watching the fatui's appearance is... making me want to rewrite the sagau isekai fatui fanfic ive had in my drafts for six months

here's the basic premise to it: you've been isekai'd in genshin, as all things have been written, but instead of Dragonspine; you found yourself stranded in snezhnaya — freezing and near death— where one of the harbingers have found you and went to take you in the palace.

you faced the tsaritsa and thought yourself to be dead before the next day, but with the way that certain harbinger had been welcoming even through ice-cold fingertips, you doubt your theory. it was then the tsaritsa took your hand so passionately in front of all the harbingers and kissed it, offering you power and by extension, all the gnoses she has so far.

she calls you divine, how her love is no more but you're her sole exception, how she wishes to take it upon her sinning hands to worship you as you deserve. how she yearns for your warm touch and your presence. how, even through your absence, she'd work dutifully as she feels every part of you, albeit never seeing your face til now. all this, she claims with a serious face.

and for the past few days, they keep you all to themselves and you learn how they show you their affection.

the tsaritsa being stoic, yet she holds your waist protectively as you sit on her lap. she worries about pleasing you and offers you grand service, being the one to present you your room personally, ordering everyone to respect you. she spoils you a lot and although her affection may be awkward, she's trying and greatly enough, the coats embedded on her body is enough to guarantee warmth in the everlasting winter of snezhnaya.

childe acting like a knight to you with a self-sacrifical behavior, claiming to be a tool to be used, a weapon to brandish. he offers to fight the other harbingers for you if ever you'd be overwhelmed by their overbearing presence. his self-esteem is high, but never his self-worth and you often have to reassure him he doesn't need to work hard for the sake of pleasing you.

scaramouche being a needy lapdog who's often aggressive and rough but the moment your touch graces him, he's all but melting. you never find yourself alone because you somehow end up feeling his presence nearby. same goes with childe and everyone else, though — but scaramouche takes extra steps to keep you for himself.

il dottore would often offer you oversee his experiments and gives you an oversight on his future plans. at first glance, he's not as affectionate as he seems, but he works in the background by threatening those behind your back and speaking so passionately about his worship of you. in moments he does show his affection to you, he turns a bit? unsettling? to the point it can sometimes get too much (that's where childe or scaramouche (childe mostly) comes barging in to "protect" you), speaking of how he'll cleanse anything that's threatening your divine rulership.

la signora is cold, that's how you could describe her at first. not to you, but to others. she defends your every actions, whether wrong or not and has a mean face, but you know she confides in you. when you're both alone, she displays a more raw and tired expression that not one knows and you always have to offer your comfort. whenever you feel like the climate is too frigid, her butterflies are always near you, serving as warmth and a guide whenever you're lost.

and the other harbingers? I don't know them much yet but ill work my way around it

i don't really like when people say dungeon meshi is accidentally good autistic representation, because while i understand not wanting to make conclusions without explicit confirmation from the author, there's always the weird assumption that non-western authors somehow don't know about things like neurodivergency/queerness/etc. (on top of the assumptions that east asian authors are somehow more naive or oblivious to "western" social issues).

given that dungeon meshi started being published in 2014, it's not really a "work belonging to its times"—it's as contemporary as any other media we discuss on this site, which means it should be fair to assume it engages with contemporary topics (and at the very least, you shouldn't say that the representation is accidental with so much confidence)

but anyways, the chapter "perfect communication" in ryoko kui's "terrarium in a drawer" is some of the most straightforward autistic representation I've seen, and from now on I'm going to assume that laios's character writing is absolutely intentional in that regard:

I Have Found A Solution!

So, obviously classic wizard robes aren’t wheelchair friendly. (Alright, admittedly this isn’t common knowledge and also this definitely isn’t a problem for most but listen, this is a problem for me and I’m pleased to present a solution for it nonetheless.)

The issue is in the sleeves and the length of the robes. The traditional trumpet style allows them to get snagged, dirty, and caught in the wheels.

This is distinctly not an issue with other mobility aids such as canes and crutches, these wizards are fine to carry on with their trumpet sleeves simply rolled up if needed.

Now, one solution might simply to shorten the sleeves and hem to be out of the way, but that looks rather silly so I won’t do that. Instead I propose the more elegant design of a hanging sleeve to maintain that flowy magical feel while allowing for better range of motion.

Honestly I just love the look of hanging sleeves in general and think more people should appreciate them, wheelchair user or not.

Also increasingly aware that a LOT of people "manage" getting through the 40+ hour work week by sleeping less than is healthy and relying on stimulants like coffee and energy drinks to keep them going.

For people who are unwilling or unable to do this...work really does just dominate your life. Like we really should not have to rely on unhealthy practices just to have a social life or keep on top of housework or whatever.

I know I post about this a lot but I'm so TIRED all the time and it's just so depressing that this is how we're expected to spend the one life we have.
