the eel’s head.
Kagome grinned up at him. “I can’t believe you almost forgot the shard.”
“Shut it.”
“Aww, don’t be embarrassed! It’s sweet that you were so worried about me.”
Color suffused the skin along the bridge of his nose. “Keh! I just need you in working order. You’re useless to me otherwise.”
“Of course,” she agreed, nodding solemnly. “I believe you, Inuyasha.”
He mumbled some curse word or other under his breath. When they reached the decapitated yōkai head, he gently set Kagome on her feet. She kneeled down, felt for the shard with her power, then pointed at a spot behind the eel’s gaping jaw. “It’s in there. Could you…?”
Inuyasha used one of his claws to slice open the flesh behind the rows of teeth. Then Kagome—visibly shuddering and chanting “ew, ew, ew!” to herself—probed with her fingers until she found the shard. She pulled it out, holding it up for Inuyasha to see. “We did it!”
“Uh-huh, great.” He scooped her up into his arms and leapt over to where her backpack lay on the ground. “Now we clean this.”
He sat her down on a large rock, then slid his hand under her elbow, lifting her injured arm up for closer inspection. “You got lucky,” he said, a slight growl underpinning the words, clearly still bothered that it had happened at all. “It’s not very deep. Won’t need stitches.” He considered her arm for a moment longer, then said, “Right, first thing’s first.” With his free hand, he used his claws to cut her sleeve off at the shoulder.
“Hey!” she cried as he pulled the shorn sleeve carefully down her arm and off her wrist. “These uniforms aren’t cheap, you know! I’m going to have to replace this.”
“It was ripped anyway.”
She pursed her lips, a sullen slant to her mouth. “I could’ve mended it.”
“Tough shit,” he said. “It’ll be in my way, and you don’t need loose threads getting stuck in the wound.”
She couldn’t exactly fault his logic, but she pouted anyway, fingering the sleeve now laying in her lap. Inuyasha bent over to rummage through her backpack. He pulled out the things he remembered seeing Kagome use before—cotton dressings, antiseptic spray, alcohol wipes, gauze. He picked up the package of alcohol wipes, sniffed at it, then made a face. Still, he took out a wipe and began cleaning his hands with it, even taking the time to get under his claws.
Kagome watched him, completely fascinated.
Tossing the used wipe into her backpack, he uncapped the antiseptic spray and held it up to her arm. “Ready?”
Biting her lip, Kagome nodded.
He sprayed the length of her arm, thoroughly coating the cut and the surrounding skin. She tensed up, and released a soft hissing breath. He frowned and mumbled, “Sorry.”
“Don’t be,” she replied. “Just stings.”
He used a piece of cotton dressing to wipe off the skin around her cut. His hands were so gentle, his fingers exerting a barely-there pressure around her elbow. Each swipe of the cotton was slow and almost cautious.
And the look on his face — Kagome couldn’t tear her eyes away. He was so intent, so focused, and yet there was a quiet, almost serene quality to his attention. She wondered if she’d ever seen him look so absorbed before. Certainly never so absorbed by her, anyway.
Kagome blushed a little at the thought.
Finally, Inuyasha had the wound cleaned to his satisfaction. Selecting two more strips of clean cotton dressing, he placed them carefully along the length of her arm, over the top of the cut. Then, unwinding the roll of gauze, he began wrapping her arm.
When he’d finished, he appraised his work by running a hand along the bandaged portion of her arm.
It shouldn’t have felt like a caress, Kagome thought, and yet…
Face heating up, Kagome coughed. Startled out of his concentration, Inuyasha shot her a swift glance. Noting the pink in her cheeks, and the way she kept looking at his hand where it still gripped her elbow, Inuyasha flushed. Abruptly dropping her arm, he took a big step back and shoved his hands into his sleeves.
“T-there. Don’t have to worry about your pathetic human body getting infected now.”
She couldn’t help but smile at his flustered frown, the way his ears kept twitching atop his head. “Thank you, Inuyasha,” she murmured, resting her hand on her bandaged arm.
He flicked an ear back at her. She didn’t expect him to respond, so was surprised when she heard a quiet “You’re welcome” drift over to her.
It was, Kagome thought, a wonderful moment.
Until Inuyasha glanced over to where he’d left Tetsusaiga impaled in the ground. And finally registered the thick layer of slime oozing down its blade.
It had pretty much gone downhill from there.
Leave it to a swamp demon to totally ruin a good moment.
Now safely on the outskirts of the swamp—Inuyasha hadn’t wanted to stay there a moment longer, not even to clean Tetsusaiga—the hanyō was glaring at his slimed sword as though it was flipping him the middle finger. His glower was beginning to take on a suspiciously sulky edge.
Poor guy. Sighing and casting her gaze to the side, she noticed her backpack sitting beside her. She blinked. Wait…
“Inuyasha,” Kagome called.
He was still glowering at his sword, jaw tightly clenched.
“Inuyasha,” she said again, injecting the word with a cheery lilt to get his attention.
He shifted his glare to her. “Not now, woman.”
“But—”
“Can’t you see I’m busy?”
“Doing what?”
“Thinkin’!”
“Hm,” she intoned, “so you don’t want help cleaning off Tetsusaiga, then?”
“What the hell are you—” His invective was cut off when Kagome tossed him the package of alcohol wipes.
He caught it easily, eyebrows lifting as he stared at it. “What…”
“The alcohol in the wipes should help break up that sticky stuff. Theoretically, anyway.” When he looked at her, she shrugged. “It’s gotta be better than scraping it against a tree, right?”
Inuyasha hesitated, glanced at his sword. Without looking at her, he took out a wipe and began rubbing it against the side of the blade. After several long moments, he pulled it away to reveal a small clean patch of steel.
Kagome beamed.
“Erm,” Inuyasha mumbled, darting a quick look her way. He applied the alcohol wipe to the blade again, rubbing away at the slime. Without looking at her, he said quietly, “Thanks.”
“You’re welcome, Inuyasha.”

Loyal

He stood at the door of Kaede’s hut, his head bowed.
“I’m sorry.”
He aimed his voice over his shoulder. To her, where she sat inside by the hearthfire. Her heart wrenched in her chest at the defeated ache in his voice.
“I know,” she whispered.
He lingered there a moment longer, clawed hand gripping the doorframe tightly. “Kagome, I… I’m…”
“I know,” she said again. “Go. You should see her.”
His knuckles turned white against the wood, but he nodded.
Taking a step out past the door, he halted long enough to say, “I’ll be back, Kagome. Just… trust me, all right?” Then he was gone.
She knew. And she waited for him.

Gentle
-
Kagome woke with a frightened gasp, disoriented in the dark. Panting, she stared up at the starry sky and tried to reacclimate to reality.
“Oi.”
Jerking up to her elbow, she looked across the glowing embers of their earlier campfire and saw Inuyasha sitting there, holding his sheathed sword in the crook of his elbow, watching her with a frown.
“Inuyasha,” she whispered. “You startled me.”
“You were lookin’ pretty startled already. Smelled it, too.”
“Oh,” she replied, plopping back down onto her sleeping bag. She took a deep breath to settle her heart rate. “Yeah. I had a nightmare.”
She heard him shifting around. “About what?”
“Oh, um…” She took another, smaller breath and closed her eyes. “Nothing really important.”
A beat of silence. More shifting, the soft rustle of cloth. Then his voice, much closer. “Tell me,” he said.
She opened her eyes and saw him above her. He’d moved to sit right next to her, his thigh almost brushing the crown of her head. She could see his face so clearly now, the soft play of firelight warming his features. And he was looking down at her with concern, eyes nearly gilt in the dim light.
There could be no resistance to that look. “I dreamed,” she said slowly, “that I was stuck somewhere dark. Enclosed. And I was… alone.” She curled onto her side, drawing her knees up to her chest. “I couldn’t get out. I called for help, but nobody could hear me. Nobody came. I was just…”
She swallowed thickly and tried again. “I was just alone in the dark.”
She waited, listening to the soft snap of the dying embers.
Then she felt fingers slide into her hair, combing gently through the strands.
“It won’t happen,” rumbled his voice above her, his fingers weaving through her hair again and again. “You’re safe, Kagome. I promise.”
Taking another deep breath, she closed her eyes and leaned her head back into his touch. “Say… say it again.”
His fingers paused in her hair. Moved to graze along her cheek, down to her jaw, until he had her face cradled in his hand.
“You’re safe with me, Kagome,” he said. “I’ll protect you. I’m not going anywhere.”
It was like he’d taken something heavy off the very center of her chest. She could breathe again.
She placed her hand over his, smiled for him. “I know. And I’ll protect you too, okay?”
His mouth tugged up in answer. He ran his thumb across her lip, tracing her smile. “I know,” he said.

Time to begin the Sesshomaru analysis/ramble 😂
Okay, so, this is going to include the original anime (since that’s what I know best) as this post is going to include Sesshomaru’s relationships to the Inugang and his own group. Be wary; it’s gets super long, and it would have been longer if the weather didn’t make me feel nauseated.
Ready? Let’s go.
We’re going to start with his mother, Inukimi. What we’ve seen of her she’s aloof, distant, and overall indifferent to those around her. She cares for her son, but avoids getting too involved with him and prefers to let him do his own thing.
She doesn’t care much about humans either, mainly seeing them as a food source, and we are uncertain as to whether she loved Inu no Taisho or if it were simply an arranged marriage. What we do know, is that Inu no Taisho wandered away from her and fell for a human woman, Izayoi, and became much more sympathetic towards humanity than ever before.
This caused him to surrender his fangs to create tenseiga and testusaiga, two blades that were originally one, to protect both Izayoi and humanity as a whole. Now, Sesshomaru loved his father- envied him, idolized him- and wanted to one day surpass him. But then Inu no Taisho died, sacrificing his life to save not only Izayoi, but their half-demon child- Inuyasha.
Tumblr media
It’s safe to say that Sesshomaru didn’t particularly like humans before this happened, looking at his parents and the way he was raised, as even his father didn’t care about them until he met Izayoi. But after his father died to save one, whatever indifference he had turned to sheer hatred. Along with that hatred came an absolute loathing towards Inuyasha, the half-demon child that he believed caused his demise.
He did nothing to help Inuyasha as the child struggled to survive, and based on their interactions in the series it’s safe to assume that he only made it harder for him. When Sesshomaru discovered that his father left tenseiga, a sword of healing and compassion, for him rather than the tetsusaiga… a sword that was meant to protect and slay their foes, he became even more furious.
He despised Inuyasha, despised that he caused their father’s demise, and despised that he seemed to be the favored son despite not even knowing what their father looked like. It especially infuriated him when said “favored” son fell under a priestess’ spell and got pinned to a tree for fifty years.
To him, Inuyasha was undeserving, he was weak, half human, foolish, and naive. He’s never done anything of worth in Sesshomaru’s eyes.
If we go by the panther demons episode (which admittedly is anime only) then he only further spurred on the hate from his brother, for if Inuyasha had been able to help in the war instead of being pinned to a tree, Sesshomaru might have actually hated him less and would have respected him just a little bit as a son of their father for coming to the western land’s defense.
But he didn’t and he was, so Sesshomaru looked for a way to obtain tetsusaiga, and that… was when he met Jaken.
Jaken was the leader of a demon imp tribe, and would have been eaten alive had Sesshomaru not appeared. He gave not just one warning, but two for the attacking demon to get out of his way, and killed it for not listening to him.
Tumblr media
Jaken fell in love with Sesshomaru then and there, awed by his beauty and strength, and left everything behind to follow Sesshomaru as a loyal servant. Sesshomaru allowed this, giving him a chance to prove his worth by bestowing upon him the Staff of Two Heads.
And, by learning to use it, Jaken had proved his worth. Yet he still irritated Sesshomaru to no end, constantly being beaten or threatened, but not once did Sesshomaru follow through on his threats to kill Jaken if he failed to shut up or or if his plans failed.
Jaken is the mastermind, a fanboy, and a faithful servant.
But Sesshomaru despises manipulation tactics and plans that involve deceit, and has stated before that they’re “beneath him”. He prefers to tackle thing head on, doing whatever suits his fancy at the time. If something piques his interest, he’ll immediately stop what he’s doing and go do whatever it was that interested him.
Sesshomaru uses his brute strength and incredible speed to solve his problems, yet when push comes to shove he will reluctantly allow Jaken to come up with a solution.
Such as when they first appeared, riding atop a giant ogre and using the “Un-mother” demon to trick Inuyasha to tell them where the black pearl resided. But as soon as the demon fulfilled her purpose, he killed her and ripped the black pearl right out of his brother’s eye.
Since then, we have not seen Sesshomaru use another of Jaken’s plans, as he no longer had need of them, but he still kept Jaken around. Interesting, no?
This is because, first and foremost, despite all the horrible things he’s done, Sesshomaru is loyal. Jaken is an annoying little imp, one who never stops talking and getting on his master’s nerves, but Sesshomaru doesn’t kill him. He goes so far as to revive him when he was slain by Kaijimbo, and constantly protects him from danger.
Sesshomaru shows loyalty to those who are loyal to him. Even if they don’t have a purpose or use, if they are part of his inner-circle he won’t allow anything to happen to them. He is too proud to do so, even if he would never admit it to himself or say it aloud. It’s why he became so hellbent on destroying Naraku after he gave him a faulty arm and started to burn his flesh in an attempt to get him to return the jewel shard embedded in it.
He betrayed that loyalty, and Sesshomaru is a petty bitch that won’t stop until he gets even because this man can hold a grudge.
Tumblr media
Now onto his adopted daughter.
Rin was a six, maybe eight year old girl who became a traumatized mute after she watched bandits murder her parents and brothers. Shortly after, the villagers that took her in began to abuse her- beating her constantly.
She had no friends, no adults she could rely on- until she found Sesshomaru wounded in the forest nearby.
Tumblr media
He refused any of her attempts to help him, even trying to scare her away, but a scared little girl who lost everything at once and no longer had anything at all did everything she could do so that she wouldn’t have to see another person die.
She wanted to save him, in the way she couldn’t save her family, even if meant suffering more beatings from the villagers.
Stuck in the forest due to his injuries, Sesshomaru could not move. He could only watch as this pathetic human child tried to nurse him back to health, pushing past her fears to “save” him. Yet Sesshomaru became curious-
This little girl who tried to feed him time and again- just where did she get those bruises? They were clearly inflicted upon her by someone else. He didn’t care in the least- it was just strange. Yet his question was the most concern the girl had witnessed or been privy to since her family’s death, and she was so happy to hear it, even though she did not have the voice to answer him.
He was the only adult that seemed to care at all about her existence. He was the only one that she thought would come to her rescue after the wolves attacked. A lonely, broken child whose only hope was a stranger. Not only that, but a demon.
Sesshomaru was so close to just letting her stay dead, but something inside of him- something so small and barely there it was practically nonexistent- had just enough of a reaction to her death that tenseiga pulsed, compelling him to revive her.
He brought her new clothes and allowed her to travel with him, despite how little she could offer in exchange. She showed him loyalty when she tried to help him, and now he had taken it upon himself to guard and protect her for as long she decided to remain with them. Even if he did not know it himself, he became a father figure towards her, and Jaken her irritable nanny.
Her Hogosha, as stated by the original author, Rumiko Takahashi, herself.
And then there was Kohaku, a boy who had been possessed and made to slay his entire family and comrades, barely snapping out of it in time to spare his sister. He was killed, then revived via a jewel shard in his neck, and had been possessed/forced to work for Naraku since.
He had been ordered to kill Rin after she had been kidnapped, and he was about to be killed by Sesshomaru as a result. This was their first meeting, and it very well could have been their last. The demon lord had his hand wrapped around the boy’s throat ready to strangle and/or decapitate him.
Tumblr media
But he didn’t.
He saw the lifelessness in his eyes- the emptiness- and knew Kohaku was not himself. To the him at the start of the series, he would have killed him regardless, but this Sesshomaru let him go free. He spared the child.
He spared Kohaku.
Even when Byakuya tried to steal his shard and end his life, Sesshomaru appeared to save him. When Magatsuhi captured Kohaku, Sesshomaru risked his own safety and got stabbed through the shoulder trying to rescue him. In the underworld when he got blown away, Sesshomaru pulled the boy back to safety.
Even after what he nearly did to Rin, he was allowed to travel with them. He was protected by them. Sesshomaru took him under his wing the same way he did Rin, keeping them safe from Naraku’s grasp.
Sesshomaru, despite claiming to hate humanity, has taken it upon himself to protect two traumatized and orphaned children. He saves them, again and again, unconditionally, not expecting anything in return, save for their loyalty and trust.
And then… there are the others. The ones outside of his circle.
Sesshomaru is a lot more like Inuyasha than he will ever admit. Though Sesshomaru is more quiet and Inuyasha is more loud, both have tempers that are easy to light up, and both prefer to face things head on rather than by going around them.
Both brothers also tend to avoid admitting or acknowledging they care about their companions- Sesshomaru because he is too proud, and Inuyasha because he’s not used to being able to rely on others.
Tumblr media
They despise each other- Sessshomaru to Inuyasha for having “caused” their father’s death, and Sesshomaru for having only made Inuyasha’s life harder and for constantly trying to kill him in the past.
Yet both go out of their way to help the other, if only for the reason that no one else is allowed to defeat the other.
When Inuyasha transformed and went on a rampage, Sesshomaru appeared to wear him down so Kagome could reverse the transformation. This becomes a theme of sorts, as it happens several times in the series, and in the last season Sesshomaru even protects Kagome from the possessed Inuyasha.
Sesshomaru protects Kagome several times, actually, but the most notable time is when she was kidnapped and drugged by Mukotsu. Mukotsu was intent on raping and marrying her, and when she refused he tried to strangle her. Sesshomaru arrived just in time to kill him, melting him with his poison claw, effectively saving Kagome from being traumatized/killed.
(He also delivered the sassiest line which I just LOVE but like that’s not why you’re here, lol)
Sesshomaru saved her, knowing what was happening, knowing she was important to Inuyasha. The half-brother he hated. And he continued to do so, again and again, for all of his friends, even though Sesshomaru could care less about them.
Because, even if he would never admit it, the tiniest part of him- the part that had convinced him to take in a child and raise her, to spare the boy who had been possessed by his greatest foe- cared.
And when Shippo, a fox child who had lost his parents at a young age, ran to Sesshomaru crying, begging and pleading, for him to revive Kanta’s father… he did so. He brandished tenseiga and brought the badger demon back to life, reuniting father and son.
Sesshomaru has grown greatly from his first appearance, his icy heart melting bit by bit from each encounter and rescue, and has gradually become a protector of children. Every time tenseiga had been used after Jaken, it had been for the benefit of a child.
Rin, Kanta and Shippo…
Sesshomaru even considered using it on Kohaku for when he died, but because his life had been prolonged by the jewel shard in his neck that was revealed as not possible. And the one time he wanted to use the tenseiga to save someone… he couldn’t.
Tumblr media
Kagura had challenged him, insulted him, and he had refused nearly every offer she had. But her impression and presence was a strong one, and he took her last bit of advice on how to get to the underworld, traveling through the front gates.
He knew that all she ever wanted was to escape Naraku’s cruel grasp, that she was willing to use him to do it. That she wanted him to free her, even though he only wanted to kill Naraku for himself.
But it was her death that Sesshomaru felt the most. That he regretted the most. He caught her scent, her scent that was identical to Naraku’s yet knew it was hers, and followed it right to the field of flowers where she died.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Sesshomaru wanted to save her, but the miasma had torn away at her so much that it was impossible for tenseiga to revive her. It was from her death that Sesshomaru truly learned compassion and grief, and that allowed him to begin mastering tenseiga.
Tenseiga who was finally able to become a weapon. Tenseiga that brought him to his mother’s castle, and caused Rin to get swallowed up into the underworld. There, he learned something. He learned the truth of himself.
Sesshomaru was not a god. He was not all powerful. Life is a fragile, pretty thing that can be snuffed out as easily as a candle’s flame. Tenseiga can only revive a person once, and he had foolishly allowed the life of his daughter to be taken.
And the finality of that, of that pain he was now experiencing, was the final act tenseiga needed in order to teach Sesshomaru what it meant to care for someone. To use tenseiga’s full power- saving a hundred souls at once. This is why he became more reckless, more protective, over his companions.
Why he let himself get wounded trying to save Kohaku, why he was ready to attack Sango when she was goaded on by one of Naraku’s illusions to attack Rin. Sesshomaru knew the value life held now, and he wasn’t going to take it for granted anymore.
But that didn’t mean he wasn’t going to be extremely pissed after learning that after mastering tenseiga he was meant to break it against tetsusaiga so that the blades could be one again. Which, once more, made Sesshomaru feel jilted and betrayed by his father, as Inuyasha still seemed to be the favored son.
So he attacked Inuyasha. If he was going to break his sword, it would be best for Inuyasha to earn it rather than it just being handed to him. When Inuyasha was finally able to prove himself worthy of it, Sesshomaru actually willingly broke the sword and let the meido zangetsuha transfer to tetsusaiga.
And when Moryomaru insulted Kagura? Saying her death was in vain? Sesshomaru’s tokijin snapped in half in his anger, the demon lord declaring that only he could decide if her death was in vain or not.
His newfound compassion, his anger, his growth- this was what he needed. This is how he was finally able to surpass his father. It was through this rage and determination, that he was able to regrow his left arm and claim bakusaiga, a sword made from his own power, and is why he was able to take down Magatsuhi and Naraku.
Sesshomaru was a Grade A monster at the beginning, but through the connections, through the children he took care of, he was able to grow. To learn compassion and true strength, and finally surpass his father. He and Inuyasha have grown not to really accept each other or get along at all, but to acknowledge each other’s strength and existence.
They still don’t like each other, but they’re no longer at each other’s throats anymore. Sesshomaru leaves Rin, his daughter, in the village to reacquaint her with humans, and drops by to ensure she’s doing alright.
He protects Sango’s house and her kids during the Root Head incident. (Which is a scene actually written by Rumiko in a charity manga thing) He is a guardian of children, who protects unconditionally.
(This was going to include the third movie simply because it would make the nasty shippers angry and also because it’s my fav movie because Sesshomaru and Inupapa, but this post is so long already so I’m ending it here, lol. Also yes I know the movies aren’t canon I just enjoy them)

InuKag Week: Day 4
Day 4: Hands
@inukag-week
Kagome stared down her youngest son, thoroughly irritated with his behavior and not impressed with his ability to stare her down right back. At four, he was barely up to her waist, but had enough attitude in him to not even cower at his mother’s glare.
“Hand it over.” She commanded the small child before her.
He spoke his favorite word. “No.”
“This isn’t up for debate, young man. Hand it over now.”
He shifted his feet a little and whatever was in his clutches made a terrifying squelching noise. Kagome internally winced and knew that whatever it was, it probably wasn’t going to be intact anymore.
“No.” Kagome frowned upon realizing he was going to stand his ground, come hell or high water. She could blame her husband for this trait, but she knew it also came from her.
Or so he claimed.
Crouching down to his level, Kagome got eye to eye with her boy. His eyes were the same color as his father’s and his dark black hair glistened in the sunlight. “Kenji. Hand it over to Mama now, please.”
“I have plans.”
“What kind of plans?” Kagome’s hand extended out expectantly. The command went unspoken this time.
Kenji shook his head violently, his soft, not quite all the way stiffen dog ears waggling. If she were so frustrated, Kagome would have picked him up and kissed him between them over how cute it all was.
Why did Inuyasha have to make such cute babies? It made it hard to discipline them.
“Boy plans.”
Kagome’s eyebrow shot clean up into her bangs. What did that even mean? “Well,” she asked, “Mama can know about boy plans.”
“No.”
That dang word all over again. Who allowed her children to learn that word?
“Well, can Papa know?” Inuyasha appeared behind their youngest boy, peering down at the top of both of their heads.
“No.”
“What, I thought it was a boy plan?”
“No.”
“No it’s not a boy plan?”
Inuyasha had learned in his many years as a father how to navigate the difficult questions that are brought about by children. Something his younger self wasn’t even remotely good at.
Before he could continue his interrogation of his littlest boy, the oldest boy, Shuichi, walked by, drawing the four-year old’s attention squarely on him. Before either of the parental units could react, Kenji, with all the force of his small arms, whipped whatever was in his hands directly at his oldest brother, nailing him in the side of the face.
Unfortunately, for all parties involved, Shuichi was carrying his two-year-old sister who was also impacted by the blast.
The squelch of the rotten peach, and the sound of maggots wiggling across cloth nearly made Kagome puke on the spot, but the sheer look of horror on Shuichi’s face as he turned to see who had impaled him with the offending fruit stopped her.
Well, that and the ear-piercing shriek of Suzume loosing it over the whole experience.
Kagome remembered Sango once telling her that the reason toddlers overreacted to everything is because everything is the worst thing that has happened to them so far. But in this instance, she had to agree with Suzume that this was a full-blown mental breakdown level offense to her sensibilities.
Kenji was quick to apologize, running over to his siblings, trying to soothe things over before his parents got involved – clearly forgetting that his parents had witnessed the whole thing.
“Kenji, why?” Shuichi cried out, trying to wipe the maggots and peach remnants off of his sister and himself as best as he could. “Where did you even find that thing?!”
“I’m sorry!” Kenji was now also having a mental breakdown, sobbing and crying just as uncontrollably as his little sister. “I’m sorry!”
Shuichi lifted his head up to the sky, and released a loud sigh. Kagome wasn’t expecting to see her oldest look so much like his father in that moment, but she supposed he had watched Inuyasha do the same thing for years. “Kenji, what possessed you to do that?”
“You didn’t spend the day with me! I was mad!” Kenji’s feet stomped, emphasizing how displeased he was with his brother. “It’s supposed to be brother day!”
Kenji’s head was patted by Inuyasha’s large hand, breaking off what could easily have become a full-blown yelling match between the boys, with the accompaniment of Suzume’s wails of displeasure. “Shuichi,” Inuyasha’s voice was firm and left no room for argument, “go clean you and your sister up. I will handle this.”
Shuichi tossed one last exasperated look at Kenji before leaving to clean up – and hopefully pacify – his sister.
As they were leaving, Inuyasha crouched down and lifted Kenji’s chin to look at him. “Kenji, that wasn’t very nice.”
Kenji sobbed his agreement? Argument? Kagome didn’t know at this point.
“Did you ask Shuichi to spend the day with you?”
“Yes!” His indignant response pulled at his parents’ heart strings.
Kagome walked over and also crouched down to look at her son. “I’m sorry that Shuichi didn’t spend the day with you, Kenji. That must have made you feel very bad.”
Kenji lifted his little hand – still covered in the juice and pulp of the overripe peach. Kagome tried to not look to see if there were maggot leftovers as well, but her mother’s brain couldn’t help but take in the whole sight and wince at how gross it was. And it was right next to his eyes and mouth.
Inuyasha also noticed his youngest hands, pulling them down to wipe them off on his sleeves. “You can’t be throwing rotten fruit at your brother because you feel bad. We have to use our words, buddy.”
Kenji sniffled louder and Kagome quickly jumped in to clarify. “Can you tell Shuichi how you feel when he gets back. I’m sure he didn’t mean to forget to spend the day with you.”
Kenji’s nose let out a long stream of snot, another decoration to Inuyasha’s sleeve. He nodded firmly, accepting his father’s cleaning of his face.
“Is there something special you want to do with Shuichi?” Inuyasha asked, indicating with a slight head tilt to Kagome to get water from the bucket to clean up the little toddler.
“Bug hunting.”
“Well, I’m sure Shuichi would love to go bug hunting with you when he gets back.” Inuyasha wiped off Kenji’s face with the damp cloth provided by his wife. “Use your words and ask him, okay?”
Kenji nodded again, waiting for Inuyasha to finish cleaning him up before asking for a hug from his father. Inuyasha readily agreed, picking up the small toddler before settling down by the door to wait for his oldest to come back.
True to his nature – which came from his mother – Shuichi listened to Kenji’s words after handing off Suzume to Kagome. As they boys left to go bug hunting, Kagome rested her head on Inuyasha’s shoulder and sighed. “Look what you’ve done.”
“What I’ve done?” Inuyasha took Suzume from his wife to snuggled her against his chest.
“Yeah,” Kagome wrapped her hands around his arm, cheekily looking up at him and smiling. “You have big hands so you made children that are handfuls that only you can handle.”
Inuyasha’s eyes rolled and he looked away from her. “Well, good thing you’ve got me and my big hands then.”

Stay
Woah, two posts in one day? Yeah... yeeeeeeah. I don't usually post so late, but as I sat here staring at this document, I realized that if I don't post it now, I never will.
Okay, look, this story is extremely personal for me and I want to give a warning about that. If you know me or have been following me for a while, you may have noticed I tend to keep to myself, I'm quiet, and I'm private. But, as most humans, I have things I battle, too. I've been through things, too.
My coping mechanisms are humor and "add to cart." My therapy is writing. I decided to give this a shot. I've gotten personal with older fics before, but it's vague and I sort of lightly mix it in there like food seasonings. "Everything's Okay" and "A Moment" are examples of which. This story is largely based off something real. The emotion behind it is real. Very real.
Now, I will admit, the comfort added isn't. It's something I've realized over the past couple of years that I both crave and deserve. It's something that would help me incredibly, and maybe it's unrealistic, but that doesn't take away from the fact that I want it. So bad. So, I wrote. I made it happen.
I decided to project everything into my comfort otp, so if either Kagome or Inuyasha seem out of character, it's because they are. Sorry about that. It was difficult to keep their characteristics in tact. Particularly, Inuyasha. He's unbelievably soft here.
This is sloppy. I did my best to edit, but like I said, the longer I sat on it, the less likely it was bound to be posted. Just consider it unfiltered emotions if it seems messy, because that's what it's supposed to be.
Some disclaimers that I'll open up about: Yes, all of those negative things have been said to me by a past ex. What Kagome tells Inuyasha is very real for me. Also, replace "abusive father" with "abusive mother" and you've got it. :) I just didn't feel comfortable disrespecting mama higurashi with such slander, so since Kagome's father isn't in the picture, it was simpler.
Okay, I'm done. Thank you. If you read this, thank you. Again.

“Come on, Kagome. Show me.” Inuyasha encouraged supportively.
Kagome sighed, adjusting the shorts a bit better around her waist as she stared at herself in the mirror on the inside of the door. She’d comfortably tucked herself away in the walk-in closet of her boyfriend’s bedroom, preferring the space she had and the length of the mirror as opposed to the bathroom that only showed her up to her hips unless she bounced to her tippy toes.
“Houston, we have a problem.” She spoke.
“Define ‘problem.’” Inuyasha proposed. “Because, I realized a long time ago that you and I have two totally different definitions of the word.”
No, this was a definite problem. Unfortunately, it seemed she’d purchased clothing from one of the retailers that didn’t quite grasp that some woman had thicker asses and thighs. The shorts fit, but they hugged her in places she needed a little more room in. God forbid, she sit down. Then, they’d fit her like underwear.
The band was comfortable along her hips, but felt a little better if she pulled it up a smidge toward her waist. But then the underside of her booty cheeks popped out, and that for sure wasn’t something she could sport in public. Or, she could. She just wouldn’t be comfortable doing so. It wasn’t her style. She preferred a hint of more modesty. Not to mention, the shorts were very tight against her lady bits, and that was definitely something she didn’t want her clothing riding up on.
“Babe.”
“Curse these thighs.”
“Oh, see what I mean?” He chimed from the other side of the door. “That’s the exact opposite of a problem.”
“It’s a problem if the shorts don’t fit, Inuyasha.”
“Show me.”
“They don’t fit.”
“Okay, we’ll return them. But, show me first.”
“Why do you want to see them if they don’t fit?” She laughed lightly.
“Why wouldn’t I? Do I have to spell this out to you every time?” Inuyasha asked, making it obvious that he was feigning irritation.
“It doesn’t hurt.”
“Alright, first of all, I know you’re ridiculously critical of yourself. I have a more objective point of view, and therefore that makes my opinion the only valid one here.”
“Hey -“
“I’m not finished. Second, I love seeing you in tight clothing. That’s a given. You don’t have to keep it, and you should always wear things you’re comfortable in, but at least do the right thing and let me see first. I think I deserve that much. Third, and most importantly, ass and thighs. Your ass and thighs.” Inuyasha made a chef’s kiss motion even though she couldn’t see, losing himself in the thought of some of his favorite assets of hers. “You know damn well how much I love them. So, please - please - come out and show me, Kagome.”
Behind the door, she fought her smile, losing so quickly it was as if she hardly stood a chance against it. It wasn’t that she didn’t like her body, but he was right. There were some imperfections that had her self-conscious at times, and he knew without saying when they started dating over five months ago that her thighs were one of them. And, she could tell the half demon she called hers genuinely adored everything she deemed unworthy.
Giving a minor adjustment to make sure the area between her thighs had enough room to breathe, she sighed out any apprehension and opened the door. Inuyasha sat on the edge of the bed waiting, golden eyes instantly on her. He skimmed over the way she’d tucked her shirt into the underside of her bra to keep it out of the way, gazed at her tummy for a small moment, then drifted his sights down to the shorts hugging her snuggly.
He barely blinked, his expression practically blanking, and Kagome’s cheeks went red hot.
“Inuyasha?”
“Shh. I’m concentrating.”
Kagome laughed, turning away from him bashfully.
“Shit, no! I wasn’t ready for that!” He cried, pressing the heels of his hands into his temples as if he were in a panic. Her ass. It looked phenomenal. He wasn’t mentally prepared to see just how plump it looked in those bottoms, and it sent his mind reeling.
“What!?” She gasped, her hands instinctually falling to cover her butt as she spun back to face the way she’d originally been.
“Oh my god.” Inuyasha mewled. “Are you kidding me, Kagome!? Where’s the problem!? Where’s the mother fucking problem!? Because, I don’t see it!”
It was thought to be impossible, but she felt her face flush even hotter. So hot, she wanted to hide it, knowing full and well her embarrassment was visible and prominent. She kind of tucked her head down slightly, hoping the dim lighting in his room would be her ally and shade her blush while she presented her issues with the garment of clothing.
“Well, it’s tight on my thighs. See, when I do this -“ She explained as she lifted her leg slightly as if she was going to take a step forward. The bottom hem of her shorts tightened against her quad, squeezing around the plush before riding up an inch. “It’s not very comfortable. I like a bit of a looser fit. And, then my butt. It’s suffocating. I’m scared one wrong move will make these shorts rip.”
“God forbid.”
“Inuyasha, seriously.” She deadpanned.
“Sorry, sorry. I’m listening. Anything else?” He apologized with a grin, conceding.
“Yes. I can’t sit in these.”
“Why not?”
“Too tight.”
“So, you literally can’t sit?”
“No, I mean I’m sure I can. It’s just not a good idea.”
“Because, they’ll rip?”
“That. Or, they’ll turn into chonies.”
“What?”
“Underwear.”
“I’m sorry, I wasn’t aware you got such versatile clothing. I could have sworn we were nowhere near the lingerie section.”
Kagome laughed through her groan, tossing her head back in minor exasperation due to her boyfriend’s sarcasm. It was going to be hard to describe, and she was sure if she attempted such he’d only throw more jokes her way, so she shut her mouth and decidedly took to demonstrating her vexation. She crossed the floor, hoped for the best, and plopped into a seat right next to Inuyasha. Her thighs fluffed out and her shorts effectively rode all the way up, giving her legs the attention they apparently demanded.
Inuyasha’s eyes were glued to her thighs and the way her clothing wrinkled along her anatomy. He’d had to press his lips into a tight line to prevent their proud and joyful crinkle, but it was so desperately difficult to fend off. Kagome was quick to notice and her brows pinched together, a small pout forming.
“You tricked me.” She murmured. “You wanted me to sit down, didn’t you?”
“I’ll admit, it was a lot easier than I expected it would be.” He said, gently stroking the pads of his fingers over the softness of her legs. “Again, I find it important to remind you that you and I clearly have very different definitions of what a problem is. This… this is not a problem. Not at all.”
“Well, see, I sort of wanted to be able to wear these outside of your apartment.” Kagome giggled, inadvertently melting into his touch. It was so light, it almost tickled, but she felt his warmth radiating from his hand, she felt his attraction, she felt his good-natured and honest feelings toward her body, and it was nothing short of what she both wanted and needed right now.
“I know, I know. We’ll return them and get a larger pair. Still, not a problem.” He grinned, planting his whole palm on her thigh and sliding it inward, shoving it to sit in the heat between. He leaned over and kissed her temple.
“Don’t even think about it.” Kagome hummed, leaning into his tender touch.
“Hm?”
“You’re about to lay down on my thighs, aren’t you?”
“What? I can’t?” The half demon pouted with legitimate shock on his brow.
“The moment you’re down, you’re down. You know damn well you’re not getting up if I let you, and I want to get out of these shorts.”
“But, Kagome -“
“Boy, if you knew exactly how these are constricting certain areas, you’d understand.” She laughed, playfully shoving his hand off of her as she stood. Before walking toward the closet where she’d left her skirt, she turned to face her boyfriend, bending at the waist and pushing his bangs from his forehead to plant a kiss against his skin. “I should get going soon, anyway. It’s getting late.”
“Don’t go, then.” He said, tone gruff as his amber eyes met hers. “Stay with me.”
It wasn’t the first time he’d asked her to stay the night, impromptu. Far from it. Every time, though, caused something in her chest to stir, something in her stomach to flutter, something in her bloodstream to effervesce in both a wonderful and unsettling way - the unsettling part deriding from a different emotion she’d recently noticed planting its roots somewhere inside of her. Inuyasha grabbed her hand, running his thumb over the tops of her fingers while his expression shifted to one of seriousness. No jokes, no funny business, no sarcasm was present any longer.
“I don’t feel like I got all the time I wanted with you. Since we were out and about most of the day, I feel like I had to share parts of you with the world, so now that it’s just you and I, I’m not quite ready to let you go. Will you stay?”
Internally, Kagome was telling herself to keep it together. It was such a small gesture, such a tiny request, but it was always the little things he said to her, like this, the mannerisms he displayed when he was sincere, the way his amber eyes met hers when he waited for her answer that had her feeling unstable. Like, she could cry. Like, she was more afraid than she was thirty seconds ago, or an hour ago, or when she saw his smile earlier this afternoon when they met up, or last night, or when she crashed and burned upon realizing what, exactly, it was she felt for Inuyasha a month ago. She swallowed, forcing herself to show none of that as she made a small smile appear on her face.
“Can I borrow a shirt to sleep in?”
A grin sprouted on Inuyasha’s lips as he kissed the hand he held, standing to cross over to his dresser.
“You want your favorite, or a different one?” He asked, ignoring the twitch his own sensitive ear gave as the wood scraped open.
“Whichever. Can I take a shower?”
“Of course.” He said in a manner that suggested she knew she didn’t have to ask by now. He was well-acquainted with her routine and how she preferred showers before bed as opposed to first thing in the morning. That, and they’d recently gotten her some extra toiletries to store in his bathroom for times she stayed over. He was equipped for her company, and sooner or later, Kagome was bound to learn that she was more than welcome to treat his place as her own. Her scent, her voice, her contagious laughter were all he needed, and if his apartment was filled with it, Inuyasha couldn’t think of anything that would make him happier.
Kagome took the large band tee the hanyou offered with a grateful smile and snagged some boxers from the top drawer he’d just opened with a playful, little scrunch of her nose before ambling over to the closet to pick up her skirt and reach for a towel on the shelf.
Why? Why was her heart thumping uncontrollably? She was so happy. So, so, so content. But, yet a crippling sensation was crawling its way up her esophagus to make home in her throat; to grow large, and dense, and sit there to make it impossible to swallow any longer. Ever since that night a month ago, when she’d hung up the phone after a goodnight call with Inuyasha - who was traveling at the time for work, was beyond tired, spoke to her in that husky tone she was utterly weak for, and who’d called out of mere courtesy to let her know he’d made it to his destination safely - she hadn’t been feeling secure. Not because of him. He hadn’t done anything wrong. In fact, despite their little, bickering spats and his tendency to get a bit jealous over guys she spoke to, he was doing everything right. He wasn’t the one giving her reason to fear. It was her.
It was what she’d been through.
It was something she was so terrified he would turn around and say to her, that it practically debilitated her rational mind.
But, still, the feeling it stemmed from grew and expanded, the tree roots burying themselves in the soil of her heart, and Kagome was positive by now, after thirty days had passed with no decrease but, instead, the exact opposite, that there was no convincing herself that it wasn’t there. Because, every time she saw him smile, every time he held her hand, every time he expressed himself to her, it banged on her walls like an innocent prisoner demanding freedom.
When she was sure her emotions weren’t superficial, when she was positive there was no changing anything on her end, Kagome had to really look within herself to figure out how to maneuver about things. Did she openly tell him? Was there a right time to say these things? She even debated never saying anything at all, and for a good while, she was settled on that option. It wasn’t the right thing to do, though. It was like she was allowing her past, her previous broken heart, to dictate how she expressed affection toward others, and the potential ‘others’ who hadn’t done her wrong didn’t deserve that. Kagome had always been the type to wear her rather large and vulnerable heart on her sleeve. The cage she held it in now, it wasn’t locked. She wanted to put it back where it belonged, but she was so scared, it made her nauseous. The cage door was opened, held cracked from the inside, the weary organ protecting itself behind a barrier that just needed some encouragement to come out from.
Again, she’d wondered to herself countless times: was there a right moment to say something like this? Was there a procedure she needed to follow? She’d said it first last time, and nothing ended in her favor, so maybe she shouldn’t be the one to initiate this topic? Maybe it applied too much pressure? Should she just keep it to herself behind lock and key? Was he going to be receptive? Was it going to scare him away? Please, don’t scare him away. Please, please don’t leave.
And, countless times, she ended up in tears from the crushing weight of it. Kagome knew the truth. She didn’t have to consult anyone to know what the right thing to do was. It didn’t matter how many nights she stared at the ceiling obsessing over right and wrong, this or that, pros and cons, yes and no’s, because in the back of her mind, the answer was right there in big, bold letters. She was just trying to dance around it. It was so stressful. Something that was depicted as a happy and liberating occurrence was reduced to horrifying and anxiety-inducing for her.
The fact of the matter was, no one should have the power to change her heart. More so, Kagome shouldn’t give anyone that power. The way she felt so deeply was, in fact, a good thing. It was. It was. It was a fight just to get herself to understand that again, feeling like she was convincing herself of something she no longer believed, but she knew the only way she would, once more, feel that freedom was to open up. Stop hiding.
The thought was heavy. It didn’t sit comfortably with her. There were certain things Kagome was okay talking about, and there were certain things Kagome would rather eat up, swallow, and take to the grave. But, that was vulnerability, and she understood that if anyone deserved that part of you, it was your partner. Inuyasha was her partner. He was patient. He listened to her about things that made her uneasy, he took into account how she could be both a social butterfly sometimes and introverted during others, how when she was overwhelmed she had a tendency to shut down, how physical touch was her love language, and he even went so far as to ask her how she would prefer he respond to certain predicaments if she were to ever get overstimulated with him around.
Inuyasha had proved time and time again that he not only wanted to experience every side of her, but that he deserved it. He deserved it.
It jostled her to the core as she considered telling him now, her stomach churning, her heart pounding erratically, her bottom lip quivering as she’d learned to expect rejection. It was why she struggled initiating anything. It was why she had trouble saying the words to anyone but herself, “I want.” It was a learned reaction to her past trauma, but Inuyasha, the half dog demon she called hers, the silver-haired man who always did everything he could to make her feel safe while with him, the person who treated her as special as he’d insisted she was, wasn’t the one who’d hurt her. So, she’d decided over a week ago, she was going to do it. She was going to do it and let him know. Best case scenario, it was always nice to hear you’re loved and he may end up appreciating her confession. Worst case, things were going to get awkward and tense and it may end their relationship for good.
Kagome wanted to be Kagome again. Not the person she was before she’d met her ex. Not exactly, at least. She still wanted the lessons she’d learned with him to be applied to who she was. They were valuable, and not everything she learned had her closing off. As an open-minded thinker, she realized that not every wound left a scar, so not everything that happened made her a victim. Some things are just incidents that taught her lessons to take into tomorrow. So, she wanted to return to Kagome, the bright girl who faced her fears, who wore her precious heart on her sleeve, her loved with everything she had no matter what, but who was just a few experiences wiser. But, no one could do that for her. No one could give her that push she needed. It all came from within.
Of course, so did fear. So did nausea. So did that anxious part of her brain that said, “Let’s do it tomorrow, instead. Or, the day after that.”
Kagome took a deep breath, trembling as it may have been, and looked over to her boyfriend. He’d just removed his shirt from over his head, his short, tousled, silver strands appearing slightly messier than before once he was free, and he glanced over his shoulder her way, most likely feeling her eyes on him.
“Inuyasha,” She tried to come off as stable as possible, but there was an obvious waver in her tone that gave her trepidation away.
“Hm?” He hummed, the corners of his lips twitching downward before he dropped his shirt on the floor and faced her better.
“Can I - um…” It was impossible to hold her eyes steady on him, her deep, brown gaze falling to the floor every time she picked them up to look at him. “I need to talk to you about something.”
“Okay. I’m all yours.”
Kagome took another breath, willing her body to stop fidgeting. It was Inuyasha. It was just Inuyasha. As soon as she realized there was no stilling her fingers beneath the clothes and towel she held, or the way she bit hard into the inside of her bottom lip, she felt the best course of action was to simply carry on; wavering eye contact, trembling fingers, quivering lips, and all.
“Let me first preface this with: please don’t say anything. Just let me get it out there. I don’t expect anything from you in return, there’s no pressure whatsoever, and I would rather you not say anything at all. Like, at all. Okay?”
Truthfully, Inuyasha was freaked out. Had something happened? Was she about to admit to something bad? Kagome looked about ready to breakdown and cry, and the fact that she was asking for him to remain completely silent only told him she was afraid of judgement. Never had she asked him to stay quiet before. And, he hated how apprehensive his girlfriend looked right now. His instinct was to solve the problem, so what was he supposed to do here but agree to her terms?
“What’s going on, Kagome?”
“Please?”
“Alright. I won’t talk. Now, spill.”
She pinched the back of her wrist to stay grounded, to keep from crying. God, she was so pathetically nervous, and three times now, she’d almost convinced herself to back out and pretend it was a joke. That wouldn’t be right, though. She wanted to cry so bad and she hadn’t even said anything yet, so she pinched herself harder, her nails incidentally digging in. As soon as she felt a degree of control fall back into her grasps, Kagome leveled her gaze at him.
The words sat on her tongue, weighted with the shackles she’d placed there herself. A lump had formed and solidified in her throat, clinging for dear life and making everything so much harder than it needed to be. God, she was really shaking. Her breathing was becoming unsteady as if she’d already started crying and she could feel her expression crinkling into something terribly sad. She knew that was how she appeared only from the way Inuyasha’s lips parted, how his brows curved in worry, how he wanted to reach for her but seemed so confused that he could only stand there and wait.
Like a bandaid. Once the words were out, it wouldn’t be so bad anymore. She just had to get through it.
“Um - I - I - I am -“ The stammering was relentless, and out of sheer obstinance, Kagome shied away for one moment, took a short breath, huffed it out, then faced him again. “I’m in love with you.”
There was a slight arch to his brow, and his chin inched to the side minutely. Very slowly, Inuyasha’s lips sealed and his gaze hardened, falling to the ground. Hastily, Kagome followed her confession with disclaimers, irrevocably panicking.
“A-and, I don’t expect you to say it back! You don’t have to say a word about it! There’s no pressure at all, Inuyasha! I swear!” With each statement, he seemed to be growing more and more tense, and Kagome was terrified she was only making matters worse, but she blinked profusely so her tears didn’t have the chance to breach the brim of her lids. “I just wanted you to know. So, yeah. Now you know.” Her voice had fallen to a hitch just above a whisper at that point, admonished.
Inuyasha kept his promise. He didn’t speak. Kagome was stiff in her spot, not quite knowing what move to make next. She hadn’t thought this far ahead. It was hard to think beyond her admittance in the first place. It was too quiet, and she could hear the clock in the living room loudly ticking seconds by.
“Just nod or shake your head; do you still want me to stay?” She asked sheepishly.
Finally, Inuyasha’s glowing stare rose to hers again, and it frighteningly seemed to grow harder, more tense. She saw the rigid muscles of his jaw clench, and his chest rose with the very slow inhale he took through his nose. Steadily, the hanyou responded with a firm nod. In the next moment, he gestured for her to head down the hall to the bathroom with a notch of his chin, which she wasted no time in complying to. Kagome bit her lip, hard, shakily turned on her heel, and left Inuyasha alone in the room.
The second he heard the bathroom door lock and the shower turn on, Inuyasha dropped his seat on the bed, crumbling forward as he braced his forehead in his hands, elbows jabbing into his thighs. His chest was physically aching, his throat tight, and Inuyasha felt thoroughly crushed. He could literally see the fear in her eyes, the anxiety holding her by the neck. Why? Had he given her some reason to worry? Had he made it seem like that was a taboo topic?
It didn’t take long to rationalize. Logically, he knew it wasn’t him. It wasn’t personal. And, he knew that because he knew exactly how it felt to be afraid of unadulterated vulnerability. It felt like you were naked, exposed to the world, trusting someone with something so valuable and important when you weren’t even sure if you could trust yourself with something like that. It was hard. It was nerve wracking.
But, there was something deeper to it.
Why else would she insist he didn’t respond? It was clear as day. He knew that feeling. He’d been hurt before, too. They’d been together for almost half a year, he knew a good portion of her story, and she knew just as much about his. It was impossible to know it all quite yet, though. Five, six months may seem like a long time to some, but it’s honestly nothing in retrospect. They’re just scratching the surface. He knew the general aspects about her abusive father, he knew she had an emo phase in high school, he knew the superficial shit like her favorite colors, foods, drinks, what medications she needed to take and how often, he knew how she tasted, her tickle spots, where the heating pads were stashed in her apartment - because she had multiple for easy accessibility depending on what room she was in while she was down for the count on her period, and he knew she’d had her heart broken before. But, he didn’t know every little detail about certain things yet.
Inuyasha had had his heart broken before, as well. He knew that feeling. He knew how gruesome and tedious it was to start over, how awful the idea of opening up all over again was, how awkward and weary it felt to tiptoe around specific subjects until you felt comfortable enough describing them, so on and so forth. He knew. Just, apparently, not as well as Kagome did. He was willing to guess that her heart wasn’t just broken. It was trampled on.
His most recent relationship was up and down. He and his ex were never on the same page. He fell quickly but his feelings were unrequited. Then, later on, she began to show more affection, but he’d become closed off by the time that came. Nevertheless, neither of them spoke those words. They never truly opened up about what they felt, how they felt, or why they felt anything, especially romantically. Up until now, Inuyasha had never heard the words, “I’m in love with you.”
Up until recently, Inuyasha had never felt the urge to say, “I’m in love with you.”
No.
That’s wrong.
Sure, recent was a broad term, but it happened several months ago. Several months too soon, he’d deemed. Kagome was playing with his niece, teaching the six year-old how to use a toy compass she’d brought home from class, and congratulating her excitedly whenever Rin got something right. His niece wasn’t shy by any means. She was talkative, playful, bubbly, and bright. But, she had this thing about being touched. She didn’t like it. Only certain somebodies could hold her, hugs were off the table unless you were one of four people, high fives were a maybe, and yet he watched the little girl ask Kagome to watch a movie with her when she was done with the compass, cuddle up next to her on the couch, and fall asleep on her lap without persuasion.
That was it. Kagome respected Rin’s autonomy and boundaries, and Rin let her in by the third time they’d met.
And, Inuyasha fell. Hard.
Again, too soon. So, not saying it was easy. No big deal. After a while, it sort of began spilling out in his idiosyncrasies, in the way he touched her, worshipped her, in the way he craved the knowledge on how to properly care for her. In his terms, he was being painfully obvious. It was almost humiliating how obvious he was being.
It just looks like it wasn’t obvious enough. How could he have expected her to understand? It’s not like she was fluent in his body language or habits. At this point, if she needed it spelled out to her, he’d happily do so.
Because, despite her overwhelming and damn near crippling fear she’d just waded through, Kagome still told him the truth. Kagome courageously stood there, attempted to look him in the eyes, and told him she loved him, no matter how scared or nervous she appeared. If he needed to say it back in order for her to understand, he could return the gesture without hesitation.
First, though, he needed to comprehend what was going through that head of hers. He wasn’t going to jump to conclusions. This wasn’t the time to do so. What she was feeling, that look in her eyes, it stemmed from something deep, something that wasn’t quite healed. He needed, desperately needed, to know what happened. He’d promised to keep his mouth shut earlier, but he hadn’t promised how long he’d hold that. She may have meant about that topic entirely, but that was something he couldn’t and wouldn’t agree to. There was no way in hell he was going to let this slide. Eventually, they were going to have to discuss this.
Now was that time.
Inuyasha suddenly stood, filled with a rage that had surfaced as soon as she shakily asked him if he still wanted her to stay, feeling so irate that he could only clench his fists and pace the floor. There was a good fucking chance this originated with her ex. Maybe her father, but his gut told him otherwise. The things he knew about that relationship were vague. Kagome didn’t like to fixate on it, which was reasonable for anyone who’d moved on, and they never really found a good time to open up about nitty gritty details pertaining to failed relationships; they were more focused on one another and their individual lives. He was fuming. What the fuck had that motherfucker done?
He knew they broke up over two years ago. He knew he’d dumped her just before their anniversary. He knew their relationship wasn’t entirely horrible, but much like he and his own ex-girlfriend, they were rarely on the same page. That’s about it, though. He’d heard a thing or two about how she’d realized way after they’d broken up just how toxic their relationship actually was - one of those late night, shower-thought epiphanies - but she never much elaborated. Hell, she talked about it all so rarely, Inuyasha had even forgotten the fucker’s name. He was her ex-boyfriend so that naturally deemed him irrelevant, because Inuyasha was her current boyfriend and that was all that fucking mattered. But, now he wished he remembered because it would make it at least a little easier to track the bitch ass down and punch his lights out.
She’d opened the door, and he needed to know what was on the other side of it. Inuyasha not only craved, but found it a foundational necessity to understand what had her so anxious to tell him how she felt. First, he recognized he needed to calm down. He couldn’t approach this with heightened emotion because it would cause Kagome to feel insecure and unsafe, which he would never allow her to feel around him.
That was hard for him to do, though. To swallow his frustration, push it aside. He felt things passionately, much like Kagome did. For her, for the light he always looked to for a sense of peace and felicity, for the woman he respected and cherished, he would do it. He could do it.
It took a moment, but Inuyasha left his room and headed to the kitchen, grabbing a bottle of water to sip on and an extra one for his girlfriend. The shower had stopped running moments ago, and the hairdryer was now blowing. She was biding time. Kagome, more often than not, let her hair air dry. This was killing him. The fact that she was so afraid, so nervous, the fact that she felt anything but contentment in the face of pure and unbridled emotion. Inuyasha just wanted to burst through the bathroom door and tell her to stop, demand she look him in the eyes and say it again and watch how he would never turn away from her. What could he have possibly said that had her more content with silence?
Content wasn’t what she’d felt at all though, was it? Even after he’d kept his mouth shut, Kagome was still trembling, still incredibly uncomfortable.
He was going to the bottom of this.
But, something in his heart wrenched. Overall, he just hoped with everything he had that she didn’t regret telling him.
There was careful deliberation on where he should wait for her. He’d debated standing outside the bathroom door to guide her back with him, but that would apply a lot of pressure straight from a safe zone. There was always the option to sit on the couch until she emerged, but still, he was worried she’d feel like she was under a spotlight. No matter what, Inuyasha was going to be taking her back into his bedroom. It was cozy and comfortable, and he just wanted to fucking hold her. The best course of action was to let Kagome come to him. When she was ready. No matter how much patience wasn’t his virtue. So, he ambled back through the doorway with both water bottles in hand, placing them on the nightstand as he got himself into more comfortable clothing. He’d never finished changing after dropping his shirt on the floor. He grabbed his grey sweats off the end of the bed and shoved his legs into them after removing his jeans, then fished a black tank top out of his dresser, easily and quickly pulling it over his head.
It wasn’t a bad thing that she’d told him. Kagome should be proud of herself. Over and over again, she’d repeated that in her head, but she couldn’t stop herself from feeling like she’d done something wrong. Maybe she’d put him on the spot and made him uncomfortable. She should have at least given him the space to tell her he wasn’t ready to say it back if that was how he felt. That she would have completely and wholeheartedly understood without fault.
Now she was stuck in an unknown area, her head was foggy, her fingers kept trembling, and her eyes were puffy from crying like a baby in the shower. The goal was to tell him how she felt. It was a step in the right direction. A step toward who she truly was behind the protective walls. From this point on, depending on how Inuyasha was feeling, it might be best to pretend nothing happened. Sweep it under the rug.
Everything was so conflicting, so turbulent, and Kagome could bring herself to do nothing but stare at the bathroom doorknob. Her hair was dry, she was dressed in her borrowed outfit, smelling purely of Inuyasha, and even though he still wanted her to stay, she couldn’t believe anything other than the possibility that she’d ruined everything.
What would happen once she exited the bathroom? Would things be uncomfortable? Would he be laying down in bed, facing the wall away from her, silent? Would he ignore her? Would he say something she was terrified to hear right now? Or, was she trapped in her unhealthy thoughts? Was she preparing a response to something that wasn’t waiting for her outside that door? Was she not giving Inuyasha the opportunity to respond in his own, organic way, expecting all the responses she was trained to anticipate before?
With a deep breath, Kagome reached for the knob, twisting it to exit. The apartment was as quiet as it was when she locked herself inside, the clock in the living room ticking loudly as she slowly sauntered through. Lights were dim, but the bedroom, through the opened door, was inhabited. The lamps shaded the white walls in warm hues, and as she got closer she noticed a very soft hum of music playing through the bluetooth speakers he had set up in there, quiet but still melodic and comforting.
Though her heart was pounding and a jittery sensation within her chest was causing her to tread cautiously, she followed the path into his bedroom, spotting Inuyasha sitting on the edge of his bed with his head in his hands. He was quick to notice her presence, sitting up and glancing at her, and even though she faked a smile with a curious notch of her head, it was clear he saw right through her. How wouldn’t he? If he already didn’t know her so well, it was obvious she wouldn’t go from cripplingly apprehensive before her shower to sweet and happy immediately after.
Inuyasha noticed the pink in her cheeks, the stupidly cute but feigned upturn of her plush lips, the way her deep eyes bounced away from him before coming right back only to repeat the same motions. His Kagome. His sweet, hurting, beautiful Kagome.
With an arch of his brow, the hanyou wagged his finger at her, ushering her over to sit on his lap. She was hesitant at first. She knew what was coming, but still, despite her slight discomfort, he released a small, breathy chuckle so she knew he wasn’t upset with her.
“C’mere.” He requested softly, patting his thighs.
“What?” Kagome returned, unsure.
“I want you. C’mere.”
Slowly, she crossed the floor, accepting her boyfriend’s support as she straddled his lap and got comfortable. An uncontrollable pout formed on her face when he looked into her eyes, she felt it, and humiliation washed over her, causing her to hide her expression between his shoulder and neck.
Inuyasha was patient, making sure she was secure in her seat before his hands traveled over her. At first, he couldn’t help but hug her tight. In this moment, Kagome seemed so fragile and he could already feel her body shaking against him. She knew he was going to talk whether she liked it or not.
Still, he gave her a little more time, relaxing against him, her chest melting on his, her arms wrapped around his shoulders but accepting his full support as his hands rubbed over her back soothingly.
“You want to tell me what happened back there?” He asked, opening back up the topic.
“Did I do it wrong?” Kagome spoke, her voice small.
“I’m not worried about right and wrong here, baby. Can you look at me for a second?”
Carefully, Kagome leaned back, giving him the attention he requested. His large, warm hands cradled her jaw, his thumbs caressing her cheeks, his eye contact firm.
“I never want you to be afraid to tell me something, okay? Especially, how you feel.”
Immediately, Kagome began to crumble. Her cheeks grew hot and her lips twitched downward sadly. Tears too quickly threatened her eyes, and Kagome was hasty to hide her face in his shoulder again.
“I need you to talk to me, Kagome. What’s going on?” He asked, returning to rubbing her back. In the silence as he waited, he picked up the back hem of the large shirt she wore, pushing his hands beneath so he could gently massage her skin. The heat from her, the softness, he craved it right now. “Was it something I did?”
Kagome fervently shook her head against him.
“I’m never going to understand unless you tell me, baby. That wasn’t the normal amount of nervousness you’d expect when saying something like that. So, what’s going on?”
“I just didn’t want you to feel obligated to say it back if you weren’t ready.” Kagome sniffled, hugging him tighter.
“Okay, I get that. And, what else?”
“That’s all.”
“You can’t lie to me.”
“Can we just pretend nothing happened and go back to our happy date night?” She whined playfully.
“Unfortunately, no.” Inuyasha chuckled, catching her small attempt at laughing off her problems. “I can’t do that while you’re crying on me, Kagome.”
“I’m not crying.” She sniffled again.
“Oh? You’re not?”
“Nope. These are just allergies.”
“And, what are you suddenly allergic to?”
“Feelings.” Kagome giggled, though she began crying harder, only because her boyfriend was being sweet and obviously getting through to her. She both hated and loved it at the same time.
Inuyasha kissed her shoulder, holding her a little tighter as his hand slipped higher up her bare back. The curve from her little slouch against him had her spine popping out slightly, and ever so softly, Inuyasha traced his fingers over the bones.
“What were you so afraid of me saying?” He all but whispered.
Mustering up some courage, Kagome leaned back, using one hand to meagerly clear her messy face of tears. She took a few unsteady breaths before speaking, her eyes falling to the hem of the collar of his black top, and she allowed her fingers to distractingly drag along it.
“I didn’t want you to tell me you loved me if you weren’t ready or felt pressured, because I don’t want you to take it back later on.”
The hanyou’s brows furrowed inquisitively and he was unable to bite back the reaction of his head cocking to the side in bemusement.
“What?” He almost hissed. “Why would I do that?”
Kagome didn’t answer, continuing to play with the shirt he wore.
“Kagome, why are you afraid of that happening? Don’t tell me -“ Inuyasha had to tense his breath in his lungs to refrain from letting his upset get the better of him. “Did your ex…?”
She responded with the littlest nod, worrying her bottom lip incessantly. “Multiple times.”
“Multiple times?” He echoed on an exhale, his expression widening. His hands were holding her hips, squeezing as comfortingly as possible, but Inuyasha was struck cold. Not only had someone shattered her, but someone managed to look at this woman on top of him and take back their love on more than one occasion? This girl? How? He’d only had her for half a year and he was scared shitless of losing her, so it didn’t make any fucking sense that someone would just toss her aside like that as if she meant nothing.
Slowly, Kagome curled forward, tucking herself against his shoulder. It was like a safety net. Inuyasha was so warm, he held her perfectly every time she felt emotional and vulnerable. As much as she didn’t want to talk about this, she knew this topic would come up eventually. It was a staple of her by now, something she was clearly conditioned to expect after years of receiving it, and even before she fell in love with the man stroking her back beneath her shirt, she knew this issue would arise. It wasn’t going to be easy or quick to work through, that was a given, and she knew he was ultimately going to need to know some of the toxic occurrences of her previous relationship; things that were done to her and things she’d done, as well. She’d considered it was going to be something he’d want clarity on as soon as she admitted her feelings. It was fair. Being on the other end of things, he deserved to know what she’d been through and why she inadvertently responded the way she had.
It was just hard. It was hard to think about and hard to talk about.
But, if she could power through her fear of admitting her feelings, then she could give him everything else, too. It was another step in the right direction, no matter how unsteady the pathway seemed.
“I told him I loved him first, and he responded by telling me I shouldn’t. He was my first love, so I didn’t really know how to react or what to say to that. It’s not like I could just take it back or agree or something.”
“Right.” Inuyasha almost hummed, listening intently to her explanation as he kissed her shoulder here and there.
“Almost a year later, he told me he was falling in love with me. A few months after that, he took it back and said he wasn’t so sure anymore since we’d been arguing.”
The half demon couldn’t control his reaction to hold Kagome a little tighter. It was like an attempt to protect her from things he knew he couldn’t begin to protect her from. If he could control it, no one would ever speak to her like that. No one would ever hurt her this way. No one would ever be able to apply that pressure to her shoulders, because how could she not feel obligated to be perfect and compliant in order to feel valued and cherished?
“Then, I don’t know how long later, he told me he loved me again. It stayed consistent for a while. He’d tell me periodically, particularly when I did nice things for him or if I said it first. Then, again, he ended up taking it back. I had felt it that time and asked him if he still loved me. He said, ‘I don’t know.’ Followed by,” Kagome’s fingers clutched Inuyasha’s shirt, exhaling tremblingly, though she had been doing so well at keeping it together. “‘Maybe soon I’ll love you again, though.’ So, I idiotically stayed. I held onto that hope. I waited and waited until we got into this stupid fight and he broke up with me the next day. He made sure to emphasize that he didn’t love me. But, said he might in the future, we’d just need to stay friends. ‘You never know what the future stores.’”
God, Inuyasha wanted to kill him.
“There was one night after we finally found separate places, we were packing, getting ready to move out of our shared apartment, and we were talking about old things. He told me he never loved me. And, I just never understood why things went on for so long just because he wasn’t sure. Why would you say it if you didn’t? Why couldn’t he have let me go sooner? What good was I if he didn’t even want me there? I wasn’t strong enough to leave, but he was because he literally hung that over my head for most of the time we were together, threatening me with leaving if I didn’t do something right. I have so many things to work through because of him, so many trauma responses to correct, trust issues that I’m projecting unto you, and he walked away like nothing ever happened.” Kagome cried, once again shaking against Inuyasha.
All he could do was kiss her, hush her soothingly, hold her tight, rub the hot flesh of her back. Let her cry. He understood now. He got it. It was why she struggled to take compliments the first time around. It was why she second-guessed sweet gestures. It was why she assumed everything was sarcastic and insincere. It was why she thought her love for him was problematic. She didn’t want him to say anything because she was scared of the words, “I love you.” They meant nothing to some people, they were used as tools, and so easily, they could be erased. Sad thing was, Inuyasha was sure that even if he said the words right here and now, she wouldn’t even believe him.
“Of course, he’s obviously not the sole reason for why I am the way that I am. Can’t give him credit for everything.” Kagome gave a wet giggle, again laughing through her problems. Her coping mechanisms were all over the place, but it was still cute.
Inuyasha sighed defeatedly, laughing lightly as he rested his head on her shoulder.
“So,” He breathed. “You didn’t want me to say anything because you figured nothing was better than something I could hurt you with.”
Her silence was as good as confirmation.
Inuyasha pulled her in firmer, an arm supporting her low back as he picked her up, rotated their bodies, crawled a little further on the bed, and laid her beneath him on the mattress. He had a knee between her legs, but rested on her side, an elbow propping him up while he used his free hand to gently swipe her tears away.
“It was more because I didn’t want you to feel pressured.” Kagome finally spoke after moments of peaceful silence, taking the opportunity he provided to calm down before continuing. “But, then I started to panic. I felt like this is supposed to be a good thing, right? Not everyone is going to respond the way he does, right? I just wanted to tell you so bad. It’s supposed to be a good thing, but I got trapped in my head thinking history would only repeat itself.”
“Baby, are you sure you were ready to tell me?” Inuyasha inquired, dragging his finger along her temple to clean the tears that followed gravity.
She nodded, her bottom lip quivering. “It’s bad enough that I’m afraid of love. I didn’t want to allow myself to sink and be afraid to love, too. That’s not me. I feel like I’d only be letting him stick around in my mind if I did that, but I just want to love you. I do.” Kagome cried, eyes falling away from him. “I wanted you to know, and I’ve been holding onto it long enough.”
Inuyasha leaned his head down, kissing her shoulder. It wasn’t enough for him. He needed to feel her skin beneath his lips so he pulled the baggy collar away so he could leave a tender and invisible mark on her clavicle.
“How long?” The hanyou breathed.
“A month or so.” She matched his soft tone, trying to steady her lungs and bring herself back to a calm. “The night you went on your business trip.”
“Europe?”
“Mhm.”
“Not too bad. It was the groggy voice, huh?”
Though her eyes were still wet and the hair at the sides of her temples were soaked, her cheeks flushed, Kagome glanced back over to him with a hint of surprise. “How’d you know?”
“Because, I knew I’d get a response from you. Always do.” He smirked, planting sweet kisses against her cheek, and moving up to kiss tears away.
“You know I like that?”
“It’s my job to read you like a book, baby. I take my work very seriously. You’re subtle, but I see things I do that you like. You’ve got little mannerisms that give you away.”
“Like what?”
He hummed a decline. “I’m not giving that secret to you. Let me have this. You know what I will tell you?”
“Hm?”
“Do you promise to hear me out? No interrupting, okay? Just listen to me.”
There was an increase in the tension that climbed through her muscles, and her pout turned weary. Inuyasha took a moment to continue kissing her temple, her cheekbone, his palm finding its way beneath her shirt to softly stroke her tummy. When she relaxed a little, he leaned back to look at her.
“Remember that day Rin took a nap with you? I stayed up that night. Couldn’t sleep. I had you here next to me, and I just couldn’t stop listening to the sound of your breathing. I was scared shitless, but the crazy fucking part was, even though you weren’t awake, having you right here helped keep me calm. It was counterintuitive. I was both scared of you and at peace with you. I wanted you to wake up and do that thing where you tickle the small of my back with your fingers because, god, nothing feels better than that. It was like you held all of me in the palm of your hands, and you could easily drop it in the trash at any given moment. But, it’s you. I knew you wouldn’t. That was my night, though. That was the moment I realized I was in love with you.”
Kagome hardened slightly, and he could literally hear how hard her heart was thumping within her chest. She didn’t smile, didn’t frown, didn’t make much of any expression really, aside from her brows giving a minor, inward twitch.
“That was quite a few months ago. Nothing’s changed. If anything, it’s gotten deeper. I’m so worried one day you’ll walk out those doors and never come back. I don’t want to lose you just as badly as you don’t want to lose me.” He was the one to hide his face this time, tucking it within her neck as he threaded his arms around her back, holding her close. He hadn’t expected her to clutch him in return, but she did. Immediately. Kagome supported him through his own moment of vulnerability, but more importantly, he felt it was a way to communicate her reception. “I don’t care how many times I have to say it until you begin to believe me. I don’t care what I have to do to make you feel secure in our relationship. I’ll do it all. You know I don’t say shit unless I mean it.”
“I believe you.” Kagome whispered, a small hiccup at the tale end that jostled her chest. “That’s the scary part.”
He nodded again, pulling away to gently press his forehead to hers for a moment.
“I get it.” Inuyasha breathed before leaning back to look her in the eyes. “But, one of these days you’ll understand that no matter what happens, I won’t take a damn thing back. You’ll see that I don’t want it back. I feel like my heart’s safer with you, anyway.”
“Stop it.” She pouted, but he knew that was her way of conceding. Even as she cried a little harder and tucked herself into his chest so he couldn’t see it. “You’re being too sweet. Be mean to me again.”
Inuyasha chuckled, raising his hand, “As you wish.” He said, smacking it down against her butt.
The little yelp she released was so sad but adorable as she flinched away from the sting, but it inadvertently brought her to cuddle closer to him. The hanyou laughed, brushing his fingers through her hair and massaging her scalp.
“Can you do something for me?” He asked.
“Hm?” She grumbled into his chest.
“Tell me again. This time look right at me. Don’t look away, don’t fidget, just trust me. That was my first time hearing it. I gotta hear it straight.”
She hadn’t realized Inuyasha hadn’t heard the words before. She didn’t know that. This was big for him too, if not bigger. Was she his first love? Was she the first person he’d ever said that to? Kagome felt a warmth course through her, and even though she was slightly nervous, she didn’t feel unsteady. Not while he held her. Not while his amber eyes were above her, watching her with an emotion she’d never before seen. She came out of hiding with a level of ease she hadn’t felt a moment ago, secure, one of his hands lightly trailing her side beneath her borrowed shirt.
Her fingers had a mind of their own, reaching for his cheek as she softly caressed it, her thumb tenderly rubbing over his bottom lip. “I love you, Inuyasha.”
It was like a sigh of relief left his lungs, and the corners of his mouth inched upward. His eyes were hooded with affection, and he leaned down to kiss her, lingering on her soft lips.
“Your turn.” Kagome whispered as he pulled away, her brown eyes shifting from his eyes to his lips.
It felt incredible that she wanted to hear it now. And, though he knew everything was going to take time until she felt comfortable with the idea that he wouldn’t take a damn thing back, he knew it would take time to work through her trust issues little-by-little, he didn’t mind. Because, she was his and he was hers, and he was all too happy to hold her hand and walk by her side while they figured everything out. He couldn’t fix this for her. He hated that he couldn’t take her pain away. That’s not how it worked, though. He knew this. She knew this. Inuyasha was her partner through everything, and he’d be the best fucking partner he could be.
He grinned with their foreheads pressed together, his hand on her waist gripping tighter as he couldn’t help but chuckle from sheer bliss. “God, I’m so fucking in love with you.”
Kagome smiled, pushing Inuyasha over to roll on top, once more straddling his hips as she gazed down at him. She wanted to burn this image of him in her mind. She never wanted to forget that soft look in his eyes, or the way he reached up and tenderly wiped away any remaining tears that stained her face. He meant it. She believed him. And, she hoped with everything inside of her that he never took it away from her.
She curled down, cuddling into her chest and Inuyasha immediately turned his head to kiss her forehead. He held her close, gently stroking her hair back and basking in her incredibly comforting heat. He loved her. He loved her so goddamn much. His Kagome.
“What do you need right now, baby?”
“Nothing.” She hummed.
“What do you want, then.”
He knew she struggled with that one, but whenever he asked, she did her best to communicate properly. “Touch my butt again.”
Inuyasha laughed huskily, his hands gliding down her back to take a firm and wonderful hold on her ass.
“And, pizza.”
“Oh, see, I’m a step ahead of you on that one. Ordered a couple before you got out of the shower.”
Kagome gave a short half whine - half squeal of happiness as she cuddled in closer and kissed his neck. “Thank you.”

Chapters one and two are LIVE!
You can now read this on Fanfiction and AO3. But if you prefer, its also below! Here’s day two of sins and virtues week: Pride and Humility for you @sins-week!
Chapter Two Summary: Kagome and her older brother Miroku have happened upon a jinni in a bottle. So now what? What does one wish for these days? It’s Miroku’s problem since he rubbed the ‘lamp’, Kagome, meanwhile, is far more concerned with the man, Inuyasha, who needs some care. It becomes increasingly clear, it’s been a long time since anyone showed Inuyasha some compassion.
Tumblr media
He stood there in all his glory; Inuyasha had on a pair of strange pants, and that was all. While my brother freaked out beside me, I unconsciously drank him in. I am human, after all, and this jinni was built! If he hadn’t told us already, I would have thought he was a Greek God with all his smoke and chiseled marble!
His long white hair fell in strings around his chest, though. I didn’t need to get close to know this jinni needed a bath!
“Can you two idiots stop gawking and get on with it?!” Inuyasha screamed at us again.
The jinni’s eyes were fixed on Miroku, but they flicked to me from time to time. My focus was split between that flicking and the one his ears did on top of his head. Inuyasha must have caught my stare.
“What’re you lookin at, Woman?!”
I pried my tongue off the roof of my mouth and pointed to his ears. “Why do you have dog ears?”
Inuyasha rolled his now molten-colored eyes at me and crossed thickly muscled arms across his chest. “I told you, Ima jinni! Do you ass wipes have a hearing problem?!”
“We hear just fine,” Miroku cooed, using the voice he did when working someone over, “perhaps you could explain a bit more to my sister, Kagome, here? She’s a bit slow.”
I rammed my elbow into Miroku’s ribs hard, but he still kept close. For his protection or mine, I wasn’t sure. Inuyasha chuckled softly. “I bet.”
“Hey! You don’t know me, jerk!!” I screamed without thought.
The jinni inflated, becoming twice the size he was before like a small giant. “And you don’t know me!! So stop wasting my time!!”
He shrunk back down after a minute, and we continued to stare at him in silence. Until Miroku took a deep breath, “I’m still not sure I understand the ears….”
Inuyasha growled, tipping his head all-around in irritation, “what the fuck does it matter…arrrgggg, Ima hanyou, alright?!!!”
Silence again until Miroku leaned into me and whispered, “....isn’t that something prostitutes charge twenty bucks for?”
Tumblr media
“WHAT?!” The jinni was pissed, and Miroku crouched next to me—while I was used to my brother’s idiocy ticking off those around me to the point of rage.
“Calm down; he’s just an idiot.” Inuyasha had inflated in size again, but at my words, he shrunk back quickly, staring at me the whole time. That was worse than his anger, with his eyes cooling to a honey color. “Why don’t you…relax? Take a shower?”
“A shower? What the hell?!”
“I’m sorry, but...you kinda stink?”
Inuyasha lowered his head in what I assumed was shame, and I felt guilt instantly. Then, before I could say anything in comfort, Inuyasha flopped to the top of my small kitchen table. I expected it to break from the weight, but it was like he was floating. “No one cares if I smell or if I’m sick. You’re not supposed to. The only thing you’re supposed to care about is your fucking wishes!”
“Wait, wishes?!” Miroku was back to interested. “What wishes?!”
Inuyasha sighed heavily and crossed an ankle over a thigh. “You get three wishes; I can’t make anyone fall in lo, and I can’t bring anyone back from the dead...so don’t ask me!!!”
Inuyasha roared the last part, but my brother nor I was confused. “Okay,” Miroku said simply.
“You’re…you’re not pissed?”
The jinni was the one confused now; his mouth opened as his confounded stare passed from me to Miroku and back. I shrugged, “those are the standard rules, right?”
Chuckling darkly, Inuyasha shook his at the floor, rubbing the back of one of his ears. “You mean to tell me; you don’t know what a jinni is, but you know the rules?”
“Oh, we know what a jinni is.”
“Seen the movie.”
When Inuyasha continued to look confused, I leaned closer to him. “When was the last time you…got out?”
He shrugged then looked at his pants, tugging on them, “how the fuck should I know? My last master liked my pants. Does that help? He called them…hammer pants?”
“Oh, crap,” I muttered without thought. So this guy had been locked up since the 80s? The last time Inuyasha was out of his lamp, I hadn’t been born yet!!
The jinni looked offended again, hopping to his feet and stepping closer to tower over me (and not Miroku). “It doesn’t matter, Wench!”
“It does if you’re going to use outdated shit like Wench!”
I was in his face, the all-powerful jinni, and hanyou, and my only thoughts were, “he really needs a bath”! Something was wrong with me, and yet it was the hanyou that took a step back. “Then what should I say?!”
“How about Kagome? It’s my name! Ka-go-me, try it, Inuyasha!”
He was silent, probably just to keep his pride intact. Miroku grabbed me from behind, pulling me back by my shoulders to stand before the jinni instead. “SO…I rubbed your lamp; does that make me your master?”
Inuyasha’s eyes flicked to me once then remained on Miroku. “Yes.”
“ALRIGHT!!!!”
Miroku was busy pumping his hands in the air and celebrating while I went around him, grabbing the jinni gently by the arm. “Go home and get him some clothes.”
I was already leading the dirty hanyou to my bathroom while Miroku whined like a child. “He’s a jinni, can’t he just ‘poof’ his own clothes?!”
Inuyasha was oddly silent, staring at me. I did all I could to focus on my stupid brother instead. “You think if he could, he’d look like he spent the last decade sleeping on the streets? Get him. SOME CLOTHES!!!”
Miroku hitched up his rigid body to the ‘fuck, she pissed’ train and got out of my sights. If he didn’t come back with clothes fast, I was going to punch him in the dick.
Tumblr media
As I expected, I had to turn on the shower for Inuyasha. And although not surprised, I was still embarrassed when I had to wash his hair for him. His cheeks were a tad pink, but that could have been from the warm water I had him under. He did his floating/sitting thing so I could reach, which was good because even on my toes, I wouldn’t have reached his crown. Inuyasha was lucky he didn’t have bugs or something extra gross in his hair. Other than dirt, his hair and scalp were fine. Must be a youkai thing? What dug would be brave enough to bite a demon?
Everything was going as well as could be expected, scrubbing down to his scalp as he sat before me. Inuyasha leaned into my touch, and it made my throat tighten. When was the last time this man was touched? For even so much as a handshake? The PJs I was still wearing were soaked, but I didn’t care, and Inuyasha wasn’t even paying attention. He was far more invested in my hands. I knew I’d done something wrong when he grabbed my wrists hard. It must have been my fingers inching closer to his ears.
“You’d better…let me do that….” Then, Inuyasha took over scrubbing while I adjusted and worked on the ends of his long white strands, “are you not…afraid?”
I kept my focus on his hair even as I neared his lower, taut back. Fear was the last thing I felt. Anger at the masters before Miroku couldn’t even let the jinni take a bath. Guilt for all this man had endured before us. And…something else from the water and soap tricking down his muscles, but not fear. “Should I be?”
“Ima an all-powerful….”
“Yeah, I know. But you’re still a living, breathing creature. And…you’re half-human, aren’t you?”
Inuyasha’s breath caught, and in the tiny space, I heard it with ease. “You know what a hanyou is? But your brother….”
“My brother is lazy and has fewer expectations put on him by our family. I know a lot more Japanese and folklore than him. Are these…tattoos from your servitude?”
I didn’t mean to look, but they were kind of hard to miss, thick black markings all over his upper body—maybe lower, who knew, with Inuyasha’s pants still on and wet from wearing them to wash. Instead, my focus was on the one around his arm, the long spiral the shape of a centipede. Its black and shiny shell looked real as if the monster was alive on Inuyasha’s skin as it dug its pincer legs into his muscles.
He was silent. A touchy subject, I moved on. “So… you’re from Japan? You called yourself a hanyou, so you must have….”
“My mother was Japanese. A long…long time ago.”
I wanted to know more, learn more about the history of this fascinating creature. But Inuyasha released his legs from their crossed position and stood. It pulled the hairs I was scrubbing from my grip.
He didn’t face me, so I stepped back as much as I could. “I’m done now.”
Inuyasha wanted out of the shower, but he was still covered in suds and had yet to take off his tattered pants. “Okay…I’ll let you rinse and wash the rest on your own then.”
“The rest?”
Outside the shower, I turned back and glared at him. “Yes! You need to wash your entire body! Kami, did you forget proper hygiene, mister all-powerful jinni??!”
“No!” He said, indignant, but it was clear, he had, “Fine, I’ll wash the rest!!”
Inuyasha was already tugging on his pants, and I turned as quickly as my hungry eyes would let me. I still caught the shimmer of white hairs at the bottom of his abs. With the yummy V leading to it, it was hard to ignore. But was I really any better than Inuyasha’s last masters? Oggling him while he was so vulnerable?
I had to swallow my thick shame down my throat, and it hurt.
Busying myself, I got dressed. Pulling on my favorite sundress, I silently thanked my mother for forcing me into the habit of shaving once a week. Not that I was trying to look good or anything; I wanted to feel good for my reasons! It had been a rough week!
“Kagome!”
There was so much panic in Inuyasha’s voice, I ran! Tripping and slipping along the way, I got there as fast as I could with one (probably broken) stubbed toe. But my pain melted away as Inuyasha stood dripping from the shower in my bedroom…naked; he was upset he was wet with nothing to fix it with.
“Inuyasha!!” I ducked my head and covered my eyes, “use a damn towel!!”
I slipped some more as I went back to my shower on the droplets Inuyasha left behind. Then, towel in hand, I returned, my eyes to my floor the whole time, and thrusted it out into the air. I didn’t lift my gaze until I was sure he was decent (enough), but he was using the towel to dry his hair when I lifted my eyes.
“Oh god…”
Inuyasha chuckled, “hate to tell ya; God ain’t got nothing to do with this.”
He gestured to himself, and I tore away after far too long, ogling again. “Just…stay here until Miroku gets back!”
Twisting had me nearly on my ass, and Inuyasha was kind enough to catch me. Hands on my biceps, I took note of their size. They wrapped all the way around my arm…and ended with long claws sharp enough to rip a person in half without struggle. But that wasn’t what caused my shiver; it was the large and warm chest on my back. “What? Now you’re scared? Or did you want to look some more?”
There was a cocky air to Inuyasha’s tone, but something else that had me rushing to my feet and out of his hold. “I’m not going to do that to you, Inuyasha.”
I heard the air rush out of his mouth, but when he said nothing more, I went back to my hasty exit. “Kagome,” he stopped me at the door, “thank you.”
The way he breathed it out, I had to wonder if it was the first time in a long time since he’d said it? Or the first time ever.
Tumblr media
Miroku brought back a t-shirt, jeans, and some boxers for Inuyasha. It meant we didn’t have to wait long for him to be dressed, but I still smacked the shit out of Miroku for bringing him something so worn out. I was still beating on him when Inuyasha stepped into the living room. The loose-fit jeans and shirt were a little tight on Inuyasha, and I had to stop myself from drooling.
The last thing Inuyasha needed or deserved was to be thought of as a piece of meat.
Looking lost, he wandered up to us. I shook myself out of my haze and grabbed him, pushing him to a small chair in my kitchen to sit. He was silent as I brushed his hair, even as I hit some very nasty tangles. It wasn’t until I began to braid his gorgeous silvery hair that Inuyasha said a word.
Clearing his throat first, it was like his words had gummed up during the wait. “What do you wish of me, Master?”
Miroku stepped before Inuyasha, and I glared while my brother smirked. “I can have whatever I want?”
“Everything from riches to fame. Just not more wishes, love, or zombies.”
I gave Inuyasha a playful push to his shoulder, “nice cultural reference!”
He shrugged, “you still have zombies in this time?”
I shivered at the thought, “only on the silver screen, I hope.”
“You have screens made of silver?” Inuyasha gasped, turning to look back at me.
I freed up a hand to push his chin back to the front, “it’s an expression….”
“Can we focus, people?” Miroku spat nervously, “I need a moment to speak to my jinni.” I rolled my eyes and made sure to make it clear, Miroku had better watch himself. “If you’re a hanyou, that means you’re part demon? How do I know this isn’t some trick to get my soul or something?”
I glared at my stupid brother while releasing a long and heavy sigh. Inuyasha didn’t so much as flinch or hesitate. He must be used to these kinds of questions. “Because, asshole, I’m not that kind of demon.”
“Djinn aren’t inherently evil, Miroku. Some are just tricksters….”
“Exactly,” Miroku spat, “trying to trick me into selling my soul!”
Inuyasha huffed and pulled away from my touch. Good thing I was done, quickly twisting the hair tie to the end of his braid before I had to start all over. “See the ears? I’m not an incubus or even Satan’s acquaintance. I’m a dog demon. Hence the name in case the ears weren’t enough.”
“Huh, I kinda thought they were ears like a hell hound or something?”
“No! Make your damn wishes!”
I didn’t get the rush. Shouldn’t Inuyasha want to delay? Stay out in the fresh air longer?
“Alright, if I can have whatever I want, give me that necklace?”
I hadn’t even noticed it, too busy looking at everything else on his body (and his body), but Inuyasha wore a heavy-looking beaded necklace. The black orbs were mixed with white fangs. It breathed danger on looks alone.
Inuyasha’s fingers grazed the black glass, touching the requested item as if he was scared of it. “You don’t want this…trust me. Besides, you need to phrase it correctly. You have to say “I wish” first, or it doesn’t count.”
Miroku tapped a toe in irritation until I came to his side and smacked his arm hard. “Stop being an ass!”
“Alright, alright, fine! How about…” Miroku pondered, and I would have fussed, but it was a big ask. What did one wish for? If it were me, was there anything I wanted enough to use a jinni to help me? My thoughts were interrupted since Miroku and Inuyasha were arguing.
“I’m not asking you to make someone love me; I’m asking you to help me get someone to love me!”
“That’s the same fucking thing, idiot!!”
“Guys!!” They silenced and looked at me, “be clear, Miroku! What do you want?”
“I want him to take me to the woman I love!”
Inuyasha jumped up and screamed, “fine!!!”
My stomach flipped, and I stumbled; Inuyasha caught me -again- and my brain spun as I looked around. No longer in my kitchen, we stood on a random street. Barefoot, I was thankful I at least changed out of my PJs before unceremoniously dumped out in public somewhere. “Where are we?”
Inuyasha just put me back on my feet when Miroku breezed past, making me spin. I had to assume Inuyasha halted me this time, still so lost and confused; I was dizzy.
“Holy shit, it worked!”
Miroku was pressing his nose to the glass of the building we stood next to. It took me a minute, but I was able to stand on my own. I gently pulled from the hanyou’s grip and stood beside my crazed brother. “I don’t understand. What worked, and where are we?!”
“We’re where Master’s love is.”
I gave Inuyasha a glance for his explanation, the street starting to look familiar. Then, turning slowly back, I peered past Miroku, who drooled all over himself currently, spied the person he was looking for. “You’ve got to be kidding me….”
There, inside the dimly lit café, was Sango.

InuPrompt 2022: Wish (11.11.22)
Summary: Kagome orders some cheap exercise clothes from the predecessor of Wish and learns some things.
Tumblr media
“Why do I gotta be here? Why not use Sango?” Inuyasha huffed irritably as he shifted his weight. This whole thing was so utterly embarrassing. It wasn’t like he was an expert in fashion. Besides, whatever opinion he ultimately gave would be taken as an insult somehow. That woman could interpret everything he said to everyone else so easily but when it came to herself, Kagome might as well as have been blind. She could be so stupid. So willfully ignorant.
“You’re the one having to carry me around all the time,” Kagome called back - the sound of ripping plastic and the scent of chemicals erupting followed. Inuyasha gagged and had to repress his shudder.
“The hell are you doing back there?” he snapped irritably, “If that’s the clothes, I already say no. Cloth shouldn’t smell like that.”
“Well, sometimes synthetic fabric smells like gasoline at first. It goes away so keep an open mind,” Kagome called back, “I just thought that it would be better to wear something more practical and I’m tired of chaffing.”
Inuyasha laughed softly at that. He’d been wondering since the beginning how that stiff fabric and obscene skirt was working out for her. Far as he could tell it didn’t breathe and he’d seen the evidence of irritation himself. Still, if she wanted something more comfortable, he would’ve found her something instead of her ordering stuff from a magazine. Especially if he had known the magazine crap smelled like death. She probably thought that he’d get her something tacky but more likely, he would’ve scoured the earth to find a fire rat robe so they could match.
See, now that would’ve been cute and serve many purposes. Mainly, it would show the world that she was his and he was hers. That they were a unit in many interpretations of the word. Even if her understanding kept getting lost in translation.
Inuyasha smiled to himself and hummed. What a weird thought. Matching. But weirder still, the idea of matching with her made him very, very happy. Especially if they had kids one day. They could all match. Hell, if the kid didn’t have ears like him, they could use a bow to…
His smile faded and he quickly locked those images away where they couldn’t hurt him.
“If you wanted new clothes, I could’ve found you some,” Inuyasha huffed in frustration as he cricked his neck, “Still might. Ain’t no way chemicals are better for your skin.”
“They were so cheap they were basically free,” Kagome called back - her voice muffled by what Inuyasha assumed was a top, “Now I want you to think about how great this would work in battle. Able to move better. Probably run faster. Less me losing focus trying to keep my skirt from flying up.”
Snickering softly, Inuyasha had to admit he’d enjoyed that view often enough to know exactly what she meant.
“So you’re trying to be more modest?” Inuyasha offered with no lack of amusement, “If you are so concerned-“
“Well that too,” Kagome offered and Inuyasha made a face, “And villagers won’t be whispering about whether I’m a floozy.”
Inuyasha snickered at the strange term. He didn’t have to know the word to understand what she meant. Good little girls didn’t wear skirts that didn’t even go below the fingertips. Never accidentally showed off their beautiful, flat, flawless stomachs. Especially didn’t let men grab their bare thighs.
Inuyasha wrinkled his nose.
“So you’re covering up then is the idea,” he stated more than asked - disappointed at the implication that he wouldn’t be granted his favorite privilege anymore. Still didn’t explain-
“Again, why am I the one who has to cast judgment? This is a girl thing,” Inuyasha sighed heavily, “I’m sure whatever it is will be…”
Kagome began coming out and Inuyasha’s brain flatlined.
“Well Sango is a little more traditional. She already doesn’t approve of the outfit I normally wear and I don’t trust that she’d give me an honest opinion,” Kagome continued as she began smoothing out some of the wrinkles, “She’d just shoot it down.”
Inuyasha was not proud of the noise he made when Kagome fully emerged from behind the silk screen. Something between a moan and a whine. His knees turned to jelly and he promptly sank to his butt while the woman in question looked at him like he was insane.
That is, until her eyes widened in understanding and her face erupted in flames.
“They’re for exercising,” she blurted before blushing harder when she realized Inuyasha’s dilated amber eyes were focused on a very specific part of her anatomy, “Are you even listening to me?”
Inuyasha nodded absently while his chest heaved. Thank god the monk wasn’t here. Gouging a friend’s eyes out wasn’t something Inuyasha particularly fancied doing but if Kagome was going to wear something like that, Inuyasha was going to make damn sure he was the only man allowed to see her in all her glory.
God, how long had he wanted this? Permission, arguably, to look at her with next to nothing on. An acknowledgement that he had the right. Honestly, it’d gotten to the point where he believed she’d never catch the hints he’d dropped. There were only so many ways to interpret ‘I need you’. Only so many ways to demonstrate that he could be a good provider in every way. Making her medicine. Taking every blow meant for her in battle. Following her to a world that smelled like ass and going out of his way to impress her family. Doing everything they asked and helping them with whatever they needed. Sure, he royally screwed up where Kikyo was concerned but he hadn’t left Kagome once since he declared he’d chosen her. Not once!
But still, somehow, she hadn’t seemed to catch what he was throwing at her.
Until now.
Inuyasha let out another pleased moan as his heart melted. She knew. She finally knew.
Wish granted.
“I mean I know it’s tight,” Kagome mumbled as she quickly began moving backwards towards the screen, “But when it’s just us, I thought it’d be more practical than what I normally wear. The leggings…”
Blinking a few times, Inuyasha’s foggy gaze lowered to the shapely legs that were fully covered. Those he could definitely do without. He liked being able to touch her skin. Gave him a weird comfort in the midst of their day to day struggles. Made him believe, if just for a moment, that she really did trust him.
Kagome turned away from him and Inuyasha immediately changed his opinion. She could wear those all day and he’d never get tired of looking.
“People wear stuff like this all the time in my era,” the miko muttered miserably as she disappeared and Inuyasha let out a soft huff of frustration, “I just thought destroying these would be better than my uniform. I’ve gone through sixteen of them and they’re so expensive.”
Inuyasha would like to say he was listening or that he cared about the cost but the image of Kagome wearing what amounted to a skin tight suit was burned into his mind.
“Looks nice,” Inuyasha called out - wincing when his voice changed in pitch mid-word. That hadn’t happened since he was…well younger and growing. Although, technically something in him was growing at the moment so maybe that had something to do with it. But what did she expect? That top was completely transparent and…
Inuyasha let out another muffled moan and closed his eyes to revisit the memory.
A face peeked around the edge of the screen and she gave him a curious look.
“I have some others. Things I ordered. Maybe they’d be better?” she admitted slowly and eyes flying open, Inuyasha immediately perked up with almost childlike enthusiasm.
“Yeah. Yeah let’s see those,” Inuyasha breathed - his voice still doing whatever the hell it was doing. The innocent face he put on was both precious and disturbing. Since when did she give him a reaction like this?
Figuring this little fashion show would do wonders to her self esteem, Kagome unpackaged another top and squeezed it over her head. Size medium her butt. This tank top was basically a bra and exposed fat rolls that probably didn’t even exist. Heinous was too kind a word and the color was nothing like what had been advertised on the website. What was supposed to be emerald green was a strange combination of neon green vomit and mop water. There were no words to describe how utterly disgusting this color was and no way in hell she was exposing Inuyasha’s HD vision to this. For all she knew, those amber orbs could bubble and start melting out of their sockets from seeing something so hideous.
Squinting her eyes, Kagome pulled the fabric forward and found the pièce de résistance. A weird watermarkish pattern that looked like a kawaii sheep with anatomically correct squid tentacles. What was that?
“You can’t see this one,” she called out as she began trying to tug it over her head only to quickly begin wondering how she’d even gotten the stupid top from hell on. Somehow, someway this stupid piece of cheap nylon had fused itself to her skin or something. Much to her horror and relief, upon almost tripping over her book bag with the shirt over her face, a single claw was there. Effortlessly cutting through the fabric to help rid her of her veritable prison. It was so tightly on there, though, Kagome would’ve sworn she heard the vacuum seal pop.
As relieved as she was to be free, though, that second that poor excuse for fabric hit the ground, his lips were on hers. Which brought with them a whole new type of panic. His fingertips exploring every inch of her torso they could until they finally delved into her hair to keep her in place.
“Those are for me,” Inuyasha laughed almost playfully against her lips before his hands reached down to hoist her legs over his hips, “Only for me.”
As he quickly maneuvered so that her back hit the wall, Kagome’s eyes widened as her mind started to race. Especially when, after he secured her, his hands slid up to pin her wrists above her head. Yeah…this was moving way too fast and far too soon. There was still…well a skyscraper high tower of mess they needed to clear up before, well, any of this. And this wouldn’t and didn’t mean anything to him. He clearly had made some presumption or, you know, was just male and instinct driven.
Inuyasha’s lips began tracing her jaw before moving down her neck and she lost her train of thought.
“S-stop,” she finally managed in between little whimpers and moans. His reaction was immediate. Panting heavily against her skin, Inuyasha froze and went rigid.
Scared of him. She was scared of him.
“W-what?”
“I said stop,” she repeated. Inuyasha’s breathing hitched a few times before he took a step back and gently placed her feet back on the floor. His face, however, remained hidden in her hair. She could feel his breath coming out in fast uneven puffs. Ticking her hair and skin as he tried to get ahold of his reaction.
“I didn’t…” he tried - his voice cracking wildly as he pushed his nose closer and a strange whine worked it way out, “I just thought that y-you…”
Without further warning, he turned and hurried out of the room. It was then and only then that Kagome registered something wet sliding from her hair into her cheek. Running the odd clear liquid between her fingertips, she was far too frazzled to immediately recognize it but when she did, you had better bet she was throwing on the nearest shirt so she could chase after him.
Unfortunately, he hadn’t gone far and she nearly tripped over his body which was planted firmly just outside the door.
He caught her. Of course. But her life flashed before her eyes on the unexpected way down.
“Stupid,” he chided hoarsely as he quickly took a moment to wipe at his face, “Why’d you go and do that?”
There was a double question there. Kagome knew it. Inuyasha knew it. The remanent of the poorly made garment even a child couldn’t fit into knew it.
“You shouldn’t be out here,” Inuyasha huffed as he grabbed her arm and moved to roughly yank her inside, “That shirt is almost see through and-“
“I didn’t want you to go,” she offered sheepishly as he forced her to sit and then slammed the door shut.
“Well I’m here,” Inuyasha snapped much harsher than he intended before plopping down in front of her and glaring, “Happy n-“
His anger faded quicker than Kagome could blink as his eyes lingered on her throat.
“Now?” he finished lamely. A look of misery, longing and shame adorning his features. Furrowing her brow, Kagome made to speak before realizing what he was probably looking at.
A hickey. He had been rather…attentive.
Moving her hand to cover the bruise she knew was there, she was surprised when he reached up to gently grab her wrist- staring at the spot with the oddest expression.
“Don’t. Please,” he requested with a shuddering sigh, “Just don’t.”
“I mean, I’m going to have to cover it up if it is what I think it is,” Kagome mumbled in confusion before shaking her head and getting to the point, “Inuyasha, all I meant was that…we, um, can’t be doing…that.”
Nodding stiffly, Inuyasha averted his eyes and tucked his hands into his sleeves.
“Fine. That’s…that’s fine,” he agreed barely above a whisper before glancing at the futon and adding, “Y-you should get some sleep.”
“Inuyasha, what I’m trying to say-“
“You’re really useless when you don’t sleep,” he added a little desperately as his body curled into itself like a dog anticipating being hit by a newspaper, “And…and I don’t want to have to carry you everywhere. You’ve got two legs, ya know? And-“
“Inuyasha. Will you look at me?”
“No,” he huffed as he stared at his right knee, “Go to bed.”
“Inuyasha. Look at me,” she ordered firmly as her hand reached up to try to force his chin, “Look. At. Me.”
“No.”
With him not looking, he completely missed the split second decision that played out behind her eyes. The realization then pleased understanding.
What he did not miss was her suddenly straddling him and wrapping her arms around his neck. Stunned, confused and more than a little hurt, Inuyasha lifted his head only to find his lips being captured in a way that heated his cooling blood.
“I’ll only wear them for you,” she breathed before nudging his chin up so she could attack his throat, “If that’s what you want.”
Nodding absently, Inuyasha was too busy trying to breathe in a dignified fashion to worry about anything else. For so long, he’d assumed trying to start anything with her was a suicide mission. That Kikyo and his general jackassery had ruined any chance he might’ve had. But this…
This seemed to prove otherwise. Mostly. It was within the realm of possibility that she didn’t actually want him. That she was just trying to comfort him or something equally bizarre. She’d kissed him like that before after all. When he was injured and needing to be saved. Maybe he was turning and he didn’t even know.
When she hit a particularly sensitive spot, his back arched and a soft whimper passed over his lips.
“Now. I think we need a talk,” Kagome cooed as her fingertips moved to stroke his hypersensitive ears. It sounded like a proposition from his dreams but given everything, he didn’t really want this to end. The world liked to play cruel jokes on him. Give him hope then snatch it away. If he went along, if he agreed, he’d set himself up for more heartbreak and honestly, he didn’t think he could handle any more.
She pulled away. Clenching his eyes shut, Inuyasha tried to mentally brace himself for impact. After all, what she’d just done wasn’t like her at all. None of this was like her at all. Maybe he’d found himself in the arms of a succubus which overrode his judgment and gave him ideas he wouldn’t normally entertain. That made more sense than what was happening.
“T-talk?” he managed after a few moments before pulling her closer and resting his nose against the nape of her neck. The last thing he wanted was for her to say that he’d ruined everything. That her kissing him was just to soften the incoming blow. He could tell by scent alone that she’d been scared of him and he really didn’t want to hear her say those words out loud. To tell him she was leaving or that she didn’t trust him anymore or that...
“Well…for one thing, you were right. These clothes aren’t the best. I think this stupid shirt ripped,” Kagome admitted as she trailed her fingertips up and down his back, “And the seam of my leggings popped already.“
Letting out a soft groan, Inuyasha didn’t move and tried to hold onto his fairytale for a few seconds longer. At least right now, until she told him otherwise, he could pretend that everything was fine. That maybe she even loved him. But why would she after all the crap he pulled? Like just now. Talk about making presumptions. Even if she did love him, she probably thought he only wanted her because he was turned on. Lust was different than love. Yeah, sure, there’d been both but she wouldn’t know that and she was obsessed with Kikyo. It would take a miracle for her to figure out he would choose her in a heartbeat if things were easier.
But Naraku liked to play with his food. Had already killed one woman. Killed thousands others in ever more creative ways. Played on insecurities and, more importantly, doubt. And Kikyo, well, her opinion on whether he should die or not changed from one second to the next. Was completely unpredictable and he had promised to avenge her. To protect her…
And he’d already screwed up so hard where that was involved. He’d made too many mistakes and…
“But mainly I want you to talk because I love you,” Kagome finished softly as she gave his trembling body a light squeeze.
For the longest moment, Inuyasha’s breathing hitched as he waited for her to correct herself. To realize what she’d said and take it back.
But she didn’t. Quite the contrary. She pulled him closer and whispered the sentiment again. Unsure what was happening, Inuyasha slowly wrapped his arms around her waist and gently nuzzled her throat. A tense contradictory peace began flowing through his veins making it easier to breathe and making his muscles relax.
“I love you too,” Inuyasha offered hesitantly. Kagome hummed and pressed a kiss against his cheek.
It was almost beyond belief.
Maybe, just maybe, something in his life was simple for once. Easy for once. For the longest, he’d assumed any confession he made would be met with a long list of everything he’d done wrong. Being told that he was mistaken and have to live the rest of his life trying to prove he wasn’t. Have to fight like hell and bend himself out of shape to gain her trust. But there was no fight. No accusations. Just love. Beautiful unconditional love.
A lingering tear slid down his cheek. He held her closer and pressed a single chaste kiss against her neck.
“I…I’ll talk but...” Inuyasha trailed off into a breathy chuckle. A faint blush blooming across his nose.
“But I want to see the rest of that shit on you first,” Inuyasha mumbled after a long period of him breathing in her scent to calm his frazzled nerves, “And then we’re burning them all.”
“Deal,” Kagome agreed and Inuyasha felt the broken pieces of his heart begin to sew themselves back together.
And so, in between sessions of making up for lost time, they did just that.

Headcanon Time!
Anime- Sesshomaru Headcanon
Keeps his manners more as a habit than just because he values high manners. Sesshomaru is a lord, sure, but his manners are just muscle memory at this point.
I headcanon this because despite him being all high and mighty, Sesshomaru’s Japanese is kind of rude. Classy rude, but still rude.
Also, he has a temper that’s just like his brother. The handle he has on his temper has more to do with keeping polite habits and less on him actually holding his temper.
After his wards go to sleep for the night, Sesshomaru rakes through his hair with his fingers, starting at the ends, and working his way to his scalp.
More stuff ends up in his hair than you’d think or see, despite him being careful. The way he combs through his hair is reminiscent of how his mother used to brush his hair when he was a pup.
Since....grooming is a bonding thing for dogs...I suggest, that maybe....he would groom Rin much like this. Or an S/O. Just don’t tell anyone he has a reputation to keep.
A sucker for cleanliness.
He walks around in all white, you can’t tell me he’s not a neat freak. If you travel with Sesshomaru, you have to be clean and stay clean. Seriously.
Sesshomaru jokes around. Like a lot. You have to really listen to catch it, and it’s usually at other people’s expense, but it’s definitely there.
I mean, come on. He’s a teenager. An angsty, near-immortal, teenager. Remember when he told Jaken to “pull himself together” after Jaken was cut in half?  Yeah.
See also: every interaction with Jaken and Inuyasha. Sesshomaru is the queen of sarcasm and I will fight for this notion.
Sesshomaru has a soft spot for workers and for children.
You can see it in his interactions with Rin, of course, but also in his interactions with Kohaku. His relationship with Jaken is...strange to say the least, but I think Sesshomaru really does have a soft spot for his little toadie. Why else would he constantly let Jaken hang around?
I can also see Sesshomaru’s gentleness in his interactions with Kagome and Inuyasha. There were many times he could have let the couple die, and there are even a few times when Sesshomaru saves Kagome’s hide.
On that note, I think that Sesshomaru hates Inuyasha more in theory or on principle, rather than actually hating him.
Sesshomaru really could kill his brother if he wanted to. He doesn’t want to, is the thing. I think their clash comes from jealousy from Sesshomaru’s part.
His dad left his wife, and by extension, Sesshomaru, for another woman and ended up siring another family. That’s tough. There was definitely talk around the Western Lands when this happened too, and some of that talk probably wasn’t good for a young Sesshomaru to hear.
This probably tainted the image of the father he once knew, and the younger brother he would later come to meet.
I think this line of thinking is why Lord Fluffy “hates” human and half-demons too. They bring up those bad feelings and memories he’s trying so hard to avoid.

NSFW SESSHOMARU HEADCANON
Okay so we know that Sesshomaru fucks. We know this from the new series. Will I be trying to unravel exactly who he had relations with? No. Not touching that.
I think that sex with Sesshomaru would be good, but a little awkward the first time around.
He’s physically 19, and I’m going to assume that goes for his mental state, at least a little bit. Most teenagers aren’t really Casanovas, let’s face it.
That being said, it wouldn’t be bad. He would be polite, with the manner befitting of one of his station. Until he and his partner really get a feel for what the other wants, assume it’ll be pretty vanilla.
Let’s talk about RUTS BABEY!
So, to be technical, male dogs don’t “go into heat”. However, they are affected by females that are in heat by getting a very strong urge to mate.
This rolls around to Sesshomaru every spring or so, when females start going into heat. It’s more of an inconvenience to him than anything. Too many pheromones in the air irritate his sinuses after a while.
Sometimes, however, Sesshomaru does get periods of timewhere he is more open to the idea of picking up a mate and continuing his bloodline. (Us humans just call this being h0rny).
This comes from his yokai blood and has less to do with him technically being a Labrador Retriever.
I don’t see Sesshomaru as the type to just sleep and mate for the sake of it. There has to be a connection.
He’s seen what that can do to people’s dynamics with his father, and I feel that he’s been trained to be on the lookout for a strong demoness to have babies with, not just anyone.
That being said, I don’t see Sesshomaru just limiting himself on demonesses. He takes after his father more than he’d like to admit.
Sesshomaru is definitely a pleaser. Service dom.
He’s gone through this whole series trying to honor his father’s bloodline and generally make good to his father’s name. You can’t tell me this poor baby ISN’T a people pleaser. He wants to please his partner. He wants to be the best to his partner. His ego really doesn’t allow for anything less.
He’ll do what you want, to an extent.
Rougher sex, gentler sex, sure, all on the table. I don’t think he’d do anything he could deem as “dirty” such as sc*t or w*t*rsp*rts. Other than that though, he’s going to make sure his partner is completely satisfied.

Smoke and Mirrors ~ Sesshomaru x Reader
(( You’ll have to excuse me if I make any lore mistakes. I watched/read InuYasha 7 years ago and I forgot a lot of stuff, but I’ve been thinking about this story idea for a while...So here we are. ))
Tumblr media
“Father? Why are we here?” a young Sesshomaru asked his father, Toga, the Lord of the Western Japan, Leader of the Dog Demon clan. “You are my son, Sesshomaru, and some day, when I will be no more, you will be the new ruler of this place. Everything you see with your eyes, and far beyond the horizon, every living being and every inch of land, will be under your rule.” Inu no Taisho began his explanation to his young son, who resembled him so much. “That is a lot of responsibility you are putting on my shoulders, father.” the boy spoke in a calm voice. “Such is the burden that a Lord must bare, and for that, I apologise. However, this is our duty, and our people must live in peace.” the older man nodded, putting his hand oh his son’s shoulder. “What is it that you want to say, father? I can sense there is something bothering you.” his father smiled softly at how perceptive and witty his flesh and blood is. “Yes, you are right. What I wanted to inform you is that, as you know already, soon enough, you will have to marry, and I have found you a suitable bride. She is the daughter of the Lord of the Northern Japan, the Leader of the Fox Demon clan, and the man I trust the most in my life. He is a brilliant Warlord and his people are thriving, his land has not seen War in centuries, and we agree that together, this country will be much safer.” Toga explained his reasoning and it seemed that the young one sketched no expression on his deadpan face. “I see. When are we going to see her?” was the simple reply he uttered, which left his father with wide eyes, clearly not having expected that. “In a week. She is very young, and the marriage won’t happen for a long time, but we believe getting to know each other would prove to be beneficial...And we truly hope you will get along as well as I and her father do.” the Dog Demon lord smiled down at his son, who could only nod and hum in agreement. “We shall see.” Sesshomaru muttered, before turning around and leaving back inside his home.
A week passed by faster than the breeze of Spring, and so, Inu no Taisho took his son, Sesshomaru, on a journey that lead to the Northern Kingdom, to the Clan of the Fox Demons, and much to the young one’s surprise, there were a ton of unbelievable phenomena happening all around him, that made him get ready to strike, but his father could only chuckle in amusement, clearly unphased by all the trickery.
By the time they stepped up in front of the Castle, they were greeted by a tall man with long, red hair like the blazing fire and striking green eyes that would rival the beauty of a forest. And on his face, there was a very annoying and mischievous smirk that seemed to greatly irritate the young Dog Demon for his smugness and aloof aura he radiated.
“Toga, my old friend, marvelous seeing you again! It’s always such a great pleasure having your companionship, and now, you brought your mini-you!” the man took a long drag of his pipe, letting out a puff that oddly resembled a fox jumping around playfully, before the nine tails, long and red, spread open like a fan of fire behind him, and stepped down the stairs to greet them. “Kasai, it is as you say, always great seeing you. This is Sesshomaru, my son. Sesshomaru, this is Kasai, the Fox Demon Lord I told you about.” the white haired man grinned at his best friend, who gave of a sly grin and bent down from the waist, looking into the boy’s amber eyes. “My, Toga, I believe this young one is going to surpass you in looks, strength and maybe even wit too. I bet Y/N is going to love you in no time. Maybe even put a smile on this cold face of yours...” Kasai hummed teasingly as he pinched the boy’s cheek, which made him glare and slap his hand away. “Sesshomaru, be more courteous!” his father warned, but the red haired man only laughed in amusement, shaking his head and putting his hands inside the opposite sleeves. “Worry not, my friend, he was right to do as he did! Now, if you wouldn’t mind, follow me to the tea room. Y/N is a bit shy so she is still with her mother, doing her hair.” he started walking ahead, only to be greeted by two red haired beings, one mature while the other much younger, yet both wearing rich, pink kimonos with intricate embellishments of gold, their hair mostly let loose, to fly with the wind, but the upper part was held with gorgeous flower ornaments.
Unlike the man in cause, however, their skin was much paler and had natural red markings, fit for being the Nine Tailed Kitsunes from humans’ tails and paintings and their eyes, as green as Kasai’s, yet much more piercing and richer than his.
It was clear to Sesshomaru that women of this clan, perhaps only the nobles, or maybe all of them, had much more delicate and beautiful features than men did, and now, he could understand why humans seemed to fear yet adore the Nine Tailed Foxes so much.
The look they gave you with those jade-like eyes seemed to go right into your soul, leaving you naked, exposed, to the whole world to see and read, only for you to want to beg for more of this seducing charm of their.
It was no secret power, it was just beauty, and they knew how to glorify it, from young to old.
“Ah, look who we have here! My darling, you look radiant! Here, here, this is Toga, my dear old friend, and this little one is his son, Sesshomaru.” the man planted a soft kiss on his daughter’s forehead, before putting his hand on her back, encouraging her to step in front of the two new men. “It’s great finally meeting the man who accompanied my papa on so many adventures. I am Y/N, it’s a pleasure.” the young one smiled shyly, bowing her head slightly to show her respect for the two visitors. “My, she’s so adorable! And she has such an angelic voice! She truly resembles her mother more than you, Kasai!” Inu no Taisho gave a mirthful laugh that strongly throughout the forest. “Toga, Toga, always so nice with everyone! How is Inukimi, I haven’t heard from her in a while! Is she a bit jealous that cute, little Sesshomaru looks more like you than her?” Moeru put her hand to her mouth, humming in amusement. “Moeru, darling, let’s get Toga inside for tea and let the children get to know each other and have fun. I’m sure they couldn’t care less about our adult conversations.” Kasai suggested, putting his arms around both his wife and best friend, guiding them inside.
After a few silent seconds between the fox and dog demons, the girl cleared her throat and raised her head slightly, to meet to boy’s golden eyes, giving him a playful smile.
“I heard you will be staying over for the night. Is that true?” she asked, already knowing the answer, and yet, wanting to play coy. “It is.” he answered in a monotonous voice. “Twilight is going to appear...Come on, let me show you something.” Y/N extended her hand for him to take. “Where are you taking me?” the silver haired boy asked, his brows furrowed in confusion. “Shh, wait and see! It’s a secret place.” she giggled, before running even faster than before, which surprised the older boy who could barely keep up with her. “It’s a secret no more if you tell it.” he pointed out, as soon as they arrived at a lake. “I keep no secrets from my fiance.” she chuckled, before sitting down at the base of the willow, dipping her feet in the warm water. “I see.” he looked down at her, a tad uncomfortable and unsure, as he sat down next to her. “Do you want to know what makes this place so special?” she asked him, with a soft smile on her face. “Sure.” he replied, as more of a mutter. “This is a human tale, and it goes as follows - Every Twilight, the Lake of the Princess is graced by the presence of a maiden, the nymph of the lake, Limnades, more beautiful than any man has ever witnessed in his life, and she comes here to bathe, for the water is magical and it sparkles like diamonds, making her skin flawless and delicate, just like a flower. At midnight, she emerges from the water, as fairies come to robe her, and she walks upon the sheen of the mirror water, dancing in the moonlight, to the tune of a flute and the wind rustling and dancing with the falling leaves and cherry blossom petals. Some call her Sakura, while some say she is a Will’o’Wisp, and yet, nobody knows the truth.” she told him the story that has been passed down from generation to generation, only in her clan. “Are all mortal tales so absurd?” Sesshomaru scoffed at the girl’s story. “Yes, they are, but don’t you think they hold a grain of romanticism to it?” she chuckled at his apathetic reaction. “What is the real story behind it, then?” he faced the girl. “Well...It’s all much simpler, really. The truth is that the only magical thing about this place, is its beauty. The moonlight is so powerful here that, since the lake is surrounded by big trees, it looks like a silver mirror...And the fairies are just ordinary fireflies...We have plenty of those, thankfully.” she grinned at him in amusement, as he nodded in understanding. “And that maiden, nymph or whatever she is?” he asked, wanting to know the whole truth. “About that...” she giggled mischievously, before springing up and taking a leap towards the middle of the lake, which startled the boy...Only to see her floating.  “How...?” he asked as he jumped to his feet, looking at her in wonder. “It’s one of our many tricks, Sesshomaru. This Lake is the place where the Princesses of the Fox clan bathe. We all have a love for fun, art and beauty, so of course we use our illusions to make everything as perfect as possible. We know a variety of dances, we all wear luxurious clothes, no matter our ranks or titles, and of course, we all know how to play at least one instrument. We have so many festivals, so we all have a lot of fun!” she explained, twirling around, letting her nine tails spread around in a fan of fire, just like her father did, greeting them. “So humans can’t differentiate between a Kitsune and a Naiad. Clearly, one cannot expect much from them.” calming down, he leaned back on the old tree, watching her with a certain sparkle of curiosity in his eyes. “That is not wrong...However, I find this naivite and innocence quite...Silly and amusing...If not, easily exploitable. Humans are creative and superstitious, therefore, we have all these silly stories, rituals and myths about ever little thing.” she said, getting back on the ground, sitting where she did just before. “You and I have very different views on these mortals, clearly.” he scoffed once again, looking away. “Mayhaps you just have too many emotions stored up inside your heart. Take some time from the world, focus on yourself, and relax. Look at the sky, appreciate the myriads of shades and colours it is painted with, and listen to the lullabies and hymns the nature is singing to you. Come on, Sessh. Sit down, breathe and enjoy life.” Y/N looked up at him with a sweet smile, as she held his hand and urged him to sit down next to her once again. “Does anyone in your clan take themselves seriously?” he gritted his teeth for a second, before sitting down next to the girl, only sparing her a glance with the corner of his eyes. “Only when necessary. Life is beautiful and it’s meant to be lived and enjoyed, and sometimes, it’s the little, insignificant details that matter - Those that are often overlooked...For example, were you born with your markings? I noticed you your father doesn’t have the same crescent moon on his forehead as you do...And your side lines are different in number and colours.” she asked, leaning on his side, putting her chin on his shoulder. “I was. All nobles have different markings...And the crescent moon is from my mother. You?” he felt himself warming up a bit to the girl, that he asked about her without even realising. “We aren’t born with them, they start appearing, only to girls, with years going. As you see, mine are still pale, but my mother’s are a brilliant shade of red. They reach that colour when we reach maturity, which is a sign we can marry. And...They are always different, depending on our personality. My mama is more gentle and soft...I’m more playful and mischievous.” she closed her eyes for a few seconds, before turning them on again. “That much is obvious.” the silver haired boy nodded, as if he already realised that long ago.
Giggling in amusement, she took out a leaf, and with a poof of smoke, Sesshomaru found himself with another version of himself leaning on his side, which made him look at the fox demon with an unphased look on his face.
“Fascinating power...If only you would not forget the leaf on your head.” he smirked, taking off the leaf from her head. “What?!” she gasped, which only made her turn back to herself, her green eyes widening like a little, surprised fawn. “It is rather weird seeing myself in front of me...It would be rather entertaining to see a successful trick like this, without forgetting the leaf. A very deadly weapon as well.” he informed, giving her the leaf back. “Is this how you do your tricks?” “Yes...I have a ton of leaves with me at all times...Ahh, I was sure I took out the leaf this time, how miserable!” she sighed, pouting, which earned a soft chuckle from the boy. “You are young, Y/N. Much younger than me still. There is enough time for you to stop forgetting that leaf...And to show me when you’ve perfected it.” he put his hand on her head, patting it. “Ehhh~? So that means you can’t wait to see me again! What a pleasant coincidence~!” she grinned teasingly, leaning o him. “Don’t push your luck.” he shot her a look of warning, but she obviously didn’t care.
Instead of replying, she got her hand inside of her kimono, taking out a flute and she began playing a magical melody that she learnt from her mother, that has been passed down through generations from her grandmother and so on, yet nobody knows who created it and how long has it been since someone was first taught it.
Sesshomaru closed his eyes, letting the back of his head rest on the bark of the Willow, allowing the song to create an atmosphere of complete bliss and serenity, and as the Sun set down, disappearing so that the Moon could take its place. The Moonlight was creating the illusion of diamonds floating, dazzling on the sheen of the mirror-like water, while the fire flies were flying around like small Will’o’Wisps dancing together in the gentle Spring breeze.
For the first time, so far, the silver haired Dog Demon princeling understood what it’s like to relax and take in the beauty of the moment, and for the next 500 years, he has been courting her, in his own way...Albeit not too often, for they were both very busy with their training and life in general, for they will be Lords, after all.
Unfortunately, this serendipity didn’t last too long for either of them, for Sesshomaru’s father went to another woman, a human that he loved and even had a child with...A half-demon...And in return, to keep them safe, Toga died, and with that, Kasai’s heart as well, for his best friend perished in vain.
As soon as Inu no Taisho died, Sesshomaru couldn’t be the Lord and reign with an iron fist, for he was still too young and inexperienced, despite the fighting he had done by his father’s side, which lead to a riot in both the Northern and the Western parts of Japan...
And Kasai died protecting his people.
From fear, Moeru ran away with her daughter, away from the mess, from the enemies, from the ill-will, from the bittersweet memories, from all the danger that wound cause her little Y/N any harm, so they took refuge to the Southern Lord, who gracefully welcomed them and offered his condolences.
It all went down in a flash, but her mother died from suffering so much over her husband’s death, leaving the poor girl all alone in this world, a young maiden out there, fighting to regain her birth right and take down the people who took away her lovely family from her, and killing them with no mercy or second thoughts, she managed to get the throne back, and now, she was the Lord of the Northern Japan and nobody dared go against her again.
She wasn’t sure how many centuries passed since she had a normal day, back when things were so much easier and when she could properly enjoy the beauty and art that her people had ingrained in their blood since the beginning of their making.
Nobody dared get on her territory without her consent, knowing they would get crushed by her and her blazing Fox Fire...
That is, until a silver haired boy with fluffy ears and a few companions come by, seeking shelter, and cause a commotion, as expected of them, and as they started fighting the intimidating guardians of the land, a luxurious woman with long hair, burning like the Twilight Sun, her long, nine tails spreading around her just like the flaming sky, her jade-like eyes piercing them like the harshest wind blade. Her face, despite the seductive, almost Geisha-like look, given by her pale skin and red markings, held a cold ruthlessness that seemed to drain the blood from the humans’ faces.
As soon as the half-demon took out his large sword and did a wind attack, the girl jumped on it, crouching down on the other end of the blade, her hands inside the opposite sleeves, looking at him with a taunting smirk.
“What’s your name, kid? What kind of animal demon are you? I have seen no half-demons in a very long while...Or, well, one that looks as cute as you, that is.” she giggled mysteriously, earning an angry growl from him. “What’s it to you, huh?! Why do you care about us?! They attacked us first!” he swung his blade again, only to get burnt by her fire, his sword kicked out of his hand, far away, and him, flat on his back, with her foot on his neck. “You are on my territory. My kingdom. Without permission. State your business and I will decide whether or not to forgive your intrusion...For your crew doesn’t seem to be harmful.” her voice became much darker and harsher, putting pressure on his neck. “We are sorry for the intrusion, miss! We are looking for shelter, we didn’t know this was your land. We are all human here, clueless about most of the demon business. My name is Kagome, this is Miroku, Sango...That is Inuyasha, and these are Shippo and Kirara.” the brunette girl in a weird attire spoke with feign confidence, making Y/N’s eyes widen slightly, leaving the half-demon and going to her, bending down slightly to get to her eye-level. “Kagome, Kagome...Who is behind you, bird in the cage? Yes, I always told him, humans are interesting indeed...And you look at that, you have a little Fox demon with you, how adorable...But you’re so tiny...Can you even transform, little one?” she asked the kid who stood with a shy expression on the brunet’s shoulder. “O-Of course I can! Look, I can be even you!” he tried to sound mature, transforming into the woman in front of him...Only for her to start laughing mirthfully. “Perfect transformation! ...Except for the leaf.” she grinned, picking the leaf from his head. “Ah...! Damn it, I was sure I took it off! I always forget to do take it away!” he whined in disbelief. “Don’t worry, little Shippo. When I was young like you, I used to forget the leaf all the time. Well... Stopped after meeting someone...But that doesn’t matter now.” she chuckled, letting the kid jump in her arms. “When you are so many centuries old, you tend to forget about the little mistakes you used to do when you were just a little snowdrop.” Y/N’s voice was so much calmer and gentler now, soothing like a mother’s lullaby to her child, and her voice seemed to ease everyone in the crew as well. “Tsk...Maybe you’re not such a bad chick. Since you asked, I am a Dog Demon. Why are you so interested in that?” he scoffed, still glaring at the woman as he got up on his feet. “You...Are a...Well, that explains it, you look so much like him...” she muttered, looking away into the horizon with a nostalgic smile. “Him? Someone who looks like InuYasha...?” Kagome’s eyes widened in realisation. “The only one who comes in mind would be...Sesshomaru...?” Sango questioned, unsure of herself. “I wouldn’t have expected humans to know someone like Sesshomaru. I haven’t seen him since before InuYasha was born and I was just a child. How long has it been...800 years ago maybe?” Y/N gave a satisfied, kitten-like smile, earning shocked gasps from everyone. “Well, we know him because he attacked InuYasha...But how do you know him for so long?” Kagome asked, blinking in curiosity. “Oh, well...I am his fiance.” she laughed, very amused at them falling to the ground in shock. “When we were both children, our fathers wanted us to marry, so from our marriage, the Northern and Western Japan would be united and peaceful. They wanted no more wars and disputes, so this was the perfect idea. They were best friends, so they had absolute faith in each other...” she explained, guiding them towards her castle. “Wait, so...What happened?” Shippo asked from her shoulder. “...Inuyasha was born.” she muttered, looking down for a few seconds, then back up ahead. “Huh?! What the hell do I have to do with that?!” he spit out in annoyance. “Your father died to protect you and your mother. Because of that, there was no more Lord in the West, so Sesshomaru had to do something about it, and with that, wars and riots started happening in the West, trying to overthrow my Clan...And my father died to protect us...Which means I haven’t seen him in over 200 years. I’m not blaming you, obviously, but I use some things as year bornes to remember things chronologically. Immortality can get confusing and tedious sometimes.” she laughed, a natural, mirthful laugh, just like her father used to, as she showed them inside the castle. “Woaw...So, that means you are the Leader of the West?” Kagome asked, very excited. “Yes, I suppose I am, and have been for quite a while. Took a while to take back my throne from those usurpers, but...None is alive to tell the tale of betrayal. Anyway, if you want to stay over, you will have to join me for a cup of tea and tell me the reason of your journey together and your personal stories. You are all incredibly different and unique...There must be something that brought you together.” she flashed them a mischievous smirk, before welcoming them inside.
They told the Kitsune about the destruction of the Shikon no Tama, which shocked her, until she found out about this Naraku who is creating chaos everywhere and destroying the peace and harmony of the world, that was already in shambles enough as if was.
Easily agreeing to help them with anything they needed, she made plans on how to aid them while also taking care of her kingdom, which was her priority, first and foremost.
She thought awhile on what the best course of action would be, and protecting the West from threats like Naraku was the best course of action, and thus, despite going on an aimless journey, she found a treasure that she would have never expected to stumble upon.
A little girl, brunet, wearing an orange kimono and walking barefoot, humming a cute little tune and picking berries, while a green gremlin, half her height, was nagging her with a greatly annoying voice that she paid no mind to.
Y/N leaned on a tree, watching the scene with a smile, realising that he was no harm to her - surprisingly, that is - Until their peace was destroyed by a numerous gang of large and fearsome demons ran towards them, growling, clearly wanting to mangle and eat them.
Tsk-ing in annoyance realising that the little demon was close to useless, despite the fire-breathing staff he had as a weapon, he was trembling even more than the frightened young girl, which lead Y/N to take action. With a speed that could barely be caught with the human eye, she made her claws elongate and easily slashed through the enemies without even the littlest effort.
When she was done with the group of thugs, Y/N stepped in front of the scared little girl, crouched down to her level, and pet her long brunette hair, giving her a gentle smile.
“Don’t worry, they are gone now.” she spoke in a soothing voice, making the girl quickly wipe the tears brimmed in her eyes, and returning a sweet smile. “Miss, you were amazing, you saved us! Thank you so much!” her voice was so adorable and filled with glee and gratitude. “I’m glad I was here when needed. What were you doing here? There is no human village around. You saw what happened just now, and that this gremlin here is rather useless, as you saw. Not to mention, staying around a demon is pretty dangerous in itself.” she giggled with a shady smirk, making the girl laugh as well. “Oh, but I’m not alone, and I’m not afraid of demons! Lord Sesshomaru saved me and took care of me! He always protects me, but now, he was away to investigate, so he let Jaken take care of me.” as soon as the girl mentioned that familiar name with such leisure, the Fox girl’s jaw dropped to the ground in shock, her green eyes widened as never before. “You...You said...Sesshomaru...? He’s here? Really?!” the woman jumped to her feet, as if electrified, which made the green gremlin shriek at her. “It’s LORD Sesshomaru for you, you filthy wench! How dare you address him with such disrespect?!” his voice was grating her brain so bad that she was barely stopping herself from kicking him into the horizon. “I will speak to him however I please. I gained that right long ago. About five centuries ago, in fact.” she spoke in a smug voice, crossing her arms, digging her claws into the material of her kimono, clearly waiting for the Dog Demon to return.
And return he did, and much faster then she expected, descending from the sky gracefully, his amber eyes holding the same harsh and cold gaze, as he hurried and examined the woman that seemed to hold no hostile will.
“Lord Sesshomaru, you’re back! This lady saved us from a bunch of ugly demons that tried to eat us!” the little girl ran to the man with a wide grin, which made the Fox Demon put her hand to her mouth, stifling a chuckle. “I see. I thank you for saving Rin’s life, despite being a demon yourself.” he walked in front of her, obviously trying to analyse her. “Lord Sesshomaru...Is that what they call you, even now? And what are you, Lord over nothingness? Wandering the world for two centuries in a journey to find yourself, while I had to fight with blood, fire and tears to regain my throne from the usurpers. If I didn’t know better, Sessh, I would say you have become rather...Lazy?” Y/N she gave him a mocking, seductive look, letting her nine tails spread around her, circling him and occasionally turning around. “I don’t quite appreciate the greeting you are giving me, Y/N.” he spoke in a deadpan voice, although she knew he was anything but annoyed as he wanted to be seen. “I did not quite appreciate you not coming to see me in the last two hundred years, you know? You weren’t there to see my markings turning red, either. And on many other occasions. And now...No hugs, no kisses, no affection? That is rather pitiful from you, my darling.” she chuckled, jabbing at him to see how far she could push him. “D-Darling?! Who do you think you are?! What gives you the RIGHT to speak like that to Lord Sesshomaru?! I will make you pay for your impudence!” Jaken ran to hit the woman with her staff, but using on of her tails, she tripped him, making Rin laugh at his misfortune. “She is Y/N, Lord of the Fox Demon clan, ruler of the West. She has earned the right to speak so freely with me.” the silver haired man informed the two, not taking his eyes away from her green eyes that enticed him as always. “You are forgetting another very important title~.” she stepped forward, leaning her elbow on his shoulder, reaching her other hand up to boop his nose. “...And my fiancee.” he grumbled, catching her wrist before she could do what she pleased. “WHAAAAAAAT?! L-Lord Sesshomaru...Why have you never told me you were married...?!” Jacked started crying rivers, while Rin was cheering, extra happy. “I did. Many years ago, when I was trying to escape the pressure of the Lord of the East to marry his daughter.” Sesshomaru spoke, barely bothering with his lackey. “Awww, so you thought of me, how adorable! I am flattered.” she chuckled, hooking her arm to the man, who didn’t seem to protest...Too much.
They started walking, looking for a place to camp for the night, Y/N putting the wood on fire for Rin to roast the food, so when the Twilight started creeping, she started looking around for a lake to bathe, and thankfully, she did. Discarding her outfit, she stepped in the cool water, shivering a bit at the temperature difference, before relaxing and taking out her flute to play.
She hasn’t played since the last night she saw him, and now that she has him close to her again, she can feel at ease playing again. Without even realising, she played the tune she played for Sesshomaru when they first met each other.
The lake wasn’t as beautiful as the one back home, but the moonlight was just as silver, the water was just as crystalline and the fireflies were glowing like little fairies...Just like home.
In the middle of her song, she heard the ruffling of bushes, which made her jump to her feet in full alert, her tails wrapping around her to hide her naked body. Easing her fears, glowing from the light of Mother Moon, Sesshomaru walked towards her, not sparing her a glance until he got to the water to his waist, approaching her, as she stepped back, looking away with a blush.
“Uhm...Sesshomaru, hello. What...Are you doing here?” she gave a nervous chuckle, pulling her tails closer to her body. “I came to bathe, just like you. Do you have anything against me being here?” he pushed her with his words, looking at her with that intimidating gaze of his. “No, of course not! You can bathe here too, obviously.” she flashed a quick, embarrassed smile that disappeared as fast as it came. “You are blushing. Are you...Flustered, by chance? Is my presence here making a Fox like you nervous, per chance?” he teased her, barely able to contain his smirk of amusement. “...A bit.” she muttered, taking another step back. “You act completely different from earlier. Not very Fox-like of you, is it?” he teased her, getting in front of her, lifting her chin up to look at him. “We are indecent...And you are my fiance. We haven’t...Seen each other before. You can’t blame me for feeling nervous.” she muttered, averting her gaze from his. “You worry too much.” Sesshomaru let out an amused breathe, before leaning in, brushing his lips to hers. “I missed you.” he ushered, as he kissed her softly.
It felt like the time stopped for the girl, she felt like lightning struck her and the energy was surging through her bloodstream, blushing even more as she melted into the kiss and let herself feel, kissing back with more passion and fire, resting her hands on his shoulder to bring him closer to her. Her tails seemed to have a will of their own, slowly uncoiling themselves from her body, and wrapping around his, staying glued together, skin to skin, feeling ablaze with every touch.
“How did you end up so far away from home?” he asked, brushing his fingers through her long, fire hair. “Your brother and his little group of friends found their way in my territory. They told me about this Naraku foe they must defeat, and the destroyed Jewel...And I I thought that if I killed him, he would be a threat to my people no more...Moreover, they mentioned seeing you a few times, so it was worth trying to find you...I missed you as well, dearly.” she sighed, looking down, resting her head on his chest, enjoying the warmth she was feeling from his embrace, after so long. “You don’t have to worry anymore, I’m not going to disappear again. They are right, Naraku is a threat...That we will eliminate. When this is all done, we will be able to fulfill our parents’ wishes. We will have peace, and...You will be the most beautiful bride.” his voice was soft, just as back then, many years ago, when he was courting her. “I will wear a pink kimono, not the boring white one. I have style, clearly...Although I’m not sure pink suits me too much, considering what an intense shade of red my hair is. There’s no contrast.” she smiled, purring softly as he started playing with her hair. “It suits you very much...Although I am curious why you always chose this particular colour...Even now, and back then, when I first laid my eyes upon you and your shyness was just as it is now.” he asked, planting a kiss on her forehead. “Because it has always been my mum’s favourite colour since she was little...And she also married in a pink kimono. I guess I felt connected with this, just like I was with her.” she grinned nostalgically, which in turn, earned a soft smile from him as well. “I see. Then we will do as you wish.” he nodded, putting his hand or the back of her head, pulling her closer to him. “Sessh...?” Y/N looked up at him, her eyes glossy and warm, like that of a fawn. “Yes, Y/N?” he muttered, looking down at her. “I love you.” her voice was so soft and gentle, yet filled with so many emotions. “I love you as well, Y/N.” after a brief silence, Sesshomaru answered, ignoring the wall of coldness and properness that he instilled in himself. “Let’s defeat this Naraku and go home.” she leaned her head back on his chest, looking as relaxed and content, just like back then, when they first visited the lake. “That, we will. I promise.”

last song: Dinner and Diatribes by Hozier, i encourage everyone to watch the music video
last movie: Either Oculus or Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2, can’t remember
last series: The Book of Boba Fett, but I’ll watch old crime shows in the background while I do art
sweet, spicy, or savory: Sweet, 100%. Oreos will be my downfall.
coffee or tea: Iced tea, I down that shit by the gallon, especially if it’s peach flavor.
three ships: My current hyperfixation is Dinluke, but I’ve had a long relationship with Obikin (both platonic and romantic) and Bagginshield.
first ever ship: I think it had to have been Kagome/Inuyasha from Inuyasha
currently working on: Mostly just my silly little daily posts, but I have a ficlet I have saved as ‘Dinluke: Luke deserves nice things.’
favourite piece of clothing: Either my ugly old bomber jacket I got from goodwill, or my grey hoodie that says “Horror Movie Addict.” I tend to wear them together anyway.
comfort food: Macaroni and cheese, the boxed kind. I don’t need your actual food, get outta here with your four cheese nonsense.
favourite time of the year: The part of summer where you can lie in a patch of sunlight without getting heatstroke. Yes, I am a cat. Yes, I have gotten heatstroke from napping in the sun. Yes, it is as humiliating as it sounds.
fav fanfiction: I’ve gone through so many fandoms over the years that this is a terrifying question, but currently I’ve been rereading @thewriterowl’s fics on repeat because doing a reread of some of my favorite shit is a nice way to wind down after People And Work. Current fav: Where Hope is Persevering and hanging on to every update of All the Shadows We Bestow. But if you want short and sweet @positivityjediprince‘s headcanons and snippets are fab and a great way to spend your time.
And a thank you to @thewriterowl for tagging me; I appreciate someone wanting to know stupid shit about me.
Who do I tag? Did @veradragonjedi get tagged yet? I could tag @positivityjediprince again just to be irritating (one of my hallmark qualities.)

Yashahime Translation: Prince Animage May 2021 Issue (Part 2)
Please do not repost this translation without my consent! This includes screenshots of any type and amount. If you wish to share this translation, simply link to this post.
For more information regarding the use of my translations, click here.
Due to the amount of content in the magazine, I have decided to the split the translation into three parts:
Part 1: Elder Son’s Resolve! Interview with Director Satou Teruo
Part 2: We Won’t Give Up On the Future! Father-Daughter Round-Table Talk with Narita Ken, Matsumoto Sara, and Komatsu Mikako
Part 3: The Strength to Overcome Destiny. Interview with Director Satou Teruo
Intertwining Fates
The curtains on the Yashahimes’ story briefly closed with the shocking scene of “Setsuna’s death”. With Towa and the others at its center, the complexly intertwined fates of various people continue into the second chapter (season).
The fire that tore Towa and Setsuna apart, the Dream Butterfly that stole Setsuna’s slumber, the sleeping Rin, and the Rainbow Pearls that possess demonic power; all these things that became key to the story were connected to Kirinmaru’s elder sister, Zero.
Zero previously heard the Shikon Jewel’s prophecy: “An existence that is neither demon nor human and can cross through time will destroy Kirinmaru.” Thinking that it refers to Towa, Setsuna, Moroha, and Inuyasha, Zero tried to eliminate them in order to protect her younger brother. However, that was just an ostensible reason. Behind her actions lurked a feeling of jealousy towards the half-demons and quarter-demon that carried the Dog General’s blood. It seems her unrealized love for the Dog General was the motivation behind her twisted emotions and actions.
Zero’s behavior rouses Kirinmaru’s anger and she disappears from his sight. However, the story does not end with just this issue being settled. As part of the “Rite of Courage and Cowardice”, Towa and the others end up having to fight Kirinmaru and unbelievably, Setsuna loses her life during the battle.
There is a heap of other issues such as Rin who still continues to sleep even now and the Grim Comet that has appeared in the modern era. It is now an anxious wait for the broadcasting to see how future mysteries will be unraveled in the second chapter (season).
Character Bios
Zero Kirinmaru’s elder sister. She was in love with the Dog General. Being that she was the one who created the Rainbow Pearls, she went to go look for the scattered pearls after her breakdown with Kirinmaru.
Kirinmaru The beast king of the eastern lands. Irritated by his elder sister, Zero’s, misconduct towards Sesshōmaru, they part ways as brother and sister as a result. He battles the three (Towa, Setsuna, Moroha) and kills Setsuna.
Sesshōmaru The son of the beast king who once stood on the same level as Kirinmaru, the Dog General, and Towa and Setsuna’s father. It seems he is searching for a child named Akuru but the reason why is unknown.
Higurashi Towa She treasures her younger twin sister, Setsuna, above all else. As she grieves over Setsuna’s death, she receives a broken Tenseiga from her father, Sesshōmaru… …?
Setsuna A half-demon whose sleep and memories were stolen by the Dream Butterfly. She loses her life while battling Kirinmaru but just before drawing her last breath, she calls Towa “Towa-neechan”.
Moroha Towa and Setsuna’s cousin. Despite being enraged by Setsuna’s death, when she turned into Beniyasha, she was able to maintain her (sound) mind and not get overwhelmed by the rampage of her demonic blood.
The Offense and Defense Concerning Half-Demons
Zero has attempted to eliminate the half-demons that carry the Dog General’s blood by doing things such as spurring Kirinmaru to kill Inuyasha or burning the forest that Towa and Setsuna were hiding in. Sesshōmaru was always by her side. Though he does not say much, Sesshōmaru may have seen through Zero’s intentions early and acted one step ahead.
Rin and Zero’s Connection
Zero can connect to others via “fate” and control them as she pleases. Those whose fates are connected to Zero will die alongside her should she lose her life. It seems Zero herself connected her fate to Rin and used that to keep Sesshōmaru in check. The details on how Rin and Zero’s fates were intertwined is of interest.
That Which Sesshōmaru Searches For
Sesshōmaru is someone who never appeared on the story’s center stage for long. During that time, he was searching for a child named Akuru. It seems that the pinwheel Akuru holds is somehow connected to the giant “Windmill of Time”. After Akuru appeared before Sesshōmaru, the Windmill of Time that had not moved for so long moved again but what does that mean… …?
Setsuna’s Seal
Zero wants Kirinmaru to exterminate Towa and the others but Kirinmaru, preferring to fight fair and square, realizes the difference in strength between him and the girls and decides to hold off battling them until they have grown (in strength). It is there that Zero forcefully releases the seal placed on Setsuna’s demon blood so that Kirinmaru will fight Towa and the others seriously.
A Broken Tenseiga
The Tenseiga that Sesshōmaru carries is a sword of healing that was created from the fang of the Dog General and is known as “the sword that saves the lives of the weak”. Sesshōmaru resurrects the dead Zero with Tenseiga but that enrages Zero and she breaks the blade. Will the broken Tenseiga be able to revive Setsuna who has lost her life?
Famous Quote Pick Up!
The role of Sesshōmaru, Narita Ken “Anymore will sadden Rin”
“Personally, the monologue in episode 24 “Anymore will sadden Rin…” struck me. Even though Sesshōmaru doesn’t show kindness, periodically he will suddenly say something like this. On top of that, he doesn’t even put a lot of emotion into it and it just comes out nonchalantly. I think that‘s what’s good about him.” (Narita)
The role of Higurashi Towa, Matsumoto Sara “We’re not alone now.”
“(the line) At the end of episode 16 “We’re not alone now.” I felt was just like Towa. She says that to Moroha but of course Setsuna is among those she’s thinking of. Towa came to the feudal era for Setsuna’s sake she has always held the feeling of “It’s okay because Setsuna is here” at her core. The strength of her unwaveringness really shows when the three of them are backed into a corner.” (Matsumoto)
The role of Setsuna, Komatsu Mikako “You can always change the way you live”
“The phrase in episode 16 “You can always change the way you live” left an impression on me. Even though Setsuna is a half-demon, she’s quite farsighted (philosophically) for a 14-year-old. I think her environment up until now and the blood that flows within her makes her that way. Having passed episode 20 which depicted Setsuna’s past, I once again feel how powerful this phrase is.” (Komatsu)
We Won’t Give Up on the Future! Father-Daughter Cast Round Table Discussion
Role of Higurashi Towa: Matsumoto Sara Role of Setsuna: Komatsu Mikako Role of Sesshōmaru: Narita Ken
Demanding “A Sense of Smell” From Playing Sesshōmaru
— Since this is after the recording of episode 23 today (the day of the interview), thank you all for your hard work!
Matsumoto: Thank you! You see, today is actually the first time I recorded with Narita-san for “Hanyō no Yashahime”. It’s like “we finally meet” kind of feeling and I’m very happy!
Narita: Finally, it was our first father-daughter meeting! I look forward to doing this interview together.
Komatsu: Likewise, I look forward to working with you as well. Narita-san went straight into recording episode 24 (the final episode) right after recording episode 23. The last episode is next week for us, but we read the script and it was completely shocking… …!
— The final episode had an ending that really made you wonder about the future. Having traversed through the story up to this point, what is everyone’s state of mind right now?
Matsumoto: After episode 20, going into the final stage, the vigor of the story increased. For viewers, I think their theories up to now were all overturned at one point. We also started recording not knowing what was going to happen in the future, so we progressed through recording while talking about “What’s going to happen next?” every time. It was a continuation of surprises. Just when I thought we finally got to interact with our father in episode 23, this time, something like that happens to Setsuna… … I was shocked like “To think they would end it like this!” and I immediately started thinking about how the second chapter (season) would connect from here. My current thought is that as I look forward to the second chapter (season), I want to rewatch season 1 one more time before the broadcasting (for season 2) begins.
Komatsu: Back when I didn’t know what was going to happen, when I asked the staff “How is season 1 going to end and what’s going to happen in season 2?”, they told me “Most of the questions that the viewers have will be answered in season 1. Around the last episode of season 1, you might be able to record with everyone in the Higurashi family again.” That’s why in my (mind), I had my hopes up like “I wonder if in the final episode, the whole Kirinmaru situation and Rin’s sleep would all be resolved and Setsuna and the others go to the modern era again, and in season 2 the three Yashahimes would start a happy school life?”
Everyone: (laughs)
Komatsu: And then it went in a completely different direction! Just when I thought the story was connecting in a line, there’s suddenly more questions. There’s still many unanswered mysteries and in the second chapter (season), what will happen (in regards to the those mysteries) … while having that anticipation, as Setsuna, I want her to be revived as soon as possible. In the Inuyasha world, you get pushed down many times, no matter what, and those intense developments where you fight as you climb back up are a distinct characteristic. Hence, I look forward to those intense developments in the second chapter (season)!
Narita: I don’t like calculating future developments and then think “I’ll do this part like this” so I go into the recordings without knowing the upcoming story or the movement of the characters as much as possible. Besides, it feels more fun to go into it without knowing the story. As such, all I use is my sense of smell. In this work, it feels like I’m using my sense of smell 1,000 times more than usual. That’s just how much concentration is needed, and I feel that this work is very stimulating in more ways than one.
— It seems that Sesshōmaru himself moves knowing what Kirinmaru and Zero are after but Narita-san, you were acting without knowing the upcoming development I see.
Narita: That’s right. Sound director Nagura Yasushi-san asked me “Would you like me to give you something that explains how things will turn out?” but I purposely declined. If I found out, it felt as though unnecessary emotions would come out of my voice. When I act, I aim for the middle between “Lines written in the script as is” and “my own considerations” like “It probably goes like this right?”.
Komatsu: Even though I think Sesshōmaru probably knows everything, his lines have various components mixed into them, so I always get a sense of “I wonder?”.  That’s why as a fan, I love speculating that marginal aspect.
Matsumoto: I’m the same way. (His lines) always leave room for pondering.
Komatsu: He doesn’t speak much to begin with, but I think it’s just like father to not say everything within those few words. Watching Narita-san record in person today, I was moved by how Sesshōmaru’s nuances were expressed with such finesse.
Narita: As expected, you two are “Inuyasha” fans (laughs). But it really is difficult. He won’t say things with words after all. Although, he would just become a boring man if he said everything. I think he himself knows everything, but suppresses giving out the answer and just highlights it a little bit… that kind of moderation is important. I’m always conscious of this when I act but it’s tough after all. I only have a few lines so I have this feeling of “If I mess these words up, when is the next time (I speak)?”. That’s why I act with this feeling of “I’m going to put everything into these words” every time.
— Narita-san, how did you feel when you first heard about the “Hanyō no Yashahime” project?
Narita: I never thought they would revive “Inuyasha” in this form. If they were going to do it, I thought naturally Inuyasha would be the center of the story. The setting of Sesshōmaru’s children being the main characters never crossed my mind. I thought something like that would be impossible and I wondered about a lot of things like “Then who’s the mother?”.  Rin (being the mother) was unexpected.
— It was unexpected?
Narita: I didn’t think he would ever touch upon that. I wanted to shake Sesshōmaru’s shoulders like “This isn’t like you~!” (laughs).
Komatsu: Love sprouted!
Narita: How do I put it, love is something far off to Sesshōmaru… I even think he had kids because he probably had some kind of objective.
— In other words, not because he wanted to create a family?
Narita: That might be true for Inuyasha, but for Sesshōmaru, I think there was an experimental aspect to it like “What sort of chemical reaction would happen in my heart if I had kids”. After all, I don’t think it’s necessary for him to be a dad.
Komatsu: Sesshōmaru certainly does seem like he would have that kind of desire to “want to know”.
— Then how did you feel when you saw the girls?
Narita: “Ah, so this is what they’re like” is what I thought. I thought they were brave, healthy looking kids. When color was added to the characters, I felt there were aspects similar to Sesshōmaru. But you know, the shock that he had daughters really is big. It was like “Will the Sesshōmaru up until now fall apart?” “I don’t want him to start ogling”. It was a little complicated there. It's just that it’s true that in the story of “Inuyasha”, he gradually showed his affection for Rin. In that case, something close to that may also bud for his daughters and that too may become a new appeal for him.
Reenacting Sesshōmaru’s Solitude for the Final Recording
— It’s been 20 years since the time of “Inuyasha” but Narita-san, do you remember the time you met Sesshōmaru?
Narita: I did not get the role of Sesshōmaru through auditioning. It seems there were actual auditions, but they couldn’t come to a decision, so they had Takahashi Rumiko-sensei, the author of the original work, listen to the voice samples of various candidates. It was there that Rumiko-sensei picked me is how the story goes. Until then, I did not have many appearances in anime works, so I think there are many young people who recognize me for my role as Sesshōmaru. I also felt that things changed after I played Sesshōmaru. That’s why to me, his existence is very big.
— His looks are androgynous but his voice is deep, so in the beginning, there may have been people who felt an element of surprise from that.
Narita: When I first saw his character appearance, I remember thinking he was woman dressed in a furisode. That’s why during the first test, I used a higher pitched voice. Like the pretty boy voice so to speak.  Then, the sound director at the time, Tsuruoka Yōta-san told me “Please make it deeper”. I lowered my voice while thinking “What?” yet he still said “Deeper” … That’s why it was very hard in the beginning. It was to the point that I thought “I can’t keep going like this!”.  That’s why I raised my voice just a little bit at time so that it wasn’t noticeable. Otherwise, I felt that I couldn’t express (things). When I did that, it gradually became easier.
Matsumoto: So that’s how it was.
Narita: Although, there was a trigger behind that. At one point, I received a letter from someone who was a fan of the work and it seemed that the Sesshōmaru that person imagined was a certain voice actor who was very popular at the time. When I read that, I thought “Whaaat!” (laughs). But if that’s the case, I thought “It’s fine if I do this more freely” and my shoulders relaxed instantly, and I felt better.
—  As in acting in a way that only you can?
Narita: Yes, that’s why I’m grateful for that letter. It’s thanks to that that I was able to reach a turning point after all.
Komatsu: Meaning you broke through that “Sesshōmaru has to be like this” kind of (mentality). When I first heard Sesshōmaru’s voice in the animation, I was able to grasp that “This is what Sesshōmaru’s scariness was”. To begin with, his beauty and contrasting calmness pierced through me and I had this scary image of him from when I read the manga. However, the moment that became a voice, I really felt that it made it convincing. That’s why from the start in my mind, I couldn’t imagine anyone else for Sesshōmaru other than Narita-san. It’s the complete opposite of Inuyasha’s high tone and he’s calm. He felt like a true greater demon. His rank is much higher than Inuyasha’s and I could feel that sense of him being beyond anyone’s power.
Narita: Afterall, his father (the Dog General) was Ōtsuka Akio-san and his mother is Sakakibara Yoshiko-san. The parents were amazing, weren’t they?
Matsumoto: For sure, the whole family is strong… …!
Narita: But Sesshōmaru’s strength is that he doesn’t flinch even before such parents. Like he has his own world. I thought I really should (act) that part without wavering.
— How did it feel playing Sesshōmaru again for the first time in a while in “Hanyō no Yashahime”?
Narita: It’s been 20 years since “Inuyasha” and 10 years since “Inuyasha the Final Act” so that amount of time is pretty hefty. I thought I could do it instantly but when I tried, it felt off. I was bewildered like “I did this originally so why?”.  I started acting while doing my utmost to recall the feelings from back then, but it didn’t go well immediately and even I was surprised. The stronger the emotional attachment, the closer to myself I got and I thought “This is a human”. I kept comparing and adjusting many times like “Gotta change it back, gotta change it back”.
— So there’s a certain feeling when playing a demon.
Narita: That’s when I thought I probably focused a lot more back during “Inuyasha”. The onsite studio for “Inuyasha” had a peaceful atmosphere and I felt that I couldn’t let myself get caught up in the atmosphere. Stubbornly, I strongly made myself think “I am solitary”. Until I stood in front of the microphone, I would create Sesshōmaru inside myself and carry on as such until the end. That may have been what I was missing. That’s why at the recording of the final episode today, I purposely told the girls “I want you out”.
— In other words?
Narita: Just as I said earlier, I recorded episode 23 with the girls but I recorded the final episode alone. During that time, the girls waited for me (until the interview started) and they could’ve stayed in the booth but I purposely wanted to do it alone. It probably wouldn’t have changed much whether there was someone inside or not but how to put it, I wanted to get closer to the me back then, even just a little.
— I see.
Matsumoto: There’s certainly emphasis on recording with a small number of people right now, so it might be a difficult environment to face your role in. It’s pretty much you get to the studio, immediately voice the scenes you appear in, and then immediately go home when you’re done. Even as a newbie, I can feel it throwing off my rhythm somehow.
— So even bout scenes get (cut up) into small pieces then.
Matsumoto: I think if we had recorded with everyone together from the top, we could’ve created time for each of us to focus on our roles while feeling the flow of the story. I think there’s definitely something that can be built with everyone onsite. However, there’s difficulty from not having time to build that.
Komatsu: When you can feel the flow of the whole thing onsite, the feeling changes a little from when you’re reading the script at home. There are times where you realize things for the first time. But right now, we’re only doing our corresponding scenes, so things come up that we just can’t grasp. There is merit in just doing your turn in a short time, but it feels completely different from doing it with everyone.
— So there’s a challenge that comes from the Corona crisis.
Komatsu: The staff have shown consideration for us by making it possible for us to interact with each other as much as possible, so I’m grateful. While taking in consideration counter measures against spreading the virus, they adjusted it so that those voicing scenes with character conversations can record in the same booth together. Thanks to that, the cast of the three Yashahime were basically able to record together.
Narita: They were limiting it to around 3, 4 people at most. I recorded with Kirinmaru (Yoshimasa Hosoya-san) and Zero (Sakamoto Maaya-san) many times. Then there was Jaken-chan (Chō-san). Jaken was the same old Jaken and he made me think that I had to do my best without losing. I didn’t (record) together with my younger brother (Inuyasha played by Yamaguchi Kappei-san). Not that I want to meet him or anything.
Matsumoto: It’s Lord Sesshōmaru! (laughs)
Komatsu: Thank you! (laughs)
Narita: (laughs) Also, I was able to record together with Rin (Noto Mamiko-san) in episode 1. It felt as though Noto-san had matured a little bit. Her growth as a woman came through a little in her acting, which I thought was wonderful.
Matsumoto: Us daughters haven’t recorded with Noto-san but I just happened to be able to watch the recording for episode 15, so that’s when I greeted her. When I told her “I’m your daughter; thank you for giving birth to me” Noto-san was like “Oh my god~! My daughter~!”. But we had to maintain social distancing so we were both like “I can’t hug youuuu~!” (laughs).
Komatsu: I’m so jealous. I can picture that situation (laughs)
Concern about Setsuna’s life and Towa and Riku’s relationship
— In regard to Rin, it was revealed in episode 23 and 24 that her “fate” is connected to Zero. Matsumoto-san and Komatsu-san, as daughters, what do you think?
Komatsu: I thought “what a cruel fate”. While the feeling of wanting to hurry and meet mother face to face grows stronger, currently the only way to prolong Rin’s life is to keep her asleep, and it’s there that Setsuna’s Dream Butterfly is involved. All that is linked to Zero.
Matsumoto: It’s a negative chain where in order to get Setsuna’s sleep back, you have to kill Zero but doing so would also kill Rin. Towa wants Setsuna to be able to sleep but she still doesn’t know about that connection. She tried to sever that in the final episode, but the result was…
Komatsu:  Setsuna, who was never able to sleep, was finally able to sleep via death. It was such an ironic plot twist… …!
Matsumoto: Seriously, I thought “You’d write this kind of script!?”! (laughs) In the opening for cour 2, there’s a scene where Rin catches a falling Setsuna but I want them to hurry and do this scene in the main story.
Narita: Setsuna will be in season 2, right? We won’t be able to sleep in Setsuna’s place because we’re so curious.
Komatsu: I have faith that she’ll appear… … For that reason, I look forward to Towa’s efforts.
Matsumoto: I’ll do my best! At the end of the final episode, Sesshōmaru takes out a broken Tenseiga and says “Shall you try, Towa…”. That was the first time father said my name. Earlier, I watched Narita-san record from outside the booth and that was truly unforgettable. Seriously, I think it was a scene that entrusted a lot of things (to Towa) so I want to carve that voice into my heart and take on the recording for the final episode.
— In regard to Towa, her relationship with Riku is also of interest.
Matsumoto: You’re right. The scene where she told Riku “I like you!” really surprised me!
Komatsu: Love made up a large portion within the story of “Inuyasha” but “Hanyō no Yashahime” doesn’t have a love component to that level. It was a scene where you saw a small sign of that.
Matsumoto: For the line “I like you”, Nagura-san directed me before the recording “It is absolutely not fawning. Please don’t go in the LOVE (romantic) direction.” I think it was a refreshing emotion and that she liked Riku as a person type feeling. I was also told “It’s okay to show happiness when Towa sees Riku like ‘Oh it’s Riku’”. Even though she doesn’t think it’s (romantic) love, it seems she’s always had this perception of “Riku’s not a bad person” and I think what burst out from that was “I like you”. The fact that Riku hugged her was something that lingered with her into the next episode, and it was very memorable.
Narita: Riku… … he can’t be overlooked in many ways (laughs). This won’t do, I can’t let him live. I guess I should cut him down in a single stroke!
Matsumoto: Fatheeeeer!! (laughs)
Komatsu: Like “I won’t forgive anyone who make a move on my daughter” (laughs)
— Riku’s wellbeing will be something to pay attention to in season 2 (laughs). Lastly please give a message to our readers who are looking forward to the second chapter (season).
Komatsu: First off, there’s what’s going to happen to Setsuna. I’m sure Towa, who’s been entrusted with things, will revive her in the second chapter (season)… … Personally, I want to see father-daughter interaction and a reunion scene with mother. I also haven’t given up on my dream of an exciting modern era school life! Just once is fine but I want an episode where everyone goes to the modern era, wears a school uniform, and takes Kirin-sensei’s class. Having it end as “it was all just a dream” is fine too (laughs). I believe there are issues as well like Inuyasha and Kagome being trapped in the black pearl, so I hope everything is included in the second chapter (season)!
Narita: Indeed, when I think about what all is going to happen, I can’t help but be curious. Coming to episode 23, I recorded with the girls for the first time but how are things going to be between (Sesshōmaru) and the girls going forward? I’m also curious about the relationships with Inuyasha and Kirinmaru. I’m just like the viewers in that I want to enjoy each episode one at a time. I’m truly happy to have encountered this work. I would be happy if everyone continued supporting us.
Matsumoto: In terms of hopes, I want Setsuna to be revived immediately at the beginning of the second chapter (season)… … Even if that doesn’t happen, I want Setsuna to be revived as soon as possible. I think there will be new encounters getting there. At the end of season 1, there was a character named Akuru that appeared along with the keyword “Windmill of Time”. I’m excited to see how those will connect into the second chapter (season). Another thing I’m curious about is the promise that was made to Mei, “We’ll come back for sure”.
Komatsu: Oh yeah
Matsumoto: I do feel that I want to see a scene where Towa says “I’m home” to the Higurashi family… … but right now I don’t want to go back to the modern era! Need to revive Setsuna and clean up everything before that! Riku, Zero, and Kirinmaru might show some new movement in the second chapter (season). Please look forward to it without missing the details!
Q. Who did you think was Towa and Setsuna’s mother?
Narita: I thought it was Jaken (laughs).
Matsumoto: The Mama Jaken theory! (laughs)
Komatsu: Even among the fans, there was the Mama Jaken theory in the beginning (laughs).
Narita: Well, Jaken stays close to Sesshōmaru the most and knows him best. If love was going to sprout, it would’ve been from Jaken. Plus, he’s a full demon.
Matsumoto: Master Jaken really looks at Lord Sesshōmaru after all.
Komatsu: In actuality, Master Jaken was both the educator and caretaker, so his position was like a wet nurse.
Narita: He might’ve been breast feeding them periodically. Demons seem like they can do anything (laughs).
Komatsu: I think Master Jaken guessed what Lord Sesshōmaru was feeling and thought “What is my role…”.
Narita: He probably can’t be by Sesshōmaru’s side if he doesn’t have that kind of anticipation (laughs)
