“Wallflower”

Bada Lee x Reader

Summary: you’ve always been such a cutesy person. you’re tired of it.

Short a/n: i used songs for y/n’s group that are from other artist (obv) and same for her solo career. also changed one lyric from this original song. this was a request and i had so much fun with it.

when you started your idol career, you always knew you’d have to go to events, parties, and have to socialize with other people. you weren’t really too keen on that idea. you’ve never been a party goer and when you did go you stayed in the corner or alone. your old high school friends used to call you ‘wallflower’ as a nickname because of it.

however, you being a wallflower helped you meet your current girlfriend, bada lee.

you were both at a party, specifically your group’s album release party. you, of course, we’re leaning against the wall, babysitting a cup of whatever alcohol your group member gave you when she approached.

“hey.. i’m bada. congrats on the album.” she said leaning against the wall next to you.

you looked up at her, “oh hi. y/n. thank you. um i know you, you’ve choreographed for my best friend’s group. aespa? ning is my best friend.” you whispered, feeling intimidated by her height.

“i love ning.” bada said smiling which put you at ease. “why aren’t you socializing with everyone? the party is for you.”

“i’m not much of a socializer. my high school friends used to call me wallflower.” you mumbled.

she leaned against the wall. “well if you don’t mind, i’d like to keep you company.”

and from that point on, she never left your side really.

eventually, your group disbanded, but you continued on with your career as a soloist. weeks after your solo debut, bada asked you to be her girlfriend.

your group has always done cutesy concepts. starting with their debut song, ‘bubble’ up until their last song, ‘dun dun dance.’ even after you continued, you kept the cute act. your first song, ‘bubble pop’ blew up. your most recent one, ‘smile’ ft. a popular soloist, bibi, just dropped and the fans were eating it up. after that, you decided to go on tour.

your first show was tonight. you were extremely excited because you had something up your sleeve for your fans (and your girlfriend.)

you’re currently in the back getting your makeup done. your girlfriend approaches you, a smile on her face.

“hey pretty,” she says softly, “are you excited?”

you nod when your mua moves to find a good lip shade, “very excited. i can’t wait to perform again.”

“i’ll be right by the barricade rooting for you. you’ll see me, i’ll be up front with ning.” she said kissing your cheek and running off when your mua swatted her.

“messing up my work.” she complained jokingly.

eventually you were ready to go. running out getting your fans excited. you immediately started with your first song, bubble pop of course.

time went on and right after the short intermission you came out in a new outfit. it’s not revealing but the skirt is pretty short. your fans and girlfriend are pretty shocked. not ning tho, she’s recording bada’s reaction. of course she knew what was going on.

you laugh at the surprised noises from fans. “i know, shocking right? i’ve always been one to do cutesy concepts, have pretty outfits, sing my little cute songs.. but sometimes you need a slight change. since it’s my first time back on tour since my solo debut, i have a treat for you guys. here’s my new, unreleased song called ‘wallflower’ i hope you like it.”

taking the mic off the stand and crouching down right in front of where bada is standing, you sing the lyrics to her, a slight pout on your face.

you stand up smiling when you see the tips of bada’s ears go red even in the dark light. you walk right to the security guard and he helps you down from the stage so you can make your way to bada and ning.

one of your fingers slide down bada’s face and you keep walking, deciding to go interact with the crowd.

towards the end of the song, you make your way back to the stage, arching your back as you slide down onto your stomach singing the last line.

your fans cheer loudly and you damn near cry. you thought they’d hate this side of you. you stand up all giddy. you’d love to release more songs like this.

once the show ends, you’re backstage gathering your things. you felt large hands on your hips and they slide around to your stomach. “hi bada.” you say putting your chargers for your watch and phone in your bag.

“what was that?” she says quietly.

“what was what?”

“the outfit? the song? the lyrics? the dancing?” you turn and face her, hoping she wasn’t angry. you look in her eyes and they’re filled with lust.

“i wanted to try something new.” you wrapped your arms around her waist and looked up at her. “did you like it?”

bada doesn’t respond. instead her eye twitches slightly and she kisses your forehead, “let’s go back to my place. hurry up.”

you turn around and grabbed the rest of your stuff and made your way to her car. however, you’ll never make it as fast as you’d like cause your cockblock bestie stops you.

“y/n! i know you’re trying to go do your big one in bed with bada but, i need you to release more songs like that. and wear more outfits like these man you look amazing girly.” ning says quickly.

laughing at her words you hug her, “thank you ning. i’d talk more but bada’s eye twitched before she told me to hurry up i’m tryna see what that’s about.” you kiss her cheek and keep it moving to your girlfriends vehicle.

the ride back to her place was silent, a comfortable silence. your leg bounced in anticipation. you have no idea what bada’s going to do but you’re excited.

she parked in the parking structure of her building and before you could unbuckle your seatbelt, she grabbed your face pulling you in for a rough kiss. she bit down on your lip, making you gasp. taking the opportunity, her tongue slipped into your mouth immediately dominating as a hand wrapped around your throat.

“b-bada.” you stutter, pulling back for air.

“you play a risky game. turning me on in front of your best friend and all your fans.” she unbuckles both seatbelts and walks around to open your door for you, hand out helping you to the door. “wearing this short skirt,” her fingers dip under the little elastic, “arching your back like that. now i don’t have a porch cause i live in an apartment but we can definitely go into my room. or we can go on the balcony.” she says.

you’re stuck as you watch her pull out her keys to open the door to her apartment. once the door closes, her lips are on yours again. she spreads your legs apart with her knee and rubs you through your panties lightly.

she eyes you and you feel intimidated. your expression goes from nervous to confused when she hands you her strap.

you blushed and kneeled in front of her putting the strap on, occasionally making eye contact with her.

“did i do it right?” you whisper.

“you did it perfect, princess.” bada helps you off your knees and bends you over the balcony railing.

you hiss as the cold, metal rail hits your boobs, making your nipples hard. “bada-“

Ok so, i was thinking of skz in a free day, and they go out for dinner to a restaurant that is a bit far away, so they have to go by car. the long ride messes with lee know a little, but he forgets it when they arrive.

they order dinner and all good at first, but on the ride back lee know sits at the back and he starts to feel worse, but doesn’t say anything yet.

at the dorm, he goes straight to the bathroom to be sick but tells the others he’s gonna shower (he’s not, obv)

since he doesn’t feel any better and his stomach starts to cramp bad as well as still feeling the nausea, he goes to the living room to wait for it to settle before going to bed.

it’s late and the rest are in their bedrooms but 3racha are still there (finishing a song or doing whatever), so he just tells them he’s gonna stay there with them for a bit since he doesn’t feel well, and they try to subtly make him feel better, but in the end he gets sick again (can write whatever you want from there on)

JUST A CASE OF BAD LUCK

Free day, a rare thing in the busy life of idols, specially SKZ, who seemed to be making comebacks left and right with no break in between.

To celebrate their efforts in preparing the next album, although there was still a lot to do, but they deserved it, they decided to go out for dinner in a restaurant they really liked but was a little far from their area, which was good because it meant less chance of paparazzi.

They all gathered inside the car and the manager started the hour-long drive to the restaurant. They were excited about it and also kept talking about the new songs, choreographies, and photoshoots.

Lee Know took part in some of the conversation, but the drive was starting to take its toll on his tired body. The movement of the car starts to make him feel a little queasy, with an uneasy feeling lingering around. He didn't feel like throwing up but the thought of food wasn't amusing him anymore, if anything he wanted to get it over with and go home.

The nausea was mixing with hunger and that combo was definitely not pleasant, because he wanted to eat but was afraid of getting sick.

After a tiring 1 hour drive, they arrived at the restaurant and the manager had to deal with 8 hungry, hyped kids. Lee Know felt better once he was out of the car and the combo he was feeling, was replaced with only hunger and he couldn't wait to eat.

To say the food was good was an understatement, it was delicious, Lee Know enjoyed every single bite, after all, there's nothing better than to be rewarded after a long day's work.

They all talked and had fun along with the manager, some of them drank just a little bit, and the others were completely focused on eating.

Since it was getting late, they needed to go home, especially now that their bellies were full, the thing they wanted the most was sleep, anywhere, anytime.

For the ride back, Lee Know sat at the very back of the car, meaning his only field of view was the other members. As the drive went on, Lee Know was starting to feel the consequences of sitting at the far back of the car after a huge meal. Not being able to see the road, along with the constant rocking of the car due to the pavement and being full was doing a number on his already unsettled stomach. It was in absolute turmoil but he didn't tell the others, he'd rather deal with it on his own but oh boy was it difficult.

After another 30 minutes, due to traffic, they arrived at the dorms. Once the car came to a stop, Lee Know didn't know whether he felt relieved or not because he was afraid of moving and triggering his stomach. He took deep breaths as the others exited the van and then came out himself but being on solid ground didn't provide him the comfort he thought it would. Instead, being upright made him aware of how bad his stomach was feeling and the nausea that kept building up on the ride was now fully settled in, he needed to get to the bathroom now.

He got on the elevator with the others, staying unusually quiet but the boys didn't ask him about it since he was probably tired. But the more he thought about getting home, the more unsettled his stomach felt and now that they were close to their floor, his stomach jumped wanting to send its contents up his throat but he clenched his fists and managed to calm it down.

But once they were at their door, it jumped again warning him he had no other choice, he needed to get to the bathroom immediately or he'd vomit on the entrance.

- I'm gonna go shower.

He lied and barely managed to say that, sensing that if he tried to say anything else it wouldn't end well, and hurriedly made his way to the bathroom.

The boys were a little dumbfounded but didn't make much of it and went on to do their things.

Lee Know closed the door behind him and hurriedly turned on the shower to convince the others he was indeed showering and muffle the sound of him throwing up the dinner he just had.

He quickly opened the toilet as he lost the battle against his stomach, vomit escaping his lips and hitting the edges of the toilet.

- Shit.

He cursed quietly and another cramp made him gag up another thick stream of undigested chunky food, the fact that he had just eaten making him feel even worse due to the texture of the food on his throat and mouth coming back up.

He rocked back and forth as his stomach cramped and made him gag unproductively a few times before a rather productive one gushed out of him, coming out through his nose as well.

He could only hope no one was hearing him being miserable inside the bathroom and that the sound of the water was doing a good job muffling the noises.

Another gag brought up what seemed to be the last of it along with some bile. He flushed the toilet and straightened his back, taking deep breaths and making sure his stomach was better. It wasn't, but the nausea was bearable so he did indeed step into the shower, he needed to calm down and wash that gross feeling.

He finished his shower and stood by the sink, looking at the mirror and seeing his complexion wasn't looking the greatest but he could brush it off as just being tired. He thought that after throwing up that much his stomach would be somewhat settled now but it wasn't, it was still cramping and throughout the shower, the nausea had increased a little.

He took a few deep breaths as he contemplated his choices: go to the bedroom, lay down, and risk throwing up on the bed or the floor, or go to the living room, sit on the couch, and hopefully wait for it to settle before going to bed.

The latter it is. He washed his face one more time and made his way to the living room where the others were.

- Hyung, you okay?

- Yeah. I was just tired and the hot water felt good.

- That's something an old man would say~

Hyunjin teased earning a death stare from Lee Know who was ready to get tissues and turn on the air fryer.

- Sorry.

He said bowing his head and making the others laugh.

Lee Know sat on the couch and grabbed a pillow to hug since his stomach was not giving him a break.

The boys were watching TV, some were on the computer, on their phones and Lee Know tried to focus on the TV, and from time to time his stomach would cramp making him grip the pillow tightly until it went away. And it stayed like that for a long time, which meant that no matter how tired he was going to bed was still not an option.

As the night went on, the boys went to their bedrooms, and by 3 AM everyone was in their bedrooms, except for Lee Know and 3racha who decided to stay up to work on some songs.

Lee Know knew they would find it strange that he was still up so when they turned to him and before they could ask anything, he just opened up.

- I'll stick around for a bit...I don't feel well...

The confused faces now turned into worried ones.

- What's wrong hyung?

- It's just my stomach...it doesn't feel good.

- Stay with us then, if you feel anything say it, okay?

- Alright.

The three boys tried to focus on the music and also tried to help Lee Know, by making him listen to some of the song samples, maybe that would distract him.

At first, it worked and he did give some opinions on the songs, but eventually, his stomach started cramping even worse than before and he grew quiet.

He just sunk into the couch hugging the pillow and wishing he'd just melt into the couch. And the boys noticed the change in behavior.

- Hey, Lee Know-yah, are you okay?

Chan said, tapping the younger boy's knee.

Lee Know just nodded a no, sensing his stomach could send everything up at any minute.

Lee Know then felt the nausea increase rapidly, his stomach contracted and the color drained from his face, he could feel the vomit coming up.

- Changbin-ah, grab a bucket, he's gonna throw up. Han-ah, get some water.

The two boys quickly obeyed the leader's order and we're out of the living room in a flash.

Changbin arrived with the bucket just in time, placing it by Lee Know's feet.

- Here.

Lee Know bent forward and a wet burp brought up even more undigested food hitting the bucket with a disgusting sound.

Chan and Han kept rubbing Lee Know's back up and down, trying to comfort him as he puked up another wave. After the second wave, his stomach gave him a little break, enough for the others to try to understand what was going on. Changbin took the opportunity to take the bucket away before the smell or sight could make Lee Know sick again.

- Hey, you okay?

- No...it's cramping and the nausea won't go away...

- Was it the food?

Changbin asked giving Lee Know the bottle so he could drink a little bit.

- No...

- It would be weird if it was the food, some of us ate the same thing.

- Yeah. Then what was it?

- The ride... started bothering me before we got to the restaurant...but once we were there it stopped...but then the ride back just made everything worse...

- So when you said you were gonna take a shower, you were actually being sick, right?

Chan said with an assertive tone of voice, one that showed that he was both worried and upset he didn't say anything.

- why didn't you say anything?

Han asked with that cute quokka face, one that made Lee Know smile.

- I didn't want to worry you guys...and I really thought it would go away, that it was just a bit of carsickness...

- Don't hide anything from us, okay?

- O-okay...

He said choking and Changbin quickly appeared in front of him with a plastic bag where the boy gagged a few times before another wave came up, a little more liquid since he had just drank water.

- Get everything out. You're doing good.

Chan reassured rubbing his back along with Han and Changbin kept holding the bag for his hyung.

- Aigoo, hyung~

He said with a cute voice, trying to lighten up the mood and also tease him a little since they matched each other's energy so much.

Lee Know coughed up a thin stream of bile and saliva with only a bit of undigested food and then was left dry heaving over the filled bag.

- Hyung? Do you think you're done?

- Yeah...

He said weakly, voice raspy from the strain.

Chan made him sit back on the couch and do a few breathing exercises to calm down a bit.

- Do you wanna go lie down?

- No, not really...

The boy shared a bedroom with other members and the last thing he wanted was to get the others' attention as well.

- We'll sleep here then.

Chan suggested, his father-like instincts telling him Lee Know wasn't 100% yet and being around in case he needed was the wisest choice.

- Changbin-ah, get that bucket and leave it here, with a plastic bag so we don't need to keep washing it all the time. Han, can you grab some pillows, blankets, and mattresses?

- Yes, hyung.

They both said already leaving the living room to get the stuff.

- It's okay, hyung. I can sleep here by myself.

- No. You don't have a say in this. I know you don't want to sleep with the others and worry them and I'm not letting you sleep alone here.

- Okay.

Changbin and Han got back with everything they'd need for a night in the living room, spreading the mattresses close to the couch where Lee Know would be sleeping because it was a bit more comfortable than sleeping on the floor.

Chan gave an antiemetic to Lee Know to see if it would help him sleep through the night without vomiting again and tucked him into bed.

- Thanks, kids. Thanks, Chan-hyung.

- No need to thank us.

They all said smiling at an almost sleeping Lee Know.

Chan, Han, and Changbin all lay down and kept working on their stuff and took turns throughout the night to help Lee Know who got sick a few times.

It would usually mortify him to be like this in front of the others but he couldn't be more thankful to his dongsaengs and his only hyung.

bday party girlie and Matty sitting around, reading reviews of her newest book. Maybe on goodreads. And they’re just shouting snippets they’ve read like Matty going, ‘BABE! Babe! Babe! A triumph of a novel with a brutal honesty that will remain with me for the foreseeable future’. And he’s just so happy that everyone loves her work as he loves her work. Girlie is perhaps a bit bashful but Matty is having none of it like YOU ARE THE NEW DIDION. And then perhaps he jokes like ‘god the greatest frontman in the world and the greatest writer in the world. I think u might actually birth the next messiah, babe’.

Maybe they do something somewhat similar when the 75 release a new album. Though Matty is less arsed about reviews so perhaps it’s more girlie just reading them and glowing silently with pride.

omg like you're fine not knowing how the book is being received (or so you say) but matty's convinced it's the best thing ever written and he's determined to show you that he's right lmao. maybe you're on tour or something and he literally has you trapped in his arms on the sofa on the tour bus with goodreads up on his phone to show you the reviews and make you take the compliments lol. but he's in charge of scrolling in case there's any bad ones that he doesn't want you to see - he snatches the phone away like "well, here's someone who needs their brain checked... ah, yeah, colleen hoover enthusiast. s'what i thought. tasteless", and you just look at him all heart eyes like "i love you so much lol". anyway - obsessed with that comment about you birthing the next messiah, i can just hear him saying it and then softening like "nah fr. you're amazing. i'm awed by your talents every day, my darling. and so is everyone else, as they should be". and god knows you're the same when the roles are reversed; matty's literally hiding his face in your tits so he doesn't have to look at the nme or rolling stone reviews, while you quietly scan them and read out the best parts like "they love it. they love you! not as much as i do, obv, but still. you're the shit, baby. maybe you were right about our kid being the second coming". he just giggles and kisses you like "maybe we should have one, then. people have been asking for us to collab on something for ages, after all" with the most shit eating grin, and you're like "we can try! and then we could write something about it. i'd like that", and matty's like "me too. i love you!" lmao. cute! <3

Taylor Swift released her new album and it's kind of Bethyl coded?? Now I know I'm the ultimate delulu here but hear me out lol

"The Alchemy" - "what if I told you I'm back? The hospital was a drag.. I circled you on a map, I haven't come around in so long.." hospital is Grady obv and the map thing it's a big symbolism we've seen around her multiple times, even in the Bulletproof Picasso music vid.

Next we have the Black Dog - the title kind of tells me something but I don't know what that might be, anyway you can read below the lines of the song " someone plays the The Starting Line, but she's too young to know the song.. And I may never open up thw way I did for you, you said I needed a brave man.." this is pretty much self explanatory, but the starting line made me think about new beginnings (?)

Next "Clara Bow" ".. Half moonshine, a full eclipse" that's so sus to me "you look like Taylor Swift in this light" Emily has been compared to the Taylor swift of the show a few times in interviews!

Next "The manuscript" - "in the age of him she wished she was thirty and made coffee every morning in a French press." not sure how to read this except for the obvious age difference and French reference. "Since she was so wise beyond her years.. And the years passed like scenes of a show... Looking backwards might be the only way to move forward" again pretty self explanatory.

Next, "Who's afraid of little old me?" this song made me think about the theory of Beth holding resentment towards the group for abandoning one of their own "the scandal was contained, the bullet had just grazed... You don't get to tell me you feel bad... Is it a wonder I broke?"

Then we have "But Daddy I Love him" it's about a girl wanting a relationship with someone but everyone is against it one of the lines says "dutiful daughter, all my plans were laid.. Tendrils tucked into a woven braid" which we know Beth often had braids

Next we got "imgonnagetyouback" - "whether I'm gonna be your wife or gonna smash up your bike I haven't decide yet but I'm gonna get you back... Bygones will be bygones, eras fading into gray" grays it's obviously a big color symbolism for Beth, and that's not the only song that mentions gray

Next we got "How did it end?" - "We hereby conduct this post mortem... We'll tell no one except all of our friends, we must know. How did it end?" kind of made me think about Beth's supposed death and the mistery around it.

Another song named "The Prophecy" has a line that says "a greater woman stays cool, but I howl like a wolf at the moon"🐺🐺

Also she released a poem about this album that is also kind of familiar:

“He was in love with her/ Or at least she thought so/ She was brokenhearted/ Maybe he was too/ Neither of them knew. She was way too hot to handle/ He was way too high to try —/ He couldn’t even see her/ He wouldn’t open his eyes/ She was on her way to the stars/ He didn’t say goodbye”.

Something interesting I found out about Taylor is that she worked with the TWD makeup team to become a zombie for her music video "Look what you made me do".

honestly, no hate to Zayn whatsoever, but how is it that he is getting the promo for his new single from going on Jimmy Fallon, Kelly Clarkson, Spotify Video, Hot Ones, and now Rolling Stone and many others without any tour or live performances. like I obv love that for him, but I always see how under his insta posts such huge social media handles comment like MTV, Spotify etc etc whereas under lthq/louis' post we barely get to see comments from such published platforms with reach, we get a comment from iHeartRadio here and there, like I love them both(z&l) very dearly but at times it just feels so unfair to Louis in all regards, there's always little to no promo for him on these recognized platforms like last I remember. sorry for the rant, I wish you a good day!

Artist who get big platforms (Zayn, Olivia Rodriguez, Billie) are getting investment from their labels, and that’s because they are contractually obligated to generate a certain level of profit back to the label.

Nothing in entertainment is guaranteed, but did you see that Zayn’s singles and albums are getting released in multiple formats, just like Taylor’s album… 10 or 11 different formats with essentially the same songs?

We see fans collecting 5 or 6 different vinyls and covers. This is for the purposes of revenue generation and charting.

When Harry releases album number 4, we will see the same media lined up to hype it, and we will inevitably see multiple covers, editions of merch, vinyl prints, etc etc etc.

It’s industry games. The award shows are no longer separate, objective peer critics. They are folded into the revenue generating machine of big entertainment, scratching each other’s backs. There is no separation.

It doesn’t necessarily mean that the creative works are bad or inferior, just that corporate interests are using loaded dice in a game in which the house always wins.

Indie artists must do it for the love. Financially, they will never win. That goes for almost every form of creativity these days.

bit of a weird ask but I saw a twitter post saying they were 'devastated' over what frank said in an interview about performing/writing in ls dunes compared to some other bands (theyre assuming that the 'other bands' means mcr because they cant think of the 20+ other bands that hes been in) and after reading it a second time it doesn't even seem that negative?? it just talks about different processes and his excitement for dunes, but I still feel down anyway now because of that reaction, and it really makes me doubt that part of the fandom's faith in the band and its members im kinda close to quitting the fandom because of this and idk how the tumblr/twitter gang here survives it y'all are troopers, im unsure how to avoid that kind of doomposting

but yeah, i see the same thing and it is. pretty irritating haha. it speaks to the unrealistic traits and behaviours fandom has applied to these ppl over the years/decades - which are harmless enough on the surface, but left unchecked you end up with doomposting or disproportionate levels of discourse when one of them doesn't behave the way their textpostified personalities would have you believe hahaha. if frank isn't anything but reverential towards mcr then he must hate it. if gerard puts time and work into his artistic and career pursuits that aren't related to mcr he must be giving up on the band like he supposedly did in 2012. if ray, who hasn't done a single interview since 2016, isn't on stage showing frank public affection or admiring him on twitter, he must be bossy and arrogantly taking all the glory for mcr's guitar parts and musicality. if mikey does anything it's gotta have something to do with gerard or mcr because obvs he doesn't exist outside the band etc etc. again none of these things are like. problematic or bad**, just kind of. annoying to engage with as an adult in the space i go to enjoy myself hahaha.

but this specific discussion abt frank implicitly dissing mcr also cropped up after that podcast frank did with travis, where he discussed writing music with ls dunes vs every other band/project he's been involved in. which, let's remember, is a fucking lot. how many albums has frank made or been part of? too many to easily count. only about four or five of those were with my chemical romance. ls dunes is only set apart from the rest because they're currently active after mcr's huge reunion, and they're a supergroup so they're getting a lot of press attention. people have never batted an eye in the past when frank has discussed how great it is to be working with this or that musician on this or that album - it's just the timing of ls dunes and our own high hopes for new mcr music that make people take this one in particular so personally.

on top of that... we've always known mcr has a fraught and stressful writing process??? that is like. a major part of the lore? we're all compelled by the insane amount of unlikely success mcr achieved in their careers, and by the fact that they were always controversial. we reblog quotes about gerard saying mcr's purpose was always to be against something, to undermine expectations, to infiltrate, contaminate etc. i thought this was something we were all drawn to about mcr? so i'll never understand the shock and disappointment when frank makes the simple statement that writing with ls dunes is easier, less stressful, and more lighthearted than writing with mcr. like...duh it is? mcr have always been open about how much they put into writing albums - and also about how they're proud of what they created, and that they consider each other cherished family.

the most annoying part for me is when people take quotes about frank working with travis and twist them into some kind of dig at/criticism of ray. i can only assume these people aren't used to working with others in a creative capacity, especially long term, because i just totally can't understand where it comes from lol. as someone who's read/watched every guitar-related mcr interview i've ever been able to get my hands on: ray and frank have literally never been anything other than fully complimentary of, respectful to, and affectionate with one another. ray was far from the first guitarist frank ever worked with and leagues from the only one. also, creative partnerships are extremely complex and every one is completely unique, with it's own strengths and difficulties. if ray and frank didn't love playing with each other they wouldn't have done it for years and years. that doesn't mean frank can't vocally love playing with other guitarists??? these things are not contradictory and appreciating aspects of one creative partnership is not equivalent to bad-mouthing a different one? like that is just not how it works skdkdjd

anyway i think a lot of it comes down to the fact that, for us, we see these people as parts of my chemical romance. naturally, because that's the reason we know they exist! but all of these people live rich and full and complex lives like any other person. the only parts of those lives that we generally see much of are the my chemical romance parts. we look for mcr in everything they say, which is understandable but unrealistic. all we need to do it keep that in mind imo

**(tho ppl's tendency to pit ray and frank against each other for some reason, which used to be a way common but is unfortunately a sentiment i'm starting to see crop up again in some places, definitely can get. suspicious and uncomfortable. especially considering that frank is the fan favourite so these pointless comparisons tend to err in his favour, and in either direction they tend to be very shallow and uninformed anyway. but that's a separate conversation)

wow i literally did not intend to turn this into a giant essay im so sorry. kudos if you made it this far lol. and i feel you anon, it's discouraging and puts a bad taste in my mouth when i come to this fandom for fun and fulfillment. i wish i had better advice because im feeling a little similar but just try to remind yourself that other people's opinions are just that. i find it helps if you can curate your own dash/feed or make friends in more discussion-friendly spaces like dms or gcs or discord servers. or even a priv twitter account with a few like-minded mutuals where you can vent ur shared frustrations over things without making it a whole big deal HAHAHA. the less time you spend scrolling thru ppl's public posts and the more time you spend diving into interviews, podcasts, videos, the web archive etc to detach yourself a little from group fandom-think the better you'll probably feel about mcr tbh! also long as you have friends or close mutuals that's all that matters imo <3

I honestly like that he was such a dick in the beginning bc that’s how most kids are, but the point is they learn through meeting other people and experiencing shit. this one is cheating because i have definitely spoken about this At Length elsewhere but this askmeme is about fics that live in my head rent free bc i'm too lazy to kick them out onto the page so: VA bad end au/bruno corruption au, in which bruno does not do a traitorism and just delivers trish exactly where she's supposed to be and goes home and settles into his new role as passione's certified best boy and tries his best not to throw himself into the sea about it. and then he meets the boss's right hand man and everything gets much worse for everyone except me because i like it when bad things happen to my faves

so obvs we're dealing with some wanting for nails here, but my short version is that giorno didn't make it thru the baby face fight, which led to mista not surviving white album and bruno just mentally filing that under "this is why you should never hope for things to get better ever." and thru a total random coincidence stumbles on what turns out to be the underboss and, thru him, diavolo, both of whom have very little helpful advice to give on processing emotional trauma but a whole lot of unhelpful coping skills for ignoring pressing concerns and past trauma that they are more than willing to pass on! it would be entirely unilaterally manipulative if not for the fact that neither of them are socially adept enough to commit to that; doppio has no experience of actual irl relationships and gets easily overwhelmed by the concept and diavolo is pre-inclined to believe that anyone who is cool and good must also recognise that he is also cool and good.

which basically sets up two parallel Bad Ideas at once: on the pink side neither of them have any idea how to integrate outside parties in a way that is not just adding a vicarious step to how they already operate with each other. on bruno's side he begins to wonder whether he can change the gang the way he wants from the inside, by working with the people at the top of it. could he Fix Them? (he can't) (they will make him worse)

I prefer let it be naked but I don’t like the lyric change in Long and Winding Road (though both can be read as equally heartbreaking just in different ways I guess)

Sober enough to answer this now! (Don't drink with your mom, folks.)

As much as I hate Spector as a person, I largely fuck with his production choices. The whole wall of sound/Brill building thing really works for me, especially with the girl groups that he tortured into creating timeless pop bangers. The thought of pulling him onto a Beatles record--especially one conceived to be intentionally stripped-back and DIY--is kind of nuts to me. I especially hate what he did to Long and Winding Road; those goopy strings and canned choirs really distract from the emotional devastation of Paul's performance to me. Overall, I definitely think Naked SOUNDS better, and I wonder if more people were familiar with it, if it would rehabilitate the popular consensus around Let It Be as a minor work in the Beatles' catalog.

I find Let It Be...Naked to be kind of a fascinating artistic project; it was released over 30 years after that material was originally recorded. John was dead, and while George gave the project his blessing while he was still alive, he was dead too by the time it actually came out. The idea of reappraising that material with the benefit of age and hindsight is so interesting to me, particularly with the changes that Paul decided to make. I'm going to get more into psychoanalyzing this under the cut, because bless your heart anon, but this is going to be where I sort through all my Thoughts.

The idea of reapproaching Let It Be is one that really intrigues me. Aside from the aforementioned relative bad reputation of the album in the Beatles discog, it was also recorded at a time of some of the Beatles' greatest interpersonal enmity with each other, something that can very much be felt in the material. If Naked were just stripping back the Spector production, I'm not sure it would be stuck in my craw the way that it is.

The original track listing for Let It Be always seemed a touch odd to me. Opening with Two of Us makes a degree of sense, but closing with Get Back always felt kind of strange. The album doesn't have much of a sense of flow or narrative, which is especially odd considering Abbey Road and Sgt. Pepper, which are both masterclasses in album structure.

To me, Naked has both a very clear structure and a very clear narrative. To start, we open with Get Back rather than closing with it, foregrounding the whole experiment as a meditation on homecoming, which is what it was always intended to be.

Imagine returning to the material you and two of your dead pals (and one living pal, obv) recorded at one of the worst moments in your relationship, thirty years on. How do you metabolize that? To me, Naked is particularly concerned with recontextualizing the relationship between John and Paul, and not just because I've got my tin hat on. While Let It Be opens with Two of Us, which has its own unique significance as an opening track, Naked places Two of Us (the song nostalgically reminiscing about--whether Paul is totally aware of this or not--the relationship he has had with John, while acknowledging that its halcyon days are ultimately over ["you and I have memories LONGER than the road that stretches out ahead", something I always found kind of odd to say in a song that is supposedly about your new boo]) immediately after The Long and Winding Road (the song about the dissolution of that same relationship and the futility of trying to salvage it). Let It Be opening with Two of Us presents that relationship as tragedy: it used to be beautiful, but that was then and this is now. Placing Long and Winding Road BEFORE Two of Us flips that narrative: it may be crumbling NOW, but it is still something beautiful and we can reflect on that beauty with fond sentimentality.

So as for the swapped lyric in TLaWR: Let It Be has him singing "and anyway you'll NEVER know the many ways I've tried." Again: Lennon-McCartney as tragedy. This portrays the dissolution of their relationship as a breakdown in communication, something I think the fandom largely agrees upon. They no longer understood each other; like a people-pleasing girlfriend (speaking from experience here), Paul feels he has given all he can give and nobody knows how hard he he's worked to keep it together. He gave all he had to give it was both not enough, and went completely unnoticed to boot.

Naked, on the other hand, flips this too: "and anyway you've ALWAYS KNOWN the many ways I've tried." TLaWR is still fundamentally the same song, but this one change completely reframes it for me. It's still tragic of course--in this version, John fully understands the work that Paul has put in, and it still isn't enough to save them--but it isn't quite so bitter. Rather than the fresh burn of a breakup where you are blaming the other party for their negligence, this version is able to acknowledge that while they loved each other, it still wasn't enough. It's a more balanced, adult perspective to me. I suppose this is tragedy of a different flavor than Let It Be's; it's almost Shakespearean, placing Lennon-McCartney as starcrossed rather than disintegrating due to their own human failings.

Honestly, the whole run of tracks on Naked from TLaWR through to Don't Let Me Down (obligatory Naked Is Better If For No Other Reason Than Don't Let Me Down) seems to be reframing Lennon-McCartney. We've also got I've Got a Feeling, a joyous duet about not knowing what you need until you've found it and moving past a hard year into a place of communion and celebration. That's followed by One After 909, the oldest song on the record, and a joyous throwback to John and Paul's musical origins.

I have less to say about the placement of the George tracks on this record, but ending Naked on the back-and-forth of Across the Universe and Let It Be--both John and Paul trying to find metaphysical solace in a moment of personal crisis and isolation--is incredibly touching. I always felt that Let It Be should be the closer, and Paul proved me right here.

Anyway, thank you, anon, for letting me use your question as an excuse to get all my Thoughts about this down. Naked has been haunting me the last few weeks, and I think I've come down on the side that it's a better and more representative compilation of the material from the Get Back sessions than Let It Be. But, more than that, it's also a corrective for parts of the Lennon-McCartney narrative, ending in the more sentimental, fond place that Paul seems to have been in since the turn of the 21st century.

Tl;Dr: Let It Be...Naked good

so at first my mind jumped to just songs i liked. yk maybe basketball shoes by black country, new road yk that song is prob one of the best songs like. ever jflsjdksj or maybe a jeffrey lewis song?? idk im Fucking Obsessed with ine of his albums its a comfort album for me

but then i thought and my choice is Do You Know What Im Saying by applied communications (really id recommend the album but you just said song and thats my fav song on the album hfksjdjs)

so ok. this song (and the whole album but again just the one song for this) is not like. good on a technical level. the guy made the album when he was 16 after his mom died. but to me it is like. the epitome of amateur art.

the instrumental is poorly constructed with random drums and a droning base that just feels *slightly* off, the lyrics are weird and pretentious and sung (not even sung more like said) in a very odd way, randomly layering over each other in a weird cacophony of teenage angst. but that all i think adds to it. listening to it, at least for me, i can *feel* the emotions behind this song so palpably, and thats really all art is for right?? making you feel something. the artist has some feeling they want to share, and so they make art so that you the audience feel that same or similar emotion. everything else is extra.

i know i and many others get caught up sometimes in worrying about doing art "well" but i think this song and the album in general is like. my go to example of amazing art that is, on a technical level, not the best. and im not even saying bad cause like straight up its a banger i fuckin love it hfkshdksj but its v obviously not made for everyone. its not what some would think is well made music. but i think if i wanted to show everyone a single song, it would be this so i could just show them that art can be shittily made and still be amazing, and a world with mountains of shitty art is infinitely better than a world with only art from people who are """good""".

any time a friend has shown me art they have made, whether its drawings or paintings or music or writing or literally anything, it has been almost a transcendent experience. this person i love has taken the time to pour their heart and soul into something that is so unique that i couldnt find anything like this anywhere else. you can find songs like black country new road or jeffrey lewis around, but you cant find songs like you would make when you have no or little skill. and obv getting better at any given artform is always great we love that obv but like. idk shitty art is amazing too and i just want everyone to not be scared to make shitty art cause sometimes shitty art is the best and most heartfelt art there is

I haven’t watched the new episode and I haven’t finished any of these kinktober requests bc Mother Nature has been curb stomping me.

But uuuuh here have some random stuff, mostly me talking about some Bleach OCs, below.

This song = Mayuri Kurotsuchi. I mean, just look at the album cover even??? The colors of her eyes and hair??? Mayuri’s emotional intelligence is definitely here, at this level.

I started actually workshopping an OC (compliments of this pic and the following to picrew obv). Fairly restrained person who goes down the Maggots Nest to R&D pipeline. She doesn’t have a solid name yet, but I do know her zanpakuto is a giant centipede who cries when she doesn’t visit enough.

Although she does suffer from R&D morality disease, she comes off fairly normal in quick, then get back to work small talk. She doesn’t have ambitions outside of the R&D anymore. The whole getting locked up for not doing anything but showing potential to do something kind of killed it.

Part of the coding crew for the semi-organic technology. So part computer coding, part surgical expertise. Largely attempting to translate the two into a cleaner mesh. Highly interested in how different reishi & spiritual pressure (of different species) can make this process easier, but halted by lots of red tape.

Has come to realize that with surveillance spanning farther and larger after the war, that she is now also playing IT to many shinigami who can barely work a soul phone. Absolutely soul crushing work. Especially considering the work she WANTS to be doing.

Really, really loves insects but switches her accessories to more traditionally cute things (like bears) when she goes outside of R&D. Not good at following lines of conversation she hasnt prepped for. Wretched at generating small talk while doing IT calls and will just lead the conversation back to task at hand.

Glazes the fact that she’s part of Gotei 13 out of her mind and lets R&D be the wall she can’t look over. This makes the IT work even more harrowing.

Copes largely by throwing herself into hobbies & the work she likes but also does do drugs! Not for fun or anything because she is too socially lame for that but she eventually finds that other people are super down to do drugs with her. This is the entry point where she starts develop actual relationships with people. Tfw you need experimental drugs to loosen up and have a laugh with people. My precious girl is so bad with people ❤️

She inspired me to workshop ANOTHER OC, a friend. And also a large reason she ended up in the maggots nest:

Worked in a tea house in the Noble Quarters and quickly became drawn to Tokinada for his blatant cruelty toward nobleman, who she desperately wished to be blatantly cruel to as well. Due to their own cruelty. You know the drill.

Tossed in the maggots nest for *TV static* and got out once Tokinada has climbed ranks enough to pull her out, and almost got herself killed after she threw a fit about having to join Gotei 13. Because Tokinada is a controlling POS. But OC wants a sliver of control herself, too much to partways. And what other choice does she have? Commit herself to being a shinigami? Go work somewhere in the rukongai? As if!

She makes every excuse to tag along with above OC on IT. She’s much better at small talk but is also just really annoying and needling. She always has her I Want To Know All About You mask on. It’s the only way she keeps from fucking losing it.

Her zanpakuto is a goblin shark, half stuck in a half sealed shrine underwater. She hates shinigami and was drawn to OC for that reason. Also controlling, demanding, and lords her support over OC if conditions aren’t fulfilled. No idea why her zanpakuto hates shinigami yet, but I do know that she puts her entire sharkussy into evaluation fights because the opponents are always fellow shinigami (duh). Also pretends she can taste what OC eats and demands a diet of fish and crustacean. I thought that was funny.

I also think it’s funny that I know so much about her zanpakuto but to be fair she’s a huge personality, very mysterious, and enshrouded in anger. *boops her smooth snout*

I like the idea of a zanpakuto seeking out a personality they feel they can take advantage of. The sword souls need more insane personalities that blur the line of sword and shinigami imo.

And finally, the last OC, who escaped being dragged into the maggots nest bc she is just not that dangerous nor smart by the standards of Central 46. Does know above two OCs very well.

Real simple girl. Loves having a roof over her head and a warm meal in her belly. Doesn’t care how she needs to accomplish that.

Great with people. Great with lying to people. Great with justifying violence against people. As long as she has a roof, a meal, and a cigarette (or any vice if she can’t have that), it’s all good.

Gets upset when people think she and first OC are related (bc of vaguely same hair and skin color. They don’t look alike apart from that). First OC died to get here and this one was born in the Rukongai. She takes a lot of pride in making it from then to now. She also holds a huge grudge if someone asks if they’re related. Monumental. Good luck winning shit in most gambling establishments within the Seireitei.

Runs a lot of gambling gigs for shinigami. Never for nobility any more. The money isn’t worth it. Promises a lot of things and only delivers sometimes. Has her hooks in Hisagi, for example, because he’s a sucker. She gets most of her human goods from filched pockets in the rukongai (s/o to the mind of Pirenja, im pretty sure for the black market post for this idea). She isn’t above pestering first OC to make something she’s promised at R&D. Rarely pays back the favor.

Runs a bootleg Urahara Shoten with Urahara’s blessing because he thinks it’s funny, he could use the extra storage, and Ururu really wanted to help running something in soul society. It’s called Ururu Shoten but everything else looks exactly the same as the human world counter part. This is how she knows a lot of big names.

OC and Ururu make an oddly good team and she unfortunately has a soft spot for the kid. To balance this out, she regularly tries to fuck over the business in ways that she can wriggle free from.

She’s a shinigami in name only. Doesn’t have a zanpakuto spirit to speak of. Barely in the ranks. Barely scrapes by her duties. In it for the room and board and connections.

Very funny how many people assume she has nothing going for her based on this. The amount of ppl taken aback when she shows up as the host of a card game is gargantuan.

She can not comprehend a day doing nothing, despite her love of simple pleasures. If she isn’t rubbing her little hands together and buzzing around a new shit scheme, she is listless.

If this has taught me anything, it’s that I’m horrible at committing to names. But uuuuuuuh, hope you like my gals.

#I think last OC couldn’t truly be so fun if she had a zanpakuto spirit and actual responsibilities #she’s if Urahara remained just some guy and wasn’t a god tier level genius #but also she’s not as effortless #whatever I love her #I love all of them #idk why the second OC I had to immediately attach to Tokinada #but it just felt right #she WANTS what he has so bad and she refuses to see how much it’s killing her #and first OC is just like ‘I’m doing my job. I’m enjoying my hobbies. I’m doing drugs you’ve never heard ofto survive leaving R&D everyday’#I love her a lot. she’s a competent fail girl #my beloved

British rock band Bastille graced the F1 Tracks series a couple of weeks ago, compiling a playlist for the French Grand Prix weekend. Known for their huge list of hits including Pompeii, Bad Blood and Doom Days, the band have been at the forefront of the British music scene for over a decade. You can check out their playlist here. A: Martin Brundle’s grid walk! Q: Any similarities between the buzz of F1 and the buzz of live music? A: Absolutely. I always feel that an F1 weekend is really similar to a music festival. The fact that it is spread over three days and people camp always gives the same feeling that you get at Glastonbury or other big festivals. The drivers are way cooler than pop-stars though.
