God, there's something so horrifying about Johanna Constantine telling Dream that she'd heard rumors about the Burgess estate and how the Magus had, "The Devil locked up in his basement."
To her, it was just a rumor. To Dream, it is a reminder of the inhuman torment he suffered, but it's more than that.
Johanna Constantine hearing that rumor means that people knew where Dream was. Oh, they didn't necessarily know it was Dream. It was perfectly reasonable that the rumor would be treated as outlandish, that no one would piece together the absence of a mysterious figure like Dream and one ridiculous rumor about a "Magus" who was almost certainly a charlatan.
But from a survivor's perspective, from Dream's perspective, I think the tears in his eyes and the devastation are because it's so much worse to know that the clues to find him and save him were out there. That others heard rumors about the suffering he was going through, but that no one followed up on them. No one out there searched for him. No one tried to help.
(The one friend that tried was murdered for it, in front of him, and he had to sit alone with that grief, without hope, for years.)
It would be better to emerge from that living hell to hear that no one, anywhere, had any idea where he was. It would be better than to hear that his suffering was known, or possible to know had someone just looked a little deeper, and that no one did.

They are children, Sansa thought. They are silly little girls, even Elinor. They've never seen a battle, they've never seen a man die, they know nothing. Their dreams were full of songs and stories, the way hers had been before Joffrey cut her father's head off. Sansa pitied them. Sansa envied them

Finished my Kenobi rewatch and it really stood out to me that when Obi-Wan turns up to their date fight with his Force powers back, Anakin/Vader must have been ecstatic. Like finally, finally a decent fight, with mocking and banter and showing off, and getting his ass kicked and taught a lesson, saber on saber, hand to hand. Imagine how good and right that feels compared to getting tortured by Palpatine.
Vader is so caught up in it all he even slips up and calls Obi-Wan Master. No wonder he screams in protest when Obi-Wan leaves.

There's a part of me that wants MWPP to have built a treehouse in the forbidden forest, just to have a secret place to go to that's just theirs (because the shack is different, it just is.) It's all cobbled together out of spare wood they found and bits of the shack that moony ripped up and the ladder is crooked and there's a little overhang where they'd stand to have literal pissing matches ("Bet I can hit that tree" "Yeah? Bet I can hit your mum") and there's things all carved in the trunk that are mostly worn away with weather and time, but inside -- inside is where the magic is.
There's full on conversations all over the walls, written in black ink. Graffiti immortalizing these four asshole teens in all their immature glory. Outlines of their bodies on the floor, and Remus had drawn X's for eyes and a frowny face on his. Someone drew an impressive rack of antlers on James. Someone else drew an impressive rack on Peter. (Below the left one there's a line that says "fuck u Sirius" and below that another that says "get in line xx") and there's the remnants of a dart board, holes dotting the wall around it, and there's a scoreboard that isn't for the darts but rather for the number of times one of them punched James in the nuts (Sirius was winning)
(James was also inexplicably on the board, with many question marks around his name)
And it's just this glorified lean to stuck up in a tree but there's so much history there -- so much stupid humor -- that Harry has to catch his breath when he stumbles across it, starts reading. Starts laughing at the notes reading "here lies James Potter, ripped a fart during Charms and died of embarrassment" / "THAT WAS YOU HAHAHAHA"
And it's all covered in moss and dead leaves and the ghosts of dead men and Harry preserves it anyway because it was proof they were alive, they were real, they were human.
I just think they deserve a little gremlin tree fort okay

so I wanted to riff off of @alexanderlightweight's response to the Alec/Bow/Quiver/summoning meta post by @ralfstrashcan that I reblogged recently, but also I didn't want it to get lost in an increasingly long reblog chain, so I'm gonna quote and start over here:
100%
my headcanon is that it's alec's shadowhunter ability like clary's rune ability and apparently the herondale ghost talking ability(??)
if we really want to take it a step further. we can even talk about how izzy has specially made weapons that have to be super tricky to use which means weapons ability
but that's just my brain. which made that one scene where alec goes back to the institute make no sense, to retrieve his bow because literally every other time he doesn't need to (they just wanted to give clace the training moment and set up the whole hodge thing)
1: I also think Alec's 'have to go get a bow' is just an excuse, but he's using it to a) get away from Jace behaving incomprehensibly & Clary being So Very Clary, AND b) to cover their tracks now that he's realized just HOW comprehensively his siblings are going to go off the rails in the next day or so. (And on a narrative level I really like the scene with Hodge so I'm glad it exists. 😅)
2: I headcanon that part of the reason Alec (& to a lesser extent but still noticeably so, Izzy) can get away with pushing so many Clave/Nephilim boundaries without actually getting deruned despite their parents being on Thin Fucking Ice™️ with well, everyone, is that they have inherited both Family Traits and that's valuable enough (especially after all the losses during and after the Uprising) that the Clave really really doesn't want to get rid of them.
(Similarly, there's some hope that Jace and/or his expected children might show signs of the Wayland traits coming to life again as they've died out otherwise. Obviously that goes a bit sideways once they finally pick up on How Very Herondale he is, but luckily he's Herondale so that's still a benefit.)
Truebloods: very literally truth-tellers. Variations on their skills include the ability to recognize lies, off the charts charisma when they are invoking what they believe to be the truth, and an ability to make the most awkward truths palatable to audiences that normally wouldn't want to engage with them. They were traditionally the guardians of the Soul Sword whenever it left the City of Bones, but that honor faded away over the years as the Council with the Consul/Inquisitor as heads centralized power in their own hands.
Izzy can be seen doing this during her trial, because even when her personal behavior has included digs & microaggressions against Downworlders, she believes that they as a people can and should do better and her speech clearly works in-universe because of that resonance of truth.
(She even occasionally manages the sincere/heart-felt clunky dialogue that works despite being clunky that Alec's so good at, and poor Jace doesn't, despite his best attempts, because for all he's a Lightwood in every other way that matters, he's not actually part Trueblood.)
Maryse has several hints of Alec's same blunt (inexplicably successful) sincerity once she lets herself stop hiding behind Politics & Expectations. When she's upset with Izzy about spending time with the Seelie in s1, she has a line that always felt very self-recriminating to me; (I'm paraphrasing here since I'm too lazy to pull up the script or episode): 'never trust a people who can't lie, they'll find more imaginative ways to stab you in the back'. She knows this about the Seelie because it's what she's always done.
(Alec's shock at his parents being in the Circle can't be because it's against their politics as they've never really tried to behave better. Perhaps it's because it never occurred to him that they could lie that well. Especially his mother, since he has a much better relationship with her than Robert.)
This means that Maryse buying into Valentine's rhetoric was invaluable to him, because she could back him up and help make sure people would fall for it, because she was a Trueblood. Equally, when she turns, that is part of why the Clave lets them back in. Her vow to now toe the party line is completely believable, because she promised on her children... who are also Truebloods.
This also means that their bloodline is one that would not always be popular since they can call out power when it's behaving badly; thus the apparent decline of Trueblood standing in the way that the show refuses to ever really acknowledge it in the present day timeline, and instead talks about Lightwood honor.
(But countered in the way The Clave doesn't move directly against Alec Lightwood, HotI, despite gay and living with a Downworlder, despite how much clear disdain he has for so many of them and their policies. They aren't willing to risk what a Trueblood could do if pushed into active rebellion.)
Lightwoods have a much more palatable martial gift. Their affinity for the adamas in their weapons means they can bond with them, sometimes strongly enough to summon them, manipulate them in the field, adapt them and rune them and enhance them in ways most Shadowhunters can't. (We never see anyone doing anything resembling Alec runing his arrows in s1 after all. What if most of them can't?)
As shown by Izzy in s3 as Weapon's Master, in Alec's ability to beat his parabatai (the supposed best fighter of a generation) when they're sparring with weapons even if he loses once they get to hand-to-hand, Izzy's unique skill with a whip, Alec fighting with everything he gets his hands on, from seraph blades to his signature bow to actual arrows for stabbing. (As seen in everything in ralf's original meta post and delightful fic.)
There's even something in the fact that Izzy was interested in joining the Iron Sisters (which while prestigious also involves even more sacrifice from a people who have to sacrifice a lot already and are thus vital enough that they let Cleophas join despite her past because they needed her) and yet Izzy stayed active duty -- and presumably eventually marriageable.
(I frequently wonder if part of why she chose to make herself as unpalatable as possible for a traditional/political match was a lingering bit of awareness that that was what The Clave most wanted from her, regardless of who she wanted to be.)
ALSO! There has to be a reason that Robert Lightwood was valuable enough to keep even when they got rid of Maryse, a reason the show reiterates Lightwood honor over and over again, a reason he & Maryse got to be co-Heads of an Institute (even if the general fanon that they were more constrained than most Proper Heads does fit what little we see), and we never actually see Robert fighting or sparring, but we are repeatedly told that his children are the best of the best.
But it's seldom mentioned as a compliment, is it? More like an expectation. They're Lightwoods, they have to be the best with their weapons, or what is the point of them? It's just another weight added to Alec's so-called crown, another expectation Izzy has to both flaunt and fight against every day so she can have at least a little bit of herself left to hold onto.
(The one thing Jace is good at, the one bit of the monster his father built that helps; he's as good with a blade as a Lightwood. It's the only thing that gives him hope for redemption, the only thing that gives him enough conviction to ask Alec to be his parabatai and protect his soul from himself.)

I think DJ should’ve talked to Maya first before skipping college and going pro. I think Maya was fast to pack her bag to leave maybe looking for a way out but I would pack too if my man told me to stand by him as if I wasn’t doing that from the start. I think they needed a lot of communication between each other and finding some common ground. But I will say that DJ doing that with that Becky was the last nail on the coffin.
Not only THAT but he called for the "break" first! I mean, he immediately regretted it but still...
And let's not forget this smart ass comment:
Tumblr media
I mean yes, we all say shit during arguments that we probably shouldn't have and I'm sure he didn't mean it but like someone else said, he doubled down:

As an old lady I gotta stop getting into Shonen anime/manga. Obvi the young boys have to beat the big bad. Obvi they need a more powerful mentor to help them at the beginning. Also obvi the mentor needs to somehow not be there to fight the big bad so the boy can fight and win and the easiest thing to do is kill him off. But now I'm old and in love with the mentors. So that means I lose my favs. Not cool.

You can't tell me that 'As Long As You're Mine' from Wicked isn't just so Jegulus.
Reggie as Elphaba
James as Fiyero
"Kiss me too fiercely
Hold me too tight
I need help believing
You're with me tonight
My wildest dreamings
Could not foresee
Lying beside you
With you wanting me"
Regulus doesn't understand how someone as sweet and lovely as James can want him but god if he's not going to hold on for dear life.
"And if it turns out
It's over too fast
I'll make every last moment last
As long as you're mine"
He's going to cherish every second because he knows all too well how fast good things go away.
"Maybe I'm brainless
Maybe I'm wise
But you've got me seeing
Through different eyes
Somehow I've fallen
Under your spell
And somehow I'm feeling
It's up that I fell"
James isn't some dumb Quidditch jock by any means but his brains are always what people see him for. He's also a massive sap and falls hard and fast. He never thought it would be for his best friend's death eater brother but here he is. Under his spell.
"I'll wake up my body
And make up for lost time
Say there's no future
For us as a pair
And though I may know
I don't care"
They both know how this is going to end and it's not going to go well but they don't care while they're laying in each others arms. When they're both so warm and full of love. They can dream about a future where they belong.

Okay, last romance chart for the night is gonna be Sarakael! Ngl, I stared at the love language thing for a solid 5 minutes, because I felt like there should be more on there than just acts of service. Touch is fairly big for him too, but ultimately it's always going to be actions that get through to Sara the most.
Aside from that, he's pretty easy-going in a relationship...for the most part. Like it says on the red flags thing, he can get a little paranoid at random times-- usually after the relationship has been going for a little while, and things have been going well. It ends up being a "...Wait, every other relationship I've seen has had something bad happen by now. Why hasn't anything bad happened with us? What if I'm just not noticing something?" sort of situation, essentially. And not even because he doesn't trust his partner! It's literally because he's been around/seen so few relationships that have been healthy and worked out, that he subconsciously just...assumes that relationships all have messed up stuff happen from time to time. Which is also why he's 'intermediate' on the difficulty scale...though part of me feels I should have given half of that third heart, too.
But no, Sara is usually very much a dog boyfriend. Maybe not quite golden retriever boyfriend, because he can get really protective and defensive over his s/o, but still dog nonetheless.

I just remembered that Layton's Spanish voice actor, Jordi Varela, died last year. And, of course, that means there will be recast for Layton.
I don't know who the new voice actor is going to be, but these games were my childhood, and it's never going to be the same without him. He was such a great voice actor, and he'll always be my professor Layton. Rest in peace.

I wish we were shown more about the Palisman carving process. I've wondered whether Flapjack's scarred eye was due to an injury when he was with Evelyn, during his time abandoned, or whether it was just a quirk/mishap of his carving. It'd also be cool if it was from a knot or a scar in the palistrom wood piece. If the bumps and scars from carving are carried over to when the palisman bonds to a witch and is animated, I feel like we would see more palismen with bumps, knots, and scars -- which is awesome. Woo!! Normalizing imperfections and quirks of beginning carvers
